I want to share this disappointed and really uncomfortable situation. By the end of August I got a backflow due a malfunction of my sump pump, during the middle of the night and just myself and two small kids. While I was trying to wash my 1 year old daughter I noticed that no hot water was coming from shower, so I decide to check the water heater. As soon I open the basement door I hear a strong noise coming from basement. Then when I turn the light the entire basement was flooded.

At that moment I google some local plumbing companies around my neighbor. Nobody pick up or it was off regular hours. My last resource was to call a company located in new york. They came within an hour and half. This company evacuate the water with pumps. They brought and repair the backflow from defective sump pump. They work for several hours trying to dry the basement. They, as a professionals, advise me that water heater stop working due flood damaged the burner and ignite system and then they replace the heater.

Next day I start looking for my insurance policy. While reading I found that I was covered and my deductible was 1000 for backflow sum pump, so I decide to call Liberty Mutual. An adjuster contact me to set an appointment. So the day came and he inspect the property damage, took pictures of everything and advise me that an internal adjuster will contact me. Days come and go and nobody contact me even I send pictures, videos, and invoices. The internal Desk Adjuster Jason ** answer me after several calls. This incident happen to me for first time in my life, so I had many questions. During the conversation this person was very irritated and sarcastic about my questions making me feel uncomfortable, So I decide to raise my concern about his behavior.

At this moment he raise his voice and shouting, so I had tell him why he is behaving like this with a customer. Also many time he provide me wrong information. Like for example "Oh your deductible is 2500 and many of the damage things are not covered." So I explain to him that my deductible is 1000 and I just need correct information. He was keeping being rude and sarcastic. Then he said that he will contact me after investigation. Ok, days pass again and no communication was provide to me, so I decide to call again since he was assigned to my case. Again I start asking questions about the claim and again this person start giving me attitude and being disrespectful, so I inquire to speak with his supervisor, and at this moment he just hang off on me.

If I am writing this paragraphs it's to warn customers to be very careful with this company because allow people like this to treat customers as they are doing them a favor - unprofessional and not helpful at all. The essence to get insurance is to have a peace of mind and that you should be in a good hands and not the opposite, even getting afraid to ask them questions when an accident happens to you of your properties.

I didn't write down the male agent name that I spoke with. Everything was pretty straightforward as insurance quotes go. Until he asked if I had an animal on the premises. I advised I have a dog inside, a mutt. He immediately was suspicious of breed. I said that I always say a West Highland mix. I said I saved her from a high kill shelter. He didn't care about that information. He wanted to know what she was mixed with. I said a terrier. He wanted to know what kind of Terrier. I said she is not a Pit Mix. Although my neighbor has a Pit and he is sweet. The agent needed to know what type dog to go forward. I said any company this ridiculous that I had not experienced before is not for me.

After we hung up I saw HOW POOR the RATINGS are for LIBERTY MUTUAL. So glad I didn't make that huge mistake. EVEN more stupid than driving 3/4ths of a car (like their commercial) is getting insurance with them. Please Google: Liberty Mutual Reviews (horrible).

We had two weather events about a month apart and our roof was damaged. When we took the policy with them about three years ago, I advised them that their "replacement cost" for our home was almost double of what it would actually be. The guy I was speaking with replied that the amount would make sure that our home was built back and for no other reason.

Fast forward to a couple of months ago when we had the roof damage. The adjuster shows up and the first thing he does is hands me a paper that said our deductible for the roof (roof only) was .5% of the replacement cost of the house. So, that very inflated replacement cost actually was for another purpose. I advised the adjuster that if he wrote us a check for their replacement cost, that we would be out of the house by midnight that day. He said it was not his call on that. When he came down off the roof, he did say that we would be getting a new roof. BUT he said that since it was a 20 year roof and the house was 20 years old, that LM would depreciate the amount they would pay.

I advised the adjuster that it was indeed a 30 year roof and that I had kept everything from when we built the house, including the warranty section from one of the roofing packages. He said that the roofer just gave me something that he had - but then I told him that I had torn that piece off of the wrapper myself. Then I added that when the adjuster for the insurer of my neighbors house came and looked at theirs, he told them that it was a 30 year shingle, and that they liked our roof so much that they put on the same shingle - 3 months after ours was done. I told the guy that he really needed to get another job because what he was doing was pathetic.

We received a check from LM and it was made out for the amount they said was depreciated as well as less that .5%. Since the damage was over $10K, it was also made out to our mortgage company. The four estimates we have gotten were ALL over $2500 more than the LM estimate. I filed a complaint with our state insurance commissioner office and they contacted LM. I did not have high expectations. They sent me a copy of the policy from LM along with their explanation. They said that LM was doing what was in their policy.

The very next day I see a commercial for LM on TV and the lady is talking about how people do not read their policies because it is mostly legal stuff. People only read the first page. The commercial says other than the first page all of it is blah blah blah, blah blah blah. When I contacted their customer service, they were very rude and wanted to talk over me. When I told the female on the call that she wasn't going to talk over me and not listen to my complaint, she hung up on me. From reading these other complaints, that seems to be standard operating procedure for LM.

I'm not done with these clowns and have secured the services of an attorney. I have also contacted my mortgage company and they are investigating. The person handling it even stated that there is something wrong when they inside my home for far more than its value. My roof isn't repaired, but it doesn't leak. Stay away from LM. They are terrible. No, they are pathetic AND terrible. I have told several people about them and will continue to do so. Our auto insurance is with them also, and we will be dropping all insurance with them before any renewals. Stay away from them!!!

I have become increasingly suspicious of this company. I insured with them a year ago and advised them that my home had wood siding. I told them at that time that it was going to be entirely replaced with cement board siding. The salesperson told me to notify them when it was completed and my house would be re-classified as having masonry siding and it would result in reduced premiums. When I called to advise them that the project was complete, I was told there was no difference in premiums (except a 45.00 dollar a year reduction for replacement cost). How can this be? A masonry sided structure insures the same as a wood sided structure? Even the local fire chief finds this as odd.

When it was time to renew my homeowners insurance the other day I went online and entered what I was looking for and before I navigated off the web page I received a call from an insurance agent with Liberty Mutual. He was obviously from out of state which set off a couple of warnings. We went over what I was looking for, homeowners only with no autos added. I had just renewed my auto insurance a month before and have no reason to change. Sure enough the agent tried to sell me auto insurance at an inflated rate. After I told him no, only homeowners he took all the information, verified it with public records and then he tried to get me to purchase insurance at 3 times my home's value at $115.00 more than I was already paying.

I asked him why I the insurance was for so much over my home's value. He said it was because I was qualified for their premium service. I could just see me trying to claim that much more than the value of my house if something were to happen. I thought that they were a reputable company with good values but the experience I had with that agent was an astronomical waste of time. Be careful when talking to these people and ask questions, if they try to sell you too much insurance. Do what I did and just say NO.

I had Liberty Mutual for about 12 years then switched when my agent went to another company. I was with the other company for the last 8 years. My wife and I thought we should check around on pricing to see if we were still getting a decent deal. LM gave me a better price on both my home and auto so we switched, worst idea ever. After 1 month I received a letter stating they could not insure my home due to a set of deck steps without a railing, siding missing on my garage and debris in my yard. I called LM and they stated to fix those items and submit pictures and they could keep the policy in place.

First I contacted the inspection company to find out about the siding and debris. Their report showed approx 6 pieces of siding off my garage wall, and their picture actually showed my ladders set up around the missing siding. The inspector had come just after I had removed the siding to replace it after a woodpecker caused damage. As a matter of fact the new siding was sitting on the trailer behind my truck 20 ft away when he took the picture. The "debris in the yard" was the siding that had been removed sitting next to my ladder. When I received the cancellation letter the siding had already been put back on and the entire garage stained so that was an easy fix, I took a few pictures and went on to the hand rail. The side steps on my deck are 5 steps high and did not have a hand rail so I installed one then took pictures of that as well.

All this was sent in to LM customer service to appeal the cancellation. They said it was submitted to underwriting and I should know in 3 to 5 days. When I called back after a week they told me it could not be reinstated because of the 3 previous issues, even though they were taken care of. I sent in a complaint to their complaint department and received a call saying she would look into the whole matter. She then called me the day after the policy was cancelled to let me know the underwriters were not willing to reinstate it due to the 3 issues even though they were taken care of. Luckily I had already changed back to my previous company and took my auto coverage as well. This whole process was ridiculous and very stressful.

I have a great credit rating and have never filed a homeowners claim so there is no need for all this crap. If this is how it is just to get the policy how will they treat me if I ever need to file a claim. I wouldn't use this company ever and will let everyone I know hear about this. By the way I showed my old agent that I went back to the report, pictures and the pictures I sent back in and he couldn't believe how I was treated. Beware of Liberty Mutual.

I'm sorry to bash but people need to know. Liberty Mutual sent out an adjuster to see about damage to my roof from a storm we had earlier this year. I decided not to make a claim after the inquiry and never asked for one cent because their estimates were totally unrealistic. I sold my house and am buying a new house. I'm looking into insurance quotes and all of them are super inflated. I then found out that they placed a claim on my record and are refusing to take it off even though I didn't follow through with it. The company policy, and their definition, is that a claim inquiry and claim are the same thing if damage is found to have occurred, whether you use your policy or not. How shady!!!

This year I reluctantly allowed Amica to review my coverage and rates only to find Liberty was double the newly quoted rates. When I inquired, I was told "the rates were the rates." Besides the higher cost, service by Liberty had steadily declined with errors on my account, missed coverage and even now poor follow up after canceling my policies. The young man handling my account did not forward the notice of new coverage since "it was not his responsibility." It is a disappointment. Bigger is not better. I guess loyalty does not have its rewards any more. I recommend anyone with Liberty have the insurance reviewed annually.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Company entraps a homeowner policy owner who mistakenly makes a claim for an excluded loss!! The entrapment happens when the policyholder calls to report a loss and doesn't realize it is excluded from the policy. The "Claims Intake Person/Robot" doesn't bother to ask if you know whether it is excluded or not. I'm not a lawyer or insurance professional and didn't know my policy excluded my loss and didn't think to ask. Once the computer keys are pressed to input a "claim" for something not in your policy, an irrevocable report, like a black mark, is out there for every insurance company in the nation to see, coast-to-coast. In my case, Liberty Mutual made ZERO payout. Doesn't matter--the national "REPORT RECORD" doesn't show that and your property is BLACK-MARKED!!!

So they began by asking about the house, garage, and then to the household. She asked how many adults, we said 2. She asked how many children, we said 3. Next she says "how many pets," answer is 1. The next question is "what kind of dog," reply was pitbull. She say "Oh we don't cover that kind of dog at all." I say, "Shouldn't that be discrimination because they were removed from the vicious dog list in Ohio." She says to me "We make the rules, not you..." And then she hangs up on me.

I don't complain about much but I thought to myself I'm more vicious than my dog. I called back to discuss with a supervisor and he tells me, "She was just stating facts." I said, "And what was she saying when she hung up on me?" How unprofessional Liberty Mutual can be... That place is a joke and do whatever they want to. No consequences for their actions.

I have never written a message like this and really am sorry to have to do so, but I am so very disappointed with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. I had insurance covering home and autos for over 20 years. I moved last year and requested to continue my coverage. I received a call letting me know they approved my move, but I wasn't aware I was to expect to sign all kind of documents to bind the coverage. After all those years I wasn't sure what the process was, but depended on them to make it work. Evidently they tried to call me and my voicemail was full. However, they had my "approval" to move forward. They never sent the information and without knowing it I didn't have coverage from July 2015 to the time I made a claim for a scheduled item lost in the move. That's when I found out I had not homeowners insurance coverage at all.

