My mom bought this from Wal-Mart after a friend recommended it to her. I applied it anyway but I started becoming skeptical after seeing my cat behaving strangely. Then I found the reviews on this site and I immediately gave him a bath about an hour after applying it. So far my cat is doing better and I hope it stays that way. This product may kill fleas but it can also kill your pet.

Normally I use Advantage or Frontline flea medicine on my cat with no problem. I got a free sample of the Sergeant's flea prevention drops. So I put it on my cat. Later that day she starts foaming at the mouth, jerking and twitching. At first I didn't realize that was what was making her sick. She wasn't acting herself and I was scared. Took her to the vet and he said that it was the Sergeant's. I can't believe it's still on the market. Hope I get my old cat back. Do not use this product!!

I bought Sergeant's dual action flea collar for my cat today. After about 10 minutes she started getting irritated. After an hour or two of being around her I got a bad headache and she got very sleepy and kinda weak. After 5 hours I was getting disoriented and realized if I'm experiencing this from being a couple feet away what's happening to her. I cut it off and poured water over her neck. About 5 minutes later she seems better. Do not buy this product. Yes it kills the fleas but it slowly kills you and your cat in the process.

I used Sergeant's flea and tick shampoo on my Beagle BG. The next day I noticed a bald spot about the size of a dime on her back. I ran cold water and Dawn over her hair and the spot kept getting bigger. I ran her to the emergency vet - they took her back. I was scared. They came out 30 min later and had me go into her room. Half of her back was bleeding and hairless. We had to spend a lot of money to save my baby. I sent the bill, vet diagnosis and the rest of the shampoo to Sergeant's. They sent me a letter apologizing for the inconvenience and a box of toys. That's it. I almost lost her and a box of toys was going to make it better?

I used Sergeant's silver squeeze on for cats over 5lbs (our cat is well over) three days ago now. But as of yesterday she has been admitted to the vet's fighting for her life due to pyrethrin toxicity.... I just talked to the doctor and things are not looking good! This pesticide is so harmful some exterminators refuse to use it TO KILL BUGS AND PEST SO HOW CAN IT BE OKAY TO PUT ON MY CAT? I asked the vet if it was on the label and I just wasn't seeing it as I've read it a dozen times at least. Her answer was it's listed as "other ingredient" but no it does not say they used it.
I'm currently getting ready to take my 11 year old brother to see his cat and best friend for hopefully what's not but could be the last time we may get to see her. He should not have to see her in this much pain and trying to fight but this is the beginning of a much bigger fight.. She was named after the goddess of love because she is all love for her family and we are the same for her and we will not rest until we know another cat and their family won't have to be put through this.
This company should be shut down for murdering pets.. Well I stopped writing to go see her and she's closer to leaving us than she is to coming home and euthanizing her is now the talk my mother and I have to have with her 11 year old best friend.. Today I watched his heart shatter and I promised him that it's not over and the vet is as mortified as we are. I'm a lover not a fighter but I will fight for what I love and they have gravely harmed, very likely murdered someone I love and devastated my family so I'm gearing up for the fight of fights!! APHRODITE'S FIGHT!!!!!

I purchased this product/pet treat for my dog because it had no other country of origin on the label; only a US Flag/Made in USA, and a US address "Manufactured by: Sergeants in Omaha, NE". This product is unsafe and nearly killed my dog. On the 4th day of receiving one of these treats per day, he began vomiting and heaving. Not being sure what the cause was, the vet advised 10 mg tablet of famotidine to settle his stomach and small amounts of water or ice cubes, but all came back up, several times. And fearing dehydration, I took him to the animal hospital, as it was after hours and all vets were now closed. Upon examination chunks of the undigested treat were found in his stool.
Their origin clearly identifiable by their color, causing a blockage, evident on the x-rays, and severely dehydrating him. He was admitted overnight and fed IV fluids and other medicines to stop the vomiting, and remained until additional x-rays taken at later intervals showed after treatment and medicines, the blockage was dissolved/removed. This is an unsafe product and should not be permitted to display a Made in USA symbol; it is false advertising as the manufacturer manufactures it from ingredients sourced overseas. After he was discharged, I researched and found hundreds of complaints and a Change.org petition with over 650 sign ups due to the same experience. How is this product still on the market, and how is this US emblem permitted to be so abused. There must be a consequence for peddling such deadly products.

I bought Sergeant's Gold liquid ampules and used it where directed on my large Bombay cat. The next day, he had an 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch strip of skin showing with no hair. After a month, still no hair has grown on the application spot. It was my first time using this product and not only did he lose his hair, but the box clearly states "goes on clear and dry" but the whole area was greasy looking for days. I thought the cat was just allergic to that one product but now I'm wondering about my older but smaller cat as well, after reading these accounts. I purchased the item in late April 2015. I have one ampule left from the three pack but plan to take the other box back.

I applied the Evolve 40 as directed. 2 days later I take my dog to the park as we do multiple times during the week, to walk, run and play. Panting a little harder than normal so we came home. A hour later in the backyard she seized up, started to shake and gums lost most color. I believe her pores opened up from sweating and the poison found its way into her system full force. Bad product, bad company for supplying to the public. Wonder where these products are made?

I looked up anything close to what was happening to my cat after reading the comments on this site I quickly started washing her off with some Dawn soap and made sure she drank some milk. She has yet to act any different than normal but it has only been a few hours. After reading all of the comments I will not be buying anything with Sergeant's again.

Sergeant's Evolve flea & tick - We put the application on as described in the instructions on our beagle. Noticed the first day that her left side was twitching and she continued to look back as it did. It continued on the next day, and we thought she was cold and she was restless. As I was home the following day it continued on, and we did some research and discovered that it could be an adverse reaction to the flea and tick application. We immediately washed her off, then called the emergency vet. They instructed us to bring her in. They gave us some meds and we took her to her vet the next morning. They ran test and said her liver and kidneys are fine and we should wash her again with Dawn and continue the medication. This has been a traumatic experience and I will never use a Sergeant product again. Please BEWARE!!!!!

I would like to inform you that the antiparasitic SERGEANT'S GREEN COLLAR CAT caused a strong shock and pain to my cat, making him run like crazy. I removed it as quickly as possible. My cat is a quiet animal and so far had no problem with other medicine. Then, making some research on the internet, I found out that this product is extremely dangerous for pets (cats/dogs) and that many guests mentioned serious adverse reactions and burns after using it. It appears that my kitty (and I indirectly, who love him) was lucky in his misfortune, because I ordered the collar instead of the ampoule. So, I removed it in one - two minutes before the symptoms worsen. If you love your pet, please do not use this product. Moreover, what I saw wasn't some kind of allergic reaction, according to packaging information, but something much more serious.

I bathed him soon after with an all natural dog shampoo which gave him some relief but not for long. Within a few minutes he was pacing again and went on all night. He is eating and drinking and playful so far, which I am thankful for, but this is just not normal and cannot be good for his nervous system. I bought Sergeant's flea and tick drops for my 9 month Catahoula. I put them on her yesterday 4-1-15, and thought nothing else of it. Somehow, my 2 year old outside cat ingested some of it, I believe by grooming my dog and normal play. At 9:30pm (7 hours after application) my cat started having horrible seizures until 5 am (4-2-15). At 10 pm, we realized what might have happened and bathed him in Dawn dish soap, towel dried him, and turned the blow dryer on him. He was still shaking pretty bad, but not in a seizure. We knew he still had some poison in his system. We managed to get some milk in him, and water through an eye dropper. As I was on the phone with the company, he had a very violent seizure and quit breathing. My mom managed to push on his side and he started breathing, all while the lady on the phone repeatedly asked me my phone number, and I am trying to tell her to hang on.
After this seizure, he started panting really bad, and his heart was racing. I had read on one person's comment that their ER vet gave their small dog Valium, (what I am about to say next, I don't recommend, but there is no ER vet in our area and my mom was a vet tech) so we crushed up a little bit of one of my Klonopin and mixed it with water and forced it down him. After about 20 minutes, he was no longer shaking as bad, his seizures lengthened to about one an hour, and he was resting in between. He finally stopped seizing this morning, we are coming up on 24 hours post application and he is still shaking very little, has eaten some tuna (I think he deserved it), has drank some water, moved his bowels, urinated and is sleeping in a chair. He is still not up to par, but he is a lot better than last night.
I thought for sure we lost him when he quit breathing but thankfully my mom has lived on a farm her whole life, used to take care of animals and was more level headed than me and my husband. We offer our story for those who may help their pet because of this poison. Milk coats the stomach, we have used bread to help bind with poison over the years, always push the fluids, even if you have to force them with a medicine dropper. We even gave the cat a little bullion just for the calories. He is not out of the woods yet, but we are hopeful he will pull through. I also don't support using a human medicine on a cat, but thankfully, it did what it does to me and calmed his shaking and panting. Please know that by treating your own pet can be harmful if you don't know what you are doing.
Our nearest ER vet is an hour away, and with both mom and I being disabled, we couldn't have afforded the rate an ER charges. His regular vet isn't too expensive, so I don't suggest buying this stuff to cut corners, even though we tried to do it. We hope all the best for you and your fur babies.

My update and pictures of my baby girl Scraggles since the application of product PetArmourPro Advance. I did receive a refund from the company. I also spoke with a gentleman named ** that is the buyer for pet products for Wal-Mart in October 2014. He stated since I received the refund from Sergeant's there is nothing more he could do. Really? He also stated that they would be removed from the shelves at Wal-Mart and that never transpired. Also was told a recall would be issued by Sergeant's due to # of complaints but that never happened... I still see the products at the local Wal-Marts, Targets, Meijers etc.
So the recall that Sergeant's alleged would happen didn't. Hmmm! I am posting current pictures of the same cat. This is now 6 months later and she is still suffering despite being to vet and also being treated with various medications for cats - homeopathic as well as traditional. They need to recall their products and also compensate those of us that have suffered emotional pain seeing our animals this way as well as the financial compensation for the cost of treatments for the animals! I think a lawyer needs to be contacted today as far as I am concerned re: my baby girl.

