    Bait-and-Switch Pricing. Avoid. Scam.
-ACE advertises very low base rental prices online (through sites like CarRental.com, Kayak, or Expedia).
-When customers arrive at the counter, agents often:
-Add undisclosed insurance charges (even if you already have coverage).
    - Claim certain insurances are mandatory (e.g., liability, CDW, or supplemental coverage).

👉 The result: the final rental cost ends up much higher than the quoted online rate.

Had a reservation through CaRentals.com for $140 including all taxes and fees. The agent used scare tactics to add extra insurance and toll tag. Final cost ended up at $501! The agent neglected to tell me that because I added the insurance I no longer had the original agreed upon rental fee. That allowed them to add over $160 in additional taxes and fees. Apparently there3 is a financial incentive for the agents to add extra fees. Terrible customer service attitude "You signed it. You pay for it."

My wife just went through getting a car at Tampa, FL location. The absolute worst experience renting cars, ever. First time ever she was asked for a proof of insurance. Usually a name of the insurance company suffices. She asked me to assist over the phone. The agent named Andy was incredibly rude to her, rude to me, and refused to speak to me. He also refused to specify what kind of a document would satisfy him. He refused to give his last name and prevented her from taking a picture. The supervisor was equally unhelpful. We are insured with Travelers, and it took me 15 minutes on the phone with an agent to get a document with my wife's name. We only booked with this company because the rate was ok, and they are located at the airport, not offsite. Don't make our mistake!

Even after verbally discussing we didn’t need additional insurance of any kind and the rep reviewing our policy coverages on my phone she still had us initial all the boxes and boom we inadvertently agreed to this no purpose coverage. I’ll never rent from ACE again. Their customer service was awful, rude, unprofessional, and completely unhelpful. They forced me to buy their own insurance, even though I had my own coverage. The insurance was outrageously expensive, costing me $150 for just two days of basic liability. It feels like they trick people into paying hidden fees and unnecessary costs. If you’re thinking about renting from ACE, don’t do it. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else.

Avoid Ace Rental Car – Not Worth the Hassle. Don’t waste your time trying to save a few bucks with Ace Rental Car—it’s simply not worth it. I live in downtown Los Angeles and needed a rental car for a week. A friend recommended Ace, so I booked a car with them. After an expensive Uber ride to their location, the problems started. They asked for my ID and credit card, which is standard. But then, because I’m a local resident, they required a utility bill. I provided a phone bill, but the employee said that wasn’t acceptable—they only accept gas or electricity bills.

The issue is, I live in an apartment complex where gas and electricity are included in the rent, so I don’t receive separate utility bills. Despite explaining this, they refused to give me the rental and also said they couldn't refund my money due to company policy. Isn’t a phone bill still considered a utility bill? Bottom line: this company is rigid, unhelpful, and their policies make no sense. I strongly recommend staying away from Ace Rental Car.

They told me to email them my own insurance and they would refund me. I emailed them 2-3 times in early July with my insurance and never heard back.

I finally received a call on August 26th saying they would refund me $200, less than 50% off what I should be refunded. I called them today (Sept 15th, less than 3 weeks later) to complain and the representative had the audacity to challenge why I was calling them so late (after they had waited over 1.5 months to respond to my complaints). NEVER AGAIN WILL I RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I reserved a 12-passenger van five months in advance, only to receive a call 13 hours before pickup telling me there were no vans available at JFK and that I’d have to find my own way to LaGuardia to get one. Completely unacceptable. After pushing through multiple people, I finally got to a supervisor (Frank), who assured me he’d resolve it. He called back 45 minutes later, promising the van would be at JFK for us. But when we landed at 6 a.m., I got another call—the van still wasn’t there. Once again, we were told to go to LaGuardia. I asked them to send a shuttle, which took nearly an hour, and we would deal with it once we got there, only to hear the same story once we got there.

After wasting almost two more hours, the “solution” was for us to drive to Newark to get a van—and we had to find our own way there. We finally got them to agree to give us two rentals so we could drive to Newark. Before releasing the van, they forced me to pay for insurance even though I had full coverage with proof from USAA. The agent refused to honor it, telling me I had to pay upfront and could request a refund later. By the time everything was sorted, we had missed our scheduled boat ride—money completely wasted—because this company couldn’t honor a confirmed, prepaid reservation.

To top it off, after returning the van and letting them refuel it, I was hit with an outrageous gas charge of $136.20 for what should’ve been no more than $60. Still trying to dig to the bottom of this and figure out what in the hell they charged me for. The van itself worked fine, but the entire rental process was a nightmare. Not to mention the time that we spent wasting, watching all the other unhappy customers having just as many problems as we were having. This company caused unnecessary stress, wasted hours of our trip, and cost us money. I will never rent from them again.

Updated on 09/10/2025: Update: after I posted my review on another site, as you can see from ACE's response, they again deliberately ignored the fact that my own auto insurance DOES cover all liability when I drive a rental car in any US cities, for which I sent them all supporting documents, as I stated in my review. So this is another strong evidence to show how bad ACE Rent a Car is! And of course, they avoided the fuel charge part in the response, as they know it's their another common fraudulent practice to milk their customers. So don't use ACE Rent a Car at all!

Original review: I booked ACE at LAX for 5 days at the end of June. The booking price was around $290, but was charged by close to $500 when I returned the car. So if you think ACE is an economical car rental, think again, it is definitely not. They are a scammer and should be class action sued to return money to customers with similar experiences. Over the past two months, I've spent numerous hours contacting ACE's customer service, and even emailed their president Mr. Kevin Stutz (kstutz AT acerentacar DOT com) multiple times (never got his response), without overcharges resolved. Here is my experience:

    1. It took almost 2 hours from LAX terminal shuttle stop to ACE's rental office, as they don't pick you up directly, but you need to take an airport shuttle (very infrequent) to a parking lot, and then wait for ACE's shuttle (again, very infrequent) to their rental office.

    2. Liability insurance: during checkout, I explicitly told the rental agent that my primary auto insurance policy covers all liability on any rental car in US, and my paying credit card covers additional collision and theft, among others. But ACE still charged me liability insurance. After I returned home, I sent them all supporting documents, but they simply ignored them without any refund.

    3. Fuel charge: even though I filled the gas tank full (the gas gun stopped automatically) at the gas station two miles away from the car return place and showed them the gas receipt, ACE still said gas tank was not fully filled by 1 gallon. On the way to the airport, another renter told me that he had the similar charge. It seems this is another common fraudulent practice of ACE, very vicious and petty.

I think ACE takes advantage of customers not being able to switch to another rental company free and easily once at their rental office, and also in a rush to airport when returning a car, so they over charge customers with various fraudulent items. One way to punish such practice and avoid all troubles is for all people see this review NOT to use them at all. Another is if there is lawyer here, a class action suit may be launched against ACE, as I don't think my experience is unique.

My wife and I booked a rental car from Ace Rental Cars for Newark Airport for June 6, 2025 through June 17, 2025 and were required to pay the full price in advance. We received a voucher that indicated the terms of the agreement and gave instructions regarding the pick-up location at the airport for Ace’s shuttle and a telephone number where we could reach them. When we arrived a little early we were taken directly to the pick-up location and waited for our shuttle. After waiting what we felt was a reasonable amount of time for the shuttle to arrive, we called the telephone number provided. The phone was answered by a machine and we were transferred to Ace’s extension, but, as soon as the transfer went through, we were immediately disconnected. No matter how many times we tried the number we received the same results. The telephone information operator confirmed that we had the right number and dialed it for us with the same outcome.

