Easy to find and get at Costco. Lasts a long time. My dogs don’t really like it but they will eat it if I add broth or cheese to it. Bags are made of paper so they are recyclable. Ingredients could be better however they are better than most on the market.

I had been feeding my Rottweiler American Journey limited ingredient dog food for almost a year. I noticed that the Costco brand was much cheaper so I decided to give it a try. My dog started scratching a lot, but I didn't think much of it. When I started to notice that he continued to scratch himself a lot and was licking himself a lot I thought it was seasonal allergies. I got him a bunch of stuff for allergies and it didn't seem to be getting better. He had a lot of scabbing, hair loss, and he was scratching himself to bleeding point. I thought it might be the food. So I found this site in which many other pet owners are reporting the same type of problem. I'm returning the food and switching him back to his old food.

We have been using Costco’s Nature’s Domain dog food for over 15 years. I have Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and my daughter has a Chihuahua and a small Terrier. My old girl passed away 3 years ago and she was 14 and very healthy to her last days. We use the grain free salmon. All the dogs have great coats, awesome teeth, they don’t fart, they are active and very healthy. People comment how soft their coats are. The vets are amazed how healthy they are. I wouldn’t feed anything else.

Ok so I have 3 dogs and I finally broke down and gave in and purchased the cheap stuff from Costco. BIG MISTAKE! I cannot believe how my dogs behavior changed after 3 days of eating this! He has become overall aggressive. I only have it to my corgi to try out first. He is the overweight dog. He also drank so much water!! He has never needed to drink like he did when he ate this food. I read the reviews and I am taking this back immediately. DO NOT buy the weight management dry food. He is the kindest most loving dog! And I took him on a walk and he was pulling at me to try to attack another dog. He has NEVER done that. His entire personality changed. I can’t believe that this food had that effect on him but it did!! Awful!!

Kirkland has real ingredients not fillers, it has fresh chicken as it main ingredient and egg with garden vegetables, fruits like and herbs plus brown rice.. It contains Pro and dried beet pulp, potatoes, Omega 3 and 6. Glucosamine and Chondroitin, antioxidants plus other vitamins and minerals. I like that we can get a 40 pound bag at the Costco store for a lot less money than other brands. I'd been feeding my dogs Kirkland dry dog food for a year or two. Loved the price and the grain free choices. Both of my dogs, began smelling bad this past winter. And they spend a lot of times swimming in the river and playing outside. Even after shampoos the smell wouldn't go away, it oozed out of their bodies and made my house smell bad. I went back to a more expensive brand I'd used before and the stench left their bodies. Now my worst problem is wet dog smell. Don't think I'll go back to Kirkland, although it will cost me a lot more.

After years of buying this product with my dog eating it happily, something changed in the formulation of the canned Nature's Domain Organic Chicken with Vegetables for Dogs. The first thing I noticed was that the contents poured out rather than requiring a utensil to remove it. What's of concern is that my non-fussy dog took a few bites and has since refused to eat it. I thought it might be just a can or two, but he hasn't touched any from the same case. My cats would try to get to his food before, but sniffed at it and didn't touch it either. I trust their instinct, and if 3 of them responded in the same way, I trust their instinct.

He ate it, threw up, had diarrhea, and refused food again for 3-4 days. I have him back on the wet food. My female gained a considerable amount of weight and has been breathing unusually hard over the same two weeks my male has been ill. Nothing has changed in their diet or their environment. Their fur has become dryer and more brittle. It's the only thing that all three encounter that is identical so I have to conclude it's the food. I decided to switch my dog to this brand of dog food because I like Costco and I know they usually have very high quality products. Well this one caused my dog to have difficulty breathing and to develop an extremely inflamed GI. tract. My dog didn’t develop these problems until she started eating this food. When it first happened I thought maybe she had eaten like a sock or something so I took her to the emergency vet because she was acting as if she was struggling to breathe. That was a $600 vet bill just for X-rays and for some medicine. They said the X-rays showed that she had a very inflamed gastrointestinal tract and there were lots of air bubbles in her stomach. They had me put her on a bland food diet for the next 5 days.

When I put her on the bland food diet she stopped coughing and seemed to be doing better (at this point I hadn’t figured out it was the food doing it to her) so I slowly started mixing the Kirkland brand dog food back into her diet. Well guess what she starting making the same noises like she couldn’t breathe and $500 more X-rays/ultrasounds later, same conclusion that she had an inflamed gastrointestinal tract.

So at this point my vet and I determined that the food was the only variable that was affecting her behavior and health so I took her off of it again. This time just switching to a different brand of dry dog food and she hasn’t had any problems since. The part that irks me though is that I contacted the company and they are putting hoops up and roadblocks everywhere possible and not returning my contact attempts and saying they never heard from me. Because they are trying to avoid reimbursing me for my vet bills that I had only because I fed my dog their product. But what makes me the most angry is not that they won’t reimburse me but because their dog food made my dog very sick (and from reading other reviews my dog is not the only one that has gotten sick) and it makes me enraged that they aren’t doing anything to check their product and there are other dogs out there probably eating from the same batch my dog did and getting sick also.

I worked at a vet clinic about 4 years, I've seen first hand the destruction some food brands can cause on a dog. I've seen dogs come in on the same day with their kidneys and livers nearly 3 times the normal size... Some weren't fortunate enough to go home and snuggle in their favorite bed with their favorite humans. Again all coincidentally had nothing out of the ordinary happen in their lives other than switching to the same food brand. Luckily it wasn't this Kirkland food brand I am writing about today, although there is only one brand I can name that I have seen dogs have nearly the same reaction to: Kirkland mature dog chicken, rice and egg formula. Now I'm baffled at the owners who said after weeks of their dog eating this product they noticed something different about their dog... That is pure negligence on their part if you ask me because I noticed the negative side effects within moments of my dogs first bowl.

My 13 year old boy seemed to love the food, Costco quit carrying his previous bag so I thought I could trust the same branded food with nearly the same ingredients. Boy was I wrong. His bowel movements from one bowl have only gotten worse to the point which blood was present in his stool. After 3 weeks of closely observing and controlling his diet he's finally showing some sign of improvement. I felt a monster this whole time.

I'm not trying to say this dog brand will kill your dog. I'm just trying to put out my personal experience with the brand and am trying to point out this may be the brand for your dog, even if you're comfortable with it because they had already been obviously enjoying their other Kirkland brand without showing any signs of suffering, sickness and flat out fatality (like other reviews have experienced). Never again will I even consider any of the brands Costco has to offer. They played with fire and used my dogs life as their bet.

For almost twenty years I have fed my dogs the Costco Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Vegetable dog food. It's rated four out of five stars by the independent Dog Food Advisor. All the way up to last year I was also feeding my puppies the Costco Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Vegetable puppy food to my puppies. That is rated 4 1/2 stars out of 5 by the Dog Food Advisor. Unfortunately last year they stopped carrying it at our Costco and they went to their Nature's Domain Puppy Chicken and Pea. Although rated four out of five stars, since that time I have three one year old puppies that I have kept to be hopefully added to my breeding program. They have been on this new puppy food their entire lives along with three litters of puppies sent out to clients that had their puppies raised on it. Many of these breedings have been repeat breedings which previously have had no issues. Until this year.

All three of my puppies that I have kept that were feed the Nature's Domain puppy food are ten pounds underweight and below breed standard in height! Two puppies that I have sent home, although they had their hearts checked before they left my home and both parents have had their hearts cleared last year by a specialist approved by OFA, have heart defects. One passed away at ten months old. The other is declining and is expected to "drop dead at any time", according to the doctors at Pullman University. Although the first thought is yes, these things happen in any breeding program, I am seeing more of this within the past year than at any time before in my 11 years of breeding Labrador Retrievers!

After reading several articles about peas, it seems to make sense that the new dog food is the culprit. According the the articles, "Once lectins from the peas are in the blood stream they can attach themselves to tissues such as joints, thyroid, pancreas, and the intestinal villi therefore blocking the absorption of nutrients at a cellular level. The body’s immune system can then send out antibodies to attack the protein along with the tissue it is attached to. Researchers believe this inflammatory process can lead to a multitude of inflammatory diseases including thyroid, diabetes, arthritis, and cardiovascular disease." I will no longer purchase, nor recommend to my clients to feed the Nature's Domain food and would be happy to switch back to the Kirkland Chicken, Rice and Vegetable puppy food if our Costco would go back to carrying it!

Finally after 3 months on the food, my poor dog was losing hair, had a dull coat, was not wanting to eat, became very lethargic, was losing a lot of weight and vomiting a lot. I decided to do some research on the food at that point since she was not willing to eat it and had a massive throw up incident in the middle of the night on our bed. That is when I found all the terrible reviews for the Nature's Domain food! All the bad reviews had description of the ailments my dog was suffering from. It was an a-ha moment where my dog's behavior all made sense.

