Sears Auto - Brakes

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

In January 2011, I had the old brake job done, pads rotors, etc. The brake job was warrantied for three years. In May of 2012, the brakes were making a screeching noise. I took the car to the Sears in Chicago Ridge. There were a few customers there at 2 o'clock. The service rep told me at 4 o'clock, they would install new pads and rotors. He assured me the parts were in stock. At 6 o'clock, my car was still sitting on the rack and nothing was being done. I approached a new service rep who said the parts were ordered but hadn't arrived. They arrived at about 6:40 pm but the technician was working on another car. I complained and was told that the truck being repaired had priority and I would get my car at 8 o'clock. After six hours, it was done. I lost my temper and called them liars. They lied about the time it would be completed. They stalled me by saying the parts weren't in and I got my car as the last customer. I have spent a fortune at that store over the last three years on appliances, a lawn tractor, tires, and more. I am never going back to any Sears again. I see why they are losing money and closing stores. They don't deserve any customer loyalty. I am also 65 years old with a serious health problem.

Bought new tires and got front end alignment from Sear Annapolis Maryland. Good prices but front end alignment was mistake. I have been back to store to check why it pulls to left as it never did before alignment, they re- did and still pulls. Took to Pasadena Maryland store, they re aligned still pulls left, both stores said they fixed problem. Poorly trained mechanics. Never deal with Sears again. Calling corporate to complain and get my money back.

On Thursday July 21, 2011 I took my car to your auto center to have them check out a screeching sound that I heard when ever I put my foot on the brakes. I arrived to the auto center at 8:30am. After the clerk checked the mileage and I singed the paper work I went and sat in the waiting area. At 9:45am I saw that my car was still in front of the building where as a young lady that came in 30 minutes after me had her car pulled in and was being worked on. When I questioned one of the clerks he said that her parts were paid for and thats why her car went first. I then asked to speak to the manager. I saw the manager question the clerk that waited on me and the young lady and he started yelling and waving his hands and refused to come out and talk. The manager then said to me that he had only one person that could work on brakes and that had been busy working another car.(that was the second story I got in less than five minutes) needless to say I left. I have been a sears customer for a long time and I can say that I was very disapointed with the service that I received that day.

This about my Subaru Forester, 2006 which I took to Sears Auto Center at Oakland Mall in Troy, MI.

I took my Subaru Forester, 2006 (49,400miles) to change the front brakes ( pads , rotors & complete kit ) on 5/08/2011. The very next day I heard ghup ghup sound started coming from the front wheels during the stop and go traffic.

It could be distinctly heard when I applied the brakes and release and then apply again. I called Sears about this issue and was told me to get the car in. I took the car on 5/27/2011. I explained about the ghup ghup sound coming during the stop & go traffic. Waited for 2 hrs. They investigated and found nothing ( clearly told me they hear no noise ).

Then I took the technician for the ride and made him hear the noise. He acknowledge the ghup ghup sound and explained it is the friction noise. I clearly told him, I am too is a mechanical eng. And understand the friction noise and that my other car I have at home or the car which I rented do not make this noise. He argued that all the cars makes this sound. I told this is an unusual sound which you can hear and is irritating. After lot of discussion it was decided that the pads needs to be even out at least for 1000 miles and the sound will go.

After driving for more than 1500 mile the ghup ghup sound is still coming. I took the car back to the store on 7/09/2011. Waited for 2 hours and same drama started, the technician, manager can't hear any noise, everything is ok. I had to take the manager Scott . ( He did not give his business card but gave Francis Teter Auto Center Manager). Scott told me ghup ghup sound is normal and is heard in all the cars. I told him it is irritating noise which draws your attention and is not heard in other car. He will not listen and kept telling the same pitch.

He said to go to different Sears Auto center they would say same thing. I told him the other Sears auto is going to tell me the same pitch and want to take my car to Midas, as second opinion, - I have been working with them for last 10 years and full customer satisfaction I received and want Sears to bear the cost of $20., but he denied. There was another car next to mine which was driven by another Sears auto technician, when asked to perform the same action on the other that did not made any noise. When asked for the explanation, Scott told me it is your old car.

