A wind storm damaged the roofs in my area. My neighbors are getting full replacements. I was told I had $485 worth of damage. That was ridiculous, so I started to investigate. All the Roofing Contractors I contacted said the same thing, Farmers notoriously denies legitimate claims. They send a "no name" Engineer to write a report that they use to deny the claim. They know nothing about damaged roof shingles. They write down how many shingles are broken, nothing about the ones that are lifted and no longer sealed and all the shingles that no longer have the rock surface. I am so disappointed that I didn't investigate their claims history before paying premiums for 20 yrs. I am working on a class action suite now. I will keep warning others until this is resolved the way it should have been. Farmers, is it true your Assessors are awarded bonus money for denying claims?

I had a leak in my kitchen. I emailed my Farmers Rep as soon as I discovered the leak. My rep told me I was covered. I called and filed a claim. The person on the phone told me that I could make the repair to the sink before he arrived to look at the damage. I told him I was not touching anything until he came and looked at the damage. When the agent arrived a few days later he came in, peaked under the sink, took 2 pictures and said "you are not covered." That quick. I was floored. I asked him to explain why. He said my policy didn't cover slow leaks or mold damage. I told him he was mistaken and I had to show him my policy and the page where this is stated. The actual leak was from the dishwasher. The force of the water disconnected the pipes. The pipes had no damage or gunk in them. The pipes just separated.

I had all my cleaning supplies and shopping bags stuffed under the sink. I didn't know there was a leak until I went looking for something in the back of the cabinet. My everyday stuff is right when you open the door. I never really looked under there. I would open the door and grab the soap for dishes. He continued to state I was not covered. I later received a letter from Farmers with the denial... Farmers actually sent me a blank form letter with nothing filled in but the date of the visit. I contacted a public adjuster and now a year later I am still fighting with Farmers. My kitchen was gutted a year ago and I have a wash tub for a sink and folding tables for counter tops. Every time I hear a FARMERS commercial I want to throw something at my TV... Farmer's commercials infuriate me. Farmers is only out to make a buck and do not care about the everyday people paying every month.

I insured a residence with Farmers. There was water damage due to a wind driven storm. The Insurance adjuster first claimed it was a leaky pipe and dismissed the claim. Then when Service Pro found it was due to water coming in from the roof, she abruptly dismissed the claim as NO damage from water regardless is paid.

The adjuster right after the incident never called me but called the repair companies to deny the claim. This adjuster was an arrogant, unfriendly, snipe whose only concern was proving her denial. DISGUSTING. Would NEVER use these folks on any of my properties again. This is not homeowners protection. Its worthless. The Farmers methodology is to SOLELY protect Farmers and to attempt to deny any claim.

I have had the same problem with Farmers. They refused to send another adjuster after I contacted a roofing company to re-evaluate their review. I have a policyholder for 15 years. The same adjuster gave the same story as her first time. This time she said that FARMERS had recently changed what she called "triggers" as part of their review. Then she said that Farmers had a new policy that would cover such damage. I had replacement value but it seemed to be no good anymore---WARNING TO ALL.

I have had homeowners, automobile, life, and general liability insurance with Farmers since 2000. I pay approximately $1200 per month for these policies and have never had a homeowners claim. We moved the furniture to our garage storage room, patios, and a ranch we were renting so that we could install a new carpet. Our home was vandalized three days after the carpet installation, causing more than $40,000 in damages.

Farmers refused to pay the claim, stating that the home was vacant at the time of the incident. They also put us through a three month, time-wasting investigation. Hopefully, I will prevail over this dishonest company. I am filing a complaint with the California Insurance board, and the Better Business Bureau, and filing suit in California civil court. Farmers advertises that they have your back in the event of a loss. They don't.

I have had Farmers homeowner insurance since my first house. My friends warned me of their poor service, but I was too lazy to change to other companies. And now I paid the price. My husband noticed something wrong with the cabinet, a certified plumber soon found out a big leak in a drain pipe inside the wall behind the cabinet and help us file the claim. The Farmers agents were the worst ones ever, and the only thing they provided were helpless and frustration, and of course they found all the excuses to pay nothing. Keep away from Farmers as far as possible!

Very bad experience on a claim with Farmers Insurance. They will do anything possible not to pay on a claim if it a second claim. They add endorsements without any detailed information. I would not recommend this insurance to nobody. You pay so much money a year and at the end they don't cover anything.

I have personally had Farmers Insurance for the past year, including homeowners insurance, auto insurance for two vehicles, and life insurance for my spouse. Our agent has been our family's agent for as long as I can remember and when it came time to get my own policy, he was very helpful in making sure everything was completely covered and that I did not pay more than I needed. He has always answered my calls and emails in a very timely fashion, even if they were simple questions, he was willing to help. I would recommend Farmers to any and every one who needs insurance.

Extremely slow to response, and definitely the worse in term of return your phone calls. Once you get the hold of them, be prepare. They will do everything they can NOT to pay you. A farmers customer plowed into 2 cars on June 1. My mother was in the car in the front. Both Erie Insurance and GEICO insurance advised us to get new car seats immediately. We assumed Farmers would do the same (being the insurance company of the driver that caused the accident). On June 2 we bought new car seats. Found out 2 weeks later that FARMERS will NOT cover the cost of the car seats. How does two other insurance companies agree that in any accident, car seats should be replaced, but Farmers doesn't agree. This is why I say, Farmers doesn't care about children's safety.

My elderly father had a homeowners policy, auto policy and an umbrella policy with Farmers Insurance. My father also had a living trust set up. Christmas morning 2015, my father fell and broke his hip. Because of his condition and prognosis, it was decided that he would resign as trustee of his trust and I became the trustee. I also had power of attorney. As a routine precaution, I contacted the agent and notified them of the situation. None of the policies listed the trust. I provided the agent with the trust documents and power of attorney and was told that everything would be taken care of. I became aware that the title for my father's car was not included in his trust. Rather than put the car in the trust and then take it out again, I transferred ownership of the car to myself with the DMV.

On February 9 2016, I notified the agent in person of the ownership change and to either change the name on the existing auto policy or write a new policy. I was told it would be taken care of. In mid March 2016, I received a renewal notice for the auto policy which was still in my dad's name. I contacted the agent and was told it would be taken care of. On April 5, 2016, my father passed away. I notified the agent and asked that the homeowners and umbrella policy be switched to my name. I was told they needed to wait for the house to transfer to me for that to happen. On April 22, 2016, I received the death certificate and transferred the house to my name with the county. I again notified the agent and was told it would be taken care of.

In very late April, 2016, I was preparing to travel to California to bury my father. I still had no proof of insurance for my dad's car. I demanded and received an insurance card for that car in my name from the agent. I returned from my trip on May 10, 2016. I received a renewal notice for the umbrella policy... still in my dad's name. I called the agent and was told it would be taken care of. On May 11, 2016, a friend suggested that I speak to another Farmer's agent. That agent accessed the policies and told me that my dad was still listed on all of them. I was referred to a district manager.

On May 11, 2016, I spoke with a district manager. She wanted me to forward all documents to her so that she could send them to the corporate office and I would hear back from them within a couple of weeks. I asked her to look up the policies herself to tell me who the policies were made out to. (She didn't know that I had already been told) She said she could confirm that the policies existed but she could not tell me who was listed on them. I told her how unhappy I was that I was paying nearly $300.00 a month for insurance and a district manager could not tell me if I was insured. On May 12, 2016, I went to the State Farm office and was given a quote for very similar policies (just minor differences) which would cost me $90.00 a month less than Farmers. I signed up on the spot.

On May 13, 2016, I notified the Farmers corporate office, the district manager and the local agent in writing that I was cancelling all of the policies and why I was taking this action. To his credit, the agent contacted me. First he said state law and corporate rules prevented him from providing me with insurance on my father's car. Then he said he neglected to send the information into the main office. He also said they hadn't realized that the change in ownership of the house had occurred. I hold no ill will toward the agent. I simply don't believe there is any law that prevented insurance from being provided. Cars are sold or transferred everyday. That simply makes no sense. I would like to add that prior to this, my family and I had been customers of Farmers Insurance for at least 20 to 25 years... perhaps longer. In all of that time, we had no claims.

If you can't see "full replacement cost" on your homeowners insurance policy, then you might see "scheduled roof replacement" (which is what mine said) or actual cash value". Well, since the guy from Farmers didn't even know what that means then I can tell you the adjuster said it means that 60% of the total replacement cost of the roof isn't covered and for them to cover the other 40% you have to pay 1% deductible which means $2000.00 in my case. In other words, for a $10,000.00 roof, they will pay $2000 if you pay the other $8000, after you pay them $1000 yearly premium and $2000 deductible. Meaning you are out $9000 and they pay $1000.

Make sure you don't see "actual cash value" or some other verbiage. Actual cash value means "we are considering everything as depreciated, and will only pay to replace a much smaller percentage of the replacement cost unless it is brand new". Thank you Farmers Ins./crooks. Also, without me even mentioning an old vehicle, they put a car I don't even own anymore on my new car insurance policy, and I had to get that fixed since day one. If I would have wrecked my car, they would say "well you designed it". That's what they say right away, "but you e-signed". Forget about customer service! These people don't take responsibility for anything they do wrong as long as you e-sign their misinformation and tricks.

Adjuster said "Our computers are set up to pay reduced pro rated amount not full replacement cost." After many months of Farmers' stonewalling and repeatedly changing adjusters, I complained to North Carolina Insurance Commissioner. Only then did I get full payment.

Recently Farmers sent me a renewal quote for my homeowners policy that increased my premium by five hundred dollars a year. Of course I shopped around and found a less expensive policy with Allstate Ins. My Farmers policy renewed in March 2016 so I called them in January and cancelled my policy and went with Allstate. Last week I get a bill from my Farmers Agent Don ** in Oklahoma City saying that my policy premium was due so I gave them a call reminding that I cancelled my policy. Keep in mind my escrow account on my mortgage covers my insurance. I was told by an agent at the agency that I had to do this and do that to get my policy cancelled.

Now I am worried that my mortgage company was billed by two insurance companies. If so my mortgage payment will increase around two hundred dollars a month for the rest of the year. This has happened to me before with Farmers Insurance. I wonder how many people are scammed by Farmers Insurance with this cancellation scam? Why do we allow these companies to control Americans? Americans need to be aware of this scam. I did turn in a complaint to The State Insurance Commissioner and to the BBB in my state. I have to wonder how many people lose their homes because of this Escrow Scam that Farmers Insurance seems to use to harass citizens? I am 64 years old on a very limited income and a scam like this can place me in serious financial difficulties. Corporatism is alive and well in this country and we have to stop it before it destroys everyone's lives.

We had some storm damage to our house that was going to require some stucco repair, painting, and replacement of sun screens for a total of $3800.00. The adjuster told me that they would not issue a check until we had the repairs completed and presented him with receipts. I had never heard of that and asked why. He said that he felt I would go shopping rather than repair our home. Needless to say I was stunned and greatly offended. I contacted our agent who only referred us to their 1-800-who cares number. We have since repaired our home but have not received a cent from Farmers. After waiting the rest of the year for the payment we couldn't bear to pay another year's premium so we cancelled the policy. We do not recommend Farmers Insurance.

I can't trust Farmers insurance to insure my properties. For over ten tears I was with AAA insurance and was very happy with them. 5 years ago a good friend of mine's wife became a Farmers agent. He asked me if I can switch to Farmers and give his wife the business. I agreed and I switched. I insured my home, autos, rental property, and a business. I have been with them for over 5 years until few days ago, I sent a notice to my agent to cancel my insurance policies. My cancellation has nothing to do with agent. It is the claim department and specifically the adjuster is the reason.

I filed a claim 5 months ago for vandalism incident which happened in the business, and for all that time, all what I am getting is the runaround from the adjuster and the claim department. For the last five months all what I have been doing is supplying them with document one after the other they are asking me for. They are trying to find any excuse not to pay the claim. They have not come forward and tell me why they are doing what they are doing. All what I hear that they are still investigating the incident. I feel I have been screwed big time by this Farmers Insurance. This experience with Farmers insurance is the worse I have had.

We have been Farmers Policy holders for over 18 years and this is our first claim. I had an accident at our house and brought my ring into the jewelers to be checked. The jeweler told me the diamond was chipped and setting was cracked. I discussed that it was insured and Farmers had all my original appraisals, so proceeded to file a claim. My jeweler wrote up an estimate for repair for the entire ring and sent to Farmers like they asked. Farmers appraisal came in 3k lower than ours. Fine, I had no choice and a check was sent to me. I was told salvage would contact me to see if I wanted to buy ring back. Salvage contacted me and told me it would be 4k to get my original wedding ring back.

I was very upset and emotional and my reaction was no - that's a lot of money. I was so upset and told my husband about it later that day. He said we really need the ring back for sentimental reasons and that it is 12 years old and very special to him since he proposed with it. I called the Salvage guy back at Farmers a few hours later the same day and he said "No, I already closed the case, it's done". He gave me no time to even think about it or to discuss with my husband. He didn't care or even give a customer 24 hours to think about it! I was shocked. It was a horrible experience and still can't sleep at night because the ring is gone. Farmers did not even care when I told them my situation. Please do not Insure your jewelry under Farmers. They just want to see how much more they can get for it and make a buck if it's damaged!