After that, I decided to switch her over to Canidae Limited Ingredient dog food for sensitive stomachs because I thought it might help her digestive issues (vomiting and diarrhea) and it had wonderful reviews. As soon as we switched her food, she started doing so much better. Her coat was awesome, she was eating again, her poop started being normal, she gained much needed weight and she had her energy back. Once she bounce back, I realized how poorly she really had been doing and I felt so bad since I had chosen that food. I snapped a couple of photos of what I was interested in, compared to what he has been on since he was able to eat dry food, & figured I'd do my research when I got home and decide from there.

Now as I'm sure there are far more that don't do their fair share of research before making a decision, y'all can skip this and move ahead. I planned for TWO YEARS, for this dog - just as one would, if not MORE, than when children are brought into this world because Arco is my CHILD! I researched the best foods, flea & tick medicines, vets, pet beds, everything you can imagine all the way down to my OWN LAUNDRY DETERGENT.

I joined countless GSD groups and forums to be sure I was 10000000% prepped for him when he was finally mine! I picked him out when he was 2 days old because there was such a HUGE waiting list for this particular breeder because she is what she claims to be. Arco doesn't come from a puppy farm, he wasn't bred from overbred parents, I know because I STALKED this breeder knowing I would have him from the day he took his first breath until the moment he breaths his final breath is this world. GOD willing it will be 13-15YOA+.

Moving on. I did my research and as I know from working with the general public, the ones who have things to say are usually the ones to say them... And 12 times out of 12, they are negative comments, nagging, they just wait their voices heard in some way shape or form no matter what the outcome/result may be. I'm not that kind of person but let me tell ya what, always I do my research. ALWAYS. I wasn't instantly sure about Natures Domain but as I kept digging I noticed that they are produced by the same manufacturer as TOTW (Taste Of The Wild)... Which is what Arco has been on since he switched from his mother's milk to dry food AT THE BREEDERS. (Schell & Kamper.)

I've had a GSD before but she was on Buffalo Blue (Diamond Supply Company) and that was 4-5 years ago and let me tell you what, I look at Buffalo Blue and wonder HOW I ever gave them business. Countless recalls. Countless sick dogs. Countless terrible reviews. In saying that, I am 100% aware that TOTW currently holds far worse rating across the board than Natures Domain (for those nit-pickers out there). Aware.

I decided against better judgment after physically printing out the two list of ingredients and comparing to what he was in TOTW High Prairie Puppy Formula. Yes. Puppy. Male dogs are considered puppies until they reach 2YOA, & purchased Costco Nature Domain Salmon Meal & Sweet Potato Dog Food 35 lbs. We finished that bag up rather quickly and this time around I decided to try the Turkey Meal & Sweet Potato Dog Food 35 lbs. I am 1/3 of the way through the bag and I walked in my home today after work and decided that I have had it. WE ARE DONE. I immediately went to Tractor Supply and purchased TOTW High Prairie Puppy Formula 30 lbs in HOPES this fixes Arco. $10-$20 difference won't make or break me and it shouldn't you either. If it does, ask yourself this," Why do I even have 2 mouths to feed."

Arco's last vet appointment he clocked in at 120 lbs at 13.75 months old. Healthy as a horse. Has had all UTD shots. He is in daycare 2-3 days a week socializing with OTHER GSD of his own and thriving. Dr. ** praised me on how healthy I've kept Arco and what ATTENTION to detail I have with him (HUGE honor to even receive a compliment from him). His coat is perfection, nails are "Tough as Nails" so on... & if I was to ever get rid of him he offered not only to take him and love him but to double what I paid for him!!! Dr. ** Lives on 1000+ Acers with Cows, Bulls, Horses, Australian Shepherds, 3 Irish Wolf Hounds THAT SLEEP IN THE BED WITH HIM, you name it!!!

The first time I ever took him to see my vet, Dr. ** (who is highly ranked and has been practicing in his field 40+ YEARS) knows my grandparents and my parents... cracked a little joke with me, well really AT me, and said, "Why did ya buy into that whole grain-free nonsense? Surely you're much smarter than that and you know it's a gimmick? Do your research." He handed me a sheet of paper that I still have in Arco's files on why I should or shouldn't be feeding my dog Grain Free Foods. Raw is the way to go, gotcha! But Raw Is EXPENSIVE! And I'm not a vet!!

Today, March 20th, 2018 Arco, my sweet doodle, is losing CHUNKS OF FUR right and left like he has cancer. He can barely jump onto my bed anymore, I have to help hoist his back legs up... which I don't even like touching his precious hips because, AGAIN he is treated with the utmost care. He is my baby. Arco has lost 15+ pounds in a matter of 30-45 DAYS!!! Unfortunately I attributed it to adding an extra day into his week, daycare wise, and they truly work him out. He is so tired when he comes home. It's all he can do but to eat and drop himself into his XL PLUSH Serta iComfort Cooling Orthopedic Bed. His allergies have been SHOT. Eyes are leaking right and left & they haven't ever done so before unless he had an ear infection (2 times and he's on year round ear drops to alleviate the chances of him catching one). LETHARGY like I've never seen it before in my LIFE. It's terrible!!! I wouldn't feed this food to my worst enemy.

Again. I am VERY aware that they are produced by the same manufacturer BUT just because ingredients are "LISTED THE SAME" on the TOTW list vs. the Natures Domain list doesn't mean that they are the SAME!!! There is NO WAY IN HELL you can tell me, much less CONVINCE me of such because I know my Arco and I know what he's been on since he could eat & I am sadly aware they are produced in the same plant but maybe not the same environment. The same processing method.

I'm so disappointed and wouldn't stop and take an hour out of my day to write this review, if I didn't want you guys who read this to make the same MISTAKE that I have. As a fur mom, as a GSD owner, as Arco's mom... DON'T SWITCH YOUR DOGS. Leave them on what they thrive on and spend the $$$ because at the end of the day, there's no amount of money in this ENTIRE world that I would be willing to pay to compromise his health or put him in danger... and that's exactly what I feel like I've done to him.

We have been using the red bag (Kirkland's Nature's Domain Turkey and Sweet Potato) dry food for several years. A few years ago they weren't carrying it and when I called I was told that they hadn't been able to negotiate a new contract with their supplier. A short time later the grain free became available again and we bought it. I was told it was essentially the same formula. We switched to grain free because our mixed breed dog frequently developed a rash that looked somewhat like prickly heat and she was miserable. A dog breeder we ran into at a pet store told us that her dogs with the same problem did better on grain free food. She was the one that suggested the food at Costco. When we made the switch we gradually added the new food to the old and she made the transition with no problem.

Her dermatology issue improved to the point where we discontinued giving her ** every day. I am so sorry to hear about the deaths/injuries that others have had.

I hope that anyone who has had that problem took a sample of the food to Costco and if available the bag. Improper storage at some facility could have been the culprit. Of course there could be a food incompatibility too. If you are considering a switch maybe just giving a small amount and see what happens might be a safer bet?

Regarding the tumors that have been referred to. We are a pretty big family (extended) with dogs, cats, etc. There have been other family members whose dogs have developed tumors, benign as well as malignant. There have been several different brands of dog food used so I'm not sure I would think that the dog food is responsible. Of course I acknowledge that anything is possible and I don't want to negate the feelings or belief of those who have had this occur. Well, as a too chatty old lady, I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth that we have been very satisfied with the Costco dog food.

We have been giving our English Mastiff the dry Kirkland brand for 5 years and all was well. When we got a Frenchie we chose to feed her the same food since it was healthy and affordable. Less than a year later she went into liver failure from what we thought was canine hepatitis. She was given a few weeks to live and switched to liver specific food from another brand. To our surprise, she recovered. Not even 6 months later and our Mastiff, who was still eating the Kirkland food, began showing the same symptoms. After several tests it is confirmed that she also is in liver failure. I couldn't believe that both dogs had the same thing even though they were different breeds! After some digging I found all of these terrible reviews and it all makes sense now.

Will the car you drive get a similar review with the same reasons? In any case, the ingredients here look good. I have a family member who has used this a long time. My mutt loves it. We currently have two large Airedales (100+lbs each) but previously we have had as many as four at once. These are four-footed family members and we try to do the best for them that we can. (Best care, best food, best vet, best quality of life, etc.).

Why do we use the Kirkland? In descending order of importance: a) They love it and eat it more readily than any of the others. b) Their coats are visibly better, and one dog has stopped having skin problems after feeding the Kirkland for a month. c) Looking up its nutritional content it is very high compared to the other "premium" dog foods. d) (This one does not matter to me because our Airedales are like our "four-footed children" and it seems to be the best one for our pets, but I'll give the reason anyway...) It is significantly less expensive than both the Blue Buffalo and the Eukanuba which we had been feeding for many years. If we were to find another food which performs as well for them and which they preferred we'd swap to it, no questions asked.

