Never again would I rent from these people. And would not advise anyone else. Came for a short stay at Hollywood/Burbank area on Friday afternoon only to have my prepaid/prebooked reservation cancelled. Why? Probably out of spite and xenophobia (my accent). Can't think of nothing else. After providing the contact number (the only one required per rental contract), they asked for second (?emergency) number. Did not explain how they were going to use it - "just to fill the form, we will not call." After I hesitantly provided another number, they proceeded to ask "who is going to answer?" I was not comfortable with this line of questions, so they refused service and cancel reservation. Just like that. Declined to call manager on duty, did not provide their names.

DISHONEST & SLEAZY! They told us CA required 2 levels of insurance, even though we said we have auto insurance. That cost $300. They also said we needed to pay for the Plate Pass in CA for tolls, especially if we were heading north because it would 'save' us money. We went through one toll leaving and one toll coming back. That cost us $100. If they train employees to rob the customers, I guess they succeeded. We don't get to take many trips where we fly and rent a car because of expense. We expect a legitimate business to be a little more honest. And if you see the 4.5 stars on their website, there are no reviews. Looks like they put it there to make it look like people had a good experience.

I unfortunately lost the key fob for my vehicle. We had 2 drivers and only (1) fob. I was flying out early the next morning. I was able to get a hold of customer service after midnight. They scheduled a tow from where I was staying back to the airport. Guy was friendly and helpful. I flew home and then this afternoon I get the bill… Mind you the rental car was $19/day+$139 for an additional driver (which I was supposed to get back). They charged me $336! Because I couldn’t fill the gas, they charged me another $116 for 9.5gal/gas!!! Then came the bill for the 25mi. tow and fob+programming=$610. Hint: *** A rental car company may charge anywhere from under $50 to over $600 for a lost key fob and reprogramming. NOW!!! Given the luxury of between $50/$600 what do ya think they charged me? The most they could!!! I cannot in “good conscience” recommend a company who takes advantage of someone’s misfortune! Lovers of $$.

BTW, I was in FL. The customer service guy at midnight was in OK. The car rental also has hours (airport). 5:30am-12:30am. Gee, hire a couple more people and ya could be open round the clock for people who fly in and out between midnight and 5:30am. Tried them once = DONE! FYI-I take full responsibility for losing the fob. Costly mistake! Wknd on the beach: AIRBNB $880. Rental Car: $945.26.

Awful. DO NOT USE FOX. They did not show up at the airport for nearly 45 mins to pick us up and take us to our car. They gave me a defective car that broke down. They would not help me when I was broken down on my way to the drop off/ airport. Customer service hung up on me repeatedly. They did nothing once I got there with the help of the state roadside assistance (no help from them). They charged me additional hidden fees and then charged me "service fee" of $40 more than a month after our business had completed. When I tried to get this resolved, I was hung up on, treated rudely, and transferred around. This company is shady and product/service was terrible. Stay away from Fox.

Do not rent a car from Fox Rentals. I rented a car at Sea-Tac Airport from Fox and it was a horrible experience. First, the representative at the counter stated I should not drive a Charger through the pass indicating it does not maneuver around corners. She stated she could get me into a small SUV for $123. Less! Ended up to be $123. In addition to what I already paid. The car was disgustingly filthy which I couldn't see initially due to the lack of light in the parking garage. It has black tar all over the sides of the car, was damaged on the right side and the inside had food between the seats, no floor mats and looked as if it had never been cleaned. I attempted to clean windows and inside but the dirt was engrained and wouldn't come off.

Going over the pass, the wheel would catch to the right going around corners and I didn't have any control to maneuver it. I returned it letting them know about the operating concerns and was told it was the tire, no discount was offered. This is the WORSE rental car company and you don't save any money. I will never use any place except Sixt (my favorite), Dollar or Enterprise. SO INCREDIBLY Disappointed!!! PLEASE Don't RENT FROM FOX.

DISHONEST! LIARS! CROOKS! If I could give negative 10 stars on this rating I would, bad enough I had to give 1 star just to post this as a warning to others. Stay FAR away from this company! I rented a car for a weekend trip to California in mid-September and upon arrival I was required to put down a $500 deposit simply because I do not own a credit card, and when I was asked if I wanted to prepay for gas (in the event that I might need it), I was informed by the person at the counter that any money not used for gas would be returned to me, only to find out that the return agent that checked my car in LIED about the fuel level of my car! I returned my car with a FULL TANK and the return agent listed it as empty! 😡

So now the company is trying to deny my full refund of the $500 deposit that I was promised would be returned AFTER the car was returned (minus any amount they might have had to use for refueling, which was NONE because it was returned FULL!!!). So if you want to deal with a company that has dishonest business practices, calls customers liars, employs thieves, and encourages dishonest business, then go ahead and use Fox. Otherwise, stay as far away from them as you can because they WILL steal your money!!!

I have rented from Fox at PBI Airport several times. Yes the rental is cheaper, but the sales staff is deceptive and two times I got poorly maintained cars. I also was lied to or possibly the staff is poorly trained, which cost my last rental to being quoted at 117 before fees and taxes to 445 after insurance was added without me knowing and prepaid gas, which they assured was a better deal. The fuel charge alone was 95 dollars on a 3/8 full tank. I had to return the car with no a/c and got a replacement with a horrible smell. I asked them to take the insurance and prepaid gas off for the replacement and was told customer service was the only way to do that. Customer service said I had to do it at the location I rented from. Absolutely the worst experience.

This was an option through Expedia and think they are in on the scam together! They tell you that (Fox Rental) is a non refundable / non changeable rental. Ok, but then your flight is overbooked and your airline changes your flight therefore changing your arrival time to the original destination. Catch is this; they tell you oh we can request a waiver/voucher for this rental, so you can be reimbursed, due to the airfare changing your flight (I guess this is an option when airline changes your flight on non refundable bookings.) To which they (Expedia) will obviously try to book you another car reflecting your new time of arrival. BUT really won't get you reimbursement.

Now I have paid for 2 car rentals for the same trip!! They are nickel and diming people as well as blatantly lying to their customers. They want you to "forget" they said they were going to reimburse you because it was beyond your control. Literally had a supervisor named "Jamity" say he would call me back to help with this. He needed to close the line he was transferred on and will call me right back from his direct extension. This is the 4th person this afternoon I have spoke to from Expedia! They are very much trying to pacify me so hopefully I give up. I am not! I used to think Expedia was legit and reputable, boy was wrong and will not be using them or Fox again. I will also share my experience with every traveler I know... Hopefully it will affect their bottom line once they stop scamming people!!

