A friend's daughter had participated in Barbizon and she had a wonderful experience. She told us about it so we contacted them and put my daughter's picture on the website. We went in and everybody was really nice. We talked to them and it was kind of a little conference about what to expect. It was very informative. My daughter enjoyed the classes and everybody was super nice.
My daughter is very shy. I thought that Barbizon would be a good way to give her some self-confidence and make her feel better. She did the six-month class where she only went to class once a month. She’s doing a lot better. She went to Dallas and she did well there. She won in her division and this is her first year. My daughter's only 11 and she was selected to come for other modeling opportunities. She had a great response. She got 30 call backs. We just came back from Plano, Texas and our contact through Barbizon is what helped her land that modeling opportunity. We had a great experience with them. When she went to the modeling event this past weekend, she was a little hesitant to go in but once she got in, she had a wonderful time. She made some new friends, too. It’s helped her.
We still have pretty constant contact with Barbizon. I just called and left a message for Brooke this morning to tell her how our weekend went this past weekend. I can always count on them calling and checking in. She called us before we went to the event. I would recommend Barbizon to anybody looking to enroll their child in some activity outside of school and home. I’ve had a few people ask me because we post pictures on Facebook. If they have the ability to get their child involved, Barbizon is a great opportunity for them.

One of my friends was talking about Barbizon. I'm interested in theater and acting and have always wanted to get into that world. I'd taken theater all through high school, and middle school. My friend says it's a great chance or opportunity to learn more and it's not just based on one particular area of theater. She was totally right. It taught me a lot about my self-worth too. They taught adequacy as well and it was really nice and cool and I really loved it.
The process signing up was pretty easy for me. I live in Columbia and they were coming to Columbia so I drove over there to sign up, do the application process, and an interview. I was really glad about that because I don't know if I could've been able to make it if it was somewhere else. When we got there they gave very good insight about the company and what their expectations were and how they would help and what they could do for us. It was really interesting and they acted friendly towards. I never felt like that with any other company and it was nice. They really made an impression on me.

Letting my daughter attend Barbizon worked easily for us because the lessons were conducted once a month and they were right here, close to us. Signing up my daughter online took a week or so of back and forth with them, but they were helpful whenever I missed anything. My daughter also said the teachers were nice. However, there was a time when she complained that they were using some former students. There was also a time that she came back and didn’t seem to have enjoyed her experience that day.
Letting my daughter attend Barbizon was a good ride, though. It was something new and different. But I felt lost at placing her in the industry and I didn’t feel guided enough to get her started in her acting. That’s the part where I really struggled. The money was quite a constraint for us, too, and we had to sacrifice a lot for that. Plus, whenever we tell anybody about it, they’d say they couldn’t afford it.

We were at the mall and we saw that all the girls were standing out there for Barbizon. We also signed up for my daughter's career and their process was very good. She wants to take up modeling and acting, and Barbizon would really help her out in the public eye and in being able to know how to carry herself. The people at Barbizon seemed to be very nice and I appreciate them all. They talked things through with me and explained things so that I’d understand. Chevy was the one that helped us a lot. The Barbizon Modeling program was a great experience for my daughter. She participated in the Dallas competition and all the classes. She’s had a lot of gigs already come through to offer her jobs and we haven’t had any problems whatsoever. The only thing that kept us from doing some of them is school, but we’re going to do a lot more in the summer.

A couple of years ago, my daughter was walking through a shopping mall when someone stopped her and she signed up for Barbizon. We hadn’t heard of any other modeling agency that had been in the long term for as long as Barbizon that’s actually pursued her so we decided on them. Two years later, we got a call saying that they wanted her to attend a seminar, which was in West Columbia, and her career took off from there. Everything was excellent and I loved our experience. Barbizon's process was fairly easy and their staff was so nice and friendly. I also enjoyed all the seminars and my daughter had a wonderful time there. We learned a whole lot about the business industry, not just about modeling, and it was a total learning experience for both of us which was amazing.

My daughters have been wanting to be models since a very young age. They have auditioned for many different events. The initial audition for Barbizon was a little grueling for them as it was just a really long wait but they stuck it out because they were determined. My 10 year is more outspoken while my 9 year old was a little shy. I had the opportunity to put my 10 year old through the classes. Yes it was a little expensive however the experience, knowledge & confidence that she has gained is well worth it. She also was able to make some really good friends that she keeps in contact with. With the things she learned she has been working with my 9 year old to teach her as well. During their wait to audition for Passport to Discovery my 10 year old & a few of her Barbizon friends coached my 9 year old & helped her choose a commercial in which she did very well with so I am truly grateful for the opportunities Barbizon is providing for my girls.
Yes it is costly however they are getting an experience that will last them a lifetime. No one can get you a job but you. You have to learn how to market yourself and I think that Barbizon is doing a great job preparing their students with the skills to push forward. My girls' confidence has skyrocket and they are ready to reach for the stars. I am grateful to Barbizon.

I looked into Barbizon Modeling for my daughter since she was interested in them. She took the 6-month classes then she was part of a competition. Signing up wasn't easy, but wasn't difficult either. However, when we first went to the audition, they had a closed door. We waited in the den and that was when we found out how much it costs. It was a big decision to make whether you were gonna do it or not, even though you might not get hired all the time. They've done a good job in helping my daughter become more confident when it comes to standing in front of a large group of people -- she used to have doubts and second thoughts about it.

Modeling and acting were some of the things that my daughter wanted to do forever. When she was little, I paid an agency but that didn’t work out. Then she went to another audition but they wanted a lot so that didn’t work out either. Then I met someone at the mall who told me about Barbizon. My daughter went to the audition and Barbizon’s reps really tried to work with me to make things happen. They offered her half-tuition and allowed me to do the payment arrangements that worked with my schedule of how I got paid, instead of telling me what exact dates I should make my payments. They were amazing and very nice people.
I know that they do a lot and that it costs a lot of money to run a business, but it was very expensive to do the Passport to Discovery Cruise. For a lot of girls, they may get nothing out of it except from experience. So, I like that it’s more of an investment for my daughter to get exposure in different things and she did very well on the Passport to Discovery Cruise. I believe things will happen out of it but I don’t know if I would be that mom who would be happy that Barbizon pushed me to let my daughter go there even if they knew there is no high potential. Other than that, Barbizon is a place for people to feel safe about the industry and have a great start. It’s also good to get started because a lot of times you don’t know what you’re doing, and they do.

My daughter was interested in modeling and acting, and I got her into Barbizon because of its convenient location and years of experience. Everybody at Barbizon was knowledgeable and helpful. When we signed up, there was an information session and they did an overview of the program and how to sign up. It was in the same location that was convenient and had a lot of information. A lot of people were talking about it as well, which gave me a lot of information upfront. Getting into Barbizon made my daughter very confident and she had a lot more information and tools about what she was interested in and a lot of network with her peers. She had a lot of really nice pictures and I liked that she was able to interact with her peers who have the same interest. I like the mentoring of the more experienced staff at Barbizon, too.

My experience as a Mother for my child was horrible. My daughter didn't really do anything in these classes. I had to pay 1000 for her to enter and her metro pass. Not only that I had to cancel her class since, I have an economical problem and I can't afford to pay her class. I paid what I was missing which, was close to $2000. I paid half of the money and called how much I still owed and they said because my daughter was in two class I have to pay $3000 more. This is a scam. Don't join Barbizon. There are millions of ways to be spotted to become a singer, model, actress. DON'T JOIN BARBIZON. IT'S A COMPLETE SCAM.

Imagine my surprise when my daughter, the Tomboy wanted to begin Modeling at 14 years of age. She soaked it up and thoroughly enjoyed it! After completing the course she traveled to Manhattan with them. It was the experience of a lifetime. She modeled all through college. I would recommend Barbizon to all parents. It is a wonderful educational tool.

While the classes were beneficial, I feel this is a financial nightmare for parents. They told me only 12 kids would be accepted in their Atlanta trip and we find out all 50 in her class were accepted. I tried to cancel my contract and they said I had to do it over the phone but was unable to reach anyone. I feel they baited me and switched what was told. I feel like they prey on people who want the best for their children, feeding them the words they want to hear when in fact they don't care. It's all the money. Stay away.
Hi Danielle,
We are glad to hear you found the classes to be beneficial but sorry you were not completely satisfied with our program. I attended the Savannah Georgia Barbizon courses and I was very dissatisfied with my experience. I am 16 years old and I was placed in the class for 8-12 year olds. My mother and I requested to have me moved to the proper multiple times (seeing as that particular class was taught to accommodate small children) and they denied my request. I had to have my father come and speak personally to the director before they would change my class. Even in the correct class we learned almost nothing towards the industry and we generally just sat in chairs and talked amongst ourselves. For the last 3 classes the instructor for the younger children quit and the children were moved to our class. Once again our curriculum was slowed down to accommodate small children. We repeatedly had "photoshoots" which were very unprofessional and the photos were taken from an old iPad with horrible camera quality.
We were told to use these pictures in our professional portfolio but any agency would see those pictures and dismiss the talent as unprofessional and inexperienced. Despite all that my family paid multiple thousand dollars for these classes and I completed them. We were guaranteed job offers or at least casting calls. Here I stand 6 months after completion of these classes and I still have yet to even receive an email from Barbizon about a casting call. We were also supposed to receive a certificate of completion that would help us in the industry. I have yet to receive that certificate.
I have maintained contact with the class I graduated Barbizon with (making those friends was the only part of the experience worth completing) and the entirety of the class feels cheated. We all paid enough to buy a gently used vehicle to complete those classes and we all agree that is was not a trade we would ever make again. None of us would recommend any family waste that exuberant amount of money as it is not worth it and is a overall bad experience.
Hi Aloera,
We are sorry you were not satisfied with your classes. We do have some opportunities we think you may be interested in and are happy to review your account to make sure you are enrolled in the placement department for casting opportunities. If you could please message us and let us know if you are interested and the best contact number for you and the best time to reach you, we can have someone reach out to you.

I've had amazing comments from those who attend Barbizon about ten years ago. However, my experience and the experience of parents in my daughters class was horrific. Our children were scheduled to go in a training area of a very unsafe neighborhood. We were informed it was the only location available. There's a huge lack of communication amongst the teammates, for these reasons Barbizon isn't what it used to be???
Hi Octavia,
We appreciate your feedback about the class location. This location was moved to a much better location. We appreciate your support and assistance.

Do not go to the Suffolk Barbizon. (Every Barbizon is different). You are paying thousands of dollars for only 5 classes. They teach you the basics which is ok but not worth thousands of dollars. It's one class a month. The photos you take aren't with a professional they come out looking like trash. They promise to give you job offers but I rarely get any unless I call their Florida office. Their office is in Florida so living in New York you can't do much about it. Side note: I have met people who went to different Barbizons and have had different experiences but DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME with this one. If you are living in New York go to the Manhattan one.
Hi Cleidy, We are sorry to hear about your experience. It appears that you recently booked a project for a major brand through your local school's Placement Department. If you contact the Placement Department directly, they will be happy to ensure that all of your contact information on file is correct and that the photos you submitted for your file are marketable. As opportunities become available in your area you will continue to be notified via email and/or phone but it is based on the limitations of the number of clients booking in your area and what their requirements are for each specific job. If you have any additional feedback on the program we would appreciate hearing from you and can be reached at barbizon@barbizonmodeling.com.

My daughter was selected for the Barbizon modeling school. At first she was super excited. She attended one class and decided it's not something she wants to do anymore. I sent in certified letter so could have refund sent back (we paid in full). First was told because we paid in full we were not entitled to refund. I asked where can I read that because not stated on my contract. Then I was told out of the $1995 we paid we would only get $595. They get to keep 80%. I'm getting a lawyer. She only attended 1 class. How do you keep that much?!?

My child originally signed up with Barbizon Modeling a couple of years ago. She was with her friend and they saw Barbizon at the mall. She and her friend decided to sign up to see if they would receive a callback. They gave their name, phone number, and information. She got enrolled and finished the courses and she has to make up a couple of the classes in August and September. The classes that we have been able to attend, she was able to learn a lot from them. And that has helped her when she was trying to look for work this summer.
As for the Barbizon staff, anytime I had to interact with them, they were always very courteous. They did the best to help us, get the information that we needed, and answer the questions that we had. They have always been able to help us in whatever way possible for them to make sure that my daughter grows and becomes a better person in her future. It was a very good learning experience.

