We booked a room for two nights. When we arrived we noticed there was no air on in the hallways before entering our room. The air was off in our room. We turned the air on and left for dinner. When we got back to our room was so humid that everything felt damp and sticky. We have family staying at the same hotel, and they also said it feels gross and humid in their room. The front desk clerk said she would talk to the owners and get back with us, but it would be the next day. This is our first time to stay at a Candlewood hotel and our last. This hotel is only a year old and shouldn’t have humidity issues, but it looks like a chain-wide problem based on other reviews. Location Oxford, AL.

I want to give special mention about Kyle, Candlewood Suites on Zorn Ave. in Louisville KY. We had a death in the family and he was sooo helpful and courteous. He went out of his way to make our stay as easy as possible for the circumstances. Thanks again, so much Kyle!

Night receptionist cocky reply after we waited in silence and then questioned her checking room availability. She spoke nothing when we entered and requested room availability. No hello, welcome, or let me check to see if there’s anything available. If she would’ve conveyed the computer being slow, we would’ve understood that it would take a moment. She does not represent this hotel very well. She was very unwelcoming. We chose to stay somewhere else.

I booked a stay at Candlewood Suites Navasota on 12/16 for the upcoming weekend because it’s a newer hotel (to avoid concerns like mold) and close to Santa’s Wonderland and A&M. My granddaughter has an immune deficiency, so staying somewhere newer felt safest. The next day, my 7-year-old granddaughter was diagnosed with strep throat and Flu B. I called the hotel to cancel and asked for the manager but was told he wasn’t available. I left my information and was advised to call between 9am–4pm. I called multiple times over two days and never received a return call. I then contacted corporate, received a case number, and was told they notified the property manager and that he should reach out. They also advised me to keep trying. I eventually reached the assistant manager, who attempted to cancel but said only the manager could complete it due to system restrictions and didn’t want me charged incorrectly.

After continued attempts, I finally spoke with Mr. Sandip **. I explained the medical emergency and offered doctor documentation. He said I would have had to cancel the same day I booked (12/16). When I asked to speak to his supervisor, he said he was the owner. I asked if the reservation could be moved to the following weekend instead; he refused, declined issuing any credit, and repeatedly told me to dispute it with my bank. I never checked in, yet my account was charged. I attempted cancellation within 24 hours, tried to reschedule to mitigate loss, and made every effort to resolve this directly.

I have now filed a dispute with my bank, and the hotel is contesting it. I trusted IHG and Candlewood Suites to provide safe accommodations and reasonable customer service in the event of an emergency. It is extremely disappointing that neither the property nor corporate has resolved this matter, and this experience reflects very poorly on the level of service provided.

Hi, my name is John **. I'm 74 years old. My phone number is **. I live at **. CANDLEWOOD SUITES IN HAZLETON, PA - SECURITY/SAFETY COMPLAINT. My partner, Kathy and I checked about 4:30 pm on October 6, 2025. We were travelling north to Massachusetts. Our room (#104) was on the isolated lower level. The Main Desk is on the 4th level. I walked the wrong way down the corridor when I got off the elevator on the lower level. I noticed that the Fire Sprinkler Test Room Doors were open to the outside. I figured the staff was actively working? It's a bad safety practice to leave hotel, office or dormitory doors open to the outside, unattended. It leaves the floor open to violent criminals or vandals.

Around 5:30 we went to supper. I re-checked the Test Room and it was still open to the outside. I took photos. There was nobody in the corridor and nobody outside in the rear yard. We took the elevator to the Main Desk and I told the Assistant General Manager and his staff the story. He said that a crew was working in the area. I explained that I looked all around and nobody was there at 5:30 and the floor was wide open to the back yard and unattended. Anybody could have walked into the isolated lower level. There were dehumidifiers on the floor and the corridor smelled moldy. I had the feeling that the Assistant Manager was just trying to blow me off. I said I want this filed as a complaint and I request my room be compensated. He said that he had to check in with the General Manager.

This prompted several calls back to me as the Assistant General Manager spoke to the General Manager and relayed his orders. Calls were at 5:54, 5:59 and 6:04. One was made by a woman on his staff. I repeatedly asked to be compensated as the warning I gave them could have saved somebody's life or prevented a vandal from activating a False Fire Alarm. He told me that the GM was throwing Kathy and I out of the hotel and the Police had been called to come in 30 minutes. (SERIOUSLY) I went up to the Main Desk at 30 minutes to file a report with the Police. The Assistant GM said the Police came but said it would be "unfair" to throw us out and they left. He told us that the General Manager still wanted us out. I warned him that this was an unethical thing to do.