The first go round I figured it was because he had spent two weeks in the shelter and would settle down. We tried a few other brands and settled on one that has worked well. We ran short on food and still had almost a full case of Kirkland so I fed him twice today and he again had watery stools and also puked. Fortunately Costco has a generous return policy. I will return the food for a store credit and then go back to the other brand. The dog food may work well for other dogs, but our dog must be reacting to something in the food, maybe the brewer's yeast? If your dog has a sensitive stomach beware.

I assumed it was her regular diet, but she doesn't like it. As our other two Pugs were used to sweet potato and salmon kibble from a more expensive brand, we transitioned all three dogs to it. They weren't eating well so I started making food for them. That got old and expensive, so I started mixing the Kirkland food with what I made. As I began to increase the kibble, one dog threw up repeatedly and her stomach growled for hours.

My elderly, blind and somewhat crippled Pug, Freddy, has megaesophagus so I hand feed him chicken and vegetables. He missed kibble (he barks at the bag) so I fed him the Kirkland from a raised bowl and held him upright so the kibble would get to his stomach. After two days on this food, he has diarrhea and is vomiting. I decided to research this food and found these reviews. I can only hope that no permanent damage has been done to my dogs. My female started having digestive issues too. I could hear their stomachs gurgling at bedtime. They both started having foul smelling gas when they started eating this food. I thought it was just due to the change. They still get foul smelling gas, something they never had on Earthborn food. I threw out this food and they are back on Earthborn grain free. I don't know what is in the Kirkland's dog food, but after seeing the reviews of dogs having the exact same problems my dogs had, I don't trust it and will never buy it again. My babies are worth the more expensive food.

I bought the Kirkland Nature's Domain Turkey and Sweet Potato around December, 2016 then the Salmon and Sweet Potato dog food around January, 2017. I thought I was doing a good thing for my dog, buying this high quality food for him; boy was I wrong! I regret that it took me so long realize that this dog food might be causing these issues. First in mid-January my dog (a healthy Brittany) started having eye problems. The glands in his eyelids were so swollen that while we were at the vet's office he started bleeding from the eyes! That was horrible and led to a month's worth of antibiotics, both oral and ointment, and a visit to the vet eye specialist who diagnosed it as blepharitis, probably an allergy. I thought it was related to stuff the homeowner's association put on the grass, so I kept my dog indoors most of the time.

Then, in mid-April, my friend and I were walking the dog and noticed that his pee looked red. Sure enough when I collected a sample his pee was dark brown, the color of prune juice! I was scared to death! More trips to the vet, more antibiotics, a urinalysis showing an infection, and the vet's recommendation to do over $800 worth of blood tests and x-rays, on top of over $690 in vet bills in the last 4 months. Fortunately, my husband researched brown pee online and found that other people had had problems with the Kirkland Nature's Domain Salmon and Sweet Potato product resulting in both eye issues and brown pee. Needless to say, we took our dog off the dog food immediately, and 3 days later his pee is now yellow.

I am involved in pet rescue therefore have dogs of different breeds and different ages. I switched to Kirkland's Nature's Domain Turkey Meal and Sweet Potato due to the bad publicity that Beneful was receiving. (Rather than wait for a problem, I decided to be proactive to avoid a problem.) Sadly, switching caused the very problem that I was trying to avoid. After being on the food for eight months, four of my dogs have had bloody, gel like, loose stools. The excrement is bloody and very foul in smell (not a normal odor). These same dogs have been eating grass and have since refused to eat their food. A person had donated IAMS food to me therefore I decided to feed the dogs exhibiting these symptoms the IAMS rather than the Nature's Domain, to see if it would alleviate the gastrointestinal problems.

After two days on the food, the diarrhea has stopped. Now I have two dogs vomiting bile. I plan to take all of my dogs off of it immediately as I am now convinced that it is the food. My dogs are all healthy; followed by a vet. This has been an "out of the ordinary" situation that has me convinced that it has to be the food as nothing else has changed for them.

We have a purebred pitbull terrier who has been eating the Kirkland puppy food chicken and rice formula for 4 months now. He seemed to be doing OK on this formula, until we had purchased a second bag and started noticing pretty alarming symptoms in our pup. He started becoming very depressed, followed by lack of energy. We had just had a new baby, and assumed he might have been feeling a little left out.

But then, our pup started having very, very loose stools and straining very hard when he had a bowel movement. Then his condition progressed to vomiting. While all these symptoms began showing, our pup had extreme gas, to the point I was stinking up the whole house. I contacted our vet, who recommended feeding him rice and yogurt mixed.

After 4 days of this, he started to get better. No vomiting, no gas, was passing stool and gained his energy back. Tonight we decided to try our pup on the Kirkland product again, and like clockwork his gas came back, and had a runny bowel movement. I decided to look up reviews on this brand of food, and came across alarming reviews, with many pet owners describing the exact same symptoms our pup is showing, and the common denominator being Kirkland dog food.

Per the above negative reviews, the original recall was in 2012. The recalled dog food has been off the shelves for several years now. I can tell you I have two dogs, a German wirehaired pointer & a short haired pointer, both eat the Kirkland Signature Domain Turkey & Pea stew in the red can. I mix it with the Kirkland Signature healthy weight dry food, use a 3-1 ratio of wet to dry. They love the food, and flatulence doesn't seem to be as much as a problem as there was with other brands (well at least for one of them). Anyway as we all know, all dogs are different & react different, but I would say, if you're hesitant to try the brand because of the 2012 recall, don't be. I hope the helps.

I want to know if any ingredients come from China! I would switch the food types around - all being the Kirkland's Nature's Domain. First salmon, then turkey, then beef because I know that switching them up can help if a dog has skin problems which we were trying to sort out. He was on Nature's Domain for two years. When I ran a search online for reviews of the beef today, it is now completely gone from the Costco website which makes me wonder why. When the vet had me put him on a vegetarian diet a month ago, his hair around his eyes and the latest skin problem filled in nicely. He was accidentally fed some Nature's Domain on an out of town trip recently. Two weeks later I noticed his lymph glands were huge. I took him to the vet and now he's got cancer. I'm now feeding him chicken breast with a tiny bit of brown rice and that's it. I don't trust these dog food makers anymore. I love Costco but this is horrible.

I have been feeding Kirkland Signature food and Nature's Domain food from Costco for over 10 years. I show and breed Bernese Mt. Dogs and Portuguese Water Dogs. Previously, they were one of the best foods on the market. All of my dogs were doing very well with healthy weight and shiny coats. In 2016, something changed. I have a 6 year old PWD with irritable bowel and extremely thin. This cost me a vet bill of over $5,000.00. I had to start cooking food for her to get her through. Anytime she gets a hold of the kibble, she starts to vomit again.

I used to have to feed 1.5 cups of Kirkland Signature food to each of my Bernese 2 times a day. Some would even get a little fat so I would substitute green beans to bring them back down. Now, they are so thin, I have to feed 2.5 cups a day and some of the dogs are on 3 times a day and still thin. This has never happened in the past and never with so many of my dogs. My PWDs are thin as well.

Several of my friends who feed Kirkland Signature and Nature's Domain are also experiencing the very same problems as I am. All of us are from different states so not just from one area. I have contacted Diamond to ask what has changed and they told me that the only change has been the addition of probiotics. I do not believe them. I have been feeding probiotics for 20 years and no issues.

I am now forced to look into a new food for my dogs as I don't seem to be getting anywhere with Diamond. I have asked for who I need to write to at Costco Headquarters to report my issues as I thought that Costco strives for excellence in anything they put their name on. I don't want my concerns to be brushed under the rug by Diamond. I am now NOT recommending any of their foods. And if you do feed it, you need to watch for waste volume, loose stools, irritable bowel, vomiting, loss of appetite, and overall thin dogs.

She is foaming and diarrhea all night. I will take her to the vet asap. The non-Costco/Tractor Supply Diamond Chicken and Rice (same formulation? Different batch?) I told Costco store in Rancho Mirage (who didn't care). But I am wondering if the Western States Costco Distribution are letting the food sit in the heat which is affecting the food AND the packaging (i.e. the glue of the seams). This is why America is in the state it's in. No one cares. I called Diamond Customer Service (800-442-0402). I have been a loyal Costco shopper since they established in Las Vegas, NV. I rescued our German Shepherd, Bosco, when he was just 9 months old. I fed him Kirkland's Lamb & Rice from the day I brought him home in 2005 until March 2016. As he got older he was not running with me anymore and started to get heavy. He also ate extremely fast. I was advised by a breeder/trainer to put him on a diet, so I switched him to Costco's Nature's Domain grain free (red bag) and used a maze bowl to slow down his food consumption. By July his weight was down substantially. I thought the diet was working.

In the months that followed he began eating entire plants in the backyard with roots and all. Then he began having diarrhea constantly. On October 31st, he stopped eating, could not hold anything down and became lethargic. On November 2nd we lost him. He had a massive tumor in his abdomen, was bleeding internally and did not have any remaining platelets in his blood. Bosco had just had a clean bill of health in July. He was strong, smart and the best friend anyone could ask for. Although he was almost 12 years old, We thought Bosco had a couple more years left in him. His passing was so unexpected and has left us devastated.

