We've fed Purina Puppy Chow, since we've had them & our newest 10 year old blind Mini Pin, that we've had for 6 months now, is on it & she has beautiful fur, has started playing again & doing so much better since her rescue! Our other Mini Pin little boy, was rescued at 9 months & is now 5 years! He has come a long way & is playful, with a beautiful coat & healthy, because of Purina Puppy Chow!

Too dry for dog taste but needs more moist ingredients to taste better... better health. Dog isn't that happy but she eats anyway. Would rather give her combo of moist and dry.

My dog is an American Terrier Pit Bull. I got her from a rescue shelter so I had no way of knowing what food she was accustomed to. I began using Purina Adult mix. She has always liked it and I believe it to be a healthy brand. If I should give her anything but Purina then she gets very loose stools. When I change back to Purina then she seems more content and at ease when going for a walk.

My dog loves the food. I chose it because of the ingredients...there are no legumes or corn fillers. It was recommended by a veterinarian. The only downside is that it is somewhat difficult to buy in stores where I live, so I've been buying it from Chewy.com.

We have a range of dogs from medium (Keeshond) to small (Pomeranian) and a range of ages 6 to 12(?)*. We use Purina Salmon-based Sensitive Systems. It is a small enough kibble for the poms, but substantial enough for the Kees. We supplement the kibble with a homemade chicken-Sweet Potato-Veggie wet mix. The dogs love this diet and have regular well-formed stools. The only reason we would change would be if the food became unavailable. It is getting somewhat hard to find.

My dog always liked the food so I did not change to a less expensive food. Unfortunately he had to be put down due to liver dysfunction, pancreatitis, and gall bladder involvement. Vet could not pinpoint the cause. He was 11 and had no signs of illness. Everything culminated in matter of 3-4 days. The vet bill would have been close to 15K plus he would have been on a feeding tube. All this caused by the food? We don't know.

My min-pin loves the special chunks in the mix, so much so that he carries a mouthful out of his room to the room we are sitting in to eat it there. He never has stomach issues while eating this brand. The fact that it is dry seems to help keep his teeth clean. Being dry makes it possible to be on constant feed.

I have a 14 month old German Shepherd who I've fed Purina dog food her entire life. However I've always made sure it was just chicken! Because she's allergic to beef. Had been feeding her Purina complete care “chicken” however lately she's not wanting to eat it and she's starting to lose weight, getting dry skin and extremely!! Itchy and just miserable! So I decided to double check the ingredients and of course there's BEEF FAT!! In the food. Why would you put BEEF FAT! In a food that says chicken!? Now I'm having to give her ** to stop her itching and am slowly giving her a different food. My point being do not! Say it's a complete care chicken! If it's got beef in it. Talk about false advertising! I will never feed any kind of Purina product to any of my animals again or recommend it to anyone. I guess the saying "you get what you pay for" is definitely correct in this case. I may be on a budget but no more low end dog food for my pets.

He gradually started getting really sick & refused to eat. Took him to the vet & he was fine eating their prescription canned food. After that ran out, we gave him Purina again. He refused to eat it. I even put a little water in it. I decided to start a new food (natural/grain free) and he’s 100% better. He’s excited again to eat, jumps up & down at mealtime, more energy. I know it was this dog food. I feel bad for giving it to him all this time when it was making him miserable.

I have fed my dogs and cats Purina foods and treats for over 35 years and have always had very healthy and happy animals. My vet as well as any vet I have talked to over my lifetime have always recommended and approved of Purina products. And my pets love the foods and treats, either canned or dry. They are of the highest quality and always made in the USA. Feeding Purina has kept my animals very healthy. And well into senior years. My husky lived to be 16 about and very happy and healthy. And that is not uncommon for my babies at all. Like I said well into their senior years. My poodle is 15 and no health issues at all, still runs and plays. My cat is 17 and again in top health and very active.

My vet as well as myself attribute this to the excellent nutrition they receive by eating Purina pet foods and treats 100 percent complete nutrition for every stage of life and every activity level. They even have special diets and foods for dogs with food allergies or sensitive stomachs. I love this product, I love this company and their customer service cannot be beat to the best of my knowledge, they have never had a recall on a product that I can ever remember. In my years of experience and I am over 65 and had pets as long as I can remember. Purina has never let me or my babies down from very young animals to very old ones simply the best company and foods on the market.

However, I mix the dry food with canned Pedigree varieties. Otherwise, I believe my dogs would have gotten much sicker, and they are still sick. Up all night trying to catch them when they needed to go outside before another accident. This morning it's chicken and rice for them, and the bag of Purina Dog Chow goes in the trash after I contact their address on the bag! Do not try to save a buck and end up with sick dogs. After feeding my dog Puppy Chow he started getting lethargic - had severe diarrhea gas. I did not think it would be the dog food since I know the quality control that Purina has so I continue to feed my dog 15 lb bag the Puppy Chow. I was ready to have him put to sleep because he couldn't hold his bowels. We tried ** probiotic. I changed his dog food and after the first feeding his stool stiffen back up. He is more energetic now - eating good, sleeping good, no more whining, no more biting at his tail. I will never purchase Puppy Chow again. Didn't consider it may be the food so I fed it to him again. By the evening he was even more lethargic, loose bowel, slowly walking in circles nipping at his tail instead of playfully running around like his normal self. Both eyes are weak and one is barely open. He seems to be off balance. He won't bark or play just quietly whimpers all of a sudden. After reading the other reviews and consider the rapid onset, I'm convinced it's the Purina dog food as nothing else in terms of exposure has changed. Mind you in less than 24 hours my pup is having a negative reaction after eating Purina. Prior to he was as happy and energetic as any healthy would be. Very upset and highly disappointed Purina!

