I used to be able to get great bags of junk jewelry, but now, all the jewelry goes to e-commerce so they can go through it, take out all the good stuff, put it online and send the rest of the junk and I mean junk back to the stores. We are the communities who have donated our items to you and the communities that have kept you in business. The last bag of jewelry I purchased was $59.95 and what I got should have truly been thrown in the trash. I got perhaps $3.00's worth. I will no longer be shopping at the Goodwill nor will I be donating to the Goodwill anymore. Very disappointed in you.

I have recently been doing some shopping on the Goodwill Auction site and did some research. With my job that is what I do and can dig into things really deep. What I figured out with things is that Goodwill Auctions have the same people who bid things up to get a higher sale. I found this out multiple ways and it pisses me off that they are doing this to make higher profits. They should not be allowed to do this and if they want to set a reserve price then start the price higher than it currently is at! I shouldn't have to pay more for something used from Goodwill Auction than if I were to get it Brand New on Amazon. The same people can't be always be buying all the same items. I know that they want to make money but they are doing it all wrong, Goodwill was set up to help people and they aren't doing that on their site.
Second the prices that they charge are crazy high! I sell on Amazon and Ebay and I know what it can cost to ship something. They triple if not more the cost of shipping. Another thing is why do I pay for shipping on something that weighs 5lbs and be charged for 25lbs!!! That is extremely excessive! And it should not be allowed at all. They need to have their shipping regulated and stop ripping people off!!! And stop charging way, way, way too much extra, and it's not even next day for those extreme prices.

I visit this local Goodwill normally on a daily basis because I am retired and really loved visiting to see what I can find. Lately the management team and employees have question my purchases. I was accused of changing a price on a Honeywell fan that was donated from Target. A manager approached the cash register and said, "Hold on a minute before you leave I need to see how much you paid for that fan". I showed him the fan and the receipt which I had paid $24.99. He stated, "I'm so sorry, an older woman was mad because she wanted it", and I had already put it in my buggy. That didn't really bother me that much. What did bother me was each time I would visit there would be Mexican children running throughout the store unsupervised.
I have approached the management team and employees Time After Time After Time. I have been told there is nothing they can do. It is a safety hazard not just for the children but the customers also. I have complained at least 10 times. So now when I come in the Mexican Associates will ask me to buy things for them, will question me when I come every day, who am I buying things for, and will question prices on the products. I have not seen this done to anyone else. I have started videoing things going on in this location. Money is switching hands and going to the employees who are not ringing up all the sales. I call this theft. I have seen customers come in and a buggy full of merchandise brought to them that has been put back and saved.
Again today in Mexican employee who checked me out questions everything I had purchased. Stating she wanted to call the manager to check every single price. Yes I did get angry. She walked off and begin to mumble in Spanish with another Spanish girl. I have actually seen the Hispanic women come in there and hide things in their baby strollers, purchase a suitcase and loaded with clothing, put shoes on and leave old shoes, but they all turn their heads. I spend an average of $200 a week which is paying their salaries. Yes I am pissed off. I feel I am being discriminated against not just because of my color but because of my disability.

Goodwill is no longer the company it was. They have become greedy and no longer care about folks who are on fixed budgets. Prices have gone up, up, up. Everything is donated. Profits were up 25% for Goodwill Industries and yet they still pay their workers minimum wage. Who is pocketing all this money? Donate your goods to a true thrift store not a billion dollar company.

For a business that gets all their products for free they are awfully expensive. I pitched a pair of jogging pants. They charged me $7.75 and $6.75 for a shirt. I can get these items for cheaper at Giant Tigers or Walmart. They had a set of dishes for $500.00. No joke. I'm serious. Just incredible how expensive they are.

I am a former employee of Cheyenne WY Goodwill. This store is a joke!!! No proper management whatsoever. They show favoritism and have no loyalty whatsoever to employees who have been there for years. The managers have severe communication issues (unless you're a man) then they seem to have all kinds communication skills. The head of Goodwill regional manager for Wyoming is screwing the truck driver. This is just one example of how poorly this store is ran. They go over to the bar across the way to have "lunch". While the employees are working in a warehouse and yard in over 110 degree weather. Employees are basically forced to give rides to Kay the manager because she has no vehicle and if you're willing to do this you will be treated "VERY WELL".
Half of the donations get thrown in the dumpster as soon as the donator leaves the lot. The prices are ridiculous... and if you don't price HIGH you will reprimanded and more than likely taken off "wares". Goodwill Cheyenne is a revolving door. They will go through 5 employees a month on average. Basically if you can Kiss AZZ you will go places. You will get stabbed in the back by management... Things said in confidence will be spread throughout the company by day's end. The head managers will ignore you not as so much as a hello or nice job and all this for 8.50 an hour if you're lucky!!!
Something is seriously wrong with this store. You will automatically be considered a thief and they have over 16 cameras watching the employees. Meanwhile they are getting robbed blind in the store itself. There was at one time good management but they have all quit or moved on. These employees (not management) bust their azz and are NOT APPRECIATED. And you're told if you "ever speak badly or write anything negative that the company's lawyers will be all over you". Something needs to be done about this store and how they treat their employees.

Other than allegedly hiring disabled people to work in their stores, what exactly does Goodwill do with all that money other than pay management exorbitant salaries when they're supposed to be working for a charity/nonprofit. You know the reason why they hire disabled people? Because they can pay them less than minimum wage. It's true. Look it up. I believe 60 Minutes did an expose on this issue. Also when you're fixed costs for items is zero and almost every dollar coming in is pure profit, you can run your business just like a... say with me now... a government agency! there are no standards to be met or goals to be achieved.
But I would like to give a shout out to the Goodwill store on la tijera boulevard in Los Angeles California. An excellent store with an excellent staff. Use them like they use use... Go in and buy your five dollar pair shorts or whatever you can get a good deal on and go home. You want good prices. There are a million other websites like close five where people have low prices. Or you can go look through all the artwork at Goodwill and today. I was able to pull out about $500 worth of art for a grand total of eight dollars paid not a bad day at work.

Very sorry to report that ShopGoodwill.com is a scam. I bid on a coat - OVER bid by quite a considerable amount to be sure not to lose the auction - watched the auction close with my bid as the winning bid... waited on an invoice, but instead received notice that I had been out bid, BY A DOLLAR, when the ending bid was $75 lower. In my opinion, the store auctioning the item decided they wanted more for it, and just overbid me. I have read that people shill auctions for this site, and I have experienced it firsthand. I tried to contact them but received no response. I will not be wasting my time on this nonsense any more.

Goodwill in Carolina Forest Myrtle Beach is poorly managed. They are overcharging people on items. Their prices is almost as Ross. They have no return policy. It need to be against the law. People have a right to return the item for it was a gift to someone and they don't like it or zipper not working etc... The clothes has holes and stain on them and still sell them. I think that's wrong. If you don't watch they can overnight charge you also.

I have several times come across wallets and furs of endangered elephant hide wallets and boots. And once in a store I came across a seal fur capelet. I am not some wild-eyed ecotourism, but I definitely think selling items made from endangered species is wrong. I am all for helping people, but there needs to be some thought about the big picture. I have also purchased items that are labeled as designer and when I received them they secondly were not... I no longer bid on items that have iffy pictures and a disclaimer that states "we aren't experts", but... I have noticed a big increase in a starting price for items that are way over what I would bid... Site has become nearly a waste of time sadly.

I am a frequent bidder on Shopgoodwill online. I review and quite often purchase Gucci, Ferragamo men shoes. I have become increasingly suspicious of a buyer initials J***e. I have noticed a pattern of bidding by "je" that could only be explained as someone reselling on another site by the various sizes of shoes they bid on. Look for yourselves. It also appears "je" is always an early bidder and strategically drives up the price. I readily admit this could be a coincidence; however, a clear apparent pattern exists. Buyer beware!!!

After bidding at auction sites online I have come to the conclusion that none are actually auctions. They all have shill bidders working for them. With the items I tried to bid on I knew no shopkeep would buy that item sight unseen for that much money, but the same letters kept coming up. I know that this is not auctionable but selling any personal item is. A lot of what Goodwill gets is from the process of house clearing after a death. These stores are selling open containers of makeup, facial creams, perfumes, and other items that can actually transfer disease. I saw a set of Ben Wa balls on there recently. I wonder where they might have been from? I have seen massagers without packaging, and open box epilators. All of these items can expire, or carry virus that can make you expire. I am sure there are laws against this in some states.

We have donated tons of stuff to Goodwill for decades. We also shop at Goodwill stores, often weekly. We always figure they will do some good with the cash they take in. A few years back we started buying items off of their online auction. We purchased literally thousands of items, over the course of a few years, never a problem. Many times the items weren't as good as they had been described, but we still took them. Fast forward a few years. There was a period where we had some very real health problems - cancer, heart attack, and a hip replacement in short order, and we bid on a few items that we didn't pay for, as in just a few, less than 5. Goodwill froze the account, and we then contacted them a few times without a response. It seemed a dead end.
So, we attempted to open another account with a different email, but using all the same information. Wasn't an attempt to deceive, and didn't really think it against the rules and regulations, or anything like that. We just wanted to continue buying items. The two attempts at new accounts were also frozen. Again we contacted Goodwill, again no response. So perhaps a year has passed, and today I attempted to access our account. Nope, still frozen. We contacted customer service, and this time we received a response, but surprisingly right away. Here is part of that response.
"Duplicate accounts and/or accounts with numerous unpaid Past Due items violate the terms of the shopgoodwill.com bidder's agreement (http://www.shopgoodwill.com/policies/bidding_agreement.asp) and Rules for Bidders (http://www.shopgoodwill.com/help/rules_for_bidders.asp). Your account was disabled because it contains duplicate information to previous accounts registered on shopgoodwill.com that have been disabled due to non-payment of multiple items. Based on this account history and in keeping with our policies, we are sorry but we cannot reinstate your bidding privileges and your account will remain disabled for bidding. Please do not register another account as your information has been flagged for duplicate accounts."
Sorry, but it just seems like bad business on their part. If you have a customer that donated thousands of items to you over the course of many years, and a customer that has purchased maybe a thousand or more items over the course of years from your online auction (that you have a record of), why would you be so quick to freeze them from purchases? No one gets anything for free. All items picked up or shipped from Goodwill's auction must be prepaid. All the items Goodwill is selling are donated. So someone didn't pay for a handful of items one time out of a hundred. All that happened was they had to relist a few items that were donated to them. For an organization that relies on the goodwill of others to donate to them, they certainly don't show much appreciation or "Good-Will" toward their faithful donators and customers.

I called Goodwill in Tallahassee, Florida to come pick up a couch and an entertainment center that is in fairly good condition to donate. They told me I had to wait a week and a half to get on the pick up list, so I did wait. Then they came and stopped in the middle of the highway in front of my house and drove off. No explanation to why. I called to ask why they didn't pick up the furniture, they said it was all taped up with black tape and wasn't sell able. This was a false statement.
There was no black tape anywhere on any of it. The furniture is in decent shape. No rips or scratches and the couch is leather. No stains. They couldn't see the furniture from the middle of the highway. The lazy drivers just flat out lied about why they didn't pick it up. I will never donate or shop there again, they do not care about people like they claim. Someone could use this furniture. GOODWILL SUCKS!!!

I got a Job working at Goodwill. They were supposed to pay my insurance. Goodwill never paid for my insurance even though they were supposed to be paying. I found out from United Healthcare they did not have me on file, which they should have had my medical record for seven years. Goodwill not only cheated me out of my healthcare, they have not sent me my 401K. It has been more than the two week time frame of when I faxed them and they said would be deposited in my account. Don't shop at Goodwill. They do not help the disabled. They help themselves by filling their pockets with supposedly insurance. They don't care about you. Now I am meeting with a lawyer tomorrow.
I have quit my job, so I don't have a business relationship with this company, or any personal relationship. I am just really, really ticked, because I shouldn't have to be yelling at Goodwill constantly. Now it is time for a lawyer. Never mess with a union president’s daughter. We keep records, and we enjoy suing big companies when they have done the little workers wrong.

