Utilizing GoodHire to run a background check is super easy. The people who work for the company are fantastic too. Every time I had a question there, they had been quick to respond and take care of any of my concerns. GoodHire is straightforward.

I did a Google search on background checks and GoodHire was recommended. Using it is easy. Once you get set up with the account, you go in and type in the person’s name and his/her email address, and then they send a link out to the person. They fill out the background stuff and all these stuff goes on in the background, and then you get a report. It usually takes three days to get them back after I fill out the application, but with the whole lockdown, it has made things take longer because the courthouses have been closed. Still, overall, it is a good service and I am happy with it.

I was reading an article and it led me to GoodHire and another company. We have an operation in Florida and they had contacted a couple of local options. In the corporate office in Virginia, we're not very happy about the way it was presented and we gave GoodHire a try. I like the ease of navigation of their system. You might be a little bit confused the first time when you're filling out the form that says "save or continue", but their team is so good. I've tried all forms. I've called them, emailed them, and we've done chats. It doesn’t matter which method of communication I choose, they are very responsive. There is almost no wait time and they are very knowledgeable. They don’t tell you to call back later nor do they transfer you 20 times. Whoever answers that phone stays with you until the issue is resolved. We are planning to stay with GoodHire and will continue to use them.

The company that I worked with hired 150,000 people a year and all of the employees were put through the screening process. Sterling was a very large vendor of the company I worked with. But the company I'm with now is very small. It’s a boutique firm. GoodHire was referred by ADT and the experience with them was much easier than it was with Sterling. The issue there was with volume.
Utilizing GoodHire was pretty seamless. The initial setup was a bit of a process in terms of getting the company set up. But once that was done, it was excellent. It was easy for the candidate and for me. I enjoyed it as you can enjoy something like that. Customer service was very helpful. They responded to me very quickly and it was a very good experience. The service was excellent and the information was timely. It was very easy to read for a layperson.

It was very simple to set up things with GoodHire. I needed to run something right away and they were honestly the quickest and easiest thing for me. I started my business in January. I have hired 12 people and I've used GoodHire for that process. It's basically just me. So, as a recruiter, it's nice not to have to do the other stuff like running background checks and all the other things that go with hiring someone. It has been very easy to use and it lets me focus on my business. But I'm currently running into some issues at the very moment. I'm not getting something back that I ordered a while ago. But they've been good at communicating with me on these things.

For a potential position, I submitted requests for employment background checks to GoodHire. For the first prior position, I had been promoted 2 times while with the employer. GoodHire only reported the lowest title. Therefore, my new employer thought I misrepresented my titles. When I contacted my former employer, they advised they had provided all of my titles to GoodHire. For the second position, I had been promoted 1 time. Again, GoodHire only reported the lowest title. Therefore, my new employer thought I misrepresented my titles. When I contacted my former employer, they advised they had provided all of my titles to GoodHire.
For the third position, I worked at the company under my maiden name, which I indicated on the form for GoodHire. However, GoodHire completed the employment check under my married name. Therefore, the prior employer stated to GoodHire they had no record of my employment, which GoodHire reflected on my background check. When I checked with the former employer, they stated that Goodhire had provided my married name, but not the maiden name under which I was employed.
For the final two positions, three days after submitting the employment background check to GoodHire, and during the COVID epidemic, GoodHire claimed that they couldn't reach the employer. Therefore, they closed my entire file and sent me an email stating that the file was now complete. I filed disputes for the issues with inaccurate and incomplete information from GoodHire for literally every employer background check requested. I received an email that stated that the disputes take 30 days to complete. Therefore, I lost the employment opportunity which needed to begin within 2 weeks.

Good Hire went way beyond the limits of an proper FCRA compliant background check. They reported some old charges that were over 15 years old when the company only asked for 7 year history. Then misrepresented a 13 year old charge as a financial crime when it was actually a driving infraction. This cost me a great job opportunity. A lot of people may not care about what happens to someone like me but I have paid many times over for everything I've ever done and don't need crappy companies like this going above and beyond to prevent me from getting a decent paying job. This is a sorry, irresponsible, highly inaccurate company in my opinion. If they reported my info wrong they can do it to everyone.
Ron,
Thank you again for your feedback. We understand it can be frustrating for candidates when results aren't returned the way you expect them to. However, as an accredited consumer reporting agency, GoodHire follows all federal, state and local laws pertaining to how far back a background check can go into a person's criminal history. In many states, including the state of Tennessee, there are no reporting limitations for the types of records that appeared on your results.

