My spa tub was leaking hot water. I called AHS and the company they refered me to called the next day. The tech showed up 5 days later 7/10/08. The guy didn't have a clue how to fix it. He said he would have to check with his boss and AHS and call me back. After waiting 1 week for a call back, I called AHS. They thought the problem had been resolved.

They then called then Company and said that someone would call me back. They never did. I called them. I spoke to one of the bosses. He told me they couldn't find the invoice. I told them I had my copy. So, he came out the same day and looked at the tub and said the valves needed to be replaced and they would order the parts.

Well, finally on 7/28/08, someone came out to replace the valves. They ordered the wrong parts. I'm still waiting. I'm thinking about canceling my contract. My water and light bill is higher because of this problem.

I have two sewage ejector pumps in the basement. On Friday, one pump ran continuously running and I called a plumber and he said I should shut it else it will burn out. He said these pumps shouldn't run for more than 5 minutes and if it's running continuously (on auto mode), I should turn it off. However, I kept the second pump on auto mode. Then after some time second pump also did the same thing. I had to switch off the second pump also. I used the manual mode of second pump to pump the sewage water.

I called AHS (American Home Shield (and placed a service request. # 134892582). They marked the request as emergency and were willing to give me an outside authorization as they couldn't get hold of any plumber. But then they got somebody and a plumber came on Saturday (Jersey Plumbing Company, # 908 281 7101). After looking at the situation, he called AHS and was kept on hold for 20 mts. He left because he has to go for another job. I keep on calling AHS and there were no positive response. The plumber gave the pricing on Monday and I continued calling AHS and the rep told me that it with Jeff at authorization dep't of AHS and he will respond soon.

Anyway Jeff didn't responded and I again called and this time the supervisor told that it's with Jeff's Supervisor and that person will call me shortly. I have been repeatedly told that somebody will call me but nobody did from authorization dept of AHS. I continued calling but with no result. Then on Tuesday, MTP Plumbing Company called and they said they are coming for 2nd opinion. I have leave job and go to home to attend them. They looked and they reported the problem.

I keep on calling AHS for an answer as the situation is getting worse but with no response.

On Wednesday, I continued calling and then learned that it's with Evalin J. at Research Dept of AHS and she will let me know. However the rep told me that "no to be quoted", that she is planning to deny the request. I got the phone number of Evalin's and called up and waited for 20 mts to get to her but she was on the phone (as told to me). I have been told repeatedly that somebody will call. I explained that situation is very bad, water is leaking from the tank to my basement, and my families (2 kids) have left the property because it's unhealthy and dangerous. But no response from AHS.

Its now 2.30 PM on Wednesday, I have called a plumber to get it fixed at my own expense. However for the harassment, metal torture and the pain I went through for the last so many days, I intent to take legal action on AHS and want them to compensate. I have noted down names of few supervisor (Judy, Ashley, Petra and in fact spoke to manager, Trice on Tuesday at 3.34 PM, July 29, 2008). I can't express that how dejected I am and regret taking coverage from AHS. Its. 3.05 PM, July 30, 2008 (Wednesday) and still no response from AHS. Repair of pumps ~ $3,000 Leaving the property, pain and suffering of my family, loss of time in calling, mental harrasment, damage to the property: $10,000,000

Friday night, July 26, 2008, the A/C went out. Put in a call to AHS and was told that I would receive a call within 24 hours. Saturday came and went and yet no call. Sunday morning, I called again and was told that unless the temperature was over 105 degrees it was not considered an emergency. The heat index was 105 on Saturday. My wife and I have two Samoyeds that live inside and the concern was for their safety and our sanity. Finally, on Monday, I called the A/C company (Climate Doctor Heating and Air) I was told would handle my case and was told by the service person that someone would be able to come to my house between 9-11AM on Tuesday.

No one showed up until 11:15AM. Service person stayed until 12:45PM and said that the compressor was shot and because my unit was over 21 years old, it would be best to replace the condenser and coils instead of the compressor because of the age of the unit and the extended warranty that you get with a condenser. Said he would put the call into AHS about the service. AHS calls me back to tell me that the service is not covered because the tech said that the compressor went bad because of lack of maintenance which is not covered per some bogus section code. I told her that my unit was 21 years old and the tech told me it was because of the age of the unit, but she said that is not what was reported and they will not cover it. After a few choice words, I told her that I would get a second opinion.