We went round and round about coverage, the issues, what happened. I was glad to know I didn't have coverage, but would never had called to make a claim if I knew I didn't have coverage. At the end of the day the company I sent other people to, bragged about, stayed with, treated me as if I was a second class citizen and no matter what, after seeing deficiencies on my side and theirs -- they told me they would not honor anything with me. I am flabbergasted and will be looking for insurance coverage elsewhere and will encourage everyone else to do likewise.

Last year my son and I switched all of our insurance to Liberty Mutual. Agent was accommodating and fantastic! We were making the switch from Nationwide on homeowners and auto because of exorbitant rate increasing. Agent was well aware of this and assured me that their rate increases would never increase more than 3-4% per year as compared to the 15-25% rate increases from NW. Just received renewal notices and over a 25% increase in homeowners rates. LM Greensboro branch manager explanation blames it on NC regulation. Was told my agent would help mitigate this problem. Instead received a non-renewal notice because I refused to sign the "Consent to Excessive Rate" increase letter required by NC, I think for them to charge rate that exceeded allowed rate increase. I was still waiting for the agent to mitigate, and this is how I was treated. Maybe he was glad I wouldn't sign it yet and he didn't have to deal with it. I don't know.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed at being treated this way while being a new customer with no claims. Customer Service and my agent had been very helpful in answering my questions until I questioned the rate increase. Then he wanted to talk about it on the phone when I requested email explanation. Too many life events made it extremely difficult for me to take phone calls when email worked effectively. Went round three times before receiving the email accommodation. What a waste of my time this has been. It's like they didn't want to give me straightforward answers. So no mitigation on the rate has yet to occur. I sent one final email attempt to receive that. In the meantime, I am looking for other Homeowners insurance company. Now I'm worried about authenticity of the life insurance policies we bought from them.

The flooding led to my furnace and hot water heater to stop working. This all happened in the dead of winter a couple of weeks ago. After we realized that there was too much water for us to remove from the basement and that things were not working, I contacted Liberty Mutual. In the course of a week with no heat nor hot water, I talked to 7 different reps. who told me differing things. One, I had to get a plumber to remove the water and determine the cause of the flooding. I did that. Two, some reps told me that I would be covered because of the sump pump not working but others said there was no coverage.

I have the names of everyone with whom I spoke but no one helped me. I purchased space heaters for my failoy while all this was going on. I decided to have my furnace and my hot water heater replaced/repaired myself. To date, nothing has been done by Liberty. I paid, myself for a new pump system as well as the items mentioned above. Liberty's reps refuse to accept that the flooding did not occur because the sump pump was bad but because of ground water and frozen pipe caused by the snow and water. Several reps insist the opposite. The plumber and the other repairmen told me that the pump stopped working because it could not withstand the pressure of the ground water and ice causing the failure and the flooding. It's crazy! First off, you are rating an insurance company that you have never filed a claim with, it is not the same thing. If you are never planning to have anything go wrong and need to use your insurance company but just want to find someone to give your money to who can take it with no problems, then reporting that your insurance company is great is fine. But if you are trying to give advice to people who actually want to insure their home, don't write a positive experience based solely on their billing or customer service.

On November 14th, my family lost our house to a fire. It is looking like a total loss and it is definitely not livable. After much confusion and delays, we have still not received any financial help from Liberty Mutual. It has been 25 days that my family, including my 1 year old son, has been homeless. This company has "sent checks" to our old address (I called the current owners who said nothing has come in for us) and between going back and forth with where to send the checks (we tell them every time where to send it) it is 25 days later and no financial help. We lost almost everything.

Luckily we were able to keep some clothes otherwise if LM had their way, we'd be running around naked. So, I ask you to think about this, can you last almost a whole month (still haven't received the check, maybe it will be 2 months by then) without a house or anything that was in your home and receive no help from insurance and not go delinquent on bills? If so, LM might work out for you. Do your homework. Don't let your family go through this on top of having your belongings and home destroyed. They truly do not care about your well being. Merry Christmas.

On December 26, 2015 I had a hot water pipe break and it flooded my house when I was out of town. I first started with a bad (subcontracted) claims agent that delayed drying the house out for so long that the mold level was incredible. They soon replaced him with one of their own claim agents and because of the level of damage, they waived all my limits. The house had to be gutted and treated before reconstruction could take place. They put me up in a furnished apartment until the house was complete. As of Nov. 25, 2015, I am glad to say that, the house is now complete. It was a slow start but Liberty Mutual finally came through for me and I am happily back in my home

I was insured by GEICO, but Liberty Mutual was the company that underwrote my homeowner's insurance. On April 2003, my home in Albuquerque suffered a loss due to water seeping from the roof while I cared for my terminally-ill Mother in Miami, FL. I rushed to Albuquerque, leaving my Mother in the care of a cousin temporarily in Miami. The damage to my home was considerable. Liberty Mutual has a SLEAZY way (at the time, don't know if this practice continues to date or not) of only giving you 50% of your total claim and DO NOT DISBURSE remaining monies until the work on your home is complete. I COULD NOT remain in Albuquerque while the work would be completed, and had to return to Miami, FL to continue taking care of my bed-ridden and oxygen-dependent Mother. My Mother passed on September 3, 2003, but by that time the period that Liberty Mutual gave you to complete the work of course had not been done.

I didn't trust anyone in Albuquerque (New Mexico is in No. 2 place as Most Dangerous States in the USA) with the keys to my home to supervise the extensive roof and interior repairs needed. So LIBERTY MUTUAL IN EFFECT SCREWED ME OUT OF SOME $9,500 because I was forced to choose between leaving my terminally-ill Mother to her own devices (my cousin had taken leave from work and could not care for my Mother the 3-4 weeks it took to complete the repairs) or going back to care for her and put off the repair work to my home. I would not recommend Liberty Mutual to anyone - forget their cutesy TV commercials - they are heartless, unsympathetic buzzards. They even fired the Insurance Estimator that gave me the estimate for my home repairs because they felt she had been "too generous" with the estimate! Never Again, Liberty Mutual!!!

After paying my bill on time for 6 years with them I filed a claim for my roof and they refused to acknowledge that damage existed from hail and storm and said it was "wear & tear". I've been in my home 12 years and it was new construction when it was purchased and out of nowhere, I got water in my basement June 2015. Liberty made me get someone to determine the "reason" for the water. Meanwhile, they sent a guy out who looked and he took pictures and then told me on the spot it couldn't be covered because it was considered "ground water" and not something that insurance covers. Within 5 days or so, I was able to find out that my sump pump wasn't working --- doesn't that explain why water got into my home?? When I contacted insurance, they still concluded that was not the reason for the water getting in. Why didn't they send their own professionals to make a real determination. Instead his pictures showed water was not pooling around the sump pump area, hence, that was not the "reason" for the water.

Meanwhile, sump pump was repaired and there has been numerous amounts of rain this summer and no more water in my basement. I've lost all the carpet that was in that room and will have to replace flooring there as well as the nearby bathroom. Why am I being held responsible for taking care of my own restoration when I have insurance??? BUT the basement has been BONE DRY since the sump pump was repaired. I know numerous people (okay, three families) whose basement flooded due to a broken sump pump and insurance covered it. Liberty Mutual found a random reason to not cover me and I am miffed.

Last fall I called Liberty Mutual to ask some questions. Of course the phone rep couldn't answer them so they sent out our regional claims person. I walked him through the house with questions, that is all and I made it clear they were questions only. He wrote up that we had major issues with our foundation, our second floor had framing issues, our garage was off its foundation, and that we had mold! He opened a claim too - of which we were never informed. LM never sent us any information until we received a notice of pending cancelling our insurance until major work was done. They wouldn't send someone else out to verify the accusations. I argued with them for months, then finally hired a structural engineer at $2,400 to verify our house did not have foundation or structural issues. Called after I sent it in and was told all was good.

Three months later another letter of pending cancellation. They said when I sent the letter in, it didn't have enough info, however no one told me this three months earlier nor was I sent anything in the mail. Then they said we had to fix the garage, seal the basement walls, replace the doors on our cellar entrance, and more. I called, asked what was going on, and again asked for someone to come out to verify. No luck, so I asked if we did the work ourselves if photos would suffice. Did the work, sent photos, was told we would hear in 3 days. No word, so I called them after 5 days - still hadn't even been seen by underwriting yet! Got mad, called to get other insurance only to find out a claim had been opened by Liberty Mutual without my knowledge. Two claims in five years puts you at high risk insurance (big dollars).

Months of arguing with them and they finally tell me that the pictures I sent don't match what the claims guy sent - I NEVER saw his pictures, nor had a copy of the claim! Sent photos showing the garage was on its foundation, but we replaced the sill plate anyway to satisfy them. Sent a pictures showing no mold - they said seal the basement walls anyway. Sent the letter of structural integrity - wasn't good enough (how is this not good enough?!). Replaced our back steps, sent photos showing they were old but not a safety hazard - they didn't care - we had to rebuild them. This is all based on one person's false reporting. Now I'm fighting to get the claim removed from my policy ($0 payout should not have been a claim at all) so that I can find new insurance. What a horrible, horrible company and their underwriters are sharks. Filing a complaint with the insurance commission as soon as all this is done. It has gone on for 10 months now.

When Liberty Mutual reached out to me to apply for their homeowners insurance, I was willing to do so because I have been happy with their auto insurance. After committing to their homeowners via written agreement and first month payment, AND written cancellation to my current insurance, I received a cancellation notice from Liberty following their home inspection. My home is newly renovated, therefore its appearance is neat and tidy, with curb appeal and no visible reasons for a cancelled policy. Their reasons included a missing railing, moss on part of my roof, and a branch that just barely over hangs a corner of my roof, and is nowhere near touching the roof. I called and expressed my concerns and aggravation.

Here are my main points about my experience and why I would not suggest to anyone to use Liberty Mutual: I am a veteran home buyer and buy and sell, rent homes, and renovate them. I have NEVER had this experience with any other insurance companies. ENTRAPMENT, a company should not assist you in canceling your current policy and cash your check before completing their inspections, therefore not fully committing to you. 1 YEAR PENALTY, even if you can complete your necessary changes immediately, Liberty will not review your policy again for a minimum of 1 year. I have now lost my insurance company that I have used for my properties, and have to start from scratch in finding a new policy on my home and have it in place within 3 weeks.

I applied for homeowners insurance (HI) after my old company raised my premium by $200/yr. with no claims. I went with GEICO since I like their car insurance. Unfortunately, GEICO routes you to Liberty Mutual (LM). LM was happy to give me a policy with better coverage for $600 less than my old policy. After a few weeks of coverage, this fellow showed up at my house with a camera. He told me he needed to take pictures of my house for LM. Two weeks after he was over, I got a letter from LM letting me know they were cancelling my HI policy. They gave me reasons: Overhanging branches, chipped paint, exposed wood, detached gutter. I laughed out loud at this absurd nonsense when I read the letter.