This is our first experience with Barbizon and it was really good and warm plus the signing up process was pretty easy. Janai participated in a class wherein they had to do a music video or an acting skit and she said it was an amazing day. It’s been wonderful just for them to call and check on her and keep me informed of the little things that she need and now she is more confident in herself. he's not so shy, she's accepting that she's a very beautiful young lady and it's teaching her mannerisms and lady etiquette. So, I appreciate that. It was a big help. The representatives in Barbizon kept communicating with me and they went above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable.

My sister and I both attended Barbizon and graduated in 2009. I wasn't into the whole modeling thing. I was more interested in the acting world because we did professional theater for three years and we both joined Barbizon hearing they were great and where we took the classes was close to our house as well. Everything went well. There was an audition process. We had to walk and present ourselves. And we had to let them know if we have some type of talent. I told them I could sing so I performed a song and did the follow-up process. And then, we talked about money and the down payment. There was a payment plan too. Everything was very professional and well-polished. When I was 15, I was very tomboyish and shy. I was in a shell all the time but Barbizon did boost my self-esteem. We worked on presence, manners, how to walk, how to do our makeup, and how to make friends all at once.
I attended the Barbizon competition and also had a parent's convention a few years ago. And we did a couple of performances and commercials. I got a few callbacks but I politely had to decline because I was too young to travel out of state. I also won a medal but that was in my division because they separate the girls by size, age and everything in two different groups. And from my division, I was the best. So, I had an amazing experience.

Both of our daughters have already been to Barbizon and our youngest is doing mall promotions with them. Barbizon is well known and it started off as a finishing school so it was more of the cause that we are aiming for like being able to speak publicly and know how to represent yourself in front of people. Experience with them has been great except for some reason they keep losing track of our kid's ages. Barbizon really affected our children well. My wife had our younger daughter get involved in a girl scouts as well. She was kind of an introverted kid and she really learned how to put herself out in public and be able to speak to people that she had never met before and be able to do it past their parents so it was very good.
Our elder daughter went to a Passport to Discovery and like the Orlando airport. There was a big screening with different folks, and she did a couple of those. Our youngest daughter decided that she didn’t want to go that route. They like doing the mall promotion because it gave them an opportunity to earn a little bit of money at a young age, and our elder daughter likes doing the registrar jobs too. Also, the world is full of rejection so the sooner you get that captured in your head and able to deal with it, the better off you are and that's one thing we like about it. There's rejection when doing mall promotions where people are kind of brushing by you and saying "No, thank you" or being rude, and being able to handle it and keep going is a very valuable experience for them.

My daughter went to Barbizon and she graduated and they told her after everything she was gonna be place. The first time I paid almost $3,000 did not receive any of my money back. They kept calling me outta Florida and never got a placement package. And when they call me the second time for my daughter I still had to pay out money so Talia said forget it was about the money to me. And she is 18 now and this was back in 2012 and 13. The people at Barbizon were very helpful and so signing up was an easy process. I thought about the price that morning but I see potential in the classes. I was in modeling when I was younger and I thought that that will help my daughter with the confidence and the self-esteem. She went to part of the classes and she’s been working for Barbizon many times, in different events at the mall.
I have issues with my daughter because she’s very shy and needs to be reminded of her self-confidence. So I feel like people don’t have to see it as a modeling career or something attached to that but as part of life. Even in a regular job, you need to step-up and have that confidence in order to get the job because there are so many people waiting for the same job. The girls bringing that confidence and learning how to be pretty in and out is important and has been the highlight of our experience. But I'd like to have more events that will give more exposure to the girls.

My daughter was approached in our local mall by Barbizon. She was with a friend and the friend’s mom, and no one mentioned it to me. Then I kept getting calls from Florida and I didn't answer. At one point, they left a message and referenced my daughter's name. The message didn’t mention that it was Barbizon but said it was about a great opportunity. It pinched my interest so I called back and spoke with Debra. My daughter said she was interested and then she attended her classes in Syracuse, New York. She also did the PTD Cruise and done some work at the mall in behalf of Barbizon.
She's also been approached several times to do some other things but it's been conflicting with school. But she's been doing very well and I credit it all to Barbizon. It's not just specifically about paid work, but all of the things that Barbizon course did for her in terms of adequate and proper interviewing skills, having the confidence to speak in front of a group, and even acting in and of itself. When we went to the first meeting with Barbizon, my daughter said she's interested in modeling but was afraid to do acting. But now she's been in two school musicals, TV commercials and print ads. She even knows how to read from a teleprompter. Most importantly, she has just completed her freshman year as a television/radio major at Ithaca College. She hosts a college television show and she's part of their news team. It's just amazing. And that's all because of the nurturing of Barbizon.

I attended Barbizon School many years ago. My mother paid the tuition which was a couple of thousands of dollars. I went through the classes. They weren't that bad. I eventually graduated and when I did, my mother asked me "Well what now? Are they going to help you find a job like they said they would?" So we went up to them and they seemed more forced than anything to try to help me after the graduation.
They brushed me off, paid no interest, and no effort to try to help me in achieving what I had paid so much money to do. I eventually stopped going because I realized we had thrown our money away. I didn't feel like they helped and after paying so much money and most of us being so young, I felt like I was getting nowhere. I would not recommend this school to anyone. Total rip off and waste off time.

It was nice to finally hear from someone. Kelly called me and was very empathic and I appreciate her calling me and apologizing for the mistake. Thank you Kelly for hearing me out and thank you and Barbizon for resolving this matter. I realized that not everyone is the same. Just keep in mind that if anyone agrees to the contract, then that means you do not get all your money back if you want to discontinue along the way. The exception would be only if there was a mistake on their end.

Please I beg you all to be cautious with this company. They psych people up real good and convince people that they are best. Boy was I deceived. This agency has young girls in the mail signing up under false information... We signed up because they were promoting a chance to win a trip to new York with a contract with Nickelodeon. I get a call weeks later and get invited to the so call interview. At first we were so excited so I took my daughter because I thought this would be a great opportunity for her. The director Renee chooses my daughter to be in the children's department but of course there is a catch... it was too good to be true. SMH. We have to pay for the courses. The director convinced me not to worry because she will work with me on payment arrangements.
A down payment of 495 is required before they go to the first class. I had gave them 400 the day my daughter went to the first class and made arrangements to pay the other 95 dollars in a week. But this conniving company goes behind my back and decides to draw the money days earlier than the day agreed, which causes my bank to overdraft since I didn't have the funds in there. When I tried to reach the director and she went MIA after they sucked up my money in the bank and left me in bad standings with my bank. I was upset that they didn't wait until the day we agreed because I didn't make preparations to put the funds needed in my account for that transaction.
This all took place in November 2016 and now we are in April 2017, and I'm still fighting for my refund of 495.00. I have a pending case with the BBB and I been going back and forth. It upsets me that Barbizon doesn't even respect the guidelines to the window time frame to respond to complaints. They somehow are still accredited with the BBB even though they pass deadlines with responses to complaints against them. I ended up closing my account with my bank account. I got so upset with my bank that they had to do a 21 day investigation before crediting me the funds and overdraft fees to my account. I needed my funds right away because money needed to secure my family's shelter. Renee made it seem like she wanted to help but all she said did was play with my emotions. She made promises to correct her mistake but all she did was give me the runaround via text messages.
Before going to the BBB, I tried to resolve the matter with Renee. She would tell me that she mailed the check and I would go to the mailbox for a week. I would tell her that I haven't received anything and she would say check supposedly and say it was returned. I went in circles with her telling me lies when she had no intention to pay anything. I have proof of text messages for everything and my bank statement and with all this, they still won't do the right thing of refunding my down payment.
Please, please, do not be fooled by these people who act like they want a relationship with your kids and that they are so interested in their education. It's all facade to tie you into their contract and then they BLEED your money. They have an objective which is to get all you got at no cost. None of them are genuine. Once you give them the money, they will do and say anything to not refund it even when you the evidence to support their wrong doing. No one should have to spend thousands of dollars to build a child's confidence. I will not budge and give in. I'm still fighting for my refund. Save yourself the same grief. I will broadcast this if it's necessary. I'm currently looking for people who have experienced similar situations in order to file a civil lawsuit them.
Hi Johanna,
As we have expressed to you, we are very sorry you did not receive the customer service you deserve and for the confusion with your payments that you experienced. We have reached out and tried to resolve this for you and hope still to be able to reach a fair resolution. We will continue to speak with you privately to resolve this matter.

I used to watch Shirley Temple when I was little and I always wanted to be an actress or model. Then I got a call from them a couple of months later. I looked through the magazines that they gave me and wanted to make sure that their program was not like one of those fake ones. But I saw some people there that I recognized, so I was like, "Okay, that's good."
I went to the Barbizon modeling and acting class in Chattanooga, and then they changed to Georgia, but that was way too far for me, so they transferred me to Nashville and that's the one I took. I'm from a small town, so signing up with Barbizon was very out of my comfort zone. At first, they interviewed us and everything went really fast. The staff made me feel a lot comfortable. My experience with Barbizon definitely made me feel more confident about myself. Doing the Barbizon class once every month was like being a different person for one time a month. I'm very satisfied and I really like the experience that I had with them. It has quite improved me a lot.

It was Olivia's second time to go out with something like a personal development. I told her once she got a little older that we would try it. I looked and read some reviews online and we decided to give Barbizon a try. So far, it’s working out good. She learned a lot and met new people and friends. She really has shown growth in her personality so it was a great experience. Also, the staff there was always very respectful and helpful and their communication was very well.

For the most part, my daughter enjoyed the experience with Barbizon. It has opened her up in regards to the way she looks at life although she's young. Also, I've seen her confidence level go up. The classes have opened her up to be more outspoken, not in a bad way but to be able to voice her opinion, not feel threatened by it and voice it in a way that she is not offensive to others. She's also being more inclusive of others and other people. I've seen the growth in her over the course of the classes that she's taken in the last six months. She completed her classes in December, but even at school, she volunteers more for public speaking. Now she's still enjoying the opportunities that she's hopefully able to participate in. She's doing the audition for Passport to Discovery and she's also doing the audition for the Capital District that's coming up in May. The one for the Capital District, I appreciate Barbizon inviting her to that.

The Director of buffalo go by the name Michelle has a very bad attitude and very unprofessional to be working with kids. My daughter was attend her 2 day of class and I owe .50 cent and she wouldn't let my daughter go into the classroom until I pay the .50 cent and I told Michelle when I came to get my daughter I would bring it back and she told me no because she can lose her job over .50 cent. Then a situation happen in class and Michelle the Director of the school told my daughter if they kick her out she will not receive none of her money back that her parents put in. Very unprofessional to say to a child that didn't know her parents was paying for her to attend them class.
Also I call the corporate office to let them know my daughter was not comfortable attend their school and ask them to refund me my money and on my contract it say 50 dollars of the money is nonrefundable and 150 was nonrefundable and she only attend 33% of the class and they got 820 dollars from us and they don't want to refund none of the money back.

Barbizon called me but I wasn’t positive it was something I wanted to do. Then they called me back again and I thought it would be good for my child, to help instill confidence and learn how to conduct herself around others and in interviews, to put on makeup. It's been a very positive experience so far. My daughter's doing something nobody else or her friends are doing, and it's building confidence knowing that she can do what Barbizon is asking her to do.
However, Barbizon doesn't tell you up front it's gonna cost you money. They get you in there, talk to you for an hour and a half, try to sell you on their product and then tell you how much it costs. They put you on the spot and you have to make a quick decision for a lot of money. I understand why they do it, but from a consumer standpoint, it catches you off guard. That was something I wish I would've been a little more prepared for going into it.

