I found Armstrong online and I was looking at reviews from different companies. Armstrong's garages are more industrial. They hold up better to strong winds and everything and I get Santa Ana winds. I chose to go with them because they had a lot of great reviews. The bad reviews that they had seemed like people didn't understand the contract. It has been a great experience and I love my new garage. The steel is still going up and everything went really smoothly. The engineer was really helpful. I would definitely recommend Armstrong.

I talked with a sales rep briefly and gave him the basic things of what I was looking for. From there, they pass you to a project manager to where I can finalize details. My main complaint is that they ask you to make a deposit on it before you actually get a finalized price. When they pass you to the project manager, you're gonna add doors and all these other things into it, and their price is gonna go up considerably at that point. Once you've given them a deposit, you don't have a choice. You're either gonna lose your deposit or you're gonna pay whatever price they're gonna add on to these additional things, which I personally had read reviews about it and knew that that was gonna happen. So I had everything laid out what I want and I didn't end up with that issue, but it could have been an issue.
When you're dealing with the salesman, they don't tell you that the price is going to change dramatically by putting certain other things like roof vents, which would change the roof loading capability. I have some roof vents and I said I was gonna put them on there, but the project manager said they were gonna have to change the price now. So I told them not to do it and that I was gonna stay with what I got. Overall, Armstrong Steel was very good to work with, and the project manager was very helpful. She dealt with several things that were going on and handled them really quickly and efficiently.
When I got the building, I looked and I thought the main supports were gonna be galvanized. So I went back and read everything and realized that I had scanned it and not realized what they were saying. The galvanized main supports were one of the reasons I chose Armstrong over the others. But I got a little bit of a misunderstanding on reading some of it and thinking that I was getting galvanized instead of grey oxide on the main supports. It was my mistake.

I lived in Colorado for 32 years and I’ve seen a lot of Armstrong Steel's buildings. They seem to have the best reputation in the industry, so we chose them for the business. The representative that we dealt with was great and was very responsive to my calls, texts and emails. She worked with me on a couple of issues we had and got them straightened out. Everything went well.

I needed a building for working on cars, personal stuff, and a meeting site. Aside from being a little workshop, I also needed it as a storage. I called around a lot and out of all the companies, I went with Armstrong Steel. At the beginning, their customer service was good and the salesperson was pretty cool. Another reason why I went with them was because the quality of the parts was good. It kinda stinks though that I'm in Florida and Armstrong Steel is in Colorado, so there's a distance thing about getting parts. But I still went with them as the other metal building company that I was gonna go with initially had red iron steel and it's lower quality stuff.
Also, the price from Armstrong Steel compared to them was a little bit more, but they didn’t wanna work with me until I put a payment down. They didn’t wanna answer any of my questions either and it didn’t seem like it was worth their time. I guess they thought I was just going around getting quotes, which I'd do when it comes to this kind of stuff. It’s expensive and one thing I didn’t realize was how quickly the cost of things got up. Especially for the foundation and all the dirt. I had to buy $2,000 worth of dirt to put under that thing and there's a lot of unforeseen stuff, so you’re trying to save money.
But once I had paid, my experience with Armstrong Steel's customer service reps became irritating as far as the information I was given and the individual I was working with. I had emailed multiple times with questions about delivery, what I needed, and everything else, and I did not get answers back. I even told the individual that if they couldn't answer the question, please refer me to somebody that could. And it ended up until I got ticked off about it before anything was done. Based off of that situation, if I need parts later, I feel like it would just be a pain.
All in all, Armstrong Steel's customer service needs to improve on getting back with people and answering questions. And the ones I had weren’t stupid questions. But I know a lot of metal building companies in general, and I'm not trying to dog on Armstrong Steel, but once they get your money, it’s like they've forgotten after everything else and that’s about it. Other than that, the building is good and nice. It's very high-quality stuff and the price was decent for what it was.

I looked around and Armstrong Steel was a good price and they were close to the location that I was gonna build at, so I went with them. The delivery went well. They delivered it when they said they would. It's just I should have chosen a different time of the year to get it because snow kinda made it hard for me to do what I needed to do. It wasn't too much on them though. It was more on me. I haven't gotten a chance to really do too much with it. Everything's still packed up because it's snowing in the area that I plan on building so it's hard to get it together. Armstrong tried to help me a lot so I appreciate that.

The structural steel we got from Armstrong Steel came loaded with rust. And when I sent them a note about it, they said it was because they shipped it during a snow storm. They said they were sorry about that and that they'd send me a couple gallons of paint. It was really a ridiculous answer because now, I have to deal with about $3000 fix in the field.
Supposedly, Armstrong Steel is higher-quality, and some of the things they said that they had were gonna be higher-quality. But I really haven't seen much that shows that they're higher-quality so far. The building’s okay. We got most of the building up, and at the end of the day, the building will be okay but it’s nothing special. It’s not like they claim. Their quality and their dealing with their quality issues are not okay. It’s gonna cost me 10% more to fix their lack of care and quality.
Reviewed Feb. 13, 2020
I don't feel great about Armstrong. I feel like there was a significant bait and switch problem. I went with them thinking they were the least expensive company, but it turned out they were not, so that was frustrating. I gave them very elaborate drawings of what I wanted to accomplish, and they looked at the drawings then gave me a quote for $30,000. And I committed to that. But when they went back and did the engineering, it was gonna be $130,000. We went around and around, and did 20 something iterations trying to get the cost down. They got it down to 80,000 but that's not acceptable. The contract was really clear that once I committed, I was stuck. So then, they called in their top gun engineers and figured out a way to get it down to 60,000, which I accepted even though that was a long ways from 30,000.
They delivered all the engineered parts on time, but there was some damage. They were very slow in responding to the damaged parts. I finally received the repaired parts but I have not assembled the building yet. I've been very diplomatic and complimentary because I wanted their cooperation trying to repair things, but so far, I'm not thrilled.

Brooke was the first person that I talked to, and then Laurel was the project manager. I met with the manufacturing manager, and visited the plant and saw how the vertical columns and trusses went together and were welded, drilled and fabricated. I like the process. It went real well. I’m negotiating right now another building with them.
All the bolted holes in the barn and in its structure and frame all lined up. The steel went on with no issues. I like the fact that there’s no poles or steel inside the building, including the entire structure. You don’t have to contend with poles like a pole barn or another building. The quality was good. I liked it. But the instruction manual wasn’t clear on a lot of the detail. The structure itself was fine. The attachment of the sheet metal and how the sheet metal goes together was fine, but the trim package was very difficult.

Armstrong Steel was cooperative in pricing. I had a business warehouse project and the quality has been good so far. The sales reps have been very cooperative and they worked with us well. The delivery went well, but there was a little confusion about the process. The driver didn’t understand that he was supposed to give us a bill of lading, so we had to have some conversations back with Armstrong because we don’t ever pay for something that we don’t have some verification as to what it is. Anyhow, we got it resolved.

It was convenient having Armstrong Steel. The reps were willing to work with us and explain things, more or less answer questions. We were able to get the design we talked about. And when the materials were delivered we were able to unload the truck and take care of it without a problem.

I've got a large property and I'm looking at putting some barns and some agricultural buildings on it. I vetted a couple of different companies that manufactured steel buildings and Armstrong was a good solution. Their sales representative was decent enough and though there were a couple of hiccups, going with them was a smooth transition.
I wasn't very pleased with the condition of the delivery resources which seemed to be very convoluted as to whether the delivery was gonna be in two or three trucks. Also, the off-loading procedure for them was a disaster. They took an extremely long period of time to load them because they were not palletized. Also, they required a sizeable forklift to off-load. Things had to be unloaded by hand almost piece by piece. They allotted a very small amount of time for the driver to wait. Fortunately, the drivers were very compassionate and saw that that the off-loading was not achievable.