I shop extensively on the website and have bought MANY items from multiple stores. The store, Licking/Knox Goodwill Industries, has repeatedly stated shipping for items in excess of the actual shipping. EXAMPLE: I wanted to buy a comforter set and checked the shipping it was extremely high. I looked at another in the postings (same size, same weight **checked the weights on Amazon** and same amount of items) the shipping was half as much. When I asked about the difference they said they were following a UPS chart.
How can the chart give two prices for the same size and weight? Since then I tried to buy another item and they have blocked me from buying from their store. I sent an email explaining I had a complaint and a manager called, asked what the problem was and I explained. He asked what could be done and I stated reinstate my buying rights and he said NO. Never have I been a no pay and always paid within 2 days. Anyone interested in a class action suit contact me. They are making money on shipping.

SHIPPING & HANDLING are WAY too MUCH! As a bargain hunter, for the most we are already GAMBLING that the merchandise we are buying is OK. For the most part of it, as we all know, GOODWILL if they audit their expenses in their income statement, it is another supposedly "Non-Profit", that receives free merchandise, hire people and pay them peanuts or nothing. A lot less expenses compared to a regular business. So for them to charge too much for shipping and handling is basically baloney!! However, for the bargain hunters, a few of the goodwill location charge decent to just right. And you must know what you are buying. Some people bid WAY TOO EARLY and go nuts and at times Ebay is better. Ebay also, you must know the right market value. Some sellers are really scam artist. Well buyer beware, and must know what you are buying. At times WALMART is cheaper!!!

Goodwill is not allowing the public to access their publicly DONATED books and inventory. Workers in the back freely admit all books and records go straight to Amazon/3rd party dealers. Why should they get tax exemptions and grants, when they obviously are in it for $$$?? They put genuinely good local thrift sites out of business. They HURT the community more than they help. The only people they seem to "help" is themselves. Their prices are skyrocketing, it's RIDICULOUS.

Won an auction (fashion jewelry) through Goodwill Southern Piedmont of North Carolina. Of course right at ending time someone bids against me (shill bid I believe) however I was still lucky enough (ha) to win the auction. What started out at $21.99 went to $32. After shipping (way overcharged of $9.95 & a handling fee of $2.25) total, I paid roughly $44. Ironically I live in the same area where this was shipped from and should have cost a lot less to ship. What I received was pure junk. Broken bracelets, unstrung beads, a total bag worth of crap. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ON THESE AUCTIONS. What is being placed in these bags are clearly being looked over making sure there is absolutely nothing of value.
Learned my lesson and I will never again place a bid on ANY of GW auctions. Also, note, lately GW stores have been overpricing many of their donations, placing counterfeit handbags (& other items) in their cases for an absorbent amount of money. This rounding up crap is getting ridiculous. The employees, including managers, are chummy with certain customers giving them dibs on items when they come out. One customer literally is paying the help to bring out shoes when he arrives. You can call CS until you're blue in the face and still GW corporate does absolutely nothing. Consumer Affairs / media should really investigate GW.

I too have shopped in store and online at ShopGoodwill.com. ONLINE: Over the years shopping online, I have gotten some nice and not so nice items. Whoever describes the item either doesn't have a wide range of vocabulary or does not describes correctly. There have been several times I had to call directly to the store because no one responded to me when I sent an email, asking for missing information that was important to a customer. I have had to ask for returns (2), but was told they would reverse the money back into my account. Was told to just keep (which why would I) or throw away (which I do) an item. Reason one item was a pair of men's pants which was new alright but from the 50's, and the other item was torn.
SHIPPING: I too have question postage. They seem to use way too big of boxes for shipping. IN STORE: I am learning that I can order GOOD NICE clothing online through discount stores such as Bealls, Burlington, and small household items. If spending over a certain amount, I get free shipping. They should stop selling items as singles. If items are a PAIR, then sell them together.

I waited three days for a reply and never got one. I called the store and someone did call me back. The woman said to upload the pictures that show it is not authentic (the tag has another name on the back of it) and she would contact me the next day. She did not.
I emailed asking for some kind of resolution and their customer service closed the ticket without any communication as to why. I have tried several customer service numbers without any resolution. Their return policy states they will refund buyers if something is misrepresented and a request must be made within 5 days of receipt. I received 5-20-16 and emailed them on the same day. $271.56 for jewelry that was misrepresented and customer service that ignores its customers.

Used dirty cat litter box $15.99, get it at Meijer $15.9. Broken sewing machine without cords and attachments $49.99, another thrift store offer $29.99. Green glass bowl $2.99, at Home Goods $2.99. I have had so many poor experiences at different Goodwill stores lately. I'm considering never going back! I have already started donating my items to other organizations. Most recently I had a bad experience in Clarksville, TN. I pointed out that a mini refrigerator was improperly marked and was listed at nearly retail price 89.99. The assistant manager gave the clerk permission to mark down, but didn't change the label. And when I asked to talk to the manager about the price because it needed repairs the assistant manager came out. She was rude and raised her voice at me INSTANTLY. I was entirely nice and was just asking questions. She refused to let me talk to the manager until I asked four additional times. Then he came out and asked how he could help but didn't even let me get a full sentence out before he cut me off!! He told me they would sell it for that price. Bad parts and all to see if they could.
He wouldn't listen to me! He told me they would mark it down again on the next rotation. Customers were staring. It was terrible. I called headquarters in Nashville and even left my contact information with them for follow up. They said someone would call me, but they didn't. The prices on items in all of the Tennessee stores has gone up so much that it's unbelievable. Near retail prices for used sometimes partially broken items is absurd. The Shop Goodwill online site is completely misleading because they pretend like the prices are low. When you win an item they charge you an OUTRAGEOUS amount to ship it - UPSP has flat rate shipping... So the fact that they are charging so much on top should be a crime. I won a Barbie online and it was $8. By the time they added shipping it was $24!!! I'm not donating anything else to them for them to just try to sell it for five times what it's worth. I'm furious with the Goodwill.

This store overprices ALL their used/donated merchandise. On several occasions, I've noticed the original price tag on the merchandise and the Goodwill's price tag. The Goodwill's price is always higher than actual cost. What really upset me was an incident where my 13-yr. old son wanted to purchase a used bicycle being sold for $39.99 which I thought was an outrageous price to begin with since the paint was chipped, the breaks did not work, and the seat was torn, but he really needed it to get to school but I was short $2.00.
I figured "hey, it's Goodwill, everything they receive is DONATED, $2.00 shouldn't be a big deal." Boy was I wrong. They refused to sell it for less than the marked price and when I asked if they would hold it for 30 min. allowing me time to go home and return with the $2.00, they refused. The person at the register did ask the manager and the manager had this condescending attitude when she refused. A woman in line heard what was going on and gave my son the $2.00. The manager had the audacity to say "That's what our store is all about, donating to the needy."
She tried to take credit for what this nice woman did, and tried to embarrass us in the process. I didn't want my son to see me upset so I refrained from responding and thanked the woman, offering to pay her back if she cared to follow me home. That said, I will never go to that place again. I don't believe the owners and staff know the meaning of "GOODWILL." It's just a store name to them now. What a shame.

If I have to pay prices like seven to fifteen dollars for one pair of pants, the Goodwills are ripping people off with their so-called retail prices. Has anyone noticed the sometimes HUGE discrepancy between the "actual" weight of items on Goodwill's site, and the "shipping" weight, which is what they use to determine shipping costs? It's outrageous - sometimes things that weigh as little as 2lbs will be charged at 25 or 30 lbs, which drives the cost up so far that the tag price is nothing compared to what it costs to get it to you. It's obviously pretty crappy and unethical for them to do this, hoping that someone won't pay attention to how overpriced the shipping is, and then getting stuck with the fee after winning the items. But, is it possibly illegal as well?
I first noticed the astronomical difference while checking out some paintings, and while I can somewhat understand that packing something like, say, a large glass-framed print might warrant a special handling cost, most of the stuff that they're doing this with is nothing that needs any protection past the box. It's not as if the shipping is paid directly to the carrier, either. It's paid with the ticket and goes straight into the pocket of Goodwill, along with any other profit, and I'm sure that they don't pay normal retail for their shipping accounts, either.
And forget about trying to combine for economical reasons - you can win 5 auctions with one of the individual Goodwill stores, and they will refuse to combine shipping... as if sticking the stuff in the same box is just unthinkable and you ought to pay $20 for each pair of pants or whatever that you purchase from them, atop the ticket price. This is not the case with every one of the stores that participate in Goodwill online, but it unfortunately seems to be the case with far too many.
Someone ought to compile a "list of shame" with proof of the stores that are guilty of this. I'm presently trying to keep track of it myself, so that I don't keep getting stuck with such massive handling fees that it would literally be cheaper to purchase the items brand-new from a local store or from another online retailer with free or just normal shipping charges.
It's really nice that some of the participating stores will offer one cent shipping bargains, as well as reasonable fees, so please don't think that this is the case with all of the merchants on Goodwill's site. I've had great experiences and fantastic customer service with some of the stores, but as well, I'm still waiting for the very first item that I purchased on there - a pair of boots that cost $20, nearly $15 to ship, and bought on the 5th of this month. It's the 16th now and who knows when they will arrive... You'd think that some expedited service would come with that price. Anyways, I hope that someone will look into the legality of their practices. It's really unfair and sneaky that they try to pad their pockets by tacking on these ungodly high shipping fees, all for stuff that people donate out of kindness to their supposed "cause".

I have been going to the same Goodwill in S. Florida for over a year. I have watched the quality of merchandise go down and the prices go up. Yesterday was my tipping point as I saw an employee take a large box of assorted jewelry to a closed door office and not come out...then she did the same thing with a large plastic bag filled with jewelry. I went to the manager and told him what I saw. He seemed not to be concerned. I have called the local police and plan to take this further by contacting the corporate office.

Goodwill used to be a store which I enjoyed shopping at, as a mother to 3 I try to save as much money as possible. The deals used to be what I would expect from a non-profit organization but in the recent months Goodwill has turned into a money grubbing store that is definitely making a profit off of items that are donated to them. When I mentioned the major increase in prices at our local store last night the answer I got was appalling and degrading "Our new manager is pricing up to bring in a new class of customers". Used shoes priced at $27 because one person decides she doesn't like the "class" of people who shop in her store. Goodwill used be about giving back to the community and creating jobs, just I see they taking in all this money and employees losing their jobs. I now refuse to step foot in a Goodwill store and will no longer donate. I will find a real non-profit to donate to.

Shopgoodwill.com internet auction site has many Goodwill stores participating on the internet auction around the country. There does not seem to be any consistency from one location to another in how they do business. Each site is left up to their own judgement as to the method of testing or not testing electronic items, describing, picturing, packing, shipping carriers, etc. For example an audio video receiver: one facility may not even plug a receiver in to see if it may power up or not. Another facility may plug it in and if it powers up they are done and off to the internet auction it goes.
Personally I have purchased four high end receivers (my price over $300 each plus shipping) from shopgoodwill.com and only one ever worked. My percentage is about 75% failure when it comes to purchasing electronic items on the internet auction site. It would seem there should be some minimal consistent testing procedure for high dollar electronic items sold on the shopgoodwll.com site. I am sure there are thousands of disgruntled customers around the country who have purchased electronic merchandise only to find out their purchase was merely a very expensive non-usable item worthy of the dump.
I wonder how many folks take their recently received non-working item they purchased from shopgoodwill.com and take it to their neighborhood Goodwill store as a donation just to start the process over with the non-working electronic item. No one is making out other than Goodwill for the above described scenario. The packaging and shipping procedures varies greatly. Some stores do in house packing. Others send the items out to UPS stores, FedEx, mom/pop shippers etc.
The real problem lies in stores that chose to package their own items for shipping. Some stores do well and bubble wrap fragile items. Others simply throw the item in a box with no packing material at all. Some stores allow a third party to pick up an item for shipping such as a UPS store. Others will not allow anyone other than the buyer to pick up the item even if you are out of state from the Goodwill store from which you purchased the item from on the shopgoodwill.com site.
It seems shopgoodwill.com is not accountable to any governing body or law enforcement agency. Otherwise how does Goodwill get away with selling damaged or non-working electronic just because they state the items are not tested or sold as is. I suppose there are thousands of us gullible shoppers out there that keep Goodwill in business.