One of the reps from Barbizon was at the International Mall. My daughter got a sheet and signed up, and we got a call from them. We enrolled her because that made her happy. Barbizon taught them how to behave in public, as well as manners so it wasn't that bad. Then we got a call from Passport to Discovery, and in my opinion, that's a total scam because I pay almost $4,000 for a Carnival cruise, which is the cheapest cruise. But other than that, my daughter got lots of confidence and that was why we supported her. This is something that made my child happy and I don't regret doing it for her. That was a very, very positive thing but it was very expensive to gain this positive feedback. The only reason I won't recommend it to anyone is the fee.

My parents got a phone call. They told me that I was a selected to audition, and we found out about Barbizon through that. Barbizon sounded very promising. I needed confidence and skills, so my parents thought it would be a very good investment. I have the want and the drive to finish, and I felt Barbizon was going to improve my acting and modeling skills.
The classes were very fun. My family did not have enough money to pay for it all at once, and I like how Barbizon let us split up the payments. That was very helpful. I was very sad because our director had to leave our second month of class. So it took a little while for us to get used to our new director, but she was very nice and very sweet to us. And I love my teacher. I am very thankful because I wouldn't be who I am today without Barbizon. I've built up my confidence and my acting skills for auditions and I can do my runway walk with no problem. I'm getting ready for Passport to Discovery and I'm very excited about that.

My daughter was approached at the mall, along with a bunch of her friends, and was asked to fill in some information if she was ever interested in modeling. It was a right time, right place kind of situation. She had been interested in it for a while, so she put the information in. Signing up was very easy for her. She’s a happy-go-lucky kid and she's lucky enough to be tall, skinny and pretty. So she just showed her own personality and I think that's what attracted them to her.
It had been a while and then we got contacted by them to see if she still wanted to come in and see if they could find a fit for her. It's not just about being pretty. There was a lot of education, little steps they needs to take and little nuances within the industry, and Barbizon prep them for it. There's a series of classes that they offered, so she went to those and had a lot of great experiences and takeaways from them. Every time she would go, she’d come back with something else. We've noticed a physical and a mental change on her. She stopped dressing sloppily. Her attitude was always good and she always had a good outlook. It just seemed like the outside was matching the inside more.
She loved the classes and we've competed twice. We also did the Passport to Discovery competition and she got accepted, but unfortunately, financially, we couldn't do it. But she just got accepted again for the one that’s coming up in Washington, D.C., and we're looking forward to going to that and what comes from it.
It was a great experience with Barbizon. Everything's been good with their staff. Any time I've had to call or talk to anybody, they’ve always been very pleasant. We also like that they’re willing to talk with her, and if she needs to take refresher classes, she can. We’re getting ready to sign up for the extension so that’s going to be a different aspect that we’re running into. That's coming down the road and we're just hoping to get her working more because she's already working here locally.

My daughter was at the mall and got a brochure from Barbizon. They were a little more affordable so we went with them. She took the class where they went once a month for six Saturdays, which was best to have a little of everything. Signing up was easy but financially a burden. Every time there's something to be offered, there has to be money to be shelled out. Right now they got the D.C. thing that they're talking about, and just to do that costs $795, which doesn't include the hotel stay. I'm still struggling to figure out how I'm going to pay for the cruise because they highly recommend getting sought out by agents. They tell you, “Your daughter is this, your daughter is that.” But then when you're talking to the other girls, they all have the same critique.
My husband feels like it’s a scam, especially with wanting $4000 for a cruise when the average cruise to where we’re going is only $1100 round trip. We’re looking at almost $7000 because my husband doesn't want our daughter to go alone. In the meantime, we don't know if we're going to have it at the deadline, and then we’ll look like the bad guys because it's something she really wants to do. Then the reps at Barbizon are like, “If you go to the D.C. thing, you might be able to get a scholarship and that could pay for the whole thing or 50% or 30%.” If we want to stay at the hotel for the low price of $1300, we can take the gamble of maybe getting the scholarship on the cruise or not. Just so that she can have the exposure to agents, to know if this is what she's really gonna do in life. Overall Barbizon has done everything that they said they would do, but right now my photographer is giving my daughter more exposure than they have.

My daughter was 10 years old when she first wanted to go to Barbizon. She attempted the first time and she missed a call to do it. At 16 she made it and she went through the entire program. The worst part of signing up was the financial aspect of it because it's really high, but Barbizon wanted her so badly that they were willing to give her a partial scholarship, which really helped. She paid her way through Barbizon and I did not pay a dime for her.
One time in school, a problem arose when a gentleman was harassing my daughter, and she brought it up to the attention of the faculty there. The following day, the faculty staff called to make sure that everything was okay. Thanks to Barbizon, she now smiles more. She's already photogenic, but she loves to take photos and she knows the angles in which she should pose now. She holds her head higher when she goes out in public and with friends, and she takes great pride in the way she looks more so than before. Overall it's a great program and every child should do it and build their well-being.

The Barbizon staff has been very nice. Signing up my daughter with them was fine but they could do better about explaining ahead of time before you get there into the big room. Also, once you get to a certain level, you think you're coming in just for an audition but you're gonna need to pay a lot more money for it. That could be explained a lot better too. I also had questions on some of the classes that my daughter went through as to why they did them. Then after they graduate, it would take six weeks to get the paperwork. I called them after the six weeks and they told me that it was going to take anywhere from four to six weeks for me to either get an email or a package in the mail. So I asked the lady to let me talk to someone above her and then she said that I'd have that email in the next couple of hours.

She then took the classes, but was a little too old because she's 20. She was hoping it would open up more doors for modelling. She has been hired as a paid intern for Barbizon. So far, it has boosted her confidence and created additional interest in modelling and acting. However, the website and their method of communication when they send letters by email, the quality is not there. Sometimes, the documents that we receive is very low quality and when we print it off or enlarge it, it's difficult to read.

My daughter was walking in the mall when Barbizon stopped her and asked if she was interested. She filled out an info card and they called and said that if she was interested, she should call back some talent person. When we called that person, we were told that there's a big meeting where they were interviewing possible Barbizon people. My daughter went to it and 400 people showed up. They claimed only 50 was chosen and she was one of the 50.
Personal development wise, it gave her a lot more self-confidence and poise. She's already very lady-like but it educated her that she's doing the right stuff with skin care, hair and makeup. But I don't know if it's really been helpful getting her into a modeling career. Like in the packet that they sent, they expect her to create her own slate, video and curriculum vitae that she has no experience to put on there. That's been the disappointing part. The biggest thing to us was that they said they know most people aren't gonna become runway models but they could do catalog modeling. That was a very interesting prospect for us but I don't know if that's gonna turn out now.

They gave the information to let me know what it was all about, and it sounded like it was something good to get her in to give it a shot because she wants to model and do acting.
When I first got the call and the email, I was like, "Okay. Here we go. There's some company wanting money and to waste time." But it was very nice. We went and we sat through the orientation and they told us all about the class. Then we waited while she talked with the scouting agent in the next room, and it went from there. They told us to come back and we were interested. The staff at Barbizon were all friendly. If I had a question, they responded immediately, and that was nice. It was easy to sign Brianna up for the class, and so far we've been sticking with it.
My daughter has become more outspoken and outgoing since she got started with the Barbizon program. She was very excited about everything she learned. She would come home and share it with us. They had the packets with the different plans we could choose from, the different payment options, and things they had available to all the parents going through the lifestyle. My daughter was at the mall and there was a Barbizon kiosk, and she filled out information for their classes. Then they called us the first time and I didn't believe them because I didn't have a clue, and I'm like, "Oh my gosh, who is she giving my number to?" So, it went rather badly and we didn't attend the audition the first time around. The second time around, I spoke to a person who was very charismatic on the phone and made me feel quite at ease. We went and did the audition, and they said that they would love to take and train my daughter.
We initially didn't do the sign-up. We had a week to agree, but I took a bit longer. There was a lot of my daughter's begging that she wanted to do this, so I agreed to it. However, they did not give me all the information and paperwork, and we had planned a family trip, so she missed her first class. Nonetheless, they told us not to worry and that she can make that class up the following month. So, she went to the second class, which would have been her first class, even though it's the second class in the program, but they didn't have her booked. They had her on the list, but they had to call somebody to verify. It was a mess. She ended up making her first class up for her third class.
I let her take a lot of the initiatives. She is 15 and that's something that she really wanted. She's already driven and a leader, but this course was great for her because it gave her more skills that allowed her to be more comfortable, and it gave her the opportunity to show off some of her skills. She ended winning Diva twice because she went to the class that had that Diva award two times, where two different classes were make-up classes. All in all, it was her initiative and she took all the ownership of the classes. It wasn't something that we parents pushed our daughter into. It was something that she wanted, and she graduated and did very well at it, and I'm really proud of her. This course, though, isn't for everybody.

My daughter was approached in the mall about modeling with Barbizon. We attended the tryouts where they determined whether or not they qualified. The next day they pressure you into committing or you are out. We committed and attended training about once a month. There was a final showcase the last day where the girls showed off their ability. It was pretty bad watching some of the girls run down the runway. It appeared they were not trained by a professional as they said they would supply. At the end, they invite you to try out for a cruise.
I think all the girls made the cut because I saw them all the next day where they try to get you to pay thousands of dollars to go on a cruise in which there are no guarantees of jobs. We got 0 job opportunities through Barbizon. Only opportunities were me reaching in my back pocket. We have since moved onto another company and for much less money we are getting modeling opportunities. Barbizon will sell you on "you must pay money to get returns". This is hogwash. You must pay the money so they can live more eloquently.
Hi Alice, We are sorry to hear about your experience. We would appreciate any specific feedback you had regarding the curriculum at barbizon@barbizonmodeling.com. Our local schools are always evolving and improving the way the courses are taught to ensure that regardless of whether the student is interested in modeling, acting or personal development they are able to find success in the program. Regarding job opportunities, did your daughter ever call to request her placement package following graduation? During the program, students are informed that this is a necessary, no cost step to receive notifications of local job opportunities for which they are a good match. If you call the local school, they will be able to assist in providing you with specific information of what is included with placement. While the cruise audition is not required, it is a great additional opportunity for graduates looking to have access to many agents and managers that travel from all over the world for this event. We hope this helps answer some of your questions. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us via email if you would like any additional information.

Amazingly enough, Barbizon's modeling program has made my daughter more confident and has gotten her out of her shell. She's really a shy person and takes a long time for her to get to know people so the program really forced her to become her own person and do her own thing. Now, she's even in a dual credit speech class at school and she says that it's not a problem because a lot of the things she learned in Barbizon is what she can use in the class. It's awesome and definitely worth the money. My wife and I really appreciate it and hope that she can gain some more. The only problem I had was trying to get my daughter into the business. Everywhere she's been to or wherever they sent her to, people like her right off the bat. But sometimes it's costly trying to get her into other areas and getting her be recognized by someone. My husband is on a fixed income right now and it's kind of hard.
They wanted my daughter to go to a trip sometime this year. They came back and told me they've given her another 20% off discount and that they really want her to go. But 20% discount is not enough. If I'm going to go with her, we're still talking about $5000 or $6000 for the whole package and that is where things need to be put to the head office. There is opportunity but there's not enough opportunity where low income people can be given a chance. Barbizon should have a scholarship where they can help them. That's my only problem and everything else was great.

She has lupus and an abundance of illnesses and I thought getting her into Barbizon would help her. Signing her up with them was relatively easy and their staff was pretty good. My daughter did the full class and it was exceptional and wonderful. She enjoyed it and the people she went in there with.
For the most part, everyone was so pleasant. However, when she joined an event at the movie theater, that kind of discouraged her because she heard the young lady that was over her say that she didn't do certain things. I called them about it because different kids have different needs or things that go on. And before that event, my daughter was excited and confident that she can do things but now her self-esteem's less and she's second-guessing on what she wants to do next. That's a lot of money to be sitting up here and she doesn't know if she still wants to continue. I don't even know if I can get her to go back to the class because I would like her to do the class over again.
Also, I was supposed to get a packet and I haven't gotten it to fill it out and do the other stuff for my daughter. Then they called about an internship but at that time, she didn't have her license yet. She does now but I don't know how it goes and what it's supposed to do to put her out there. And they were supposed to be working to be able to get money and she hasn't experienced any of that yet.