I was scammed with the information I received from the agent who gave me the car. Agent mentioned that I need the toll pass as California has so many tolls. I mentioned the route we would be taking and she said every toll is $15 and that we would be going over many. She said we would not see them but they have cameras. She said we would be crossing at least 2 a day. So I signed for a toll pass for $140 for the 10 days. I crossed 3 tolls and they were each $8. The manager and she said the agent should have not told me that. Well that doesn't help me. She said there was nothing she could do. (Besides all the hidden charges!) Come to find out they DID charge me to add my spouse because she was also under 25. We were also lied to about the route we needed to take so we never needed the plate pass. I rented a car from Fox Car Rental through Expedia. This was my first and will be my last car rental from this company. My flight was delayed, traveling to West Palm Beach, picked up the car from the airport. The representative that assisted me asked if I wanted a SunPass, I said no, I was just using the car to get to and from Port St Lucie. He proceeded to state if I pass a toll, the charge is $90 and there was no way around the charge. I stated I wasn't familiar with FL and that $90 for a toll charge was pretty steep.

He recommended I get the SunPass for $13/day and if I did not go through any tolls, I could have the charges removed. That was a total deception! I contacted Fox Rental and the representative I spoke with said they don't refund those charges back, even if I didn't use the Sunpass. I trusted the representative, I was tired and the flight was not pleasant, I just wanted to get to my destination... very sad that employees would use such tactics to get more money from people. What happened to honesty and good customer service to retain customers? VERY DECEITFUL. Will never recommend the company.

When I asked for a refund of the first charge, I was told there was a processing fee of $99 so I would not get back my full payment. I refused to pay that fee because it was never mentioned in any of my paperwork. They described it as payment for the service of arranging my rental. Then they offered to reduce it to $49. Long story short, my flight was delayed and I arrived 45 minutes later then contact cut off time for a no show, customer service stated I would need to reschedule a car, no big deal, I thought, so I rented another car at Fox. A few days later, I notice my card was charged 2x for the same rental. When I realized Fox had charged my credit card I reached out to them, they didn't even have the courtesy to respond. Expedia tried to intervene on my behalf, Fox declined to review. When the picked up the car the representative asked if I wanted damage insurance, I said no, she then asked me to initial the electronic screen. She then asked for a signature and credit card. I asked why she needed my CC I had already paid Expedia. She said airport taxes but didn't mention the damage insurance charge. I really would not have purchased a 3rd insurance coverage. San Antonio International Airport. Rental from August 26 through September 3rd 2025. I will never rent a vehicle from Fox Car Rental again. They advertise themselves as a discount company with great rates, but that is far from the truth. At the rental counter, you are hit with numerous hidden fees that quickly erase any so-called “savings.”

One of the biggest issues is their push for accident coverage. If you decline their coverage, you are penalized in other ways, which makes the experience frustrating and unfair. In the end, you actually come out better renting from companies like Hertz, Avis, or Thrifty. These companies offer upfront pricing with no hidden penalties for using third-party bookings, unlike Fox. Fox Car Rental is misleading, and you are not saving any money by choosing them. I strongly recommend avoiding this company and going with a more reputable rental service.

I had a rental booked with Fox for a flight from Houston to Las Vegas in Jan 2025 for a business conference. Houston experienced a once in a lifetime snowstorm that week, and the night before my flight left the city shut the airport down completely and canceled all flights. Something that hasnt happened before. Disappointed by missing the conference for sure, but everyone was easy to deal with, the hotels, the airlines, all quickly gave refunds as it was an OBVIOUS act of God and way beyond my control. Everything that is except Fox rental cars. They decided to dig their heels in on this $220 rental and 'pretend' that I canceled the rental for unknown reasons.

I submitted over 20 pieces of documentation, including news stories, and even a special custom letter that Southwest Airlines was kind enough to put together for me explaining how the decision to cancel the flights was not mine, but was in fact forced due to the closure of the airport. I dealt with their refunds department for almost 6 months giving them every opportunity to simply make the refund but this is a big deal to them and they really need the $220 I guess. Well I moved all of my rentals over to Enterprise and have had many good experiences since then.

I am paying more but I guess this is one of those cases where you get what you pay for, and apparently FOX is just crap. Oh well, I forgot about it. Then today Fox has the nerve to send me an email saying how they are surprised I haven't rented from them in awhile, what could have possibly gone wrong? and please take the time to leave reviews about our company.... so OK. When I rented the SUV on Cap1's site it immediately charged me $703. I noticed the return date was wrong when I was standing at the Fox counter. He said he couldn't change it because it was a prepay. The car that Fox gave us had several issues. The oil change light came on every time we started it. The rental guy cleared it and I thought he turned it off, but we had to clear it and another alert every time we turned the car on in order to see our speedometer. The backend of the car by the tire wheel was all broken down and anything we put in the back, including our suitcases rolled into the hole.

I did turn the car in a day early and Fox issued me a receipt for $603. Capital One says that I don't get the money back because it is on the fine print of FOX's contract that early return will not result in a credit. So I'm out the $100. BUYER BEWARE. I would never use those companies again or ever prepay for a rental car. I have rented 100's of times before but they never was charged in advance..

After the whole ordeal we were told by the manager that we would be charged $130.00 but now we find out that the deposit was not refunded and the total price was $289.00. Fox rental car was and is a horrible. The staff is so unfriendly.

I was very pleased by the quality service and quality vehicle I received from Fox Rent A Car at the Orlando, FL airport, this August, 2025. The vehicle was spotless and properly filled with gas. The shuttle to the off-site pickup location was timely (about every 30 minutes at one of a number of locations at the expansive airport.) And the driver was good at providing information as to the drop off procedure. The Apple CarPlay worked well with my preloaded Google Maps. The charges were better than Hertz, Avis, Enterprise and other airport based car rentals. When I dropped off the vehicle, I left my SunPass transponder in the vehicle. They called me before my flight and informed me they would send it to my home address within a few days. Within 6 days it was delivered via USPS. I intend on using Fox in the future and recommend them.

If I could rate this a 0 star I would. The service while renting the car was great, however everything else was a complete disaster. I made the booking through Expedia with the flight, at the Orlando, FL location. It did not have that they were not onsite, and had in very small font in the confirmation that a shuttle would need to pick us up and take us to the rental car location during "normal business hours", not mentioning what the normal business hours are. I started freaking out as it was after 12 AM. Then another person from my flight overheard and said he was getting a car from Fox also and there would be a shuttle. My fiancé was on the phone with Fox and they said a shuttle would be there no later than 12:29 AM. Well, 12:37 AM is when the shuttle got there. I was just happy to see them. Then, renting the car.

They charged me an additional $300 at the counter to just get the car after I had booked the car through the other site. Fine. Paid that and the gentleman behind the counter said to return the car to the garage when going to the airport for my flight. Awesome. Return day comes so I go to the airport, pull in the terminal to return the car and the attendant says he isn't sure what to do with the car so he would talk to his manager. So, I leave, get on my flight, and return home. A WEEK later, I receive an email that the car has not been returned to the location. I freaked out! Luckily I had taken pictures of it in the airport garage with a timestamp and location tagged. I sent that to Fox. I received an acknowledgement that they sent the pictures to the location and they would follow up. I received no updates so I emailed the person again. She stated they still have not found the car.

