Never go to Costco Tire Center if you are not tire expert! They recommended and installed lower load index tire in 2017. My tire was blow out 3 times within 4 months due to a pothole on a highway (around 70 miles/hour) and my all wheels were bent. While I got a Costco road hazard warranty service 3 times, they did not notice it! Finally, they found their mistake in April 2018. So, I claimed fee of wrong tires, 3 times previous warranty installation, and fee of new wheels. Costco accepted new tire cost only.
Costco and Gallagher Bassett, which is Costco's claim third party company, denied my claim with ridiculous answers. They mentioned there is no relationship between lower tire load index and flat tire due to pothole on highway (driving speed was around 70 miles/hour). I believe there should be a relationship. Otherwise, why did OEM and manufacturer establish a tire load index, which is tire load carrying capacity? Money does not matter, I want justice! I am considering a class action or small claim. It will be a long long fight. So, if you are not a tire expert, NEVER go to Costco.

Today I had the worst experience at Costco Tire in Plano. I took my car there and as the tires were worn out after 38K miles (warranty was 80K) I was supposed to get the warranty credit, I was given so much hassle and was told that I will not even get the 4th tire replaced on discounted warranty price because it still had a very little thread left before it qualifies. I said let's do 3 then, well then we can't give you a warranty on the new three. OK, but before we go to that point I was challenged that I did not maintain the tires (rotation record) was not up to date, the first one was missing as I got that one done at the dealership, the last 3 were done at Costco but since I did not have the very first one after I replaced at Costco I could not prove that I did it.
I had to call the dealership and had it faxed to them, the funny thing is it was all in the hands of that individual CJ, just looked at it and said, "Oh ok so you did it." As if I was lying, unnecessarily he gave me trouble. I brought to him my last wheel alignment, but what about the one from 2 years ago? "You have to do an alignment every year." I said I did (I have a lifetime alignment deal with Firestone), then I had to get an email from Firestone. Again he really didn't care, all he wanted was to discourage me and make things difficult for me, never had an experience like that at Costco. Discount Tire guys are the best, only got warranty credit for three tires. Lost $110 for a person who just didn't like my face I guess. Wish I would have never bought them from Costco.

Finally, they took a look and fixed the other tire as well. I was pissed off when I was on the phone but they resolved the issue kindly so I would like to close the issue.

I bought winter tires at Costco since I trust Costco brand and I have been a member for a long time. However I was surprised when I deal with tires. I noticed air is leaking on two tires so I ask them to check them out. Luckily they fixed one of tires for free. After a few days I noticed one of checked tire is almost flat so I called the service center and then they asked me to bring the car. So I said I can't drive the car since it is flat and he told me to use the spare tire and bring it to them. So I replaced it with spare one. I called next day to book the appointment and the guy told me to bring a tire only. What? How can I bring a tire without the car? He also asked me to come earlier since all day is already booked. So I came early around 9:20am and another guy said it opens at 10am so I had to wait outside in the cold weather. This location is in Dundas and Winster Churchill area. What a shame Costco!

Stay away from COSTCO!!! If I could give ZERO stars I would. They have caused numerous problems since I got the tires put on my truck last year. The tires are great... the service they promise after the sale is TERRIBLE! The mechanics are inexperienced and rude. They keep you waiting for HOURS to get the service done, while other customers who are paying for tires are taken ahead of you. They kept me waiting for almost 3 hours once to repair a tire with a screw in it. Then, when I get home we find the screw is still in the tire! They never even did the service I requested! Then when I took it to another mechanic he tells me that my lug is cracked from being over tightened.
Costco employees refused to accept the blame a had the nerve to say they NEVER TOUCHED MY VEHICLE! Obviously they did. Last week when I went there to have the tires rotated and balanced, they forgot to put my tire key back in the truck and I had to drive an hour and a half back to get it... Then when I get there, there is no one at the counter and I was left waiting... and waiting. When someone FINALLY comes out to talk to me, he has no idea where the key is... and has the nerve to say I was rude because I explained to him that I was in a hurry to get to work. NEVER will I go back. And I will get my current COSTCO tires serviced somewhere else from now on.

Terrible! The Pleasant Prairie Wisconsin location is slow as can be. We purchased 4 tires online and expected tire professionals to be able to simply install them. They told us that there was a 3-4 hour backlog. I'm here checking in after 5 1/2 hours and they say it's still 30 to 40 mins. What a joke. Never. Never again. They need to hire professionals that can work at a decent pace. Not these lowly paid kids that have no idea what they're doing. The inconvenience is not worth the money saved. Never again. Costco is a joke!

Bought the set of 4 tires online Costco.com. They clearly said, "Whenever the tires arrives to warehouse, we'll call you for installation." NOT TRUE. They never called, after 3 weeks I had to go myself. Installation was a nightmare, until today after one month, they couldn't do it right. Horrible.

Sent me out the door with 10/32 difference between front and back tires (I bought two new tires) 8/32 left on the two tires I kept. Not a word said about the difference in tread depth. I ran into slick roads. Put it in 4 wheel drive. Lost my front diff in 90 miles. A little over $4000 I am back on the road again. Costco just backpedalled and claimed A lot of things that were not said. So be aware. They are just selling tires. I will never be back. I need a company that watches my back and takes care of me.

Recently had Costco in Sudbury, ON install (4) new Michelin X-Ice snow tires on my 2012 Chrysler 200. They had broken wheel nuts, and stripped (3) studs on the one rear tire, and could not repair this problem, and had to pay my own mechanic $160.00 to repair their mistakes! They had no training or proper tools to adequately remove the wheel nuts, e.g. high torque air/electric impact tool, did not use penetrating oil, had no torches to heat the wheel nuts to remove instead of breaking them!

I am extremely disappointed today in Costco's Tire Center in Lehi. I purchased a set of 4 tires 2 years ago for my 4-Runner and the other day I hit some debris on the highway that blows out one of my tires to the point of not being able to repair. I went into my Costco today under the assumption that while I was still under the warranty of the tires that I would have to replace them at a prorated price. They told me however that although I bought them as a set and would have to buy 4 new tires as a set (they will not sell you just one tire for a 4 wheel drive vehicle). They do not honor their warranty as a set. They will only cover the damaged tire.
So even though the other 3 tires have another year or more left on them they say that I have to throw them out and buy brand new with no compensation just because one tire was bad. What is the point of a hazard warranty after 1 year if they're going to make you pay full price for the other three good tires? Even when they do say they will cover the one damaged tire they will not combine it with any other discounts which turns out are cheaper than the warranty coverage. I left the tire center frustrated and feeling duped into a warranty that was worthless. I did not buy any tires today, since I have to basically buy brand new tires I will shop around and find someone that has a better warranty and service. You failed me today Costco, you have one very unsatisfied customer that will more than likely never buy tires from you again and will be telling many of my friends my story.

First time purchase of tires at Costco - Extremely poor service. Can never reach them over the phone. Long waits at service counter, poor managing of appointments. Was told my car wouldn't be ready for 5 hours even showing up for my appointment 15 minutes early. Save time and money and go elsewhere. Will try to get a refund and seek service elsewhere.

I am a Costco member. Today I came to Costco located at corner Dallas Pkwy and Eldorado Pkwy in Frisco Texas to get the rear new tires in for my vehicle 2005 Mercedes S500. Its cost $510.77. When the job done and I drove back home I hear some noise in the rear side, it's not normal. I came back to the shop and notify to tech about that issue and found out they make 1 of lug bolt broken.
It seem like they did not accept that fault, they ask me go to dealer or another shop to fix that and bring back the receipt for reimburse. I am really not satisfied with this service and the way they resolved the problem at this store. I think Costco need to change the manager of this tire center and all technician need to be re-training for how to handle the job they did. I promise I never come back to this store again and just notify to all customer and neighbor in Frisco and Little Elm area have to pay attention when bringing your vehicle to this Tire Center to change your tires if you don't want to get a trouble like me.

I had 4 new tires installed by the New Berlin, WI Costco. While they were being installed I watched the tire technician take one of my tires which has an expensive polished aluminum wheel, place the face of the wheel directly on the concrete floor and pull off the wheel weights. The air was out of the tire so the wheel was loose in the tire and when he flipped on to the concrete floor it definitely made contact. I immediately pointed it to the service manager who indicated that this is not their normal procedure and he would discuss it with the tech. I said I was concerned about damage to the wheel and would inspect it as soon as the installation was complete.
The wheel was damaged and I took the manager out to see the damage. He had me fill out a claim report and ultimately the claim was denied for lack of "conclusive evidence." My suggestion is this, if you do have COSTCO install tires on your car, take the manager out and inspect each wheel before and after the installation. This way if they damage your wheels there will be no question was to when it happened. Otherwise, they will not admit to the damage.

I am a long time Costco member and recently became an executive member. For years I have never had a problem getting new tires prorated because the tires didn't last as long as the warranty. Last fall I brought in my Sedan to Costco tires in Pleasant Prairie, WI. My tires were very low on tread and I wanted new tires prorated. The tech told me he was going to do that for me but his boss stopped him. His boss came and said my tire tread was not below 2/32. He said it was at 5/32 which was not true. So I left mad and ended up coming right back.
I got another tech there to check the tread and he said it was 4/32. So I just left and thought I'll drive the car more and wear down the tires even more. The next summer I brought it back in again and the tech said I need new tires. I said ok but I want them prorated. He said he'd have to check with his boss. The boss came out and gave me the same spiel. "Your tread isn't low enough." I've never had a problem with this before, but after seeing all the bad reviews about Costco tires I will never buy tires there again. What's the purpose of being an executive member if they are going to treat you like that?

On 8/15/14, we purchased 4 65K Tires (Item #596085) from Costco. Our car had 100,816 miles on it. Yesterday, in preparation to send the car off to Seattle with my college age children for them to use while away at school, I had the car looked over by our mechanic. Our mechanic mentioned that the car was in good shape except for the 2 front tires which were at 1/32. Our odometer is now only at 130,195. Therefore, I took the car to the 48th Ave. Hillsboro Costco yesterday for a 6pm appt (which still took 2 hrs), and was told that they would only rotate the tires and would not replace or give us any credit.
This morning, I took the car to an independent tire specialist who confirmed that they needed to be replaced. Today, I took the car back to Costco; the Aloha one, and Shane the manager looked at the tires. He said, that it was due to an alignment issue and therefore they would do nothing for us. I said we have brought the car into them, and they have rotated the tires; he looked at the computer and confirmed, but said that this was an alignment issue and he would do nothing for us. The car IS aligned and this is not the problem.
He then started typing and looked up and said he could sell me 4 brand new tires for $568. I waited expecting him to say and "we will credit you" and when he didn't I asked about a credit. He said not credit would be offer because the issue is clearly due to the car being out of alignment. It was an insult for to be quoted for 4 new tires when the tires I originally purchased only had 30K on them. I will not be back to Costco for tires. This is not the kind of service I expect. I am very disappointed in Costco. Their warranty is worthless and Shane was worthless.

Bought tires for my son when he visited from NY. I live in NC. Bought 4 tires at Costco in NC on 7/1917. He went back to NY and on 9/2/17 he got a flat tire. He contacted Costco in Nanuet NY. The tires are supposed to have a 70,000-mile warranty. They told him they couldn't help him because the tires were in my name and I have to be there. Had I known I never would have bought them in NC. I guess they didn't want to lose the sale. Why would I buy them in NC if I have to be in NY for the warranty. He had to go to another tire store and spend $150 for a new one. Is this really the company you want to deal with? I have been a member of Costco for years. I will never deal with Costco again. I will now will be spending my hard earned money at "SAM'S CLUB".

Absolutely AWFUL experience at 205 Vineyard Rd, Edison NJ 08817. I will NEVER do business with Costco again. This the second time for my second car they did the same. Technician told me that wait time 2 1/2 hrs. After 1 1/2 he call me and told they can't remove the Tire nuts. I have to take to mechanic and remove them and put new nuts. They sold me all 20 nuts, I went to my mechanic. He had no trouble removing them and replacing them. Next day I went back to the Costco replace the tires. This time the wait time they told 21/2 hrs. After 2 hrs they called me told that I need to replace one sensor. I told them go ahead and replace. After 2 1/2 as they did not call me I went. They told another sensor bad but I do not need to replace them but the tire warranty won't cover them. This time I notice they are doing the same for the customers in front me. I think this a pattern they using on most of the customers.
After completing the work they just give only one of the sensor empty box with the forms to complete and mail them later to get the warranty cover for the sensor. When I bring the form and try to complete them It requires new part identification number and the old part that was replaced identification number. When I went to Costco and asked them they can't provide them. The question here I am not sure if they replaced them or not?

Absolutely AWFUL experience at St. James location in Winnipeg. I will NEVER do business with Costco again. It all begun with a small low leak about 3 weeks ago, which I took to Costco to repair due to the warranty on tires. Everything was fine. 2 days later, the leak begins again in the same tire. We took it back. The people could not tell us if this was another puncture or the same one as there was "no notes on file" from the mechanic and he had gone home.
About a week after that, the low tire pressure light comes on again. SAME TIRE. My mother and I went (both females) as my Dad couldn't get the day off work and I was scheduled to work 2 hours away that weekend. This mechanic with NO customer service skills tells me that my car is basically a junk and needed TONS of work. Including 4 BRAND NEW tires, a wheel alignment and new shocks. I told him that was not possible, I just had my car repaired in April (its June) and they told me my struts may need work in about a year but everything else was fine. He told me my car was rubbing the insides of my tires bald because of a bad wheel alignment and my shocks were gone. Like I wouldn't know if my shocks were gone??? He was so pushy and insisted that I may even need to look for a new car at this point due the repairs.
He told me the garage I used was obviously not very good and I should consider HIS recommendation a place down the street which specializes in tire issues. He told me it was unsafe to drive and quoted me new tire prices over $800 and while I said I needed to discuss this with my parents - he called the company to confirm the order! Not only did I walk out of there empty handed. I went off to two other mechanics. They had an absolute laughing fit that my car was in shambles. It was absolutely fine and did not even need a wheel alignment. My struts and shocks were great. No serious issues on the horizon. They said I could buy new tires if I wished but the amount of wear I had was absolutely normal. They both agreed that I was 100% being scammed. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. SHAME ON YOU FOR TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WOMEN THINKING WE DIDN'T KNOW ANY BETTER.