I have 3 large dogs who are relatively healthy, 2 are pit bulls and 1 a pit bull St. Bernard MIX, due to circumstances I was forced to switch dog foods due to costs of previous food, so I introduced them to Purina dog chow mixed with their other food and they handled the transition wonderfully but then seen that Purina makes adult dog chow complete beef, so I DID the same thing on introducing this food to them. Now I'm just feeding them the adult dog chow complete beef and they are sick!!! Throwing up piles of food, phlegm and gagging, so I had them checked out and was told to give them rice cooked in chicken broth to settle their tummies. Ok did that and slowly reintroduced the dog chow again following the vet's instructions.

Now they're all 3 throwing up, gagging, large amounts of loose stools! Shame on you Purina. This food is killing animals while making others so sick, costly vet bills, constantly cleaning up after them and watching them suffer! Someone in your manufacturing plant is mixing something wrong or are purposely poisoning our dogs! I want action taken! Boycott Purina, Purina you are accountable for this, if it was just 1 or 2 dogs I'd say no but there are several possibly hundreds of sick dogs out there all because of your dog food. I'm so upset and feel like a horrible pet mom because I trusted this company not to hurt my babies! No more Purina. I rate you minus a million.

My dog a 3 year old Mini Australian Shepherd who is always healthy (no problems or concerns with the vet after any visit), active (5 mile hikes, 1.5 mile walks in the evening before bed, frisbee player), and just a characteristic dog... until just a few days ago. I gave the Purina healthy weight dog food to manage his weight with him being slightly overweight. Everything was fine. Then suddenly in 1 week of switching his food, he wasn't being himself. Whenever he would lay down, he would dig at the blankets while crying and spinning in circles, then he would stretch and continue to lick anything that was in front of him excessively. He had a very dry mouth.

Took him to the vet showed the videos of his "episode" and how frequently they were happening from 12am-4pm there was 3 episodes. Then on the 30 min ride to the vet he had 3 in the seat of my car. He would still play with the other dog, run around the yard and chase birds, but it wasn't as much as he normally did on an everyday basis. Something was wrong, and it was something major. The vet then diagnosed him with seizures. A PERFECTLY healthy 3 YO dog, up until this point after giving him that terrible dog food! HE is now on **, with bad effects to the liver, that will need to be monitored through bloodwork. PLEASE do not give this dog food to your pets.

As a vet assistant, I researched and read how wonderful Purina is a great brand of food, healthy, etc. to make sure I was giving my dog a food good for him only to have this happen. I couldn't imagine the vet bills without my discount of working at a Vet hospital. Everyone can be misinformed. But this food shouldn't be able to be sold anymore but because the company is made of $$$ they can just pay their way off these terrible things happening to pets. Every pet can be different, but I think it was the amounts of Propylene Glycol that Purina uses in their foods, is what was setting him off. The dog food is the ONLY thing that I changed for this to happen.

Dogs have been fed this for couple years because of cost of feeding 2 large dogs on a fixed income. Experienced some issues as I recall in the beginning such as diarrhea but attributed that to switching brands. Just lost dog yesterday... she had to be euthanized and emergency vet said it appeared to be toxin ingestion. I believe it’s directly related to this latest bag as this is when symptoms began: violent diarrhea until food was withheld for 36-48 hours & she bounced back happy & perky as when she was a puppy. Then last evening very soon after eating 2 cups of this she began standing around panting as if she was hot and went out briefly but came right back in & collapsed vomiting everything on her bed and own paw and her symptoms worsened quickly as we rushed her to emergency hospital.

I believe the last statement below from Nestle Purina as quoted in DVM360 could explain what’s happening: > Propylene glycol is found in Nestlé Purina's Beneful and some Dog Chow brands of dry dog food. "Propylene glycol functions as a humectant food additive and preservative... > Nestlé Purina pet foods, including Beneful, are "only released after we confirm all of the ingredients are included at the right levels. Apr 1, 2015 Propylene glycol: Educate yourself and your veterinary clients. DVM360 Magazine › veterinarynews › p... “All ingredients are included at the RIGHT LEVELS...” Things happen & go wrong in factories all the time and “mistakes” are corrected when caught but “in the meantime” product with “mistakes” is “lost” in the production line and already sealed, ready for shipment.

What if more than the “correct level” was actually introduced in some bags? This would explain so much... I’m waiting for a callback with an estimate for a necropsy to see if I can somehow swing it to prove propylene glycol was the toxin before she’s cremated. To ‘Holly from Some City, Ohio’ I’d like to say: PRAY this doesn’t happen to you & your dog! Something IS going on here...

We spent $20,000 documented only to be told by Purina they would not cover a single dime. I had an 11 years old Redbone Coonhound dog. She was full of energy, and behaved and looked like a puppy. She had a shiny fur and a robust body, and rarely ever got sick. Smart & Final run out of her food, and promised to have it the next day. Ten days later, they still didn't have it, and I run out of dog food. So I bought Purina Dog Chow. She started feeling bad the same day. It started with nonstop drinking, and watery diarrhea. The next day she became lethargic, she had labored breathing and refused to get out of bed. I added some salt to her water, to compensate for loss of electrolytes, due to the diarrhea. Her breathing became normal almost immediately, and she started getting on her weak legs. Her stool seemed to get gradually better, and she went back to eating. A few hours later, she had her 1st very violent and long seizure. It knocked her down for an hour.

Two days later, she had a seizure every 4-5 hours. By now, she looked like a wreck. Her mouth had constant strings of saliva, and her eyes full of puss. When she refused to eat chicken livers, the food she liked the most, I gave up all hopes. Two days ago, she refused both water and food. I couldn't see her suffering and euthanized her yesterday morning. We are heartbroken and depressed. How could this have happened in just about 6 days? I became suspicious about the food only yesterday night. As I couldn't sleep of the horrible and endless thoughts, that I poisoned my beloved dog with this food, and then euthanized her for being too sick. I have the sack of food here, of which she maybe ate just 1%.