Our other German Shepherd, Aspen, is about 2 years old. Before we adopted her, she had been abused by previous owners, which caused us to think that her vomiting and persistent diarrhea was due to a combination of her anxiety. Sometimes, she will go multiple days without eating, which we have noticed more frequently since Boscos death. We assumed that she has been depressed since she is also not as playful as she used to be when Bosco was around. I can't help but think that she has been trying to tell us something this whole time. After reading these other reviews, each sharing similar experiences with Nature's Domain, I feel tremendous regret for not seeing the signs sooner. I will be switching dog foods immediately, but wonder if, had I done so earlier, Bosco might still be here today.

Our German Shepherd has been eating Kirkland Nature's Domain Salmon kibble for approximately 1 year with no issues. He is an EPI dog (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) which in a nutshell means his pancreas does not produce the enzymes necessary to digest food, therefore, he must have a pancreatic enzyme supplement with each feeding.

We opened a new bag of Nature's Domain a few days ago, and our dog started getting the runs right away. At first I didn't connect it to the new dog food bag because this dog's digestive system can be sensitive, but now my suspicions are leaning in that direction because it's the only different thing that happened with his diet. By last night he had huge amounts of mucous diarrhea and mucous vomiting multiple times. This is extremely unusual for him. I am wondering if anyone else in Ontario Canada has experienced anything similar with Nature's Domain/Costco dog kibble? Mine was purchased at the Oshawa, Ontario store.

The ONLY concern I have ever had was three of my older dogs seemed to develop fatty lumps all at the same time, but that could just be a coincidence because of their age.

As we all know, dogs get sick sometimes, but if your dog or cat has been on a food for several years with no issues and all of a sudden gets diarrhea/vomiting, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's their food right away. I've had a bag of this food before give all my dogs diarrhea, I chalked it up to "it's probably a bad batch," took the bag back for a refund and got a few other bags with a different batch number.

It happens. It's dog food and is not as highly regulated like human food. I love this food for my dogs. It's affordable and VERY comparable to other high quality expensive dog foods like Natural Balance, Wellness etc. I buy 3 bags a month; I have purchased HUNDREDS of bags of this dog food and I will continue to do so. My dog has been suffering with a sudden onset of food allergies for about 6 weeks now - vomiting but mostly really bad diarrhea. We have been with the vet, running tests, on the phone, trying everything we could think of to solve this issue. Previously, my 8 yr. old lab ate everything and anything - no issues.

After putting him on home cooked chicken and rice for a while, it cleared up so we slowly started to introduce his foods - but the diarrhea always returned. We had not only the Lamb and Rice kibble, but also the combo cans of Lamb and Rice and Chicken and Rice wet food... Both by Kirkland AND the Kirkland Dog biscuits. The only combination that has stopped our dog's diarrhea was to take him off ALL Kirkland products as the symptoms continued after we stopped the kibble and wet, but still gave him the biscuits. Our only conclusion is that ALL the products are tainted. I'm with Jeff - Costco needs to make this right.

After reading all of these reviews I'm just feeling terrible now. My dog was on a higher end dog food or home cooked dog food for about the first 6-7 years of her life, but we then switched to the Kirkland brand Nature's Domain. She primarily got the chicken or turkey blend. Right before she turned 9 she had a vet emergency and was eventually diagnosed with a liver tumor. I was able to sustain her miraculously for 3.5 more years using mostly homemade food and natural medicine.

But now, I'm sitting here thinking about my cats who were also primarily on Kirkland brand cat food and they both ended up dying from kidney failure within about a year of each other. It seems hard to believe that all of this is just a coincidence, especially with the cats. They were all more elderly at the time but in retrospect they really started going more downhill after starting the Kirkland foods. They both got very skinny which at the time I just attributed to getting older but one of my cats was formerly overweight so it was much more noticeable. I only switched to this food with the increase in our family size over the years and the expense of the other foods I was previously purchasing. Plus, I've liked other Kirkland brand products and it was just easier to get the pet food while making a trip to Costco for other food items.

If it was in fact the food that caused my pet's health to decline well before it otherwise would have and also cost me thousands of dollars in vet bills, I'm going to feel awful. I wish there was a way for me to know for sure but with all of these other reviews and links to this food, I find my own story way too 'coincidental.' THREE WEEKS had passed and they had received no response!! I finally posted the photos of the webbing and worms and my story on their facebook page. The company contacted me and is now telling me the food was expired and that was why there was webbing and worms. I have expiration dates and production code numbers proving it was not.

One evening in May, a couple hours after eating her dinner, she started screaming/yelping, and came running down the stairs. We thought she might have been electrocuted because of the way she was seizing, eyes bloodshot and bulging out of her head. We drove straight to the emergency vet and she died in the car on the way there, about 15 minutes later.

At the vet, as we were saying our goodbyes, our 6-month-old schnauzer mix puppy threw up a large semi-solid chunk of food. We don't feed him Nature's Domain but he is a fanatical eater and steals food away from our dog any chance he gets. And that night, he got into the pantry and went to town. We thought the vomit might have been from the stress of the situation. Then that night he peed in the middle of our bedroom (he hadn't had an accident since he was 3 months old) and was acting a bit strange. Again, just thought it was the stress. Then the next morning around 5 am, he threw up again - this time watery vomit. I took him out to go potty and when he came inside he began seizing too. We rushed him to the vet and they were able to get his seizing under control but they continued every couple of hours for 3 days. We were so hopeful he would make it.

After paying over $3000 in vet bills, he died from the after effects of the seizing. His lungs had filled up with liquid and he was struggling to breathe. He drowned to death in his own body. For the longest time we could not figure out what had happened. We went through every single substance in our home and neighborhood along our daily walk path with a veterinary toxicologist and found nothing. The multiple vets we saw all agreed it was something they ate but there was NOTHING out of the ordinary about that day. Our cat was fine and although she loves dog food, she would never touch the Kirkland dog and stopped eating the Kirkland cat food after about a week of finicky eating. Now we know why.

DO NOT FEED THIS TO YOUR ANIMALS. It took us 3 and a half months to finally figure out it was the food, even though it's so obvious now. I was blinded by the fact that I love Costco and trusted that they have high quality standards for their products. People need to know and someone needs to be held accountable for killing my babies.

My last three dogs lived to be 11, 12 and 12 1/2 years and all past away due to old age. I have fed all my cats the Kirkland premium as well as the feral cats & kittens and no problems. I got on this site because I was going to change the dog's food to grain free, but looks like I'll stick to what's working well at the present. I will say that my neighbor did buy her dogs the salmon and sweet potatoes brand and her three dogs are no longer with us today.

We fed my 7-year-old Golden Retriever Nature's Domain food consistently for six years. I opted for the food based on Costco's reputation, the manufacturer and content. Two months ago, she stopped eating it very suddenly. She tried different flavors and finally two weeks ago, stopped eating the food again. She could barely walk and would only lay on the rug in our hall. Normally, she's a typical Golden and is bouncing off the walls. We rushed her to the vet to find out - after extensive testing - that she has acute renal failure and will now have to be on a modified diet and medicine for the rest of her life. She's only 7 and has been in great health prior to this incident. Our vet said he believes the damage is most likely due to her food. She never snacked and largely an inside dog. By process of elimination, we've determined it was Nature's Domain as it's the only thing she eats.

It breaks my heart to know that I opted to feed her food that put her in pain and compromised her life. I have formally complained to Costco and Diamond Pet Food. I don't know if that will do any good. But, I feel like I need to share my experience with others so they know what they may encounter if they feed their pets this food. I'm very disappointed as I've always trusted Costco to deliver quality goods. It's worth exploring other food options, especially if you want your pet to life a healthy and fulfilling life.

Came back from vacation on 7/31/16 and saw my ten yr old shepherd throw up. It continued till she was hospitalized on 8/4/16. She wasn't responding to IVs, antibiotics, steroids etc and transferred her to large hospital on 8/8/16. She had quit eating and became very weak. The new vet did everything she could think of including an $835 transfusion. They could not understand what had caused her liver failure so fast. $2000 later and she died last night. When I read these reviews I was shocked and I talked to the Diamond vet this morning. She is going to try for an autopsy on my shepherd. A few years ago I had an issue with Kirkland Signature Weight control blend bought at the Costco in Eugene, OR after years of feeding bags of it bought from a Costco in Independence, MO. My lab mix started drinking excessively, his urine became dark and eventually blood started showing up in it. He had a severe UTI which is very rare for a neutered male to get. After some research, I discovered that Kirkland dog foods commonly cause this. I stopped feeding it and switched to Blue Buffalo Healthy Weight and he immediately stopped overdrinking and became a lot better. Again, these are the symptoms/issues he displayed: overdrinking, excessive urination, producing little urine, dark urine, blood in urine, anxiety/distress.

