Honda - Airbags

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I made an appointment to have an airbag recall inspection done at Brown Honda Service in Toledo, Ohio. I arrived and was then informed that it would take 1 1/2 hours to look at the airbag. It was just an inspection, not a replacement. That is entirely too long for this to take. They should have informed me of the time when I called to make the appointment. I left very unhappy about the lack of customer service. The tech did call to suggest he come and pick up the car, but I was not going to give up my entire Saturday for this.

The passenger side airbag turns off and on with a ding, at random times, while my teenagers have been passengers. The car takes the same route on the way to and from work, with a teenager, and in the morning, the side passenger airbag goes off and on sometimes. One morning it went off and on 31 times, in a 35 minute drive, with the beeping warning. Other mornings, it goes off and on a few times, and some mornings it never goes off. On the way home in the afternoons, it doesn't go off. It was the same drive, with the same people involved. The teenager has only sat in the seat, and has not moved all around in the seat. Also, the car is brand new, and have only had it for less than one month.

I was a passenger in my sister's 08 Honda Civic and we were struck in right rear of car by another pickup truck. The side curtain deployed and shattered and done damage to the side of my face, head, right arm, elbow and right eye.

I could not see due to solar glare and accidentally hit a 4-foot steel pole at about 10 miles an hour. I was wearing gloves because it was very cold that morning. My 2003 Honda Odyssey airbag deployed and the chemical from the airbag burned holes through both gloves. I did suffer minor burns but basically the gloves protected me from very serious burns. According to Honda, based on my VIN, I do not have an airbag that necessitated recall. This is my 3rd Honda in the course of 20 years and I am very disappointed. I also feel so fortunate that it was a cold morning when the airbag went off.

In June 2011, I was hit by another car that changed lanes into the right passenger side of my 2006 Honda minivan, pushing me head on into the concrete barrier dividing the oncoming lanes of traffic. My driver's side airbag deployed. The airbag deployment broke my right wrist and severely lacerated my left thumb cutting through an artery. I am on Coumadin, so the bleeding was quite severe.

I had a accident in 2010 with my 2005 Honda pilot and the air bag came out only on the passenger side and burn my son's arm bad. It never came out on the driver side. My experience with the 2005 Honda was rated very poorly. My son was treated at the emergency room for second degree burn on has arm. This cause him to be out of work for 2 weeks. Please let me know who should this be directed to for investigation.

A tree fell on the road in front of me when I was traveling at 55 mph. I hit the tree head on and came to a complete stop. The airbags in my 2008 Honda Fit Sport did not deploy. The police that took my report said that they should have deployed in a frontal crash. The body shop said that the sensors on the Fit are too low and can't sense that a crash had occurred. The car was a total loss.

My 2008 certified used Honda Accord (SDN/4 DR, EX-L) was hit hard from the front left side and none of my airbags deployed. I was at a stand still (at a stop sign), the fast oncoming vehicle crashed into me causing me to skid 10 feet, knocking my front bumper off, shattering my windows and I have been told my front axle is broke. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol recommended I file a complaint since none of my airbags deployed.

I was in an accident -- a frontal impact that damaged my car. The side air bags on the passenger's side deployed even though there was no damage to the passenger's side of the car. However, the front air bags did not go off, even though that was where the major damage occurred.

The car door on my 2008 Honda Accord was slammed. There's no damage to the door or car, just a slammed door. When the door slammed, the airbags went off in my car. Also, my leather seats ripped open when the airbags went off, and the head lining in the car was damaged too for the same reason. The damage from the airbags deploying cost $2400.00. Should they have gone off with just a slammed door?

I was driving around 45-50mph along Hwy 45 North with my sister one day. All of a sudden, the passenger's side seat and curtain airbag deployed on its own. I immediately stopped the car to take a look to see if I had hit anything, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with my car nor tires. I even took a look under the bottom and nothing seemed to have caused the airbag to deploy. A state trooper was passing by and stopped to ask what the problem was. I explained that my airbag just all of a sudden deployed. He took a look under my car and in the streets to see if anything was in the road. He then stated it seems like you may have a defective airbag. He also stated that if I needed him to write a report to state that nothing was in plain view that could have caused this problem for my insurance company or car company.

I immediately contacted Carl Hogan, which is the place I purchased my car, because I felt like since I didn't have an accident, my insurance company was at fault. They asked me to bring my car in to inspect it. When I arrived, a guy named Spencer told me that airbags wasn't covered under warranty. I stated that, I understand that if I had an accident, but if it's defective, I shouldn't be held responsible. They took about 30 minutes to look at my car and told me it looks as if something bounced off and damaged the sensor, to call my insurance company.

They also quoted me a price of $2500 for the total damages. I contacted my insurance company to file a claim and a few days later, an appraiser came out. He stated that since there were no physical damages, they were not at fault. I explained that I took my car in to where I purchased it and they told me that it looks as if the sensor is damaged. The appraiser told me that the car would have to be broken down to know if the sensor is damaged or defective. He said that he would get back in contact with my insurance company and go from there.

Well, a few days later, Brent from Safeway insurance called me and stated that they were not paying the claims and if my car has to be torn down to see if the sensor was damaged or defective, I would have to pay for the expenses. If it ends up being their fault, they would reimburse me. I even contacted American Honda and they informed me to file a report with MS Hwy Patrol Safety. I filed a report and haven't heard anything since. I would never purchase another Honda Accord and I encourage everyone else to do the same as this is a safety issue that seriously needs addressing. If anyone can please offer some legal advice, I would definitely appreciate it!