I used to love coming to the Goodwill Store because they were cheap and reasonable and they are the exact opposite now with their overpriced items that were given to them for free. What a rip-off. Will not shop here anymore. It's a shame they have gotten so greedy. This needs to stop. Something has to be done about this misuse and abuse of corporate power. Either you're a second hand store or you're a retail store. Can't be both. This is no longer a thrift store. This store is a rip-off now and that's a shame for all of the poor families that used to be able to come here for affordable clothing. Now they can no longer afford to come here. Truly unbelievable. They will see a big decrease in their business and maybe they'll go back to their old ways as a thrift store.

The online Goodwill website offers a lot of bargains over a wide spectrum of products. Their biggest drawback is the arbitrary way they charge for shipping. Some Goodwill stores charge shipping within reason and others are so far out and expensive the bargain aspect of it is erased. What they need to do is find the cheapest and most effective shipper and use that process for ALL Goodwill stores. An example... I just won an auction for 3 items. While I got a good deal on the items (total weight 4 lbs in West Virginia and I live in California), the shipping was 18 bucks and it will take 2 weeks to get it. That is totally unacceptable. I wrote to them, and as usual, they just give the stock answer... blah, blah, and blah. We are sorry. Also, now on top of the outrageous shipping costs, they also charge a handling fee. It's really too bad. This could be a win-win for everyone. They get all their auction items for nothing.

I used to love Goodwill because I was able to find good bargains there including clothing and unique items. Suddenly Goodwill, who has all of their items donated for FREE, has raised their prices astronomically and joined in on the online auction biz without the safeguards and protections for their customers that eBay has. I have bid on a few items and believe as another person posted here that they engage in shill bidding to drive the prices higher. Suspicious activity has gone on during the online bidding process. Bidders coming out of nowhere to jack the price way up. Plus, there is no guarantee of quality, no consumer protections and in most cases, no refunds like eBay has.
The shipping prices are also extraordinarily high. Goodwill is a company that has gotten very greedy, taking free items they receive that used to be in stores and putting them online to hike prices, jacking up in-store prices to higher than you would pay for it new at retail stores in many cases, while still paying their employees squat and enriching their executives with 6 figure salaries. As a 501-3c corporation that pays no taxes, they need to be held to a much stronger scrutiny as to business practices.

I been a customer of Goodwill since I was 5 years old (I'm 20 now.) And it's been amazing until now. I constantly donated to the one in my town. After a few years, the prices went up very high. They only have a half off of the particular color for the weekday which they will literally take things with the color of the tag for that week off the racks only leaving a few pieces around. (For moral sake I guess.) The workers are usually jail birds that need to finish the rest of their time somehow or older women who been there for years. They're constantly stealing for themselves and their friends and family members or ring up their items extremely low. (You pay attention to these things after a while.) I have expressed my feelings to the managers before but guess what? They don't care because they doing the same thing! Everyone scratches another one's back in this place.
I was recently accused of stealing with my mom and they claim they got my tag number and the cops will be out soon. Everyone knows the cops are corrupted (most not all!) They don't have cameras and I actually paid for some items that day and know the exact workers who made those accusations. I confirmed by looking at the site that I was the high bidder. The auction was to end April 16, 2016 (today) at 4:14PM central time. I checked the time of closing. It said 8 minutes and 20 seconds. I kept the site open and watched the clock. It did not move staying at 8 minutes 20 seconds. I was still the high bidder. The clock showed 20 seconds and still the clock did not move. I then looked at the name of the high bidder and it was not me. There were then 21 bidders.
It is impossible for anyone to have gone from $112.00 to $202.00 and not show all the bids in numerical order. I believe that the Goodwill online auction site uses shilling to drive the prices higher by holding the clock from moving and having someone inside bid a higher price. No one could bid that fast in the 20 seconds. It showed on the clock. I will not use their auction site again.

We are seniors who count on cooking ware, clothes etc. at our local Goodwill in Stuart Florida. We only go on Sr. day which is Wed, so I don't know what goes on the rest of the week. There is a woman "Teresa" and several guys, who are like wolves at the door at opening. She rushes in, talks to the lady with gold front teeth (manager??? I don't know) and a couple of other employees, then RUNS to an area on the racks and takes a handful of clothes that are separated from the rest. She also, as do the guys, gather around the jewelry dept. and the new stuff being brought out and the staff give her plastic boxes to go through of jewelry and she just grabs handfuls. When I've stood by and asked if I could see some of it, the staff says "No".
In the past 3 years, we've been watching and listening and kind of following her conversations with the staff and the clothes she grabs have all been designer brands, personally selected and stashed away for her. Where's the fairness in all of this? From what we've heard from others is that she gives "kick-backs" to the staff... it never changes. Sometimes they call her on the intercom to come to the desk and they hand her something which she immediately puts in her basket and sometimes, the phone there rings and THEY CALL HER NAME AND SAY SHE HAS A PHONE CALL. OUTRAGEOUS. It seems several of the managers have been in on this and I'd love to see the execs at G.W. send in their own "ringer" to see what the heck is going on. We donate as much as we can also and have changed our wills so that nothing is left to Goodwill as it was in the past.

I used to shop at the Goodwill here all the time, there a couple of them. Over the past year the prices at the Goodwills have skyrocketed now and shirts have gone up to $4.99. I can go to the sale rack at most of the stores at the mall and get T-shirts for $5 new. If something is named brand like Victoria Secret, they will up the price even if it's 10 years old, worn-out, stained or has holes. The most rude thing lately was Hanes Her Way T-shirts used for $5 you can get them at Wal-Mart probably for the same exact price.
The used prices at the Goodwill are actually offensive at this point. I will no longer donate my stuff there unless it's a bag of used old underwear. They can have fun sorting through that and high pricing old stained panties. They act as though they are a high-end consignment store when a lot of their stuff is very worn out. At our Goodwill currently it's $4.29 for used pajama pants and $4.29 for the top so if you want to set that like $8.50. It's ridiculous. People should boycott the Goodwill.

Several Goodwill locations have opened up in Indiana called Vintage Vogue and several other stores have boutique departments or save their best merchandise for the online auctions. Specialty locations and the online eBay auctions like this take the thrill out of treasure hunting at the regular Goodwill or thrift stores and finding that diamond in the rough and charge considerably more $$. But the plan is to increase revenue on used donations with these boutique Vintage Vogue locations, boutique departments where merchandise is locked in glass display cases and the online Goodwill auctions. Merchandise is picked from inventory and premium priced according to a designated list of labels or perceived retail value.
Saw a "name brand" purse with signs of wear at Vintage Vogue in Bloomington Indiana for $48.99 and have noticed "name brand" purses on the online auction site that are clearly fakes with shill bidding and ridiculous handling fees (regardless of store pickup) and outrageous shipping fees. An online auction purse at $7.99 had a $4.00 handling fee and charged $12.00 shipping for an item that was poorly photographed and described. The local Goodwill hired a high school age part time worker to do their auction copy and upload the pictures. Regular Goodwill or a consignment store would be maximum $25 or less for the same purse and you could see it and there wouldn't be an inflated shipping or handling fee. This was not a vintage or rare collectible. And at a consignment store, the previous owner would get money for selling not donating it.
If money $$$ is not a consideration, Vintage Vogue and the Goodwill boutique departments are a fun place to look but if you are on a budget, there are no bargains here. Locations are smaller than the usual Goodwill stores with an attempt to replicate a boutique or small store look and feel. Saw leather jackets, UGG boots, Coach tennis shoes, small retro household items etc. as a sample of the merchandise offered. Prices comparable to a consignment store (where the merchandise may be in better condition with more knowledgeable staff) but this is not your regular thrift store nor is it intended to be. It is catering to younger people with more disposable income or collectors.
It used to cater to shoppers on a budget, then the pickers who watched too many TV shows about finding the Declaration of Independence for $.99 and selling it to a collector for millions. A lot of the merchandise found after it is sorted for the online auctions, the boutique departments, sold to the manager or employees is yard sale leftovers. Some Goodwill's call the antique dealers first when something nice comes in and it never makes it to the sales floor for the general public. The management runs the organizations with a top down style - the clerks who do the work make minimum wage and most are not very friendly because of the way the establishment is operated. Some of the managers are driving company paid vehicles. The employees have very little control over their work environment. The pricing is completely arbitrary and subjective done by a list of "code" names for brands that should be marked higher.
I have observed used Coach purses market $24.99 while a Brighton purse is marked $4.99 because it wasn't recognized on the code list of desirable labels. There are obvious fakes marked with inflated prices and when you bring that to the attention of the clerks, they just shrug. Some locations have started first Saturday of the month sales - it might be more customer volume friendly to have more reasonable prices every day. Other locations have color tag sales but pick the best stock off the floor before discounting it.
As most of the other reviewers have stated, Goodwill is no longer a non-profit entity, it is big business and has learned all the savvy marketing tricks to enter the world on online commerce and compete with the world of "used" merchandise with a perceived value. The best thing to do would be use Caveat Emptor - let the buyer beware. There are few bargains available at the Goodwill's any longer for the average customer. And let the donation customer beware - give your items to a different charity that supports your local community, donate items to a church rummage sales or become involved in an online trading recycling free site.

Anyway since they go through Store Managers like water there the store is constantly under duress, the shelves are always a mess, the inventory is basically just thrown all over the place. The store is a mess pretty much all of the time. Anyhow a couple of days ago I was in the checkout lane and the cashier was telling every customer and handing out small flyers about their AS IS store in Charlotte Mich. which is a 28 mile drive from Mason.
So when I was getting ready to check out the customer ahead of me an elderly woman was asking how far away was this store. I spoke up and told her it was roughly 28 miles or a half hour drive away and personally I would save your fuel and time. I proceeded to tell her it was a dumping ground for all the Goodwill stores in the area to send their distressed and basically unsalable items.
Immediately the clerk raised her voice and said I could not say that to their customers? I responded that I can tell anybody I wish to about that store. I had been there and it is nothing short of a really really bad garage sale with broken and just bad merchandise. I told the clerk I was just looking out for the elderly woman. The clerk then proceeded to call her store Mgr. On the store phone the Mgr. asked what the problem was and the clerk proceeded to explain that I was telling customers that the AS IS store was a waste of time and don't bother.
I then was told by this young woman who is the store Mgr. of the month that I could not tell customers that. I then responded that I could and will continue to do so and last time I checked this was still America and was engaging in my freedom of speech. I then paid for my items and responded that I will not be coming back. It's off to Saint Vincent's and Volunteers of America. Goodwill just lost $3,000 + in sales today. Bottom Line the Goodwill Stores are nothing but a very poorly run organization.

The items that are of any greatness are often marked up higher than retail prices. (Who really wants to pay retail price for items in a thrift store?) The stores often have Chinese wholesale items stocked in their glass case. (I once saw about 50 cheap brand new Chinese tablets selling for $100 each in their glass case. Wholesale the same tablets sell for around $45 each, they were absolute garbage tier, the kind that likely stop working quickly.) Years ago, I would see all sorts of great items in the stores... When I got to the cashier I was told they had to be re-tagged, when the clerk came back she said the price was $4.99 per item. I needed the clothes, it was uniform pieces for my son. Upon paying I walked to the children's section to see if their price signs had changed and lo and behold, signs were missing from every single rack.
When I asked the cashier why the signs were gone on children's clothes she said they were moving racks around (but where were the signs?). I asked why they had marked the items as "boutique" and she said they had the right to price at whatever amount they deem necessary. I asked for the general manager's name and she wrote down Eferon **, I hope this is true. My point is that they get away with highway robbery, additionally, I see how they pull back racks of clothes with a certain color tag. Upon paying very close attention week after week, I realize that they pull clothes for the color tag that will be on sale a week prior, they only leave a few pieces out and the rest they pull out after the color of the week expires. Yes sir, they do this for certain.
Last but not least, we are a military family, we show our ID and get a 10% discount. If my mother is with me, since she is 70 years old, we could present both IDs and get 20% off. They now refuse to give both discounts. Who exactly are you helping Goodwill? Your WorkSource center staff is as rude as your Goodwill staff, I can't imagine wages are justified - incredible!!!

