My furbabies had been eating Purina Friskies wet cat food and shortly after my purchase my 2 Senior started Vomiting and Diarrhea, sometimes missing the litter box! I heard about cats getting sick after eating this product, read some seriously bad reviews, I immediately stopped feeding them this garbage and I will be returning all unused products. Moving forward my cats will not be fed this garbage ever again and Once they stopped eating it all their symptoms have improved!!!

I have 2 momma cats that have both given birth in the last 6 weeks plus their kittens. I purchased 3 40 can variety packs this month. First, 1 of the momma cats started going outside the box which isn't her usual behavior. She clearly had uncontrollable pooping issues that were foul smelling, off color & runny. She was born in my house and has never been outside. I started trying everything as within a week they were all sick. Looked for recalls and didn't see any. Finally came here and discovered there are many sick kitties from Ocean Whitefish & Tuna. I had ordered these cases by mistake as I usually feed the Friskies fillets. I have taken them off wet food all together as I can't afford to replace the catfood till payday and the problem is slowly clearing up. I am so disappointed in Friskies. They should be ashamed of themselves for not recalling these cans. I will never buy their products again.

I foster kittens for a rescue and there are kittens located at 3 locations. We noticed some similar symptoms: vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, not eating. Kittens were getting very sick and nearly dying from dehydration and lethargy. From reading the reviews here, we concluded that the only similarity among the 3 locations is the food we feed them and the plant numbers are 1159 and 1161. We changed to a different food and the symptoms have stopped. I have concluded that the food is poisonous and it's too bad that Friskies will not look into this more based on all of these reviews. They are indifferent and do not care and refuse to take any blame. I will never purchase from this company again.

I read a warning about Friskies canned cat food with identifying numbers 1157, 1159, and 1161 making cats sick. Fortunately, our cats haven't had this problem, but those same numbers are on the cans we've been feeding our cats. So I called Purina and was told that those numbers are plant numbers, not batch numbers. I don't know how many plants Purina has, but apparently, at least three of them are producing contaminated food. I asked the Purina representative to report this problem to her superiors, but she just kept repeating that there is no recall. We are no longer feeding our cats Friskies.

I have 6 cats from ages 13 to 1. Have always used Friskies wet food. Last week one of my cats started peeing on floor. This week all the cats are just laying around (unusual) & 2 of them are throwing up....about 2 hours after eating. Checked food. It's batch #1159. After reading reviews on this site & others I will never use this food again. What REALLY gets me is the company refusal to acknowledge there might be something wrong with this particular batch. They are basically calling us all liars.

I have 3 cats and the youngest (around 2yrs) came down with horrible diarrhea a week ago. He was contained for almost a week while I worked to treat him. I noticed my next cat (3yr old) was showing signs of diarrhea last night and then just now my 10 yr old cat just projectile vomited. When the youngest started I thought he may of eaten a little bug since he likes to hang out around the back door and he was the only one sick. Once my oldest threw up I looked into the wet food being that’s one thing all three have in common and sure enough after reading the reviews my batch ends in 1159???? They need to issue a recall because obviously there is a problem! I’m returning what’s left to Walmart today.

I have 2 15 year old cats. That have always been skin sensitive allergies. Even tried making our own cat food with directions from vet. Finally Friskies wet food twice a day and I always leave dry food out by Friskies for them. I'm so happy and relieved their skin is clear, weight perfect, health is amazing. Vets and other people can't believe they are 15. They play and run around like they are one. I recommend this brand and company 100 percent. Sandra

My babies have been eating Friskies canned 3 days a week for 10 years with no issues. Recently after purchasing a 40 pack I noticed Kurtis, my 9 year old boy would not eat it, and then after the other finished, some of them started vomiting, and this was more than the occasional hairball, then I noticed the runny stools in the litter box, and it just got worse. Some had got so bad (diarrhea) after eating the Friskies canned chicken and gravy batch 1159 that they stopped being able to make it to the litter box and crapped all over the floor. I just had to wash ** off the back of my 24 lb Boy. After finding this site, I checked my batch number. Sure enough, 1159. I'll be contacting Purina, parent company of Friskies, at 1-800-778-8864, and see what they have to say. I will update the status.

I have been feeding my cats Friskies wet food (and dry food) for over 13 years. I have always wondered why they only eat the gravy and waste so much of the fillets or shreds (pate is sometimes okay). Today I poured the leftovers in the sink instead of the garbage can like I normally do. When I tried to mash up the fillets small enough to go down the drain I realized the fillets are like TOTAL RUBBER! I will definitely look for a better wet food (Fancy Feast is much better) and will never feed them Friskies wet food ever again.

My cat is almost 12 years old, I fed him Friskies Beef Shreds almost his entire live, since he liked that flavor the best.I knew something was very wrong when he started puking more and more. Then he refused to eat or drink at all. Then I saw bloody diarrhea. I panicked and took him to the vet who suggested I change his nutrition. At first I couldn’t believe that this food could have caused all of these problems. When I stopped feeding him the Friskies and started feeding him Royal Canin 12 plus... he miraculously made a rapid and complete recovery.

We have 2 indoor cats and 3 outside we have adopted. Over the last month all have become sick throwing up and diarrhea. Trying to figure out what is going on we realized the food we were feeding them was the issue. Realizing the common denominator in this illness was the food we decided to research the Friskies canned food. Immediately the exact symptoms and experience was right in front of us through other's reviews. We immediately reached out to Purina Friskies and was completely shocked at the disregard for what is going on with their product and the denial that there is a problem.

I asked for a different supervisor 3 times and each was oblivious to the problem. I then suggested they pick up their personal phone and Google their own products because the reviews were stark and right in front of you for the world to see. Again they acted like they have never heard this and I was told anyone can put what they want on the internet. Well I can tell you I don't write reviews typically but in a life or death situation I feel it's my obligation to inform people that you are possibly doing harm to your animals with this product. Things happen and companies make mistakes that's understandable but to not own up to it and continue to put a dangerous product on the shelves is inexcusable... I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN. THEY ARE IN TOTAL DENIAL AND ARE AWARE OF THE SITUATION.

I Googled for recalls and happened upon this site. I'm in Canada. My cans are coded with "1161", not 1159 like others have reported. I let my sister know because she feeds her cats the same stuff. She has 1159 cans and barfing cats as well.

We had 4 cats Scruffy, Pusspuss, Fat Cat and Zorro. Zorro and Fat Cat refused to eat the Friskies can food. Unfortunately Scruffy and Pusspuss ate the FRISKIES can food. Within a half hour of eating the food we took scruffy to the vet because he was vomiting violently and was wobbly. He died. He was old so we thought it was just his time. BUT Pusspuss ate the same food. She too started vomiting and had diarrhea. We took her to the vet and she had to be hospitalized. She is still not 100% well. We still didn't attribute it to their food. Then 5 days later we feed all 3 cats a can of Friskies. Pusspuss immediately became ill and so did Zorro. That's when we knew it was the food. I will never ever use Friskies again. We lost our poor Scruffy cat, almost lost Puss and have a huge vet hospital bill.

I just adopted a stray cat and the vet says he’s healthy and fixed. He’s about 2 years old. So I bought Purina Friskies like everyone else did because it has been around for years and it’s affordable. My new kitty started vomiting immediately on the first can of white fish. I did a search and found this site and I am simply disappointed in what isn’t being done to prevent more pets from getting sick. This has been reported since April 2019. I recently purchased a 24 pack of Friskies pate and checked the bottom of every can and they are all ending in 1159, irregardless of the flavor. Best by April 2021.

I won’t be using Friskies brands anymore after reading other reviews. I feel this 24 pack should have been removed from the grocery store within the last 2 months. I just spent significant money with the vet confirming my cat is healthy and free of diseases such a feline leukemia only to trust a company by its name and have my cat sick anyway. BUYER BEWARE. Please open the box on your 24 and 32 packs and if one can has 1159, they all probably do and leave it be!

Update: I was going to blast Purina in here. Instead, I decided to call for myself in spite of some of the reviews. I called Purina to report this cat food issue and make them aware of this site. After being on hold, they were extremely helpful. Purina says the number 1159 is a plant number not lot #. The whole number is 91021159. So Purina says the number 1159 is a plant in Nebraska and the rest date. All 24 cans are from the same plant 1159. Purina offered a refund immediately, no questions. Please call and report 1159, 1157 or any others. Be sure to get your refund. Purina will notice if it’s significant refunding.