Sears has repaired the brake system for my 2000 Chevrolet Express since I bought the vehicle in 2005. The first brake repair happened in August 2006, then in September 2008, almost every two years as it is normal maintenance. Every time my van was serviced, I had to take it back because the work was not done correctly, some way, and Sears always fixed it. In 2010, the van did not show any problems with the brakes and was working fine until last week, when a clunking noise appeared in the front passenger side. The noise was very loud and it felt like the wheel was going to come out. I parked the van immediately and drove it to the nearest car repair service (1 and 1/2 from it was parked).

The repair shop is Firestone on Yucaipa Blvd. Initially, the service person (Luis) indicated that the problem was that the bearings were worn out and they needed to be replaced. After they began pulling the brakes/bearings apart for replacement, the Firestone mechanic found out that the thread where some screws go in was damaged. I asked how this happened and the Firestone mechanic explained that this problem (damaged thread) was the result of improper installation before. I contacted Sears and presented the problem. After phone calls to corporate, he agreed to visit Firestone to inspect my van since the vehicle was non-drivable.

The Sears manager called to indicate that they could fix it in their shop, but I had to tow it to them. I called Firestone to review after Sears' visit to their shop and they indicated that indeed Sears is willing to fix "part of the problem" and just to put some bolts to tie the nuts/bolts where the thread was damaged, which for me is not a safe fix because my van is quite a large and very heavy vehicle. In a few words, the thread problem will persist if Sears fixes it as they plan and I worry about the safety for me and my family. I feel that it is Sears' responsibility to pay for the damage they caused to my vehicle (thread damage from improper installation of bearing). So I feel that I should be compensated by Sears for their wrong doing (technically). The compensation I would like from Sears is not pay for the complete repairs of my vehicle but it would cover for what it relates to the bearings installed by Sears' staff.

I have spent a total of $577.53 on brake repair at Sear's. I am currently disputing my last charge due to fraudulent charges by Sear's. My last trip to Sears was 4-1-10 when Sears wanted to charge me another $272.82 for brake repair. I refused and went to another business and the total cost was $33 to turn the rotors. The dispute process is very frustrating and I can not seem to talk to anyone in the dispute department. Never deal with Sear's if you are a female with no idea about car repair. They will take every dollar you have.

I had my wife take my '98 old Cutlass in for a front brake job because I was working over 60 hours a week and didn't have the time to do it myself. She told them to just do the front brakes- nothing else since I knew the rears were fine. After about an hour and a half wait, they told her they checked the rear brakes (which they were told not to do) and the cylinders were leaking and the pads were "soaked" with fluid.

My wife, not sure what to do called me. I told her to not let them touch the rear brakes and just get the front ones done. She went back and told the service advisor this, who proceeded to tell my wife that they couldn't do just the front brakes, because it would be an extreme safety hazard. Which is kind of ironic, since my wife told them to forget the whole thing and had them put the tires back on, then left without any brakes done at all!

We then contacted a friend who told us to go to his mechanic. When my wife got there, she told him what we wanted done and related the story from the Sears Auto. The mechanic, just for the heck of it, took of the rear wheel and inspected the rear brakes. While it was still on the lift, he called my wife back to look at them. It turns out that not only was there no leak whatsoever, but the rear pads had like 75% or more left on them. We gladly paid what this mechanic charged, which was a mere fraction of what Sears wanted. We'll never go anywhere near that place again.

On 2-21-06, I had front brakes installed. Miles, 88,615. On 11-16-06, miles,89,719,( car in garage for 5 months) I bring the car back to Sears, breaks making noise. So called FIXED.On 11-09-07,car in garage for 6 months, guess what? brakes making noise. Miles,93,253. Again, back to Sears. Fixed again??? Noise continues, Car in garage for 6 months. On 4-16-08, Back to Sears. Miles, 95,808. Now they said they resurfaced the rotors. Noise fixed???On 11-11-08,back to Sears. Break noise, Miles, 96,330, They did nothing. Had car checked elsewhere, Front rotors are warped. Please help.

I had a complete brake job on a 2002 Chevy Trailbazer with new front rotors and brake pads on all 4 wheels. Within 16000 miles the front and rear rotors were shot and all rotors and pads needed to be replaced. All this after spending a fortune on the first job! Cheap inferior parts are being used and / or poor workmanship is to blame for this. Customer support was useless in resolving any issues with this. Waste of my time and money getting work done there

I felt as though I was being discriminated against as a woman. I brought my car in to be re-checked because it had been making noise. The first time that it had to be fixed was because of a broken exhaust gasket that had to be replaced and the company tried to cover it up because it was broken when they originally put in a starter.