First off, I'm in the roof clearing business. I'm a Certified Arborist and a good deal of my business involves clearing roofs of trees that are touching the roof. I routinely do this for insurance companies. The standard is eighteen inches, but I give three feet of clearance, normally. My trees do not even come close to my roof. The lowest point is more than four feet away. "Overhanging branches" was new to me, though. I have a grand Live Oak that has enormous leaders. Some do go over my roof but they are sturdy and are many feet above my roof. To remove them would kill the tree over time, as the weight distribution would be unbalanced. Next: My house was painted a year ago. I did an inspection, after I read the letter, and found three six inch areas where a few raised chips could be seen.

Gutters: None of my gutters are detached. I have two downspouts that run straight from the gutters into hard plumbed drainage receptacles. You can climb on these downspouts. Exposed wood: I have an overhang that was put up to protect a planned hot tub. Painting it will take a "grueling" ten minutes. This whole episode is truly ridiculous. Had LM given me a chance to "correct" the issues as above, it would have taken me about an hour to do so. All would have been a simple matter except the branch issue, as noted.

So why didn't they instruct their photographer to tell me what the possible issues were? Why didn't they send the guy out BEFORE they took my money? It would have been a simple matter. Why don't they list on their website the things they look for that will make you ineligible for their HI? I would strongly caution you to not consider going with LM unless you are living in a newly constructed home with small trees that do not go over your roof at all. The paint chips, exposed wood, and detached gutter issues were most likely add-on issues to make me simply throw up my hands and find another company, which I have done. FWIW, if you read more complaints in here, you will find that LM does this cancellation routine with many other folks. I suggest you avoid LM.

Recently changed insurers to save money. All is well until 2 weeks later they contracted with an inspector to come and do an inside and outside inspection of my home and property. The inspector spent about 5 minutes taking pictures and left. Two weeks later I get a 30-day cancellation notice from Liberty Mutual indicating that based upon the inspection, my homeowners insurance is being cancelled because of the condition of the property. The following items were noted:

    1. In a fenced in area, at least 150 feet from my home, I have recyclable materials from home/property improvement and cleanup plus two tires.
    2. One side of my renovation in process barn is not finished (siding in disrepair). In the last 9 years I have taken the unusable barn and invested over 8,000 dollars to make it useful. It is not yet complete.
    3. My shed, which was updated with a metal roof last year, is in disrepair.

    4. Undomesticated animals (13 chickens).

Since 2006 when I bought the property I have put in over 40,000 dollars into the septic system, leaching field, siding, roofing, furnace/ductwork, and interior renovations. The home has upgraded window and electrical system. This is so wrong. Liberty Mutual refuses to let me correct these issues and is cancelling my insurance.

Liberty Mutual is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. In 11/12 a busted pipe caused mold in our home. When we saw a little bit starting to grow they sent a company out to inspect. We were told that this company cleared our home of any mold. That was a complete lie. At the time I had no reason to doubt their word. If a supervisor tells you that you have no mold I had no reason to doubt her or any idea she would blatantly lie and put my families lives in danger. They cared nothing about my baby or children, they only cared about saving money. This company has acted in disgusting faith. During that time my husband was arguing with the adjuster that you could see mold growing. It's in the pictures! They insisted that pdr cleared my home of mold.

So in Sept 2013 finally the adjuster sends a check. I told my husband to call him and tell him to keep his check that I'm not understanding why they are sending a check if nothing was wrong. The adjuster said it was to fix up the bathroom. We told him we are having someone come in to check for mold, that we don't trust them. He said if we find mold to send pictures. That week I went to a new Doctor who never met me. I told him my symptoms and how ill I felt and he immediately said "you have black mold in your home."

I was shocked and told him I can't believe he said that because I have a contractor coming that Saturday to look at my bathroom to look for mold. That Sat came and I couldn't believe my eyes! Black mold growing all over. That was around 11/ of 2013. 12/13 Liberty Mutual's adjuster comes and sees the mold and says nothing. Didn't even advise us to leave the home. Left us there to die. They paid a small amount to do the work. When a friend found out he told me that my insurance company should have advised me to a mold restoration company. That adjuster did nothing of the sort.

I started calling in mold restoration companies and was advised of the dangers and to get a hygienist. Then I was made aware of how serious this all really was. Called in a hygienist and the mold counts were off the charts. Still liberty mutual didn't guide or help us in any way. We asked to be moved to safety and the adjuster tried saying it was my fault and couldn't. Again that March had more testing done and it was horrible. Liberty Mutual did nothing. Sent them copies of everything they said they would pay for the hygienist but couldn't provide us with safe housing. Finally after fighting with the adjuster and my husband screaming at him all of a sudden they were able to move us into a hotel. 4/28/14. They don't return phone calls, their adjusters lie. They are rude and this has been the worst experience of my life.

We finally moved home 1/31/15. It was and still is a nightmare. My contents were ruined due to mold contamination. My belongings sat in pods for months. There was no help or guidance during my claim. I do what they tell and that's not good enough and then they tell me something else. They are giving me the run around with my contents now. They told me to get a report and letter from my hygienist and they will follow that. Then they didn't like what he said so they send in their hygienist who says the same thing regarding contents. That wasn't good enough so now they send contents that can't be restored to be cleaned.

My cost of living receipts get lost, denied with my daughter's name circled... not covered... sometimes they cover her and sometimes they don't depending on the adjusters mood. I actually had to ask for my 2nd adjuster to be removed off my claim because he was lying so much and was so rude. Any of the companies working for me who had to reach out to him couldn't believe how rude and unprofessional he was.

The first adjuster was fired and the supervisor who originally told us my home was cleared of mold was taken off my claim. I've suffered emotionally, physically and the stress I have to endure to this day is just wrong. My family had to suffer and be displaced. The only reason why things started being addressed on this is because I went to a manager and the presidential team. The manager has been doing what he can to get this resolved. He appointed a very nice adjuster to work with me on my contents but then they put me in the siu. Me? They ruin my life and then they want to investigate my contents.

I had a dumpster in front of my home and was going to get fined. I spoke with the Presidential team and the manager that I needed my adjuster to come out and see what contents were being thrown out. He never came!! Discussing with the lady ** from presidential, we gave the adjuster ample time to come. She even asked me to hold off till a certain date and I did. Still no adjuster came to see my contents and the dumpster left. The two people I work with now are very nice. They are trying to help and trying to cover up a lawsuit at the same time.

I find out now from the company they sent to check my home for mold was never sent there for mold. That company also told me that Liberty mutual told them no observation holes. How does a company clear a home of mold with no testing from a hygienist? They lied. Nothing excuses this company leaving my family in a home with mold to die. They jeopardized our health. I was so sick all the times as were my children. We were breathing in toxic mold!

This company is about saving money they don't care about lives. The one good manager and adjuster and a caring lady from the presidential team can't make up for what this company did to me. They ruined my life, I'm depressed, my six year old is still in therapy. We lost irreplaceable belongings and thanks to the toxic mold we will forever have to worry about underlying medical conditions. Three good workers in one huge company is horrible. This company prides itself on caring

So far I only dealt with 3 caring people who are too good to work for this hideous company liberty mutual. How does anyone leave people in a house with mold to die? Not once, about 4 times. Very sad! My baby would wake up at night choking asking for her nebulizer! Don't use this company! Worst company, they don't care about people. Again the two good adjusters that I have dealt with are just too good to work there!

I made a claim to Liberty Mutual for my TV that fell off the wall and got damaged. They told me even though I had personal property coverage, and additional replacement coverage for that property it was still not covered?? Then they started naming off perils that would have been covered such as a airplane hitting the house and damaging my TV. What are the odds of that? About the same odds of them paying a claim I guess.

They made excuse after excuse on why I was not covered, just so they wouldn't have to pay the claim. They indicated that I should have bought a all risk coverage for my personal property, and that would have covered my situation, of course at more cost. I was already paying $29.00 a month for renter's insurance which was a rip off already. Further they didn't even offer me the all risk coverage when I signed up. When I mentioned this to the representative he identified that not all locations even offer that coverage.

They are just a bunch of thieves committing fraud on the large scale. They have no problem stealing my money in payments but yet they won't actually insure me when things happen. That's false advertisement. Also not offering me required coverage and then denying my claim based on coverage they didn't offer is a complete scam.

My 1st year premium was reasonable, but when it got renewed they bumped it up by almost 50% and told be that it was because my home no longer qualified for a new home discount. Next year they bumped it up another 30-40% with no reason given. So, in a matter of 2 years my premiums went up from roughly $1100 to $2200, despite no claims or change in my credit profile.

I had enough and decided to cancel my policy on 10/22/2014. I was told a check would be mailed out to me and was asked to verify my address. After 1 month, and no refund i decided to call them again for the money and was told that it probably got lost in the mail and they would re-issue a check. Then again after 1 month i called them telling i did not have the check and they told me that they would send it out again and asked me to verify my address again. This happened once again and i asked them to send my refund by certified mail or priority mail so that it could be tracked and they refused.

Today i called them again as its been over a month and now they tell me that the checks were being sent to my old address, though I am not sure why as i verified my address each time i called. And of course this time around also they promise I will get the refund but will not send my refund by certified mail. Stay away from this company. I was also mad that Geico set me up with them as they apparently have a reputation for this. I then called Farmers and they looked at the house and said they didn't know why I was dropped. I refi-ed with a new company a few months back. At the time I refi-ed, the lender wanted to include my insurance payments in my monthly payment. I was not keen on that as I knew I needed to look at another company but was not ready to do that yet. They said that would not be a problem - I could change any time.

On Oct 17 I went online to get an estimate from Liberty Mutual. The quote came in twice as high as my current policy though I was eligible for two separate discount programs. I called the company and realized I needed to get information from my Condo Association before proceeding and said I would be in touch when I got that. I received three emails from LM stating I needed to sign the application or I could not be insured. I figured this was an online auto generate thing and waited for my information from the condo association.

On October 30, I got a letter from my lender, saying they had cancelled my other insurance and sent payment to the new one, LM!!!! I knew I had signed nothing with them so could not understand how this could happen. I spent a very sleepless night stewing on this until I could make calls the next pm... thinking my home was now uninsured! The lender says they are acting according to 'a new law' and are obliged to make a payment to an insurance company that submits an invoice without ever contacting the homeowner to ensure they have authorized this.

This is appalling! This is of concern as it is a huge loophole for the 'shady' to take advantage of. In my case I did resolve the quote with LM in one phone call and and got a better deal than before. The lady I spoke to is local and gave me her extension so I can deal with her directly in the future. So...I am very happy with LM but not so happy that they billed before I authorized. The fault is on both parties and yet on neither as they had acted according to their company policy and the law. My advice to fellow consumers is not to do any online applications for Insurance. Imagine if I had price-checked four companies? What kind of mess would that be?

I bought a home for cash and set up conventional homeowners insurance with a million dollar blanket policy with Liberty Mutual before escrow closed. I was completely honest with the Liberty Mutual agent. I told him I bought an older bank-owned home and was immediately going to start renovations. The home was in livable condition, heat, air, water, electricity, showers, toilets, windows, but I wanted to personalize it. I told him, in detail, everything I was going to upgrade. Single panel windows to double pane. Sliding door to French doors. New kitchen and baths. New tile throughout. Etc. Also was honest in telling him that since the home was older and bank-owned and had been sitting on the market for a while the outside needed painting but that the roof was still in good condition.