However, signing her up was time-consuming. They did a little presentation and then we had to wait in line to meet with people to see if they wanted to pick my daughter or not and it took up five hours of the day.

My daughter enjoys modeling and acting. The staff at Barbizon was good and Barbizon did boost up her self-esteem and did what it’s supposed to have done with the courses. However, after the courses were over, we were just left out in the cold. She did an audition but we thought after we paid the $2,000, she would start trying to get gigs in order to get the money back. She's not and my husband is highly upset about that.
Hi Salena, We are happy to hear your daughter enjoyed the Barbizon program and that is helped to boost her self-esteem. In reviewing her profile, it looks like her placement enrollment was not sent back to the local school following graduation. This is needed to receive notifications of booking opportunities for modeling and acting jobs. If she returns the model card provided in the placement package she will be eligible for these notifications. Please contact your local school directly and they would be happy to provide you with information about the placement program and what is needed to start taking advantage of this free graduate resource.

I never really actually do fashion and "girly" things because I was afraid what others might think BUT since I came to Barbizon I became more of myself.

We've had a good experience with Barbizon. My daughter was at a weird place as far as teenagers can be. I'm not the most socially graceful person and she gets that from me but she does better than I do now. Getting their services gave my daughter confidence and a boost to her self-esteem. And now, she could walk into a room and be able to stand there, smile and talk to somebody. Those kinds of things are the biggest benefits to me even if their price is expensive. My daughter also has worked for them so she's earned a bit of money for them. She's had the opportunity to sign with an agent so she's had good experiences with them.

Because I would not make an immediate on the spot decision on getting him to the modeling school, an 8 hour round trip, on their schedule, he is not going to be with this company. He truly wanted this, I wanted it for him. I was willing to do almost anything to get him there, 4 hours one way. I had 2 days with previous commitments I could not change over the next 5 months. They refused to work with us. He was saddened they would not work with us for those 2 days. It was not about the almost $2,500 they wanted that day. It was about 2 days that I had previous commitments.

They seemed really confident in themselves and the people that they were signing up for classes. I really liked it. They're really clear about everything that I needed to be prepared for and what I needed for classes. The staff were really nice. They understand that most people aren't already in that business and they're really patient with you and really thorough about the things that you need help with. My confidence is better since signing up with them. Meeting everybody, getting along, making new friendships and the different projects that we had to do together made us closer and more experienced. I've learned a lot about the modeling industry and how to present myself in public. I would definitely recommend Barbizon to anybody.

After I realized how to do that, the experience became so much easier and clearer. I am about to go on the PTD cruise. I loved the teachers. One in particular was awesome. As I was walking one time, I saw a Barbizon stand at the mall that I shop at. I've always wanted to try modelling. It's one of those things I always thought I could do. So, when this opportunity came up, I figured if I didn't try it I'd be regretting it years from now. It was super easy to sign up with them. I went for the initial interview and I was in and out in an hour and a half. Then, they called me back right away. Everyone there was super attentive and helpful. My teacher was awesome. It was one of her first classes but she did a great job. Even though it was an eight-and-a-half-hour-day, I still looked forward to it every month.
I learned a lot from their program. They taught me a lot on how to model and a lot of character development. I was a shyer person before I started the classes. Talking to people I don't know or talking in front of a group really helped me transition into college. It was noticed by my family and my friends. It was fun and I really enjoyed it. It's more than just learning how to model and how to act. It's a lot about growing as a person which I actually wasn't expecting it to be. It helped me more all around as a person than just learning how to get my picture taken. I graduated from my classes in January and then I competed at the Washington D.C. Barbizon competition this past June. It was an amazing experience and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I personally paid for my sister's classes. I was there when she signed up. When I asked them how long does it take to get a response on an event or a special, they told me it was fast or it depends on the kind of agent they’re looking for. I saw her training every day, learning the poses, the catwalks and she took it very personally. In fact, I was the one who took her to all the places. However, we still haven't got the packet and every time we called for the packet, they keep telling us to wait but it's been three months, and we still haven't gotten it.
She already did the class, passed and graduated but there was no call to inform her if there's going to be tryouts. She had one event in a mall and the team leader never showed up nor contacted her. When we couldn't contact her, we called the office to let them know that we couldn't find her. They even tried to contact her but she never reached out. Somebody just randomly called me and said somebody picked my name in the drawing for Barbizon. I decided to try modelling and acting because I wanted to have experience in it, learn more about the industry and find a career in that field. Right now I am interning with them. I help the educational director with the classes. I also help the girls set up the room until they'd work. I haven't participated in any event yet. Everything is easy except for driving up there to class. Since there's like a lot of events going on, it's hard to find parking and you had to pay for it, too.
I also attended some classes. We had about three or four different teachers which didn't make sense to me. I didn't have anybody I could focus on. If you only have one person as a teacher they would have known you more personally. They'll know your strengths and weaknesses. Barbizon helped me learn the things that I did not know that was out there like health, skin care regimen and nails. It just built more knowledge for me about what's actually happening in the industry. It was a different experience. I wish I can have more opportunities like that in the future.

My daughter is a very beautiful person inside and out and she has an interest in fashion so I thought Barbizon might be a good step in the door. I was very concerned about some of the reviews that I've read online and so I didn’t want to spend all those money and not get anywhere which, unfortunately, is where we’ve ended up. But I’m sure it’s the lack of ability to know where we need to go within marketing her. She completed the initial program where I had to pay $2,000 for her development and she attended this audition for a cruise and she was selected, but we just could not afford to pay more to go on a cruise.
She didn’t get a lot out of the classes. I don’t know if they taught her more than what she already knew. I thought I would get a more personalized experience. We didn’t really get an individual person helping us and walking us through the whole thing. It felt like a big corporation who processed people through and leaves it up to you to determine your own success. I don't have the time to invest in trying to develop a career for my daughter because I hoped that they would give us more direction and more personal attention for the amount of money we spent. It was a bit unorganized. They did not stick to the curriculum layout of what they had given us to what would be taught in each class. It was presented in a very minimalistic fashion rather than going above and beyond in trying to develop each girl to their full potential. I don't know if I would recommend this to somebody because I expected something different on the outcome.

They've called a couple of times asking her to come to some auditions, and when we would get there, it was discouraging because they would tell her it was for one thing and then it would end up being another thing. Also, they wanted more money from us that we didn't have. It was just a discouragement because she thought she was going to get to do an audition and go out for a job, and it wasn't what it was supposed to be, or what they told her. I have not been pleased with it. We spent $2,000 and we haven't gotten a thing out of it.

My daughter has done the six months training with Barbizon. She went to a local day-long event and we were at the weekend event in Washington, DC in June. The staff at Barbizon are easy to talk to and helpful. But it was a little difficult when I was trying to get some information for the regional events. I had to call the number in Florida five times and had trouble getting a hold of someone who knew the answer.
Their program has made my daughter a little more confident and gave her some specific personal presentation skills, but she already had pretty great social skills before joining them. She graduated from the six month program and they sent us the placement packet, but we haven’t contacted any of the agencies that they suggested. I understand that it’s a business and they’re in it for a profit. But the thing that I found a little difficult is it’s a little misleading - if you graduate from this program and shows up to this event, she’s gonna get put in touch with people who will want to hire her. And that didn’t turn out to be true.
And when we paid almost $2,000 to go to this weekend event in Washington, they said she’d be put in front of all these modeling agencies. But none of the agencies that were local to Boston have contacted her. And some of the “agencies” that she went to the callback for just wanted people to participate in their contest. It wasn’t work for her. And then there was a really heavy sell to go on this six-day cruise thing, which was more thousands of dollars. My daughter thinks that the classes themselves were quite valuable, and that they did teach her skills that would be useful to her. But she says she feels the competitions were oversold in terms of getting her contact with people who might actually hire her. Overall, it was a bit of a pushover. At first, I thought Barbizon was a modeling agency because I had my daughter with me while we were walking through a mall and their reps were standing there and said my daughter is really pretty and she'd be a great model so I should sign her up. My daughter has always wanted to be a model so I signed her up thinking that it was for modeling. But when I went in Columbus for the big meeting, I found out that I had signed her up for classes in modeling and acting. They should have explained initially more about what Barbizon is before we had that meeting because we didn't even live in Columbus. It is about an hour and a half from where we are located.
They also say that once you pay for the classes, you're pretty much done with paying after that. That's not true because you have to pay about $300 for some big show in Atlanta. So there were a lot of monetary things that kept popping out at us at different times as if parents have that kind of money just sitting there. I wish we had been explained what signing up for their program entailed, what we'll be having to pay, and that even after the courses have been taken, your child is not guaranteed a job. They should be a little more organized in the initial information that they provide. The staff at Barbizon was good. She did and then we worked out the kinks throughout the week, like what was going to be the cost. Barbizon worked with me with a financial assistance due to not having all the funds at that time. I like that if she needs to go in for a touch-up, she can always go back and do that because she's part of their system for life. When we had questions during some of the group meetings with the parents and students, we were able to get all of the questions answered there. And whenever an issue had arisen I was able to get someone and get an answer in a very timely manner - always before school or before the next class - so we were never unprepared.
With Barbizon's classes, she's learned stuff that she wouldn't pick up anywhere else. Initially, we started with $2,000. Then, they want another $5,000. Then, they want another $4,000. That's the point that's aggravating. It would be nice if my daughter can land some jobs, get some money and save that money. And with that money we can pay for the other things that Barbizon offers such as the cruises. But we live on a daily basis. I don't have $10,000 that I can just let go and I'm sure half of America doesn't. Barbizon is wonderful if they can give us jobs.
Initially, they told us once we pay the fee, they guarantee us jobs and there is no more money coming out of our pocket. But that's not true. She's finished all her classes and it's been months and she hasn't had one job yet. The only thing that they called her for was to work out more for Barbizon to stand up and to recruit people. Unfortunately, she couldn't do it because she has a job on weekends where she makes more money than what Barbizon was offering. I wish what they present would be the true value of not spending any more money. I'm not saying that Barbizon is bad. It's just that I wish it was more for the child than for themselves because they are the ones that are making the money and not the child.

Barbizon contacted me through email and it happened to be the right time and place. My daughter was already interested in doing something along the lines of personal development, modeling, and acting, and so it would be a good opportunity to go and listen to what they had to say on what their program was all about. The staff at Barbizon were all very friendly and responsive when we were first deciding whether to sign up our child with them, because their course was definitely pricey. I had a lot of questions and they were responsive to every call or email I made. I got called or emailed back within minutes.
It was fine and easy to have my daughter sign up with them. She took a six-month course that was one weekend a month for six months. During her classes, her teachers were also responsive. She really liked them a lot. The Barbizon modeling program gave my daughter more confidence. She was a pretty confident kid anyway, but the program intensified her confidence and helped her get over a little bit of stage fright at getting up in front of people to either walk or speak. She was only 11 or 12 at the time, and a lot of the other girls there were a bit older. Being able to do a monologue, runway walking, and posing in front of a group of supportive girls made her feel really good and gave her some self-confidence.
Since then, the Barbizon course that my daughter took gave her the confidence to go and try to find an agent and do some work, so she feels that it was helpful in moving her to the next stage of this adventure. When she signed on with her agent, her agent said that she likes to work with Barbizon alumni because they've already been trained and she doesn't have to do a lot of extra work with them. At one point in her career early on, she had worked with Barbizon, and she had a good impression. That helped in the interview process with my daughter's agent, so that was nice.

My daughter was at a cheerleading camp and went to the mall where Barbizon was set up. From the information they were feeding me, it seemed like it would be a good experience for her. We were excited about it and the process was okay as far as signing up. The hard part for us was we were constantly traveling. She attended the class in the Dallas area which was a six months course. She also participated in the ones in Shreveport, Louisiana. We don't live near Dallas or Shreveport. She's more confident in modeling and makeup now. I was a little concerned, though, because it seemed the process we were going through was repetitive. We weren't getting any results but we were constantly paying money. But we're going to the PTD and hopefully, we can pick up some stuff from that experience. Overall, it's been an interesting experience.

All of her classes were good. She had to miss one but she was able to make it up because they excused the absence. My daughter's now more outgoing and has a lot of confidence in herself. She just gets up on the stage and does what she has to. She was included in Passport to Discovery but that had to be pushed back because of her personal reasons. She will also do an event in December.

