I just want to say that I just called Nicor today to set up a payment plan and the customer service rep that I spoke to was amazing. Her name is Jenna and I just want Nicor to be aware that she goes above and beyond and was the nicest rep I've ever had the pleasure to speak with. She deserves recognition for being so patient and understanding and helpful. I've never spoke to a rep that was so kind and willing to sit and listen to my hardships. She deserves a raise, a vacation and just good things.

Today Nicor did a great job of resolving this. Per neighbor experience and other reviews I didn't expect it. But I contacted them, sent photos, and they went beyond the call to correct it and I'm more than satisfied. So I'm retracting my prior review.

Expect to clean up after them if they make a gas connection on your property. Factor in the cost of new sod. Much worse than ComEd wrt landscape. In my case the connection is for a new home across the street, though I use them too for my home.

Someone other than me got a "collection" letter for NiCor Gas from Harris & Harris Ltd 111 West Jackson Boulevard Suite 400, Chicago, IL 60604 in my name "Kris". It said I owed "53.78 but what not sure as I have not had NiCor gas for several years. It should not be legal for these entities to approach or send letters UNLESS they provide exact details on what and when and what location (address) the service was provided to. This give citizens and consumers the runaround, is both discriminatory to low income and races and the ill or bankrupt as well as shady and unethical business practice. Has data at NiCor and its "third parties" and "partners" been breached and brokered or shared and mined by this 3rd parties? I do not owe this and is traumatizing and just bad civil and consumer privacy practice and terrible/exploitive system/process.

I was out of work for Covid and was able to work out a payment plan with Nicor. After months of paying faithfully, one of the payments didn’t process and they shut me off. I called to make the payment and they said the only way they will turn it back on is if I pay them the full bill (a lot more than most people can just drop on a dime). I told them I have paying on time regularly and if they could just cut me a break this once because I didn’t realize it didn’t process and it was a flat out no. Not only did I have to max out a credit card, they told me someone would be out there to turn it back on in FIVE DAYS! The days are ok, but the nights are still freezing. All this over one missed payment after being a faithful customer for years!

We have an account in good standing, bills paid in full, on time every month. We were notified that they needed to do a meter exchange and then let them enter the house to relight pilot lights by 4/28/23. On 4/10/23 they changed the meter out and shut off our gas while we were at work. No appointment, no notification. By the time we got home and saw the tag on our front door, their offices were closed.

We had 18 calendar days, or 14 business days, to finalize arrangements and schedule an appointment where one of us could take off work and be home. We have children at home and had no hot water for showering or gas for cooking on 4/10 and 4/11. This is UNACCEPTABLE and has caused a major disruption for both our home and my employer who had to scramble to find coverage this morning while I sit at home and wait for a technician. They advised 2-4 hours and I am currently still waiting at 3 hours.

I asked for a call when they were on their way, as I could be home within 10 minutes of receiving the call (I work 1 mile from home in a suburb of Chicago) and they advised that if the tech happened to be close to our home and got there before I did, they would leave and this would start all over again. I understand that they cannot wait around endlessly for homeowners to arrive, but considering my 10 minute time window from call to arrival AND WHY I would need to do this, this is ridiculous. So I am waiting at home instead.

I do not give negative reviews, ever, so this is first for me. I am FURIOUS about this situation. As far as I can see, this in direct violation of the regulations for utility companies in IL as well. Our account is in good standing, and the deadline GIVEN BY NICOR was ignored. I have filed complaints directly with NICOR and with the ICC.

I received a notification that my bill was due. I paid it. The amount was not correct. They then auto paid it again for the same incorrect amount and I had a credit of the 2 amounts added together. They will not refund my money for 10 days. I asked them why they auto paid the amount and they said it was an auto deduction. I said that according to them I really did not owe anything so why did they take any money out. I received no valid answer just a run around. I am waiting for my money to be returned to me.

Their taxes are the higher in the business, their gas is the expensive, and their customer service is the worst in the United States! To speak with their customer support is almost impossible! They don't send any emails to their clients with any useful information as well! I don't recommend their service to no one else.