Fast forward a few years later... I recently decided to try out Kirkland's Nature's Domain Salmon & Rice dog food, hoping that this "high quality" version of their food would end in better results. My parents feed their dog this brand, again bought from the Independence, MO Costco, and haven't had any issues. I bought my bag from a Costco in Eugene, OR. At first, my dog didn't even want to eat it- he's a lab, so he RARELY refuses to eat. Then when he got hungry enough, he developed these issues: regurgitation: spitting up his food, overdrinking, "gulping" and "hiccupping", hacking (almost like a cat does before it hacks up a hairball), high pH levels in urine.

I took him to the vet and they ran a full blood panel and took several radiographs, then put him on ** and ** to ease his digestion. The only abnormality in his lab work were high pH levels in his urine indicating that we were headed towards another UTI. I voiced my concern about his food to the vet, and the vet told me that high pH levels in urine caused by food can mean that the quality of meat in the food is very low. Dogs and cats are carnivores, so low-quality meat (with low protein) can cause bladder issues and the Kirkland food most likely had low-quality meat.

When I tried to slowly switch him off of the Kirkland food by mixing it with Blue Buffalo, he LITERALLY picked around the Kirkland food. He wouldn't touch it! Again, if you know labs you know they're pigs and this is very unusual behavior. So not only was it making him sick, but he HATED it. Normally I LOVE Kirkland brand products, but their dog food is not up to their normal standards. Lesson? Costco's Kirkland dog food might be cheaper but will likely cost you SO much more in vet bills.

Ok I'm shocked to see bad reviews on these items. I have been a boarding kennel owner operator for years. First I'll start out saying that My loved Staffordshire terrier Tara ate Costco Lamb and Rice, the dark green bag for years. She lived to be 18 years old. My vet said she forgot to die! My Pomeranian (someone never picked up from my kennel) was on Kirkland lamb and rice and his groomer told me I should put him on small breed Natural balance dry food. I thought maybe I should. He was only 10 pounds. In 24 hours he had a full blown allergic reaction. Ran him to the vet in the middle of night. His intestines were swollen... after 1500.00 bill, x-rays, and an overnight stay, I asked Dr. ** what do I feed this little guy. HE SAID "COSTCO LAMB & RICE." I said "You're kidding me." That is the only thing I will feed him. The reaction was 7 years ago no problem since.

I carry Costco lamb and rice dry dog food for dogs that have no food dropped off with them. No upset tummies!!! And they eat it. I use it to test a dog's health if they are not eating. They gobble it down 99% of the time!!! If they don't eat the dry, I put a tablespoon of the wet lamb and rice and if they don't eat that I watch them close. Luckily that rarely happens. I would be lost without these products!!! Also when I need to get a dog to take a pill all I have to do is make a small ball of wet lamb and rice from the can and they eat it right down. It's used to get a dog to start eating food brought from home. They can be a bit sad at first missing home and won't eat their own food from home and they gobble it down with a tablespoon of the wet Costco lamb and rice.

Notice I mention mostly lamb and rice canned cause the chicken & rice I'm very careful about using cause a lot of dogs are allergic to Chicken. Before I use it I make sure I find out if they are allergic to chicken from their owners. Ok that's all about this WONDERFUL product. Also all the venison, salmon, rabbit dog food are for dogs later in life after they develop worse allergies which tends to happen as dogs get older. If they can't handle the beef or chicken the next to try is LAMB and rice... that is my 2 cents worth. I've seen so many kinds of dog food... Costco Signature Lamb & rice has NEVER caused me a problem.

I write this with a heavy heart. June 30, 2016 My husband and I had to put our 10 year Dachshund Dottie to sleep due to Congestive heart failure and organ failure. I found these reviews too late. We live in Arizona. Back in April my husband and I purchased Kirkland Signature Salmon dog food for our 2 dogs. Dottie (mentioned above) and Nash our 8 year old Ridgeback Hound mix. Both of these dogs were extremely healthy and had gotten a clean bill of health from their Vet checks in Jan. About 10 days after eating the food is when we started to notice them getting ill. At first we thought it was due to us putting fertilizer down in our backyard for summer grass. We would remove them from the food, give them boiled chicken or beef and rice. They would get better then return to being ill. Dottie much worst than Nash. I believe because she was smaller.

We did everything we could think of besides chasing their food to help them. Nash was still lethargic and not as active but eating. Dottie would only eat the food if we doctored it up. Even then we had to force feed her but she resisted. We should have known better. We went as far as having our carpets and tile professional cleaned by a non chemical using company to help make her better. Nothing worked. We washed all their bedding with new sensitive laundry detergent. We changed their bathing shampoos to natural organic. Everything but changing the food. We are fools. Dottie went from being able to do my 5k runs with me to not leaving her bed or coming downstairs. The vet checked her for parasites, worms but nothing showed up. She was in organ failure. She finally was breathing so badly we took her in to find out she was literally drowning from the fluid in her lungs from congestive heart failure. All this happened within 2 months time.

We had to make the devastating call of putting our sweet Dottie who was my service dog to sleep. I am going to Costco today to file a complaint and to start to seek justice. We must speak for those whom can not speak for themselves. I will be also going to the BBB and filing a complaint there as well. We must stand up and allow justice to prevail and make this stop! Nash is on different food and doing much better - thank you Lord. But only because I researched new food for him and I ran across these reviews. It was too late. I hope no one else has to experience what I did seeing my Dottie struggling to breathe and live.

After about a week/10 days after starting the new bag, she began to refuse to eat this food (would eat other food) and then about 13 days after starting this food, she began vomiting and having diarrhea. Took her to vet (other dog who's on diff food also refusing to eat and having issues) and while we discovered a parasite, vet still had concern food may be an issue exacerbating things.

I will NOT be feeding her any more of this and will be throwing out the rest (nearly a full bag) and going back to the brand she was previously on. Like others, I'm very concerned about the GI issues that seemed to start just after I opened this new bag. Our son's dog had the same experience and after $1,000 of veterinary cost all they could point a finger at was Kirkland dog food. Note: I know my next statement is going to upset most of you readers; nevertheless, I strongly believe it true.

As for Costco: They're not the real players in this hazardous game, which has already caused pets eating Kirkland brand to die, and with a dog population in the U.S. into the millions, we can safely assume that the end result of casualties and sick pets could be 100,000s. As for Kirkland: Yes just the simple fact that Kirkland Markets this product; by Law this establishes their endorsement of said product, making them liable in a Court of Law. The Manufacturer: Diamond Pet Foods, Inc. and Schell and Kampeter, Inc. They are the real criminals/culprit; And the only way to cure this problem is for those injured parties of dogs which have subdued to dog heaven, to get off their behind, stand-up and be heard in a Court of Law. Manufacturers and owners listed below. Who to Blame: Hang on to your skirts boys. Yes I meant (skirts!) because today's passive, indolent, lazy, indifferent American society is where the blame honestly lays.

I lived in Italy for eleven years and if this incident were to occur in Italy, for that Matter in all of Europe, the public would be knocking at the manufacturers door demanding a complete shut-down production and the manufacturers would. The difference, quite simply, Europeans stand up for their right unlike Americans who procrastinate and have no real power to force these companies to shut-down.

I saw another bag of the same dog food on the returns shelf. I asked why that was brought back. The guy wouldn't answer me. I have been researching this and it looks like it's a bad batch. It was a gradual blend to include the Kirkland's Nature's Domain and quickly one dog acted like she had a allergy sensitivity. She has NEVER had diarrhea before, but it happened. I took her off the blend thinking it was her breed. Diarrhea stopped. The next one started to have issues, he's never really had too much of a problem. I took him off the new blend. Diarrhea stopped. The other two seemed to be happier and much more energetic. I continued to keep them on the new blend, thinking the other two were only having a reaction to type of food. Then the next one started and he always has bouts of diarrhea. All he has to do is look at any cheese or rich meat and he gets diarrhea. Just in case I took him off the new blend. Diarrhea stopped.

Now a few days later the fourth dog gets diarrhea. Going to take her off and see what happens. Other 3 are fine now using the single type of grain, soy, and corn free dog food that is from another manufacturer. I do believe something is wrong with Kirkland's ND food. We have never had issues with a 2 blend mix except years ago when we got caught up in the Diamond pet food mess and it was 5 dog mess then. My mistake for letting my guard down on staying away from Diamond pet products. Didn't know Kirkland's ND was a Diamond product. This is pretty good evidence. Our vet has come to this conclusion with all the evidence we have at this point. Our dog has been on other brands (Acana) and has been on a diet of lean beef and rice to settle her digestion. I get the feeling that no one wants to do much after filing an incident report but blame it on my dog's sensitivity to something. Personally I feel that it is likely some kind of chemical contamination in the food. Either way I am turned off of both companies as they appear to be more concerned about diffusing the issue than really investigating it. I recommend people file an incident report. I wish I did not have to give this food any stars. Please do not feed your dog ANY food that is made by this company. I went from having an extremely healthy and happy mastiff pup (boerboel) to caring for an extremely sick one overnight. The onset of illness was pretty sudden. I put him through multiple vet visits, rounds of medication, emergency room visits (and more), before finally making the connection that the food (Natures Domain kibble) he was consuming was poisoning him. In the beginning, I noticed a sudden lack of interest in his food.