We waited at the pick-up point for more than three hours while we continually dialed the telephone number, but there was never an answer from Ace. We finally went to another rental car kiosk in the airport and rented one of their cars so we could get to our hotel. For the next three days we attempted copious times to make contact with Ace, we also tried to make meaningful contact with Booking.com who had arranged the rental with Ace but both the chat that was provided on their web site and the telephone call with the AI agent provided no help for our situation. We felt abandoned. We made a claim for reimbursement with our credit card company, but, when Ace Rental Car Company told them that they had a car available and they were willing and able to provide it to us, the credit card company accepted their explanation and dropped our claim. I am writing to formally report a highly disappointing and unacceptable experience I had with the ACE Car Rental affiliate located at Miami International Airport (MIA), regarding a reservation I made via the Expedia website. I reserved a full-size vehicle intended to accommodate seven passengers, in good faith that my booking would be honored upon arrival. However, upon reaching the ACE counter at MIA Airport, I was told rudely and aggressively that no full-size vehicles were available.

I was instead forced to downgrade to an intermediate vehicle, which only seats four passengers, leaving my family without adequate transportation. And delay of spending an hour on the phone with ACE corporate and 30 minutes in the garage because we didn’t even get the Mitsubishi that was on the contract that the representative sent downstairs for us to utilize as the rental. I explained how troubling it would be to drive away with a car that is not on the contract. The representative offered no apology, resolution, or alternative and simply stated that I should be appreciative for receiving a Nissan Rogue. Again a vehicle that did not match my reservation needs. To make matters worse, all other rental car companies at the airport were fully booked, leaving me with no feasible alternatives.

This is a clear example of a bait-and-switch tactic: advertising one product, then substituting it with a lesser product upon customer arrival. I was further informed that this location is an affiliate, not a corporate-owned ACE branch, and therefore does not abide by the same standards or consumer protections. In addition, the rate I was quoted through Expedia was misrepresented. I was charged $150 more at the counter than what I agreed to online.

The staff also insisted that my American Express card could only be used toward insurance coverage, dividing liability and collision into separate charges another deceptive and unexplained practice. That no other rental car company does in my experience. I spent over an hour at the airport trying to resolve the matter, both in person and over the phone with ACE customer service, with no resolution. I was informed the only option was to “email the owner” to request a refund or price adjustment which is unacceptable for a national brand.

This company is deceiving at best. It's a scam 100% be aware before you book. This letter is to make all parties aware ACE Corporate, Expedia, and MIA Airport of the deceptive, predatory, and potentially fraudulent business practices being conducted by this ACE affiliate location. Please be advised that I will also be submitting this complaint to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) under unfair and deceptive trade practices, and I urge Expedia and ACE Corporate to investigate and reconsider this affiliate's ability to represent your brands.

I booked a rental car through booking and paid in full in advance. I received a clear list of required documents: my driver's license and a credit card which I provided on arrival at the rental office.

But instead of handing over the car, the staff started asking for a credit check. I've rented cars all over the U.S., and this was the first time anyone ever requested that. I agreed, since I have no issues with my credit history. Still, they said their system couldn't verify my address which I've used for over a year and is listed on all my official documents. We tried other previous addresses -- same result. While I was waiting at the counter for over 30 minutes, the employees were casually chatting about coffee orders at Dunkin' Donuts instead of helping me solve the issue. Then the manager came, took a photo of my ID on his personal phone (!) and disappeared for a while.

Next, they tried to force me to buy their insurance. I explained I already purchased full coverage from another company during my online reservation. The employee insisted it was "not valid," took my phone, and spent 10 minutes trying to convince me using random Google results that my coverage was incomplete. When I asked him to show exactly where it says my insurance doesn't cover third-party damage -- he couldn't.

After I pushed back, he suddenly said they could "make an exception." But then they circled back to the same issue -- their system "still couldn't find me," so they refused to give me the car. I had travel plans, accommodations booked, activities paid for -- and they left me stranded. I had wasted over an hour standing at the counter with no help, no solutions, and not even an apology.

To make things worse, I met another customer who had been checking in with her husband for over two and a half hours. Meanwhile, returning customers were complaining about mechanical issues and warning lights on their rental cars. This company is completely unreliable. Poor service, dishonest upselling, broken systems, and a total lack of accountability. If you have any important plans -- stay away. 0 out of 5.

It’s a scam. This company uses deceptive business practices to make you pay more. They advertise a low daily rate, but don’t disclose extra fees. I was bullied by Simon into buying their insurance policy which amounted to more than $50 PER day. The reason ACE gave is that local residents are required to show proof of insurance. That was NEVER indicated at booking or in the multiple reminder texts I received from them. I was not able to show proof that they deemed adequate, even though I was covered both by my credit card and by my personal auto insurance. I have rented many cars locally and in other states and never encountered this before. It’s completely intentional to recoup costs from the low daily rates they advertise.

I called ACE before leaving on my trip and they advised me that I would have to go to handle it at the rental office. I did that and told the clerk that I felt tricked into buying the insurance and the right thing to do would be to give a refund, and the first thing he said was “oh that guy never sells” meaning that the guy who rented it to me in the first place never sells the insurance. Deceptive and coercive business—avoid at all costs. The low price is not worth the headache and extra cost. The Spirit airlines of rental cars. More like ACE Rent à la CARte.

This business is trash tier and operates in bad faith that barely keeps them from being outright fraudulent. Never use this service and tell everyone to avoid them. They have all of this in writing and when I call to get it resolved they tell me I have to wait. It has been 3 weeks and they still have not refunded me the money. Now I have to go talk to my credit card provider so they can get it resolved because I know that it's not that hard to see that they made a mistake and to refund me my money. Shouldn't take more than 24 hrs to maybe 3 days. Horrible customer service would not recommend when renting. Go with one of the better companies. Do yourself a huge favor and avoid renting a vehicle from this company. I rent cars frequently, and this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had with a rental car company. I will never use them again. I read a review from someone who suspected the company was paying people to leave positive feedback and I 100% believe it. While I was there, every single customer was visibly frustrated, questioning absurd policies, or outright arguing with the staff. I originally booked a vehicle with unlimited mileage through the Priceline website. Ace offered very competitive rates, so I went with them.

Don’t let the cheap price fool you. You're better off paying a bit more for a reputable company. Once they pile on all the hidden fees and add-ons, plus the stress they cause, it’s not worth the “savings”. You get directions to their off-site location once booked. You have to take a train to a nearby station, then call their office from a designated phone to request a shuttle. I tried calling multiple times, both from the station phone and my own cell, and no one picked up. Eventually, I contacted Ace’s head office, got transferred and was promptly hung up on. Luckily, a shuttle finally showed up. The driver was the only positive part of the experience, he was helpful and friendly.

Unfortunately, I saw other staff treating him very poorly, which says a lot about the company culture. When I arrived at the office, two customers were already being “helped.” I couldn’t hear the entire conversation, but the customer service was terrible, and both ended up walking out without their rentals. I overheard something about a $1k security deposit, which turned out to be true. For context I’ve never been asked to pay more than $350 - $500 for a deposit $1k is outrageous. I told them I had rental insurance through my credit card, which I also used to pay for the booking. However, because I needed to use a different credit card for the absurd deposit they required, they claimed my insurance was no longer valid and tried to force me into purchasing their insurance.

Then, they told me the vehicle could only be driven within parts of southern Ontario. I asked for clarification, as I’m not from the area and had plans to visit Chelsea, Quebec (which to my knowledge is just across the bridge). They said it would be an additional $10 per day and that I'd be limited to 1,200 km. They also have signs everywhere advising you will be charged if you don’t return the car cleaned or will have to wait until they have one of their employees clean it. I understand fees for smoking or if you have pets, but to detail clean the vehicle is crazy, all other rental companies I have used clean the cars upon your return.

By this point, I had been there for over an hour. The staff were constantly speaking in another language amongst themselves, juggling multiple customers at once, and the whole operation felt disorganized and unprofessional.