Three guys came to my house today and said that the unit appeared well maintained in a clean area and the reason it went out was because of age. We have had several other things go out in our house and almost every time, the service is not covered because of some made-up reason. We held onto the contract in the event that the A/C did go out. I agree with the rest of the posters that I should have saved the money and used a quality service tech who would do the job the right way. $480/year for 4 years is down the tubes. AHS is such a scam and their service techs are shotty. By the way, those other A/C techs I called for a second opinion came to my house within an hour of calling. AHS customer service is rude and it is difficult to deal with them.

$3600 for a condenser and coils that I will have to pay out of pocket. The ability to sue AHS...priceless.

I have American Home Shield contracts on my primary home as well as a rental property that I own. Over the years I have had several run in's with AHS and their incredibly poor service. I absolutely dread anytime something goes wrong in one of the homes as I know I have to gear up for a fight with AHS before it gets fixed. I consider myself an extremely patient person, but working with AHS is more hastle than it's worth and I will not be renewing my contract. Here is the straw that broke the proverbial camels back for me. I received a call from my renter that their AC stopped working on a 100F+ day.

I immediately called AHS for service and they assigned it to a local service tech in my area. Knowing AHS well, I didn't wait for the tech to call me rather, I called him immediately and told him that a service ticket was coming through and could he schedule me ASAP. He let me know that he was a one man show and he was going out of town on vacation for two weeks and would not be able to do the repair. I called AHS back and let them know. They tried to find another AHS certified repairman but could not. After much trouble they allowed me to search the phone book and find a repairman myself. I did this and got him out that very day. His recommendation was to replace the unit due to age and the nature of the repair. This was declined by AHS and he was told to fix the unit.

He ordered the parts (took four days) then made the covered repair. Once the initial repair was made he found another problem with the unit. He was told not to fix it, that AHS would get one of their contracters out to make their own assessment. Several days later, the AHS serviceman went to the unit and made the same assessment. For some reason that person also could not do the repair so they sent another qualified repairman to the house and he said the only thing wrong was that a cap was loose and we needed freon. He obviously didn't check the system as within 24 hours my renter was calling me very upset that his AC was out again.

From my first call until the AC was fixed it took over 2.5 weeks...in the middle of summer. I told AHS that my renter has a heart condition and this fell completely on deaf ears, they just didn't care. The company that originally diagnosed the problem said it could be fixed in 2 days. Now I had to open another ticket and start this process again. I called AHS and let them know about the problem. They sent out the contractor who fixed it last but he couldn't fit us on the schedule for 2 days. I asked for permission to find another outside company but was denied, even after talking with a Supervisor. I had to wait the 2 days.

Once he finally made it out to the house, he had to order another part and we waited 3 more days for it to come in and another 3-4 days for him to install it. The air went out again shortly after it was repaired. I called that one in and it was repaired within 24 hours. The overall lack of communication, poor service, understanding people, and bad business practices, etc. all add up to one very unsatisfied customer...me!

Damages from this one repair: 1) I had to buy a window AC unit and a fan for my renter: $475.00 2) I put my renter up in a hotel for 5 days: $500 3) I deducted $400 in monthly rent due to the 4 weeks of problems that he experienced 4) I made 4 trips to the house which is 1 hour each way to meet contractors, put in window units, etc. 5) I paid my renters electric bill for the 2 months at approx. $300. Luckily, my renters heart condition didn't get worse through all this or I'd probably get sued by my renter, and you could be sure that I would drag AHS into the lawsuit.

On July 26th my wife calls me to inform me the air conditioning is not working. She called American Home Shield to make a service call and is told it would be 24 hours. It was 104 degrees and going to be 105 the next day. We have two small children and called them back to see if it could be sooner. They told us they would get someone out to us.