Our experience with Armstrong Steel did not go well. There were so many things that were wrong with our order and it put us in such a timeline crunch that we still don’t have our building completely closed in. Our initial delivery date was supposed to be on July 11th. It happened on July 25th because the panels that we had ordered were not the orders that were shipped or were getting ready to be shipped, so they had to change the dates. Then we got the wrong color panels, and the screw fasteners for those panels were not the same color as the panels. We had ordered charcoal gray panels and we received slate gray panels, but the screws were charcoal gray.
The interior panels that we had were supposed to have been one kind of a white and it came different than what we had ordered, and the screws for those panels were not the same color. We ended up keeping the same panels that were shipped to us but had to buy different screws. I had told Armstrong about the problems with those and we never got those exchanged. So, we just ended up having to pay for them ourselves.
Our windows were first supposed to be delivered, but it was delayed because there was supposedly damage caused to the windows when they were loading it onto the truck. Then we got another shipment of the windows, and the crate that they were in were so damaged that we couldn’t even unload those from the truck. I called Armstrong to see if we could get the panels sent back to the manufacturer to have them check that out because we couldn’t accept the panels in the damage that they were in. There was nobody at Armstrong to tell me what to do, and so I decided I better cancel and not accept that order. And so, they said that because we didn’t accept those, we had forfeited the right to get those windows even though we had paid for them.
Then we had other pieces of framing that were wrong. There were angled steel at 90 degrees and it should’ve been at a 8/12 pitch. We had ordered specific decorative lights for the outside, but they sent us security lights instead. I told them, and they said, “These are decorative.” But they weren’t even the same as to what they had pictured in their catalog. There were so many different things that went wrong with our project, and we got no response. They would not help us out in any way. I’ve got so many emails of all of the conversations that took place.
I contacted the attorney general for Washington State and they sent them a letter, and it went nowhere. They said that they were dropping the investigation and that I could try to fight it on my own. But I don’t have the money to do that. I've lost so much money on the project already. I had to buy my own windows. I had to buy my own fasteners. I had to buy my own steel angle. Armstrong said that I had forfeited because I had to purchase them on my own. But it was holding me up so much I had to because Washington state gets so much rain in the wintertime. And now, we’re trying to dodge storms trying to get the darn building closed up.
We’re still in the process of trying to get the building enclosed. We can’t finish it because I've ran out of funds. I was really hoping for a better outcome, and it’s really been distressing. We had a bit of trouble with the framing. We had some tabs that were welded onto the steel framing for connections for different parts that some were in the wrong places. We had to do our own welding to make the corrections. They were backing plates for x-bracing with cables in the sidewalls and the backing plates were on the wrong sides. There was one clip that was one inch off out of place and we had to cut that off and weld it back on. It was for connecting joists. There was another thing on our paneling. We were supposed to have PBU panels for the roof and we received PBR panels instead. I think our building is gonna turn out looking good, but it’s not the building that we really had ordered. I was very dissatisfied.

Armstrong Steel offered a reasonable price for the buildings, and everything went well. We had the deliveries, and that was a challenge. It was so messed up with the trucking that trucks were just showing up when they weren’t supposed to, and then they told me they had X amount of trucks coming. Three days later, we had another truck call and say they were coming. That was quite a task, having trucks come up at night and all sorts of different things going on with the delivery. We had a multiple delivery of three large buildings, so it was a little bit different than one. Of course, all of the sundries and the bolts were in big boxes, so there’s really no way to take all that out and go through everything, which I haven’t done yet. But it’s gonna be what it’s gonna be.

I liked what Armstrong Steel showed on the internet. I also liked what they said when I talked to them. I’m comfortable with using them. I have a personal building project and the steel are still on the ground. We delivered it three trucks half a day and it went well. However, I’m having an issue with the part numbers not matching up. I don’t know if some of the steel that I received is correct. I also don’t know if everything aligns up and if we don’t have headaches in the process of getting it up because they didn’t get the holes right or they didn’t get things built correctly lengthwise or widthwise. As long as everything matches up, we’ll be good.

I was looking for a good steel structure. I saw that Armstrong Steel was guaranteed for 50 years. I don’t live in Colorado, although I hope to rectify that next summer, and I was looking for something that had a good reputation, and I scanned the internet, and Armstrong Steel was what I came up with. We're still in the process of erecting the buildings, and the delay was not on Armstrong’s part. It was on mine trying to coordinate all the different subcontractors. The steel got delivered and that went perfectly.
I do know from the initial process, when I signed the initial contract, which was in December of 2018, I had a couple of changes that had to be made, and unfortunately, Armstrong Steel charged me additional. It was one that I could understand. It was irritating to me at that time, but I tried to put that in my rearview mirror ‘cause there was nothing I was gonna do about it. But it has gone pretty well with Armstrong Steel. I would possibly need to put a warehouse up, and possibly another building equal to the one that I had purchased, but I wanna make sure we walk or crawl before we start running. I’m not willing to do any further expansion ‘til we get things settled.

My experience with Armstrong Steel hasn’t been good. I wasn’t very happy with how they did things. They didn’t give me a promise date for delivery, but they acted like there were some deliveries, and they never met those times. They wouldn’t return phone calls to the point where I was cussing mad and screaming at everybody, and I already had $15,000 down on a $40,000 something purchase. And then, the time they set up for the delivery was way past what I thought it would be. But I didn’t have it in writing, so that was my fault. But they delivered it to me in the winter and I can’t build it ’til spring. I’m in Colorado and I wanted them to keep it there or just wait and deliver it then, but they said they couldn't save the price for me. I suggested to them, “Sell one at the other price and then save mine for another price if the metal was really gonna get more expensive or less,” which I don’t think was the case at all, but I don't know that for a fact.
So, it was just sitting outside. And then, they wouldn’t answer some calls or return calls because they got confused with each other about what was missing or not missing in the kit, and then there were some stuff I didn’t wanna unpack until I could build it. They said they couldn’t give me a break for that. So, if there's something missing, I'm out of luck there. I wasn’t very happy with that either. They’re not high on my list now. The people have been nice, but if you have $12,000 sitting there, you expect a phone call in 24 hours.
Then I got another $40,000 that have been sitting here waiting to pay, and then I can't build it. It's all sitting outside. I had it covered, but I'm not happy with that. I wouldn’t recommend them to somebody else now. I went to the factory where they build it and I feel good about the quality, but I'm not gonna see anything ‘til I build it now. I'm building a very large garage and restoration shop for cars. There's a 27 x 55 storage area where I could store cars on top of each other. So, it's 17 feet high. And then, I have a 30 x 30 car restoration area where I can paint and work on them.
Armstrong Steel try to make things up, but they gotta do it in a time frame that’s manageable. That’s something I don’t get. And they don’t get a garage like this. I've been saving and waiting to do a garage like this for 10 or 12 years. I can't build it ‘til the next year. But they didn’t have it. On their offense, they never put it in writing, which to me, was kinda sneaky, but it's probably in there somewhere. People should get everything in writing, especially delivery date.

With Armstrong Steel, I thought I was getting more than what I got. I had ordered a bigger door for the rest of the building as well as all my doors. However, that door wasn't included. So, I had to pay another $5,000 for it. Also, they only had enough gutters for the front and the back of the building. They didn't have any gutters for the side. So, we had to buy additional sidings locally. When I placed my order, I thought my building was gonna be complete. Also, the person who did my order for me told me everything I needed to buy. When I ordered doors, I expected all the doors that I needed to be in the order. Armstrong needs to make sure that the buyer has everything they need before they send the order out.

From the very beginning, he said that they would get a project manager and everything that will help me get through the whole permitting process and those were not true. All the project manager did was try to upsell me additional items to the building. They didn’t really provide any true assistance going through the permitting process or understanding the process. They never even gave me any kind of information about how to find a contractor to direct it. I had to do all that myself.
The project was an agriculture storage building. It's now built and it took four months. The quality of the steel was pretty good. The website of Armstrong Steel says everything goes together fine and everything is just right but it was absolutely not. I had clips that were in the wrong spots. I had to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to prove that. It took over a week to resolve and then all they did was send me a clip, expect me to go out and find a certified welder to install it. If I would have really gone with the way that they would have, I still wouldn’t have my building built. I never talked to the sales guy after he sold me the building. It was a disaster after that. But I talked to the project manager, and then the project manager handed me off to an after-delivery kind of a team. They were responsive to a point but I always had to follow up. Their steel looks to be in good working order. However, I have learned afterward that if you don't buy the building from a contractor, you can't get it stood up. I just wish I had known that prior to contracting with Armstrong Steel. I was not able to find a local contractor that was willing to put up a building that they didn't personally order. Apparently, there's a substantial amount of profit that the contractor can make off ordering the building. The reps were right there for helping and guiding, and it was good. I had a lot of questions and they answered them.

We’ve got Armstrong off of a website looking for a steel building and got a 30 X 40 steel building with the roll-up doors in it. The cost was good and competitive so we chose them compared to the other buildings. But it was difficult to work with their reps. Dealing with a large company like this, we have a purchase order system, and they were not very forthcoming or easy to work with when we were trying to pay them. They were really insistent upon the type of method. It was cash only, period. And that wasn’t determined until we were well in the process. So we had to jump through a lot of hoops to get the corporate office to give them an open check. I probably won’t go with them anymore for anymore buildings for that reason. They need to work on their ability to accept payment methods.
But as far as me working with them, I wanted stamped drawings for the state of Virginia, and they were able to produce professionally stamped drawings. They were also able to put all the requirements for the building permit. So everything else was great. As far as working with their engineering staff, getting things that we needed done, it was awesome. It’s just that it was a huge pain to actually pay for the building.