I also had a thorough home inspection before purchase stating the house was perfectly livable. I offered to send in a copy. When the inspector came out, my six-man crew was working on the house. Samples of my choices of paint colors were already on every side of the house. Several windows and the French doors were already in. New materials were stacked in the carport. It was obvious the house was being upgraded, and because of the size of my crew it was obvious the job would be finished quickly. Liberty Mutual cancelled my homeowners policy because of cracked paint on the fascia. I truly believe if my painter was painting at the time of inspection, I would have been canceled for a ladder hazard. Or paint can debris. Or unauthorized use of a tarp. I'm beyond livid!

Needless to say, I won't be using Liberty Mutual for my insurance needs.

I secured my Liberty Mutual Policy through my auto insurance provider, GEICO. I enjoyed the use of my policy until I moved residences to another state. Liberty Mutual was unable to transfer my policy to my new home, and they closed my policy in June. Apparently they did not charge the final amount to my credit card on file, nor did they send me a notice that I would have to pay a closing amount. The final payment was due on 7/2/2014. On 7/25/2014 a credit collections agency sent me a notice for the $30 remaining balance.

It is OUTRAGEOUS that they would refer this to a collections agency. A collection on your credit report for any small amount will result in a HUGE ding to your credit for MANY years unless you go through a lengthy dispute process with all three collections agencies. A representative has told me that their policy is to send anything more than 40 days after billing (not due date, billing date) to collections. This is an abusive practice, and I will not do any further business with this company due to this policy.

I called Liberty Mutual and I told the agent when I called that I was only shopping for quotes so I could compare prices. The agent, "Nicole" gave me a quote and got some other information from us. After we hung up, about 10 minutes later I get an email from LM telling me my policy had been issued and to please log in and pay the premium. I emailed "Nicole" back and told her I told her I was only shopping, and that we had decided to go with another carrier.

A few days later, I get another email from LM telling me to log in and pay the premium. Three days after that, an agent calls and tells me "welcome to Liberty Mutual!" to which I tell her we don't want insurance through LM, we are going with Progressive and I asked her to please remove us from their system. She said she would. A week later, we get a phone call from our mortgage agency saying Liberty had faxed them a copy of our policy with them and billed them for $1700.00. This whole thing screwed up our closing date because the mortgage company thought we were going with progressive like we told them we decided! We obviously did NOT pay their stupid policy, and I called once again and told them under no uncertain terms that we do NOT want their insurance!

What a terrible terrible way to do business. Trying to FORCE someone into buying insurance! "Nicole" needs to be FIRED if she can't understand the difference between a QUOTE and not "Omg! Sign me up!" Beware! Don't even bother calling this shame of a company. $1700.00 for homeowner insurance. Uh yeah, no. Progressive was $704.00!

I was speaking to a friend of mine and he told me many insurance companies get you to do work on your home prematurely (before they will cover you) to avoid costly claims in the future. They referred to this as being preventative. Is this widespread and is it legal?

I have been a liberty mutual customer since 1996 with my homeowner's policy. Over the years I've had 2 small claims; minor damage for hurricane sandy, and a stolen laptop--with $1000 deductible, their out of pocket was minimal. Our payments are made directly to our mortgage holder, so we never write a check and the renewal is automatic. Unfortunately we were very naive, and assumed we were working with a well established, respectable company, assuming they would be competitive with other companies. Our rates increased 10-20% a year, until the declaration was close to $6000, at which point I called to question why? With little prodding from me, they were able to cut my premium by more than 50%; presumably with the same coverage. This year again they raised my premium by close to 12% (one year it was over 20%), and I called again after reviewing my records. To see market costs, I procured a half dozen bids, based on the same coverage I had in my LB policy. The highest bid I received was @ $1200. When I look back over the history, I feel like a moron for not soliciting quotes each year.

When I confronted customer service, they agreed that it was a terrible thing, that it is all done by computer, which seems to have gotten out of control. They apologized, reiterated that it was my responsibility to deny or accept the declaration as it was sent, that while they can see that I was grossly overcharged, there is no going back for reparations nor forward except the current year, that's company policy. I probably have no legal recourse, and amazed that they can admit to (in my mind, fraud) the fact that it should have been less. It's the computer's fault. It was like in the movies, corporate doublespeak denying any responsibility at all. If you have or are considering Liberty Mutual, do not rely on their integrity. Get new competitor quotes every year, or better yet don't do business with thieves.

My prior policy had scheduled jewelry with a $10,000 limit. Here is where I need to add that I was a claims adjuster for a different insurance company for 20 yrs and so I know about coverage and limits.

At the time that I purchased the policy, my father had just had a stroke and I was out of state. When my agent called me, she said that all I had to do was e-sign the documents online and it was all taken care of. Under the duress, I neglected to read the entire 20 page document and sent it back, thus accepting the policy. Even after showing them proof of my prior insurance and what coverage I had and also expected to have, I was told, sorry, too bad! I will tell everyone not to insure with Liberty Mutual. I filed a claim with local LM office and had the roof inspected, only to get the news the roof needed to be replaced. LM sent out an adjuster, she looked at the damage and confirmed the interior had water damage, cause by ice dams. Ice dams are locations on the roof where water freezes, then melts, and refreezes. In the meantime, I called the local LM sales agent asking for his help to have the roof replaced. Answer: "we don't cover roofs which are more than 20 years old," which happens to be the age of my roof. Asked him where this rule is stated in my policy, answer; "it was in your original package." Note: original package, which just happened to be 20 years ago. Told agent I don't have those records. He stated he would have to look for them in the LM system.

That was 3 weeks ago, asked him where, where in my policy does it state LM does not cover roofs which are more than 20 years old. Several days later, I received a multi-page document which is nothing more than a copy, of my automatic renewal (which is another issue). Last week, I got a call from a LM employee, who was told I had a question about where my policy states, "we LM don't cover roofs which are more than 20 years old," He directed me to look under "perils". I cannot find any statement under perils, or in the entire policy, which declares, roofs are not covered.

Someone came out and did the measurements, pictures, etc. A couple of weeks after that, we received a letter stating they were canceling our policy because we weren't honest in our initial statement. They said we had 3 horses instead of 2. Not true. Seriously, she took pictures of them. So my husband calls, talks to our agent and she says she will see what she can do. Weeks pass and they say they have to send out another person to take pictures, etc. due to the fact they had to cancel the first policy and issue a new one.

We get a phone call a couple of weeks later saying they are going to cancel us because we heat our house with the wood burner more than 30% in the winter AND that the chimney hadn't been cleaned in the last year. Funny thing the wood burner is brand new and hadn't even been here 6 months when they came out. We even discussed the wood burner with them prior to all of this. They assured us it wasn't a problem as long as it was professionally installed, which it was. Seems they're just looking to drop us for any reason. Kind of funny the wood burner wasn't an issue first round. Would not recommend this company to anyone and we are filing a formal complaint with the insurance commissioner.

Liberty Mutual has been great in regards to cashing my policy checks and raising my rates yearly, despite the fact that my FICO score is 780, and I have never had a claim for auto or home in my life. But this civility to me ended when my HVAC units were destroyed in a hailstorm. Despite the fact that 4 (very legitimate) HVAC contracts and LM investigator stated that the units were unrepairable, LM claimed that they would not replace (with like units as per policy) but only pay for repair. In addition, even worse, they wanted to "depreciate" the repair by 70% despite that I had a rider which specifically stated that there was NO DEPRECIATION. They also said that if I did not like their computations that I could sue them.

After several emails where I basically told them to go ** themselves, the next day they had an agent come to my office with a check of 70% depreciation and less the $1,000.00 and attempted to force it upon me. I THREW THE SOB OUT OF MY OFFICE. In a attempt to compromise, I tried to get the 4 HVAC contractors to write an estimate to repair. Each one told me there was no repair - that the units were done for. The next day I emailed to LM and their ** a notice that, as per all contractors' advice that I would pay for the installation of 2 new units, and seek reimbursement for the costs plus interest @ 7.8% until they paid me in full.

I filed a claim for wind damage Dec 15, 2013. I was passed from a claims adjuster to a field adjuster. In March I finally received a summary of damages with what was supposed to be paid out but was told that I wouldn't receive all the money (recover depreciation). I finally received a check made payable to me and Vystar Credit Union. I attempted to cash the check at the branch in Green Cove Springs and was told that I needed to have the work done before they would cosign the check with me. I went to a branch in Jacksonville and they had no problem cashing the check for me. However, that's a complaint for another day.

After I received several bids, all of them were far more than what the check was sent for which meant that I had to come out of pocket and be reimbursed. The claim included damage coverage for the roof and inside paint damage. I called the adjuster and let him know what was going on and obtained his fax number. After receiving a paid in full receipt from the roofing contractor, I asked for a certificate of completion. He told me that I only needed to fax the paid in full receipt and that would be sufficient. Needless to say that the adjuster insisted that the roofing contractor didn't know what he was talking about. On top of this, I paid over 1000.00 out of my pocket that I took from my mortgage to pay for my roof because I was expecting to get this check that I was due.

Wouldn't you know that until I pay more money out of pocket to get the other work finished, I can not recoup anything that I have spent or collect on the money that I am supposedly due? I say supposedly due because after this, I don't believe a thing David ** with Liberty Mutual has to say. They know what the industry standard is and should have been on hand to write the full check to the roofing contractor or should have sent enough money, without me having to come out of pocket a dime. Not only is this bad business, this is shady business. I have been with this company for 14 years and when I need them to do their job as my insurance company, I am hosed. I don't know how far my complaint will go, but I am telling any and everyone that will listen.

From the perspective of a customer, this is wrong on every level. From a business standpoint, I guess they get to keep money that I am owed because it is going to take me a while to dig myself out of the hole they put me in and I have no idea when I will have the money to get my other repairs done. As a widow and a single mother that works full time, I have to spend my money wisely. This company has lost my trust and I have nothing good to say about them or this experience.

We have had Liberty Mutual since September 2008 and was attracted to this company because the rate of $667 for first year. This was fairly competitive compared all others we found. In February 2009 we had to make a claim (small one) - water leaked from bathroom and destroyed sheet rock. Total payout was $400. Renewal time in 2009 our policy had been rated and we paid $767 for the year. Unfortunately we had another water leak in July 2010 between two bathroom walls which resulted in water "seeping" under hardwood floor in entire downstairs area before it was caught. This claim was about $4400. I was told by the LM adjuster that this leak (as well as the first leak) was because of "builder error" because of nails piercing water lines and the nails eventually deteriorating causing the leaks. This time when policy renewal time came around in 2010 our premium more than doubled to $1648. We were shocked but continued our coverage.

In 2011 our premium again increased to $1744 and again in 2012 to $2140 annually! By this time I'm starting to panic because mortgage payment escrow had jumped nearly $200 a month! The phone calls to LM started! I was told I had to "wait it out" and get out of that "5 year window" of having a claim before rates would decrease! They also had increased my "dwelling" replacement cost over $100K in just 5 years without explanation! To my surprise and after several phone calls and questions my policy increased yet again this year to $2202 annually! Upon checking on coverage elsewhere I was advised that Liberty Mutual should not have rated my policy because these claims were not my fault. It was further explained by this insurance professional that my claims with Liberty Mutual had been subrogated which LM never advised me of!

The customer service at Liberty Mutual is lacking. In my opinion they are a bunch of financial bullies! I have obtained BETTER, more adequate coverage elsewhere at less than 1/3 the premium I WAS paying those crooks! ($602 annually). STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!