I was involved in a head-on collision in my 2002 Honda Accord. The airbag deployed with such force that it exploded. The skin on my left wrist and right hand were stripped to the bone. I had other injuries from the accident, but my hands burned so bad that was all I noticed until the policeman took me home. I was treated by paramedics at the accident for the burns on my hands. I ws treated by the burn specialiists at Kaiser hospital for months afterwards. My doctors thought they would have to do a skin graft, but luckily they did not. I have permanent scarring and arthritis from the incident, I didn't know at the time that airbags are not supposed to explode. I was never compensated for my injuries.

I was driving my 2001 Honda Accord on the freeway by myself. The roads were clear and smooth. It was a beautiful California day. Suddenly, an ear shattering explosive sound came from the passenger side of the vehicle. I was terrified, but nothing mechanical appeared to be wrong with the car. No problems with the tires or engine. No visual damage to the inside of the car. What I think happened is the driver's side airbag explosive device went off, but the airbag did not deploy, thankfully in this case.

When I called my Honda dealer, they told me it was impossible for that to happen. They told me I must have hit something on the road. I suggested maybe the airbag did not deploy, because it was defective, not to mention the deployment device is defective! Now, I need to take the car in for repairs, and pay a tremendous amount of money for what I believe is a defect in the car.

In July 2008, I was involved in a collision - left front side, including driver's door which sustained major damage. My wife, the driver, suffered open fractures to the upper left arm and thigh. The front airbags deployed , but the side one did not. I maintained that the side airbag on the driver's side might have prevented the seriousness of the injury.

I corresponded with Honda Japan, and included picture documentation and a report of the adjuster which confirmed that the side bag did not open. They referred me to Honda Israel, where the car was bought new in December 2004 (2005 model) and serviced only through the Honda approved maintenance. The local dealer claimed, in a meeting with the engineer in charge of mechanical issues, "If the airbag did not open, there was no need for it to open".

They denied any possibility of mechanical failure, and denied any responsibility, maintaining that Honda has 0% mechanical failure. The car was a total loss. My wife was almost a total loss, suffering broken thigh and upper arm, broken right knee which required 3 months' hospital stay, rehabilitation until this time, and 30% general loss of function. I am curious if anything could be done with Honda which would get them to compensate on this matter.

I had an accident with defective airbag. I believe it did not deploy in time and did not expand all the way. It's a driver side recall. I did not contact Honda yet. I fractured my sternum and am out on disability for several weeks. The 2001 Honda Civic was a certified used car and is still under extended warranty.

I was driving through an intersection in my 2004 Honda Civic when a driver coming from the opposite direction ignored my right of way and turned into me. Her car hit me in the front, favoring the driver's side. The police estimated we were both driving about 20 mph and were shocked that my airbags did not deploy. I am still dealing with injuries from the crash three weeks later. The original estimate is about $5,100 for my car and I was told that the frame was bent, so there was significant damage. The autobody shop told me they needed to replace the front airbag sensor because it was damaged in the crash.

Luckily the other driver's insurance company is paying for all of the expenses, including property damage and medical expenses. I have had an ER visit, chest xray, EKG, a sesond doctor's visit, and prescription medication for pain. I am scheduled to undergo therapy from a chiropractor, as my neck pain has not decreased. I have had a significant amount of chest pain when breathing, lifting, laughing, etc. I expect the total payout from insurance to be over $10,000 once the claim is settled.

My daughter was driving our 2003 Honda Civic and she lost control of the vehicle and rolled it then flipped upside down in a deep ditch. We had gotten much rain and the car filled up with water. She could have drowned. But somehow someway she managed to get herself out. It is a miracle she lived. She thankfully was wearing her seatbelt. The car is a "TOTAL". I am VERY concerned though that NONE of the airbags deployed???? rolling and then flipping upside down and NO deployment?? Hummm... The car had an extremely HARD hit to the front when flipping upside down so I do not understand this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

2004 Honda Accord has an intermittent problem with the drivers seat belt. A contact in the seat belt latch is causing the Air Bag system to malfunction. My local Honda dealership stated that the air bag will not function with this problem. An internet search shows many Honda's with the same problem. This problem in the seat belt disables the air bag and also disables the seat belt warning light which warns the driver if the seat belt is not latched. The Honda warrantee states that "any Honda seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use" is covered by a lifetime warrantee. However, Honda is refusing to replace the seat belt latch under warrantee.

We were driving our Honda Civic 2003 in South Dakota coming out of a National Park and hit a deer that came into the road at 75 miles a hour. The deer smashed into the front of the car causing the hood to pop up and totally cover our windshield blocking our view, the deer then rolled up into the engine and bounced off the windshield before rolling off the side of the car. It would have come through the windshield if the hook hadn't protected us.

However out of the four airbags in the car none went off except the drivers side one which malfunctioned and only went out by 3 inches. When I asked Honda why they didn't work they said it all depends on where the impact is. How about on the front of the car and coming through our windshield at 75 miles a hour?

I then asked them if they have ever had any recalls and they then had to tell me they had a class action lawsuit in 2006 for the airbag issues. Our car was totalled. We were lucky we weren't hurt or had to rely on the airbags. Hondas are death traps. Get rid of yours if you have one.

On 03/31/2009 at 2:30pm traveling North on I-95, in slow lane... I swerved to avoid car-carrier ramp ladder.
According to FHP report, I rolled my '05 Honda Element four times, ending up off the shoulder.
My DRIVERS SIDE airbag also only partially deployed.
Have eye-witness to accient who will cooperate.
LIfe Flighted to Shands Hospital Jacksonville.
I suffered severely fractured sternum, two, full-width rotator cuff tears to LEFT arm... side where airbag did not deploy fully.

Will need surgery and extensive rehap, plus loss of wages. I am a registered nurse. thanks for listening.