We walked by a mall kiosk and saw Barbizon. We looked at it and we decided that we should wait a little while. And then we got some email and we auditioned for something. When we went through the introduction part, I’m taking all of the glamour and the opportunity to become a star out of the equation because we’re very realistic. That’s not going to be the case for everybody. But I saw a lot of skills that I thought would help my daughter grow as an adolescent, 13 year-old girl. This will teach her some skills that I, a full-time single dad, can’t teach her. It would be a good self-esteem boost and it would give her social interactions. It would teach her some skills that she would be able to take with her for the rest of her life such as how to speak publicly, how to command an audience, how to walk into a room and take over without being aggressive or egotistical.
When I did my research online, Barbizon was one of the oldest and most established. I looked at a lot of parent reviews and some of them I can definitely agree with now but didn’t see them at the time but everyone had the same negative reviews. I think we went with Barbizon because of its reliability or longevity. Signing up on the other hand was a different story. I don’t like the way they operate. When I hear from them, whether it’s a phone call or something in the mail, it is completely a high-pressure sales environment. It is just absolutely insane and they package it up wonderfully. They make sure they present it to the kid and they tell us how much it’s going to cost. However, the pricing is not worth the product. It's absolutely ridiculous. I understand that they’re in business to make money but it’s the dirtiest form of marketing I have ever seen.
They put a kid and their parent in the same room. They advertise the most amazing thing that the kid could think of and they get them hooked into it. Now that mom and dad are on the spot, they tell them how much it costs. So I started telling them no because we got pressured into committing to a cruise that costs $7000. I’m not letting a group of strangers take my 14-year old daughter to the Caribbean without me being present. So they justify it with all expenses paid resort or cruise and everything covered for 2500 bucks and explain to me where the rest of that money comes from and that they'd be auditioning and trying out in front of all of the people that would connect them with placement and get them jobs in the area that they’re looking for. That’s not worth five grand! I can go to a placement agency and pay $1000 retainer and they will search the exact same thing.
But I got suckered into it because they sold it to my kid and I’m picking the bill up for it because I saw how badly she wanted it. I like what they taught my daughter for the personal development, hygiene, hair, makeup, poise, posture, how to speak publicly and how to capture an audience and keep them. I like that the fact that we’ve signed up for this cruise and was committed to it is forcing her to step more out of her shell and she’s developing some of the skills that she’d need as far as trying to be successful during the audition portion of it. But I hate the way they do business. Now I see what other parents were writing the negative reviews about. They were talking about it being a high-pressure environment and it really is. I won’t recommend them to anybody.
It looks like they’ve had the most success with high fashion, which, my daughter is never going to be because that’s not her thing. She doesn’t have the height or anything that's needed to be successful in that field but she’s interested in acting and singing. So she could be successful. Barbizon’s not going to be what makes her successful. So I would give an honest review and just say be prepared to sit down, hear a wonderful story, have your kid get hooked into it. Your kid is sold on it, wants it and you’ve got to make it happen or you’re going to break their heart and be the worst parent ever. Or you’re going to shell out five or six grand for something that is worth maybe $1500 or two grand.
They’re in the business to make money and there’s a reason they’ve been successful for 130 years. It’s because of the sales approach they take. It’s just downright dirty sales and marketing. If I was an investor, I’d be thrilled. But as a parent, by the time you realize what you’ve been suckered into, it’s too late. All you can do is stop the damage from happening again. Other people may have more disposal income than I do. And I understand that it’s going to take a huge investment on the part of the parents in order for their kid to be potentially become successful as whatever. Bottom line, they didn’t lie to me and they didn’t do anything wrong. I would’ve been the worst father on the planet but I could’ve said no.

The audition process was really good and through the classes, the staff were really nice. They came to me one time when Acacia was a little discouraged. They kept me in the loop about everything.
Ever since then, they let us know when there are auditions - like that time when Acacia auditioned to go on the Passport to Discovery and the Dallas competition. They were also upfront about the pricing. Whenever we had a questions, we could just call and they'd be more than willing to help us. We've been totally happy with them so far. We heard about Barbizon through a friend but put it off for two years. My daughter, Sarah, wanted to do it so we finally broke down and saved enough money to get her into it. She always wanted to do some kind of acting or modeling so it came at a good time because we needed it for her. I also felt that they were safe and I heard a lot of good things about the positiveness of the girls. We had a lot of information when we signed her up and it was an easy process. They made us feel welcome not pressured and made the parents feel like we can have trust in them that our child is not being hurt because you have to be careful what kind of organizations you put your child in and make sure they're not predators. I also like the way they talk to the girls and lift them up. It didn't matter how big, small, short, or tall the girls were. They found something good in all of them.
They offered her working positions at the mall and she loved doing that because it was close to our house and she could be there on time. She worked there about four times and this one lady who worked for Barbizon would take some of Sarah's references and give it to the other girl. She didn't like that and said "Mommy, I'm working hard and she's giving mine away." So I told her that she has to be a team player. It taught her a lot of things and she got friends that she still associate with. She also had her one on one outings with some of the girls there and they motivated each other. I think a lot of the girls were having the same problem with Sarah and it's so much bullying. But about them being in Barbizon they didn't have that and it felt like they can be themselves.
She also went through the training then we went to a seminar to get on a boat. They were really nice there where she had to perform and do a short commercial. Then she learned about poise, how to put her make up on and how to walk with heels and certain types of walks that she walks. It all carries on now with how she dresses for the prom and when she goes to the homecoming. It helped her self-esteem because she thought that something was wrong with her. She didn't understand why people gravitated towards her and why they let her down. It was basically a daughter jealousy so now she recognizes that she doesn't have to be perfect but she has to be herself more. So she kind of started standing up for herself instead of letting people walk over her.
I also like that they pull out the best in you like if you know how to sing or to dance. But my daughter didn't have all of those skills and I didn't put her in there to become a professional model because she's going to be a doctor. However, it helped her to achieve what she needed at that time and it also helped her to be a friend. I met a lot of mothers too, some of them were nice and some were not so nice. But I met some mothers who seem to have the same interest that I had as to why they put their daughter in there. So that was kind of cool and it was like a support group.
When I was shopping at Southland Mall in Michigan with Sarah, I saw the people out there for Barbizon. I walked up to the young men and told them that my daughter just graduated from there. But he looked like he didn't believe me so when I came back I told him I'm going to go get my daughter who was in another store. When he saw Sarah, they talked and he asked her if she wanted to come work there the next day. Sarah said yes and he let her come and she worked Saturday and Sunday. I thought that was really nice. I always talk about Barbizon and it was a good experience with me. I recommend it to everyone.

My daughter was called to come into the NYC location. She was accepted and she was thrilled. Was told to come the following day for head shots. We were not informed that this would be her first class. She was supposed to have hair/make up done for the shots. Was only given lip gloss and hair brushed. The kids in her group were very distracting and she told me this wasn't a happy experience. After signing the contract, we found out the classes were on Saturday and Sunday. This wasn't feasible since we didn't live in the city and had other children. I called Monday to cancel as I was informed I had 3 days to cancel. They refuse to give me my registration fee of $990 back since they claim she had a first class. This is not a little bit of money for people trying to make ends meet. I get the runaround and am very upset for my daughter more than anyone else.

They have brought her out and showed her abilities and confidence in herself. Now, she’s got better posture. They taught her how to act, how to pose, formal dining and stuff like that, and that has helped her. That’s a wonderful thing to see as a teenager and she’s just beaming more now. During training, Barbizon was always available to answer questions. I also like the way they keep us up-to-date.

My older daughter was with her daughter and my younger daughter at the mall and they signed up for something at the mall. Barbizon called and said that they had chosen my younger daughter. We went in, sat through their seminar and listened to everything that they had to say and it sounded like a good deal. My daughter liked the atmosphere and the people that she met there and she knew some of the girls from around town that were going to sign up also. The staff is also very nice and helpful. When there was a mix-up and I called them about it, they didn’t hold that against my daughter or me and sent her another invitation out. They were very understanding. Every time I took her to her classes, they were very courteous.
I’m not ever comfortable leaving my children with anybody, but I was very comfortable leaving her at Barbizon. It was a very pleasant atmosphere. All the classes were in a very nice motel and there were lots of girls there, not just a handful. They had three different classes at the time that they went, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. She is not an early morning riser and had to be at her classes at 9 o’clock in the morning, and didn’t mind getting up and going. She's a little shy and that was another reason I wanted to put her in it, to get her to be more outgoing around people. She did all the classes and did one event where she went to try to get qualified for the cruise. She picked up on how to do French poses and has tried to tell us what's the correct way to do them. The only thing is that when they are in the beginning orientation of class, they can go more in detail of how far for the parents to know exactly what they want the kids to do instead of the kids explaining what needs to be done. But if we had questions, I will call and they will help us.

My daughter is participating in Barbizon's program and she loves it. Since we started with the orientation and her getting selected and the whole way the process went, everybody has been very friendly and understanding. She hasn't completed it, but it's been amazing for her but more for me being a supportive parent. I have to do the driving, signing up and speaking to people because she's not 18 yet. The people at Barbizon have been very cooperative with me and work with me with everything I need to do. Anything that I didn't understand or wasn't sure about, they were very good at keeping in contact and explaining it with me by responding to emails, text messages or voicemails. They were very helpful through the whole process.
Barbizon has given my daughter a lot of confidence and it’s teaching her how to be independent but self-sufficient. She just became a freshman in high school, and it's helping with peer pressure, insecurities, and things that a lot of teenagers deal with. It helped her be very sure of herself. It's teaching her how to stand properly and walk, and given all of that, it comes in handy as she becomes a young lady. We teach our children a lot, but there are certain things in the world that they don't get exposed to. I'm only one person and do the best I can, but can't touch every single base, so Barbizon stepped in and touched those areas that I may have missed, not knowing that they might have been important, which they are when one is growing up.
They are helping my daughter with being assured to be able to talk to people. She's okay with expressing in front of crowds, but didn't really like to do it before. It has really been a great impact on her overall as far as her personality and confidence go. I'm a really big advocate in reaching more children and encouraging more parents to know that this is a great supportive group. There’s a lot more to it than modeling and they teach these girls a lot.

It impressed me that she took a genuine interest in the selection process, which I thought was pretty wild. She was actually the one who selected my daughter and convinced me. They helped me out with getting the reduced tuition because I’m a single father working at a minimum wage job. There were some things that went on that I didn’t understand as far as paying the tuition but they worked it out with me and let me know what had happened.
I wish that Barbizon was more upfront about the cost in the very beginning, whenever they’re trying to get you interested, where they let us know their rate and if we get to go to the future competitions, we would have to pay for those as well. Barbizon's staff has been very good and were very professional. Having all of them is perfect and they’ve done a good job. I’ve known about Barbizon for years but we found out about them when my daughter was walking on the street with her grandmother. My daughter is already very involved in musical theater arts programs and Barbizon seemed like a natural extension. I hadn’t really gone out looking to join them so they came to us. They seemed a good fit for us at the time with our schedule and the signing up process was easy. It was definitely a sales pitch, but it was simple. Although, there’s a couple of things I wish were a little easier but it’s been good for us for the most part.
There was the sales pitch aspect that seemed, “Oh, at the end of this, your child would definitely be a star.” And they showed a lot of stuff regarding, “Oh, she could be in commercials.” But I went into it knowing that their pitch wasn’t the case and we’re not necessarily gonna strike gold. I went into it as a wonderful development tool for my daughter and not necessarily her being the next teenage model. I knew that upfront and so I didn’t expect a lot at the end because I knew that it was more for her personal development.
My daughter has always been outgoing. She’s done all of her classes for the modeling, the public speaking, impromptu, and the theater arts program. She hasn’t gotten any professional job, but as far as her being able to get up in front of a group of people, it helped with her self-confidence. I was hoping to get a little bit more of a response once we graduated but it’s very few and far between. Yet it’s helped her in her personal life and other areas like classroom presentations and acting in local plays.