I bought 4 brand new Dueler H/L Alenza Luxury SUV Tires at 160.00 per tire excluding taxes that were advertised with a 65,000 mile warranty. A few years later and 31,000 miles on these tires, it has now become necessary to replace due to low tread. I am very, very disappointed to have paid this price only to experience under normal wear, use and maintenance (maintaining good air pressure/rotations) these tires not even lasting half the advertised warranty. This problem is what lead me to look into Costco reviews and, sadly, learn of the multitudes of others whom have suffered a similar fate. Initially I thought I had a good case for a significant pro-rate when reluctantly buying another new set of new tires there. But now, after reading through these complaints, I am convinced it will be a big waste of my time to even try talking reasonably with staff at this establishment.
I have decided to go to a smaller, regional tire store that does tires only. What makes this particularly difficult is the fact that my family and I have had nothing but very good experiences on the food and consumer products side of Costco. How can a store that does so remarkably well with regular consumer dry goods and fresh food and produce fail so miserably in their tire store??? Sad, sad story. Maybe someday the whizzes behind the regular store will commit to completely revamping the tire store to become more consistent with the remaining operation. I highly recommend you stay away from Costco Tires - at least until significant change takes place there.

Since it was lunch time I decided to meet her there for a Polish dog. I arrived at around 12:30 (SUV still sitting outside in the parking area), Had a Polish, sat down and talked.
AT 1:00, I looked in the garage and the SUV still not there. I had to get back to work so I left. And 2:15 my wife calls me and asked me what was supposed to have been done because in the 2 hours they had only put one new tire on. Of course they said "oh we could go ahead and balance the tires and do them but there would be another hour or two wait time"?? WHAT?? Not only that, they said it was against COSTCO's rules to put a single new tire on the front of a vehicle so they could only rotate one side. Long story short. After purchasing four new tires and install from the Fort Collins Colorado Costco Tire Center, I went home later the same day and power washed my car. I noticed the installers had chipped three out of four rims on my vehicle. Quick overview - horrible service throughout and dangerously over inflated tire that I found even after the 25 mile check was performed. I contacted a store at Warden and was told they had the tires I want but they couldn't hold them. I drove in to be told they couldn't fit me in and to come back the next day, 45 minutes before the store opened. There was no signage about lining up which meant there were two lines of people who thought they were "the" line - this led to a lot of shouting.
I ended up at position 10 after being the sixth to arrive. We were then told, on entry, that they had only 13 slots. How can that be when they say they don't take appointments - this was clearly a lie as I heard them taking appointments while waiting. They would not call me to tell me the work was done so I spent 25 minutes calling trying to find out.
This is nuts and I'll certainly never go again but try it yourself. A sign about where to line up would be simple. Even numbers issued when you wave or enter your card. A call when the work is done. It would be simple to handle this in a considerate way. The final straw was that even after having the 40 km (25 mile) torque check I found that three tires were perfect but one was at 60 PSI when it should have been 32.5 PSI and the maximum rated was 40 PSI. This is their business and they can't avoid delivering a dangerously over-inflated tire!!!

I came to Costco tire shop for all terrain tires for my Ford Explorer 4wd 96 XLT on Maui. I've been a loyal executive member for over 20 years. I called ahead and confirmed they had BF Goodrich T A Ko2 tires for my 96 4wd Ford Explorer. I live up a rugged 2 mile long dirt road and the last 2/10s of mile up a 4WD road. All Terrain Off road tires are a must for my lifestyle. I bought the Ford Explorer last year and there was sufficient tread on the Michelins which came with it. I knew I'd need to upgrade to AT tires at some point.
I went to Costco today after double checking the TA KO2 were in stock. Dave at the desk said, "Which Ford Explorer 96 do you have?" And I confirmed it was a 4wd XLT. No problem. They gave me a great price for four with a $50 instant rebate from BF Goodrich. I gave Dave my Costco City C card and they took my money no problem.
Then while I was in the store my cell phone rang. The tire shop told me, "No no. We cannot install to your Ford Explorer because All Terrain tires are not allowed on this vehicle." What? These are the exact size as the Michelin 235 75 R15. This is a 4wd light truck. They said there is a rollover risk. How could AT light truck tires be unsafe? If anything they would be safer. So after 20 years Costco tire shop forced me to spend $300 more at an off road shop in Kahului. I'm really disappointed in Costco Tires on Maui. However I have the TA Ko2 installed on my 96 Explorer XLT now. But why on Earth would they treat me like that after all these years? I must have AT tires on my 4wd. This was so stupid.

When the car was getting picked up my mom noticed that right side back door the bottom panel was falling off so she went to talk to the manager Derrick ** and filed the report. After that time I was waiting for someone to call me, but what do you think... I don't get any callback, so I called the warehouse a couple of times and I was told you have to wait because they have to follow the correct procedure. So, finally I got the call from Mike ** who told me that: "I looked through surveillance and nothing happened".
Since when do they have surveillance installed under the cars? I'm not stupid. I know they don't want to take a blame, but the car was brought in the perfect condition but left with need to be fixed. So not only that Mark ** told that they are not going to fix it but he told me that I did it to the car and wanted to blame it on them. They should be ashamed of themselves. My car was fixed in the body shop and when I was getting an estimate the guy said to me: Did the car slipped on the lifter? So then I told him the story and he said that for sure is right. Went to Costco in Moreno Valley, CA today to have a tire repaired due to a short screw causing it to leak. I had a couple of hours before work and figured it would be no problem. My TPMS showed 10psi after sitting overnight so I inflated the tire before going to Costco. When I got there the counter person told me that it would take 3 1/2 to 4 hours to repair the tire. There is no way that I could wait that long so I declined and left. I can understand a wait if I was purchasing a set of tires, however this was an emergency repair so I could get to work. I returned home and stuck a plug in the screw hole. I have purchased my last 2 sets of tires from Costco and when I had a flat in Ft. Collins, CO the Costco there had me in and out while I shopped. Moreno Valley Costco needs to figure out their customer service. I will think twice before buying another set of tires from them.

Costco's road hazard warranty has become a scam. Should your tire become damaged and need a plug, Costco claims to replace it or repair it, unless another mechanic or consumer has tried to effect such repair. Reasonable, but when your vehicle has no spare - as most new vehicles do (inflator pump and tire seal replaced spare tires as it reduces cost and vehicle weight), no other option outside of leaving vehicle in street or paying for tow to Costco, possibly long distance away. In these cases you cannot collect on your warranty because you have to repair tire to get to Costco.
I did this with a flat tire 20 miles from Costco and not in a safe location. A very large object implanted itself in my tire. The best I could do was accept help from a machine shop who lent me a repair kit. The hole was too big to make permanent repair, this was confirmed by Costco who would not cover the damage or replace the tire because someone other than they had touched it. They were more than happy to sell me a new tire with the same unusable warranty. I took my business elsewhere and will not spend the $25,536 I spent there last year. Hope the $75.00 was worth it Costco.

I knew he was not right so I said, "Ok I'm not prepared to buy tires right now but how come nobody told me when they swapped the regular tires? Probably by now I'll be prepared." He said, "We don't have to."
So next day April 22, 2017 I sat three hours at Les Schwab and they did it! No bad news. I asked Mike the guy who did it if I had any problem with my tires? He said "No!" I asked if I need to align the tires he said, "No, your tires are even and in good condition." Maybe because I'm a woman Costco tire department tried to sell me tires I don't need? Assuming I don't know anything about cars and tires? Watch out women!!! Shame on Costco tire department.

I bought 4 summer tires from Costco. ca and was very disappointed on the service received. 1st the technician was unable to remove the nuts with his impact tool. I own an Acadia and the torque is 140 (base on my owner's manual. So he started to use a hammer to hit his socket on the nuts to lose it up. Once removed he would throw it on the ground and hit again to remove the nuts from the socket.
After he damaged 4 of the nuts he told me that he cannot remove the others because they were too tight. So when I told him to only put the tires on the spare rims and I would installed them myself he went around and tighten all wheels again (he just told me they were too tight...). I did it myself at home after having to buy 4 new nuts in 40 minutes. I had no problem removing the remainder of the nut using the tool provided by the car. I spent 2.5 hrs at Costco waiting and all they could do was damaging my nuts and eventually install the tires on the other spare rims.

After nearly 3 hours, they told me the tire was unrepairable, and that I needed 4 new tires, costing over $720. This is an all wheel drive which requires run-flats by Bridgestone. However, in addition to being dishonest about the condition of my tires before making a major cross-country trip, I learned that you can't trust Costco when I tried to talk to them about my tire purchase. The information they gave me was a DIRECT CONFLICT with the information from Michelin and other tire sellers. Michelin offered to help me make Costco do right by me, but I shouldn't have to make all the extra calls and have someone else go to bat for me. I felt very condescended to by Costco, and have not used their auto services at all since. They even tried to give me a hard time about a wheel balance that came as part of the tire warranty, saying I had to go back to the Costco on the other side of the border. Buyer, definitely beware of Costco Auto.

Costco, at least at the store near us (St. James St., Winnipeg) has added a new con. When I went to have them remove my winter tires (bought from this Costco) and replace them, they refused. This is after waiting for two hours after my (early) arrival for my appointment. They had previously swapped these exact same tires seven times. Now, because the summer tires were of two different brands (same size and type, of course), they told me that I would have to buy two new tires. (Fortunately, I do not have 4WD or I would have had to buy 4). Never mentioned this before, although the tires were all the same as previously. I had wondered why the swapping procedure was so cheap there. Now I know.

One year ago I had 4 vehicles with 8 sets of tires, all from Costco. The issues started when the tire center ordered and placed pressure sensors on a new set of wheels for a VW Passat. Only later did I find out that the $200 investment was not needed, as VW senses by rotation not though a tire-mounted sensor, lesson was go to the dealer. Then the real mess with tire warranty began. I took a truck with bald rear tires in for the fourth time on warranty. Each time prior I was told there was too much tread to replace on warranty but not enough tread to allow for rotation. The battle with the manager that insisted my warranty was void because I did not have them rotated was partly solved when one of the workers who remembered me coming in to get them rotated but not allowing due to low tread informed the manager that it was against their policy to rotate tire with low tread wear.
The result is that the manager honored the warranty for the Michelin tires, but would only offer a low grade tire with no warranty... No choice take it or leave it. Three months later I bring in my daughter's car with a tire leaking to get it repaired. I asked the attendant to inspect the tires because even though they were 60,000 mile warranty Michelin tires the wear was excessive. He agreed that they could repair the tires but not rotated due to tread wear. Three hours later when I pick up the car the leak was NOT repaired and I was told they would not work on the tires because of low tread. So I suggested we look at the warranty and replace the tires... My records had between 28,000 and 31,000 miles as I switch with winter tires and record mileage each time. They look up the tires and WOOPS they forgot to record the care mileage on installation, hence no warranty due to their negligence.
I left the car center vowing never to set foot in the department again. I now buy all tires from Discount Tires, they are pleasant, professional and my wait time is 20 minutes instead of 2-3 hours. I must question why the Costco store reputation in Pocatello Idaho has to suffer due to a tire department that is incompetent, dishonest, and pulls the customer view of the store down dramatically. I am so pleased I left, and have talked to many other ex-customers who have the same opinion. The department is managed by dishonest people.... Really I love the stance that they are not allowed by law to rotate tires with low tread, but they can't replace them on warranty, and then they can't honor warranty due to lack of rotation... CROOKS ARE IN CHARGE. Shut them down and rebuild your reputation.