I called the customer service and they said they do not have trackers on the car. I find that hard to believe as it was a 2023 Mercedes and a rental car. But whatever so I started worrying I would be liable. Today I receive an email that they are sending a demand letter to me and that they would start the repossession process and notifying the Orlando police being charged with theft, and I would be added to the "do not rent" list. I call the Orlando police who gets me in contact with the airport police. They said it happens regularly with this company and it's probably in an impound lot. They checked and called me back within 30 mins that it was indeed in an impound lot and gave me the information.

Fox also emailed me after I provided them the information of where the vehicle was, told me I would be charged an addition $729 plus towing fees. Received the updated receipt/bill, $1995!! Why couldn't Fox have found where the vehicle was a week ago?! Worst experience of my life hands down. I will never ever rent from Fox again, nor recommend. Good luck to anyone who does.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Fox Car Rental. When I declined their insurance, they demanded to see proof of my personal insurance policies. I wasn’t prepared for that, so I had to spend 45 minutes retrieving the documents. While inconvenient, I accepted that part. However, they then charged me an additional fee simply for using my own insurance—which I reluctantly accepted. They also required a $1,000 hold on my credit card, which I complied with.

The real issue came when I was charged nearly double the amount of my original booking. When I pointed out the discrepancy, I was told the quoted price was in U.S. dollars—something that was not made clear during the booking process. At that point, I canceled the reservation, but the $1,000 hold is still pending. This experience feels deceptive and predatory. I urge you to review the many similar complaints found in consumeraffairs.com. It appears that this company is run by a number of alien thugs - they are a total scam. Keep yourself away from them.

This is a rip off with such a heavy charge. I was told at rental desk that FOX would help forward the toll bill to me and thought this would be part of the services. I can understand a one time service charge, say $15, for the toll fee collection but not by each. Luckily I did not pass the toll booth too often. This is a malpractice or at least lack of friendly pre-warning to customers. I have now seen numerous complaints on many review sites about this reckless behavior. She took the damage protection (her fault as she doesn't travel all the time like I do) which ended up being more per day than the rental. She was never told a price upfront. When I called them about it the woman I talked to was quite rude. At the end of the day the rental cost double (186.00 extra) than I thought I paid for. At the time of pickup, I was provided paperwork that clearly listed all existing dents and scratches. Upon return, no new damage was noted by staff, and I was not informed of any issues — everything appeared to be in order. Now, four months later, I’m being contacted and told I’m responsible for a cracked windshield that was never mentioned during the return process and absolutely did not exist when I returned the car. The idea that I would be held accountable for damage that could have occurred long after my rental period — with no timely documentation or evidence — is not only unreasonable, it’s deeply unethical.

I’ve asked them for photos and for the video feed of me entering the return area. The customer service agent was just a bully. This feels like a clear attempt to push unwarranted repair costs onto former customers. I’ve asked for photos and for the video feed of me entering the the returning area. Strongly urge anyone considering renting from this company to think twice. If you do rent, take thorough photos of the car (inside and out) at pickup and drop-off, and document everything in writing. As a customer who returned a car in the same condition it was rented, I should not be dealing with fabricated charges months down the line. Which wasn’t a big deal if it saved money. But here’s where the stress really began. The line was long and slow moving. Then the Fox company pressured me to get a $200+ insurance plan I didn’t need. They took a $365 deposit I wasn’t sure I’d get back. This caused unnecessary stress throughout my trip. I did get a full refund on my deposit, but it took several days. I felt terrible that other people were talked into up to $400+ unnecessary insurance plans. Truly criminal.

Now a month after my rental, I received a $106 fee for using tolls. I was stressed and careful throughout my trip to pay cash at every toll I could. But I think there may have been 2 tolls (less than $5) I could not pay cash for, hence the $100+ fee. If you don’t want to have your trip ruined with unnecessary car rental fees, do yourself a favor and pay a little extra for a car rental company that is not full of crooks.

For example, we reserved the car for noon, but our flight arrived early and things worked out that we got to the car rental in SEA about 1.5 hours early. It appears they have charged us $20 per hour for getting it early - so make sure to time everything correctly or you will be charged! There was no mention at pick up that they were going to charge us, we would have just waited to pick up the car. Hidden Charges #2 (and really quite mind blowing). We paid for the pay for fill up at $4.42 (in rental agreement), but because "we returned the car with more than a half tank" we were charged 9.96 per gallon. So it's better to return full or under half. Because it was only a couple gallons I guess they charge more.

This review is for The FOX Miami Airport (3275 NW 24th Street Rd, off-airport). I definitely do not recommend this place—especially the representative named **. His attitude changed as soon as I declined the insurance he tried to sell me. Without asking, he automatically added a $150 toll fee and expected me to pay it. When I questioned the charge, he started lying, claiming that everywhere in Florida has tolls and that if I didn’t prepay, I would be charged $15 each time I passed through one. When I refused, he got upset and kept threatening me with the possibility of even higher toll fees. After he completed all the paperwork, he handed it to me and kept saying, "Bye, go," while I was still reviewing the documents to make sure everything was correct. He continued repeating, "Bye, go, go," as if he was trying to rush me away from his counter.

Then, my family and I went out to the rental car lot to get the car. No one was there to assist us or conduct a pre-inspection. I saw a mechanic walking by and asked him about the inspection, since the vehicle had many scratches and visible damage. He said the inspection had already been done and the record was in their system, so I shouldn’t worry. I told him I would take pictures and videos of all the damage just in case. He said, “It’s up to you, but it will be useless.” I took the video anyway.

When I returned the vehicle at the Atlanta airport, the representative who checked the car asked for the pre-inspection sheet. I explained that no one had performed a pre-inspection when I picked up the vehicle. She pointed out that the car had several areas of damage and said that without the pre-inspection sheet, I would be held responsible for the damages. I showed her the video and all the pictures I had taken. She confirmed the date and time on the video and, after reviewing everything, she finally checked me out without holding me responsible for the damages.

I truly believe that either the representative ** or this company as a whole is trying to take advantage of customers. If I hadn’t taken that video, they would have made me pay for damages that were already there when I picked up the vehicle. This was the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had—the staff were unprofessional and unhelpful. I strongly urge everyone to stay away from this company and especially from this rental location.

As a courtesy, I called to extend the rental and they wanted to charge me $99.26 per day. It clearly states $70.59 for late return. I told them “don’t extend, we will bring it back late”. After calling several times, and finally getting a supervisor “Joan”, she tried to tell me there were more taxes on the $70.59. NOWHERE ON THIS CONTRACT DOES IT SAY THIS! She refused to credit me the $28.67. Honestly, that’s not going to break the bank, but it’s the principle. Clearly, transparency is not their forte. They are deceitful. Won’t be renting from them anytime soon.