Instead of paying the originally quoted $92, I ended up shelling out $260. To make matters worse: The car was dirty when I got it. The windshield wipers didn’t work and needed replacing. They took an excessive number of photos of the car before I left, likely to find reasons to charge extra upon return. Returning the car was just as slow. They took forever to inspect it and accused me of driving in Quebec for 3 days when we only spent 2 there. I agreed to pay for the extra day but refused to be charged for a 3rd.

Be prepared to spend at least an extra 2 hours of your time here for pick up and drop off, this is crucial if you are on the way to the airport/in a rush. They also told me the $1k deposit would be returned in 2–3 business days. It took 8 business days to get my money back. For comparison: I recently rented a car through Budget in Newfoundland. The car got dusty from all the driving, but when I returned it, I simply dropped the keys off at the desk—no hassle, no accusations, no need to clean it and my deposit was refunded within a couple of days. Avoid Ace at all costs. It isn’t worth it.

I was charged 60 euro to be picked up because the driver said he had to reopen the office for me on a Saturday. According to the hours on their website, they should have been open. I booked the car on Economy Bookings.com and bought full coverage including roadside assistance. Yes, it was a good deal but here's the glitch... Because I didn't purchase full coverage with Ace Car Rental directly, I was told I would have to purchase it again for about 375 euro or be charged an 1800 euro deposit.

Since I had already purchased coverage, I opted for the deposit. They held that deposit for 30 full days, even though I was assured it would be returned within 2 weeks. I returned the car with no damages, much cleaner than when I got it and with a full tank of gas (it had 3/4 of a tank when I got it.) The customer service was horrible. They don't seem to like American female travelers. Again, it was a good daily rate, but you end up paying for it in the long run. Don't bother!

One week later we get a call from their claims department saying we damaged the windshield in two spots. This was news to us. Three employees earlier said different, now this. Suspicious. They took $200.00 deposit and now are saying we have a balance of over $1,900.00 for it.

This company is a total scam, and I totally believe we are being taken advantage from a complete lie they made up. It's also interesting that these two spots they claim we did are under a $100.00 to repair, and even if that car needed a new windshield, it would cost around $700.00 with labor. We are now reaching out to the Attorney General in Florida, the BBB, and sharing this scam with everyone we can. They will not get one more penny from us nor ever our business!

ACE Rent A Car got to be the most unscrupulous, dishonest and deceptive company out there. And I decree and declare the Ace Rent A Car company will soon cease to exist. I reserve a car online and picked it up in Atlanta Airport on 3/26/25. At time of pick up, the agent called HEAVEN asked me if I wanted the basic rental package. I told her I wanted exactly what I selected online. She printed some paperwork and asked me to initial two lines. Two days later I realized that ACE charged my card for twice the amount of the online charge. I started calling their customer service number and left multiple messages from the Friday 3/28/25 until I returned the car on 3/31/25. No one ever answered or returned my call. Upon returning the car, I complained about the lack of customer service and about the excessive charges.

At that point, I realized that they had charged me for damage protection and for prepaid gasoline. None of these items were discussed, disclosed or agreed upon by me. At that point, they showed me my initials on the lines. I finally recalled the HEAVEN was very careful to draw my attention only to the two lines she wanted me to initial. I never saw the figures/charges on the right hand side of the page. I requested to speak with a manager and was told one would be calling me back. Two days later, a manager called me back and after a long back and forth about not being able to refund the excess charges, he did admit that he did hear when I say "I wanted exactly what I chose online". He offered to escalate the matter further up the chain of command.

Two days following that, I didn't hear from anyone else so I called back the number the manager called me from and what would you know!!! The number was disconnected. So obviously, he had used a burner phone to call me and then ditched it afterwards. This is a solid red flag that ACE and it's managers and employees are in the business of scamming unsuspecting customer and doing all kinds of shady deals. They had even charged my for a full tank of gas even though I returned the car with a full tank of gas.

Care renters, please DO NOT use ACE Car Rental because you will be scammed. Scamming is what they do. Car rental is just the side gig! I can promise ACE one thing, I will post my negative experience on every consumer complaints board out there. I will file a formal complaint with the Attorney General's Office, the BBB, with Georgia Department Of Revenue (DOR), Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Protection, and with Georgia Department of Economic Development. I told them I did not need insurance as that was covered through my credit card used for the rental. I gave them all my info and they had me sign on the pin pad a couple of times, but just hurried and scanned to the bottom, not allowing me to read anything at all and just telling me it was for the tolls and I was waiving insurance. We picked up the car and it smelled BADLY of cigarette smoke, but we didn’t want to get in line and wait for a different car so we just dealt with that.

After returning the car, I received the bill and charges to my credit card for an additional $218 more than I had already paid. There were random charges for the amount of days I had the car, plus the toll charges of $70 which I had agreed to and additional insurance charges. I contacted ACE to tell them, I wanted to talk to someone about the charges that were done that I had not agreed to. They sent me copies of the rental agreement saying I signed for these things and so I had agreed to them. When I picked up the car, the man helping me did not let me read anything and only told me about the charges I had agreed to.

I would not advise renting from this company, it cost me twice as much as It said the car should be and I was charged for originally. We had to do this because they kept either placing us on long extended holds, disconnecting the calls, and at one point it felt like they were avoiding our calls entirely.

But when I called KMS they told me that they had no authority to decide on a claim and that I would have to contact the Dallas Ace Rent a Car location. I asked how to get a hold of them and they told me to go back to Rosie at Walser... I did email her again and she told me to contact KMS.

The agent at KMS also told me that if I continued to dispute the claim they would take us to court where there would be many additional fees levied. They ALSO told me that they would engage the "full power of the DMV" to levy these damages against us... I have no idea what this means but I will tell you this: DO NOT RENT FROM THIS SCAM COMPANY.

Ace Rent a Car MCO is fraudulent, and cars are not maintained. First car given to me reeked of pot. Had to stand in line again for a car after standing in line for an hour for the first one. Second car smelled okay, but when I returned it (3 hours early) on the date of return, they charged me a late fee, then hung up on my husband when he called to dispute the charge. They also doubled the price of my booking for "additional driver". I did add an additional driver when I came in, but was not told it would incur double the booking price. My husband didn't even drive it!

But they got me -- when you sign the "I'm driving, I do/don't want insurance...." screens when you originally get there to pick up the car, they applied one of those signatures to the proposed charge for an additional driver, so it looks on the paperwork like I was aware of that charge. So small claims court is my only option I guess? They were significantly cheaper to book based on their expedia price, but the final dollar price is more expensive than the reputable companies that are actually in the MCO airport. Save yourself a shuttle transfer from the airport and the headache of spending the same amount of money for an unclean car and customer service that is rude and hangs up on you.

He placed my CPAP in back, my three luggage, and I took my purse up front while he rolled the cart away. There's no camera there, but at Ace...after I came back (phone call did nothing) and insisted that they watch video, no CPAP was removed from shuttle. I stop breathing at night 28 times an hour. Without it, I die. The young woman seemed totally "out upon" to look at the video. She tried to dissuade me saying "it will take time", "I'll need to get someone to do it". The last car rental, the car wouldn't start in the cold. So their prices are getting lower and lower.

When I picked up my car the counter person never asked me for proof of insurance or offered to sell me insurance. Insurance was never mentioned once. I was later charged $82 for insurance and when I contacted Ace support they told me I was charged because I didn't provide proof. They said it was my responsibility to bring up the subject with my counter agent as per their terms of service.

I looked at their terms and it explicitly says that if I can not provide proof that "the counter staff will insist that you buy the cover at the counter". Once again, the staff never asked for my insurance and never offered to sell me this insurance. It was added and I was charged without my knowledge. My rental was entirely positive until I noticed this extra charge after I returned from my trip. Be very careful with this rental company. The counter agent scammed me and the company refused to help me after the fact.