On Sunday the next day we waited around and no show. My wife called the 5 times and went through the ranks and was lied to by everyone she spoke with. I was telling a friend of mine what was going on and he had a friend that owns his on A/C business which is 50 miles away. Hid friend agreed to come and look at it since it was so hot and I have small children. He came and replace the part which was only $25.00 and just asked I pay for his fuel which we figure was only $25.00.

Day three has come and gone and we have yet to see someone from American Home Shield. On Sunday evening we called them back and got the same run around so we asked for a number to the corporate office and email and was told they did not know either. 72 Hours have past and the temp has been 100+ every day. I will talk to someone in charge at this place.

We had an electrical fire outside my home which required turning the power completely off to the house from the street. After things were remedied and the power restored, my A/C unit went out - stopped working completely. Called AHS to report my problem. They sent someone from Greenway Home Services here to assess the A/C. He said that the compressor was definitely blown out and the unit needed to be replaced. The report he gave to AHS was that the unit was 'dirty' and condenser was 'clogged' - so AHS is refusing to replace it.

Not only that, no one even called us to give us the report or diagnosis. WE called them. (They said that someone was going to call to let us know eventually.) Now it is 100 degrees here and we have now been without air going on 2 weeks. I am paying for a contract which serves NO PURPOSE, along with a $55 dollar service fee and getting worse than substandard customer service, etc. I can certainly handle yearly maintenance on my A/C - lets face it, it stays outside and will get dirty. Pulling weeds around the unit, hosing it off and having someone check it out yearly is necessary.

My unit was working perfectly, blowing cold and hard just before it went out. I have asked to have someone else come out today to reassess the unit for another opinion. Hopefully things will be resolved, but just like I read earlier--they may go with the initial service diagnosis. I am a single mom with 4 children and animals. I have a service contract on my home for a reason. HELP SOMEONE! this is ridiculous.

Our A/C unit went out 10 days from this date. We have called AHS every day to find out the status of our repair. AHS reply has been that the service company that they have sent out to fix the unit has not gotten back to them with there findings. The service company has been out to fix the unit 3 times but was unable to fix it so a new compressor is needed. The service company claims that they have notified AHS 3 times about replacing the compressor and AHS claims that they haven't.

I belive that the service contractor has contacted American Home Shield because it is work and money for them to replace the compressor. We are just getting a run around from AHS becasue they don't want to pay out any money for replacing anything.

The temp. has been near 100 degrees just about every day since the A/C unit went out and living here in Atlanta, GA there has been a health advisory out every day also to stay inside do to the high heat index. It has been unbareable trying to live in this heat.

I have paid $480 a year for 4 years for nothing. AHS is a sham, false advertising at it's best, and shotty, work from the companies they employ. My first experience with them was concerning my dryer which did not work. I was informed that it was a recalled model by Maytag and they would only pay $200.00 toward a new dryer. That is not how the contract reads nor what they advertise. Strike one!

Second experience: my frigerator stopped cooling. AHS sent first repair man, he got it runnin again, it worked for about a week, I called, they sent another repair man, he so called fixed it. It ran for about 2 weeks. I became frustrated and went out and bought another frige. I, after all, have had to replace groceries twice by then. Strike two!

Third and last: I sit here on Sat. evening after waiting for a Plumber from All Pro Plumbing since Thurs. afternoon when he literally ran out my house saying I have to get a part and will be back in an hour. I have not heard from him, or ALL Pro Plumbing, and have made numerous phone calls to AHS from which I get the run around and one empty promise the plumber is scheduled to be here 8a-1200noon. that was this mornig. I was irate and told AHS that I would get my own plumber and I will be sending them my water bill for these days that he left water running in my tub with no way to turn it off. (the faucet is in pieces on the floor) STRIKE 3 AHS IS OUT!

NOW, I THINK WE SHOULD FILE A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, ANYONE KNOW A GOOD ATTORNEY? After reading letter after letter, I would like to call the TV station as well.

Loss of alot of money in premiums, which I will get back one way or the other as well as purchasing a refrigerator and half a dryer.

AHS claims the service tech sent out called in the job as being from poorly maintained and out of order for some time (A whole 3 days!). Called company to get a second opinion after I told them that the first opinion was false.

