I have had several problems with Express Scripts and Medco. One complaint is an increase of one of my prescriptions, from $40 per 3 months, to $40 per month. I may have to change the dosage to reduce the price. We'll see what the doctor recommends.

I use their app a lot. I will get status messages a drug is being processed. The next day the drug is canceled and a new message says they are reaching out to my doctor for a new prescription. I also waited 2 weeks for a drug being processed then canceled then processing then canceled. The drug wasn't covered by my insurance and had to get a substitute. The substitute had the same problem. I called and the rep said it was being shipped tomorrow. I call back and the rep said it will be shipped in a week and a half. I request a supervisor and am told it is not approved and I must find a substitute. I am switching all my prescriptions to my local pharmacy.
UPDATE ON 11/11/2017: This is a followup to my original post that my drugs are being processed and then am told they aren't covered by my insurance. First, there is no resolution in progress. Second, Sarah contacted me and asked for my phone number but no one called. They did email me and evaded my complaint of being told my meds are processing and am then told they aren't covered, for 3 weeks are kept in limbo. As proof they don't have a clue, here is an excerpt from their email. "** 30 doses - 220 mcg was sent on 10/22 but voided because the plan doesn't cover." So a drug was voided after it was sent out. How did they do that? This company is incompetent and inefficient, dangerous and scary considering the business they are in. Thank you.

These people are ridiculous, they started asking for authorizations for a couple of my prescriptions and have screwed up my health care in the process. My doctor can't get them to OK the doses nor the quantity I need. I have been on these same medications for 10 years and out of the blue they are going to dictate what I should and should not take. They are order fillers not doctors!!! They need to be out of business... Needless to say they're fired. Was a client for 2 years.

Insurance company use Express Scripts to refill my prescription specially for 90 days supply which was OK with me if I get my medication on time. It turns out to that I have to contact them every time I need to refill (no automatic refill) which I did. Some of my medication is a matter of life and death and had to be delivered on time but those guy don't take it seriously at all.
I call to refill and got disconnected from their side before order was totally processed according to them. I called again and they could not process because the previous operator left the process opened, she neither finished nor let someone else does. Then they report to my insurance company that the prescription has been filled and did not ship because it was not processed, so they did not send nor let me get my medication somewhere else because it should filled.
I lost many days without my life or death medication and I had to buy some pills from other pharmacy until Express Scripts get their act together or face transplantation rejection. Waiting for those guys to send my medication. My advice to everyone. Get your medication locally and don't use those guys because they don't care if you live or die. Your local pharmacy will lend you some bills if you have an issue with coverage until the issue is resolved, but this mail order company does not care if you really need your medication on time or not. In short, they are very bad and not worthy of your business.

My wife was hospitalized while we were vacationing in Mexico. We had a very detailed bill from the hospital that I submitted to my health insurance company. They very quickly reimbursed me for the expenses, except for the ones related to prescriptions. They said I would have to go through Express Scripts to recover those. Very understandable. They highlighted these and totaled them up so I clearly knew what to submit to Express Scripts. I proceeded to mail all the hospital bills and explanation from my health insurance on the prescriptions.
A few weeks go by and my mailbox is crammed full with 7 large envelopes all from Express Scripts. I opened them all and it totaled more than 200 pages of rejections for each item on the hospital bills. Every paper says the same thing. I need a national billing code for each one. How do I get a national billing code from Mexico? Furthermore when I call them they say I have to file an appeal. They just have no intention of paying. They are just making things as difficult as possible. I have no further information than what I gave them, if it was fine for the health insurance company why do they have a problem owning up to their portion. Terrible company, terrible customer service. I can't even speak to someone in claims. All that they give me is the same thing the 200 pages said.

Logging into my account to order or pay is a nightmare, I'd rather spend 3x more and get my meds at Walgreens. On the rare occasions I finally get into your site, I save login info on my laptop plus write username and PW in hard copy. Yet every time I input what I've saved to access my account, you claim invalid entry. So back to square one. You claim again and again you will email me a temp access code which never arrives. You must use the cheapest vendor and bid out monthly since the manufacturers of my meds keep changing. Pretty sure that takes its toll on efficacy.

Express Scripts is an online pharmacy. They try to be the Amazon of a pharmacy. Amazon is conquering the market as it is super convenient. However when you add the need for a prescription the business model breaks down! You have to send them the prescription, they then send you the antibiotic or whatever medication. If there is any error, they will send the prescription back to you and you need to send it back to them! It becomes an absurd nightmare, not a service. Going into a pharmacy is order of magnitude more functional easy and workable. I HATE having no option and being confined by Blue Cross Blue Shield to using this absurd dysfunctional concept of online pharmacy! It should be illegal. I do understand how on paper the cost savings of not having a brick and mortar location seem attractive to the corporation. However this business model when a prescription is required DOES NOT WORK!!!

Because of the health care choice of my husband's employer, we have had to deal with Express Scripts for many years. I have had recent communication problems with Express Scripts in getting ** (name brand-seizure medication). My local pharmacy can fill the prescription just fine as written. I have problems with the generic. By using ES, I have had one call from them and then sent the wrong medication (generic), then called and spoke with the on duty pharmacist and he tells me when it will be shipped (last week) and it was shipped yesterday. If this was a prescription for something minor, I wouldn't mind, but I don't want to have a seizure due to their negligence. I believe I gave them plenty of time to resolve the problem-almost a month has gone by. Hopefully the prescription will arrive today or tomorrow.

This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. I believe it is in their business model to deny every prescription and continue to run you around until you just give up trying. They have outright lied when I was told they were waiting on my cancer doctor to respond to their requests and should only be a few business days. The small cancer center (very professional and organized) had no record of ever being contacted. This scenario keeps repeating and my frustration grows. I was told that my prescriptions must be pre-approved because this SAVES ME money, but my doctor charges an additional $20 if a valid prescription must be revalidated. I have no choice and must use Express Scripts, but if anyone has a choice of another provider, please use it.

After a few more phone calls and about an hour on hold, the medication was eventually sent out. In the mean time I had to pay out of pocket for another pharmacy to fill the Rx. The issue has been resolved at this time.

It is a requirement of our insurance to first go through Express Scripts for prescriptions. I have placed several orders that I have never received. After calling customer service and stating they will express the prescriptions out, I received nothing. Called customer service again about 5 days later and they have no record of the previous call. This is prescription medicine that I cannot fill at a local drug store now because insurance is showing that express scripts already filled the prescription. I have had to go several days without medicine that is severely needed.

I have been trying to get my pain meds for over a month. I know there are new regulations regarding certain medication which is why I started the process early so when I was out there would not be any time without them. I only take I pill at night and I have been without my pain meds for almost two weeks. Every single time I call them up and get another liar on the phone that just tells me what I want to hear to get me off the phone. They lie and tell me that it is being over-nighted free of charge and then it doesn't show up. When I call they tell me they need prior authorization which they received over a month ago. It's the same runaround every single time I call. I refuse to call them again just to be lied to. These people don't care about their clients. I will start looking for another option.

They made a profit of $21 extra. I used them due to insurance requirement. Do not use unless you absolutely have to. Bad service.

This company is a literal death sentence. They will do anything to protect their profit margin instead of offer the correct medications your doctor recommends. Even a basic z-pack wouldn't be covered since they deem it "not meeting the criteria of a medical necessity". So you go to your doctor whom you trust, then find out that even though you pay for insurance and prescription coverage, the insurance company has a right to deny your script because they disagree with your doctor. What has happened to us? This is so frustrating.

Laura ** at Express Scripts said and I quote "We don't reach out to other pharmacies, you need to go back to your Dr and get all new scripts". I can only imagine what the elderly go through. Just thinking about handling my refills with them gives me anxiety. I can't take the generic version of the antidepressant that I'm on due to migraines. So every year I have to go through the appeal process. And every year it's so stressful. None of their employees seem to know what they are doing. You could call ten times before getting a straight answer. I usually go straight to the manager now but even at that shockingly they don't always know how to resolve the issue either. My appeal is due every August. I usually start in July because of the runarounds I have to go through. It isn't always the appeal itself. For example, this time around it took 3 months. I finally thought I have it resolved because I have been approved but then I go to refill the prescription and the only one on file is the generic.
The worst part is they put me on hold for 45 minutes at a time and I can't just sit there because I have to work. I have ten pills left and I don't know what I'm going to do. I started this appeal when I still had 180. Now I have to try and work while going to school with one pill a day instead of two so I can at least have more until this issue gets resolved. I am just praying it will not take another three months. When my husband's union goes to renegotiate the contract I have asked to speak about Express Scripts so that hopefully we will no longer have to use them. My heart breaks for those who are sicker than me like the elderly because honestly even I don't have the energy for this.

Express Scripts recently began handling prescription approval, etc. for Meritain, our insurance company. They have more mistakes handling our prescriptions than I can even begin to describe in this review. Initially, they cannot count. Recently, they were severely confused about a 30 day period, and it took them months to get back on track. We gave then written proof from our pharmacy, talked to many of their employees, had our doctor talk to them, and got Meritain to explain their mistake. Nothing worked. They would not ever admit that they had made a mistake. On several of our many calls, they gave us names and phone numbers that did not exist in order to avoid their responsibilities.
Several times they made promises like saying that they had it all worked out. They said I could fill my prescription on a certain date without any problems. They lied. One time our Meritain representative said she had it all worked out. She said that if we had any problems filling the prescription on the required date we should call her and she would immediately set up a 4 way conference call with our pharmacist, Express Scripts, our Meritain representative, and me. She said it was all approved. Evidently, Express Scripts lied to her too, because Express Scripts denied it all and stuck to their incorrect date. Surely, there is something we can do about companies like this who do not deserve the right to do business in America.

I like the convenience of the 24-hour pharmacy. They were friendly, accommodating, helpful when prescriptions are not being covered by insurance and explains how to get it covered by the doctor. Also, their rapid refill program is a big plus. Unfortunately, due to the convenience factor, the lines are horribly long, also unorganized at times. And if you go during a busy time of the day, your wait is at least an hour or two hours long. Depending on what pharmacist is on call, dictates your experience.

Express Scripts is very accurate with their products. Also the variety that the company has is more than some other companies. They have amazing customer service. They are very nice people and understand questions on little information. Whenever I have a question they are very quick to respond and actually fairly easy to get in contact with. Even though they do have some medications that not everyone sells, the prices it takes to actually get them sent to the pharmacy is quite expensive. Other than the costs of the ordered medication, the rest of the company is actually pretty good.

Express Scripts has slow shipping speed. Orders take too long to arrive and are expensive to upgrade to faster shipping. An order will ship on a Monday, will not reach the post office until later that week and sometimes doesn't arrive for 2 weeks. Be prepared to order your medicines early if you don't plan to upgrade your shipping speed.
Other than that, they are absolutely fantastic. I like their low prices on prescriptions and they're lightning fast order in getting orders in. The fact that Express Scripts works with doctors in getting refills and know how to deal with getting new prescriptions is fantastic. I can get back from the doctor and already have my medicine processing. Customer service was quick to fix a prescription that arrived broken in the bottle and didn't give me a hassle about it! They went ahead and told me what to do with the medicine that was broken and still went ahead and sent new meds. And when a package was lost in the mail with expensive medicine inside (likely stolen), they were able to work it out with my doctor and insurance to have a new prescription filled and not have it count against my copay.

I have no idea how Express Scripts is still in business. They hire incompetent people to deal with customers. Their customer service is a joke, rude and uneducated. Anytime I called there was always a problem. Nothing was easy and they do not listen or understand what is being asked of them, or they plain do not care. I dreaded calling them. It took over 11 mos to get $350 refund. The doctor had prescribed a black box drug. I was only to use it for a few days. To this day I do not understand why Express sent me another dose. I refused the 2nd one and had it sent back. The drug did not work and I didn't want it in the house. I was expecting a refund to my credit card, as I had given my info to use whenever I needed a delivery. After months and months of calling and writing letters, I eventually got the refund.

I switched companies in May of this year. On my prior insurance plan, I had Express Scripts. My new company also used Express Scripts, but there was a 3 or 4 week delay for the insurance to take effect. At that time, I tried to log into my Express Scripts account, thinking I could change the insurance information. I could not log in. I called Express Scripts and they told me my account was deactivated, they were going to delete it, and I had to call my insurance provider and they'd create a new login account for me. Fine, no problem. Anyway, I called my provider and they created the new account. I logged in and noticed none of my prescriptions or payment information was there. No problem, I thought - I'll either get new prescriptions and send to them or use my onsite clinic's pharmacy for even cheaper medicine.
Well, a few weeks later, I received an email that my order had shipped and I looked on my credit card and there was a charge for $77. Keep in mind that NO new prescriptions were sent to them, no prescriptions showed as transferred when I initially logged in, and I got NO prior notice that an order was about to ship. I went to their site and lo and behold, my prescriptions were suddenly transferred but there was NO payment method entered - no credit card was present AT ALL. I went ahead and cancelled any auto refills I could find and I thought "no problem - I'll explain what happened, return the medicine, and get a refund."
Over the course of several interactions, Express Scripts refused to refund me or issue a return. Finally, I reiterated to them that since no credit card information was on their site, I considered their charge fraudulent and would explain it to my bank and would, under no circumstances, pay them. I filed a dispute with the bank, got an immediate refund while they investigate, and figure that I have a pretty good chance of winning the dispute.
HOWEVER, literally the next morning, I get another email - ANOTHER shipment of drugs shipped, this time for roughly $230! I checked my card and noticed no charges on it. The delivery date came and went, and nothing arrived. I checked their site and noticed that 1) The tracking information says they claimed to try to deliver on 9/23 but left a note, meaning that a signature was now suddenly required and 2) The $230 shows as an account balance on my account. Clearly, they read my emails and are trying to circumvent my credit card company and to "get" me by requiring a signature. Interestingly enough, we were home ALL DAY Saturday when they allegedly tried to deliver the drugs and NO NOTICE WAS LEFT. If a notice were left, believe me, I'd take it to the post office and refuse delivery.
Anyway, that's where we stand now. I got another email today saying that Express Scripts had responded to my earlier message but when I went to their site, my message box was COMPLETELY empty. It is very obvious these guys are now playing games, and unfortunately for them, they're not going to win. I advise anyone who thinks about using Express Scripts to look elsewhere. They suck, and I told them that in very blunt terms.