I waited and called again and again, with no answer all day long. At about 4:00 pm James finally answered the phone. I asked if he had the tires I needed and in a very frantic way he said "yes we do but we aren't taking anymore orders today." I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said "I am a supervisor" as if I shouldn't argue with him because of him being a supervisor and ended the call abruptly.
I called the administration office and asked to speak to a supervisor who was in charge of the tire center. Juan got on the phone and when I told him my situation he said "ok hold on." I went back on hold for another 10 minutes. Then finally got the same answer as before on the tires as if customers are really a burden to Costco employees. The last day of the sale for the tires I wanted was today, so now I will have to buy them somewhere else because of your supervisors lazy, worthless attitudes. Without apologizing for the issue, they just told me to have it repaired somewhere else and bring them my receipt. This stupid installer seemed to indicate that him snapping the lug bolt off was my fault because someone in the past had put a lubricant on the lug. Then I went outside to pick my car up and the new tires had green paint all over them and were very dirty. I am very displeased with this treatment. I purchased a set of Michelin tires a year ago with a 60,000 mile tread-wear warranty, but at 1 year and 18,000 miles they are at 2/32". Costco refuses to warranty the tread-wear as they were able to measure 3/32 in a couple locations, but the majority of depths are at 2/32" or less! I am greatly concerned that my family is driving in California's wettest winter in many years on 2/32" tread!! When I complained, the tire manager admitted that other people have complained about the same thing, but tried to say that they did not do the damage. They let me file a complaint, and some lying creep who called himself an adjuster said that my wheels were already damaged. Totally NOT true - they were in great condition before Costco chewed them up.
So I went on-line to see if other people had the same experience and I discover that hundreds, if not thousands, of other people had the same experience. Someone needs to start a class action lawsuit over what Costco is doing. They are using some sort of mechanical device that evidently does not work properly to remove the balancing weights. Asked them to please mount tire on rim regardless and they refused. Left my trailer in Costco parking lot and headed to Pep Boys. They had a tire mounted in 30 minutes. Drove back to Costco and put new tire in front of Store.
Second time I got new tires for my car. After 4 hour wait time I ran out of time for tires left and came back following day. Same wait time but I got my tires. With less than 15k miles picked up nail, pulled over and changed tire. Called Costco. Said they would repair for free. Instructed after 4 hour wait they could not repair tire because belt was damaged. They could not repair because it would be unsafe, they would not replace because it was not covered under warranty. Nor could they match the tire... Now I am heading out on 12 hour road trip on my spare. Talk about unsafe??? Spent 16 hours getting 4 tires, 4 hours per tire. Plano Texas, November 23, 2016, Thanksgiving eve., visiting relatives. Home is in Southeast Missouri. Blew out two passenger side tires. Had car towed to Costco on advice of relatives. It was close to where we were parked. COSTCO put on 4 brand new tires. Did not tell us that the two remaining good tires could be used. They were less than 1 year old. Subsequently was told by other tire businesses that only needed two new tires because they only had to match on the axles. 2012 Subaru Outback, AWD which Costco said made it necessary to put on 4 brand new tires which turned out to be a questionable statement.
Installed Michelin Defender XT. Turned out that XT is REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT. Charged $14 per tire to put in nitrogen, which they didn't ask if we wanted it or not. Not sure they even did that because we were later informed that if nitrogen is put in tires there are green valve covers put on. They were not there. Charged us to dispose of 4 tires. Guess they considered putting the two good tires we had left in the trunk a disposal. XT indicates it is a "club" tires which Michelin makes only for Costco, Sam's Club, and TJ's, wherever that is.
Rode back home to Southeast Missouri, 11 hours. Had to make 4 stops. I have back issues and those tires make my wonderful Subaru, which originally rode like a cloud ride like a log wagon. IT WAS AWFUL. Road noise, bumpy, bouncy. Now here's where the XT comes into play. Turns out that no other Michelin tire seller (also there's a complicated hierarchy of tire dealer, tire retailer, and one other segment I can't recall, would honor the warranty because it is a Club tire. Not even the other clubs will honor the warranty. Oh, by the way, we have no Costco closer than 2.5 hours away from us. Turns out that wonderful 30 day 100 percent guaranteed satisfaction has a lot of asterisks, loopholes and if you don't go back to Costco. Will never ever be a Costco customer again. I said, "Ok. I will be in the store and wait." Before they started working on my car (it was still parked in the parking lot), I asked them to change to another set of tires. There was no problem with that.
[3:30 pm] But the tragedy starts here. I waited and waited for hours until I went back to the counter at 3:30 p.m. to ask whether the job was done. The staff said my car was already in the workshop, so the job should start soon. Thirty (30) minutes later, I walked out to the parking lot to check, to find my car still parked where I had parked this morning. It was apparent that no job had been done on my tire.
[4:00 p.m.] My car was actually pulled over in their workshop after that. It was nearly 4:00 p.m. I looked in the workshop, but there was nobody working there as if everyone was having a lunch break or something. As far as I observed them for some hours, their job didn't seem to last. A few steps were taken on a car, and the staff is gone somewhere. There was nobody around. It was a quietness of lunch break again. Some other staff came in, and removed one or two tires, but not all four. Then he disappeared.
[5:00 p.m.] At 5:15 pm, having felt anxious, I asked one of the staffs whether the tire replacement job would really be done today. He said it'd be finished in 15 or 25 minutes. I waited there 30 minutes from there, but they didn't get the job done. [Past 6:00 p.m.] It was well over 6 p.m. when they finished the tire replacement on my car. I spent 8 hours here at Costco Tire Center. There is no other store or coffee shop to kill my time around this vicinity. It was a very cold winter day. Appointments are difficult to arrange, so I waited 1-1/2 to 2 hours both times. They work strictly first come first served, so a repair, rotation, or rebalance will take the same time - not satisfactory. But Costco apparently does not care because complaints have been written about that for years. My experience suggests the quality of the Michelin and Bridgestone tires I purchased is not the same as those purchased elsewhere. Some of the tires installed on one vehicle required in excess of 6 ounces of weight to balance; whereas the tires removed had required only a couple of ounces. No bent wheel or other anomaly detected.
The Michelin's installed on the other vehicle do not run as smooth as the Michelin's that were removed (those were bought elsewhere). There is a slight jiggle at high speeds. This experience makes me wonder if the tire manufacturers are selling product that is at the borderline within spec. to Costco for cheap, while they are sending their best quality product to their tire dealers??? I do appreciate being able to order online and see the actual price; no games. I also appreciate that Costco will take the tires back if you are not satisfied. I All wheel is lock and need the key. (I am a lady which no idea about what this Costco folk talk about). I was in San Francisco. After lunch, I pick up my car and manage to find a friend who is a mechanic to unlock my car wheel. Costco told me that they have cancel my order so if I need the service again, I need to start from beginning. Within 20 minutes, I bring my car back to Costco to continue the service.
They are close at 6 pm and I personally at the counter around 5 pm. The customer service lady is very nice and said they are no longer accept any car and will spoke to her supervisor, James. He said no! No more car service!! My wheels are all unlock and it is so unsafe to drive around!!! Since I have dropped the car in the morning, why he reject the service!!! This is my complaint!!

With great regret I am writing this. On Feb 14th 2016 I bought 4 set of Michelin tyres from Costco on 14th June 2016. After picking my kids from school I went bit close to the curb. After 1 km the tyre got punctured. If this was a quality tyre this would not have been happened. This was my first experience buying Michelin tyres. After buying the new tyres it has done only 4544 kms (In Feb 78393, now 82937). I went to Costco tyre centre explaining what happened but they said they can't do anything about this because it has happened in the edge of the tyres. They are just asking me to buy another one. I would like to know whether there isn't any km warranty for the tyres. Is there any way to get some help about this?

I am a executive member of Costco and have been going there over a decade. It is awesome store but not the tire center. I trusted their words at least 2 times when I went there to fix tire flat. Every time when I go there they always tell that it can't be fixed because of safety measure. They tell you that you will have to buy a new tires. I trusted and bought tires 2 times. Today I went there for tire rotation to Edison Costco tire center and found out that there is a small nail. Now they say it can't be fixed and have to buy new tires. They have not run more than 10K. This is ridiculous. Every time you go there they do not give you a choice of fixing the issue, recommend you to buy new tires. It happened so many time, they never fixed it a single time. I will never ever recommend you to go this place.

I have a brand new set of the Michelin Defender LTX's in 265/70R16 on my SUV. Costco returned the car to me with three of the four tires out of round, as indicated by excessive balance weight. One has 6.5 oz, one has 5.5 oz, one has 5.0 oz, and the 4th has 3.5 oz. Apparently, Michelin has a quality issue with this tire, and it is most unfortunate this has replaced the reliable and popular LTX M/S2 and Latitude tires. The Defenders replaced a set of Costco-only Michelin LT A/S that were returned under the 30 day satisfaction warranty because they have horrible road noise at freeway speeds. This is very disappointing and a downhill departure from the trouble-free experiences I've had with Michelin in the past. The Costco Tire Department tries to please, but each visit is a 3 hour ordeal; they are busy all the time, their paperwork process is inefficient, and they are understaffed at the service desk.

I purchased tires which so far are fine. I had an appointment and it still took 3 hours to get tires on because they said they ran into a problem with the sensors on the rims which turn on a light on the dash if there is a tire problem. The next day, the light on the dash came on showing that there was a tire problem. It went off after a day or two and then came back on a few days later. When I took the truck back to Costco, they said the work was not in the computer (how can that be?). Then they told me that the light was on when I originally brought the truck in for the tires, which is not true. They said I would have to take the truck to the Ford dealer since it was not their problem. I asked them to at least check the air in the tire, which was actually nitrogen. They added nitrogen and the light has not come back on. Why couldn't they have just checked that without all the hassle and essentially calling me a liar? I won't be back there for tires.

We have been long time members of Costco and very happy with the overall service provided. However, the way the tire centres are run is such a shame and an insult to the value of my precious time. After buying tires through online Costco I now find myself trapped in the insanely dysfunctional first come first serve appointment system (which should be clearly indicated online when purchasing tires). This appointment system requires that I practically take a day off to maybe get my tires changed if I am lucky enough to win the "first come first serve" lottery of the day. This is a mega waste of time and I feel deeply insulted and disrespected that my time is misused in such a way. I would take my tires somewhere else if it did not void the warranty. I hope they revise methods because this is a blatant disrespect of people's time. Not worth the savings for me... My time and money will be best spent elsewhere.

I bought 4 Michelin tires for $1,006.89 in 2012. Only 30928 miles and I got a nail in my tire. Costco refused to change it and let me buy 4 new tires. After I argued there is 50,000 miles warranty from Michelin, Costco agreed to give me a discount. The funny part is that, now Costco said I only need 2 rear tires to change instead of 4. I felt Costco is not honest this way. So after a long argument, Costco let me change all 4 tires again but only give me 2 tires warranty discount. Is Costco an expert for tires? Which way is safety, change 4 or only 2? Why Costco changed the idea according the discount I do not agree so I checked through internet. I found there are a lot of same complaints. On Jan. 6 2016, I had Costco install 4 tires ordered through them on my wife's 2008 Honda Pilot. This is a one owner car that has been retired before by them. I'm a retired mechanic and maintain all 5 cars in our family including a new Corvette. I also maintain a classic car collection for a friend that is worth in 7 figures and many other vehicles and machinery. I'm not your average soccer mom that rolled in off the street. I personally waxed this car 6 weeks prior. A week prior I completed many repairs on the car and had the wheels off for a week while I had it up in the air. I was tripping over the tires for a week. Do you think I would have noticed damaged to the rims at this point or when I waxed it? I can assure you I would have. I've had all my cars tired by Costco for many years and trusted them to the point that I didn't even look at the rims and signed off when I left.
I went home and later decided to just take a look at the tires. All four were gouged at the edge of the wheel past the clearcoat into the aluminum alloy. Without prompting my wife saw the tires when she came home and stated "the tires look great but why are the wheels so scratched?" I went back to Costco on Jan 7th. They stated it was previous damage. I assured them it was not.
Long story short filled out a complaint, was contacted by a 3rd party damage assessor (denied claim) AMEX originally pulled charges but reinstated them because I signed off without inspection. This Costco (Teterboro, NJ) is 3 months old with state of the art equipment. I changed 1,000's of tires in my lifetime with archaic equipment and never did anywhere close to that kind of damage. So the end result is a $600 tire purchase that included $1,200 worth of damage. Think they're going to get the retire of my Corvette ($2K)? Rims are 1,100 per. Never. Think I'm going to alert all my gearhead friends about this? Absolutely.

My tire got damaged on 2/15/16, waited for Springfield VA Costco to open at 10 to go there and fix my tire because I used one year and I had warranty. I called them, someone said they are close because their associate did not show up to work. Called after lunch, they were open but they might close the tire department anytime. Went the next day - an African American guy and a Iranian guy very nice and polite. Took the tire from me and ordered a tire for my vehicle. The next someone called me to come and pay otherwise the job is not going to be done. Went there, a Spanish/Chinese looking Manager and Chinese associate acting as if they own Costco, I pay the money and I told the guy put the tire in to my wheel tomorrow when my wife comes, that way she doesn't have to wait longer because I have an infant baby.
The Chinese looking associate and the Chinese looking Manager start lecturing me that "we don't care, the minimum wait is two and half hours." I was keep trying to explain to them that it's Costco's fault that their associate did not show up on Monday and I had to go to a Gas station paid $20, which I could get it for free from Costco and they telling me that's not their fault that Costco did not open the tire department, it's up to us and "we run the business, not you." Next day [Thursday] my wife went and they make her wait almost three hours but on the paper that they printed upfront it's like one and half hour just to cover themselves. The most disgusting customer service ever and we are the executive member. They said they would try to fit one on and get back to me. Okay, sure. 90 MINUTES LATER and I still have not heard anything from them. I go over to the desk and I'm told my tires wouldn't fit (they would have rubbed and they were too wide for the rim) and they wouldn't put them on... and I received no phone call about it?! The guy behind the counter argued with me claiming that the initial phone call they made "counted". Yeah, okay. And he really didn't offer any additional information by way of how to fix the situation with my tires "not fitting." What a waste of my time and money. Demanded a refund (got it in full) and went across the street to the Tire Shop where I got a BETTER tire for a CHEAPER price and EXCEPTIONAL customer service. These were to replace the factory installed Bridgestone Turanza EL400 tires with only 19,300 with 5/32 tread left but were sliding constantly in our Oregon rain. Tires took about 8 or so days to arrive as UPS revised delivery date twice - the tires shipped from Houston TX. I then checked Costco.com for another brand of tires and saw that they were now $70 off a set of 4 starting Nov 20, a day after I placed my order.
I called Costco.com customer service and they gladly refunded $70 and said they did so up to 30 days after purchase. Once tires arrived the tire center contacted me. I called on Tuesday and scheduled an appointment for Sunday at 1 PM. My wife freaked out and said she didn't want to wait any longer so we drove over to the tire center. They said it would be 1.5-2 hours. The tires were mounted and balanced in just under an hour and 30 minutes but the tech pooched my phone number so they were unable to call me when finished. I was checking periodically anyway so no big deal. What a totally wonderful tire buying experience. I did everything right in the 3 years that I owned the tires, alignment, rotations, air checks, etc. Well, they declined to use my warranty. They gave me multiple excuses why they wouldn't warranty them, "You didn't come back to see us for all your tire needs." I went to closer locations like Les Schwab and the dealership where I purchased my car, not to mention, the wait time was significantly less.
And I had all the paperwork from both places for proof. Then they told me that one of my tires was a road hazard and that they had to put my spare on and send the bad one back to the factory so they could credit me a prorated amount, somewhere around $30. Well, it's now been 3 weeks since that ordeal, and I still haven't heard from them about my credit. Well, Friday morning and still nothing has changed. I called again and waited on hold patiently expecting them to tell me "EXPEDITED" would mean quickly. Expedited just means they have acknowledged the tire order was never made and they would now place it again. I should expect my tires in a week to ten days... wait... WHAT? When I return to have them checked, told I have to wait for 3 or more hours. I asked to make an appointment, sorry, they don't take appointments... Told to come before opening time and line up at door... REALLY... I then asked to put me on the list and I'll come back in a few hours, sorry, can't do that either. I would have to leave my keys and sign the work order, and wait 3 or more hours just to get my car looked at...
Still more... if a tire, they will replace it, if a rim, they can't replace it, they don't have any rims at the store. I would have to go home, order the necessary rim or rims, wait for delivery, load in my car and take to the store, then wait another 3 hours or more to have them fixed. Did I mention that I am a 72 year old senior that does not have the strength to handle tires and rims? I gave up and went to my Hyundai dealer for help. Immediately taken for road test with service manager... confirmed rear wheel "hop" probably the rear rims. He also pointed out that the rims were not the same, one rim had a different center hub. Offered to check the rear wheels immediately and replace the rims at fault, at my expense, of course. OK, never will buy tires, rims, or try to get an oil change from Costco again... These wheel locks were on the Honda when we purchased our new Michelins from Costco and nothing was said about these wheel locks at that time. When we have gone back to Costco to get our tires rotated we are now turned away because our wheel locks are not factory HONDA OEM. One of the Honda's Michelins had a leak in it and it was going flat last Friday, plus it was time for a tire rotation.
My wife went to the Costco where we purchased the Michelins and she was told that since she did not have an appointment that it would be an hour and 45-minute wait. My wife went inside and proceeded to shop for 2 hours. Upon returning to the tire service area she found the tire almost flat and the tires not rotated. She inquired about why nothing was done to her Honda in two hours. Three service people told her that because the Honda has aftermarket wheel locks on it and that her Michelins were BALD, that they were unable to help her today. They did manage to have the time to write up an estimate on a new set of Michelins for the Honda which in reality, they could not install due to the aftermarket wheel locks.
In review, the loyal Costco member waited 2 hours to get a flat repair done and a tire rotation done and received no phone call within that 2 hours that her Honda could not be attended to. She was sent packing in an unsafe vehicle with an estimate for new tires that could NOT officially be installed on the Honda. Said the cause was the alignment but that was just checked at alignment shop and that was fine. Lots of excuses and double talk. Refused to warranty the tires? It doesn't make sense to pay 100 bucks a year to get treated like a Walmart customer. I know I'll save a lot more than 100 dollars a year if I stop shopping there.