Fox Rent A Car Miami Airport is dishonest and predatory. Upon vehicle return, they tried to charge a “damage” fee for having sand in car. We were in FLORIDA. They falsely claimed it would cost them $250 to have the car “professionally detailed” due to sand. The tech quoted $100 upon first inspection, then the manager tried to jack it up to $250. They were trying to get any money they could. Multiple charges are on my credit card now totaling $1100 for what was quoted as a $400 one week rental. I have an email confirming my 6pm drop off time which I confirmed with the agent in person. Upon return, looking at my agreement, the return time is typed as 5pm. The employees are dishonest, practices are predatory. The company is not a member of the Better Business Bureau. I am just now finding out. Take your business elsewhere to an honest, reputable company. These clowns average 1 star rating on all internet ratings sites.

We had a terrible experience with Fox Rent A Car. After taking a 5am flight and waiting over 40 minutes in line with only one employee working, we were exhausted and just wanted to get our car and go. We explicitly declined the insurance waiver, but the employee sneakily added it anyway. Despite clearly saying NO, they charged us for it. This is not only dishonest—it’s predatory, especially when customers are tired and being rushed through the process.

This is the second time this has happened when booking through Expedia. It’s becoming clear this may be a deliberate tactic. We’ll be disputing the charge, but others should be warned: check your receipt carefully before you leave, even if you’re exhausted. Shame on Fox for exploiting travelers like this. We expected better from both Fox and Expedia.

We arrived around 10pm and were told we owed $366 including a $200 fee since we are dropping off in Phoenix. I explained that was already part of the reservation ($562 was original paid amount). He just kept saying we had to pay the $200 drop off fee and we owed $366. Where’s the other $166 coming from, we asked?!? That’s just what we owe before we could take the car. Since it was so late and my family was exhausted, I really didn’t have a choice. We are currently fighting with Fox to get reimbursed. Additionally, the car was a DIRTY Durango. I’ve never picked up a car that was so dirty before… it was the cheapest model rental car- not the roomy full sized SUV I paid for.

We were driving to Boise, with a long stretch of open highway. We soon found that none of the hands-free features worked. We could pair our phone but could not make a call using the buttons. It showed the phone book, but you couldn't scroll to find the phone number. You could not change the volume on the radio. Even worse, the cruise control did not function. Thank goodness I could take care of the phone. We are senior citizens and cruise control would have been nice.

My husband tried to call the office, and ended up with roadside assistance. They tried to reboot the computer, which didn't work. They said that was unacceptable and they were taking the car out of service until it was fixed. When we returned the car, my husband told the person who took it about the problems. He went into the office to speak to the manager. She told him he should have checked these things before he took the car! Then the person who took the car said the service department said the cruise control worked and called my husband a liar. I would never use this company again!

I have been renting cars with Drivo/Fox rental cars since 2020. I don't expect special treatment, but as a loyal and pleasant customer, I have never damaged the vehicle or had an issue. They would show me a little respect, but this place is not even a credit with the Better Business Bureau. It's an LLC, and they're allowed to take your money, and the minute you have anything to say that disagrees with what their rules are they will band you from renting cars I have spent The last 5 years with this company, and I'm ashamed to say it maybe $60,000 or more, and you would think that they would give a little bit more respect.

They banned me for speaking up for myself.

I had an issue with one of their employees, he is passive-aggressive. he says comments like "you people." he is very racist, and I'm not going to stand for being targeted or abused verbally when I'm spending money. After I booked my second reservation in a row for the month of May, when I came to pick up my rental car, I was told I was banned after dropping my previous rental off and walking across the street to their new pick-up location. FYI, I have been renting cars with Drivo/Fox Rental Cars since 2020. While I don’t expect special treatment, I believe that as a loyal and respectful customer, I deserve a certain level of respect. I have never damaged a vehicle or had any issues during my time with them.

Unfortunately, I’ve found that the company does not hold a good standing with the Better Business Bureau and operates as an LLC. This allows them to take your money, but if you voice any concerns that contradict their rules, they will ban you from renting cars. Over the past five years, I have spent approximately $60,000 with this company, and it’s disheartening to feel that they do not appreciate my loyalty. I was banned for speaking up for myself after experiencing an issue with one of their employees, who exhibited passive-aggressive behavior and made comments such as "you people." This is blatantly racist, and I refuse to tolerate being targeted or verbally abused while spending my money.

After booking my second rental for the month of May, I arrived to pick up my car only to be informed that I was banned. This was right after dropping off my previous rental and walking across the street to their new pick-up location. It’s worth noting that the same employee who requested my ban had previously helped me book a new rental, fully aware that I would lose my money. I was there previously, and the same service person who requested me to be banned helped me book a new rental, knowing I would lose my money.

The manager, R, told me to contact the corporate office to resolve this. I have spoken to several people at their so-called corporate office and have been informed they will look into the matter and get back to me. It's been two weeks now. I will update my outcome and load images of my consecutive rental agreements from 2020 to 2025 as proof.

I recently rented a car from Fox Rent a Car at LAX Airport toward the end of 2024, and I had a very disappointing experience. Firstly, the shuttle took an hour and a half to arrive, despite us repeatedly calling the office. While we waited, every other rental car company’s shuttle came and went multiple times, but ours was nowhere to be found. Each time we called, they took our information, but the shuttle never came until much later. When we finally arrived, the agent convinced us to upgrade the car, even though we clearly stated that we did not want to pay anything extra. Despite our insistence, we later discovered that we were charged an additional $443.68 which covered a full payment for the car rental. This was completely unexpected, as we had already paid the full amount through Expedia.

The agent misled us into signing for something we did not ask for, which we believe was done deliberately. It became apparent that Fox uses the “sign here” tactic, where documents are signed on a tablet without clearly showing what is being agreed to. This practice is deceptive and unprofessional. After realizing the issue, I called Fox Rent a Car to dispute the charge. Unfortunately, the customer service representatives were unhelpful and kept repeating the same scripted responses without truly understanding or addressing my concerns. No resolution was offered, and it was clear that they were not willing to assist. I later found out that many other customers have faced similar issues with Fox Rent a Car. I regret not checking the reviews beforehand, as it would have saved me from this frustrating experience.

This experience was extremely disappointing and made worse by the agent’s dishonesty. It’s clear to us that Fox prioritizes additional charges over customer satisfaction. Due to this experience, we have decided never to rent from Fox again. We strongly advise other potential customers to be cautious when dealing with Fox Rent a Car, as their practices can lead to unexpected charges and significant inconvenience. Fox Rent a Car is undoubtedly the worst place to rent a vehicle, and we hope that sharing our experience will help others avoid similar issues. Attached are photos showing the condition of the car we received, clearly demonstrating that no upgrades were made. Despite this, we were unjustly charged extra.