The second tech said that these units just sometimes fail and it was not due to poor maintenace. BUT AHS WILL NOT COVER IT SAYING THEY ARE GOING WITH THE FIRST TECH,S ASSESSMENT! I have contacted 20-20 who will hopefully be doing a story on these sham companies that promise warranties but just actually take your money and nothing else! Also I am looking into legal action against American Home Shield, they need to be stopped and put out ob business!

30+year Air Conditioning Unit; A/C Unit trips 60 amp breaker during high heat days. I purchased my current home in 1998, the home was built in 1979. It came with AHS Home Warranty during the purchase. I elected to retain it through the years (10+) mainly because of the age of the A/C Unit. Last summer(2007) while in Iraq, my wife called and stated the A/C Unit was not working. She called AHS and they stated the circuit breaker needed to be replaced after a technican had completed their inspection.

It was later recommended by an electrical technican to install an electrical quick disconnect also. Working as a Mechanical Engineer in the Navy and having a background in Facilities Management after retirement, I new this made sense. I authorized the repairs at a cost to me of $400.00 +.

7/25/2008 The same problem has came back, a 60 amp breaker is tripping on high heat days. I called AHS and requested service. The following day an A/C Technican showed up and stated that the A/C condenser was dirty and can make a compressor over amp and cause damage to a compressor windings. AHS had a second company provide a second opinion and they stated Condenser and coils are 30+ years old. The evaporator coil was dirty. A/C Unit tripping beaker due to old age and dirty coils. Recommended Replacing Unit. AHS denied claim, stating improper maintenance of A/C Unit, thus causing the compressor to fail. AHS further stated they would not cover the A/C Unit under warranty, until I replaced the compressor at my cost.

I have spent approximately $450.00 a year for 10 years, totaling $4,500.00. If I would have put the money in the bank and let it draw interest...I would have had enough to purchase a New A/C Unit with money to spare. Instead I am stuck with a 30+ year A/C Unit that as qouted by AHS in their contract has Become inoperative due to normal wear and tear. AHS states they will not replace the A/C Unit, due to lack of maintenance.

will install a New A/C Unit at my cost. I will not renew AHS contract. Lesson Learned; Use the money you would spend on AHS and have your A/C Unit serviced annually. Take what is left over and save it, for replacement.

I noticed the baseboard moulding in my living room was pulling away from the wall...upon further inspection I could see that the dry-wall was also wet behind the couch and the remaining length of wall including a portion of the front wall. so I called AHS about my new home warranty contract. AHS contacts 2 plumbers for the same claim (which I am unaware of). 3 days later I get a call from plumber #1, he is on the road and will arrive in a couple of hours.

about an hour later I receive a call from plumber #2, who I assume is plumber #1. he is lost and needs directions. a short time later he arrives and he seems to be in an extreme hurry. he contacts AHS and they begin arguing about who was supposed to be here doing this job. so he decides first come first serve and begins ripping out dry-wall. he locates the leak, fixes it, charges me a 75.00 co-pay and runs out the door (I am not kidding when I say runs). I am left with a huge hole in the wall and the mouldings broken up lying on the floor. He calls me up about 5 hours later and tells me that AHS will not cover any other work on this job !

After another 2 days of arguing with AHS they send a dry-wall man over, and according to him, he was told to only do 100.00 worth of work. He stood there looking at all this wet and damaged dry-wall and shook his head. The job needed to be done right and all the wet dry-wall needed to be removed due to possible mold issues. He called AHS back again and was instructed to slap a 16 inch piece of dry-wall over the hole and leave! I instructed him to go and I would try to do it myself.

AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED AHS SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN AND ANY ONE WITH A POLICY SHOULD BE COMPENSATED. THIS IS CRIMINAL AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS?

I had another contractor look at the damage and they gave me an estimate of around 1800.00. I have photographed it and am trying to fix it myself!

Last night at about 11:00, my A/C went out. I immediately called AHS for their 24/7 service request and did the automated thing requesting service. It's supposed to be 105 degrees here today and I am also supposed to leave town this afternoon for a trip I have had planned for MONTHS. So, when I did not hear from the service company by 9:00 a.m., I called them. She said they were booked all day and the earliest they could get here would be tomorrow.