The majority of the reviews I read today about Purina food, confirmed my suspicions. I am completely devastated. She was my only family. I am having nonstop migraines since the 1st moment I started suspecting that the food was essentially a poison. I know that the case against Purina was dismissed at the court, but it was a huge mistake. We have to get together and sue them again. Please contact me if you are interested.

Horrified when I found out my parents had switched my dogs to Purina while I was away. One of my dogs has epilepsy and once she was moved to this food, starting having seizures on the regular, despite their frequency being on a downward slope for many years. Poured out what was left in the bin and immediately replaced with Zignature. Her seizures have been happening less frequently for the past few months, but I'm still worried... Purina is one of the lowest quality dog foods on the market. If you love your pet, do your research and find a better food. (Iams/Pedigree/Beneful are no better.)

IQ tests should be given before they let people go public. My dog loves Purina Dog Chow, has done very well on it, with no problems, and if he did have a problem I'd take him to a vet to determine whats wrong before I blame the dog food company.

We have been using Purina Natural Puppy Chow for almost a year. Our Golden Doodle has done fine with it, but in October we added a German Shepherd Mix to our family, he did not do so well with it. He has had diarrhea since the first day we got him. We got him tested and he did have parasites but even after they were rid of he still had slimy, bloody stool. Our vet suggested giving him a bland food to help settle his stomach. That has worked to some extent but it wasnt until I came onto this site and read some of the reviews of the dog Chow that I thought it could be the initial food we had been giving him. This week I started him on IAMS dog food and TWO DAYS later his stool is finally healthy and how it should be. My only regret is not thinking that it could be his dog food sooner, then he would have been in less pain and I would have a lot less money spent on vet bills.

I-- thinking I was being frugal--- put him on Purina Puppy Chow, and ever since the first day of eating it he's had watery stools and has been extremely thirsty. I'm a skeptic by nature so I read everything I could find on the possible causes for his suffering. I decided to throw the Purina away and put him on a bland diet of boiled chicken and cooked brown organic rice with a little mineral salt. Within 24 hours his energy has returned to normal and more importantly, he is now passing normal looking stools. I plan to put him on a high quality food from now on. This is a beautiful dog, and shame on Purina for all the hardships they have caused for so many.

This is it in a nutshell... About a month or so ago I bought some Purina Complete Dog Chow (dry kibble) for my Chihuahua-mix dog. Since I started feeding her the food everything was fine, until a couple weeks ago she started acting different like she was starving and very skittish, so I brushed it off thinking maybe she was just really hungry and continued feeding it to her just giving her a bigger portion. Then last week I left her at home for about an hour to do some shopping and when I came back she had thrown up all over her bedding and on the floor... and the whole next day it was the same thing, whenever I would check on her there would be more throw up.

Luckily the next day I had an appointment to get her nails trimmed so I decided that if she wasn't better by the next morning I would ask her vet about it. She still didn't seem 100% but the vet said without running tests they couldn't be sure what was wrong. After the vet visit she still was acting lethargic but the vomiting had stopped. Last night she had eaten all her food in her food bowl so I grabbed the bag of food and opened it and was about to pour some into the dish... But I just got the feeling I needed to look into the bag... And what I found is absolutely disgusting.

It was a finger dressing... That has dried blood in the inside... I wrapped it in a cellophane from a cigarette pack to keep it. I'm pretty sure I found the reason my dog was sick. There is absolutely no possibility that it is from myself or my parents who were the only ones it could have come from, so that leaves only the people who manufactured it... I will never buy this again.

Was recommended to put my new puppy on puppy chow large breed by my vet. After ruling out several bacterial infections with antibiotics, vet and I reviewed the "new" ingredients list. Turns out the food has almost no meat in it now, is loaded up with tripe and corn, and has a ton of red dye in it. We both were also horrified to find they use garlic oil in it, as all parts of the onion family are toxic to dogs. Some dogs can tolerate small amounts of garlic, many breeds develop very bad reactions that can be life threatening. The fact that a dog food would contain it at all is mortifying considering they recommend so much more kibble to be fed than higher quality brands. My pup now has IBD from the intestinal damage done from this food after 7 weeks of testing. He now routinely has to take medications or has internal bleeding and diarrhea. Soon as that's gone get more but it's the "new brand" once again - they start to get sick so I connected the dots there has to be something wrong with this new ingredient stuff. It smells fine but clearly there is an issue b.c when I find the old brand everything is fine (and it's getting harder and harder to find the original brand.) I change my dogs' food every two years or so just to give them a variety. A few years ago I switched them to Beneful. Within a short period of time my beautiful Boxer lost half of the hair on his back, and my Pointer started to have full blown seizures. My vet ran a thyroid test on my Boxer which was negative. I told her the only thing that was different was that I had changed dog food, but told her that I already suspected something was wrong with it, and changed it back. Within a couple of weeks my Boxer's hair was completely filled back in, and my Pointer never had another seizure. They were completely fine on another brand.

Just recently I was around that two year period so I thought I might try a more natural product. I purchased Beyond. This was a huge mistake on my part because I completely missed the fact that it was a Purina product. Within a couple of weeks my Pointer started getting that glazed over look in his eyes, which he had when he was having a seizure. That's when we realized it was again a Purina product. Since I have large dogs, I go through a lot of food, and had another unopened bag. It went straight back to the store. I ended up losing my Boxer, and in my opinion, I swear it was from this dog food. I even told my son one day, if it's making his hair fall out, I can't imagine what it's doing to him internally. The same went for my Pointer. I also have an American Bull dog, and even though we didn't see such drastic issues as our with our other two dogs, she just plain didn't like it.