I initially reserved a car through Expedia.com for a rental car at the Fort Myers Airport. I followed all the instructions for opting not to take their auto insurance because my Insurance Company verified I was fully covered & I printed all the documents needed as proof. Upon arrival & picking up the car, their person behind the Counter "Amy" said she's been there 20 years and never heard of no one not taking their insurance. She coerced me into taking their insurance. At that point I had no choice stranded at their rental site, made me sign a receipt for $317.73. While at my Resort, I used the computer to look up www.foxrentacar.com & on their own website it states that purchasing their insurance is "optional". I returned the car, spoke with the other counter person "Angel", she said there was nothing she could do for me, to call "Billing". Once I got home, I checked my credit card. I was charged by Expedia.com $135 which was what I was expecting to pay for the car rental. In addition I was charged $317.73 by "Fox rent a car". I called the billing dept. They refunded me $150 which means I still end up being charged $302!!!! They are thieves, this is not over!!! I am going to the florida better business bureau, the florida attorney general & the U.S. Attorney general complaint departments if this is not resolved immediately!!!! I wished I had read all the bad reviews before I booked my rental with Fox rent a car. I prepaid everything through priceline, when I checked in, the person at the desk charged me some deposits for preauthorization of the gas charge. When I was trying to ask how this worked she was very impatient and almost yelled at me that she had explained it already. Anyway, I got the car and started my vacation. When I returned, I filled up the gas tank at a nearby gas station (2 miles away) and then returned the car. I took a picture of the gas tank with indicator of full and the mileage and then returned the car (this is a couple minutes before the staff actually checked in the car and the gas tank clearly showed full).

A couple of days later, I got the refund of the deposit, surprising $56 was missing. I called and asked why. Customer service said I returned the gas tank with 1/8 of the tank missing. I emailed the picture of the gas tank and the mileage and the receipt from the gas station. It turned out that there is a 2-miles differences between my picture and their recording of the mileage. I asked about how the 2 miles can account for 1/8 of a tank and how can people returned the car with zero miles in between gas station and the rental car return location if there is no gas station right next to it, she couldn't answer my questions. Yet she kept saying according to their policy I didn't return the car in full tank because I drove two miles between gas station and their rental return. Because of this they can only refund me for 50% of the gas precharge. This is super frustrated and I still haven't received even that 50% of the refund yet.

In addition, the staff who worked there were rude, impatient and seemed not care at all. Besides the impatient lady when I checked out the car, the guy standing in the returning lot playing his phone even when he saw we drove in. We had over half a tank, but we're still charged full amount. When I signed in, I requested my drop off time be 5:30pm, instead of am, due to an error. The customer service rep was nice and suggested I turn the car in at 4:30, instead, because it was saving me approx $15.00 and there was an hour grace period.

We turned in our car before 4:30, and there were at least 6-8 cars parked in front of us. I even walked to the check out desk to ask what to do, and they told me to go back and someone would be with me soon. They stated I turned the car in at 4:59. I was already through TSA, checked my bags etc and waiting to board my plane by then. Regardless, they wouldn't waive the fee, and said it would be 48 hours to speak with a supervisor. Totally unacceptable. I would never use this company.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a recent car rental experience. I prepaid for my rental in full, but at no point during the payment process was I asked to confirm whether the credit card used for the booking belonged to me. Upon confirming the rental details, I was informed that I could not take possession of the car because the credit card was not in my name. I am very frustrated that this policy was not disclosed to me initially, especially during the booking process through Expedia. Additionally, I was told that a full refund would be granted if the reservation was canceled within the specified timeframe. However, I am now being informed that I am no longer eligible for a refund due to the reason for my cancellation (the credit card policy issue). This situation is unacceptable, and I plan to follow up on this matter. Potential customers should be aware of this policy discrepancy and the communication gap.

This is a total scam as the admin fees are nearly half the cost of my total rental. Be aware of this if you are in Denver, CO.

I am filing this complaint to report Fox Rent A Car for negligence, mishandling of a safety issue, unprofessional conduct, and attempting to bill me over $2,200 for damage I did not cause—despite my proactive efforts to report the issue while still in possession of the vehicle. ⸻ Initial Rental Experience – Oakland Location. I rented a vehicle from Fox’s Oakland location on April 7, 2025. My experience was negative from the start. A male staff member named Monte (**) was condescending and rude when I asked basic questions about the rental. He repeatedly brought up “arbitration” in a sarcastic and unhelpful tone.

When I got to the vehicle, it smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. I reported this immediately, and another male employee responded with a smug and dismissive comment: “You can’t deal with the cigarette smell? Is it really that bad?” After I insisted it was unacceptable, they swapped the vehicle, but the tone and lack of customer care were unacceptable. I later submitted a formal complaint about this interaction, and a staff member named Raymond has been respectfully following up regarding that issue. ⸻ Vehicle Safety Issue – Gas Leak Ignored. By the third day of the rental, I began to notice a strong gasoline smell. On the fourth day, I discovered that the vehicle was actively leaking fuel. I contacted Fox’s Roadside Assistance and spoke with a representative named Adam, who initially directed me to take the car to the Burbank airport for a swap.

Only 15 minutes later, Adam called me back and informed me that he had spoken with Madeline, the general manager, and that the “fleet was upside down” — meaning there were supposedly no available vehicles. He then relayed that Madeline believed I must have hit something and that the leak couldn’t be mechanical. I was told to contact my insurance and file a claim. Adam then insisted multiple times that I must return the vehicle with a full tank of gas—even though I had just informed him it was leaking fuel. I expressed concern about driving a car that was visibly leaking gas, but he had no solution and continued to repeat company policy rather than prioritize my safety.

He also instructed me to drive to Ontario Airport, which is in the opposite direction of where I live (Oakland). I refused, stating that I was closer to LAX, and after some pushback and another phone call, I was finally told I could bring the vehicle there instead. I went directly to LAX, never driving to Ontario. Fortunately, the LAX staff handled the swap professionally and did not give me any problems. However, the replacement vehicle began shaking every time I applied the brakes, raising continued concerns about the safety and maintenance of Fox’s fleet.

⸻ False Damage Claim and Mishandling. On April 24, 2025, I received a notice from Fox Rent A Car’s Damage Recovery Unit, claiming I owed $2,205.00 for a damaged fuel tank. The claim included a vague estimate and an unexplained $150 “administration fee” — but no evidence, no photos, no inspection report, and no acknowledgement of the fact that I had already reported a fuel leak while still driving the car. I strongly deny causing any damage.

I was never involved in an accident or incident that would cause a fuel tank rupture. I have since taken clear photographs of the undercarriage, which show no puncture, no dents, no impact damage, and only a faint, surface-level crack that appears consistent with normal wear or a manufacturer defect — not a collision. At no point did Fox provide a pre-rental inspection report showing the undercarriage was checked or cleared. If this crack existed prior to rental (as is likely), I would never have known because I was not advised to inspect the underside of the vehicle — nor is that a standard or reasonable expectation for a customer.

The gas tank had a leak and had leaked in the garage. The company refused to tow it since it was drivable which seemed entirely unsafe. I was forced to travel an additional 2 hours to return it out of my way plus gas and have to clean the garage I was staying at. I tried to get some discount or customer service and they refused only offering a measly 20% discount on future rental. This will amount to about $40 which didn’t even cover my gas cost, plus I will never be renting from them again, nor will I sign off on rentals for my company through them. It will cost them most more than that. Very disappointing…

My statement sent to FoxRentACar in support of my request to have the unauthorized surcharge removed. Request denied by the FoxRentACar Billing Department. On 12 February 2025, I reserved an auto from FoxRentACar online. On the same day, I charged both the auto rental ($647.66) and the security deposit ($150) to my Discover credit card.