Where do I start. Using the word "express" in their name is a joke. Sometimes takes a week or more for prescription to arrive. Their automated phone system has me screaming into the phone as it NEVER provides me with options that are related to my needs. I had a prescription discrepancy that lasted for about 6 months before it was resolved. A medication has to be "brand name only". My new doctor's office had a problem filling the form out correctly and I was given more than one prescription of the generic medication. It was a maintenance med and I needed to have uninterrupted access to the correct med. The first time the issue of the doctor's office problem was brought to their attention, it would have been more effectively handled by direct contact between Express Scripts and the doctor's office. Express Scripts could have provided training that would have impacted not just me, but several other Tricare patients at that Office. The nurse had confided that they "often had issues getting prescriptions filled with them." The patients are often elderly and did not have the persistence in getting the issue resolved.
The terms "dispense as written" and "Brand name only" got interchanged, and the request was for brand name only. This prompted my receiving the wrong medication. This was the brand name of the generic form marketed by a company, as I was told. I had medication coverage from a local pharmacy denied because the government wants encourage the use of the mail order service. Each time I called, opened another can of worms. I was even denied upon the basis that they could not find my approved medical necessity form, and I was told I needed one from my new doctor. I had not changed, my new doctor ran the appropriate test and the dosage was still adequate.
At this new request, I contacted my new doctor again, this time for the requested form. I finally spoke to someone who found the original medical necessity in their system with an expiration date that will probably outlive me, unless my needs change. I should not have been placed in the position of trying to resolve the situation without some cooperation and intervention from Express Scripts. It wasn't my place to talk to the woman who could not get the script corrected, it should not have been such a nightmare to get coverage for a medication I had been taking for years at that dosage, and I should not have had a sudden problem getting a medication that, up to that point, was properly documented as a medical necessity. But their website is easy to use and clear to understand. Their customer service is overall, very professional curious and helpful, even when I had to deal with very stressful issues.

The website is easy to navigate. The customer service representatives are always friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful too. They always leave me feeling that whatever I called about was taken cared of. The waiting time to get through is reasonable as well. I like that Express Scripts refill automatically. And when your prescription is overdue, they get another script from your doctor. Also they have a 3 month worth of medicine for you. But sometimes I wonder, especially during the summer, that if the medicine is left in the mail box, the summer heat could change the chemical compounds of the drug.

I've always had good interactions with Express Scripts in the past including the last one. I like their mobile app, the medicine cabinet feature, the ease filling prescriptions, the rundown of prices is very good as well, as well as seeing the final price. But I’d like a redesign of the app to be more attractive. It looks a bit dated and it could look a bit smoother plus reminders on refills. Also, Express Scripts send a lot of paper with the orders that aren't necessary because no payment is needed so it's completely wasted paper. It would also be nice to see the option for rushing an order much easier because I really needed a particular medication much faster.

Express Scripts is extremely convenient and totally professional service. Customer service proved to be helpful and fully capable of answering any questions concerning the medications, billing and insurance coverage. I like their accurate and prompt follow-up with physician over questionable products or generic vs brand name medications. Also, services dovetail well with insurance coverage, missing or delayed orders promptly replaced without questions and enclosed product information thorough and easy to understand. However, occasionally drugs changed shape or size when obtained from non-domestic sources. I would later learn that the Doctor prescription was denied.
I called my insurance company and was forwarded to EXPRESS SCRIPTS, the source of the problem. To be honest, I was not very accommodating or polite when speaking to the operator. Again, I am bleeding from both arms and scratching. The operator, who obviously handles many complaints per day, immediately put my call through to an automated system which asked me to rate the quality of service.
I called again and again to see why I was denied relief but each time I entered my ID number or S.S the call was immediately put through to the automated system. So, I was never able to contact anyone to find out why the script was denied. Since, my 3 year old also caught the rash. (Explains why there is no email contact for EXPRESS SCRIPTS.) After they denied my prescription I called and they said they had change their Formulary and decided they would no longer cover the meds I take. I pay them every month for nothing. I found out that the service rep. that you talk to does not even work for Express Script but ES is using them as a vendor. I called my doctor. He called them and told them this was a medication that I could not just stop taking. They wanted him to prescribe ** as an alternative drug. Since when can an insurance company override a doctor's prescription and tell him what they want me to take. The people that do the Formulary are not even doctors and know nothing about medication.
I was taking ** for acid reflux and they started charging an out of sight amount because ** was still under patent and there was no generic drug. I found it cheaper to have surgery to correct the problem with my stomach. I have now received notification from them telling me I can only get my scripts either at Walgreen or CVS and not at Riteaid that is a quarter of a mile from my house. I used GoodRX to get my uncovered medication filled at the Kroger store and it was cheaper than when ES was charging me with their coverage or uncoverage. I talk to my pain management doctor and he told me that when Obama started the Obamacare that it opened the pharmacies to set their own price and what they would and not cover. I have to specify the drug store what generic I can take for my pain medication because all generics are not the same.
People keep saying it's the Pharmaceutical companies charging more but it is actually the Pharmacy Companies that supply the vendors that set the price. It is not the manufacturing companies making the money but they are the ones that pay for the research and development the drugs. I worked at a pharmaceutical company for years and the meds. we were manufacturing was sold to for 8, 9 or 10 cents per capsule depending on the mg. of the drug. By the time the drug hit the consumer they were from $1.20 to $1.50. Something needs to be done about the governments control over our medication and care and stop being paid off by the pharmacy lobbyist. For a country that is so advanced we should have the best medical care in the world but countries that are a lot poorer than us have better medical care than we do.
I will definitely be changing from Express Script when it come time to change prescription coverage insurance. They are nothing but a bunch of crooks with deep pockets and all of these fools that you spend so much time talking to when you call Express Script to just read a script about any complaint they get. They won't let you talk to someone at Express Script because they can't, they are nothing more than a marketing company contracted by Express Script. Just think about all of us that pay them because we are on a fixed income and we have to make a decision whether we are going to eat or get our meds. Can't blame your doctor because they are having the same problem with them and waste a lot of time talking to them when they could be seeing patients. They have doctors around the neck on how he or she can treat their patients.

You don't find out the cost of your medication until they ship it. My doctor recommended that I try mail ordering my medication to save money and always have the medication I need. He sent a prescription for a new medication that I have been trying. It said 1-2 tablets a day however, my insurance pays for 1 tablet a day. I went ahead and emailed Express Scripts letting them know that my doc would resubmit for 1 tablet of the strength needed rather than 2. I got a return email which did not address that then I was notified a day later my medication was shipped. I was charged $134 for a 45 day supply. At a retail pharmacy I pay $10 for a 30 day supply. When I had estimated the cost of the medication using their tools it was supposed to be $15 for 90 day supply. Of course I called customer service and was put on hold for 20 minutes while she researched my case.
I had yet to even tell her what my reason for calling was but she would come back every 4 min to say she was still researching and would return. After 20 min she tells me my meds were shipped and the cost. Yes I knew that. She wanted to give me a number for an appeal on the price due to the meds costing less at my retail pharmacy. I was then able to ask if that number was where I called for a stop on payment or a way to return the meds or have them match my normal payment because it was significantly higher. She says she can refund me $75. So I am still supposed to pay $59 for something that would cost me $15?! No that doesn't satisfy me. I ask for her to get someone who can actually help me. Supervisor comes on and is repeating that it's my fault and the doctor’s fault because of how the prescription was written. I explain the email. She says must have been a communication error.
I am supposed to pay the $134 because my insurance only pays for 1 tab a day. She says they don't call unless medication is over $150 before they charge. Under $150 they just charge and send. I tell her there must be a way to request a refund or stop the charge or have the post office rerouted it back to them. The prescription was just shipped 7 hours prior to my call to them. It was 2:02 am on Sunday when I received the email and I called them at 9:00 am that same day. She tells me to hold then returns to tell me that she can send out a return package and I return the meds once received and I will receive a credit for the cost once they receive and process the return.
I was on the phone for 45 min and the only resolution they could provide was a credit once item was returned. I'm surprised they tried to offer me a refund of $75, like I should have been happy to get some money back rather than none. Express Scripts advertises that I'll save money having home delivery medications and instead in this instance it ended up being exponentially higher. I would advise caution when using this method to receive medications. Unlike at the retail pharmacy you get to check the medication and price at the counter prior to paying, this company just sends and charges.

I have now been a member of Express Scripts for almost 1 year. They have screwed up most of my medications at least once, some several times. My recent experience involves getting a refill on a medication I have been taking for over five years. It is a class 4 medication so I can't get it refilled online. When I called to request a refill I was told that no refilled had been sent by my physician. Checking with the physician a refill request had been generated on May 19th. None of the customer service reps could find it. So the answer from them was - "So sorry, you will have to get your doctor to contact us with a request for refill." If you can't find one that was sent on May 19th, what makes you think you will see a new one? If you can't manage medications in a timely and professional manner why are you still in business?
The company needs to be closed down! I am contacting my state's attorney general office and filing a formal complaint. I am also contacting the HR department of the company I work for and requesting that they remove Express Scripts from their insurance requirements. (Yes, to get medication we are required to use this company or pay exorbitantly high prices at a local pharmacy.) I suggest that anyone reading this who is having similar experiences do the same.

In May 2017, I spent many hours on the phone with Express Scripts (ES). The problem originated because ES continually tried to process my order through the wrong account, which is a contraceptive account (I'm a male) which no one could explain why I had to begin with. This was despite my phone calls telling them which account to process it under. This nightmare to get my medications involved roughly ten of my own phone calls, 3 from my human resource department, 2 from my doctor's office, and 2 from my insurer. This literally took hours of my life. Every time I called, I got a different answer and assurance that the problem was resolved. I finally received my medication 13 days after the prescription was written despite informing ES multiple times that my prescription was running out.
We are back with another issue 90 days later. The prescription was written on 8/12 and I still haven't received it. I've spoken to express scripts since Thursday and was informed of the following. For some reason Express Scripts did a duplicate invoice for this medication which caused initial delays. Then I called on Friday to see when it was going to be shipped out and they told me they couldn't read or understand something on the actual script so I called my doctor's office who then called Express Scripts to clarify.
Then I called yesterday and they told me there was a "customer hold" on this medication which didn't make much sense. I was told yesterday that the medication isn't going to ship until Tuesday or Wednesday of this week which would make it 10-11 days before it is even shipped! I have been pleading with them because I am going away on vacation on Saturday 8/26. They did say when they ship it on Tuesday or Wednesday that they will overnight it but they are so undependable, I can't be sure.

Ordered my medicine 2 weeks ago and I still do not have it. They said it went out over a week ago, now they're saying it went out 8 days ago and it must be the post office at fault, when I track it the post office says they haven't got it yet. Every time I check the tracking from their site it says something different. This is heart medication which I am out of for two days now. Worst service ever.

However, I was misinformed and had to make another trip to the doctor's office. They waste so much of your time. Honestly, each service rep is not as knowledgeable as they should be - especially because they work in departments - There's only so much guidelines per department. Each time I call, I get a new or different piece of information. I will not do Express Scripts again. I don't see how they're still in existence.

WOW since I was told this morning I was not to take this medication as it was not working for me. I later found they substituted on me. When looking at my CVS account the same meds were $24.99. In talking with several people there they said the best they could do is refund me $100... Well, this is NOT acceptable to me. I dont have 87.50 to throw out the window. I am not working at this time and on social security... Tomorrow I will continue the fight, I intend to WIN!

This is the problem! Someone in Express Scripts needs to wake up and discover that we are now in the 21st Century. My last five claims were all rejected because they can't find data that is plainly written on the form in English right from the pharmacy. I am now on my third response written letter for each one of these claims. Are you kidding? I am out of pocket hundreds of dollars at this point and as frustrated as consumer. I used to watch those news reports about the poor Vets who were getting the runaround and kind of always thought "there must be more to the story"... Well, today it is now me who is getting the runaround and I am here to say, that "enough is enough." Congress needs to terminate this contract with Express Scripts and fire the whole mess. I have had numerous problems with Express Scripts. My latest problem is so ridiculous I just had to write a complaint. I am trying to get Insulin Pen Needles for my insulin pen prescription. These are just the needles that screw on to tip of the insulin pen and are sold in boxes of 100. It is NOT the medication. It took me 30 seconds to find them on the "Price a Medication" Express Scripts web page. 2 boxes (90 day supply for $12.06). Even though I gave the person the name from their web page it took over 20 minutes for her to find them and figure out how to order them. It was now a different brand NAME and was now $18 for 2 boxes. So now after about 30 minutes they claim I need prescription from my doctor.
The Express Scripts web page clearly states this is available over the counter. We both agreed that OTC means no prescription is necessary. She would not or could not put my order through without a prescription signed by my doctor. I have purchased these needles OTC numerous times from CVS, Walmart and other pharmacies all without a doctor's prescription. See the attached image from the Express Scripts Price a Medication website.