I purchased a set of All terrain tires for my 1998 Chevy Suburban at the Pyramid Highway Costco in Reno NV. Before even getting to the Highway, a wheel weights fell off. The manager had the crew redo all the wheel balancing. In retaliation for catching their bad work they did not torque the lug nuts on the front right wheel. Three lug nut studs stripped out requiring the lug nuts to need to be cut off to remove the wheel. The wheel hub was ruined along with the 8 studs and lug nuts. Costco's so called expert blamed it on rust and metal fatigue and everything else except their employee not torquing the lug nuts. I am glad the wheel did not fall off at some point and kill my family. And I will never be buying anything ever again from Costco.

In my first two occasions I have gone into the tire department, for either purchasing tires or service, I had to wait more than 2 1/2 hours. In both instances it was estimated it would only be 90 min. Perhaps even more frustrating than their slow service is their unwillingness to service tires that have been filled with Fix -A- Flat. Their policy in this case is to replace the tire because they feel the chemicals in Fix -A- Flat destroy the tire even if the chemical has been in there for less than 24 hours.
While I only have to pay a pro-rated amount for this new tire based on usage, it is still painful to pay for something that I paid to warranty when Costco's Tire competitors do not have a similar requirement. I had bought four new tires a month ago and it was determined that the tread had gone down sufficiently for me to cough up $23 for one month of wear. The whole experience has been a disappointment and I am reconsidering whether I will use this department again for my other vehicles.

But I showed rotation records but they ignored it. 2nd time I bought tires for my Odyssey Bridgestone with 65k miles warranty. Same story, after 35k miles they worn out - this time I have records showing my alignment and rotation records. To my surprise, sales person told me it is defect with my car. We have been members (>100/yr) because we thought it was worth it. No longer true. The return policy was ridiculously generous but is steadily eroding. Our collective need for fatter retirement accounts means it's no longer sufficient for a business to be profitable. We need continued earnings GROWTH for the stock to gain value. I believe Costco is steadily escaping to the ordinary. Can't see how this is good for business, but perhaps their analytics show satisfaction is no longer important. But I digress...Discovery #1 is Costco's car battery offering is dramatically altered. OK. Duly noted. Discovery #2 is they no longer seem to want my tire business.
I have a set of Michelin HydroEdge tires, with one flat. When I request flat repair, I am dead to them (my tire warranty expired). They will not repair the flat, citing liability issues, and they won't rotate the tires on the car either. My only option is to purchase a new set of Michelin Defenders, which they must order. So, despite failing to mention anything but a mileage limitation at time of purchase (I say the failure was theirs. They say it was in the warranty), they turn me away.
As salt in the wound they try to sell me another high-mileage tire. I am retired and drive about 5k miles/yr. At 90,000 miles, the Defender tread will last 18 years. But not really. It will "die" of old age, and I will be out of luck if I want any service beyond 5 yr. This was a discovery for me, so I called Michelin to confirm. Michelin told me their warranty has always been limited to 6 years, so Costco misinformed me in this regard. Bottom line message is Costco tires (they say they only carry high-mileage tires) are not for low-mileage retirees. This seems self-destructive, since cost-sensitive retirees appear in large numbers at Costco. Where's the next "Costco" with motivation to build a customer base?

Not only was my wait 3 to 4 hours for a simple tire rotation, but the personnel working here are not your most friendliest of servicemen out there. It seems as they were pushing for appointment only services the most. I think that there should be a basic and logical service level approach to those members who buy tires at Costco and experience long waits. Either offer a cut off time for services or appoint the newest employee to deal with quick and easy rotations. They are not a big deal. If I had the equipment, I would do it myself. I had a very poor customer experience at Costco Tires. I ordered 4 new tires for my 1993 Explorer through Costco web site. When the tires arrived, I went to Costco to have them installed. Within 30 minutes I got a call saying they REFUSED to install them because I had the wrong lug nuts installed on the rims. I had the original lug nuts from 1993 when I bought the SUV and presented them to the Auto Tech. He said “they were also wrong” and showed me a picture of a lug nut I have never seen before. I then asked if I bought the lug nuts shown in the picture would he install the tires. He still refused now saying “the rims could have cracks” and he would not take the responsibility because of liability issues.
I asked if there is anything I can do to get these tires install. He said “either buy 4 new rims or have another dealer (like Ford) install them.” So I picked up the new tires, went to a tire dealership, had the rims inspected, had the new tires installed on the rims and used the original 1993 lug nuts. I will NEVER again USE OR BUY any car related items from Costco again.

I called the tire center and was told that whenever you have 2 new tires put on the car the wheels need to be balanced and aligned but they don't that. So I called Mercedes and made an appointment. When I got there they told me it was not necessary for rear tires. One of their service people came out and drove the vehicle and said the alignment was fine. He then checked the air pressure. The tires should have a max psi of 37. They were at 45. Overinflated. Mercedes corrected the air pressure and the car was fine.
Today I had a blow out on the freeway. Called Mercedes and they told me I would have to pay for the tire because Costco has special warranty on the tires that is only good if I go back to Costco. Reluctantly I called Costco knowing the tire was special order and tried to explain. The person said just come in. I again tried to explain they don't keep it in stock. Fast forward to 3 months later...yesterday, I am getting ready to go to work. I unlock my car and see the left front tire is now flat. Why did they not sell me 4 tires? Because michelin is offering a 4 tire discount of 70.00 per tire if you buy 4. Now I have to buy 3. No discount. Bad service- would not recommend the aggravation over it. Purchased four tires for install and balance. I was a Ford mechanic, factory-trained, degreed, and with years of experience so I know when I'm being lied to about my car. They use hi-torque impact guns to remove lug nuts, and broke one off, leaving the wheel unable to be removed. They said they couldn’t and WON’T fix it, did not offer to fix it for me or to pay for me to get it fixed. He said it was MY problem.
Lie number one: "We use calibrated impact tools to remove lug nuts, we remove at 50 lbs.” Truth: There is no such thing. Lie Number two: "We torque all lug nuts according to specifications, yours is 95 lbs.” Truth: How can their 50 lbs. "calibrated" tools remove something if it lacks 45 pounds of strength? Mistake number one: The tire tech broke the lug nut by buzzing them off at high torque, NOT by hand as the manager claimed (I watched them remove wheels on four cars through the window in the waiting area, not one was loosened nor removed by hand). He also GAVE me the impact socket with the broken lug nut stuck inside it. That’s proof right there.
Mistake number two, three, four: ALL new tires are marked with paint or a sticker; this is the heaviest part of the tire, and is supposed to be matched up with the valve stem on the wheel. Without this, excessive weight must be added, and the wheel may not be able to avoid vibration at certain speeds (harmonic) or high speeds. Mine vibrates like heck at 65 MPH. NOT ONE OF THE THREE TIRES INSTALLED MATCHED THIS DOT. The closest one was 3" away; the farthest was 10" off! (I didn’t notice this until after I'd left with 3 new tires and 1 bald tire). There was a huge dirt smudge they left on the leather door panel, which I can’t even clean off! I suppose that's my problem, too?
I asked the tire manager "So, you won’t pay for this? " He said, "We didn’t break it." I said, "Yes you did, it wasn’t broken when I came here." He said, "Well, there’s nothing we can do for you." I said, "If you think you broke it, you'd pay for it then?" He said, "Of course, but we didn’t break it." I then told him he can’t lie to me. I have the evidence in my hand, the lug nut in the impact socket the tech gave me and he SAID he broke it and apologized, and I am FAR more of an expert than he is, being factory-trained by Ford, I am ASE certified in ALL areas of repair, and have years of experience, and KNOW the only thing that can break a lug nut in half like that is a reckless force and the 150 PSI/300 lbs. torque tools they use.
So, I found a shop to fix it, they only charged me $100 and didn’t need to replace the hub (the lugs cannot be replaced individually, so Costco should take care when working on these cars, and any car. The dealer wanted to take part of the suspension off and charge $1200 + parts). I also had to get a rental car during the repairs. Costco didn't even offer to refund my installation charge, not a PENNY! Oh, not to mention, I was WAITING for the car, was the only one on the bench, and they didn’t call me OR see if I was the car’s owner. It sat there for 3 hours before I noticed the car was just sitting there for a long time and had asked what was taking so long. Thanks for blowing my whole day.
Also, the tires they recommended they claimed to be "Amazing in snow, only snow tires are better.” These are the WORST tires I've ever had on a car; even my summer tires on my race car perform better. I can’t find ONE review online saying these are good in snow, but I can find 90% of them on Tirerack saying they are the worst tires ever in snow. Thanks for pushing a high-profit tire on me, which I found out now is discontinued but still charged FULL RETAIL and said they were on sale. So, they lied about that too. I said I wanted the best tires in snow, I don’t care how expensive. I was sold this garbage.
Additional: Had son's car in there 6 months ago, told them DO NOT MOVE THE SEAT, the switch is loose. Wrote DO NOT MOVE SEAT in red pen on work order. They moved the seat and broke the switch control off. Now it won’t go backwards because there's no switch any more. Why do they even need to move the seat to drive the car 40 feet to and from a parking spot?! They also refused to fix that.

On 10-31 payday, I went to a used tire center and asked them to fix my tire. They told me nothing was wrong with it.
The mechanic even showed me in the water test that there were no leaks and he said there wasn't any damage to inside and outside of tire. He even said there is nothing wrong with tire and it can be driven on. I even looked before he put tire on rim that there wasn't any damage. He stated it was the weight on rim (used for balancing) which was causing the slow leak. I told my supervisor (11-1) that I was very unhappy and wanted to talk to someone about getting refund. He told me to talk to tire manager when I had time. But when I got off work, they were closed. Next day (11-2), was told same thing by my supervisor to talk to manager. First, I think that Costco does a fantastic job of installing tires. The problem lies in the fact that tire center personnel will tell members "no" to anything off-script. They installed tires for me that I had bought from another supplier (Costco only carried a winter tire as a fitment for my car) after getting the managers permission. I paid their installation charge which included the "road hazard" protection. Six months later one tire was low from a nail in the tread. I went to Costco to have them "patch and plug" the tire for a permanent repair. They had done this before for me in the same situation (me buying tires, them installing them and still repairing a flat...on this same car too). This time, however, the personnel told me that they would not and began quoting policy. Now, any tire installer that will let their customer "go down the road" instead of just repairing the tire for them (even at some cost) is not worthy of trust and should not be considered reputable.
As a executive member of Costco for over 15 years I am extremely disappointed to know that they do not even equal the customer service at Walmart Auto Center. (Who, by the way, was happy to perform the repair on another car's tire over the summer.) I will no longer recommend to anyone that they have their tires installed by Costco.

As a loyal and long-time customer of Costco I have come across a rather disturbing issue. I purchase my tires from Costco so I have the satisfaction of knowing I will receive full warranty and a high quality of customer service. This is important to me as I am retired and do not have the strength or energy that I use to have to service my own vehicles. However, I recently had the misfortune of getting a flat tire in Burlington, WA. It was a slow leak so I was able to get to the Costco in just off Interstate 5. When I arrived and explained my situation to the tire shop, I was told that I had to remove my own tire because the truck had a camper on it and it was policy that trucks with campers were not permitted into the bays.
I was very confused about this for two reasons: 1) The bay door is of sufficient height to get into the high bay area and to get the tire off would require the vehicle to be lifted maybe 6 inches. 2) When I purchased the tires at another Costco, I had my camper on and they had no issue bringing my truck and camper into the bay to install them. Anyways, I had to park next to the garage and remove (and replace once repaired) the tire myself even though there was only one other car in the entire garage. To add insult to injury, on my way home I was driving through Bellingham WA and I stopped by the tire shop at the Costco there. I asked the staff there if they would take my truck and camper into the tire shop to do a tire repair should I need it and they said they would be pleased to do so.
As you can imagine, I am confused by this. Is the Costco in Burlington following the correct policy or is the Costco in Bellingham? If it is Costco policy to not change tires on trucks with campers, I will have no choice but to get my tires at another retailer that is capable of servicing RV truck campers. I would also feel obliged to tell my fellow RVers and subscribers of RV magazines of your policy so they don’t have the same problem that I have had. I have always had good service at your other service centers as well as all the Costco Stores, and maybe this is an isolated incident which can be quickly resolved. I would really hope so. It was not pleasant for myself as an elderly man in very hot weather to be changing a tire Costco sold me outside your store while your tire staff looked on from their air conditioned garage. Awaiting your consideration into this incident.

