I have fed this food to my dogs since it first came out. About 6 years I think. We have Show Dogs and Rescue and boarding dogs. Some times a total of 45 or more dogs at a time. I have NEVER had a problem with the Salmon and Sweet Potato food. I have been ib dogs for over 35 years and find this to be the BEST DOG FOOD EVER.
I would suggest the one's having a problem investigate and see what the problem really is. What do you think is in the food that caused your problem??? I have heard no answers to that yet. There are many things that could have gotten your dogs sick not just the food. So now I'll crawl back in my corner and see what happens since I just started a new batch of food. We get 10 to 20 bags at a time. Good luck to me and all of you. lol.

I have a 3 year old german shepherd mix and she is about 75 pounds. She has been eating Nature's Domain for about the last year. We give her the yellow and blue bag mixed. Starting a several months back she started to act different... a bit withdrawn and lethargic; not herself. She used to eat a lot and now she only eats about 2 cups of food in a 24 hour period. I took her to the vet last week to see what's going on and they did blood work. Her blood work came back completely clear however I am still suspicious that there is something going on. I never thought that it could be her food but the more and more I read the reviews on Consumer Affairs, I am beginning to think that her behavioral changes are due to the food. I will be switch her to a different brand immediately.

I have been reading the reviews of the Kirkland Grain Free foods and I am very upset. We had been giving our yellow lab the food for a few years now. We thought we were doing the right thing because it was grain free and chicken meal free. Just after Thanksgiving he started to display the same symptoms that some of the other users had described: lethargic, not eating, and shivering. He even vomited once. I took him to the vet after a few days because he started to limp as well. They did blood work and x-rays the only thing they told me was he had arthritis which did not explain the lethargy and not eating as he only had started limping that morning but he had the other symptoms for 5 days.
We initially thought perhaps he had eaten too much on Thanksgiving but when he started to limp, I got concerned. $600 later, the vet gave me pain medication and said he should feel better in a few days. After a few days he stopped limping but was still not eating, lethargic and wandering around the house like he was lost. We offered him other types of food and he would eat very little. After another week he had had a seizure which was not alarming because he was epileptic, which we managed with medication. After that he could not walk so we sought another opinion which we were told he likely had a herniated disc which was keeping him from moving his hind legs. We treated him with medication. He improved a little but still was not eating.
At this point the focus was not on the lethargy and other symptoms because of his inability to walk. We continued to treat him with medication and last week he passed away. During lunch when I went home to check on him he seemed fine then when returned from dinner he was breathing funny then he passed that night. This was alarming to me because besides not being able to walk he checked out as a healthy dog. Had I seen these reviews a few weeks ago I would have had our vet focus on the other symptoms as described by the other reviewers because a herniated disc does not cause a dog to pass away. I would like to see someone from Costco or the maker of this dog food step forward and look into all of the reported illness to our pets by consuming this food.

I've been feeding our 5 dogs, daughter's little dog and raise my Labrador Retriever litter of pups on Nature's Domain Salmon Kibble for the past 5 yrs. Their stools have always been firm and digestive tract very healthy, so when I read all these negative reviews on Kirkland dog and cat food products, I was shocked. I'll continue to feed my dogs Nature's Domain Salmon and switch to Beef Formula every few months. When you dog and cat owners change your pet food to a new food, you really need to switch over slowly so you don't upset their sensitive GI tracts.

I fed my dog Kirkland Chicken & Rice for months without issue. Then around August 2014, I noticed my dog was having diarrhea all the time. He started puking occasionally too. I eliminated everything from his diet except the Kirkland and the diarrhea continued to worsen. I switched brands immediately after and he got better. It's my suspicion that the formula changed a while ago and cheap Chinese ingredients and chemicals are being used. The recent surge in sick dogs seems to confirm this. Would advise anyone to STAYING AWAY from this food. It used to be really good, but now I wouldn't feed it to any dog.

I used to purchase Costco’s grain-free dog food for a long time. At some point about one or two years ago, I noticed changes in my dogs that I did not like, so I switched to another brand of grain-free dog food. I did purchase a bag of Costco’s the other day to save money, and noticed a huge increase in poop that continued, as well as yeast infections in the ears. After 2 weeks, I gave the bag away, in spite of being financially strapped. I dearly hope there will not be any lasting issues. I know of two other parties' dogs who recently experienced severe problems with diarrhea and vomiting from using this food. They both took their dog to their vets, who ran expensive tests and could not conclude anything.

I'm kind of freaking out as I read these reviews. I've always fed Kirkland Brand dog food to my three dogs and about three weeks ago, my five year old Miniature Schnauzer Lucy began exhibiting the symptoms of one of the dogs in another review above. We had put all three dogs outside and when I went to let them in about 20 minutes later, Lucy didn't come. She was just laying on the patio looking at me and couldn't move. I tried to get her stand up, to no avail, and rushed her to the emergency vet since it was close to midnight. She was also ice cold and her gums were white. They ruled out that she had eaten rat poison or something like that because her blood was clotting within normal range.
After an ultrasound it was confirmed that she was bleeding at a massive rate internally from a rupture in her spleen, most likely due to cancer. At that point, which was about an hour into the nightmare, she was struggling fiercely for breath and we made the horrific and heart breaking decision to put her to sleep. So, as horrible as this was, we assumed it was just a tragic, one in a million, thing that happened and mourned her loss. BUT HERE'S THE CLINCHER! Within a week of Lucy's passing, we noticed a suspicious lump on the jaw of our Giant Schnauzer Guinness who is only 4 years old! He just had surgery to have it removed yesterday and it appears to be cancerous. We will get the biopsy results in about 5 days.
NOTE: We are talking about 4 and 5 year old dogs! This is nuts! My immediate response and instinct was that it is happening from the food and I went out and bought all natural, USA made dog food from a specialty pet store and now I'm reading all these similar stories from problems that seem to be linked to the dog's food. I'm so sorry for anyone who has lost a pet or watched them suffer and I hope we can get to the bottom of this horrendous problem.

We started feeding our two dogs Kirkland dog food. The first bag seemed good. The second bag we fed them a few days and they started throwing up, having diarrhea laced with blood. We took them to a veterinarian and they sent us to Loomis Vet Hospital. They were put on IV and antibiotics. It was over $2,000.00. The doctor said she wanted us to get the dog food tested. I went to Costco with a bag of the food with all the label info. I got a call from Costco administration and they wanted more info on the dog food bag. I took multiple pictures and sent the information. I got a call and they said they couldn't find anything wrong, they were sorry for the experience, and sent me a Costco gift card. We are so glad our dogs didn't die. We will never buy Costco dog food again.

For economic reasons we changed to Kirkland a couple of months ago. Our Sheltie is 15 years old and has been in good health all these years. We have lived in several countries and Jamie has had many different dry dog food without any problems. After starting the Kirkland product Jamie started having symptoms which we put down to age; defecating in the house, losing weight, loose runny stools, vomiting, drinking lots of water. Clearly this make of food is unhealthy and should be withdrawn from the market.

