I have never seen such an inept company in my life. Communication is nonexistent. Emails bounce back as undeliverable. Once I got a message that the phone extension that I dialed wasn’t in service. You never know IF or WHEN you might receive a payment. Medical records are lost or misplaced. They request records from your providers, and then when those are sent and subsequently LOST, then they want you as the patient to get the records. On top of that, there’s a ridiculous deadline attached to those requests. Something should be done, it’s getting ridiculous.

They have admin people asking very personal questions when they interview you. They don't call you back. They take forever with medical review and they always seem to be "missing paperwork" from your provider, so nothing moves forward. When they finally get what they need they deny your claim anyway. Useless. When you ask for any benefit regarding mental health, forget it. You apparently have to chop your arm off to get any real coverage.

Was denied my claim for no reason. I refiled my claim. Worst people to work with. They can care less about you. Better off getting my insurance from the Russian Mafia.

MetLife is hands down the worst company I’ve ever dealt with, and I’m saying that as someone who trusted them during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life. I paid into long-term and when I needed it I received the run around for months, my disability specialist never could explain the process or give a timeline. They say 24 business hours but they say that to get you off the phone.

Every time I call a different person gives me a different answer. I called them out on X and NBC Cost of Denial and the next day I got a call from my disability claim specialist to Finally say After MONTHS of calling and Waiting that I was DENIED!!!! Their website/app is never updated or has any useful information, I have attached photos/receipts to prove my words. Then said she had still do a report on the findings and send it to her Manager to APPROVE my DENIAL and then she would send it to me to finally read it, cry, and APPEAL!!!! MetLife’s whole brand is about “being there for you.” Yeah being there to collect premiums. Being there to gaslight you. Being there to make sure you get nothing you paid for. Anything beyond that? Forget it. A quote from another dissatisfying customer that says exactly how I feel!!!!

Same as other victims of this company. They make it difficult to file a claim, they say they haven’t received paperwork etc. When they finally approved they gave me what they wanted not should have been and good luck trying to get anyone to respond a call. This shouldn’t be allowed!

I tried to complete a simple claims process and ran into so many roadblocks with MetLife. Customer service was terrible to say the least. They kept saying they never received information from my provider, but it was confirmed to have been sent/received from the provider's end.

Got a policy with them for short and long term disability, you just never know what will happen. Recently had a surprise hip revision surgery that was sprung on me a week before they wanted to do it. First, I did the initial interview three separate times, including with my claims “specialist” so nobody in the company communicates or charts notes. My claims lady then calls and says to email her my leave paperwork and restrictions from the doctor, the problem is she never sent me her email. I called about three or four times only to get her voicemail. My other issue was that my place of employment, with whom I signed up with, and MetLife apparently don’t communicate system wise. Multiple times agents told me “I don’t see your policy” or “are you sure you have a policy with us?”.

My last issue is the “look back period”. As a veteran, I’m always going to get checkups at VA hospitals and clinics so based on that, a vet will always be caught in the look back period for having just periodic checks. Apparently there is no discernment between an actual visit for a specific issue or a checkup. Hell, apparently having a discussion about an issue within the look back period disqualifies you. Probably the worst company for STD and LTD policies. No communication and no urgency whatsoever.

I talked to the claim lady on 4/17/2026 which is when she told me I was denied coverage, her last request was to “email her the paperwork from the doctor so she could put it on file”, I said “ma’am, you told me to do that in the beginning of this process and you never sent me your email”, of course she said it was a system issue. As soon as I’m able, I’m dropping their policies like hot metal. Just don’t understand what’s the use of paying for something you can’t use or get approved for. Should’ve did my research prior as they have a very high denial rate for short and long term disability claims. Stay far, far away for MetLife.

MetLife refused to pay disability as required when I was diagnosed with incurable lymphoma. They are all snake oil. They say they are giving you a benefit when they hire their lawyer to look over your Social Security benefits, and then use that information to withdraw benefits that you should be getting. Then they make you pay for the lawyer! And call it income to the IRS! They refused to read my letters or return my calls. Of all the companies I’ve dealt with, met. Life is the worst. Full stop.

I’ve paid into LTD for years, and never used it until 2024. I had two major shoulder surgeries, and have had so many problems with them. I’ve had five case workers during this time. They don’t return calls, don’t respond to emails, and their app doesn’t work. This month I’ve called every Friday, and no one has called me back. I’ve sent all the paperwork they’ve requested multiple times, and still it’s not good enough. I received no pay from December thru February. I got that resolved. They paid me the end of February. This month no money. Who knows how long before I get paid. They take your money, but when you need it they don’t pay. Terrible to go through when you’re trying to recover.

If I could give them a negative score I would. I opted in to MetLife’s STD during my employer's open enrollment last year, with coverage starting in July. I became pregnant and called in October to confirm coverage and was told everything was good. I had my baby in December and sent in the claim. The claim was denied and the “condition” was considered preexisting because I had my first OB apt during the “look back period”. What was the look back period? April 1-June 30. When was my 1st appointment? June 30. I appealed it because surly, someone there has to have a heart and understand. Nope. It was upheld. This company is cold, and only cares about the CEO's corner office and thickening their pockets. This country already puts mothers and families at the very bottom of the totem pole. I have to go back to work early and leave my child just so we can have money to live. This is absolutely disgusting.
