Progressive is the WORST insurance company I have ever used. They will quote you incorrectly as well as add unlisted drivers without consent and without contacting you. They added a driver who DOESN'T HAVE A DRIVERS LICENSE only a permit to my plan even though I am only 19 and in my state they would not have been legally allowed to drive with just me in the car so it makes absolutely no sense. They are scammers and their csrs have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Just absolutely disgusting. I will be reporting to the BBB and letting them know you guys clearly just add whatever and charge whatever. It’s ridiculous. Just absolutely pathetic. Do not use progressive if you don’t want them stealing your money. If I could give 0 stars I would.

I set up my Renters policy many years ago to be bundled with my Auto insurance. Initially I'd chosen Progressive because they were my cheapest option. Now I regret it, at least for the Renters side. The first major problem is that my agent disappeared one day, without notice and without transferring me to a new one. Fortunately I'm able to deal with Progressive Auto directly, but the Renters side is an archaic nightmare. I have to call to change anything, and I mean anything, because I can't get a "new" agent. All changes - personal info, address, etc - must go through an agent, who no longer exists. On the Progressive website, the phone number they claim is for "Renters" isn't even for Renters. It's the general line - it took years for a phone rep to give me the ACTUAL Renters specific number!!!! Great f-ing system... Jesus Christ....

Here's where it gets even crazier. Over the years I had this policy I moved house several times, calling Progressive directly to update my address each time. One day I log in to my Progressive app and notice my Renters address is from... four moves ago? I called and found out that despite having called each time I moved, MY ADDRESS WAS NEVER UPDATED AND I HAD ZERO COVERAGE FOR YEARS, DESPITE PAYING FOR IT. Hours on the phone later, I did end up with an agent who fought to get me refunded. She thought this was insane too. So shout-out for sometimes-good customer service, but they're doing their best in a system that is objectively horrible, deceptive, and seems to do everything to give you the middle finger.

Recently I got a surprise letter in the mail. Your policy's being canceled for non-payment! Wait... what? I called and found this out: they send you one renewal reminder email. ONE. F-ING. EMAIL!!! Before mailing a cancelation notice, and the notice is DATED AFTER YOUR PAYMENT IS DUE, forcing you to be late. Think about that. They have my physical address, phone number, AND an online portal to reach me. But all you get as a due payment alert is... One. Freaking. Email. I went back and searched my email. Nothing from Progressive. Nothing in my online portal. No texts or calls. When I called about this, PROGRESSIVE TOLD ME THAT THEIR RENTERS EMAILS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR BEING FLAGGED FOR SPAM!!! Especially by Gmail, which I have...

I have made good faith efforts for YEARS to keep my info current and payments on time, yet this company will throttle you and F around to make sure you absolutely, positively CAN'T do anything right. ** this company. Progressive has lost my trust. Auto has been okay for roadside assistance (though haven't used it for anything else...) but Renters? Stay. The **. Away. Worst system ever, and they know it. They know it doesn't work, they know your ONE renewal alert will be dumped in your spam folder, and THEY DO NOT ** CARE. These ghouls deserve to get sued into oblivion, if not face criminal charges.

Worst company ever! Beware of them because I had a renters policy and had a water heater emergency that I lost a lot of my belongings and it has been over 100 days in review with them and they came back with a 110.00 payment. When it cost me over 4000.00. Not to mention I had fines from my HOA for having my damaged items on my patio since I was told I couldn’t throw them out until they were approved to be trashed. You’re not able to cancel your policy until the claim is done either. The claim adjuster I had is terrible. She never called back, skipped our appointments, had excuses for everything. She even had a fake supervisor name on her voicemail. I finally called and got the real name of her supervisor. I think she retaliated against me for calling her supervisor. I cancelled my auto policy months ago because of rate increases for no reason but I’m stuck paying my renters until the claim ends.

I was required by my rental agreement to carry renters insurance, so I paid Progressive in full for an entire year, expecting that if something awful ever happened, I’d at least have the protection I was paying for. What I got instead was one of the worst experiences of my life. When my home burned, I was left with literally nothing — no clothes, no shoes, no glasses, no phone, no walker, nothing.

Progressive left me sitting like that for almost a month. No calls. No help. No urgency. Just excuses, silence, and delay after delay. Then came the real nightmare: They changed their story constantly. They demanded things that didn’t exist. They ignored over 100 emails. They refused to give me a supervisor. They fabricated “verification” issues. They accused me of “lack of cooperation” after ignoring me for weeks. They withheld reimbursement for expenses they told me to incur. They gaslit me when I called them out. They gave misleading information to the Department of Insurance. They left me stranded and disabled without medically necessary equipment

I’ve had customer service issues before, but nothing even close to this. Progressive didn’t just mishandle my claim — they made my situation dramatically worse during the worst moment of my life. If you’re buying renters insurance because your lease requires it, learn from my experience: Progressive will take your money in full upfront… and when you actually need them, you may find yourself completely abandoned. I would never recommend Progressive renters insurance to anyone — not after what they put me through.

Progressive Will Abandon You When Things Go Wrong! Our recent experience with Progressive has shown just how unprofessional and irresponsible they are. Our car was sent to a Progressive network shop (Caliber Collision Milpitas) for minor repairs. When we got the car back, the airbag warning light was suddenly on. This had never happened in the 10+ years we’ve owned the vehicle. We have before-and-after photos of the dashboard that clearly show the airbag system was perfectly fine before the repair. We provided proof that the light wasn’t there before the repair (including dashboard photos), but Progressive refused to take responsibility. They told us we had to pay out of pocket to go to a dealer for a diagnostic test. That alone was unacceptable—they should be the ones investigating a post-repair issue, not us!

