    I don’t enjoy moving. Northern took the stress of moving out of the equation all together. The customer service is exceptional and the salesman was transparent with the cost of the move, however, I didn’t utilize the free storage for 30 days, but the facility is nice. I’ve already recommended Northern!

    My name is, Joan and I used this mover with a successful back-story. These people kick butt! I have never seen such a smooth process of packing up a house. I got the full service package, and boy, it was just that! They cleaned out my shelving, and boxed everything with care. I give this mover a solid 9 out of 10. They were that good.

    I hired Northern Moving Systems and was never told my move would be subcontracted out to a shady moving company that steals from customers, damages their items, and then tries to intimidate them when they file a claim by sending thugs to their home at night. Upon receiving my items (later than the window given), I noticed a number of things damaged and my (expensive) floor mirror was completely missing. I contacted Northern Moving Systems and they told me I'd have to file a claim with the subcontractor, ONCE UPON A MOVE LLC. I sent this subcontractor more than sufficient photographic evidence of the damaged and missing items and they gaslight me, dragged their feet, and refuse to explain how to file a claim.

    It had been 10 days since delivery and I had already thrown away damaged items and repaired the items that could be salvaged. At no point did ONCE UPON A MOVE mention an in-person inspection would be needed of my items. Instead, they sent men to my home at night with no warning. Their "guys" sent me photos of my home telling me they were outside and wanted to assess the damage. This was a complete intimidation tactic in retaliation for filing the claim. I contacted Northern about it and told them I expected them to deal directly with its subcontractors and not put its customers in harm's way or place the burden on us to deal with fraudulent businesses that we never vetted, verified or even hired.

    Northern never responded and I am out hundreds of dollars more than I had budgeted. Beware hiring them. They quote you a low price and then their subcontractors mark it up with all kinds of add on fees (boxing, steps to unit, etc.). On top of that, they damage and steal/lose items. I would have been better off paying more upfront for a reputable moving company.

We have never attempted to dissuade you from filing an insurance claim; in fact, you have already submitted your claim with us and are simply awaiting reimbursement. You will receive your reimbursement once your claim has been processed. Our local agent, who handled your services, is reputable and has successfully assisted us on numerous occasions. Since you filed your claim, you have not cooperated or communicated with us. We have left messages that you have not returned, and you have not responded to our emails. Your review contains some false statements, which may explain your reluctance to engage in communication. Once again, we apologize for the misplacement of your mirror and assure you that we are actively searching for it. It is never our intention for any client to feel dissatisfied. We encourage you to reach out to us so that we can work towards a satisfactory resolution. Please contact us so that we can address this matter.     I hired this company and would hire them again without haste. They provided me with a good price and the service was uneventful and saved me a lot of trouble. I feel like my delivery could have arrived a little bit quicker but the company did an outstanding job and I'm not complaining about anything. The men they sent out were all cordial and they were so nice. They worked their butts off and we bought them lunch. This company has my recommendation.

    The movers did a great job, but I wish communication was slightly faster before the pickup. Once they arrived, though, everything went smoothly. They packed my fragile items carefully and handled all furniture with care. The storage service was excellent, clean, and secure, and I appreciated the free first month. Delivery was on schedule, and nothing was damaged. Despite the minor delay in responses, I’d still recommend Northern Moving Systems because the actual moving service was top-notch.

    I received my moving quote over the phone. I was not informed that Northern was going to subcontract this work out. The work was contracted out to another mover that did really poor work and charged more than quoted. I'd recommend calling someone local who can come out and do your inventory in person. Then you can have a better idea of how the move will go.

    Buyer Beware! Northern Moving Systems increased our moving cost by nearly $10,000 on pickup day — even though our items were exactly the same as what we showed during the virtual walkthrough. Their representative had specifically said she only needed to see the large items, then later charged us for the smaller ones she chose not to include. We made multiple calls and requested the video recording to prove what was said but received no response. This felt like a bait-and-switch — I cannot in good faith recommend this company.

    Scammers is the only word for these people. We were quoted 6k for our move from California to Oregon. They made us believe they are a national company, but the day of the move, a subcontractor showed up 3 hours late. We had an elevator reserved because we live on the 28th floor high high-rise. After bringing all of our belonging downstairs, they refused to load the truck until we signed a new contract for 14k saying that the space in truck was filled up, when Northern had our detailed info after doing a video walk-through with Catherine. We were coerced by Shelly to sign saying she will reimburse us later and we will figure something out.