Armstrong Steel has a good website and it seems pretty easy to work with them. We bought two building on Black Friday deal and they were pretty good at selling and saying that the price of steel was gonna go up and all that stuff. We're residential people, so it's not like we're building buildings all the time. So, I think it's good. We knew going in that it would be like three times as much to actually put the building up, and that's not even finishing out the inside, as it was just for what we paid to Armstrong. However, as a homeowner that's purchasing a metal building and not a contractor and doesn't have experience building, I felt like they made it seem like it was gonna be much easier than it really is. I don't necessarily think they didn't disclose enough, but we just didn't know enough. So we've had our metal building sitting on our property since April.
Armstrong Steel said, "Oh, yeah, we're gonna have this engineer's plan, it's gonna be ready to go, it's fantastic. So then, when I go to get the permits for the building, I didn't realize there was no plan for the foundation. So not only did I have to go find another engineer, I also could not find anyone local that would do it in the next six months because there's so much construction going on in my area that I can't even find anyone to help us build. And they made it sound like, "You could do it yourself." Yeah, right, not even close.
I had to find another engineer that was certified in my state, to make an engineer plan. So I ended up finding somebody online that just does metal buildings. They were able to do the foundation plan and that was another submission process. I guess, every county is different. Armstrong Steel doesn't do the foundations at all, but who knew. So here we are, ready to get going and then I have to go get this done and that takes months. And then, I ask them, "Do you do any of the interior stuff?" "Well, no." And so I have to go get another engineer that can do an engineering plan just for the plumbing, because I wanna do base plumbing. And so, then it takes another four months in my county because I wanted to put a bathroom in this building. It has already been so much more of a hassle than I thought it was gonna be.
Nevertheless, I feel like they were really helpful. My contractors and everyone that's looked at the plan were really impressed that I was able to customize some things. We engineered them to have these huge windows and overhang and adjust some things. Everyone was so knowledgeable, on top of things. I feel like I got a better design and a better product than I would have. I had some really specific engineering and it might have been tricky to do that with a local company.
Also one of the reasons I went with Armstrong is because compared to all the companies here, they all do the red iron, that already looks rusty. Armstrong has a galvanized steel that doesn't rust. I thought for inside of pool enclosure, that would be much better. And not everyone had that option. Once the sale was already in place, the project manager was very attentive and they were very quick to respond, very helpful, and helped to make sure we had everything what we need. They were upfront with how much each of our upgrade was going to cost. So that part of it, I was very satisfied with. The part that I was less satisfied with was that I felt like I made a rushed decision and didn't know what we were getting into, and probably we were not ready to purchase the building at the time we did.

The overall building has gone just fine. For all the bragging your company does about how high of quality materials you use I can't tell your building apart from any of the other steel buildings I've been in. You just have an average building. I felt the sales team did just fine and were honest with me with their understanding of the product. I was very pleased with Sue **'s promptness to answer my questions. I'd of given you five stars at this point. Once I saw the overhead doors I knew they were trash. Matt ** tried to refund me for the doors but couldn't I felt you should have stood behind the product you sold (whether you make doors or not). I could have had a R 19 metal on metal door and had it installed cheaper than what I bought your ** doors for.
Whoever orders your doors obviously hasn't looked into new products in the last three years. I'd of given you three stars at this point for not standing behind your product. Kade ** did just barely the bare minimum his job required. He never returned a phone call. I know e-mailing eliminates the he said she said but I called him hoping to get more clarification because it easier to have someone explain something than just read about it. He made it very clear to me that he didn't give a rat's ** about my project. This is why I gave you one star. The final problem I had (which is small) would be to make the detail pictures bigger.

The setting up of the delivery, the engineering with the plans and documents back and forth, getting all the details worked out, the shipping and me accepting the delivery all went very well. I needed to take delivery so I needed to store it for a little bit. Then, I spent all summer preparing and then this last weekend, I got the midsection erected. We bought a building in December on sale and we did Armstrong Steel’s designs on a three-car garage. They said that they would baby-step us and help us the whole way, especially since their building is in the City of Centennial, which is where we live, and that we needed to get it approved. They said they knew the City of Centennial inside and out. We didn't know what we were doing and it was our mistake for trusting that they knew what they were doing within their own city. It clearly wasn’t the case.
Armstrong Steel made a three-car garage with no opening. I was told in January when it came back like that, and we already paid money, that we wouldn’t get our money back and that we would have to pay $12,000 more, double, to get a three-door opening. So, we were stuck. We were gonna lose our deposit. They did a new plan for a two-car garage that would be around the same price, so we compromised and got a two-car garage instead of a three-car garage, which we originally had a quote for. We then proceeded and submitted everything to City of Centennial, which takes longer than the time when we get delivery. So, we had to pay the balance and get delivery without even knowing if it was approved. It was a complete pressure in the situation.
I got it delivered and it has been sitting there, not able to build because the city won’t approve it because Armstrong did the wrong roof pitch. They didn't do it to spec with the City of Centennial, and now we’re on a standstill and it’s rotting away on our property. This $12,000 that we paid, is sitting there, waiting because they won’t draw up new plans with a new pitch or work with us. And we keep calling and calling. We even have a contractor now, that we’ve put our retainer that knows them, to start calling. We’ve been calling the city, and they won’t budge changing and they didn't change it. Legally, we can’t build it.
We can’t do anything with this and Armstrong is not willing to get the architecture to change it and send us out maybe a new beam or something that we need to make or even just submit something to the city. All they have to do is send that pitch from the architect to us and this problem would be solved. It’s becoming fall and winter, where we can’t lay concrete, and we can’t lay the concrete till we know if the building is gonna change. Someone has offered to buy the steel for a tenth of the price that we paid for it. I don’t know what to do and I’m about to go and do a review on their website and on social media, which I don’t wanna do. Armstrong lives here in my town, but I don’t know how else to get them to address the situation. This is not our error.
We made it really clear we’ve never done this before and we don’t know. Armstrong Steel said that they're professionals and know it, and clearly, they don’t, sending us the plan with no doors and sending us the wrong pitch and pressuring us. I read some bad reviews before and didn't go with my gut, and I should have. I’m looking into getting my money back. The contractor who works with Armstrong said he would help, so he is working on it. My husband said to try calling again one more time but I’m ready to put out the reviews on everything. I don’t want to get to that situation but I’m not being helped. My voice isn't being heard and all I wanna do is build a garage. We should not be doing a litigation when Armstrong messed up. They should solve it and work with us. We’re not unreasonable people. We trusted them to help us and then now they’re not. I’m very dissatisfied.

The experience overall, as well as working with the planners and developers was about the same across companies. But the price was so much better through Armstrong. It's been eight years since I finished the last steel building. and even with the increase in price, this building from Armstrong came in at about the same cost as what I paid for it eight years ago.
When I got the drawings, I sent it to my local contractor who does his steel work and build his own. I asked him how much he would charge me to build the building, and he was about 4% higher. Also, his was plus delivery, which would have tacked another two grand on it. With Armstrong Steel, it came delivered, in that price. Also, when I got the building, my contractor came and he said that I seemed to upgraded to galvanized purlins. But I told him it was the standard. For him, the quote he gave me was just lead iron purlins and what I got from Armstrong was what he would have charged another 2,000 or 3,000 for upgrade. His price would have been many percent above Armstrong's.
The only issue that I had in the construction was that I had decided when I ordered it, to do my gutters later. Armstrong was not being pushy and they let me order that way. Now, once it was delivered, my guy said that if I'm gonna do the gutters later, I gotta take the trim off and then put the trim back on. I'll have to pay someone to put it on now, and then I'm gonna have multiple holes when they put it back on. So, my best bet is to do the gutters at that very moment. If the Armstrong salesman was a little bit more pushy, which people don't like, we would have gone with it. Other than that, it is a gorgeous building, and I've been giving the information to all my friends.