After many visits to our veterinarian we have had an MRI done and my dog has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and has six months to live. I am heart broken to say the least.
This is a nightmare and so very sad to see my dog suffer from a product that I used in good faith. The flea control product is toxic and should not be used on animals. This flea control product must be taken off of the market. No animal should be allowed to suffer when there is testimony after testimony that this product is harmful to your pet. But anyways I go in my room to check on her and I find her scratching, twitching, whining, kicking the carpet with one leg and limping with the same leg she was scratching with.
So after that I went online and typed in the name of the drops I had put on my dog. And it turns out SERGEANT HAD BAD REVIEWS from a lot of people. And there was one comment that caught my eye saying, "GET THAT CRAP OFF YOUR DOG..." And bam right there, that's all I needed to hear. So I rushed her to the bath, and scrubbed mainly the neck to the shoulder bones and her foot she kept trying to lick. So I gave her two baths that day but she still limps but don't worry I'm gonna take her to the vet. So PLEASE NEVER BUY THIS CRAP UNLESS YOU WANT YOU DOG OR CAT TO DIE A SLOW SUCKY DEATH. : /

I am fuming right now. Our sweet dog is now experiencing side effects from having Sergeant's flea and tick meds given to her. I applied it to the back of her neck in between the shoulder blades as directed. She didn't have any type of immediate reaction to it. No reaction came until this morning about 12 hrs after administering the meds. She began having pretty noticeable twitching in her back left leg. She seems nervous and anxious, pacing and behaving in a kind of crazed manner. I wasn't sure what was going on. With how much she was biting and scratching her leg, I thought maybe she had something stuck in between one of her toes. No yelping when I would apply gentle pressure or move her nails or toes around. I can sense she wants to go to the bathroom but seems like she can't bring herself to go. She hasn't eaten or drank much of anything all day.
Once I did a search for leg twitching in dogs, I came across this site and wham! The symptoms I am seeing in our dog are spot on with some of the symptoms others' pets were having. We have given her two baths today. First one with dog shampoo (not Sergeant's brand thankfully) and a second one with Dawn. I am so hoping that what she is experiencing right now is as bad as it gets. We will be closely monitoring her as the day and night progresses. We have used other flea products before and have never had this issue until now come up. Next time I will be sure to do my due diligence before giving my pets any type of meds that are deemed "hazardous to humans and domestic animals." I applied this product to my 5 year old pug at 4pm. He has had other Sergeants flea drop before and never had any issue. This was however the first time I had purchased the "evolve". We went out at 6, came home around 9. He was acting really strange, agitated, pacing, panting, twitching. I called the vet and then we made the connection that it was likely the flea meds. They told me to bathe him and if symptoms got worse take him in. Bathed him, also called the hotline number on the box. They confirmed him to be having an allergic reaction based on symptoms, they said to bathe him in dawn dish detergent. 3 baths later he was so worn out he fell asleep, we thought that was the end of it. He woke us at 5am, yelping, chasing his tail, kicking out his leg, acting completely "crazy". We let him in the back yard and he ran and hid under a bush. He seemed terrified. We immediately called emergency vet and they told us to take him asap. The diagnosis, flea product toxicity. He was sedated, given steroids and pain meds. He was sent home with 3 prescriptions. We were told the next 2 to 3 day would be a rollercoaster.
Today is day 2. He is on the mend, but it has been a nightmare. I have never seen my dog suffer like this. I would never have given my dog a product that had this type of risk. It is only after this happened I am learning the sheer number of pets this product has harmed. I will tell as many people as possible to not buy this product. It is irresponsible of Sergeants to still have this on the market. Shame on them.

Going to say that I had no idea at first that their products had caused the problems until I read the reviews and went to report symptoms to my vet! We have never had a big problem with fleas in our house until a visiting relative brought fleas on her clothing from their 2 infested dogs! Our stepdaughter's mother seemed to even be aware that they had a flea infestation in their home. Or she was denying it! Either way, her daughter comes to visit us every other weekend but hadn't visited from Jan-May due to my hubby spinal surgery. Once she arrived, she brought fleas with her. We noticed fleabites on her legs. I told her to tell her mom. I left to go visit my mother out of state and I come back to fleas jumping all over me!
We new flea collars and sprays both from Sergeant’s! Not only didn't it work but both cats began to go crazy! Jumping all over the place, scratching worse than ever! Not only that but they were running wild and their social habits began to change rapidly, peeing all over the place and hiding in weird places. We bombed the house twice without them in the house and then took them to the vet for Capstar and Frontline Plus (which doesn't work very well either). I began to consider putting my cats down b/c they were so miserable. My younger cat developed a blocked tear duct and my older cat stopped eating and got very lethargic and depressed. He would drink constantly from the tub faucet but refused to eat much. He lost 5 pounds and his fur started falling out!!!
After 3 blood tests to check for possible diabetes, chronic renal failure and thyroid issues (all came back negative) the vet narrowed it down to allergic skin disease caused by the Sergeant’s products that had gotten into his skin!!! A steroid shot, dewormer and heartworm shot, plus an antibiotic and B-12 and within 5 days I got my cat's personality back. Please do NOT buy Sergeant's products. Your vet may be expensive, but it's not worth using cheap stuff that doesn't work that might cause an allergic reaction and make your cat sick or worse!

I used sergeant spot-on on our very healthy cat. Within 5 hours, she could barely walk, seemed to be crying out in pain all over, anywhere you touched her, her eyes were rolling inside her head, and twitching terribly, her whole body was shaking terribly, was having trouble breathing and could not shut her mouth. Then she had two extremely severe seizures, she shook so hard convulsing, her eyes rolled up inside her head, she was gripping the mattress with her claws so hard, she ripped several claws out, she was drooling awful, it lasted several minutes. This exhausted her. That was over six hours ago since the seizures, she still is extremely weak and in a lot of pain, shaking, unable to walk, crying, etc!!!
I trusted this company and their products and now my cat Sheba, my baby is going through unimaginable hell, and I don't even know if she is going to live!!! How can this company be allowed to sell products that are suppose to help your pets, that actually poison them?? I regret I hadn't looked Sergeants up before using it on my cat!! But I trusted that since they were on store shelves everywhere, that it must be safe!! Then when I looked product up on the web, there are over 500 complaints much like mine, many resulting in death from many of Sergeants products!! We should all fight to ban ALL of Sergeants products from being sold anywhere!! They need to be sued for the hell they have put these poor pets and their owners through! About 3 days ago I applied the sergeant's flea and tick squeeze liquid on my two little dogs. One weighs 11 pounds, the other one weighs 12. I noticed about 20 minutes thereafter they started panting a lot like if they were very hot and thirsty and they started like trying to reach to their back, their spine area to scratch and they kept doing that repeatedly. The older one started getting like a nervous twitch and that really concerns me. Right now the older one seems a bit exhausted today and I'm kind of concerned. I believe I will take her to the vet hopefully tomorrow if I don't see any improvement. The following day I bathed my two little dogs. And I am going to bathe them again today because they seem a little bit still bothered and not too comfortable.
On my smaller dog the 11 pound dog, the area where I put the liquid drops seems to be warm kind of feverish so that also concerns me. I feel that Sergeant's needs to stop selling this product because it seems to be rather dangerous for dogs as well. I feel like I should send them their product back and they need to reevaluate their product because soon they will be liable and sued by a lot of people I'm sure. I will never again ever buy this product for my dogs and I will let my friends and family know the ugly side effects of this product.

I applied this product to my dog at 6pm on 10/13/14 because he was scratching a little so figured he had fleas, again. I noticed by 8pm that he was extremely restless & scratching non-stop. He normally finds a spot on a chair or couch & falls asleep at this time of night. He was going, frantically from spot to spot to spot to spot, shaking, itching. At 9:30, my husband & I decided to go to bed. I knew he was too wiggly to sleep in bed with us so I put him & his dog bed in our large bathroom & shut the door. I could hear him whining, as if in pain. He never whines & thrashing around in the bathroom so I went in to check on him at 10. I decided to give him a bath to wash the product off with dog shampoo I have used on him for 7 years.
I let him lay on the spare bedroom bed with me so I could monitor. It helped a little. He stopped scratching but went from spot to spot to spot, paced up & down the bed & every time he'd lay down, his legs would spasm. He was awake all night, which never happens therefore, because I was so concerned for him, I was awake all night too, monitoring. We went to the vet at 7:30am. The vet said he did believe it was the flea & tick medicine I used on him & said to give him another bath with Dawn dish soap & gave me some anxiety medication so the poor dog could relax a bit & get some rest. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!!! I WILL be pursuing this. This product is unsafe & needs to be taken off the market. While awake all night, I've read hundreds of complaints about this & worse things happening to other dogs due to this product.

Sergeant's Silver Squeeze-on for Cats and Kittens - I adopted my kitty Imzadi, from a couple on Facebook. When I got her, they said this was the brand of flea control they had been using, so I continued to use it, even though I've always used Pet Armor in the past. Unlike a lot of the other animals in these reviews, Immy did not show any immediate adverse effects, so I continued to use it, completely unaware of what was going on.
Then, about 6 weeks ago, I applied a dose to the back of her shoulder blades, like always. This time, everything went wrong. She immediately started to shriek and thrash. My neighbor, who was holding her, was as alarmed as I was. I read the back of the package and it instructed me to "wash with mild soap and large amounts of water" in case of a reaction, which I did. As soon as the flea med was washed off, she began to settle down and by the end of the bath was even purring. I thought that would be the end of it and threw out the packaging.
But over the next 6 weeks, things continued to go downhill. She started acting funny; crying for no apparent reason, excessive grooming and then eventually she started peeing on the carpet, which she had never done. I noticed a huge increase in her water intake and a foul smell in her urine and she didn't want her back touched. I called my vet and he confirmed my suspicions; kidney disease. It would have eventually lead to kidney failure, if I hadn't had her put down. My poor baby was slowly poisoned by this "treatment". Never again.

Bought two of the Sergeant’s flea and tick collars for the two cats we have and within a few hours one cat was having a severe reaction with horrible smelling diarrhea, shakes, head shaking, eyes looking funny, couldn’t walk, tongue hanging out and couldn't meow or make noise, heart was racing and no balance. Immediately removed his collar and began bathing him in Dawn dish soap and called the number on the package - basically told me to bathe with Dawn dish soap and get to a vet immediately.
Ok who has the money for an emergency visit in the middle of the night and the nearest 24 hour vet by me is over an hour away, which I told her. She put me on hold to talk to someone and came back on and told me they strongly suggest to go to vet immediately and they reviewed the ingredients in the flea collars based on the bar code and lot number I gave them and nothing should have caused a reaction, what!?! No problems with either of the cats, both in good health, well they must have chewed on the collars even though there is no way they could reach them and both cats are kept in separate rooms always.