I really don't understand why nothing continues to be done about these products, and this company. They are literally killing animals, and nobody but us pet owners seems to care. Please tell everyone you know. Maybe it will save a few precious pets. I actually stopped someone in the store with a big bag of Beneful one day. I told him my story, and that maybe he might want to choose a different brand. I will continue to do it too. Animals and their owners shouldn't have to deal with crap like this. They count on us to take care of them, and we count on these suppliers. I wish Purina would go out of business. They should be ashamed to put out products like this.

Your dog/cat could be eating a euthanized animal or roadkill, and yes this is from research. You need to have specific sources of the ingredients. Just like 9Lives, Pedigree, Alpo and many others, this is TRASH. I don't think you would want to feed yourself euthanized house pets or a shelter animal. Do your research and realize that THIS IS KILLING ANIMALS. There's a reason that these brands are at the back of the pet store and that you can get away with buying 50 pounds of food for just maybe $20 and that is sick. Please, save your fur babies from eating this junk. Natural/organic pet food is expensive but vet bills are much more expensive.

We switched her to Purina and her coat soon became thick and luxurious and the gas problem disappeared.

The kind I used most recently was the Senior 7+. I bought it because of the high fiber content that my 16-year-old SharPei/Boxer needed to help with firming up her stools. I had tried other high fiber foods but she didn't like the taste, so this one was next on the list to try. She liked it, so we went through several bags. Unfortunately she died a few months ago. The doc thought it was most likely cancer.

I decided to research recalls but there is nothing. I read the reviews here and he is having the same symptoms. I'm taking the food back!! Something is going on and it should be recalled. After reading these review I decided I needed to post one as well. I purchased a large bag of Purina Puppy Chow a few months ago. I recently noticed that one of my dogs got sick... Just thought it might have eaten too quickly or because of the heat. But then one after another they all began to vomit very yellow, watery vomit. I knew they didn't get into anything and could not figure out anything different that could have caused this till my husband said "it's got to be the food." I stopped feeding the food and went and got a new bag and the vomiting stopped. The stools are starting to get back to normal. I called Purina and told them I believe their food caused my dogs/puppies to be sick. They asked for the UPC code and mfg code and good till this date info but didn't seem shocked that this could happen or anything.

The lady I spoke with said she would pass information to department that handles but I have not heard a word from them. I did ask her if they wanted the food back to test to see if there was something wrong with it and she said no. I asked her if I should return to the store so they can pull the rest from their shelves and she replied "if you want." I did return the remaining bag to the store for a refund and let them know the food was bad. So now after seeing all these reviews I will never get this food for my dogs/puppies again. I just hate to think what would have happened had I kept feeding this to them.

For a solid week he had bloody blow outs from his rectum and had lost a lot of weight. Thank God he is finally stabilizing, but we nearly lost him. My other dog will not even look at his food any more. I contacted Purina informing them of my loyal business along with my nearly 2000 dollar vet bill. We adopted my dog from a shelter when she was 8 months old. We have been feeding her Purina Puppy/Dog Chow for the past 6 years. Initially, she happily ate the dry kibble mix. We soon started adding additional food sources to her pet food for two reasons: to improve the quality of her diet and because she slowly began to lose interest in her dry food. We added eggs, homemade chicken broth, chicken/turkey/beef/pork, and veggies. As time passed, she became more and more reluctant to touch the Purina dog food, but she GLADLY ate everything else. As time passed, we've had to put more effort into hiding her kibble mix with other foods, otherwise she would avoid it. But eventually, even that was not enough. I can't even count how many times I had to dump out all of the food in her bowl and make her a new meal that completely excluded Purina. Then, and only then, would she eat. Within the past few months, she has also become more and more picky with commercial dog treats and certain fresh veggies/fruits. I didn't think anything of this behavior at the time.

One week ago, my dog became lethargic, less interested in food/water/playtime/walks, completely avoided all fruits and vegetables I attempted to feed her, developed crusting/scabbing on her nose, and began limping and showed signs of pain in her back legs. All of these symptoms increased in severity over the next few days and her condition continued to decline, so I immediately took her to the vet. She was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease system lupus erythematosus, which explained all the symptoms she was having.

After reading up on the ingredients in commercial dog food and the serious diseases and illnesses they cause in humans and pets (some of them are so toxic that they aren't even allowed for human consumption), it became clear that the Purina dog food she has been eating for the past 6 years has ultimately caused her immune system to malfunction, resulting in an incurable (at least, according to modern medicine) disease. The proposed treatment is to minimize symptoms with steroids to suppress the immune system, until she eventually dies of illness (most likely kidney failure) from the combined effects of the drugs and the disease.

As soon as I learned about her condition, I immediately ditched her Purina kibble mix, switched her over to a RAW diet, and give her an immune-boosting herbal supplement, Essiac. Within 1 day, she began to show signs of improvement. It is currently day 3, and she is continuing to return to her former healthy state, although she still has ways to go.

I am ecstatic that my pup is doing better, but I am enraged that this even happened in the first place. I've spent over $600 so far just trying to figure out what was wrong with my dog. Once she was diagnosed, I had to spend money again to buy her a completely new food source and the Essiac supplement (I have been taking this supplement myself to improve and maintain my own health, so I already had some on hand, but I quickly realized I need to purchase more ASAP. ) On top of that, I have been wasting my hard-earned dollars over the past 6 years on this (expensive) garbage and sorry excuse for dog food that was supposed to feed my dog and keep her happy, healthy, and alive. Instead, it did just the opposite.

I have been neglecting myself over the past few days because I am doing everything I can to improve my dog's condition. I am stressed out, completely fatigued, and just all-around haven't been taking care of myself as well as I should. So not only is my dog suffering, but I am as well! Thanks, Purina. I still have two giant unopened bags of this crap sitting in my basement that I NEVER plan on feeding to my dog or any future pets ever again. I will attempt to return it to the pet store. If they refuse, I will contact Purina. I am tossing this crap (and the dog treats) and making it my top priority to educate everyone I know on the dangers of commercial dog food and the benefits of eating a raw diet. UGH, NEVER AGAIN!