I've read about the deal between Express Scripts and Anthem insurance. It sucks for consumers and benefits Express Scripts financially. Their service sucks. Filling a prescription takes 20 minutes. They store your credit card and re-use at their whim. After spending 20 min typing everything in and replying to their obnoxious electronic service, the woman on electronic svc cut me off and ended call. Seriously! I've ordered prescriptions electronically for decades with Walgreens. Your system is defective. Probably like your service overall -- cheap!!

Express Scripts filled and mailed a prescription without contacting me first to verify that I needed the medication and approved of it being mailed AND billed to me. They are holding me liable for the cost of the medication, as they do not accept returns. I don't understand how they can legally hold me responsible for something I never knew about (much less approved), but they will hold my legitimate medications hostage unless I pay for the medication sent without my approval.
I asked the representative repeatedly to direct me to a legal representative, or someone who could explain this policy (the representative kept saying it WAS policy, but would not provide any information on what gives Express Scripts permission to do this type of thing). I very much hope that a class action suit will eventually be filed if Express Scripts continues this type of behavior. If a representative responds to this, please tell me what authorizes Express Scripts to bill me for a medication I never ordered or approved.
UPDATE ON 10/04/2017: Express Scripts' slow and terrible customer service aside, I am concerned about a larger issue with them as a mail order pharmacy (there is no way to refuse a medication sent to you without your express consent, and you are then required to pay for the medication). I wrote a review on this site two months ago regarding an issue with Express Scripts. After several phone calls and dozens of emails, no one could answer the simple question I posed regarding the legality of holding a patient financially responsible for a prescription the patient did not give verbal or written permission to Express Scripts to send.
Today an Express Scripts representative told me that filling the prescription was a part of their contract with my insurance company, and that since I have a contract with the insurance company I am therefore responsible (note: I specifically opted out of mail-order prescriptions with my insurance). I hope that in posting this review here that there will be a record of my experience in case others have the same issue. If this process is not legal, I hope it will someday be taken up in court.

In fact, my Dr. gave me a 4 month supply, but ES took it upon themselves to process 3 months of refills and cancel the remaining. I am not sure how they can legally do this. In effect that are changing the Dr's prescription from 4 refills at 60 tablets a month to 3 refills. I am now missing 60 pills!!! I will not use this service unless forced to do so. I would rather pay my $10 a month for the correct dosage. I am 71 yo, worked a full career for Bell System, raised 1 daughter, 4 grandchildren for 10 years, maintain my own home for over 40 years, including all inside and outside work. Life has not been easy. I am now entering the years where pain management has become more difficult. I have arthritis in most of my joints and NEVER sleep through the night without some type of Extended Relief meds. Working with my doctor, Dr. **, Mt. Airy MD. He/We found that prescribing 2 ** 100mg allows me to be pain manageable for 24 hours at a time - 1 every 12 hours, I have gotten my meds from Express Scripts for years now. My doctor sent through a prescript for the **, 180, a 90 day supply - Express Scripts accepted that with the understanding that I would l receive 90 pills at 45 day intervals, and I would have to order the refill because ES considers ** "controlled substance like".
I said that's fine - then I spoke with Ruth, an ES pharmacist. I explained I see my doctor every 6 mos to re-up my meds. I asked her specifically over approx a 20 min conversation, "COULD I HAVE MY DOCTOR SEND THROUGH ANOTHER PRESCRIPT FOR **, 180. 90 DAY SUPPLY, ISSUED IN 45 PILLS AT A TIME?" I then would have this med covered through my next visit with my doctor in Jan 2018. I must have repeated my part of sending thru a "New" request to my doctor with the specifics listed above. I thought she was listening to me and responding to me for at least 20 minutes. She said she would note my files with our understanding then I would be set for pain meds for the next 6 mos.
I sent my doctor an email explaining the request for a "new" prescript - he sent it thru the Express Scripts network within 24 hours. Within the next 12 hours I get a cancellation notice from Express Scripts for the "new" prescript my doctor had just issued. I immediately called Express Scripts controlled med grp 844-232-7500 - got Ruth again. I asked her why the new prescript was cancelled - she said it was issued too soon. I then asked her what was she doing for the 20 minutes I had spent on the line the previous day and I must have said what my instruction was to be at least 6 times - each time she said yes she would note my files how the "new" script would be handled for my dilemma.
She just said that's not the way it works - I again pressed - "what were you doing for the 20 min. we spoke - do you know your job? Now I have to call my doctor and take up more of his time." Her response again - that's not the way it works. I asked her if she knew her job. She said "what do you want me to say?" I said how about "I don't know my job and I'm sorry." I have asked to speak to her supervisor, Dana, she is to call me today 8-2.
I THINK EXPRESS SCRIPTS SHOULD HAVE AN AUDIT AND ALL WORKERS ROUTINELY DRUG TESTED. I feel certain Ruth must have been on something because she didn't understand a word I said, nor what she said to me. I know the younger generations do half butted work with no evidence of ever having manners BUT I don't think senior citizens who are just trying to find adequate pain relief should have to deal with someone who obviously doesn't deserve the job. Our nation has an ** epidemic - with hundreds of millions of pills being distributed - hundreds of million of pills should not be that hard to find the distributors.
Updated on 02/01/2018: I have just hung up from Express Scripts to find out they, both and non-mgnt, and mgnt lied to me saying my doctor had not sent a prescription for a **. I did find out they have some offices in Wash DC. the next screw up. I will show up in person and make a scene like they have never had.

Repeatedly they lose my controlled scripts and "processing" times change frequently. There is a 10 day window to refill a script. You have to guess mailing times and their processing times and seamless controlled substance fills are virtually impossible. They refuse to hold a script received even one day early. I have one missing 8 days now and was told it might be there just not processed yet. So that tells me they are not scanned when they are actually received and sit somewhere where diversion can happen. No remedy for this other than being told to fill locally and pay 3 times the copay repeatedly. This is a benefit I should be able to use without these issues.
UPDATED ON 08/03/2017: On July 31st, 9 days after mailing my script and being told it was never received, suddenly on August 1st, after having a script faxed to my local pharmacy by my doctor, I received notification it had finally been received. Now on day 13 since mailing script. My prescription ran out on July 31. I will be writing a complaint. This ConsumerAffairs site does nothing but inform the public. My private company reply is literally from the same social media rep I dealt with for 3 days who could not help. Nice person but he was also given incorrect information in house about controlled substance policies among other things. Express scripts has NO accountability.
Where was my prescription for the 5 or 6 days they claim they never received it? With diversion being such an issue this is a concern. Are they just sitting in a mailbag for a week until they "receive" it? Something is not right with their lack of accountability. In Florida getting a replacement script for a controlled substance is a nightmare. Got it and then magically my script appeared. Still waiting...

After changing jobs, I had to begin using Express Scripts as my pharmacy. As is the trend for almost everything it seems nowadays, in order to refill my maintenance medications, I had to go online to initiate the process. That's not that big of a deal--I clicked on my prescription history and selected my usual medications for the doctor to approve and submit to Express Scripts. Of the three medications I needed, 2 were sent in relatively mistake-free with no surprises. On the Express Scripts webpage after logging in, my only reference to prescriptions being processed is Order Numbers with Prescription Numbers, where I can also see the doctor, the dates of submission, and the estimated shipping date. One key piece of information was omitted--PRICING. The third prescription I was needing came with quite a bit of sticker shock--over $800 for a 90-day supply.
My ONLY indication of this big bill getting ready to hit me was the deductible meter on the webpage, where I saw that apparently I had already incurred almost a third of my deductible for the year. I think I've used Express Scripts in the past, but this is the first time in a while. This is the first time I can remember where I have requested a prescription but never had an opportunity to review and confirm/agree to the purchase. On the same day, Express Scripts received my doctor's request, notified me via email that my prescription was received, and proceeded to process and ship the order. That very same day, I realized how much it appeared it was going to cost me only because I checked my deductible balance, called an Express Scripts representative, and requested they cancel the order. They said they would TRY, but could not guarantee it would be cancelled as it was already underway with the pharmacy...
To make matters worse, when I signed up online with them, I enrolled in autopay with my HSA card so that I didn't accidentally use another card for my health expenses. Of course, even prior to me ever receiving the prescription, they had already billed and drained my HSA. Like so many other reviewers have noted, the representative (and their supervisor) both stated that I could not return prescriptions, even though I had called the company the day they actually received the prescription and told them I didn't want it. The jury is still out on how this will all unfold, as I have to wait for the payment to actually post to my HSA before I can actually dispute the charge. I seriously don't think that Express Scripts has the legal right to ship and bill customers without them approving and confirming prescription orders--that simply doesn't pass the smell test.
Where does the actual arms-length transaction here occur? The doctor can't order things on my behalf and stick me with the product and the bill (not that that's what he was intending to do either). Other pharmacies (including Cigna Online) always required my approval and payment prior to sending me medications, which is logical. And the additional excuses/reasoning that both representatives gave me regarding how they operate really didn't seem to hold any water--that they filled and processed the order because the doctor issued it (when is this NOT the case?); that my email or subsequent log-in account page can't display pricing because they don't know who might see it (why do I bother logging in then?); that they are required to process and ship the medication if I don't call and tell them otherwise (I called them the same day they received and processed it and told them I didn't want it...); and so on and so forth.
I know they are facing other lawsuits currently, but I'm surprised this method of operation has not triggered red flags before as they are sending people products without confirming quantities and pricing with them, which as a business person myself seems utterly baffling and absurd. And I can only imagine, should I successfully dispute the claim in order to save my HSA funds from this absurd medicine pricing, they will be trying to issue penalties and holding future orders for myself and my children hostage where I am required by my company's coverage to use them...

I called to refill my script on Monday 7/17/17. I was told they would need to get authorization from my Doctor since I was out of refills. I know this wouldn't be a problem on my doctor's end because not only is this medication detrimental for my health but they are ALWAYS on top of things in his office! This is a medication I take daily. Without it, it can affect my heart, my energy, hormone levels, migraines, hair can fall out ETC. When I had not received my medicine by Friday 7/21, I called. After a long drawn out in depth conversation about the rep whom I was speaking to own health issues which were similar to mine I was told oh sorry it hasn't shipped yet! The doctor only approved you for a 1 time refill for 90 days. Do you have a follow up appt with him in September. Yes I do.
Ok well I'll overnight it to you at no charge... Saturday, Sunday, Monday 7/24/17 my medicine never arrived. I called Express Scripts, when the rep finally answered I was placed on hold for over 10 minutes (not at all exaggerating! I do sales and customer service so I pay attention to my hold times at work. We're required to check back in every 2-3 minutes). When he came back on the line I was told my doctor denied my refill. Well, I know that's a lie because my doctor stresses to me the importance of taking my medicine every day. (Last time I was there and my levels were way off and I literally felt like a hospice patient.) I asked to speak to a manager. She told me the doc denied it due to a duplicate request (because of my insurance I have to use Express Scripts or I only get 1/3 of the medication for quadruple the costs).
I was advised to call my doc the next morning and request a 7 day emergency refill at my local pharmacy and advise him that Express Scripts sent him a request for a 90 day refill which I did. I was also told (and please pay attention to this) that IF they got the approval from my doc before 1 pm Tuesday 7/25 they would overnight the medication to me BUT it wouldn't go out until Thursday or Friday (guess they don't understand the definition of overnight). My Doctors office has an app they use to notify me when scripts are requested to be refilled, how many fills I have left, test results, appts etc. I got notification they sent in my script for the emergency 7 days and 90 day refill on the 25th. HOWEVER I never got notified when they got the original or denied it on the 18th AND IF that were the case why didn't Express Scripts notify me?!?!
Also when I called on Friday the 21st the rep that was overnighting me the meds gave no such info that doc denied it! COME to find out via the Express Scripts app THEY had it in the system that same day I called to have the script filled I also cancelled it! I have all the screenshots to support all of that is stated above! Nothing but incompetence and not even management taking accountability for their numerous errors! After not having my medication for over a week I have been in bed for the last 2 days missing work.
The kicker is now Express Scripts appt says they got my Doctor's approval and it should ship out on Monday 7/31/17. WTH!!! I am truly hoping corporate higher ups will do something about the numerous mistakes with not only me but others as well... maybe I'll just contact the local media and perhaps an attorney to light a fire under your butts to fix issues like this from continuing to happen! I have been very successful getting issues resolved with my local school board on social media! Guess I'll wait and see if someone responds before escalating this to CEO Tim Wentworth.

I could go through and describe how I attempted to fill two prescriptions for medications I've been taking for the last 5 years through Express Scripts - but why bother. I never got the medications, despite the doctors office sending them updated prescriptions. 8 weeks, the orders were in their systems 4 times each for each medication. Each time... fail fail fail. These are not exotic medications, they are not hard to find, they are not uncommonly prescribed or being used for some off-label purpose.
These are two, incredibly common medications, prescribed millions of times each year for people with very common, but treatable medical conditions. My doctor has been in practices for a decade. Phone calls to Express (snotty customer service each time - somehow I am the problem. Not the fact that my prescriptions are sitting unfilled with no indication of what's being done about it - just sitting there...) Phone calls to the doctors office on behalf of Express Scripts to get them information they didn't actually NEED but insisted on (I've transferred active prescriptions between pharmacies before - never needed a NEW prescription when I had an active prescription - even to a competitor).
They FAX confidential health information to my doctors office - and my doctors office (nor should any) doesn't accept confidential health information via fax. I asked them to just cancel the orders, I'm going back to my local pharmacy and they couldn't even do that. I had to call the insurance company and ask them to never accept billing from Express Scripts on my behalf - which caused them to call Express Scripts and fiiinnnallly I am free of this disaster of an organization.
Don't do business with them. Don't be tempted - you're not saving any money. Your time is money, and any potential annual savings I might have been able to achieve if they could actually FILL A PRESCRIPTION which I think is their primary purpose... I spent on the phone between them, my docs, and the insurance company. Complete and utter waste of my time. And after all of that, I ran out of medication as a consequence of these clowns having orders open they couldn't fill but couldn't cancel either. I don't know how to describe it other than to say I'm sure this is what it must be like to get a prescription filled in hell. Surreal.

