Sharon of Bradford PA (4/24/04):
I ordered Carfax Unlimited Vehicle History Reports for 30 days but because they said I used it too much they put my account on hold. What does unlimited mean? I would like to do my own research, not take the dealer's word. I didn't get what I paid for -- it's false advertising. I checked numerous vehicles because I am searching the websites for cars, if I find something I am interested in I want to check it. The car is for my daughter and I would like it to be a decent one. The bottom line is it says unlimited and I didn't get that!

Dennis of West Seneca NY (11/7/03):
I was charged $24.99 for 30 day use of searches by Carfax. After the first day I could not use the service again.I cannot get a refund from them. They make it very difficult to even try.

Ji of Bridgeport CT (8/1/03):
I purchased the 30-day unlimited car history reports service from Carfax.com; that is to say, within 30 days from the day of purchase, I can run as many reports as I want provided I don't use the reports for commercial use. But the fact is, after I ran about only 70 reports. they placed my account on hold due to "unusual high volume of activities". I promise I never used the reports for commercial purpose. All what I did is watch the cars on ebay.com and check all the history reports for those cars I might bid.

They should stop using the word "unlimited" in there ads if they can't provide such service.

Alicia of Attleboro MA (7/27/03):
I paid $19.95 for "unlimited" Carfax reports because I desperately need to replace my car. I am running a lot of reports because I'm searching for exactly the right car at a price I can afford. After running about 40 reports Carfax halted my account access to answer a survey which I dutifully complied with. HOWEVER, today, on a Sunday morning as I was preparing a car-hunting list, Carfax PUT A HOLD ON MY PAID ACCOUNT for "excessive use!" Further, their instructions for contacting Carfax to reinstate my account were not valid, and further yet, they have no customer services available until Monday morning! My account is fully paid through August 11 and today is July 27.

How do they get away with this fraudulent behavior? All their advertising promises "UNLIMITED" access but that is a patent lie. NOWHERE in their "welcome message" which acknowledges receipt of payment do they warn you about this!

I've lost my whole Sunday for car searching, and time is money. I can't resume searching for the cars I want to consider, until those fraudulent so-and-so's reinstate my PAID account. (I'm not interested in any rental cars or cars involved in accidents). I've lost a whole free day, and tomorrow it's back to work. So now, I'll just have to drive around today and look at all possible cars on my list, not knowing if they'll turn out to be good bets or not. That costs gas and wear and tear on the car I do have. It will also cost me time and money to file the necessary complaints with the Massachusetts Attorney General's office, with my credit card company, and with the Better Business Bureau.

Jeff of Springfield VA (2/25/03):
I am an intensive on-line computer user. Apparently because I don't fit their profile, CARFAX deactiviated my "unlimited" 30-day access to reports for consumers (non-commercial use). The advertised unlimited access is false. I purchased such an account, and because I was an atypical user: 1. Had the account suspended until I filled out an affidavit that I was not a commercial user. 2. Had the account permanently deactivated even though I had filled out their affidavit.

I am a private individual unaffiliated with ANY car industry activity at any level. I AM intensively searching for the correct used car. I have abided by EVERY ASPECT of the terms of use for the account. CARFAX sent an e-mail asking me questions about how and why I was using their service - questions that have nothing to do with the terms of use agreement. I have e-mailed CARFAX to get the account reactivated. It is not. I expect an advertised offer of unlimited non-commercial use to mean precisely that.