After feeding Nature's Domain for the past two years I have notice the stool is different and about every other bag I had some bouts of extreme loose stool and some vomiting. It took me to find this site that the food may be the problem and I should mention that I used all three flavors. I switched last week off this food and it took three days for the stools to look normal. I now have 1/3 the stool volume and not loose stools and now my dogs can start gaining some of the luster and weight back. I noticed on the Nature's that I had to feed more to keep the weight on. I will never feed or trust the Costco food again. They are show dogs, but first they are my family. I had been to the vet several times and it took this site to tell me what was wrong with my kids. I have hundreds of receipts I can show. Thank you for this site.

It's so sad to read these reviews about all the sick dogs that have died. I would be devastated. I can't help but think what else did all these cases have in common? Were they all eating the same treats? Or did their bags of food all come from the same batch? Hard to believe that since all were from all different areas of the country. Either way this is something I will be on the lookout for with my girls & may make me look for a new food for them. My condolences to everyone who lost their friends.

We have two dogs, a 2 year old Boxer and 7 year old miniature Dachshund. They had both been raised on Purina Dog Chow - no problems. They began to gain too much weight and was advised to put them on a little diet. Our daughter used Kirkland for her 2 Boxers, and suggested we try it. She even went to Costco’s, bought some for us, 2 thirty-five pound bags of the Kirkland's Nature's Domain - Beef Meal and Sweet Potato flavor. We mixed it with some Purina to ease the transition of changing food brands. We did this for a couple of days. After these couple days we gave them the Kirkland.
The Boxer began vomiting large amounts shortly after eating. She done this three days. The only difference in her diet was the Kirkland. The Dachshund developed a little diarrhea. We immediately stopped the Kirkland and went back to the Purina brand. Thankfully both dogs seem to be improving. Since we do not have a Costco Store near us, I will likely be throwing the remaining 30 pounds of the opened bag away. Will have to figure out what to do with 35 pound unopened bag.

I just recently out two and two together after reading these reviews. Me and a friend mutually owned a seven month old kitten who died very suddenly about two months after we got him, right around summer 2014. He was eating Costco Kirkland's brand food and was always kinda sickly, and eventually stopped eating and pooping. So we took him to the vet thinking that he swallowed something foreign. After taking medicine and showing improvement (I.e eating the food and starting to drink water again), we came home from shopping to find my poor kitten screaming and his back legs weren't working. After rushing him to the vet we found out it was saddle thrombosis but the vet informed us she had never seen a cat so young with it. 800 dollars later and two days of painfully fighting for his life later and we had to put our sweet baby down.
Now I'm not going to say that this food outright caused him to die, because we were informed it was dehydration that caused the thrombosis, but I am more than certain that the cause of his initial illness that made him too sick to drink water was because he ingested this food! It's no use using what ifs, but with the info I have now I wish I could go back in time because I would have never let him touch this garbage, and he wouldn't have gotten sick and been able to live put his kitty life. At least I have the closure I so desperately needed because before this I had no idea why my baby got so sick and died. It was horrible watching my KITTEN suffer like that.

I spent thousands trying to save him but nothing worked and nothing on ANY test showed up as being wrong with him. He had bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and lethargy to the point that we thought he'd had a stroke. The vet finally convinced me that he was in too much pain and I held him while they put him to sleep. We fed him Kirkland's Turkey & sweet potato formula and now I'm reading this and it's all coming together... My poor baby.

I have never had any issues with the Kirkland Signature Lamb and Rice or Nature's Domain products. I have several dogs, and feed both foods. Almost every brand has had an issue a time or two, including Blue Buffalo. That said, I will watch out for gastrointestinal issues. However I will not switch to a dog food like Iams, which has corn as its first ingredient. Kirkland signature is one of the highest rated pet foods, and I hope Diamond investigates the issues so many folks have been having.

I made several requests to Costco to stop carrying the chicken/duck jerky from China. Now it appears that made in USA does not ensure that the ingredients don't still come from China...just manufactured here. Please report any problems with food/biscuits to the FDA. It is extremely important that these need to be documented with them. I believe Susan Thixton is the only official consumer representative to FDA meetings on pet foods and is at the current AAFCO meeting and asks that this be done. An organization started by her sponsored a recent consumer funded laboratory testing of several dog foods which turned up, among other things, some serious problems including toxins created by mold. Further information can be found at TruthAboutPetFood.com...no "s" on the end of 'food' or you will be directed to the wrong site. This is finally getting a lot of attention in the mainstream media and is alerting consumers that we can and should hold the pet food industry responsible and accountable for the health and safety of the foods we feed our pets.
In response to the results there have been attempts to discredit the testing...something that should come as no surprise because of industry fears of the consumer actions that might negatively impact them financially. Please add your voice and stories to those of others who have been fighting this fight for many years and are now finally seeing it receive the broad attention it deserves. I also lost a beloved pet and Service Dog several years ago because of the Chinese Chicken jerky brought to the US.

I had always heard costco dog food was good. I have been feeding the chicken and vegetable (red bag) for a couple years. The Sunday before thanksgiving 2014 I purchased the natures domain in the green bag (I think is turkey and pea). On thanksgiving night my papillon walked with her back hunched up and it looked like she had a little blood in her stool, some diarrhea on her hair. We went to bed and she threw up all over the bed. The next morning she went outside and come in with black tarry stool all over her, it was a mess and obvious blood. I took her to the vet and they kept her and did labs and xrays, neither showing anything wrong. They had to give her fluids and gave me the option to leave her or take her home. I opted to take her home but had to take her in for labs and re-hydration the next two days. She was given an injection and antibiotics and a GI tract canned food.
Fortunately she got better and I put her back on the red bag. My vet felt it was the food as did I because she had not gotten into anything. After reading the reviews I am certain it was the food and I also read difficulties with the red bag. Our lab refused to eat the food after a week and she will eat anything. I am completely buying a different brand of food. I was fortunate, I got by with only a $500 vet Bill and still have my dog. I will not take any chances with her health with costco food. I am switching my cats as well.

Coincidentally during the time, I had changed to the Kirkland brand! I had bought the Kirkland Brand Natures Domain Salmon and Sweet Potato to change it up for the dogs and thought it would be a treat, but what a mistake!! If you believe there is an issue with the food and causing the death or illness in your dogs, get a necropsy done on the dog and have a sample of the food tested for toxins/poisons. I'm sure there are bad batches in every product but not once did I read that it was concluded medically and professionally by a qualified veterinary professional that the Kirkland food was the cause of any of the illnesses reported. Cats and dogs have very stellar digestive systems and are more likely to become ill from a foreign object or poison than any commercially produced food. I'm sad for any of the losses of life experienced by these pet owners but I genuinely doubt it was the food that made these dogs and cats so sick. Costco is one of the most responsible retailers and take their products and member services very seriously. And no I don't work for Costco.

I fed Costco Kirkland Lamb & Rice to my first standard, Chelsea, for at least five years. In 2005, at the age of 14 1/2, she became very ill and in pain with kidney poisoning and passed away within 72 hours. Two days after her death, there was a dog food recall, foods made by Diamond Pet Foods, and sure enough, the serial numbers matched. The food was killing older dogs and puppies. Avoid ANY food made by Diamond Pet Foods, as they have had numerous recalls since that time. I cannot say how heartbroken I was when she passed. I could have had her for a bit longer, and at that point in her life, every single day was a blessing.