In Jan 2014 procedural chances took place renewing my flood insurance. According to Farmers Insurance I was required to get a elevation survey to renew my flood insurance. It cost me 350.00 to hire a surveyor. A couple months later I was told by Farmers that FEMA didn't like the photos that the surveyor took and asked me to take photos of the front and back of my house. I did and submitted them to Farmers. Then a couple months later I was asked to take additional pictures of the sides of the house... I told the secretary that "What am I paying you guys for? How about you come out and take the pictures because you know what FEMA wants." The secretary Carol said no problem, she would send the agent Hilary out to do it.

By the end of April I was contacted and was told "Congratulations you have flood insurance” by Carol and instead of costing me 1200.00 it was only 400.00. I dropped off the check that same day due to getting to leave for vacation. I was heading for Montana with my daughter. I received an email that said "It's not our fault and not your fault but FEMA was 1 day late getting back to us so we had to rewrite your flood insurance policy. This means a 30-day no insurance period." I arrived a few days later in Yellowstone Wyoming camped one night and received a call from my other daughter that the house flooded out by the river. It took me four days to get back, cancelled vacation to a disaster. 77,000.00 loss muddy water 20" plus deep in the house. I called the insurance company and they said they never had to come out to take the photos because they talked FEMA into using the ones they had.

Farmers delayed two weeks with taking the photos but they did not do so. They blame FEMA. Months later I get a letter from my mortgage company that read "We noticed in May that your policy elapsed so we initiated a policy to cover you for the 30 days in May.” All I had to do is pay the 40.00 premium. I did and then called in my claim. I received only up to the balance of my loan 34,000.00 but the mortgage company did pay out.

Now if the mortgage company could do that for me why did Farmers not do it. I always that the insurance company was there to help you in the event of a disaster. I will never ever deal with Farmers. When I needed them the most they came up with all kinds of excuses so that they would not help. I have talked with many other people that have Farmers and they all seem to support my feelings about Farmers Insurance. So far the worst company I have ever had experience with.

I have had so many people ask me what this sign on my vehicle means, that I am tired of explaining it, so will posting this for a while every day, to let people know what the deal is. Was with Farmers Insurance company for many years, when my daughter was hit by another pickup, and the man was ticketed for causing the accident, but Farmers and the other insurance company took so long deciding who was at fault, that my insurance (Farmers) opened the case first, Farmers adjuster looked the brand new truck over and decided, they would fix the damage, even though the body shop said they wanted it totaled, so did Ford motor co, and myself. Have this on tape.

They figured it would cost about $11,000.00 and a little more, but the total cost on the truck when finished, was Better than $23,000.00 plus, and lots of problems still with it, Tin falling off the windshield, tires going bad quickly, cruise control going off and on at odd times, windows did not work right, etc, etc, etc, Told my daughter to go sell the truck as I did not think it was safe, when she went to the dealership all they would offer her was a little over $6,000.00, Carfax value. Told the insurance company at fault of this and of all the loss, from being a new truck, and they agreed to pay the loss value on the truck, but my insurance company would have to pay it first, as they opened the case first, when I approached my company, they demanded a letter that the other company would reimburse them, if they paid. I got them the letter, and they still would not pay, said they don't pay diminished value, but I had full coverage, and paid dearly for it all those years.

Since that happened the Insurance company has sold to another man, and other agent got out of Buffalo. I asked him nicely to clean up the mess, but he just told me he was a new agent, he could not be responsible for the old agent's actions. So people watch what your young people - buy for insurance, as they may get taken for a ride, in the end. Better be making sure your new vehicle, is covered for diminished value, or you can end up with a $6000.00+ piece of crap, safeco offered to pay so they must, as man at fault got a new truck. Sign on the back of my vehicle says "Farmers Insurance does not pay diminished value."

BUT- on the last day of my previous insurance was no longer in effect - lo and behold I receive a letter from Frontier that now they would need to send an inspector to do a review process which included roof inspection, outside only review (unless the agent wanted in-house review). This inspection would be done by a third party (CIS). We are not talking about small change. The house is in the $700,000 plus value. What?

I ask for any information regarding how much $ it covers, fire damage, earthquake damage, wind damage, etc. Anything? She says I have to call someone else. Gives me the number and hangs up. No goodbye, no have a nice day, no can I help you with anything else? NOTHING. I have used multiple insurance companies over the years, Geico, Progressive, Safeco, Esurance, Arrowhead, Mercury, Farmers, and probably a few more for homeowner insurance and car insurance and not once have I had someone this rude. The increase was more than 25% above my previous rates on both home and auto. It seems the company just figured that this dope will not look any further and accept the increase. I changed to Liberty Mutual and the cost was less than Farmers for the past year.

Dealing with this agent can take some time as she is very thorough and makes sure that the customer understands her explanation regarding the type of insurance you are looking for, and as far as I know she handles just about every kind. She takes whatever time is necessary to make sure you have the right kind of insurance and you are satisfied with pricing. The agent is on call whenever you need her help. When you first meet her you just know you're in the right place. She makes you feel like family not just another dollar bill coming through the door. From time to time she will contact you and ask you to stop in to see her and just go over your coverage to make sure all your information is the same and make sure there are no loopholes in your coverage.

I am completely satisfied with the service she provides, I understand my coverage as well as possible. I have homeowners and auto with her. I am certain that anyone reading this, that needs insurance will feel as I did. There was trust, understanding and that personal touch that is so important in any business, something most businesses have forgotten unfortunately. The new claims adjuster that was assigned lived more than 30 minutes from our home so we regularly had to follow up and mail documentation and pictures. It seemed at points that it was our job to ensure the claim was processed in a timely manner. Never heard from our agent during this time.

Fortunately, our loss wasn't extensive or very expensive so the delays in receiving a check weren't devastating to us. Apparently, based on the experiences of our various neighbors who also suffered losses due to this storm, we received the best customer service, so we have stayed with the company but I regularly research other companies for better claims satisfaction and cost of coverage. The company does make it easy to make premium payments (mobile payments possible), which is a factor I consider as well.

I updated my coverage, and it's not costing much more since I have the 2 policies with the same company. (Years ago I had car insurance from Farmers also but found out my local agent was overcharging me.) Last year when I had the homeowners insurance from Farmers a tree fell on my carport and car. Totaling both, the coverage of the damage to the house was not enough to cover the replacement of the carport. I thought the Progressive claim for the car was settled very fairly. I have had other claims with Progressive and their service has been very good. In average, I've been paying Farmers $2500 a year for my single person auto and home for this many years. I've never had collision that needs Farmers to ever reimburse me. However, I've had up to 5 B&E (breaking and entering) in my complex due to bad neighborhood and increasing crime. My car has been broken in 3 times so far in the past 3 years in street and at my garage. My garage has been broken in also around 3 times at least ever since I bought this place in 2005. Last month, there were two B&E, one was my unit and the other one was my downstairs neighbor. I was notified by my neighbor when her kids saw my car with a broken window and millions of shattered glass on the floor.

Police came to take report. Farmers adjusters, investigators and now the ATTORNEY after over 1.5 months of interrogating me, putting me through a ton of paperwork, document, notary service, recorded investigation, they decided it's not sufficient and would not reimburse me a single dime. My case has been transferred to multiple units and each time they put me through all the hassle with rude and unprofessional attitude and tone, they don't give me update. I was treated like the thief or criminal in this regards. They now want me to schedule a time to do EUO (examination under oath) the 2nd time to swear that all I stated was true. Seriously? I've been paying thousands of insurance dollars just to have myself treated like this by Farmers? My home not protected, and my dignity not respected. They denied the claim and left me in despair after taking my money and failing to honor their contract. Hiring lawyer and filing complaint with state insurance dept as well as preparing to take them to court. 3 weeks now and the longer this goes unrepaired, the likelier this home will be a total loss.

They purposefully avoided acknowledging the storm damage and tried to say the rain damage inside was caused by something else and negligent roof maintenance which is total bull crap. We had two separate incidences with Farmers. The first was on a rental home that had sustained damage from hail. We had been told by several realtors that the insurance company would replace the roof, no problem. Many people in the city had damage and their insurance companies just replaced the roofs. Not Farmers! They came up with a prorated report, the age of the home etc., etc.! None of it made any sense and so the result was they paid $800 TO REPLACE A ROOF!

The next situation was our own residence had a broken sewer pipe. We had a plumber come out to diagnose the problem. We called Farmers to let them know that there had been damage from the broken sewer line. It broke under the steps and wall and as a result they collapsed. Farmers would not send anyone out to survey the damage. They said it was not covered because it was most likely due to tree roots and tree roots are not covered. My husband had been out of work for a while so we did not have money to have anyone come out to tear out the stairs and wall in order to find the broken sewer line to get it repaired. So my husband worked on it for days.

Once he was able to expose the sewer line we saw that there were no tree roots anywhere near the line. We had the plumber come back to take pictures and document what he saw. He reported it all to Farmers. There was no word from them until we received notice that we had been dropped because we had an unsafe hole in our front yard!!! After 30 years of paying Farmers to cover two homes THIS is what we get the first time we need help from them! Oh, but the story doesn't end there. Somehow they decided AFTER they dropped us that we still owed a payment and we are now in collections! This company should be brought up on charges.

On top of that, the adjuster told my wife that she was stupid and she didn't know what she was talking about, that maybe true when it comes to roofing, but no reason to say that to her face. I was working out of town so just felt that insurance company would take care of it. Now on 1-20-15 Another horrible rainstorm came through and you guessed it APPLICATION problem.

That part of the roof has been on for 11 years. Insurance use this term APPLICATION PROBLEM to deny claims like the governments use conspiracy title to round up people to convict. SO look for another insurance company. Or you will have the APPLICATION PROBLEM against you. I told the adjuster that insurance companies, if they offer these policies they should have roofers they consider that do not have APPLICATION PROBLEMS, so the homeowners can pay premiums that they will be worth paying for!!!

Agent came out & stated that there was a 27 mph gust in my zip code at the time of the incident and he would have to apply the 5% wind deductible ($14,500.00). My research revealed that at the time of the incident the reported winds in my zip code were less than 4 mph.

Farmers refused to change their finding and went so far as to fabricate lies indicating that I had stated to the adjuster that I felt wind was the cause. I made no such statements and countered that I was home at the time and saw no effects from wind. They refused to budge and bottom line is they paid $3000.00 toward a $15,000.00 claim. Their wind endorsement is vague and consists of only one paragraph. No inclusions, exclusions or descriptive terms defining wind and their response indicates that they will apply the wind deductible any time the wind is above "0" When confronted their response was "there was wind".

My husband owns an automotive business. One night he gets a call saying a DUI driver came through his lot and totaled one vehicle and caused several thousand dollars damage to the other. Their agent offers him $700 on the car that's totaled and $400 on the other!! Why? Because the motor was out and without the motor the car is basically worthless. Excuse me? So, if this was your car sitting outside, waiting for the new motor to be installed, you would be fine with receiving a few hundred dollars? Of course the agent was speechless and only said, "I'm sorry sir, but that's our final offer."

My husband said he would see them in court. The agent said ok and hung up. Luckily our shop insurance is dealing with Farmer's now and will hopefully be able to sort all of this out. It's amazing that anyone use Farmer's Insurance anymore. I have read some pretty horrific stories. I hope they don't get away with only paying $1100 for a drunk driving, hit and run case with two cars that before their driver came along was worth 100x what Farmer's is offering.

Farmers would not let us sign a one year lease which is the only way to rent anything. We have been living in the most worst conditions since Dec.15th 2015.

We are looking everyday and doing all the work trying to find housing. It is impossible. With Farmers so called experience they should know this. The one year lease should be calculated. This is the 20th century. 15 years ago when we signed up with this company the fine print may have made more sense. I find Farmers lacking normal up-to-date economic and care very little about the client. Experience angry.

So the agent came out and said they could only give us 2,800 yet we have a deductible of 2,200. So basically they are willing to help us with 600 dollars. They didn't really offer much help, other than that. It's a terrible insurance over all, I do not recommend it to anyone. I recently received a letter telling of repairs that I needed to make; moreover, I was given 30 days to respond. One repair was removal of leaves from my roof, and since it was November and my house is under oak trees, this seems ridiculous since I remove all leaves once they are all down. The others regarded my roof, which they said that they wanted certified as to its condition. (The roof has given me no problems.)

My problem is that I live alone, and I am recovering from a serious injury. At no time did they contact me about a scheduled visit, instead they showed up and entered my property without my permission. I was probably at physical therapy because I did not see them, or I would have challenge them. I called my agent after I received my surprise letter. I told them that I would comply about the roof even though to get a certified life expectancy of my roof will cost money. I then asked the main question: why was I not notified. Answer: they are too busy to request permission since they have so many inspections to do. I have since found out that they cannot enter private property without the owner's permission. Solution: I may arrange for a new roof and a new insurance company. I own another property in another state and have never been treated this way by my insurance company there.

Just to verify what was happening, I called Farmers. I was told a mistake was made. I needed to return the refund, this was 3 months later. I initiated the call. The agent did not call me.

I explained my financial situation because it was unique. Farmers told me I had to pay three months to bring my account current. Again, no one told me I was three months behind. The agent told me he had not gotten around to contacting me yet. They did offer to divide the rest of the money up over 9 months. I asked for some more help on the three-month payment. NO! Again there is an income issue. Furthermore, I am now having to also pay a monthly service charge in addition to the reimbursement.