This is an add-on from 9/9/13, when I originally posted about the Purina dog food my dogs had eaten and the BUGS that flew out of the bag. I had/have a little 15 lb. poodle that has dental issues, so his feedings consisted of small amount of dry kibbles, with added canned food with a small amount of hot water to soften his food -- so he consumed small amounts of the Purina dog chow. I also had a gorgeous, beautiful, healthy Labradoodle, "Mocha", who was the "daughter of my dreams". Mocha weighted about 70 lbs., and ate about 3 cups of kibbles every day with a small amount of canned food mixed-in just so she would not feel "left out" with Muffie getting the canned food.

On September 29, 2013, my precious "daughter" succumbed to the EXTREME kidney and liver failure caused by ingesting Purina dog food. This conclusion has been reached by ME, HER VETS (including ER Vets), due to the Purina dog food being THE ONLY THINGS THE TWO HAD IN COMMON!! I helplessly watched as my Angel died slowly before my eyes -- and there was NOTHING I could do. I blame myself because I fed that rotten, spoiled, disgusting, murderous food to my babies!!! My Vet bills are well in excess of $5,000.00, and my little poodle still isn't well.

PLEASE, PLEASE, IF YOU FEED YOUR ANGELS PURINA DOG FOOD AND/OR SNACKS, WATCH THEM CAREFULLY AND SEEK IMMEDIATE VET HELP IF YOU NOTICE VOMITING, LETHARGY, SLEEPY EYES, DIARRHEA, SHAKING, UNSTEADY STANDING/WALKING, NIGHTMARES, MOANING IN THEIR SLEEP. It is too late for my Mocha and I am just praying for my little Muffie. I cry everyday for the loss of my Mocha.

I have always used Purina Puppy & Dog Chow for 10 years. I go thru 80lbs a week and I notice in the past 8 months that all my dogs are eating twice as much but also all 4 are having weird health issues. All 4 are purebred Boxers. 8 1/2yr old male is puking, rashes formed and spreading on chest, eyes draining snotty stuff endlessly and it has formed sores, hair loss in his muzzle creases, and on his paws like a weird fungal thing and it stinks horribly. 8 yr old females are both having endless icky stinky eyes snotty draining and their bellies are making loud grumbling and their gas is 100x worse than ever, and boxers are gassy dogs. They seem to be itchy all the time.

One of them has recently started eating the others poop. Then my 3 yr old male has formed dermatitis around eyes with hair loss and his ear flaps are always red, swollen, inflamed, crusty with brownish wax stuff in ear. Itching is bad. Plus the same endless eye snot draining causing the creases in muzzle to get raw, stinky, and hairless. I’m with them every day, all day. And I take them to the vet for checkups and they have been treated for what vet assumes is allergy. Well they are all on Benadryl, fish oil, coconut oil, cortisone creams and fungal sprays and eye drops. Until we could figure out what it can be they are allergic too. Well it has come to me after all this treatment and no relief. The only thing that has never changed was their food, Purina Dog Chow and I do not give table scraps at all. I just can’t imagine what it might be doing to their insides if they are this miserable on the outside.

It started with nausea, then vomiting with nausea, then nausea, vomiting, and discomfort, bloody slimy stools and malaise. He was unable to keep water down. He was very ill. We started an IV and antibiotics and he had to be flown to a nearby community with a vet. He spent several days at the pet hospital. Upon his return, he was on rice and boiled hamburger. I restarted my dog again to his dog food, Purina Dog Chow, slowly. The symptoms reappeared. I stopped the Purina Dog Chow and he recovered. I attribute my dog's illness with Purina Dog Chow.

Within a couple days one of my dogs began to get lethargic and vomit but continued to eat so I assumed he was recovering. Yesterday he died in my arms on the way to the vet. Last evening my remaining dog ate his dinner of dog chow mixed with moist food. He was restless all night and vomited this morning. I immediately got him into the car and held him while he died in the vet's parking lot.

I am in shock and grieving after losing both of my sweet canine boys within the last 24 hours and within days of switching to Purina dog chow. How do I get the dog food analyzed for contamination? I don't want anyone else to go through the heartache I am currently feeling. Irresponsible is the only word I have for this. Why exactly are their office supplies in the dog food for my dog to ingest?

If I wasn't looking, he would of swallowed that paperclip and it would of ripped his intestines and I would of had a dead dog. There should not be anything like paperclips on the factory floor. I am writing in regard to my dog becoming very sick after eating out of a new bag of Purina Dog Chow that I opened last week. I wanted to write more of a formal business letter in regard to this, but have not had the time as of yet. I figured that it was important for me to get this information to you as soon as possible in order to prevent it from happening to anyone else. Last week Friday, my dog vomited a few times. I put him on a white rice & boiled chicken diet to help settle his stomach. He seemed fine, but things suddenly changed from him mildly not feeling well to him being gravely ill in the middle of the night on Friday, May 17 (into Saturday). My husband & I were in the kitchen saying goodbye to friends when our dog came in the kitchen, sat down & was looking down at the ground. He didn't look right, so we called him to go outside. He got up, was very shaky & almost fell over, but did make it outside. He used the bathroom a little bit & then lied on the cool grass.

We knew something was not right with his behavior. We brought him back into the house & he immediately lied on the kitchen floor, very lethargic & not moving at all. I called an ER vet clinic that is about 25 minutes away from my home. We took him immediately. They proceeded to do X-rays to make sure that there wasn't a blockage that was causing him to throw up earlier that day. They also drew blood & found that the enzymes in his liver were 5 times higher than what they were supposed to be. There was another blood test that they had to do, but he had to fast for 8 hours 1st. He was given fluids at the ER & was eventually brought home to be brought back the next morning for the next blood test. The 2nd blood test also showed high liver enzymes. There were no signs of any muscle trauma or liver disease that could be causing this. It was now being asked had he gotten into something that he could've eaten.