I have a 2008 Honda Accord EX that I have been leasing for less than a year and a half. Last week, I was in the car while it was turned on and my 18 month old son was in the back seat and my husband was in the passenger seat. My husband had to get out of the car to get something, when he closed the door, all of the passenger side airbags deployed including the seat airbag and the curtain airbags. Thankfully they did not hurt my son. We have taken the car to Honda of Princeton, NJ and they have told us that this is our fault and the car did its job. I really never knew that by closing my door while the car is on should cause any airbags to deploy.

I always thought Hondas were great cars yet I have completely changed my mind about that. In the little time that I have had this car, I have already needed my muffler replaced, my brake pads were warped and now this. Honda told me to file a claim with my insurance, but the insurance says this is a Honda defect. I dont believe I should have to pay a penny out of my pocket to get this fixed since this is definitely a problem with Honda, especially after reading about the many other similar situations that other people have had with Honda cars. To top it off, the estimate I was given by mu insurance adjuster was close to $4000.00.

I was driving to my local Ralphs and as I made a left turn to go into the parking lot, for no apparent reason, my side airbags deployed! It was only the side curtain airbags. I didn't hit anything and no one hit me, but for some reason they just deployed. I tried to look under the car to check if something came up off the road and hit my car but I couldn't see anything.

I didn't get hurt or anything like that but my airbags will no longer be there in case that I get into an actual accident! And if i was to sell my car in the future it no longer has those airbags which will make people think that my car has been in an accident but in reality the airbags deployed on their own with no apparent reason!!!

Honda Civic 2007 air bags did not deploy nor did the drivers seat belt lock in place when my daughter and friend hit a path of ice and spun around hitting the ditch thus rolling the car twice.

sustained a concussion as well as minor sprains - car is a total write off.

I've had my 1998 Honda Accord since it was new. I've never had the airbags deploy. So it was a surprise to me when I was severly re-ended (my trunk is now in my back seat) and pushed into another vehicle (major frontal damage) that none of my airbags deployed. I had my seat belt on, thank goodness because the impact was so severe my glasses on my face were found on the back seat floor. There is no reason why my airbags didn't deploy!

I went by ambulance to ER for neck and back trama. I'm being treated for both neck and back pain.

I was driving home from school late one night on the freeway, when all of a sudden my passenger side curtain airbag deployed. Due to the surprise of the deployment, I swerved nearly side swipping the vehicle to my left. I even had the CHP called in reference to possible debris on the road. CHP got back to me and said that nothing was found in the area. Therefore I didn't hit anything on the road.

I filed a claim with my insurance company and they said it was a manufactures problem. I then took my 2003 Honda Accord to Unicars Honda to get an answer for the deployment. They then charged me $102.00 just to tell me that there was no impact and the sensors registered deployed. Unicars Honda gave me an estimate of $5,000.00 or more to fix my car. Unicars Honda did not make any attempt to take responsibility for the manufactures malfunction. They would prefer I pay out of pocket to further diagnose the problem.

Unicars Honda also feels that it is the insurance companies responsibility to prove that it is indeed a manufacture malfunction. My insurance company also says the car is not driveable due to the airbag deployment. This is our only form of transportation. My daughter who is 4 years old, my boyfriend and I all depend on this car for our jobs and school. I am in need of legal assistance. If someone could please contact me.

Due to this problem, I had to make arrangements for my daughter to be picked up from school and I had to miss some work. There is extensive physical damage to the interior due to the deployment of the airbags. I was also very fortunate that I was not injured traveling at freeway speeds.

On 01/27/2009 I let my daughter borrow my 1998 Honda Accord SE. She hit another vehicle from the rear the airbag on the passenger side deployed, but on the driver side the airbag never deployed. My daughter hit her head and when the LMS got there she was having a seizure from the impact of the accident. It was serious enough that the LMS put her on a helicoper to Flowers Hospital in Enterprise, Al because they thought that she had a head injury.

I look on consumeraffairs and seen since 2003 there has been accidents after accidents and nothing has been done. I feel that when I allowed for my only child to borrow my vehicle I did not know I was putting my child in a death trap. When will this stop! and when will consumeraffairs make this known to the entire world! Because Honda is rated one of the top rated vehicle's. Who is protecting us!

My daughter is still in a lot of neck and back pain. I know that the car will be total and the airbag never deployed. Please have an attorney contact me!

On December 16, 2008 I was involved in an accident where I ran through a red light and hit a SUV. Since I thought my light was green I was going about 40 mph in my 1998 Honda Accord EX. The airbags did not deploy. My 14 year old was in the passenger seat and we were both shaken up a bit but we were both able to walk away. The car was totaled but I still feel that something should be done, even if it is only that someone else reads this post and thinks again before purchasing a Honda vehicle.

Since the accident my daugther has complained about back pain and I have been experiencing back and shoulder pain on a regular basis. I already suffer from athritus so the additional back pain is just that an additional pain. Thank you for having this forum.

I was in a bad accident in my 03 Honda CR-V. I hit a Dodge Durango going 40mph. The impact was all front end for me and the air bags never deployed. WHAT!?!?!?! Thank God my daughter and I were both ok.

I was in an accident today. The road's speed limit is 55 so I am extimating that the crash was about 35 miles per hour. I rear ended the car in front of me and my air bag did not deploy. I now have severe back and neck strain and pain.

I have severe back and neck pain and strain as well as muscle spasams

While my wife-8mo old son and, mother-in-law drove my 2005 Honda element down a gravel driveway the side curtain airbag on the drivers side deployed. This driveway was just that; a driveway. It lead to a house that someone lived in-now I'm not sure but a regularly maintained driveway should not enduce an airbag to deploy. My mother-in-law had a sore red burn mark on her left elbow-and my 8mo old son was quite startled as well as my wife. The noise was earth shattering according to my wife-she said that her ears were ringing long after the incident. One can only imagine what my son was feeling or hearing at that time.