    When our things arrived in Oregon, there was over $1000 in damage. Again the workers didn’t speak any English and one of them told me they were getting paid Pennies to do this job. Obviously undocumented and being taken advantage of, there was only two of them to unload the truck. After we submitted our complaint, Northern sent it out to a “resolution” company. This resolution company has no license, no website, and could not provide any credentials we had asked for. They are obviously a part of Northern and were threatening us to take down our reviews. He even told me that my 1-star review would get flooding with good reviews and get lost. I am shocked at how illegal their practices are. This is why they don’t have Yelp, Google, or Facebook reviews. Almost all the good reviews are fake.

    We have been talking to lawyers who say we have a strong case to get everything back and pain and suffering. We have everything documented. They breached their contract, lied and used illegal business practices of coercion and scare tactics. Worst of all they take advantage of undocumented immigrants and literally pay them $5/hour to do the insane labor work.

We employ agents just like all other national moving companies such as Allied, Mayflower and United. We operate no differently than the largest moving companies in the United States. The reason that your cost increased, is due to the fact that you added a lot of additional items during the pickup process for shipment. It displeases us to learn that some of your items arrived damaged. We have provided you with a method in order to file an insurance claim. We are sure that you will find that process to be satisfactory. It is upsetting to us to hear that you think that our reviews are fake. We have a lot of good reviews, and we have a few that are negative. We attempted to outsource your complaint for professional investigation, but you refused to cooperate. Instead, you expressed dissatisfaction with that process and labeled the investigator as a fraud. We realize that a circumstance involving additional inventory added that during the pickup process increased your invoice. That is the reason that you have said the things that you said in your review. We understand that you're angry. No one likes to pay more. We charged you correctly according to the items that you shipped during the pickup process. We would still like to work with you in order to attempt to resolve this dispute.     We had a wonderful experience with the packing and loading of our items in Texas. The movers were very professional and efficient. Our experience on the other end in Michigan was not so great. Two movers showed up with our items. I knew that would be a problem with the amount of items we had. After they had been here for 6 hours one of the movers left. The other one assembled our main bedroom bed and dining room table. The rest of the items were in place, but not assembled. The remaining guy left after 3 hours leaving all the furniture in the basement (most of the moved furniture) unassembled with the padding still on. This left a lot of the work that we had contracted up to us to complete.

    This company sells you on the fact that they are a direct mover but in fact they are just another broker scamming people. No wonder they only have less than 100 reviews on here, my price doubled when the crew showed up and of course, I'm still in limbo and have not recieved my shipment yet.     This review appears to be submitted under a fictitious client's name. We do not have any record of this client in our system. If there was an increase in their price during the pickup process, it is likely due to the shipment of additional inventory that was not disclosed to us during the estimation phase. When we conduct our estimates through virtual means, it is the client's obligation to present all items they intend for us to transport. We provide them with an estimate that includes a detailed inventory list and request confirmation of its accuracy. This request is communicated both verbally and through an automated email accompanying the estimate. Furthermore, it is explicitly stated in our contract, just above the area where the customer electronically signs, that they are accountable for the precision of their inventory list. We pride ourselves on being a reputable moving company; however, the quality of our estimates is contingent upon the information provided by our clients. If they fail to disclose all items intended for shipment on the day of pickup, they face a decision. They may either ship the inventory they initially provided for the quoted price or opt to ship the entirety of the goods present on-site for an adjusted cost. Occasionally, clients choose to ship all their inventory only to later file disputes or reviews. This issue is not unique to us; it occurs nationwide with every major moving company. Our delivery time frames are clearly outlined in our contracts and align with those of other national moving companies. These time frames are regulated and enforced by the Department of Transportation. We strictly comply with these delivery time frames as they are mandated by DOT regulations. We cannot ascertain whether this is a legitimate client or not. We are inclined to believe it is not, as we currently have no late deliveries recorded. We urge the public to disregard this review, as we suspect it is fabricated. It may either be a fabrication or a reaction stemming from dissatisfaction over a justified cost increase, aimed at damaging our reputable company name. Thank you.

    We recently moved to a bigger house, and Northern Moving Systems handled everything perfectly. They were patient, friendly, and even helped pack some last-minute items. The movers were careful with our kids’ furniture and toys, and nothing was damaged. The free storage service was a bonus, as we needed time to organize our new home. Delivery was prompt, and everything arrived in perfect condition. Moving with a family can be hectic, but they made it so much easier for us.

    Updated on 08/30/2025: I submitted a Review on Northern Movers earlier in August 2025. Apparently, they were not Happy with my review (Titled Do Not Use).
    The original 3rd Party (David ** Special Investigator **) that I dealt with originally to resolve my issue was contacted by the Company (Jordan) again on Aug 8th.