My husband purchased 2 boxes of the PetArmorPro Advanced at Walmart on 08/11/14. I didn't apply it to my 5 cats until a couple of days later. When I did, it appeared to work initially but within hours instead of the fleas starting to dissipate it appeared like they were mutating and that on some of the cats there was a larger abundance of them than had previously been. . I dismissed that to the fact that had just applied it to them and went by the advice on the box regarding the length of time that it could take to get them under control. I had also used Raid Flea and tick killer for carpet along with other products in the home as well as outside the home. We thought we had them under control..somewhat....however that was not the case.... After a couple of days, yes there were some dead ones.....there also was a major increase in flea dander being left from all 5 of them. Which I expected however but that continued as did the mutation of the fleas and they also got larger....instead of going away.
I reapplied the Raid flea and tick killer carpet powder numerous times as well as the sprays both inside and out as well as gave all the cats so many baths that they would run and hide when the water was running sometimes. I washed all our bedding almost daily and all the throw rugs etc. It got to the point of being ridiculous. I spoke to a rep from Sergeant anonymously and stated my concern... I was assured that it would work and there would be no issues. NOT! As it got further long in the month all of a sudden my female cat who is a little over 2 years old started chewing on herself and meowing a lot more due to the number of fleas that were invading her little body. (She was a runt and almost didn't make it. She was bottle fed the 1st 3+ weeks of her life until she could eat soft food.) The males continued itching a lot also but nowhere near as much as her except my oldest one. (They're all the appropriate weight and health BTW.)
As of now she looks like someone did a punk design on her and she has bite marks all over. We trimmed her claws, bathed her numerous times with a gentle soap not getting anywhere near the application area. I applied triple antibiotic, or an anti itch recommended by the vet on her to prevent her from itching more and also to aid her in healing. This is her today. I am so angry with the deception that this company used in stating that it would work as well as FRONT LINE and that it contained similar active ingredients! **! I have contacted Sergeant via email regarding this issue and hope to hear back although not counting on anything positive from them based on the other posts. Over $67.00 down the tubes and a cat that is so sweet and so small compared to my males having to contend with the BS due to the boasting of a company that cannot compete with the maker of Frontline or the maker of Advantage Ii-Bayer.
I pray that I am able to get a refund from them. I am posting to warn others. Check out the pictures of my little baby girl due to this stuff! I am really really angry re: what it did to her. If this review helps prevent others from going through what I have and my poor baby girl has...then I will be happy with that. And the bottom line of this is DO NOT PURCHASE THAT PRODUCT. IT DOESN'T WORK AS THEY CLAIM IT DOES. NONE OF MY CATS ARE RELATED AND SOME HAVE DIFFERENT BLOOD TYPES ........BUT THEY ALL STILL HAVE FLEAS AND A LOT MORE THAN THEY SHOULD AFTER USING A PRODUCT. I HAVE OWNED CATS FOR OVER 40 YEARS AND USED VARIOUS PRODUCTS OVER THE YEARS AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH FLEAS LIKE THIS.

I went home and lightly sprayed the carpets, the smell was SO BAD (even though the bottle said "Clean Fresh Scent"). I sprayed at 6:00 p.m., I opened the windows in the room and closed the door. (I closed the door to keep our pets off of the carpet, the bottle never said anything about ventilation).... At 9:30 we checked to see if the carpet was dry which it was bit the smell was so bad it burned our eyes and noses.
I called the emergency number on the bottle and the person I talked to said to rinse our eyes and get fresh air and give it another couple hours to air out. (I have all the doors and windows open and it is 40 degrees outside with a breeze blowing) if it wasn't better to call back and then see what they could do next, which I'm not sure what they can do. After contacting my local emergency animal hospital, when the symptoms didn't subside, they told me to wash the product off immediately, which I did, but apparently it had already gotten into the cat's system, causing liver Problems, lack of appetite, weight loss, & vomiting. Over the next few weeks, and many many vet visits, we flushed the cat's system with Daily IV fluids, medication and special digestive foods.
I worked with Sergeant's corporate office to file a medical claim. The Vet spoke with Sergeant's verifying that these problems were caused by their product. We had the receipts, bar codes, Lot #s, blood tests and everything that they asked for. HOWEVER, due to the fact that we had the cat's ears rinsed of some ear mites, Sergeant's decided that the LIVER PROBLEMS were not caused by their product since the cat was treated for ear mites. However, they offered $68 if I signed a release form. This is a horrible company, that will not stand by their product and they WILL FIND ANY EXCUSE NOT TO PAY FOR DAMAGES CAUSED BY THEIR PRODUCT. Within an hour of treating my cat, I noticed that she was tired. She had eaten a very good meal and I assumed that she was feeling full and napped. I left to go to the movies, and upon my return, she was still sleeping. This was very unusual in the middle of the day for this young vibrant cat. I have been a cat owner for years and knew immediately that something was not right. The only thing different in our day was the flea medicine. When this thought hit me, it occurred to me that I needed to bathe her immediately. I did thoroughly and I prayed for God to restore her. I then fed her a small amount of milk hoping that this would also counteract this obvious poison.
Within 20 minutes, she seemed to "wake up." She still remained tired acting, but she now seemed to have her wits regaining throughout the next hour. I kept a close watch until I was satisfied that she would pull through. At 4am I woke up to her laying on my chest still. This young cat less than a year old was still sleeping. I picked her up and she was somewhat limp. I again prayed for her and got her to drink some water and eat some tuna fish. It was small amounts, but again she seemed to revive some. It is now almost 7am, and she is now moving about and the lethargy looks as if it has lifted almost completely.
This product had severe adverse effects on my cat and I am positive that it is extremely harmful to animals. I bought this product out of convenience, at the Family Dollar Store. I had no idea about its terrible reputation, and when I saw the name Sergeant's, I remembered the commercials, and thought a well known and advertised product would be safe. In fact, it never occurred to me that a big name like Sergeant's is so careless! I came on this website to warn others and see that there is currently 422 complaints about this product. SHAME ON SERGEANT'S! This needs to be IMMEDIATELY pulled off the shelves and all victims compensated! I will make it my mission to advocate against their carelessness! Obviously they see these complaints and have not fixed the problem while animals die from their flea treatments.

Once I figured out it was the flea medication, I also got a second opinion to see if I could save my dog. Blood work was done to confirm it was the flea medication. It had caused a yeast infection to grow on his skin and attack his immune system. I contacted Sergeant's to inform them of the results. The rep in charge said they would reimburse me for all vet care. I gathered all evidence and sent to their rep. I received a check for 22.00!!!!!!!!!! This only was the cost of their medication. It progressively got worse and I had to have my dog put down. This was a painful and agonizing way for my dog to die not to mention how it hurt me to lose such a valuable, faithful, beautiful dog who was my family.

My dad used this for our 2 medium sized dogs. Less than 20 min after he used it the larger of the 2 was frothing a lot, and about 30 min after it was obvious that there was something wrong. She is restless, scratching, and acted like a bee was stinging her on the back of her neck about every 10 seconds. It took 2 days to pass. But on the 3rd day she had a hot spot on the back of her neck. Now. I have owned dogs for a long time now and none of them have ever gotten hot spots. 1 day later she had 2 more hot spots and so does the other dog on the back of their neck! This poison need to be banned as well as Hartz.

My GOOD EXPERIENCE WITH SERGEANT'S GREEN FOR CATS
I had three cats die from synthetic pyrethins in Hartz Mountain topical products for cats, which left another one of my cats neurologically damaged and bald on one side.. It was kept on the market, permissibly for three years, after it was discovered to cause neurological damage and death in many cats.
I was looking into whether my cats might benefit from more natural products for flea control. Many products were ineffective. Then, I discovered Sergeant's Green for cats. My now 21 year old cat hates the taste, and so stopped stress licking her fur off. Apparently, she had a different form of mite, (not ear mites). Her hair gradually returned. She no longer had blood in her urine, like she had after application of the Hartz Mountain Pyrethrin flea control product.
My cats are house-cats, and for me this is a wonderfully effective flea control product that is safe and effective to use on my 21 year old cat. My cat learned not to lick the Green. The label warns against exposure to the eyes, as the Green acts as an irritant to mucus membranes. Put the product between the cat's shoulder blades, but enlarge the area by rubbing it around to avoid a temporary focal concentration point.
Would you rather have your cat lick a natural nontoxic food quality oil, or a pesticide?

Sergeant's EarMiteFree Product - PLEASE whatever you do, DO NOT use this product or any other Sergeant product on your pet. I thought my 2 year old Calico had ear mites so I went to the pet store and bought an $8 bottle of the Sergeant EarMiteFree ear drops. We are about to leave on vacation and I am scheduling a vet appointment for the week we come back from Florida so I thought I would just give her these drops for the time being until we could get to the vet. I figured they probably would not rid her of the mites completely but that they would hold her over until we got home. I thought that, at worst, they would just be ineffective but I was very wrong.
I noticed that my usually loving, LOUD and playful kitty was very aloof, quiet and acting sort of bizarre about an hour after I administered the drops around 4pm. It got worse as the night went on and around midnight I noticed that she was walking strangely and began to panic. I quickly got online and found all these terrible stories about Sergeant products and the harm they've cause so many animals. She would not even let me pick her up and her muscles were kind of twitchy as well as her claws being like permanently extracted at the moment. I called the emergency vet and immediately bathed her with Dawn dish soap. She seemed a little better, but not much - after all, the drops had already been in her ear and on her skin for like 8 hours. The vet said after bathing her to just watch her closely for any seizing, convulsing or foaming at the mouth and if that happened to immediately bring her in. I held her most of the night while she shook in my arms but we never had to go the ER VET.
She is much better today and more like herself but still not 100%. I am so angry with myself for using this dangerous OTC product but so thankful that my Millie didn't die because of it. Please don't use this stuff and if you already have wash it off immediately several times with Dawn soap and get to a vet if there are any convulsions or foaming at the mouth!!!!