The car was purchased as a certified used honda-and I also purchased the $1500 honda WRAP coverage which states that it is a 48 month 100,000k powertrain warranty and a 50,000k other than powertrain warranty. Everything was going smoothly down at the dealership (who has been outstanding to work with) until the factory got involved. Honda of America basically said that airbags don't just deploy-and that my mother-in-law must have hit something and that I need to get my insurance company involved? 45 days and some hundreds of phone call's later I still have not gotten any farther than I was on day one.

I don't feel that this is my insurance companies problem, I feel that this is a safety issue that Honda needs to address, and fast; because if one of these bags goes off on someone in heavy freeway speed traffic the end result could be terrible. Honda needs to place a recall on these vehicles before someone is seriously hurt. I'm just thankful that my family was traveling slow and other than some ringing ears and sore elbow's they are safe and sound.

The economic damages to me came in the form of a $1,250.00 repair bill that looks like it's coming out of my pocket. If you include the purchase of the warranty the total comes to $2,849.

I purchased the car in California in 2005. It has less than 19,000 miles and the air bag sensor will not go off, this sensor is a known issue with Honda and no recalls have been done to fix this issue. Several complaints have been filed with the NHTA already. The internet is loaded with complaints from buyers spending hundreds of dollars and getting nowhere on this issue. My sensor just went out, my car is less than 4 years old and is now not safe to drive. Unlike other car owners I have no money to spend running around from dealer to dealer to fix a known safety issue with this car. Honda should fix this without any expense on my part.

My car is unsafe to drive due to the airbag sensor stuck in the on position. In an accident I would have no airbags. I currently have a car that I pay monthly car payments of $286.00 on plus insurance $105.95 and it's not safe to drive. I do think this would make an interesting story if they refuse to fix my car. With the current financial crisis and American Car companies offering such good deals seeing a grandma and her grandkids taking a Honda in and trading it in on an American car would be very interesting.

The Honda Minivan rocks! I was hit on the drivers side sliding door while going 40mph through a green light. (Other driver's fault) My van rolled upside down, skated along the road and landed right side up - and I am fine!! My side air bag went off and the whole side of my van is crushed -all the windows imploded - the roof is crushed but my seat belt held. In my photos you can see the steal beams still holding - and so, thanks for making a live saver of a van!

i was driving to work and i swerved to miss a dog in my 2003 honda accord. i over corrected and lost control of the vehicle i hit my head and was unconcious for the rest of this. my car was sliding sideways down the rd and hit grass which threw the car into the air it then barrel rolled for 25 ft in the air before smashing into a house the car was totaled the drivers side was chrushed in and the car was completly sideways and none of the air bags deployed.does this happen alot?

I hydroplanned recently in my 1996 Honda Accord and crashed sideways into a rock then down a steep ditch. The airbags did not deploy. The firemen and deputies that worked the crash said the airbags should have gone off.

I had a gash over my left eye and a hair line fracture in the back of my head from the force of the wreck. I now have severe headaches.

The Immaculate Honda Airbag Deployment - Part II My wife and two daughters were traveling down a gravel road in our 2005 Honda Odyssey when the side curtain airbags both deployed for no apparent reason. The State Farm Ins. rep has determined that there was no collision or impact of any kind. Honda says its not under warranty so they will not cover anything.

When the airbags deployed the front seatbelts jerked backed and caused bruising and subsequent soreness in the collarbone area to both my wife and oldest daughter. Both daughters were somewhat traumatized by the very loud boom! Believe it or not, the cost to reinstall the airbags is $6,400.

In July 2006 my back tire bloew out and I fishtailed onto the side of the road. Then my 1993 Honda Civic flipped over twice. The airbag did not deploy! I have severe neck strain and muscle strain and am under care of a chiropracter and massage therapist. I still have a lot of pain but I am glad I didn't die. Wonder why the airbag didn't deploy though...

2003 Honda Odyssey Van was at a stop and was rear ended by an asphalt semi truck which cuased a front end collision with a car in front. The semi was traveling approximatly 45 mph. No airbag deployed. Van was totaled and our associate was injuried. We purchased the Honda because it was a safe and reliable. We since have changed our minds.

I owned a Honda Civic 2007 and was in an accident on I-95. My car was hit three times-along the side, then the drivers door and finally the front of the car. Not a single airbag deployed. THe car was totaled. I called Honda to tell them that I believed the had a design flaw. They suggested that this was a matter between me and my insurance company. A few days later I was contacted by an independent investigator. (I later found out that he is independant, but he fee was paid by Honda.) He expressed his concern and wanted to have an opportunity to see what happend to the airbags. It also appeared to me that he was trying to do some damage control for Honda. He sent someone out to take a look at the car and a week or so later, I got a call from this person who looked at my car and he said the side airbags didn't go off because it wasn't a direct hit to the side and the front didn't go off because we were not going fast enough. Frankly none of this made any sense- the drivers door was hit directly and we were spun into a tractor trailer-I can't imagine a better reason for them to deploy! As far as going too slow. On the first impact we were going 60 mph the second two impacts happened within seconds of each other. Its all a mystery why Honda isn't taking complaints seriously.