I told her I understood and appreciated that, but I couldn't wait that long. I called AHS and tried to either get the service upgraded to emergency or get an alternate contractor from their list that could get out here today. They refused to upgrade it (saying that even the temperature would not allow an upgrade) and would not let me have an alternate contractor because the contractor was within guidelines to come out tomorrow.

They absolutely refused to help me in any way and would not let me speak to supervisor, claiming that they were supervisors. I said that was fine, I understood they were doing what they could, but the answer was unacceptable and I needed to speak with someone else who was a manager over them. They still refused, telling me that the managers can't take incoming calls, they can only make outgoing calls. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?

I had Grayson Collin Appliance company come out to fix my GE dryer. They were send out by American home shield insurance company. The first time they came out was last week of December. The technician was very unprofessional and have very little knowledge about the work. First thing he said upon his 30 second exam, that the dryer duct was clogged and there was nothing wrong with the washer. He was trying an easy way of this. I told him that the dryer duct was cleaned twice prior to his arrival, i also showed him receipt for duct cleaning. Upon asking questions he struggled to tell me what was wrong with the washer.

Upon further investigation, he told me that the thermal sensor was bad and he needed to change the felts on the washer. He came back again and told us he already changed those items. Few weeks later we called this company for the same initial problem and another technician came out who also told us the dryer duct was clogged and there is nothing wrong with the dryer. Seems like "Clogged Dryer duct" is every tech's way of getting out by not fixing it. Again i showed him the paperwork and told him the Dryer ducts were cleaned. He asses the dryer and told me he needs to replace the thermostat, the thermal sensing unit and felt pads. To my surprise i told him the tech from the same company had already changed it on his last visit.

He once again stated that there was no work done previously on that dryer. He came back a week later and changed those parts he mentioned to me and this time i asked him to leave me the old pasts for my verification. I called back again today and told him that the dryer was still not heating and that he needs to come asses it again. They told me that they have closed the case and that i need to contact American Home shield. When i called American home shield they said that the tech had reported that there was no mechanical failure to the dryer that that the dryer was heating properly. He also reported that " Customer was using heavy cloths with metal buckle in the dryer that was making it not heat and get stuck"

When he came to test out the heater, i had 2 towels, 3 underwear and 1 white stripe shirt. My white stripe shirt got stuck to the dryer because it has buttons on it. Now they are not willing to further fix my dryer. This is just an understatement of the problems. I have not mentioned about their staff and scheduling issues. The tech tells you he will be there between 1-3 and shows up at 11:30. another time told me he will be there between 2-4 shows up at 4:30! This is on a weekday, so i have to take a day off for him to come fix my dryer. I eventually had to purchase a new Dryer and waisted 500 on insurance company.

Purchased American Home Shield appliance protection policy, but have had very bad luck with service. We have had repeated problems with our central A/C. In our experience, AHS uses less than reputable service companies who only put a bandaid on the system - not actually repair it, thus we are forced to call them back out, resulting in another $55 service call. We have had multiple situations where AHS has sent out a service request only to have no one show up.

We call and seek another company and while AHS does comply, AHS gives these companies 4 hours to respond. Today, it is 104 degrees and this is what has happened. Each time someone fails to respond, we have to seek another company and another 4 hour window begins. My husband's office is in our home and the heat is unbearable.

We were forced to stay in a hotel because by the time AHS got someone to our home, the repairman could not get the needed part due to the time of day. AHS won't reimburse for the cost of the hotel. My husband had to cancel business appointments to stay at home in case someone showed up.

They informed AHS of the problem. They called same company again to our house and they did nothing. Now they are trying milk us out of more money by saying their repairs are not covered. The heat index here is over a 100 and I am asthmatic. They do not care.

Placed a service call on Monday June 23. Company assigned arrived on Wed. 25th and disabled AC unit. Collected service charge of $55 but did not repair. Had referred back to AHS that he was unable to service unit. Second company assigned unable to service also. Third company made parts assesment, ordered and attempted install on Monday 6-30. Unit deemed unusable and replacement ordered through AHS. Incorrect unit shipped to vendor on 7-2, and correct item was advised would not be on hand until 7-7.