Well on this trip, the cashier Danny was extremely rude. I waited at the register for about five minutes before he even came over to see what I wanted. I was the only one in the store! Then after just listening to my car out front. He lied to the mechanic and said he had drove it around the block. He did not! I was standing right there while he tested the engine. Most of all he made a rude comment saying the noise "just sounded like a truck" to him. I found that absolutely deplorable. It almost seems like he was implying that just because I was a woman, I had no clue of what I was talking about.

The final straw was his negative attitude at check out and the fact that he slammed the pen down for me to sign the paperwork. Regardless of whether or not there was anything wrong with my truck or not, the fact that I spent my money and these items are under warranty, gives me the right as a consumer to inquire about bad work!

my wife got breaks done a year ago. they also said we had a broken sway bar. he paid out about $700, 8 mos later was getting poor brake response, took it back and she was told all it was was a missing bolt. 3mos later i took the car to monroe mufflers for inspection. they found bad front brakes and yep...broken sway bar.

i had to go to sears three times to get a brake tech and he then told me the brakes were good enough to pass inspection, but would need to be changed soon (presumably after the warranty expires) he also told me the brakes are wearing unevenly but couldn't tell me why.

in the meantime...monroe said they would honnor the warranty for us and i had to pay them again to replace the same sway bar. out $700 as i really don't believe they replaced or repaired either.

I went to sears to get new brakes and rotors. I paid $728.00. Before I took my Chrysler Seabring 2007 there it was not Squeeking. I immediately took the car back and told them what was happening. They supposedly fixed it by cutting down the rotors. I left and the car was still Squeeking. I took the car back again and basically they told me it was nothing they could do about it. No one ever took a test ride in the vehicle to even see what I was talking about. I work right next door to Sears and always utilize their services but I won't be any more if something can't be done. I took my car to the dealer and they told me they can not touch it or it would void my warranty with Sears. I entrusted my car care to Sears and come to find out it was cheaper at the dealer. My vehicle is not an old vehicle there is no reason why I should have to be riding around with Squeeling and Squeeky brakes. I would like this matter to be addressed. Thank you.

I have taken my car to Sears on several occasions to have a brake job done and now my car makes a horrible noise and a clicking noise. Sears stated it is the tires and the other Sears state it is the struts. I originally entered Sears for a brake evaluation on 5.23.09. The brake evaluation was completed and they stated the front brakes. I made an appointment for 5.30.09. I took my car over to have the work done. The rep stated the ticket was not in the system for the first evaluation therefore a second one was completed. The work was performed on the back on the car. I received the car and the same thing I took it for was still there. I took my car back and they completed the work on the back. When I received the car, it was making a roaring noise. I took the car to Just Brakes were they notified me that the rotors were turned on the car passed the manufacture discharge and it placed my stopping ability in vain.

I took the car back to Sears and they replaced the rotors and left the same pads. Therefore my car has not had smooth contact from the rotors and the brakes. Therefore, the job was still not properly done. I continued to hear the noise and took the car back and the gentlemen stated the replacement parts were not completely changed first time I received the car back with the same noise. I took the car back to Just Brakes and they stated the front brakes had grooves and the back pads I just purchased were cracked and dangerous. I took the car back to Sears and they replaced the back and charged me for the front. The car is still making a noise which is the 7th time my car has been to Sears for the same job.

Now they are saying the noise is the tires. So I took it to another Sears and they state it is the struts and the constant pulling of the bearings and the strain from the improper work could have caused the strut to either break from the part needed or the screw to come out. I have e-mailed and called Sears and no one from corporate has called back or returned the email regarding the concern. Please help. I can send all needed documents.

On April 20, 2009, I took my car in for the second time to get a brake noise corrected. I got nothing but double talk, so I contacted Sears headquarters with my grievances. They answered that I would be contacted by management. As of this date, I have not received any calls or communication from their headquarters or anyone who will give me a reasonable appraisal of what took place and what they are willing to do about it!

i had my brakes @rotors done by sears after a few months they started to squeak took it back to sears, they said they put on a bad batch of pads so they replaced the front and back, well acouple of weeks later same problem, they had me take my car to chevy dealership to find problem, chevy said after market brake pads were no good, so i paid sears extra money to install original pads. well after a few more months same problem? took car back to chevy, they said sears never installed new original pads, went to sears. the people i dealt with dont work there anymore. new manager doesnt care about problem. after market pads ruined my rotors

I basically took my truck in to get aligned after i had replaced the two lower ball joints and tie rods. Kat advised me it would be a hour. After running errands I came back and watched my truck get worked on. I heard a lot of banging and saw the mechanic muscling my truck. Long story short after two hours the inside rep came outside where i was sitting and told me he had bad news. He told me that they broke the sleeve to my tie rod trying to adjust it. They said that it was not budging so they forced it with some oil and torque. Well, my tie rod snapped.