I have a 14 year old cat and a 9 week old kitten. I give them both a primary wet and dry food daily (Soulistic wet food. It is amazing.) and rotate secondary brands because my 14 year old can be picky. I tried Friskies Meaty Bits in Gravy. It has been a week. A few days ago my kitten's hair started falling out in patches. My first thought was allergies, and I assumed it was a young kitten ringworm situation since my older cat was perfectly fine. Then day before yesterday the kitten started vomiting. Then yesterday my older cat started vomiting and looks so sluggish, I got scared. Thankfully I feed my cats a variety of foods or they could already be worse off than they already are. I am still monitoring them, but just found this page filled with terrifying reviews for this brand. This batch is also 1159. Friskies should be avoided at all costs.

I feed them with high quality dry food and I give them Friskies canned food just once a week. 4 days ago I started to provide wet food along with dry food. As a result, all of them were eating mostly this wet food for 4 days. The second day the one which was eating more wet food began vomiting and having diarrhea. The 3rd day the other 2 got severely sick. Throwing up 3 times and diarrhea. They were perfectly healthy indoor cats. I'm taking them to vet tomorrow. I hope some cat lover sue this company.

Just some background before getting to the nitty-gritty of the problem: We have had cats as part of our family for more than 50 years. They have thrived on Friskies and all have lived to between 16 and 19 years of age. Currently, I have a mama cat and her 5 babies who are now almost 5 years old. We didn’t know the sweet, starving, abandoned cat we decided to call our own had kitties stashed somewhere. We found them one morning sleeping with her in the box we set out for her on our covered deck. We estimated they were about 2 months old & trapped them so we could get them to the shelter to be spayed & neutered.

We worked with the babies as best we could, hopeful they could be tamed and go to good homes. But they were too long without human contact. They are sweet but semi-feral. I can handle them, pet them, pick them up and they are allowed into the back of the house - kitchen, family room. The kitties have warm beds on our covered deck but are predominately outside cats. So they are very, very hearty.

When it came to feeding, we naturally turned to Friskies canned cat food since it was the brand all our previous cats had liked and done so well eating. And all 6 of these cats just gobbled up the wet food and were wanting more. That is until about a month ago. Mama cat was the first to start throwing up as soon as she walked away from her empty bowl. At first, I thought she was eating too fast; then I blamed myself for giving her too much food, so I cut her back some. Still the problem existed. Two weeks ago she and the kitties started refusing what food was put in their bowls. They’d eat a few bites and walk away. And when I was weeding the other day, I was seeing lots of other cat vomit in the weeds and in the soil. And yes, I thought I noticed something different about the food every time I opened cans - it seemed to smell different. I dismissed the thought and likely should not have done that.

So I googled a query and found this website. The numbered runs of 1159 & 1157 mentioned in other posts here are in my cat food larder so I won’t be giving them that food. I cooked some chicken thighs for their dinner tonight and will supplement that with a can of sardines. Don’t know what to do about their morning meal. I’ve always relied on this brand of cat food to provide for the nutritional needs of my cats which it did well and at a reasonable cost. But now I am VERY concerned and I will be reporting this to the manufacturer.

Used this product for years without a problem, but this batch made three cats dangerously sick. One lucky cat refused to eat it which was very strange at the time, but it’s the only one that didn’t get sick. It must have recognize it as being bad. That particular cat always has a ferocious appetite which made it very strange that it would not eat it. Two cats have somewhat recovered after 4 days, but a third cat is still very sick. For the most part he refuses to eat but when he does eat, vomiting follows what little he did eat.

Two other cats that did not eat any of this food and are not sick at all. This rules out a contagious illness. I will be Sending these cans of food out for analysis to several labs. Had I not checked around and found this website with stories of other cats getting sick from this Friskies brand, I would not have known what was making them sick. Thank you all for posting. I hope that Friskies is monitoring this and let us know the truth about what is going on rather than someone finding out too late. I will update this post soon.

I believe we are another victim of these rotten "1157" and "1159" batches. ("1161" maybe?). Back on December 25, 2018, one of my cats got really sick, vomiting and later diarrhea and refused to eat after that for a week and was feeling lethargic at all time. Considering the Christmas to the New Year time frame, this was a real NIGHTMARE. Two vets didn’t find anything after a series of blood and feces tests and thank God she started to feel back to normal after a week and got her appetite back. Even from the beginning, I was sure there was something with the food. I was suspicious of both “Chicken and Tuna” and “Turkey and Cheese” cans. And now I am hearing about these 1157 and 1159 batches, as I gladly saved the remaining of that week’s food, guess what? 1159! I am very furious. I really want to know what kind of legal actions can be done against these evils.

I've had numerous trouble with Friskies and Fancy Feast giving it to my cat SPECIFICALLY ON THE LABEL 100% NUTRITION. First problem I had was I put the wet food on a plate 5 years ago. Come back to see 30 minutes later uneaten and fly larvae all over the food protruding out. Chalked it up to a bad can. Next time years later was broken can in a box again. Suspected shipping then found few cans months later. Cans unsealed properly, no dents. Obviously threw them out. Few cans upon opening suspected mold, strange discoloration. 6-8 months from 2-3 days ago she wouldn't eat the food half the time unless it was covered with gravy sauce hiding the actual scent of the CRUDE products. LOW QUALITY yet 100 nutritious.

Next thing I know she was slowly starving. I've tried everything to keep her alive myself. Vets cant help with the severity of these problems. She slowly died withering away so badly by the way that she got nasal infections, eye problems seeing and mucus, staring at walls half there and 1 week to her death her bone were touchable literally through her skin. Still alive. No muscle fiber at all and couldn't walk. Started having seizures. Couldn't hold her head up or close her eyes!

After she died so suddenly I read FDA WARNINGS Friskies numerous time. Mainly people had cans 1157 1159. Rendering plants using euthanize meat in the food, viral bacteria, mold, failure to follow proper canning methods. GUESS WHAT'S TRENDING ON YOUTUBE? People daring other people to eat cat food! If this isn't a human health risk it is now! Even if these cans are stored in a fridge with your HUMAN FOOD BTW MIND YOU is still a human health risk. I DIDN'T KNOW EATING DEATH WAS 100% NUTRITION with no cause for human concern when stored in a fridge for human food after opened. She died so horrible. It's still on shelves. Hopefully with my review the USDA will now be involved 100%. No question, immediately, no need for complaints. Just based on storing cat food in a fridge with human food.

Along with a YouTube trend of daring to eat cat food how many actual people have died now? Or have suffered from food poisoning unwittingly. Needs to immediately stop and HUMAN REGULATORY INSPECTIONS! Contamination spreads in fridges! Numerous people are using Facebook as a complaint site. Humans handle this food when feeding their pets. She went from being a happy, healthy feline to being bright yellow with liver levels through the roof. After her ultrasound came back clear, I've been looking everywhere to try to figure out WHY my baby has gotten so sick.

Last night I came across this consumer reports page where there are TONS of recent reviews of cats getting sick and/or dying after eating Friskies. Various reviews mention wet food batches # 1157 and 1159. I checked my cabinet this morning and, sure enough, the cans in there are from batch 1159. I have reached out to Purina to put in an official inquiry but also wanted to add my two cents here. Please be careful with this brand and if you have one of the batches listed discard it immediately. Don't take the chance.

Right now I have vet bills piling up and I'm just doing my best to make sure my cat lives, but I honestly don't know what the outcome is going to be yet - as of today, things aren't looking good. About 3 weeks ago I purchased 4 cases of Friskies canned pate chicken and liver and started feeding it to them. Everything was fine for a few days and I noticed that they were eating less during the day and wouldn’t even finish the small amount of canned food I gave them. I had no idea it was the food so I continued to feed it to them. Friskies has always been what we purchase because it is a reasonable price and I have 12 rescued cats to feed.

I have stopped feeding Friskies and cooked them some boiled chicken breast with some plain white rice in the broth water and the diarrhea has stopped so far but they still don't really have an appetite. My boy used to love dinner time and be so excited and now has hardly much interest in food and that is not like him at all.

I am NEVER feeding them Friskies or anything by Purina company again! I will be switching to a healthy brand and reporting this to Friskies and they better be doing something about it because I'm not letting this go. If anything serious is wrong due to their cat food I will consult legal action because my cats are my babies and I put my trust in their cat food to be safe not harm them. If this food is fed to a senior or sickly cat it could kill them. My opinion is PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM FRISKIES!