I believe that's primarily that made me let my Costco membership expire. I bought a bag of dog treats (not even the food!) and my dogs began throwing up. As soon as they began throwing up, I took it back. I think not even a third of the way used, and told them that it had made my dogs throw up and I didn't even care if they reimbursed me what I paid for it, my dog's health was not worth how cheap the bag of treats was. I just dropped the bag of dog treats on the counter and left. I have not been to a Costco since -- and I haven't bought anything Kirkland since that time. Heaven forbid!

Our 12 year old lab has been eating Costco's Nature's Domain Turkey Dog Food for years. We started feeding her a new bag of dog food in late December and she became very ill. She had bloody diarrhea and was vomiting frequently. I smelled her dog food and it smelled rancid to me. I returned it to Costco for another bag. The new bag did not smell like what I returned. But since eating from this new bag she still is not the same. I am going to return this bag also and find another dog food to give her.

I've been feeding this brand/type of food to my greyhound for about a year with no problems, but in December she had a massive attack of bloody diarrhea and vomit over several days. When I took her to the emergency vet, she was negative for worms. The other tests were negative too. Her diet is very restricted, so it's unlikely it was anything else but the food. It was scary, expensive and affected our holiday plans as I couldn't travel with a sick dog.

We have been giving our 11-month old German Shepherd the Kirkland brand puppy food since we bought him at 8 weeks old. He has always done fine on the food, until this past November. We purchased his dog food as usual at our local Costco, then on November 17th our puppy began vomiting. Not just vomiting, but literally, projectile vomiting, immediately after eating. We wondered if perhaps he had gotten into something, as he is just a puppy, but as the days progressed, he continued to vomit immediately after eating AND drinking.
My husband and I watch him like a hawk while both inside and outside, so the chances of him getting into something were quite slim. We took him to the vet on November 19th, and had them run the typical tests to rule out parvo, ringworm, etc. All tests came back negative. Of course, on this particular day our pup had not vomited in a few hours and we hoped he was on the mend.
The next day, his vomiting continued and we grew even more concerned. We took him back to the vet on November 21st. He had lost 7 pounds in just two days. We decided to do X-rays to check for a blockage, but the vet advised us that he really did not think there was a blockage because of our dog's behavior. The X-ray came back completely normal, besides that he had a lot of gas built up. At this point we were at a loss. The vet gave him a Cerenia injection for the nausea and sent us home with some Cerenia in pill form to get him through a few days. $500 later, we still had no answers and were just trying to get the poor puppy to hold down some food. The anti-nausea medication seemed to help, but over the past month and a half, he will have bouts of vomiting and diarrhea. Just two days ago, he vomited immediately after eating and drinking for another two days. We were again ready to take him back to the vet.
I started researching dog foods and a friend of mine who is also a pet owner, found these reports regarding the Kirkland brand food. Needless to say, I did a ton of research regarding good dry dog foods and we are immediately switching. I will NEVER again purchase Kirkland food and I highly advise pet owners to proceed with caution when considering Kirkland brand food as well. I find it very alarming that all of these incidents began happening around the same time frame, especially for those of us who have been using this food for quite some time. There definitely has to be a connection between the Kirkland dog food and all of these animals getting so ill. I will certainly not be stopping here, as something must be done about this problem.

I have 12 Bernese Mountain Dogs, 5 Portuguese Water Dogs and 1 French Bulldog. I have been feeding the different varieties of Kirkland food now for many years. Bernese Mt. Dogs are not the healthiest breed with the average life span being between 6 and 8 years of age. I had one that had been fed Kirkland food for many years that lived to be nearly 13 with no health issues. I have raised many on the Salmon at 24% protein, no issues, and passing their OFAs. Their product is not made in China, it is made in the USA.
I have seen issues in dogs that I have bred that were placed with people who fed what they thought was a good dog food, Blue Buffalo. In fact, the French Bulldog came to me with bloody stools and an overgrowth of e. coli in her large intestine. She had to be put on Baytril for 6 weeks. She has been on Kirkland food for 2 years now and she has been fine.
I make a very large purchase of Kirkland Puppy, Kirkland Lamb and Rice, Chicken and Rice, Beef, Maintenance and also the Salmon each month. I have never had the problems described here unless my dogs had a virus. I do live in a different area, but I believe that all of the products come out of the same manufacturing plants. I know it is easy to blame the food, but you should make sure that you are not dealing with a virus. You can bring it in on your shoes, birds bring it in, flies, you never know. You think just because your dog hasn't left the yard that nothing has come in. You have no idea.
Now, if I start to see an issue in my dogs, I will suspect something has changed. But for now, I highly recommend the food. I start all of my puppies on Kirkland puppy food and then switch over to the Salmon at about 4 months for the Bernese to slow the growth. The Portuguese Water Dogs continue to get a mixture of Puppy and Salmon.
The consequences are that I have a 99.9% OFA passing rate in my home. I have healthy dogs that live much longer than their expected life span. I have the nicest, shiniest coats in the show ring. I have bred and owned dogs in the top 10 for the past 12 years including the #1 BMD in the USA in 2012 and his littermate #1 in Sweden. I don't feed junk.

In December 2014 we purchased a bag of Diamond Naturals (the same manufacturer of Kirkland's Pet Foods) Beef Meal and Rice dog food for our dog Kellan. Within a week she became sick. She refused to eat, was attempting to vomit, and had bloody diarrhea. We took her to the Emergency Vet on December 19th where she was given blood work, X-rays, subcutaneous fluids, and antibiotics. The blood work and X-rays came back inconclusive on any blockages, physical issues, and aside from dehydration and electrolytes being out of balance, every test was normal. We started feeding her home cooked rice/chicken/beef/eggs and her symptoms got better.
The emergency vet told us to reintroduce her Diamond Naturals food a little at a time after 3 days. Once again, she became sick. On December 26th we took Kellan back to our regular vet. Again, we were told to give her the home cooked rice/chicken/beef/eggs and then reintroduce her Diamond Naturals food a little at a time. This went back and forth for a couple weeks. The more dog food she ate, the sicker she became. Symptoms included: one day she was fine, the next she refused to eat; lethargy; chills; bloody diarrhea; vomiting; restlessness; heavy breathing; upset stomach; excessive gas. We continued to take her to the vet and had test after test run. Nothing was found.
On January 9, 2015, she ate breakfast, eggs mixed in with Diamond Naturals food, in the morning and seemed fine. At dinnertime, she refused to eat. Around 10:00 PM she became lethargic, had chills, and heavy breathing. She was dead before 10:30 PM. Our entire family is devastated as we had just rescued Kellan in July 2014 and she had a lot more life to live. The ONLY explanation for her symptoms was the Diamond Naturals dog food. Sadly, hindsight is 20/20.

Our two dogs (14 year old miniature doxie and 7 year old dobie mix) have eaten kirkland chicken/rice dog food without issues for years. A couple of weeks after getting a new giant bag, both dogs started getting sick (doxie had black tar stool and lethargy; dobie had vomiting, lethargy and was extremely thirsty all day and night. Both were treated with prescriptions and dietary adjustments (home-cooked rice and chicken), and once the prescriptions were complete and symptoms subsided, we went back on the kirkland food. Days later, symptoms returned, so we tried just the home-cooked chicken and rice, and symptoms again disappeared and remain gone.
Based on others' posts, seems there's some disturbing change in the food sold under kirkland's brand, since just eating better food fixes the problems for our girls. Still hoping for the best after just the one bag of this bad food ingested by our pets. Monitoring their health, and will update if any changes. NO MORE KIRKLAND DOG FOOD for our dogs.

