Truthfinder seemed to be who I would use for my work projects on and off. As of recently, I will no longer be using them. I signed up for a trial in May 2025. They debited my account in July 2025. When I saw the charge pending, I logged in and cancelled as I realized I had not used it for any work projects since May. The charge went through anyway the next day, so I contacted them for a refund.
The office was closed and it was a Friday, so I had to wait until Monday. I called back Monday and the rep I spoke with told me it does not matter that I cancelled and the charge was pending, it will still go through and that they can not offer me a refund. I asked to speak with a sup and was told they would need to call me back. Caesar the sup called me two days later and informed me that they had refunded my account the prior year in 2024 and that they are not able to give me another one. I then contacted the BBB and TruthFinder just keeps saying the story above I just stated and is giving me no resolve.

This website is a scam! You can find all the information they provide for you for free on a different platform for no charge! Do not use this platform, it’s a waste of money and time, you can use Facebook and find the same information.

They mislead and sneakily keep your information to charge you again. No permission was granted or request to do so. When you ask for a refund they stonewall you, even if it’s the same day as the new charge, and you tell them you want it refunded. They do not. We are Protected against this.

When enrolling in our service, customers are directed to a registration page where multiple membership options are presented. In accordance with applicable laws, all billing details—including the automatic renewal policy—are clearly disclosed before payment is submitted. Users are required to agree to these terms at least twice during the sign-up process, and a welcome email is sent immediately after registration, which includes billing terms and confirms the subscription is recurring.
As explained by our previous support agents, we are unable to issue an additional refund at this time due to a refund that was already granted in January, in accordance with our company’s refund policy.
That said, members can cancel anytime by logging into their account, calling us at 855-921-3711, or emailing help@truthfinder.com. Stay away from this company! They take your payment quick enough, but when you call to cancel ... you are challenged. Because the one month subscription was about to run out, I called to cancel before I was charged for a second month. I wanted to check the background of a contractor who was in and out of our home. We had already hire him, but when his behavior became strange, we wanted to check on him. I did not use use Truthfinder to determine whether or not to hire him. So, I DID NOT violate any of their policies. When I called to cancel, I was asked why I was cancelling. I told them that I no longer needed their services and told them why. I was quickly told that I had violated their policy and the matter had to be investigated. Then, I was told that the charges would continue until their investigation was complete. What! Scam!

The information wasn't anything that I couldn't just look up for myself for free and if you want more information then that you have to pay more. Truthfinder is a black hole for money and just not worth it. It's a money black hole.

This site started out fairly well but it stated unlimited which is a lie --At first my wife was doing a reunion for her 60th reunion and for over a week it worked pretty well - she paid for a month but soon they said the app has a built in cut off for overuse and they would take 72 hours to reinstate her account. They did and for a few days it was fine again then a few days ago (and we still have two weeks paid for) the app no longer gave her phone number s age of person addresses or email which at first she got all of that --- Now we get nothing for the 2 weeks left I guess because the site is useless without any info. Beware. You get very little for your money.

I am writing this review because Truthfinder hijacked/stole my data I entered into InstantCheckmate for a background check on myself. InstantCheckmate seemed like another legitimate site I had used before. It showed progress, asked questions and appeared to be including a detailed background check. Towards the end of the process I received a popup in my right lower screen that my background check was almost ready and to click here to get my report, of which I did.
I then gave a screen saying it was gather all of my information and I would soon be able to see my report, I am positive it stated I would also be able to receive an emailed report. A payment screen came up and I paid the first requested amount and 2 other requested payments totalling $36.14! Paying those additional fees were the only way I would get to see the report. Once paid I was able to open a report that was extremely outdated, no current information and only 1/4 of the information on there belonged to me! This was not in line with what I saw coming from InstantCheckmate so I was confused. I think noticed the name and did a search on them both. They both belong to an umbrella company and they were both sued and fined for $5.8 million for misleading consumers/fraud!
When I called them today, as this started in the evening of the 6/17/25 InstantCheckmate said they couldn't find anything in my name? REALLY ALL OF MY DATA WAS ENTERED ON THEIR PAGE! I then called Truthfinder and was livid that they literally stole my information from another site and gave my a kindergartner level report. They did cancel the so called subscriptions and verbally told me they would refund all my money but all I got was an email showing the cancellations! I guess I will have to get an attorney to get my money back! MESSAGE TO EVERYONE: DO NOT USE EITHER OF THESE COMPANIES, THEY ARE FRAUDS!

I had to pay almost $30 to view my report then was required to verify my identity to view my own report. All of the verification methods were old numbers/emails that I no longer have. This is a complete scam.

Good luck trying to cancel - when you sign up and start researching, it seems that you're going to get a decent amount of info. No complaints there. As you go deeper, it's a bit of a "bait and switch" and each 'extra' is another (separate) monthly subscription. I opted for it, so - my bad. I no longer needed the service and cancelled it, but the charges keep coming. When I disputed the charges with my credit card company, Truthfinder locked my account. Luckily I'd taken a screenshot so I have proof. I'm bracing myself to yet another slew of charges this month.

The old bait and switch! During the Search portion of the setup they make promises of hidden gems of importance, then after you pay nothing more than you can get off a free credit report. Such a scam. I have ask for a refund so we will see.

