In 2010, a Capital One card was opened in my name with a $500.00 limit. The statements were coming to my previous address. My mail was forwarded to my new address 3 months later, and I received a statement saying that I had missed several payments. I called Capital One and explained to them that I never applied for a card. As a matter of fact, this card was applied for online, WOW. After what they called an investigation, they told me that I was responsible for the card because of the mailing address.
I asked what type of investigation was done and the person could not answer the question. All they could tell me was the previous address matched the statement address. I asked them to provide me signatures but it never happened. I asked them to locate the stores to see if maybe cameras were operational on those dates that the card was used. I asked Capital One, don't it look strange that this card was maxed out in a couple of days? They said not really.
Now I have this card on my credit report with no payments. I don't see why I should be liable for this card and they told me to go to the police station and file for a stolen card. Are you serious? PLEASE. Capital One needs to do their job. A good investigation needs to be done, not an investigation from behind a desk.
