Simply: Don't advertise free information when the only one giving free information is the searcher. Going through all of those layers and having to give email address only to find you can't get anything unless you pay.

Listen folks, I have been a customer for over 15 years paying monthly subscription price and it was Wonderful. This WAS the only online company left that did a good job. It has recently sold to a scumbag company and the results on any given search are 20% of what they used to be and they have farmed their customer service to the India community which actually made me laugh as these folks don't speak good English and they are just "Yes People", which means nothing but apologies and no real help. Their site was remodeled and 50% of things the customer has are now gone. I check their investigated information at a friends with Lexus Nexus, and it was 80% outdated or incorrect. Don't waste your money and I am guessing the prior company sold to an Indian conglomerate. They are now the worst

    Response from TruthFinder

    Hi Jon,

Thank you for your long-standing loyalty as a customer, and we are sorry to hear that your recent experience has not met the expectations you have come to know from our service. We want to address several of the points you have raised directly.

First, we want to clarify that TruthFinder has not been sold. These claims are inaccurate, and we want to assure you that our commitment to providing a quality service remains unchanged.

Regarding our customer support team, our representatives are not located in India. We take pride in the quality of our Customer Care team and take this feedback seriously.

We also want to address the comparison to LexisNexis. LexisNexis is an identity verification service that uses multiple identifiers including Social Security Number, name, address, and date of birth to precisely match records to a specific individual. TruthFinder searches are conducted by name using publicly available data, which means results may be broader or less precise by comparison. This difference in methodology can account for variations in the information returned between the two services.

As for the information in our reports, TruthFinder is not the source of the data — all information is pulled from publicly available records and third-party sources. Over time, the availability of certain records may change due to updates in public record databases, restrictions imposed by data providers, or individuals exercising their right to suppress their personal information from being displayed on our platform. When a suppression is in place, the information will not appear in our reports, though it is not removed from the original public record source.

We would love the opportunity to address your concerns further and work toward restoring your confidence in our service. Please don't hesitate to contact our Customer Care team at (855) 921-3711, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time (10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time). Holiday hours may vary.

Truthfinder.com is a thief!! They will steal your money, even after you cancel your subscription. I cancelled my subscription and it shows on their website that I am no longer a subscriber. BUT they still charge my card. The only way I was able to stop them was by having my card company put a block on all requests from them. There are other more reputable companies.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for sharing your review. We understand how unexpected charges can be frustrating, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify what occurred.

When enrolling in TruthFinder, members are guided through a registration process where all billing details—including automatic renewal terms—are clearly disclosed before payment is submitted, and users must agree to those terms to complete registration. Memberships can be canceled at any time through the online account, by phone, or via live chat.

After reviewing our records, we found that an account was originally created in September 2024 and canceled in October 2024. A separate membership was later reactivated in October 2025, and the service was actively used in December 2025. There was no cancellation on file for that membership prior to the online cancellation completed on January 16, 2026.

We also did not receive any direct contact from you before the charge in question, which would have allowed us to review and address the concern sooner.

If you have any remaining questions or would like further assistance, our Member Care team is available at 855-921-3711, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. PT (10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. ET; holiday hours may vary).

    Dear Melody,

Thank you for your feedback and for bringing this to our attention. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations and understand how frustrating it can be when information you anticipated isn’t immediately apparent.

We did review the report associated with your search and can confirm that it does include at least five arrest records. In many cases, arrest and criminal record details appear after the address history section, so we recommend revisiting the report and ensuring you click through the full report to view all available sections.

TruthFinder is continuously working to improve its service, and we appreciate insights from customers like you. We collaborate with our data providers to help ensure reports are as accurate and complete as possible. However, as outlined in our Terms of Use, public records and commercially available data may contain errors or omissions. Source data can sometimes be reported or entered inaccurately, processed incorrectly, or be incomplete. TruthFinder is not the original source of this data, nor does it represent a comprehensive compilation of all available records. For this reason, any information should be independently verified before being relied upon.

If you’d like help navigating the report or locating specific sections, our Customer Support team would be happy to guide you step by step. You can reach us at 855-921-3711, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time (10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time). (Holiday hours may vary.)

    Hi Jackie,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the information you found didn’t meet your expectations — we understand how frustrating that can be.

Due to the nature of public record information, some data may be incomplete, outdated, or reported inaccurately at the source. We work continuously with our data providers to improve accuracy, but occasional gaps or errors can occur, especially when multiple individuals share similar identifying details. Because of these limitations, we always recommend independently verifying any important information and using our reports as a starting point for further research.