I received a notice that my tires showed up and were ready. I arrived to costco with my rims, since it's way too early for snow tires, and was told it would take 20-25 minutes. 5 minutes later i got called saying that my tires were date coded 2010 and that they were 4 years old. I told the service guy this was fine since tires have a shelf life of 10 years properly stored. Got a call back minutes later, saying that it was Costco policy that any tire older than 3 years couldn't be used, and had to be rejected.
The manager called Michelin to see if they could get newer dated tires, and they said no. Costco refunded me my money, but told me to place a new order for the same tire, without knowing if I would get the same date which could take multiple tries to. I refused and took my business elsewhere to a reputable store that 10 years or newer was acceptable. I get that after 10 years the rubber in a tire breaks down, but after 3, i don't have time for games. Nowhere in Costco policy when ordering online do they state that 4 year old tires cannot be installed. Bought tires 14 months prior. I had my tires rotated at Costco and between with oil changes at Firestone, I noticed my tires were really bald on the front of my car. My husband brought my car into Costco to look at the car tires. The manager said, "your car is out of alignment, it is not covered." I called the Costco immediately when he got home and informed him that is NOT true. My car is always mechanically maintained. He said if I brought proof that my car alignment was not off, he would prorate the tires, otherwise as a courtesy I would get 25%. Well I brought my car to a Mavis and my car was within factory specs and the alignment was fine. I returned to Costco and the supervisor called the manager at home and he said 25% even with proof of alignment.
After going back and fourth, I called the manager from inside Costco. He offered to give me 25% off another brand Michelin. Now let me get this straight, I purchased tires for 500. Now 14 months later, I would get 25% off another brand costing me another 600. "What A BARGAIN"! So after arguing, I received 50% percent off two tires and a small discount. I thought this was fair. Not happy with the wear on the tires, but fair. Now all the tire guy had to do is ring the sale up. NO, he again gets on the phone with his manager at home and works through the sale. Guess what he rings it up for less 25%. I still can't figure out, did he think I was stupid or he couldn't do percentages. I asked to talk to the manager in Costco again and use his calculator to show him. He told me he couldn't find his calculator and we'll figure this out another time. After I showed his coworker the numbers, he was apologetic and very nice and helped explain it to him.
My car tire light is now on. After 3 hrs I will bring it somewhere else! I will never again buy tires from Costco! I was told they put tires on cars even if the alignment is off. "We are not mechanics, we can't tell this". So if your car is out of alignment too bad! You just lost your warranty. I was also talked to like a criminal from the store manager, he scolded me," If this happens again we won't honor your claim." Like I do this for a living! Well I never had a claim with Costco or anyone else for that matter. I have purchased over $4,000 this yr to date from your store with only two returns on flea treatments that didn't work. I have never abused the return policy and this was handled in the utmost unprofessional way on every level of employees! "DON'T BUY YOUR TIRES FROM COSTCO EVEN WITH ROAD HAZARD."

I have purchased several sets of tires from Costco. Rotation, replacement, and flat repair times average 2 to 3 hours. The last time I took my pickup in for slow leak in tire. Costco replaced tire, without my permission, and charged me $110. They said hole was too close to edge of tire. Another time, after waiting 2 hours they said they could not find hole. I took pickup home and ran water over wheel and found leak. I will never buy tires at Costco again.

Be careful when getting tires replaced by Costco. When a tire failed on my Jeep I had it replaced (Free) just had to pay for new warranty ($100+). They mount the new tires ALWAYS on the rear... per Michelin I was told. What was not mentioned was, you have to bring it back "IMMEDIATELY" for rotation. IF your fronts are not within 3/32nds tread of the rears, they will only rotate them from Right to Left... NOT Front to Rear. I offered to PAY them for this absolutely ridiculous rule of Michelin's... THEY REFUSED.

I have always been purchasing tires from Costco since they opened the store in Austin for all my cars. Although I hate the wait at the tire center, but I put up with it because I love Costco, and have been very loyal for many years. I had the fortune of never using their warranty until now. I had a bubble on one of the tires that we purchased less than 3 years back. The tires are BF Goodrich, and came with 60,000 mile warranty. Before Costco was opened, I always bought tires from Discount Tire, where I always bought the warranty "Certificate". Discount Tire would replace the tire if it is damaged under the warranty if it is beyond repair. I thought that the Costco warranty worked the same way, bad on me, I should have read the warranty. Costco's warranty is only pro-rated replacement after first year. I read the warranty, and it was very clear on pro-rated replacement.
Now, I got educated on the warranty, so I was fine with it. But there is a problem with how Costco cheats you on calculating the prorated discount from the new tire price. I was told that the tire had only enough tread depth left that they calculated the prorated discount to be 38%. I knew that the tire had good tread depth left, and it should be more than what they calculated. I asked them if they measured the tread depth, and they told me that they did and it calculated to 38%. I did not argue with them.
They ordered the new tire as it is not in stock, put the tire in a bag, put it in the trunk and mounted the spare on the car. I drove my car to the Discount Tire and asked them to measure the tread depth. They measured at 3 different locations on all treads and told me that I have 6/32 tread left, which is about 60% tread depth. They told me that the new tires will have 10/32 tread depth, and my tire had 6/32. They also told me that their warranty covers to a tread depth of 2/32. I wanted to have another opinion, and there was a NTB store close by, and I took it there to verify again. Same result. It had 6/32 tread depth left. The difference between 38% and 60% on a $150 tire is $34 which is about 23% of tire cost. I felt that it was not right.
I love Costco, their warranties and their customer service. Now, I do not feel the same way about their tire warranty. I am not going to buy tires from Costco any more. I am going back to Discount Tire for my future tire purchases. There, the tire cost is comparable to Costco, but their warranty "Certificate" costs slightly higher. I feel that it is worth the extra cost for a warranty with full tire replacement than a disingenuous Costco's prorated replacement.

I purchased 4 Bridgetsone Turanza Serenity Plus 235/55 17 "V" rated tires at Costco, Rohnert Park, Ca. for my 2009 Hyundai Azera sedan - I waited the 1.5 hours for mounting and 'STATIC' balancing. Got up to 65 mph and very bad steering wheel shake. Returned and reported shake - Costco re-balanced wheels using 'DYNAMIC' method, back on freeway to 65mph and same shaking in steering wheel. Back to Costco - this time they used the 'PIN PLATE' balancing method (their best method) and it reduced the shake by 90% but a shake was still noticeable! Back to Costco the next day - the Manager had them dis-mount the tires, put extra lube on rim and re-mount - same shake! After a few days at my request, Costco ordered 4 new tires and mounted using the 'PIN PLATE' method but vibrations occurred with this set as well.
I went over to Les Schwab and paid $98 to have all four tires balanced using the "ROAD FORCE" method - the best method available. This method identified several missteps by the Costco installers AND identified the RF tire was way out of round (rated 33 when 20 is max. tolerance). Test drive and it was the smoothest ride so far. Back to Costco Customer Service Manager - he listened and went to the Warehouse Manage who approved reimbursing me the $98.00. The Tire Dept. Manager ordered a new replacement tire for the RF which I will pickup today and take to Schwab for mounting and balancing.
Schwab was great in explaining and allowed me to watch the Road Force balancing. I took notes and gave a copy to Costco Customer Service - every tire was mounted incorrectly, had wrong amount of weights to compensate for improper mounting. What I mean is that the tire manufacturer puts a yellow dot on the sidewall - this is recommended to line up with the valve stem. Costco had the yellow dots opposite the valve stem, then over- weighted to compensate. Also, Costco does not have the equipment to check for out of round tires or run out or to test the rim, etc. while Schwab - a REAL TIRE STORE does have the machine that tests it all - the "ROAD FORCE" factors. Schwab usually does not need to use that machine but for performance tires and tires with problems, they use it to diagnose the tire. I will NEVER buy another tire from Costco nor allow them to touch the car or tires again. If things do not work out today with the new tire, I will buy 4 new tires elsewhere and return all 4 Bridgestones to Costco.
BE SMART - BUY AT A WELL KNOWN TIRE SHOP - not a warehouse that only mounts and rotates tires. No alignment, no smart machine, no diagnostics, no one would even go for a drive with me to see for themselves. I wanted these tires and Costco had the best price - which now means nothing given the many trips, times spent waiting, aggravation and worry and money given to Schwab to do the right job. COSTCO does not check tires thoroughly for heavy spots, out of roundness, run out, - etc. think of them and mount and rotate only. Better yet, just avoid the Tire Dept. and get your goods in the warehouse which is their main draw anyway.
On a positive note - the tire dept. did replace the tires without a problem, Costco did reimburse me for the Road Force $98 charge with a real check! So far, I have made 9 trips to Costco, waited about 7-8 hours for work completion and spent two weeks now very frustrated and wondering if my car has other serious problems that I did not have when I went to Costco. I was annoyed they would not even try to diagnose the problem, just responded to my complaints with re-dos and ordering new tires. They would not take a drive with me to experience and try to figure out what was wrong. The tires seem like 'seconds' in hindsight with many problems - is better than many other brands in general. Bridgestone.

I am at mileage 131,000 and was told today that I would need two new front tires due to uneven wear. I'm irritated at myself more than anyone else, but one of the issues I explained to the technician was that my driver front tire was losing air and losing it quickly. I asked if it was a faulty stem would I be covered for some compensation. He never dealt with the air loss at the stem level and pushed the air loss totally at the fault of not having the tires balanced. Is this correct? Could I be losing air in a tire that after 14,000 miles is considered a total loss?

New tires were installed on my vehicle at the Kitchener Costco which resulted in a possible deadly experience if I didn't pull off the highway when I did to discover the horror. While driving on the highway 401 (within 24 hrs of new installed tires), my car would shake upon braking, I assumed the new tires were just not so great. Then when I got to my destination, the car was making other noises and the gas pedal was slightly vibrating.
By the time I left to return home on highway 401, the car was driving very rough and making noises and the vibration got much worse so I made an exit off the highway as soon as it was safe to do so and pulled into a parking lot. At that time, I phoned my husband who said the car sounds very unsafe and I need to check the lug nuts because it sounds like the tires are loose. To my horror, I discovered 7 lug nuts were finger-loose. 3 on the driver's back side and 4 on the driver's front side where so extremely loose that upon checking, they easily came off. So I tightened all the lug nuts and finished my drive home.
I wrote Costco Kitchener a letter which resulted in a verbal response back stating that all the documents showed that all procedures were followed according to the Costco's policy and there is nothing they did wrong on their end. The Kitchener manager was not denying the outcome but felt justified that "all the documents indicated procedures were followed". The reality is I have witnesses that saw the horror as I turned the lug nuts with my hands and came to the realization that if I would have continued on the highway, we may have been killed!!!!!! Costco did not even honour my request for an apology to the parents of my young travelers who were very concerned to get the phone call explaining their children's late arrival due to our emergency stop off the highway due to the loose tires that were installed less than 24 hrs previously. :(

Went to Costco Warehouse at Potomac Mills in Woodbridge, Virginia at 0950 in the morning on Saturday, 31 May, 2014 to order tires (Michelin Primacy 205/65R 16s) for my 2013 Sonata and after waiting for the young man at the sales counter attempting numerous times on the phone trying to order them, he hangs the phone up and says to me "We can't get your tires!!" I asked him, what exactly does that mean??? He again says in what I considered a rude tone, "We can't get or order your tires!" I asked how could that be, you can't order tires for a 2013 Hyundai Sonata??? He stated, "That's Right!"... I asked, can you order any other brand... He said, we have Bridgestone, but I'll have to order those... I said order me 4 please... He goes through the phone ordering routine as he did with the Michelin ordering and again, same thing... "We can't get you those either!" I left the store before I blew up!!
I find this absolutely impossible that a store like COSTCO cannot order a set of 4 tires for a very popular 2013 automobile in America. If this is true, they need to get their heads out of their butts and make corrections and changes quickly... I have always loved and bragged about COSTCO, but never again... Have bought Michelin tires from Costco for our Dodge Intrepid, Toyota Rav4, two Honda Civics and Toyota Camry. I'll be replacing tires shortly on a 2012 Toyota Camry hybrid at Costco. I get there early in the morning and generally have an hour wait (once two hours coming in mid-day). Once we had a bad flat from a sharp key embedded in our tire. The tire was replaced free under warranty. Another time, the Costco servicemen were concerned about a tires sidewall when rotating and asked if they could replace it, for free! I don't understand all the issues reported on this website, but I do understand that Costco only services the Michelin tires they sell. I get my tires rotated, balanced and serviced with nitrogen air when scheduled on each car. Maybe different Costco store tire departments are different, but ours in Greenville, SC have only been a great service to us over the years. I have found slightly better prices on tires elsewhere, but not the total package of services included.

I'm done with Costco after this last incident and finding out some sketchy stuff. I'm not sure if CostCo is selling grey market tires or simply buying their Michelin tires at a severe discount but I was told by Michelin that CostCo sold Michelin tires are NOT eligible for manufacturer warranty claims. This was confirmed by CostCo as well.
I had 61k miles on a set of Michelin tires with a 65k treadlife warranty when I noticed some severe dry rot and tread separation on three, with the 4th dead from a rather large object that punctured it. CostCo gave us over half the value of the roadhazard tire to buy a new one but were very wishy-washy on what constituted an unsafe tire from a dry-rot perspective. The place we went to buy a new tire (we are no longer CostCo members simply because there isn't one convenient to us) told us that Michelin would definitely warranty the other tires. I called Michelin myself to see because of the two versions of information and was told that Michelin does NOT warranty CostCo sold tires and I would need to take it up with them. (They did say that a 2 year old tire, regardless of mileage shouldn't be showing dry rot.)
The next day, I take the car in question to CostCo and after much debate and a somewhat hostile manager, they offered me 15 dollars per tire. Tires that from a treadlife perspective had more than half their life left (because I rotated properly, kept them at proper inflation, and possibly due to CostCo's nitrogen inflation). Tires that the day before CostCo had given me a payout to buy a new tire of more than half the replacement cost. Michelin would have paid out pro-rated based solely on tread depth, with more than half the cost covered had there been a Michelin warranty.
Nowhere does it say that CostCo is not an authorized dealer for Michelin tires but that is what I was told and the reason why Michelin doesn't warranty them by CostCo. They use Michelin's logo, brag about their techs being Michelin trained, yet when it comes down to it, they buy their tires on the cheap and don't offer the same level of warranty that the same tire (at the same price, mind you) has from other places. I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and I'm considering a small claims court lawsuit.