We knew that was highly unlikely, given the way that our dog is. He is a very fussy dog when it comes to anything that he eats. He has been offered treats at the groomers & will not take it because it is unfamiliar. He will take things put them in his mouth to taste it, drop it, decide whether he really liked it or not, and then eat it. It was late Saturday evening when we finally got the 2nd blood test results back (after the fast). His enzyme levels were still high, but now as high as they were initially. We could've continued testing to see what was going on with his liver. However, he was behaving as if he was feeling much better. It all seemed more consistent with him eating something that made him very sick. We brought him home with antibiotics & continued feeding him the white rice & boiled chicken diet.

We were feeling like we were never going to know what made him so sick. Then, I remembered that I opened a brand new bad of dog food on Thursday night! It is the same food that we have always fed him, but I am thinking something must be wrong with either that bag of food, or possibly even that whole lot that went out. I don't know. I still have the bag, I still have some of the food that I put in a baggy, and I still have the receipt for the bag of food. I want to get the word out in order to make sure that this does not happen to anyone else. I, however, would also like to see how I could have this food tested to see if this was indeed the cause of him becoming so sick; as I do have roughly $900.00 in medical bills because of it. Lastly, his blood was re-checked on Friday, 5/16. We got the results on Monday, 5/20.

Thankfully, the results showed that everything with his liver is now back to normal. Again, this would be consistent in a case where a dog ate something that was contaminated or poisonous. Please get back to me in writing concerning this matter. Considering there are damages involved, I am not comfortable dealing with this issue over the phone at all. As mentioned, I would've preferred a more formal letter even. In the end, I felt it was more important for you to get this info faster, than waiting on a formal letter.

Today is the second round of extremely loose stool and bloody diarrhea that ALL three have had. The first time that it happened, I finally was able to track it down to the Purina puppy chow that we feed them. After not buying any of it for three months and thinking that maybe we had a bad batch of it, we tried it again. We feed them Meaty Choice in the meantime.

They have been absolutely fine for three months, but only a few days after going back to the Purina, the poor babies are all fighting the stuff again. I feel so sorry for them. The first time it happened, we took one of them to the vet and got some antibiotics, but nothing seemed to work until we switched the dog food. I kept thinking that it had to be something common to all three of them. Our water comes from a deep well and is fine. The only common denominator was the dog food. I am very upset that this is happening because of a dog food brand that I trusted. Shame on Purina! If there are as many complaints as I've seen about this online, then they should know that something needs to be addressed. I will never use a Purina product again for any of my pets!

Last year, she had two seizures. At the time, I thought she got stung by a bee. I bought a new bag and twice this month, she has had what can only be described as horrific seizures. I took her to the best old-fashioned country vet on the planet. He did a complete bloodwork up and everything was perfect, except her potassium was very high. The first question he asked me was "What kind of dog food do you give her?" I told him and he said, "Take her off of that immediately. Purina brings in meat from other parts of the country and that stuff is just bad for dogs."

Since there are no regulations on dog food, there is no telling what is in that food. I took her off of it and although she is not crazy about her new dog food, Science Diet with lamb and rice, she has not had a seizure. With all the bad reviews I'm reading, I am sure we did the right thing. She will eat it if I add some water and I feel like a bad dog mommy because I can tell she really wants her old food. But I'd be an even worse mommy if I gave it to her. Purina will never be brought back into my home again and I plan on telling everybody else about it too!

The dogs ate the first few bowls, but then refused to eat anymore. I assumed maybe they just didn't feel well since it was flu season. After not touching their food for three days, one dog finally ate and had immediate diarrhea. My other dog sniffed his bowl of food, whined, and then brought me the bowl of food and dumped it out. He sat there looking at me like he was saying feed me! So I went out and bought a different brand of food even though I still had most of the 50 lb. bag of Purina Dog Chow left. Both dogs scarfed it down and suddenly, their diarrhea was cured.

About a month later, I decided to once again try Purina Dog Chow just in case, for some reason, my previous bag was a bad bag. I even bought it at a different store as a precaution. Unfortunately, I had the same exact results. We have permanently switched to a different brand and haven't had an issue since. Out of curiosity, I posted on Facebook asking if any of my friends had similar problems with Purina products. Lo and behold, several had. I contacted Purina and was told, “We are sorry you are experiencing problems with our product. We will send you a coupon for a free bag.” Uhm, I don't want a free bag of their poison (LOL).

We have 3 dogs and 2 puppies that have been on Purina Dog or Puppy chow ever since we have had them, which is most of their lives. Recently, within the last month, I have noticed (one at time) them getting sick. We have a 15-year-old dog that occasionally will get sick because she is old and gets an upset stomach easily; it is never serious for her. When she started vomiting, we didn’t see it as odd. Our male lab is on seizure medication for his epilepsy (which is not genetic. It is caused by abuse from his previous owners so it is not a factor.) We thought his diarrhea and occasional vomiting was caused by the upped dose in his medicine. Once again, we didn’t connect the two - only when our two 8-month-old puppies begin vomiting and having diarrhea did we begin to wonder. Now, our other lab is having occasional vomiting as well.

We have changed nothing about their daily routines. We have not done any spraying or anything of that nature, and the dogs eat in different areas, so we know it is nothing they could all be exposed to. I feel it is also important to know the older dog is a mixed breed, so it is not something isolated among the lab breed. Both of their food bags were just purchased yesterday and opened this morning before feeding them. They are smaller bags, so it should not be an issue of rancid dog food. Three of them have vomited this morning. The only thing they all have in common is they all eat Purina Dog or Puppy chow. We always make sure to even get the exact same kibble type for them. I am quite concerned about this issue, especially when I saw all of these recent complaints. This most certainly appears to be a Purina issue, and it needs to be addressed.