Two months ago, my girlfriend and I, along with our two spoiled rotten boy dogs, welcomed a pretty Beagle babe to our family. For her three years before joining us her life was spent merely existing. She wholeheartedly embraced the love we offered her and gave us not only her love in return but her trust. I let my baby girl down yesterday when I treated her with Sergeant's Gold. Watching the allergic reactions she is still having is just awful. The product was only on her for about twenty minutes before I knew she was in distress. Pacing, whining, rubbing herself on the carpet. I did what I should have done BEFORE I put that poison on her. I got online to find out what was wrong, how to help her and why this was happening. I have bathed her repeatedly with Dawn and gave her Benadryl and consulted our vet.
This entire ordeal began nearly twelve hours ago and my poor girl has finally found some relief. As she sleeps next to me, all I can think about is how this could have been avoided. I am responsible for her discomfort because I put my faith in the thought that a company that sells products for pets would be safe, especially since the product was used as directed. But in all actuality, I put poison on my dog and it could have lasting consequences. I am deeply concerned that after all the negative reviews and proof that multiple Sergeant's products are dangerous - even fatal - yet these items are advertised and available for purchase in countless stores. I'm not a big fan of social networking but if I would have looked online instead of at the back of the package then this never would have happened. She is such a sweetheart that I know she will forgive me but I cannot begin to forgive myself or Sergeant's.

I said I do not mind at all and I saw my dog and she was acting very ill and foaming at the mouth. This reaction was within five to ten minutes from application. My groomer hurried up and bathed her thoroughly again and the frothing quickly stopped. I have never seen anything like this. Hey guys, I had a similar experience with Zodiac. It's the flea and tick medicine that you apply to the back of the neck. We've used it faithfully every year to prevent fleas. 2 years ago my smaller gray cat, she was about 8 human years at the time, actually found a way of licking the stuff on her neck. After a few hours she was like everyone else's comments - couldn't walk, foamed LOTS from the mouth, was shaking, her one eye was swollen - double the size and that lasted about a day and she was ok. Anyone whose animal has this problem and it persists until the next day, take your cat in. They're at stupid risk.
Not only does it do all these but they do it on purpose to "prevent" the cats from it. But it has another effect and there's a horrific video floating Facebook of a cat who accidentally ingested some it - causes seizures so violent and intense that all the cat can do and barely do is cry and whine. And they shake uncontrollably until they die or are put down... I'm against the stuff completely. However my mom is faithful with it. But since that day, we make a cone for the day until the stuff evaporates. So if anyone is even thinking of using the back of the neck products remember they have paws they can lick and ingest the stuff still. If you're set on the stuff, please for your animals' sake, please go to the Dollar Store buy some bristol board and make your animal a cone... could you handle seeing not a pet but truly these beings have become family - seizure uncontrollable forever? I really hope my influence helped. Thank you for reading.

I bought Sergeant's Green squeeze on flea and tick killer and was shocked at my cat's reaction. After I applied it, the odor hit me. It was as if I had spilled a gallon of Anbesol on the floor. When my cat licked the application spot, he completely flipped out. He shook his head and fluid flew from his nostrils. He ran away from me as if I had hit him and I couldn't get him to let me pick him up. Immediately, he started foaming at the mouth - HEAVILY- and fluid just poured from his mouth and nostrils. Wiping him with towels didn't get it off and I had to pour Dawn detergent over the spot and wash him until the substance was gone. When I called the company, they told me that this was the reaction that they designed the product to cause, in order to keep cats from licking the application. WTH?? How can a pet care company design a product with the express purpose of causing severe illness in a pet?

I'm feeling like the worst cat mom in the world right now. Since bringing Poe home, I've seen him scratching a lot and I was concerned he still had fleas. On my way home, I stopped at the grocery store and saw this flea powder that was pretty inexpensive (red flag #1) and I didn't think applying a powder would be difficult as it didn't require having to bathe the cat afterwards.
So, I tried it tonight around 6:30pm. Poe was fine during application... The instructions (in smaller print next to the HUGE warnings for contact with humans [red flag #2]) were pretty clear on applying and then brushing the cat to get any of the dead parasites off. I applied some, not as much as maybe you normally would, then brushed him with the Furminator. I didn't notice anything resembling a flea coming off, so I figured maybe it was just dry skin due to the weather. No big deal. I then double check online to make sure I did everything right or if the product even worked (it was $7 after all).
I was horrified. Thousands of complaints that this product caused an adverse reaction in their pets and was killing most of them within 24 hours. What did I just put on my cat?! Panic. Okay, so... what's Poe doing right now? Great, he's cleaning himself. Turn on the light... Within 15 minutes of application, he had broken out in bloody red welts/rashes all over his back and legs. They were pushing up his fur and I could see across the room where on his body they were. I quickly filled the tub up with warm water and as he drew blood from my arms (I deserved it), I scrubbed him down with Dawn dish soap to stop the reaction. I think it managed to stop it from spreading any further. I asked Mark to quickly bring home Benadryl, hoping it was just an allergic reaction. He brought home topical cream, and we tried that on a couple spots before sweet Poe was far too aggravated to hold anymore. Some of the redness had gone away on some of them, but still bleeding on others.
I conceded and brought him in to Tufts by 8pm. I give this cat a good home only to poison him in just over a week. I felt awful, still do. They took him in quickly and came back out and said it was too common how often a reaction like that happens with this product. She sent him home and said to just administer Benadryl in pill form and check in with the regular vet if things don't seem to improve. He's eating, so I won't complain. Right now, he seems to have forgiven me. He's not lethargic, or hiding... so I am hoping the worst is over. Fur kids, I will never do this again. I am so sorry.
*PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS BRAND OR HARTZ BRAND ON YOUR PETS.* Please. Save yourself money and pain in the long run paying for a real flea-killer like Advantage or Frontline. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if I left the powder on and did something else for the day. The picture is after the redness finally subsided. He seems to have stopped licking and I'm watching him like a hawk to make sure he's still eating, drinking and using the litter box.

Husband and I picked up this product to use. I sprayed the one cat per directions. He wasn't happy. Then did the other. This was in the evening. Both went running off twitching after application. When I went to check on them to brush them with the flea comb, the 1st one I sprayed was drooling profusely and acting strange. I was worried. I checked on the other, he was drooling like crazy too. I took wet paper towels and wiped them down - I thought maybe just the taste of it, since cats groom themselves. Today both cats were very quiet, not themselves, then they both were just literally drooling, hyper salivating.
I called the vet and she told me to give them a bath immediately and call the # on the bottle and see what they say... I sat on hold for 10 min and hung up. My cats are still not their normal selves and I will be taking them to the vet tomorrow. I'm so angry I was out most of earlier today so I didn't see their behavior was "not quite right" until a little later. Otherwise they would have been to the vet today. Sergeant's Dual Action Flea & Tick Collar For Small Dogs - My Chihuahua dog had four puppies May 2013. At 13 weeks old, we decided to let them go outside and wanted all the dogs to be protected from fleas. We bought and put the flea collars on all the dogs on a Monday. Wednesday all the dogs were lifeless, wouldn't eat or drink. We took the collars off, bathed all the dogs and took them to the Vet hospital Thursday. Vet checked them out, said their hearts were good, gave them some medicine, and told us to see how all of them would do in the morning.
Friday, next day, two of the puppies were dead. Saturday, we woke up and the father and the other two puppies were laid out in the grass in the backyard. We rushed them to the hospital. Vet stated the flea collars had poisoned the dogs and the chemicals from the flea collars had attacked their nervous system. Sunday, father and the third puppy were dead. Monday, we picked up the last puppy from the hospital because she wasn't doing very well and we wanted her to be with the mother. She died Tuesday. We watched this puppy go through convolutions, no control of her bowels and die in our arms. This company should be out of business. Nothing has been as heartbreaking as this experience. We eventually followed up with Benadryl and have been continuing to give it to him. It's been two full days, and he is still irritated. I fear that the only thing that saved him from worse side effects was getting it off of him within minutes of applying it. I am very upset this can even be put on the market.

Sergeant's Gold 5 way protection squeeze on - On May 19, 2013, I gave our Lhasa Apso an application of this crap! We almost lost her! She kept yelping, scratching at herself and not eating or drinking. She was totally listless and her eyes would roll back; she could not open her eyes much. I took her to the Vet and he told us why. It's now 4 days later and she is getting somewhat better. I hope she has no future effects from this crap!

I am seriously enraged! How is this product still on the shelves? Or better yet, why is this company allowed to endanger our beloved pets' lives with their toxic chemicals?! I gave my dog a dose of this poison unknowingly. My aunt got a bunch of flea medications and I stupidly chose this one. My dog experienced the same odd behavior described in the many complaints about this product. She was restless, coughing, wheezing, and unable to drink water. I immediately searched online for side effects and acted accordingly.
I gave her a bath and scrubbed the area for minutes, rinsing constantly. I knew that the chemicals were already in her system so I acted on instinct and gave her an activated charcoal capsule. I know these are used to treat overdoses and poisoning. She seems to be doing a bit better. It's only been less than two hours. I applied around 2pm and gave her a bath and the pill about 40 minutes ago. So, if you're dealing with this, definitely try activated charcoal pills. I'm seriously enraged at this company. I wish them the worst possible fate! Why are their products still on the shelves? Why are they not taking responsibility for the damage they're causing? This is ridiculous. Animal cruelty at its worst because we are paying for their toxic products and giving them to our pets!