I tried calling someone while I had the rental to sit on hold for over an hour each time with no one coming to the phone. I reported the mechanical issues when I took the car back and they tried to offer me a 10% discount on a future rental. Why on earth they would think I would rent from them again, is beyond me. Rented a car from ACE for a business trip. When I got in to pick my car up it was late at night after traveling all day. Nathan at the desk asked me if I had insurance, and I said my company has rental insurance and instructs out of town employees to not pay for insurance. The man told me I couldn't rent a car unless I provided insurance information. Keep in mind this was late on a work night and I had no information on the insurance to provide him, with no way to get it, because I've never needed it since rental insurance is OPTIONAL. Not wanting to get stranded late on a Monday without a car after being told "I can't give you a car unless you have insurance" they pressured me into paying for their insurance. Which I did just to get the car and get out of there since I was exhausted.

After reaching out to my company's HR they asked me to reach out to ACE to lodge a complaint over being forced to get insurance when I shouldn't have had to and to see if I could get a refund. I did, and eventually their "customer support" (lol) told me they would not be refunding because they require insurance from renters per their Terms and Conditions so the charge was accurate. I re-reviewed the T&Cs and behold, it only says renters outside the US or who are local are required to provide insurance; neither applied to me. When I responded and pointed this out they stopped responding and never got back to me. They're scammers and will use underhanded methods to squeeze money - and won't admit they were wrong even when presented with proof from their OWN WEBSITE.

Also, on my rental receipt, it shows I signed for a $12.99 daily toll fee (which I did) but was charged $13.99 a day. When I pointed this out they also said I was "charged appropriately" but wouldn't acknowledge or address that what they present to you at checkout - and what you sign for - says one amount but they charge you a different amount. Terrible company and I've made sure no one traveling for my company uses them.

I went with ACE for a last minute rental through Expedia, pick up process was quick but problems began as soon as I got in the car. I was warned to return the car full of gas and of cleaning fees if I smoked in the car, all standard but apparently they pocket those fees because the car stank of cigarettes and was down to 3/4 of a tank. I called from the lot and spoke with "supervisor" Ryan **, I asked that the account be noted so I wasn't charged for cleaning and should only be responsible for returning with 3/4 of a tank as I needed to leave immediately and was assured that would happen.

I drove the car 90 miles away and discovered once the sun went down a headlight was blown out and the other appears misaligned. I spoke with Ryan again and he suggested I find an auto parts store and change the headlight and if I brought the receipt I would be reimbursed for the purchase price. I asked instead to swap the car the next day since it was on the way for the next leg of my trip.

When attempting to change cars they wanted to charge almost $20 a gallon because the tank wasn't full, when I stated I shouldn't be responsible for fuel when they provided me with an unsafe car the very heavy set agent laughed and said of course I was responsible it's in the contract. We went back and forth- I spoke with Ryan again and they ended up letting me leave with the same car, without addressing the headlights. I saw complaints about high mileage cars in other reviews but that didn't really concern me- if I had read that they have zero concern for safety and basic maintenance I would have reconsidered a rental here.

Otherwise, CDW and supplemental liability insurance will be required at the rental counter."

After my google review. ACE cust service contacted me asked for my insurance proof (not sure why because they decline refund anyway, perhaps they were hoping I don’t have coverage?). Their reason for declining a refund was “the insurance was signed for and accepted as well as used to cover the vehicle during your rental period.” Seems like they completely ignored the fact that I had to sign and accept because of the lying agent. I had and still having a difficult time with ACE near the Orlando airport on N Frontage Rd. I live in Florida and since I do they charge us a higher deposit than tourists- $500. They are scammers and rip people off. I rented with them December 4, 2024 and returned the car back early. They inspected the vehicle and I asked what do I need to do to get my refund. The guy said go inside and let them know. I told the representative that I needed a refund and he stated before I do I have to call the guy to see if any damages to the car. He stated no damages so now I can process your refund. He gave me two receipts showing that I owed no money and my refund to my card. He stated it will take a few days.

My adult was there and he is my witness. My mistake was not taking a picture of the car when I returned it. Couple of weeks passed and I called Dec 18 2024 and a rude lady told me yes we kept the money because there was damage to the car. I told her they gave me a receipt showing my refund and that I didn't owe any money. She couldn't even tell me where the damage was and gave me a bogus email to a manager. I called my bank and disputed the charges. After reading all the complaints on BBB I filed a complaint.

Then on December 19, 2024 I went in person same story no manager onsite and a claim was filed against me so take it up with Rockport Auto Claim and dispute it there. I was very upset and told them they are scammers and they filed a fraudulent claim. I warned the tourists not to rent from them because they stole from me and filing fraudulent claims. They were upset I did that and threatened me that they would call the police and I stated I wish you would since I need to file a report on them.

Later that day I received an email from Rockport Auto Claim charging me a whopping $1540.75 for a tire scuff. I told them that was not me and I bet they did it because they have rocky road in their lot. They wanted me to pay it or they will file a claim against my auto insurance. Update as of Jan 29, 2025 they filed a fraudulent claim with my auto insurance. I informed the adjuster of everything and she believed me and she looked up the reviews and saw similar situations. I provided her with all my evidence so it's currently under review.

I also wrote to government agencies BBB, FL Department of Agriculture and Consumer Protection, Orange County Consumer Protection, and Attorney General. I asked them for their help because they are taking advantage of tourists and hard-working Floridians. They all responded they couldn't resolve anything and its best to hire an attorney. So I am currently dealing with this situation. They need a class action lawsuit so they can never take advantage of consumers. I wish we all could gather together and file a lawsuit for ACE! I would rather pay more and deal with a reputable rental company. They were on BBB website now they are not BBB accredited.

What in the world is this new scam charge. Then it says this daily extension adjustment charge is $30.... another scam charge. Aside from that he charged me for the insurance liability costing another $100 in total. After calling and inquiring, he said to just bring a copy of the my insurance card and he'd waive that fee. This call happened after the rental period, which he told me to initial on the screen 'cause I was declining the insurance coverage (liar). Aside from that, I know my cc which was a business Amex would cover the insurance. When I came to return the car and show him the insurance card, he told me he couldn't do anything about the charge and I'd need to email someone in the company to get it resolved. 4. The rental place is bit in interior, but nothing to worry, pickup van takes there. It is safe and well lit.

    Experience:

    1. The manager was so kind and patient, upgraded me for no charge. I was not satisfied with the car I was provided.
    2. Team was courteous and smiling, which helps to interact well after long plane journeys.
    3. It is good to make short video, take pictures as due diligence when you take car. Also take picture of gas meter and miles for handy reference at time of returning. Glance your rental car paper work as quick checkpoint.
    4. Make sure either you buy extra insurance or your driver's insurance has good coverage.

    5. Gas is cheaper in city and at Costco if you have the costco card.

NoTE: Vegas driving is fast and unforgiving. Keep map and directions handy and plan ahead. Keep your phone charged all the time. Huge and scenic highways, expansive wilderness in vicinity makes it worth. Stay safe. Safe Drive. Cheers!

I wish I could give them -Zero ratings. I had a deeply frustrating and disappointing experience with ACE Rent A Car on December 21st, which I booked through Hotwire. From the moment I arrived at the rental location, it was clear that the company’s operations were disorganized and unprofessional. Here’s a breakdown of the events: Long Wait Time: I arrived promptly at 12:00 PM for my scheduled appointment, only to stand in line for over an hour. Among all the rental companies at the airport, ACE was the only one with an excessively long line and only one representative, Ebony, assisting customers.