Save your time, money, and frustration in dealing with Armstrong Steel. I began the purchase of a building in Oct/Nov 2018 and dealt with what seemed to be a good sales department. In hindsight, they oversold me on 10ft ridge vents for the building. Having never purchased one of these, I was sold 5 vents for a 70x50 building. There should not have been a need for more than 3 max. Like others on this review site, I was told that I needed to lock in the price due to the price fluctuations in steel so we pulled the trigger in November on the purchase. The price was in-line with others so that was of no concern. I asked to have the delivery scheduled as far out as possible since we had land to clear and a foundation to build. That was unfortunately met with some push-back and the schedule was set. I received the confirmation packet from Kade and this is where it started going south.
With delivery set, we were there to receive the truck. As the truck was offloaded, I began to notice issues with the beams. A few were quite marked up with missing primer and two were literally bent on the end of the beam. When I talked to the driver to inform him of the issues, he admitted that it was not his issue. He has seen them drop the beams at the loading yard. He said he knew that was going to be an issue. In addition, they package all bolts, nuts, connectors, and other small parts in one box and expect you will open each box to count. When I spoke to Armstrong about delivery, they said that if there is a sticker on the box that indicates there is a package of connectors in there, it is safe to say it is in there and there is no need to do an actual count of the items.
Basically, the message was to verify the stickers were on the box showing it had been packed. We tried to do as much as we could but it is a daunting task. Some of the sheeting was ripped as well and I sent pictures and an email within the required five days as required for warranty services to be within compliance. I called as well, during delivery, to Kade and let him know of the issues and his response was that they would look at the email and pictures to review.
He asked that I provide a measurement of the sheeting pieces that were damaged and I explained that was next to impossible because the building pieces were stacked on each other and I did not have a forklift to remove them panels are bundled in 1000+ lb packs. His response to me was “That’s not my problem, I can’t be responsible if you take a screwdriver to a job where you need a drill”. Great customer service there Kade. On that call, I understood that since construction was not to be for a while, there was time to have corrections done and they needed at least 2 week notice to ensure delivery.
When construction was becoming imminent, I returned a call to Armstrong to check on the status of the items damaged. I was connected again to Kade, who told me that they had reviewed the information provided and that they had no intention to send any new items to replace those that were damaged. I involved the contractor that was to erect the building since he was recommended by Armstrong and he called his contacts. They appeared to be more willing to listen and get things done but in the end, Kade continued to step in and deny any allowance to provide updated material or send missing parts. My contractor told me in all the years he had dealt with Armstrong, the response he got from Kade was way over the top and totally wrong. If you are looking to buy from this company, be willing to take an inferior/possibly damaged product that you did not intend to purchase like that.
I hope that will not happen to you but be aware of their response if you do will likely be like this. I argued my point that I did not pay for a building to have bent beams nor missing parts that the contractor had to mitigate by going to the local Home Depot. He tried to explain that this happens on occasion and that they do not replace items like this. They did not send the connector pieces for the continuous ridge vents as well and when notified by the contractor, Armstrong refused to send them!!! What is wrong with them? Those are custom made items unavailable from a local home improvement store. So, at this time, I have 2 vents on the ground unable to be used and they refuse to credit my account for the cost.
Doing research, each cost right at 400.00 and they say it is the contractor’s issue, not theirs. Yet, they did not provide the parts to link them as they should. They even tried to tell me they gave me the vents for free! Looking at my bill of sale, it has a cost of the building and all the items “included”, which apparently to them means “free” and to me means it’s included in the total cost of the building. Using their logic, all the sheeting, vents, doors, etc were free….
After various times through discussions with Kade in the warranty area, he became very defensive, belligerent, and down-right rude because I was saying I did not pay 50K for a building that was damaged and I wanted to have that fixed. Questioning their commitment to the customer and their needs apparently hits a nerve with him. In my mind, standing behind your product, your production methods, delivery services, and warranty of the product is what makes you a service oriented company. I would highly recommend that you think twice about giving Armstrong Steel any of your hard-earned money because there are many others out there that have good reputations as well.
Since all of this has transpired, the contractor has even told me that Armstrong Steel mentioned to him that the company does not want to hear from me any more about the issues and have asked him to stand between and do something if he felt obligated to do so; otherwise, they are not going to engage in any further discussion. How destructive to your company that is to not want to deal with the concerns of your clients. Take your money and remove themselves from any further obligation with next to no recourse for the customer. In a nutshell, save you t time, money, and frustration in dealing with Armstrong Steel. Look at US Steel or some other provider. I really thought the process was going well until they were asked to stand behind the product and provide some basic remedy.

I then dealt with a very nice lady, but after a month, I found out they didn't send me the corners for the top of the building. I called them and I was sent to a guy who didn’t care. They wanna charge me for the corners because I didn't check those out. They said I have five days to check out the inventory. It took me a month to put the building, and sometimes, there are little stuff that you cannot find until the end. I like Armstrong Steel's customer service. When they talk to you, they talk to you like a human being, not like you’re a machine. But one of the issues I had was that I didn’t get enough detailed preliminary plan for the concrete. The project was a metal building and I had already made a deposit. I just didn’t get enough detailed information on the placement of anchor bolts for the beams. But I was impressed with the knowledge of the sales representative who assisted me and I would seriously recommend the company.

Armstrong Steel seems like they're going to be very helpful in the building process but in terms of the process to get to here, I’ve not been real satisfied. I wanted an all-steel building and they weren’t quite forthcoming on a few things as far as what they should’ve been. They charge you for painting the steel and I’ve never heard of a company saying, “Here’s your cost of the building. Oh, by the way, if you want paint, that’s gonna be more expensive.” Who wants to put up a bare tin building? When you call and say you're pricing the building, you assume that there’s going to be colors included in that.
I wasn’t real happy with them because of that. It's all in their fine print. My suggestion to any person that’s going to do business with them is to be sure to read and understand the fine print before they sign anything. When you’re bidding your building, be aware that you pick your colors before you get a bid. Otherwise, Armstrong Steel would increase their price. If you change it after you get your initial bid and you’ve signed off on it, you’ve gotta pay 50% of the changes. I had voiced my concern and I’d be more than happy for them to call me because it’s been well over a month since I’ve received the building and I’ve gotten no correspondence whatsoever from them.
We are sorry that it was not made more clear that a colored roof would be an upgrade. We do not charge for colors on your walls or trim, you get to pick your color there at no additional cost to you. The roof does come standard Galvalume which is listed on your initial quote as well as listed on the order form. You can upgrade your roof to a colored roof. A large majority of our customers keep the Galvalume roof, it has the most reflective properties and it helps with heating and cooling. Again, we apologize if that was not made more clear.

I am currently in the process of purchasing a building from Armstrong Steel. The salesperson offers me a rebate if I purchased the building before the end of the month. So I agreed. My contract shows a REBATE that was offered to me from their salesman with no other terms. I was told we need to keep on scheduled. We had 30 days to complete the design. The problem is it takes days or weeks to have anyone to return my calls therefore you are now falling behind. No fault of mine. We went on past the 30 day mark then to find out they start taking away your rebate.
This seems to be all by design for them to make more money. I'm held accountable for the 30 days but I cannot get them on the phone. They are not accountable? Their entire staff seem to blame the next person. "THEY DON'T KNOW". This is the answer you get a lot from their staff. Purchasing a build from Armstrong Steel feels like every time you turn around they are going to take your money. Be prepared to deal with their scam!!!! Once they have your money they seem to think there is nothing you can do. LOOK OUT.

When I did a research on Armstrong Steel, the quality and consistency of the product were good. The ratings on their company seemed pretty high, so I felt pretty comfortable doing business with them. I have a small farm and I have a garage steel building that I bought from them. The quality seems like it was a good quality product. Working with the company seems fine as well. The delivery was a little shaky, but that's a third-party vendor. But they have an outstanding product.
It was kinda funny at first because I sent them an online notification of it. And most companies, when you send an online notification, you get inundated with like, "Ready to buy it right now?” And with them, it wasn't quite like that. I ended up calling them back and talking to a representative and talked a little bit about what my needs were. We walked the project a little bit. They were more engineering-oriented and less sales-oriented. And he talked me out of buying something that probably wouldn't have fit my needs as well, and more into something that's probably not quite as pretty and a lot more functional for what my needs are. And I appreciated the fact they took more of a design feature for need-based than to sell something because that's what I wanted. So it wasn't just a quick sales quote. It was more of a talking through what the need of the product was. So I did appreciate that.

Armstrong Steel did me really wrong. I worked with them for a shop as they seemed to be a professional company with a quality product. And my experience with them was totally what I expected right up until the product arrived. There were stuff missing from the kit. I paid $50,000 for a building, and it was missing $1,200 worth of parts. And Armstrong Steel refused to replace the parts without me paying for them. When I spoke to them about the issue, they were very much like, "Oops, sorry about that. This is our procedure. Too bad." They just offered to let me buy the product and have free shipping. So due to the final outcome of the whole situation, I would definitely not recommend Armstrong Steel to anybody that I come across.

Armstrong Steel has a lifetime guarantee so I liked the look of that. I called them and I was able to reach an agreement with them. I put up a 30 x 40 private garage for residential use and most of the time, the people at Armstrong Steel were responsive. I actually had to call them back up and get a couple of extra parts because at one point I decided not to do it together. They offered it to me but I elected not to then I changed my mind and decided to get it. So after I had gotten both of the deals, I called back and did a supplemental order. But we had a little snafu because I was a little confused. I had ordered the roof installation then I decided to go with the wall installation as well, and we ended up getting a different order. It might have also been because of the fact I didn’t get it all at the same time. But I was able to get it straight with the installation company and they got back with Armstrong.
The buildings and the process were also explained to me fairly well. Then we got everything delivered on time, when they said it would be here, and I didn’t really see any real problems with it. Armstrong Steel also hooked me with someone who came over and put the building up, and the guy thought that the quality is actually pretty good. He referred to it as red steel and it impressed him because in the past, he had seen some in the less-grade red steel instead of the actual hardened steel that it was. So he actually thought this was a little high-end than what he had been used to seeing with some of the others that he had put up that were not Armstrong. It was a good experience overall. I’m happy with it and I would recommend to friends.

