In my experience, they do not mail bills, even when you specifically ask them to. Then, when the bill does not arrive, they blame the post office and tell you to investigate it yourself. They also do not send email updates about bills. They overcharged me by $1,000 and only refunded the money once they realized it was a mistake, as if nothing happened.

When the power goes out because of a “broken” part they cannot even clearly name, they do not offer reimbursements. Do not move to Tampa if this is the kind of service you expect to deal with. This company makes billions in profits, yet customers are left dealing with billing issues, outages, poor communication, and no real accountability. How are they still allowed to operate like this?

    Updated review: April 23, 2026

UPDATE: The day after submitting this review, I did receive a duplicate statement. It was sent on April 17, with the address handwritten appearing to be of the same helpful representative that assisted me last June by personally printing out and mailing me a duplicate statement. I would have removed the original review if the system allowed; instead I was allowed to upgrade the rating from 1 star. My sincere thanks to that kind individual.

    Original Review: April 22, 2026

This does not concern the delivery of electric power, on which I have no issues, but the customer service, specifically, the difficulty of obtaining a duplicate paper statement. For the third time in over 33 years of being a TECO customer at the same address, I have not received a paper bill. I realize bills are available online, but I keep paper copies and have no printer. TECO's process of trying to obtain a duplicate requiring numerous requests is the reason for this review. The first occurrence, I called TECO and was told a duplicate would be mailed. I never received it.

The second occurrence, I completed the online customer service form, received an email from a customer service employee that the duplicate has been sent, waited the 5-7 days advised, and nothing. I submitted a second request with the same results. I submitted a third, and a fourth request at which point I was fortunate; someone intervened and took it upon herself to personally print out and send me the bill. Now for the third time, I am missing a bill, and the same thing again, a nice TECO email sent to me that the bill has been sent, and nothing. How many requests and being given false information will result this time? I feel that this company needs to address this matter in a more helpful manner. It should not be that difficult.

This is the worst electric company I’ve ever seen. The rate hikes and misc BS added to your bills will drive you crazy. They profited $188 million last quarter by robbing from consumers in the area with their constant yearly hikes in electric bills. How the Florida AG hasn’t looked into them already is a mystery.

I have lived at this address for three years and was charged a deposit of 163.00. I was just given notice I would need an additional 336.00 deposit on my account. I have already struggled to keep my monthly payments current the entire time living here. This charge will ultimately destabilize my household. I am going to lose my electric and heating services because of this outrageous charge that has come out of nowhere.

I called the company and was told to either make a automatic payment plan (which they are not able to give me an exact amount monthly payment because the bill will automatically generate monthly) or get this 336.00 charge added to my next electric bill. I’m told it’s approved by the commissioner but the commissioner does not know my income or what I can pay monthly. My pay has remained the same but everything is going up especially food. This current situation is going to put my family and I in the cold and jeopardize my apartment. I’ve asked them to move my payment date so it’s not coming in on the third in the same week as my rent but they can not do that. I’m so desperate and frustrated. This must be be illegal that this company can make up charges whenever they want.

After a small kitchen fire and the gas was turned off, I was in contact with Natasha who did a nice job, taking all my information and getting me the help I needed to turn my gas back on safely. A young technician came out. He was the nicest young man, very polite. I have nothing bad to say about TECO.

It seems they really don’t care about their customers. As of now they want to have my deposit at $533 when I’ve never had a bill that large. They have raised their prices and are charging for hurricane problems which aren’t the customer's fault. They have enough extra money they’re always making off the customers. As it stands the government doesn’t help which should be regulated this as it would end other scavengers in existence!

Horrible company. Egregiously high bills compared to FPL and other providers. Takes forever to get a response from someone. Definitely would not recommend this company. Also they'll shut off your service without even giving you a notice!

Teco is reliable than Duke. That's a 100% facts. I only had a few outages because of new construction or there was an accident on a telephone post. They do quim work to restore power. I give those facts a 5 stars. My only issue is teco is huge and for all existing homes and new I doubt they are at max capacity and the bills is a bit high. Let's say avg $400 per home $300min. All the way from Tampa to about central FL. That's a lot of $$$$ with bunch of zeros annually.

I love and hate teco because the amount of money they make they can't come up with programs investing in solar. Dedicated high pay customer they can offer their own solar programs to not only provide cheaper energy cost to customers and they can receive additional energy not used. Solar is the way of the future. If they can't provide I will seek alternative way to be off the grid. I'm sure there's others that feel the same and some that already did go off the grid. This might be wishful thinking but I think it's best business deal. Thanks for reading my review.