My son is a guitar player in an upcoming band in Orange County, and he couldn’t look at people in the eye because he was too shy. That’s the reason I put him in and then my daughter wanted to learn about nutrition.
They were with Barbizon a year and half. Then they went to the IMTA Convention in L.A. My son won a songwriting competition this year in January and his band is playing at the IMTA in New York in July. My daughter placed fourth overall Junior Model of the Year and was selected to model clothes for a fashion designer at the IMTA. She also did runway walking for L.A. Fashion Week for two different designers. They both placed in swimsuits and jeans. My daughter has two agencies, Peak and The Firm L.A., while my son is with L.A. Models and Brand Model & Talent.

Barbizon has a stall up in one of the malls where we live, so we went in. My son has always wanted to become a little actor. He also loves to dance and to sing. Signing up was very easy, and everything is wonderful. There were multiple classes for modeling and acting and he did both. And he can still go and take refresher classes until the age of 12 years old, which I really like. I like their teachers and their time schedules. The person who runs Barbizon is wonderful. Plus, they’ve helped us find agents. My son has done a couple of things. The little guy learned how to be confident on stage. He also learned how to think and I believe by putting all these skills by Barbizon, he was able to carry them.

I was 15 then and I have never really done anything before. I’ve always wanted to do personal development ever since I can remember. Barbizon was the first one I had ever heard of so I brought it to my mom and she did a bunch of research. We decided to go to the orientation to see what it was about, and we went through with it. Signing up with them was easy but it was expensive. We had to do some budgeting around it. Nevertheless, it gave me all the insider info and really helped me grow and learn what the business is about. However, it was more geared towards modeling, and I’m more of an actress, but it was still very helpful and it got me a good start. It was fun, exciting, informative and it gave me everything I needed to start. I don’t think I’d be where I am without Barbizon. Through them, I went to IMTA and that’s where I got my manager. And since then, I’ve taken acting classes.

I used to be in Barbizon and my daughter wanted to do the same thing too. I’ve been told by a lot of people that my daughter is a very pretty person and she should get into modeling. I want her more out there to interact with people so I signed her up with Barbizon and they've been very professional and friendly. I love it that there is always someone there that I can speak to with no problems. I also like how Barbizon's classes are broken down and the way they train for walking, make-up and photo shoot. Also, my daughter just went through a cruise. They always keep me informed, get a hold of me through email and they’re very responsible. Barbizon has the best training and is the best schooling I’ve ever experienced.

We were walking at the mall and one of the girls from Barbizon approached my daughter. I got my daughter into personal development before when she was only five because she wanted to, but it backfired. Smaller kids had to face all those huge convention and she got scared. She did her monologue the first time, which was in a room, but the second time was in front of all the people and she panicked. She didn't do it and didn't get picked by agents.
I signed her up with Barbizon and they were very accommodating, well organized and explained the whole process. I'm always talking to Dan and he’s very good. The manager is awesome and cool too. Now that my daughter went through the whole process with Barbizon for the whole year, she's very confident and ready. I don't see any nervousness, and I think it was because she just needed that push and training.
I like the showcase that they did. After the kids graduate, they would have this showcase with the management and agency. It was good because they would show how the kids were doing and what they went through with the whole program. My daughter's been going on auditions. She had one last Tuesday and had a call back today, which we're going to go. It’s just too bad that not everybody gets signed like one of her friends. Right now my daughter is taking advance class on Mondays. Some of her classmates from school go to Barbizon too.

Our daughter has been into personal development for some time and we never took the next step, so we figured it was time to sign her up when Barbizon came up to her at the mall. We also felt comfortable with the lady that we worked with and the staff inside of the Diamond Bar location. You have to be willing to know and trust them, and having our daughter there with strangers was our biggest concern and they made it easier. Our daughter really enjoyed the acting and the monologues. She wasn’t a big fan of the modeling portion of it, but it came with the package.
When she graduated from Barbizon, she had 5 offers to get signed with different agents. Barbizon definitely brought her comfort level of speaking in public and she's done really well. We enjoyed our experience with Barbizon. We really enjoyed working with the teachers and the staff. For us, it worked out well and we have sent people there without promising anything like this is going to happen to their son or daughter. I'm happy to have participated in Barbizon.

My daughter always wanted to do modeling and acting, so when the opportunity with Barbizon came up, we pursued it and everything seemed to play out accordingly. She's a little actress and it was a good fit for her. I couldn’t pass up this opportunity for her. Signing up was very easy. With regard to the payment, you could pay a lump sum or do it over time, so it's very convenient if somebody’s strapped financially. I didn’t encounter any issues.
My daughter has always been outgoing. When she puts her mind to something, she can do it. During graduation, there's a little fashion show and she was very happy with the number of agents that were interested in her. She's been on several auditions and she got to sing in one of the Conan Shows over Christmas. Seeing that, it makes her want to work harder when it becomes a reality.

For a good portion of the students and parents involved, this school is great. That portion usually consists of wealthy families and kids with social problems. And, I have seen first hand some great stuff happening with the kids, with confidence issues or money. I am a student of Barbizon who has one more class to graduate. Personally it's been both good and bad. My teacher was awesome! She was super bubbly and overall a great figure. I did learn model stances and I had teachers review my work, which was great, but since I am an older teenager I already know most of what I learned. Maybe I just don't know how money works, but the materials we used really didn't seem to add up to the price that I paid.
On top of that the auditions for the competitions they have seem a little out worldly cost-wise as well. The cruise I can understand being so expensive, but my recent experience with the Dallas Competition was kind of bogus. They want me to pay the exact amount it would've cost me to go on the cruise, which is $995, to go to a city that is 20 minutes away from me. I did the audition because they said many people find the Dallas comp more convenient than the cruise, then learned it had the same price afterward. I was selected to go to the Dallas Comp, but was skeptical of the price. I'm a young adult trying to wean off her parents and I'm about to go to college. My parents can't spend cash out the wazoo because I have 3 younger siblings they have to take care of.
I kept telling Barbizon I couldn't pay for it, but they kept insisting that they could help me spread out the pricing, which is nice... But, I felt guilty for just not telling them a firm no because of their insistence. I've tried to make it work, but all in all I just couldn't pay it. They gave me a $200 scholarship to try to convince me and when I told them I just CANNOT make it work. The lady kept saying, "I'm so sorry to hear that you just cannot make it work even though we gave you a $200 scholarship..." She said that twice and it so drippingly sarcastic. When you agree to what they say, they are super nice, otherwise they become short with you and start to sound indifferent.
In order for my mom not to call them and blow up on them because they keep pressuring us to spend so much money to go see some agents, which you should never have to do by the way, I volunteered to put my very honest personal experience on here for all to see. They might say the $995 isn't to audition in front of the judges, but that it is for the workshops. But, it just doesn't make sense that it's the exact same price to either go on a 4-day workshop audition cruise or go on a 2-day trip half an hour trip from my house to most likely do less workshops overall.
If this place wants their girls to be polite and to be nice even in a stressful situation, then they shouldn't be hypocrites and start to lose their interest when they can't make a buck, and they should most certainly not make their students feel like they HAVE to pay money they don't have because they did a couple minutes of work looking at a calendar to see if they make it a little easier to still pay so much money overall. Barbizon is good for some, but please don't feel pressured. Spending $995 is not the only way to get seen for talent. Especially when there is no guarantee an agent will actually pick you after spending that amount. Like I said, this is my personal experience, and yes some of it was all good and fun. I just don't like the fact that I need to pay money I don't have to be respected.
Hi Rachel, Thank you for sharing that you enjoyed your classes and teacher and have seen such positive effects of the program on other students. We’ll be sure to share your review with the local school. Regarding the opportunities outside of the Barbizon program, they are not required to graduate or to begin working in the modeling and acting industries. They are, however, opportunities to get in front of a large number of industry professionals and compete in a way that is more tangible than paper submissions. No one is required to participate in these events and we apologize if you felt pressured during any part of the registration process. Not every student is given the chance to take advantage of a scholarship but if you are unable to attend you are able to cancel by adhering to the cancellation policy. If you have any additional feedback on this experience we would be happy to answer any questions you may have and clarify the difference in price and what is included for different graduate opportunities if you contact us at barbizon@barbizonmodeling.com.

When we were in the mall, we passed a booth with some young children, males and females, talking about modeling and handing out some Barbizon flyers and offering people to sign up if they were interested. My daughter is outspoken and she likes different things in drama setting, acting and singing and I thought it would be good for her growth and development so we signed up with them. She participated in the basic acting and modeling program. When we signed her up, everything went smoothly. We received a phone call stating that she was selected for an audition, so we went to the audition. There was more one-on-one, speaking with someone after the initial presentation. Then, we were told we’d be receiving a call back. And she was selected in the final round. And from there, she joined the course. It was an easy process. Their staff was great and everyone was polite.
My child needs to go back though for some more training. But it definitely helped open her eyes to things that she’s interested in in terms of acting. And she can see the things that take place when making movies or shows or anything related to that profession. She really enjoyed making friends and learning different things. Being in class with females of different ages helped her get a different aspect on the different age groups and how they perform. So she got some extra experience in that. It’s very rewarding for my daughter to learn the skills that she has learned.

My daughter finished the art classes and she's going to the Passport to Discovery in October. She’s now a little more open. She's still shy but she's getting better.
I like dealing with Barbizon. Placement division have called me and said that some people are interested with my daughter. But I don't know what's going on as I haven't heard anything if they've received what I sent. There's only one issue that I have with Barbizon. Every time my daughter did anything that had to do with photography, the parents were not allowed to see. They told us that they were going to put the pictures they took of our kids on their website. I looked and still couldn't see anything. Aside from that, it's been amazing.

Hi Sheri, Thank you for providing a review of your daughter's experience. We hope that she was able to gain some industry insight from the training program she completed. Though it looks like she requested her placement package from the local school, it does not look like she ever enrolled in the placement program by returning her model card. If she does this, she will be eligible to receive additional notifications of modeling and acting opportunities in your area. Additionally, she should have received a list of agencies and managers in her package. If she is interested in pursuing additional opportunities, submitting to these agencies would help her continue on her path to working in the industry. If you reach out to your local school, they would be happy to answer any other questions you may have about the opportunities available to your daughter. She can also let her local school know if she is not interested in working promotional modeling and they can adjust her record. Thank you again.

Then with Barbizon, initially, we really saw nothing out of it as far as benefits for our child. We were skittish, but they worked with us. I felt better about their view on the importance of school and grades and not just focusing on what it was that they needed us to do. Barbizon definitely helped my child's self-confidence and helped her in taking good care of herself. We've had some things that they’ve corrected such as some fashion modeling, and at the same time, it's given her a lot of experience as far as getting up in front of people and not feeling paranoid. It was a very good experience and they still keep in contact with people when they're no longer with them. And so we've recommended Barbizon to others.

I’ve known about Barbizon since I was a child and knew it was a good thing. I remember seeing them in magazines way back when so I knew about their reputation. I have twin daughters and when they were in middle school, I knew it would be a good thing for them to have good self-esteem to get through middle school years. So I signed them up with Barbizon, and it was very easy. The gal who did the orientation and spoke to us was very knowledgeable and did a wonderful job. In fact, the people at Barbizon, my daughters and I are a family. Everybody that I work with is wonderful. I did so many different things with them, and I’d call myself a middle school survivor mom with twin daughters who both made it through. They had a lot of self-confidence and they did not succumb to a lot of peer pressure because of the other's self-confidence.
Barbizon is a wonderful company that is boosting young ladies and gentlemen, providing opportunities for them to expand their education outside a regular school education with the self-confidence of being able to speak well, walk well, and interview well. It’s not only about acting and modeling. It’s about becoming an overall confident person. The Barbizon girls I know even interview well for jobs after they graduate from Barbizon school because they have terrific speaking abilities.