Liberty stated they were not going to pay because Paul Davis company was responsible. Unfortunately we had to let Paul Davis come back out and they stopped one leak in the drain and said there were new leaks in the cast iron pipe they put down. Liberty Mutual tacked on a $3000.00 a year surcharge to my homeowner's policy, raising my premium from $1092.00 to $4554.00 annually. I did not receive a letter of intent that they were going to do this. I found out when my mortgage payment double from $745.00 to 1449.00. Since I have an impound account, my bank (Wells Fargo) went ahead and paid the increase, then of course, to avoid future impound shortages, started collecting an additional $329.00 a month to the $329.00 they needed to pay for the increase in premium. My house is now in foreclosure and I am going to lose it, not because I can't make my mortgage payment, because of my insurance company's surcharge. Liberty Mutual's reason for surcharge? Because I made a claim in 2011 for water damage from a leaky roof. They assessed the damage to the room and cut me a check for $2800.00 to repair the sheet rock, etc.

Obviously, I dropped Liberty Mutual, but the damage is already done because my bank paid the increase and I now owe them. Wells Fargo will not adjust my payment to reflect the amount I owe to my impound account, they will just give me a refund after the year is up. Great. I can make my mortgage payment, but I can't make it with the additional $704.00 increase for the impound account!

On April 5, 2013, I had my pre-inspection with One Hour Air Conditioning and Heating for my air conditioners before the beginning of the summer months. At that time, they put in a new condenser fan motor which cost me $425.00. The repairman wrote on the receipt “Spring Maintenance - fan capacitor reading 50% under rating, for motor running high amps”. Also, I have two units that were put in the same day and time back in 2004. I have had no problems with the other unit.

Then on Friday, May 31st, I got home from work and heard a noise. I thought it might have been the fan in my son’s bathroom, so I went into the house and the bathroom light was out so the noise wasn't coming from there. I put my purse down and went back out into the garage so that I could see if I could hear the noise again. Sure enough the noise started again, and I knew immediately that it was my air conditioner. As I am walking through the house to get to the unit outside, I called One Hour Air and had a lady on the phone and was telling her what was going on. She said to go back in and turn the thermostat off. As I am turning to go back, I hear this explosion and turned around; and I had smoke coming out of my air conditioner unit. It was the same spot that the repairman had worked on back on April 5th. The lady on the phone told me to go back and shut the switch off by the unit which is attached to the house. She said that she would send someone out that evening to look at it.

The repairman came and looked at the unit and then told me that the compressor burned (which happens to be what they repaired in April). He told me to get the parts to replace the burned ones would cost me around $2,800.00 and that he suggested getting a new unit. On my receipt he wrote the following: “Diagnosed - compressor over amping, burned hard start kit and dual run cap for D/S unit. Installing new 5 ton split system.” To me this was a unit that didn't have the life expectancy that it should have. My other unit is running fine, and like I said earlier was put in the same day as the one that blew up.

While the repairman was sitting there and giving me the new prices for a new unit, I called my homeowners insurance company (Liberty Mutual). I felt that this would be covered under my policy because it is connected to the house. It’s not like your refrigerator, stove, etc. that is just sitting there and not physically attached to the house. They took my information and said someone would be getting a hold of me in a couple of days.

June 4th, I sent a copy of all the receipts to my agent at Liberty Mutual, and we were emailing me back and forth asking for phone numbers for One Hour Air so that she could talk to the repairman. June 6th, I get a call from the agent, and she told me that they couldn't cover the repairs because it is not a part of my policy. I couldn't believe that because I specifically told them when I signed up for the policy what I was looking for everything to be covered because I was a widow with a handicapped young man and needed to make sure that I was covered on things that I didn't know how to repair.

Then on June 10th, I get a letter in the mail from Liberty Mutual and it was a slap in my face. In the letter, the agent stated “Based on our investigation into your claim, we regret to inform you that we cannot afford coverage for the replacement of your HVAC system because your policy does not afford coverage for mechanical breakdown or wear and tear.” Really, “they cannot afford coverage” - what about the everyday person. Recently, we had unusual cold weather as the weather man stated we were colder than Alaska for two days straight and below freezing for several days after that. This started on the January 14, 2013. On Saturday, 01/19/13, we noticed there was not enough Hot Water from our water heater. After inspection, we realized it needed water heater repairs which were finalized. After this, two plumbers determined that we had a Slab Leak in the foundation concrete. The foundation is part of the house and therefore would be covered by the homeowner's insurance, but when Jeffrey **, insurance adjuster, came to inspect it, he took photos and then denied the claim. We have found out that taking photos is illegal if a claim is denied via a US Marshall in which we could possibly have several employees arrested in violation of the law.

Our true complaint is this company doesn't seem to want to cover anything in this policy. The house is on the lot and the mortgage includes the lot when you purchase the home. This leak is on the foundation of the house, yet they make every excuse not to pay the claim. What angers us more is that they knew before they came to my home that they were going to deny the claim. Yet, they took photos and then told us it was not covered. The news channel has reported that many residence have suffered with pipe breakage during this cold spell. We covered our outside pipes to protect them. But this is below the foundation concrete which the house sits on. There is no way of knowing that this could happen. Yet, they denied this claim. So now, I am in my second week of no hot water simply because Liberty Mutual takes 3-5 days to send an adjuster and obviously I have to pay for it myself.

Whether or not this gets resolved from Liberty Mutual Group, I caution the General Public against purchasing their homeowner's insurance from them. Also for the general public's knowledge, I am continuing to file legal complaints with the state insurance fund, Attorney General, BBB, and blast it out to millions of potential clients in an effort to warn them of such pandemonium if they were to file a claim with this ruthless Liberty Mutual Group. Oh, and if you are wandering about the first claim, they denied it was two feet from my front door, the cold water inlet pipe that feeds the house water. They did the same thing, stalled for days before they denied it by phone on that particular instance. So we went a few days without any water in the house. They also wanted to come and take photos at that claim and I denied them any admittance to do so, because it is illegal for them to post to your file without paying the claim.

We had water damage to our kitchen, which was reported on November 20, 2012. There was extensive water damage on the interior walls, cabinets and wood floors. Wall, including appliances like microwave, refrigerator, oven, cabinets and countertops, was removed. The mold was removed two weeks after. Since then, the wall has been bare exposing electrical wiring and plywood for over one month. Cold air has been seeping through the wall. Our insurance adjuster said he wasn't aware that the first contractor had backed out of the job. He stated he doesn't listen to his entire messages, therefore he never got our message informing him about the contractor stating there was too much controversy with the insurance agent. Therefore he was backing out of the job.

He had a second contractor come out. He also gave him an estimate. He has now received two estimates from two separate contractors, yet he has failed to approve repairs as per the estimates. We scheduled a date to meet the insurance agent and the contractor. The appointment was scheduled for today, December 28, 2012. No one called to reschedule nor did anyone show up. I have been with Liberty Mutual for about 4 years now. They had great rates and were easy to deal with. Unfortunately, my home was affected by Hurricane Sandy this year. Parts of my siding and fascia blew off due to the high winds. Today, 12/03/2012, I received a letter stating that my damage was not caused by the storm and they were closing my claim. Huh, that's it, no explanation, no "well you know the siding may not have been installed properly." Come on, really nothing. All that is known to me is before storm, I had siding, after storm I do not.

And when I called to start my claim, they told me I had a $1,000 deductible so far because they would have to check to see if NJ had a hurricane clause. Since when are we a hurricane state and why wasn't I told that I might be out of luck if a hurricane takes away my home (venting now)? Okay, everyone, please be careful and read your policies completely. Make sure you are fully protected even if it costs a little more. I am attaching the email I sent to them as well:

I had damage caused to my home due to Hurricane Sandy. I had one of your representatives come look at the damage. It clearly shows siding and fascia missing from the side of the home and some parts hanging. I received a letter today that states that the damage was not caused by the storm. Hmm, let me think, high winds did not cause damage to my home that clearly was not damaged before. I would like a second person to come to my home during a time that I am available and clearly explain how the damage to my home was not caused by the storm. Please contact me via email so that we can address this matter promptly as now with the winter coming not having the siding on some portions of my home will cause more damage that I will hold Liberty Mutual responsible.

On 06/29/2012, West Virginia was struck by what was later called "land hurricane." It sounded like a jet engine. We had hail the size of golf balls, high winds, tearing of shutters and fascia. Liberty Mutual came out, said everything was great on the roof. I hired workers to replace the fascia and put up my shutters and they refused to step on my roof saying it was tore all to pieces. I got 3 different estimates by 3 different contracts, consulted 2 more. I even appealed to my agent and the team leader, Mr. Shawn **. Bottom line, they claimed it was all a sudden failure of the materials.

I had pictures taken. They sent out a hostile local adjustor and as he departed, I have 7 days to give you a report/decision by statute! I got it from his boss last night and it was dated 10/10/2012. The last phrase referred to a section saying I couldn't sue! There was a storm and some shingles flew off into the neighbor's yard; a stack said the neighbor. And after we bought the house, the house must have shifted and the bathroom sank in the corner about an inch. Liberty Mutual sent someone who seemed to be a professional to inspect the damage from Southern Ohio. I, myself, could not see the roof. The inspector said there needs to be 12 or 14 shingles to be replaced, but never told us which ones to replace. The inspector took pictures and never shared with the homeowner. So this could mean, no matter which shingles needed to be replaced, we may never replace the correct shingles for further excuses they don't want to pay.

So, I showed the inspector the bathroom where the floor sank about an inch. This inspector said the contractors built it that way; drop of an inch that's why it is that way. Then, I took this inspector outside where the bathroom was and showed him the crack where the house shifted, and he said it was due to the house settling. So, it had nothing to do with the bathroom settling, even though it was the same spot as the bathroom? I got this letter where Liberty Mutual was not going to cover the shingles because of the $500 deductible and never mentioned the bathroom and the crack outside of the bathroom.

I own a 3-story house with a 2nd level deck that used to be a sunroom. My house is very old and the main crossboards are the floorboards for the 2nd level. A few weeks ago, the deck buckled and the top 2 levels of my house shifted causing a great deal of damage. The deck needs to be replaced to stop further damage and for safety. It is our only exit except on the first floor and in the current condition, the deck is not useable. From the deck buckling, it has caused the stairs to the 3rd floor (my children's bedrooms) to separate, caused my overhangs to all shift, several falling off the house. The floors buckled and it is clearly seen right through the carpet in multiple rooms. Even the roof has collapsed in multiple spots, and it has caused water damage and buckled paneling in the first floor. Also, the doors are no longer shutting properly.

We called our insurance company (who we have had since we bought the house) and they sent an agent out who says, "Sorry, we will not replace it or take care of any of the damage except replacing the outlet and paneling on one wall in the first floor". I said, "What if my house continues to shift and collapses? Lives could be lost and the house destroyed." He says, "Even if that happens, we will not be responsible because you need to secure the deck". Then what the heck are insurance companies for?

My house is collapsing. My children's lives are at risk just being here and they will not help! This company has no problem taking my money every month and is supposed to protect their customers when problems arise. If a pipe bursts, they will take care of all damage, but my roof is caving in and my house is collapsing and they won't do anything!

They advised me I had storm damage from severe storms the previous year. I contacted Liberty Mutual because they were my insurance company at the time the storms had hit. I advised them that my roofer wanted to be present when they (Liberty Insurance) inspected the roof. The adjuster (Daniel **) told me he likes to wait till spring to do roof inspections. Both my roofer and I were concerned the roof might not wait until spring.