I am fine with refunding the money over twelve monthly payments (I told them so) although it is very financially hurtful. I am NOT fine with paying three months at once because of their poor communication. I am NOT fine with the added-on monthly service charge. This seems rather petty for it being FARMERS' error and their poor communication.

I was "insured" by Farmers for home and auto beginning in 1972. I faithfully paid my premiums for 25+ years and during that time only filed two very small claims (each for less than $200), both of which were covered without problem. It wasn't until a catastrophic hailstorm hit in Colorado in 1997 that I realized how vulnerable I was having Farmers as my insurance carrier. My roof was destroyed, as was my car. My roof prior to the hailstorm consisted of spaced decking and three layers of roofing material - the original shake shingles from 1941 and two layers of asphalt shingles.

Farmers would ONLY cover removal and replacement of the top layer of shingles, even though the roofing company provided documentation that in order for the warranty to be valid on a new roof, they would have to strip everything off, re-deck the roof and start fresh with a new layer of asphalt shingles. Every house in the neighborhood that was insured by someone other than Farmers had their roofs and cars completely repaired with no questions. Only those of us with Farmers had to endure shabby treatment and substandard coverage.

I called, wrote, faxed, e-mailed, and talked with them in person until I was blue in the face. They wouldn't budge. I had to take the money they gave me for my car being totaled by hail and apply it to the cost of replacing the entire roof properly. In the process, I became physically ill from the stress of dealing with Farmers. In the end I switched my coverage to another carrier. My old Farmers agent called me to see if I would be interested in returning to Farmers if they reduced my premiums. I told her that hell would have to freeze over first. I then pointed out to her how much better off I would have been if I had put every premium I had paid to Farmers over the past 25 years into a low-interest bearing savings account instead and that then I would have been able to repair my roof and my car and would not have had to endure shabby treatment from them. She expressed shock and surprise at my anger, and had the gall to say that she would check back with me in a couple of months to see if I had changed my mind. And call me back she did! I had to hang up on her several times before she stopped bothering me. I have made a concerted effort to talk everyone I know out of going with Farmers since that time.

My then current homeowner's policy was with Uniguard/QBE (since 1996, no claims). I was assigned Adam ** (Lic # **) in Petaluma, CA as my Farmers' Agent. There did not seem to be any problem with the application. I was quoted $770.- for expanded coverage (roughly the same I had been paying to Uniguard). I paid the down payment of $211.84 by credit card , and the new policy went into effect on 2/11/14. Thereupon I cancelled my old policy w/ Uniguard/QBE.

On 2/24 I received a subscription agreement form for the Fire Insurance Exchange from Farmers, which I signed and returned, together w/ a check for $560.43. On 3/24/14 I received a cancellation notice from Farmers (effective 5/2/14), citing I had failed to provide a CA Fair Plan Companion Endorsement and a Fair Plan Policy Declaration Page, none of which I had heard about previously. The staff at Mr. **'s office was very friendly, but unfortunately seemed to have limited experience with the problem at hand. Mr. ** made excuses, i.e. "his staff has not learned the new program yet", but expressed full confidence In Farmers "new generation of home insurance plans" etc. After about two weeks of inquiries, phone call and emails to Mr. **'s office, I received the "good news" that the California Fair Plan was now prepared to cover the Fire/Lightening risk for an additional premium of $ 1060.- , bringing my total premium up to $ 1832.-, or roughly 2.4 times the amount I had been quoted.

Needless to say, I have since obtained coverage elsewhere, and am confident that the quote I received, will be the actual premium. I consider the premium discrepancy between what I had been quoted and was finally asked to pay by Farmers an example of highly unethical, possibly fraudulent business practice, and am filing this complaint with the hope that future potential customers may be spared a similarly unpleasant experience, or even feel "bullied" into grossly overpaying premiums in the face of being threatened with cancellation.

Farmers did good and took care of my flooring issue, too 9 months from the time of claim but the job has been completed!

    Original Review: April 13, 2014

Oct. 2013 I had a leak under my kitchen sink which caused my laminate flooring to lift and buckle up. I called in a plumber to repair the leak and immediately called Farmers to open a claim. They had a company come out to take care of the water damage. They tore up the floor and a portion of the flooring in the bathroom. During the process of moving my stove, they tore off a piece of my kitchen counter. After fighting with Farmers almost 2 months (saying my claim was denied) I finally had flooring installed; however, the flooring company while tearing up the floor in the bathroom cracked the bathroom vanity cabinet in half. And after only a few weeks after flooring was laid, in a couple spots while walking on the laminate flooring it was sinking in.

I had the flooring company come back to fix the issue; however, they claim due to the concrete slab not being level they would not be able to fix the floor. I have been nonstop battling with this company. They have offered no other options. Professional floor layers should always know of the obstacles before laying a floor and it's funny that the flooring I had previously before the leak had no issues; however, there was a liner placed under the flooring which the now flooring never had installed before laying the laminate. Seeking legal counsel to find out what my rights are! BEWARE!!!! Farmers Ins. are the biggest baddest CROOKS on the market!

My interior wall was blistering due to moisture. When I filed a claim, the claim adjuster told me it was due to a crack in a pipe within the wall, and as such, not covered due to "Normal wear and tear." How this is considered normal wear and tear is beyond me. Dispite my arguing, they denied my claim. When I called my plumber, he said there was no crack in any pipe, and that the moisture was due to the slab my home is built on. I called Farmers again, and the adjuster had an engineer come out to inspect. Now they have decided it is due to moisture coming from the soil through the slab, and ONCE AGAIN, NOT COVERED. This is the worst company I have ever had the displeasure to deal with. We pay our premiums each year, yet when we reach out to them they continue to fail to deliver their end of the bargain. I am cancelling my policy, and can only hope the next insurance company I contract with has some small ounce of honesty.

So if they call you and you miss the call, you better PRAY that they return your voicemails in a timely manner (which they don't 99% of the time). I got involved in a car accident where the car to the left of me decides to suddenly turn right WITHOUT SIGNALING OR BRAKING. She does not see me in her mirrors even though I honk, so she ends up crashing my left side. Guess what? She has Farmers Insurance too and instead of putting all the fault on her (which other NORMAL auto-insurance companies would have done), Farmers decide to resolve the case 50/50. Because we both had Farmers, they wanted to keep her happy too.

WHAT THE ** IS THAT?! She HIT me, I did NOTHING. Yet they claim that because I was a few centimeters behind her, I had to yield because she was "in front of me". REALLY? This lady here broke 3 laws by making an illegal turn and I was a total victim. You resolve this case by telling me I have to pay HALF of my deductible when I did NOTHING WRONG?! This is honestly the WORST auto insurance company ever. Do NOT TRUST them and do NOT BUY any kind of insurance from them. THEY WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF YOU. This one's for you, CATHERINE ** AND JAY.

I live in Moore, OK and after the tornado this past May I noticed my ceiling sagging in the garage and the partition separating my garage was twisted. The roof on my house is only about 5 years old and I'd never had problems with it. I notified Farmer's and they sent the adjuster out who said my policy didn't cover any of this. I had a contractor that a co-worker recommended come out because I felt these damages should be covered. This contractor told my husband the house had quite a bit of structural damage, advised us to contact a structural engineer.

I had Farmers send an adjuster out again and he stated my insurance doesn't cover my damages and insinuated I was being dishonest. I have lived in this home for 17 years and this was my second claim I've ever filed and the first time with this company. Now it's been 10 months since the tornado and the garage ceiling is literally collapsing. I have been unable to contact my agent so I finally called the main office. I was told I no longer have an agent because my agent isn't with Farmers anymore. And my next complaint with them is they took $385 out of my acct for my car ins but the amt should have been around $100 but nobody has yet been able to resolve this issue for me therefore I will be canceling my policies Monday.

From time of fire till middle of January we lived in a motel room and camper, had to fight for everything we did get. They wanted to repair a gutted 1998 mobile home, also told me the first problem was I had too much insurance. Well hell they sold it to me and didn't mind cashing my checks every month. ON May 14, 2013 I was PARKED in my auto at a gasoline bay where I had just finished filling my tank. I had a passenger, both of us 60 something grandmas. We were hit by a truck taking a shortcut thru the station. He was insured by Farmers. When asked to provide a driver's license, he provided a Peruvian ID. They were good about paying for the damages to my car. Will give them that, they accepted 100% liability via email within a few hours. HOWEVER, we both suffered whiplash type injuries and required treatments from a chiropractor for a few weeks.

Imagine our surprise when we were told that Farmers only pays what they consider to be usual and customary fees for medical treatment and they get to decide what that is! They decided that they would pay roughly half of our expenses. Mind you, we are out of shape grandmas, NOT out looking for lawsuits, just expecting our expenses to be met. We finally decided to try small claims court where we won the case but because we neglected to provide a letter from the doctor stating that the accident caused our injuries we were not awarded the medical payments even though we presented the bills in court.

KUDOS to HARTFORD, my insurance company who accepted the bills from the doctor and paid them without question! After much posting I got a call from a supervisor asking me if there was anything he could do to "help me resolve this in my mind". He clipped the back end of the car right before I hit the ditch at 65 mph. 2 weeks and we are still getting the runaround from Farmers. The man that hit me was also a Farmers customer, with the same insurance agent as me. The man that hit me will not return phone calls to give his statement, even though he received two citations, and the agent knows exactly who he is. So now, I have to claim it on my insurance at Farmers just to get it done so I have a car again. Was told to get it done where I want. Found out after work started the repair shop was not on Farmers' preferred list.

So I will probably pay more than the 500 deductible. Farmers halted work on car because an adjuster needed to look at it. A Farmers' customer hits a Farmers' customer and the one that is not at fault pays! How can anyone rationalize that? I'm done with Farmers. I have never had such a hard time with an Insurance Company. This is the worst insurance company that I have ever worked with. Not only is their customer service disgustingly terrible, they screw up payments. We have only had a policy for three months; every single month we have had a problem with them.

First month - the automatic payment was not taken out on the day we were assured it would be. We panicked and made a manual payment. We had an incredibly hard time getting that extra payment refunded, and somehow the account got behind. When we finally talked to someone that we thought would help, they assured not only me but my local agent that we would have a double payment taken out in September, and then our account would be fine.

Second month - The double payment was NOT taken out in September. Supposedly we were to make a manual payment too, but we were assured verbally that the payment would be taken out in full by auto payment. We were never informed otherwise.

This month - They decide to take the double payment out, because they ** up last month. We had budgeted for the double payment in September, and only had budgeted enough for ONE payment this month, as we assumed it was resolved. I lost my job recently so we have to be really strict with our budget, and this completely put us in the hole. Not only did my account overdraft because of their stupidity, now I am hit with $100 extra in overdraft fees! Now our essential bills such as POWER to our house can't be paid, nor can I buy food to sustain my family. Please, anyone reading this - DO NOT GET A POLICY WITH FARMERS INSURANCE!! Basically, I was rear ended by an uninsured motorist so I had to go through my insurance (Farmers) to get the repairs done. Once I told them I had a shop that I wanted to go to and it wasn't on their list of shops they want to use, things got ugly. 1st they refuse to come out and look at the car. They wanted me to have the body shop email them photos and an estimate. Soon as they got the estimate, they decided they needed to see it (which is what the body shop said would happen). We could have saved a lot of time if they had just come out and gave me what they were going to give me and got the car fixed, but they want to play games.

My claims adjuster (Christian **) or his supervisor (Doug **) wouldn't return my calls for a week. I had to call my agent (Tom **) to get them to call me back. In the beginning, Tom was great, answering all my questions and getting in touch with those other two when I couldn't find them. So naturally every time I had a problem, I would contact Tom. Boy was that a mistake. Tom began to get frustrated and upset with me, but all I was trying to do was get a question answered. Neither he nor Christian could answer my question (who/how would my rental be set up). Tom started telling me to pay and they would reimburse me, but I didn't like that option.

I asked if they would set it up. He said yes, but I need to call them to reserve the vehicle. That didn't make sense. Then he had Christian call me, but all he said was "The person coming to do the adjustment would let me know what to do." That didn't make sense because by then I would need the rental and if that's all he had to say, Tom could have told me that. In the end, Tom and I got to arguing because they kept trying to force me to go to the shop they wanted which only made me not want to go even more. Then Tom tried to say that the body shop told them to come look at the car and I know for a FACT that isn't true. Farmers just doesn't want to pay that money. They were treating me like I don't pay them every month. I have a 2 SUVS, a car and a motorcycle with them and they were treating me like I have accidents every day and I know their procedures.

This is my first accident ever and it wasn't my fault. I don't understand why I've been treated so badly, but this couldn't have happened at a better time. The people on the 1-800 number couldn't help and still haven't heard from my local agent. They agree to replace half my roof and repair 3 places on back, room addition was fine. Now I guess the front will be one color, the back will have two color shingles and the addition will have another color shingle. I accept not changing the addition but why not change the entire main roof? It is leaking but not enough shingles missing to replace.

Have hail damage to front of roof but not rear. How does hail miss half a roof? The adjuster said no hail in that storm but looked it up online and it was described as widespread to two thirds of the state. City to the east and west had hail but I didn't? Two of my neighbors got entire new roofs with less damage from two different companies. Told the adjusters' supervisor how dissatisfied I was and all I got was, "I'm sorry," and send photos to them and she would look. You can't tell age and pliability of shingles from a photo from a phone. I guess that means no. I expected better service from a company as large as Farmers. They are good when you start a policy but difficult to work with when you need them. I'm still trying to get someone from main office.