The rear tires were still the tires that came with the car when originally purchased in 2008. We took the car and all of the paperwork to Costco and they wouldn't give us what we paid for. Though they acknowledge (finally) that the 2 rear tires are indeed the original tires that came with the car, and not a brand that they sell, they will not own up to their mistake and give us what we paid for. Today (4/5/2014), I visited one of your Costco warehouse stores (1320 S. Route 59, Naperville, IL 60564-5944) in the morning around 10am. My primary purpose was to get my flat car tire repaired and to also to pick my son’s birthday cake as today was his birthday. I spoke to the tire center associate and he told me that since I did not buy the tires from Costco, these cannot be repaired by Costco. How dumb is that? I can understand that Costco does not want to fix my tires for “free” but they can charge me money to fix the tire right? No. They would not fix the tire with or without money. Here I have a 100 dollar per year membership and I have already spent almost 1500 dollars since I joined in Jan 2014 and Costco tells me that they cannot fix the tire.
So I went on to complain to the membership manager at that time. His name is **. He continued to explain that Costco will not do anything. I got a little angry with him and told him that Costco used to do this in the past so not sure why they are not doing it. He (**) also got angry with me and started to shout at me in front of all the customers there. He got really upset with me and I never have experienced anyone like that in the past 10 years. He shouted extremely loud at me and threatened to call the police if I did not leave the store (I am sure all the customers around the membership area heard his load voice).
So basically he ashamed and humiliated me in front all the customers and shouted at me to leave the store. I am not sure what is Costco’s policy in regards to treating its customers with respect and dignity, but I am sure Mr. ** was out of line with any and all policies that might exist for any major store like (supposedly Costco), Sam’s Club, Macy, Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot etc. I think Costco gives too much of free hand to its employees and does not enforce its employees to treat Costco customers in a fair way.
I am surprised to see how a Costco’s store manager could behave. Does he behave the same way with other customers? Is Costco ok if he continues to behave in such a way? Please let me know what Costco is going to do to correct this situation. Will that manager (**) apologize for his actions? How will Costco monitor this situation? I will make sure to tell my friends and acquaintances to be watchful of Costco employees at this location. I think Costco should put in some rules/policies to have their employees in check.
Please call me and explain to me what the solution to this problem is? Should I cancel my membership now? I am very unhappy with Costco’s customer service and seriously thinking of going back to Sam’s Club. I have also a picture of ** so that everybody can see how he looks like. Be aware, don't deal with him. He is very, very rude.

I'm not comfortable repeating the same mistake twice and feel like the tire center has a totally different approach to customer service than the rest of Costco. To make things worse, I was quoted a non-sale price on a new set. I shopped the quote at Big O and Les Schwab and got better quotes on similar mileage h-rated tires. And at this point, I would trust the mileage warranty at either of these more than I would at Costco. I usually take care of my car with regular tire rotation and perform services at dealer or specialized shop. To ask for warranty replacement, which did not happen, I had to go to Costco 3 times. First time they were so busy the tire technician told me, "Can you come back tomorrow?" At the counter there was only one guy which was tire specialist and sales agent at the same time, big line of people waiting.
The second time I finally got somebody looking at the tires. He mentioned there is effectively defect, they will change at least 2 of the front tires, but he cannot decide, to come back when a supervisor is here. 3rd time, I went back and finally one technician said he is the supervisor and rechecked again. He asked me for service papers. I did show what I had in the car and I said, "I can bring more." He argued with me for an hour and told me basically, "Either you buy another set with a discount/credit or we can ask lots of service papers, alignment, rotation, etc... then we will refuse the warranty." I told him I have been buying for thousands of dollar per year at Costco for years and I think I will stop my membership and never come back for any things... It did not help. Basically instead of replacement, I had to pay another $540 to get a new set of tire.
This is bad business and when I was waiting in line, the supervisor was telling another sales technician that he is not aggressive enough, so I guess this is new business model for selling tires with fake warranty. They also pretend giving you free rotation but it never happen because of wait time; who has half day to waste for that! I always pay to do it at a shop during oil changes. When I asked how much time it would take, the Manager of the Costco Tire Center in Edison, NJ (Steven **) tells me that it would take a while because they have to move the back tires to the front of the vehicle and then place the new tires (from Costco) in the rear... His words EXACTLY were: "We do not put the New Tires in the front of the vehicle, we put the new tires in the back". I requested him to please put the new tires in the front of the vehicle, and AGAIN, with a much more stern voice said... "that is not our policy".
I then mentioned that I happen to work at an Audi Dealership and that EVERY Manager in Parts, Service & Pre-owned Sales mentioned that if you have two new tires, they MUST go in the front of the vehicle... (unless it's a BMW with only rear wheel drive). I asked him to show this "Policy" in writing and he did not reciprocate. I find this to be unacceptable. On Jan 4th 2014 I went back to the same store to have one tire, which had a nail in it, repaired and also have the tires rotated and balanced. The people running the tire center refused to rotate my tires, quoting some law about having better tires on the rear than on the front. If I drive my car around the block the front tires will have worn more than the rear and by the tire center's interpretation of the law they will be unable to rotate my tires.
These same intellectual giants that were interpreting law in order to get out of performing services I have already paid you for, were unable to properly replace the hubcap on the wheel they did the repair on. They obviously weren't intelligent enough to line up the tab on the hubcap with the notch in the wheel, so they just beat it into place with a hammer. Of the five plastic lug nut covers four of them made it from Costco to my home - the four that made it weren't even tight.
They need to have someone who can at least read review the law these morons are quoting and decide if I can have my four month old tires rotated to the back of my Buick. This is not the first time this has happened. The last time, the kid who refused to rotate my tires was there by himself and I was sure he just didn't grasp the concept that tires are rotated because the front tires wear faster than the rear tires. I am writing in regards to Costco's Michelin Tire Service. On November 29, I purchased order on all season tires for my Lexus 300 RX and it was schedule on December 10 at 1 pm. Hoping I would be expecting them, my wife went ahead to finally put them on. We had an appointment for 1pm, so as she got to Costco, her experience was nothing that she had ever expected. She had came on time, asking the tire clerk to install her winter tires. He checked her order briefly and stated that it would be a max two hour wait until her tires were properly installed. So to waste time, my wife decides to go around Costco and do some quick shopping. An hour later, she receives a call from the clerk stating that her tires are currently not in and that they have not been received yet? As odd as that sounds, they made her wait a whole two hours to only then call her, and say that her tires weren't there, when apparently they weren't there in the first place when he checked the first time.
They did not mention anything in the beginning when they checked her order which makes no sense because they should keep track of where the tires are, and if they were shipped. My wife being frustrated, asked them why couldn't they have mentioned this earlier to her, and starts stating her concerns about the tires locations. In an absurd response, the clerk started questioning her liability in regards to ordering the tires too late, when really two weeks prior to the 10th is when we ordered them. Mind the fact that what he was stating was completely irrelevant, he really showed poor customer service and stated that we could get our money back. Why would we want our money back, if all we wanted is winter tires? It turns out our tires were around Edmonton, Ontario which meant that now, it would take even longer to receive them. This was unfortunate and disappointing because we paid weeks in advance, and the weather was becoming way worse day by day.
So I had called the manager of Costco and explained him the situation. He was astonished at the poor customer service that we had gotten and stated that we would receive our tires by the 16th of December, no later. Hoping that that would happen, it didn't. So it turns out that we weren't actually going to receive our tires. I had called the manager yet again and asked him about my situation. He started stating that it was Michelin's fault, and that Costco has nothing to do with it. So now, each time I call, it almost seems as if there is a different story that is being told here. The next couple times I called, the manager stated that we should most likely receive the tires this week (Dec 16-20). It's been almost twenty days since I have not received my order of my winter tires.

I told them to make an appointment that to which they said they don't make a booking which I found really weird.

For the first time I went online to Costco. Doing so I fill out the data for my truck. I order the results which are Michelin X tires. Waited for them to be shipped then noticed on the shipping data the tires are 15 inch when mine are 16". Customer support tells me to go to the warehouse and get them returned which I reject and insist they do it electronically and she complied. I was left with going through the whole process again which will put me in the warehouse in the middle of the holidays. If it sounds too good to be true it most likely isn't! Thank you but no thanks.

Hello to everybody. I just come back from Costco tyres in Coventry. My surprise was that I wanted to change from tyres in the van for winter ones because looks is going to be a hard one. On my rear still at least 3000 miles to go. My surprise when I ask them they told me that their policy is new one to the back, and back ones to the front. So an example then, what is the point to have to new back tires in the back when all the main braking and stirring is at the front. I believe that is the most stupid policy heard of, sound pure marketing for them, because for somebody that is not thinking changing the 4 tires, make them changing them so they make pay the customers for new tires on tires can do another 3000 miles. I love Costco, but after spend 1 hour discussing with the guys, all the great products they have in the store they threw it in the tires Section. Also is a same for Michelin to allow this policy!!!! 000000 for Costco and Michelin.

I went to the counter to let them know I was there. The attendant shushed me and said I can't let people know you made an appointment. I asked him what he was talking about. He said they weren't allowed to make appointments but "***" made four appointments. I asked why I was told they could set up an appointment. He blamed someone else. I asked if this was going to cause a several hour wait. He assured me it wouldn't. Then I asked if they carried studded snow tires. He said no they did not and in fact if I had not purchase my tires at Costco, they could not work on my car. I was prepared to purchase a new set of tires, if needed. However, after I heard this, I said, "I will go somewhere else." I did not see a policy in place that stated Costco would not work on your vehicle if you did not purchase tires from them. It sounds like I dodged a bullet after reading these reviews.

Let me start by saying we LOVE Costco and spend a great deal of money there every month. It's an hour and a half drive to the nearest Costco. My complaint is only regarding the Tire Service Center. Since appointments can't be made to get our Costco tires rotated, we asked when the best time to come in to have it done ought to be. They told us first thing in the morning. So, Friday the 18th of October 2013, we arrived 22 minutes after they opened (We intended to be there right at opening but got caught in road construction for a few minutes twice).
We went in and were told by the none too friendly "**" that it would be at least 3 hours until he could get us in and then it would take 45 minutes to an hour to do the rotation. He didn't say sorry or act like he gave a rat’s behind. It felt like he actually wanted us to say, “Sorry, can't stay.” We had medical appointments scheduled for 3 hours out so we couldn't stay and wait. This was our third try at getting rotation at Costco Tire Center with the same result. Our Costco is situated where there is really nowhere else to go while one waits for 3 or 4 hours. We can kill an hour or so shopping while we get service but 3 or 4 hours is out of the question.
So bottom line for us is that is that this is the last set of tires we buy at Costco. We have a Les Schwab two miles from home that is happy to service us. Before I married my husband I used nothing but LS tires and they were always very convenient. They even came way out of town one time when I had a flat on the highway, to come and change my tire for me. And Les Schwab can be found in tiny towns all over the place. Not just in the bigger places like Costco. Much more convenient if you don't live near a Costco.

The tires were of a good price. (Honestly though, the only reason I went there is because no on else was open on Sunday, and I was riding on a spare. And it's not like they were much less than other places.) I looked at my car the next day. They had put several very noticeable scuffs on two of my wheels. It also sounds like it's going to be a nightmare getting my wheels rotated there and also getting them to honor the warranty. I will just get my tires rotated at my lube shop and hope I never have a problem with them. At least, these Primacy tires ride really well.

I bought 4 new Bridgestones for my Toyota Sequoia in July. Two months later, we had a front tire blow out on the interstate. I had a hard time bringing the car to a stop. Thank god a dot and highway patrol were there to help me change it out. My wife called Costco to tell them what happened and Michael at the store in Greenville, SC said and I quote, "Ma'am you're not blaming the tire, are you?" That's when I got on the phone and proceeded to cuss his ** out. When I brought the tire back, the sidewall was ripped 3 inches. Jonathan got tire off the rim and found a 1/2 inch piece of wood like it came off a broom handle.
I am no expert but what physics I know, I believe once the tire went flat and was all over the highway and emergency lane, it could have picked up anything inside it .The inertia from side to side until it came to rest could have picked a soda can. I had to wait 2 weeks to get the 4 tires in .Now I was told my tire would be in in 3 days, Costco would rush it. 2 weeks later, I am still riding on my spare "which I trust more than the other 3". Jonathan at Costco said I got the last tire out of Chicago, because of the tsunami overseas, the Bridgestone plant had to close. Wasn't that 3 years ago? Long story, I know but I would not want anyone to go through this. It's a good place for food and electronics and that's it. I asked the manager, Terri, "Are these second run tires," and she said absolutely not. I will go to my neighborhood tire store from now on and get my tires the same day.