But now Express Scripts is requiring I only get it filled by mail through them and I cannot use my prescription card. Now it will cost $100.00 every three months. Which is not saving me money, it is higher and I have been without my medication now going on over a week because of their delay in filling the medication.
I tried to get them to let me fill it at a local pharmacy and she said if so they would penalize me and I would have to pay over $600 dollars for a month. I expressed how they are not looking out for the consumer and their health and that every day without my medication is crucial and her comment was "it's just the way it is, see it however you like..." I've had to be an Express Scripts customer for over five years. They routinely claim they haven't received new prescriptions from my physicians for non-narcotic controlled substances, despite the orders having been sent. In this most recent incident, they assert they never received the order when my physician's office told me they have a fax confirmation of it having gone through. They don't have this problem with other medications, so I strongly suspect someone is diverting the controlled substance prescriptions.
Their customer service staff are useless. All they are able to do is apologize profusely. They are never able to fix anything. The rep I spoke with today couldn't spell the medication names properly, nor could she distinguish between them and similarly-named, but not controlled, other medications for which I have current open prescriptions. If they weren't the benefits manager for my employer, I would never use them. The Rx requires a prior authorization from my physician and now I will have to wait until Monday for me to contact my doctor to have them submit the form.
Last month a Rx that I ordered was also canceled. Why? I had received an email saying it was shipped and the following day I got an email saying it was canceled. I called them to find out what the story was and after speaking to a few different people, no one could give me a logical answer. They are the worst company to deal with when it comes to getting an Rx filled easily and reliably. Why do I use them? Simple, they are the company on my healthcare insurance plan. Additionally, ES recently changed the medication bottles and labels and eliminated some information we used to keep track of timing. And, the new bottle/label combination requires a half hour soak in hot water to remove the label. We live in a large facility and feel a strong need to keep any information out of the sight and hands of any of the trash/recycling handlers. The ES website is an absolute pain and the refill reminder e-mails are out of touch from when we can actually get refills. And more, any problems we've had have been equal pains to reconcile. I suppose ES could be worse for retirees and I'm sure it will be based on our total experiences.

I was called and told that Express Scripts was out of **! The number one oral drug for type 2 diabetic people. And also told that they didn't know when it would be in stock again. Totally unacceptable.
Updated on 07/21/2017: After talking with Express Scripts on the phone, again, nothing has changed. They (Express Scripts) want me to change my medication to another medication based on their supply of **! Not going to happen. Why are they not ordering the number one oral drug for type 2 diabetics? Sounds to me that they might be needing money to stay afloat. I know that it has been more than TWO weeks since I first talked to Express Scripts and was told they were out of **. If there was a ** order, and was on back order, then they would still have a promised by date.
I also lay blame on Tricare For Life. They must have some sort of reporting from Express Scripts. As a min that report should be monthly and list overages, shortages and outages. When Express Scripts identifies that they are OUT of a drug or will run out within the month, that should be reported immediately. Then steps should be taken to fill that drug at least on an emergency basis until it is replenished. If I must go to the Pharmacy to pick up ** I might as well get all the other medications also. Do I need Express Scripts?

This is the second time I've tried to use this service as recommended by my Work Comp insurance. In May the physician's office screwed up, but instead of verifying to correct the order, they deleted it. On who's authority they deleted it, I have no idea. I was down to one day's worth of medication for nerve pain before I actually got my medication. It took a phone call from my claim's adjustor to them, and me having to go to a local pharmacy to pick up medication, then receiving the medication from them later.
Now I've been waiting for three weeks for a refill to be processed, one medication was shipped, supposed to be 2 day shipping per the rep I spoke to, but it's already been 5 and still don't have it. The second medication is supposed to ship three days from now, two and a half weeks after it was ordered, so don't expect it until the middle of next week, and I'm already out of this medication. Two strikes, I'm not going to go for a third. I've contacted the claims adjustor and requested that I be able to get my medication locally, not have to wait three weeks plus to get medication to control pain from a fractured vertebrae. Ridiculous.

Placed an order for 3 Rxs and system stated expectation on shipment date within 3-5 days, a week later find out a 1/3 Rx delayed for 3 weeks - UNACCEPTABLE. They should notify customers whose health is dependent on this medication that there is such a ridiculous delay and help sort out options. Had to get Walgreens to step in and help out. Express Scripts thinks bothering my doctor is the answer - like they have time to fix the POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE issues and call around town to give Rxs out. I hate that I am tied to this company Express Scripts - I will definitely be using our company social media to help get another provider to REPLACE Express Scripts. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE that impacts my HEALTH and WELFARE!

Multiple calls and two unanswered written appeals which were never answered bring me here. Strong armed into accepting EScripts mail order when they stopped authorizing my Rx at my local pharmacy. The first of a half dozen clerks I spoke with told me my ** which I was getting at the Retail Pharmacy for $25 a month would now be just pennies shy of $1900.00 Don't worry because that changed to $680 and 545 before going back up to 1900. One of my blood pressure medications that at Retail was $8.00 with a manufacture assistance program is now 185 at EScripts and another has gone from zero to $385. Not to mention the medication for a brain tumor and as I'm allergic to statins, the medication my physician had me on for a trial basis which lowered my lipids from the 390's down to 30 without shutting down my kidneys the way **'s did when they almost killed me.
EScripts wants me to restart statins to prove they can potentially kill me or put me on dialysis and the kidney transplant list before they authorize the new medication. I was on hold for two of the three hours on a call to them last week, and again different people contradicted the previous person, including the manager who said according to his records I'd met my deductible and out of pocket and should not be paying anything. He told me that I should not feel bad because most people don't understand how insurance works. I had asked when finally forced to be browbeaten into using EScripts, that anything mailed to me require a signature, and I be notified by email of the shipment due to multiple mail thefts in my neighborhood since the opening of the local Metro light rail which crosses through several gang infested areas.
They sent the first Rx in a plastic envelope small enough to fit in my mail box. The second was a box which was scanned as delivered into the mail room at my building, but I never got. At first the rep tried to make it my fault, but admitted that the notes said I requested signature only, and why, as well as their failure to do so. A promise for immediate shipping of replacement meds was made, which took over two weeks before they shipped and to date I'm waiting on.
Today I got a message to check my EScripts account for a message. It said they were sorry they had been so problematic and had tried to call me today (Sunday) at 640PM (which I'm assuming was Eastern time), as I read the message at 4PM Pacific, but they did not have my number; well a check of my phone, no call, as they said, but that begs the question, how did they have my number earlier this week when I got four hangups and when I let the No Name, with the same 800 number as the hangups. I got a message from EScripts that they have been trying to reach me, and to call them back with a long claim number and my ID number for them and my insurance date of birth, mother’s maiden name, and a half dozen other things. In my opinion EScripts may be one of the leading causes of preventable hospitalizations and deaths for insured individuals we will be seeing over the next couple of years.
Updated on 07/16/2017: EScripts Reply: “My name is Adam and we are sorry that you had a negative experience. We would like to discuss your situation further. Please reply to this message with your member ID number, full name, telephone number and your address including zip code to ExpressRxHelp@express-scripts.com. We can have someone reach out. Thank you.”
My retort: If I only had a penny for the number of times I've heard from EScripts, "we are sorry that you had a negative experience..." The numerous times I've been on the phone. Much of it on hold while they try to wrangle a "supervisor" who gives a different account, and copay amount, or tells me they don't know why I'm being charged because their records tell them that I've met my deductible and copay. Then to add insult to injury they tell me, "Well you just don't understand how insurance works." I've been hung up on with an Oh S. When I tell them I'm a nurse and have worked for the insurance company for almost 20 yrs. so I think I know something about insurance, and when a hireling lies to me.
No I won't reply with all the information you've asked for. Why you ask? You cannot ensure I'll talk to the same person, your employees usually don't read the notes when the previous 25 people have given me all sorts of crazy and contradictory statements. That's when they don't straight out lie to me. Based on the postings of others here, it's not a unique situation. So cut and paste all the apologies you want, I have no trust that you Adam or the others who work at EScripts can or will be of assistance to anyone on this board.
If EScripts provided the services they were contracted to, rather than behaved in the manner that caused two states to successfully sue them for millions of dollars they took which should have been returned to the Medicare recipients in their states, or the multi million dollar lawsuit from Anthem for over billing and other nefarious practices, they would not have to hire people to act like EScripts cares here and on other complaint boards.

It's taken a long time but the biggest issue, now getting my medication directly to me someone took notice & got it to the right person to fix. There are many computer glitches, but I'm very grateful that the gentleman really took his time & put a lot of effort into solving this for me! I feel like I have a go to person for the major problems again.
Original Review: July 7, 2017
They are notorious for passing the buck. Not that any of my old issues have ever been resolved, but now there are new ones. Living in an apartment complex, they have made it complicated just adding a line requesting USPS to bring directly to my apartment & not to the office - especially for controlled substances which I should only be signing for, not ANYONE who is in the leasing office. USPS seems to be trying to help me, why isn't Express Scripts taking ANY responsibility for their part? They say once it's out of their hands, not their problem it's up to who is delivering. Then once it's delivered it's out of their hands so regardless of it actually getting to me or not, since they obviously don't ensure it & already have made it clear how much I mean as a customer. Then if there are any issues it's on me!
I've proven time & time again what they have on the website isn't always correct & the fact that reps I speak to don't always put in correct information so I end up looking bad no matter who I try to get more information from. Even called just now asking about a specific medication that I've been tracking, it's always had main info being NOT SHIPPED YET & ETA for shipping 7/7. I even spoke to a 2nd level supervisor last night about many things & this was one of them, he didn't say anything had changed. Of course yet again I look today & now it says Prescription Request Has Been Received!? It never said it had been waiting for one, like others I have that are STILL saying that from the same time this was requested & they don't have estimated delivery dates. So I ask to speak with a manager, not a 1st level or even 2nd level supervisor (like last night), but that was what I got again...
He says he is a supervisor, won't send me to a manager, said he is also a pharmacy specialist & I told him at this point I don't think he's at the level I need because I was finally getting results before by filing a complaint here & getting 1 person through your DOD department but wait he's also from the DOD department too. He asked for me to give him a chance & took a while for him to even allow me to speak. Needless to say his solution was to use a different pharmacy company, NOT them or another address. He read notes & of course tried to tell me things that were not quite right because he wasn't listening to me. This goes on with the problems I had with him, he had no good reasons for more issues with my medication not having updated information & no one informing me when I directly asked... some things he blamed on me.
Later I said I will have to try to have another 1 contact person from the DOD department & he asked what I meant by that... I told him since he is in that department he should know, then he started to hesitate & that's when I told him there's a difference between customer service & the DOD department within ES, but he said he's can handle it. I guess that's what he meant by being a pharmacy specialist or whatever he called himself in that position too! Who knows exactly what his real title is but I'm about to file with the BBB reading ALL of these other complaints on here. My problems wouldn't have to escalate IF someone actually cared & did their job right the first time, put in all the right important notes (NOT writing I LOST my medication!), etc... I actually gave 2 stars because of the fact that I KNOW there is at least the 2% left of the company who care about us & take our concerns seriously.

So I have my physician call in a three-month supply of **, an injected drug for Type 1 diabetes. I get a call that same day from Express Scripts saying they need address verification before they can ship the medication to me. Their automated calling system gives me an old address, one that I haven't lived at for seven years, which I find weird, because they've been sending my other meds, like insulin and pills and such, to my correct address all this time. So I tell the bot on the other end of the line, "NO" when it asks me to verify my old address, which sends me directly (and supposedly) to a human. Then I wait on the phone for ten minutes, to grainy, repetitive muzak, only to have the system tell me, "This line is busy. Please call back at another time."
The original message told me I only had two days to confirm the address, or they wouldn't process the order at all. So I try again. And again. On the fourth try, I get a human. I go through the process of giving her all of my information and having to repeat it to her several times because she "just can't hear" me — even while I'm trying to enunciate into my phone. Then, she suddenly tells me that "I don't have authorization to deal with this account — You're with Anthem BCBS — and I need to transfer you to someone else." THAT's never happened before when I've needed to contact them.
So there's another wait of about 3-4 minutes and I get another customer service rep, who makes me repeat the whole "Give me your information" routine, speaking over me and cutting me off when I try to describe my problem, which is supposedly a simple address verification. So I finally give him the info, getting angrier and angrier as this farce proceeds, and then he announces that they have had the correct address all along and that there is no prescription renewal on file for the drug in question.
Now, please explain to me why I got a phone call, asking for address verification if the doctor's office did not phone in the prescription in the first place? Good God, this had to be the most incompetent, poorly-run horror show of a company, and what makes this worse is that people depend on it to deliver life-saving medication. Incompetency here can result in sick or dead people. When he told me that there was no prescription, I hung up, after sarcastically asking the question at the beginning of this paragraph.
Now I have to call my doctor back, get his staff to phone in another 3-month supply to this travesty of a company, and hope to hell I actually get my medicine in the next two weeks, because I only have a few days of doses left, and my insurance won't let me use a local pharmacy for anything other than one month's worth of supplies, for three times the copay, which is already exorbitant for a Tier 4 drug.
This company needs a better phone navigation system, better training for its customer service reps and for GOD'S SAKE, a way to transfer customer identifying information from one rep to another without forcing the poor patient to repeatedly give the same damned info over and over and over to various people who then forward the patient to yet another person who for some stupid reason, can't help them either. I hate having to call them at all.