Unfortunately, I made a homeowner's claim with Farmers and here is the result. They denied the claim and after "reading the fine print" their policy is one with far less coverage for much more money. They write their policies so the consumer has to "fit" into a narrow window for the claim to be paid. I cannot recommend Farmer's as after seeing how they manage their business, it is not coverage you pay for. There are far better insurance carriers available, ones that put the customer first and actually write policies that cover their insured. I would urge anyone looking for insurance to pass on Farmer's, or hope you never need your insurance. If you get Farmer's Insurance and have a loss, they won't be there for you. I purchased my home in 1997. I live in the desert. In 2005, we had the storm of the century. Living in the desert, you would never expect to open your front door to find that you now have a beach front property. I filed a claim with Farmers for water damage to my roof. I live in a flood zone and am required to have flood insurance also. My claim was denied. My other neighbors all got new roofs. A few years later, I heard water running in my master's bathroom. I got out of bed to find that my bathroom now comes with a waterfall feature. I spent the whole night catching buckets of water and emptying it into the bathtub. This was not a water running down the walls waterfall, but a shooting out of the wall waterfall. Again, my claim was denied.

Again a couple of years went by. I was taking a shower and the water turned cold. I went to call a plumber and he informed me that my water heater rusted out due to the air conditioner line dripping on it. Since my water heater is in a closet, he said I would not have noticed it until it was too late. The next day, the water heater gave out and flooded my laundry room and kitchen. I got a new water heater. My agent informed me that my water heater is covered. I told him, "I am in a wheelchair now and it is difficult for me to get to a claims center. Can you fax it to the claims center for me?" Months went by and I called my insurance company. I asked what happened to my refund on my water heater? They told me they never got the receipt for it.

I called my agent and asked him what happened. He got upset with me and said I never gave him a receipt. What the ** did not know was since I could not walk, a family member brought me to his office and waited outside while I took him the receipt. The gist of this tale is that every claim I've ever put in has always been denied. I purchased my home brand new. I have lived in it for 15 years. I have never gotten any claims free discounts or anything else. The final straw came six months ago when I was reviewing my policy online. I noticed where claims had been paid out, I have never gotten a cent. I also received a letter saying my insurance was being canceled because I kept making the same claims over and over again.

When I contacted them, they were very rude and arrogant. They said I was pocketing the claims checks and not repairing my home. I asked them to send me proof of when I cashed those checks. She said I had cashed the checks at so and so bank. I told her I did not bank there. Why would I pay a fee to cash a check when my bank does it for free? She said they would get back to me. They never did. Those claim checks mysteriously disappeared off of my account. My final clincher is that after 15 years with my insurance company, my new insurance company policy is $70 cheaper than my current policy.

With the internet, I have now learned to inspect every aspect of an insurance company and not just on one site. Since then I have learned that Farmers is one of the worst insurance companies around. Read all the reviews from different sites about the insurance company you are interested in. The one site that rates your insurance company may be getting paid by your insurance company for those good reviews. I am switching to a new company. I was young, dumb and full of ** when I purchased Farmers Insurance. I have spent two weeks researching insurance companies. Out of all the insurance companies review sites, Farmers is constantly rated among the worst. The one good review is probably from a Farmers agent himself.

They would not total it and said it was worth over $30,000. When it came to paying for depreciation of value due to so much damage to flex, it was now only worth $21,000. I am glad I was in a large Ford flex. I do still get severe headaches that I never had before the accident.

I was having the monthly amounts taken automatically from my checking and going paperless to avoid 2 to 4 dollars per invoice fees. Then, I am told I cannot do that on one home that is a rental. Next, they take pictures of my houses and try to get me to do certain maintenance and clean up for them. I advised them if they were going to attempt to run my life, they should have so advised me upfront. I am switching to a different company right now. Don't bother with these people.

After that point, my adjuster did not do any of the necessary steps to resolve my claim; in all actuality, two of his coworkers who happened to pick up his phone on two separate occasions were the ones who sent out much needed payments to me. After I was sent my Contents Evaluation Reports, I was told that with the first payment, I can go ahead and purchase my items and soon after they received all the receipts, they would go ahead and send me out my payment(s) for the depreciation that they stated in writing they were going to give to me. Recently, I was told by Mark ** that he had made a big mistake on my claim and that he had gone over the limit of my policy and will not be able to give me the depreciation promised. I am very upset and financially harmed by adjuster Mark ** **. Why? I purchased everything on that list that stated a total of depreciation that was coming to me once I purchased my belongings.

I sent my roofer to look at their house and it was horrible. Apparently, their insurance had turned them down saying the roof was not damaged. The "undamaged" roof caused problems with their ceilings in their house. They just got the check in the mail and it doesn't cover the materials to fix the roof, much less to pay a professional to do it. As soon as we can get this mess cleared up and their roof fixed enough to stop the damage, I'll be helping them change insurance companies. This place is full of nothing but crooks! They are cheating older people because they aren't able to check things out themselves. I don't know why any mortgage company would use insurance that will cost them any value to a mortgaged home. Anyone who has older parents need to check their homeowner's insurance and get it changed from this horrible company. You get nothing in return for your payment.

I called Farmers to come and take care of the roof because I was beginning to have damage in the interior of the house also. The claim person came and said to me that my house had significant damage on the shingles and that they would call me with the outcome later that day. Wow, to my surprise, the deductible for the storm was $5,799 and the damage that they found was $3,000, so they were not going to issue any checks. I called a roofer for a second opinion and the roofer said that we needed a new roof. I called Farmers again and the claim was denied again! What is the problem?! What am I paying insurance for?! This is not a good company!

A severe hailstorm came through this area on 14 March 2012 causing damage to roofs. Possible damage was reported to Farmers sales office on Hillsboro Pike in Nashville, TN the following day. Farmers claim adjuster, Artie **, did his inspection within a few days. Because of work schedule, I was unable to meet with **. He stated in his report that there was damage to soft metal structures, but that the damage to the 4.5-year-old shingles was the result of wear and tear. He denied the claim, stating that the cost for repairing the damage was less than the deductible. Neighbors with real insurance were having their roofs replaced within a few weeks following the storm. After about six months now, almost all other homes have had a total roof replacement. These homes are only about five years old at most. This house is one of the few out of 50 or so to still need replacement. Every home within a few hundred feet has had total replacement.

After going to the trouble of getting an impartial evaluation from a housing inspector who said the roof definitely required replacement, I contacted a roofing contractor. The contractor marked damage with chalk. I contacted Farmers requesting a re-inspection. Again, Farmers sent Artie **. This time, ** met with the roofer, and again he denied the claim. I filed a complaint with the insurance commission in Tennessee. In short, Farmers then paid Donan Engineering to do another evaluation of the damage. Jeff **, sr. engineer, met with the roofing contractor, and reportedly stated that there is a lot of hail damage here. **, however, then reversed course in his report. He called the damage to shingles inadvertent man-made damage. He admitted that there was slight additional damage that ** had overlooked. Farmers then told me they would settle the claim by sending a loaded debit card for $89.17.

After hearing this voicemail, I called the agent, Michael **, and left a message that the debit card would not settle this claim, and that Farmers should not send it. Farmers generally would not answer calls from me at this time. Not surprisingly, Farmers sent the card anyway, necessitating using registered mail for the return. They sent a letter admitting that they received the returned debit card. They said they wanted to close the file on this claim. This denied claim for shingle damage seems to fit a pattern, especially when viewed from a national perspective.

I was driving down Ojai Ave. in downtown Ojai where the speed limit is 25 mph. I was going approx. 20 mph. Just to let you know, this is a tourist and shopping strip area with several sidewalks. You are very careful in the area. It has heavy police patrol. I was coming upon Ojai and Signal St. heading west on Ojai at 20 mph when a car turned left in front of me from the eastbound lane onto Signal St. just in front of people starting to cross from a sidewalk crossing Signal St. from the east of Ojai Ave. As I entered the intersection, a Toyota Highlander turned in front of me from Ojai east lane and I had no time to avoid it and we collided.

I was driving my little Nissan truck. The impact caused severe damage to my truck from the front left grill and pushing everything towards me. I was in third gear which in a 96 Nissan is used between 20 and 30 mph. The shifter indented my dash so you can tell what approx. speed I was at. The impact shocked my lower back and I thought it was broken. As I have had prior surgery on my back, I thought that it was. Also, I have been driving for over 40 years and this is the first accident I've been in. The young man came running to me saying how sorry he was and that he was not paying attention. He was with another teen who asked if they could help me out of the truck. I said, "No, I need to be sure my back is not broken." So an ambulance came and took me to the hospital and they ran X-Rays and it turned out that I had a severe strain but it was not broken.

Thank goodness! Anyway, I was thinking about the accident and I thought it must have been fate I was there at that moment as I think if I were just a fraction later, the young man would have accelerated through and hit the pedestrians crossing the sidewalk. It may have been fatal and caused a lot of turmoil in this kid's life legally and the emotions he would suffer. I talked to him later and he told me he was very sorry and I told him that it was good no one got hurt or worse and to be more careful.

The same day, I called his insurance company and opened a case. The next day, I gave them an account of the accident thinking I would get my truck fixed. They called me later and said they had a witness, that I was speeding and if I had any witnesses. I told them how could I as I was being hauled off on a stretcher. Remember, my shifter was in 3rd gear. The next day, I went back to the scene and was able to get local business owners to be witnesses. They even reported that traffic was moving around 20 to 25 mph and a couple heard the young man saying over and over how sorry he was for causing the accident.

I have a police report that shows the other driver is at fault, but still Farmers closed the case saying that I sped up and hit him while he was turning. This is insane. Why would I do that? I value my life and others. They will not even return my calls when I call. Since this is an older truck, I have only liability. So, I am left without transportation. This is a criminal act or just short of it on the part of Farmers, in my opinion, immoral at the least. I don't see how the adjusters sleep at night doing these types of things. Also, if you want to see the intersection, there is a live camera that shows the area at Ojaivalleynews.com. I called them hoping that they had a recording but they said, "no, it is only a live cam that shows downtown." I will never have Farmers or recommend them. I'm not sure how others operate but I hope not like this. They should be investigated.

I purchased my home in January 2012. The insurance agent was given the street address and info about the home I was purchasing 45 days prior to my closing on the property. Two weeks after I closed, I got a cancellation notice in the mail, stating that my homeowner's policy was being cancelled due to the condition of the roof. I called my agent, who said that yes, the roof was a problem and that I could get insurance through a different company, also owned by Farmers that offers less than premium coverage for these types of situations.

This spring, I got a loan, and had a complete new roof put on my house. I turned in all the info, as I was told that not only would I be able to be insured under Farmer's regular policy again, but I would get a discount for having a new roof. Now three months later, I received a letter informing me that the policy was being cancelled due to a crooked gutter, a missing downspout, some mortar issues in the chimney, and a handrail missing next to a door that isn't used in the back of the house.

All of these issues would have been present when I purchased the home, but were never mentioned until now, nor has my agent ever called me to discuss any of these things with me, which I feel is horrible customer service. I thought the whole reason of having a local agent versus using the internet sites was having someone who would help you through all these processes as though they value your business. I will now fix whatever is necessary, but I will no longer be using Farmers Insurance for anything again; and unfortunately, they just earned themselves a lifetime of free, negative marketing from me.

The home is on the market and when the HOA went in to show it to a possible buyer, part of the place was flooded. I called the insurance company and they gave the claim to an adjuster named Pam. She sent John from Service Masters out to dry the place out and take a look. He told me on a phone conversation that he thought it was the reverse osmosis and that mold could start to grow in four days. Before Pam even went out, she said insurance probably would not cover because it has been vacant for so long.

My mom passed away a couple years ago. I let her know that people have been there, my mom's friends, real estate people. I had just let Carmen look at the place three weeks ago. When she went out, she had John from Service Masters meet her there. She called and said that it was a leaky faucet and that it had gone on for weeks, months, or years and it would not be covered. I then had someone from the HOA go out and check out the water heater and the reverse osmosis. They said that they could not believe that she would not see how bad the reverse osmosis was leaking. It could have done the damage in two days.

I then called Pam to let her know. I left a message. Then, I called John from Service Masters to ask how well he knew Pam, how often he worked with her, how the inspection went. He told me that she turned on the water for a couple minutes, said it was the faucet, turned the water back off, and wrote out that it was the faucet and he changed his papers. Pam called me back later on that day and said she was with John when I called giving a check and she knew that I said it was the reverse osmosis. She said insurance still would not cover because it had gone on too long.

I called David ** at Farmers to let him know what had been going on. He said he had worked with Pam for a long time and she is honest. He asked if I wanted to cancel the policy. I said no not until this is resolved. I then received an insurance request cancel policy on 8/9/12. Talk about organized crime. I have kept in contact with Farmers every step of the way and the policy or the people have not let me know I needed to change anything. David did say that they should have changed the policy a long time ago. I told him I did my part now they need to do theirs. Please help.

I said, "Sure, go for it," the point being he recommended I put a claim in. So, I did. I knew my roof was not a "freshie" and was going to replace it that summer anyways. I thought why not see if ol' Farmers will replace it. Now the contractor made it a point to be there when adjuster showed up. He had a ladder all set up. The adjuster just had to get out of his car & hit the ladder. He approved everything.