Mechanic verified and confirmed that everything was good, so bring back in 30 days for additional check. On 8/20 we went for checkup as we never felt happy throughout the period. Costco Tire Center at 100 Cobb Pkwy, Ringgold, GA - Severely scratched 3 of my wheels!!! Tires had a bad vibration, went back Several times to get them to recheck the balance!!! Never getting the vibration out... I then took it to a Goodyear. They got it right the first attempt... Every time that I took it in to get the tire rotated, it would be several hours wait. And I would ask them to call me when they were done with it and they couldn't even give me a courtesy call! Costco damaged 3 wheels at $478.00 X 3 = $1434.00. And I was told that Costco wouldn't pay for the damage done to my wheels... NO! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND COSTCO TO NO ONE! And I will not spend another penny there! FYI, I wrote Costco headquarters this letter:
"I purchased a set of Michelin tires to replace the factory set of the same type of Michelins that was on my 2008 Toyota 4Runner which had over 70,000 miles on the original tires. Which the tires with over 70,000 miles were smoother than the new tires that I had just purchased at Costco. The new tires have a vibration so I have taken them back several times to have them checked and the same thing at 65 MPH, a bad vibration. After several attempts, Costco couldn't seem to fix this problem.
While I was handwashing the vehicle this weekend, I have realized that they have scratched my wheels with a tire changer. Which no one else had touched the wheels on my 4Runner since I bought it new, but Costco. And doing some reviews on the WEB, other people have had the same problem with Costco Tire Centers. Very unhappy customer. Would you Please advise me. 08/28/2013"
And then I went to Goodyear on 9/3/13. Had them to balance the tires. The manager said it had the wrong wheel weights on the wheels. It should be Metric weight. And after Goodyear balanced the wheels. The first time they got it right! At the Goodyear on Highway 58 Chattanooga, TN. Then I went to Costco, talked to one of the managers and the first thing he did is to offer to pay the bill from Goodyear after they couldn't get it right after several attempts. Then he wanted to take pictures of the damaged wheels. He wanted to bring the tire guy with him. The tire guy was ** that I've talked to several times about the vibration. ** started talking about wishing he had his tool to remove the weight that Goodyear just put on. I told him I didn't want him to touch the vehicle.
Then I went inside to do the claim report on the damaged wheels. ** then walked back out to the vehicle. The wife said not certain what he was doing. But after being told that I didn't want him to touch the vehicle! Had no business to go back out to my vehicle. Who knows what he did? Glad that I told my wife to stay with the vehicle not knowing what he might try. 9/4/13, I called Capital Toyota where the vehicle was purchased new. Wheels are $478.00 each. Times three damaged wheels equals $1434.00. Plus tax and mounting and balance is looking at $1650.00 total. For the damage that was done from Costco!

I have been buying tires for years at Costco. The other day, I replaced the brakes on my Charger, and had a hard time getting the wheel loose from the hub. I did not think much of it at the time, but yesterday, went to have two tires put on my truck. I had a tire damage by road debris and bought two replacement tires. My truck is not driven much and I put less the 2,000 miles on it a year, and most of them are in the winter.
At Costco, we got there at 10 AM and they said it would be an hour. We went in and did our shopping at Costco. After a while they called us and said they could not get the wheels off of the truck, except the right front, which had just been off the truck because of a wheel bearing being replaced by our mechanic. We went over and they basically gave up on it and said we could pick it up, which we did. We went to our regular mechanic ASE certified, worked at a Chrysler dealership for 20+ years, and after some work he managed to get the tires off of the truck. When he got them off, he said we needed to put anti seize on the cap of the hub so that this did not happen again. He put it on and then put the wheels back on and sent us on our way.
Here is where it gets bizarre.
When we got back to the Costco, they did not want to take us out of sequence, but we managed to get them to. They got the tires changed and I was walking over and checking on them every once in a while. One time when I walked over, I noticed that they had cleaned off the anti-seize compound from the hubs and had wire brushed it down to bare metal, as well as the tire that matted against that surface. At this point, it all became very clear to me as to why my Charger, and now my truck, had this problem. They were basically polishing the two steel parts down to nearly shiny metal and then bolting them together and then salt or road grim would get on them and they would basically rust together.
I informed them that they are creating the problem of not being able to get the wheels off of the car, and they said that it was their policy to ensure that there was no lubricating substance on the hub so that when the wheel was placed on the hub, it would not come off. I informed that it would not come off as long as you did not lubricate the threads of the bolts, but the anti-seize needs to be on there to prevent the wheel from rusting to the hub. They would not put anything back on and told me they had to clean everything off. I now have to remove all of the wheels and put anti-seize or something behind them on the hub so that I can change a tire if one ever goes flat. I also have to do it on my wife's car and my Charger. They also told me that my mechanic was an idiot and that he must not know what he is doing.
I will never go back to COSTCO for tire nor maintenance of my tire. They are creating situations where people will not be able to change their tire if it goes flat.

We have been proud Costco members for a long time. I did want to share my recent experience in the tire department at the Santa Clara (CA) location. I understand they were busy so I waited a few days to call in to follow up regarding my invoice. I called in every day to find out if the tires had arrived and each day I was told no. I called in on 9/10/2013 and I was told the tires had been there for a while but they failed to call me. Why was I given the wrong information when I called in to find the status of the tires?
He offered to give me a 4PM appointment. I was there sharp 4PM. I was told it would take max of an hour. I receive a phone call saying it will take up to 5:30PM or even beyond. At 5:50PM the car was done. The keys were hanging but nobody bothered to inform me as I sat there with my daughter until 6PM and I had to approach them and say I believe my car is done and I see the keys hanging. No apology. I was quite disgusted at how unorganized and the lack of any service period. I have always held Costco to a higher regard for the customer service. The whole experience was horrible to say the least. I will never use Costco tire service even if I have to pay more for tires outside as long as they provide at least some shred of service.

His attitude was outrageous. He told me that it was a brand new tire that he took it from a pile of tires and I asked about the skid marks on the tires, he simply evaded my questions. Finally, I had to escalate the issue to the manager of the store. He agreed to change the 2 left tires.
As I was driving the car with 4 new tires, the car was bouncing like a basketball. I took it back to Costco the next day, and the same guy was very arrogant and did not completely fix the issue. I am scared to drive my vehicle on the road now. I paid a huge amount of money to get 4 tires from Costco and I received a VERY bad service. I bought tyres from Costco here in Australia, and was happy. But seriously, in reply to Earl, you have got to be joking, right? They didn't dictate to you what tyres you could put on your car. The Government does. The ratings on the tyres are there for a reason. To stop ** like you putting oversize, undersize, or unsafe tyres on your car and going out and killing innocent people. The LOAD RATING that prevented Costco from selling you anything other than the Michelins is probably the MOST important rating on a tyre. A tyre with a rating of load rating of 100 can support a car "safely" of greater weight than can a tyre with a load rating of less, like 96 or 92.
Costco is not legally allowed to fit underrated tyres. If they do, and you crash, you can sue them for it. Your insurance company will wipe you, and then sue Costco, and you will probably die. The fact you choose to drive an old, and very heavy car obviously limits what is available to you. Besides, wouldn't a 1896 Mercedes have wooden wheels anyway????

After purchasing new tires from Costco this year I had noticed when I would drive on the Interstate going over 55 mph that my steering wheel would vibrate and my tires felt loose. (I don't drive on the interstate much since my work is about 5 miles away from where I live.) I took my car to an accredited Subaru Dealership had an alignment done and a wheel balance done on 08/03/13. The technician came out and told me that while the wheel will balance that the tires would waver when they were getting spin balanced. They thought it was a defect in all 4 of my tires and advised me to go back to where I purchased the tires and "have them check and possibly replaced." Keep in mind this dealership wasn't trying to make me purchase new tires.
I returned to Costco immediately that same day (08/03/13) after leaving the dealership noticing that although there was still some vibrations it wasn't as bad as it had been, but the issue hadn't been fixed. When my father & I meet with the customer service rep at Costco he immediately started to become irritated stating that we didn't have our tires balanced if we had an alignment done. When in fact we had just had both done. Long story short Costco claimed to have balanced my tires and didn't see anything wrong with them. We spoke to a Manager who didn't mention about anything about replacing and told us that we were at a standstill. We told him that we will be back if there are any more issues.
As we were on the Interstate the vibrations were back to where they were before I took my car into the dealership, needless to say Costco took my car back to where it had been before and I have basically wasted $159 getting my tires professional balanced at a dealership. Not saying the dealership had fixed the issue since there will still vibrations felt while driving down to Costco. The fact of the matter is that my tires aren't working properly and Costco is failing to realize this and is making this process difficult, especially since I getting ready to move cross country and do not want to be making that trip on faulty tires.

I have purchased Costco's Michelin tires for years. While the tires are excellent, trying to get them serviced is nearly impossible. It's first-come few-served - basically, if you don't arrive when the doors open, good luck at getting in (even for a flat repair). It is a huge hassle for people who already have a full schedule and not much extra time for countless trips to the Costco garage. The money you may save in tires and free road hazard is not worth the time it takes to get service. They don't book appointments, and they make no effort to fit you in. They are not paid on volume, just an hourly wage. After 15 years, I'm done with the hassle, and it feels great to call up my local Toyota, book an appointment, have shuttle service, and get the job done!
Costco needs to adjust the information they provide to members to make sure people understand the hassle that will be involved, and also the low level of competence that the service garage provides (inspect your car for body damage like scratches and ensure the lug nuts are tightened appropriately).

They told me if I want to get my tire rotation/balance for every 10,000 km, then I have to get to the shop at least 2 hours before it opens and if I don't get my tires rotate/balance every 10,000 km, the warranty will be void as they said that is the warranty obligation I have to do.
This is like they're selling tires without any warranty at all unless you have to spend two hours at least outside in the cold at the tire center to have to tire warranty coverage? I never have this terrible service from any big corporate before. I thought I would let you know I recently had a bad experience at Costco Tire in Colchester, VT. I don't usually complain in a public venue, however, just call this a cautionary tale. I purchased 4 Bridgestone Ecopia tire for my medium weight SUV Crossover. They did their thing, filled them with Nitrogen and off I went. One of the tire pressure regulators said I had low pressure so I went to Costco and they looked at it. They checked the seal on one of the tires and off I went. I had them rotated whenever I got the oil changed at 5,000 miles (full syn) and after about two cycles, I noticed they were down to 6/32nd. Off I go and I think one more trip to Costco for the tire pressure thing (they said false alarm because the pressure was OK. They didn't check the spare that time) and off I went.
The last time I went in, I was told by another garage that they were under 3/32nd on the outside edges. This was at 22,000 miles on a 60,000 mile guaranteed tire. I brought them to Costco and the guy said, "Yeah, they're pretty bad. Won't pass another inspection." I said, "Well at 22,000 mile, I would like to turn them in for the warranty prorated for the mileage driven." He said, "Can't do that because it looks like an inflation problem." I reminded him that I was in there three times for inflation problems and they sent me away. I had been checking them myself and making sure they were up to pressure. They held air fine. So because he did not like the way they prematurely worn out, he sent me away. I said, "So you will not help me and you are sending me away with these tires?" He said that's right!
Two things I caution you fellow consumers about: (1) Do not expect Costco Tire to stand behind their tire warranty; and (2) The Bridgestone Ecopia tires wear very rapidly (3x normal) even when driven easy.

The next day, I took my elderly aunt and son's fiance shopping via a highway. My car was making noises and was not handling as usual. I had to pull over in a parking lot as the noise became so loud and scary. The lug nuts on my driver's side front tires were completely loose, so loose that I had to take the lug wrench off and on the lugs 2 or 3 times before they were tight. I cannot believe this happened not once but twice! There should be someone checking the cars before they are released to the owners.

I went home and looked up the part at Rock Auto and it was available for $52.00 per tire. Costco removed $200.00 worth of parts from my car and said it did not come equipped with them. Don't ever buy anything from their tire department. They're a bunch of crooks.

Every time I went to the tire center, the attitude of the staffs was always ignorant and rude. They never fill my tires with nitrogen, like what policy says. And they do not do a good job at installation, scratched and left ding/dent on my new wheels. If you can find a better or same price of tires, why do you get tires from Costco?

Most of the following complaints are not about whining. From my understanding, I have frequently heard about how bad the Costco staff due to the "average customers" from the co-workers, friends, and even sales associates from Costco. This is just about what comes around and goes around. That's why some of the customers react "fiercely" to those cranky staff. They never know such a simple principle. They are running a monopolistic business; there are no other competitors in the market. Why do they care about "customer services"? It is just how worse comes to worst. If you are being blessed by monopoly, why do you bother to improve the customer relationship management, if there's any for Costco.
I was trying to order a set of tires because of the $70 off promotion. (By the way, it is just another hype; the tire manufacturer always has this offer for those buying a set of 4 tires between October and November every year.) The sales associate told me that they got none left in stock and the tires should be ready for the next 2 days. Before that, I called and checked with them 2 days before. Anyways, 2 days later, I lined up and waited at the store for a number before 6am and returned there before 8am (This is another stupidity for Costco Tire Centre NW at Calgary, Alberta - to make things more complicated.). When my turn came, the sales associate said, "There's no more now, but you can go to another Costco to get them; then, we can install them for you."
Well, of course, we can all get things from other places; but that's your company's matter but not ours. If the tire centre doesn't have the tires in stock, just admit the fault and apologize to the customer. It's true. They are unapologetic and like being impudent. They do things in a way as if the Communist Party in China never admits their faults, never listens to the complaints, never corrects mistakes, and never apologizes to others. If you shop at Costco next time, think about it again. They seem to have a better deal, but what they do is to have the things slightly bigger in size and to charge extra invisibly. Most go-with-the-flow customers wouldn't realize that. So if you have other choices, why shop at a dictatorial company.