The below tale is rampant on the Goodwill Online stores which takes in tens of millions each year marking up items they obtain at ZERO cost from you and me. Listed products as good condition. Out of the 4 products, all four were broken. After many pics sent, I was told to return the items. I asked for a return shipping label. They stated they didn't have those which is a lie since all the other locations do. I had to pay for my own return shipping and this is by design.
I sent the items back and they had returned an email that I would be refunded in full to include the return shipping costs I incurred. They were quick to refund me the total minus the return shipping. The regional manager stated that per their policies, return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Even though I had their own email stating they would cover the return costs, the regional manager said no even though all four products were broken.
Goodwill hides behind their "non-profit" status which is bull. The CEO makes well over a million year and the managers are told to make as much money as possible or they are let go - they make 70K a year. ONLY DONATE TO SALVATION ARMY!! Stacey of Clinton, TN is correct. I thought I was just imagining it, so I searched for an item I didn't think would end in a bidding war but wouldn't mind having and kept tabs on it without using their "watch this item". After days with no bids I clicked on "watch". Still no bids. The opening bid was $5, so I bid $5...and just like that, I was outbid. Not by just the $1 either. I kept re-bidding until I was up to $18.33. And I won. And to make things more frustrating I opted to pick it up at their location so I didn't have to pay postage; however, I was still charged the $4 handling fee, thus my glass bowl "experiment" cost me almost $23. This past year (2015) I found better prices on brand new items at major retail stores than at GW. It is insulting and greedy to hike the prices up on items that are donated to GW. Therefore GW has ZERO overhead. The company GW has 2 employees on payroll per store. Therefore GW has very low labor costs. They have not increased charitable donations or the resources offered to the community (per Local Safehomes for Women and children and Workforce Jefferson county). STOP DONATING TO GOODWILL...

Their prices have gotten so high! They were not too bad about 3 years ago, but they have really gone up. Considering everything is donated, I resent paying the prices. Even if a garment is of very good quality and name, such as a coat, it should not cost $40. It has begun to feel like scalping and I rarely go anymore. Again, the fact that everything is donated, and the likelihood they don't pay their hardworking staff very well, I wonder how much of a non-profit it truly is. I am taking into account that it is for a good cause.

My aunt told me that the same thing has been happening with her on the site especially on supposedly "Authenticated" high dollar items such as Coach or Michael Kors. My husband has twenty seven years in The United States Army. My baby brother was killed by a drunk driver, he was hit on my birthday 19 June, and subsequently died on 25 November, which that year it fell on Thanksgiving Day! He used to take that day to go to the Homeless Veterans Shelters in St. Augustine and Jacksonville, Florida and not only feed whoever was hungry but he clothed and put shoes on their feet. When he passed my husband who has NINE COMBAT TOURS and FIVE BRONZE STARS and over ten years in the combat zone along with myself, we took up his cause and we now spend Thanksgiving Day doing as he did, feeding and clothing Homeless Veterans!!
Every city that we go to Goodwill denies any discounts or help in our cause. EVERY state gives us the same answer. NO!! We do NOT help the homeless veterans and NO you can NOT have a discount to help them. One lady in the Columbus, Georgia store on Veterans Parkway actually said "tell them to get a job and stop complaining about their issues." Really, without these men and women she could not weigh in at over two hundred pounds, eat freely whatever she feels like when they go hungry and sleep in a warm bed when they sleep outside in the cold or if they are lucky a shelter.
So if you want to name this store what it should be called... And do NOT forget that the higher administration was recently in past years caught embezzling millions of dollars from the funds that are created by people who believe they are doing "GoodWill"... Let's call it what it really is GREEDY STORES! I believe that if more people knew what "GoodWill" does with the money that they take in they would stop shopping there and go to the Salvation Army who actually gave us sixty percent off of whatever we needed for this Thanksgiving Day. Remember it is THANKS GIVING... NOT THANKS GETTING!! GoodWill should think about that as they pad their pockets.

This online bidding site takes in 10's of millions per year is sales from their auctions. On top of many shill bids documented, you have people that have NO business describing items you bid on. I have received so many broken items in the field I purchase in that were described as "in good working condition", only to arrive not usable. Here is the kicker. NO REFUNDS!!! Even if they give you a refund, they keep their shipping and " Handling" charge. It's criminal.
Shipping. They also makes huge amounts of money on shipping. They use the absolute cheapest way for them to ship, charge you a ridiculous amount, and keep the profits. I know shipping costs as I use ALL providers for my store. Example: What should have cost $11.67 from Ontario California, cost $19.55, on top of the $5.00 handling charge. Goodwill employees have got to be some of the rudest people in the marketplace. The organization claims to be training people for the job market. But I've never been treated so rudely at a place I was spending my hard earned money at, AND a place that I have on hundreds occasions donated items to. When the auction site is rude to it's buying customers they should take into consideration that those same customers are donors. I just don't think they get it. As a result of just downright snarky behavior via email and telephone conversations with, I have vowed to never donate another good item to them ever again. I will only donate junk and trashy stuff to keep them occupied.
I have read on numerous forums that they have fake bidders that run up the amounts on the auctions to try to get higher than retail prices. They charge handling charges on every single item and sky-high shipping charges all on items that were "given" to them, by the same people who buy from them! It is truly a scam. A huge scam.
I won't be purchasing another item from them and sure as hell won't donate anything on any value to them. The shipping charges to ship 3 pairs of jeans, $24.90. Each had a handling charge of 4.00. Do the math! They are horrible about responding to your emails and the expectation is that you respond quickly to them or they give you a negative mark on your account. Three negative marks, and you are banned. How are they teaching anyone about the working world, when they don't provide any real marketable skills? Being rude to customers spending their money, being rude and snarky to donors? Running up the amount with "fake inside bidders". A real shame of an organization.

In the stores they have sold dollar store items for $3-5, if it says crystal the price goes up to more than retail in many cases. The people in the backrooms who price must be doing drugs. I live in Florida and used to love shopping at Goodwill stores, even would visit them when I was on vacation or visiting friends in other cities. I never hesitated to buy items without trying them on or for family members because I knew that I could return. Well not any longer all of the Goodwills here in my town and surrounding, now have a NO RETURN policy on anything, you can't even get a store credit. I also have noticed the prices being raised over the past 5-7 years. All items are donated to Goodwill so any amount of money they make is profit. They now have a so called "Boutique" section that the prices are much higher than the other clothing.
A couple of weeks ago I found a hanging light that I really liked and it was marked "not tested". The light was marked 24.99 (which was a little on the height side). I asked a sales person if they could test and she said "No, it takes a special bulb". I asked if the price could be adjusted since I was not sure if it worked, I was told "No". I then asked if I could bring back if it did not work, I was again told "No, this isn't Home Depot". I knew I wasn't in Home Depot. Home Depot staff is much friendlier and would take returns. So I was going to have to pay $24.99 for a light, go to Home Depot or wherever the special light bulb was sold and buy that, then may find out that it didn’t work and they will not return!
Needless to say, I have not been back in a Goodwill nor do I intend to. I know a lot of the workers there are working off community hours and may not even get paid, but that is no reason to be rude to paying customers. I often wonder if the staff there get to pick things out that they want for themselves? Why would you not discount an item that you have no idea whether it works, rather than let it sit on a shelf or ask someone to buy with no guarantee? One of the stores here had a rolling suitcase that was marked 49.99 with one of the zippers broke. Come on Goodwill, you are making money left and right, think about those high prices, wasn't this store supposed to originally be for those less fortunate to be able to afford needed items.

I've been going to Goodwill for years almost 8 years. I go a lot, every single weekend and some days throughout the week. I go to Goodwill near me and over 30 mins away. I shop a lot. I know the prices more than the new staff. So today I went to a goodwill in St. Louis Missouri. First off I was with family members and someone in my family bought a shirt and we said we didn't like it to him and that it was ugly and the cashier at Goodwill stated "Oh I think you should buy it, it looks nice". They should not put there 2 cents into our conversation, we don't know you and we bought a lot of items and the last 2 items I put up there was marked $2.99 for shampoo and $1.00 for baby soap (Johnson brand) and she said the baby soap was marked wrong because it was a from Target and all the Target items end in 9.
Well she took it back to the manager and came back out and was like its $4.00. I asked to speak to the manager and she was like he won't change it "in a snotty voice" and I said I didn't ask him to change it but I want to ask him why is he pricing items for the same price the retail stores sell it for and what's funny is that the shampoo I bought was a Matrix brand and it was at Goodwill for $2.99 and it cost over $20 new.
So what's the deal Goodwill? Your staff is rude and they make up their own prices which is ridiculous! I was like well it's cheaper in the store and she argued with me and said not this brand and I said I know my prices I have a baby. It was at Walgreens (highest priced store) for $4.79, WOW YOUR SAVING $0.79! Yes, it's a joke! It's supposed to be 50% RETAIL prices since this is a Goodwill that's a real store not a full retail store. The customer service sucks and the staff was horrible. The manager was rude and disrespectful towards me so yes I got mad and kind of got loud and said, "Why would I pay the same price you are ripping people off, you are supposed to help us not rip us off or make us pay more!" I've bought stuff many times over the years. I've donated a lot of nice items there and they treat you horrible.
I think they should REALLY LOOK INTO WHO THEY HIRE. I know many of the people that work at many of the different Goodwill who smoke weed and do other drugs. "You get to know them when you go all the time", who steal from their own store, who change prices and many more things there. Not allowed to do but still do it. As a regular shopper at this Goodwill it seems really odd that they have things such as a 10 year old Tumi leather briefcase for $199.00 or worn out men's shoes for $69.00 with soles so soft you would need to have them resoled. There are well-used handbags ranging from $79.00 all the way up. I though Goodwill was a place for people who couldn't afford to pay retail.
I thought Goodwill is a place where everyone could come and shop regardless of their financial class. If I wanted to pay retail I would go to a department store. Well here's is a bit of interesting information. Now the Goodwill at the Pavilions in Scottsdale has taken on the same high-end department store image. Fendi handbags in their case for as much as $299.00 that are FAKE! Coach bags for $169.00. Cole Haan bags for $149.00 all used, all with issues. The prices at the store at the Pavilions are so high they have signs posted that say they do not negotiate prices.
Now I find out that the Production Managers at each one of the two stores I'm complaining about are related! They are brother-in-laws. So, Goodwill has two gentlemen who are somewhat related in a competition to see who can out price the other. Well, if you are a Goodwill store who claims to help the community why do you have to post a sign that says prices aren't negotiable. If you have to post a sign that says prices aren't negotiable then maybe your prices are too high. Goodwill shoppers will get the hint eventually and stop shopping your stores especially if it's the store on 14202 N. Scottsdale Road or if it's the store at the Pavilions.
Goodwill isn't a thrift store anymore it's slowing becoming a high-end boutique store (if it's in Scottsdale) zip codes shouldn't matter. The people who donated those item's probably never thought that they would be put out for sale only to a select group of people who would consider paying such high prices. If the people who donated these things to your stores had any idea that you were pricing their donated item's with these ridiculous prices, I think they would begin to think twice before choose to donate to a Goodwill in the future. SHAME ON YOU GOODWILL!