On 18 March, I picked up the auto in Phoenix. Once I presented my paperwork to the agent, he suggested I get a larger vehicle. I responded that the auto I requested was sufficient for my wife, myself and our one piece of luggage. The conversation was difficult because the agent was wearing a mask and both my wife and I had trouble understanding him. The agent then asked where we were traveling. I told him we were visiting friends near Flagstaff. He strongly urged us to get an all-wheel drive vehicle owing to the snow.

I told him that we had checked online and that there was no snow on the ground where we were going, and that snow had not been forecasted. I also told him that I had already stipulated my auto preferences when I reserved the car, and that I had prepaid for the auto. He then urged me to get the post-drop off gas fill option, telling me that gas price was hovering around $6 per gallon in greater Phoenix, but was only about $3.50 if FoxRentACar filled it after I returned the auto to the lot. I declined the offer.

Finally, after 20 minutes or so, the agent started telling me about insurance. I told him that I have an excellent auto insurance policy that covers me completely when I rent a car for business or pleasure. He kept pressing me, and I told him I did not need the extra coverage. He continued talking about LDW, and I kept telling him I did not want the coverage. Finally, we were presented the invoice. It clearly shows the TOTAL ESTIMATED CHARGES of $797.86, which is the amount I prepaid. I initialed the contract based on this number. Thus, after I returned the vehicle on 30 March, I was shocked to discover that I had been charged a total of $1198.51, or $550.85 more than I had prepaid. I got online and noted that my charge card had been assessed another $400.85 by FoxRentACar, Phoenix. FoxRentACar also kept my security deposit of $150.

I have rented cars my entire life, but have never encountered such egregious behavior. My wife and I feel that the Fox agent was blatantly trying to take advantage of an elderly couple by mumbling behind his mask and trying to strong arm us into getting “upgrades” that we did not need or want. In examining the FoxRentACar invoice, I still find the section on the LDV very misleading.

He told us to pick any car a drive off. They had already been checked, so we didn’t have to. We climbed into 4 different vehicles until we found one that was clean enough to take. Clean enough, because it was still in need of the rear of the SUV needing vacuumed, the windshield was dirty, inside and out, and the outside mirrors had so many dried water spots that you couldn’t see out of them. As we prepared to leave the facility, the agent at the gate told us that we needed to complete a vehicle assessment form listing all damage. Contrary to what the rental agent told us.

Once on the road, we found the vehicle to have a load vibration under the hood when accelerating at highway speeds. Already an hour out of town and 10:00PM, we did not return. We also found during a snowstorm that the driver's side windshield washer didn’t work, and the passenger side ran out of fluid after using it just three times. We had to purchase a gallon of cleaner fluid to get through the snow. Now that we have returned the vehicle, there were additional charges that we did not know about. We will never use Fox again!

We had rented a Corolla in the past and wanted a bit bigger this time. What we got was smaller than a Corolla. It was a Hyundai i10. Needless to say, some of our luggage had to ride in the back seat. Never rent from this outfit. Also, be aware that the car rental has mandatory liability insurance that will cost you more than the car rental itself. Our 5-week rental cost $2600.00 + CAD.

When I mentioned the 12 hour policy, the response was that we could take it or leave it. So if your flight gets delayed, they will likely use this to upcharge you. Additionally, we declined all insurance and they still charged us for it. NEVER RENT A car FROM FOX AGAIN!!!! The staff here engaged in deceptive behavior: I have reserved a car rental service (on OCT 31, 2024 to Nov 03, 2024) through the Priceline website for Fox Rent-A-Car at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Intl Airport (ATL), located at 2200 Rental Car Parkway, College Park, GA 30337, and paid $175.91. When picking up the car, a fat woman at the station gave me a form to sign, and they charged me $308.32. She told me that this amount included a $152.32 deposit and a $156.32 rental fee. She assured me that once they received the payment transfer from Priceline, this money would be refunded to me. This is the scam.

Later, when I called to inquire about this matter, I discovered the truth: the $156.32 charge was actually for additional services. However, the staff did not clearly explain this to me at the time. Their deceptive behavior was that when I questioned why I was being charged this fee, they told me it would be refunded. My mistake was not carefully reading the lengthy terms when signing because, in my past experiences renting from other companies, I never had to read such long agreements and had never been deceived before. Typically, after completing the paperwork, I would just sign. I strongly advise everyone not to rent a car from FOX because it is difficult for customers to avoid the traps and pitfalls they deliberately set. THE The staff NAME IS EMIREY.

I booked the car through Expedia. I waited in line for over 45 minutes to get the car. By the way, there were no other lines at the other rental car companies. The person who helped me was named Cynthia. She was very nice, but I feel that she lied to me. She convinced me to pre-pay the gas and I would be fully refunded for what I did not use. I have a witness (my daughter who was with me and heard her tell me this). She told me that the gas at the local gas stations was around $4.70 cents per gallon, but they would only charge me the $3.47 cents per gallon. I then asked, "well what if I fill up my tank full." Cynthia said that I would get the full amount refunded. And if I only used a few gallons, I would get the amount unused re-funded back to me. I only used 1/4 of a tank of gas. I received the vehicle with it being full on February 14th at 2:18pm. I used 1/4 a tank of gas (returned it with 3/4 tank of gas full on February 16th at 4:32pm.

Cynthia told me I would be refunded for the amount of gas that I didn't use. Getting pre-paid gas is a scam! I did not receive any refund until I contacted support and they would only refund me 1/2 of the gas charged. They would not refund me for the 3/4 of the gas that I was charged for. I was also charged for a platepass to go through the toll roads, which I am happy that I got because I didn't even see a place where you could pay a toll fee.

There are so many taxes and fees on the final invoice that I was not told I would be charged for nor did I realize I was charged for. I have never been charged so many hidden fees from other rental establishments. I agreed to pay for the Platepass and the gas I used-not other amounts like fees called: Concession, Recovery, Surcharges, Customer Facility fees, Energy recovery fees, vehicle license fees. I understand having to pay taxes, but why both Local sales tax and state tax with surcharges? So to rent a car for 50 hours, it will cost almost $300 bucks. This is a lot more than I thought that I had agreed to.

I feel deceived. I have never been scammed like this before. I called billing and they would only refund me for <$53.21> So half of the gas that I was charged for not 3/4 of the gas I should have been refunded for not using. I am not impressed with Fox at all. Your employees are either deceiving clients into paying for additional fees or they are undereducated and need more training on the charges that they are signing customers up for.

There are so many bad reviews when it comes to car rental companies but FOX is truly beyond sketch and it makes sense why the price is cheaper. I have never written a bad review for a car rental company until now. We rented a car from here and shortly after driving it on our trip we noticed a massive bulge in the wall of the tire (it could have popped any second). Thankfully we noticed it before it caused a massive car accident by popping on the interstate while it was pitch black.