We are currently fostering 4 kittens and we were given a case of Friskies Mixed Grill to feed them. We mixed the food with formula to wean them to food and one of the kittens spit out a black piece of plastic. I was like wtf?! So I look through the rest and saw a bunch of black specs throughout the food. Then we decided to carefully look through the can and found more black plastic along with hard chunk of metal. Idk what the hell is going on in the processing plant but this is serious! Thank god that kitten spit that piece out. She could have choked or gotten very sick. Needless to say we are not using this poison anymore. However it saddens me to think millions of animals are eating this food and owners not even realize what's in it. Back in 2015 someone else mentioned finding black plastic in the food which is scary to think this has been going on for years! Stay away from this crap!!

Both of them were barfing after barely eating any, one was getting diarrhea. They don't want to eat any of the flavors any more. I have been throwing out so much food lately, it's ridiculous! What did you do to the food? I use to divide one can into 2 meals, twice a day for my 2 cats. They won't even eat a 1/2 teaspoon of the stuff now, even the favorite flavors they won't touch. I've had to switch to a different brand because this has become such a waste of money, 3/4 is going into the garbage. Sorry Friskies... but we are no longer a fan of your products. We have 2 adult cats and one kitten that eat Friskies wet food daily. The adult cats have been eating Friskies for about 7 years with no problems. About mid February I noticed that all three cats began eating their wet food less and less until I was gradually throwing out more than they were eating. I tried switching flavors around and still ended up with same problem. A few weeks ago the oldest cat who is 14, started vomiting until we had to take her to the vet. After nearly $700 of labs and x-rays they can't find anything wrong. She has not been eating now for 2 weeks even with trying medications to stimulate her appetite. She is wasting away and we can't figure out why.

Now over the weekend my 12 year old started vomiting and refused to eat any of the food, nor would the other two cats. I had noticed that the food seemed to smell a little different, that most flavors smelled the same and some smelled almost pungent when opening them. Some of the fish flavors smelled like ammonia. I went out yesterday and picked up another brand of wet food and so far everyone is eating ok this morning. I firmly believe there is something wrong with the Friskies wet food. Right now we have several cans with different lot numbers so I have no way of determining if one in particular is bad. All the cans have expiration dates into 2020 and 2021 so none of the food is expired.

I have always fed them Friskies canned food without any issues in addition to dry food. This last week I noticed that no one was eating the wet food, not even "Miss Piggy" who will eat anything. I also started noticing diarrhea in the litterbox and someone was throwing up in the litterbox. I kept trying different flavors; all seemed to have the same results except that the throwing up now was not limited to the litterbox. My cats do not go outside so I know they were not exposed to anything from that and the dry food is from the same bag so that is not the problem. The only thing different is the wet food. I now have 3 sickly cats and am hoping they stopped eating it soon enough to not do any lasting damage to them. After eating either meaty bits chicken and gravy, gourmet grill and gravy and/or beef and gravy, he has had severe vomiting and couldn't keep food down. He would turn away his favorite treats and lose interest in eating, which was a huge red flag. I am so thankful that I came across this website and stopped trying to get him to eat other flavors of Friskies canned food.

I had already thrown out the opened cans so I checked the unopened cans and found that the large can of meaty bits in the flavor chicken and gravy was from lot #1159. We were able to get him to eat small amounts of boiled chicken and tuna water. Our saving grace was Hill's Science Sensitive Stomach and Skin (chicken and rice flavor) dry kibble. He was able to eat small amounts the first two days and he is now eating the recommended amount. I was so afraid that we were going to lose him, but now feel like we are on the road to recovery.

I discontinued giving her the treats three days ago, and there has not been another incident of vomiting.

As a scientist, I'm cautious of making unwarranted conclusions, and I'm not certain that these treats were the cause of the vomiting, but I did a Google search and came up with this page immediately. I'm rather stunned at the number of recent comments on this issue. Accordingly, I'm not going to run another "control test" on poor kitty. Based on the number of complaints I've seen here, it's evidence enough that the cat treats are a likely source of the problem.

The last three weeks, she was having increasingly softer and lighter colored poops... To the point where it became light beige, pure liquid explosive diarrhea (like she couldn’t make it into her litter box despite trying to) on Friday night. She was also getting sluggish and leaving food behind. It actually occurred to us it might be the food so immediately switched back to Fancy Feast... And by Saturday night, she was passing formed and proper colored stools again.

Just because it was bothering me and wondering if I should contact Friskies, I googled and found this website. Wow! Scary stuff! HOW Can they NOT have issued a recall? Something is seriously wrong with their food! I am also going to call and complain. It looks like a few people’s cats have died from this. Totally unacceptable and I hope everyone with a problem leaves a review and knows to call and complain to prevent others from possibly losing their babies or incurring crazy vet bills. I actually think we should still take her in for a be visit after reading some of these stories, even though the new food seems to have taken care of the immediate issues (proper stools, not sluggish, and licking her entire bowl clean again).

These normally hearty eaters would not finish any of the tried varieties. They eat it but don't clean it up, leave some of it. That's a first with this crew. In addition all have lost considerable weight, lost their glossy coats, look poorly and are now having skin irritation.

They have vomited the food in multi stages, first the main bulk and then again expelling brown fluid. They all have diarrhea. I had three at the vets and was told by my vet not to feed Friskies. I doubt Friskies will pay the bill. Obviously I am not feeding this anymore. I had purchased two cases and am returning them asap. My cats have little or no interest in almost all of the regular Friskies wet foods, except for the whitefish & sardines flavor. I have noticed a change in the quality of the flavors (and contents?) from the past. My cats never eat any of the solid material, only lick the sauce if they eat it at all. I have been taking care of cats for over 30 years. Prior to the reviews I just read, I have discussed the quality of Friskies with a neighbor who has cats. We have previously come to the conclusion that Friskies is poor quality. We have both decided to try and get away from Friskies which is not easy as there are few competitors in that price range.

The only answer I can see is to go to Purina Nestle's higher priced cat foods which is Elegant Medleys or to reintroduce them to brands that have a higher price and promoted by veterinarians. I also have seen a lessening in quality for Fancy Feast as well. My cats walk away from half the flavors they have which was never the case before. I also have noticed that Friskes/Purina Nestle cat foods have really spiked in price recently. Elegant Medleys is now hitting the .99 cents mark, moving from 70 cents. If my cats aren't eating their products then it is a waste of money. Is there any clinical evaluation of these products? I see no reason for such price hikes and draw the inference that Friskies/Purina has cornered the market.

I also had a senior dog named Bo, who had a habit of eating the Friskies anytime I turned my back. Jules had been drastically losing weight, the vet couldn't determine a cause and accredited it to old age and muscle deterioration. In October 2018, Bo suffered a stroke and died. Two weeks later, Missy Moo suffered a stroke and developed kidney failure, and a week after that no matter how much Jules ate, he withered away to skin an bones and died. Chubby was quickly heading down the same path as Jules and he was becoming extremely thin. The only commonality between them was the consumption of Friskies.

We even had our well water tested to make sure there was no contamination and it came back normal. We stopped feeding Missy Moo Friskies and fed a brand that had kidney support, and Chubby's food got changed to Victor Brand. Although Missy Moo is still blind in one eye, she is alive and doing considerably well for being old, suffering a stroke, and developing kidney failure. Chubby looks like a new cat with the Victor Brand. He has filled out, his fur is soft and no longer ratty, and he looks more like his name-Chubby. Never again is Friskies entering into my house and making anymore of my beloved pets sick!

Something has definitely changed with Friskies and their reply guessing what happened, is not acceptable. My cat got sick 5 days later and I had to take him to the vet. I will NEVER buy Friskies ever again...

Despite what their website says, Friskies canned pate cat food obviously did change when the label did. It no longer has much of a smell when opened, and a cat won’t eat what a cat can’t smell. There are no juices around the edges or in the bottom of the can. It is a dry plop of “play dough” stuff that has made all my cats vomit and none will now eat it. All flavors of pate. I’ve fed this for years. I buy a couple of boxes at a time. I’ve tried to work with this new situation for weeks. I currently have 12 cats. I also have cans that are double stamped with pink dots! From what I’ve read Purina is aware and ignoring. Please write about and report this as much as possible!

What is going on?? Is there any control on pricing because .80 cents a can for Friskies is outrageous, what is going on? .50, .60 .80 in 6 weeks??? Any answer?