Further more, they tried to charge me double the amount for parts and wanted to charge me for labor to fix the tie rods. The manager said he was not sure if it was his guy who broke it or if the car was old, but he can't replace it for free. By this time I was stuck in Lihue which is twenty miles from home without a ride. He was not willing to budge at all. So I told him I would pay for the parts but not the labor. I told him that is only fair. I also said I would buy the parts from the store and bring it to him because he wanted to charge me way too much for the parts.

Turns out one of the representatives told me that they have to charge extra for parts to make some money. This made me so furious that I am writing this letter. I have no truck to drive to work. They didn't even offer me a ride home, and my truck is worse off then it was when i brought it in.

I paid for a brake inspection at Sears. They gave me detailed information about thicknesses and conditions of rotors and drums etc. I called around to compare prices. When I went to another shop, they said that it is likely that Sears never even looked at my rear drum brakes. Instead of shoes and drums, it needed new pistons. The cost to me was the same, so the second shop had no motivation to change what was needed. In fact, they told me that my shoes were 75 percent good. I don't know how Sears can do this kind of thing with a clear conscience.

None. I don't trust Sears any longer.

Yes I had 4 brand new tires put on my 2006 Ford Explorer SUV, They were to check to see if it needed an Front end Aligment which they state they did one, Pulled our truck in did the alignment then put the brand new tires on. Any vechile can get a front end alignment sure, but when you are putting $750 worth of new tires on the proceedure is to put the tires on then do the alignment it's common sense. reason being that way the vechile and new tires are aligned all together and it is not aliged with old worn out tires.

But this store continued to say other wise, and if you call all of your other stores they say the same thing as Fords. These people were rude and didn't even want to redo with new tires, but against better choices said they would but said it rudley!

I brought my wife's car in to have 1 strut replaced. They tried to get me to have both replaced even though only 1 needed to be done. They gave me the wrong estimate on the phone, then when I asked for a written estimate the lady was very snotty & beligarent! I was so angry! NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO BACK THERE!

When a customer asks for an estimate a auto repair shop should just give it to them and not cop a attitude about it! One of the WORST auto shops I've taken my car too!

I took my car in for back brakes and rotors. They told me it was going to be about 280 dollars. Two hours later i returned and they said i needed back brakes and rotors front rotors the left front ball joint and the right rear caliper. They wanted 863 dollars for these repairs. I said no that i was going to take it somewhere else. The customer service guy said okay and charged me 15 dollars for the inspection. About half and hour later he came back and said that they couldn't put my car back together and that i would either have to have it fixed or call a tow truck on my expense.

After 2 hours and a phone call to the police they agreed to have my car towed to my brother in laws tow shop on there expense. The police officer told me they were not braking any laws.. Sears pretty much held my car hostage. Today i was looking through my paperwork and found old bills from Sears for tires. They had just done my tires 6 weeks ago.. Shouldn't they have noticed my calipers, rotors and ball joints then? Is it legal for them to tell me i can't have my car unless i pay 863 dollars to have it fixed or call a tow truck to have it taken to another automotive shop?

I thought I needed front Brake Pads and took my car in to Sears despite all the negative reports on their service. I was pleasantly surprised that after they inspected my car, advised me that I still have some wear left on my pads and that I did not need to replace it now. I left feeling gratefull for the honesty and good service. I think it has a lot to do with individuals working for the company rather than the company itself.

I will probably go back to Sears in Natic Collection when the time does come for my Brake service.

I went to Sears to have my front and rear brakes replaced. The brakes they put on my car continued to squeak and they replaced them several times with different brakes. After many attempts to resolve the problem, I took the brakes to the Nissan dealer and they stated that the car needed Nissan brakes. So in April 2008 Sears stated that they ordered Nissan brakes and put them on my car.

Today, the brakes have crystalized and had to be replaced, but Sears did not replace my brakes with Nissan brake pads as they stated earlier. The point is that they lied to a customer and guaranteed Nissan brakes, but replaced it with some other kind of brakes.