I been noticing that all of the larger products are very overpriced and seem that there is no pricing scale for the used items. I saw a plant stand marked 19.99 from Target and the used price on the Goodwill tag that was next to it was 34.99. Item was not new and it had scratches on it. I told the employees about the price and they said they had no control over prices. Also I bought a electric putting green mat. I was buying for work to help special clients with recovery and knew I could fix it. The ball return did not work, it was very dirty, the plastic frame needed repair and it had dead bugs on it. It was selling for $14.99 and online only $19.99. I think if you're going to sell at prime price, the item has to be clean and working.
The Health code is totally not followed at all the stores. Passing on years of germs and dirt is not good. They are then transferred to the next person. If you're helping people with jobs, give one them the job to clean and service products. No excuse. You're all about training, so train to sell quality, no dirty second hand diseased items. I buy the products and walk out with a second hand allergy because I am allergic to dust. I feel bad for the low wage employees I am trying to support. Thank you and get real.

I went to the goodwill near my house. I saw a ring that looked silver so I asked to see it. It was marked "Pearl ring,10 Kt white gold." I have a jewelers loop and looked at it to see that the so called "Pearls" were really plastic and peeling. I brought it to the attention of the sales girl and asked that she tell a manager because it is not real pearl and that is false advertisement. The second I looked away she put it back in the case. I said to her "I thought you were going to show the manager?" She said "Yes I will later." I replied, "then someone else will get the ring instead of me" and she went on to serve a different customer. Sure enough I went the next day and the ring was gone. It should be first come first served and it was not that way. In fact I felt ignored. Still it is false advertisement. The so called pearls were peeling and even the sales girl seen it. I was in Goodwill and noticed prices were getting outrageous. They had items from the dollar tree that sold new for $1 and some items were marked up to $5. I told the manager and she didn't seem to care. They are getting items for free. I understand trying to make a profit to "help" people but really it's not cool to charge 2-5xs the original selling price. Goodwill is getting greedy and soon no one will be shopping there due to crazy prices that are too high and more than retail price.

I shop a lot at the Goodwill store in Norfolk, NE. Recently the prices have skyrocketed. It is almost unaffordable to shop there. HALF OF THE ITEMS ARE BROKE AND CHIPPED BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT CAREFUL AND THEY THROW EVERYTHING INTO A BIG BASKET! What a shame! My biggest complaint is if I'm buying a product at Goodwill why are the staff using permanent marker on all their products? I can't regift or resell products! What a shame. I do not know if I want to continue shopping there because of this. People donate for a reason to help others and Goodwill in Norfolk is not showing their best!

I am totally disgusted with the price gouging of Goodwill's in North Central PA area. I have been an active customer for almost 15 years in this area shopping at least once weekly at one or both of the two GW's located in my county. For years, I also actively donated but have decided to stop donating anything of real value - I will not "give" my "good" items so they can rip off the rural poor and economically challenged people of my area who are their main consumer base. Their morbid fear that someone might buy an item and resell it for a few dollars profit is part of their reasoning for jacking up prices on items that once were reasonable and worth buying. Yes they do check Ebay to price things but as others have mentioned the stuff sold on Ebay is not in the junk state as is much of Goodwill's wares and clothing.
They have no problem throwing up chipped broken and crummy items to sit perpetually on their shelves with a high price tag, until it finally ages out and winds up in the dumpster it should have gone into the first place. It is so sad that much of the good stuff donated now never makes it into the store, but goes to their on-line auctions. I donated in the past so that local people with limited incomes would get access to good quality items I no longer had need of. Those days are over. Their current pricing is ridiculous. I have seen certain types small goods items price inflate 300-500% over the past year alone, and even more so in the last six months.
I've seen a lousy condition wedding dress price listed for almost $100. Used Old Dolls you could in retail stores priced 25% over new retail prices. The jewelry that does make it into the store and not to auction - jars (filled mostly with crummy party beads) prices have doubled and tripled, what was $5.99 little over a year ago is now $14.99. Now small knickknacks I paid less than $1 for only months ago are showing up $2.99-5.99. Much of which are not in good condition and could be bought new at a dollar store or Walmart for near or same price as GW is asking.
Store managers blame everything on corporate, as if everything is out of their hands as far as price structure, but I hear that is a sham excuse. It's time to "Occupy Goodwill" and boycott them, in the very least stop paying seriously overinflated prices. And if it cost more than a dollar or two - don't purchase the item, unless it really is an exceptional buy! Goodwill is going to price themselves right out of business but people have to wake up and stop enabling this price gouging, ripping off of the public which is what they do whenever they pay for any items with super inflated prices.

Your stores are big and elaborate for what is needed therefore the pricing is so out of range. Saw a set of dishes that was in the store over 14 days or just on the floor for 14 days, adding this set up was far over 200 or so dollars more than the internet. Pring in most cases even more than many Retail stores. I have went from shopping often to shopping hardly at all. Asked if they could take less and was laughed at and said "these dishes oh no". And I have donated so so much to Goodwill 3 to 4 times a year for years! I purchased a TV converter for 19.99, I thought that was overpriced. I have bought more than a few items that was missing something when I got home, or didn't work properly.

I used to shop at Goodwill pretty regularly, but I will never shop or donate to them again. Their pricing is completely out of control in all departments, their customer service is terrible. The stores are dirty and disorganized, and they are trying to sell broken items. There are 4 stores in my area and they are all the same. My most recent and last visit, there was a pretty worn Miami Dolphins football jersey with their famous black tag for $49.99, a Batman action figure that was missing parts and cape for $8.99, a broken Spiderman figure for $7.99 (the same figures are in Walmart and Target for about $15.00 to $20.00 new and complete), and a COFFEE CUP for $4.99! That's just to name a few items.
This was the first time in several months that I had stepped foot inside one of their stores. I had stopped because on a previous visit, the cashier decided to change a price of an item that I was purchasing because she didn't feel it was priced high enough! I was completely blown away and demanded to speak to a manager, the manager actually agreed and backed up the cashier. Needless to say I left everything that I was going to buy sitting on the counter at the checkout stand. It was only a $1.00 difference, but what gives them the right to change a price at the checkout and how is that even legal?!

I don't understand the pricing on their website. I find it difficult to believe that people are actually paying MORE for from a thrift store, than they would actually pay on eBay or at Marshall's, TJMaxx, or Amazon. I'd been watching the several Stentura 400 srt and 200 srt machines selling on Goodwill.com. While they came with stand, tripod, manuals, and ribbon, they also stated that they weren't guaranteed to work and that they were being listed for parts or repair only. Now, with odds like that, you brace yourself for the machine needing servicing. So I witnessed a 400 srt sell for 54.38. I witnessed another sell for about 67.92. I decided to bid on the 200 srt, located in Wisconsin which is closest to me (less shipping). I knew I would be busy later and unable to bid, so I just threw $200.00 on it, thinking it would hover around the same prices as the others sold for. WRONG!!
How does a Stentura 200 SRT by Stenograph, that's being listed as 'for parts', sell for MORE than what working ones are listing on eBay? Somehow, all of a sudden, the machine shot up to $126.00 for an 'As is', non-refundable, 'for repair or parts' machine. Only a fool would agree to this. I'd rather take the hit to my account than to pay for this. I believe there's still bidding going on....there has to be.

Overall I'm not happy with Goodwill like most people. My girlfriend and I have been shopping on their auction site off and on for a few months now. Here is my observation... Common things wrong with Goodwill online auctions: 1) Items poorly described. We tend to look at a variety of items (video games, clothes, historic things, jewelry, books, etcetera) and almost always they are very simply described. If there is a list of items it's usually incomplete with a few misspellings. I've been disappointed more than once after receiving an item and it's in bad shape. If they did a decent job in the description, I/we wouldn't have this issue. All you get their general statements about it's sold as is and they don't give guarantees. Several times I've seen items described incorrectly, especially military items. They claim WWI or WWII but when you see a tag (if lucky enough to get a photo (see rant below) it's clearly another era like Vietnam.
Pay attention to what you are buying and remember it's a total gamble when you buy from this company. My girlfriend got an inaccurately described Fitbit the other day. They did take it back and issue a refund after they acknowledged it was their bad. Titles tend to be wildly different from item to item too. Instead of placing keywords in the title they sometimes give a very simple worthless title like "video game lot." or "vintage coat." That really doesn't help me find the item but then again it's better than nothing. 2) Pictures are terrible. For the most part, Goodwill has poor pictures for their auctions. If I look at comics, video games, toys, clothes, whatever it is, I will get a general 'Hero' shot showing everything (usually) and then a close up of an item or two but that's it. If they are going to list this stuff they need to take adequate pictures. I bet their sales would go up.
3) Shipping is insanely high. No joke here. My girlfriend was looking at purchasing an item recently. It was listed as a lb item. Great news, shipping will be cheap then. Noooo, shipping weight was shockingly listed at 5 lbs. We passed on the item. Emailed the store, got nothing. I was hoping it was a mistake. Guess not. It’s happened to me many times too. Their shipping boxes are way too big for the item and charge way too much. 4) Shipping takes too long. Their auction pages typically state ships within 5 days. More than once I have waited until day 5 to get an item shipped. I want my item now not two weeks down the road! One last thing. I've been to several stores over the years and as usual they are very hit or miss. Hit the jackpot or strike out. My local store is decent. Staff isn't bad and prices tend to be fair. Other stores not so much. I think the stores in smaller towns are the ones to hit. The big ones in big cities are too overpriced.

I mean come on 24 pounds of wrist watches and the best watch in the box being a $5.00 Timex without a battery and yes I have experienced this with all of the shopgoodwill locations because I been shopping on the site for a long time. I have taken $500.00 losses on this site before on watch lots. I know I don't need to leave a negative review for others to see just check out ripoffreport.com. Shopgoodwill has tons of negative reviews. I even hear that there is some shill bidding taking place.
As for the shipping rates they should be included in what a buyer is willing to pay but come on get with the program shopgoodwill. Every online store offers free shipping. Now speaking of shipping why should I hafta wait 5 days before my item is shipped that's ridiculous. This site is a rip off hands down and I have a strong feeling that there is some shill bidding going down. Most of the time bidders wait until the last minute but not on shop goodwill. By the time it gets to snipe bid it is no longer worth it anymore. I rather buy now on eBay and have my item shipped within 24 hours.

I had graduated college with distinction and was an intern working very hard in the Employment Development Services Program before I was even given this position. The company's mission is to improve the quality of life for people with special needs, disabilities, and barriers to employment, through, education, job training and the power of work. I fit into this category in that I have a disability and have a criminal record from twelve years ago that they were aware when I was hired, that would be considered a barrier to employment. The mission sounds lovely but in reality "GREEDYWILL" was much more interested in how much money they could make and how fast people could work and produce so they could get things out on the sales floor to sell.
The retail manager didn't have any type of degree and basically I got no training when I started and no mentorship the year and a half I was there. Six months into the job my production manager quit along with two cashiers and two production workers and none of them were replaced. I did the job of two managers back and front of store every day. That is until one day the retail manager and human resources came in and told me I was fired and didn't give me a reason. This was actually a pattern in that managers were not kept long and fired unjustified excuses.
When I got back the reason from unemployment that I was let go, because I didn't report a broken thermometer. I knew that there is a reason for everything and what had happened was for the best. I did get awarded unemployment. Do not work for this company. They are unprofessional and do not stand by their mission. Took a brand new office chair to Georgetown, TX Goodwill store at 6pm on July 27 by mistake. Discovered the mistake and returned to the store at 9:30 on morning of July 28 to take used chair. Was told new chair had been sold!!! Ask for manager and permission to check in receiving area and was told I could not go in there. Even offered to buy the chair for whatever they would be charging for it. Decided that some employee of Goodwill is enjoying a brand new office chair. No more goodwill (bad will) donations from this house and will encourage others to join us in donating to honest charities and not a privately owned, for big profit company!