The dealer found that the SRS module had been changed and did not match our vehicle. Clearly, the repair shop made a mistake. Yet even with this evidence, Progressive still calls it a "coincidence" and refuses to help us. This entire experience has been stressful, expensive, and extremely disappointing. We trusted Progressive to stand by us when problems arise, especially when using one of their approved repair shops. Instead, they washed their hands of the problem and left us with a safety issue and no support. Avoid Progressive. They won’t have your back when it counts.

They didn’t ask for any history or records. Apparently the reason it wasn't covered is because it wasn't damaged in the vehicle, which means I would have had to file it under vandalism or something. Apparently I can also purchase more coverage.

      Original Review: May 6, 2020

The Progressive sales person said the renter's insurance would cover items damaged during a move. The policy most definitely does not, as my claim was just rejected. I needed to purchase renters insurance anyways, but the fact that progressive assured me I was covered meant I did not purchase additional insurance. So progressive's lying salesperson cost me twice in that sense. I mean, what should I expect from an insurance company, I suppose. Still, don't give these people your business, they are just scammers with great advertising.

So I call in to find out what I'd done wrong because a cancelled renters insurance will get me evicted. They just wanted to ask me to verify EVERY question I filled out when I submitted the application. It's deplorable that they would treat new customers like this.. I require all my tenants to get renters insurance. I had a tenant that went through some issues with the death of two different parents and ended up having to move their contents and their pets into my property, Progressive uses a third-party Insurance Company called Homesite. The tenants were obviously not mentally capable of handling the Pets. The pets basically destroyed the property to the tune of about $50,000 in damage. This Homesite Insurance insist that they only do 500 in pet damage. AM 1010 in damage but this is a liability claim which they refuse to tap into the liability that the tenants have caused this damage.

Now I'm going to have to file a complaint because the company is out of the state of Texas. The incident was in Pennsylvania so I've got to file complaint with the State Attorney General's office in Pennsylvania and also with the federal attorney general office, in addition to that now I'm going to have to file suit against Progressive, Homesite and also the tenants. I tried to work a deal out with them but they insisted I'm only entitled to $1,500. My advice is for anyone who has Progressive Auto insurance or Homesite insurance for renters or homeowners get rid of these companies immediately because they will not stand behind what you need to get done. I have been dealing with insurance companies for over 30 years and I have absolutely never had trouble with an insurance company until this one here.

I have been a Progressive customer for over 3 years. I can’t believe the horrendous experience we just had with them. 3 tornadoes ripped through the county I live in late Tuesday afternoon, which is in N.Y. We lost power for almost 3 days, no water, totally unlivable conditions. One would think that if you have home/renters insurance that the company would help you out. We were sadly mistaken. Not only was the woman Gabrielle one of their adjusters rude, but she said that since we were not the only ones who lost power they wouldn’t cover our hotel stay, not to mention they wouldn’t cover the loss in food since there was a $250 minimum deductible we would have to pay. Which none of these things were disclosed when we signed up, nor can we find it on our insurance binder.

We will definitely be switching companies after this review is posted. I can’t believe they would leave their customers stranded like this. Then again I should have switched when I was hit in a parking lot and they did nothing to help me. After they found the recording the woman who hit me said she hit my car. I provided all corresponding emails and documents to prove that the mold was caused from a water leak and the claims adjuster, Eder ** told me that he would help me receive the money to replace some of the tens of thousands of dollars of damaged clothing and furniture to which I am still trying to track down anyone with accountability that can make this reasonable reimbursement happen.

It is very important to note that RENTERS INSURANCE MOLD CLAIMS MUST BE TIED TO A PROVEN WATER LEAK OTHERWISE THEY WILL NOT COVER ANYTHING. I highly recommend going with any other provider of renters insurance and making sure the loopholes that these scumbag insurance companies use to avoid accountability are as small as possible so you can recoup a portion of your lost investments.

I had a personal insurance agent that I loved. He was very helpful and made sure I was taken care of. He made sure I got the best monthly cost for my premiums and was always a phone call or text away if I had a quick questions. I never had a claim to file but if I did I am sure it would have been easy and well taken care of. The policy seem very fitted to what I was looking for and were easy to add and custom to my changing needs as life moves. I felt better covered than I had with another insurance agency that I had had for years and always felt like I got what I got with them.

I never had any problems with their customer service. Everything was dealt with online. It was great. I really appreciated that. I thought the policy options were just fine. I got basics covered but that's exactly all that I needed and wanted. The options on my rental coverage were adequate. I never had any concerns or problems of any kind. I would recommend them for coverage on rent because they're a great company overall.

They were just ok when I had them but I had to switch because of high rates and they will drop you after a accident. I guess they are good but just not for me. The claim department is good. They do good policy options but once again it is just not for me because of the high rates and high premiums so I had to switch to another company that offers great rates. They do have good coverages I guess but you do have to pay out of your nose for the good coverages. Prices are on the higher side.

One time I forgot to renew my insurance so I called them and everything was fine. I was not penalized for being a few days late. I was happy with that experience. I have never processed a rental claim with Progressive but I have through their car insurance. They processed the claim quickly and paid for my car repairs. They have a lot of different choices depending on how much you want to pay. There are more than enough policy options. I am happy with the selection. I am happy with the coverage. Depends on how much you want to pay depends on how good coverage you get.