I have been feeding my cats Friskies dry with canned cat food for years. I noticed a change mid-summer 2018 when they would eat then have massive projectile vomiting. One cat had bloody mucus covered stool. Like the other reviews, once the label changed again in late 2018, it got worse. I took them to the vet and they all check out. On January 2nd, my beloved 18 year old died from not being able to poop. I have another 21 year old cat who is vomiting daily. The younger cats are barely eating the food and when they do, they vomit.

After reading the other reviews here, I’m eliminating the Friskies canned cat food and changing to another brand. I just checked one of my cats who usually weighs 15 pounds. He is skin and bones under his fur and looking thin in the hindquarters - the same way my other cat who died started to look. It seems too coincidental that there are so many cats experiencing the same symptoms. My 21 year old cat lived on Friskies - I’d be disappointed to find that this food had been causing my cats to get so sick. Shame on Friskies for ignoring so many reviews detailing the same issue.

I used to feed my cats Purina indoor formula. Well, had to change because of the price. So I started Friskies Seafood Sensations in the bag, dry. They seemed to love it. The next day, didn't want anything to do with it. They graze now, just enough to make their bellies not hurt. The canned makes them sick. Fancy Feast, makes them sick. They won't eat any other cat food I have bought, but they will eat the dry Friskies SS. But I end up having to clean it off the floor after they get sick. I called them the end of the summer, they said nothing has changed to their formula, but those cats smell that something has changed! Going to buy them some tuna and boil them some chicken now.

I go to the store today to restock and from last week the price went up $0.16, I drive to another store and the price went up $0.10. What happened in a week that the price of cat food jumped? Is it because you changed the label on the can, I don't eat the food but I seriously doubt that you changed the quality of it. It's just making it harder for people who try to help the animals that have no homes, feeding them is becoming too costly. Are they going to starve out on the street. Very sad!

I volunteer at a cat only rescue. Since we opened our doors in 2006, we have been feeding Friskies to all of the cats every evening as a snack to administer Lysine without any issues. Over the past 3 weeks we have noticed an increase in soft and loose stools, and in the past week, a large number of our cats (15-20) have had episodes on vomiting and loose, watery diarrhea. One of the cats had bloody diarrhea and vomiting and was ultimately diagnosed with an upper GI bleed. Once we stopped feeding Friskies, the vomiting has decreased to only one or two episodes per day in each of our cat rooms (compared to the 10-20 episodes per room 10 days ago). This situation has been extremely upsetting both to the staff and the cats as we have tried to work through this and ensure the welfare of all of our cats and kittens.

It is 1/22/19, and it broke our hearts to write this Friskies review. We are a multi-cat family, and all our cats are rescued cats. One of our cats who we rescued three years ago from an abused community had always eaten Friskies only, because it was the only food he could get from that community before, especially Friskies pate. From October 2018, we noticed that he started to eat less and less when Friskies first changed their label look. Then he and other cats started to have diarrhea and vomiting problems. One cat by one cat who ate Friskies had these symptoms on and off. But since he only ate Friskies, he was affect the most and started to lose weight and appetite. He still told us he wanted food, but he ate very little of the Friskies cans we gave him. In November, we noticed though the symptoms were less obvious, his weight loss was too much and too rapid. This was the time we noticed Friskies secondly changed their label look.

We brought the cat to vet early December, and he was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer and he passed away 1 week after the diagnosis. We understand cancers coexist with people and animals, but something must have triggered the cancer cells to become active. We do not have direct evidence but we strongly believe Friskies cat food’s new taste/ingredients/formula was one of the main factors that triggered the cancer. Since new Friskies cans cause vomiting, diarrhea and decreasing appetite, these effects will bring down the immune system very easily. When immune system is weak, stronger cats can still handle and recover from illness, but some cats can’t. Unfortunately, one of our cats could not make it. His cancer cells were activated when immune system was weak. Our other cats refused to eat Friskies completely after the label look changed the 2nd time.

Actually he was totally healthy when we brought him to vet for annual checkup in the end of Sep. 2018 so we were so shocked and deeply sad and, and it was hardly for us to accept his suddenly departure. After we talked to several doctors and did some research, since Friskies was the only food the cat would eat, it should be the main and direct reason that activated the cancer cells, then caused his death. We later returned all the Friskies cans we bought (we bought a lot during Thanksgiving holiday) to the pet store since we didn’t even want to donate them to the rescue groups or shelters. We think the new formulas do have something that damages cat’s health and appetite. Pls be aware of the new Friskies cat food; do not take any risk.

About a week later we noticed the older cat would walk away from some flavors of her wet food as well. At first I thought it was maybe a bad lot of food, so I bought a new lot from the store. The younger cat won't touch it and the older cat will attempt 1 or 2 bites then walk away.

FYI: we feed the wet in morning and they have a bowl of Blue Wilderness kibble for the rest of the day. I now think Friskies either changed their ingredients or are allowing more animal waste or dead animals (like road kill but died of something while in the stock yard holding pens) into their food. We manage a 20-cat feral cat colony. I've used Friskies wet (pate Poultry Platter and Supreme Supper) successfully for 10 years. However, in the past couple months, the cats have stopped eating more than 50% of any feeding. (No change in the number of cats.) Sometimes they ignore it completely, even when they're clearly hungry. Some scratch dirt on it before walking away without taking a bite. We have never had problems with vomiting, but have had numerous instances on our driveway & porch in the last month. Also, cats have always left our property during the daytime, but during this same time period many have been lethargic. They lie for most of the day in their beds or under the bushes.

I don't know if this is related, but I opened a can last week that was full of black mold inside. I understand one bad can after 10 years shouldn't mean the end of a good vendor/customer relationship. But even though the other cans in that carton appeared ok, none of the cats ate more than a couple bites. Why? When I went to write this review to alert you to a potential problem, I was astounded to see review after review with exactly the same concern, some with cat symptoms even worse than we've observed here. If you want more people to contact about this same problem, please let me know. We're very worried. Thank you for looking into this.

About two weeks ago my kitten started having diarrhea, vomiting and was extremely lethargic. I brought her to the vet and they put her on antibiotics thinking it was a parasite. We brought her home later that day and she was back to normal. Fast forward one week and the symptoms started again but worse. She wouldn't move and couldn't meow and was in critical condition. We rushed her to an emergency vet clinic and she had a seizure on the examining table and died. We were very upset about this due to having no answers as to what caused all of this and being out $400 (also she was a bottle fed kitten so we were very attached).

Fast forward to yesterday and our 2 year old cat started having the same symptoms. Extremely lethargic, throwing up, and having diarrhea. This cat has never had ANY sickness and they are both inside cats, we don't have inside plants, cleaning products or anything they can get a hold of. I dropped her at the vet this morning and they checked all of her blood work and it all came back normal but she is still very dehydrated and lethargic.

The estimate cost so far for this vet visit is going to be another $400. Very upset about this and after reading through reviews of others going through similar events like this I truly believe it is the food. The food is going straight in the trash. Please stay away from this food if you love your animals. I have added photos below of my Cats. These are of my small kitten that died when she was normal then when she was sick and the other one is a normal picture of my 2 year old cat and the other is what I came home to her looking like.

I had a few of the old cases of Friskies pate (48 cans each) but just ran out. This was the only cat food my cats have ever known. Costco switched to Friskies in the bright GREEN boxes and the cans each have a stripe on them. No idea why the company decided to switch boxes. When I started "trying" to feed them the food from the new packages, at first I thought they were not very hungry. But this is TWO cats. My cat is not ashamed to indicate, by a scraping motion next to the dish, that the food needs to be buried in their litter boxes. My garbage disposal is getting clogged with what amounts to full cans of Friskies. I've seen dried vomit on the garage floor and cleaning out the litter boxes indicates that at least one of them has the runs. The only thing that changes was the packaging and labels on the pate. Tell me a fantasy that NOTHING has changed with the product in the past couple of months.

If you are used to giving your pets Friskies pate (especially the ones with 48 cans you get at Costco) I'd suggest going to the store and getting some cans with the OLD labels (no stripe) and start weaning your cats onto something else (any ideas on something reasonably priced?). Also, they haven't been eating the Friskies Party Mix either. So, I have alternatives to that. My personal opinion is that the food is NOT being thoroughly tested on cats, but I obviously don't know that for a fact. All I know is that the days of buying Friskies at Costco are over for me. The stuff seems dry but tightly packed and difficult to even spoon out of the can. Before you go spend a lot of money at the vets, please consider changing your pets' food.

