Our editor’s take

Westfield Insurance offers a balanced range of options for home insurance with some add-ons and specialty packages for high-value homes, condos and more. You can request a free quote by speaking with a local agent or calling the company offices.

This company is best for insurance shoppers seeking custom options they can bundle with auto insurance. It only offers personal coverage such as homeowners insurance in 10 Midwestern states, so Westfield may not be available in your area.

Westfield doesn’t offer instant quotes through its website, so it’s difficult to compare pricing against similar policies.

How does Westfield Insurance work?

Purchasing a Westfield Insurance home policy starts with contacting an agent in your area for a quote. Applying for homeowners insurance typically involves answering questions about your household, your home’s structure and other property details.

Your insurer may ask questions about how your home was constructed, when it was built, what structures are on your property, such as sheds or outbuildings, and other questions that help shape your policy and pricing. For a renters insurance policy, the company may ask about your household and personal property.

To estimate how likely you are to file a future claim, the insurer may check your credit score and reporting of previous claims. Once the insurance company knows more about your risk, it will decide whether to offer you coverage and how much your premium should be.

If you move forward with a policy, you can sign paperwork and begin coverage that fits your needs. Your premium is typically due every month, once per quarter, twice a year or once a year. If you have a mortgage on your property, your mortgage lender may make these payments through an escrow account that you pay into every month.

Once you’re covered, keep your policy active and hold onto documentation in case you have any questions. To file a claim, you’ll need to contact the company and answer their questions about the event and any damage or theft. If your claim is approved, the company will send you a check or direct deposit payment, accounting for any deductible(s) you’ve paid. Filing a claim may cause your future premiums to increase.

How much does Westfield Insurance cost?

Westfield Insurance customizes the cost of coverage depending on your needs, covered amounts, deductibles, coverage risk and credit history. For these reasons, you must contact a Westfield agent for a quote.

Typically, home insurance premiums are more expensive when:

  • You have a low credit score
  • Live far from a fire station or in an area with high levels of crime
  • Have a history of filing claims
  • Live in an area prone to natural disasters

Your premium is likely to go down if:

  • You have good credit
  • Choose a higher deductible
  • Live in a low-crime neighborhood
  • Install a home security system
  • Make changes to your property that reduce your claims risk

Shopping around for home insurance is one of the best ways you can reduce your insurance premium.

Westfield Insurance covers the company that constructed my pole barn that collapsed less than two years after construction. I have been trying for nine months but they will not pay. Westfield has $10 billion but won’t pay me so I can continue feeding needy people at my Christian farm ministry.