To further explain, I purchased a building from Armstrong at the end of last year where the Salesman told me multiple times that the building would be AISC certified. I was at omit about verifying the certification as I am erecting the structure in San Luis Obispo, California where the county building department requires the AISC certification to pass plan inspections.
The original quote for my building clearly states that “Every Armstrong Building is AISC certified”. They will tell the buyer after the fact that they only said they build to AISC guideline but clearly the documentation shows a different claim. With this proof of certification, I felt comfortable purchasing the building knowing that it was certified by a reputable association such as AISC.
Now when I ask them for the certification they are telling me they actually do not have a certification with AISC. Instead they are now claiming to the buyer (Me and likely others) that they are in the final process of receiving their certification through AISC. Currently working with AISC certification Administrator to verify they truly are in that process or not. Highly unlikely.
I don’t expect AISC to get involved in our dispute by any means but I do feel obligated, for the protection of future buyers of their buildings, to know up front that the Armstrong building that they are going to purchase is not AISC certified as claimed in their quote to me. I also don’t believe a company like this is representing all of what AISC has worked so hard to be and is the reason for this communication.
The issue I am having now is that my county building and planning department is in need of a certification prior to approving my erection of the building. As Armstrong cannot come through on their promise I now have to hire a third party inspector, pay him out of my pocket to inspect the welds and quality of the beams, and cross my fingers that they will actually pass to the AISC specifications.
The second issue was the quality of the rigid frame columns and rafter coatings. As the building was fabricated in Colorado it had to be trucked out to California. I asked for them to send me pictures of the loaded trailer prior to leaving so I could be prepared to unload once at the site. The pictures showed my building sitting outside partially covered in snow. When it arrived and started to unload I noticed that most all of the beams were rusted through, primer flaking off as they sprayed over oil and debris and areas with no primer coating whatsoever. Armstrong's excuse (always an excuse putting it back on the customer) was there are no guarantees on the primer and it was caused by the road salt which they are not responsible for.
Their solution was to send me a 5 gallon bucket of primer. Really! I would have to completely sand down their shoddy workmanship which I have no clue how to do, I would then have to re primer some 50+ beams which I don't have the equipment not the talent to do. The quote I got was for $7+k to sand, clean paint, use forklift to rotate and repeat. Remember I just spent close to $120k on this building and this is what I am dealing with.
I am not just some angry customer that feels I was taken advantage. And I am not one to typically complain but please pay close attention to what I have written in this review and make your own decision on who you have to fabricate your metal building. The last thing I wanted to do is have to write a negative review on any company I deal with but this one is a easy given as from the first call to them up to now has been the most painful relationship I have ever had with a company.
Their CEO has a mission statement on their website that would lead you to believe that this is the company you want to deal with. The problem is without any contact information to be found there is no way to inform him of the issues and bad customer support I've received so likely doesn't even know what is going on in his own company. At least him not knowing would be my hope!
If I were able to share my documentation with others reading this review It would paint the picture for you of my painful dealings with Armstrong Steel. Instead there is only one person that I have shared this with and that is my contract lawyer who is telling me this is an absolute given that Armstrong has misrepresented themselves in a way that will be to my (and other buyers in the future) benefit.
PLEASE STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY! I would be looking real close into the 5 star readings that you see below before falling into this trap as anyone can add a review! I will let this review soak in for a while prior to filing a formal complaint as the term and conditions state that I cannot have both a review and a complaint at the same time. Please read and understand my experience but also make your own decision as to who you spend your hard earned money with to provide your metal building. Thanks, JG. Thanks, John **

I used Armstrong Steel for a storage building for myself. So far, the quality of the steel has been fine. The communication with them was not very good though. They weren't informative or interactive. When I ordered the building, it took a month and a half for them to get back with me about different things. They said that the person left and nobody followed up with him.
This was my first time and I had no idea what to expect as far as the delivery. I had to ask questions, but they just said that it’d come this way and I didn’t know what that meant to me. To make certain I was getting the right building, they sent me a drawing of what the building was and the specifications that I asked for. But when they sent the truck, I wasn’t really sure on how the shipment was coming. It wasn’t very clear. Also, they just talked about one shipment and I ended up getting three different shipments. Aside from that, they didn’t say I'd be getting two different trucks during the day.

I purchased a machine shed from Armstrong Steel. The fact that the building would be of steel and the sale that they had made me use them. The cost was appropriate and reasonable. And the rep did a good job explaining things, but apparently, there was a miscommunication when I initially explained what I wanted in the building. I thought the quote that he gave me included the overhead doors and didn’t realize that there was an added cost for different colors of steel. I would’ve appreciated knowing that up front instead of finding when we were part way through the deal. I also didn't realize that different roof pitches would cost different amounts of money. The cost ended up being $10,000 more than the first quote that I had. Although I’m pleased with my building, I would’ve been more pleased if all of that would’ve been explained initially.

Armstrong Steel was said to be a higher quality building than I had run in the past, and their warranty supposedly, so I figured I would give it a shot. I wanted to try them out on a small scale before I bought a big building so I got a 40x60 for a personal shop. Trish was the salesperson and she was very helpful. But it was kind of a pain in the ass to get all the approval and to go through everything. Every step was kind of having to go through four different steps before they gotta sign. It was time-consuming. The steel companies I deal in the past was pretty fast and easy.
Also, they could make sure they take the time initially instead of just selling a building. I told them I was doing an insulated building and the rep was so much in a hurry to sell my building, he forgot about that. So I got charged more because I had to have an additional or heavier load building for the insulation package, even though I told him. They didn't take the time initially to really listen to the customer. They try to sell you the plain Jane building and then try to get you on the back turnaround of all the little extra stuff you need.
The building itself is not a bad building but their engineering is pretty poor. Nothing lined up and everything is too tight. I checked and squared and double-check, the main columns didn't match the end walls. I had to shift them in the peaks to match the same angle. It was nothing like I had experienced with another steel company before, and I've done several steel buildings. This was probably the worst one I've had. It's gonna be a nice building when it's said and done, but it took twice as long as they should have to erect the steel.

I ordered a steel building from Armstrong Steel and after many episodes and mistakes made by Armstrong, somehow I was able to get the shop built. I was happy to finally be done with them. Once you make your payment, they immediately remove any sense of responsibility for your experience. When I experienced snow damage last winter, they were next to impossible to deal with. You will get the runaround and wish you had any other option, but to deal with them. They piled my materials on with other materials for other customers. My materials never made it to my job site and they said it was my responsibility to find it on the other customers sites. I have still not found my materials and am out thousands of dollars, with no concern coming from Armstrong. They don’t label materials well and their drivers have no clue what is on their trucks.
Once you write a check, you are quickly forgotten. Don’t expect to find any part of dealing with Armstrong to be professional, or easy at all. They will aggressively steer you towards writing a check, then leave you hanging with no follow up. They don’t return calls and they hope you will go away and forget about all of the issues that they create and won’t help you with. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere.... Anywhere else would be better than Armstrong!!! I experienced problems from start to finish. I now need to take them to court to try to get my money back for materials they shipped elsewhere. I hope others can avoid this hell by not doing business with this dishonest company.

I liked the style of the buildings by Armstrong. I purchased a 3,200 square foot steel structure from them but then what I didn't really like was that I ended up getting audited by some tax board because I had to pay taxes of $9,000 on it. When I originally purchased it, I didn’t know anything about taxes. The contract didn’t say I’d have to pay tax on it. I wasn't happy about that and the way that the structure is sold could have been better.
I got the beams through Armstrong and I got the sheet metal. The roll-up doors are waiting at some warehouse, but they keep calling me asking me when I'm ready. For the insulation, which they said fills up a two-car garage, they're calling me asking me when I'm going to have it done. The timing of when Armstrong sells these products since they're coming from different vendors should be timed accordingly.
One time, I was telling them that I wanted drawings of the building so that I could submit for a permit. I've already paid for the building and if the city were to say that I can't put it up, I'm screwed. I couldn’t do anything until I knew the location, where the city was gonna want me to put it and everything. It took me about almost a month to get the permit. Once I got it, I started working on the foundation.
But then, the weather came in and we had a freak rainstorm. It screwed everything up and I can't do anything right now until the ground’s hardened up. When Armstrong delivered the beams and all the sheet metal, their guy was traveling from Colorado. When he got here, the major rainstorm was ongoing. Their guy was kinda lazy and he didn't cover anything. When he got here, a couple of boxes were blown apart as well as some steel straps. That driver should have stopped. He should have known it was gonna start raining. He should have covered the stuff all up. Despite these issues, I would recommend Armstrong Steel.