We don't know for certain IF it's the Friskies, but they all became ill within days AFTER eating what I thought and others in my family thought were "bad" cans of Friskies wet food. These cats now run away from any flavor or type of Friskies wet food. Will be making yet another vet visit unfortunately. Symptoms are exactly as described by a previous reviewer from AZ.

Original Review: We have been cat owners for over 3 decades. We have been feeding our cats Friskies for a while. Lately they will not eat Friskies canned wet foods, especially the ones that are shreds or have a lot of gravy. The food has a VERY STRONG chemical odor, and the cats will not touch it now. Three of our cats have recently become ill, and we are waiting for the test results from the vet. Our pets are becoming leery of us when feeding time comes, they hide and refuse to come around my family when there is Friskies canned wet food on their plates.

I have friends who also say their cats USED to eat Friskies wet and their cats suddenly stopped eating it just like mine did. This subject has been ongoing for months according to reviews I've read online. I have made numerous complaints to Purina and they just send me coupons for more bad canned food. I will be looking for a new source of food for our pets because obviously there are issues with Friskies canned cat food. Too many complaints for there not to be a problem, jmho.

I have been purchasing Friskies canned wet food for several years, specifically the cans of Chicken in Gravy and various variety packs of Meaty Bits and Shreds. However, this past week, I purchased a Chicken Lovers 32 Can Pack that was clearly contaminated. First, my one short-haired tabby seem to display symptoms of urinary blockage (i.e., would not allow me to pick him up, loss of appetite). I took him to the vet and after an overnight observation, was told that everything was fine with his urinary tract but that he lacked an appetite. The cost: $200 (although the health of my cat is priceless). Then, the next morning my orange tabby became extremely ill. Puking, diarrhea, and a lack of appetite. And my long haired cat also would not eat. All three cats have become lethargic, barely eat (wet or dry food), and continue to have runny stools. I am hoping they recover in the next week. It has been very stressful.

The only reason I know it is the canned food is because my fourth cat only eats dry food and is fine. I have read other recent reviews with similar stories about cats becoming seriously ill from Friskies canned, wet food. I am not sure what is going on, but I hope that Purina looks into this serious contamination issue. How many cats have to get sick before there is a recall? I have contacted Purina with this information: The UPC code is 50000-29453. The Best Before date is October 2020. The Manufacturer Code is 1159-1559L978310.

One of my cats began throwing up daily, then after every meal. We changed food, took her to the vet for $600 worth of normal test results to no avail. Finally, after 1.5 lbs lost, the vet prescribed antibiotics. After a few days, the cat was back to her normal self, but our other cat got sick. We reintroduced the Shreds and both cats got sick again. I think some contamination has occurred. I've reached out to Friskies and am awaiting a reply.

I've been feeding my cats dry and wet Friskies for years. Around a month ago, one of my boys started getting frequently ill vomiting/bloody diarrhea. Later I took him to the vet for a costly visit and was prescribed meds for IBS. I asked if I should look into changing his diet, and they originally said that shouldn't be necessary. Fast forward a month, I open up a can of extra gravy filet and the next day his symptom's return in full force with more excess vomiting and diarrhea. I once again go to the vet to get blood work done, and when the results return the doctor tells me that my boy's liver value is almost triple what it should be! He immediately advised me to change his diet, and now that I look at all of these reviews it seems like it is a big possibility that Friskies has made my cat very very sick costing me over $600 in vet bills.

I have four cats and have fosters many others. Feeding time was never an issue till this year. Gravely disappointed with both 9 lives and Friskies cat food. It almost seems as if they are produced out of the same factory. Never had a problem until about a year ago. My cats aren’t eating any of the pate any more. Two of them are constantly hungry begging for something else and throw up often.

I switched to the small cans called Tasty Treasures with cheese and also the cans with gravy added. The consistency is very runny and doesn’t resemble the smell or consistency of meat anymore. You can be pretty darn sure that there is only subpar byproducts and chemicals squished into those cans. The animals can’t get much more than one meal out of one small can. Where’s the meat? Interesting how the small gravy cans aren’t offered in a more economical large can. These companies are hoping you’ll switch to the small cans filled with fake gravy so they can make much more money per soggy scoop!

Come on you guys. How can the heads of these companies sleep at night knowing the degree of chemicals and other additives that are added to our fur babies food. At about 60 cents for a small can of mostly fake gravy, how can we afford to keep our pets healthy. My advice is to voice your concerns to these companies if your cats become ill on their chemically laced products. I also believe that there are most likely appetite stimulators that increase the cats desire for food, costing the consumer more.

Is there some start-up company out there that can offer an affordable cat food that our cats can be safe eating? That standard was the norm years ago. Now seems to be more of a buyer beware marketplace. The bar has been drastically lowered. I’m both sad and disgusted by these corporations lack of compassion for our amazing pets.

I’ve been feeding my two older cats Friskies can pate for years and the past two years have been purchasing the cases of it at Costco, which comes in packages of 48 cans. My cats have had some loss of teeth (incisors) and hair loss in patches which I’ve attributed to old age and being indoor/outdoor. Vet checkups are clear of diseases or other illnesses. The last several months of feeding them their nightly can of wet food they’ve occasionally turned their noses up at it (it’s usually the Mariner's Catch or Salmon Pate - Mixed Grill seems fins) and left in their bowls.

Last night my daughter fed the kitties a can each of Salmon Pate. Both kitties took a couple nibbles only but left the rest in their bowls. Usually I scoop out and dump in rubbish, but had evening plans and forgot. This morning my husband commented angrily why did I let the cats' bowls get gross and moldy!? I figured he was being dramatic and not wearing his glasses at the “moldy” comment so I walked into the laundry room and sure enough both cats bowls were like Science Petri dish experiments!! In less than 12 hours of being opened and sitting in their bowl, the entire can of wet food was absolutely furry with mold! I’m taking back the whole case as I just bought it this week and request a refund. Now I think my cats' problems may be related to this wet food brand! My oldest cat has no incisors so can’t eat the top quality crunchy food we buy and needs can food. This brand has gone downhill in the last few years!

We had 3 cats in our household & all have been fed Friskies canned wet/dry cat food. 2 cats died of a mysterious allergic reaction that caused hair loss, tooth loss, weight loss, vomiting, bad breath & diarrhea - the 3rd cat was very sick w/ the same symptoms. We tried a variety of products including Purina Sensitive Stomach for our remaining cat without improvement until we settled on Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Skin & Stomach. She improved significantly. Not putting 2 & 2 together, I happened to find a leftover can of Friskies while cleaning & decided to give it to her for a "treat". Within a couple of hours, my cat had a 4" x 2" area on her neck where all the hair was gone, was red, inflamed & oozing serous fluid.

She was in obvious pain & I was afraid her airway was going to swell shut. I was able to treat the area with steroids & the area has healed nicely over the last 2 weeks but the hair has yet to grow back. I immediately got rid of any Friskies food that was left over. Now I have to question if I had a hand in the death of our other 2 cats by feeding them Friskies food. There can be no other explanation for what happened to the other 2. This product should be removed from shelves and banned. I would have given a negative rating if I could have... I did take a photo of her neck if anyone is interested in seeing it.

I am so glad I found this website and saw others were having the same experience with Friskies canned cat food (in my case, specifically, Poultry Platter Pate). I've been feeding my 2 cats the Friskies Pate for a couple of years and they were OK with it. They also get Royal Canin kibbles (Selective Protein or something like that!). They love the Royal Canin. Over the last year, I have been throwing out at least 50% of the Friskies because my cats would not eat it. A couple of times, I wouldn't put anything else out thinking they were just being fussy cats. Now I feel horrible.

The last batch in particular has really made my cats sick. One is very lethargic. Out goes all the Friskies on hand. I don't know what to try next. I can't afford the better, more expensive canned wet food brands. But then again, with the amount of Friskies I have thrown out, I've been spending the same amount on the Friskies as I would on a better brand where I didn't have to throw out 50% of the cans! How does Purina get away with selling this food that is making our cats sick??? They obviously don't care.

Poultry Platter Pate, Turkey and Giblets Pate I KNOW are toxic. They favor the non-fish ones - Supper Supreme, Mixed Grill, Country Style Dinner, Beef - all Pate style. I have been feeding my cats Friskies wet cat food for several years. But then both my cats were getting sick fall of 2017. I had a suspicion it might be their food. I looked for a recall and found some negative reviews on Amazon of their dry food so I switched their dry food to a super premium Acana which they love.

