What is Physicians Mutual Medicare Supplement Insurance?

Physicians Mutual offers several Medicare supplemental insurance policies to cover expenses Medicare doesn't pay for, such as deductibles, copayments and coinsurance. To purchase supplemental insurance, you must already have a Medicare policy in place.

You can buy Physicians Mutual Medicare Supplement Insurance with guaranteed coverage during Medicare open enrollment (generally the six-month period after you turn 65) or if you have guaranteed-issue rights because of a disability. Guaranteed coverage means you don't have to answer health questions to obtain coverage and that you can't be turned away.

Once you have supplemental insurance with Physicians Mutual, you can maintain coverage as long as you pay the monthly premiums, even if you move or travel within the United States.

Physicians Mutual Medicare Supplement Insurance plans

  • Plan A
  • Plan F

These people will lie to you in an instant. I was told that they would cover 70% of any procedure with no maximum. When I went for the procedure I found out they only pay $1,000. I had this insurance for a year waiting for the time when they would pay. I wasted all of that money on premiums. I wish I had recorded our conversation. Please stay away from this fly by night, shade tree insurance agency.

My mother paid into a Physicians Mutual long term care account for many years. She was diagnosed with bladder cancer in September 2026. We contacted Physicians Mutual to see what steps we needed to take in order to receive funds she had accumulated in her policy. She was already in an Assisted Living facility and now needed much more care.

After meeting with Physicians Mutual it was determined (by them) she didn't meet the criteria, even though her doctors, the staff at the facility, etc., all stated in writing she needed more care. She was denied access to HER OWN MONEY! Even after multiple letters, surgery, numerous trips to the ER, they still refused payment. Fast forward... my mother passed away a week ago. She was forced to pay out-of-pocket for her care. When Physicians Mutual FINALLY approved her claim, (they also have a 90 day waiting period to get benefits once they do approve the claim!!) she was granted 1 month of services... about $4000, leaving around $50,000 with Physicians Mutual. That money is now theirs... There's no cash value. They are a scam, doing everything possible to hold on to YOUR money when you really need it. I would not recommend Physicians Mutual to anyone!

My wife and I recently signed up for Physicians Mutual Dental, fooled by the constant advertisements on TV about having 90%+ customer satisfaction. That is a lie because Consumer Affairs gives them 1 star. First and foremost, the published list of in-network dentists is totally false. Over 90% in the list are. It in-network. Most of them say that they drop them because the in-network prices have not been outdated for years, so they drop them. The few dentist that are out of network but they’ll accept the insurance price but the client has to pay the difference, they say the prices paid by Physicians Mutual are so outdated, they don’t even cover 50% of the customary prices. LIARS, LIARS, LIARS. Do not get this insurance. You’ll be sorry.

This is a company that considers its customers as idiots. While continuing to charge card, refuses to pay any part of my fifteen thousand dollar bill. Since July both my dentist and I have sent the same bill four times, the last time I sent the bill return receipt. They signed for it, showing that they received it. Every time I call, I hear the same story, the bill was not received. This company is guilty of fraud, false advertising and probably a number of other crimes. AVOID DOING ANY BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

Decided to change my Medicare supplement this year. Called to get a quote, spoke with Wyatt and after answering all the questions and giving my medication, I was told that they couldn't give me insurance. But offered me a dental plan instead. Told Wyatt that if they wouldn't insure me with a supplement, why would he think, I would apply for dental coverage. I feel this is a discrimination issues because of my health.

Have been paying them for a while, a few weeks ago had a problem with my eyes and went to an ophthalmologist, presented them my ‘physicians mutual insurance card, at the end of the visit I had to pay $1300, and the insurance paid nothing. I called the company and tried to cancel, if I have to pay them and then pay the doctor's visit also doesn’t make sense to have insurance. They gave me a very hard time to cancel, to the point that I told them to never mind, that I had a much faster way to not let them see one cent of my money anymore, so I put a stop to payments within my bank. A month later they had the nerve to send me a bill, can y’all believe that? A bunch of crooks is what they are.

Sent a dental claim to Ameritas, the processor for dental claims on October 18 by email. From there on I have only gotten the run-a-round. I have called a least ten times. Every time I call I get a different answer from they can’t find the email to they found the email and it is being put into the system for processing. That was on November 24. They advised it usually take from 7 to 10 days to process a claim and I would get a letter. On December 9 they advised it takes up to 30 days to process a claim, they continue to kick the can down the road. I cancelled my policy, and suggest you do the same unless you are fond of frustration.

This company tricked my elderly mother with cognitive issues into paying for "my" insurance for years. I'm an adult with insurance through my job. I've contacted them multiple times (including MULTIPLE cancellation letters) to cancel and they have continued to send her bills. Do not trust this company around your loved ones.

It is amazing every time I contact customer service at Physicians Mutual Insurance Headquarters in Omaha Nebraska: Senora Nayely & Lori, Customer Service Agents, tell me that my dental policy has been canceled effective 07 Mayo 2022 because I cannot use it in Mexico as Doctor in COVID19 Hospital Clinic Staffing Relief (humanitarian aid - non paid status).

BUT BUT my Wells Fargo USA Bank is still being charged automatically on electronic auto pay, which puts me into an overdraft status account and costs me twice what the policy is worth. I have called repeatedly for 4 months and/or emailed Physician Mutual and they blame my bank; then I call my bank and Wells Fargo USA and they blame Physicians Mutual.

I attempted to Resolve by asking Physicians Mutual to contact their internal Financial Accounts Department directed by the Management of Physicians Mutual to stop the Auto Pay deductions from Wells Fargo USA Bank. BUT BUT Physicians Mutual Insurance National Office states that all insurance Companie in the USA cannot do that. Thank you Consumer Affairs Consumer Protection Services for Helping me Resolve this very costly mistake. Gracias - Dr. Roger ** Medica Clínica en Guachochi Chihuahua Mexico **.
