Chrysler Financial

Kenji of Los Angeles, CA December 27, 2008

Kenji of Los Angeles CA (12/27/08)
I have fallen on tough times. I was injured on my job and although I was released to go back to work in June, as of December, I am still not working. I am a single mother of two and I had a loan with Chrysler Financial. I made them aware of my job loss and the inability to make my payments on time. When I signed the contract at the dealership, I was told that I had a 10-day grace period, so as long as I made the payments within that grace period, I was fine.

Once I fell into the missed payments with Chrysler, they began to call me and tell me that I had never made a payment on time. I informed them of what was told to me at the dealership, and they told me I was misinformed, but never took responsibility for it. I was 2 months behind, but I spoke with them frequently, letting them know that I was trying to make payments. I spoke to a representative on Christmas Eve and he told me to get a payment in as soon as possible.

When I woke up on Dec. 26, my car was gone. The have taken my only means of transportation, and now I am going to have pay fees plus the 2 months I was behind...this is my first repossession, and I am so embarrassed and hurt...I thought this company would work with their customers, especially seeing that the entire economy of the nation is suffering...does anyone have any advice of what I can do? I except full responsibility because it is my bill, it wasn't that I did not want to pay, it was that I couldn't....

I am now without a car, and my grandmother co-signed for me. SO they are threatening to place a lien on her home, and saying that we are responsible for the entire balance owed on the lease. I have no car now, and I don't think I will be able to obtain one once I become financially able....

On Dec. 10 my last payment was due for the purchase of my jeep. The same day my co-signers told me that they recieved phone calls every morning at 8am about 4 more payments. I instantly called to see what the problem was. I was told that since this was my last payment i had to go into the dealership with a money order that nite by 9pm. I explained i was going directly across the street the next morning for a dr appointment at 9am, they told me it had to be handed in by 9pm. I did as they asked.

The receptionist had no idea what i was talking about. She called the business rep, and again, cluless. A salesman that worked there 18 yrs overheard us and also said the same thing. I called Chrysler Financial from there and reported my payment and told them i was there, made my last payment and receieved a receipt. The next day while online banking they attempted to automatically withdrawl my 378.07 plus an additional 50, totla 428.07. I called right away. I was given the run around and then he yelled at me saying you just wait a minute and saying that i had missed 15 payments and ? had bounced..... I asked for a supervisor... She told me whe would look into this...

Two days later again t hey attempted the 428.07, and now other bills were bouncing, totalling 3 NSF charges.... I called one day to ask for the supervisor and they said she had left for the day, i demanded to speak with someone, sure enough she took my call. I went to my dealership 2x but this is out of their hands... I attept to call them every morning. Yesterday i called and the operator hung up on me when i demanded to speak to someone higher than the supervisor i was dealing with. When she returned my call later she told me they would cover 2NSF charges. I have spent hours on the phone with companies making arrangements to pay my bills at later dates because of this....

Four of my bills were not able to be paid on the extensions i made after the initial withdrawl.... Stress level at the bank for 50 min and i passed out.

back in october 2008 i was called by a woman customer service rep from chrysler LLC, in horsham pa. after sending an email, i then recd. a form from them oct.27 to change my payment date, which i promptly filled out and sent back in october, my payment was sent in as usual before the overdue date. then in oct. i sent the regular payment no problem too,

now in nov. i recd a notice i was late and charged a fee, i was told by the woman on the phone this would not happen because i was within the payment time limits, she lied to me because the pay statement from the kentucky payment site added on the late fee to my next payment, now in dec. i have another screw-up on the statement, on the acct.activity it says thank you for the 599.46 payment? my payment i sent in was the normal 299.97, and another late fee, total amount due324.97,t

hese people in customer service never notified the ketucky site about changing my payment date now the fees are continually added on, all i wanted was to change the pay date from the 24th to the 28th of the month because i normally get my retired pay on the same 4th wed. of the month, which would make me late depending on the date ir fell on, i'm retired from working plus retired air force ,i make 2016.00 a month and have a tight budjet, if they continue this way i will need a lawyer because i can't afford any extra trumped up payments ,i sent copies of all the messed up paperwork to both chrysler places in pa. and also to farmington hills, mich. credit disputes branch,

this is preying on my mind worrying me to the point of anger, also if i dont pay late fees it will ruin my credit, if i make the payments am i admitting i screwed up or should i fight them?

Vicky of Renton, WA December 18, 2008

My son bought a car and was financed through Chrysler Financial. I co-signed the loan for him to receive a lower interest rate. About a year later I received a call from Chrysler Financial that my son was nearly 2 months behind on his car payments. The representative gave me 3 days to pay both late payments plus an early payment on the next month or they would repro the car.

I made the payments within the 3 day period and then after talking to my son (who had lost his job) took possession of the car and made double payments on it until it was completely paid off. The loan was paid off 2 years early because I made double payments but still its listed as the ONLY negative on my credit report. Even when the 2 years of payment history no longer showed anything but on time payments, they marked the entry in my credit report with an extremely negative comment about making a 60 days late payment in 2005.

But never do they mention that I never made another late payment and even paid the loan off 2 years early. This negative mark will stay on my credit report for the full 7 years. I will NEVER do business with Chrysler or Chrysler Financial ever again! I warn anyone and everyone I know not to do business with Chrysler or Chrysler Financial too. It's a horrible company with horrible collections practices!!!

Steve of Denver, CO December 12, 2008

I bought a new 2001 Dodge Neon a few years back. After making payments on it for a time, I had the unfortunate situation of a lost job on my hands. At this same time, I was involved in a hit and run accident in which I had written down the license plate of the other driver but the police could not seem to find this person - my deductible was 1000 which of course at the time, I could not pay without a job... but I found a way.

Keeping in contact with Chrysler, I eventually decided that it was the best idea for me to voluntarily surrender the car as the job market was relatively tough and I had considerable trouble finding a replacement. Thinking I was doing the responsible thing, I voluntarily surrendered the car after speaking with a number of representatives from Chrysler Financial and also from the original dealership I had purchased the car from. Well - come to find out, this was probably the worst decision I could have made. For a short while, all was quiet.

I was content to have done the responsible thing having returned the car. At this point, I was under the impression that having taken this action would mean Chrysler might resell the car and it would be over and down. Chrysler appears to have taken my voluntary action and considered it a repossession. Chrysler took my car back, sold it for ~1200 and decided to charge me for the rest(somewhere in the ballpark of 10k).

In the following weeks, I received numerous phone calls from a gentlemen(I can no longer recall his name) regarding the amount due. This gentleman saw it fit to call me every morning for a week straight between 7-8AM yell at me about making a payment using aggressive and demeaning language, threats, and ridiculous claims for around 10-15 minutes and then hang up on me. Unsatisfactory... So, I suppose the question asked and the lesson learned - is this an honest, legit and common practice?