I am not sure I have the words to describe my disappointment with this company. In the 18+ months I have been a client/patient, I have not had a single positive experience or have completed a phone call where I was not left frustrated and angry. The staff is very rude, unwilling/unable to problem solve, lack empathy and compassion, and have no desire to be helpful. It is always a fiasco ordering my specialty medication or any refill of medication for that matter.
I do not appreciate having to order my medication through this pharmacy to have my insurance pay for the medications. If I want to pick it up at the pharmacy down the street from where I work, I have to pay 8 to 10 times more. I think that their kickback system is inappropriate. I should not have to pay more to pick up a prescription where I choose. I now have all of my medications auto-ship, whether I need them or not, so I do not run out. If I try to order 2 weeks before I run out, they tell me "I can not order yet". If I order when I have 10 to 14 days of medication left, I will run out of medication before it gets to me regardless of which shipping method I choose.
I have briefly skimmed other reviews of this pharmacy, and I ask myself "Why are there so many bad reviews? Why has nothing been done about the quality of service? Why does this pharmacy not take accountability for its actions?" I think the answer is simple. As long as the insurance companies continue to contract pharmacies like this, they are going to get paid no matter how they treat people.

I was unaware of the 2 refill at the pharmacy policy so when I went to fill my 3rd prescription, I was told by the Pharmacy that the insurance wouldn't pay it. I paid for my prescription then followed up with Express Scripts. First I was told, "no problem, fill out the Claims For for reimbursement which you can get online. Be sure to include the Pharmacy receipt (the one stapled to the prescription) not the register receipt." Faxed the claim in and received a Denial! The Denial read "THIS IS A DUPLICATE CLAIM, WE HAVE ALREADY PAID YOUR PHARMACY OR APPLIED THE AMOUNT OF THE CLAIM TO YOUR DEDUCTIBLE."
I called ES back and was told, nothing could be done. Requested to speak to the next person in charge and was told that nothing could be done because the Pharmacy had already run the claim so this was a duplicate. We discussed back and forth at length why my paperwork was considered a second claim. What happens is the pharmacy runs the claim through the insurance and if you haven't called ES to request using the pharmacy rather than their mail order service there is a limit of 2 orders. This then places a claim at ES. So when you request a refund because you as the consumer have paid the "large fee", the claims department sees there is an existing claim the pharmacy ran and rejects it. However, they had not already paid my pharmacy or applied the amount of the claim to my deductible.
The supervisor said there was nothing he could do, a claim had already been filed and kept referring to the high cost of the prescription as a penalty. This to me was like ES stealing from their customers because they were stating false statements in the reason for their denial of my claim for reimbursement. I requested to talk to his supervisor. Guess what???? There is an override they can perform to get the claim approved. The 3rd supervisor was very nice, understood the situation and took care of my refund in about 10 minutes. I should have it in the mail in 21 days. I hope this helps those that are looking for a reimbursement. I spent about an hour on the phone to get $117.17 but I was also fighting for the principle. Keep asking to speak to the next one in charge until you get your reimbursement or a response that makes sense.

I take anti-depressants that cost 28.00 at CVS for a 30/day supply, so 90 days would be 84.00. A 90 supply for the same anti-depressants at Express Scripts are 180.00. If I dare to buy them at CVS that is 5 minutes from my house and on my way to and from work, with a DRIVE IN WINDOW and wonderful pharmacy assistants and pharmacists. I have to pay a 100.00 penalty from Express Scripts. So I said okay, I'll buy them from Express Scripts. I put my prescription in (MY LONG STANDING PRESCRIPTION WITH 2 REFILLS left on it) online two weeks before my supply is due to run out. 4 days later I get a note that they have to verify with my doctor that I need this prescription and that she needs to write me a new one. I've been taking this medication for two years. Then 4 days later I get an email that they need to verify my address that they just sent one of my OTHER MEDICATIONS TO.
I verify it online and then they call me on the phone for two more days and threaten to drop my prescription order if I don't call them back by 6/23. I do. Immediately after that I get another email telling me they need a verification and authorization to charge the cost of the prescription to the credit card on file. There's some imaginary authorization cap, (that I never put on the card) and they must call me before they send out anything above the cap. Remember if they had CVS's prices, I wouldn't be anywhere near the cap. So I call, give my name, address (AGAIN), phone numbers, and verify that they can use my credit card. The woman who is clearly not in the U.S. is telling me how they're going to get my medication to me in four days. By this point I have used up 10 days or so of the 14 I had before my prescription was to run out.
They ask me do I have enough pills, I say, "I'm not sure. I don't think so." "Oh so we'll try to get it to you faster. You should have it by Tuesday 6/27." I go on the website on 6/28 because of course my prescription is not here and the website says that it should be in my mailbox today. I go out to see if anything is there, nothing is there. I now have 1 pill left. I take my last pill this morning hoping that my new stash will come today. I get to work and there's an email from Express Scripts that they didn't send out my prescription until today 6/29/17 and that I won't receive it until 7/1/17 and that's an ESTIMATE. No apology, no one saying they've called my doctor and explained the situation. Nothing. So now I have to stop work today, call my doctor and see if they'll give me an emergency count. Which will make the insurance upset and cause me all types of problems at the end of the year with my deductibles.
Or I can be off my medication for a minimum of 3 days or a maximum of 5-6 days and start getting migraines, joint pain, vomitings, and violent mood swings. What kind of company is this? And they've done this not only to me, but to my father who had Alzheimer's. My mother and husband who are diabetics and a neighbor who has MS. What company who is supposed to take care of people treat people like rats. They're truly disgusting.

Express Scripts the company previously Medco it was much better, shipping times for temperature sensitive medication was delivered in one day. Now with Express Scripts it is two days via UPS and it sits on the truck all day and does not get delivered until 7 or 8 p.m. So by the time it reaches me the medication is warm. I explained this information to Express Scripts customer service on 4 occasions since last week including today and was assured that the medicine would shipped overnight to be received by 6/27/2017 only to find out it was shipped two days again. So if the medicine is not usable I will have to start this process over again and will run out of life-saving medicine. Temperature sensitive medication should always be sent overnight, especially since Express Scripts will not allow me to get it from my local pharmacy.
I was hoping that the new company would continue to provide medicine that is cost saving, but they don't. Instead you are only allowed to order medication from their list and you can only fill it 2x at the local pharmacy. The consumer should be able to purchase medications that more economical to them. I also noticed that the medicine has increased by $200 in one month. I also understand that the manufacturer of the medicine gives express scripts an 80% discount that is obviously not passed onto the consumer. I wish something could be done about this price gouging? I also have medication that my husband needs and express scripts does not cover the medication even though a medical condition is the reason he needs the medication. Sound like Express Scripts is not a consumer friendly company. I would like more options and better pricing.

The copays seemed awfully high, but after having been reassured by the HR rep at my husband's company last fall, we were sure we would see a huge difference once we met our (high) deductible. Well, met the deductible, have depleted our HRA, and my son went to fill his prescriptions, and was told he needed to pay almost $400. I had not investigated up to this point, but dug around on the Express Scripts website, and found that up to this point, we have paid $1384 in PENALTIES for not participating in their stupid 3 month supply mail order program!! Even if we were just paying the copays WITHOUT the penalties, we can't afford 3 months' worth!?
I am so angry I can hardly think. How can they do this without ensuring that the patient/customer isn't fully aware and notified? I have sent emails through the site, so we will see if they provide me with information to appeal this, because I most definitely will!! Rx are wrong most of the time, they are always days to weeks late in the mail, etc. When you call them, you get a non-English speaking person who reads off a letter what EX SCRIPTS ALLOWS THEM TO SAY... Ask anyone of them what color are their shoes? You will hear the say, "I need a prescription for that"... yes, that is the level of intelligence on their front line people. First, I want my own number to press on my phone for ENGLISH! Apparently if you speak any other language you can get a service rep that you can understand, but if you speak English, any heavily accented foreigner will do just fine. Express Scripts, which is our prescription coverage co. through my husband's job, is MAKING us use their online prescription service. They are telling us that we have to use Walgreens or their online pharmacy to fill our prescriptions and that we have to fill a 3 month supply at a time. We live out in the country in a small town that has its own pharmacy that does a fantastic job of filling our prescriptions and they know all about what and why we are taking the medications that we do. The nearest Walgreens to us is a 60 mile round trip from where we live and between my husband and I, we take 14 prescriptions. Most of my prescriptions have to be filled around the same time, so to fill them for 3 months at the same time would be a HUGE EXPENSE for us, especially when we are on a fixed income! How is this saving us money!?
This, to me, doesn't seem like it would be legal to FORCE someone to use either their pharmacy or Walgreens. We have had Express Scripts for our prescriptions since my husband started with this company (20 years) and have been filling them at our hometown pharmacy all these years. In March they started sending me letters telling me that we had to use them or Walgreens and we had to fill them for 3 months worth. When I called Express Scripts today, the woman that I talked with said she was sorry, but that's the way it is. It is so frustrating that some company can force you to use their pharmacy or Walgreens and not what is close and convenient to you just makes me so upset that it made me cry!!!
The woman I talked to told me it takes from 10-14 days to receive your prescription but I only have about 2 days left on my insulin and she told me that I would have to call my doctor and have her call in an emergency prescription to last until their service gets my insulin to me. She also told me that it was cheaper to get my prescriptions 3 months at a time so I selected one of them for her to price and it came out to be the exact same price as the monthly price is! I don't understand how they can force you to do this. Is this even legal???

This company revises its coverage annually. It seems that the drugs that are in demand get pushed to a higher category. The game seems to be: charge higher and higher co-pays and maybe the patient will just go away and do without the drug. Yet, premiums don't drop. Got gout? Sorry, just suffer. They'll cover the generic but at a sky-high co-pay, but only after applying delaying tactics. They love to put barriers in front, like pre-authorization, just to delay. When I first started using Express Scripts, I was pleased. However, in less than one year, the service has changed from impeccable to horrendous. I received prescriptions from my previous physicians and it took them over 6 weeks to fill the prescriptions. I lashed out at the doctor's office staff members because I thought they were not faxing in the prescriptions, when in fact, they had. Express Scripts kept calling me and telling me they were going to cancel the orders unless they received "validation" to fill from the doctor's office. A signed and faxed electronic script IS validation. I was led to believe that my physician's office staff members were verdantly calling Express Scripts and cancelling the prescriptions, which was not the case.
I spent hours and weeks back and forth with these representatives, and then, when I sent them a payment, they sent my information to subsidiaries to hound me for a payment that was already mailed. I was so frustrated that I sent an extra payment via credit card, and they still refused to acknowledge the payment, and my insurance companies and bizarre subsidiaries were placing successive auto-calls on my mobile phone. I received a prescription on March 23 from the doctor, and just received it on June 16, which is totally and UTTERLY ridiculous.
To this date, they are still not acknowledging payment from the check they cashed, and the bank verified the check was cashed by Express Scripts. The company is still invoicing me for a payment that has already been made! I am receiving non-stop calls from these subsidiaries expecting me to provide them with confidential banking information. Unfortunately, someone forgot to inform the planet that I am not a dumbed down politically correct Orweillian, and that I have no intention of complying to psychological tactics designed to make intelligent people turn into apes.
God created me with a mouth to talk, and with a mind to think and reason. It is FUTILE to pay a company funds that they are going to deposit into their own accounts and have the unmitigated gall to bill someone for a check that was paid not once, but TWICE. I do not want a credit. I want that check to be applied to that invoice. Don't blame me because the election didn't turn out the way you wanted it to. This corporation is hazardous to the health.

I've had my share of online pharmacies and honestly, only have good things to say about Express Scripts. Their app works well, their customer service is friendly and helpful, and have had no problems at all getting my prescriptions on time. I'm sorry for the other folks who had bad experiences, and I surely know what that's like, but my experiences are very favorable. I've had only good luck.

I sent Express Scripts a prescription because they wanted a written one. Well they say they never received it. I had other prescriptions to be filled and they needed more information from my doctor who says she has called them, emailed and faxed them the information. They will not call your doctor, they lose prescriptions. I am not sure how they stay in business. Does someone have to die because of their lack of intelligent before something is done? They are going to end up sending someone the wrong prescription.

I have had an issue with an overactive bladder for quite some time now. I have been prescribed **; all to no avail. Then my doctor gave me some samples of ** that worked wonders for me. When a prescription was ordered Express Scripts refused to cover it. I tried the appeal process and was still denied. I can't afford the $600 to $900 dollar cost myself and don't know where to turn. This health issue is miserable enough. It drives me crazy knowing there is a medication out there that helps and the insurance won't help me with it. This is not the first time this has happened with Express Scripts. A different health issue came up and the initial prescription was denied so the doctor prescribed something else, denied as well. After the 3rd prescription from my doctor got denied I called Express Scripts only to find out that they don't cover anything in that class or group of treatments. I'm disgusted with Express Scripts!!!