    Jordan wanted me to remove my original Review. In turn, they would send me $1000.00 dollars. Appears this is how they keep their good ratings. Pay customers off who complain. I thought about it. But after looking at several other negative reviews, I decided not to take the Money. I’m not for Sale. Wonder how many other Customers took the Money and made Northern Movers look better than they really are 🤔

    Original Review: Morning, I am writing today to express my displeasure with your moving company and whoever you subcontracted my move out to. During the negotiations I guessed what was in storage as I was in Texas during the initial calls and hadn't been to my storage units since September, 2024. I informed them (Josh or Jordan) I'd get back to them when I returned to Michigan in mid-April for a more accurate inventory. I returned to Michigan on April 11 and got to work on rearranging my storage units and prepping for a most efficient move.

    After a few days and obtaining a better inventory including several big items, I left several messages with Jordon. I never heard back from him or anyone else in a timely manner. I received a text from a Will Ables Tuesday, April 22 while at a Hockey game - evening after hours at 19:14 concerning the move. This seemed last minute and certainly outside of normal business Hours. Totally unacceptable!!

    Will later sent and email at 11:00 PM - again, outside of business hours letting me to know it was too late to add items because of DOT. This appears to be standard operating procedure to gouge more money out of customers. I was allotted 1370 cubic feet on the truck. I was going to be over and would therefore, cost more money. I informed Jordan of this. He said his movers can pack really tight and I would be surprised. My household goods were to be picked up on Friday April 25th.

    I received a call from Dispatch (Lorena) on Thursday at 15:57 stating pickup date was changed to backup date Saturday April 26th. I asked for a refund because I could not accommodate a backup date. The driver called me (EJ) and said he can make Friday happen. He would obtain another truck. He stated his truck was in the shop, which at this point sound suspicious. EJ stated that and his crew would be coming from Nashville (8 Hours away). I mentioned I'd most likely see him around 16:00. He replied no, he would be there before that.

    I texted the driver several times throughout the day on his status. He never came clean on his location. Sent me a pic of the traffic he was in. Later mentioned he was on I-24 which is South of Indiana. I mentioned he's still at least 6 hours out. Looking like 21:30-22:00 arrival. That's way outside of normal hours. I was not happy. Agreed to meet him that late though. My girlfriend and I arrived at the storage units about 21:15. I contacted the driver again to see where he was. He stated it would be 01:30-02:00 in the AM Saturday morning. Can I still meet them. I said no, I'll see you at 08:00am. He wanted to meet sooner than that, so I said 06:00 if not earlier. He said they would arrive and wait outside the storage units for me.

    We arrived back at the storage units approximately at 05:30. No moving truck outside the fence. I called them and he stated they were an hour and ten minutes away. They had stopped at a rest area. I think they finally arrived 07:35. I noticed immediately, the moving truck did not have a lift gate, per contract, as I had a very large safe that weighed about 1200 pounds. One of the main reasons I agreed to pay for a moving company is that I honestly didn't want to move that beast myself.

    The movers then started inventory and packing up the truck. I asked if they thought they could get the additional items on the truck since the safe wouldn't be there and they said no problem. I didn't realize I was going over the 1370 cubic foot limit. He contacted his boss (Jordan) who in turn called me about the change. I informed Jordan about the incorrect truck to begin with and I'm not paying the additional $2700.00 he was trying to get out of me. Pretty shady the driver couldn't let me know we were going to be over when I was standing right there. Not only standing there, helping to stage a few things and even grabbed them lunch.

    We were talking about an assortment of topics. I guess he called his boss instead thinking I would fold. Well that didn't happen. I went on the truck, the movers helped me figured out the 1370 cubic foot mark was and informed the movers do not go past this line. They agreed and continued packing up the truck, Once the truck was loaded with my stuff and they were adding their moving blankets, extra boxes and their other supplies, I gave them 1/2 the money I owed and headed to Savannah TN to prepare for the Monday April 28th Delivery.

    I received a text at approx 03:14 am Monday morning from the driver stating they just arrived home from a Kentucky move (which they had talked about on Saturday), grabbing some sleep and will let me know when they head my way. At 13:53 received another text from the driver stating they have rested up and will be heading my way shortly. Replied ok. Figured 16:00-17:00 arrival. They did not arrive until 19:35. Tgey had additional stops to make before they delivered my goods which was not disclosed to me.

    Driver kept stating he's been doing this for over 16 years. Funny how he could not come clean and tell me his location. He knew he was going to be late on the pickup and delivery. If I lived in a residential neighborhood, no way he could arrive or depart at the late times he did. They wasted my time waiting on them to arrive on pickup and delivery. The main item I needed down south that was on the list was my large gun safe. I had dollies already on the safe to move it more easily - and Jordan, before you go and say I was over my allowed limit I would have left whatever items off the truck to ensure the safe was on the truck.