I am so astonished at the vast number of horror stories and complaints about Sergeant's Flea and Tick products. Like everyone else, I can't believe these products are still on the shelves. Also like everyone else, I wouldn't have known about any of these things unless I, too, had a horror story to tell because I just treated my 2 maltipoos with "Sentry Pro XTC" and went to the web for help! On Wednesday night, I treated them because it's that time of year. I had this package from last year that I had gotten on sale and I knew it was still good so I used it. I normally don't use this kind but to save a trip from getting their normal treatment, I took the short-cut. Stupid me! Never again! I should have known when this 1 pkg. was able to treat both dogs that are 10 lbs. and 17 lbs. This was for dogs 9-20 lbs and, with my other flea and tick treatment, I had to buy 2 separate for their weight.
Immediately, after applying, they started to scratch and were acting very irritated. After an hour or so, I decided this was not right and I needed to get them in a bath which I did. The bath didn't help so I had some Benadryl liquid on hand and gave them that. Needless to say, I slept with the smaller dog that night because he was the worst. My daughter took the other dog in with her. It was so sad to see them suffer the way they were. The smaller dog would calm down so long as I had my hand on him that night soothing him. As soon as I took my hand off him, he would get up and start moving around like he was on speed. The following day, I went up to PetSmart to see if there was something I could get them to stop the itching. I purchased some hydrocortisone cream hoping that would help after I bathed them again in Dawn dish detergent. By now, I had read some of the blogs where people called the emergency number on the pkg. they had and were advised to wash their pets with Dawn and apply vitamin E oil. This still wasn't doing any good.
If you think about it, this treatment is no longer topical because it absorbs into the skin and it's now an internal problem. No matter how many baths you do, it's not going to correct the problem, especially if it's an allergic reaction. Someplace I read, it could take anywhere from 24-72 hours before you see them getting relief but I was going into day 3 and nothing has changed. I then went out and purchased Benadryl tablets so I could break them in 1/2 and give each dog a dose. I've been doing the cream and Benadryl for days and I'm writing this Sunday evening. The larger of the 2 dogs is still scratching terribly and the little one has bitten a raw spot in his backside. He has removed the hair and everything. If he keeps going at this rate, he'll have it so raw that it could easily get infected. All along I've tried to avoid a huge vet bill but I may have no choice now. What I do know is if that's the case, Sergeant's is definitely going to reimburse me. I've already written to the EPA who went after them back in 2010 telling them to change their packaging to warn of these possible reactions.
Well, my package has none of the warnings so "What's up there"? I will also be calling Sergeant's tomorrow to make sure they at least have my name and complaint on file and warn them about any bills I incur. While searching the web, I also came across a lawyer that has a class action suit against Sergeant's but it was dated 2010 and asked for people from the NJ area to contact him. Being that it was contacting a lawyer directly, I just got done writing him. Even if the suit isn't open and it's only for NJ residents, I'm sure he could lead me in the right direction as to finding someone to help. I will definitely go after these people. My dogs are my babies and If you're a pet owner, you know how they become part of your family. If they hurt, you hurt. On top of that, you feel so guilty because you're the one that put this crap on them and now they're suffering to the point of some losing their pets altogether. How sad!
I don't know how this is going to turn out for my dogs yet because we're still going through it but I will definitely write on this site again and let you know. Hopefully, I'll also have info on a class action suit if anyone wants to join me. Sergeant's needs to come down and pay for all this heartache they've created to our pets with their crap products!

Our best friend's grandpa passed away and had three dogs. They needed homes so I took them in. I found this product the only spray for ticks and fleas that was in this store. I sprayed it on my dogs last night and this morning, I found one of the dogs dead and one barely alive! Right away I took the one barely alive into the house and gave her a bath to wash her clean, not knowing that it was this spray. About 45 minutes later in my arms she passed away. So I looked at this website and saw other reviews. I could not believe it! My dogs have the same side effects that others have reported! There is one dog left out of the three and she is starting to choke at least once every 30 minutes. I'm doing everything I can to make sure she stays alive!
I feel terrible that I took these dogs in to live the rest of their lives happy, but because I used this Sergeant's Silver product, two are dead! I think this product should be taken off of the shelves, so I called the store that I bought it from. The store manager is going to file a complaint with the company and take the steps in the store to get it removed! I urge everyone to pass the word. You don't know who this may help. Get this crap taken off and save our pets!

Recently I bought a cat toy from the supermarket and played with my cat a little bit with it. About 5-10 minutes after, she began licking her lips excessively and did not stop until she vomited a large amount on the floor. She did not eat any part of the toy; it was still perfectly intact. There was only one other time I saw this lip licking behavior from her, and it was when I had applied Sergeant's supposedly natural flea oil on her. Soon after, she began the lip licking and then started foaming at the mouth. I immediately washed her with dish soap and the problem soon went away. Still I worry about what damage I might have caused her. I really like my cat.
Sergeant's is aware that their products are not safe, and instead of trying to ensure product safety, they are trying to take the easy route and cover it up.

I bought Sergeant's Evolve flea & tick drops for all 6 of my dogs recently and applied the drops as directed to all dogs yesterday afternoon. By early evening, our Pug was becoming agitated, pacing, and unable to stay still for very long. By last night at 11pm, he was panting like he was overheated, choking like there was something in his throat, his body was jerking like he was having spasms, and his head was jerking to one side. This continued all night long. This morning, I got up and put him in a large garden tub of water, washed him twice with baby shampoo, rinsed him well, and he is finally getting back to normal by 4:30 pm, a little over 24 hrs after application. I will not take the chance of using Evolve again, and I truly believe we came close to losing our Pug due to some type of chemical poisoning or reaction.

I bought three of the Sergeant's Double Duty flea and tick collars for cats. I put one on my male cat of 13 years, who weighs about 12 pounds. Within 15 minutes, he became extremely agitated, jumping around, eyes looking wild and disoriented, and he began foaming at the mouth and shaking from head to foot. It was nearly 10PM at night so no vet was open near us. I read reviews and chatted with others to try and get some idea of what to do. I had taken the collar off and most everyone said the same thing (bathe him). We did use Dawn dish soap since it seems most vets recommend it. He gradually calmed down, but remained sickly for several days after.
I cannot begin to put into words just how angry I am that I nearly lost my pet over a flea collar. This collar should not be on the shelves anymore. I will never buy from this company again and will steer friends and family away from this company as well.

She is still not herself and has moments of agitation. It's been 3 days now! I read the reviews on here and called my vet; they recommended what just about everyone on here does, bathe with Dawn. I did that on my lunch break. I hope it's helped some. As for my cats, they are losing their hair! What is this stuff (I have a few choice words I would rather use here but won't)? I'm not too sure what to do to get it off the market, but I'm surely going to check into it. It needs to be discontinued. At the least, put these side effects on the package. I have an 85 lb. yellow lab that is about a year old. I had been using Frontline topical flea and tick treatment with great results. I saw the Sergeant's Evolve 61 on sale, so I gave it a try (not even thinking about "side effects" since that was a non-issue with Frontline products). Within an hour, my normally happy and energetic puppy was flighty, nervous, biting at himself, and generally looking very uncomfortable. I gave him a thorough bath to try and get the Evolve off of him, but his erratic behavior worsened. He got sick twice. He paced the house until the early morning hours, panting the entire time (It's December and 50 degrees). My vet said all I could do was to make him comfortable and wait it out, hoping for the best. I read the box, front to back, and read nothing about the potential side effects. After reading all the reviews here and other places, I, too, wonder why this product is still on the market.

On Saturday, November 24, 2012, I purchased three (3) boxes of SentryPro Flea & Tick squeeze on medicine at the Petsmart store located at 1015 Village Center Drive, Tarentum, PA. It started about an hour after administering it, one of my dogs had three (3) seizures in about an hour's time then threw up. At this point, I knew something was seriously wrong and scrubbed it off of them as best I could. They all either had diarrhea, vomiting or both. My one dog had the most bizarre reaction and the longest. It was like he was on some type of speed. He couldn't sit still and continually whined, scratched and bit at himself. I gave him several baths but only time helped him.
I gave all of them the medicine late Saturday afternoon and my dachshund with the bizarre reaction was not himself until Wednesday morning. I can see maybe a small reaction (scratching, slight irritation) on one or two of my dogs (I have five in all), but for all of them to get sick tells me that the medicine is bad. And, after what I read online, this is something that has been going on for some time. After all of the complaints they no doubt received, they should be a little more concerned about what they offer to customers and a little less about their profit. In the long run, it will end up costing them. How can anyone in good conscience sell this poison? I will no longer purchase anything from Sergeant's.

I woke in the morning and one of my dogs was not in our room (where she usually is). I came up the stairs to find her in the kitchen shaking uncontrollably and uncoordinated in her movements! I immediately took her to the tub and washed her with Dawn twice! I knew I had to get that stuff off of her. I gave her something to eat and drink and watched her closely. She started getting better as soon as I washed that crap off of her. Our other dog had no problems (but I washed her too, just in case).
I noticed the dog that had a reaction. She had a scab on her back near where I would have put the product on. My guess is it went systemic immediately. (I am assuming she had this scab prior and I didn't notice.) Bottom line, this stuff is too dangerous and too commonly causes allergic reactions and adverse reactions in our family pets. Don't use it! We had used Frontline the month prior and I decided to switch to Sergeant's. (What a mistake). We had no problems with Frontline. I’ll start my post from the end since my experience matches the vast majority of the posts on this blog. After 30 hours, my dog was back to normal. He doesn’t have any lasting symptoms from Sergeant’s Evolve. He is back to his normal puppy self. It took 30 hours to work through his system. This was one of the main items I was looking for when I was searching the site in a panic last night. I have a 7-month-old, 50-pound male chocolate lab. I followed the directions on the packaging. Like almost every post on the site, he was extremely anxious and irritated, unable to relax, and was twitching and panted heavily. It was as if he was trying to crawl out of his skin. His eyes were glazed and he had slobber and foam in his mouth. No seizures, though. He also didn’t have any of the skin burns or irritation that I read about on the site, though he didn’t want you to touch him.
We applied Evolve at 5 am. We were gone most of the day, so I can’t say how he reacted. I got a call from the neighbor that the dog was barking. When we got home he was anxious and irritated. He could walk fine. After reading the posts and realizing that reaction was from the Evolve, I immediately washed him (10 pm). I used his normal shampoo, though Dawn seems to be the washing material of choice. I called the ER vet a couple of times and the vet told me to wash him twice with Dawn. She also mentioned that it is in his central nervous system, so it needed to work its way through his system. She said we needed to watch him. And if he had more severe twitching, we would need to bring him in (at which point they would administer an IV). I had read about people using Benadryl and asked the vet. She didn’t recommend - though she didn’t caution against since it was absorbed into his central nervous system already.
The washing calmed his anxiousness considerably, though he was still very agitated. The product was absorbed long ago, but the washing soothed him. I took him for a walk to hopefully metabolize the Evolve more quickly. He was restless through the night and finally settled down to sleep around 3 am. I was amazed at how many recent posts there were and how consistent the messages are: ** is a pretty accurate explaining of the chemical composition and physiological reactions. I haven’t thought through my next course of action yet, but I will take action to remove this product.