On September 29, 2016, my dermatologist filled a new prescription for the first time with Windsor Pharmacy on my behalf. At that time I was charged: $70.00 for a 30 day supply Quantity: (1) 60gm can. Windsor Pharmacy applied a coupon to cover the $70 cost so that my effective Copay was $0.00. On October 17, 2016 my doctor's office attempted to get pre-authorization to refill my prescription by getting in touch with Express Scripts. At this time a pharmacist by the name of J. ** filled it despite me not having ever signed up for mail order prescriptions given the expensive cost of purchasing medications via this method. Additionally I was never contacted by him or anyone else from Express Scripts to authorize this purchase prior to it being shipped to me, therefore the order should never have been filled for these 2 reasons.
Subsequently I received it in the mail and was charged $175.00 for the same medication and for the same amount to my astonishment. I contacted Express Scripts on the November 25th 2016 to clear up this discrepancy and spoke to a pharmacist by the name of Steve who explained to me that Express Scripts received the prescription from my doctor requesting the following dosage: $175.00 for a 60 day supply Quantity: (1) 60g can. Given that my original prescription was for 30 days and I only received 1 can and this second prescription was for 60 days, given that the can only comes in one size (60gm), the only way to fill it would've been to send me 2 cans of medication for a total of 120gms based on me taking the medication once every other day as originally prescribed. Despite the discrepancy between this prescription and my previous one, Express Scripts failed to contact me or my doctor to get clarification.
As a result, I only received one can of the medication despite being charged $175 which is more than half the cost of the medication for the same amounts that I originally got through Windsor Pharmacy. Based on these acts of negligence I am requesting that I be credited the full amount of $175.00 since it should not be my responsibility to have to pay money out of my pocket due to other people's mistakes. Additionally, by filling the prescription without having been notified beforehand, I was not able to use the coupon that I have with the drug manufacturer in order to offset the balance owed in order to have an effective copay of $0.00 as I did with Windsor Pharmacy. Once I pointed this out to Steve he advised me that it would take 72 hours to correct this and that he would transfer me to the billing department to have the $175.00 charge credited back to my account.
I was transferred to Kimberly from the billing department who reviewed my account in order to make the correction. Based on this conversation I was made to believe that this was corrected only to find out several weeks later upon receiving an automated phone call stating that I still owed the amount of $175.00 that this clearly was not straightened out as I was originally made to believe. This is just another instance of negligence on the part of the employees of Express Scripts. When I called to inquire about this phone call that I received it took several subsequent phone calls over the next several weeks with several different supervisors before I was finally able to speak to Kerry on January 10, 2017 who credited me the amount of $105.00 leaving me with the balance owed of $70.00.
Kerry then advised me to contact Empire directly in order to appeal the remaining $70.00 since she was not allowed to reimburse me for more than the $105.00 that she already did. This was only after I asked my doctor to get in touch with Express Scripts to speak to them on my behalf since I was being blown off by the previous supervisors that I spoke to. Given this major inconvenience, it is clear that Express Scripts needs to either develop or revise its procedures for filling electronic prescriptions since had I received a paper prescription as I have in the past, prior to this recent change, this never would've happened for the fact that I never would've filled it with Express Scripts as opposed to doing so with my local pharmacy as has been the case for all these years.
Express Scripts procedures should include ensuring that they contact the patient directly before filling a medication for the sake of ensuring that the medication is not only correct but to also make the patient aware of what the cost will be before it is shipped out to avoid this type of problem from ever happening again. They also need to be better trained in dealing with customers since ultimately it is the customer that is paying for the health insurance coverage NOT the doctor, therefore the customer's opinions and input matters as well as the doctors. Since having faxed this letter on 3/4/17 at 2:31 PM Eastern standard time, I waited for over a month to hear back from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and did not, only instead to receive a collection letter from NRA Group, LLC on behalf of the Express Scripts for the amount of $70.
I subsequently contacted Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield on 4/14/17 at 2:45 pm EST to get a status on my appeal and spoke with Joshua, Supervisor of member services only to be told by Joshua that it was not received despite me having phone records to show that it was faxed successfully on March 4, 2017 at 2:31 PM Eastern standard time to fax #: **. Joshua informed me that this number was inaccurate and gave me the following fax number of ** along with a reference number and told me to re-fax it to this number instead and that it would take 30 days to be processed before I would be given a response. When I attempted to validate the initial fax number, I was able to find it online in a grievance file provided by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield which confirmed it to be correct.
When I tried to validate the ** number given to me by Joshua I was not able to find it online nor was the 411 operator from directory assistance. I therefore decided to get in touch with the collection agency directly and spoke with a supervisor by the name of Michelle ** at 800-360-2998 extension ** on 4/20/17 at 3:30 PM Eastern standard time. I explained my situation to her and was told that she would contact Express Scripts on my behalf to follow up with them and that she would get back in touch with me by 4/27/17 regarding the status on my appeal. I never received a return phone call from her even after contacting her on 4 different occasions starting on 4/28/17, 5/1/17, 5/2/17 and 5/4/17.
Since my conversation with her, I received 3 more collection letters from NRA group, LLC. For these reasons I have decided to file a complaint with both Consumer Affairs and with the Better Business Bureau due to the negligence of Express Scripts in addition to that of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and likewise Michelle ** from NRA group in addition to the lack of customer service.

The only thing that has changed was my doctor, and Express Scripts wants me and my doctor to jump through several more hoops. At this point I am not sure I will get the prescription which I have been without for about one month. In all fairness, the reason for the initial delay was partially my fault, assuming my prescription needs would have been brought to my attention by being notified, through email, that action was needed.
Express Scripts has my email, but seems that to see what's going on with my plan I have to constantly check in with them. What's the purpose of having an email in the first place, if not for communications with me? I think, Express Scripts needs to be investigated, along with the VA, for lack of service to the veteran. Perhaps the administrative dollar is being totally consumed by Express Script staff? Is this a service or is it an economic boondoggle for political cronies?

A few days later I checked my account and saw they took it out. I called and the representative said the only thing she could do was change it so it wouldn't happen again. I have my prescription coverage through Express Scripts (ES). When my company switched coverage in 2017, I instantly knew it would be a problem working with ES as it has been in the past. First, I had to struggle with them to get specialty medication for a chronic condition. Today, they charged a $98.00 PENALTY because I had a prescription filled at a local retail pharmacy. They charged this penalty even though I have met my out of pocket deductible for the year and my plan should pay 100%. They are trying to force me to use the mail order pharmacy even though I'm not sure if my doctor will even keep me on this medication as he is trying different options depending on my response to the meds.
There has to be someone at this pharmacy who has a brain to understand that one set of rules will not always apply to every person's medical situation and there should be a one-time override or exception available for these situations. The sad part is I am fortunate to have two health insurance plans (UHC and Tricare) and unfortunately, they both use the sub-par ES pharmacy. For goodness sakes, Tricare dropped CVS when they should have dropped ES. I will also be sending a letter of complaint to my employer regarding this pharmacy.
After my first incident with ES and my online complaint, they contacted me to see how they could do better. Here's the answer... Get it right the first time before your customers become so frustrated they decide to post written complaints about the terrible service you provide. Take the time to look at all the complaints and one-star ratings on the web regarding your company. That is not a coincidence. You're getting it all wrong and the only reason you're not out of business is because our health plans force us to use your services. I hope the penalty you charged me was worth it.

I was prescribed an injection to help with some health problems I was having. I was told by my dr, that they would send over the precert and ES would call me. I needed to answer the phone to get the injection. I waited 3 days, and called ES. I was told Accredo would be handling my injection, and they got them on the phone. I asked how long it would take to get a call back and was given a 24 hr timeframe.
When they called me, it was all things they could have seen from my account. "Was the injection going to my house?" "When was my next appointment." This was something they could have asked when I called in. I am still waiting for any type of call back about this situation. The last time this happened, the doctor's office worked it out so I didn't have to pay for any of it. If they would have called and let me know, I would have been able to see if they could do that again or wanted to prescribe a different medication.
My husband went to the doctor's last week and needed a refill on his diabetic medication. I talked to the nurse and told her that we were getting nasty letters saying we couldn't get the medication at the local pharmacy without paying full cost and it would have to be ordered through ES. We waited a few days and I called ES to see what was going on. I called and was told I owed $475.84 before any medication would be mailed. I went through the roof. I was never notified that the injection was over $300.00 and the diabetic meds cost more through ES, than the pharmacy.
I was told, "If I could get it cheaper, I need to go there." I repeatedly told her that all I wanted was the diabetic meds, my husband is now out of the meds. I was told either pay all of the money, or I got none of it. I asked how it was legal for them to hold his medication hostage until I paid for the injection. I never got an answer. I hung up and sent an email voicing my being upset, and how is it legal to hold medicine hostage.
If I were to go to the local pharmacy, they wouldn't make me pay for my meds in order to get my husband's medication. The email I got back from ES was that they could put me on a payment plan for the injection - nothing about my husband's medication not being filled or that I could pay only for his. They had better hope he doesn't end up in the hospital since his medication is gone!

An American customer service rep agreed with me and changed the refill amount to the correct one. They have a foreign regular customer service call center. All reps are difficult to understand. Most reps have a hard time understanding what I am saying. It appears that their internet customer service is in St. Louis.
Express Scripts will say anything to get you off of the phone. Express Scripts always blames the doctor for not responding to refill requests. My company switched to Express Scripts a few years ago and last year they made it 'MANDATORY' to use the mail order for prescriptions. I tried. It took 2 weeks to get my meds. I have diabetes, and I was OUT for 2 weeks. My blood sugars spiked to over 400 and I started to have serious side effects from not having my medications. I put them on auto fill and in MULTIPLE instances, I would get an email 2 weeks before I am out that they are preparing to process my prescription. Only to find out when I check as I am close to out, that the order was cancelled and the new order can be processed in a year. Yes May 1, 2018. WHAT!
After last year's, experience, I began filling my prescriptions locally, the medications are new, name brand, and expensive, but I have a manufacturer's coupon/discount card, so they cost me $5 a month. Express Scripts wants to charge me $341 for 3 months. Why would I pay that? Until bam, one month they decide to charge me a 'Penalty fee' of $421 through my local pharmacy. So now they get to hold my medications hostage, they refuse to refund my 'Penalty Fee' will not approve any further prescriptions through the local pharmacy, and have the nerve to have managers call me (suggesting they might help) only to say they can't process the medication until I pay them, yet THEY HAVE MY HSA CARD ON FILE.
I ask again, how is their business considered legal? I have a daughter with several medical and mental health issues, and I refuse to fill any of her meds through their mail order service. At this point, her physician writes hand-written prescriptions each month that have to be taken into the pharmacy to filled, but I fear one day getting hit with another *ransom* aka penalty fee at the local pharmacy. This seems more like extortion than health care.

Just keep in mind that I pay a monthly premium to have Express Scripts be my pharmacy, and they cannot keep medications on hand. Issue one, my Dr submitted in an RX on 5/2. On 5/5 Express Scripts contacted my spouse at work and gave a reference number. I contacted Express Scripts via chat and gave the reference number. The chat rep advised me that Express Scripts is completely out of a medication. This is a common drug used by diabetics. So how they can be out of 2 versions of it is just disgraceful. No explanation except that I need to speak to the pharmacist. Well the pharmacist should have CONTACTED ME. I have a job and I do not have time to waste on the phone with Express Scripts. This is also days later after my Dr sent the prescription in.
Issue two, I chatted with Christopher **. He was very rude. Would not give a specific reason why both versions of my medication were out. Then I asked him to make it to where once the medicine comes back in, that it does not auto fill and send it out. When I asked him if he had done this, he got all smart mouth and tried to drop the chat. So I asked 10 times to speak to a supervisor. He refused saying that I need to call in. Again I have a job and I am at work and I do not want to waste my lunch on the phone with Express Scripts. I should not have to call in. It's 2017 and the internet is practically everywhere.
So after the 10th time, I asked him if he would show his supervisor his chat because I was really upset. He refused. So I asked for his supervisor's name and he refused to give it out. Regardless of me specifically that I would call in to speak to his supervisor. So he refused to answer my questions and assist me. On top of Express Scripts being out of my medication.

After placing an order, the Express Scripts representative asks if I wish to pay using the credit card on file and I always say yes. Since last year, Express Scripts has been sending me emails that my bill is overdue a month or so after placing an order. When I call to check on it, they quote me the exact price of the meds I previously ordered and paid. I refuse to pay again for the meds and ask why they're billing me again when they have my card on file. I'm always told I need to have the card place on auto ship and that will take care of the problem. I told the rep that I question their accounting practices and will not do it.
Now I get periodic messages that my account is in the arrears for over $4000.00 (I haven't used them long enough to accumulate such a bill). When I call on that I'm told my account is so messed up, if I just pay $45.00 that will clear my account. I called Anthem Blue Cross and they tell me they only handle the medical paperwork and Express Scripts handles the medication since they have the contract. When I ask to speak with Blue Cross personnel in charge of the contract, I'm told there is no one to talk with. I have stopped using Express Scripts and will see how long I can go without my meds. I believe Express Scripts is double charging me and Anthem Blue Cross has turned a blind eye to the problem. I'm writing my congresswoman next, but I doubt anything will come of it. The latest issue (one of many) concerns their shipping. I had received a Tracking # for my migraine meds but nothing would show up. So I waited a few days and tried again with no results. I called Express Scripts and they said they had been using a new delivery system with DHL and I asked them why since it was obvious it wasn't working well. A week had gone by with still no info showing up on my tracking #. Express Scripts told me they are "experimenting" with DHL, sometimes using them and sometimes not.
I again asked why are you using a shipping company that takes my meds 7-10 days to arrive when before that was not an issue. So I called the USPS to ask them and even they could NOT find the tracking #. How can Express Scripts give out tracking numbers and they can't be tracked? Everything with them is no, no and NO. I think it is horrible that military families are subjected to this terrible care. I'm getting real close to using Walmart or Goody RX. My husband has also been waiting since the 26th to get his RX and was told it should be here today. He had a RX with one refill and called it in and was told he couldn't have a refill even though it says on the bottle and he would have to call his dr. So he had to call his dr and get 7 pills and the refill was supposed to be taken care of. This has never happened before either. All these new rules and nobody tells you UNTIL you are going to run out.
Not sure why DOD is letting this company manage our meds. Horrible reviews and horrible service. I just received my migraine meds as a generic made by Mylan and I have to take 2 to even feel a reduction in pain. My first question is why am I getting this brand generic? Isn't this the company that charged over 600 DOLLARS for EPIPENS? Why would the gov't do business with them? Now I have to go back to my doctor again and explain again how Express Scripts again is sending me a drug that does not work and my doctor will then have to write a letter and explain to Express Scripts it does not work. I need brand name and Express Scripts will spill their usual quote. Generics work as well as brand name... Really these people to be put out to pasture somewhere. The aggravation and frustration levels are reaching epidemic levels.