We have been buying the Kirkland Dog Food for a few months because it is cheaper of course and we really wanted them to be on a grain free dog food. Last week our male started having black and bloody diarrhea and horrible foul smelling gas. Otherwise he seemed ok and was still eating, drinking, and his normal perky self. Our female seemed completely normal.
After a few days of diarrhea, I fed my male like normal one evening and about 30 minutes later he became completely immobilized and was shivering. He smelled so bad from gas and diarrhea. He literally could not get up on his own or walk without falling down. And he was cold to the touch. I personally think he was going into shock. This was a weekend evening and we have no emergency vet in the area. Fortunately I have a naturopath doc who is a friend and she was able to test him and provide a homeopathic and herbal remedy to support his organs throughout the night.
He made it overnight and was groggy and weak throughout the rest of the weekend. Of course we immediately stopped the food. I bought chicken breast for him to eat until he was better. We were worried that our female may also become sick. And sure enough a day later, she started showing the exact same symptoms. She had vomiting, black and bloody diarrhea. We were able to start supportive care with her more quickly because we were prepared and so far she has not started to shiver and has not yet lost her ability to get up and walk on her own.
Our male has started to recover and only has a small amount of diarrhea at this time. It is no longer black or bloody. We are hoping our female will do okay too. I looked up the Kirkland brand dog food and saw this thread and am 100% convinced that the Kirkland dog food is to blame. I feel certain that my male almost died that one evening and I'm just so happy his body was able to push through. We have all the stool, the bag, and the remaining dog food. If our dogs happen to die from this, we will also pay whatever price necessary for the testing to prove if it was or was not the food. If anyone wants to contact me to band together, feel free. These dogs are like my children and if this is indeed the food causing their sickness, I don't appreciate having them poisoned by a company that should have better measures in place. In this day and age, there should be ways to prevent this. It's inexcusable.

Around Sept/Oct 2014, my husband and I changed our 2 Mastiffs to the Kirkland brand dog food (red bag/turkey and sweet potato) and noticed that our female Mastiff was having mucous diarrhea all the time. I thought that it may have been the "extras" I was putting into her food so we completely cut out any treats or "extras" in her diet. The diarrhea did not end so my husband and I took her to the vet. The vet did blood work and several tests to start ruling things out... everything came back negative and showed she was in perfect health. We couldn't figure out what was causing her to be sick. I noticed the look and color of the dog food had changed too (smaller kibble and more yellow in color), but I didn't think that would be causing it.
At the end of December, our male Mastiff had started vomiting up his food at night and it had lots of mucous in it. Two days later, I went to let my Mastiffs out in the morning like usual and our male was dead. He never messed in his bed and he had bloody diarrhea ALL over his bed. He was curled up like he was sleeping but was gone. He was completely fine acting the days before other than throwing up his food. Our family was in TOTAL shock! After I read these complaints and reviews I had a gut feeling the Kirkland dog food was making my male and female Mastiff sick. I have immediately changed dog foods and plan to file a complaint at Costco.

I did not connect until now the issues I had with my dogs. I had only feed it to my dogs for a little over a month. My younger dog starts getting rashes on her belly. I thought maybe I would switch to a vegan food for a while to see how she would do. The puppy would vomit periodically but I just took it as he was a puppy and ate everything he could get a hold of. I was just weaning them to the vegan food so they were getting a 50/50 mix.
My little six years old all of a sudden started urinating on everything and would not drink any water. She would only eat a tiny amount of food. I took her to the vet thinking she had a bladder infection or something. All the tests came out negative. She has been on the new food for over a month now and is back to her old self. By the second bag zoe started getting terrible diarrhea and vomiting. She became lethargic and within 2 days stopped eating all together. We put it down to puppy flu and decided to wait an extra day to see if she was passing something.
Took her to the vet in thursday - her liver was enlarged. She was still vomiting and very lethargic. We hooked her up to three days of IV treatment and medication. Still no improvements. Our dog wasn't responding to anything. She ended up with acute liver failure for unexplained reasons. We ran out of money to more tests. After reading all these comments....I know for sure we lost our family member to Kirkland food. I'm absolutely heart broken. Vet said without running expensive tests there was no way to know for sure what was wrong but he agreed it was most likely the food. Vet gave him intravenous fluids and a shot of anti-nausea medicine. He said to watch him for 24 hours and if he didn't start to show interest in food or water to bring him back in to be admitted. Luckily he seems to be improving.
I called Costco to let them know the food could be bad, they couldn't have cared less. Told me I could bring the unused in for a refund...nice. I directly emailed Kirkland's and never heard back. I have been feeding my two labs Nature's Domain for the past year. Once my puppy was weened off puppy food, I wanted to switch to a good value food and I shop at Costco on the regular, so for two (one 75 & one 100 pound) labs I thought this was perfect. My older dog was raised on Pedigree and had a hard time with any of the 'nice' dog foods like Blue Buffalo but he seemed to switch to this food fine. Our dogs have had bad gas for the past year but I figured that was a breed related issue. We have had a few incidents where they will occasionally throw-up, nothing too alarming.
A few months ago both of our dogs were sick (vomiting) and they were refusing/hesitant to eat the Nature's domain. I had given them the beef meal instead of turkey so I thought that was the issue. I emailed Diamond and they told me I could return the food no issue, and I did. Now this past week my youngest (1.5 years old) had been gagging here and there. I thought it was weird but was just keeping an eye on him. It would always be after he ate. He got incredibly sick on a Thursday. He threw up massive amounts of food after his breakfast and was continually throwing up the rest of the day.
I finally called my vet at 4:45 pm because in the 4 pm hour, my dog had thrown up 15-20 times (and we were fasting him at this point!!). They had us bring him in and projected all the tests they wanted to run were going to cost $1,100. We started with the blood test, to ensure he didn't eat anything toxic or any chemicals, but the lab results came back fine. They gave us a Cerenia shot (24 anti-nausea med) and told us to monitor for 24 hours and fast him to see how he does. He continued throwing up through out the night and the next day so I called a different vet for an opinion. She recommended x-rays to make sure he hadn't eaten/swallowed anything large that would be blocking his intestinal track.
The x-ray showed some concern near his stomach but nothing major, since he was still throwing up they did a Barium study (swallowing food that shows up on x-rays and taking x-rays every 15 mins to see digestion). They noticed an incredibly large portion of his stomach wasn't showing any of the food. They were concerned at this point he had ingested something and recommended exploratory surgery. We went into surgery and had the unfortunate call they found nothing except SEVERE gastroenteritis. His stomach was so inflamed from irritation but there wasn't anything inside that he could have swallowed.
Since this incident, he has been off the Nature's Domain Turkey dog food, for a week on a chicken & rice (made at home) diet and has fully recovered. The doctor's are dumbfounded at what caused this but I have a hunch it's the build up of food from over time. After reading these other horror stories, I can only imagine it was the food that caused this. There are no toxic chemicals in our home as I am currently pregnant and make all my own home cleaners & detergents from vinegar. Nothing else has changed in his diet or surroundings for his lifetime except when I put him on this food. Take serious precaution when feeding your dog Nature's Domain. The reoccurring stomach issues I've dealt with in both my dogs has always raised concern - but nothing too big until this incident.
Through all of this - I have emailed Diamond to let them know of these issues and they claim they have no other complaints with the batches of food I'm referring too... but I think they just aren't looking at the bigger picture of how awful their food must be. A friend of mind\e went through the same thing recently with Nature's Domain and the company told her the same thing!
If you love your dog - which I'm sure you do, consider these stories before feeding Nature's Domain. There's an obvious correlation with their food and dog's health issues. Something needs to be done. If you are noticing stomach irritation - vomiting or diarrhea - take your dog off this food and if it stops, there's your answer. Cleanse them with a bland chicken & rice diet to clean our their GI track and start from scratch. If I would have just taken him off, I could have avoided the $1,800 I just spent a week before Christmas!