They sere notified about the problem in January 2012. I called him a couple of weeks later and told him of my concerns. He called my roofer and told them that he would be out in about an hour. My roofer went to my house and the adjuster was already done inspecting my roof. He lied about the time he would be there. He told my roofing company he was only going to buy half the roof and left. I got a check of $1200.00 for a $3700.00 roof! The breakdown of the costs did not cover everything and they (Liberty Mutual) refused to send me a detailed breakdown.

They only say everything is rolled into the cost breakdown. My roofer advised me that they have never had a breakdown that does not itemize everything. I contacted **'s supervisor, John **. Trying to talk to him is worse than **. He plays phone tag and refuses to send the breakdown of costs as well. My roofer tried to talk with him. He threatened them by stating that if my roofer tries to give me a discount so I don't have to pay my deductible, he will have her arrested because a new law is going to be passed for such acts. This guy has no leg to stand on. My roofer said half a roof is no good and they cannot replace only half a roof because they cannot match the shingles or the type used. The insurance company I have now would like to meet with Liberty Mutual, my roofer and I to try and work things out, but they refuse to talk. I advised him that I will file a law suit—and I mean it. Liberty Mutual should be sued for their illegal practices. My policy was paid up at the time and they don't want to replace the roof because I am no longer a customer of theirs.

I will get all the figures, but it was roughly $1,000 a year, 10 monthly payments.

I called Liberty Mutual and they said, “We are dropping you.” So then we hurried up and got New Jersey homeowner’s insurance at the price of $640.00 for one year. Wells Fargo kept sending me homeowner’s insurance papers at the price of $3,000 plus a year. Now, they want $1,083.00 for 3 months. I told them I am contacting a banking commission. I can see $100 a month, but not this. Please help me with this issue. I have no money to use an attorney. Please help me.

I am the owner of TriCounty roofing. I have a contract with Angela ** of ** *** dr. Langcaster, TX to repair her roof. She contacted Liberty Mutual for a meet between my company and the assigned adjuster for Liberty Mutual at the client's home. My supervisor arrived on time to see another roofing company called by the adjuster Jay **. I called Jay and asked him why he had another roofing company at my job site. He stated it was for a ladder assist to get on the roof. I asked him if the customer had told him our company would be there to assist and meet him and he said yes. So I asked him why he called the other company and he said Liberty Mutual wanted him to call them because they didn't want him on roofs. I asked him if my roof getting paid for was determined by my competitor. He said no. He went off my competitor's info but he determined it.

So I asked him if he got on the roof and he said yes. So why did he need another roofing company? Of coarse, the roof was not approved (no surprise there) since my competitor wasn't getting it! I called Hancock Roofing and they knew my customer's claim number which is confidential and they weren't giving permission by the homeowner to have! Hancock said they don't do roofs but their website shows they do. They said they only do the adjusting for the insurance companies. I asked her if their guy was a licensed adjuster and she said not necessarily. I went to the BBB website and couldn't find Hancock Roofing as a member.

So in short, I have been a licensed contractor for 23 years, BBB rated A+. I have licensed adjuster on staff. I even have a public adjuster on staff! But your insurance company calls my competitor and has him show up at my customer's house for a supposed ladder assist when we have a roofer with a ladder there without consulting my customer or me about it. The roofing company they called says they aren't real roofers nor insurance adjusters and help determined whether my customer has enough damage for a roof! I am not happy. Then your adjuster says he doesn't have to discuss what he did at my job site. But he had no problem discussing it with Hancock Roofing! Tomorrow, I'm contacting the insurance board in Austin and filing a complaint then my attorney! If you would like to discuss this, email me **@yahoo.com.

We had a flood during Hurricane Irene. We were passed from one agent to another. We waited forever. The agent to come and view the damage finally arrived and took some photos, in his rubber boots in our basement. We tried and called a water mitigation company to come and get the water out of the basement only to have Liberty Mutual tell them to leave. Yup - three months later of phone calls, jumped the agent, conflicting agents, you name it. My favorite tactic of Liberty is not to answer a direct question.

After the basement was dried out, we got no help from Liberty at all. Thanks. They came again for another inspection, and then sent another check for mold mitigation. So, you would think at this point we could hire someone as they keep on telling us to hire (you can use whoever you want and feel comfortable with - Liberty Mutual speaks). Meaning, we just won’t pay you for it, even if you provide proof of photos, documents, and all. We decided on a whim to throw you way. So, off we go to finally three months after the fact to remove the rotten carpet, wood, drywall, and all the other smelly, stinking mess of our basement.

I keep in touch with Liberty Mutual. I keep them posted on the problems they are finding when they are ripping out the walls, that they left to sit in water, for three months, and some of the electric issues. I got nothing from Liberty, but I do get the fun time of getting handed off to about 6 different agents, telling me that they will look into it and never hearing back. I would like to point out, the agents themselves at Liberty Mutual when cornered or asked a direct question, will throw the "company" under the bus at any opportunity that they get. So, way to support your company!

They sent out another agent, Scott **. He was a jerk. This was onsite agent number 5 coming to the house. He refused to speak with me but only to the new contractor. We had to fire our old contractor as they never showed up. Mr. Scott was there to bull and harass the construction crew and be a jerk, end of story. He was trying to tell me I shouldn't have done any work at all. I was “What are you talking about? 4 months is a long time to not do anything. You have all the photos.” He then demanded the photos. I asked, didn't he review the file before he came over, because it sure seemed like he didn't? We have tons of photos, before, during, and after.

He also kept telling me he wasn't there to speak with me. This is after he cancelled the appointment with me twice. I asked him to tone down his attitude or else he could leave. He was hostile. I called Liberty Mutual and demanded to speak with a supervisor due to the subcontractor since he wasn't a Liberty Mutual agent. I was then told no, he was there to “inspect" the mold damage. I again said that was done two months ago, and "The agent here doesn't want to speak with me.” Since it’s my house and my claim, he should want to discuss this with me, not my contractor. It seems that Liberty Mutual and Mr. Scott have two different agendas, conflict of interest. Mr. Scott was rude, hostile, and did make his presence known that he was only there to speak with my new contractor.

Liberty stated that Mr. Scott was there to inspect for damage (duh?). Mr. James **, the supervisor, asked us to provide again more photos which we did, and fastpro the mold mitigation company which they can contact. But for Liberty, that would be too easy.

I insured my home with Liberty Mutual/ Geico Insurance Agency back in December 2010 and my Escrow company paid the premium through December 2011. I received a letter in the mail stating my policy had been canceled due to lack of payment. After calling my mortgage lender, I confirmed that they did in fact pay the policy through the end of this year, and that there must be a different explanation. Upon calling Geico/Liberty Mutual, I discovered that an additional $482 was added to my policy for earthquake coverage based on a letter they claim to have sent out. They said that they sent a letter giving me the option to "opt out" of earthquake coverage, and that by not responding or returning the letter, I was opting in. I never received such a letter, nor did my mortgage lender, who paid the policy to begin with.

I never requested, authorized, or received any notification about earthquake insurance, so it's absolutely absurd of them to take the money I paid to cover the insurance in full for a year, and use it at their own will. I spent over 7 hours today making phone calls back and fourth to Geico/Liberty Mutual trying to resolve this matter, and was told that since I didn't return the letter the coverage is automatically valid. After expressing my frustrations numerous times I was told that if I signed the letter now, opting out, they would send it to Liberty Mutual's underwriters and get it rolled back and my policy could be re-instated. I sent the letter back promptly via fax, only to be told that they for sure sent the letter back in February and they could not assist me any further as they were not willing to roll the insurance back.

I have never been treated with such disregard and disrespect by a company in my life. They also told me that if I could prove I had earthquake insurance through another company that they would consider reinstating my policy. They did confirm that they did not receive authorization from me, however not returning the letter was "authorization enough". They basically stole $500 from me for coverage I did not request or authorize. And now I am left without coverage, and re-instating coverage is set to cost me $500 out of my Escrow account, which of course raises my mortgage payment to cover the lost.

My policy got cancelled, the "full year payment" I made to Geico/Liberty Mutual was used in 6 months by them adding on coverage i did not authorize. I had to pay another company nearly twice as much to get new homeowner's insurance. I contacted the Washington State Office of Insurance Commissioner and presented all the evidence (the discrepancies, lies, and downright disregard) and they determined there was nothing they could do. My husband and I are in the mindset to now pursue them legally.

I applied for home owners insurance with Liberty Mutual because my rate with Farmers was up for renewal and Liberty Mutual offered a lower rate. Liberty Mutual intercepted my home owners insurance impound monies from Chase Mortgage. Next, Liberty Mutual denied the home owners insurance right after they intercepted the money. The reasons for denial were bogus. Liberty Mutual stated that the paint was chipping on our house and that we had vicious dogs on the premises. Firstly, our two dogs collectively weigh less than 15 pounds. One is a miniature long-haired dachshund and the other is a little Havanese poodle who is skinnier than the mini-dachshund! Next, our home is made out of stucco. We have a small dent in the stucco from moving furniture. I polled several competing insurance companies and each one stated that denial of a insurance policies based on chipped paint seems odd. One insurance company went on to say that sometimes when an insurance company doesn't want to write a policy in an area where there have been a lot of foreclosures, they come up with bogus denial reasons.

The consequences of Liberty Mutual's denial of our homeowners insurance has resulted in "red flag" so that whenever we try to obtain new coverage it appears like we have done something wrong or that we are an insurance "risk."

To make matters worse, Liberty Mutual's interception of the impound account money, created a gap in our home's coverage. We have an impound account that Liberty Mutual cleaned out. They sent us a check but it is less than what we need to come up with to pay for a different home owners policy. We are still trying to obtain new home owners insurance. I would never recommend Liberty Mutual. They are sneaky.

I continued calling them because I was getting angry with the smell and I’m cleaning every week to stop the mold and mildew. Finally, Mr. Karl ** sent his company out in the last week of July. However, the guy sent out by Mr. Karl ** was just the floor specialist so he had no experience with mold.

In the middle of July, they sent out a hygienist who told them that the mold was traveling throughout my house, through the vents, and growing on the floor and wall. They sent me a bogus estimate for $8,300.00 because the estimate was not of anything dealing with my basement.

I then talked to Mr. Karl **’s manager but she didn’t understand me. She called the construction company and they told her that the initial estimate was just for the mold damage. So they sent me another estimate for $6,393.00 in the last week of July.

In August 2, 2011, they sent out a check for $6,393.00. I still questioned the amount they sent out for repairs. The construction company would not send me a copy of the estimate so I had to take the one Liberty Mutual emailed me. Now, they are telling me that the mold is not included in the homeowner policy. They have to send it to their legal team to get the approval.

If Mr. ** had sent out his team from day one, there would not have been mold damage. He is trying to make it my fault. He said that I should have done something so the mold would not occur. I told him that I already spent everything I had to clean, buy fans and borrow dehumidifier. As of August 24, 2011, they still haven’t said anything about the mold damages. I’m having repairs done but I don’t have the funds for mold and mildew cleaning.

I would like to impart some general experience I gained after my house burned down on 09/2009.

If you are not satisfied, then contact your state insurance commissioner. The way Citizens dealt with my claim was like day to night. In 3 days, they had been contacted by the Florida Insurance Regulation department. I was reassigned to the supervisor of claims adjuster. If I gave proper documentation, I was given the money. Citizens was my HO insurance provider. My claim began much like the stories read on this site. I was unemployed also at the time. This ended up being a good thing. I decided to educate myself and manage this claim.