This was abnormal as he is the type of dog to inhale his food (as much as possible using a slow feeder). I figured he had been fed more treats than normal lately because of his training, so I started "doctoring" up the food a little to get him to eat. Even then, he would slowly eat the kibble. After he began vomiting (10 times in the span of 3 hours), it was obvious something was wrong. Over the next few days, he developed severe diarrhea and could not keep anything down. He was on a strict diet of bland chicken and rice for an extended amount of time and lost close to 20 lbs. Lab results showed poor kidney function and he became very dehydrated.

He eventually started turning the corner, and at this point, I slowly began reintroducing Natures Domain kibble again. At this point, he became violently ill once again. I feel beyond horrible that I was feeding him poison and that I had begun reintroducing the very same food to his system that could have killed him. As soon as he stopped eating this food he slowly began to recover. He has also gained the weight back (and is still gaining). I am extremely upset that this food continues to be sold. Sharing this story, so others will hopefully save their dogs from unnecessary pain and suffering, extensive medical bills and possibly death.

Thinking his stomach was only tender I did not worry. When I came home last night Tank refused treats and food.

This morning I took the dog to the vet. When vet did blood work it showed my dog's liver was in bad shape and his vital numbers were in the extreme range. When the vet asked if the dog had gotten into any poisons I replied, "none that I know of." Now the dog is on an IV with hopes to recover. Wish I had read some of the other reviews of this dog food. If I had, my Beagle Tank and I might have been spared all this trauma. The vet said Tank will have permanent liver damage and might have to be put down. I will know more in the next 24 hours.

She developed horrible gas to the point it was hard to snuggle and be near her, developed diarrhea, she was starting to get lethargic and finally puked after eating before I decided to get new food for her. Within a few days of eating the new food and off the poison she is starting to act normal and with less gas.

They usually are not this fussy. I bought a different brand within the last week and was going to contact Costco to find out if there are any recalls or formula changes to explain their behaviour. After reading other comments I'm wondering if the dogs are smart and know something is wrong with it.

I purchased a 40 pound bag of Kirkland Lamb and rice dog food from Costco just one time. I normally buy a different brand but thought I'd give it a try because it was cheaper. Worst mistake ever. My 8 year old mastiff/pitbull mix, had 2 cups and 6 hours later, at 2 am; he was in a full grand Mal seizure. Over the following 6 hours he had 2 more. When I got him to the vet he had another. After full blood work the vet could find nothing wrong with him except that I had changed his food. He had another seizure right there before I could leave. The vet gave him an anti inflammatory and a shot of valium and I took him home. He had two more before he finally laid there and went to sleep. He slept all night and ate his regular food the next day and he has not had another seizure since. The vet said he must have an allergy to something in that new food.

After reading these reviews about KIRKLAND brand dog foods I am convinced it was the food that caused my otherwise completely healthy dog to have 7 seizures in one day. After one bowl of new food. Beyond the vet bill, the emotional suffering was horrific. Watching our "baby" go thru that because I saved $10.00 on dog food was devastating. Surprisingly, he is just fine now with what seems like no lasting damage. But what the heck!

The other problem about this product is the can itself. About 25% of the time the PULL TAB on the top of the can gets PULLED OFF when trying to open can. Leaving a can that is unable to be opened. Because, once the pull tab is missing, and the lid is still on, it is impossible to remove the lid, even using a can opener. It is a real design problem with the can and its lid. And the sharp lid is dangerous.

We bought several bags of Kirkland's nature domain dog food. We gave two of these bags to our daughter. We have a Mastiff German Shepherd mix dog and our daughter has a great Dane. Our dog became critically ill. He became lethargic and refused to eat. We spent hundreds of dollars at the vet doing x-rays, ultrasounds, and blood work. The analysis showed severe liver complications. We took him home from the vet to spend a couple of more days with him as the vet recommended to put him down. During that time at home we changed his diet to rice and meat. Almost immediately he began to respond.

Now he's almost back to normal. A few days later our daughter's Great Dane became very sick. She changed the dog's diet and he also recovered. Based on the lab work and analytical testing done on our dog, and the response to the change of diet, clearly we got a bad batch of dog food. Our trust level with this product has been eroded. We are returning what we have left and changing brands. Costco is an excellent company but we believe that they should pull this product from their shelf.

I think that the food probably arrives safe, but the variables that it goes thru before getting to your home could have an effect on the food. Also, think about the time you bought the food when your dogs began having problems. Was it summer or during fluctuations of temperatures? Last week, my father and I got new dog treats for my dog thinking "Hey, they are made in the us and they are grain free. We will give it a shot." We gave him the treat at 7pm on Friday October 16th. My husband woke me up at 4am. Snoopy had projectile diarrhea, shaking, panting, and vomiting. He was going outside every half hour but by 5am, his poop was red. Our poor baby had blood coming out with his poop and I'm not talking just a little red tint, I'm talking nothing but blood. We called the vet, got him in at 830 am, she looked him over, said "Yes. It's from the treats." She took him in the back, gave him 2 injections and fluids, said to give him the anti vomiting meds and to feed him chicken and rice, and that if it didn't get any better, to take him to the Animal Hospital.

Well, we took him home. He was able to sleep. He was fine for the rest of Sat and most of Sunday then, Sunday night, it all started all over again. He had projectile diarrhea. He wasn't throwing up because of the meds we were giving him but the shaking and panting were all there. When we got him to the hospital, the doctor there ran a lot of test on him to see if his blood would show anything. This vet said the same thing, it's the treats. She gave us anti diarrhea meds and a probiotic, said he was only to eat the chicken and rice for a while. She said that it would take a couple of days for the treats to work out of his system.

On Monday, I called Kirkland Nature's domain and told them what happened and that they are paying my vet costs. It happened from their treats. Well they called me back today, Friday October 23rd 2015, and said the only thing they can do is give me a 100 dollar gift card to Costco. What makes you think I wanna shop there again after what has happened to my poor baby? I'm talking to my lawyer and I'm suing them. I've seen all the reviews on here about everyone's babys and these people shouldn't be making dog food or treats whatsoever. I hope you all do the same as me and take it to the next level. We have 3 German Shepherds about 3 years old, and one Pit Bull around 10 yrs old. We started giving them all the Nature's Domain grain-free Salmon/Sweet Potato about 2 1/2 years ago (early 2013). * months later the 3 shepherds got sick - one at a time over 6 weeks. They all got sick in their crates... The most vile vomit ever. I wasn't sure it was vomit or diarrhea until I saw them throw it up 3 times in 30 minutes in my living room. It smelled worse than anything I'd ever smelled (and we have 3 boys!) & it permeated the entire house for hours even with windows open (in December, so it wasn't fun having the windows open!).

Took a sample to our vet and they found nothing. We gave her chicken and rice for a week and then started back on the same food. About that time, dog #2 got sick, then #3. Everyone was eating chicken and rice for a few weeks, except the pit. She never got sick. We started them back on the same food and have not had any tummy troubles until this September 2015 but it was just one dog - one episode of throwing up the diarrhea-looking stuff in his crate, and we gave him rice and chicken for a few days and he was fine. Otherwise, they are energetic and happy young dogs.

I am torn, though, about feeding this to them with all the problems that have been reported over the last 3-4 years. Having 4 dogs is not cheap, and it was wonderful to find this grain-free food for a great price and all 4 dogs do well on it. Even the pit doesn't have much gas with this food, and pits tend to have bad gas! How can this awful stuff be happening to dogs randomly over 4 years?! Is the plant where this is made in need of more frequent and intense inspections... Maybe some ingredient is going bad earlier than the rest of the ingredients and then a batch is made that makes dogs sick!?

I have routinely purchased Kirkland's Signature Nature's Domain Beef Meal & Sweet Potato Formula for my German Shepherd, since Kirkland first began carrying this product. This past Wed, my dog was pacing, at 4 a.m., needing to go outside. She had voluminous extraordinarily soft stool with mucous and the same Wed evening. By Thursday afternoon, she was vomiting, and by Thursday evening, she had projectile vomiting and diarrhea with spots of red blood. I was surprised, as my dog has been under my care for 6 1/2 years, and she has always been very healthy with very normal bowel movements, and she never has had an accident in the house. She is a house dog and does not have any contact with other animals or environments; therefore, she is less likely to acquire a contagious canine infection. We also do not feed our girl table scraps or any other treats.

Baffled, I was trying to recount the timeline for the onset of her symptoms, and I realized I had just bought and opened a brand new bag of the Nature's Domain dog food on Tuesday evening, and fed my dog around 8:30 p.m. We noticed her 1st symptoms 7 1/2 hours later, the following morning at 4:00 a.m., when she was pacing & trying to wake us up to let her outside. Her symptoms became progressively worse, by Thurs, resulting in spots of blood in her stool & voluminous vomiting. I suspected the dog food, due to the onset of her symptoms being shortly after opening the new bag of dog food.