Truthfinder charged me for one subscription twice on the same day. After 5 emails they finally issued refunds, but now they continue to charge me for a subscription even after they acknowledge that I canceled the subscription. I have made one phone call and several emails have been sent back and forth and still no solution because they claim they can't find my account, but they have no problem finding it when they want to charge me for a cancelled subscription.

Agent was very helpful and took care of my cancelation right away. I did not realize the cost and did not mean to enroll so she got me canceled and I wanted to cancel it and get refunded and she advised I would get my refund in 3-5 business days. I'm a senior and not able to understand the site and navigate so not helpful for me.

Provided nothing useful for what I was searching. My wife was married 3 times before me and I was trying to get info on a previous divorce. There was nothing on her prior marriages or divorces. Not one thing. That advertising was the only reason I went through the process. So I gave 2 stars instead of only 1. Customer service was fantastic though.

They are scammers. I paid for one month and next month I'm billed again. Trying to get into my account: password doesn't work and numerous attempts to receive a link to reset password didn't work. The report was awful. Couldn't understand many things and compare to other companies' report was absolutely not usable.

It intentionally wastes your time pretending to be fetching data, only so that you have invested so much time in waiting, that you are more prone to pay for the data at the end. No data will be provided at the end without buying a subscription. This is unethical business practise, so I would never trust them my credit card info.

Claims to be free but when you enter the information you have to pay for at least a month before you can get the information! I guess the Ad I saw was just click bait to get you to spend your time filling out the info. And then charging you.

Is this a joke? I can’t imagine that people would give this 5 stars. I searched myself and several family members, there isn’t one things on any of these reports” that I would validate as “facts” let alone public record. Several hours later and $40 out and I have discovered that my great grandmother is “still alive“. My neighbor “owns my house” and I’m “a fugitive." Give me a break. Don’t waste your money or time.

I did a deep search for myself and others on Truth Finder. I was completely shocked to find that each person and myself appeared on the government watch list. This is completely false. Therefore I cannot endorse this site.

Truthfinder is a scam. I paid for one review and the company charged me monthly for over a year. I never agreed to that…I am disputing with my credit card company. They should be fined and put out of business. H **

In our day and age, I totally get keeping information as "secure" as possible. However, this site definitely is a disappointment. If you are going to charge for the information you have, SAY IT UPFRONT! Don't completely waste 10 minutes of my life. I will never get back with all this incredible information you promise to deliver only to tell me you won't provide it unless I pay up. Never using this site again.

I am keeping this account open to verify it's still around 50-60 incorrect. Can't be in 2 states, 2 jobs, 2 addresses, 2 names at same time. Arbitration clause is smart, but there's a way to clean up this falsehood. Not my public records, I'm not magical, nor have I ever been charged and jailed in state prison. Sadly I didn't get that degree either. A common name shouldn't allow a company to make false allegations as though they were truth. Your company does no verification of records but publishes as factual. There will be a civil recourse, some way. Good day.

It would be nice to ask about memberships before you spend 10 minutes waiting on a report you can’t even see, and also you guys use the word “embarrassing” a lot, I’m no professional, but that doesn’t seem professional. Also you better unlink my email to this, how come you can ask for personal info first but not what decides if you can view the report or not. I was interested in one person not their whole bloodline. I don’t need that.

VERY DECEPTIVE AND FRAUDULENT COMPANY!! They have you bank information and even when you believe you have canceled the account and they send a confirmation of the cancel, they do not tell you you did not cancel some other service you did not know you signed up for.

The email that was sent to me does not confirm that my subscription was canceled. I thought that was the reason it was sent to me. I canceled it over the phone yesterday 4/15/24. The service is great. I was able investigate someone I was concerned with & by looking into their background. I was able to put it all to rest. Olga

Literally make you wait FOREVER and after like 10 minutes of sitting there say the only option you have is to pay 30 a month. Entrapment. Also, they advertise with "don't waste your money" bull. It is a fraud.

Attempted to cancel numerous times, now they are double charging. Beware. Do not give them any account information. Avoid at all costs!! When called assured it was not double charged. Wrong! May have to cancel card to get them to stop charging.

Update to review. I was upset when I wrote the review when I got an unexpected charge for a subscription that I hadn't signed up for I thought I was only paying for a month long use. The company resolved the issue right away and did issue a refund. I was happy with the original report I received. I have changed it to a 4 star rating because I did find some info not up to date but this may not be the fault of Truthfinder but whoever reports the information to them.

Don't waste your time or money. Most of the information does not appear to up to date. I paid for a one time visit only and the next month I was surprised with a charge for a subscription. They are difficult to get a hold of to get a refund. I do not recommend using them.

Based on my limited experience there is no quality control or feedback to correct bad or false information. I will attempt to contact the company, Truthfinder but these days this is a long shot to reach a customer service rep who actually has any authority. There could be a on site method to correct bad data and I realize this might be an expensive improvement. I know I am not the first to have problems with their bad data. Maybe Consumer Affairs could get more involved.
I will be contacting Truthfinder not about my personal info but about an individual who has not lived at my home for fifteen years. With an FBI, a FEMA, terrorism, and who know what threats are out there it is amazing that one could have an incorrect address for fifteen years, and then no mechanism to correct it. My job if I choose to accept it is to convince the right people that we have a problem. With information becoming more and more automated and monetized this situation is going to get worse.