Paying for another brake job and having the rotors turned. The brake job that Sears did almost ruined my rotors.

I called Sears and made an appointment to have my brakes serviced. I had my 18 year old daughter wait for the car. A sears rep told my daughter that I needed an air filter, fuel system service, and coolant exchange costing $171. She agreed. After that work was done they gave her an estimate for the brakes. The estimate was for $1,145.00. When asked why didn't they give her the brake estimate. I was advised that the brake tech was busy so they checked our car for other possible problems.

My problem is that I asked for a brake evaluation. My paper work says I asked for a brake evaluation at 4:33. The suggested service was offered at 4:48 and the brake evaluation was done at 6:25 after the suggested service was done. Why wasn't the brake evaluation done first. I was victimized by Sears.

Complaint: Damage caused to my brake system after work was completed on my car's rotors. I tried going through the BBB and have included my letters to them. They should explain fully the problem I have with Sears Auto Center. This was an initial letter I sent to the BBB when filing a complaint against Sears for the damage caused to my car:

Complaint Description: [On 12/14/2007 I took my 2003 Toyota 4 Runner to Sears Auto Center for a brake check because of a high pitched sound when braking and was told I needed new brake pads. The work was completed, but the high pitched sound continued. I took the car back on 1/12/2008 for a recheck of the brakes and was told that they were okay. On 2/25/2008 the high pitched noise continued and now the brakes had a "pulsating" feel when braking. I took the car back to Sears on this day; they test drove the car and determined that the rotors needed turning. The work was done.

When driving out of the parking lot, I noticed that the brakes were very "soft" and I had some difficulty stopping. I decided that Sears was not capable of performing quality brake service so I took the car into a reputable repair center the next day to have the brakes checked. On the way, the front end of the car started shaking and I had very little braking ability. After checking the car, I was told that the right front tire had only two lug nuts remaining, and they were loose and the master cylinder was not functioning. The replacement of the master cylinder and re-turning the rotors which were damaged due to the loose tire totaled $1734.22.

I have talked to the Auto Center Manager, Opal, as well as the Store Manager, Deborah B., who both refuse to acknowledge that the master cylinder was damaged do to improper re-seating of the rotor. I have also written a letter to the National Customer Relations Dept., dated 3/11/2008 with no response to date. They did refund the cost of the initial brake job, but I feel strongly that they are financially responsible for the damage they caused to the master cylinder and the rotors. Additionally, this was a very serious safety situation that should be addressed by Sears. The brake pad replacement cost $176.95 and was paid by credit card.]

The response by Opal P. was that they were not responsible for the damage and that I had put 2000 miles on my car between the second and third visits to their center. She also stated in her letter that my car did not have a master cylinder problem when they initially test drove the car.

My response was: [In response to Ms. Procell's letter, the fact that my car had 2000 miles on it between the second and third visit to the Sears Auto Center has no bearing on the issue at hand. She has, however, confirmed that when my car went into the Sears Auto Center on February 25, 2008, it did not have a brake fluid problem and it did not have soft brakes, only a rotor problem. Also, Ms. P. and Ms. Debora B., the Store Manager told me that they never opened the hood of my car and, therefore, in their words, could not have damaged the master cylinder.

This statement reflects a total lack of knowledge in how the master cylinder can most certainly be damaged without opening the car hood and also verifies that the brake fluid was NOT checked BEFORE or AFTER the rotor repair was done. This is STANDARD procedure when work is performed on ANY part of the brake system. Additionally, the car was test driven before the work was done, but was NOT test driven once the work was completed. I personally watched my car being lowered from the lift and driven the very short distance to the parking lot. Because these two important safety procedures were omitted, they would not have been able to ascertain whether or not my brakes were in good working order when they completed the work.

As I stated before, my brakes were noticeably soft throughout my drive home that evening and I made the decision to take the car to Southern Automotive, a service center that I am quite familiar with rather than back to Sears again. I have attached a letter from the Service Manager, Sammy G., explaining the condition of my car the next morning after I arrived at his service center.

My concern continues to be not only the significant amount of damage that was done as a direct result of Sears Auto Center's negligence, but also the safety issues involved. Their lack of standards before, during and after working on the brake system is of great concern to me. It should be of concern to Sears Company that neither Ms. P., nor the mechanic that performed the work on my car are aware of how the master cylinder can be damaged if the system is not blocked off when removing the rotor; they are not aware that some brake fluid is lost when the rotor is detached and that it MUST be replaced and all air flushed out for the brake system to function and you have to open the hood to do that. The fact that they failed to tighten the lug nuts and did not test drive the car before releasing it to me confirms their total lack of professional standards.