Due to the late hours of the night and limited options, we had to get a used tire for the car which was $260 (for the cheapest one) then we had to get another tire on the car towards the end of our trip for another $260 to replace that one. All because we received a damaged car from the beginning. So on December 21st, 2024 we called the help desk who sent us to roadside assistance who sent us to billing and they told us they would reimburse us since it's a safety issue they created and they did not check the car before renting it to us (there was no quality check done). They told us to talk to the local office when returning it and we would get our money back for the purchased tires. Also worth noting we called them on the 26th and 27th as well.

When we returned the car, Christina (The manager) was being super difficult but said they would send our receipts to management. So we sent them early January along with all the details. No response, after several calls and 4 emails Felecia ** responded to tell us there was nothing she could do and that she gave it to Christina. We were not allowed to have Christina's phone number or email address so there is no way to follow up. What else do you do?

So we call Billing again (this is now Feb 7th, 2025) who tells us there is nothing they can do and to call the store... but the store isn't responding or answering? There is no communication from billing with their offices or help desk. Billing said they didn't even have a phone number for the stores and when asking for the manager, they said there was no manager in their office. How is there no manager? She reassured us there was no one else to talk to but her. So if you have a life threatening issue with the car, there is no way to get help or assistance. Also, I really hope no one had an orange Nissan mid sized car after us because it absolutely has a life threatening issue with it.

AVOID AT ALL COST! I'd give them 0 stars if that was an option. There are too many other excellent car rental companies to work with instead. This company CLOSES at the airport just after 12:30 AM so if your flight is delayed, you cannot get a car. The fine print is that if you do not contact them within 12 hours of your scheduled pick up time, they keep your money and expire your reservation!! For example, our flight was to arrive at 10:30 PM, was delayed and we did not arrive and disembark until 1 am. Had to spend $60 on a taxi to drive us to our hotel, arrived to our hotel at 4 am, awoke and called the company at 10:45 am because we were sleep deprived.

Despite calling only 15 minutes after their 12 hour policy they showed no flexibility and told us our reservation was expired and we were not permitted a refund!! A car company that is based out of an airport knowing flights are delayed daily should be more flexible or stay open around the clock like all the other car companies we walked past at the airport. This company robbed us of nearly a $1000 and caused serious stress. NEVER EVER AGAIN! I truly wished I had read reviews before selecting them. I hope this saves someone else from this experience. Renter BEWARE! Fox staff will illegally and unscrupulously ensure your contract is for more than you originally agreed to, such as when you rent a car through Priceline. Terrah, at the Denver facility, had me initial that I did not want insurance for my rental, when in fact I was initialing for a platepass for unlimited tolls. My total tolls would have been under $8, as per previous trips. Why would I initial for a t $101.92 platepass? But if you sign without seeing their computer, once you pass a single toll, there is nothing you can do. Neither Priceline, your credit card, the CO toll company, nor Fox will help you.

Also, I spent the week filling the back tire with air because the sensor showed low tire pressure. On the shuttle back to the airport after dropping off the car, another couple told me they experienced the exact same issue, on the exact same tire - the rear passenger tire. Be aware of what you initial for and check the contract before signing. You CANNOT TRUST FOX STAFF. And especially be aware of Terrah at the Denver airport if you rent through Fox! Horrible company. Do not use! The San Diego location rented me a car and the car battery died in the Legoland hotel parking lot. I missed my flight home because of it and they sent someone to tow the car. We had Legoland try and jump the car two separate ways with no success. Their roadside assistance showed up six hours later and claimed they were able to jump the car and towed it anyway instead of giving me the car back so I could make a flight the next day. They then had the gall to charge me $1,060 for the tow. I am now out five airline tickets (cost me three times as much as the original flight), another hotel stay, meals for five (three children under 10), and an Uber ride to the airport the next day. I had a horrific experience with Fox Rental Car at LAX and I see that others had the same issue. There was a long line up at the customer service desk & it took over an hour to get through to an agent. They would not accept my credit card because my short name is on it while my full name is on the Driver's license. Timothy/Tim or Bobbie/Bob, etc is not acceptable to these people. The manager was very rude about it & I got the feeling they were very busy and possibly running low on cars to rent to people. I had arrived internationally and now was stuck with no car in some neighborhood in Los Angeles. Sadly, I had to return to the airport and hopefully find another one. I did and because it was a last minute booking had to pay US$600 extra to drive away in the same car. It looks like this company has a lot of one-star reviews and I can see why. Beware!

On 10/30/24, during the car rental process at Fox Rent A car. I was pressured into signing a car rental agreement in a small tablet with just the signature/initial box without letting me see what I am signing. All I saw was the blank signature/initial box that Christina at Fox Rent A Car Las Vegas asked me to sign and initial. I don't even know I am signed up for all the rental car add-on of $379.42. After I signed the agreement form, Christina gave me the agreement form of $521.75. I asked “What is this $521.75 is for? Since I already paid for the total car rental cost of $142.33 to Fox Rent A Car on my credit card on 10/28/24” Christina told me “It is a temporary credit card hold, and I won't be seeing this $521.75 hold after I returned the rental car”.

After I returned my rental car, I received a receipt of 521.75, in which $379.42 is the rental car add-on that I have no knowledge about that was charged to my credit card. After checking my credit card account, those charges are real charge and are not temporary credit card hold like Christina said. This transaction process is a scam and a very bad business practice, which is totally unacceptable. In addition, I am being charged 6 times on airport shuttle fees when I only used the shuttle two times, to and from the airport. The pressure tactics, the lies, and doesn't let customers see what they are signing into lure customers on purchases of all the rental car add-on are unacceptable. I won't be going back to Fox Rent A Car ever again. Based on thousands of reviews on the internet complaining the same things on bad business practices and tactics that Fox Rent A Car used, it is recommended not go to with this rental car company.

TL;DR Fox Rent A Car refused to add my spouse as an additional driver because we have different last names. Fox rent a car does not deserve a 1-star rating. I wish Customer Affairs had negative ratings for companies like this. Fox rent a car seems to be running a bait and switch business model based on my experience.

THE DETAILS! I've had several issues with fox rent a car and always gave them a chance, but they never cease to disappoint and only get worse. Yesterday (November 27th, 2024), my spouse and I rented a car, before booking, I carefully read their policies: the additional driver policy (spouse can be added at no cost if present with a valid license), cancellation policy (no cash refund, $50 fee, in-store credit for “pay now” option), and payment policy (name on CC must match reservation and driver).

Everything seemed fine, so I proceeded with the reservation. When picking up the car, I tried to add my spouse as an additional driver, only to be told we couldn’t because we have different last names. I pointed out that this wasn’t in the policy I had read (see policy attached). They claimed it was their policy, but it wasn’t stated anywhere, and they couldn’t provide proof when I asked. I asked if proof of marriage was needed, and they replied, "No, as long as you have different last names, you'll have to pay extra to add your spouse. It's our policy." I asked if we had the same last name and address but weren’t married, would we be considered married and add her at no cost. She replied, "it’s our policy to “have the same last name”. WHAT? We are legally married! Are they inventing policies to take advantage of people, especially during the holiday season when rentals are in high demand? This is absurd!