If I could put negative stars I would. This company constantly is making up ways to charge people more money. Then when you select the option to have them call you and not lose your place in line since their call hold time is 4 hours. I get a call back 6 hours later with a recording telling me to call back during business hours because they are closed and my representative has disconnected. There is constant power outages and somehow they try to make it seem normal to charge my husband and I over 500 a month for our 1200 sq ft trailer.

I called TECO at 4 AM to report an outage at my tenant's home and was given an estimated return of service by 7 AM the same morning. I suspected it was the underground feed line at fault, and assumed there was no way to repair it that quickly. For that matter, I found it difficult to believe they could even respond that soon. I returned to the home at 7 AM to check the status, and the service crew was there and had already dug up and repaired the underground feed lines! I was astonished with the quick response and timely repair. Absolutely outstanding! Thank you, TECO!

Teco not only overcharges and is making us pay for the hurricane damage last year, but they really do not care about their customers. I asked if I could pay half my balance today and the rest tomorrow and they could not and would work with me anyway and shut my power off. Even though it's 2,000 degrees outside and I have a baby. They really are heartless and all about money and finding any way to get more money out of us.

I am extremely dissatisfied with the service I received from your customer support team. Not only were they rude and unhelpful, but when I asked to speak with someone else, the representative abruptly hung up the phone. On top of the poor service, I’ve been charged incorrectly. You took payment twice: once from my card and once from the initial deposit I paid when I started the service. Then, when I decided to close my account, I was told I needed to pay an additional fee of $100—which I paid. However, when my deposit was finally returned two weeks later, I only received $50 back, meaning you effectively charged me twice. I would like a clear explanation of the charges and a refund for the incorrect or duplicate charges as soon as possible. If this is not resolved promptly, I will have no choice but to escalate the matter further

Teco is the worst!!! My bill is soooo high and it literally makes zero sense why, the guy came out to order a tech to check the meter and he did say he understands why I’m confused as well. The amount of watts they are charging me for doesn’t add up to how I am living whatsoever! I’m using almost as much people in my neighborhood who have pools and keep their AC 10* colder than mine! My ac is set to 77*, I’m hot in my house, no blinds open, new windows, new ac unit, it’s serviced twice a year actually as well to be safe, new appliances, I don’t turn on lights unless absolutely needed, don’t open blinds either and have energy saver blinds as well! I barely turn tv on and don’t use my oven but twice a week because I make enough for left overs. My water tank is propane so doing all this my bill should not be reading almost 1800 kwh and giving me a $353 bill! It’s absurd, and the customer service reps are rude as well!

Literally the worst electric company in the United States. I’ve traveled a lot and never have I had an electric company worse than TECO. Terribly run, bad customer service, and the power shuts off any chance it gets. Storms, random outages, you name it. On top of the power randomly shutting off every other day, the amount of time it takes TECO to actually fix the problem is the highest in the country. There has got to be a way to get this company eliminated. Their monopoly is not for the good of anyone in Tampa and I don’t know anyone who is happy with their services. Please find another way to ruin people’s lives TECO, we need our electricity company to be reliable.

Their customer service is very very horrible. They read a script, don't budge and make accusations that it's always the customer fault they are down. Monopoly and they don't care about anybody but their pockets and it makes life miserable when you hit hard times. The worst part is when you call in they do not allow or work with you because they are pain in the butt. They don't listen, they don't care all they worry about is money. They're greedy and need to be dealt with.

TECO does not care about financial hardship. Called numerous times. Employees do not care if you’re going through divorce. Be prepared to get soaked Teco. I am hopefully putting enough together to change this. I am going to go to the news and also do a podcast on teco's failure to customers. They have no empathy for you. All they do is want their money. They don’t care about your problems and their employees don’t care about your problems. I have evidence of this. Anybody that’s willing to listen. Prime TIme Plus Credit misleads customers. I had it installed in late 2024. They said the monthly rebate was $9.00 but starting January 2025 it would double. Got my first bill (covering Jan, 7 - Feb. 4) and guess what? Same amount. I called customer service and the agent explained that they should have never told me that. It was requested and is still being reviewed (as of Feb. 27). She said it probably will not happen so Pffft on the person that set up the appointment by telling me something they should not have. I have no faith in what TECO tells customers. I would not recommend TECO if customers had a choice of power. Misleading information is nothing more that misinformation which is nothing more than what politicians say. Big company, big lies and therein lies the problem. No wonder this country is going to hell, by being dragged down with lies and fake news.