Over the course of 18 months, I learned how to deal with not just Citizens. I learned how to deal with the contractor, city building department, restoration company and many other people eager to get in on collecting as much of the money the insurance was paying as possible. The general attitude is "Hey, we can over charge, do sloppy work, steal personal items, Play Station, TVs, stereo equipment and entire bedroom suites". If you confront them, they will all say, "Hey it's no skin off your back, since the insurance company is paying." Well it's skin off my back, because every dollar you cannot spend will go into your pocket. I have put all my experience into a report that will save people 1000's of dollars, hours of frustration and a road map to recovering from a catastrophic occurrence. You can read more at **.

I received a notice about 6 months ago, saying my premium was going up due to the 2 accidents on 3/17/09. I had many things going on, as I just moved back into my house that burned down on 9/2009. Anyway, I recently looked at my premium. I saw it had just about doubled. I saw that the accident is not even listed on their website. I saw that I did not have 2 accidents on 03/17/09, just one. I talked to someone in claims. They said I was not being held for two 03/17/09 incidents, but that only one caused an 85% increase.

So now I heard a different story from the person I talked to. The website is giving contradicting information. And the notice is stating even another version. I get the feeling nobody really knows what is going on. And as long as I am paying, who cares other than me? So, what is the correct way to find out the truth about what I am getting credit for and caused the increase? Why would it take 2 1/2 years on the 11/11/2008 accident and over 3 years on the 08/27/2007 incident for your company to decide to raise my premium? Also, one is marked open and the other closed. I really get the feeling the right hand has no clue what the left hand is doing. And it is the insured customer that pays the price for a company that looks to be all confused. What would you think if you were getting this type of information? Can you point me in the correct direction as to who I need to contact?

The adjustor was rude when I talked to her on the phone, came to my house a week later, spent less than five minutes, and then explained that Liberty Mutual doesn't cover our pipes leaking. I am very disappointed, especially because the repairman fully expected it to be covered.

This is my only experience with liberty mutual. The employee was rude in both of my interactions with her--practically accusing me of letting my pipes leak so that I could replace my cabinets. And they have collected a good deal of money for absolutely no work.

This company was our homeowner insurance until they refused to live up to their policies. We had hail damage to our roof, air conditioner, and awning. They said we had hail damage but not to the roof. The awning did have a damage, and it is attached to the roof. We had four air conditioning people check our AC unit, and they said it could not be fixed. Liberty Mutual sent someone to check it, and they said it could be "combed out". We were paid for the awning and the roof on the guest house, but not for the roof or AC unit to be "fixed", that came from our own pocket. They disallowed insurance for the roof because they said it was already "old". Also, Mr. ** accused me of insurance fraud and said I got up on the roof and "beat up" the AC unit. Of course, he denies this. So we changed insurance companies, so that if we have something that will happen to our home again, we will be covered. There is no use to pay insurance premiums if it is not going to cover anything. We are senior citizens, and it is not easy for us to come up with money for repairs for things we already paid insurance for.

On November 11, 2008, I paid Liberty Mutual Insurance $1,309.00 for home insurance for a colleague Miss G. of xxx ave., Los Angeles 90068 (this being the insured property). Liberty Mutual (LM) records (and my financial records) will show that LM received payment from me from my UK American Express account. Thereafter, due to some concerns regarding the roof and consequently the policy, Liberty Mutual cancelled the policy and refunded most of the money paid. This refund was, I believe, in the form of a check for the amount of $1,282.74 made out to Miss G. and presented to her Bank of America account on or about 20 March 2009.

My concern is that I, the payor, have never received a cent of this refund and yet it was my money which paid for the insurance. I am incredulous as to what sort of system takes money from one person and refunds it to another. In short, Liberty Mutual made the decision to refund $1,282.74 to a person who had never paid this money in the first place. Notwithstanding any contract between Liberty Mutual and Miss G., the financial transaction existed between Liberty Mutual and me. Therefore, I believe the refund of any money should have been made to me alone. Essentially Liberty Mutual has given money to Miss G. to which she was not entitled.

Don't you just love those Liberty Mutual commercials about being responsible. I have been with Liberty Mutual for over 23 years. I have all my insurance needs fulfilled by them. It has been wonderful sending money to them monthly for that many years until this week when I finally needed them. On April 3rd of this year, a transformer behind my house exploded and the pole caught fire. The fire trucks came and SCE worked all night to restore power to the grid. About noon on Easter Sunday, when my power was not restored, I discovered that the huge power surge had burnt my electrical panel and fried all the electrical wiring in my house. I am told that I am fortunate that my house did not catch fire. SCE told me to submit a claim.

So I called my insurance company, Liberty Mutual, and three days later I was begrudgingly moved into a hotel. The work started on my house about April 16th. On May 2nd, I submitted a list of damaged personal property for Liberty Mutual to review and determine if I was eligible for reimbursement. On May 14, I was informed that I was assigned a new claims adjuster, so I forwarded all the emails I had previously sent to my previous claims adjuster. I have been sending this new adjuster emails saying please give my claim some attention.

On Monday evening, May 24, my adjuster informed me that he has been taking my emails and archiving them and will look at them at the end of the claim. He said he has been busy with other claims and that he will be going on vacation on Thursday and will get back to me next week. How is this being responsible? There is much more to the story than I have included here. I am clearly caught at the mercy of this huge conglomerate in a hotel with my children for the past 50 days.

When I said the increase was more than 20%, the representative then said they increased my coverage every year. It turned out the coverage increase from last year to this year was only $2,000. So they wanted to charge $200 more for $2,000, outrageous. I got a quote from Allstate for only $580 on the same coverage. I overpaid for the last 5 or 6 years for at least $1,000. I have had my homeowner's policy and automobile policies with Liberty Mutual for 20 years. I began construction on a second home in mid-July. Just before the start of construction (early July), I called Liberty Mutual and asked them for a proposal for insurance coverage for our second home. After a lengthy round of questioning, I was given a quote for this coverage. I called Liberty Mutual on August 15 to ask them to proceed with the activation of my new policy request for our second home. As the representative proceeded with our new policy request, she regretted that they would not be able to give us insurance coverage for this house. The reason for this denial was that their researched showed that there was no fire hydrant in our neighborhood and that there was no fire department within five miles of our home. MapQuest is their method of research for determining distances.

I assured them that not only was there a fire hydrant within our subdivision but that the neighborhood's fire hydrant is located on our property line on the street. In addition, I told them I was sure that the fire station was within five miles though I had never confirmed this. The representative's response was that they would research my claims and get back to me later that day. When the representative called back, they confirmed their claims were true that their MapQuest research showed our home was 6.1 miles from the nearest fire station. But they said since I was a long-time customer, they would ask their underwriter for a special request to provide insurance for our new home. I received another call back with news that the underwriter gave special approval but that they would have to charge me a higher premium. In addition to the higher premium, our coverage would be limited compared to the previous quote we received in early July. I told them I disagreed but conceded to the higher rate and reduced coverage since this process had already consumed several hours of my time.

The following weekend, August 22, I took it upon my self to measure the distance from my home to the fire department. It turned out that we have two fire departments near our new home, one is located 4.0 miles away and the other (which also has an EMS) is located 4.5 miles away. As soon as I returned home, I called Liberty Mutual and asked for the manager on duty, so that I could report my findings. I was passed off to an escalator since the managers were too busy. Though I was upset, I calmly gave the escalator the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the two fire departments as well as the measured distances from our new home. I also re-voiced my insistence that there is a fire hydrant on my property line. The escalator apologized and said she would report this to the underwriter and resolve this as soon as possible. She said she would call me no later than Wednesday, August 26, with the proper resolution.

After hearing nothing from Liberty Mutual, I called again on August 29. Since they could not reach the previous escalator, I was told a manager would call me back. After no response for several hours, I called again and was connected with another escalator. I had to start all over again and explain the entire situation to this second escalator. After another hour on the phone, I was again assured the situation would be resolved. To my amazement, much later that evening, the original escalator from the previous week left a message on my voice mail, stating that the underwriter again confirmed through MapQuest that the distance from my home to the nearest fire station is 6.1 miles and that I must have used some type of backwoods shortcut to measure the distance from my home to the fire department and that this route would not be acceptable.

All of Liberty Mutual's claims are absurd. The fact is there are two fire departments less than five miles away from our new home. And the fact is that my subdivision is located directly on the same highway that both fire departments are located, one fire department in one direction and the other in the opposite direction. And there is only one possible route to my home for each fire department. In addition, there is not a single stop light, stop sign, or yield sign on the way of each route and there is only one turn for each route. And finally, I have confirmed the distances in MapQuest and called both fire departments and confirmed the distances with each of them. Every one of these efforts have proven the 4.0-mile route and the 4.5-mile route.

I again called Liberty Mutual and insisted on speaking to a manager (not an escalator) to again explain there are two fire departments within five miles from my new home. After spending another hour with this manager, it became quite clear that all she could do was again send the issue to the underwriter and that the results would be the same - MapQuest would show 6.1 miles from my house to the nearest fire department.

It is also became clear that this is most likely a routine procedure for Liberty Mutual - to ignore a request and then deny the request by misrepresenting their coverage research. Neither Liberty Mutual nor the under writer is even remotely interested in resolving this issue. I can only imagine how many other customers either never check their findings or simply give up trying to negotiate with them. And I can only imagine how much additional revenue is generated from these methods.

We had a water pipe break in our home sometime during the night on 8-13-09. We discovered it first thing in the morning. The insurance company was immediately called, and they dispatched a company out of Vallejo called Rainbow International. This company is owned by Cannady Construction, one of the approved vendors used by Liberty Mutual. Initially, we were happy with the response and cleanup. We were uneasy about the fact that even though the carpets were completely soaked, neither the carpet or pads were removed. Special equipment was brought in to "top dry" (method) our home.

We met with adjuster Andrea on 8-17-09. She walked in the home with the owner of Rainbow International (Cannady Construction). At first, we were comfortable in using the company's suggestion of Cannady Construction. However, during the walk-through of the damage, we became uneasy because of what we observed. Basically, it was the adjuster's opinion that much of the damage did not have to be removed, even though there was obvious staining in the sheetrock of water damage. Grout in the newly installed tile floor in the upstairs bathroom (source of the water leak) was missing, and the floor was slightly raised.

Cannaday Construction was telling the adjuster what work would need to be done, which included his opinion that the floor would have to come up. The adjuster immediately said they were not replacing the floor and indicated the floor needed to be re-grouted. This scenario continued into the downstairs where obvious sheetrock damage was "just going to painted over" and only a small portion of the sheetrock was going to be replaced. There was obvious bubbling in the paper, so we were confused by the unwillingness of the adjuster to replace what we felt need to be replaced. The adjuster was only willing to paint a portion of the front room, even after we explained that we no longer had that paint to just touch it up.

I conducted extensive research on the internet and talked with several restoration companies and contractors. I had two contractors (actually 3 when you include the air conditioning contractor) come in, and all agreed that the carpets should have been pulled, the pads removed, and that all the water-damaged areas should be pulled. Apparently, just because the house was dried, it does not mean there is no moisture present in the inner walls where meters do not accurately read.

The adjuster returned to our property on 8-28-09, this time with her manager accompanying her. From the onset, it was apparent they were here to prove their initial evaluation of the 1st appraisal. Thank God, we had the contractor present whom we have chosen to do the work, because other than changing their opinion on some painting to the living room, they were not going to change their stance.