I Just recently purchased a house in Fox River Grove. I connected the service in September. The repairs in the house are NOT complete, so nobody lives there, nobody cooks, nobody dries clothes and the temperature inside is set to 63 degrees. My bill for November was $140 (my parents who live 4 blocks away and have house twice my size had bill about half of that). My bill for December was $190. My parents bill for December was $102. Their house is not only twice the size of mine, but they also have 10 foot ceilings. We are both with Nicor.

My call to Nicor was futile. They told me about price of unit, and yet, they could not explain why the use of the gas jumped by a factor of 10 in one month. No matter how much I tell them that NOBODY lives there, NOBODY cooks, and the t-re is set to 64F, they don't listen. They refuse to send the tech to see if I have external leaks or to see if anyone else connected to my pipeline (seen that happen when lived in Chicago), I was told "if you do not like it, you can leave our service after you pay us". STAY AWAY. THEY ARE CROOKS AND THIEVES who DO NOT CARE about you and won't lift a finger to help you figure out any problems. "You don't have a smell of gas in the house - then there is no leak, our system shows that". That's the only response I got from them. STAY AWAY.

They claimed more than 200 reading difference accumulated from the winter season, but they charged this 200 reading difference at 1.11. Nicor replaced our gas meter in December of 2017. Their crew asked if they could place the new meter at a new location on our home and stated they would remove all the hardware at the site of the old meter. I said OK. I assume this new location meant less work for them. After removing the old meter they left a steel pipe sticking straight up out of my concrete patio that was connected to nothing. They said they would come back later and remove that section of piping and fill in the hole in the patio. They still haven't removed that pipe as of October 16th, 2020. Whether it be a phone call or the occasional worker that comes to our house, I get a different story every time and no one ever does anything.

Recently one service provider came and said he didn't have the right tools but I could go ahead and do it myself. I said I wasn't comfortable doing it myself and wanted Nicor to complete the job they agreed to do. Approximately a week later someone else came out, this person said there could be contaminated water in this pipe and they did not have the right tools. If that was the case, why did the last serviceman tell me to remove it myself? Also why do none of the technicians have the tools needed to do this job? I'm not sure why Nicor has no interest in removing this safety hazard which someone could trip on and seriously injure themselves on if they were to fall on in.

I called for repairs to my hot water heater thinking it was not working despite it being only 11 months old never thinking my gas may have been shut off! I was pissed! After getting a person's name that could solve this problem I left him a voicemail, that was three days ago and still no response. This is new construction so we have been waiting to run the water service to the house due to no heat in the house. In my thirty years in business I have never had such an issue with any of my vendors or customers. Nicor Gas needs to be seriously regulated. For years we have had to put up with Nicor on our credit reports reporting negatively against our credit and also giving us unethical high gas bills whether you rented or owned a home and no one seems to care. While the ceo's of nicor live a lavish life price gouging on the consumers. They send out extremely high gas bills with weeks to pay and if not paid boom you're hit with a disconnection notice and even some reason you are not allowed to enter into a payment agreement and if you're successful at getting one it is their choice how much you pay with adding the new high bill to the bill. Complete cash cow business. While the customers sit and ponder on how to pay this Nicor expense, again you're disconnected and once you do pay it, you're punished with the wait game!!! 5 days or more, nevertheless you have small children or elderly parents living with you.

Nicor excuse is we have to light the pilots and make sure the gas is on. Well for the first time nicor disconnected me they Nicor bandit spent all of 10 seconds pushing a button and leaving. There is absolutely no reason why it takes that long to reconnect the gas once the unethical bill has been paid. NICOR I don't know how your ceo's sleep at night knowing fully well what you are doing. But there is a a point that your unethical behavior will stop and stop taking advantage of consumers. You are the only Gas company that most have no other choice to deal with and you take full advantage of that and you have no issues with it. All I can say is shame on you, when will your pockets be full enough to satisfy your wealthy habits??? Lord help us.