I immediately decided to check to see if perhaps there's been a recent recall of which I was not aware, and I discovered this forum with other complaints, written within the past several weeks, of symptoms very similar to what my dog is experiencing. I am writing this review to get the word out to other dog owners as soon as possible, as these types of symptoms can quickly cause fatal dehydration. I will be notifying Costco tomorrow.

We have always looked for high-quality dog food with no corn. On our last visit to Costco we saw the Kirkland Nature's Domain brand dog food had top notch ingredients and wouldn't mind saving a little money and had generally found Kirkland brand products to be excellent. What a mistake that was. Within 3 days she become weak and lethargic and could no longer go up the stairs and looked dazed and confused. We brought her to our vet and asked if the food could be the cause of the problem. He said no because dogs that have trouble with food either throw up or have diarrhea. I called the Kirkland dog food company and asked where the dog food was made and if there had been any issues reported about the product.

I was assured that the dog food was made in the USA and there had been no reported problems. The vet was stumped and found that she had a high white blood count and put her on an antibiotic, which may have saved her life. Unfortunately we did not stop the Kirkland food immediately. He took a complete set of x-rays and a set of her GI tract. There was no evidence of a tumor or blockage and she kept getting worse. However we decided to stop the food as just a precaution a few days later. She immediately started to improve once we stopped the Kirkland food. 2 days later we found this website that listed all of the problem people were having with the latest batch of food. She has improved every day and is almost back to her old energetic self. This is however after spending over $600 in vet bills that I feel Kirkland should reimburse. In August, I purchased a bag that my dog refused to eat; we're lucky in that his vomiting was mild, and his only other symptom was lethargy. I was concerned that he had cancer or some sort of organ failure, never thinking it could be the food. When I finally made the connection, Costco stepped up and told me to bring back any remaining food for a full refund. I switched over to a beef formula that day, and my dog ate as though he'd been starving. He had. I still feel terrible that I didn't pick up on it sooner. I did notice yesterday at Costco that the section reserved for the salmon formula was empty.

On Sept 15, 2015 I purchased 2 bags of Kirkland Signature brand dog food from Costco Pointe Claire in Montreal. (1) Chicken, Rice & Vegetable & (1) Lamb Rice & Vegetable. I proceeded to mix the (2) two bags half and half in the container as I always do. (The containers are regularly cleaned & dried accordingly) I have two large dogs: 6 1/2 Bailey my 110 lb Doberman and Hunter who is only 1.5 years @ 135 lbs due to his Bloodhound/Lab Cross. On Tuesday night, they proceeded to eat from the new bags purchased that evening. Hunter vomited that night. They ate the next morning, but both vomited later that day. At that time I had not made the connection that it could be the food, even though I had been having issues with Bailey eating this food in the past and have visiting this site before so am very familiar of all the complaints.

Food was left out for them that evening by my kids that evening. Neither of them ate. The next morning they still didn't eat. At this time, I honestly thought that they were recovering from their vomiting session and simply needed to let it pass through them. They didn't have any other symptoms and were not bothering me for food as Bailey ALWAYS does like clockwork! To make a long story short, by the time Friday night came and I arrived home just after midnight (Sat AM) after being out since Friday morning, my kids confirmed that they still hadn't eaten. It was now very clear in my mind that there was something very wrong with the food. Hunter is really not fussy about his food like Bailey is, after all, Hunter is still puppy like! It had been 2 days since they had a proper feeding. It had to be the food!

Saturday morning I proceeded to contact Costco and explained the situation. I advised them that my concern was not that they would refund the money, as I have never had a problem with Costco and Returns. My concern was if my dogs became sick from the dog food and who would be responsible for the Vet Bills. Would their supplier be accountable? Costco was very helpful and had me come in and fill out a form to be forwarded to their Insurance Company in the event something would happen. They processed the return and I left with an ALTERNATE BRAND of dog food. Once home, I immediately fed Hunter and Bailey. Oh were they ever Happy Campers! I was talking to a friend saying this new food was like speed for them as they were so hyper! I had to try to keep them calm so they could digest as it had been days since they ate. Finally after 20 minutes I let them outside.

Ten (10) minutes later they were both at the door to be let back in, and Hunter was gravely injured. His knee is badly injured and I cannot afford treatment. If it is broken or dislocated, he would not even be a candidate for surgery because of his weight and would most likely have to be put down. I am devastated! I feel guilty that I didn't change the food months ago, that it took me so long to realize that it was the food! I have had to put my pride aside and open a go fund me account, but time is of the essence. Both Costco and Costco Insurance broker has followed up with me days after my return to see how things are. I have shared my story and I know that I cannot directly hold anyone accountable for this unfortunate accident, but at least they both share some kind of sympathy towards me and the situation.

Kirkland brand Vet called me today and I told him exactly the same information. I didn't even get a sorry to hear about your dog, or I hope that everything works out! Nice! I have no problems with Costco and love the staff at the location I shop at. If you have issues with the Kirkland Brand dog food, please keep the receipts, take a picture of the lot, return the food and ask the store to let you fill out the form so you can open an insurance claim (even if nothing comes about). The insurance company makes a note of every incident. There will be no changes if we, the consumers do not do anything about it. Let us not lose any more of our furry loved ones!

I have two dogs that ate the Kirkland Adult Lamb and Rice food for about 3 years. As others have said I think they changed the formula in the 3rd year (2014) and the younger dog kept vomiting it up. It became a daily occurrence that we attributed to his eating fast and drinking too much water. As time went on, I found bloody stools out in the dog run. That only took me once to start looking online for a cause and I found that many have complained of the same problem. They have been off of the Kirkland food for about 9 months and no more vomiting or bloody stools. I switched them to Blue Buffalo lamb and rice and have no more problems.

I have fed my female German Shepherd Nature's Domain Salmon and Sweet Potato since she has been 16 weeks with no problems. I just purchased a new bag at the end of August. My dog started itching intensely within a day of feeding the new bag to her. She has no fleas or no sign of fleas or parasites on her. The only thing that is new is the new bag we purchased. She has vomited in the last couple of days also and has gone off her food. I now know after finding this site that it is the food. I found out Diamond makes the food, and have been involved in several recalls over the last several years. Costco you need to make this right!!

I just read all these crazy bad reviews - and felt I had to give my opinion which has been super positive. My puppy is a 4 month old Australian Shepherd and I had him on a few different foods from the pet store that were really expensive and he didn't like them, and he was really itchy all the time. I was getting pretty frustrated trying to find the right fit for the poor little guy. A lot of my neighbors were telling me that their dogs were all doing well on the Costco dog food - so I thought I would give it a try.

I got the Nature's Domain Salmon and Sweet Potato. My puppy liked it right away and has been eating it for the last 6 weeks. What a huge difference it has made. His coat is super shiny and silky, he has gained weight and is so healthy. And the itching is gone. I feel so happy that Costco has made this wonderful food. I really just don't understand these strange reviews? I think when you initially switch a dog's food they do get a little tummy upset and have problems. But after 2 weeks they have adjusted. Our switch has been extremely positive and my puppy is a happy and healthy little guy!

Last time I went to Costco's they didn't have the Lamb & Rice, so I bought the Kirkland's Chicken & Rice. My German Shepherd starting get diarrhea immediately. She was very sick, the insides of her ears were beet red. It was horrible how miserable she was. I stopped feeding her the Kirkland's and put her on Fromm's and she's doing much better. I will not be buying the Kirkland's food anymore. Especially after reading all of these posts. Something is definitely going terribly wrong with this dog food. Kirkland Salmon and Sweet Potato Dog Food - Over the last week our dog has had diarrhea (sometimes with blood and mucus) and we couldn't seem to figure out why. We had tried new treats with him and thought maybe it was the treats, so we stopped those about 2 days ago. Was still having issues but I figured give it a couple days to get it out of his system. Finally this morning, after having him get me up to let him out 3 times in the middle of the night, it finally clicked that it may be the dog food as we had just bought a new bag this week. After reading the reviews and complaints about the dog food, which my dog has also been on this food for about a year with no issues in the past, I will be switching him over to something new today in hopes this stops the bloody/mucusy diarrhea and see if I can get our happy little guy back to normal.

On 8/27/15 I lost my best friend of 13 years. I relive the 26th a lot in my head because I am not sure if what happened to her was due to the food but I have hard to believing that it wasn't. I had purchased a brand new bag of Kirkland Salmon and Sweet Potato. It's not the first time I have fed it to her but it would be the last. She took a couple of bites out of her bowl and slowly over the next couple of hours she started becoming bloated. The bloat ended up taking her life.