My cat Annabelle started getting EXTREMELY sick in April 2018. She was puking, diarrhea on the carpet multiple times a day, hiding under the bed, lethargy, sneezing, and weight loss for a little cat. The poop had blood and lots of mucus in it and smelled foul. I took her to the vet and he dismissed that it could be food. I did a round of antibiotics with her. She felt better, then after she was off the meds she got sick again. We started another round of antibiotics, but was getting sicker, so we added in 2 more antibiotics. One of which was super expensive and tore up her stomach so badly and made her worse, as well as she was so sick and not drinking water or eating. She became seriously dehydrated and I had to take her back to the vet for IV fluids. She was pooping gray cement colored diarrhea that the vet had never seen before.

We finally got her stabilized on steroids and a probiotic. Again, as soon as I took her off meds she got worse. Each time she was "getting better" I was reintroducing the Friskies. I took her to the vet multiple times. The blood work was fine. Recently, we took Romeo off **. He had been losing weight due to unknown cause and couldn't figure out why so we put him on a different appetite stimulant. He starts getting sick with exactly the same symptoms as Annabelle: diarrhea with blood and mucus on the carpet, gray diarrhea, lethargy, hiding, puking all the time, dehydration. Foul smelling puke and poop. Obviously gastrointestinal issues from the stomach (puking) all the way through to the large intestine (red blood and mucus poop). So both my cats were off **- a strong pain steroid.

I realized that last Sunday was exactly when they both got sick and that was the exact day I gave them both Friskies Poultry Platter! I search for a recall, but found this site. I had been suspicious before and pulled the Friskies, but this confirmed it with both my cats so sick. The ** had been helping them with the pain of being so sick in their guts and covering up why Romeo was losing weight.

I immediately put them on Blue Buffalo wet food as well as ** again and they started feeling better. We also included probiotics. The bad thing is we don't know what the hell is in the toxic food - bacteria? toxic chemicals? salmonella? e coli? aflatoxins? Luckily, I have figured it out in time to save my cats. Friskies has poisoned my cats and cost me hundreds in vet bills and have nearly killed my cats. Romeo has lost 5+ lbs and Annabelle has lost 3 lbs. Romeo has been sicker longer, which is why he was losing weight. His gut is very sensitive, so he lost weight early.

We did CPR on her to no avail and she stopped breathing. Tongue turned blue and she wasn't moving or responding. Thank God, my husband got behind her and put his arms around her to do CPR because we were finally able to get her to breathe again. She was dead for at least 2 minutes before we could resuscitate her. Got her to the hospital and her liver enzymes were highly elevated. Could have been an allergic reaction, could have been something in the Friskies. She's alive, but that bite of Friskies cost us $1,300.00.

Also, our older cat stopped eating this food and is now a skeleton. We had to bring her to the vet, thinking it's cancer or something and the vet didn't know why she just stopped eating. Got a prescription wet food for her and she chows it down. Another $800.00. All the Friskies in our house got thrown out. I suggest everyone else do the same.

I have 2 cats that are indoor only that I've been feeding only can food to per recommendation of the vet for the last 3 months & they were doing great previously, eating great, no problems with appetite or otherwise until about a month ago they both started refusing the food when I changed food brands & started feeding them Friskies brand. Most recently what I noticed most issue with is Friskies Pate 32ct variety pack Poultry favorites. I bought other variety packs just prior & I've been throwing most of it away & thought they were both being picky about the flavor & figured they'll eat when they get hungry enough.

They were both eating but very little, I would open a can in morning & another can in evening & end up discarding at least 1/2 of a 5.5oz can twice a day because it sat out too long. Yet previously on other brand (same amt of food) they would eat at least 2 full cans during the day between the 2 of them & at times I'd have to give them a 3rd can & I very rarely had to discard any food because they ate it quickly enough so it didn't sit out & go to waste.

After 2 weeks of this going on with them barely eating & kinda turning their noses up at the food 1 of them Millie Lou starts vomiting what appeared to be bile or liquid. A few days later the other cat Frankie began vomiting the same thing then also any food he ingested. Frankie also keeps crying out several times throughout the day as if something is wrong especially very late at night & his meow sounds different like hoarse sounding like something may have either scratched his throat or made it raw is best I can describe it. He keeps trying to get outside to eat grass for his upset tummy (the only time he ever tries to get outside is because he's craving grass for an upset stomach) so to keep him from trying to run outside I pick some grass for him & bring it inside to him & beyond the Friskies wet food, the grass (from my personal front yard - no chemicals of any sort is on it) is the only thing he's eaten this past month.

Both cats had started eating better BUT they were vomiting. I didn't realize the food might be the cause of this upset tummy of both my cats (& initial food rejection that I misinterpreted as being picky due to food change) until 2 nights ago when I opened a can of the Pate Poultry platter & as I was spreading it out on the plate for them (I spread it out across the plate rather than dump it I to a bowl to make it easier for them to share it which enabled me to see more of what was in the food) I saw a few small black specs at first then I saw several larger black pieces of something that I first was thinking might be as innocent as fish skin BUT due to fact it was Poultry platter & not a seafood dish, fortunately, I decided to touch it to make sure. So I touched it, noticed it was hard then picked it out of the plate & as I looked closer realized it was a hard piece of PLASTIC!

There were a few pieces of a big enough size to gag a pet, cut their gums, intestines, etc. Then there was more tiny pieces mixed in that were the size of black pepper when it's freshly ground at a medium to large setting all blended in which may not cause discomfort but certainly can't be healthy! And although upon looking at list of ingredients later for the poultry platter, fish was listed therefore it could have been skin, it most definitely wasnt skin & plastic definitely wasnt on list of ingredients! I started thinking back that saying about hindsight being 20/20 & recall seeing black pieces in previous cans I opened & chalked it up to skin of fish & never thought enough about it to check it further because it's pet food & stuff like that is in there & now I wish I'd have taken the time to THINK & Realize I was feeding my cats Poultry not seafood like I did the other night.

I placed that can on top of the plate of food & put it in a storage bag & put in refrigerator in case I needed it for any reason to be checked by anyone such as the vet, etc. After that, I couldn't help but think maybe it was the food making my cats sick because if plastic was in food that could make them sick in itself or there could be something else wrong so I started looking online in effort to see if anyone else had same or similar issue & found on here where others had issues with not only their cats getting sick with vomiting, etc. some even dying. Cats refusing the food like mine did initially (I feel awful for forcing my cats to either eat it or go hungry because I thought they were being picky). But I even found where a few people found the exact same thing I found. PLASTIC in the can food!

1 woman in particular found black hard plastic such as I found in same exact variety the Pate Poultry platter & states that the company told her they hadn't had any issues or complaints with any such thing & even if that was the case, it has to start with a first complaint! Someone has to go 1st in everything so maybe she just happened to get the 1st can with this plastic. My can with it came in a 32 count variety pack purchased at a Walmart can itself says Best by May 2020 81341157 L63741139. I now have majority of case of cat food that has to go in trash because can't return partially used case of food for refund & I'm on very limited income as I wait for a disability decision.

Hopefully the vomiting & crying of my cats will stop once that bad food & any plastic I may have missed is completely out of their systems. Hopefully neither of them have any blockages! Those pet parents that saw blood in their cats' stool or vomit, you should ask your vet if it could have possibly been caused by hard plastic in the food they ate. This is way too ridiculous & Purina / Friskies needs to recall this food & if you plan to keep operating fix the problems. Don't slap bandaids on them, so no other animals are harmed! We love our furbabies. They're irreplaceable! Some of us depend on our pets to be here for us as much as they depend on us to take care of them & feed them food that won't make them sick or worse!

She was in shock and logic and in critical condition, I held her in my arms as they euthanized her.

To the makers of this product, to the Nutritional experts, perhaps there's something wrong in the distribution of how it's handled, or the making of this product, but somewhere along the line, and somewhere along the way something is wrong. My complaint is like so many others that I've read. The similarities are too connected. Please look into this matter. I brought our new rescue cat home about 6 months ago. I stocked up on Friskies canned cat food. I didn’t know which kind to get but Friskies should be fine. He refused to eat “crazy concoctions “. Ok. He reluctantly ate shreds and bits and pate. But if I fed him over a couple of spoonfuls at a time he would consistently vomit. I figured that he was just that way. So I fed him 4-5 times a day to keep it down. While browsing the web I came across some customer complaints for the same thing. I didn’t believe it, but on the outside chance, I switched to 9 Lives. Bingo. That was 2 weeks ago and he has not vomited at all. Even fed him whole cans at a time. (He likes that). I was stunned. How is this possible? I have no idea but the proof is in the puke. Now I feel guilty for making him sick. I do not write complaints. Ever. But this is critical. Our pets can’t tell us so we need to be vigilant.