Poor Communication and Instructions: Ebony repeatedly asked customers to step aside for reasons that could have been avoided. For example, instead of instructing customers to have their declaration page ready while waiting in line, she would send them back after reaching the counter, unnecessarily prolonging the process.

Rude and Unprofessional Behavior: When it was finally my turn, Ebony asked for my documentation, but after a minor delay while pulling up my insurance declaration page, she told me to step aside. Despite following her instructions, she proceeded to help other customers and then accused me of being "aggressive" when I asked to be assisted next. Her response escalated to canceling my reservation without valid reasoning.

Threatening Behavior: After canceling my reservation, Ebony refused to call a manager, ignored my questions, and even threatened to call the police when I tried to address the situation calmly. Her accusations were unfounded, and I was treated with hostility for simply trying to resolve the issue. Customer Support Failure: Following the incident, I contacted ACE’s customer service line. The representatives were unhelpful, claimed their systems were down, and could not escalate the issue to a manager. Days later, I still hadn’t received a proper resolution or explanation.

Financial Loss: My reservation was prepaid through Hotwire, but since ACE refused to honor the booking and canceled it unjustly, I did not receive the car I paid for. Hotwire refused to refund my money, citing their policy. This is unacceptable since I never received the service I paid for. Overall, this experience was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. Ebony's behavior demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism, courtesy, and integrity. The actions of the staff were hostile, dishonest, and unethical. I will never rent from ACE again and strongly advise others to avoid them. This incident has caused me unnecessary stress, financial loss, and wasted time. I am pursuing a dispute with my credit card company and am prepared to escalate to small claims court if necessary. Customers deserve better treatment than what ACE provided. State out of this car rental, very cheep but will charge you a lot later. Bad customer service.

Why isn't 0 stars an option? We booked this rental car with points, covering all of the cost. My wife was visiting her dying father and is not very experienced with rental cars and sleazy salesmen. We have full coverage with Progressive which extends to all of the US. However when she got there, the awful customer service rep told her she MUST sign up for the insurance. My wife said I don't need it and he said in the state of California, you have to. He saw a vulnerable woman on her own who needed the car to drive the hour plus to visit her dad and took advantage. What a piece of trash human being and company. They ended up charging us $200 in insurance and fees on a 4 day economy rental that should have cost less than $200 without any points!

I called to complain and get the charge removed and they said she had to go in person to do it. This vulnerable woman who was already taken advantage of has to drive over an hour back to the rental car company to ask them AGAIN to remove this fee? Ugh. She did talk to them when she returned the car and they told her to call the office the next day.. what in the world? Is it in person or via phone? I called the next day and left a VM as "Zee", the "Manager", who has not called me back. I also have a complaint opened with BBB. Bottom line, stay away. As with most rental car companies, they will try to upsell you. However, even if you decline all the add ons over and over again, they will trick you to thinking that your initials mean that you are declining additional options to rent the car. Upon receiving a bill that is almost double the agreed on price, they will show you that you actually put your initials next to a line saying you AGREE to additional charges. 3/4 of them are to DECLINE, but one is to accept to additional charges. The employees are complicit in the scam, and will outright lie to you if you aren't willing to read the entirety of the agreement. Customer service won't budge if your initials are there. It will not matter what the reason is or what the story is.

Read all the fine print so you know any documentation you need beforehand. The people were very nice and efficient. The check out process as you drive out was thorough and friendly. (They take fast pictures of the car before and after so you don't have to!) It is a long shuttle drive from airport or a long drive to the rental car place in Denver to drop off (follow the directions on your map not the sign that says rental car return). Highly recommended.

After I provided him the info he declined to give me the car stating I don't have coverage for it. After spending several minutes on my phone with my insurance company and leaving the vicinity, and trying to think about how I'm going to get to work the next day, only to find out I do have coverage. Booked and paid for a 10 day unlimited mileage car rental with ACE Denver International Airport through Priceline on August 19, 2024 for pickup on Oct 10, 2024. When we arrived at the desk there was a sign that stated that the rental car is restricted to driving to a number of out of state locations. The car was not allowed to go to Arizona. There will be a $350 penalty if the car goes to Arizona without permission. Our 10 day trip was covering a grand circle tour of the canyons which included those in Arizona. Permission was denied even with my willingness to pay an additional amount. The person then cancelled our reservation and Priceline issued a credit back to our credit card account. We lost 2 hrs of time, had to scramble getting another car rental through Hertz and pay an additional $430 in cost to get a quick same day booking.

Priceline and ACE should be clearly upfront about this out of state restriction. I searched for this restriction and could not find it under their general terms and conditions. If it is there, it is hidden. Also Priceline should have that restriction listed as part of their drop down filters. “Are you planning to drive to other states, if so check those states?" CO, UT, AZ and others. By checking AZ, ACE would not have come up as one of agencies available. I or my family members will never use ACE or Priceline again. Total fraud and misleading.

When I got my final bill there were duplicate charges or deceptive charges. They charged me an hourly rate for the 5th day even though I already paid for a full day. On the third day my wife and I had went to the balloon festival and parked the car around 3:30p. When we came back to the car around 9:10p it wouldn't start. I called the customer service and told them what was going on. The woman on the phone was very polite and told me she was "trying" to get ahold of their support team. When she finally got a hold of a so called manager he told her to tell me to find someone who could give me a jump because the battery was dead. REALLY?

My wife and I were stuck in a mall parking lot at 9:10pm on a Sunday night. No one was around. I ask the woman if they could send a replacement rental or a tow truck to jump the car as there was no one around and we were staying in Santa Fe. She connected me to the manager who right away was rude and was trying to talk over me when I was talking. I told him that I was the customer and he needed to shut up and listen to me first (management rule #1, you don't talk over your customer. You listen and try to calm them down and make an agreeable solution). I had to demand something be done for him to even agree to call for a tow to come jump the car but then said I was responsible for the charge. Excuse me? No. This unacceptable. He didn't even care that our hotel was an hour drive away and if the car wouldn't start we had to sleep in the car until we figured something out? Again, unacceptable. I booked this pay-at-the-counter via Priceline for $145.28. My credit card was billed $397.68. HUGE DIFFERENCE. I have never experienced this with any other rental car company before. I sent this to customer service after the trip, was talked in circles for months, then received an email that said, "We cannot refund you anymore as this has been months since the trip, and the information I just requested wasn't provided within that timeframe" (to which, it was, they were just talking me in circles to avoid refunding their errors).

We arrived late in the evening with a 2.5 year old on the verge of a meltdown, so I just trusted the counter person to do her job correctly. DO NOT DO THIS. They would not let me pay and my friend drive because the name on the card didn't match the driver. So we had to add an additional driver charge of $12.99 per day. All because I wanted to use my Delta AMEX to have double-protection. We stood there both with our insurance information (both more than enough of a policy to cover this), but were charged liability insurance at $19.99 per day without being told she did this or without an option of what to choose.

There was a daily adjustment fee of $30 added, but it doesn't appear in the total. Except, when you run the 11.11% airport access fee, they added this $30 in so the charge was larger. I literally cannot match the 7% sales tax to any of the numbers on the bill - even using solver in Excel. It is a made up number, so I cannot tell if it includes items it shouldn't such as fuel surcharge - which should already be taxed. I do not recommend this company. They are using you. Use another - use one that let's you check-in yourself prior to arriving and you just pick the keys up, such as Hertz or Dollar. No issues, overcharges or oversights with them whatsoever.

Avoid... Avoid.... This is not a serious company. First of all, they don't have any office at the airport (you have a transfer and you don't have anyone waiting for you, you'll have to call). Their business isn't rent a car, it's extorting money for some reason. In my case, I had to pay for the total painting of a bumper that already had damage, damage that was certainly already paid for previous customers.