The seriousness of this situation cannot be understated and I will continue to demand action on the part of Sears to take responsibility for the damage caused and the unsafe condition I was subjected to because of their gross negligence. Sears is very fortunate that I did not lose my right front tire on the Interstate. Coupled with very limited braking ability, the results could have been catastrophic and I can assure you that we would not be settling this issue through the Better Business Bureau. I have attached copies of the Sears receipt dated 2/25/2007, the Southern Automotive repair receipt, dated 2/26/2008 and a letter from the Service Manager of Southern Automotive. Please note that the mileage difference between these two receipts is 24 miles.]

I have a copy of the letter from Mr. G. at Southern Automotive, as mentioned above. BBB did not prove to be very helpful except that Sears moved my complaint from the local office to the Sedgwick Claims Mgt. Center. They have offered to settle at 1/2 the amount owed, with the usual Release requirements. I am not satisfied with this, but am afraid to move to the next level, being Small Court, only because I have been told that Sears can have the case moved to the Circuit Court, thereby forcing me to use an attorney. Because of the gross neglience of Sears Auto Center, my master cylinder (which was an $1100 part in a Toyota 4 Runner) and the rotors were damaged due to the loose tire. Total cost was $1734.22, not to mention the safety issues mentioned above.

On June 25, 2008, we went to Sears Auto Center for brakes on our cadillac. For what was to be a simple procedure, they kept us there from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m. When the vehicle was finally ready, they said that we had to take it to the dealership, since the dealer had a "special tool" to do the rear brakes. In the original estimate, Sears said they would do the rear roters.

On July 1, 2008, we took our vehicle to the cadillac dealership. They had to replace the right rear hub flange, and bearing, since it was stripped. According to the dealer, Sears had caused this damage. We went back to Sears, but they claim they didn't do it, even though the dealership says they were responsible. We were charged $682.42 from Sears; and $877.25 from the cadillac dealership. We have copies of our receipts stating what each service center did. We are elderly, as well as not being in very good heath. This caused us a lot of problems. We would hope that Sears would reimburse us for what the cadillac dealership charged us.

We made an appointment to have our 2000 Toyota Solara serviced. The vehicle needed new tires, brake service and an oil change. The vehicle was dropped off on the morning of May 22nd. That afternoon, a representative from Sears contacted us and told us that our car had been in an accident and hit a pole. We were told to secure a rental car while the damage was being repaired. As it turns out, our car is so badly damaged that it cannot be repaired to a safe driving condition and has been totaled.

The vehicle was being driven by auto shop employees supposedly to road test the new tires and/or brakes. Somehow this led to the vehicle jumping a curb and being slammed into a concrete light pole in the parking lot. Our car was damaged to the point that it cannot be repaired to a safe driving condition and has been totaled. Obviously, this leads to significant economic consequences for our family. We now have no vehicle and have had to incur the costs of purchasing a new vehicle (tax, tag, title fees, car payments and increased insurance costs). Sears liability insurance (Sedgwick)has ultimately paid for the rental car and given us a small pittance for our destroyed car.

my wife took her honda civic there for breaks on 5-6-08. after driving for a couple days she heard some rattling and grinding in the rear of the car, she decided to take her car back to sears to see what the problem was, she had her daughter drop of the car at 9 am, she never received any calls from there and when she tried to call she could not get through to the auto department. so she sent her daughter back to see if it was ready

when her daughter got there the car was on the lift still with the rear tires off and the hubs off exposing brand new broken break pad on the rear passenger side. it was broken due to the fact that they were not adjusted correctly and my wifes daughter who has a lot of auto mechanic experiance and also worked for sears in fla, told the mechanic, nana what tools he needed, was told to mind her own business and did not know what she was talking about, she called my wife who decided to go t sears and try to get her car fixed right.

when my wife got there the mechanic nana, told my wife his manager neil who was off that day told him to put the hubs and tires back on and get them out of his shop and tell them they can get a refund, my wife tried to explain to nana that she needed car fixed correctly and that she uses it for her business, he told her it was not his problem, so my wife being very upset called me at my place of employment to come to sears and help her out. when i got there no one was even trying to help her. not one person in the auto shop knew what to do.