I've had 3 or 4 auto claims I was the one doing the hitting. So, they had to pay. So far not one problem. I love them. I tell people to go their way all the time. I had State Farm before Farmers and I got to say I didn't feel the same about them. It's just my experience and option.

We have complied with all forms, opened our doors to their adjusters and private investigator to review the details of our claim. We were told everything has checked out. In short, our tenants vandalized and stole stored property, from a secured area in our attic and garage. The bill for destroyed property, stolen property and vandalism approaches $53,000. Today, they denied all payments saying the spikes/nails in our roof and the damage on our roof, caused by the tenants, which in turn caused water damage, was not a legitimate claim.

Also, the fire/burn marks created on the wood floors by the window drapes and the fireplace was not a legitimate claim. Lastly, the tenant's friends/visitors stole and damaged our property stored in a secure area labelled "No Trespassing" would not be a legitimate claim. HPCS's conclusion, not supported by the police report, the tenant or witnesses, is the tenant allowed others to steal so they are not obligated to pay us for the insured theft. They have opened Pandora's box. They have not paid us anything, we have a family that includes 2 young children. We had signed up for a landlord's renters policy, the best they offer according to the Agent ** in Redmond, Oregon.

Well, it seems the best was a series of legitimate excuses of avoiding HPCS's obligation to us, their client. We had the detective handling the case out today. He too was shocked. Our manager of the property and neighbors were equally shocked. Please feel free to call if you can point us in the right direction. We flew back from England where we were living and working because of this mess. This all happened in August/Sept 2011. They, HPCS, are finally denying us in June of 2012. My experience with this company directly and my conversations with neighbors on either side of my home, whose roofs were less damaged than mine, were that Farmers only replaces roofs if more than 50% of shingles are damaged. How is it that other companies completely replace roofs for just the cost of deductible and Farmers chooses not to? Who writes the rules anyway? I pay a significant premium just as anyone else does, yet they will only do patch repairs for my roof. Other companies take the brittleness of the shingles into consideration, Farmers does not. Somehow this just doesn't seem fair. The $243 check that they cut for me to replace 32 missing shingles will not be cashed as I can't afford to replace the whole roof and no one wants to just repair a roof because they don't want to be held responsible if the rest of the roof leaks.

I'm getting dozens of offers to work for Farmers offices all over. I have never had any background in insurance or any interest. Neither have I ever contacted them. The offer letters are often the same, so it's clear that the company provides the letter and has some sort of system of providing job leads to the offices. Just as they train their agents to look for customers, they train them to find new agents. Other letters are pretty sleazy offering salaries of hundreds of thousands of dollars. I follow the directions on each to remove myself, but continue to receive more from the same and other offices. I've also sent letters to the main Farmers office in LA, but I have not received a response from them.

Aside from flouting the federal CAN-SPAM act, Farmers is showing a clear lack of respect for privacy. Considering they must have other information from my resume, and the other information they have from their other clients, it makes one wonder about the integrity of what Farmers agents do with all of the confidential information they have with about all of their clients. I've filed a complaint with the FTC, but I know the FTC is so overwhelmed that they will only go after a business after they receive thousands of complaints. So I don't expect them to take any action. But we can see first hand how Farmers handles information and handles privacy. Trust is more important to me than a funny commercial on television.

I had birds and small animals get caught in there. The town fire department told me something had to be done. I got a public adjuster and engineer to exam it. They said the problem was not from wear and tear but foundational it would have to be rebuilt. I resubmitted a claim and was denied. I am outraged that they would not fix it and more that they did not offer to assist me in anyway. I had them for 11 years and never filed a claim. It is a shame. As soon as I can I will switch. If you are searching for homeowners insurance, believe me Farmers Mutual (New Jersey) is not one of them.

I purchased my home in October 2009 and was insured with Farmers Homeowners insurance since then. Recently, I received a letter from this insurer informing me that my home does not qualify for their insurance policy due to: a) Front sidewalk is cracked and uneven. b) Front slope of roof has missing shingles.

The reason for the crack in the front sidewalk is due to the roots from the huge tree on the curb growing underneath it and, as per the Farmer's agent, the roof did not have any missing shingles and she visited my house and took photographs as well. Some sections of the shingles in a portion of the roof was discolored. When I asked about it, the agent she told me that they might have mixed up my roof with some other property roof during underwriting. Both these defects were there when I purchased this house in October 2009 and Farmer's did overlook these and collected premiums from me since 2009 up to date.

My insurance with Farmer's is valid till 11th November, 2011 and I did make a claim for the repair of the roof on 15th October, 2011 for which I did not get any reply. Since they insured my house with the above defects for the past 3 years, I would at least claim for the repairs of the said section of the roof. The side walk was already repaired by the City.

This insurance company is very unreliable. To those who wish to insure with them, please be cautioned of sudden notices of cancellation of your policy for reasons which were already there when they initially insured your property.

The police were called and a report was made--the house was totally cleaned out and destroyed. They went through the entire house and destroyed furniture. They even knocked pictures off the walls. They busted open an antique desk that we kept all our personal and business info in; every drawer was empty. We had boxes packed up and they emptied them out. It was like something out of a movie.

We put the claim in but we didn't have receipts for the items taken so Farmers has been giving us hell for three months. Now they want three years of tax returns and bank statements, loan and credit card statements for every loan, and credit card in the past three years and so on. They are treating us like we robbed ourselves. When we first put the claim in, we would call and get someone every time. After our first meeting, they found out we were black people. Farmers Adjuster came out to inspect water damage at my customer's and friend's home. I have been a contractor for 38 years. It was clearly ice damming and a lot of it. Farmers gave a settlement after depreciation for damaged skylights, but refused to pay for the damage caused by leaking skylights from hailstorm and ice damming.

I got a second opinion from an unbiased contractor. Farmers is a very poor company and if you consider buying any insurance from them, forget it. They have a class action suit against them right now. I had them for 20 years and glad I dropped them. Now I'm trying to help a client collect and they must have a no-pay rule on ice damming. I filed a claim in 2008 trying to get my roof repaired, due to an ice storm, and needless to say, I only received partial payment for a small section of roof that had visible dents of about eight hail stones. The rest of the roof was ineligible for coverage because of "wear and tear". Carden and I had a huge dispute and when I saw a class action suit against Farmers, I sent in my complaint and received an additional $400.

On May 20, 2011, storm rolls through here and continues to Joplin, Missouri. I went downstairs and found a hole on the east side of the house that had allowed water to enter, as well as rust stains on the inside wood-burning stove, also indicating an additional source of water entry. Carden told me to call Service Masters to have the water removed.

Service Masters was gung ho when they first arrived. They removed part of the flooring in the kitchen and began trying to locate the source of the leak. Their conclusion, as well as mine, was the hole and the stove pipe. I concluded that the hail had caused the pipe to shift. SM placed plastic around the pipe, placed plastic over the hole on the east side and began removing water. The 20 by 40 room had carpet that had reacted like a sponge and because it was the original carpet in the room (over 20 years old), I was told the carpet could not be salvaged. But they said not to worry, if I signed the authority to remove the carpet, once the final paperwork was completed, I would receive money for the carpet anyway.

After about two days, I noticed that all the workers were not returning and I contacted Jack to get an adjuster over. The first thing he said was, if I was not covered, I would have to pay SM out of my pocket. But from what one of the workers was reporting, it seemed that there was concern about my coverage. He also said that he could not get an adjuster out earlier because they were called to Joplin to take care of them. The house appears to be a battle zone with things removed and trashed. It’s now May 23, 2011 and still no adjuster. Fans and equipment still buzzing but it is clear that there is a change in attitude with SM. Only one person comes to check equipment and move fans around.

The manager of SM came by and took a look around. We checked the places where water could have entered from the roof and Carden said if I had asked a certain company to help me he did not like them because of their shoddy workmanship. I told him, “Since I had given you that name back in 2008, why did you not tell me then that the company wasn't reputable?” Now we are once again in our argumentative state. I took four days off from work to accommodate SM and finally the adjuster arrived on June 8, 2011. When the adjuster came, a relatively portly fellow, I didn’t believe he was able to go on the roof. He deemed it as steep, besides I wanted them to look at the hole on the east side of the house. Carden, SM and adjuster converged on me and Jack comes to the front door armed with a camera and said, "They will explain to you what is going to happen. If you have questions call me.” He never entered and he left abruptly.

The adjuster was left to explain that once again "wear and tear" was the culprit and not hail damage. I argued why the pipe did not leak before and why did the house not flood before if these problems were so obvious and apparent. The adjuster told me I was eligible for $238 after my $1,000 deductible. All of the other damages were there but, due to "wear and tear", I was not covered.

I sent a letter to the Oklahoma Insurance Department regarding my complaint and the fact that in the paperwork, the adjuster filed his report on June 7, 2011 although he did not come to me until the 8th. I suggested that Carden had given him the details he wanted and prior to him truly checking things out, a conclusion had been drawn and it was that I would not be covered. Every argument sent in regarding my claim was centered around the 2008 claim on damages on the west side of the house. My 2011 claim was regarding the east side of the house. The Insurance Department said the company had stated their reasons and, unfortunately, their office does not have the authority to determine whether previous repairs were completed, damages caused by "wear and tear" or a covered loss. They also suggested that I consult with my attorney if I wanted to pursue this matter further.

On 4/24/2010, I purchased a homeowners policy with Farmers Insurance after doing some price shopping and switching from my former insurance company. Two weeks later, on 5/7, we were hit by a major storm with severe hail, 75 mph wind, and possible tornadoes. Our city was declared on state of emergency and there was millions of dollars in damage around the city. Thousands of people received insurance money for new roofs due to the hail and wind damage, including many of my close neighbors.

On 6/8, my roof was inspected by an independent roofing contractor and a Farmers adjuster. Both me and the roofer were told orally that my roof was indeed damaged by the hail and wind (There were visible dents from the hail, and shingles had been blown off my roof due to the high winds.), but that was because my shingles were past their life expectancy and the damage would not be covered. At this time, my roofer asked Farmers if I have a full replacement coverage (which I did) because he had never heard of this.

The adjuster must have realized that story wasn't going to fly and when I received the letter denying my claim, I was told it was due to there being "no damage" from hail or wind. Included in this letter was the portion of my policy which clearly stated that damage from age (normal wear and tear) and damage from weather were to be treated separately as long as they could be differentiated and that damage from weather was covered whereas damage from age was not. Since dents from hail, and shingles being blown all over (no asphalt shingle is rated for 75 mph wind), it is easy to differentiate the difference between age and weather damage in this case.

On 7/20, my policy was illegally dropped in retaliation for my filing of this claim (the only claim I've ever filed). Since they could not state "retaliation" as a reason, it was stated that I do not live in my house and that my house is undergoing renovations and, therefore, could not be covered. I, of course, live in my house, had lived in it for the 2 years prior to this (since purchasing it), and continue to live in it today. The only "renovations" being done were that I was repainting my house at the time, nothing that even requires a building permit.

When I called my agent upon first hearing that my policy would be dropped, he had me jump through several hoops to prove that I live in my house (which I complied with despite the ridiculousness) and wanted me to give him dates on when I'd be done painting the house. He repeatedly told me he would make sure the policy was not dropped. Yet, after logging into the website one day, to check on the status of the above mentioned claim, I found that my policy had indeed lapsed a few days earlier and I had no coverage! I immediately found a new homeowner's insurance company. Despite never contacting Farmers to tell them I had found new coverage, my agent (and nobody else from Farmers) ever contacted me again regarding my illegally dropped policy.

On 8/26, the roof was reinspected by another Farmers adjuster and a new roofing contractor. Again, the Farmers adjuster stated that the roof was damaged, but due to the age of the roof, they would not cover the damages. This time the same story was put into the letter denying my claim.

On 8/28, I threatened to report Farmers to the Department of Insurance. I immediately received a phone call from the Farmers adjuster's supervisor stating that they were investigating my claim. Shortly after, I received a call from the adjuster, stating that they would pay me for the "undisputed damages" which they were considering to be the entire front slope of my roof. They sent me a check for $1,141 (after my $1,000 deductible) to cover a total tear down and re-shingle of the front half of my roof with enclosed itemization. They claimed they were still investigating the rest of the damage.

On 10/22, they sent a 3rd party engineering company up on my roof to inspect the damage. This was after two of their own adjusters admitted there was damage, and about 3 independent roofing contractors said the same. One even circled all the hail dents with chalk and took pictures. They basically paid this company to say there was no damage. They said the only damage was to the metal valleys, not the shingles. This was after Farmers had already paid for a total tear down and re-shingle of half the roof.

We are all in agreement that my roof is old, but I am not trying to get a replacement roof because it is old, I am trying to get money for the damages due to extreme weather, which is indeed covered in my policy. If they did not want to cover the roof, they can not charge me for it in my premium. It would have to be excluded from the policy. I think it is interesting that my old roof is somehow "undamaged" by severe wind and hail, yet the much newer roofs of neighboring houses were so damaged that they needed to be replaced and were fully covered by their insurance companies.

On 4/21, I paid an attorney to send a letter to Farmers offering to settle for the remainder roof replacement costs, plus attorney's fees. There was no response. On 5/2, my attorney made a follow up phone call and received a faxed response to the original letter stating that there was only damage to the metal valleys on the front of the house and refusing to settle.