While in a accident with my 2003 Honda Accord, traveling on the 91 freeway in Southern California, my driver side airbag did not deploy while my passenger airbag did. This accident included a 3 car pile up with me cought in the middle. As I was coming to a stop in traffic the vehicle behind me rear ended me and thrusting me into the vehicle in front of me. Unfortunately, the driverside airbag did NOT deploy while the passenger did. Both the back end and front end are totally destroyed thus a complete total loss of vehicle

We were in an accident on the interstate where a kady stopped in the fast lane at an on ramp because she thought someone was coming over on her and then our CRV got rear-ended by another vehicle doing apeorximately 60 mph and pushed us into her vehicle and our seat-belts did not hold nor did the airbags deploy. My husband had just returned from overseas with a head and neck and braininjurry and received severe whiplash and broke s jaw tooth out and a week after the accident I was found found to hsve not only whiplash but an aneurysm which rrequired brain surgery. maybe if he safety features would have worked properly neither of us would be going through thid at all and we had children in Hondas also with the SRS lights on but since this accident we have traded them and got safer vehicles. When I called my case rep and told him they marked doen the valuee of our trade-in because of the safety system llgth being on he told me I should have gone to another dealer until I found one that eould give us the price we wanted for our Honda and the safety issue was not mentioned.

Our Honda Odyssey 2001 recently had two broken front springs. While no Honda SB has been issued to my knowledge, and NHSTA closed their investigation(PE06-007)I thought I should pass along the info .

On 12/08/07 I was approaching a narrow, steep and very curvy road. I was driving a 2004 Honda CRV and was driving approximately 30 to 35 mph. The road was wet from a recent rain. As I approached the first steep curve, I applied my brakes and the car began to skid. I tried to correct the skid but the steep incline and wet pavement prevented me from doing so. The car skidded across the road into a high dirt embankment. The first point of impact was the drivers headlight and drivers side of car. The damage was so severe I had to be removed from the car using jaws of life. The only airbag to deploy was the front passenger airbag (the side the sustained the least amount of damage). No other airbags deployed. The road was wet from an earlier rain. As I approached the first steep curve I applied my brakes. I did not press hard, just the normal pressure to slow the car. My car immediately slid to the right and began to accelerate. I applied my brakes again and the car spun around and was completely out of control. I accelerated down the curve, and I tried to bring the car back under control. I slid across the steep curve and hit a high dirt embankment. The left headlight and drivers side hit first.

On November 19th, 2007 I was coming home from work alone in my 2006 Honda Civic Ex on a dirt road. I was not speeding and I was wearing my seatbelt. I chose a different route from my normal route and missed the S curve in the road. My car went to the ditch roughly 3 feet deep on the drivers side, hitting the driviers front, rolling the car one time, landing on the wheels and I put the brakes on, put the car in park and turned off the car.

I then got out of the passenger side of the car because the driver side was smashed completely down not allowing me to get out of the car or the window. I could not find my cell phone and went and looked into the field and found where my car rolled and found the phone with the glass from my window. I then called 911 and waited for assistance.

I was transportated to Sidney, Ne where after a catscan they found that I had a broken neck in 2 places C6 and C7. They then transferred me by ambulance to Fort Collins, Colorado where I had surgery to fuse the broken vertebreas. I am now out of work and out of a vehichle for now until I am healed.

I called Honda worried that NONE of the airbags went off, one of the reasons I bought this car was because of the safety rating because I wanted my family to be safe in any event of an accident. Honda after I called them back 2 times finially told me that (Case# N012007-11-2900916) Honda does not design their airbags to go off in the event of a rollover. Funny how when I did my research 1 out of 4 people are killed in a rollover. Why wouldn't that be a safety concern?? So needless to say there is nothing done to fix the situation.

I was in a serious car accident ('01 Honda Civic) and my airbags did not deploy. I believe it's a miracle that I survived this accident. A car cut in front of me, I swerved to avoid hitting him-causing my car to go into the center freeway divider-then my car rolled 3-4 times be4 coming to a rest. I kept my car and servicings up to date-no warning to indicate any airbag problem! I feel the airbags should have deployed since my freeway speed was 60-65.

On Friday 10/05/07 my 2 children and I was involved in a 5 car pile up. We were on Hwy 75 going home when the two cars in front stopped because of road construction. While coming to a stop the car behind me hit me at 65-70 mph slamming me into car in front. Then car behind him hit him. I was pushed into steering wheel. Were I have chest and neck pain with head aches. My 13 year old son was in passanger seat. Which thank the lord he was not hurt.

When was taken to hospital they asked if air bags where deployed. Stated no.

Even State troopers could not understand why they did not deploy. Several days letter went to see car. Was totalled. Front end of car is pushed all the way back to wind shield. Have talked to several honda dealers and they stated that air bags should have deployed. Called Honda and talked to customer svc rep who could not explain to me why air bags did not deploy. Adv me to contact insurance. Very upset due to reason purchased car was for safety. Am not done with this cause. I feel like I have been lied to when you walk into honda dealership and they have banners stating safety first.

A few months back, my wife was driving her 2007 Honda Civic Ex in front of me as we were pulling into a restaurant to grab some lunch. She nicked the curb with the front right tire going approximately 5mph which caused the left side curtain bag to deploy as well as the driver seat air bag. These air bags should not have deployed at a speed of 5mph and having no damage done to the vehicle. Honda corporation wont fix it, the dealership the car was purchased from wont fix it. So who will??

My 17 year old son was involved in an auto accident that nearly took his life. the airbags did not deploy on the sides and my son suffered traumatic brain injuries on all parts of his brain, collapsed lung, laserated liver and then needed a blood transfusion b/c he had lost so much 010707. No one has paid a dime, not the insurance or any of the defendants that I have filed claims against that could have prevented all this I need a lawyer for the faulty airbags, and someone that can help me to get what my son deserves b/c he will suffer now for the rest of his life due to negliagence.

My daughter has a 2006 Honda Civic, my daughter and her boyfriend got in her car, she started it, put it in reverse, had her foot on the brake while her boyfriend was talking to his brother, his brother closed the passenger side door and the airbags went off. Honda first said the airbags went off because the door was shut too hard, then they said it was an immaculate deployment and they don't know why they went off, either way, they are not covering it!!