To help refine results, you can use the “Refine My Search” option after performing a search. Adding additional identifying details can help narrow results and isolate the correct individual.

We also attempted to locate an account under the information available in this review but were unable to find one. If you can provide additional details — such as the email address or phone number associated with the account — we would be happy to look into this further and assist you directly.

    Hi Annie,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that many details in your report did not match your expectations. We understand how frustrating it can be when information appears incomplete or inaccurate.

We work closely with our data providers to make our reports as accurate and comprehensive as possible. However, due to the nature of public records and commercially available data, the information can sometimes be incomplete, outdated, or incorrectly reported at the source. In some cases, shared names or similar identifying details can also lead to mismatched results. For this reason, we encourage users to treat our reports as a starting point and independently verify any important information.

    Hi Joan,

We’re sorry to hear about your experience, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. We’re sorry to hear that the report did not contain all of the details you were hoping to find. While we strive to keep our reports as current and comprehensive as possible, there are times when data may be limited, incomplete, or not fully accurate due to the nature of public records and the sources we rely on.

The information in our reports comes directly from government and commercially available databases. Because of this, some records may be reported inaccurately, processed incorrectly, or may not be available at all. Hi,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the information you accessed did not meet your expectations. We work hard to provide accurate and timely data, but because we rely on public records and other commercially available sources, there can be limitations. In some cases, information may not be fully up to date, or certain details may be missing depending on how often the original sources report and update their data.

The TruthFinder staff was very prompt in responding to the concerns that I had expressed in my previous review about their refund policies, and a fair resolution was reached. As a result I would have no hesitation in recommending this company's service to others.

    Original Review: Sept. 29, 2025

The unfortunate "truth" that I have uncovered about TruthFinder is that they have an inflexible and misleading refund policy. If you sign up for a monthly subscription, you have only 30 days to cancel from the subscription starting date to get a refund for any subsequent months. I just realized today that I was being charged for not only my first month (July 2), as well as monthly charges on August 4, September 2, but also for today, September 29 (for October!?). I cancelled today and expected at least a refund for this latest charge, but was told that "this was not company policy" and that no refund would be given! How can such a policy be justified?! I cannot even get a refund for the month ahead--which has been cancelled??? I had a subscription for 3 months but must pay for four??? Consumer beware!

Thank you for your review! Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we sincerely apologize if the charges caught you by surprise. This is not the experience we aim to provide for our members.

During the registration process, our website directs users to a clear and detailed page where they can explore and select a membership plan. All important information, such as billing details and automatic renewal policies, is presented in full compliance with applicable laws. Additionally, we require users to confirm their understanding of these terms before completing their payment.

As outlined in our Terms of Use, unless canceled, subscriptions automatically renew every 30 days until a cancellation is processed. That said, as a one-time courtesy, we reversed the most recent pending charge so you will not be billed for the upcoming month.

    Hi,

We are truly sorry to hear about your experience and understand how distressing this situation must be. We work hard to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information we provide, but we cannot guarantee it will be 100% accurate or complete. For example, shared names or similar identifiers can sometimes lead to data mismatches. We encourage you to use the provided information as a foundation for further research.

I’ve been with Truthfinder for a while and I’m not exactly impressed. I think things have gone downhill with information being wildly inaccurate. The new platform makes everything worse too, unfortunately. I know the company is going to reply that they’re only gathering public information, but dates are wrong, relatives are wrong, and the worst is the inaccurate criminal section. I know someone with both misdemeanors and a federal crime but the more egregious federal crime is not listed on the website, as well as, more than one bankruptcy, and eviction, etc. when just last year it was, so something‘s up with this company and the way it gathers information.

The timeline it offers is a hot mess too. I also don’t like how with the new updated platform you can’t send in that information if it’s inaccurate anymore. Lastly, it’s way too expensive!! I don’t think I’ll be renewing my subscription and will start looking elsewhere. I need to have accurate information.

    Dear Cee Cee,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your frustrations with the accuracy of certain details and with the recent platform updates, as this isn’t the experience we want our members to have.

We understand how important it is to access reliable information. TruthFinder compiles data from a wide variety of public record sources, and while we strive to keep information as accurate and up to date as possible, occasional discrepancies may occur due to reporting timelines and data source limitations. Please also be advised that TruthFinder is a public records search service. We prohibit the use of the website for any non-personal purpose that involves a business transaction, including but not limited to employment screening, tenant screening, or credit checks.

Your concerns about the new platform design and the ability to submit corrections are also valuable, and we’ll be sure to share this feedback with our product team. I hope shuts this scam company down. I'm severely disabled and have been trying to stop them for the last year. Nobody should be taken advantage of like this! Hi Renee,

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we truly understand how upsetting unexpected charges can be, especially when you believed your subscription had already been canceled. Please know this is not the type of experience we want for our members.