When we ordered the building, insulation foam walls were included. When the building came in, half of those came. I submitted a modification on the building and they doubled up the price. The prices started from 22,000 and then they raised the price to 44,000. They changed their percentage so fast and they didn’t return calls too. They were looking to make a commission right away, not to build a future. I thought that a big name like them wouldn’t do such a thing. Also, the sales lady misinterpreted everything when we ordered. When she was given the money, she kept all the money and didn't give what we wanted. The building's quality is average too. The garage door is so small and weak. Plus, the doors are not that good as well.

I was a little bit disappointed in the way the process works because Armstrong Steel gives you a price for the base building, and then for adding things like doors and windows and gutters and gap sealer. So you don't know what that's gonna cost until you agree to buy the building. We didn't know what the building was gonna cost because they wouldn't tell us until we had bought the building. So that was kinda frustrating. But it was a fair price. It was neither super cheap nor super expensive. It was right in the middle.
I'm a fabricator and I could've built the building better, but the building went up just fine. We had to make some alterations, but construction is construction. Overall, everything was well engineered, and as long as you follow the plans, it goes together just fine. The sales experience was good. All the people I dealt with during the process of purchasing was very helpful and knowledgeable. But I didn't like the sales after the fact because I dealt with probably four different people trying to sell me things.
It started with one guy designing the building, and then it went to another guy to finish designing the building, and then it went to the accessories department after we purchased the building. The pre-delivery service was pretty good. Now, the service after the sale was not as good. It's harder to reach people. They're less willing to help because all they do is supply the building. They don't assist in any sort of way in the erection of the building. I call them, and then it takes two days to get back to me to answer questions.
Armstrong Steel has a marketing campaign that makes the customer feel like the construction is not as big of a deal as it is. They make it seem like any mechanically-inclined individual is gonna have no problem putting this building up. It is possible, but there is a huge learning curve, and you have to know about construction techniques, and the plans are not easy to decipher. The blueprints are nonstandard. They give you an erection manual, and they explain how to do all the steps, but they don't have it laid out step-by-step. It doesn't have pictures of the way it's done. You have to really search for the things, and figure out which side of this beam does the rafter go on or which direction does it face. They didn't make it very easy.

Their business model kinda sucks because they try to get you sucked into buying without a complete job price and then they come in afterwards and start marking up everything. They tack on the prices after the fact at a super high rate. It would be better if they would get the full information instead of selling you the building before they get it. The people were nice but it was almost like a used car sales approach that they used.
But I'm happy with everything else. I did my own foundation and structural work as far as that goes and then erected the building. They did short me on some materials that I had to get from another location, and then they ordered more materials than I needed on other stuff. But overall, as far as the final end of the project, it's fine. The quality of steel seems pretty good

My project with Armstrong is a 40 x 60 x 16-foot tall steel building that's mixed for business and personal use. We're gonna use one side for our garage and the other side for a shop. Armstrong is reputable. I've heard of them before and that's why I used them. I went down and met with them, and we looked over different types and pricing. What we're doing is that we sold our house, bought land and are having a house and a building built. So we picked out the color of the house then we picked out the same color of the building.
I was comfortable throughout the process with Armstrong and if I had any questions or concerns, I could always get ahold of the sales rep so it wasn't a problem. When I call them, they would put me through to him and I would talk to him. They pretty much told me what it was gonna be – what I was getting, what it was gonna take and when they would have it delivered. They were good except when they gave me a price on the building, I didn't realize that it didn't include garage door, main doors and windows. I thought the full price was for the full building. Those were extra but it's not that much. I'm not too worried about that.
They were also a little off on the delivery date but I don't think that was their fault. They were getting hammered. It was right before Trump put the steel tariff on so they were trying to push it through so we didn't get an increase in price. That helped out there for sure. The building is up now and I've got it wired for electricity and everything else. We've got all our stuff in the building too so when we can move into the house, we'll just move our stuff out of there and move into the house. Then we'll clean up the building and start using it for a garage and a shop. The quality of the steel is also good. We've had some crazy weather lately, a lot of wind, and we haven't had any problems at all.

But in the next several months, I’m gonna try to put it together.

I looked up Armstrong Steel online and I liked the way the building looked. They had a different coating or whatever was on the steel itself and it wasn’t red iron. I got a 40x50 building from them and everything was of good quality. I didn't have the greatest experience with the sales reps though. I had to lock what the amount was gonna be for my building and after they did the blueprints, I couldn't change up or add anything without it costing a lot of money. One rep, Trish, tried all she could to help me get stuff changed up but Armstrong Steel should go over in more detail about the buying process and let people know about the price in the beginning. Armstrong didn’t help with the process and their building was expensive when I could have gotten one closer to where I live and a lot faster for less money.

A friend of mine and his wife are building a new home just down the street from me and he found the Armstrong Black Friday sale last November. He contacted me because we both wanted garages, and he said he found a steal. He found Armstrong Steel online. I wouldn’t know one steel from another but it’s good. We've had lots of bad wind up here in the last couple of days, and it's still standing. However, I heard from the guys putting the thing up that the parts were not numbered or identified in any way for them to be able to look at the instructions and say, "Pick up part 22 and attach it to part 71." So, that was a complaint on the part of the workers. They were having to guess by looking at the pictures what the different parts were. Otherwise, everything went together just fine. I'm inside the garage right at this moment looking and it’s good.
When Steve, my friend, ordered his building, he was told that he could pay for it when their house was sold. When I called to order the building, they didn't say anything about financing. It was my assumption that I would be treated the same way, only it wasn't discussed. I didn't have $40,000 to plunk down and I had to sell my house first. My friend was told he could pay when his house was sold and I thought I would do the same thing. I should have asked about financing, but it seems like that would have been more of their main topics to talk about. They kept hounding and they were telling me that I gotta pay but I couldn't until the house is sold. I told them that the minute the house is sold, they would have their money. The minute it sold, I contacted them, and I told them the check was in the mail. So, it was a problem of not being upfront about what was gonna go on with the financing. Otherwise, I could not complain about anything.

There were some initial disparities between what the telephone contact person asserted and what was actually necessary to purchase additionally. We were told that doors were included in the original price. When we found out that they were not, and in fact, cost additional money, we were ready to cancel our contract. I wrote a letter intended to be delivered to executives. They responded with special pricing for trim and doors. The team who settled me down was excellent. My brother-in-law bought a lesser model from one of your competitors. Quality was notably absent from his and wonderfully present for ours. The difference in my costs were very well worth it. We are still in the process of finishing it since we are doing the work ourselves. But I am excited to have an amazing barn that will do so much for us.

I have looked at at least four companies but I liked Armstrong Steel's variety, the options that I could get and the size. The building was 40 x 48 and I couldn't find anybody local that would go that big. We must've gone 12 feet. Also, Armstrong Steel's website looked nice and their reps answered all the questions I had. The cost was okay and I'm satisfied with the quality of the building.
The only issue I had was when they sent the pieces out. When I got them, it took me a while to get a contractor out here in California. They're based in Colorado and didn’t have anybody out here that could build it for me. They delivered in February of last year and I couldn’t get to build it until around June so it sat for awhile. I thought I'd try to build it myself but I ended up hiring a contractor that knew a little bit about them, and we ended up building it ourselves. As I was looking at the plans and trying to get questions answered as we went along, it was a little harder than I thought it would have been. The customer service after the sale was lacking.
Also there were supposed to be two pieces for the right and two for the left but what they sent me were four pieces for the left side. The pieces were the right length but the holes didn’t match up when we put them up together, left to right. I had to have my guys put them up and re-drill them so that they would fit. I didn't call them about it because we were in the middle of putting this thing up I didn’t want to wait to call them and have them send me two new pieces out. We're on a schedule and we're already late. But other than that, the building's great. It's nice, solid and steel.

Also, I looked around at other ones, but couldn't get the delivery I wanted and with Armstrong, they got me set up. I went for it but I’m disappointed with the project. It's a lousy building with the way they have it engineered. They were missing brackets and didn't have gussets on the brackets and everything was bent. And they don’t have enough purlins in the building. The way it was set up was not right. It was built very cheaply and shouldn’t have been built that way. I put the building up and I'm dealing with it but I would tell others to go someplace else.