Nicor tells me they need to do a safety check on the gas equipment in my rented apartment in my building. They tell me this via a disconnection notice. Instead of calling me, I have to call them. Okay. fine - I call in to schedule an appointment. Don't try to use their phone system - it's broken. If you try to enter your zip code to authenticate for a service appointment, you get booted back to the main menu. Just mash the "0" button - ignoring prompts - until you get put on hold for 30 minutes. IF they pick up, you can schedule the appointment that THEY requested in the first place. If you fail to schedule, they will disconnect you. Once the appointment is scheduled, they blow off the appointment completely. My property manager had to leave - he couldn't spend all day waiting for the guy to show. It was already 30 minutes outside the already generous 4 hour window by the time my manager gave up.

I schedule again. Same thing, except this time I have the keys to the gas meters so I can be the one to miss an entire day of work waiting for this guy to show up. I just called customer service to find out they changed my 4 hour appointment window to an all-day appointment window without telling me. Go figure. I sure hope someone eventually shows up today. Please understand - there are no other options. We are STUCK with Nicor. They know this, and they abuse us with it. I hate that my favorite city is stuck in such a cesspool of corruption and abuse. I hate that we all pay the price.

Go check out the BBB page for this company. They somehow paid for an A+ rating even though every review is one star. Corrupt ** company has me and my ability to go to work by the balls, all so they can hire fewer service techs. I'm sure the service techs would agree with me. People in Chicago get their gas shut off by Nicor during the winter every year, which is illegal. Makes me wonder who profits from all of this.

I just got off the phone with a Nicor representative. Our conversation concerned my billing. My charge for this month is $23.04. I explained the only gas appliance left in my home is a small gas fireplace with the pilot light left on. As we went through my bill, we discovered the charge for actual natural gas used last month was $2.88. She explained the additional $20.16 are permanent monthly charges I have to pay regardless if I consume any gas or not. $16.38 a month charged for the meter, and the rest are taxes. I told the representative I was not pleased with this practice, and wanted to shut the gas service down for the summer. She said they could however, It would cost my more than $75 to turn it back on again for Winter use. This is a total rip off! Every appliance in my home is electric with the exception of that fireplace pilot light being on. How can Nicor get away with gouging customers in this way? Is there anyone I can go to to air my grievance?

Our services were disconnected for obvious reasons. Spoke with a customer representative and I agreed if there is a past due balance unpaid, of course services should be disconnected. The problem is, we were to believe to have been on auto payment program (as ALL OUR OTHER BILLS ARE SET THAT WAY) as well as paperless. Nicor Gas did NOT contact us by phone prior to disconnection (which is stated in their terms of procedure) and they also did not bring this to our attention for TWO YEARS. Their rep said we were lucky to have not been disconnected sooner. How is that lucky? We cannot afford to pay $1,800.00. Had they followed their own company policies and procedures, they would have been paid and my family would have gas.

I believe this to be fraudulent acts for the company to receive more money from consumers, seeing as more than half the bill is in late payments. The customer rep I spoke with named Julie, claims they sent statements and several disconnection notices (which were not received). She also agreed when I asked, that Nicor Gas Company can legally wait two years of nonpayment for services to be disconnected, when the bill reaches an unreasonable amount for a customer to pay. She also told me Nicor Gas will not be willing to work out payment arrangements to pay for this bill, that could have been avoided had they followed their own company procedures. We will be contacting a lawyer.

I moved into my new home in February of this year. I opened up an account with Nicor, which has been my 4th new account/address in 6 years. In August I suddenly receive a bill with my normal monthly amount plus a $455.90 amount they claim is from an old account from an address I shared with my ex-husband in 2008. The account was in his name, but they have been unsuccessful in getting payment from him, so they just now slapped the balance onto my account!! Again, I've opened 4 subsequent accounts since moving from that address with no issues or mention of this previous balance. This balance has never shown on my credit report or anything. So now because I still have his last name and they were unsuccessful in receiving payment from previously trying to tack the account balance to his mother's account, they have tacked it onto mine. His mother recently moved in with her boyfriend so no longer has an active account in her name.

This is the only reason I can think of why they suddenly added it to my account. If it was truly my balance, it would have shown with every account I opened since they use your social security number to open new service. I am on social security disability with a fixed income and 3 children. I have tried to speak with representatives who have all been extremely rude and not helpful at all! I am so fed up with this!