I have a 2 year old black lab. Use to feed him Iams dog food until recently. Have been going to Costco for years now and decided to buy their dog food since it was cheaper in bulk. Well within 2 months of feeding him this food and a huge vet bill, they found a rectal adenocarcinoma. I just found out about the link between my dog's illness and this food through several websites but am going to contact costco where I bought the food and treats. Will follow up as soon as I get a response and inform my vet to test for proof. Since I still have both maybe costco will finally be held accountable. Can't say it's the food yet but after reading all these complaints, I don't know what else it can be.

Our rescue experienced the same as so many of these poor dogs, and $750 in vet bills later, I am ANGRY. We began feeding the dog Kirkland's Grain Free Salmon meal and sweet potato on November 26, and on December 3, he was at the vet after a pain-filled night (we thought it was fear of the rain until he went out and completely voided his bowels over the course of 2 hours while we waited for our appointment at the vet). Also diagnosed with pancreatitis, GI inflammation, and severe dehydration because he had been pooping liquid all morning. We are generally very happy with Costco and the Kirkland brand of product, but as I read all these reviews, I am furious. I have already contacted my veterinarian for suggestions in dealing with this.

I have a red and white setter and a setter/lab mix, they, like all my previous dogs are grazers as eaters. I also feed them the canned wet food on occasion and Kirkland bones as treats and they actually dance for them!! I had the most amazing dogs, never gave them Kirkland food...my therapy dog passed away from pancreatic cancer having never tasted a Kirkland product....I also had 2 amazing mutts that both passed from different forms of cancer, also never having tasted a Kirkland product. Our dogs have been eating Kirkland Dog food for years. We purchased a new bag a few weeks ago, and within days two of our dogs got very ill. One diagnosed with Pancreatitis, and the other was bleeding in his upper GI tract (his stools were like black tar). We took the food back to Costco, and contacted their Headquarters. We sent them the production code, and they are "claiming" that there is nothing wrong with the food. After seeing these other complaints, I don't think it's a coincidence. We've switched food, and after almost $800 in medical bills, we're hoping they're on the mend and there will not be any future problems.

First, we are and continue to be loyal customers of Costco. We have simply found that the Kirkland dog food makes our dog ill. My wife and I have 50+ years of combined experience in chemistry/biology research and we did not come to this conclusion easily. Over the course of two months we switched from her former Iams food to the Kirkland food and every time she became ill. Specifically, she had much thirst, much urine with incontinence, lethargy, lack of appetite (very unusual for her), vomiting, diarrhea, and frequent bowel movements. Discontinuing the Kirkland food halted the symptoms within 1 to 2 days. We had a chem panel done on her at the veterinarian with no unusual findings, but we are certain there is something wrong with the food!

We switched our two dogs to the Grain-Free Salmon and Sweet Potato flavor of food because it was much less expensive than what we were using. Within 1-2 weeks, both dogs became finicky eaters. They ate out of necessity, not because they liked it. Now, about 8 months later, one of our little guys (who had always been healthy) is dying from kidney disease and pancreatitis. Everything changed for him when we switched foods. Although we changed back after 1-2 bags of food, we are going to take our other guy in for blood work to see if he has the beginnings of the same issues. Because our dying dog is part Husky, it was difficult to see the weight loss (so much fur). One year ago, he was 67 lbs. The other day, he weighed 41 lbs and 35 lbs now. My husband is taking him in now to help him go peacefully...

I have been feeding Kirkland's dog food since Costco came to my town (about 2 years ago) and have not had a problem with it until this week when I opened a new bag and fed it to my 4 Smooth Fox Terriers, a breed known for its cast iron stomachs and lack of health problems. One by one starting with the youngest, after feeding from this new bag they began throwing up everything and showed definite signs of severe discomfort. The ever-alert-and-wagging tails drooped, they were shivering, their backs were hunched, they were vomiting frothy yellow liquid, and, finally, wouldn't eat anything. The only thing I could think of that might have caused this was the food, and my fears were corroborated after reading several CA reviews.
I immediately drove to town to buy a different, far more expensive because of the manufacturer's massive advertising campaign, dog food and managed to entice the two males to eat a bit. I don't feed junk dog food to my dogs and have taken pains to buy only food that is made in the USA so as to avoid the kinds of problems that have occurred from feeding dog food made in, say, China. My dogs are too important to me to take risks like that.

She took a stool sample and some blood but couldn't find anything. She said it was probably a stomach virus and gave me antibiotics and some capsules to restore the good bacteria in the dog's intestinal tract. The other dog I gave half of a teaspoon of plain yogurt at night. After 10 days they were both fine so I resumed feeding the Kirkland food only to have them have the same bloody stools again within 24 hrs. I stopped feeding this food immediately and they are fine once again. My sister's 3 dogs also had runny stools and I told her to stop the food right away.