I recently obtained a contract job where I had to use GoodHire for my background check. I work as an independent contractor (freelance teaching artist), and I do about 25 background checks a year because I interact with minors. What I have learned today is that GoodHire is the cheapest of them all, and if you use GoodHire, you get what you paid for--they are the worse at doing background checks.
For starters, when GoodHire emailed me saying my background was complete, I was invited to check the results. I immediately was taken to their website, and after logging in with credentials, GoodHire showed two issues within my report. (These show up as big yellow exclamation point.) One was my higher education could not be fully verified. GoodHire was able to confirm my degree and graduation end date, but they could not confirm my start date. How is that even possible? How would you be able to determine a graduation date with degree details and not obtain a start date in that same request?
The second issue was with employment history, again GoodHire indicated a problem with verification. I noticed a yellow exclamation point telling me that GoodHire could not verify my employment. And yet in GoodHire's own notes on the same screen said they were able to reach my employer, but they couldn't confirm the staffing or consulting company who hired me. What does any of this mean?
I immediately called my current employer, and they told me someone called in the morning, but they did not disclose enough details about the nature of the call. My employer didn't feel safe, revealing personal information. It's a small nonprofit company without a full-time HR person. My employer only stated that I currently work there as an independent contractor.
I called GoodHire, spoke first to a David who indicated that both the education and employment flags seemed odd. David with GoodHire agreed that having my graduation date verified, but not my start date was very unusual in the three months he worked there. David was very friendly and tried to be helpful. He indicated to me that GoodHire uses a third-party database to verify all education information. I am not even sure what that means.
When I told David about my employment history not being accurately verified, he mentioned GoodHire uses third-party companies to make calls. I told David that my employer is a small nonprofit and doesn't have an HR department. And how the person who picked up the phone didn't want to deliver personal information to just anyone calling. David asked for my work's phone number and a direct extension to someone who can verify my employment. I supplied all of it. He seemed like he would make the phone calls and fix the inaccurate report.
After hanging up, I received an email from GoodHire saying I needed to fill out a form to make an official complaint. I did that. In the meantime, I received an email from an unknown sender at GoodHire who said they are working on the complaint, and it could take up to 30 days for the investigation to finish. I responded, "My new contractual employment would be over in less than 30 days. And asked if they could please handle this matter quickly." Again, I supplied my University's phone number and my Supervisor's extension so that GoodHire could verify everything that is inaccurate on the background check.
A few hours later, I received an email saying everything was processed and that their investigation was complete. To summarize, GoodHire said they confirmed everything from their third-party vendors (that do all the work for them). GoodHire said there was nothing to change, and the report remained unverified in those two areas. It was clear that GoodHire doesn't do any of the verification; instead, they rely on third-party vendors, callers, and databases to collect all the data. They do not even seem to have a single person working for them that can pick up a phone and call directly to verify misleading and inaccurate information on my background check.
I called again and spoke to Reegan, who looked up my account and said she didn't know what to do because my account was closed. She did say that she knows they can reopen my account, but she would need to speak to a supervisor. I waited on hold for 10 minutes. She came back, and I could hear in her voice her frustration not with me but with the lack of power to do anything to help me. I believed she, like David, wanted to help me fix the inaccuracies on my background check.
I asked Reegan to escalate this matter to a supervisor. She did. I didn't get the GoodHire's Supervisor's name, but she came on and was immediately short. She said there was nothing GoodHire could do because they use vendors and databases to collect or confirm all of the background check data. She, at one point, referred me to the database company that GoodHire uses to verify college graduation data. She said it was their fault that there was no start date. She also recommended I talk to my undergraduate school and maybe get them to fix it with the third-party database company. I said, "Wait, let me get this straight: GoodHire is getting paid to do a background check on me; GoodHire gets it wrong based on a third-party vendor, and then GoodHire tells me to fix their inability to make a phone call to confirm dates?"
I was so frustrated; I emplored to her empathy to help me so that I wouldn't lose this potential job opportunity, you know the company that paid them to a background check on me. The GoodHire Supervisor seemed to care at this point. She asked for all the telephone numbers. I politely reminded her how I already gave the phone numbers to David at GoodHire. I also put them on GoodHire's Offical complaint form, and I even emailed them to the first email I received. Nevertheless, the Supervisor wrote them down and said she would get to the bottom of everything shortly.
Three hours go by, and I log into GoodHire and check the status of my background check to only find they did not correct anything but removed the yellow warning flags from my background check and closed everything but still did not change the unverified details. They did nothing to investigate my complaint. If GoodHire cannot fix their egregious errors, I will contact my State's Attorney General's Office, the Better Business Bureau, and the Federal agencies that govern background checks. GoodHire's shabby practice can cost many people out of a job. GoodHire needs to take responsibility and allow their internal employees to make phone calls to fix their third-party vendors' inaccuracies and mistakes. Bottom line, do not waste your time with GoodHire--you are getting BadData.

This background check company profits from exposing the misery of others. How is it that in America a person will never "pay their debt to society"? We scream equality and non judgement but are unwilling to give second chances to people who have made mistakes. I made mistakes in my youth and have tried desperately to put that behind me. I've been sober for 15 years. Served my time, paid my fines, petitioned the courts for my rights back and been fairly successful in these endeavors but I still can't get a job because companies run background checks for even the crappiest jobs. It would be one thing if the background check only went back 7 or 10 yrs. No - they go back forever. I guess I'll have to resort to criminal activities to support my wife and kids because I've been trying for years to get a job and can't. Thanks GoodHire for profiting from my misery. I hope it comes back to you tenfold!
Hello Ron,
Thank you for your feedback.
We did conduct a criminal background check because it was requested by the company you applied with, which is part of that company's employment screening policy. As an accredited consumer reporting agency, GoodHire performs any search that our customers require that fall within legal guidelines, and we follow all federal, state and local laws pertaining to how far back a background check can go into a person's criminal history.