I don't know what is going on with Goodwill, but they are not living up to their beginnings, their roots. They were started by a Methodist minister to help handicapped people learn and train so they can get real jobs. Now, Goodwill is only about money. They are not a charity, they are not a nonprofit. They lie constantly - they tell people they help students, get jobs for people, improve lives. But their corporate executives make at least 1/2 a million dollars each. One CEO in Portland Oregon was making $900,000 a year and the City of Portland told him that is not acceptable for a nonprofit charity. So his salary was reduce by 25% and he is still making a half a million dollars a year. It is true that Salvation Army CEO makes about $25 - 50,000 a year and he gets a place to live, like an apartment, and maybe a car...the rest of the money does go to the Salvation Army homeless shelters and soup kitchens.
I read a number of other reviews about bad employees, high prices, rude personnel, children running in stores, bad quality items; none of these negative things happen or are allowed in our store. Kids do not run around in our store. The music is not too loud. Our clothes are so excellent, so clean, the quality is so good, our customers wonder if we have a washing machine in the back to clean all these clothes. Our clothes are nice quality, lots of designer labels, brand name labels, and we do not mark the designers up say more than $1.00...unless it is really something outstanding and rare, which happens very rarely. Dirty, soiled, torn, stained items never make it to the sales floor. Even items of clothing that are worn out, pilly, ring around the collar, do not make it to the sales floor.
Our managers are good kind people; all of our employees work really hard and treat our customers well, so negatives are not a problem. You will never see or hear any of our employees yelling at or treating a customer badly. Our cashiers, all of them, are good kind and very patient people. Our pricing is pretty good, not overpriced like I have read in some other complaints. We also do not give special deals to any customer. Every customer is treated the same. Jewelry goes in the glass case...it is first come, first serve on the jewelry. And usually anything of real value - gold and silver gems - we don't see it. If we do get those items in our sorting, I am not sure where those items go, but we usually don't see them in the glass case.
They used to send our valuable items away to e-commerce...the online stuff. But because of the need to make our store numbers look better, some of the more valuable things like designer bags and shoes are staying in our store. So no, we don't treat any customer any different than anyone else. No one gets anything special in our store. Every customer has a chance to find nice things. But my complaint is that this " nonprofit charity" is demanding that we produce 35 racks of clothing per day. If we do not produce this many racks of clothing, if we do not meet our quotas, we are constantly being told we will be fired. We have until the end of the month to make our numbers or we are fired.
The whole store is upset, all of the managers are on edge because they are afraid of losing their jobs. One of our managers was so stressed he thought he was having a heart attack. Our managers are stressed to the max because we are not meeting our required numbers. When they are stressed, they pass on the stress to the employees.
All of the employees I work with, us underlings, not management, are handicapped in some way: ADD, ADHD, bipolar, on medication for different disorders...and then there are a few of us are just normal characters running around, trying to make those numbers and hold everything together. But pressure is constantly being applied, threats made, harassment because these may be a little slower than normal people, are doing the best that they can, but they are not producing enough for these greedy corporate executives.
We get paid barely minimum wage. There are no perks, no bonuses, no incentives whatsoever for working in this place. But my complaint is that this "nonprofit charity" is demanding that we produce 35 racks of clothing per day, for more money!! And the clothing racks in the front of the store are jammed, crammed, so that we cannot get any more clothes out there! If we do not produce this many racks of clothing, if we do not meet our quotas, we are constantly being told we will be fired. Goodwill is always having some kind of 50% off sale to make more money. It makes no sense.
But this harassment, this constant threatening by corporate to fire us because we are not making enough money for them, this harassment is not ok. It is hurtful and insulting, and I can only imagine the people who are a little handicapped are afraid, because they need these jobs. We work really hard. We are a good team. This harassment and this threatening behavior has to be criminal, doesn't it?
I want to call someone, a corporate lawyer, the Labor Board, Labor Dept, but I don't know if it will do any good. Are these greedy dishonest corporate executives allowed to harass and threaten these handicapped people? It's just not right. I am writing this to let everyone know, Goodwill is not a nonprofit charity. They are greedy, money grubbing scoundrels. They lie...they do not help anyone. And I am in agreement with other posts that say if you want to help people with your donations, give to the Salvation Army. Their profits do go to help people in homeless shelters, help mothers and children, help people who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. There are chaplains, real genuine ministers and pastors at the Salvation Army. They have chapels and church services to help people. Give to the Salvation Army.
Goodwill is not good...they have forgotten their roots, forgotten what is was that made them a name in the first place. I just wish I knew if threats and harassment are something we have to live with at this Goodwill. Shameful behavior. I wish there was someone that could help us know our rights and what we can do about these threats. I wish I could tell people driving up to drop off their donations: "go to Salvation Army, there your donations really help people". I wish I could tell our football team to stop supporting them and sponsoring them...they have some deal, that if so many downs or yards are achieved, a donation will be made to Goodwill. I wish I could tell them to stop doing that...stop giving to these corporate monsters!

Finally the police arrive like 45 minutes later. When I came home that was late around 6 because got my keys and everything else on my purse.
The tracker google device shows that the thief was on the store for almost 30 minutes after got stolen. A new GW outlet just opened near me and was so excited to have a choice from the over crowed and rude customers from the previous one I shopped. I too noticed that the prices started getting higher and higher. My first trip to the new outlet I purchased some bowls, salad plates and dinner plates. The posted sign said dishes/glasses .25 cents. The cashier charged 50 cents for each dinner plate. I pointed out the sign and she told me they were more because they were larger and some things are not posted. This happened time and time again at the old store I shopped. The cashiers just make up prices on the spot. How can GW get away with charging higher than the posted price? Retail stores can not do this. I will start shopping and donating to the Salvation Army from now on.

I am an avid online shopper of auction sites. I enjoy shopping on Goodwill's auction site but have the same complaint as many. Their shipping prices are greatly inflated. In the past I have sold a few items on eBay and in shipping those items I never had to charge the exorbitant rate that Goodwill charges. Many times you pay more for the shipping than you do the actual item. I find it slightly offensive and disheartening that a non profit organization intentionally overcharges consumers in this way. I once saw an item with a shipping charge of over $100!! Wow!
Also consumers be aware many items you are bidding on you can get for much cheaper on eBay and many times (for smaller items) with free shipping. I often wonder why people are paying so much for certain items. Maybe since the item is sold by a non profit? I still enjoy the site and have gotten a few good deals but Goodwill please stop intentionally screwing us over with your inflated shipping charges!

Where do I start? Here is the thing about Goodwill, everyone thinks I will help out people if I donate to Goodwill but in fact they don't help anyone. Their slogan is that they help people get jobs. Now think about that for a min, they make tons of money off free stuff you give them. Well, ya.. that's going to make jobs for people but they do not, I repeat, they do not help anyone. I have read a lot of reviews and everyone complains about the service. The reason why is almost half of them are on probation or just got out of jail that is who they help not homeless people, not kids who need help, nothing.
And if the stuff you donate is not good enough for them, they recycle them. They turn old clothing into rags and stuff that actually has the Goodwill name on them. So they actually manufacture products By Goodwill. If you noticed on some of the tags of their new products, they're actually growing, manufacturing their own non donated products like a Walmart. I could go all night but I will end on this, go to Goodwill website and see or find who they help. So next time you want to get rid of some stuff you just don't need any more, please take it to salvation army. They really help people. Trust me.
They give people places to sleep, food, and the stuff you donate. And the money goes to the people. But if you just want to shop at Goodwill, fine, but you will never get good customer service because he might have just got out of jail and might not want to be there working for free. Thanks for your time. Spread the knowledge. Boycott Goodwill. Support Salvation Army if you want to make a change. But if you want to find a good deal or a treasure, I'm not against you. Go to Goodwill but just don't donate there.

I began working for Goodwill as a hanger. My daily quota of pieces to be hung started out as 650. It has lowered to 550, because of the ever constant changes being made. We are no longer allowed to hang anything low end like Walmart brand, Target brand unless with tags on them. Even good brands like Dickies, Arizona, Sonoma, Isaac Mizrahi, a famous fashion designer contracted with Target, cannot be hung. Only Abercrombie, high end stuff like White or Black, Ralph Lauren, Alisport, etc. can be hung and counted. Because of these changes, we can rarely make our daily goal anymore. We only get a bit of donated textiles a week to accomplish this feat and by the week's end, we are out of clothes completely.
We are constantly harassed to make goal or we will be wrote up. 3 write ups and you're fired. Yet, we are hardly provided with enough hangers, enough racks, or bins of good enough clothes to do this. We have a lead, that is supposed to help us do this, by moving our bins, removing hard goods and other seasonal clothes out of our workstation, and process good clothes to help us achieve our goal. Yet, after 11 leads, we have yet to have one stick it out without quitting or being fired.
So we mostly are on our own while our newest lead, as of past 2 weeks draws charts and numbers to throw at us, but doesn't really help us by doing her job. We are always stressed out. Goodwill sets a standard for us that is unrealistic and not attainable most of the time. We leave feeling worn out, sore, tired, depressed, stressed out, and frustrated. Every week we set out to accomplish great things but the lack of communication in most areas (it is usually one sided by them barking orders to us) and too much in other areas (not giving us a platform to speak) causes us to fail as a team.
At our store meetings, we are NEVER included as if we don't exist. Of course we actually work in a Warehouse of another Goodwill location and that store manager is not our immediate supervisor. Yet, she is better to us than our own down the street. It's crazy. I dread going to work. I wanted to feel good and be acknowledged for my work. Instead, I'm ignored and invisible. I aspired to take the lead position at one time, as I know I am qualified, but I feared the same fate for me. I've seen the way my store treats their leads. I for one wasn't up for being a huge failure like they make you out to be. The problem is them. But I still aspire to be a manager someday. I hope for their sake they can make some much needed changes before they lose some great employees.

One said a different price than the other, and the manager was called up and refused to make both the same price because different pricers put different prices. I was appalled by this. My experience with Goodwill stores are overall a good experience. I've always looked at shopping like a treasure hunt. I've been shopping at my local Goodwill 3131 S Oakes Rd Sturtevant, WI easily 2-3 years now. I've always had fairly consistent times when I shopped and have met several people throughout the years. I've always heard stories about Goodwill employees "tipping off" certain individuals, but never wanted to get caught up in the drama surrounding the store and the "regulars."
I started to show an interest in jewelry about six ago and with no surprise found a lot of these rumors to be true. Example: I shop every day at lunch and see the very same people (regulars), but on those jewelry days different regulars showed up. Maybe a coincidence, I've thought so, but started to keep track and found it wasn't. So....The one star rating is my response to hours of my time wasted hoping to stumble across a treasure that's already been handed over by an insider to a third party.

First of all let me say that I have been shopping at this location since the store opened. I have been a customer of Goodwill since the 1970's, and I see that the place is continually going downhill and no accountability with management and employees. And irregardless whether this is a thrift store or Macy's, your people need to leave their issues at home, and maintain proper control of patrons whose behavior is out of control behavior such as blocking aisles with baskets, or purposely snatching items by your hands, in the immediate area that you are shopping. The cycle at this store is that periodically they will blast their music at an incredible volume, and if that is not enough it will be a radio station that has a majority of songs of negative content (blame, and whine type of lyrics).
I have spoken to the mgr ** the other day when I was there, and he changed the station to a classic rock genre and "slightly" turned down the volume to a somewhat more tolerable level (seemed like only a notch) and I still think it could be lowered more, even though I do like classic rock. In fact I like modern rock as well, as long as it is appropriate for the store, and that there is no negative content, or soliciting. And a few days later when I returned with the coupons that they gave me (before it expired), the music was too loud again, 2 children was tearing up and down the aisle around me, running chasing each other, raising raucous, and tackling each other at the end of the rack.
This started when the employee working the women's clothing racks walked away from the area, and the kids stopped right before his return.. no one manning the cameras came out to tell the kids to stop running. Now it is bad enough that we adults shopping there have to put up with bad adults, who like to try to take things right next to your hand on the rack, and that kind of aggressive bad play, but to have the environment flooded with music loud enough for a club, and kids yelling, running and tackling each other around shoppers is inexcusable.
When I complained to the cashier, I get the same old story that you all just put in a new intercom system and that they cannot hear the paging if they turned down the music at a decent level. And that they also were told that they can NO longer do a store announcement to keep the children next to the parent, and no running in the stores. This is absolutely insane and ridiculous. It is nothing but an out of control "Daycare" with no real sensible or logical management. It makes one's shopping experience very ugly, to have to deal with bad behavior that affects everyone. I would like to remind management and the employees that each shopper is paying their wage, and for the success of this store, and there should be pleasant music with proper content, and at a decent volume. If you cannot hear the page without having the music blaring, then do NOT have any music.
I tend to think that it was total bull crap, that they cannot hear the page without having the volume way up. The point of the store is to give the patron a "POSITIVE EXPERIENCE" and they are NOT doing that. And all it takes for one of those kids to fall and Goodwill could get sued over a hurt child or a hurt adult that they may run into and or antagonize. I will NOT stop going to Goodwill but I will keep complaining until they remedy this issue.