We were in a car reck Saturday night. We were hit from behind. We were stopped at a red light when a mini copper hit us going pretty fast. The dirver was 17 and did not have on his glasses, he was alone in the car. When the police came his mom who had arived stated that he had his contact in. The doy did not even get a ticket because the airbags did not pop. The Van was moved and the air bags did not pop. I was in the car with My husband driving and our 4 children. When I ask Honda why didn't the airbags pop they stated you were not hit right, the engine mount was broken, the metal in the rear bumper is sticking out and the electrical system was missed up. It should not matter were you are hit the air bags should have opened and the reason why is bogis.

2001 Honda Civic air bag light. Car in accident, no deployment of driver's air bag, but deployment of passenger. Try to repair, replace driver's air bag, but the SRS light stays on. Honda Diagnostics no help.

An impaired wrong way driver travelling at 65 mph hit my 2007 Honda Element SC head on as I was travelling at approximately 35 miles per hour, causing sevre injuries t me which require Neurosurgery and extensive rehabilitation. This is a combined speed of 100mph head-on! I was wearing my seatbelts but no airbags went off. I have been unable to find an experienced airbag attorney and Honda Corporation does not respond to my calls. Can anyone out therre advise me of how to be successful in contactinmg an experienced airbag attornery to take this over for me, or for me to find an independent examiner to review my vehicle before it leaves the storage lot?

I got into head on collision last night in my 2002 accord ex coupe. The car had extensive damage My face hit the steering wheel pretty hard bruising my cheek and to my surprise my airbags didnt deploy. I need to get a number for HONDA and see what the deal was. I purchased my car new from Norm Reeves Honda in Cerritos,CA in 2002 and I don't understand why they didnt deploy, does this happen all the time?

4-10-07 my wife was in a accident and the air bag did not pop out!

Front and rear were smached in .

On Feb.7, 2007, my son was involved in an accident while driving a 2003 Honda Element. During a heavy snow, he changed lanes and hit the car in front of him while driving approximately 45 miles per hour.

The airbags did not deploy.

My son sustained trauma to the chest and cuts to his head. Thankfully, his injuries were not worse, though he did require a two-day hospital stay. The insurance company advised us that the car was totaled. We do not understand why the air bags did not deploy. We contacted Honda and they sent out an independent investigator, Mr. Fred Schroeder, who is paid by Honda and other car dealers.

He stated, it was a classic submarining impact caused by breaking prior to impact. When we questioned this response, Mr. Schroeder indicated that the airbags failed to deploy because the Elementâ's bumper was higher than the car that was hit, implying that the airbags would only deploy during a collision with an automobile of equal or greater height. This makes absolutely no sense to me. According to the 2003 OWNER' MANUAL for airbags, for the ELEMENT, page 5, off your car collides head-on with a solid barrier at 30 mph, it will come to a stop almost instantly.

Since you and any passengers you are carrying are moving as fast as the car, you will continue forward at 30 mph until you are stopped by something. If you are not stopped by a seat belt or an airbag, you will strike the interior of the car with a force equivalent to falling out of a third-story window and landing face-first on pavement. However, if you are wearing a seat belt and your front airbag deploys, the belt will restrain you and reduce the chance of injury, and the airbag will provide additional protection for your head and chest. Also page 7 states, When a car with front airbags is in a frontal collision, sensors detect the crash and measure its severity. It he sensors detect a rate of deceleration that is high enough to cause life-threatening injuries, they signal the control unit to instantly inflate the airbags. While your seat belt helps restrain your torso and slow down your forward movement, the airbags supplements your seat belt in two ways: It helps further restrain your upper body and slow you down, and it provides a cushion between your head and chest and interior vehicle parts. If the above does not apply, the public needs to be made aware of this fact. The car industry, the car dealers, and the car salesmen have a responsibility to inform the consumers of these facts.

The auto makers are not telling the consumer that airbags will deploy only when you hit a car, ât a certain manner or height?. What can we do to make the public aware of the misinformation or lack of information given to us by the car industry regarding airbags? Pictures of the automobile, (after accident), are available upon request.

We drove a 98 Honda Accord. We were in a car accident where we collided and severely damaged the front end. Our vehicle was totaled. Our air bags didn’t go off. Our insurance guy who looked at the car said that our airbags were technically working and was also surprised they didn't go off.

I had an accident on the 29th Oct this year. I was driving on the highway when the traffic infront of me slowed down and i slowed down when the guy coming from behind rear ended me with a severe high impact causing me to rear end the car infront of me (causing entensive damage to thr front), and that car infront of another. Was a 4 car accident. I was the only one who was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed by minor head injury and neck strain. I still have head ache, neck pain and feel nausea, body is sore. The car is a total loss concluded by my insurance company. The front is all smashed and the air bags did not deploy. When they are suppose to deploy? It was my luck that i survived. My seat belt kept me in place otherwise i could be thrown out of the car.

I had experienced a recurring crack on the air bag cover. I have taken it to the Honda dealer every week thus far for the last 1 1/2 months. The crack has appeared while they had the car as well. No one knows why this is happening, including American Honda mechanics. Therefore, they can only keep replacing the horn. I have reported this issue as a lemon since there has been no similar reports so they say) and it is a safety issue since I have had the SRS light (airbags) go on during the time the crack has appeared. In addition to vehicle problems, I have also had problems with Honda Financial. I purchased my car 8/1/06 and sent in my first payment prior to the due date of 9/15/06. According to bank records, they received it 9/2/06. Around the beginning of October, during the time the 2nd payment was due, they sent me a payment notice stating they never received the Sept. payment. When they reviewed their records, they advised me the reason for the notice was because they were in the process of changing their accounts over and I was given a new account number. The customer service rep. stated she would switch the amount from the old account to the new account and the problem will be solved. Three weeks later, I received another phone call from Honda Finance stating my October payment had not been paid. Apparently, the issue was not resolved when they said it was! I was just so fraustrated with the combination of automobile problems and financial problems, I sold my vehicle and bought a Nissan.