The saddest thing about these stories is that pet owners who make the mistake of using Sargeant's Flea & Tick products containing Cyphenothrin usually find this information after their pet has been harmed. The insult becomes worse when you realize that the company continues to use the ingredients, sometimes changing the "brand name" after years and hundreds (if not thousands) of very reproducible complaints.
In my case, I treated our Welsh Corgis with Sargeant's Evolve, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The lucky one just had intense itching on her back for 48 hours after application. Her sister experienced the itching, restlessness, whining, shakiness and a trip to the vet for debridement of her wound near the application site. Where are all the law firms so anxious to sue drug companies when humans may be injured due to dangerous treatments? I would think this would be "easy pickings" for a class action suit and apparently, that is the only thing companies like Sargeant's will understand.

After bathing my 15 lb Chihuahua mix, I used the flea & tick squeeze-on product as directed. I applied the product, starting at the shoulder blades, down mid back and finishing at base of tail. No problem right? Wrong again! Within 30 minutes of having the treatment administered, my dog started shaking his head, scratching and licking at the area administered and would not keep still. He was running through the house as if he was on fire, shaking and rolling around on his back. I immediately knew something was wrong.
I picked my dog and he was shaking uncontrollably. I examined the area where I applied the product and saw that it was extremely red and warm to the touch. I immediately bathed my dog 2 more times and administered some Benadryl. I then called my vet and he said that I had done the right by bathing him to wash off the product and administering the Benadryl. He said that my quick reaction to realizing that my pet was having an allergic reaction saved us from the heartache of watching our pet suffer and possibly death. He strongly advised me not to use the Sergeants Silver Flea & Tick Squeeze-On, as he has seen/heard of many cases of pets being poisoned by this product. He was seen by the vet within a week and was giving more Benadryl, just in case, but was otherwise in good health. Thank God!
It took about 3 days before my dog went back to normal. I went online to see if others had problems with the product and wow! I can't believe this poison is still on the market. I am lucky. I was able to realize there was a serious problem before it became as serious as some of the others I've read. Long story short, do not use this product! I googled possible side effects to flea treatment in general as I normally give the dogs a pill. It said to wash them in dawn and I put them all in the bath and scrubbed them. I called the vet who said to give them benadryl based on their weight. I took them to the vet in the morning. They asked me which brand and I told them, and they said they were the worst!
Two of the dogs got a steroid shot and stayed on benadryl for the weekend and my pom who is diabetic is still really sick. This is day 6 and we were back at the vet today because, in addition to all the side effects of the toxins, his sugar was 450 (it should be no higher than 80) due to all the rapid breathing, rapid heart rate, running, stress, scratching, biting, and lack of sleep causing his body to be in shock. I am still unsure, to be honest, if he is going to be alright. I am terrified. So tonight, like the last week, will be sleepless with the hopes of my animals getting some comfort soon.

I have a 10 year old male boxer who has taken flea and tick medicine from the vet all of his life. I made the mistake of buying this product, instead of paying a little more and getting meds from my vet and my boxer still hasn't recovered from the allergic reaction that started after I put this product on him.
It's been 8 days now! I've taken him to the vet twice already and plan to take him again in the morning. So much for saving a few bucks! My vet bills are still adding up, not to mention how terrible I feel for hurting my dog. This product should not be allowed on the market! Please take a moment and search the internet for complaints on this product. I searched after the reaction started and found tons of complaints just like mine. I will never use anything on my dogs again without doing some research first. Sergeant's Evolve 61 Flea and Tick Squeeze-On, Dog, Over 60-Pound, this product is not safe.

I had used Frontline (for fleas/ticks) from my vet for years and it worked but it was so expensive, so I decided to buy an over-the-counter brand at Walmart - Sergeant’s Gold. Within 1 hour of applying it to my German Shepherd and Border Collie, their skin turned bright pink; they were hyper, drooling, whining, trying to bite the area I had applied it to (between their shoulder blades) - just absolutely uncontrollable. I gave them both baths to remove any of the Sergeant's product from their hair and skin, but apparently what was absorbed into their systems was doing damage.
I had to take them at 10:30 at night to an emergency vet who gave them an antidote shot and prescribed pill to help calm them. He kept them overnight to watch them and I picked them up in the morning with pills to give them for the next 3 days. Cost? $280 ($140 per dog). The vet said they were lucky, because he's seen animals die that had this same product applied to them, especially cats and smaller dogs. He advised me to write to the company and any consumer group I could to get the product removed from the market. Beware of companies that put products like this for sale and have no concerns for your pets, only to make a profit. I was told that Hartz products are also as bad.

Sergeants Evolve Flea & Tick Squeeze-on for Dogs: For many years, I have always used Frontline, but it is expensive, so I thought I would try an over-the-counter product from the supermarket as it was significantly cheaper. I applied this product to my dog last night and about 2 hours later, she was panting and pacing the house in obvious discomfort. I immediately bathed her to get the product off her skin, but another 2 hours later, she was still panting and unable to settle. She kept laying down, getting up, moving, laying down, getting up and at that point, I called the Sergeant's hotline to get some help.
Sergeant's told me to bathe her again, but this time, using dishwashing detergent as it is more effective in removing the oil in which the flea/tick ingredient is suspended. I bathed her again, but we spent a very restless night where she was obviously uncomfortable and anxious. Sergeant's hotline said it could take up to 48 hours for the symptoms to subside. I'm just thankful I got the product off her as quickly as I could. This morning, I searched the internet to see if anyone had experienced this problem and I am horrified by what I have read. Animals have died from using this product and other over-the-counter flea and tick brands. All of these should be banned from the market. I urge every pet owner to spend the extra money on veterinary-prescribed products.

I bought this product for my dog hoping to deter ticks and fleas. Within an hour of the application, he was barking uncontrollably and behaving oddly. As time went on, he continued to bark, whine, and twitch. He was acting odd. I knew something was wrong. The only relief I could provide him was to scratch him. Needless to say, it was a very long night. Finally, after about 10 hours of this he was able to sleep. I will never buy this product again.

I bathed him twice. The only thing that remotely soothes him is when I scratch/rub his back and hind end. I've been doing that for hours and we both are exhausted. Not sure if I'm going to get any sleep tonight. With all these former posts, I wish I had seen them earlier and I cannot fathom why this product is still allowed for sale. If you love your pet, do not use Sergeant’s Gold Flea & Tick products. I followed directions on box for the dog with proper weight recommendation. Immediately, dog started jetting across room, yelping, panting and seemed in pain. I called a vet, who recommended washing it off. Next morning, the dog had lost hair and had burn marks from back to shoulders.
I went to the vet’s office. The vet treated with antibiotics and steroids for several visits. Dog never had health issues of any kind before Sergeant’s. Within a year, dog developed Cushing’s disease, Liver Cancer and Heart Murmur. Oncologist vet said it was type of cancer from environmental cause. Thanks to Care Credit and over $5,000 in debts, dog is still alive after 2 years of constant treatments, but now in poor health.
Coincidence, not hardly! Our 2nd dog had same Sergeants product for dog's weight at same time. Yesterday, I just had a tumor removed from my 2nd dog! Pray for my dogs and I'll pray for yours, but never, ever use this product on any animals! Corporate giants don’t care if you spend thousands on treatments. It keeps vets in business and corporations make huge profit and sell more pet insurance. The money flows through the pipeline. Don't buy this product.

I applied SentryPro to my dog (lab/collie mix) and she started to experience an allergic reaction, or that's what I thought. I called the emergency number in the box and I called animal poison control. I did what I was told (bathe her with Dawn, topical vitamin E and Benadryl). We had a horrible night. My dog was running all over the apartment, crying and trying to come out of the skin (is the best way I can describe it). She was hitting every single wall, like she was suicidal. Today is day 6; her body is full of bumps and inflamed. In the emergency number, they tell me that I'm overreacting and it’s just an irritation. I got so desperate that I went to different vets even though the emergency line told me it wasn't necessary. Finally, I found a doctor that helped me to keep her calm. Her skin looks terrible. We will see if it gets better and we finally get some sleep.

We just purchased yesterday. I found a tick on my Border Collie, Callie. Thought we would give it a try. Boy that was a "big mistake". I applied just like the directions said and I noticed approx. an hour later, she started scratching, acting stir crazy. She was wining, foaming at the mouth and vomiting. She had a temp and could not stand up very well and kept slamming her head on the ground like she could not hold it up. I gave her a bath immediately and shortly after that. She has been eating anything she can, unlike herself. I have an appointment at the vet in the morning if I can wait that long.
She is still not feeling well and is far from her norm. I stayed up with her all night and have been nursing her all day. I also can't get the taste out of my mouth and have a terrible headache now for about 10 hours. My eyes have been itchy and they burn periodically. I know my dog was and is worse off than myself. This product should be taken off the market and they should be sued for putting our pets and owners through the pain and suffering that this product is causing!

My cat hadn't had any flea or tic medicine in a while so I decided to use the Sergeant’s flea and tick medicine that I purchased a while ago. My cat ears keep twitching and he keeps licking his paws and going over his ears. I followed the directions, applying it to the back of the head to the shoulders.
So I immediately got on the internet to see what the reactions were and I saw all of these consumer complaints. I washed him off with dawn, like a couple of people mentioned but he was still acting crazy. So I purchased a cat shampoo and gave him a bath. Although, he wasn't keen on the water, his fur looks much nicer than what the flea and tick medicine did to it. My cat is eating and drinking but the other signs are really making me worry. I can't afford the vet bill and I don't know what to do. He's so unhappy and unmotivated. My cat is usually mischievous and loving at the same time. I applied Sergeant's Flea & Tick Squeeze-On for dogs (33lbs and under) to my 12 lb chihuahua 'Obi'. The following day in the evening when I returned home from work, my usual happy and boisterous dog did not come running to great me and slowly stumbled towards the door, tail down and trembling. He trembled and had difficulty moving for most of the night and his breathing seemed strained. We were very worried about him and I thought nothing at all about the product we had applied to him--why should I--you expect products for dogs to be safe to dogs, right?
My first thought was maybe he had Lyme disease. In the morning I took him to the vet who took an x-ray which cost $105. It revealed that he could be experiencing pain from calcification around a couple vertebrae. But she wasn't fully sure that explained the dogs symptoms. So we had a complete 'tick disease' blood work sample taken for $185 and she prescribed some anti-inflammatory meds for my dog. I brought him home after and went out to work. When I got home in the evening he still seemed lethargic.
I let him outside on the grass and he hunkered down on all fours, crawled forward on his belly like a snake, pulling with his front paws, then fell on his side and started scooting around. He was like a zombie. It was very scary and I immediately called the vet and zoomed back over with the dog before they closed at 6pm. When I showed him to the vet he was back to normal! I couldn't believe it, it was like he was faking or something. I explained that this was crazy, he was a spasmodic mess 20 minutes before and then he looked fine. She had asked in the morning on the first visit what sort of tick spray or gel I had used and I said I wasn't sure, I just got it at the local Von's Supermarket.
The vet told me it sounded like my dog had a seizure or muscle spasms and that some cheap brands use something called 'pyrethins or permethrin (which I learned is a synthetic form of pyrethins that is more potent and potentially harmful). She told me to go home and wash the tick medication off completely using 'Dawn' dishwashing soap! I used that exact brand and washed him twice and rinsed him very well. Then I looked at the product I used from Sergeant's and right on the front it listed the ingredients--Permethrin 45%!
This product caused a severe reaction in my dog and scared the hell out of me and ended up costing me $327.31 in a veterinary bill that was unwarranted. This product is not safe and you would be a fool to apply it to your beloved pet! I can't believe Sergeant's sells this product! This company should pay my dog's bill.