There was another car ahead of us that was unloading a couch and a staff named ** was helping him, but he looks not pleased with what he is doing. We did not know the process if we will just have to unload or what, so my husband and I started unloading the boxes of clothes, then all of a sudden this ** yelled at us, and quote "put that back to your car!" My husband and I looked at each other, we are confused. Why is he asking us to put our donations back to our car?
He continuedly yell to us saying, put all the boxes and stuffs back because he will not get any donations from people like us who do not follow his orders. I said, "what orders? We do not know of any orders?" The guy who was ahead of us looked at me as if he is also as confused as I am with what this guy is mad at. I said to him, "we are only trying to donate and help." He won't listen, instead he kept yelling at us and trying to drove us away. I started video taping him asking why we cannot donate, he tries to hide his face and won't answer. He went in front of our car, took a picture of my license plate as if he is threatening us.
Then another staff of goodwill named ** apologizes and said he will take our donations. Hand us a piece of paper giving us a discount for any 1 item we will buy from goodwill. That is not necessary. What is important is the respect they should show to people who is trying to donate stuffs to help other people. I am now having second thoughts in donating at goodwill. Maybe they do not need good samaritans. If they want to attract more patrons, train their staff to show respect. Appliances that are old, old wooden bric-a-brac and dishes you can buy at the dollar store for a dollar instead of 3.99 at Goodwill.

Like many others here I remember shopping at Goodwill "back in the day" for good buys on clothing and vintage items, and occasionally finding something really cool. Shopping there was fun, but also a lifesaver for many needing basic items. I remember going through vinyl record bins and finding a handful of cheesy music and occasionally something good for 50 cents. Those days are gone. The records are universally garbage, scratched up, and now $2.99. Actual record stores don't price their garbage records that high. The prices don't reflect that the items are usually non-working, obsolete junk. They price things as if they were new and working. There is a 30-day return policy that is good only for in-store returns.
I have seen a pair of speakers for $300. Obsolete, filthy and obviously broken stereo equipment for hundreds of dollars. Broken turntables for $80. It's like they are looking things up on ebay and pricing according to the highest amount sold-- and as if the items are not broken. Used and worn clothes and shoes for almost as much money as you would pay at Target or a discount store, and many times MORE. That is the biggest turn-off, how you could actually pay more for a used shirt from Target at Goodwill than you would pay if you just bought it new. Does this help poor people? Or taking advantage of people's idea that this is a charity to make money? I realize everything is more expensive now, and lots more people think it's fun and "hip" to buy second hand. But these stores need to hear the message that they need to price things appropriately for used, broken stained obsolete junk, which is 99.9% of what is there.
Even though it is convenient to donate to Goodwill, find another thrift store that will take your good unused items, and smaller resale shops that are often much better deals and filter out the garbage. I say boycott Goodwill until they fix the pricing, and let them know on social media that it's not right to try to rip-off people by selling toxic waste and overpriced obsolete technology as if it was new. This is specifically for stores in Portland, Oregon, but i see it's the same everywhere.

It was nothing more then a network card for a laptop - not worth a whole lot but I spent an hour digging this out from the piles of garbage to have them take it back because they deemed it worth more than .59 cents? I thought this was the whole point of the outlet side. I tried to complain but he said he was the manager and he didn't really seem to care that not only is it bad business practices but also I believe illegal to offer something for sale then refuse to see it to you. Gee I wonder what else they take from people. I tried to call the 1-800 number on their website but it doesn't even go to Goodwill. Not a happy shopper.

At the stores, you can get a fair price. Each store prices differently and there are still bargains for people like me who live in the SF Bay area and spend 80% of their income on rent. Recently I decided to try the online store and found very decently priced items. I managed to find 3 things worth bidding on and bid what I thought would win the auction, yeah right! People are way over bidding on items on the site. I crossed referenced things on eBay and on average they were 20% overpriced. I could understand if things were refundable but they are not.
I feel like there are some fixes here or people are just plain dumb for paying 20% over an eBay price and not be able to return a faulty item. This drives prices up because people pay more than they should and try to resale this crap on eBay to get their money back. If you're thinking about buying on shopgoodwill.com don't bother it's a sham, you can get the same stuff in the store for more than 50% off at stores.

As a long time user of the auction I still kick myself when I win an electronic item knowing that it's about 90/10, 10 percent being the likelihood that it will actually work. I love it when they say things like untested (yet all they would have to do is plug it in). Or a battery operated item is untested because I don't think they go through the trouble of trying to check it, it's a miracle the BBB doesn't go after them. I would think there are 100's of upset buyers. They have an item for sale now that they claim is an antique cheese grater. It's actually an intercom speaker cover. Buyer beware, if you bid high $$$ for electronics, be prepared to be disappointed. Once I bought 10 Blu Ray DVDs only to receive 10 empty cases. Nice!

Been shopping at Goodwill Cincinnati stores for years. Last six months or so, the pricing has been increasing to the point of being ridiculous. They have half off sales one day weekly but if you are not getting the item half off, then you are paying new retail prices in many many cases. Why bother shopping there at all? Half off days are very picked over so I am going to have to forget these stores. Hopefully others will let them know they are hurting themselves and not helping anything.

When I saw I was overcharged, I told him I did not want the item for over charging me, when clearly you could read that it said $2.00. He told me "No, it says 4.00!" When the manager was called, I told her that the racket was $2.00, not $4.00. She told me "No, that looks like a $4.00 over the $2.00" and proceeded to take the racket! Since when does Goodwill take a used bent child's racket and UP the price on it TWO MORE DOLLARS!? I clearly saw that the racket had a TWO OVER the FOUR!
They know me as a very regular customer because I am in there buying lots of things very frequently! This was ridiculous! Who treats a regular customer in such a manner over a few dollars!? I have shopped at the Goodwill stores for over half a century. Donated the same. Have patronized all the stores in the area, including Everett Mall, Alderwood Mall, Edmonds. While I've donated items ranging from a 50 year old solid teak hutch, which others sell on craigslist for @2,000 etc., I've never been so appalled to see how minimum wage employees are treated so poorly, and managers march around barking orders.
I use to think that this was a non-profit (truly, not just labeled for tax reasons). But as most, the CEO, makes millions. I thought my money was truly going to the poor, and this was not a "Value Village." If only that were so. I feel sad. One day, while I was looking at an another item, my son (9 yr) saw something he liked, unmarked, and an adult employee confronted my 9 yr. old because my was trying to open the box to see what was inside. The adult was rude and aggressive. I told him so. It ended up it was store security. Think about that. An adult store security, harassing a 9yrs old boy. Is that part of the Goodwill training they boast about when they talk about "jobs change lives?" How about, "Aggressive behavior causes anxiety disorder in kids, and loses customers."
GOODWILL CEO and owner Mark Curran profits $2.3 million a year. Goodwill is a very catchy name for his business. You donate to his business and then he sells the items for PROFIT. He pays nothing for his products and pays his workers minimum wage! Nice Guy. $0.00 goes to help anyone! Stop giving to this man. Instead, give it to ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: GO "GREEN" AND PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE IT WILL DO SOME GOOD. I enjoy shopping with my local Goodwill and online. I have spent thousands online, and generally have good results with the items I receive. On three occasions I have received a product that was not as described. With two of the items I received a return shipping label and was promptly refunded including shipping and handling. The third item was a camera from the North Las Vegas store that was described as a GoPro Hero 3 camera. When I received it, it was a cheap camera for mounting on a helmet, and nothing like the product described. I was told that as a one time favor they would take it back, but I had to pay to ship back. I did receive a refund but not for my return shipping.
My biggest complaint is the exorbitant shipping fees that some online GW sellers are charging. Not only do they blow up the actual shipping fees, the packages take a week or more via FedEx and UPS. Items of clothing that weigh mere ounces are shipped in oversized boxes at astronomical rates when they could be sent first class or priority for a fraction of what they are charging. One of my last purchases... 2 items... had a combined shipping charge of $33. One item was a lightweight tapestry, the other a pair of skimpy shoes that weighed less than a pound. They calculated the shipping at 7 pounds!
When I inquired about using USPS instead of FedEx I was told that they only had small boxes for USPS, and my items would not fit in those small boxes. Hello? You can ship the SAME boxes with USPS that you use for FedEx!! And price is calculated on pounds not dimensional size. I have voiced my complaint many times to the corporate customer service, and each time I get a standard non-helpful response that makes no sense. Very very frustrating.

I asked the manager to see the video from their security camera and was told that only their security person could do that and then he would get in touch with me. I have been calling repeatedly. When I called yesterday I was told the security person was reviewing the tape and would contact me.
I called this morning and the person I spoke with had no idea of what was going on, but he would look into it, and call me back. It is now late afternoon and nobody called. I just called the store and the afternoon manager said it is now out of their hand and in the hands of the security person. I asked to speak with him and was told he was not in the store, but would contact me. I asked for a number where I could reach him. No, I could not because he goes from store to store. To make a long story short, my wallet was stolen, Goodwill is not cooperating, just passing the bucket, until I get tired of calling, I presume.
I asked the manager if they could post a note by the front door suggesting to the customer to always keep their purse or backpack in full view. Was told they are not allowed to do that. But apparently they can ask you to leave any bulky bag or backpack at the register. So, if it is their stuff that gets stolen it is a problem, if it is your stuff... well, after all it is just OPM (other people's money). Whenever I go to Goodwill I will make sure to tell every customer I meet to keep their purse tight. It is a free country and freedom of speech is still a right... right?

Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest #205 Spokane, WA - Have done on-line business with S.G.W. stores for many years. Have had problems before and almost without exception was treated fairly. That seems to be no longer the case. However, as so many businesses do, the more successful they are online the less they seem to care about the ones who support them. I guess they think it doesn't matter since more will come in. So BEWARE. These people WILL steal from you, cheat and lie to you. They sent the following email to store #205 when I received my binoculars that are totally useless. Not a single picture or word mentioned or showed any of this damage. The listing said; "This item is previously owned and shows wear but all the optics and focus appear to function just fine." But they didn't say the only thing that DID work was the focus. I will show some of THEIR pictures and some that I took.
I just received my Bushnell binoculars and must say that with the exception of the superb packing I was more disappointed and displeased since 3 years ago when I received a pair of kids toy binoculars that were positioned to appear as very good adult optics. Not only is the terrible condition of these binoculars inexcusable but even worse is the fact that although you may not be an expert someone took extra steps to clean just enough so a few pictures looked good. These were not the normal run of the cheaper optics selling for $5.00 to $10.00. These were nearly $40 with shipping and I can't afford to support SGW and get this disrespect in return. Don't you and your employees realize that I AM YOUR CUSTOMER and I do not appreciate, nor will I accept, this seemingly underhanded pawning off of damaged goods to your online bidders.
Nowhere in the listing was any discussion about them being 100% totally locked in a position frozen tight with very apparent rust deep inside both the front and rear pivot points. Also rust under both rear lenses, rust in the center focus pivot and the front pivot cover is rusted completely shut. Nowhere did it talk about the dried caked mud in every seam, in every crack and every crevice. Inside both rear lenses is a thin layer of dried mud all around the outer circle of glass. Even dried mud caked around the openings were the neck straps attach. This was known before they were listed since you can clearly see where the larger surface areas were wiped but nothing else. Nowhere did the listing discuss the double vision that is so noticeable it causes me to become dizzy.
These binoculars are not at all usable. If I tilt my head to one side I can look through them and even focus the lenses but by then the double vision along with a cocked head will have you swaying and looking about 2/3 drunk. Repair cost could easily amount to 8/10 times more than the binocular cost. I find it amazing that the pictures do not show any of this which indicates these were well set up shots showing only the better looking parts. I will wait for an advisement from you on the handling of this. Although, at least to me, this seems a blatant attempt to move some junk. Perhaps I'm wrong and a mistake occurred here that will be corrected and I won't need to take this any further. The only reply I received: "2015-04-04 09:55:52 ** [ticket closed]." Attached the first 3 pictures from SGW and the last 3 pictures from me.