I was driving down NW 54th in lincoln nebraska with my mothers 98' Honda Accord EX when an old guy in a silverado truck pulled out in front of me off a gravel road. Of course I hit him traveling @ approx. 55MPH. The collision was a dead stop. Both my drivers and passengers air bags deployed. Lukily I was the only one in the car. Afterwards, I had a sever burn on my left arm and some minor burns to my face and stomache. Hitting the other car at those kinds of speeds also resulted in brusing to my chest and a cut on my stomache. After the insurance company had finished their work, my mom bought a 05' Honda Accord EX to replace the one I had totaled. I'm still scared to death to drive one of her cars. Will the air bags hurt again? Will they fail me once? Twice? I am currently looking at replacing my current vehicle with a 04' Honda CRV. I personally love the car, but am really concerned with the safety issue.

My son went around a corner a bit too fast in his 1995 Honda Civic Si. When he hit the (abs) brakes, he went into a 4-wheel skid and crashed the front of the car into a telephone pole. Next: the airbags didn't deploy for the driver or passenger. No one was injured but the car is possibly totaled.

I got a letter stating that Honda has extended their warranty on the OPDS system (controls the airbags). I have had my OPDS system checked twice and was told that the next time the OPDS light goes off I have to come in that the OPDS would have to be replaced.

When I called Honda to tell them that the light went off twice in the past week I was told that I couldn't get Honda to cover the cost because the light was not currently on.

The light had to be on when I brought it in to Honda. I have a 2002 Honda Accord. I tried to talk to Honda about replacing the unit asap because I drive back and forth from Mass. to CT. and I didn't want to be halfway through my drive and have the light go off, leaving me with no airbags.

I was told that when the OPDS light is on that the airbags will not deploy. This scares me because I am traveling a majority of the way on the Mass Pike and I-84.

What if I am driving and the light goes off and I get into an accident?

Honda will not replace this unit without the light being on when it clearly states in my car history at Bernardi Honda in Natick Mass that the OPDS unit needs to be replaced if the light comes on again.

I feel that Honda is going to keep pushing me off and not fix something that is highly unsafe.

I was in a single car accident in Ely, NV. My car was totalled and I had a broken neck resulting in an anterior fusion of C5-6-7. The driver side air bag didn't deploy but the passenger side did. I was off work for 3 months, I am still in Therapy.

While driving in Honda Accord I was hit by another car in the front right side. The passenger side airbag deployed but the drivers side did not. The car is totaled. Shouldn't both passenger and driver side airbags go off in front collision?

My wife was driving home from work in a snowstorm and slid off the road and hit a ditch head-on. I am happy she is OK but the airbag never deployed.

I was recently in an accident, where my front end was struck by and oncoming vehicle at a T. Her airbags deployed. Mine did not. My seat belt was the only thing keeping me in place. I suffered a bruised should from hitting my side window, and some whiplash. I am most concerned about the reliability of the airbag system.

My aunt was driving on the freeway when another driver cut her off. in an attempt to avoid an accident, she lost control of her 2003 Honda Accord. The car rolled several times. During that, her airbag did not deploy. she sustained major neck and spinal cord injuries.

I got into a car accident last Friday and the front of my car is completely totaled. The problem is: my airbag did NOT go off and it should have. The police questioned this as well. I'm pretty worried as to why an airbag would not deploy during a head on collision. So far, my neck and lower back hurts. My car will be in the shop for 3-4 weeks and I want to know how I can go about discussing this with Honda, as I am not content with the non-deployment of my airbag.

In what should have been a simple fender-bender where both parties drove away, my wife was injured by the deployment of her '97 Honda CR-V's airbag. This was very low-speed impact that caused minor damage to both cars involved. My wife suffered severe 2nd degree burns to both arms, in addition to bruises and abrasions to her face.

The airbag on my 6 month old Honda Pilot went for no reason. On 4/14/04, my wife was driving home from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, cruising at a speed of 65mph. Both the driver side and passenger side airbags went off for no reason, causing the vehicle to loss control which resulted injuries to the passengers and driver and damages to the vehicle. After the airbag got deployed, the security system went off continously, therefore the vehicle was unable to start.

Because the vehicle was damaged when I brought it in for my insurance company to do assest the damages, both my insurance company(Mercury) and Honda insist that the airbags were deployed after the accident. I've ask the insurance company to launch an investigation on the SRS system to retrieve any data may be used to determine what cause the airbag deployment. They came up empty because the 2004 Honda Pilot is not equipment to record data before and after the airbags have been deployed. As a result, I have to paid for my insurance deductibles, extra 4 days of car rental due to delays in the SRS airbag investigation.

I was in a car wreck two days ago in which i was hit by another car going about 40 mph. The airbags of my 2001 Honda Civic did not deploy. Personally when the bumper of your car is no longer attached I believe the airbags should have gone off. I luckily was not severely injured. I walked away with bruises. Now i would like to pursue a lawsuit but can not find a lawyer willing to take on the Honda corporation.

I owned a 2002 Honda Civic Sedan EX and was involved in a direct frontal collision with a woman who blacked out while driving. She was traveling at approximately 55 MPH. I was waiting to make a turn when I was hit directly in the front, totalling my Civic. No airbags deployed. Honda has been notified by both my attorney and by myself personally, but we only received another copy of the safety manual on these 5 star safety rated vehicles.