I searched online and Armstrong Steel was what popped up. I had made a couple of phone calls to a couple of other places and they seemed like they were pretty much in the ballpark. They told me that I was getting a little bit of a deal on the steel when I bought it and that was what sold me on going with them. I started it back in October and the design process went pretty smooth. The only thing I really struggled with was that I wasn't aware of all the additional stuff that Armstrong had to buy to complete the building and how much all that would actually add up to be. I really wasn't aware that the stuff didn't come with the building that I was buying.
When they first designed the building, they told me a price. I was pumped on it and I wanted to do it. Then all of a sudden, after I put a deposit down and after I had gone through that initial design process, they said that it would be x amount of dollars for installation, x amount of dollars for the little closure strips to make sure animals don't get in between the side panels and the roof panels, and a bunch of little knickknack stuff. I figured since I was buying a building, the installation and the closure strips to make sure animals weren't getting in were part of it, but it wasn't.
It would've been nice to know that stuff ahead of time 'cause I might've gone with a different building as I completely broke my budget doing this. But I wanted the quality steel and I wanted the industrial strength building. The building got delivered about a week ago. The quality of the steel seems really nice. I haven't had a chance to put it up yet but it all looks like it's there and in decent shape. Some of the panels were bent from being strapped down, but I'm a metal worker so it's nothing that I can't just straighten up with a hammer.
The people there were all really good. I had one little hiccup when they wanted to deliver the building. Because of money, they said that they were gonna do consolidated freight so I had a little bit of a going back and forth with one of their employees. I was a little ticked 'cause they told me that if I delay delivery, I was gonna lose my deposit. I ended up having to call them back and say that they didn't tell me that stuff so it was not fair that they would take away my deposit or my rebate because I delayed shipping a little bit. A guy called me back and said that I was right, that they didn't tell me until after the fact so they delayed the shipping for a couple of weeks, which really helped me out. I kinda had to fight for it, but once again, it is what it is.

I knew I wanted a pre-manufactured steel building, and so I surfed in the net. Armstrong Steel was the one that looked like what I wanted, appearance-wise. I talked to the first rep and got it set on the price. I didn't realize that was only the steel. I didn't include any openings. I thought it was the little model that you build online. I was a little surprised at the doors when its openings are so much more, but I got through that. But if I had known upfront all the additional charges that I was gonna incur, I probably would not have done it.
And then, the delivery was a disaster. Making me provide the forklift and having a set date that I couldn't change wasn't cool to me. Ideally, if there was snow on the ground, I would like to have it delivered when I would be ready to actually build it two months from now when I have a foundation for it. Right now, it's just laying on the ground, in the snow.
The delivery came, and it was interspersed among the truck so I had to unload two other people's building parts to get to mine. So part of me thought that I’m glad mine is first because I don't want a bunch of other amateurs unloading my steel and reloading it. But I really didn't like a series of surprises and additional fees the whole way through that. I would definitely not do another one. Also, the staff really couldn't help the process. They were feeding you the information as they ought it. But they were fantastic especially the project manager. He was getting me the drawings, getting me all the stuff I needed and answering my questions.

Armstrong Steel had knowledgeable sales reps. They told us a price and we thought everything was included with this and everything was what we wanted. I liked their pricing at first. But then they came back with, “Oh, you don’t have a door in there and you don’t have the roof reinforced for solar.” It was kind of a misleading at first. They also didn’t do everything that was on the blueprints that we gave them. It was a hand drawn blueprint but we knew where all the doors and windows were going. We signed the paperwork then they came back with a different drawing. It was just a bait-and-switch thing, But that’s okay. We already put a downpayment down and it’s nonrefundable.
But I wish they would listen to the customer more. Their people hear you talking but they don’t listen to you very well. When I explained something to them like what I needed and what we were doing, they would ask me a question and then I was gonna pick the building up myself. But they sent us another thing out for scheduling a delivery and it’s like, “No, we’re picking it up.” I’ve told them that four times. Apparently, it doesn’t sink in. Also, they shouldn't be hasty. They’re very hasty and high pressure than what I prefer. I don’t have the building yet and this is just the sales part of my experience with them. We’re hoping to have our building up by July. This will be our office and shop.

I also talked to some people I knew in construction and I made the decision that their steel sheets are deemed higher gauge or thicker. The lower gauge actually is thicker, so their materials were supposed to be first-grade.
The reps were a little pushy. They push you to sign but that's just part of the business. I always have to have a deep breath, but I thought it was worth doing. Armstrong Steel also gave means. I'm a small contractor and I contracted a building with Armstrong Steel. My customer was gonna go with wood and he said that he'd been previously shopping around for steel. He gave me the names of three companies that he'd already called and he thought that Armstrong Steel was the cheapest one. They supposedly gave me a contractor price on the building, but I'll never know if they did or not. The sales rep was not bad, but he misled me a bit in the timeframe of how long it was gonna take the building to get built. The timeframe originally started somewhere around eight weeks. Instead, it got closer to 14 weeks.
Between Armstrong Steel and my customer, I had my markup in the building. But somehow, they FedExed my contract to my customer and now, he has all the information about my price versus the price on that paper that I was supposed to get. He saw the markup on my building and now, I'm a no-good ** because I marked his building up. I got that all ironed out with the customer though.
The structural steel that Armstrong Steel sent on the truck wasn't tarped and I wasn't too happy about that. I work with steel and I know steel. You can't haul it this time of year in the Midwest with all the salt on roads. Now, we're putting up a rusty building. But they've agreed to send me the primer when I needed and pay some the labor of getting it primed on-site when we get the building up, which was expected of them.
Moreover, I thought the truck was going direct to me, but it didn't. It went from Colorado to Wisconsin, and then from Wisconsin, down to Illinois. There was another stop that I wasn't really happy about. Whenever that happens, there's a chance of the stuff getting damaged. The second truckload was tarped, but it had galvanized products on it, which didn't need to be tarped. I was glad it was tarped though. There is another issue with some bracing and they're gonna correct that. It seemed like it was hard to get ahold of people sometimes. They talk like they had a lot of demand. If they got that much demand, they need to put more people on the payroll. There were a few times where I was gonna call and that person went home sick and wasn't in.

I've had wooden pole barns in the past, and they were okay. But I've got an old barn on my site that's fallen in, primarily because wood fails quicker than metal, given the same conditions. So, I've got a newer wooden pole barn, and it's doing fine. However, the building that I am and have chosen and am purchasing is all metal, because I anticipate that I need to have it last for the duration of my son, and perhaps my grandson's useful career. I wanted some longevity.
Armstrong is the first steel building I bought, and I have high hopes. When I called them, they announced that they had left 30 contracts for the year at a 25% contractor discount. I thought that that is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I better not let it pass. I had awesome interactions with the rep at Armstrong, and every time I have called, their assistants help me. My sales rep answered every question I had, and even when I could not get answers from other people in their organization, she went out of her way to go find them and get answers because I needed to know.
There was a math error on one of the forms. It was not a big deal and something that we all knew existed, but she worked with them to get them to correct it and resubmit the form. Math errors turn into accounting errors, which turn into legal errors, which turn into courtrooms. It's necessary to nip stuff like that in the bud when everybody can agree that it's still an error before it has gone too far. She was tremendous in facilitating that. It only took her a few minutes.
The overall quality of the service at Armstrong is good. But we're only halfway through this. I have to finish my portion, which is to complete the permit, and Armstrong needs to see that the building gets shipped to me undamaged, which I anticipate won't be any problem, because I've got a professional construction crew that will offload it and set it for me. They're gonna also erect the building. Still, considering the 50% that I've been involved in, I'm extremely satisfied.

Armstrong has been a lot more prompt with their responses compared to other steel building businesses. Also, I noticed that a lot of the other companies had had higher fees because they provided all of the services along with having the material dropped off. However, I can supply my own contractors. Armstrong beat others very well in terms of price. They already had a bulk amount of steel in the US before the new steel taxes. So, I was able to get those for the older price during the time of my purchase.
I messaged their reps to ask for a basic quotation as I'm doing a 40 x 60 foot steel building. They gave me a rough estimate on that and from there, we pursued further to where they were able to send me rough diagrams of the building to the specifications I asked them. I really liked that the reps very accurately took down notes of what I said, and the first PDF they sent me was dead on perfect. From there, I did the downpayment so that I could secure the old price on the steel that they had available. That helped because I went on their website after and noticed that there was a major price change. It wasn't just a gimmick to get me to do the downpayment. Instead, it saved me a lot of money.
My favorite thing that they did was that I got three full pamphlets, and then three full booklets of all the blueprints. Those had all the specs and everything for the county. They've already gone and looked at the place where I'm building, and made sure the whole building was to code spec on the materials, angles, windshear and snow load. They made it so simple that all I had to do was take my packet to the county and put it on the desk. They looked at it for 10 minutes and just asked me for my fee and approved the blueprint. It was the most simple experience with the county ever to get any building project done. It has been an amazing experience with Armstrong Steel. I've been super busy with other projects on my property and communication of their reps has been really good and really on key to where it hasn't thrown me off with any of my other projects. The process has gone really smoothly.

The front windows had an angle at the top but then the top is supposed to follow the roofline. I talked to Armstrong about the windows and they said that their computer didn't make the windows that way but it was just really done that way. Also, I fought with them over the color of the roof because when they put their thing together, they made a silver color steel roof that wasn't painted. I thought their reps knew what they were talking about. I got kinda P.O'd at them in the end because they made some changes and didn't tell me. There needs to be a whole lot more communication. When they change something or when they're gonna work the price to make it a little better.
Another problem I had was that they sent all of the things in a couple of trailer trucks. However, their guys had to be gone by the end of the day and they expected me to inventory the delivery before they left. I have to take it off the truck which takes a little while and then inventory every piece in there. If anything's missing, I'm responsible for it. Though the cost is comparable to the quality and I got my money's worth, I don't think I got the deal I was looking for.