I get home, when I take them out of the bag I find that the zipper has a glitch and I can't use them, so I take them BK the same day. Maybe no more than 35 mins after I left the store, the cashier was the same lady that had cashed me out earlier.
I explain to her the situation. Her remark was very sarcastic, and she told me in front of everyone, "You buy as is that's why you should of checked them out before you left the store." I said, "Excuse me?? May I speak to your manager??" "I am the manager here" she replied. I said "Well can I exchange them??" She says "I already told you no." I asked "who prices these clothes? And items?" "I do," she replied. I then told her, "look these pants I know for sure are 7.00 at Walmart, I come here coz Goodwill stores is suppose to have prices that us poor people and people with limited income can come buy coz we cannot afford to buy new clothes. All you have here is donated. I myself donate here."
But she just said "Well if the prices are too high that's how it has to be. Besides we live in a small town and the prices have to be high"... WHAT?? I recently began using Goodwill's auction site and it is blatantly obvious that they are shill billing. I don't think they are necessarily trying to be too discreet about it. I have watched auctions for a week without one bid and the moment I bid, another bid pops up outbidding mine. And, (this is the "obvious" part) most of the bids have been for just a penny over mine (which I purposely make very odd numbers and try never to repeat). More so, some of the "mystery shoppers" shill bids have been the exact bid amount that I had placed on a similar item (with the same seller). And, the shill bidding accounts always start with a letter and end in a number. Now, I realize that many people use a name followed by birthdays or special numbers for their User Names and IDs but there is a pattern to the shill bidders accounts.
I really don't want to mention it in this review because I don't want them to change their behavior in response to or because they are reading our posts. Listen, everyone knows this goes on and I don't believe anyone would do anything about it if you did offer convincing proof... We know that because of the attention this problem received when it was found out it was happening on the world's biggest auction site (which by the way, is a semblance of their former selves). People were "tricked" and deceived out of their money in all kinds of ways and they and their online payment processing partner (we all know who they are too) go on liked it never happened. So, I make it a point that if I ever use auction sites, I only bid the amount I really want to pay...period.
If it happens to be Goodwill's site, I know that if I get shill bid from employees and site workers trying to get me to pay more, all that I have to do is wait a day or two... The idiots actually re-list the item! Yes, apparently they are that stupid! I've actually placed a bid, immediately (and I mean within a SECOND or two) have been outbid and watched the item RELISTED all within a five (5) minute time period! (???) If Goodwill is attempting to conceal their shill bidding, they are doing a truly BAD JOB!
Be careful... Just bid what you are willing to pay (especially considering their ridiculously inflated shipping and handling fees added) or just do what most people do... STAY AWAY. It's not worth your time, money or most importantly, your sanity to deal with these kind of businesses. I'm sure the Goodwill billionaire owner won't miss us a bit...or who knows, maybe someday he will!

A certifiable crazy woman entered the store and was obnoxious and talking at the top of her lungs. The manager asked her to pipe down and she refused and was abusive towards her. I told the woman that she was loud and calm down because we typically don't have this kind of problem at this store. The woman response was to call me all kinds of "black ** , etc."
The staff placated her by assisting her with her shopping and her purchases so as to help her out as quickly as possible, but this went on for about 20 minutes. My issue is, had she been a black woman she would not have been allowed to continue this tirade or behave like this whether she was crazy or not. She wasn't crazy enough not to be driving and shopping. The store should have called the police and send her on her way. The name calling almost made me smack this woman and I haven't been in a fight for over 40 years. I looked around the corner and saw 3 Hispanic kids sitting on the floor trashing the sporting goods section with things all around them and putting on helmets and roller blade skates and playing with some kind of electronic game tablet taking it apart.
I told them that this is not their house and those are not yours to play with and to put everything back where they found them. There wasn't one adult attending them at all. I waited while they started to remove the skates etc. and put things back on the shelves. As I left them, there was another customer that said she told them basically the same thing and the kids just ignored them.
I then went to the cashier and asked for a Manager. The Manager was approaching and I told her what happened and that she needs to go and make sure they put things back and find the parents. The Manager proceeded to tell me that they aren't allowed to say anything but can only make an announcement on the speaker to make sure that parents tend to their children to avoid injury etc... I proceeded to tell her to forget being polite and politically correct and to do her job as manager or good customers like myself and others will never contribute to Goodwill again.
I asked her that if a guy came through the doors with his pants half way down below his butt would she allow him inside or tell him to pull them up or leave the store??? She said she would say something to him. I replied, that is the same thing. He is disrespecting your store and its customers and it is the same with allowing the kids to just trash your store and damage your goods that are for sale. She just said "I understand and yes ma’am.”
Then she left and instead of making the announcement, I saw her walk over where the kids were and looked down each aisle. I didn't see if she met up with the kids or parents and I was frustrated and left the store. It isn't the customer’s job to make them stop these activities!! This isn't the only time this has happened at other stores. Goodwill is so PC it isn't funny. I've been seeing a lot of complaints about Goodwill. The problem basically comes down to that they are not a total non-profit company. Their owner makes billions, CEO makes millions, and managers make tens of thousands, and the regular workers make little. Other problems are that this company was supposed to be an outlet for poorer people to shop and be able to afford to shop. Which is not the case anymore. $20 coats that were $20 at walmart? Prices are close to retail now. It's a USED store, their pricing should reflect that. They are going to price themselves out of business eventually when people start to shopping elsewhere.
As a re-seller it's no longer a place to find anything worth reselling because it goes to their online auction, or Employees get first pick, which I have seen too many times to account. For instance a lady works there she resells high end purses and jeans, and at times she's had cart fulls of stuff in the back. I don't have a problem with them raising their prices some, but us re-sellers have brought them tons of business and I feel it's just stab in the back honestly, and I think it will hurt them in the long run when people get tired of paying their inflated prices. The only time you get a deal is when they don't know what they have. I think many of us are angry are the ones that supported them and they are just being greedy.

I hadn't been to Goodwill for a few months, so I decided to stop by this morning. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they rearranged everything. Well, that surprise didn't last very long. I saw a Garmin GPS in the glass case, so I asked to take a look at it. It appeared to be in "like new" condition, so I purchased it. As soon as I got it home, I took it out of the box and plugged it into my cars lighter. It wouldn't turn on. I went back to Goodwill and asked the manager if they tested electronics before they put them out for sale. She said, "no", items are sold "as is" and there's a no return policy.
I sell used stuff at the flea market a couple times a year. If I have electronic items out for sale, I make sure the item works. How can a supposedly "respectable" company be allowed to DECEIVE their customers? Also, most of their prices are almost the same as retail. Tomorrow, I'm going back to demand a refund. If that doesn't work, then I will explore other options to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. I will NEVER patronize them again!

Beware! The online Shopgoodwill stores are making more on the postage than on the donated items they put up for auction. Since FedEx and UPS have changed the way they calculate shipping charges (Jan. 2015), the Shopgoodwill.com sites are using "Dimensional weight" to charge postage. Shopgoodwill now applies an arbitrary flat rate for your shipping cost and add another $2.50 to $3 for handling.
A few days ago, I was high bidder on three small, inexpensive items. Their total weight was 3 pounds 11 ounces. Two items were 7.5" High and one was a standard size book. The total cost for postage and handling for the three items was $45.16! The auction price for the three items was $20. I LIVE ONLY 60 MILES FROM THE STORE HOLDING THE AUCTION. THEY DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO PICK UP ITEMS. I asked that the postage be combined. I'm still going around and around with them about it.
The postage that they are charging you is not the price that FedEx is charging them. (They are using FedEx exclusively now that the company jacked up their postage. They are also using FedEx to pretend they are paying more.) I ship all the time and for $45 I can ship one big bass package to California by Express Mail for $45. In fact, I recently shipped a package to Germany by Priority Mail for $44. It weighed almost a pound more than the three items I purchased from Shopgoodwill Reading, Pa. Don't think you are getting a bargain on these sites. They are milking it for all they can, and who really knows where the money goes.

I was shopping and I realized that the color of the week (green) for this week was being removed. I was told by several associates that the color changes tomorrow (Saturday). Not true. Color changes on Sunday but regardless today is Friday. When I asked the manager she told me the racks were too full. When I asked why the color that was on sale she told me they had no merchandise in the back. Do I look stupid? I could understand if it was any other color but the one that's on sale. Not cool to lie but worst to cheat the consumers. I left upset.

I cannot believe how Goodwill is handling my situation! On Valentine's day, I was shopping in the Dublin store. I sat my glasses next to my belongings to try on some glasses and when I turned around, my $300.00 glasses were gone. I asked the employees for help, but they didn't seem interested. Long story short, they sold my property to someone else for 2 bucks!
Here's where things get even worst. You have reason to believe their employee by the name of David stole them! I call cooperate to look into the situation and guess what she tells me? I should have kept my glasses on me and that there's nothing she can do. Me being very upset and sad because these glasses were my world, I began to do some research. Well, their employee didn't follow any rules, made up his own price and had a very nasty attitude.
I'm currently looking for lawyer because the way corporate is treating me is a disgrace! Instead of them helping me with getting my glasses back, they are trying to find ways that I'm at fault. How in the world can you sell someone else expensive property, make money and still treat your customer like a bad person?

I AM IRRITATE!!!!! I found out about Shopgoodwill.com and I got very excited because I have, and still do, contribute to Goodwill, but they must do something about how this site is ran! I created an account and started bidding on items. I purchased many items that I loved and was happy to do so assuming it is going towards Goodwill and its mission. During 2 of the auction I went on vacation then returned to find my account disabled, I thought that it was weird so I emailed the contact information on the site. I emailed Shopgoodwill in November 2014. 3 weeks went by and I still did not get a response from Shopgoodwill so I simply decided to create another account.
The middle of January 2015 my new account was disabled again!!!! I checked my email to find that Shopgoodwill FINALLY emailed me back to tell me that I was PERMANENTLY DISABLED AND TO NEVER MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT AGAIN!!!! due to non-payment on 2 items and for having multiple accounts.... Yes, I did have multiple accounts because I had no idea why my first account was suspended and it took you 2 1/2 months to reply as to why..... Furthermore, if I did not pay for 2 items that is my fault and I'll admit to that but don't ban a customer FOREVER for doing so. A 30 day or 3 month ban I feel would be more than significant for first time non-payments. I tried to call their office in Orange California numerous time and have left 4 messages with no call-back, only un-personable emails that have done nothing but make a dedicated supporter of Goodwill very upset and extremely frustrated.

Goodwill Store and Office are nothing but a joke, thieves and liars. They brag about they sell at the stores where you can get the same item cheaper elsewhere. Not to forget the stuff Goodwill sells, it's all free. Worst of all taking advantage of disabled employees and paying them less and below wage standers. Goodwill should be sued for every penny they worth "55 Million" and shut them down.

After spending $47. at a GW in Littleton, Co, we came home and found 2 items in a cellophane bag were broken. We went back to the store in the afternoon. My husband brought the bag and a receipt to a cashier. It was the wrong receipt. He went to the car to retrieve the correct receipt. While he was in the car, I overheard 4 employees accuse us of stealing, of that not being the correct bag, and saying they were going to review the camera tape. When my husband returned, I told him what I had heard, he told them keep the item because of the insulting way we were treated. We left the store, they have our receipt and the item. This is how we were treated for a $2.00 broken item return. We will never go back to that store and will also tell our picker friends.