When you enrolled in our services, you signed up for two separate subscriptions under the same account: one for Unlimited PDF and Data Monitoring Access, which was canceled earlier, and another for Unlimited Person Reports, which remained active until your recent call. We allow customers to cancel individual subscriptions depending on their needs, which is why one continued billing after the other had ended.

It’s also important to note that updating or changing your credit card number does not always stop approved recurring charges, as many banks continue to process authorized renewals. Prior to your recent call on August 19, we did not receive any additional communication regarding canceling the remaining subscription.

During your call, our representative processed a refund of your most recent charge in accordance with our refund policy. Please allow 3–5 business days, depending on your financial institution, for the refund to reflect in your account. As of that call, all subscriptions have been canceled, and no further charges will occur.

If you’d like to review your account in more detail or have additional questions, our Customer Care team is available at 855-921-3711, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. PT (10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. ET).

My guess is I only used their service once and immediately cancelled. I couldn't even login to unsubscribe myself. I had to go to the customer service staff via an online chat. If I don't have an account with you, why am I being charged? If I have an account, why couldn't I login?

    Hi Alex,

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, and we understand how unexpected charges can be frustrating. We want to assure you that this is not the experience we strive to provide for our members.

When you enroll in any of our services, our website guides you through a registration page where you can review various subscription options and select the one that best fits your needs. In accordance with applicable laws, all billing details, including automatic renewal terms, are clearly disclosed before payment is submitted. Users are also required to agree to these terms before completing registration.

Our records confirm that your account was registered under the email you provided when you called in to cancel. You did not have two separate accounts but rather two active subscriptions. One was for Unlimited PDF and Data Monitoring Access, which you canceled earlier, and the other was for Unlimited Person Reports, which remained active until recently. We allow customers to manage or cancel individual subscriptions depending on their needs, which is why one continued after the other had been canceled.

Regarding login issues, if you were unable to access your account, it may have been due to an incorrect password. We do offer a password reset option directly on our website to help members regain access to their accounts.

As of now, both of your subscriptions have been canceled, and there will be no further charges moving forward. If you’d like additional assistance or have any further questions, please reach out to our Customer Care team at 855-921-3711, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. PT (10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. ET).

Updated on 09/17/2025: This is not my first review of TruthFinder, just an update to my other reviews.. I have just decided to cancel my subscription (?) to the TruthFinder website since I became very dissatisfied with it.. First the new & so called improved web design is horrific and I say that as a retired IT person, but still a geek at heart.. Second as I & several others have stated prior their information is outdated on individuals & when you try to get them to update that info they get all touchy & feel they know better..

In August my former husband passed away & I tried to get TruthFinder to update that info to their profile on him again, they got all touchy even though I had also sent them the funeral parlors obituary as proof to validate it was factual info.. I am still very sensitive about how my former husband is portrayed even though it's been many, many years but he still deserves respect.. I have/had many people's profiles on my TruthFinder page and I know for a fact that they are deceased but somehow TruthFinder finds that hard to believe and still shows them alive and well.. Not to mention many of the profiles contain inaccurate information on their former employers when I had worked with many of them so that I know for sure..

At this point I decided I would no longer stay with them since the $28.00+ a month fee I was paying was a waste of money on my part since viewing their website had become an obstacle course, so I cancelled my subscription, obviously true to form they made me an offer which I guess they thought I couldn't refuse, but I did.. Cancel is cancel.. I have no desire to hear back from TruthFinder on this review..

Original Review: Most of the info they give you is old & when you 'remind' them of that you get nowhere.. Recently the site was down for several days & then when it came back up it had a new look to it. Unfortunately this new look must have been done by a newbie programmer because there is no way to log off the site for desktops. Maybe for handheld devices but not there for desktops so you can't log off which is not a secure thing for me.. Very disappointed in this site now..

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear you’ve been disappointed with your recent experience.

Truthfinder seemed to be who I would use for my work projects on and off. As of recently, I will no longer be using them. I signed up for a trial in May 2025. They debited my account in July 2025. When I saw the charge pending, I logged in and cancelled as I realized I had not used it for any work projects since May. The charge went through anyway the next day, so I contacted them for a refund.

The office was closed and it was a Friday, so I had to wait until Monday. I called back Monday and the rep I spoke with told me it does not matter that I cancelled and the charge was pending, it will still go through and that they can not offer me a refund. I asked to speak with a sup and was told they would need to call me back. Caesar the sup called me two days later and informed me that they had refunded my account the prior year in 2024 and that they are not able to give me another one. I then contacted the BBB and TruthFinder just keeps saying the story above I just stated and is giving me no resolve.