For 1 risk in the exact place where another one was previously I paid almost 200€. In addition, the repair was hyper-inflated, as they claim that they would have to disassemble the bumper, which is totally false (I work for an insurance company). So if you want to be extorted, this is the perfect place. If you want a serious company, look for international rental companies. In addition, this company secretly puts GPS without respecting European data protection, and charges very high fines if you go on bad roads (which is more than likely in Albania). If you want problems rent here.

So either pay for an upgrade or wait 90 minutes to have the car available. And then she continued "we charge $ 30 per day for the upgrade but since you are a senior member of AAA you get a $ 20/day discount." I do not have AAA membership let alone being a Sr Member. I agreed to the extra charge of $ 10 per day because I did not want to wait 90 minutes for the "right size car". The upgraded car was a 2023 Corolla Toyota. Used and unclean.

Upon returning the car to the AP (Rented April 10 returned April 22 driven 74 miles); the receiving agent checked the car from the outside and then get inside the car. Using a flashlight (her phone) and a magnifier she started checking the dashboard. When I asked what she was doing, she told me she was checking for damages to the dashboard. I was surprised but said nothing. Then she moved to the windshield. Sam process but this time she discovered a chip in the windshield. With her magnifier and flashlight I failed to see it. She used a pen to point it to me. Still I could not see it. Long story short I have a flight to catch so I left the car without reaching a decision if there was really a chip or not. I TOOK PICTURES.

A couple of days later I receive a bill from ACE for approximately $ 2100 the cost of replacing the glass. I could not believe it. Now I have to respond. The quote is outrageous regardless whether the chip exists or not. But with my credit card details with them, I had to respond. Their response: Pay or we send to a collection agency. I called my primary insurance. Filed a claim with them. After a couple of weeks, my primary insurance paid them $ 739.25 with zero deductible for me. The claims adjuster told me this is the most inflated quote he saw in his career. Next back to ACE: they sent me a quota for the balance: $ 1357.74 which I will forward to my secondary insurer (Amex) to see what they will do. ACE people are professional thieves. I want to help any consumer avoid the scam that is Ace Rent a Car, I only wish I'd known myself how horrible this place is to rent a car or put down a credit card. Take the bad reviews of this rental place seriously and run in the opposite direction, rent from anyone else. ACE Rent A Car is a scam! They double charged us for our rental, we had paid in full through Priceline ($156) and then ACE charged us again ($263), promising it was just for a "deposit" except it was not a deposit after all. Additionally, their representative explicitly said we would not be charged for a second driver, yet they charged us for a second driver and refused to refund this. We asked for liability insurance, and they snuck in two other insurance fees even though we said NO.

We, unfortunately, trusted this place and only noticed the fees once we returned the car when they also snuck in an $80 gas fee for returning the car half-empty, which is how they gave it to us. We raised these issues in-store when returning the car and they told us to call/email and JJ would review the audio to verify that we were scammed and overcharged. Neither JJ nor a representative from Ace Rent a Car responded to our email or contacted us. Don't be fooled by this joke of a place and save yourself the trouble of mystery fees and being overcharged! When we returned the car and asked to dispute the charges, the people in front of us were doing the exact same because their rental agent had also snuck in mystery insurance they hadn't agreed to, lucky for them they found it before taking the car out!

Don't trust ACE Rent a Car, and don't do business here. If you are willing to risk it, review your agreement multiple times before taking out the car, because they seem to make a game out of finding opportunities to overcharge and scam their customers. There is no benefit or value-add to using Ace Rental a Car, the fact you have to inconveniently take two shuttles to get here, and then get overcharged is unbelievable.

So Ace closes at 5:30 in Maui. Unlike every other rental car place in Maui. That means if your flight changes like mine did and you arrive on any of the many flights that arrive after 5 well you will not have a car until the next day. No one will answer the phone and no one will be there when you pay for a Uber to their business. Imagine how we felt when we were told by multiple people at the airport that this happens all the time and people are left stranded and forced to rent a car for 1 night from any of the other rental car places all of which stay open until the last flight comes in. According to Ace most people don’t have a problem with it. They just wait at the airport all night and pick the vehicle up at 8am. Really? Let me pay $600 a night for a resort and not get to enjoy it the first night. The airport is nice but I would think most people are extremely mad like I was when they are stranded.

Even after providing proof of insurance coverage, he refused to release the rental car and insisted on receiving personal information via email. This lack of customer service and trustworthiness makes ACE Rent A Car the worst choice for car rentals. I strongly advise against renting from them and will not be recommending their services to anyone.

Well, the car ran and got good gas mileage that’s about all the ‘good’ I can say. There were times when I felt like I didn’t know if I was going to make it through my trip with the car. You can tell that it clearly had been in an accident or something and then fixed is now being used as a rental. I got in and noticed immediately that it smelled like smoke and I suppose that can be a subjective thing, but there was also a burn hole in the driver seat.

When I got to the airport I noticed that they aren’t on site like all the other rental car facilities, they are offsite. You have to call for a shuttle and they come get you to go get your vehicle. So, I did that. When I called for the shuttle, I was told it would be 5-10 minutes and to wait in zone one. I asked one of the crossing guards exactly where to stand and she told me so I stood there and waited. After about 20 minutes I did see the Ace shuttle come flying through the 2nd lane without even thinking about stopping! I waited for a couple of minutes thinking perhaps it was a mistake and he was going to swing back around or something but when no one came after about 3 minutes or so, I called back.

It was at this point that the girl who answered the phone was so incredibly rude it blew me away. I told her what happened and she rudely told me that I must be standing in the wrong place or the wrong airport because the shuttle was just there. I said yes I saw that the shuttle just flew through here without even stopping, she said that she would send the shuttle back and I wasn’t standing in the right place then I must not be at the right airport and hung up on me! I was totally blown away that someone who acts like that has a front facing position dealing with customers.

Then the unfortunate and uncomfortable displeasure of being shuttled to the location where I got to deal with the young lady who treated me that way on the phone, but didn’t apologize for treating me that way on the phone. And I didn’t say anything until after my rental experience was over because I didn’t want it to affect me getting my deposit back, but I feel like I purposely got the worst rental car available on the lot because of it. The whole experience is really unfortunate, especially after the last 24 hours of travel leading up to that point and everything I had been through to get to Charlotte. I was exhausted and just wanted to get to the place where I was staying.

Anyway, I could barely see the speedometer or the gas indicator. I don’t know how or why the inside plastic was so dirty or whatever but you can’t see or even clean it. The car was dirty inside and smelled of smoke. I did take a couple pictures just to protect myself in case they said that I returned it and that way. And then I actually had to clean a couple things myself because it was just that bad. There were a couple times when it started making weird noises and I was a little worried that I wasn’t going to make it back from one of the day trips I took. So, that was my experience with Ace rental unfortunately.

I rented from ACE at ATL. The car smelled like weed, but other than that it was fine. I returned the car, and I asked them to go through the return process with me however they said we've got this, just go to the airport, so I left. I got an email of my receipt about an hour later. I was already in the airport, they had claimed my car was not refilled with gas. I had just filled it up and have the receipt, when I called, they said there was nothing they could do except through email. I was like are you kidding me? I have to prove this now and you're going to charge me 181 extra dollars for a car I already put gas in. I had this car for less than 24 hours. I drove it for 4 hours. It took 9.5 gallons to fill. I called my credit card company and now we are disputing this charge. Anyway, I would highly encourage anyone to find any other company and pay the extra 20 bucks for a reputable rental car company. On 11/6/23, I rented a car from ACE Car Rental in Rosemont IL. This was not a pleasant experience by far. The first car smelled of smoke so bad that I could not sit in it. The second car I drove off the lot with but had to return it within 2 hours because the check engine light came on. The third car was moderately okay. I along with my sister return the car on Thursday November 9th. The Ace Rental Rep checked in the vehicle inside and outside with my sister and I present. No dashboard lights, no dents, or scratches. Everting was check as passing.