My child did a National American Miss Pageant and started getting postcards for Barbizon, so we acted on one of the postcards and went to Barbizon's audition. She was always taller than the rest of the girls and everybody goes, "Maybe you should model." But she was quiet and passive. That's when I put her in NAM and then we went forward from there once she gained a little more confidence. Then she was able to go into Barbizon and she's been going ever since. We went to their workshop once and we love what we heard about Barbizon and how the girls can move forward in their career: modeling, acting, and all different types of things that she could do with that type of experience.
We were trying to get the direct deposit for signing up at Barbizon. At first, that was difficult but once we got the first month down, signing up has been easy from there. She did all her classes in Birmingham and went on the Passport to Discovery cruise. I became one of the bus moms and liked interacting with the girls, talking about makeup, hair and shoes, which are all my favorite things. It was actually a good decision to be one of the bus moms.
Once she graduated from Barbizon and went to the Passport to Discovery, she signed on with a modeling agency. She's been working with them ever since. She's on hair shows and runways and she's done a family commercial. Modeling really enhanced her, including her social skills, self-development, and the way she talks and walks. Plus, she's more cautious of her environment, adapting to her environment and more professional when she's somewhere in public - it really gave her growth. From the beginning to the end, the growth that my child and the girls get out of it was phenomenal. I see her growth every day and hear it in her conversations with her friends. I notice the way that she carries herself. So the overall experience was exceptional. Barbizon wasn't only for modeling; it was for life.

But I absolutely love my Passport to Discovery ambassador. He’s so fantastic. I also love the woman I worked with when I was at the promotional event. They were friendly, helpful and encouraging.
I already auditioned to one of the high-fashion modeling agent about the expanding full-figure model world, which is very exciting. I got to express my views on it and talk about how I wanted Barbizon to encourage girls more to be comfortable with these things like bikini competitions. My mom was really happy I got to do it. I just got offered and talking with an agency in New Jersey on a contract. I got introduced to a scout for the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts which eventually gave me a scholarship and I’m entering finals week for my first year at this school.
I always had a lot of confidence when I was younger, but I got sick and lost a lot of it. Barbizon brought it back. I speak in front of crowds much better than I had even though I was already very good at it. It definitely set my life in a totally different better direction. Barbizon can help girls come out of their shells and be who they are. I recommend them all the time.

A couple of years ago, at a mall, my cousin pushed me into signing up at a Barbizon booth. So I signed up and then they called me a year later, and I completely forgot about it. And I said, "Okay, I guess I'll just audition anyway." I did it, got more information about them. I met Ms. Joey from Florida and then I started my training. Many things have changed and happened.
Every person that I've come into contact with affiliated with Barbizon has been so supportive, encouraging and informative. I've learned so much. Ms. Dinah was my director. Ms. Dinah is such an awesome director. She talked to me on the side, asking me if I had any questions. I also had Ms. Kelly as one of my teachers. I've gotten really close to Mr. Dale because of PTD and he's really awesome. They know me on a personal level, in terms of the things that I'm involved in. They make me and my family feel that they care about trying to reach my success and my dreams. I had the opportunity to intern (I was working with Ms. Dinah), so it was really cool having school there and then helping out after. The staff is just completely incredible.
I did not know anything about modeling prior to this. I've learned so much about the runway. I learned acting a little bit, but mainly I learned a lot more about the industry. Barbizon has done so much for me and it's only been a year. Barbizon has helped me go farther in my career. The competition was a huge jumpstart to everything and I just blossomed in terms of opportunity and exposure. It's just crazy how far I've come. I've recommended Barbizon to every single person I have come in contact with, which is also cool too because I get benefits for signing other people up. I think it's good investment. Not only is it life-long, I've seen it change other girls too. I think that Barbizon deserves every credit out there.

She’s not interested in acting or modeling and only went along with her sister. The other one was very interested. I told Barbizon that I wanted them to go together but I can't afford for both of my girls. Barbizon gave one of my daughters a scholarship and both of them were able to go together. It's one of the reasons why I love Barbizon.
All the staff had been professional and topnotch including the teacher that they had and everybody from the Passport to Discovery. They hone people to a high standard that’s why I’m impressed. She filled out something and then they called her. It was an easy process. We signed up and even signed the contract for her to do the last invite. It's been really great with their staff. They've been very helpful. We decided to sign her up into Barbizon for confidence and self-esteem, and because Sarah's tall and pretty and likes to do makeup and hair.
So Sarah did a class with Barbizon. She has one more she has to finish, but she's done the DC competition several times and the Passport to Discovery two times. That's an awesome experience from all the different ages, to kids that go compete and watch all the different kids grow themselves. I've had some friends whose children have gone through it and so our whole family's gonna go work it in this coming October. Sarah's also worked a few weeks in for Dale, the regional director around here. She's done some modeling around the area. She's in wedding dresses and she's also been involved the Virginia Miss America pageant, and I can tell when she walks on the stage that she has learned a lot from Barbizon. Barbizon was having local tryouts. My daughter, Sarah, went in and did well so we decided to give it a shot. Signing her up with Barbizon was disappointing because the only time we ever heard from Barbizon regarding anything for Sarah is when something that has a price tag attached to it and they try to see if I can spend a little bit more. The only thing that Sarah has done since graduation last year was when she did an extra as a part in a movie filming here in Rhode Island and I got her that opportunity from where I work at and didn't even come from Barbizon.
Sarah requested the placement package when she graduated and we never received it. Then they asked us to go to the audition where this agent was, and so we brought her to the audition which didn’t cost anything, but then they said that she's been selected, but there's only 50 places and there were 150 kids, and it's first come, first served for $995. I feel like a cash cow with them and I have no confidence in them at all.
My daughter have gone through their entire curriculum and graduate, but there's something wrong with the way the kids are being taught or they're just not teaching them, then they don't allow parents in there because that could be distracting to the students. We've been told that she can retake any course at no charge and I've been thinking about talking to my husband to see if we should send her back through. But, she no longer goes to school looking like a raccoon. They did teach her some of the rudiments of makeup application and some about fashion. We went into it with the thought that she needs to learn self-confidence, poise and manners. She went to every single class and she did learn some things, but I do not think that they carried through what they committed at their end of the bargain.
Hi Leslie, Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback regarding your daughter’s Barbizon experience. We are happy to hear that she benefited from the makeup application portion of the program. A large aspect of the program does focus on self-confidence and poise. We would like to hear more of your feedback about the program and what you feel could be improved. We always strive to make sure the program is inclusive of and focused on personal development above and beyond just the modeling and acting portion of the training and if you have any specific insights on your experience with this part of the program, we would appreciate receiving them so that we can provide them to the local school for review.
It looks like your daughter requested and was sent a placement package on March 8. Have you not received this yet? We would be happy to ask the local school to resend you another package if not. Once your daughter receives this, she will need to fill out the placement card and send it back to your local school so that she can receive notifications of modeling and acting opportunities in your local area as they become available.
If you daughter was selected as a possible candidate for additional industry exposure, she may have been invited to attend an audition for a competition with an agent to assess her potential within the industry. Competitions are above and beyond the scope of the modeling and acting program at Barbizon. While they are a good way to gain exposure to national managers and agents in the industry, they are not a requirement to take advantage of the free graduate support services at your local school.
If you have any additional questions or need any additional information, please reach out to us at barbizon@barbizonmodeling.com. We would appreciate the opportunity to further discuss your experience and assist in any way that we can.

Barbizon seemed credible as an agency during the introduction session. So we signed up with them and the process was easy. I communicated with them mostly via telephone and email and it was good. The program helped my daughter a little bit, I did see a change in her. The one thing that I had an issue with was the distance. We had to travel to the location they fixed for the classes. That was one of the things that was kind of exhausting. But other than that, it was a good experience for my daughter to go through. That way she was able to see if she was really thinking of pursuing modeling or acting.

It was easy signing up with Barbizon. They were very helpful because I was concerned about money and they did everything they could to work it out and give me the best so it was awesome. They made expectations clear, were super friendly, and made me feel welcome. I had a good experience with Barbizon. It built me up as a person which is really nice. I’m more knowledgeable in the modeling and acting fields now.

I had a 13-year-old several years back that participated in modeling and career advancing classes at Barbizon and all of it was quite pleasant and professional. The staff were very good and on-point. A lot of different agents were all in one accord in the way they represented the company and directed and edified my 13-year-old. I was quite pleased with that. The program helped her branch out more than where she was, and we looked at it as a positive thing. They were consistent and good role models. It was a good experience and we’ll recommend for sure.

My daughter’s friend who was enrolled in the classes referred Barbizon to my daughter. My daughter then applied and auditioned for the classes. She attended a couple of auditions and now she’s selected to go on a cruise in October. There was a big gathering that all the parents and their children went into at the local hotel. It was an all-day event. They’re very good at what they do, and they got us all hyped up and excited. I was concerned that my daughter is a minor, and I wanted to make sure they had all their checks and balances in place. It looks like they have so I’m not worried about that anymore.
The classes were very good, and even if she doesn’t take the path in acting or modeling, the classes cover a lot of things that could definitely help her personality. It definitely boosted her confidence and taught her manners. She was already mannerly but they teach other life skills like how to put the resume together and how to present herself. They’re giving all these things that she could use outside of the modeling and throughout her life. The way they present everything is organized. We are always informed about any of that through newsletters or updates. If they have a confirmation for the audition, they make sure that they follow-up with an email and a phone call, so I have been very happy with the experience. Their classes and auditions are not cheap, and I like that they have options for alternate payments and discounts. Also, they are always very nice and professional about everything. The experience overall is very good.

My daughter loves being on the stage, so I gave her a chance to learn something more. I received a phone call from Barbizon and she got selected after the audition. Signing up my child with them wasn't difficult. It was all step-by-step and everything went smoothly. Everyone was nice, helping for everything, and answered all my questions when I was calling them. My daughter enjoyed the modeling and acting classes and she's more confident now and better than before.

My daughter Mackenzie really wanted to do it when she heard on the radio, "Do you want to be a model? Do you want to be a Disney star?" so we went to a Barbizon audition but we heard it was an acting school, so we didn't sign up. Two years later, Barbizon contacted us and sold us during their pitch about how one needs to learn how to be a model. Once we realized that one needs to learn the tools, that's when I decided Mackenzie needed Barbizon. I was upfront and honest that I can't afford the full price and they were willing to work with us and we came to an agreement. My mom helped pay for the classes so my daughter was able to attend them and we made sure we finished their book at the end. We didn’t miss a single class and worked really hard.
Now, we had to make a decision whether or not to go on their cruise. She auditioned for it and got accepted but it's not in our budget right now so we passed on it. She did get an opportunity to be in a fashion show on April 11th for a nonprofit charity event for senior services. They have the state senators and models sometimes, and local DJs from our radio station. She's going to model in that show so we're excited about that. I know we haven't finished all of her headshots and I haven't finished filling out the papers that we need to send back to Barbizon but once we work that out, then we decide on an agency. It's a great experience with Barbizon but we haven't fully decided how far we want to go with all of these.

My daughter was interested in modeling and acting class, so she signed up for Barbizon when she was in a mall and attended the whole six-month class with them. She enjoyed the class, but signing up was a bit expensive. They said she was getting a discount but it wasn't quite the discount the way that they said it was but the cost ended up being a little bit more because of the installment plan.
Moreover, she recently got selected for the Passport to Discovery, which is another kind of gimmick to get more money out of us, which I don't like. Their employees said, “Okay. You don't have to incur any additional expenses while she goes to the class. You can come back and do this and that." But then they want to charge me three times the amount to go on a cruise for her to be exposed to all of these different people in the industry - it's more money out of my pockets that I can't afford. They were supposed to give her the amount of money to get her in the program and there should be a little bit more help out of it than what it is for us to pay.
Hi Patrice, Thank you providing feedback on your experience with Barbizon and we are happy that your daughter enjoyed her classes. Regarding Passport to Discovery, the competition event is an additional opportunity for your daughter however it is not a gimmick or a requirement to gain access to the industry. As you noted was mentioned during the audition, it’s a good way to gain exposure to many different industry professionals, but it is an opportunity that is outside of the scope of the original modeling and acting program that your daughter enrolled in. However, the placement program is a wonderful, no cost opportunity for your daughter as a graduate in your local area. It looks like your daughter requested her placement package which gives her access to contact information for agents and managers should she choose to begin the submission process to try and gain representation on her own. We have not received the required enrollment card back from her though. This is another important aspect of the free program that will enroll your daughter for notifications from her local school when modeling and acting opportunities come up in your area. If you have any additional questions or feedback, please send an email to barbizon@barbizonmodeling.com or feel free to reach out to your local school directly and we would be happy to assist.