I only have a few days left now to file a lawsuit since I have played their games for the past year. I am looking for a lawyer who would take this case on a contingency basis. I have been told I can sue for much more than the amount of the roof, because of breech of contract, bad faith negotiations, etc. I am also curious, since there are so many of us in the same exact situation, if we could possibly file a class action lawsuit against Farmers.

Farmers is unilaterally and systematically changing the insurance rating criteria on clients' existing policies without verification and confirmation from the agent who wrote the insurance policies or from the client as to the accuracy of the alleged changes. The resulting in-house changes which are not accurate, result in large increases in premiums to the client which have no merit.

In most cases, the changes are fabricated by Farmers Insurance Corporate (not the Agent) to obtain higher premium rates from existing clients. Then the agent takes the heat for this bait and switch mentality of Farmers Corporate. In one case, Farmers Insurance, without the agents knowledge, added a porch to a client's house and increased the premium. The client clearly does not have a porch.

In three other cases, Farmers changed the insurance criteria of a home owner's insurance from a brick front to all vinyl and raised the premium. If the client ever had a fire, Farmers would claim that the house never had a brick front or blame the agent for the error. In either case, my guess is that they would not pay off the claim. Farmers also initiated a new quotation system that resulted in lower rates to new clients and although the rates were lower, did not notify and disclose to existing clients that the rates were lower nor did they offer to lower their rates. I believe that Farmers Insurance is using deceptive pricing practices and should be investigated for fraudulent billing schemes. On a national/global basis, this may be costing consumers millions in excess insurance costs.

Because I value and respect my clients and their needs, and because I value my integrity in the industry, I have resigned as an agent of Farmers Insurance. I cannot in good conscience represent such an unethical organization. This should be investigated and Farmers should be forced to come clean, pay back all of the excess premiums they have collected as the result of such scams, and publicly apologize to the public and clients that have been harmed. Farmers executives should be fined and be given long term prison sentences.

First, I would like to thank you for taking time out from your busy schedule to contact me, a long time Farmers customer, with answers to my questions about my recent claim. Your attention to your customers' concerns is probably one of the reasons that both J.D. Powers, an insurance rating company and Consumer Reports, a consumer rating magazine, both think so highly of your company. We seem to have some confusion about the facts on my recent claim so let me review the chronology that led to Farmers' decision to deny the above claim.

In May 2010, after a thunderstorm, I noticed approximately three or four shingles lying on the ground on the east side of my house. After a cursory examination that revealed no blank spots on the roof, I assumed that the shingles must have blown from my neighbor's house. Unfortunately that was not the case. In August, when I was in the backyard barbecuing, I noticed missing shingles on the ridge cap in the back on the northeast side.

The next day I contacted a roofer, M.C. Roofing. On August 3, 2010 the roofer examined my roof and said that I did have missing shingles, but I also had extensive hail and wind damage on the roof and that I should contact my insurance company. On Friday, August 6, 2010 an adjuster from Farmers Insurance came out and inspected my roof. After an inspection over the entire roof, he told me that I did have hail damage in the amount of about $250.00. He further advised that I should have the roof fixed as soon as possible because not doing so could adversely affect any future claims.

Since my deductible was 1% of $170,000 (for a 1387 square foot house), he said I would have to incur the expense for the roof repairs and Farmers had no liability. He made no mention of builder defects in his repair recommendation. Okay, fine, I call M.C. Roofing back and they come on September 3, 2010 to repair my roof. At that time the roofer advised me that the valley in the front (southwest side) of my house needed to be reinforced. I authorized it and he completed the repair of the roof in the front of my house.

On September 24, 2010, Fort Worth, Texas experienced a prolonged torrential rain event and by 6 am it was raining in the rear of my house. My mattress, walls, ceilings, carpets and a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop were all soaked. I called my longtime insurance company, Farmers, as per the terms of my Replacement Value Homeowner's Policy. A new claim 1016925226-1 was opened and I was informed that an adjuster would be at my house on Thursday, September 30, 2010 between the hours of 10 am-12 noon.

Instead the adjuster and his accomplice called me about 830 am and said that they were en route to my house. I had already told him that I was teaching a class at Tarrant County College and couldn't be there before 10 am. He assured me that they would work outside until I arrived. When I got home, they had done both the outside and the inside inspection, were removing their boots and packing to leave. The adjuster told me that he had determined that the leak was in the rear (northeast side) valley of the house. He told me that there was a builder defect when the house was originally built in 2001 and that the inside of attic, where there is insulation, had been collecting water (I guess since I moved in, in November 2002) and because we had so much water on September 24, 2010, it caused it to leak into the house.

I agreed that the leak appeared to be coming from the rear (northeast) valley and I asked what our next step was. It was then that the adjuster told me that because the leak was a builder defect from eight years ago, Farmers had no liability and that I wasn't covered under my All Peril HOA Homeowner's Policy. I disagreed with the possibility that somehow a builder defect had lain dormant for eight years and I questioned his finding. It was then that his accomplice interjected that the builder defect didn't have to have been there since the house was built, it could have come later. Huh? Anyway, I asked them to leave because I was extremely upset.

A few days later, after talking to my agent, I was subsequently advised that the claim was denied due to a faulty roof repair. Nothing was ever mentioned about a roof repair and the repair was in the front (southwest) valley, not the rear. I have incurred an estimated $7700 worth of damage that Farmers refuses to cover. In an attempt to remedy this unfortunate situation, I am contacting the Texas Board of Insurers, my State Rep. Marc Veasey, Wells Fargo Mortgage Company and local newspapers. Thank you so much for your kind and caring concern and for being willing to accept thousands of dollars in premiums for coverage that was basically worthless.

I have a friend and her husband works in a roof company. They came to visit me one day and he asked me if my roof was covered in my home insurance policy. My answer was a firm yes. I asked him why. He said it’s because I have hail damage and I have to make a claim. Then some days later, I made a claim. They sent an adjuster and the results: “No, your roof is not damaged. It is in very good condition and you don't have to fix it until 7 or 10 years ahead.” Then I called his supervisor and she asked me if my roof had a huge hole or it was leaking and I said no, but I don't want to wait until my house starts leaking. She suggested me to talk with my agent. I went to talk to my agent and he said, “Okay, if they went to check your roof and they said there is no damage, that means no damage." I got confused about it, but at least and after some other incidents with my agent, I realized that he never helped me in many other problems I had with my cars and now with my house.

I was convinced that I needed to find another agent and by that time, a huge hail storm damaged my roof, but I was in shock when the adjuster came to check and told me that my policy had a special endorsement that says I had to be paid just half of the total amount of estimate because my house was built in 1950 and the roof was very old. And the adjuster suggested me to contact my agent. I didn't anymore and I called my agent's supervisor. The supervisor called my agent, Dave, and asked him to review my policy. Then Dave sent some other adjusters from Farmers to re-check the roof and try to find a way to stop Farmers to pay the roof repair. Farmers Insurance is the only company that has that kind of procedures. I was talking with my neighbors and most of them had State Farm Insurance and they do not have any problem at all.

We purchased a Homeowner's Policy from Farmers along with a supplemental "floater" to cover additional jewelery including my wife's engagement and wedding ring. In the policy /floater it specifically states the additional coverage (for which we paid an additional premium) is for insurance of of the items detailed in the floater-listing her rings.

One evening, my wife noted that her 1.5 ct diamond looked "cloudy." After taking it to a reputable jeweler it was determined that the diamond was cracked, not totally uncommon but for which there is no universal cause and according to the jeweler would be covered by our floater. We contacted our Farmers agent (Bill ***) to file a claim who immediately passed us off to the claims agent providing a phone number only and not even making the effort to make a call.

Long and short of it, Farmers made every effort not to cover this loss. During one stage of the investigation the adjuster even contacted the jeweler after receiving his report asking him to re-write the letter using "her words". In addition when I spoke with the Claims Manager he had to go to his legal team to get an explanation of "marring" which the term they used for denial of coverage. If this is in their policy and is being used as the reason for denial of the claim shouldn't the manager know what "marring" is.

Farmers informed us that their floaters provide no additional coverage for the items listed in the floater outside of what is covered in the homeowners policy and for which a premium was paid. Even sillier, they explained if the diamond was completely lost suspiciously it would have been covered! Marring is a term listed in their Homeowners coverage as it pertains tho the structure and integrity of a residence - no mention on how it applies to jewelry.

As a follow up we made several calls to several other insurance agents/brokers including Allstate, Safeco etc. to verify this explanation and took the ring to several credible jewelers and every one had the same response "That's ridiculous! " and "What is marring? " "Never heard of such a thing, this stuff has always been covered. "Most floaters are all risk world-wide."

I incurred a break-in at one of the houses my husband owns and thousands of dollars in items were stolen. My husband has landowners insurance on the property that was broken into. I had taken the items that were stolen over to the house from my personal residence to work on the house. Initially, my insurance rep said the personal property would be covered by my homeowners insurance, since it was personal property that I had taken over there to work on the house. I received a call today. They said that because the property stolen was at a house that my husband owns and he only had fire insurance on the structure, the personal property would not be covered under my homeowners insurance. She stated there is an exclusion that states if the property is at another house owned by me (which it is not, it is my husband’s), that it is not covered.

That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. I asked her if I had been anywhere else and the theft has occurred, if it would have been covered. She said yes. So, I guess I cannot take stuff I own to work on another house I own and have it covered in case of theft, unless the house where the theft occurred has insurance to cover it.

This is the second time in the last 6 years that Farmers has not been there for me when I needed them. A few years ago, I had both wind and hail damage done to my house by two severe storms that came through my area. They filed two separate claims and denied them both, even though I had shingles ripped off of my house. I paid out of pocket to redo the roof and kept all of my receipts. I planned on taking them to small claims court. Before I did that though, I wanted to change insurance companies. Well, no one would accept me because of the two separate claims Farmers filed and they never paid a dime on them. How much worse can it get? I cannot wait to dump them and go with an insurance company that is there when you need them, instead of taking your money for years and years and practicing deceitful ways to screw their customers.

Due to extreme premium increases on auto insurance, I decided to shop around after 15 years with Farmers. I found an affiliate Century 21 that offered multi-policy discount since they were affiliated. Two weeks in advance (before expiration of policy), I notified Farmers of my change effective May 6, 2010. I received a cancellation notice reflecting my wishes.

At the same time, I received this letter my escrow account was billed for an additional $307.00 loss of multi-policy discount without any notice. On May 16, 2010, I received my home owners declaration which reflected an increase of $350.00. I immediately contacted my mortgage company, and learned two of two different billings one for approx. 1,500.00 home owners, then another for the $307.00 no multi-policy discount.

I contacted my agent Robert ** about this situation. Robert stated, "it's not fair but under 70h law, they can do that". Well, after that I immediately found another home owner policy with Liberty Mutual company. That policy went into effect on June 16, 2010, and I canceled Farmers. I received a refund of $1,336.87 out of 1,813.00. I calculated a break down of the difference monthly at $125.50 for two months $251.00 giving them a benefit of doubt, leaving the balance refund of $227.00. No refunds whatsoever. They offered me $40.00.

My auto insurance started out in 2004, brand new $880.00 annually now over $1,110.00. One claim for a shot out windshield driving down the street. My home owners for 15 years. One claim on hail damage. I had to fight for started at $633.00 annually skyrocketed to a staggering $1,813.00 annually.

I would have not changed insurance companies if not for removing money from my escrow account without notification, and unfounded premium increases. This in return has caused increases on my monthly mortgage payments. I would never recommend Farmers insurance company even if I hated them!

When you purchase homeowners insurance in MS, the insurance company tells you how much insurance you have to buy, based on the cost to rebuild your home. When you file a claim, the first thing the insurance company does is start depreciating everything. You buy the policy based on the cost of rebuilding your house but they pay the claim on depreciated values. Secondly, by requiring you to buy a specific amount insurance, they are in fact setting the deductible (for hurricane damage) of 5% of the amount they make you insure for. So now they are getting you at both ends.

They make you insure your home for a ridiculously high amount causing you to have a ridiculously high deductible (my current deductible is $9,500). Then because every thing on your house isn't new, they depreciate it even though the policy is based on the replacement cost of your house. After hurricane Katrina, I had $32,000 damages and was fortunate to recover $17,000 from the insurance company. Five years now since Katrina and my premiums have more than repaid what the insurance company paid out to me, and now this year they just doubled my premiums for no apparent reason.

I have a farmers home owners protector plus policy with a $500.00 deductibles. I bought the policy in April 1996, sq footage is 615 sq . Policy's sq footage was changed right away in May, June 1996 to 1,050 and 1,070 sq footage. I contacted the agent, said the sq footage is wrong. He said he'd take care of it, but never did call. I wrote letters in person but still not changed year after year went by. And I am still on this person's case. They tell me okay, then not do anything all this time. Now, I have been over charged on my premium double plus fees. The agent died and still no change. New fill in agent told this person he really did not want to mess with it, he was temp only.

So another year goes by. Now, new agent comes in. She says she'll take it to the under writers. About 6 months go by, I ask what's going on, still checking. One year, two, three, four, so on and so on and I am always asking when is this going to stop, it's killing me money wise. I found out she was not even trying to fix the problem of sq footage. She said every body was scared to do anything cause they would have to back pay! I contacted claims adjusters. So on, so on, same thing will take care of it!