On 3/12/24, I received an envelope in the mail from PurCo Fleet Service, stating I owe $2,105.95 for “Wrong Gas” for lost time of vehicle. I called Davin **, claims specialist from the PurCo Company, he proceeded to tell me that the check engine light came on the next day and the vehicle was taken to the dealership and Ace was told that diesel gas was why the check engine light came on. I told Davin that I never put diesel in the car, why would I do that? He asked me if I had the receipts for the gas. I said it is four months later, why would I still have those receipts. I told him they were just trying to swindle money from me. I told him when I checked the vehicle in, there were no lights on the dash, so all of a sudden, the light came on the next day.

I asked Davin had he or anyone tried to contact me about this issue, and he stated yes that he had called me several times. I told him he was a liar, "If you called, why did you not leave a message if you are calling someone to get money." I pulled all my phone records from November 2023 - March of 2024, and I have no calls from PurCo or Ace Rental. My husband also researched and found out that if you are stupid enough (I am NOT) to put diesel in a vehicle, the car will immediately start to act up and shut down. So, tell me how it is possible that I drove over 40 minutes to the Rental Car Agency and had no issue with the car if diesel was in it.

The week before we responded to their email to provide proof of our insurance coverage through a third party verification process and were informed all was set. Once we were on their location and finally able to talk with desk agent he had no knowledge of this verification process. Our options then were to provide a copy of our insurance (insurance card was not sufficient) or buy insurance at the desk $300+. We chose to go elsewhere and they were at least good enough to allow us to ride their shuttle back to JFK. We went to Enterprise onsite and how a most pleasurable experience and were on our way from their desk within 15 minutes. Ace is not an option I would even remotely recommend. Reserved SUV 2mo in advance and paid upfront for the rental, insurance and taxes. Got to the rental center to pickup the car in Las Vegas (off site location btw and I didn't know that either). The rental facility was located in what looked like an abandon parking lot. When I gave them my name and reservation they said they couldn't find it and I would have to pay extra for the SUV I initially reserved. I happened to print out my reservation and had everything with me. After going back and forth with the representative they gave me the SUV but said I would have to pay Liability insurance. I said I have full coverage insurance already and even purchased additional damage protection on my reservation. They refused to give me the vehicle advising I had to purchase the liability insurance.

Unfortunately I already paid $248 upfront and could not leave without a car. This put me in a bad spot (take it or leave it). After agreeing to move forward they provided my receipt and it showed a lower amount than what I had paid upfront ($73 less). I asked why the receipt did not reflect what I already paid on my reservation and they advised it's just an estimate and will balance out when the car is returned. Upon taking possession of the car they took pictures all around it. When I returned the car they took pictures again.

At this time they advised me there was a nail in the right front tire and they had to make a damage report. I told them I wasn't paying for a nail in the tire and that I also bought the insurance anyway. Before I even got to the airport I received an email from ACE with the receipt charging me $660. I immediately called and spoke to the manager. He said $300 of it is a deposit and after they assess the tire they will give me back the difference but I may have to purchase a brand new tire altogether. I went to the pics that they took BEFORE I left the lot with the car. The nail in the tire was already there clear as day. So basically they rented me the car with the nail in the tire and then charged me for it when I returned it.

I've called them, emailed them, put stop payment on my credit card and no one has gotten back to me to resolve it. I have their own pictures to prove it. Not to mention I still do not know what the other additional charges are. They hit my card 4x with different charges that do not make sense. Now I have to pull all the pics, receipts etc and file a dispute through Visa for a stupid 4 day car rental. Complete waste of time, never rent from them ever. Very bad experience with very bad practices. I can't believe a company can get away with this. Also cars are filthy.

The car was returned in the exact same condition as it was when rented; there were no accidents or incidents during the rental period and no need for any incident report to be filled out upon return. When I pulled into the lot, the car was inspected in and out from Adriana C; I asked for a paper receipt and I was told that Final Receipt would be emailed to me shortly and in fact it did. Final Receipt showed my total charges for the rental and it also showed my deposit of $200 coming back to my credit card.

My wife and I left the lot and on our way back home. Two days later, my deposit of $200 was refunded into my credit card and another charge of $200 appeared from ACE-RENT-A-CAR. I contacted ACE RENT A CAR and was told that the $200 charge was for the damage caused to the car windshield. I was also contacted via email from Holly ** of Rockportautoclaims with an estimate of $2031.33 for the damages.

My Final Receipt has a timestamp of 3:11 pm and Adriana C's "Accident Report" has a timestamp of 3:30 pm (after I had left the premises) - also falsely stating that "Customer don't fill out accident report"! Instead of addressing my concerns with courtesy and respect, he resorted to berating me, refusing to finish the transaction, and even turning off his computer before walking away.

She told me that because the car was a premium rental additional insurance was required and I could not get the car without purchasing the additional insurance.

I knew she was lying, just felt it in my gut. I contacted the company and was informed that the additional insurance was not required and sent them the insurance information I showed the agent only to have them tell me because I signed there is nothing they can do. They refused to acknowledge that I was told the insurance was a requirement when it wasn't.

The customer service person I spoke asked me if I was a resident of NY, which I am not, so he said I could ignore the text as it did not apply to me.

When I showed up to pick up the car I was told that these requirements do in fact apply. They wanted a copy of my car insurance policy to show proof of the type of coverage I have. It was 6am EST and I live in Alaska which is 4 hours behind (so, 2 am). I couldn't exactly just call my insurance agent to get them the info they needed. I told them to cancel my reservation then because they did not tell me these requirements until it was too late to do anything about it. But because I paid in advance they refused to refund me. I will never use ACE Rent A Car again. Given all these 1-star reviews with the word "SCAM", I think there is some validity to all these complaints. Read on. I rented from Fort Lauderdale airport and all went well, until I returned the vehicle and saw an unknown charge for $150 listed simply as "rate charge". Of course, as with probably many other customers, I didn't have time to deal with it on the spot as I needed to catch my flight. When I returned home, I called about this charge (a few days later) and I was told that it was for stains on the upholstery. I couldn't believe my ears - what?!

Yes, there were some stains on it when I received the vehicle but hey, it's a rental and this is quite typical. Furthermore, stains are NEVER flagged by any of the big players in this space - it's external damage that one has to worry about. I explained that I was not the cause of that stain but of course, I had no proof of that after I first drove off their lot. I am almost certain that every customer who rents that one vehicle will get hit this bogus cleaning fee - that's the SCAM. $150 per rental in perpetuity. Lastly, the form reads "damage" and the seats were not damaged (as in "torn"). In my opinion, this is just another revenue generator for Ace. NEVER AGAIN.

I booked with Ace rental car July 3-6, 2023, as “dealer's choice” for $65.36. When I went to pick it up, Jonathan, asked how many people I was traveling with. I said 2. He then said the dealer's choice was a pickup truck. I said “that’s fine!” He said “no, because it only has two seats and no luggage space.” He said I couldn't have a car unless I paid a $20 upgrade fee per day. Later, I saw Jonathan lied about the $20/day and actually charged me $25/day. Jonathan also demanded I show him my “round trip airline tickets or incur a fee of $1,000”. When I returned the vehicle, Daniel checked it in. This time, I recorded everything on video.