I was wondering what was going on. I had some issues with my two-year old pitbull, Lacy. She has been on Purina dog chow (green bag) since I got her. We've never had any issues with the dog food choice. But recently, after I moved into my house and I started to work, I changed it to the Adult Dog Chow food and soon I noticed that she not only was throwing up but was having yellow-like sand as poop as well as vomiting foam from her mouth. I started to freak out, thinking that maybe she got something from my roommate's dog that has a ton of issues health wise. I took her to get a small check up and it seemed she just had a bug as they told me. Worried, I started to feed her what my mother told me which was cooked white rice and chicken bites. She seemed to feel better after a few nights of eating the home cooked meals but then I started to notice that she was losing a lot of weight and too fast. Scared to death that something was seriously wrong with her, I took her out and checked her all over.

Lacy had hive like red bumps all over her lower regions crawling up to her belly and chest and she was beginning to have hair loss around her tail. I had called her vet and they said it sounded like a type of mange as well as a possible food reaction or allergic reaction to something in the house. So, I decided to stop burning incense and candles, anything that released fragrances. I even went to Wal-Mart and bought some allergy pills to get her system to calm down. After about two weeks, it seemed the red bumps would not leave and her hair loss was getting worse. My boyfriend decided to check her bedding fabric and we even changed that. All the while, she was eating Purina. I had no idea that maybe the food was bad because she wasn't getting sick until a day or two after eating a bowl of the food.

But it was until one day I had to leave for work and I knew I wouldn't be able to get home to feed and walk her soon enough, so I gave her two scoops of the dog food to her. I came home and once again, she had thrown up and had that sand like waste all over her kennel. I was in tears because I had never seen my pitty get that sick before. I took her out, hosed her down, and gave her a bath the works! When an hour or so passed, I gave her a tiny amount of the food just to get something into her system and she completely walked away and nearly pulled me with her when I tried to put her back in her kennel. She wanted nothing to do with that food or to be near it. I knew then something was off. I checked the bag's date and it seemed it was still okay. I couldn't figure out why she wouldn't eat it. I've never had this problem before.

I waited a couple days, seeing that her weight was getting worse and the bumps wouldn't go away. I got her this wonderful dog food (that Wal-Mart no longer sells sadly). That literally it seemed overnight to the next afternoon that her bumps were gone and she was eating as if she had not had food placed before her in months. It was the Three Dog Bakery dog food. I was able to get her on that diet for about 8 weeks and her health inclined back to her normal 55lbs weight and it seemed that the dots were finally gone within that following eighth week.

Lacy will not go anywhere near Purina products even after I couldn't get the Three Dog Bakery food anymore. I tried to get her on the Be Happy dog food and even Beneful. She just will not eat anything of those dog foods. But what I can say is for those that are having this issue, what I did was base her diet with rice and cooked chicken and I placed her on the Three Dog Bakery food and it seemed to really help her. For now, I have her on O'l Roy and it seems that everything is back to normal. I hope nothing like this will ever happen again with my baby girl.

My brother (whom I live with) has been feeding his dog Purina Dog Chow in the green bag for years. Then we got a bag about 3 weeks ago, and ever since then, he seems to lose a lot of his energy, while snubbing the food. Then, early Tuesday morning, he began vomiting, and seemed unable to empty his bowels. From that point on, he became more and more lethargic, vomiting, very depressed acting (walking around with his head down and his tail tucked to his behind). The only upside was that he was drinking water and urinating with no problems.

At this point, he is in the veterinary hospital, and we don't know if he is going to live or die. The vets have done blood work on him, did exploratory surgery, to make sure that his digestive track wasn't blocked (it wasn't). However, his digestive track is very badly irritated and the vet is thinking micro toxins. I called Purina today and they essentially took down an incident report and are sending a coupon but we already know it won't be used. We are done with all Purina products. Thanks for all the reviews. What I am seeing here in them is the same symptoms that our dog is having. Something is very wrong with this dog food!

We have fed our dogs the same food for a very long time. They have strong appetites and are active and healthy. We recently switched to Purina Dog Chow in the green bag because we weren't at the store where we usually shop. Both dogs have been throwing up and our small dog is lethargic, not eating much and having accidents. They are both hungry, but can't keep this food down. I've suspected the food, but after reading all the complaints here, I am positive it is the food. I won't be feeding this to my dog any longer and am hoping they both start feeling better. I had always used another brand, but the store I was at did not have that brand. I have since stopped using the Purina and switched back to the normal brand. I could not risk the health of 10 foster dogs, and my 3 personal dogs who would eat at the same time and had some of the puppy food. All 3 were throwing up as well. I thought at the time it was a bug, but now I know different.

I have been feeding my now 13-year old lab-husky and 8-year old shepherd-lab mix Purina Dog Chow for their entire lives. When they were young, it was Dog Chow for Puppies. Now that they are both over 7 years, they get the Purina Dog Chow for dogs 7+ years in the silver bag. Back in March 2012, both of my dogs became gravely ill with lethargy and very stinky runny poos. I gave it 2 days to clear up and then into the vet they went. The vet informed me that they had "colitis". Since they got sick at exactly the same time on the exact same day, we figured it was something they ate. $300 later at the vet with antibiotics, etc. and 1 week later, they seemed better.

Now it is June 4th 2012 and both of my dogs are sick again with the exact same thing. $454 today at the vet and now we are sure it is the Purina dog food. I am going home tonight to pull the bag out of the garbage to check the dates, etc. on it and I will be contacting Purina directly regarding their dog food and my vet bills. I just hope to God that my dogs get better from this illness without any long term consequences like the ones I have read here. My 7-year-old cocker spaniel has been acting strange for several weeks and the first symptom I noticed was how bad her breath was and she did not want to eat her food. I feed her Purina dog chow in the green bag. She would skip her morning meal and let it sit until 8 or 9 at night and only eat if I would put table scraps on top of it. Then she would get up during the night and drink a whole bowl of water. The last couple of days, the vomiting and diarrhea have started and she is eating grass. She has no energy and she smells horrible and the gas she has is so bad. She only ate half of her food last night and then I found this blog and couldn't believe it.