We have 3 Standard poodles, 2 from one breeder and one from another breeder. Both breeders recommended Kirkland kibble dog food, so naturally I thought this was good dog food. I think the breeders only like it because it's cheap. We had several terrible experiences with this dog food. The first bad experience was when my 3 dogs were puppies. And yes, we had 3 puppies all within one year. First the oldest puppy got sick, vomiting, and diarrhea that appeared to be bloody. He got so dehydrated, I had to bring him to the vet and they had to insert IV fluid under his skin in the back of his neck. Next my other two dogs got sick, same symptoms. The vet prescribed Prescription Science Diet dog food in a can (rice and chicken).
After about two weeks, my dogs started getting back to normal. The vet told us to dispose of their dog food and treats, as it was suspect that this is what caused them to get sick since all tests done came back negative. We were giving them Kirkland premium chicken rice and vegetables (in the red bag), and Kirkland dog biscuits (assorted flavors). This was in 20012--Later I learned that the manufacturer of this dog food had a recall around the time our dogs got sick.
I had continued to feed our dogs this food, not fully realizing that it was actually the dog food that made all of my dogs very ill. The saga continues: My dogs kept spitting up yellow bile constantly, so I called one of the breeders to see if she has had the same experience with the chicken based Kirkland Premium dog food. She said that the chicken dog food has too much chicken fat, so she recommended the premium lamb and rice dog food (in the green bag).
And again, sadly, the saga continues. My dogs were being very finicky with the Kirkland brand premium lamb and rice dog food. Our large brown male Standard Poodle was very thin. I was almost embarrassed to send a picture to the breeder, but I had promised to send her a pic after one year. She said that my dog was very thin. I told her that I followed the directions according to the bag of food based on the dog's weight. She said that a puppy should eat as much as they want - to never ration a puppy, that I should full feed the dog. He is actually the best eater of all of my dogs. I was a little embarrassed, but I figured, either the amount is wrong on the bag or the food is not very nutritious.
Based on this new info from the breeder, I just thought that I was doing it all wrong, so I made sure the dogs always had a full bowl. Lo and behold, my 3 beautiful standard poodles never gained weight and the longer I fed them this food, I noticed they began to get very finicky and they actually all lost some weight--especially the female.
The saga continues and I finally realized--this food is probably killing my dogs very slowly. The female is now pregnant and she will not eat hardly anything. I tried mixing it with different brand wet and dry foods, but she just would not eat right as long as she stared at the Kirkland Kibble in her bowl. I was so worried, because you could not hardly tell she was pregnant by looking at her. The breeder obviously started blaming me and was acting as if it was all my fault. I told her that I followed the directions on the bag of food, but my dogs hate this dog food. In addition, I told her that I tried mixing other dog foods with the Kirkland brand, but all 3 dogs were so finicky (especially the female) and they all continued to lose weight slowly.
After the bad experience with my 2 year old pregnant female and past experiences with all of my dogs, I was convinced that Kirkland dog food was a very bad brand. At this point, I figured a breeder is not a good source at recommending a healthy dog food. At this point in my dog's lives, I was trying every different brand in the book with no takers of my dogs liking food. They seemed to like certain dog foods at first, but would eventually get finicky again. The common theme I noticed with all of the dog foods I tried was that my dogs were very finicky with all brands that I tried. I wasted hundred of dollars of dog food with no success. One common theme that I noticed is that they were ALL FROM CHINA.
With this in mind, I decided to seek brands made in USA. I spoke with a friend of mine and they recommended Merrick grain free dog food, so I decided to try it. I tried the Merrick Buffalo and Sweet Potato mixed along with some Kirkland (in proportions to graduate a change). My dogs ate a little better and I noticed that their poop was a bit more solid, but I was not convinced that they liked it better than some of the leading China brands, so I tried the Texas Beef. Same results here, they liked it, but were still a bit finicky. I then decided to try the Chicken brand Merrick dog food. Wow--they really seem to like this, but one of my males was a bit slow to adapt to it and was still being a little finicky. I figured that since the female liked it, I may have finally stumbled onto something good.
With this in mind, I decided to try a few more Merrick flavors, so I tried the Classic chicken, brown rice and peas recipe (with Grain). Hey I noticed all of my dogs liked it, but some liked the grain free and others liked the grain recipe better. Wow, what a breakthrough. My dogs actually like dog food and they do not get sick at all. No vomiting, no spitting up, no yellow bile, no diarrhea, and no more finicky eating.
Since I finally found a breakthrough with dog food, I decided to mix the grain free that 2 dogs liked with the Classic Merrick large breed dog food that contains grain and lo and behold, I have found a mix of dog food that all of my dogs like. And what a difference in their health. No more ear infections, no more getting sick and no more yellow bile. My dogs have much more energy and their coat seems so much healthier. They all happily eat their dog food and all of them have regained their healthy weight.
My recommendation is to eliminate the suspect Chinese brand dog foods altogether and feed them the more healthy Merrick dog food made in USA. You may need to experiment with the flavors. I have researched this food and the critics say this food is 5 star. I searched Amazon and many others, and it is no lower than 4-5 stars average everywhere. I also search Dogfoodadvisor.com and they rate it as a 5 star--Amazon customers rate it at 4.5 star. Do your dog a favor and give up the China made brands.

Several months ago I purchased a large box of Kirkland Dog Biscuits from a local Costco. After a month or so I noticed that my 105 pound Lab was starting to act and look ill, including diarrhea and vomiting. He is 12 years old so I attributed his declining health to his age. He has been on a pure diet of IAMS Large kibble, for years with no health problems. This was the first time I tried Kirkland dog biscuits. Assuming the dog biscuits caused my dog's illness, I'm rating my opinion as Angry.
After he lost 30 pounds in 3 months, I took him to a vet. All tests came back with only arthritis being discovered in his spine. More test were done with no weight loss cause being found. After about 3 months of giving him 2 Kirkland biscuits a day I changed his diet to 2 cups of Eukanuba kibble mixed with 1 can of IAMS canned food twice a day. I stopped giving him the Kirkland product. He is gaining weight and is excited about eating and going on walks again. No more vomiting or diarrhea. I don't know if the dog biscuits caused his problems but all problems have stopped within 2 weeks of stopping the small amount of dog biscuits he was eating.

I have 2 male cats, Onyx (diarrhea/itchy balding area) & Cassidy (stool smells really bad lately/vomiting). Before buying Kirkland pet food brand (Chicken/Rice Premium All Stages-dry food) from Costco, both had their own types of food due to their age differences; it was expensive, though both were doing fine & everything was normal. Because I was on a tight budget, I wasn't sure how I was going to continue to do what I was doing. Since seeing this brand at Costco, I thought that this would be perfect... All things seemed great: Ingredients, All Stages, Price, Quantity, Costco. During the 1st bag, I saw minor things like them turning away from the food once in a while so I'd dribble water on it or just give fresh scoops.
I didn't see any major issues until towards the end of the bag. While still finishing up this 1st bag, Onyx went to get neutered which went fine (& post-op it's typical to have a bit of diarrhea/giving antibiotics). A week went by and Onyx still had diarrhea. Vet suggested to give boiled chkn/rice for a few days...did that & still no change. Week 2, went back to regular diet & he still had diarrhea & has continued to have it. We ran stool samples, got examined and everything checked out to be normal/fine. Vet pointed out a balding spot/alopecia on him, I thought it was spacing in his hairs but this is all happening while I'm feeding them both this brand.
While shopping at Costco one day, my friend said she didn't like Kirkland's food products. And after receiving the call that Onyx stool sample was negative, I began to think about what my friend said & wondered about the food that I was giving them and maybe this has something to do with Onyx's problems. After seeing so many of these awful reviews, I'm pretty sure that what is going on with Onyx & Cassidy is related to the food since everything else has checked out to be normal. I don't want a horror story. I won't take any chances, I'm going to go find something of QUALITY for them that's just not about convenience anymore. I hope to update with good news soon.

All was fine until the spring of 2014 when one of our cats started peeing in the house. We had the cat to the vet and ran blood tests and a urine test and nothing showed up. Then in August all of the cats stopped eating the dry food. They are all over the age of 7 and have never done this before. All of the cats and the dog were shedding so much more than they have ever done before. One cat lost all of the fur on its four legs. The cat that was peeing in the house was losing chunks of fur.
My vet said that cats will not eat food that has something wrong with it. We switched all of our cats and the dog back to their old food and within one week the cat stopped peeing in the house and the cat food dishes were empty in the morning. The dog's fur became shiny again and the fur is growing back on the cat's legs. The shedding has stopped and all animals seem to be much happier. I am not sure what has changed with the food but we were completely satisfied from Dec to April and then something changed. I will never recommend this food.