Tonight why my voracious neighbor's cat turns his nose up to a fresh helping of Bits chicken, I have to say something must be wrong with that food. I am not tolerating a food source that cannot be depended upon for 100% purity. I am tired of having sick cats, diarrhea, bacterial infections, and am changing to another brand besides Friskies.

But when I checked online I found that there were MANY complaints about thick black plastic pieces pet owners have found in their Friskies canned cat food who have contacted the company also.

We have been using Friskies wet cat food with no problems since we brought our Siamese babies home in January. They receive one can of wet food, split between them, in the morning, and one can split each evening. These are inside cats only, with no access to poisonous plants, etc. Two nights ago, they stopped eating, and are now vomiting clear fluids. They are terribly ill. The only explanation for them to both become this ill, on the very same day, is the wet food. The dry food that is left for them has not been changed, (it’s a bag we bought over a month ago.)

I’ve already had them to the vet twice - and will need to go back tomorrow. The anti nausea injections today were ineffective. These boys are my world. I’m devastated. Not sure what numbers are lot numbers, etc. - but the numbers on the box, after the expiration date of March 2020 read: 80741159 2309L978088. I cannot believe this is happening.

I have 3 senior cats, all 100% indoor. Last year, I realized that dry food wasn't good for them - constipation, throwing up, over-weight, so I stopped feeding them dry food. They get a tablespoon once a week as a treat and they can tolerate that small amount. They have been eating Friskies canned food for many years with no problem. A few months ago, I saw that one of the cats couldn't tolerate the chicken and tuna, so I stopped getting that for all of the cats. I thought I'd try them on the pate flavors and they liked it. I got beef fillets once in a while, but saw that 2 of the 3 couldn't tolerate it (diarrhea/vomiting) and the one that could can't tolerate a whole can, so that's out.

I've been feeding them the chicken fillets, chicken and cheese, turkey and cheese and country style, supper supreme, turkey and liver and mixed grill pates. I've tried them with shreds, but they don't like it. And forget any of the really wet newer flavors, too rich. I feed 3 cats 4 cans of food daily. They don't like eating less, but they don't have the upsets as often. Then my healthiest cat had blood in his stool, loss of appetite and lethargy for more than a day, so I knocked off the pate. He has recovered. I'm feeding him chicken, and have been giving him small amounts of the chicken fillets. He is much better, but I'm taking the pate food back to the store.

I have to keep in mind that they are older cats, and have aging systems that aren't as tolerant. After I use up the Friskies I have on hand, I may look for senior cat food that might be easier on their digestive systems. This isn't entirely a complaint about Friskies products. There have been times when the cats flat out refuse it and I return any cans in that batch to the store. I think my cats are just getting old and this might not be the best food choice for them.

This morning we fed her breakfast thinking maybe it was just she ate too fast... within minutes she was vomiting again—about 4 times, massive piles of vomit. I decided to take all food and water up for a couple of hours because she was drinking water so fast after. I then came here and see that clearly this is a problem and Friskies needs to take responsibility for what they’re doing to our animals!!! I’m trying to feed her rice right now which she hates but she is very hungry which is a plus and thank goodness she’s drinking water but she’s pretty lethargic.

He only lived a year and I am still grieving--I had to put him down towards the end of the month of April thinking he had a UTI, (if only!!!). AVOID this food if you can. There are better (and safer!) options for your cat. He is not in pain anymore, but I'll be damned if I feed my new cat this food!

I am still grieving, and occasionally crying from having to put my Felix down even though I have a new kitty to love, my own health started to deteriorate after I lost Felix (it was advised that I get a new kitten). He is brightening up my day more and more. No cat can ever replace Felix, but be leery of this food & listen to what other reviewers are saying. They are not wrong! Staining the carpet with some odd 'orange' color that WILL NOT come out of my profession spot cleaner. The following day he began to experience diarrhea. My Neighbor's Cat(s): Refused to eat any of the selection which I left out for them. These two are voracious wet food eaters. The next morning the entire house smelled "sour" from this can of food. About 3 months ago, I began noticing hard black objects and larger bone chips in the Seafood and a few other flavors of Friskies canned food. I didn't know what the black objects were. After hearing that others had problems with this cat food, I started looking more closely and found a number of other objects in the food, and many of the black objects... A lot of small pieces I couldn't see very well without my reading glasses. I found what appears to be parts of chicken beaks, along with pieces of wood, and a piece of chert rock, plus many bone fragments and many of the black objects. I have photos of a few of these findings... Plus I kept a few of the objects... the ones I photographed.

All or most of my cats have been sick, with a lot of throwing up and lethargy in the younger cats. One middle aged cat, plus two older cats were quite sick, with diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, and refusing to eat. The older cats were hit the hardest. One died and another is getting close to death... The vet has found a mass in his intestines and he has had extremely bloody and with an extreme amount of mucous in this cat's diarrhea... on several occasions. He also has bouts of constipation, apparently with the ** medication prescribed by the vet, or for other reasons. I can't afford to have an ultrasound done, so that's all we know about this cat.

The one who died, actually was quite feral, so I knew little of his problems. He wasn't eating his favorite dry food is what I first noticed, then he hardly ate any wet food. I finally got some money to take him to the vet. He, well it turned out he was a she, was extremely dehydrated and had a very low body temperature when he was sedated for examination. While administering fluids, she began having breathing problems and died of a probable heart attack. So I have no proof he was compromised by his food, but it's highly possible.

I saw her seeming to drink water often... I heated the water sometimes and she seemed to like it, is what I thought was going on... And going to the litter "box" area much more often than usual, but didn't realize the issues involved. Cats are very good at hiding illnesses. I don't have concrete proof of how much the food is related to the health issues, but I have switched to other foods and only the one senior cat is still having problems... He can't seem to get over the health issues.

Last week, after consuming most of a new case, my 7 cats became nauseous and lethargic, and projectile-vomited bile and blood, and refused to eat the Friskies, which was weird, as that had been their preferred food. They were becoming dehydrated. My three dogs also became lethargic and lost their appetites. I was afraid we had been poisoned. After reading the complaints already posted, I got some Hill Prescription Diet from my vet, and quit letting the dogs eat Friskies scraps, and within hours, the cats began to perk up, and the dogs are finally hungry today. My vet advised me to post on here, and to contact Chewy, the Friskies manufacturer, and the government, so here we go. Thank you to previous posters who warned about this, and I sincerely hope all is well at your house now.

Updated on 05/12/2018: Chewy refunded me my last purchase of Friskies the same day I told them about our experience of Friskies making my cats seriously sick and making my dogs sick as well. Chewy said they were filing a complaint with Purina, but I have no further information.

Purina answered my email and asked me to call an 800 number to give them more information. When I called, that woman told me they had all the information Purina needs, and to expect a call from a Specialist within hours or days to refund my vet bills. That was April 23, and as of today, May 12, that call has not happened and no money, coupons, or correspondence has arrived in my mailbox.

Most of the reviews the cats were refusing the food or there was visible mold or foul odor on the product and in other cases like mine the cats ate it and there were no visible issues or smells but they got sick. I noticed a lot of the people recording these problems were also multi-cat household which in my opinion makes the evidence more credible.

Both threw up a large amount of blood mixed with food that appeared like a murder scene. One of my cats literally continued to have drops of blood dripping from his mouth, after two days of not eating on its own I had to force feed him and same with water to keep him hydrated. I used Gerber Chicken Baby food and another major brand of wet food.

In three days fully recovered slowly starting to eat and drink of its own. Of course I don't recommend waiting but using your own judgment since my cat slowly recovered and then fully recovered. I thought it was a good sign and something with the food must have caused irritation of the bowel or internal organs. The other cat seems to have recovered immediately. This happened last night and will continue to monitor my second cat. I usually get the shredded or flavored sauce wet food and have never had problems. In the past I mix pate with water and had no issues. The issues I encountered when feeding PATE undissolved with water, so not really sure if the texture of the pate is too thick for their organs or harmful for cats. I will continue to use Friskies Wet Food But NO to the Pate. I would appreciate if this corrected by Friskies to avoid other cats and owners encountering such a scare. Thanks.

The kittens still would try to eat it, but the rest would run away. Some trying to bury it, like cats do.