She was completely normal prior to this and she was able to do her normal stuff such as bathroom and what-not, but it was not until after I fed her the first batch out of a brand new bag that she suddenly got very sick. Unfortunately I have no way to prove it was the food but based on how Bloat comes about, I have no reason to believe that it wasn't the food. And now that I see that other dogs are getting sick due to Kirkland Dog Food, it leads to be believe there is a much larger problem here that NEEDS to be fixed before more pups get sick or lose their lives. I miss her every day and it makes me sad that my poor choice in dog food is what may have killed her....

We have two dogs that have been eating Kirkland brand dog food, the salmon and sweet potato variety. They both have been on the food for about a year. Two weeks ago, our 3.5 year old Shepard mix threw up a bit in the morning (abnormal for her), then later in the day started throwing up blood. We thought she had gotten into something... She commonly chews up stuff out of the bathroom garbage cans. Took her to the vet. They gave her a Cerenia anti-nausea shot and was fine for about 24 hours.

A day later when the meds wore off, we woke up to diarrhea, vomit and urine EVERYWHERE in the house. Took her to the vet for xrays to make sure she didn't ingest an object. I had to carry her our of the car and she wouldn't move off the floor in the exam room and defecated on herself gross, clear liquid and was so exhausted she didn't even bother to move. The xray showed a large gas bubble and when they xrayed her later it hadn't moved so the vet urged for exploratory surgery due to the possibility of a foreign body. They found NOTHING but very, very, VERY angry intestines.

Put her on a soft diet and was fine the whole week. Then slowly started integrating the Kirkland brand food back in her diet and today started vomiting AGAIN and is restless. Switching foods immediately and looking into legal action. After reading this, there seems to be a LOT of complaints. If there's a class action suit we'd be very interested in participating after her suffering and getting a 3000 dollar vet bill.

We have been feeding our large dog (Mastiff/Boxer mix) this brand of dog food for about 3 years. He was thriving on it, and enjoyed it. Even our old dogs liked it. 2 weeks ago he began having explosive diarrhea w/ blood in it, gums and nose are WHITE, he has become so sick. After doing everything possible to keep food on his stomach, including going to cooked chicken, beef livers (because I knew he needed iron to replace red blood cells, or at least help in that regard), ground beef, and we began feeding him "dog log" (the name I give the large roll of fresh dog food we purchase and feed our old Chihuahua because he has tooth loss at age 16 and needed a soft food), and FORCING WATER DOWN HIS THROAT BECAUSE HE EVEN BEGAN REFUSING TO DRINK, he finally began to turn the corner... a bit.

He has a long way to go. The ADULT DOG CHICKEN RICE & VEGETABLE FORMULA made w/ FRESH CHICKEN food from Kirkland that we have purchased from Costco for the past 3 years has had SOMETHING wrong added to the formula... something! Nothing else has caused the problem we are now experiencing, and as noted above, changing his diet has been the only thing to improve his health crisis! I thought I was going crazy, thinking it could be the DOG FOOD, but IT IS THE DOG FOOD!! We are praying that he continues to improve, but he has a very long way to go! His gums and nose are still almost white in color. If it were not a traumatic event to take him to see a veterinarian, we would RUN there, but his health... tentative right now... is at risk and even taking him to the vet might be the last straw!

PEOPLE - THIS IS HOW SICK OUR BELOVED PET BECAME IN JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS! And, I continued to feed him this sorry excuse for dog food because it did NOT occur to me that it could be the food that was making him sick! IT IS THE FOOD, I don't care what Costco, the makers of Kirkland, or anyone else has to say about it! I'm not an idiot, and I am determined to take this to the mats to make whomever is responsible for making our dog sick responsible for what has been the worst period of dog rearing in our lives, and the life of our much-loved dog! PLEASE, anyone reading this - IT IS THE DOG FOOD!! Make your complaints known! Something has to be done to fix this so that a dog with a weakened immune system, or even an aged/old dog, does not die BECAUSE OF FOOD WE HAVE BEEN CONVINCED IS GOOD FOR OUR PETS!

Finding these other complaints on this Consumer Affairs website makes me sick, but I am so glad my husband decided to look after I thought out loud, "Hey, do you think it could be the dog food?" Thank God I said it out loud! I am including the ISBN of the bag of food since I am too much of a computer dork to know how to attach a picture. But I AM keeping what's left of the bag of food so I have proof that we purchased it (we have a membership at Costco, and it shouldn't be hard to prove we bought the dog food even if we did not keep the receipt - the only thing we bought at that last Costco visit was DOG FOOD)! :o( We're "ANGRY in BAKERSFIELD, CA!"

I have been dealing with key people at both Costco and their supplier, Diamond Pet food, since March and I have watched these complaints increase. Same issues with my Chocolate Lab, high liver indicators, very expensive weekend at Animal Hospital with follow up visits and medication. Per top executive at Diamond they supply Costco well over 300,000 bags of dog food per week and there are going to be issues! I spoke with a VP at Costco and a Vet at Diamond who told me all they had done to upgrade the facilities, but nobody would tell me what they are doing to solve these current issues. One simple question regarding whether or not they have any quality control teams or people in place in emails to same execs and CEO at both companies have gone unanswered. They will happily take back our bag of dog food, but they cannot tell me what is causing these common problems we are all facing to one degree or the other.

In excess of 300,000 bags per week is big business. The dog food industry is a huge business, but until people search out the email addresses of the key executives at these companies nothing will be done. They are accountable to stockholders and investors. Search out sources on the internet for other dog food brands and do the research to see how they rate. I found a couple of other sources who supply very high quality products and my dogs are now very healthy.

We have four dogs. Two we feed prescription dog food, and the other two we have been feeding Costco Kirkland brand dog food. We've been buying the grain free varieties. We recently switched to the Nature's Domain Organic Chicken food. After a couple of weeks one of our dogs began throwing up, and then began refusing to eat her food. This was very unusual for her. We thought she may have a tummy bug. After four days of trying to coax her to eat and her being sick our other dog began vomiting after she ate her food as well. Our second dog then began refusing to eat her food as well. Our other two dogs on their prescription food were fine.

We realized it had to be the dog food. We switched to another brand of food and within two days our dogs were back to normal. We hadn't realized the two that became sick had actually become lethargic and stopped playing with their toys, etc. We were shocked at how different and more playful they became as soon as we stopped feeding the Kirkland dog food. As soon as we made the food connection I searched online and found many recent problems with the Kirkland dog food brands and felt it important to comment on our experience as well before more dogs are made ill.

I just purchased the new improved Kirkland brand with probiotic. Feed dogs Sunday evening and by Monday morning, vomit from my big Golden. Took him to the vet and couldn't find any problem. Vet gave him Cerenia anti vomit shot. He is recovering but doesn't want the Kirkland food. I'm feeding him cooked chicken and beef but full appetite hasn't yet returned. Waiting for the Cerenia to get clear from his system. Only change has been the improved Kirkland food. My smaller golden seems to be able to tolerate, but I'm afraid to keep her on this food. I will be returning the Costco food and looking into another brand this weekend. Until then, I'm putting both on homemade beef and veg stew.

We have been feeding our dogs this Nature's Domain for the last 2 years. A few weeks ago our Shetland Sheepdog began acting sick and couldn't keep any of her food down - she started vomiting everywhere and acting lethargic. She was nursing a litter of one-week-old puppies and we were concerned about their health as well. After talking with our vet, we gave her some anti-nausea meds and tried her on a different brand of food that was supposed to be more nutritional (since we thought maybe the food didn't have enough nutrients). Within a few days she was back to normal so we kept her on the new brand of food. A few days after that, our Papillon started acting lethargic, vomiting, and having diarrhea. We continued to feed him but gave him some anti-nausea medication and watched him to see if he was showing any improvements. After another 2 days of acting sick, he started to get much worse and had dropped down to just 4 lbs body weight.

We took him to the emergency vet who did some tests and nothing came back strange on his blood work. They sent us home with a digestive care canned food, and suggested we keep him on that until he shows some recovery. The next morning we followed up with our regular vet who didn't find anything outstanding, but suggested that the food might be causing issues. We checked online for other reviews and found this site, with many situations similar to ours. At that point we took all of our food back to the store and started a claim with the manufacturer. If your dogs have been having similar issues, make sure to get the details from the bag such as the Lot ID and expiration date, and submit a claim with the manufacturer. Costco was good about accepting our return, but the quality claim needs to go through the manufacturer.

My mature German Shepherd had been eating the Kirkland Lamb brand of dried dog food for over two years. Recently, within the last 45 days, I have been to the vet because of projectile vomiting and diarrhea. I have been so overwhelmed because he has been really sick, and I went through the process of elimination, and now I truly feel it was his food. I am so distraught because I have had to make expenditures because of his stomach issues.

He has no parasites, yet he has been ill. I have cleaned my carpet more than a dozen times, and I have had to watch my dog go through drastic physical changes because he was so ill. I was considering putting him down because he was so ill, and now I am convinced it was the food. Until the last 45 days I was satisfied with this product. I think a class action suit should be filed against Kirkland Pet Foods the maker of this contaminated food. I am seeking compensation for medical bills and for the poisoned food that I purchased from COSTCO.