The Starter package says "Search for your name in nationwide criminal, and sex offender databases." The Basic package says that in addition to the those offerings it will "Expand the search to include domestic watch list, SSN trace, and ASSOCIATED COUNTIES." It did not give me the criminal for my associated counties - that was the whole point of ordering the basic instead of the starter. They claim that county is not included and maintain that you have to pay even more if you want that info even though it clearly states when they are trying to get you to buy your info that county is included in the Basic. Company refuses to respond to refund request and I have to file a dispute with my credit card.
Of course we’re disappointed that you were less than satisfied with our background check service. In an effort to respond to your review, we’ve looked into your account and see that you ordered a Basic Personal Background Check which includes SSN Trace + associated counties (counties that are associated with your Social Security number). To search the county criminal records, you would have had to purchase the Standard package, which clearly states that it adds up to 3 county criminal court searches based on where you’ve lived the past 7 years.

GoodHire was the fastest as far as credentialing and they are always available. I had a situation where I needed to get another copy and they were very accommodating. That part's the best. It’s required by the state of New Jersey to do a background check on any of the people we hire and we’ve been with GoodHire for many years. We've probably done 50 in total. I get a discount if I run a certain amount of time. If I do a pre-package, I get something like a discount for every five. GoodHire has also optimized their website. It used to take a couple days to have a return but now it comes back pretty quickly. It would actually not be that big a deal for me to make a phone call to GoodHire but I end up just running it straight on the website and it’s pretty easy. It’s the best.

We only run the basic background checks and GoodHire is very quick as long as the information is clear. However, it takes a long time if they find something on an employee that has to be checked out and verified with some agency. That can be a lengthy process, but otherwise, they are very quick and efficient 99% of the time. When we had a report that took five days to get done because they had to verify the information, they gave us a partial refund for the delay, which was awesome.

GoodHire is great. It’s really fast. It really keeps you updated on the progress of checks. And when I have problems about logging in or just asking, “Why is this taking so long? We really want this person to work for us,” they are really good at explaining why and how long it might take when there’s a holdup with the courts. I think it’s a good way. I like the options they have. Our candidates fill out their personal information. If we haven’t hired someone yet, it’s better for them to be able to provide their Social Security and more personal information like that even though we would keep it confidential. I like that option because I personally value privacy. So, this is like we do the background check, but I always pick that option for them to complete that part. I think that’s good.
Also, the turnaround is so fast once they do it just like the e-Signature. And it’s like, “Your background report is being run.” I really like that. It’s very user-friendly and very informative in terms of response time. GoodHire is such a good service. I’m an attorney and so, I used to run ISO reports. I was a workers’ comp attorney, so I work with PI’s all the time. It’s totally different than ISO’s but I really value those kinds of services because it’s very helpful and because of the population that we work with. It’s vital that we know if there are any issues with their backgrounds, and we’ve had one come up before, and then we have to be like, “Look, we can’t have you working with this population.” So, it keeps our client safe because we work with people with psychiatric disorders. I’m very protective of them, and it really helps us.

I'm a candidate who had a terrible candidate experience using GoodHire. 1 - I provided an email address to verify my employment. Instead, they did not email this alias and closed my check with a flag on my employment history! This could have jeopardized my entire job! When the HR person at my future company emailed me to inquire, I told her to just email the address I provided. She then said she would do so and asked me to re-open a whole new check. Which brings me to 2 - the loading of the GoodHire page is extremely cumbersome. It took two support tickets and one of the suggestions was a 14 step process that involved only loading it on a desktop, on chrome, after clearing all cookies, caches, browsing, and download history for all time — on an older laptop that takes quite a long time! Easily spent 40 mins before even getting to their site. Poor candidate experience and inaccurate, incomplete results.

(1) Goodhire is easy to integrate with systems and they work really fast, but experience shows that once they have released a report, correcting inaccuracies is difficult if not impossible.
(2) In a recent case a candidate was submitted. Education information was reported as "unable to be verified" yet one call to the candidate's school provided a quick turn around of the missing facts (start date, graduation date and even an emailed unofficial transcript).
(3) In the same case (above) the candidate's employment information could not be verified. I'm still not clear what happened here, and this investigation is ongoing, though I was able to verify employment by the candidate's W2 forms for three (3) years.
(4) In a recent case, Goodhire reported that a candidate was listed on the sex offender registry in two states. The convictions were 20+ years old from when the candidate was a teenager, and though California law prohibits the use of this information for purposes of employment it was reported nonetheless. But digging in further, the candidate was also registered in another state (Tennessee), which Goodhire failed to report. Further, Goodhire didn't report that what they make to look like multiple convictions was actually multiple instances of complying with the registration laws over the last two decades.
In summary, use HireRight or one of the other reputable background check companies that do their diligence before releasing reports. I wouldn't recommend GoodHire for this critical function. I've only written this after being told how great these reviews are and after having spent a week trying to resolve issues.