With my newborn baby in my home already disrupted/displaced for over 7 days, I begged for an alternative solution, but was dismissed by AHS. Asked for possibilities from vendor and they had a unit in the area that could be installed prior to July 4th weekend if paid up front. Rather than subject my son/wife to any lengthier delays, I opted for the vendor option and reimbursement from AHS. Now they are offering only half of the actual cost incurred, not including mental/physical stress.

I called to question about service to my central air unit and was informed that a supervisor was available upon my request. I was told that a supervisor will contact me back within 48 hours and that never happened. The issue is that I have had someone come out and put Freon in my air conditioning unit on several occasions and then reported that there is no leak found. There have to be a leak if they are adding Freon. I am also aware that it is against the law to add Freon to a unit if there is a possible leak. The second issue relates to plumbing.

When I called out to Service Connection to set up an appointment, I guess I was asking too many questions and the representative on the line hung up on me. I then had to call American Home Shield and have them call on my behalf. I had Service Connection come out on 5 different times (6/23, 7/3, 7/12, 7/14 and 7/17/08) to fix the same plumbing issue. Over the course of him coming out the issue became worse. The last time he came out I asked him; "Now what!!" He left and stated that he was stumped and stated that he will be contacting his office. I never received a call from the boss nor the office.

Another plumbing company came out and completed the repairs properly. I purchased a part from one of the local plumbing shops thinking that would make a difference in getting the job done. I was told by the plumber not to call the company anymore because he was coming out on his own time. I also called American Home Shield and requested for someone different to come out to the home and was told that this request would be honored and it was not. This whole ordeal was unacceptable.

I requested service on my Thermidor stainless dbl oven in April. After a month of unreturned phone calls from their Tech, I asked that my money be returned and I'ld take care of the problem myself. I was refused. I was told to find my own technician, have the oven repaired at my expense and they would reimburse me. I refused to do this. Finally their tech did come, I paid the $60 service fee, and he said the oven could not be fixed.

After my MANY phone calls to AHS, AHS called and said they could give me $200 towards a new oven or have the needed control rebuilt but it would take 6 more weeks. I said to rebuild it as what good is $200 towards a new oven? Again, the tech did not call or come. Finally, AHS offered to replace my oven with a GE black, bottom of the line (value $700) oven. I told them their warantee says similar features. The GE was in no way comparable. They requested proof of the features on my oven, which I supplied.

After I complained to the BBB, their next offer was for a GE oven 3 wider than my existing built-in, again in black and w/out the same features. I researched and found a Kitchen Aid that I would accept. They said they would allow $1000 towards a new oven but I had to buy the oven, have it installed, supply proof and in time I would be reimbursed $1000. I don't have the money to do this so I am stuck. They will NOT return my phone calls.

Again, I requested that they return my cost of the insurance and the service fee but they are refusing. I have not had a functioning oven since mi-April!

I have had my protection plan for close to one year. I have attempted to utilize the protection plan in respect to 3 appliances and 2 plumbing problems. Each time the service tech denies the claim.

Finally, my pipes to my pool sprung a leak and my spa heater quit working. The Pool Company came out and stated that because my pop-ups to my pool were not working, this caused an increased pressure in the pipes thereby creating a leak at the sensor unit for my chlorine goldline system. The water leak leaked onto my spa heater and short circuited the the board and also casued the blower fan to break. He said it was not covered due to the trace back to the pop-ups.

Well I explained that I knew a little about pools. I also told him that I had replace the gears for the pop-ups less than 3 months ago and all my pop-ups for working just fine. In my opinion, the pool is over 8 years old and the leak was caused by age and sun.

I have now called my pool company out who in fact verified that the pop-ups were working just fine and that the leak was caused simply by age and break-down. The spa is also very old and I told the worker that the service lite had been coming on recently. I have disputed their findings and now have a second pool company called Golden Pool to come out on Wednesday.