This has been a learning experience. I'm new to this process and when I got a great price on a steel building with a rebate no less I was hooked line and sinker. I thought I was doing all the right steps when I started researching this project by reading all the reviews but now realize it was reviews on their website. All positive, duh.
I bought a 56 x 72 ft' with 16' walls to store my 5th wheel camping trailer and a lot of misc. items. First, they forgot to mention all the door openings cost extra. Not exactly an obvious extra charge, but not something I could do without. Then they told me if I didn't sign the DocuSign contract agreement by Friday (it was Tuesday) I wouldn't be eligible for the rebate which was $11000.00. Really rushed my decision (which could have been their plan all along).
Part of that rebate was because I ordered the insulation for the building through them. They did forego some of the door openings as part of the rebate but I'm sure there was an upcharge on the insulation. The insulation is being provided by a different company. Seemed like a good deal and I signed the contract. Of course one week later they called and said THEY screwed up on the square footage and needed to order more insulation AT MY EXPENSE. Had to sign another DocuSign contract before they would go ahead with the building. I needed my permit drawings from them so I could get my township to approve them. When the paperwork finally did arrive 2 WEEKS LATE for me to get approval, I couldn't get my concrete poured before the freezing weather set in.
Now that I have my building, (haven't started putting it up yet) I'm not getting any support. I was promised a project manager but she is not returning my e-mails or phone calls. Go figure, now they have my money so what do they care. My building came and I was told I have 2 hours to unload it from their truck (by myself) or I would be charged extra. Once delivered, I have found numerous places of rust and corrosion on the metal. They gave me a week to inventory the delivery of the building, but I'm not going to put it up until spring (it is now January) and I can't make sense of all the abbreviations on the parts lists. I inventoried what I could and will hope for the best.
They put a lot of demands on the customer but take on no responsibility on themselves. Buyers beware! The other negative reviews I have read on this site are all true, and all of it has happened to me from the time they got my first deposit to now. The reason for the two stars is because I still believe in the quality of the building and engineering-but time will tell. I plan on putting most of the building up myself but was counting on Armstrong Steels product support. Will keep trying to contact them but as the days pass I'm not going to hold my breath.
I am glad that we got to speak today and that you are getting the help and assistance that you needed from our company. We will continue to check in and update things with you as they progress on our end. Please let us know if you need anything else when you start the erection of your building.

I was told my building would be $68K with a $9k rebate bringing it to $59k. The rebate disappeared. Yours will too, I guarantee it. Then I get a quote for an additional $98k in "upgrades" which include engineering required for permits. I tossed most of that, but the building still cost me $98k. Two large steel structural beams were not delivered. The company will do absolutely nothing to get them to me, but they have offered that perhaps they will quote me on "replacing" them.
This company is bait-and-switch. You'll never get your deposits back. Your building will be several months late. To get the rebate you must sign off on the engineering of your building within 30 days and accept delivery in 60 days. This will never happen, you will never get that rebate. And "customer service" - meaning Kade and Kitty - will be insulting to you. Get your building from Behlen or General Steel. Deal with honest people.

I tried to buy a building from this company in but after they received my down payment their customer service was nonexistent. They missed my require delivery date and they refused to work with on getting this building purchased and in refunding my deposit after I lost all faith in them. I had one manager tell me that one salesman didn't respond to phone messages that he only responded well to email messages. I thought what kind of company requires you to learn how to deal with their quirky customer service failings. I don't believe any positive reviews I read about this company after my feelings with them. I submitted a review with the Better Business Bureau about this company and nothing happened and even my negative review was deleted. I don't know who was paid to make that happen but I was very disappointed by it.

Armstrong Steel gave me a quote with a great price of ~$16,000 for a 30x35' building; I was given pre-contract assurances that the building would meet Michigan code. When I entered into a contract to furnish the building, the sales lady said, "Wow, what a great deal you got." Once I was locked in by contract to purchase the building (with a deadline for engineered drawings prescribed by my Township), new building plans and an updated contract were provided adding almost $8,000 of additional building charges to the cost. I had considered sourcing doors and other accessories from Armstrong Steel but I found that their markup was several integer multiples of similar items from Lowe's or Home Depot.
I made the mistake of specifying insulation which was also added to the cost of the contract (another ~8k). In a rush, I signed off on the additional charges because my deadline was looming and I didn't have time to argue. I thought I could revisit some of the choices (mainly the insulation later). Armstrong Steel's delivery of engineered drawings caused me to miss my deadline with my Township (which caused undue stress) despite my heated attempts over several weeks to request stamped engineered drawings.
To make matters worse, when I got back in touch with my project manager, she said, 'Sorry, you are under contract to purchase the insulation and the additional building charges.' Their lawyer soon after sent me what I perceived as a threatening letter. So my "great deal" turned into doubling the cost of the building with contractually binding terms and a lawyer making threats to me. In my opinion, Armstrong Steel has no concept of customer management and employs dishonest tactics to get you hooked on the idea of their building all the while engaging in dishonest up selling. I am out the 4k deposit I made when I received the initial quote for a steel building of $16k.

Promised a structure for x amount but kept adding to x amount. I am still trying to get my deposit back which is $5200 for a $20500 20x40 structure. Okay so I called and I desperately needed a building for my disabled husband in my backyard to live. Los Angeles County gave me the okay to build. I called Armstrong Steel and spoke to a Richard. He said I have a 20x40 for 25k but let me ask in the warehouse if that Easter sale is still on. Waiting waiting... gets back on. “Yes I can get that building for you for 20k if you put down a deposit by Friday" (it was Wed at the time). He then says, “...if you can wait 3 months I can have it shipped with other kits and it will be free shipping.” It said sounds great. Everything sounded great.
I told him about my husband and I don’t have much money and I have to take this from our savings account and it will take a few days to get all the money together. Richard didn’t care. He said, “Have it all ready by 5pm Friday to lock in this price.” I said, “Does this include designing and cutouts?" (because I read about steel buildings before) and he said yes, all that is included along with a project manager. He said I had nothing to worry about and that they had built many homes in Southern California before. Okay. Then he says, “Did you get my email... let’s go over the contract together so you don’t have any problems. Did you mark where to sign it...” Okay. He says, “You are all set.” THAT WAS MY DOOM RIGHT THERE. HE WENT THRU THE CONTRACT THAT HE SENT ME THRU email and went thru it with me to make sure I signed it and that was it. I WAS OVER.
I went to Los Angeles County and they said make sure they had an ICC approval code. Of course I try to call back Richard but no way of touching him and then I email Kyle who sent me the paperwork and he said he couldn’t help me. Then the project manager Trish emails me another contract to sign and this one is 25k which was the layout I asked for with the cutouts and the extra steel to reinforce it. So now I owe them 20k plus 25k… So the building that was 20k including shipping is now 45k after cutouts with project manager. I can’t afford it now and of course they won’t give me my 5k deposit back. No one is calling me back about my money. I was counting on this building for my disable husband who lives in our garage. Please read everything before you SIGN. Please ask for everyone’s phone number.

Salesman told us everything we wanted to hear. We had been researching buildings for the last 2 years. Armstrong Steel is very quick to get papers out to sign and you feel as though you will be taken care of, then everything goes downhill. We signed for a building and put down a down payment. 10 days go by before we hear from a project manager. Project manager has us make corrections to a drawing and send in a list of requested accessories. After a week of no response to email and phone calls I was able to call our project manager using *67 before his number. He answered right away. He had questions about our drawing.
After trying to explain to him multiple times that that wasn't even a drawing we were interested in, I emailed the paperwork again. With no response our project manager sends us docu-sign agreement for another chunk of cash. Only problem was just about everything listed was incorrect sizing, wrong insulation and additional parts never requested. After 2 emails and multiple phone calls we received a response. We asked to speak with his boss to find a new building manager and have been refused multiple times. Can't even get the contact info. They are only interested in pushing buildings out the door. Their salesman, who then contacted me 1 1/2 months into the purchase about buying the same building again, will tell you they are on record pace this year and are swamped with work.
Please let this be a big red flag to you as I didn't pay attention to it. You will not get there Armstrong Value promise "Work, for us, is about educating customers so they're able to make the best and most informed decision". We are first time buyers of a shop with friends in construction to help assemble, but not the full knowledge to do everything. We have received absolutely zero help or advice as to what are building is even going to be used for or if there may be a better option. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

Signed a contract to buy a steel building. Once you give them 4500.00 deposit it all changes. This company through the process lied and gave wrong information. Which they say was a training problem. They will not change the contract back to what I signed. I am working with the BBB and they can't get them to call them back.