    I also find it highly unusual that I received zero paperwork upon the driver leaving with my goods or upon receipt of my goods. When I gave the driver payment at each point, he stated he had no way to provide me with a receipt of payment. The only way he could provide a receipt was if I paid by credit card, but that was not one of my payment options stated on the contract.

    The movers were professional and personable, but couldn't seem to give honest answers. As a 20 year Navy veteran, I have been through many moves and never have I had such an array of mishaps with a move. When I went into this move, I knew I would still have to move some things myself, but wouldn't need a very big trailer, maybe even a pull behind would be enough. With this all being said I would like some sort of refund. I will now have to get a truck ($1500.00 minimum) to move my large safe. Same size truck I used to get the safe to the storage units in the first place. Very disappointed

There exists a law from the Department of Transportation which stipulates that no moving company is permitted to alter the cost of a move within 72 hours prior to the pickup date. Anyone wishing to verify this information may contact the DOT directly. Clients who wish to modify their inventory within that 72-hour window must do so after the moving company's arrival. Although we do not agree with this law, we are obligated to comply with it, just as every other national moving company must. We have been in communication with you, Michael, in an attempt to address the issues, you have encountered regarding the services provided. All national moving companies are required to include both a primary and a backup date in their contracts, and they may use either date based on their scheduling needs. In your situation, we had to resort to the backup date. You expressed a reluctance to incur additional charges for volume exceeding 1370 cubic feet, which is why we did not transport the safe. We were capable of moving the safe, and your assertion regarding that matter is not accurate. You did not wish to pay for more than 1370 cubic feet. Since you had more items than initially estimated, we loaded 1370 cubic feet. We are making efforts in order to attempt to resolve this complaint.

    Updated on 07/21/2025: Northern Moving Systems claim that they are not a moving broker however, they absolutely are one. We moved from Ohio to Florida and were told that we would be dealing with one person. My husband has talked to at least three different people for the last two weeks. Our belongings have been taken to Cleveland and we lived in the Columbus area. It is going on the third week and nothing has been delivered or even left Ohio.

    Original Review: They subbed out our move to another company. The person we talked to said he would be our contact throughout the whole move. After we signed up we never heard from him again. The new company has no idea when they will get our belongings moved from Ohio to Florida. We tried calling them all week and they don’t have any information.

    We did not outsource your service. Our registered agent executed your service. We have registered agents throughout the United States, similar to Allied, Mayflower, and United Van Lines. These are the largest moving companies in the United States, and our operations are no different from theirs. If you have doubts, the next time you encounter one of their trucks on the highway, take a moment to examine the back cargo door or the driver's side door. You will find the name of their registered agent displayed in those locations. Ms. Wolf, you claim that you signed up and subsequently did not hear from our representative again. However, our database records indicate that our customer service representatives maintained regular communication with you. Each time you called, you interacted with one of our customer service representatives. It is unreasonable to expect the estimator to be available for every customer for whom he conducts an estimate. He would be occupied on the phone constantly and unable to carry out any estimates. This is why the customer service department takes over once the job is booked. Your belongings were initially transported to Cleveland, as that is where our nearest storage facility is situated. While we may not have delivered your goods as swiftly as you desired, we did deliver them within the time constraints outlined in our delivery windows as per our contract. These delivery windows are mandated and regulated by the Department of Transportation. We do not conduct direct deliveries unless specified during the initial estimate and requested by the client. You did not request a direct delivery. We do offer direct deliveries, but they incur an additional charge. You received your shipment within the time frame mandated by the DOT.     Theri website says they are not a broker - WRONG!! They quoted and sold, and NOTHING else, and then they ghost you. A different trucking company came. They hired mostly inexperienced packers off the street. The truck was 10 days late to our new home (after touring the US picking up other loads). We opened boxes where items just thrown in. We had more broken items in this move than we moved overseas, including a dining room table that is irreparable. AND, Northern Moving contracted out our claims. It has been over 2 months since we filed our claim and we are still at least 100th in line. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

    Northern Moving Systems helped me move from a two-bedroom apartment to a house, and they did a wonderful job. I packed some items myself and let them handle the fragile stuff. Their team brought all the materials and packed my items with extreme care. They also disassembled and reassembled my furniture without a problem. The movers were cheerful and seemed genuinely happy to help. It made a huge difference on a stressful day. Everything arrived safely, and the process couldn’t have gone smoother.