We bought new tires two weeks ago because of a fantastic promotion. We got all the info needed, but we didn't have any cash so that we needed to come back the next day to pay. When I returned, there was a long line of customers and a cranky sales associate was yelling that they were not taking anymore work for the day. After being shooed away several times, I persistently walked up to the desk, presented a sheet with my tire info on it and said I just needed to pay and order the tires. She was rude and unapologetic. I asked to wait for the next till instead of waiting for her. The second sales associate was the same who had helped us the previous night. He was great. We were assured that the tires would be in within 5-10 business days (which they were). Concerned about the treatment of people in line, I specifically asked about getting the new tires on once they came in. The associate said I could make an appointment for an afternoon and avoid this treatment. He explained that this line was for people without an appointment. We ordered our tires on October 5.
On Tuesday, October 9, I received a phone message letting me know that my tires were in. The message indicated that I should call the tire center. I called every break I had on Tuesday to Friday. Each time I would get their automated message. And each time I had no opportunity to leave a message of my own. Finally, on Friday, I dropped into the tire center to book my appointment. When I walked up to the desk, the same crank sales associate laughed at me. She said that there were no appointments and that as of October 9th they had changed their hours and process. She explained that the only way to get my tires on would be to line up at 6:00 am (the tire center opens at 8:00 am). I asked if I could simply get a refund on the install and take my tires. She said no and that this was a part of the promotion. I asked if I could just take my tires and forfeit the install. She brushed me off for the phone.
I explained that I had purchased the tires with the basis that I would be able to get them on. She said that this wasn't her problem. I also asked why, if they weren't accepting appointments, I had been told in my initial message to call the tire center to make an appointment. She couldn't answer me. I also asked why they hadn't answered their phone ever during my many attempts. She shared that they were too busy for phones. (See above where she stalled our conversation so that she could answer the phone - I thought they were too busy for phones?) Concerned about driving on very bald tires, I asked if it would be possible to leave my car in the lot. Again, she indicated that this was not her problem and that if I left my car it would be towed. I left on Friday very upset.
On Saturday morning, I lined up at 6:15 am. After approximately 30 minutes, a security guard came and told me and others in line that they had already given out their numbers for the day and that we should all go home. Many of us thought he was joking. He wasn't. On Sunday morning (today), I lined up at 4:15 am. I waited 1 hour and 45 minutes in the cold. Waiting in cars wasn't an option as there were more cars than spots (even at 4:00am?!). Approximately 30 of us huddled in the Costco entrance waiting for them to give out numbers. Interestingly, it was in this line up that a man shared that his wife had been able to make an appointment earlier that week. Isn't it the lack of appointments that brought us all here in the first place?
At 6:00 am, they gave numbers to those that they could. Not everyone received a number. Again at this point, I asked if I could leave a key so that I wouldn't have to come back in 2 hours. The sales associate (not a tire expert and probably just a warehouse stocker) said that they couldn't do that. All she was doing was making a list and that if I didn't come back by 8:00, I would forfeit my spot.
I think that this kind of treatment of customers is absolutely ridiculous. First, if this had been the process when I purchased the tires, I wouldn't have purchased the tires! Making people line up at below freezing temperatures for 2 hours before they even give out numbers (4 hours before the store even opens) is absolutely intolerable. If it's that impossible to get appointments in place, the least they could do is make the process more customer friendly. In my case, I took a trip to the store Friday (the attempt to book the appointment), one on Saturday (first attempt to get the tires installed), and 4 unnecessary trips on Sunday (one to wait at 4:00 am, one to bring the car back at 8:00, and then a cab to bring me someplace warm while they did the work, and another cab to get back for the tires after completion). There are so many ways that that situation could have been improved! We're grateful for a good deal. But I don't think that saving $50 is worth the headache that this has caused. In the future, we will not be using Costco for our tires. I'd rather pay dealership prices than go through this again.

When I bought the tires, I was assured that the original tires could be reinstalled when I required for a fee, because those 4 tires were dealer installed. I made an appointment for Oct. 4th and waited in the store for 1.5 hours. I was told when I checked that they could not put on my original Michelins because they were not V speed rated. The dealer mounted tires are T rated. Since the T tires are rated for 118 miles per hour whereas the V rating they said I must have was for 149 miles per hour, I knew I was being played for a fool. I was dissatisfied, but was patronized and made to feel as if I was uneducated by all the staff involved. This made me angry and I got my money back by sarcastic smiling and ridiculing employees.
The speed rating in the owner's manual has a V in the sample. Where it is a sample, it is not the mandatory standard for the car. This double talk and drive to sell 4 new tires instead of servicing what I paid for is wrong. It is also by appearance a Costco policy and encouraged to ridicule customers. I witnessed the same type of treatment by the supervisor of the tire shop with another customer, who they refused to put two tires of the same size on the back while putting two newer tires on the front. This department does not fill the nitrogen in tires, but makes customers line up and fill the nitrogen in tires themselves.
The staff in the tire department in this store is ignorant and their attitude is not professional. I am not only dissatisfied, I am angry that as a long standing customer shopping in 5 different provinces, I was treated so rudely.

On August 14, 2012, I purchased two new tires for my Chrysler Pacifica from the Costco at 2855 Jordan Court, Alpharetta, GA. Immediately after the tire replacement, the check tire pressure system light on the dashboard illuminated. I checked the tire pressure and all four tires indicated about 35psi. On September 12, I noticed one of the inner hub caps had fallen off, so I checked the other three wheels and found that one of the other hub caps was missing the wire bracket support which reinforces the plastic clasps.
On September 23rd, I returned to Costco and showed the attendant the hub cap with the missing retention wire, and asked if they had the part. He looked, returned and said no. I explained about the light on the dashboard to check the tire pressure system. I left the car with him and he added more air to the 35psi already in the tires. When I returned, he said he added more air and took it for a test drive, and the check tire pressure system light was not illuminated. I reiterated that the light was on at 35psi in each tire, so he shrugged and said that "He never saw the light."

During the week of September 27th, I visited the service center at the Costco store located at 200 Federal Road Brookfield, Connecticut 06804-2527 to have my tires rotated. I waited at the service desk for about 5-10 minutes while an employee by the name of ** stood there while I was in plain sight and totally ignored my presence - all this time speaking casually to another employee who was not visible. As I looked about in disbelief, he simply stood there and acted as if I was invisible, despite the fact that this person was fully dressed in his service uniform. Later at his own convenience, he notified the other staff who was at the back of the store by shouting "Hey, hey" at him and alerted him that someone was at the front desk.
The staff he alerted was very professional and moved quickly to assist me. However, the individual by the name of ** then walked up closer to the service desk in a confrontational manner and rudely interrupted the conversation to warn me that it would be in my best interest to act better if I expect to receive good service whenever I return to the tire service center. I asked him jokingly if he was serious or was just kidding around since I was very patient and was very sure that I wasn't rude or offensive to anyone in any manner. However, he then went on to find it in his best interest to try and scold me about my actions, which now seems ridiculous since he was a uniformed employee standing in plain sight of a customer and never acknowledged that customer (me) at all.
I then became defensive and informed him to excuse himself since I was being helped by a valid employee, who had way more manners than he did. He stood around unpleasantly before warning me under his breath about the fact that my vehicle does come into that center to be serviced, which I took as a threat. This remark prompted me to make a complaint to the manager on duty by the name of ** and also to file this complaint.
Of all my years of being on my parent Costco membership during college, until I entered the working world and now have my own membership, I have never encountered such rudeness and unprofessional behavior from anyone in your organization, especially a person who will have the opportunity to touch the vehicle I use to drive my family around. I presently feel uncomfortable with his warning and will consider having my vehicle service elsewhere despite having a service contract with Costco.

I just purchased two new tires from Costco today for the wife's car. While shopping, I went to go check and see how the car was doing. I saw them rotating the older back tires to the front. I know this is their policy and is the correct way to do it. What was not correct was the 40 psi that they put in the tire (recommended is 30 psi). Also, there’s the sound of an impact gun driving the lugs home with no torque stick - never mind the torque wrench. So if I was just an average Joe, my new tires would wear out prematurely from over inflation (never mind the danger) and my new rotors (all four) would be warped. This is the last time I will buy tires from Costco. Their techs may have the training, but they sure are missing the pride in their work.

I tried to order the tires for my vehicle online since they do not stock them and there was a sale if you ordered them by a certain date. The website kept going down and would not let me order the tires. I ended up driving to the Littleton Costco (Quincy and Wadsworth) and speaking with the store manager to get the tires ordered. They assured me that the tires would be ordered and they would call me when they came. Two weeks later, today, I checked in at the store and was told that they didn't have my order on the computer. Really! How can that be? Another clerk checked a book and sure enough my name was there and the tires had arrived.
Good grief! After all the poor service and lack of any concern on their part, not to mention all the bad reviews about Costco refusing to rotate tires or fix any issues under warranty, I have decided to give my money to Discount Tires. I have had great service with them and they always honor any warranty with a smile. In conclusion, the tires at Costco were attractive because they were so much less than other places I checked. But after the inconvenience of having to order, the wait with no response from the employees for 2 weeks, and the general “whatever” attitude, paying a little more for better service is worth it to me.

Everyone that complains about Costco installing new tires on the rear axle, I again recommend that you do some research. It is done to protect you in wet weather driving situations. It doesn't matter if your car is front or rear wheel drive, they should be placed on the rear. If you think otherwise, you're wrong! Everyone that complains about Costco not honoring warranties, I suggest you stop blaming others for your mistakes. Your tires wore out because your alignment is off, which caused the inner or outer shoulders to wear prematurely and that is your car's fault, not the tire's fault. You never rotated your tires and the fronts wore out prematurely. Well, that's your fault and not the tires. Take responsibility for your mistakes and don't blame Costco.
Yes, certain tires do last longer than others, but a tire (regardless if it has no mileage warranty or 100K mile warranty) will last based on how you maintain them. It's your responsibility to do so. I've been buying tires from Costco for as long as I can remember. I am an extremely satisfied member and appreciate the fact that Costco requires their members to purchase the correct tire for their cars. After all, the only thing between your car and the asphalt is your tires. So tires are pretty important, don't you think? Thank you Costco. If only all tire centers could do what you do.

I told him the wear was in the middle of the tire and occurred at 8 thousand miles. I told him the tire pressure on the 265/75/r16, which they sold me, said air pressure was 44psi, not 35psi. I also said that most of the tire wear stopped when I set pressure at 44 psi. They said the pressure on the door said 35psi, and it did. But that was for the 245/75/r16.
I believe the warranty is 50 thousand miles, and I'm under the miles. The tire wear occurred at about 8 thousand miles in the middle. The tires were no good after 8 thousand miles. I recently went to Costco to have my Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires rotated and replaced a bad valve stem that was leaking air. The Costco manager refused to do it because of a Costco policy that will not allow him to touch any tires that are over 10 years old. The tires are in excellent shape and show no damage or deterioration whatsoever. They still have lots of tread on them because I rarely drive the car (1997 Honda Prelude Type SH) they are mounted on. I took it to the Honda dealership and they replaced the valve stem and rotated them with no problems. The Costco manager was rude, confrontational and argumentative. I had another Costco tire manager tell me that I should not "lecture to him". Can you believe that? Who is the customer here? They also broke off one of my lug nuts due to over-torquing.
I do not know what's happening to Coscto these days, but they do not seem to take their customer service as seriously as they once did, at least not when it comes to their tire dept. I think they have gotten too big and too profitable, and do not see a need to focus on such matters. First, let me start off by stating that for everything else, I love Costco! I will never buy tires from them again, however. I purchased four BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires P215/65 R15 for my 1999 Toyota Sienna XLE in 2008. Within a few thousand miles, the fronts were wearing out more rapidly than the rears.
Costco refused to rotate the tires so they would wear more evenly because their policy wouldn't allow it. I guess if one pair of tires is worn a certain amount more than the other pair, they will put the better pair on the rear. They claim that is what the tire manufacturers recommend and showed me a pamphlet from Michelin.
I asked Toyota about it and they claim it's wrong. I asked several mechanics that I trust and they say they've never heard of it. I had Toyota rotate the tires so I could get more life out of them, but when I went back to Costco to get some air, they rotated the tires (despite me specifically telling them not to!), putting the more worn tires back on the front, thus guaranteeing that they will wear out much faster than the rears.
I finally had enough and decided to purchase four new Cooper CS4 tires from Alan's Automotive & Diesel in Colorado Springs (at a much better price than I could get at Costco or Discount Tire). The CS4 had good reviews from buyers and I'm hoping they will last much longer than the BF Goodrich's. My original Firestone Affinity tires lasted nine years and over 45 thousand miles. I barely got four years and 28 thousand miles out of the BF Goodrich tires purchased from Costco. I found the Costco tire guys in Colorado Springs to be rude & condescending. Needless to say, if he was not driving a Volvo and is an avid body builder, which I believe helped to steer the vehicle to safety, he wouldn't be alive today. The cause of the accident was either the lug nuts were torqued too tight or not at all.
Last week, I purchased four tires again from Costco to only have the mechanics not properly mount and balance my tires. I found this out from another car auto shop, which was doing a four-wheel alignment for me which is something Costco does not provide in Massachusetts. My belief shared with the store manager is that I don't believe the Costco mechanics are being held responsible for their actions and corporate has not done anything to remedy the lack of their attention to detail or workmanship amongst their mechanics. By the way, the car auto shop manager asked, “Why would go back there again?” I agreed with him that it wasn't wise on my part. I proceeded to justify my actions by saying that I renewed my membership about two months ago because I preferred their everyday consumables better than BJ’s Wholesale. Jeez people, stop whining about Costco and the tires or service you get from them. In reference to a few complaints, if you had been in the business, then you would definitely know the difference between v-rated and h-rated tires and you would want your kid on the correct ones. When people whine about the speed rating of tires, then why did they buy a vehicle that takes performance tires to begin with? And all the whining about rotations, if you fail to maintain your vehicle according to a schedule either by Costco or by your owners manual, then for God's sake do not blame Costco for not rotating your tires if the fronts are down to 2/32 and the rears are new.
Do some research on this instead of blaming Costco for your lack of maintenance. It is always someone else's fault, stand up and take responsibility for your own actions once. And Costco does not use anti-seize on anything no matter what you saw and most of the time when you come in with your fancy rims and then try and blame Costco for scratching them, you are only trying to scam a new set of rims from them. If you paid 400 bucks to have one stud replaced, then you were assuredly overcharged and then it was not a reputable shop as you say, they were a ripoff place at least. Your mechanic might have been a mechanic for 30 years but that does not mean he knows squat about tires. Kinda like saying your general MD is qualified to be a brain surgeon. Tires are a very specialized field at Costco and the techs go through more training than any other tire shop or dealer out there. So at least before you go crying on a forum, do some research on the subject. Rant over, now back to your normally scheduled whining.