Please, do yourself a favor and avoid fox rent a car at all costs. Don’t be fooled by their cheap rates/deals. Pay a little extra for better customer service and peace of mind. From my experience, fox rent a car couldn’t care less about their customers—they see us as just another way to make money. As many others have noted, the desk clerks can be shockingly rude, dismissive, and uninterested in helping. If something goes wrong, their default response is always, “It’s our policy. Sorry, nothing I can do.” They clearly don’t care about resolving issues because they know someone else will take the car if you don’t. On top of that, there’s a major focus on squeezing out extra money through extra charges, hidden fees, and citing questionable policies designed to justify the charges. Be prepared for unexpected costs at pickup—or better yet, save yourself the frustration and take your business elsewhere.

When we were told that we needed to have the same last name to add my spouse at no cost, we were understandably frustrated and disappointed. However, the clerk remained completely unfazed. She simply kept repeating, "It's our policy, there's nothing we can do," with a tone that was not only unapologetic but also dismissive and offensive. It was clear she had no regard for the inconvenience or frustration we were experiencing and was ready to move on to the next customer in line to exploit. I’ve attached a copy of the Terms and Conditions, which are the same ones fox rent a car emailed us. Nowhere in these terms does it specify that my spouse and I need to have the same last name in order to add her at no additional cost.

Fox Rent-A-Car is an absolute disaster, and I would give them ZERO STARS if I could. Not only did they fail to provide the service I paid for, but they also LIED to my credit card company to avoid refunding me the $571.12 they owed me. This company is a SCAM, and their shady practices are NOTHING SHORT OF THEFT.

I initially booked an 11-day car rental on May 4th, 2024, for $571.12, for a trip starting June 20th to check on my BLIND, WIDOWED 75-YEAR-OLD AUNTIE with STAGE 4 CANCER. But due to my auntie’s EMERGENCY ROOM VISIT—the third in just four months—I had to change my June 2024 travel dates. Fox Rent-A-Car REFUSED to apply my credit to the new reservation on THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS: June 3rd, June 9th (when I needed to extend my rental), and July 16th when I was returning for my auntie’s 75th birthday party.

As a SURVIVOR OF THE 2023 LAHAINA WILDFIRES, I had just moved back to Lahaina June 2024 and was adjusting to unforeseen traffic problems caused by debris removal, road maintenance, and other issues beyond my control. Normally, I allow plenty of time—I like to arrive 2 to 2.5 hours before flights to avoid stress because I HATE being late. My professional and personal life revolves around making and showing up for appointments on time. This was the FIRST TIME I had ever missed a flight in my 50+ YEARS OF TRAVELING.

On July 16th, I missed my flight due to a PERFECT STORM of road closures: trucks removing wildfire debris, BOULDERS on the road, and lane closures for guardrail repairs. Despite this, I CALLED FOX RENT-A-CAR IMMEDIATELY to inform them I would be 24 hours late and requested they hold my reservation. Instead of helping me modify it, they FORCED ME TO CANCEL and charged me an additional $26 to rebook. However, after 36 minutes on the phone—including MULTIPLE HOLDS—they claimed they were able to use their computer to cancel the reservation, but they couldn’t process the new booking due to "computer problems" and "dynamic pricing." They told me to rebook online, but I tried for HOURS with NO SUCCESS.

After hours of dealing with their INCOMPETENT and RUDE customer service—which seems to be outsourced to a call center where ENGLISH IS A SECOND LANGUAGE—they HUNG UP ON ME MULTIPLE TIMES. This left me STRANDED WITHOUT A CAR during a FAMILY EMERGENCY! When I finally arrived at their rental location, they claimed there was NO RESERVATION under my name, said they were OUT OF CARS, and REFUSED TO HONOR MY CREDIT with their sister company. They tried to charge me OVER $750 FOR FEWER DAYS THAN I ORIGINALLY BOOKED—$250+ MORE than I had already paid—and told me I’d have to come back the next day to pick up a car! My destination was 40 MINUTES FROM THE AIRPORT without traffic.

When I REQUESTED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR, I was pressured into accepting the INFLATED PRICE and then HUNG UP ON AGAIN when I refused. By the time I arrived at my brother’s house after midnight, the online price had INCREASED TO $978.80—NEARLY DOUBLE MY ORIGINAL RESERVATION COST.

To make matters worse, Fox Rent-A-Car LIED TO MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY (Hawaiian Airlines Bank of Hawaii World Elite Mastercard through Barclays). They falsely claimed they refunded $500 of my $571.12 on May 4th, 2024. THIS WAS A COMPLETE LIE! The $500 was a SEPARATE DEPOSIT CHARGE that was returned in a different transaction and had NOTHING to do with the $571.12 rental fee that was NEVER REFUNDED. Despite providing CLEAR EVIDENCE from my Barclay statement (the only credit card I use to earn travel points), which showed the $500 deposit charge and return, my credit card company sided with Fox Rent-A-Car. They claimed my dispute was only for $71.12 because "services were rendered."

Fox Rent-A-Car repeatedly offered me credit but FAILED EVERY SINGLE TIME to let me use it. The final blow was being ABANDONED AT THE AIRPORT, FEELING UNSAFE, DURING A FAMILY EMERGENCY, without a car and without help from their so-called customer service. Their credibility is beyond repair. It feels like being TRAPPED IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP that you’re forced to return to again and again.

I am BEYOND FURIOUS with this company’s behavior. They have held over $500 of my money for MONTHS without delivering any service or resolution. This kind of PREDATORY BEHAVIOR is exactly why customers need to avoid this company AT ALL COSTS. This is CORPORATE GREED AT ITS WORST! Fox Rent-A-Car feels entitled to KEEP MY MONEY without providing service, and they LIE ABOUT REFUNDS. It’s absolutely DISGUSTING that even my credit card company has been misled by their deceit.

Let’s not forget: Fox Rent-A-Car is now owned by EUROPCAR MOBILITY GROUP, one of the largest car rental companies in Europe. Europcar proudly claims to have entered the U.S. market by acquiring Fox Rent-A-Car, one of the largest independent car rental companies in America. If this is how Europcar operates in Europe, CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE WARY ON BOTH CONTINENTS! It seems they’ve only brought their CORPORATE GREED and DECEPTIVE PRACTICES into the U.S., leaving customers like me STRANDED and out HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS.

I don’t know about you, but I’m TIRED OF BEING SCAMMED by greedy corporations like this—taking money from hard-working people, FAILING TO PROVIDE THE SERVICE PROMISED, and then LYING ABOUT IT! If you value your time, money, and sanity, STAY FAR AWAY FROM FOX RENT-A-CAR AND EUROPCAR MOBILITY GROUP!