I have a 2 1/2 yr old pure bred Golden Retriever who I usually feed Iams Dog food to and she has been fine with that food but recently I went to Costco to buy her food (as I had gotten Iams there before) and they did not have the Iams. Well I was reluctant but was out of food and didn't want to have to go to another store so I checked the ingredients on the Adult Superior food and the first ingredient was chicken and not corn-meal or by-product so I thought it may be okay. She was eating it for about 2-3 weeks when one day, she started acting lethargic and run down. She was also running a fever.
So I took her to the vet and it turns out her liver count was really high and her blood platelets were really low. The vet was very concerned and thought she had eaten something she shouldn't have or gotten exposed to Lyme disease. I explained to her that she was just in our own backyard which she has been in for the past 2 yrs and nothing has changed and because the weather had been very warm (we are in Phx), I hadn't even taken her out for walks much and definitely had not taken her anywhere where she couldn't been bitten by a tick. Besides I pet this dog a lot...she's my baby, and I think I would've felt if she had a tick on her.
Anyway, she ran all the tests, even testing her for valley fever (which is a disease you can get in AZ but did not know dogs could get it). She was put on steroids, antibiotics and some pills for her liver and all tests came back negative. We couldn't figure out what had made her so sick and then it occurred to me that I had recently started feeding her this Kirkland dog food and I had heard about problems with their treats! I immediately stopped her off this food!
Thankfully she has made a complete recovery but I am NEVER feeding my dog the Kirkland brand food again. When I took the bag of leftover food back to Costco and explained to the guy what happened, he was surprised. Said they had not had any problems with that food... Well yet as far as I'm concerned, although I've seen lots of stories on the internet about people who had dogs get suddenly sick after eating this food. I am so thankful that my dog was okay and that her vet was so thorough.

I bought a big bag of Kirkland Dog food for my 2 Belgian Shepherd Malinois. They are a large breed. These dogs are always hungry and at times I catch them eating cow paddies. They refuse to eat this dog food, they would rather go hungry. I decided to wait it out and after 2 days one of the dogs ate a bowl full and got sick right afterwards - I have pics. So what in the hell is going on here? These dogs cost $5000 each. I was not looking for a cheap brand of food and just picked up a bag because of convenience.

I have been feeding Kirkland dog food for over 10 years. I actually joined Costco just for the dog food. It was always rated so high, and it was a good price, and when feeding 6 Great Danes, you need to be getting the most for your money. Recently my dogs have stopped being excited about their food. I am feeding the "gray bag" of dry food. If I don't doctor it up, they won't eat it at all. They leave some in their bowls and are not interested in cleaning up the floor or their bowls as they have always been in the past. I am now suspicious that they are getting their food from China and it is inferior food. I will be researching a new food.

Awful!
Then I was excited about the cat food. Reasonably priced and the cats seemed to really like it. Now my tortoiseshell long hair beautiful Bailey is throwing up constantly and she has crystals and leakage around her eyes. Her fur is dull and looks like she is 10 years older than she really is. Very scary, the very similar experiences I keep reading about. I just switched to another dog food. All these dogs having similar symptoms after eating this brand. The symptoms are all those associated with arsenic poisoning: thirst, drooling, vomiting, staggering, intense abdominal pain, cramps, diarrhea, lethargy, exhaustion. Unfortunately rice contains arsenic, and so does chicken (if you don't already know this, please google this for more information). Only recently did the FDA ban 3 of the arsenic drugs that are given to chickens. As far as I know, there is still one that is currently not banned. I know, yuck. (Just as an aside, there is also arsenic in apple juice). If anyone has a dog starting to show these symptoms, switch to another food IMMEDIATELY!! You will likely be saving your dog's life!!

We also supplement with the raw meaty bones diet and have no problems. We did try the Chicken, Rice, and Vegetable formula years ago because it was the least expensive. However, it did make several dogs vomit so we stayed away from it and never had any problems. The ingredients of their food are comparable to top brands, however, at a more reasonable price. For example, the lamb food is a 40-lb bag and costs $28.99 plus tax. Kirkland is known for taking top brand items, testing it themselves under strict rules, and then private labeling it under their own name. We love this food.

I called Costco again today and told them the situation. The manager said I could come to the store and file a claim so that Costco's insurance company would pay our vet bills. I have been buying Kirkland Dog Biscuits, Dental Chews and Chicken treats supposedly not made in China. Today and last night, there are recalls on the chicken treats Cadet brand and I have called the other two treat companies for Jerky Treats and Annie's Treats and been reassured they do not use any products from China and are USA made. Both my Newfoundlands are having symptoms from the online owners of dogs who have died or are seriously ill due to the chicken and duck treats by Cadet and I am removing the ones I have left from them and waiting for my vet to call me to discuss the need to be seen.
Last year, my big boy was seriously ill with gastrointestinal bacteria and it took 2 months for him to recover and he still has never gotten a firm stool back. I am very upset to be writing this - but I just hope it helps someone. Our beloved dog, Phoebe - a 7-yr-old Chocolate Labrador Retriever - has recently become seriously ill. She has always been a fit and healthy dog. About 6 weeks ago, we opened a new bag of Kirkland Lamb, Rice and Vegetable Formula for her - Costco's own brand. She has eaten several different varieties before with no ill effects. This time we noticed her becoming gradually more lethargic and her thirst went into overdrive over the next few weeks. No other symptoms.
Then suddenly on December 29th she went into shutdown. She was shivering, having stomach spasms, panting in pain and could not rise from the floor. We took her straight to the emergency vet - fearing bloat - but apart from some areas of possible inflammation (brightness) in the renal pelvis and duodenum on ultrasound, and a raised white-count, nothing could be found and she was discharged on painkillers and antibiotics to kill any generalized infection. The tentative diagnosis was pancreatitis - thought to be caused by eating some turkey scraps. Over the next few days, she hardly ate, but drank a good amount, took her medicine and seemed to largely recover. I encouraged her to eat normally - back on the Lamb and Rice kibble - and kept her away from any turkey.
The next thing we knew, she began to have accidents around the house. The urine was dark and offensive. Diagnosis now a UTI. Antibiotics again. But she has worsened. Stopped eating. Vomited bile. Shivering. Extreme lethargy. Excessive drinking. Stumbling and unsteady on her feet. Breathlessness. Her stomach has now swollen again and she is at the vets as we speak.
A very close friend mentioned on Monday (Jan. 13th) that there had been a recall of some dog-food in 2012. I googled and checked it out - only to find with horror that it was all Kirkland. Not only that - almost all the dogs had similar symptoms to Phoebe. Toxicity - often leading to an initial diagnosis of pancreatitis and (as we noted) confusing the vet. Most of the dogs exhibited sudden urinary symptoms - especially accidents; excessive drinking; spasms; extreme lethargy; inability to move; breathlessness etc. Dogs died of complications related to neurological symptoms (i.e., seizures), liver or kidney failure. I am HIGHLY suspicious that this is all happening again. Then I found this thread - which confirms that Kirkland has yet more problems.. I just hope Phoebe gets better. She is a beautiful member of our family and we will do our best to help her fight through this!