i kept getting the run around. about 20 minutes later the so called manager showed up with a major attitude and called nana over to the car which he got very rude and his hand in my face. i told him to remove his hands from my face and neil said he was going to call the poilce. i asked them what right did they have to put a car that they had not repaired the breaks correctly back on the road. did they not have any concern for the saftey of their customers or other people on the rd, what if my wifes breaks fail coming to a stop or a sudden stop not to mention the lives of our young grandaughters who we pick up from time to time,

after about 15 minutes of heated discussion with neil he decided to go get new breaks and have nana put them on. they finally got the new breaks on her car at about 830 in the evening, sears auto and neil and nana have no respect for the safety of their customers, i will be honest and say that i had very heated exchange with both of them for disrespecting my wife and stepdaughter but i was very upset at the fact they would send a car with breaks they put on that were damaged due to their error.

if anyone in the sears organization cares, my wife and her daughter deserve an apology, we do a lot of business there, my wife owns a very popular cleaning business and buys several vacuums from there a year not to mention xmas presents clothes for me from time to time, but i dont think anyone cares for it took them over to hours to get me a 800# for complaints they said they didnt have one, i bet you dont i said, now 3 days later and several promises from corporate personel that the regional manager would call us, guess what no call, but i will tell you all one thing i know a lot of people in charlottesville, i will make sure the word gets around on how bad sears treat women customers. so sears if you actually do care and read this and neil and nana are a mistake call us and make it right, brakes are probably the most important safety feature on a car.

Went in to have a new caliper put on. After it was all done, I drove the car around for 4 days until I went to just check on it make sure it wasn't leaking and there was brake fluid all over my rim and tire. Then I looked at it better and the guy at sears had left off crush bushing and the break line was leaking. Lucky I caught it in time or I would have had no brakes to stop the car. They did fix the problem after waiting for 1hr. Just a warning to all check over the work you have done there and I will never have my car worked on there again.

07-26-07 Sears East Town Mall Madison WI. installed an alternator for$362.91. Late 01-2008 it was needing jumpstarts: dead drained battery. 02-03-08 Sears West Town Mall installed battery without checking any parts: $119.19. 02-04-08 battery was dead again. Sears West said sounds like alternator. Take back to Sears East. On 02-04-08 Sears E performed what they said was alt/batt test, and both checked good. They said to take it to dealer because they do not have the high tech equipment to test for electrical shorts. In the mean time battery continues dying.

On 02-12-08 Gordie Bouchie Lincoln Mercury performed alt/batt test for $50.33 and could not find problem but admitted something is causing battery drain. GBLM said next time vehicle dies do not have it jump started, but have it towed it to be tested while dead. 02-17-08 used Schmidts Auto Inc (recommended by GBLM) to tow to GBLM: $73.85 as battery dead again. 02-18-08 GBLM traced short to Diode in alternator. GBLM installed alternator: $529.43. Battery indicator is where it should be. No more dead battery. GBLM gave me the bad alternator to return to Sears.

On 02-23-08, I went to Sears East Town and met with Pat, the manager, who said I should have taken it back to them, but they did not tell me to do that. I am out a total of$1135.71 not to mention the stress of it all, missed work, borrowed car, etc. Someone needs to make it right instead trying to stick their fingers deeper into my wallet. How sad in this day and age that greed takes precedence over good, quality work. I hope this is not a hopeless case for me as Sears East pretty much implied "go ahead, call consumer protection". I was satisfied with the service at GBLM, not SEARS. I have the paperwork for all dates and services above and a boxed alternator core which is the one Sears E installed.

I went in to Sears for a battery problem. I bought a new battery. The car started for a couple days, then it would not. I used all three of my AAA calls to have it towed when I was out and it wouldn't start to get me back home. I used my sister's car for over a month until I could have it towed to the dealer to have it placed on the machine to see why I was having a problem. The conclusion was that the negative cable was not connected properly. I called the Sears Parts Department at the time the dealer told me this. The representative said there was no way that was the problem and was very rude to me. He would not giving me his name or his supervisor for me to contact. I have spoken to three master mechanics and they all said the dealer was correct because the cable was shorting out and that's why it would work sometimes and sometimes it wouldn't. For two months I had car problems until finally the problem was solved. I had to be without my car and take the rudeness from the Sears employee, not to mention the money I had to pay out because of Sear's error.