My husband and I own a 1-year old lab/German Shepherd mix dog named Kajal. We have been applying Tick & Flea treatment on her for the last 4 months, once a month, and never had an adverse reaction. On Monday Nov 14, 2011, I applied the Sergeant's Evolve Squeeze On 61 product number: 02904 on the dog's back as I usually do. It was the first time I was using Sergeant's product brand. Within 1 hour of application, the dog started scratching herself desperately and non-stop. Her nose started running and her temperature started fluctuating from hot to cold back and forth. Within 4 hours she started twitching and going through spams that looked like seizures. She lost balance in her head and started walking with her head falling on the floor. She would lay down and suddenly twitch without apparent cause and cry incessantly. She had lost all visual focus and could not follow any direction.
When we took her to the vet, the doctor looked in both ears and did not find any insects or external objects that may be hurting her ears/head, it was obvious she had an allergic reaction to the toxic ingredients in Sergeant's product. She had to be given general anesthesia and was unconscious for 3 hours while her system was decompressed. We paid hundreds of dollars at the vet's office to have her treated, my husband missed an entire day of work to monitor her at home, not counting her pain and suffering and ours. I, being the person who gave her the treatment, spent the entire night with a burning sensation in my eyes, lips, and nose and even after several attempts to wash my face with water and soap the burning sensation did not cease for almost 48 hours. It took several doses of antihistamines to make me feel better.
Two days later, my pet was still scratching herself even after bathing her several times with water and soap to take all the product off, and her eyes were as irritated as on the first day, she was on prescription medication for the rest of the week. I demanded a refund from Sergeants plus compensation for our pain and suffering and all they offered was a mere $74 and tried to blame the allergic reaction on an ear infection even after the vet report clearly showed that the dogs ear tests had come back negative! Sergeant's almost killed my dog and their products should be recalled. Please do not use any of their products, go online and do your research. You'll find hundreds of similar reports out there about intoxicated pets due to Sergeant's pet products.

They only last for about 10 seconds and it mostly happened when there was a loud noise or a flash of light.
At 2 o' clock the next morning I woke to the sound of her yelping. When I turned the light on and walked over to her cage she was having a severe seizure and was convulsing all over. She was foaming at the mouth and she was very stiff. It lasted for about 15 seconds. When it stopped, she started to bark and growl. The next day she was fine until that evening. Within an hour after application, my 4-year old male tabby began acting very bizarre. His eyes were glassy. He seemed confused and he began twitching. His hind legs would shoot out behind him, shaking uncontrollably and he began biting at and licking his paws. He immediately stopped eating and drinking. He normally sleeps with me every night but that night, he seemed unable to sit still and was up and down all night. He ran from everything and everyone. I began to wonder if he was having a bad reaction to the flea treatment so I went on an internet search. I was shocked to find all the instances of similar problems with Sargeant's.
I gave my boy two baths with dishwashing liquid per suggestions by a number of people. Today, he's eating again. Most of the twitching has stopped and he seems to be doing much better. I had recently taken all three of my cats (ages 10, 4, and 1) to the vet for an unrelated issue. Because you can never tell how recently/thoroughly the examining room has been cleaned, I decided to buy some flea medication and treat all three of them prophylactically. Because they are indoor cats, and I was using the product in a precautionary sense (rather than to treat an existing problem), I figured a basic brand from Krogers would do the trick. That brand was Sergeant's Gold. The box held three vials, so I put one on each cat--between their shoulder blades, as directed. Luckily, the two older cats have had no adverse reactions. Their fur was ridiculously oily for a while, but I figured that was to be expected from a cheap brand of flea medication.
My "little man" has been less fortunate. About two weeks after the application, my husband and I noticed a penny-size bald spot on my youngest cat. We took him to the vet, who suspected an allergic reaction and gave him a cortisone shot. A week later, one bald spot had turned into 5, two of which also included bloody gashes where, I assume, my cat had scratched himself from over-itching. I took him back to the vet, and he got a second, full strength cortisone shot as well as a cortisone cream with anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. I put the cream on him for a week, as directed. As of Monday of this week (the day after I completed the cream regimen), three of the five bald spots--including the two gashes--were not materially worse, but the two largest bald spots had grown exponentially larger.
At this point, my delightful little cat has a four-inch wide bald area that almost completely covers the top arc of his neck and head area. I took him to the vet again today, and she seemed honestly mystified that anything could cause such a serious allergic reaction and such complete hair loss. I've now been referred to a dermatologist for him, but my vet suspects the damage to the hair follicles has already been done--so I can only focus on trying to help him grow his fur back.
Having read the other complaints on this site, I'm grateful beyond words that my youngest cat has only lost his fur. But I'm certainly not thrilled that I've spent over $600 responding to this problem (and I'm not done yet--I don't imagine the dermatologist will be cheap), and that my young, perpetually cheerful little guy has lost his hair and literally scratched himself bloody. At this point, I just hope his fur grows back--and that Sergeant's either reformulates its product or else removes it from shelves.

To begin, I selected 1 star for a rating because I had no other choice but to select a rating. As far as I'm concerned, my choice is absolutely "zero". We applied Sergeant's Silver Flea & Tick liquid drops for the first time on our 4 1/2 year old cat last night after bathing and grooming her. We usually have her bathed and groomed at PetCo. Due to our busy schedules lately, we decided to bath and groom our cat ourselves. This was our first time ever applying a flea product besides a flea collar which our cat has never liked around her neck. So we decided to try Sergeant's.
Consequently, when I came home from work very tired this evening, the first thing I noticed was my cat acting rather strange. Her hair looked like a porcupine & very oily looking. She's twitching, hiding under the tables and running from us. She's very quiet and acting very weird. She's also trying to lick the product off of the top of her upper mid neck line by wetting her paws and wiping her hair line constantly. I googled a search for reviews about Sergeant's Flea product and I'm in total awe! This is over the top & quite scary! I read one review which stated to use Dawn liquid soap to remove the product. I just tried the method and currently awaiting results. If I don't see any changes I will consult our Vet.
Never say never, but I can reassure I will never, ever use this product on my cat again! My cat is like my child, whom I love very much. The maker of this product should surely be happy I'm unable to converse with them directly because they wouldn't like what I have to convey right now. If anything happens to my (baby) cat I will definitely consult the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) & a pet attorney. I will opine my last words about Sergeant's product; Animal activists should be totally aware of this insidious product & it's heartfelt reviews. Does the maker of this product really care about animal welfare! Really? If so, why is this product still being sold?

Tonight he is again walking sideways, crying and itching. When we called the 1-800 number for Sergeant's, they stated that they had not heard of such a thing (the walking sideways) and it may be something else. How is that possible, from a normal and playful puppy to an anxious, crying and walking sideways poor little guy? We are giving Benadryl and bathing in Dawn dish soap. On Sunday afternoon at about 2:00 P.M., I bought Sergeants Flea and Tick Drops for my three cats. A few hours later my youngest cat was not acting right and was walking funny and off balance. I found the other two cats and my beloved Oreo was lying on the floor convulsing nonstop, foaming at the mouth, and having massive seizures lasting up to 5-10 minutes. I quickly tried to wash the product off and wrapped him up. In the meantime my daughter tried to wash the product off the other two cats (Sassy and Ace) with a wet cloth with Dawn dish soap. Before we were able to get Oreo out of the house and to the vet, he died in my arms.
I called the vet and was informed that the product was a mixture of nerve gas and poison. I thought the other two cats were going to be fine so we settled out for the night and I dosed off on the couch. I woke up about an hour later, and Sassy was lying on the floor, foaming at the mouth, convulsing, sneezing and crying. Although it was not as severe as Oreo’s was, it progressively got worse by the minute. She then began having seizures. I was able to get her to drink milk and water to flush the poison product out of her. I was so scared that she was going to die too. Thankfully she started improving over the hours, and I think she’s going to make it.
The baby, Ace, also improved over the hours with eating food and drinking fluids. I cannot believe that this product is available and on the shelves for people to buy. My cat suffered a horrible death and I am devastated about the loss. He was like a child to me and now he is gone. I purchased and used the Sergeant's Evolve 61 on my 122 lb malamute and within 2 hours he was pacing and panting very heavy and trying to lick and bite the area where the product was applied. He has been pacing now for almost 24 hours and I am worried about exhaustion at this point. I contacted Sergeant's and they gave me the Dawn dishwashing liquid speech and a case number. This is a very bad product.

My boyfriend applied Sergeant's Gold Flea and Tick on our dog. Within a half hour, she was rolling around on the floor, crying,
This went on all night and the next morning, I brought her to the animal emergency room. I washed her with Dawn, but it was probably too late and I brought her back there 2 more times. That night she was at death's door.
I don't know how she survived, she was so sick, breathing so rapidly and she couldn't even hold her head up. She never really recovered and her body broke down and she is now dead. We are devastated by this loss.