My daughter was in a serious car wreck years ago breaking her back in 3 places, breaking her pelvis in 2 places & received a head & neck injury. She requires 2 ** time release pills daily to be able to tolerate the pain & to even function. [This drug is very tightly controlled requiring a new prescription monthly & cannot be submitted electronically.] She has had Express Scripts for over 10 years & initially they covered the drug. Suddenly they stopped covering it & we had to go thru a Formulary Exception ordeal yearly. This year they even cut her time down from 12 months to only 9 months so we had to start in December. We mailed the documentation as required from doctor requiring a signature of receipt. It was received. We did not get any confirmation of getting it so she started calling them getting the run-a-round; her doctor's office finally directly submitted the request from there -- still no answer.
The drug store called & was told it was approved so they filled the medication. We then received a letter telling her that was a complimentary fill & she would have to go thru the Formulary Request submitting paperwork. Again I mailed the entire packet again by Certified mail so now I had almost $20 in postage alone. I also, the same day, Faxed the packet from Staples & it was confirmed that they received it. That was another $10. I got the signed receipt back also as before in December. Still no response. She started calling every number we could find again staying on the phone for 2 full days. She was told by 1 person that we sent all the paperwork to the wrong state but it was the address in the letter. Finally that woman supposedly called her doctor's office & called her back telling her it had been approved for 12 months.
In the meantime we go to the SHIP people & since she gets extra help she was able to switch companies which we did & it will be effective May 1st. She took her prescription that day to get it filled -- drug store had already tried running it thru & supposedly it was ok. When they filled it & ran it it was declined -- We're talking about a $450 a month prescription w/o insurance help. She is a single mom so money is very, very tight. Note - Insurance knows that if she does not have this medication she will have to go into drug rehab -- It is the only medication that helps & you cannot just stop taking it. She goes back home & tries to call Express Scripts but is put on hold indefinitely. Then she gets an automated voice call telling her that she tried to fill a prescription not covered by them & she would have to go thru a special Formulary Exception procedure -- We have been doing so since mid-December.
We have been getting this "Formulary Exception" for approximately 7 years now. If they had simply told us they would not cover it that would be one thing but instead they are lying - saying they have not received any paperwork from us or from the doctor. My question is: I have 2 different names that signed - where is the paperwork??? I manage an elderly apartment complex for the lower-income elderly so I help my people deal with these Medicare Drug Companies on a regular basis - This company is by far the worst. I am so mad right now that they had best be glad we're not face to face.
Express Scripts does not care about their customers -- Their employees evidently are liars - I am so glad to be able to get her away from them. I plan to file a Medicare Complaint but I am finding that is a difficult thing to do so evidently they are not concerned with any backlash from Medicare. I will be more than happy to submit copies of the signed receipts where the packets were received by Express Scripts if anyone needs to verify this.

I am displeased, and even more, very disheartened by the treatment I have received from the customer care staff at Express Scripts. I have spoken with many of their representatives over the past few months regarding prior authorization of a medicine I require to maintain a normal life and employment. This medicine is neither a controlled substance, nor does the cost in any way affect the representatives' finances or performance reviews, so I cannot understand why so many of them are unable or unwilling to assist me?
Each time I call, I am given a different answer, either it is approved, or it is not. If not, the blame is always placed upon my physician or my Health Plan, which has contracted Express Scripts to manage our Pharmacy claims. And each time I attempt to have my prescription filled, it is incorrect, either in number or date of refill, both of which are controlled by Express Scripts.
My physician has spent weeks with them, working to get all of the necessary forms provided in the necessary way. She made a very simple, easily understandable request. After the staff at Express Scripts filed her request for one week (by their own admission) when I called again they approved the script for only 30 days. Additionally, the way in which their approval was worded only allowed me to fill the script one time before it expired, for one-half the number of tablets needed! When I called to inquire about the approval, I was put on speakerphone, and the collective staff members were coaching the speaking representative what to ask next. I feel my physician's time has been wasted, and I have been made a fool, many times over, apparently.

Because we have to use them per insurance Cigna... Every refill they do not know how to count 3 months. Refill in November (3 month supply), next refill in May. WTF! Asked for a vacation override (refill to ship on Wednesday, my Husband leaves the previous Friday). One week early is all I needed. Told no problem, override in place. 3 days later, no prescription. Call - will be shipped on Wednesday. If you are calling for a problem, tell the first person you speak to, "I need your manager", tell the manager "I need your manager" and then you might get some help.
Updated on 5/8/2017: To add to the problems I've previously written about... This weekend (May 6) I logged in because one of my husband's prescriptions was very low (4 pills left)... What had happened to the automatic refill shipment? You stopped providing automatic refills on **, and did not notify us! How in the world am I supposed to know you stopped an automatic refill on one of our prescriptions! Just thinking of your company has me in anger and frustration!

Express Scripts doubles as prescription drug insurance and pharmacy - the company will strong arm you into snail mail prescription refills for maintenance drugs and they do it through constantly denying refills from local pharmacies so that you have to call in. And they do this no matter what the story is that the next customer representative gives you.
After I began my coverage, I was warned by the ES that if I did not fill my maintenance drugs through mail, I would pay a higher price. I called the company and was told by a customer service rep that I would not be covered AT ALL unless I used ES mail order service. I called back later and asked to speak to a supervisor, who very kindly spent time on the phone with me, telling me that my prescriptions would be covered through a local pharmacy, just at a higher price; he went through each of my prescriptions with me and told me the cost difference, and I told him which one I wanted to switch to mail order for savings - every other prescription didn't offer much or any savings, and I preferred to use my pharmacist.
The next time I tried to refill a prescription, it was denied and I had to call ES three (!) times from the pharmacy to get an "exception" as there was no record of my previous conversation and the customer service rep once again insisted that I had to switch to mail order for any insurance coverage at all. I gave in and called back from my car and asked to switch my prescription from my pharmacy to ES. The next customer service rep told me that I had to call my doctor for a brand new prescription, as ES does not transfer prescriptions from pharmacies.
Ever since, I have chosen to pay out of pocket and have been researching ways to drop my prescription insurance from my health insurance policy. The good news is that this week, Anthem announced it is dropping ES. It can't be soon enough!!! People need to complain - LOUDLY - over business models like this. It puts a wedge between patients and their healthcare providers (in this case, the pharmacist), limits choice and completely does away with convenience, puts unnecessary strains on accountability to consumers, and is ethically questionable in terms of business practice. Don't use ES unless you have to!

But, I have now discovered the only sure-fire way to get anywhere with Express Scripts - Tell the Customer Rep when she asks, "No, you have not answered all my questions, and I need to file grievance". After dealing for weeks with no satisfaction, I was assigned a Grievance Counselor who got all my problems resolved, and my prescriptions sent to me overnight. Perhaps, if everyone filed grievances, Express Scripts will correct their problems.

I am convinced that this company is very shady and need to be investigated. I've had to deal with them for the last two years and it doesn't get any better. My husband has diabetes and every year they change the test strips they will give you and you have to get a new meter because it's a different manufacturer. They just substituted different strips without consulting us and when I got them and called they said they no longer covered the ones they covered last year.
I was told we would get a free meter but no one seemed to know where it was coming from or if it was coming and then I was told we would have to buy one and then I was told we would get one free but there was no record of anything. They finally gave me the number of a device supplier and the supplier told me when ES wants to get rid of a customer, they give them their number. They weren't even involved in any way with the meter.
Every time you call, no matter what you call for, it's a different story. I can't tell you how many times I have been switched to a pharmacist only to have no one ever pick up. They were also filling 30 or 50 day prescriptions for 90 scripts my doctor had submitted. The co pay was $187 for 30 days or 50 days or 90 days, so they fill for less in order to get more money out of you. I finally got some service out of them by posting a scathing post on their Facebook page. My coworker's wife was denied coverage for her anti-rejection drug (she is a transplant patient), even though she had all of the documentation. I told her to post on Facebook and all of a sudden her drug was covered.
My next step was to file a complaint with the Dept of Insurance in my State but the Facebook post saved them from that fate as they finally responded. I am convinced they are not honest, but don't know how to get them investigated. They are one of the reasons are health care system needs to be overhauled. All I can suggest, is try their Facebook page and see if you can get help that way. One other thing. Control what they can charge on your credit card. You want to review each and every charge so you have some control because getting any money back from them is almost impossible, even when they are in the wrong.

HORRIBLE customer service. I have talked to dozens (probably 40 in the last 3 years) of customer service representatives and they are rude, incompetent, misinformed, unhelpful, poor attitudes, difficult to understand with their heavy southern accent. Even when requesting a supervisor to assist me because the representative has NO CLUE, you still get misinformed. One supervisor tells you one thing and another supervisor tells you something totally different. The supervisors get defensive, rude and have a "snippy attitude" as if I did something wrong.
Every time I have to call for assistance I always try and give the 1st, of many, representatives a chance and I'm ALWAYS DISAPPOINTED! Express Scripts MAKES the patient go through multiple hoops and in the end they still deny you the medication your doctor specifically prescribes. They always want to go the CHEAP route and send generic meds even when your doctor specifically, because generic does not work or has terrible side effects, writes "Brand Name Only."
Express Scripts makes you go through a "prior authorization" process, only to get denied, then they tell you to go through the "benefits review department" only to get denied again, then they say go to the "appeals process" only to get DENIED, DENIED, DENIED, DENIED. Also, because my employer uses Express Scripts for medication benefits coverage, I'm stuck and have no other options to use a different pharmacy unless I want to PAY full retail price.

I said I had never heard of them and I was happy using CVS. She said I could no longer use CVS, would I consent? Again, I said I've never heard of the company, and the woman told me if I did not consent to change to Express Scripts, my insurance would no longer cover any of my medication, would I consent? I told her I would find out what was going on from BCBS directly since I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THEM. She said I could not call BCBS, I had to consent right then and there or insurance wouldn't cover my prescriptions anymore.
As we are having this conversation I googled the company. I told her I thought she was lying to me, and no, I would not consent. I immediately called BCBS and while they do prefer you use Express Scripts, it's not required. So this company FLAT OUT LIED trying to get me to change to their company. I did find out that even if you have monthly medications, NEVER choose to put them on auto refill or else you will get the same call.

They have even changed my prescriptions to suit themselves just so they can save money. I even called the FDA to try and get help. I called my congressman the other day and at last got some useful information. Their office is sending me some paperwork to fill out so an investigation can be started.
So listen up folks. In order for us to get this problem solved we ALL have to stick together and work at it. Number one, each and every one of you write or call your congressman and fill out any forms they ask for. Second and maybe the most important thing you can do is on your computer go to DODIG.MIL. After the page comes up click on the red square that says hotline then follow the prompts. Tell all your complaints. Hold nothing back. If enough people do this the gentleman I talked to at DOD has assured me that it will start an investigation there too. So let's get this nightmare over. Call your congressman and go to DODIG.MIL so we can it done. Thanks and good luck to us all.

And this time I get a COMPLETELY different version as to why my meds show not being processed? I have now also received well over 50 apologies today. There needs to be some serious training at Express. No notes are communicated, and then your CSR's get upset with me the PAYING customer because I know what I am talking about. Using Express Scripts for medication is a nightmare. I will never use them again. Normally you walk into a pharmacy, check the price for a prescription or use a discount. Either way, you are able to decide whether or not you want that prescription. With Express Scripts, you cannot. I had the same prescription from my doctor, 3x for the last 6 months. The first 2x, they sent me a generic brand for $20. The third time, they sent me another brand that cost $175. That's a huge price increase. You would think that customer service would contact me about the change. I mean the last two prescriptions were the same, and cost much less. Good customer service especially a pharmacy service should contact the doctor or patient to confirm before delivery.
I called and spoke to a rep named Roberta who have listened with no interest. I explained that I received the brand name instead of the generic this time thinking that it was a simple fix. The rep pretty much made me feel like I was lying. I read the ingredients to her, and again explain it is technically the same product just a different brand. She conference in a pharmacist who confirmed that it was the same ingredients, and clearly said it was generic vs brand. And even worse they took responsibility for filling the prescription incorrectly but covered their ass by saying they filled it correctly the third time, conveniently charging me $175. Roberta did not paid attention to the pharmacist. When she finally spoke on the call again it was clear that was away from the call after connecting me to the pharmacist.
I requested a manager, she transferred me to Tim - the supervisor, same attitude, same process, I very much doubt he was a supervisor. He conferenced a different pharmacist who explained the same info, and went further by saying that the brand that they send me the first 2 prescriptions had been discontinued thus why they sent me the more expensive brand. After 1 hour and 12 minutes talking to them and Tim yelling at me, he told me I pretty much got a steal from the previous prescriptions because the pharmacy completed incorrectly. And then contradict himself by saying it was my doctor's and my fault that the prescriptions were done incorrectly. Finally, he offered to reduce the cost by 50% as if he was doing me a favor so I ended with the same product but paid $67 more. No apologies.
One of my prescriptions was not covered by my insurance so they sent a letter to my doctor, not a phone call but a letter. Again, they did not contact me. DO NOT USE EXPRESS SCRIPTS. Save yourself the trouble. Use a local pharmacy, they will help you find discounts online, and if not you can walk away instead of being stuck with a bill.