Our dog has what seems to be a spasm from time to time. We tried Kirkland briefly 4 years ago with her to be met with diarrhea. She has been on a variety since, mostly grain free, for several months a homemade variety. She was most recently on Nature's Variety Instinct Kibble and doing great, other than the cost for us of it. She has not had a spasm in over a year, to which we attributed to a change in sleeping arrangement for her. She is a Basset mix with a long body and back that seems to need tender care.
We switched her today to Kirkland Chicken Kibble and tonight, she had a spasm (seizure?) that lasted for minutes. She laid down on the floor, drooled continually and hardly changed position. She trembled and panted and held her paws stiff. It seemed like a seizure but I am not sure. Her eyes were open and seemed to focus and she moved her head and neck. She began to relax when she laid on her side. Anyhow, the only recent change we can think of this time is the dog food. Still the same sleeping arrangement and routine.

She isn't as nuts about food anyway, so if it were just her, I wouldn't have worried. She also vomits occasionally. I have recently switched foods which both of my dogs liked in the beginning. Now, they will sometimes go for a whole day not eating, only eating if they are starving for food.
They both throw up still--just cleaned up a bunch of vomit a half hour ago. My concern is that the Kirkland food hurt them in some way--why would they both have vomiting and lack of appetite? This is why I started researching Kirkland complaints, and I do see that others have had this problem. I am fearful for my cairn terrier, especially, as he seems more affected overall. He even drinks a lot more water than he used to. I worry that something happened to his kidneys, but how could I prove that it was Kirkland, even if my suspicions pan out? Then starting close to 6 months ago, all 6 dogs started to go downhill. It started with itching and coat issues. The coat becoming like straw, thinner and falling out.
One male dog started leaking urine, one female dog started licking her privates after every urination and often other times as well. Another dog had sores and lesions of the mouth and even developed an infection, and paws cracking and drying out. My friend's homeopathic/allopathic vet said it was probably the food. My husband and I both noticed the food looked and smelled differently but attributed it to a change in the formulation. A few days ago, we began using Kirkland's Mature Dog Formula. Now both dogs are eating normally. Luckily, we have not noticed any adverse heath affects as a result of the tainted food.

I purchased a bag of Kirkland premium weight control dog food on May 1, 2012 from the Montclair, California store. I did not feed it to my dog until Sunday, May 6, and I had always fed my dog that brand with no problems. I did notice that its color looked different, but I did not think twice. My dog always eats all her food, but this morning she only ate half. Later that day, may be 5 or 6 hours later, she started looking sick and then started throwing up. I noticed that she had thrown up most of what she had eaten that morning. Since it was Sunday and my vet was closed, I told my wife we would watch her. Then we noticed her vomit started to have blood in it; then, I saw her try to take a poop and it came out like a fire hose - all blood and not even soft. We immediately took her to the emergency vet. They did x-rays and blood tests and put her on an IV. The tests were inconclusive. The vet wanted to keep her overnight, so we took her recommendation. She was feeling better, but still weak.
So after paying roughly $1,000.00 to that vet, we took her to ours. They kept her for the day and charged us another $165.00 and stated to watch her. I still did not suspect the food. But when she came home, I noticed she would not touch it. Then I remembered I still had some of the older bag of dog food in my RV. I gave it to her and she ate it immediately. I then looked on the web and found out that there was a recall on the food. I called and started a claim. They told me it was not in California. Well, I'm sorry, my dog got sick from your dog food and it is in California. They still have done nothing and have stated no dogs have gotten ill.

After feeding my dog Purina Dog Chow and trying other foods, I decided to make the switch to Kirkland (dry food). Purina Dog Chow had made my dog's health deteriorate very rapidly; she was constantly vomiting, had diarrhea, was drinking enormous amounts of water, and was lethargic, on top of losing hair and generally looking miserable. I read about Kirkland on Dog Food Advisor's website and was stunned to see it was rated as a 4-star food in terms of quality and ingredients, putting it up with some of the most expensive dog food you can find. However, it's less than half the price! So I figured Costco has never let me down with its Kirkland brand, so I'd give it a shot.
To make a long story short, my dog loves the food, actually finishes her servings, and has made a full and speedy recovery back to good health. She hasn't been sick once, since I made the switch; and I'm paying less than I was for the Dog Chow. Now, she's happier, looks better than she ever has, and doesn't have a single health problem. I'm sticking with Kirkland and telling everyone I know. I highly recommend it!

A green bag (lamb and rice) of Kirkland dog food that I purchased in March 2012 had a really strong odor. I’m not sure how to describe it, but my dogs seem to be sick on it. Is there more to this batch of food? Has anyone investigated this since the original complaint?

I've bought Kirkland dry dog foods for over 10 years. I've felt that the ingredients were good quality, and my dogs have done well on it. With the last bag I bought (Kirkland Lamb & Rice Dry Dog Food), KLV0106DNL, GA 00:16, Best Before 16/Jan/2013, both of my dogs were getting sick.
I've always soaked the kibble before feeding to prevent bloat. Usually, it's just the consistency of soggy kibble. This bag, the consistency was more like very sticky peanut butter. My 4 year old black Lab was listless (acting like tummy-ache) and my 6 year old Dalmatian was vomiting it up after each meal. He was unable to keep any of it down.
After about 5 days of trying different amounts of water in the kibble, and seeing my Dal get thinner and thinner, I stopped feeding them this food. I phoned the number on the bag, and the lady assured me that there haven't been any changes to the formula. I was also phoned by a gentleman who said that there had been one other call about the canned food, but nothing about the dry food. I told him that I would not be able to feed my dogs this food anymore and that I would not recommend it to anyone else ever again. He said he was sorry to hear that and recommended I return the bag to the store for a refund.
I also read that if there's a problem with the dog food, and any legal issues arise, that if you've returned the bag to the store, you’ll have no evidence. So I've kept it. I have switched to making my own dog food. My Lab was fine with the switch over. My Dal took a couple of days to adjust and stop vomiting. They're both, thankfully, doing well now. I'm very unhappy with the response I got from Costco/Kirkland.

Seven of my 16 dogs developed diarrhea on Kirkland Chicken and Veggie adult dog food. I contacted the manufacturer, who said there have been no other complaints about the batch of food. I spoke to the veterinarian there. She suggested my dogs might have Giardia. She said the foods undergo extensive testing. She said that if a problem was found with this lot, she would contact me. I am really neither satisfied not dissatisfied. That would depend on what is done, if more people have problems with their pets consuming this food.
Lot numbers of the food causing diarrhea and mucous stools are: KCR0301C 3SL RD 11:20, Best before 03/Mar/2013. I had bought 4 bags and used 1.5 bags. I took the 2.5 bags I had left, back to my local Costco, stated my complaint, and received a refund for all 4 bags. The woman at the returns counter told me that another woman had called that morning also to complain about problems feeding this food.

I fed my dog Kirkland brand food from Costco... He became very sick. Also 2 of our cats passed away, that were also eating the food. My dog could have died, along with the thousands of other animals that ate this tainted food... I lost two cats. I am devastated that my animals had to go through this. We shouldn't have to fear that the food that we are feeding our pets could actually poison them.