I recently purchased Sergeant's Gold Flea/Tick Medicine, 3 boxes. I applied it on my 3 dogs: a German Shep, (2-years-old), Rott Mix (3-years-old), and a Chihuahua Claude (1-year-old). Within about 15min my chihuahua began acting strange whimpering and laying. It is not usual as his breed is intense with energy.
I sat with him and noticed the pile of white foam under his mouth. He began blowing bubbles from his mouth and dry heaving following that. He began vomiting a frothy thick foam; denser then 10minutes before. I immediately thought allergic reaction and began a bath for him. In the 5-10minutes of preparing a bath and getting supplies his back had wrenched to the left side and he seemed off balance. Quickly I washed him and wrapped him up. I started down stairs to call the vet. When I heard gagging, immediately my heart sank.
I flew down the stairs to find my Rott mix was also foaming at the mouth, on her side, panting like we just did a run! This couldn't be an allergy. They were showing the same signs! I laid Roscoe down and grabbed Suri up. She was on fire! She was also washed in a hurry, mouth frothy and outlined in a thick foam, shaking out of control with muscle spasms. I seriously believed my beloved Suri was dying in front of me because she didn't seem to be breathing correctly as well.
I contacted our vet right away after washing (Sunday evening) and was informed this medicine is basically poison containing elements of nerve gas! I poisoned the loves of my life! Suri and Roscoe both received emergency medical treatment. I had my German Shep flushed as well just to ensure every drop of this vile poison was removed from my pet's! My German Shepherd, at the time of the incident, was also washed although she showed no signs. I wasn't going to wait for them.
The time between applying and washing off was about 25-30min. In that 1/2 hr, my world was turned upside down. My emergency finances was drained $1,078 later. How can this be available? I contacted Sergeants' customer service and was informed they've never heard of these symptoms and asked me to check my yard for something they ate! Are you kidding!
I am so outraged at the thought of another animal getting sick and the owner's fear of losing their beloved pet(s). This needs to be removed from stores now!

I can't believe all the reviews I have just read. I also had the same experience with the flea and tick product. I used it on my Maltese and she had all the same reactions. I had to take her to the vet and they gave her allergic reaction medicine. I wrote a letter of complaint and told them they need to take their product off the shelves. They sent me a letter back and said that it was an isolated incident. They were sorry for my inconvenience but would be doing nothing to change their product. I think I still have the letter from them. With all these complaints, I cant believe there isn't a law suit taking place and if there is, I would like to be a part of it.

We have a small dog (under 15 lbs.). We applied the Sergeant's flea and tick squeeze on him. Within 1 hour, he was scratching at his ears. I thought he had a bug in his ears. However, my husband realized that he was scratching only a few minutes after the flea medicine was applied. He had been shaking his head and scratching his right ear for 2 days. We looked on the internet and found many people that have the same experiences. We have been bathing out our dog with oatmeal shampoo and dish soap to get rid of the "medicine". Do not use this flea medicine. It will make your dog sick and possibly die.

I found my cat itching and when I checked her, she had fleas. I ran to target and purchased Sergeant's Gold Flea and Tick Spray. I wet her coat and sprayed as I combed through her coat and removed the fleas. About a half hour in, she started foaming from her mouth; it was like she was choking. I thought maybe one of the times she got loose from my grip that she licked herself and got soap on her tongue, but as I read the complaints, I now know that it was the spray. At night, she is always calm but that night she was jumping around, making noise, not acting as her normal self. I wasn't able to sleep because I was worried for her. This product is terrible. Not only do we have to deal with the flea problem, but also companies selling poison. I will let Target know about this product that I rated 0!

I used this product on my cats and they immediately started sneezing continuously. The next morning, all 5 of them were still sneezing and coughing a weird cough. One of them was breathing funny. I got on the Internet to search and see if it has something to do with the spray since it started as soon as I used it. Sure enough, I saw dozens of stories of animals being poisoned by this and other products made by Sergeant's. In the stories, it was said to wash your pets in dish detergent. I immediately washed all my cats. That was an hour ago. So far, there has been no more sneezing or coughing. Their breathing has returned to normal. With so many complaints, why is this product still on the market? I was lucky--or at least, so far. These products need to be removed from the market. The next person may not be as lucky as others before them. More people are going to lose their beloved pets.

I put their Flea and Tick Squeeze on my dog K-C (4-year old Cavalier Spaniel). After about an hour, he began to rub against the furniture and was going to his bed and sleeping more than usual. This morning (24 hours), he started yelping and acting erratic again rubbing himself on furniture. I called the emergency number written on the package. The lady told me to wash K-C three times with Dawn Dish Detergent on the line down his back where the flea squeeze was placed. She also said to rub mineral oil or Vitamin E onto the same area, and to apply ice packs to try and completely remove the oil based flea ointment. She then gave me a case number. I went online and read some of the reviews on the same product and was shocked at so many with the same problem reaction with their dog. I purchased the product at Safeway and will certainly take it back ($15.99). I will go back to natural medicine for my dog from now on. I'm surprised that Safeway hasn't heard of the danger of the product.

My little sister and I own two young cats, mine being bought from a cat shelter. She is 6 months old and 7 lbs. Her name is Jynx. And she has a long orange hair. My little sister's cat is 9 months old. He is a male orange tiger strip and 8 lbs. After giving the two cats the treatment, I noticed my cats everywhere, blinking uncontrollably. After a while, she started to shake and unable to walk in a straight line. After that, I wrapped her up in a blanket and laid with her. Then, her mouth and eyes were wide open. Dilated foam started coming from her mouth. I called my mom. Then, I got scared and asked what to do. I washed her off and laid her down. She got worse as the minutes went by. I had to go find my sister's cat. And he was not showing anything at that point. I then washed him off. And after that, I noticed he was laying down lopsided and hiding under the bed.
At that moment, I called for help. My boyfriend then came over and was watching over my cat. She was shaking really bad and couldn't keep her mouth closed. At that point, she started choking on her tongue. When my mom arrived, she instantly washed both cats down. And 3 hours after I had applied it, I rushed them to the vets. They still remain alive at the vets. My cat began to vomit and then was sedated to calm her down. And overnight, she has just lowered down to a few tremors and has started to eat a little. My sister's cat has gotten a little worse overnight. He has been sedated to keep him from shaking and to stay out of the pain. They will remain there till they are okay to leave. I pray that they will get better. They are amazing cats and I love them so much.

I purchased Sergeant's Flea and Tick for chihuahua/dachshund mix. Within a couple of hours, he was drooling profusely and had lost control of his hindquarters. I took him to the emergency vet where he received some anti nausea medicines. I couldn't afford to leave him overnight. The drooling seems better now (12 hours later) but he still doesn't have full control of his rear legs. He will fall asleep and then wake up as if he is trying to get away from something. The emergency vet said that they see pets poisoned by Sergeant's all the time. If a product is sold at a major retailer without warnings, it is assumed to be safe. This is not the case.
I have a vet bill I can't afford to pay and I think I may have inadvertently got some of the flea poison on my face in the rush to the vet. My face is numb and tingling as well as my eyes burning. I was up all night with my three dogs as a result of toxic poisoning from Sergeant's flea and tick medicine I applied to their backs. I usually use Frontline but decided to use this brand because it was cheaper. Bad decision! Within 2 hours, Jazz, the Maltese, became real restless, jerking, scratching. Just acting weird. I didn't pay much attention to his behavior, I just figured he didn't like having that oil down his back. Anyhow, we went to bed (yes, he sleeps with me) and Jazz would not be still. I reached for him and discovered his mouth and neck area was soak and wet (like he was lapping up water. He was drooling and foaming from the mouth). I immediately knew what was happening.
About 4 or 5 years ago, I had placed a Hartz's flea and tick collar on Lady, my schnauzer, the same thing happened... but worse. She became lethargic, started dragging her hind legs and by the next day, she could not walk at all and she would whine when you touched her (muscle failure). Took her to Vet, and as soon as he saw her, he said, "It's the collar". He said many dogs (and cats) have died as a result of these toxic treatments. Within 2 hours of removing the collar, she started to come around. Since I knew what was happening, I remembered what to do: wash with Dawn soap and give Benadryl for itching. I then noticed that Lady, the schnauzer, was having the same symptoms!
Alex bathed her then we checked Dixie, the bulldog...same thing! We bathed all 3 of them twice but no relief. I felt so bad for them. They trusted me, and I gave them toxins that could have killed them. They were miserable the whole night! Needless to say, I didn't get any sleep. Jazz and Dixie appear to be doing better this morning but still itching a lot...more Benadryl today. Lady is still very lethargic and hiding under my bed. Thank goodness I acted quickly! Today, I have been doing research online. There are hundreds of similar stories! Many of them ending in the death of the animal: (Please, please...do not apply any Hart'z or Sergeant's flea and tick products on your pets! I cannot believe these products are still on the market!.

I ordered for Sergeant's Evolve Flea and Tick Drops last night to my dogs. I have two pit bulls who are 5 months old. I bought it because the store didn't have our normal Frontline, and I thought the company name and products were reputable. Within an hour of applying the product both of my dogs were acting weird and whining. This got worse as the night progressed, they didn't sleep and neither did I. They whined, cried, scratched and twitched all night long and into the morning. When I let them out of their pens, they ran around the house rolling around on the floor whining and crying, rubbing up against anything they could find, knocking over chairs and just being very odd.
I did some research and found that there are thousands of complaints about this product. I wish I knew this before the purchase as I would never have bought it. I bathed the dogs immediately, first thing in the morning after reading about the deaths of other dogs. They only had it on for about 7 hours total and they seem a little better. The scratching has subsided and they're actually asleep now. As they're sleeping, they're twitching though. I'm hoping I got to them early enough that no severe damage has occurred to them. I will never buy another Sergeant's product for my pets again, and I will gladly tell others to stay away. I also bought the Sergeant's gold for my cats, but I'm afraid to use it on them. I already opened the box, so I can't return it to the store. So basically, I'm out from the cost of both boxes now. What a waste. Why won't they take these products off of the shelves if they know of these problems?
So far no damage to my pets. It's early though, and I hope they're going to be ok. I think I got it all washed off early enough that it won't cause any damage to them, but only time will tell really. My smaller dog does seem to have an irritation on her back, it feels matted and hard. The only economic damage is that I'm out the cost of two boxes of their product since I'm not going to use it on my cats now after reading about and then seeing the reactions in my dogs.