Dealing with Express Scripts to get a needed medication is a nightmare from hell. Do not use this company if you have a choice. DOD is using it and has used it for a long time. There is something going wrong with this company. The employees stick up for the company also - they've been told to do so. We have been dealing with this company since Dec 2016 to get a brand name medication authorized that has been helping my spouse for the last ten years. It never was a problem for this authorization til now. Now they are only authorizing a generic, which doesn't work, and are ignoring all the paperwork for justification the doctor has sent about ten times, that states to the contrary. They deny they have received any documentation from the doctor to authorize brand over generic, but they do have a prescription on file.
Today, I was told the reason they aren't sending out the medication is because there was a change in benefits. There is no change. They are liars and just don't want to pay for this medication. Tricare should get out of this relationship with Express Scripts because they are just causing a lot of grief for patients who need their medication. The system has grown exponentially in the last 10-20 years and is now so huge it is unmanageable. Every time you call customer service or prior authorization department or any department, you will get a different person every time. It also takes up to 7 days for them to receive and "process" faxes from the doctor, so that by that time, they are lost, and they say they never received them. Then you start the whole thing over again. This has been going on for almost four months now, and they have never sent this medication through the mail. It is a totally unusable system.
I pray that someone with authority in the DOD and Tricare health systems will get wise and look into what's going on with Express Scripts. There is something totally wrong here. They have an antiquated system that forces everyone to make phone calls to the different department -- no emails, and only faxes, which take a long time if ever, to get into their system. I also received a letter from them saying they have authorized the brand over generic, only now they are saying the letter is no good because it only authorizes the brand name drug, but not the brand over the generic override. They said they need another form for that, which the doctor has already faxed to them about 5 times now. I think somewhere along the line, this company is crooked, but can't prove it. There is definitely something wrong here. People are going to be dying because of this company, and they'll file lawsuits before anything gets done.

My wife is on a special media action for a chronic illness. Because the copay is so very high, we get a copay assist from the drug manufacturer. This assistance has always been applied to our deductible and out of pocket maximums. Today, after receiving bills from Express Scripts for medication that should be fully covered (we reached our out of pocket max, or so we thought), come to find out, Express Scripts has unilaterally decided that the copay assist will not be applied to the deductible.
To make matters worst, this isn't just going forward. No, the uncaring folks at ES have decided to make this change retroactive back to 1/1/17. The trickle effect is devastating. Both of us received treatment and medications we thought were covered, that we would not have had performed, had we not been at our maximums. Now, thousands of dollars in bills will be headed our way based on ES's change, made with absolutely zero notice to us, the insured.
When we called ES to find out why, not only were the reps and supervisors unapologetically rude, the only justification for this immense power was because they "didn't think it was fair" to apply the assistance payments to the maximums (they have yet to be able to cite any language from our policy that grants them this power). NEVER USE EXPRESS SCRIPTS! They're uncaring, unconcerned, rip off artists who employ the world's most unabashedly rude "humans" to deal with customers.

For me this medicine takes away my headache, nausea, eye sensitivity and any other condition that comes with my migraines. I have tried several other drugs but didn't like the side effects plus I'm a truck driver so I can't have anything that will cause drowsiness.
I started a new job last December. Express Scripts is the providing Rx company. At first they told me they weren't going to cover it because I didn't have a prior authorization. They told my doctor I had to try a generic drug (there isn't one) then and alternative drug (with many side effects on the label including "Do not operate Heavy Equipment). Finally they approve me to take ** but limit me to SIX pills a month. My doctor has been fighting this so called appeals process to increase the quantity limit. Twice they approved it and Twice they took it away claiming my plan doesn't allow for that type of appeal process. In the meantime I go unmedicated.
If I agreed to take the alternative medication I could have as many as I want because they are cheap. But the ** are $57 per pill therefore it's worth having a dizzy truck driver out there running over your kids or if he decides to obey the law and not take mind altering drugs while operating heavy equipment he (on some occasions) goes untreated and becomes unable to work and spend sometimes days in a cold dark bedroom suffering in pain. All to save a multimillion dollar company a few bucks!!!

We kept getting notices that we could save money by ordering my son's maintenance nasal inhaler in a 90-day supply. His inhaler is an 80 mcg dose with 120 doses per inhaler, which he uses one puff per nostril, twice a day. It costs $85 per inhaler per month. They offered $213 for three inhalers, which should have saved us $42 for three. We initiated the purchase for the 80 mcg using the open prescription he already had (which had enough refills but was written for only 1 month at a time). They could see the correct dosage in their records, which had been filled successfully at CVS numerous times. When they went to the prescribing doctor, the doctor's office made a mistake and sent them a script for the 40 mcg inhaler, which has 60 puffs. The name of the inhaler actually is **. This prescription is for a 20-year-old male, as they could readily see in his records. They filled it with the lower dosage.
When I called to tell them that we need to return the medication because it was wrong, they said that the error was from my doctor's office and that they would not issue a refund of $213, nor would they send us the right dosage without us paying an additional $213. They got a pharmacist on the phone who said that they filled it with what my doctor's office prescribed. When I asked why they didn't call the customer when they noticed the discrepancy in doses, that it had been filled at the 80 mcg in the past and that the patient was a 20-year-old, she said they don't do that. I asked, well why not? Wouldn't that be quality control? Couldn't they have called the doctor's office to confirm? No. I asked for a refund. I'm happy to give back the medication. It is unopened and unused. They won't take it back. They also won't write it off.
After escalating the call to a customer service rep, a supervisor and a third person, the best they tried to buy me off with was $76.65, half of the copay or some BS. I said no, I want ALL of my money back because I, the consumer, did nothing wrong in this transaction-- except use Express Scripts in the first place. I have since called my insurance provider-- Highmark-- and issued a complaint against Express Scripts. Highmark contracts with this shoddy company-- let them go after my refund. If they do not write off the $213, I will then launch an appeal. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH EXPRESS SCRIPTS OR MEDCO HEALTH. They do not care about their customers. They should take a lesson from Amazon or Zappo's on how to treat their customers.

I tell her about the mail mix-up and she puts me on hold. A few minutes pass and she returns to the line telling me she is talking with her supervisor. She then returns to me and tells me it's the medical departments mix up because they only have my husband's address and it's not the Rx side for Express Scripts that made the mistake.
I told her to stop because telling me it's not your fault IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. First your supervisor as she indicated was helping her should have taken time to speak with me so I could give him or her the same customer service lesson I gave to the customer service rep. You never tell a customer "it's not our fault" and whatever supervisor or manual tells you this is incompetent and should be replaced. I really dislike doing business with this company, but have little choice and this is my way of venting the frustration I have with Express Scripts!

I have Express Scripts through my employer. Fortunately I also can refill my prescription at local pharmacies. Express Scripts takes too much time in sending certain medications. Also some of the generics they have are made in Asia. Any company can file a generic with the FDA and generics don't have to be tested on people before release. I got some from Express Script which turned out to be much weaker than equivalent medications and it caused me a lot of problems.

I'm writing to expose the unethical practices of Express Scripts. Express Scripts is denying coverage of three compounding medications my infant son (born prematurely at 28 weeks) needs in order to live. I have two neonatologists, my pediatrician, my Collective Health health care member advocate all advocating on my behalf.
Regardless of the medical necessity of these medications, Express Scripts continues to deny our appeals (four so far, over the course of four weeks) with "no clear reason" (an actual quote from a person at Express Scripts). They redirect my calls, close early, have poor phone connection, and keep me on hold as a way to wear me down. This is unconscionable! Follow me or msg me on Twitter at ** if you are going through a similar situation. We have a voice and need to hold these multi-billion dollar companies accountable. Express Scripts is killing my premature son. I will never stop fighting for my son!

Let me spare anyone considering using Express Scripts. Don't use them! They lie, they are bizarre, they are inconsistent and they are all around horrible. They quoted me a price (two different times) over the phone for ** eye drops and said we'd get 3 bottles for $150. They only sent one bottle and still billed $150. I managed to get them to change the bill to just $50. Silly me, tried using them for refill. This time they only sent 2 bottles for $150. The Dr office faxed them a new prescription requesting 3 bottles (per ES price quote). Well that was a waste of time for the Dr office, ES refused to fill the prescription properly and still wanted $150.
Knowing this would happen, I never opened the pkg and returned the 2 bottles per return address label. We don't take kindly to being quoted 3 bottles for $150, then they refuse responsibility. Though returning unopened pkg, they still want $150... for NOTHING. I will NEVER pay them. I have turned ES over to our employee HR to handle the case. We are DONE with them. Please avoid them at all costs, and you won't save any $$ anyways. They will lie to you and send you fake apologies that have no merit.

You would think you would save time if you could retrieve your medications from your mailbox rather than going to the pharmacy, but that hasn't been the case for us. In the past couple of months we have spent over two hours talking to Express Scripts agents because there is something wrong with our accounts, twice our medications didn't arrive and we had to get overrides from the insurance company so we could get out prescriptions from the local pharmacy. It's been one frustration after another. It's more reliable and less taxing to visit the local pharmacy. Well worth the small savings from ES.

Express scripts pharmacists decide whether they will fill your rx or not. Usually it takes them over 31 days to send out meds, and they are usually the wrong kind. My doctor has spent hours each month trying to get the pharmacists to fill my rx's and the pharmacy says that it's been reviewed for a year so no problems filling them until I send in a rx. I literally go for over 30 days without my meds. Some are needed to make my body function. They don't care and usually hang up on me when I call. I've finally referred this to an attorney.

Express Scripts is far worse than just bad!!! Obtaining your meds from Express Scripts is virtually impossible. My doctors prescriptions go unanswered and telephone calls to them are ignored. Over a month later, I still have no meds. I find their response to my email messages to be condescending and have nothing do to with my concerns. These people are stupid. So, just stay from Express Scripts.

Express Scripts is a mail order pharmacy that works with companies all over the USA. If you need to speak to a Pharmacist, once available, the customer service is tops. They handle all scripts sent by doctors and are open 24/7. If you need your meds fast, it's overnighted, or you do your own refills over the phone or online and you have them in 3-5 days. I've used Express Scripts for six years and have not had one problem. No matter what the weather, you can order from the comfort of your home.

Express Scripts HORRIBLE. Do not use. My husband's company REQUIRES WE USE this RIDICULOUS RIDICULOUS company for maintenance medications. We wait until - 10 days after the prescription is due to be refilled on HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION AND HEART MEDICATIONS NEEDED MEDICATIONS, refills not new medications. They take 3-5 days to process, refill does not come due in their computer until refill date, they take their sweet time to "process" it then send it out regular mail another estimated 3-100-gift-card-doom days shipping.
How does this company legally sell prescriptions? I do not want to do business with them, I'm made to use them. I called about the prescriptions, 7 days later, I asked the idiot on the phone (who has no earthly idea how to spell the word medication much less pronounce the medication) why was the med so late, but furthermore how are they legally able to get by with this. Please help report them to BBB and whatever can can be thought of to do away with this. It's unethical and NOT LEGAL.

Terrible! Ordered placed for important medications. Called 3 different times and told it was being sent. The last called, she listened to me vent… probably put me on hold. Will shipped in 3 days but again I was told only 3 days ago it was being shipped and I asked them to repeat the information that it was being sent. But payment was due, NO problem... call me. You should have phoned me. I only found this out because I called our doctor for a short-term prep (the guy at Express said to do this) because I will be receiving it in 5-7 days. Guess what? The nurse said it’s not being mailed due to $ and I was on the phone only 3 days prior and was told NO payment due and it was all being shipped. Never again.

In Jan. 2016 Express Scripts without any written notice to me started to enforce a new rule. Only 1 provider could write rxs for narcotics. I see 2 different providers at the pain clinic and it just so happen in Jan. 2016 that the CRNP wrote the rx. The CRPN was then my 1 and only provider. The next time I needed a refill the actual MD wrote the order and Express Scripts refused it. For 11 months I would make multiple calls and not be given any information as to the reason he was denied.
Finally in Nov 2016 after my visit with the MD and the rx was sent electronically I called the pharmacy to see if it was ready because of all the trouble I have been experiencing. The rx from the MD was declined. I immediately went back into the office and spoke to the nurse. She took their number and found out about the 1 only provider and was told that I needed to call for instructions. I called and was told to handwrite a letter instructing that the MD be my 1 and only provider and was given a specific mail stop. I did as instructed. I didn't hear anything and was then emailing Express Scripts to see if the provider was changed. Of course you get multiple people emailing with ridiculous hoops to jump through when finally on Jan. 11, 2017 I received a call that the change has been made. The next time I requested the refill I told them that the MD had to write it.
A week later I called to see if the order was ready and was instructed that it was once again declined. I called the doctor's office and explained the situation and once again the CRNP had to write the order and it was approved. I then followed up with writing a 2nd letter to Express Scripts requesting the change and as of today 03/22/17 I have not heard anything. Keep in mind I sent both requested registered so I have proof of delivery. When we had Medco I never had any issues. Express Scripts needs to be put into their place. They are messing with people's quality of life and are causing severe discomfort and confusion. Worse program EVER.

This place is haphazardly handling prescription medications. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE OF CUTTING CORNERS AND USING A MAIL ORDER PHARMACY. They send out wrong medication to wrong addresses and charge the consumer the highest price on the market. First, we had medication sent to an address that was over 5 years since living there. Secondly, when requested to mail them the paper prescription, they claim they never received it. Next, they mail a prescription capsule ($140/90 day supply) that was supposed to be capsules ($14/90 supply) and refuse to return the $140 and take back the medication that was incorrectly filled. We spoke with the doctors office as well as the pharmacist at Express Scripts (** pharmacist license per the pharmacist at Express Scripts) and they indicated the doctors office just arbitrarily called in the prescription on 3/17/17 from a visit on 1/23/17. This outfit is killing people and stealing money.