This started in 1996 and did not get changed till 2009. My agent lowered the premium from $1,386.20 to $1,178.23. For that year, that was already paid for. And I still didn't get a refund. I called, wrote in person, no refund. In 2008/ 2009, Wells Fargo gets re billed, went back up to $1,377.25 with 616 sq footage and that's also with a vehicle discount. And still no refund. So, if there is anybody out there that can help with this really really big error from 1996-2010 of overcharging on premiums.

I also put in claim for winter storm inside roof condensation and adjusters came out, took pictures of out side walls with water stains running down walls, molds growing, went up into attic. Took pictures of side eves and said per water damage from poorly installed trundle vent. Poor workmanship claim, they called ice dam damage. So claim denied. I got this in a letter, weeks later.

I'm 52 years old and have back disabilities (fused). It took me a long time to get up there but I did. And it looked like a v plow went throw. I looked at what was to be roof rot. But was really roll roofing and tar holding it in place not bad roof.

I had a LIC, bonded, certified by state of Minnesota. Roofer give sworn statement that roof vents where installed 100% right and as far as he could see no prior water damage in past. I took pictures of all and sent letter, pictures e-mail to the claims document center along with request for refund sq footage 1996-2010. Only got back recorded phone calls . The girl in attic said she, the other adjuster that was with her here at home and the two other adjusters that were out at the house!. Which was them! Two. And their supervisor, a so called 5 person review said they looked everything over and they all decided that there never was an ice dam, so claim denied. End of story. Closed and will not be opened again.

2010 had a bad snow storm. Diffed the vent, shut water condensation like crazy and had to go up on roof in 58mph winds gust! I almost lost my life because of that storm. But anyways, turned in same claim condensation ice,dam damage. I got only phone call back saying from the same girl that was up in attic that I could not use old claim #. I had to do a new one and that I could not use the old claim of ice dam damage like that you had last year. And that is also a left recorded message. Now, does that sound like there was ice dam on the roof? The girl even said, there was an ice dam on the house last years claim. The end. So, if anybody knows what one can do to get some action out of this company, please let me know. I'm going to send them a notary affidavit statement with old claim numbers and current pictures of ice dam damage and see what they got to say now.

I was laid up for a long time and almost blown off and killed for going up there on that roof to open the vents. Also pain suffering from my back and also all the overcharged moneys of the wrong sq footage. For years and years and being told and told so that would be knowing about an error of overcharging and I think that could possibly be called fraud! So, I would like to get money back refund and also get all this mold out of the attic, insulation, in attic, walls, basement, basically, all threw the house top to bottom. I have got dehumidifiers, fans any thing that blows or moves air around but the walls show water damage inside and out. So I don't know how good the wall will dry out. So, all I can say is help!

Our home is a major asset in our estate and what they want to do will decrease the value of it as an asset. The adjusters told us one thing in our living room, but what they wrote up was different. Then they screwed up all our car insurance. It looks like to be harassment to me.

If we accept their settlement offer, we will not be able to have any guaranty on our roof. The repair they choose to do will create a patchwork effect on the roof and the roof will have varied levels and colors. We would have to totally redo it to have any uniformity at our own expense and nobody would buy this house should we have to sell. What's the point of insurance? We have been paying them almost $6,000 a year for at least 10 years.

On May 10, 2010, I had hail damage to the roof of my house. I called the Farmer's Insurance HelpPoint claim's line and filed a claim. A few days later, one of their adjusters, Kevin **, came out to evaluate the damage. He wrote a report. Then wrote me an initial check. Below is a summary of what happened next:

Page 5 Summary for Dwelling shows a replacement cost value of $8,297.67. The depreciation withheld was $1,884.94 which brings the Actual Cash Value to $6,412.73. My deductible was factored in and I was given a check in the amount of $5,412.73. Kevin told me that the depreciation amount, $1884.94, would be refunded to me once I show that the repairs have been completed, or when I fax a signed copy of any repair agreement. He told me that this depreciation was for the roof and the carport. After he left, I sat down and re-read his report. Page 3 shows the roof depreciation amount of $1,115.13. And, it shows the carport depreciation amount of $611.20. The roof, and carport, depreciation totals $1726.33 not $1884.94 as stated on page 5. I called Kevin and informed him that his math was wrong and there is $158.61 extra that isn't accounted for in the report. He told me that they always figure in a little extra for unforeseen issues like damaged decking and such. Sure enough, when the shingles were removed, there was some damaged decking that had to be replaced.

Page 4, and page 6, both show a code upgrade in the amount of $590.40. Kevin explained that this is because I had two layers of shingles and code is only for one layer. He told me that I would be paid an additional $590.40 for bringing my roof up to code. So, adding the roof depreciation, carport depreciation, and code upgrade, brings my total recoverable depreciation amount to $2316.73. That doesn't even factor in the floating amount of $158.61.

When I spoke to Kevin on the phone, I asked him if the $2316.73 can be added to the $5412.73 amount that I had already been paid in order to obtain a final figure for how much I can spend on repairs. He said, "Yes." As you can see $2316.73, plus $5412.73, is $7729.46. I signed a contract with a local construction company to do all the repairs to the roof, carport, gutters, and fascia boards (which the claim document is calling siding). The construction company agreed to do all the repairs for $7500.00. This is less than the amount that I had available to spend on the repairs.

As Kevin instructed, I faxed a copy of the signed repair agreement to Farmer's and referenced my claim number. My claim was assigned to Leann **. I called Leann yesterday morning and asked if she had received the paperwork that I had faxed last week. She said she did and would be working on my claim that day. She called me a few hours later and told me that the paperwork was done and that she would be issuing me a check for $1315.02. I asked her why the amount was so low and not the $2316.73 that I was expecting. She stated that she had to withhold my deductible. I told her that my deductible had already been factored in on the day that Kevin wrote the original claim and wrote me the first check. She then started accusing me of trying to make money on this deal. I told her that I was not out to make any money. I only wanted what was promised to me because I had counted on that money when I signed the repair agreement.

Again, the original check was for $5412.73. She is cutting me another check for $1315.02. That brings the amount to $6727.75. I signed a repair agreement for $7500.00. Since my deductible has been withheld twice, I am now short $772.25. I had to cancel the repair that was to be done on my carport. Luckily, the repair hadn't been done yet. Otherwise, I would have had to pay for it out of my own pocket. I emailed my insurance agent and told him what was going on. I faxed him copies of everything. He looked it over and actually quoted me a completely different price than what the previous two adjusters had told me. So, that's three insurance agents, quoting me three different prices, based on the same claim. I'm debating whether to file a lawsuit and have a judge decide what is right and fair in this case.

We have an extremely complicated case that no one will help us with. We were building a house. On February 28th 2009, it burned to the ground. It was investigated and ruled an accident. Farm Bureau mailed us a check without any discussion with us on our losses for $157,400. Since our losses exceeded well over $220,000, we refused to sign the check and accept it as final settlement. This caused our bank who held our construction loan to file suit against Farm Bureau. It dragged on until April 2010 when Farm Bureau settled with the bank to end the lawsuit. This lawsuit had nothing to do with us and any final settlement between us as the insurance policy holders and our insurance company Farm Bureau.

However, our two attempts to get the Michigan Financial and Insurance Regulation to please look at our case, they didn't even read our complaint. First, they sent a "case closed" and when I called her crying, it was obvious she didn't even know the basic facts about our case. So she said she would look again but this time only photocopied Bradley Copeland's reply stating a bald faced lie, that it was all settled in court and we had no claim. Nothing was settled in court other than they agreed to pay our bank more money. They still refuse and intend to never clean up the fire debris, which makes our property useless and of no value to sell. We owed so much money after the fire for construction costs that we were forced to file Chapter 7. This has now led us to being in jeopardy of foreclosing on our current home and forced us to lose the $6000 equity we had in our primary vehicle. We lost everything, not just the house that burned down all because in Michigan, Farm Bureau practices their craft of lies without anybody having the power to stop them. They decided they would only give us $157,400 for our fire which might as well been $1 since the end result is the same.

The Michigan Finance and Insurance Regulation office just simply washed their hands of us and said, "Hire an attorney." We tried that route once and all it ended up with was a lawyer who wanted us to do everything Farm Bureau wanted us to do and then every time we talked to him, 10 minutes was spent on our case and the other 50 minutes was on how he needed to be paid and we needed to always be coming up with more money than we had already gotten him. We can't find anyone who cares that this fire has ruined our lives. We've lost everything and Farm Bureau continues to advertise for more poor unsuspecting souls to pay them for nothing!

If you contact Bradley **, you must understand that he will tell you almost all lies. We have the evidence but is anyone out there going to spend the 20 hours it will take to know the actual situation? Right now, all we could afford to do was put a billboard up at our burned property stating who the insurance company was that isn't cleaning it up and a presentation to help explain. In contrast, our neighbors lost their house to a fire this last Christmas and within four months their insurance company Frankenmuth has rebuilt their home, cleaned what effects could be salvage, housed them, stored their items and overall was amazing. They have a hard time looking us in the eyes because they feel so guilty they were treated so good. We keep trying to tell them that we are so happy that they didn't get treated liked us. Because they had Farm Bureau when we had our fire, but after seeing how we were treated they switched and just in time because we know what would have happened to them!

If anyone reads this and cares enough to actually fight on our behalf one, I'll be amazed and two, so grateful. We are so tired of trying to find compassion. I wish we had had no insurance at this point because the outcome would have been better. We wouldn't have been dragged to court with no hope of any ruling in our favor unless we could afford an attorney to put in a counter claim. The one we hired didn't even attempt that much but gladly took every dime we had. Would you want to lose everything you have because one asset gets destroyed in a fire? Is that what you believe should happen to you?

I am a homeowner who has had insurance with Farmers Insurance on this home for the last 9 to 10 years. When I purchased this home in December 1999, it went through inspections and later found out that the roof had to be replaced. After the roof was replaced, it was inspected again and we closed on the home. Farmers gave it a clean bill of health, so to speak. In 2005, El Paso experienced inclement weather, which is not out of the ordinary. Rains, strong winds and I started to notice leaks in the master bedroom, garage and front entrance to my home. Farmers came out to inspect the home and the adjuster took pictures, measurements and she said I should have a warranty on this roof.

We later found out the company who had did the roof went out of business. Farmers said they would not cover it due to pre-existing conditions and depreciation of my home. Then in May 2005, El Paso experienced a hailstorm and again, I called Farmers Insurance and they came out while I was at work and gave an inspection and left a check in the mailbox for $1,716.84. He (the adjuster called via telephone) later called and said they would cover only the garage portion. He did not even mention my sky lights and I asked about the interior. Again, they claimed pre-existing, etc. By this time, I had major damages. That amount was a joke. I had only minor repairs done just enough to hold us over. I could not even replace the sky lights with that amount.

Then in September 16, 2009 El Paso again experienced a major hailstorm with hail the size of golf balls. I even saved several of it in the freezer for evidence because I know how Farmers Insurance has not been working with me. Again, they came out, took their pictures and did their measurements. Mr. Russel ** gave me a letter showing my deductible of $500.00 and left. Later I got a letter from Farmers Insurance that they will not be covering my roof replacement due to not replacing my roof in 2005. Then I emailed, called and left a message to have them call me back as I wrote them a letter of how disappointed I was with their services.

I have used Farmers Insurance for my house, car and life insurance in the last 20 or more years. They have done nothing of great interest to help me, while most of all my neighbors have received $4,500 to even $8,000 with no problems with their insurance companies. They were shocked to see and hear of all the damages in my home that have not been covered. I spoke to Mark ** in the main office of Oklahoma and he said they would not be covering my roof due to not replacing my roof in 2005, in which $3,917.00 (the $1,716.00 included) was so-called allocated to do so. I called my mortgage company to see if they knew anything about this and they did not have any file on this. Now I have extensive damage and it is a nightmare to live with when I pay Farmers thousands of dollars a year.

Farmers Insurance has now placed me in "inactive status" and still do not plan to cover my roof. In this last hailstorm, I have had a back sliding door shattered, a back window broken, the storms have caused mold to grow in my garage and I am constantly spraying it with Clorox. I have two major fire hazards in the garage where water drips directly on to the electrical box and in the main entrance where water drips from the lamp fixture. This home is not just a fire hazard, but a health hazard. Farmers Insurance has continually failed to support me and has continually denied my home of any roof and interior repairs. If they would have fixed my roof the first time in 2005, this house would not have the major extensive damage it has now.

So, I had to call and complain and email the pictures I had taken of the actual hail that hit my property to my agent and she called claims as well. I got a second "inspection" to be told they would only replace 56 shingles on my whole roof. They totaled my garage metal roof and paid for all the gutters and downspouts for hail dents. But they adamantly refuse to pay for the older part of my roof claiming “wear and tear". But I had the home for only 2.5 years before this claim.

They said the pictures I have of the shingle being whole before the storm being intact and broken and still on the roof after the hail only proved they were accurate. Not that the actual hail broke the shingles. The Kips supervisor has never returned a single phone call to me or my agent and Farmers said that I am just trying to get them to pay for a roof that should have already been replaced prior to the storm. It’s not that they insured it the way it was, but they took my money happily for 2.5 years and I am entitled to the policy protection I signed. We had to get on the roof and tear it off with a contractor to save on labor costs and pay out of pocket an additional $8,000. The stress and aggravation they have caused me just to get the coverage I had paid for is unbelievable.