My wife dragged me to a modeling audition with Barbizon for our 10 yr old daughter. I was apprehensive and hesitant. However, I was pleasantly surprised. We listened to a very interesting speaker that excited my daughter and impressed me with how truthful she was. We then had an interview with a talent scout, and although rather short, she mentioned that she had been watching my daughter since she checked us in at the reception area. They were concerned about her grades as well as her shyness. I had never seen my daughter that excited and verbal during our ride home. She was waiting for a call all night to see if she had been accepted into Barbizon.
The next day we got the call and my daughter jumped up and down. We registered her for training since she had no previous experience. I must say that all was explained to my wife and I very thoroughly. All our questions were answered even when I came up with tough ones. My daughter loved her classes and this shy little girl slowly became much more self-confident. We are excited that she will be graduating soon.

Barbizon made signing up with them pretty easy for us, and they were courteous while we were going through it. It was a six-month course and it was really good for my child. She learned a lot in class, but then they just kind of let her go afterwards. I thought I would get more support or help in what the next steps were. I’ve called a couple of times and really haven’t gotten a whole lot of help. They’ve called me back and they’re like, “You need to fill this out.” And then they wouldn’t send it. I just got it and it was just this little card. I’ve got to fill that out now but it took a while to get it.
Hi Theresa, Thank you for providing feedback. We are happy to hear your daughter enjoyed her classes! The placement program is the next step to help your daughter find opportunities in the industry. Within the package you received, there should have been contact information for reputable agents and managers that your daughter may want to consider submitting to for representation. Additionally, when you return the placement package enrollment card, your daughter will receive notifications of modeling and acting opportunities in your area. If you need any additional information regarding graduate support services, your local school is a valuable resource to reach out to. Thank you again.

My daughter had gone online and submitted an application and a picture to Barbizon. They then contacted us about going to a workshop seminar thing that was close to the house, so we went to the seminar. The talent agents who were there were awesome and very professional. We didn't sign up because I couldn't afford to put her through it at what they were charging, but they called a couple of months later and offered her a full scholarship. She went through the classes and finished up in August. She said a lot of the stuff was helpful and it's like starting anything - you know some things and don't know the others. But she enjoyed the classes and got something out of them.
The Barbizon staff also notified us of what we needed to know. They were very good about making sure that someone was there with her since she's still underage. They did a good job. However, some of the things weren't clarified or maybe we didn't clarify it to them, like they called my daughter for one or two modeling jobs and things were interfering with her schoolwork. I always felt bad saying no. But school comes first and she was disappointed because she couldn't do the modeling jobs. So that was a little difficult. Otherwise everything went well.

My daughter was in 6th grade when she came home and said she wanted to do the Barbizon thing. We auditioned, she got in and did the six-month class. The program has helped her a lot. They taught her how to walk in heels, how to do her make-up, pluck her eyebrow, etc. It helped with her confidence. Then, we competed in Houston four years ago and she won. She was supposed to go to Passport to Discovery because they'll pay 60% of all the expenses but we decided not to go because she would miss school.
We got another audition the next year because we were told we could still use the 60% so, we signed her up. However, the choreographer from New York for her dance was coming the same day we were leaving and we ended up not going again. Last year, we did go. But before that, she went to the Houston competition again and won a lot of stuff so we ended up not paying anything. We're all so excited of what she can be someday. So far, I'm very satisfied. They make a big deal about dress code and what one is supposed to wear and it was not followed at all. The group that my daughter was part of was pretty ghetto. It was just a lot of lip service about being classy. The teachers didn't dress much better either. I was very disappointed. I think corporate should look at that because their staff should be better dressed. You have a bunch of young girls on the staff saying they know it all and they don't. The way they dress wasn't classy - short skirts, skin-tight and low-cut. When I worked in Corporate America, I couldn't dress like that.

Barbizon doesn't have an establishment in Corpus but they brought instructors in when they came and that was great. It's pretty easy signing up for the trials. Their staff were very pleasant especially since they're not local. They try to communicate very regularly via email and phone calls. However, I didn't feel like I could approach the instructors whenever we had to drop off my daughter for her classes because it was for the girls and there weren't parents there.
Their program increased my daughter's confidence so much. My kids were interested in acting and modeling. So we went into the interview with Barbizon to see what it'd be about. I did some research and Barbizon sounded like a good modeling school where kids acquire some good skills. My older daughter got interviewed from Ms. Lee and she chose her right on the spot. And the other one, we didn't really know. So it's alternate and she called, texted us and was phenomenal working with us one on one and a great motivator. I liked that. For my young one, it was more about personal development and gaining some confidence. My older one is more on theater and wants to go on that direction. She went up to the older division while the 9-year old stayed in the younger division. Overall, the sign up process was very easy and stress-free.
The instructor went the extra mile for us and were wonderful motivators for the kids. They gave us their life experiences and what they thought would help the girls out and on what they thought would be best. I took the kids over to Detroit for a makeup session and also to Kalamazoo. The Detroit one didn't run the show as much and it wasn't as strict. The Kalamazoo one was ran really nice and the kids did a good job and enjoyed it. But I especially appreciated East Lansing because it's more disciplined and very organized.
My daughters now have the knowledge on how to secure themselves, some sort of reminders of day-to-day tasks to being a better person. A big part of it was confidence in knowing that you are good enough to continue on and do whatever you want to do. The monologue, I especially like that. Doing it with the intonation and in front of a group. I like also that it's a closed group and that parents aren't in there. They don't watch them and everything is amongst the kids. Sometimes parents can be your worst enemy.
Overall, our experience was very good. One thing that would be nice, because we traveled usually an hour and a half to two hours, would be to have it in a hotel that might be a little bit more easier as possible. And another thing that would be nice is if they could try it on a Friday night or a combo class for both the groups together, or going a long day on a Saturday for certain ones that they could run side by side.

Signing up with Barbizon was a fair process. It was a long day but the staff was good. We just finished in October and its effects on my child are yet to be seen. However, I didn't like the hotel as the area was bad and of all the places in Indianapolis they could have chosen a better place for young women to be going to. There were truck drivers there that would be outside and around and I always felt like I had to be with my daughter. I always made sure that she had someone to walk her back and forth to the restroom because it was a terrible hotel.
I look at it as something to add to her career choices. But when kids do club, basketball or run track, we're there to watch them in practice and see the process ourselves. However, with Barbizon, the parents never got to see what exactly the girls went through. I wasn't even able to talk to my daughter about what she did today so I couldn't tell a friend about my experience with them as a parent.

Barbizon set up an interview and they represented that it would be a one-on-one. When we came, there were 300 people in the room and we had to hear a presentation. They said that we would meet somebody individually. Then they told that they'd notify by the next day if my daughter was accepted, which I thought was interesting and said, "What do you mean? Really?" They said, "But you don't have to wait. We can tell you right now that you're accepted." And I said, "Okay."
We did get through with the program and one of the reasons we went there was for her self-esteem issues as she is hearing impaired and we were not doing it for the modeling. It was a little bit unusual to me to put people between the ages of 8 and 18 together. There's a big maturity level, different makeup, different ways to hold a body between those ages. I was well aware that they indicated they would not guarantee any modeling for anybody. A lot of people are not modeling material anyways, as far as I was concerned. It irritated me sometimes that they have false hopes. But my daughter happens to be pretty attractive so that's why everybody comes up to her and says, "Oh, are you a model?" She is 5'6", 95 pounds at 12 years old, and blonde. However, like any teenagers, she has some body issues and stuff.
So they put us in the morning class. They told me there would be eight persons and there were 30 people in the class. My daughter is ** and 29 of them were **. I complained as my concern was they would talk about makeup and it would make difference on the skin tone and skin texture. But the lady that I spoke to was ** married to a ** man and she didn't understand why I was concerned. We ended up going to the afternoon class and the girl who taught that class actually had cochlear implant. Both her parents are deaf and her sisters are hearing-impaired, so she speaks loud and clear and my daughter could understand her very well.
They were accommodating when I complained that the second class had the same makeup as the first class except for the instructors. They put makeup on my daughter differently and I don't agree with them. They offered me to go to a location in Marietta. They also offered another one which was 45 minutes to an hour. Where we went was about 15-20 minutes away. The composition of the class was a little bit different. I told them, "I don't mind different races. That's fine with me. It just has to be a cross-section of our population." I didn't see any Indian people of any descent, Hispanic descent, nor any other **. It was just **. And unfortunately, a lot of these people shouldn't have been in a location that they were at. They had to travel over an hour to go to their class. That's terrible for them!
Well, we got what we wanted from it, but with some exceptions. There are some things that we didn't like and a lot of misrepresentations. It took six weeks to get the graduation certificate and I had to call for that. Then they said there's a placement package that we're supposed to get. We also called for that as it's not automatically sent. They also said one can retake the class—lifetime and I assumed that meant a person would be 18 years, but when they were talking they said one could be 60 years old and take them. I didn't see that happening. However, it depends what one could go for.
It was also expensive. We paid $2,000 and that's a lot. It comes at about $50 a class; however, there's still classes on each week, four classes each on Saturday and Sunday. We didn't like that it was over a six-month period as opposed to twice a month. And four hours is too long for a session, but they're not going to budge. They also had a pretend sleepover which I thought was stupid and a total waste of money of $50 for that whole weekend program. Their Tampa office were very fast to answer the telephone, as well as secretive. They don't let parents or anybody come in other than the person who's enrolled. If somebody brings a guest and not in their proper attire, they won't let them in either.
My daughter’s going to redo some classes and it wasn't as successful as I wanted to be. Their program doesn't really build on it from lesson to lesson and there's a couple that they have assignments that will carry over for the next month. The only problem is they have different people sometimes coming, and if they weren't at the previous month, then they're at a loss. Overall, it didn't do much for her but I'm not disappointed and didn't think it's a poor program.
At 12, my daughter’s obviously not gonna have it. She wore a lot of makeup before and she's wearing a lot less right now. She stands straighter, can do turns and learned a lot. It’s important that unfortunately, when somebody’s not put together, they lose a lot of respect from everybody around them. It showed her another part of the world. I like it and would recommend them to people. But be aware of the negatives, go there for the right reason.

I had no interest in modeling or acting schools but I said I would go to the information center of Barbizon because my child wanted to. Then I was impressed because they told our kids they're never going to Paris or Milan, just a lower level of professional experience, and a bit emphasis was on professionalism. It was funny, but I was convinced it was worth doing.
The program has been a good opportunity for my daughter. She hasn't done any modeling yet but we hope she will. It increased her confidence about things like public speaking and walking. The Barbizon staff were very good cheerleaders. They emphasized practical things, professionalism and not just modeling, which I like that combination. So it was a very positive experience. The negative part I would have was that I was irritated that we went through a half day info session and then at the end they said it costs $2,000. It should be right up front. I almost didn’t consider it.

Working with Barbizon was awesome. The experience was something I’ve never been exposed to. My child and I learned about them through a friend. We had went to one of them before, but at the time, we didn’t have money to put her in it. So when the time came again, we decided that we were going to go ahead and go through with it. Signing her up was easy, and communicating with the staff at Barbizon was good. They’re courteous and knowledgeable. When they need her to participate in something, they’d call, and we’d talk for a little bit, and that’s good as well. Sitting down with them talking about the classes was fun. She liked the classes, every last one of them.

My child was so excited when I signed her up with Barbizon. She was happy all the time and that made me so happy too. She wanted to prove that she loves this. She's only 10 years old but the way she acts is different. It helped her a lot. She's more confident and her social skills improved. She already graduated from the program and now we're trying to give the teachers what they ask for and we're going to send that up. Hopefully, she gets a job. I want her to go back this summer so she can learn and improve to be a model. Also, everybody at Barbizon were nice and very responsible from beginning to finish.

My child went to Barbizon and we had a very wonderful experience signing up. We chose them over a different modelling school due to availability. Barbizon gave my child a lot more self-confidence. It's also a strong name to have on her portfolio when we say that she's been trained with Barbizon.