I had injuries to my left arm and hand, my chest, my lower abdomin, and a blow on my head. I had severe pain for several months and now have a 10% impairment in the use of my left hand.

On Saturday, August 30, 2003, my boyfriend and I were involved in a terrible car wreck that nearly took our lives. I was driving my 2003 Honda Accord on W.T. Harris Blvd in Charlotte, North Carolina about 6:30pm when something small like a possum ran into the road. My first instinct was to avoid from hitting it, sadly I ended up running off the road on to the grass median and hitting the ditch. The nose of my car went down into the ditch and caused my car to flip head over tail three times to oncoming traffic on Harris Blvd.

During the last flip, and now on the wrong side of the highway, while still in the air, a man driving a white Lincoln Navigator crashed into both my front and back passenger side doors. The Navigator carried my car a few feet and then when he was finally able to stop my car slid off his hood then spun around a few times and then the car jumped the guard rail. If the guard rail had not been there, we would have gone plunging down into the woods. The front tires were hanging on to the guard rail.

I am not sure what happen to the man in the Navigator, but I do know that his SUV was seriously totaled upon our impact and he had to be air lifted to the hospital. My boyfriend and I had to be cut out of the roof of my car and rushed to the Trauma Hospital. Believe it or not, none of my air bags deployed during this accident, NONE.

I was driving a brand new 2003 Honda Accord EX, only 10 months old, and none of my air bags deployed. Honda is rated as having some of the safest vehicles on the road, but my brand new car flipped over 3 times, was hit by a big Navigator in both my passenger side doors, in which the impact totaled his SUV, but none of my Honda air bags deployed. The injuries we suffered were a direct result of these air bags not deploying. (My doctor is willing to document that).

From my body not being stabilized by the front or curtain side air bags my knee hit the dash board and caused my leg to be pushed back which broke my pelvic bone at my hip. I now have a plate and seven screws in my hip. I suffer with a significant amount of pain daily that I am trying to learn how to control. My hip will never be or feel the same. Not only have I already started to develop arthritis in my hip but there is also a chance that I may need total hip replacement surgery in the next 8-10 months.

My boyfriend is pretty banged up and having many problems with his shoulders back and neck. His doctor has recommended that he have surgery to repair his shoulder problem and fix his pain problem. This surgery will put him out of work for 3 months. During my investigation with these airbags, I found in the new Honda’s, that if one of these air bags is activated and deploy, they will all deploy. This means that if the Honda flipping over 3 times was not enough to activate these air bags then definitely the Navigator colliding into both of my passenger side doors should have activated all of them.

Basically, we were told that we had no case. My previous attorney spoke with Joan B, a representative from Honda, who explained to him that if I wanted to file a claim against Honda I would have to go through my insurance company. The crazy thing about that is Honda went and picked up the car from the junk yard before they said this. Honda was being very cooperative with me until they picked up that car. Well unfortunately I am having a huge problem with my insurance company paying for my accident; therefore, that is not an option right now. I told him that I thought that is why people hire attorneys..

My 1997 Honda Accord SE hits a patch of ice and control is lost. The car hits a steel guardrail HEAD-ON at 40 MPH. It was a tremendous hit and I was sure the entire front end was damaged, possibly totalled. Guess what? NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. Everyone, including my insurance company was shocked at this.

I lost thousands of dollars over the course of the radiator event, and had to solve the problem myself. RE: the accident -- brusing across my upper body from the shoulder belt, lost time at work from pain -- due to no airbag deployment. Why?

My 1994 Honda Accord slipped on black ice and subsequently hit two parked cars (and two separate carport supports also). The speed was approximately 30 km/hr. Both front airbags deployed but only partially. They were ineffective as they just came out of their container only and did not even reach the driver, never mind protect him.

In this case nobody, including the driver, was injured. Had this been a high speed accident, having airbags that only deploy partially would negate the reason for having any airbags at all.

On August 27, 2003, Wednesday afternoon, I was driving my 1995 Honda Accord Wagon and was at a full stop on a freeway exit ramp in Sacramento, CA when a Ford F-250 pick-up truck (going about 50-60 mph) rear-ended me causing my car to hit the car in front of me that also caused it to hit another car in front of it. My car was considered totaled and my airbags did not even deploy. Fortunately, my passenger and I had our seatbelts on.

Aside from a whiplash injury, my passenger had a shoulder dislocation from the impact and I had a toe fracture. At the time of the accident, my passenger and I did not have any insurance coverage due to unemployment. Medical treatment had to be sought for these injuries and are being paid out of pocket until the person at fault's insurance starts paying.

This mornilng my wife was driving to work on the freeway. She was going about 65 mph. The road was clear with no litter. Her side airbag went off with no known reason. It caused her seatbealt to leave a long bruise on her neck. Her left arm was burnt and scratched. She pulled to the side of the road thinking she had hit another car or something due to the loud noise when the bag deployed but when no one else stopped and she had stopped crying, she got out and found no scratch on the car, nothing in the road which she may have hit even though she felt no impact etc. It just went off. Now she does not want to drive the car so I had to drive to her work and trade cars with her.

Seat and roof were torn when bags deployed on drivers side of car both front and back. Wife was traumatized and has abrasions on her left arm and neck with brusing and burn looking rash.

I had a wreck in my 1992 Honda Accord an the air bag did not work. I hit the windshield even though I had my seat belt on.

I was involved in an accident where my 2002 Civic Sedan LX rear ended another vehicle at approximately 35-40 mph. My airbags did not deploy and the seatbelt slammed into me causing bruising and current chest pain. I called Honda to ask them to do an airbag investigation on my car and they stated that they don't do that. My insurance company is insisting that Honda has to do it due to product liability, but Honda keeps denying that that is not their place to do that.