We’re sorry to hear that our services fell short of your expectations. Your feedback is important to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns.

TruthFinder provides a comprehensive public record search service that requires significant financial resources to develop, maintain, and regularly update. While some of the data may be publicly available, our platform organizes it in a user-friendly, searchable format—allowing members to run unlimited person and address reports from one centralized location.

Additionally, our service includes access to public records such as criminal histories, possible relatives, property details, and more—far beyond what can typically be found through social media sites like Facebook.

That said, we understand our service isn’t the right fit for everyone. We’ve confirmed your account has been successfully canceled, and as a courtesy, we’ve issued a full refund of your recent charge. I am writing this review because Truthfinder hijacked/stole my data I entered into InstantCheckmate for a background check on myself. InstantCheckmate seemed like another legitimate site I had used before. It showed progress, asked questions and appeared to be including a detailed background check. Towards the end of the process I received a popup in my right lower screen that my background check was almost ready and to click here to get my report, of which I did.

I then gave a screen saying it was gather all of my information and I would soon be able to see my report, I am positive it stated I would also be able to receive an emailed report. A payment screen came up and I paid the first requested amount and 2 other requested payments totalling $36.14! Paying those additional fees were the only way I would get to see the report. Once paid I was able to open a report that was extremely outdated, no current information and only 1/4 of the information on there belonged to me! This was not in line with what I saw coming from InstantCheckmate so I was confused. I think noticed the name and did a search on them both. They both belong to an umbrella company and they were both sued and fined for $5.8 million for misleading consumers/fraud!

When I called them today, as this started in the evening of the 6/17/25 InstantCheckmate said they couldn't find anything in my name? REALLY ALL OF MY DATA WAS ENTERED ON THEIR PAGE! I then called Truthfinder and was livid that they literally stole my information from another site and gave my a kindergartner level report. They did cancel the so called subscriptions and verbally told me they would refund all my money but all I got was an email showing the cancellations! I guess I will have to get an attorney to get my money back! MESSAGE TO EVERYONE: DO NOT USE EITHER OF THESE COMPANIES, THEY ARE FRAUDS!

    Dear Michelle,

Thank you for your follow-up. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify.

Our records show you created an account and purchased a report through TruthFinder, not Instant Checkmate, on June 17, 2025.

While both Instant Checkmate and TruthFinder are part of the PeopleConnect family of brands, each entity operates independently with its own website, user interface, sign-up process, and clearly marked branding. The TruthFinder logo appears throughout the user experience, including search, billing, and report viewing. Nor do we have functionality on our people search platforms that would automatically create and transfer account information from one website to another.

Regarding the report itself, we’re sorry to hear it did not meet your expectations. We compile the information in our reports from available public records provided by federal, state and local government agencies and other reputable third-party public record data providers. TruthFinder (nor Instant Checkmate) is not the original source of the public record information that is compiled in our reports. As disclosed in our Terms of Use, occasional inaccuracies may occur due to the nature and limitations in public data sources or instances where individuals may share similar identifying details. To help narrow results and improve relevance, users can utilize the “Refine My Search” option after an initial search to add more specific information—this may improve the amount of detailed information provided in the report.

Lastly, regarding the refund confirmation emails, we have re-sent these to the email address associated with your TruthFinder account. If they are not visible in your main inbox, we suggest checking your spam or junk folders, as automated messages can sometimes be filtered there.

Your feedback is important, and we remain committed to transparency and continuous improvement. Hello Aaron,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry for any confusion or frustration you experienced, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify a few things.

To view a report with TruthFinder, customers simply need to log in, run a search if needed, and select “View Report.” While we do offer a Verified Report Owner feature, it is completely optional and not required to access your report. This feature is designed to help users track the accuracy of their background report over time, especially if key personal details—like addresses, phone numbers, or email accounts—have changed.

After reviewing your account, we can confirm that your subscription was canceled successfully through our website, and a full refund has been issued to the original payment method used during sign-up.

As a courtesy, we’ve also provided a downloadable PDF copy of the report you requested in the email we sent, so you can review the information without needing to log back in.

TruthFinder compiles public data from many sources, but some records can become outdated depending on how frequently those sources update their databases. We’re always working to improve the accuracy and timeliness of the information we provide.

If there’s anything else we can do to help, please don’t hesitate to contact our support team at 855-921-3711 or by emailing help@truthfinder.com. Our team is available Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PT (10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET). (Holiday hours may vary.)