I had to pay for the dealership to place it on the machine to see what was causing the problem. I was without my car and it had to be towed when it didn't start.

Went in for brake check. They said I needed $600 in repairs, all brakes were bad. Went to Ford dealer and just the front brake pads were needed. $200. I buy a lot from Sears, so disappointed and mad.

My daughter took her 2001 Blazer to Sears at the end of March 2007 to have the brakes fixed. They said everything needed to be replaced and approx $1700 later we thought it was. On August 28, 2007 my daughter had a car accident due to her brakes failing. Her Insurance company is investigating - however they determined that the accident was caused by a total brake failure.

The Blazer was totaled and the other car received over $2700 in damages. Thankfully no one was seriously injured.

Today I did a Google search for sears auto to find the phone number for the closest Sears store. The first result provided me the information I needed the second is www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/sears_auto_center.htm

I should have read the second link more closely.

I called to inquire about rear brakes for a 1998 Expedition that I use for just short errands and explained that I knew that it needed lots of things as it was recently inspected by a competitor I was given a quote of $110-$120 and made arrangements to be there right away so I could shop at the Mall during the short time they said it would take. I made it clear that I just wanted rear brakes and and oil change at this time.

Forty-Five minutes later I was called and said the estimate to repair the Car was $340 with a bunch of additional service I did not order. I said I would just take it back to your competition where the were going to do the repairs for $160.00 and with 1 and 1/2 hours of my time wasted I went to pick up my car and was told I had a $15 inspection charge,

I was livid and left without paying telling them they had my address and phone number. They refused to let me contact a manager or provide me with any contact information for regional or national complaints. I returned home and read the second website mentioned and I quote:

"...It would be worth your time to browse through the complaints listed to the right before making a decision." Nothing could be more true.

I brought my 1996 dodge grand caravan (LE) in to get a brake job. They replaced the router, the brake pads and it cost me $920.45.This work was done in january of 2006.I brought it back beacause,I felt there was something wrong with the brakes. They checked the brakes and said nothing was wrong with the brakes.

I brought it back twice, and both times they said there was nothing wrong. Now, more than a year later i got the car inspected and after the inspection i had problems with my brake line. I think it was the fact that they were lazy that they didnt see anything wrong with my brakes.

I went to get my brakes and rotors changed for my car. Once I entered Sears, I was told that I would not be able to get a written estimate, unless I paid a $15.00 service fee. This fee would enable them to get a better idea of what I needed to be done. I insisted that, all I needed for my vehicle were brakes, two rotors. How hard can this be.

Sears and their manager insisted that they were unable to give me a free written estimate because it wouldn't cover everything unless it was checked throughly, through the $15.00 check. I asked the manager if this was a Sears policy, they said NO, but they were told to do this.

I went in to get my brakes and rotors changed on a 2006 Ford 500/ the maintenance guy played around with my calibers and the piston popped out. This was their fault of course they are trying to tell me it wasnt. After my car being there for 2 days with no work done on it they told me I have to replace the calibers and pay for it.

Well I got it towed out of there and sent to Ford dealership where they told me it is totally ruined and needs to be replaced and I am responsible for paying for it. Ford told me it is warranty but not covered if another department other than Ford ruins it. So he told me he would write me up a form and telling me what was wrong and how much so i can then take it back to sears to get rembursed. My questions and concern is how do i go about getting my money back for these calibers which 3 mechanics have told me was their fault.

I went in for some brake work..I was experiencing squeaky, shuttering brakes. I was about due for some brake work on my car so I knew it was going to be pretty expensive. After checking it out, they called and said I was going to have to have 2 drums, the rotors, and the pads replaced. When I hear parts need to be replaced, I always request that I want to keep the original parts they are going to take out of my car. We gave Jeff the go ahead to do the work on the car and asked him to keep all the parts for us.

Sure enough, when we go to pick up the car the next day, the service clerk said Jeff never told them they had to keep the parts. Their only solution was to have some other service guy go dig through the dumpster and guess which ones were mine. No thank you I dont have time to sit around for 3 hours while they guess which parts are mine.

I have been burned by car servicing centers (not sears) in the past and I was a little weary of Sears bc I have read so many bad reports about them, thus the reason I asked to keep all my old parts. I didnt get a good feeling from Jeff and some of the people in there to begin with and this little mistake about them forgetting about keeping my used parts makes me feel like I got hosed and maybe had some extra work done that didnt necessarily need to be done.