When we sell our home, we have to disclose that we suffered a loss. How can we sell our home at a later time if we just allow the insurance company to paint over the damage and cover up what happened? We are outraged by the treatment we have received. From the research we have done, it appears what Liberty Mutual is doing is called "low balling" in an attempt to get us to accept inferior repairs to our home, so they do not have to pay for the needed repairs. Their claim that this is merely the investigative and negotiating phase of the claim does not sit well with us. We feel they are basically trying to intimidate us into accepting inferior repairs to our home, and we are outraged.

We have filed a complaint with the California Department of Insurance, but we have reservations as to how well that will be investigated given all the budget cutbacks that have occurred in California. Any suggestions? The dollar amount of the claim is estimated between $20,000 and $25,000. I expect an additional offer, but so far, Liberty Mutual has wanted to pay only $5,000 toward the claim.

When I signed with them, the agent I had came to my house to fill out the paper work. In fact, every time I needed to make a policy change he would come to my house and take care of me in person. I could not be any more happy with them at the time. Then my agent moved up in the company and I got a new agent. I stuck with them another 8 years or so, but noticed that each year my premiums would go up a little, even though I never file a claim, have excellent credit, and no tickets or accidents. So this year, I got fed up with the rates going up every year and decided to call around. I found that I was able to get the same coverage through other reputable companies for up to 40% LESS! That is a huge savings for me! Well, Liberty Mutual just lost a long time customer. Our air conditioner's compressor broke. When it did the water from our air conditioning unit "flooded" our basement. causing damage to our tile floor, carpet, walls, dryer, and some other items. Liberty Mutual sent an independent insurance adjuster, Rick S. He denied our first claim because we weren't available for him to come. Then he denied our second claim (which we didn't even know it was our second claim), because he said he talked to the people that fixed our air conditioner and according to them they said there was not enough water in the unit to cause the damage.

When I had a very heated discussion with Brokaw Air Conditioning, the lady was very sure that there was not enough water that Rick described. She called a manufacturer and found out that the unit on a typical day would pull 12 gallons, which I responded that is plenty of water to cause the damage to our basement, and she said that would not cause 6 inches of water. then I replied there was never 6 inches of water in our basement. Then she told me that Rick S. called and asked if there was enough water in the unit to cause 6 inches of water throughout the entire basement, and of course she said no. I have no idea where he got that there was 6 inches of water in our basement. When he came to my house he would not even discuss the basement with me. He sent me upstairs when I tried to explain to him what happened. When he took pictures of our stuff he kept saying I have never claimed, a futon, a coat, comic books... I don't even know how I am going to do that. On top of that he said he doesn't think he can file more than 10 items, so I stopped writing down what was damaged.

Before we knew that Rick lied to the air conditioner people my husband called and was basically told there was nothing they could because it had been denied, again we didn't even know about the first time. we were told to get a letter from some air conditioner place saying that there is enough water to cause that damage. We tried calling Brokaw but the man who owns it doesn't understand what we are talking about he can't understand why Liberty Mutual is handling this because he works for our home warranty place (he sounded very old I think that is why his wife handles a lot of the phone conversations, but she isn't "qualified" to write anything). Oddly enough when my husband called Liberty Mutual the lady that took the claim said the same thing happened in her basement 3 times because one of her kids kicked off the condensation line, and everything was replaced, no problem 3 times. which my husband can't remember her name but I am sure the conversation should have been recorded.

The lady who is handling our claim, Deborah S., told me there is no way for water to damage 3 rooms. She said I could get Brokaw to send them a letter and she would review it. Then later reiterated that there is no way for it to cause that much damage. She said there was bad rains in the area at the same time. which we did not have anymore problems with water until the unit was fixed like 3 weeks later and then I went down stairs and there was a bunch of water covering the floor, which is why we called a second time because we knew where the water was now officially coming from. before we did not know. We had an electrician come out and check to see if there was something wrong with our box and maybe our sump pump went out. He said that other than some loose wires nothing was wrong with our electrical or the sump pump. all the water in our basement was clean and clear. So it was not ground water. we checked all our pipes leading to out sink and washer and everything is fine. There has only been water in our basement from the condensation line, and since they fixed that last week we have had no water.

It rained a lot in June and there was no water in our house until the air was fixed and back on. I have a hard time believing our case will get a fair review, when deborah S. keeps telling me that there is not enough water to cause the damage. Also, If Rick S. lied about the amount of water in our basement I don't know what else he lied about in the report. I filed a fraudulent case against Rick S. with the commisioners Insurance something something, but guess who handles it when it gets to liberty mutual...Deborah S. I can only imageine how that will go. I am waiting to get a hold of a manager at Liberty Mutual, when I called their system was down and I could not get a name or number to go with our case.

I have contacted Brokaw again and I am waiting a call back. Hopefully I can talk to someone that understands what we are saying. My other concern is that if Rick S. lied about our basement, how many other claims were denied or is this common practice at Liberty Mutual and not limited to just Rick S.. it has been extremely frustrating and this is the reason we have insurance, so when things like this happen then we are covered. Hopefully I didn't forget anything else.

Walls, carpet, tile, dryer, dehumidifier (which was not in use it was for our condo), and misc. stuff that was on the floor in the basement. we pay for full replacement through liberty mutual we had to pay to have all our laundry and other some other stuff that got wet at a laundry mat, because our dryer was not working at all, it works better now, but grinds now.

Recently we were dropped along with 3000 other Florida homeowners from Liberty Mutual. I asked what the criteria for being selected were and received general responses about being in a risk area for storm damage. When I asked for more specific criteria they sent 5 and we do not meet any of those five listed. In addition, my next door neighbor was not dropped and so area seems to be an irelevent issue.

I have received several letters from Liberty Mutual, the last one from Ms Fifield, stating that the company's non-renewal program does not violate any florida laws. We have had homeowners insurance with LIberty Mutual for 20 years and feel we have been dropped because of previous valid hurricane damage and relatively lower yearly premiums. My neighbor has made no claims. In the last three years we have stormed proffed our home with a new roof, window shutters, and new windows according to Florida code. We have these certified by a licensed home inspector which we sent to Liberty Mutual.

We have contacted the Florida State Insurance Office and while they are investigating nothing is happening to inform us of the specific criteria for our being non renewed. We feel that they are just stonewalling until August when our policy is over and due for renewal. Any suggestions?

Our insurance rates will significantly increase for our home.

I filed the claim last Tuesday 3/4/08 because several sanitary sewer lines are busted and separated under my house foundation, causing backup. I just had a new partial sewer line put in the back yard of my home. I also am having a new bathroom put in my basement. I have a state licensed plumber that working on my basement; he made a video tape for the insurance adjuster to see the extent of damage to the sewer system. The state license plumber told me to provide the adjuster with a copy of the video, and the plumber faxed over a detailed quote to Liberty Mutual for replacing the damaged sewer lines. The insurance adjuster told me the quote was too high for replacing the damaged sewer lines. The adjuster will not look at the tape to see the detail of the damage. Now it is Saturday (3/8/2008) night, and I have family coming from out state for a family funeral. I told the adjuster I needed to get this done right away. I even asked the insurance adjuster to get someone else, and he didn't. If any of my family members get sick as a result of their adjuster refusing to take any action concerning this matter, I am going to the local TV channel and retaining an attorney on Monday 3/10/2008.

The plumber told me that he has never paid over $2,000.00 dollars for this repair even though he has not looked at the extent of damage to the system or even recommending another plumber for the job. I have called the insurance adjuster, and he refused to take my calls for the last couple of days. I am filing a formal complaint with the insurance commission in Lansing, MI. This is my second claim in eighteen years of coverage with their company, and this is how I am being treated.

My family could get sick because Liberty Mutual refuses to respond to me to resolve this matter.

On February 10, I received a letter from my mortgage company stating that they attempted to pay my hazard insurance renewal premium, but they were unable to obtain the policy information from my agent. The letter stated, please provide us with your policy renewal information to prevent a lapse in coverage. I called Liberty Mutual, who stated that I had no insurance coverage for a year and a half! They explained that Chase Mortgage had payed them late in January of 06, so they canceled the policy, cashed the check from Chase and sent me a check (they always send it to the customer).

I called Chase, and they paid the bill again. Apparently, Liberty mutual again, cashed the check and said that they sent me a check for the amt. paid. They are now saying that I am uninsurable because of a year and a half lapse in coverage stating that if you didn't insure your property for a year and a half, you probably don't take care of your property! First of all, if I had received a check from Liberty Mutual, I would have notified someone, because this happened to me about 6 years ago, I cashed the check because it said refund (without any type of cancellation notice) and I got canceled and mandated by my mortgage co (who was Washington Mutual at the time). So, I know that I would not cash a check from Liberty Mutual without investigating why I got it in the first place. Secondly, What happened in 2007? If I didn't have any homeowners insurance for the year, why wouldn't Chase mandate me or even notify me? I am now without homeowners insurance after using Liberty Mutual for eight years in a row, paid for in full each year from my mortgage escrow. Any suggestions?

I have no homeowners insurance and am having difficulty obtaining insurance because of the lapse. My mortgage co. (Chase) stated they'll give me a few days to obtain insurance.

My husband and I had 2 homes, 2 autos, and 2 life insurance policies with Liberty Mutual for more than 5 years. We had a small fire in one of our homes during our last policy effective dates. The claim is still open, however we have already been notified that our homeowners policies will not be renewed. Apparently, any claim or loss that is greater than $15,000.00 results in a non-renewal! Live and learn, ask your carrier what the underwriting standards are in the event of a claim. The last thing you want to be doing when you're dealing with fire clean-up, and construction crews is finding last-minute insurance! I'm pretty sure the Liberty Mutual commercial ends a little differently than this.

My Condo Home Owner’s insurance with Liberty Mutual was canceled when I sold my condo and purchased a new home In April 2004. At this time Liberty Mutual was notified of the cancellation and Commerce Insurance became my new insurance carrier for auto and home. Liberty Mutual continues to send me bills on the police with a term date of 1-10-2005 thru 1-10-2006 for the condo that I sold in April of 2004!

I have contacted Liberty Mutual repeatedly regarding this issue. Commerce Insurance tells me that they have repeatedly resolved this issue. In fact Liberty Mutual owes me money from 2004! Despite efforts by me and Commerce Insurance this is still not resolved. I now receive threatening calls and notices from Credit Collection Services. I am horrified that my otherwise perfect credit history is now tarnished. I consider Liberty Mutual actions to be threatening and clear harassment.

Mr. Landon called me on or about March 26,2002. He stated that my homeowners insurance was to be cancelled because I had failed to disclose that my home had a shake roof. He asked if whether my husband and I were planning on getting a new roof done anytime soon. I told Mr. Landon that a new roof was beyond our means at this time. We were planning on getting a new roof next year (2003). Mr. Landon said that sometimes a good kick in the pants is what's needed. When I first approached Mr. Landon regarding homeowners insurance I stated my home had been built in 1971 and that there had been no major renovations done to my home. He did not ask me about my roof. His company insured my home and four of our cars.

I have been searching for homeowners insurance and have been unsuccessful. No one wants to insure our home because of the cancellation. I have been on an emotional rollercoaster since I was first was notified of the cancellation. I have trouble sleeping. I have been very distressed. If I do find insurance the premium will be much higher than it was.