I changed to other insurance policies in the past several years but kept one. Until 5/09, I requested Marianne to try to give me a better rate for the rental property that I kept with Farmers. I contacted Farmer's Homeowners Insurance to inform them of what had happened. The adjustor came back out to my house and left a check to replace the one cabinet for the amount of $869. However, she led me to believe they had left me a check for over $5000. This adjustor was extremely rude and unprofessional with her attitude. I contacted my agent, only to hear that this was the second complaint he had on this adjustor, so he contacted the district office. I told them I was not happy with the results of their adjustor. By them only wanting to replace the one cabinet, countertop and backsplash, my kitchen will now have a mismatch of cabinetry, which will depreciate the value of my home. I was led to believe that my home would be replaced to its original value and prior to this incident.

Now, they tell me they are only paying to replace the one cabinet because my cabinetry in my kitchen is not continuous. I argue this fact as my cabinets are continuous, all of which are the same. I have even filed a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance, which was a joke too. I thought they were there for the consumers, but it appears they are there for the insurance company too. Why do we pay such high prices for insurance to protect our property, when it appears all they are doing is taking our hard-earned money and placing it into their pockets.

I was told I could file for an appraisal of my property at my cost and Farmers would have their own. Yada, yada, blah, blah. But, after reading the many complaints against Farmer's and how some of you have also gone through these steps, it sounds as if it would not only be a waste of my time but more expense out of my pocket as well. I have posed the questions to the district office, the adjustor, Denise (her supervisor), William, as well as the Texas Department of Insurance in Austin where I filed my complaint, along with many others. And I ask you "If this was your house and your insurance company told you they were only going to replace one cabinet in your kitchen, not the cabinets beside it or above it, would you be happy with that decision?" Guess what? Their answer was (they all said) a definite no!

So then, why then will they not take care of this! Now, I have to go to further expense of taking out a home improvement loan to put my kitchen back to its original value. I can tell you one thing: Once this is all said and done, I will cancel my insurance with Farmers. That would be my home and my three cars. And before I get another insurance, I will be asking a lot of questions about what is covered and what is not, then I verify that I have it in writing in English that we, the consumers, can understand without all the loophole garbage.

I bought a home in September 2008. When I bought the home, I knew that I needed to do major remodeling and extension to make it livable. I called the insurance agent and asked for a quote explaining to her my intent for extension. She gave me a good quote and also advised me to not ask for an inspection since Farmers will figure out that I am doing major remodeling and my insurance rate will go up. She did mention that she is giving me same coverage as with inspection but cheaper.

During the remodeling which took about 6 months, all my brand new appliances (worth $15K) that were stored in a locked up garage were stolen from the insured property. When I filed the claim, I was told sorry theft is not covered for properties under remodel. My agent knew the situation clearly and sent me papers that I signed which did not mention any of these. Although later on, I did get a 50-page document with lots of fine print listing all the things that are not covered. They sold me the wrong policy without telling me relevant details! Farmers just wants your business but does not help you when you need it. I lost $15K worth of appliances and had to live in a kitchen with no appliances for 4 weeks, eating out every single meal.

Having wind at speeds over 75 mph, I inspected our roof. After noticing substantial damage, I contacted Farmers claim service. They sent out Chuck ** of their Catastrophic Claims Team. I was told that I only had $596.39 in damage. All the while, my roof felt is showing. My neighbors next door, behind me, across the street all have new roofs. The roof on my house has much, much more damage. I contacted a roofing contractor, Barrett Roofing Service. They have over 28 years in the roofing business. They inspected the roof and suggested I call Farmers again and have another claims specialist come out. They could not believe that Farmers had rejected a new roof. This time claims representative, Duane **, came out and met with my roofing contractor. I was again told that my claim totaled $695.73. My contractor was dumbfounded. I also hired a professional engineer who stated that the roof needed to be replaced. I received a letter stating that the county building code verified the 3-tab roofing met current code. What does that have to do with anything!?

I decided that I would just go ahead with the repairs. This time, I went on the roof. What I saw was horrible. At that point, I started calling Farmers again. There is no way this roof can be fixed! Everything that my engineer said was true. I contacted claims supervisor, Phill **. He promptly told me, "Tough. That's our decision." Gee, thanks, Phill. I really felt like you could give flying crap! I felt all we would do is put a band-aid fix. I told my roofer to do emergency repairs. I have always done my due diligence to protect my property and keep the roof from leaking into the living area. Thank goodness because we had 8 inches of snow a week later and another 3 inches again today.

At this point, I have gone into appraisal. What another joke. The letter states that I need to make written demand for appraisal problem being where do you send the letter? I have made six different letters for demand and I am sending one to each address that I can find! I have been a loyal Farmers customer for over 30 years. I have never put in frivolous claims. I contracted with them in good faith to protect my homes and autos. I have never been treated this poorly. I thought that I was protected. Why do we pay for insurance? Farmers HelpPoint, what a joke.

Last year 2008 we changed our home and auto insurance to Farmers Ins Group because they offered us a better deal than the company we had been with for 20 years. We did get better coverage for less cost in 2008. But now a year later the insurance premiums are arriving for 2009 coverage. We own 2 vehicles and also have our home insured with Farmers. Our rates have risen drastically. We have not had a claim or accident in over 20 years. Our credit rating is excellent so we wonder what is happening here? When we called our agent he said across the board rates are going up 15%. Ours is up appx 25%. Plus they do not allow monthly or quarterly payments. So we have 2 choices to pay in full or pay a $101.00 late fee, it is not presented as a late fee but that's exactly what it is if not paid in full now. This fee is for only one 1994 vehicle and then they only allow the client to make 2 payments to pay off the entire premium. We have not received the premiums on home and our other vehicle yet, but did receive a estimate of our cost for insuring both vehicles and our home in 2009. It will be at least 25% more for premiums this year and that's if we pay in full by April 2009. If we do not pay in full by April, fees will be tacked on to each item insured. They do not call it a fee either. They say we can get a discount if paid in full or pay a higher rate in two payments. Now remember this is for a 1994 vehicle that is rarely driven, a pick up truck. Our discounted rate for this one vehicle would be $474.40 if paid in full by April. Our optional 2 payments would cost us a total of $575.40. Now come on, what is wrong with this picture? It smells of robbery to us. This is how we are treated for never having an accident and never filing an insurance claim in over 20 years. We will be finding another insurance company, but wanted folks that are insurance shopping and will hopefully seek out this site, to know Farmers is not the insurance company you want to go with no matter how great a deal they show you for the first year. It's sad that in a time of such difficult economic times for us all, that this insurance company would take advantage of their clients.

I cancelled my homeowner's polciy with Farmers and switched to another company without any lapse in coverage. I sent Farmers a copy of my declaration page. Kristen at Farmers was aware of my plan to cancel because I cancelled my auto insurance as well and to get the auto/insurance discount with the new company I was going to move my home owner's insurance. I cancelled my auto insurance with Farmers because they drastically increased my rates.

On March 3, 2009, I contacted my insurance agent of 11 years to file a claim for my roof's wind damage. My agent, Rus Moses, tried to tell me I wasn't covered because I have an HOA. I reminded him of our conversation several years ago when, after he spoke with my HOA's office, he assured me my Farmers policy would cover my building and my roof specifically. His memory was refreshed when he found his notes of that incident. He told me to call Farmers Property Claims Rep. Lee Lipniskis and we would proceed on my claim after she assessed the damage to my roof. I called his office twice, but to this day he has not initiated any communication with me, and I have not spoken to him since that day. On March 6th, Lee returned my call and said she had spoken with Rus and he told her I was not covered (the oposite than what he had told me earlier that day) so she wanted to cancel my claim without viewing my roof. I told her I'd had two other roofing companies out for estimates and they'd told me the roof needed to be replaced and my insurance company should cover it. She came out on March 12th and after seeing my roof, she said there was very little damage, but told me that she wanted me to get my portion of the deductible from my HOA because she felt Farmers could help get that back for me. She gave me the name of a roofer, Russ Perkins with All In One Contractors, who works with Farmers on wind damage claims. He came out that same day and was on my roof for less than 10 minutes. He told me the roof needed replacing. When I told him Lee had said the exact opposite, he laughed and said Lee didn't even know what to look for. He said he'd e-mail me an estimate. I have yet to hear from him. While I was getting the information Lee had requested from my HOA, she went right back to her office and canceled my claim. I have been been given the run-around and shuffled from one person to another with two goals in mind - to wear me down and to deny my claim. In these 11 years I have never filed a claim with Farmers on either my house or my auto, and this whole incident has proven them to be both deceitful and incompetent.

In 2006, my husband and I purchased a home in Kansas and relocated here from North Carolina. Robert Kelly was the agent we worked with when we set up our new homeowners policy. We specifically asked for advice on the coverage we would need for our home and indicated that we needed help in the area of coverage for a home containing a basement, considering we had never had a basement in previous homes. He told us we were covered for everything except floods (the Act of God type). We trusted that our HOME in its entirety would be covered for any damage that would occur, outside of certain natural disasters.
Yesterday, March 12th, 2009, we reported our first claim. We discovered that our sump pump had stopped working and our basement was flooded. We called the hotline and the lady helped us contact a water removal service and was quite helpful with making arrangements for an adjuster, although it was Thursday night that it happened and the earliest anyone would be able to come check it out was the following Tuesday! More to the point though, nearly 2 hours passed and we had not heard from the service who was to contact us about the water removal. I called the hotline back and explained the lack of contact, and she called them back. They offered to come to the house between 2am and 3am, but I asked for a different time. So, we settled on them coming to start the process at 9am. This morning, around 8am, the insurance adjuster calls us and tells us that they will not be able to help us out because we did not have a “sump pump endorsement to cover the damage caused by malfunctioning sump pumps or blockage to drains. They cancelled the water removal and told us they could not help with anything further. Contacting our “oh so helpful agent, Mr. Kelly, did nothing either. He simply said that we should have read our policy better before signing it. We have the common sense to read a policy, but when we specifically ask for help choosing coverage for a home with a basement and our agent does not tell us that certain exclusions apply, how are we supposed to know that something is not included in a total home policy?! We were told that we would need separate coverage for NATURAL DISASTERS since the Farmers Group does not handle floods. Nobody ever indicated exclusion of or offered extra coverage for sump pumps. It is home insurance and we had no reason to question if a mechanical malfunction would be covered. Isn’t that something we should be told?!?!

The only problem is that we never asked for a quote from this company! On the opposite side of the 'bill' was the information about the owner of the insurance agency.
If I wouldn't have been there when my wife opened up the mail, my wife would have just put this 'advertising' piece with the bills to be paid.

I sustained a black water flood in my home on sept. 6, 2008. I filed a claim with my insurance carrier, farmers and they sent an adjuster out by the 9th. The adjuster looked around and called me three days later telling me he would send me a check for 6thousand dollars for known damages. I requested that he not send a check yet and give me time to contact some contractors to come in and give me bids to repair and clean up the home. He agreed and I started contacting contractors. The following week I tried to contact him and could not and spoke with his supervisor, Michelle Garcia, who told me that he had been sent to Texas where there were "real emergencies". She continued to tell me that she sent out the check for six thousand dollars because state law mandate that she send me the money and if I refused it, she would be forced to close my claim and if I were to try to re open it, it would be denied due to the flood being a preexisting condition. I continued to get proposals and was given a new adjuster. The new adjuster has never physically instpected the house.... I requested some names of prefered contractors and was told that the insurance company could not give me any and was told to just get bids, submit them and pick one out and farmers would look at the bid and write me a check so I could get work started on my home. After five weeks of collecting proposals I submitted all five of them and picked one out. Three days before I was getting ready to remove my three children out of the sewage infested home (farmers refused to pay for a hotel for me at the begining) I was then told by the adjuster that now farmers had to send in a contractor of their own. Never once was I told that this was going to happen. I agreed to have their contractor come in to my home. He sent farmers a draft proposal directly although he is supposed to be an un biased third party. He sent farmers a proposal of 11 thousand dollars, almost 20 thousand dollars less than any of the five I had received. Farmers has denied paymend for certain items on my proposal from my contractor because the proposal was not written in "xactimate" format... or because the confered with "their" contractor and he said it wasnt needed. or would not charge that amout. I sustained a black water flood... which is raw sewage. Farmers denied, on a recoverable claim, payment to cover antimicrobial scrubbing of the slab after the flooring was removed. They paid their prefered vendor to spray the wood floor, but will not pay my contractor to spray and scrub, and fog the home after the walls and flooring was removed. They are boardering on bad faith, steering, conspircy to commit fraud and RICO violations. They refused to cut out any dry wall, pull up flooring or fogging with anti micorobial at the begining. My three kids and I lived in the home for almost 5 weeks in sewage, with open sewer lines filling the home with methaine gases. We started to get sick with bad sore throats, pussy eye disscharges, allergies, head aches, dark eye circles, and body aches. Farmers fianlly agreed to send me to a hotel that they "direct bill" with after I sent them a letter informing them I had obtained the services of a Certified Industrial Hygenist. My home is being repaired, but they continue to fight me on money. They have deducted my deductable twice but say they have not and when I ask where it is, they flippantly say, "read the numbers". They have a quasi fudiciary duty to me, and are breaking that duty. I want help, I need help. Can you assist?