Daniel said he had photos that the gas was more full when I took it and that I underfilled the gas. I told him that was incorrect, I actually overfilled the gas and had photos to prove it. Then he gaslighted me and said that’s what he meant, that I had overfilled it. I told Daniel about how when Jonathan checked me in, he said the car they picked for me was a two-seater pickup. I pointed out the Dodge Ram on the lot which had four doors (at least four seats) and asked what other trucks they had. He said they also have a Nissan Titian. I asked if you have any smaller trucks and he said no. He said he was sorry that Jonathan lied to me to force me to upgrade. I rented a car for one week from rent a car out of Toronto International Airport/Pearson/ YYZ. I did review their site to see that you had to take the train to get to them, but I thought they would still be with the other car rentals, which they are not. If you think anyone at the airport, can help you find it, they cannot. Our flight was delayed, and unfortunately I was unaware that Ace Rent A Car closed at a ridiculous time. I called the 1-800 number as I was running through the airport and they told me all locations are open 24/7. That sounded suspicious so I found the local number for the facility. They told me they were closing. I will say they stayed open, but they charged me for doing so. I was not the only person that showed up after their closing time, and I know they were also charged.

I was shocked that a car rental company at an international airport had such restrictive opening times, and indeed had to return my car one day early because they did not open early enough for me to be able to drop my car and get to the airport for my flight. And of course I was not refunded for returning the car 24 hours early. I was charged fees for late collection, (because my flight was delayed), crossing the US/Canada border, and because I crossed the border, lost my unlimited miles.

The whole experience was awful and I know I’m not the only one, because when in the office, there was a couple there in tears from all the extra charges, and the person collecting their auto car at the same time as me, was so confused with all the charges. The location is incredibly inconvenient and NOT at the airport, the surcharges and extras are well hidden, the convenience is zero, you will spend at least an hour collecting a car and returning the car, and you better bring all your documentation for your insurance coverage. I booked a car here despite the poor reviews because I assumed most others just didn’t read the fine print and didn’t know that, for instance, you need printed proof of CDW coverage from your credit card to avoid being charged for superfluous insurance. I knew all of this and when I arrived and checked in, everything seemed to go smoothly. I was planning to drive south to West Palm Beach and I didn’t want to have to worry about tolls, so I purchased the ~$60 toll package. Everything was fine. When I returned the car, everything seemed fine. I was ready to leave a positive review.

Later, I get the final bill emailed to me. I see a $75+tax “drop fee.” I assumed it was a mistake, but I looked at my credit card and saw that I was charged this additional fee. I emailed Ace and they said, “Since you rented the car in Orlando and returned it in Tampa, you were charged a drop fee.” The problem? I RETURNED IT TO ORLANDO, the same exact location I rented it from. After a few emails back and forth that got nowhere (just some supervisor telling me that I returned it to Tampa), I’m currently in the process of disputing the charge with my credit card company. I can prove that I was in Orlando, as I flew out an hour after I returned the car, but Ace simply stopped replying to my emails.

ACE now claims that I "left the car in the airport parking lot with the keys under the floor mat on the driver's side." THIS ABSOLUTELY DID NOT HAPPEN. I have proof that shows my location history for the day that shows that I dropped the car off exactly where I was supposed to. I pulled into Ace in Orlando, exactly where I rented the car, and I completed the checkout procedure with the person on duty. When I went to pick up my rental car and they were closed so the next morning I called to see what my options were and the customer service was rude and conformational and when I asked what his name was, he hung up on. Lousy customer service. I will NEVER use them again and oh by the way, I prepaid for my rental. Never got my car.

I would give a lower rating if possible. I don't know why these people are in business. To start, when I picked up my car, it took the FIVE AGENTS working at the time OVER AN HOUR to get me my vehicle, and there was only one other customer at the location... They were not at all busy. Then, when they have me the car, it was not the class that I requested. Finally, when I returned the vehicle the agent told me that he could smell smoke and see ashes. I don't smoke, so naturally I asked to see the ashes. He said he wasn't willing to show me where they were. I then took pictures of every inch of the car and told him I thought this was a clever way for a company to make money. He said he would "do me a favor" and air the car out for a bit before having his manager look at it. I told him not to bother with his "favor" and said I'd call the corporate offices.

I stopped by the desk to speak to the manager, whom I was told was on the way. After waiting for quite some time, I had to leave for fear of missing my flight. I asked for the manager's number. The agents wouldn't give it to me "for security reasons" (they must piss people off a lot). I was assured that the manager would call me, but while I never received a call, I did soon receive an invoice including a $250 charge for "smoke smell" (I guess the fact that I had pictures of every inch of the car many they had to fall back on something totally subjective like smell to justify the charge). Thumbs down, ACE!! Shameful company

I would not recommend Ace rental cars to anyone travelling to Miami, especially with the rental agency at the International Airport (i.e., MIA Rental Center). While my wife and I were waiting in line, the customer ahead of us was already having issues with the agents. Then came our turn, and these were the multiple issues we faced with them:

    1) The agent repeatedly said he would not allow us to rent a car without taking SLI (Supplemental Liability Insurance) stating that it was a requirement. A quick Google search would show you that cars in Florida all have Minimum Liability Insurance coverage and that SLI is optional (it actually said this explicitly in the contract that we received from Ace at the end of our rental). In addition, the SLI costs an additional $20/day which is the most expensive I’ve seen for a rental car so far (We regularly rent cars throughout the US). When pressed, he said it was company policy and that each franchise has its own policies. The agent lied to us as the contract clearly states that SLI insurance is optional.

    2) The agent also effectively refused to rent us a car without purchasing an all-inclusive toll package for $60. We said we had our own toll transponder and would not need to rent one, but he insisted that Ace cars had no way to work with customers’ toll transponders and that would lead to double charges (including fees from the rental car company for having to process these toll charges). According to him we had two options: avoid all toll roads in Miami (nearly impossible) or take his toll package. We had no choice but to take it, but once we picked up the car and checked online how it worked for other car renters, we understood that we could have used our own and that the agent misguided us again.

At the end of the check in process, when we asked how they could effectively require us to add $212 on top of a $155 reservation, the agent's response was, "How do you think we make money?" This was highly unprofessional and fraudulent. We thought we had to share that experience for other customers. Don’t rent from this company.

I would give zero stars if I could. This agency always tell customers that the car you are renting will not make it the mountain (which a front wheel drive SUV with no snow is just fine but my son and many others fall for it anyway) and then they lie about the price of the upgrade to AWD. They said it was $25/day and it was actually $75/day, effectively doubling the price of the entire rental. They also did not fully credit the prepaid voucher because they said Discover Cars (the third party) takes a cut, which is not true and not disclosed in any Discover Cars documentation. It's like saying that because you are using a Priceline prepaid voucher, they can't honor the entire prepaid amount because secretly Priceline is lying to you. I should have checked more review sites, because apparently, ACE has a large number of victims. Very rude customer service when I called to question the bill. I will never rent from ACE again.

I reserved a car online with ACE. I read the agreement concerning insurance requirements and my Allstate policy. After arriving at LAX ACE car rental location, the agent asked to see my insurance. I showed my Allstate card from my phone. He told me they do not accept Allstate insurance because it is prepaid (All insurance is prepaid) and I could cancel it anytime (all insurance can be cancelled at any time). I was forced to buy their insurance for $30 a day if I wanted the car. The agreements indicates you need to show proof of insurance which I did. I called ACE customer service, I was told I would have to drive back to LAX to resolve. I refused since it is 2.5 hour drive each way. ACE in the end refused to give me a refund of the insurance costs that I didn't need after disputing the credit card charge. DON'T USE ACE - prices may be cheap but in the end it was more expensive.

I rented in LAX. My reservations was for 4 days and it did not mention anything about proof of liability. Everyone in line was caught off guard and busy calling their insurance agent. It took about 45 minutes for each customer. So ended up have to pay for this in order to rent. Other major rental agency (Avis) allow you to decline coverage and state that "you are fully responsible". They did not allow this. Also, if you are picking up 2 hours early even though you will return 2 hours earlier that did not matter. They will charge for this. In conclusion, my opinion is that they bullies travelers to make a few extra dollars.