Kathy and I were polite and civil. We are 74 and 73 years old. You can't legally throw somebody out for making a safety complaint? Kathy and I had enough - we left fearing some more violent type of retaliation. Plus, the corridor on the lower level was infested with flies. Additionally, I had noticed gasoline lawn machines in the Test Room. You can't store GASOLINE under occupied hotel space. I have filed a complaint with the Sugarloaf Fire Department. I don't think that the staff in this hotel have even a minimal amount of appreciation for the security and safety efforts required to reasonably protect people. Plus, to retaliate against two people in their 70's for making a safety complaint is undefendable. Thanks for your consideration.

      John **

KICKED OUT OF CANDLEWOOD SUITES IN HAZELTON, PA FOR LIFE SAFETY COMPLAINT. Kathy and I checked in about 4:30 pm on October 6. Our room was on the lower level. I think it was 104. I walked the wrong way down the corridor when I got off the elevator. I noticed that the Fire Sprinkler Test Room Door was open to the outside (see photo). I figured the staff was actively working. It's a bad safety practice to leave hotel or dormitory doors open to the outside, unattended. It leaves the floor open to violent criminals or vandals. In a Test Room, opening the wrong sprinkler valve will activate the fire alarm and empty the hotel. So vandals are a concern.

Around 5:30 we went to supper. I re-checked the Test Room and it was still open to the outside. This time I took photos. There was nobody in the corridor and nobody outside. We took the elevator to the Main Desk and I told the Assistant General Manager (A.G., I think?) the story. He said that a crew was working in the area. I explained that I looked all around and nobody was there at 5:30 and the floor was wide open to the back yard (photos). I said I want this filed as a complaint and I request my room be compensated. A.G. said he had to check in with the General Manager (J.D.). This prompted several calls back to me as A.G. spoke to the General Manager and relayed his orders. Calls were at at 5:54, 5:59 and 6:04. I repeatedly asked to be compensated as the warning I gave them could have saved somebody's life or prevented a vandal from activating a False Alarm.

A.G. (Assist. GM) told me that the GM was throwing Kathy and I out of the hotel and the Police had been called for 30 minutes. I went up to the Desk at 30 minutes to file a report with the Police. A.G. said the Police came but said it would be "unfair" to throw us out and they left. A.G. told us that J.D. still wanted us out. I warned A.G. that this was a dumb thing to do. Kathy and I were polite and civil. You can't legally throw somebody out for making a safety complaint. Kathy and I had enough - we left. As an old Facility Manager, I might be slipping? I was so worried about criminals and vandals, I didn't notice the gasoline lawn machines in the Test Room. You can't store GASOLINE under occupied hotel space (photo). What a place! Never stay at the Candlewood Suites in Hazelton.

The staff is very helpful and accommodating but the atmosphere isn't something that I would bring my children around nor my grandmother. There was late-night partying in the gazebo area with big bottles of booze, and I didn't feel safe on taking my dog outside. There were no designated areas for our dog, in which we were told that there was. Late into the evening, housekeeping and it was quite loud. Not sure that a $300 deposit is worth it at all, despite having a kitchen and a very small room with only one chair.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Mr. ** of the Bethlehem property via phone during a booking inquiry. He was extremely courteous, professional, and resourceful. Although the hotel was sold out on my day of interest, I was so pleased with the stellar customer service experienced during my call. Mr. ** showed great responsiveness and patience. He provided me with valuable information that increased my confidence in the establishment. I am confident that he is an asset to Candlewood Suites.

I would have recommended this hotel if I had been asked early that morning, right before checkout. The staff throughout the evening and night were very accommodating, kind, helpful, polite, and pleasant. The next morning, change of shift, the entire aura changed in the hotel. And I have yet to receive a refund of the unused money from my deposit. which is $68. It’s been five days. The hotel keeps telling me they released the money. I have a statement from my bank saying they haven’t.

Now why would they keep my money so long? I have been on the phone with them no less than five times and they keep telling me that they released the money which makes no sense why it wouldn’t be in my bank. My bank is immediate. The staff lied to me about it over and over again and they still have yet to return it. Although I am not happy with the refund of my money, The hotel is very nice and like I said the overnight staff was great, daytime staff not so great. very rude, very unaccommodating, and I believe one of them rolled their eyes at me which shows extreme unprofessionalism. Daytime staff needs to take a tip from nighttime staff on how to treat customers and please could someone return my money to me?

This hotel is awful. Reservations are sent to a 3rd party, which they don’t tell you! If you have to cancel your reservation they only give partial refunds and you have to call everybody and their brother to TRY and get the rest of your refund. The hotel manager was very rude to me when I called the hotel to speak to him personally concerning my situation. The local hotel doesn’t know who their reservation company is and they just tell you to call Expedia, etc. My situation is going on for a month and still have no answers or refund. I highly recommend not EVER making a reservation with them. Nobody takes responsibility. I don’t want to even this company one star.
