Toyota Tundra - Misc. Complaints |

|
I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra, having previously owned a 2000 Toyota Tundra, I am extremely dissatisfied with the performance of the automatic transmission. The truck actually surges or jolts forward when slowing down or coming to almost a complete stop. I think this is a dangerous situation due to the fact it may happen anytime and not necessarily everytime. It could become dangerous if in a parking lot and there is a car not far in front of you or you are stop and go on a freeway. I was told by a service rep at a dealer it is due to electronics instead of older models have a cable to control the shifting. I have had in the past a loyal dedication to Toyota products, but the dedication with this 2003 Toyota Tundra is waining. A concerned Toyota consumer and I would be willing to bet not the only one out there with this same concern. Robert of Oak Harbor WA (12/16/03):
At about 40,000 miles (just 4000 past the warranty of course) I noticed what I thought was an exhaust leak when the truck was cold. Followed it all the way up to the....You guessed it, the exhaust manifold has a crack in it. Oh and now at 53,000 miles, just put a transmission in it due to hard shifting and a "Malfunction light." At least thta's under the powertrain coverage until 60,000, but the dealership made my wife get a ride home. NO LOANER??? They are lucky I wasn't home for that, I was on board ship then! Guess what? Three weeks later and the malfunction light is on again. I have been a loyal Toyota owner all my driving life and thought a Toyota at any price a good investment even on my limited budget as a military man, married with two kids, but I may have to listen to my dad and convert to GM or FOrd after this! Matthew of Dallas OR (9/29/03):
I had done this just til about two weeks ago. Of course, the warranty is just a little over now at this point and the truck is nearly dead in the driveway at my home. After calling them several times, I called the dealership where it was leased from. They basically stated, should've got the extended warranty. What ever happened to the old Toyota's that got thousands of miles of great service? I leased this vehicle because I needed something very reliable. I am an appliance repairman who drives all day long. I rely on this vehicle every day. Now my old trusty 83 Suburban is making the rounds with me. This really hurts when you're self-employed. Not only did my Tundra bite it, it nearly caught fire. The day it had enough, the driver's side catalytic converter melted, yes melted, and the pre-muffler blew completely apart. This also caused about two quarts of oil to be blown into the intake system and foul 6 of the 8 plugs. I have called Toyota Corporate several times and have been promised a call back.
I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra 2WD 4 door Xcab that the paint is peeling. Toyota reginnal rep said it was not warrented so no one will fix it. I tried to talk to his boss but Toyota will not tell me who to talk to and basically stated that his decision was final. Also the Tundra wore out a set of tires in the first 15,000 miles due to it being out of alignment yet all Toyota would do is realign the Tundra but nothing about the tires. Toyota's warrenty and customer services are useless. Paint peeled on sides and tires worn out in 15,000 miles. Paint will cost $2000+ and tires $600+ to replace. Bill of Cape May Courthouse NJ (7/21/02):
I am out $30,000+ plus the perfectly good Toyota 4 Runner I traded in for the new truck. I was told by TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE that I was on my own with the problem. Report Your Experience
