OK, maybe it's not the world's most exciting car but the Buick is a stylish, safe, reliable family car, right?

Buick
Intake manifold
Peeling paint
Window motors
Variious vexations

Perhaps, but those we hear from are upset about such shortcomings as engine problems, peeling paint, faulty window motors and all kinds of other shortcomings you'd never expect to find.

My car is a 1996 Buick Regal GS..the recall was for 1997-?. there was something on CNN about the recall on the 1997-?. (I missed the program, my daughter-n-law called me this morning to tell me about it.) After going on line I saw this report to fill out and was hoping to be contacted about my vehical that caught fire in Oct. 20007. I called a Buick company in Metairie, La. and they said they no longer have parts to fix the car (the fuel lines that burned). So I bought another part that I also needed that burned, now a year plus, I still can't find out how to get my car fixed. (on ss and can not afford a whopping repair bill and can't seem to get any answers). Please,if you can assist me in any way to get GM to fix my car I would appreciate it. Bet I am not the only owner of a 1996 Buick GS that had the fire problem.

fire damage to end of fuel lines. manifold burned, wires and a multitude of screws, etc. the cost of the manifold and gasket was over 300 and I do not know how much more it would cost to repair my only transportation.

Susan of Inman, SC April 14, 2009

Susan of Inman SC (04/14/09)
I owned a 1999 Buick Regal and had only one payment left on the vehicle. 2003 drove it to church, went inside, and the car caught fire. It burned everything in the engine compartment. Had to get a rental car and wait for insurance company to settle. Once paid by the insurance company, which was not enough to get another vehicle of equal quality, I had to add money to that to get another car. GM has just issued a recall for this very reason.

I find it absurd that a parked vehicle caught fire and no one (Insurance, GM) saw the need to investigate. With only one payment left, I more than paid for this vehicle, not to mention taxes and insurance costs only to lose it with very little compensation. I'm sure it has been too long to do anything about this now, but wanted to at least voice my complaint.

Having to replace the vehicle was totally unplanned (obviously, I was one payment away from owning it!) Not to mention the high taxes and insurance. Insurance company only allowed a rental car for a limited time, therefore I had to quickly find a vehicle within my budget which forced me into selecting a vehicle without time to thoroughly shop for the best deal. This created a hardship because I had not planned on these added costs at that time. Not to mention the time of shopping, locating and purchasing the vehicle.

I just found out about the GM gaskets being faulty. I have a 2001 Buick Regal 3.8L. that I purchased in January 09. The SES light was on. I took it to the shop where I work. The mechanic ran the OBDC tool and it came back with a cat converter code. He told me several things could cause the converter to go bad. The guy I got the car from is the original owner had all service records and I've known him over 10 years. The cat converter was replaced a year ago. Its bad again.

The water pump went out a month after I got it. I replaced it. I noticed a thick black grease in the neck of radiator, the oil cap and coolant level sensor. Flushing it for 45 min made no difference. The coolant kept leaking (about a gallon a week). I checked the oil twice a week to make sure it wasn't milky indicating a blown head gasket. No coolant leak under the engine, no radiator leak and there were no leaking hoses.

The water had to be going somewhere. The only other place I could think of is the exhaust. So, I checked it out last week and what do ya know! Antifreeze dripping out of a small crack in the muffler. When I added water to the radiator that day, for the first time the coolant was full of bubbles like someone blowing in it through a straw.

I found out that the antifreeze going through the catalytic converter will cause it to go bad and throw out that code. The lower intake gasket will cause the water pump to go bad and when the coolant continues to leak with the bad coolant sensor unable to detect the coolant level, the car overheats and cracks the head which will cause bubbles in the radiator. My friend who sold it to me said he'd never gotten any notification of a class action suit. He's lived in his house for 20 years. Isn't there something that can be done when people were unaware of such a lawsuit?

If the gaskets and/or dexcool were ruled at fault, it seems to me that those people who didn't opt out of the settlement should still be entitled to something no matter when the damage occurs. Either their product was faulty or it wasn't. Isn't there a statute of limitations that applies? Is there a way we can file another class action lawsuit? It took me 3 months to get him the 1500 he wanted for it. I don't know how long it will be before I can come up with the money for this. Should've known better than to buy a Buick.

Bought my Buick Regal in 2001 with only 15,000 miles on it. Car was maintained regularly at the dealership only to have many major problems occur so much so that it was recently sold for scrap metal. Problems consisted of peeling paint (horrible), oil pan drip (never able to repair), two auto windows quit working (one was replaced because you cannot just buy the part but have to replace the whole auto window - one I just pulled up and left and was never able to use that window again), many expensive brake repairs on this car and the last thing was that the transmission exploded while driving in downtown (Charlotte) rush hour traffic.

Paid 1,000 for paint job (which also included repair of a few dents), the window repair along with the oil pan drip (and an oil change) cost 1,000, and the last big expense would have been for 4,200 to replace the transmission (could only use a rebuilt one - no longer make this year model transmission). All this happened within an 8 month period, and the car only had 89,000 miles on it. Could not afford to keep pouring money into this car (car dealership maintenance expense had been extremely high). Sold it for scrap metal and bought a Hyundai Santa Fe. NEVER will I buy a GM product again.

While driving the speedometer start to act up it increase when stop to 110 mph. hjours later it worked correctly. two weeks later it did the same, the next day it did the same. I had to replace the whole unit. It should not have done this in this short of time. (four yrs).

none, only mental depression.