Then they all started getting sick. Vomiting something that looked more like feces than vomit. My youngest kitten was so lethargic we took him to the vets. They couldnt find anything wrong. But gave medication in hopes of fixing whatever it was. Then his nose started to split and get raw... We thought it was an injury but then TWO OTHERS got the same thing, one with a sore on its tongue also and constantly drooling. It's taken 3 weeks for them to start acting like themselves again. They have lost massive amounts of weight, and seem almost fearful of pate type of food now. With all these other complaints, this has to be what happened to my cats. My other cat, however, still enjoyed Friskies canned food, but I had to stop serving it to him as well, because he vomited twice in one week after eating the seafood flavors (he had never vomited before).

The second time he vomited, his neck got swollen and he became lethargic. The vet recommended that I change his food. Since then, I have been feeding all my cats a better quality cat food, or boiling chicken for them, and they have been eating all their food, every time, and nobody has vomited at all. I used to think it was normal for cats to act "finicky" and refuse food occasionally, or to vomit every few days, but I now realize that if you serve them good food, they will accept the food and not vomit.

Have seen no problems with my recent purchases of Friskies... with 4 cats, I get it frequently. One reviewer talked of bad food in a dented, opened can... That would be true of any food, for cats or humans. Will keep my eyes open, but as a veterinarian at a Feline Only practice... I have seen no problems with Friskies canned cat food. Purina is a very reputable company that has been in the business for many years. THEY HAVE SPENT MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON RESEARCH (PET FRIENDLY) AND HAVE VERY LOYAL SUPPLIERS. I have much respect for Purina, but, as said, will keep my eyes open.

We've fed our cats Friskies canned food for years. In the last couple of months, they no longer will eat any flavor and occasionally vomit what they do eat. Our older cat seems to be constipated and now hates the Friskies food. A friend in a different city said she is experiencing the same thing with her cats, who now only lick the gravy and have vomiting fits when they do eat it. Looking online, there are many reports of the same thing happening; in some instances, the cats have become very ill with contaminants or parasites after eating the Friskies brand! We will abandon the use of Friskies, as it may actually harm our cats! Purina has to know this is happening, as the adverse reports are overwhelming in volume. I intend to write them about this problem, but I doubt they'd admit to any issues due to potential liability; if you use Friskies, I'd advise finding another brand to avoid harming your pet!

Friskies has some explaining to do. My cats are clearly avoiding this food. They've been eating Friskies for a long time and suddenly in January they both started throwing up and they're completely uninterested in eating it now. My cat Magnus goes CRAZY for wet food normally and even he won't eat it. What is the deal?? Should I be concerned? These are my babies and I'm going to be very unhappy if I hear they've been ingesting anything dangerous.

I have been feeding my fur baby Purina Friskies since she was able to start weening from her mother. She has been eating the wet cat food for a year now. On February 24, 2018 I purchased her usual 12 can pack. She tasted it and that was it. She absolutely refuses to eat it! Normally she'd lick the bowl clean! She always excited for breakfast and dinner! Not now! She has been feeling under the weather a little since the first tasting on February 24, 2018. My fur baby is in perfect health! I do not like this, I don't like how she feels now as if she's sort of sickly.

After putting her food in her bowl I didn't giver treats or anything thinking maybe she was snacking too much. That was not the problem. The problem is the food. I smelled it and it certainly smells different from the normal smell. Even my mother's cat stuck her nose up at it. So I tried dog because God knows he'll eat anything and to my amazement he also turned his nose up at it too! My cat hates dry food but wow she was happy to eat it tonight! I would really like to know what's going on. My cat has a small surgery March 1 to be fixed and if she's not better I surely will have test ran to see if somethings wrong from the wet cat food! I'm very disappointed and so is my fur baby!

Updated on [02/28/2018]: I wrote a review earlier. After the review I contacted customer service. I gave the date I bought the 12pk of meaty bites, the number on the barcode and dates. He asked me for the store and address of where I purchased. I gave all required information. He informed me I had a bad batch. I asked if it would make my cat sick since she's not her usual self. He responded no. I then asked what's a bad batch. He explained there's a sanitation process on the conveyor belts and that it had not went through the process, that other foods may have gotten mixed in.

He proceeded to tell me he's sending out a coupon to replace the 12pk of Purina Friskies food. I asked if my call and information would be kept on file because my cat is being fixed March 1st 2018 that if she was still feeling bad she wouldn't be able to have her surgery. I informed him I would have them check her for any related illness that is related to the bad food. They can send all the coupons they want. I refuse to feed my fur baby this again! Why on earth would I give her something when I was informed I had a bad batch and it was shipped out and put on the store shelf anyway. Absolutely not!!! I suggest calling them and filing your compliant with the actual company too! Purina customer service number 1-800-778-8864.

I regularly fed my cat the Friskies pate for almost 2 years, all kinds, since she likes variety. But last November I found the contents were moldy, and no the cans were not dented and the expiration date was always 2019. The one photographed here is only one I discovered of many. Upon alerting Friskies I was refunded the piddly $13 I paid, but it doesn't cover the vet costs when she got ill before I found out it was the food that caused the illness. Not every can was riddled with mold so obviously. Other ones had tinges you might miss if you aren't looking closely.

After finding this out I started inspecting the others and every can had little bits, or lot of, mold. So disgusting. It's been months since then, they didn't recall it, and they should have because I know I'm not the only one who found this mold. Instead they gave me coupons which I promptly threw away. I'm thankful my cat became her healthy self again quickly after switching her food to a different, non-Purina brand. But some cats may not be so lucky. Friskies should have to pay for the vet bills and recall their nasty food. Our animals deserve better!!!

I've been feeding my cats Friskies Paté canned food for years, but with the last batch I bought 1 week ago, they will not eat any of the flavors. One cat avoided eating the entire day, but still acted hungry. He would not take the food. Later that night a huge pile of puke was on the floor (it actually resembled a runny poop)... But it was as if he barfed up a few days of cat food. (FRISKIES has changed something). Because now all 3 of my cats will not eat the food. I went to the vet and got them a prescribed food (CD-DIET). They eagerly eat that and I put a tablespoon of the Friskies food in the center. They ate around the Friskies food. My big cat, who normally is a hog... Even avoided it... Now. I hope I'm not going to have to take all 3 cats to the vet and there isn't some type of poison in the food. Friskies better fess up on what they changed. Because this is not normal for 3 cats all at the same time to stop eating what they would normally like to consume.

I have multiple cats. I fed Friskies dried food for years. Everything seemed fine. Suddenly my cats started becoming obviously ill. They began gaining weight, lethargy, bladder infections, gum disease. My Himalayan died at the age of 10 from heart failure. He was always healthy and suddenly he got sick and died. I didn't blame the food until my vet asked what I feed my cats. When I told her Friskies she said that the food had little nutrients and way too much sodium. Very little actual protein. She told me my poor Kitty's heart gave out and sodium exasperated his condition. He passed before his prime and I was devastated. Thinking it was a fluke. Just poor Boo couldn't handle the food I didn't switch. Then my other cat developed stomatitis. The vet said this is also due to the bad food Friskies. My other cat began getting recurring UTI. Again the brand of food to blame.

I finally switched food brands. My cats slowly began to heal. The one with stomatitis will never be completely cured. I lost one of my most beloved cats and nearly lost another. I suspect that the food also played a huge role in the death of my first cat as he too suffered gum and kidney issues. This food is not going to poison your cats quickly. Rather it slowly destroys them by being unhealthy with little nutrients. This food does not provide the cats with essential vitamins to keep them healthy. I may seek legal action. My cats suffered because this company lied about the benefits and quality of product. Nowhere does it say that the sodium levels can destroy the heart. Or the lack of protein will damage kidneys. Or the grains and sugars destroy teeth and gums.

It wasn't until I gave her some Friskies dry food that she actually dug in enthusiastically. I was so glad to find something she seemed to really enjoy! I've since learned that dry cat food is not very healthy for cats, that wet food is healthier for their digestive systems. This upset me because I wanted her to feel satisfied and enjoy her meals. I've learned that if you feed your cat dry food, you should encourage her to drink water.

Water helps the dry food move through the digestive system. Pet water fountains are recommended for this. So I got one and now the cat drinks water so much more often than she did out of a bowl of still water. They say cats don't have a high thirst drive unless the water is moving, like a natural body of water. All I know is she loves her pet fountain and I hope it's making the dry cat food flow safely for her. I still feed her wet food first which she never finishes, and then I supplement with dry cat food.