I gave her yogurt and chicken last night and then went and bought Canidae moist food today and she gobbled it up like she was starving and has perked up and actually wants to play. I called Purina only to be told they have not had any problems but would send me a coupon for another bag. They did say there was a change in the processing of the food last June but could not really explain to me exactly what that meant. No thanks. I will never feed it to her again. There is something very, very wrong with the food. I have not had any problems with the cat chow but I am changing that as well.

I bought my two Australian Shepherds their normal food. Purina Puppy Chow for my 7 month old girl and Little Bites, also Dog Chow for my 4 year old boy. I mix these two foods together. He became lethargic and vomiting 3 times in a row. We thought he had chewed something. Then my girl started having diarrhea and vomiting. We bought different food when we went on vacation for her while she was at the kennel/vets for the week. She was fine while we were gone. However, our boy would not eat while we were away. We thought he was just having separation anxiety. This has gotten worse. He will not eat his food at all and I just found some skin abrasion/lesion type things on him. She is eating, but having lots of diarrhea.

Please stop allowing these foods to be sold until you figure out what is in them that is hurting our pets. I have read about several recalls, but did not see the ones I bought on the list but felt the need to inform your company of the issue my pets are having that we have linked to their food. This past week, he started acting funny, growling, refusing to come inside, drinking a ton of water, and not eating. Then he lost control of his hind legs, became very lethargic, and was vomiting. We thought we were going to lose him. We took him to the vet. She ran $450 worth of test. All came back perfect. She gave him antibiotics and stuff for vomiting and fever. He immediately bounced back. He came home and ate Purina. Then it started all over again. His water looks like skin tissue and mucus with blood in it. We made chicken breast, and he will eat that, but not his dog food. I will be on the phone tomorrow!

Last summer, as I left for work, I fed my Yellow Lab the last of her usual dog food so I stopped on the way home to pick up a small bag of the green Purina Dog Chow. Within an hour of feeding her, she was on the floor having multiple seizures. We rushed her to the vet and he told us she was probably having epileptic seizures, ran blood work and gave us seizure medicine to use. I noticed after returning home from the vet (after paying $400) that the dog would not touch the food anymore so I threw it out thinking she was being picky and bought her usual food. I continued giving her the seizure medicine and eventually waned her off of it. Everything was great until the next time I ran low on food and not finding her usual food in stock.

I bought another small bag of Purina Dog Chow to get her through a few days. Again, within hours of eating the food, she had another seizure. I was able to control it at home and not realizing at the time it was the food causing the seizures, continued trying to feed it to her. She refused once again so I bought another brand and mixed them together. She reluctantly ate it.

This past Friday evening, I ran to the local Walmart where I always buy my dog food and found once again they were out of stock of the usual food so I grabbed a small green bag of Purina Dog Chow. Within an hour of feeding the dog, she had another seizure at the top of the staircase. It was as bad or worse than the previous ones, and this began me thinking of the related causes. I firmly believe it was the Purina Dog Chow I bought and unfortunately, it took me buying it three times to put two and two together as to the cause of the seizures.

It is now Sunday and I am researching this online looking for others who have possibly had the same experiences with Purina and found this blog. I send out a warning to others--do not feed your dog Purina brand foods. I don't know if it is being shipped to the States from overseas, if it is improperly being stored at the stores, if Purina has issues at their plants or if it is something we have yet to know the cause of. I am taking the remainder of the bag I currently have and sending samples of it to the Purina company with a written complaint and I will let you know what I find.

I figured it didn't really matter what she ate because she is a dog and dogs eat everything. I was wrong. Shortly after I switched her to Purina Dog Chow, she began drinking tons and tons of water. She would vomit all over the place and have diarrhea. She began to lose weight, she developed bad breath and her coat looked terrible. She had developed a rash and also a couple bald spots. She'd be sick and wake up all through the night. Now, silly me, I thought maybe she ate something bad or that she had some type of allergic reaction. Well, this continued off and on for about a month and she finally became very ill and lethargic.

I took her to the vet, who suggested it could be her food. I came home and googled Purina Dog Chow and found lots of people having very similar issues and was absolutely astounded! I had no idea. I took her off of Purina Dog Chow the very next day and switched her over to Kirkland instead. Not only did she starts finishing her bowl of food, but she began to look and act like she was feeling better almost immediately. By the time a month or two had rolled around, she was back to normal. Shiny coat, healthy weight, no bad breath, bald spots growing back, no vomiting, higher energy, happy attitude and no diarrhea! She is now completely recovered and I will never allow her to eat another poisonous Purina product again! Hopefully, there isn't any residual damage to my poor little pup.

When I woke him up, he went outside and did his business (which was normal) and then came in to eat. Within 30-45 minutes of eating he had severe diarrhea followed 30 minutes later with excessive vomiting. I thought it might simply be the change in food (sometimes puppies’ tummies can be sensitive) but it has continued to get worse throughout the day. After reading the complaints here I'm certain that it was the Puppy Chow that made him sick. I have a vet’s appointment tomorrow morning. I hope he'll be okay. We took him to the vet and they gave us a prescription for nausea and gave us some soft canned food to give him for a week. Everything went well for the entire week. So when it was time for him to go back to hard food, we started him again on the Science Diet and had no incidents for a week. Then we started mixing in the Purina Puppy Chow again, and he started throwing up again. Not sure if this was a bad batch of food, or if he is allergic to it. We had chest x-rays taken, and everything was fine, there were no obstructions.