Its really not the money, its simply the stark reality that this protection company is a scam. They never ever cover anything that breaks. I paid extra because when I bought the house, I knew things were 8-10 years old and I wanted to have things fixed that broke. I have yet to have any item that needs repair fixed by this Company. I plan on taking this to all of the regulatory agencies and I have documented everything in writing and by pictures.

I have now spent over 5 thousand dollars fixing things that this company has refused to repair.

I bought home warranty A.H.S to repair bad or malfunctioning items in my house. In March 2008, I called American Home Shield to let them know that my outdoor SPA was not heating. American Home Shield sent their contractor to my house on two occasions without the job getting done. I have made repeated phone calls to American Home Shield to complain that the SPA have not been fixed.

The most annoying practice by the Insurance company is that the employees would not give their names. However, on 7/18/2008, I was lucky to get Ms. Danielle on the phone who gave me her first name but when I asked her to give her last name, she transferred me to her supervisor's voice mail.

The economic damage is that I was sold an insurance policy by a company who refused to render services that I paid for.

We have had AHS since 2000 and paid our annual fees. In April we experienced problems with our heating and air conditioning system. We turned in a claim. A service man came out and told us the unit was old and needed replaced. Later this same service company contacted us and told us that AHS had agreed to pay for the compressor, $600. He then quoted a price of $2,600 to replace the unit. He said if I would have this done before Friday he would do the work for $2,300.

This sounded suspicious, and we contacted two other H&A companies. We were given quotes much less and had the AC unit replaced for $1,500. AHS denied the claim stating the unit had not been properly maintained. The unit was 21 years old and had been maintained by our son. He maintained H&A units for a chain of apartment complexes.

The servicemen that looked at this unit all stated it had been well maintained, that is why it had lasted so long. Knowing the unit was old I would accept the $600. However AHS stated they never agreed with their serviceman to pay $600. AHS has refused to pay any part of this expense even after being told that three techincians would testify that the unit had been properly and well maintained.

After the claim was denied we stopped paying any fees to AHS. We have now been turned over to a collection agency who is attempting to collect $320. When contacted about this AHS advised this is computer generated and they can't stop it. This morning we received a call from a appliance company saying they had been contacted by AHS to repair our refrigorator. We have not turned in any claim since our claim has been denied in April. We replaced our refrigorator months ago since three attempts by AHS's service company had failed to fix the problem. We feel we are being harassed by AHS for our attempts to get them to uphold their contract.

We have been out $1,500 and have been turned over the a collection agency for non payment of $320, which we stopped after our claim had been denie. We are worried that our credit will be damaged. We feel we are being harassed by AHS.

We bought our house in April of 2007. The house was a foreclosure, but I could see its potential despite its obvious neglect. We moved into the house at the end of April. In May, it starts getting hot in West Texas, so we started to use the air conditioning. After a couple of weeks, it was not working. I called AHS for repair. The service person came out the next day, very pleasant. He said the problem was due to improper maintainance, and AHS would not cover the repairs. I had to pay him $200 for the repairs and then an extra $50 for service fee. $50 I wouldn't have had to pay if I had just called him out myself.

When it came time to renew my contract, I sent in the first payment to renew. I then started researching AHS, and found that others had been having problems with them as well. I decided to cancel my policy. I sent an email with no response (I sent an email earlier about sending them a payment, and got immediate response, imagine that). I thought it was taken care of. I received a notice in the mail later that I needed to pay the balance within 30 days or I would be turned over to collections.I called and spoke to a representative, and he said it had already been sent to the cancellation department. I asked him about the notice about collection, and he said not to worry about because I had already been sent to 'cancellations'.

I received a letter in the mail 2 days ago from a collection agency. I called AHS, furious. After talking to 3 or 4 people, I think I have handled the situation. I am writing a letter to the collection agency, hoping it is not in vain.

We have AHS coverage since we purchased this home and every time we call for any complaint we were serviced promptly, even though some times the quality of service from AHS contractors is very poor. Once we had problem with the plumber. At present I have problem with the Air Conditioner and the contractor who attended the service call was BreezeHAVC. The first service request was placed in the night of Sunday 8th June 2008. And the contractor never bothered to contact on his own,as it should be, however I obtained the Phone # from AHS and contacted him to schedule the service call at me for after 4pm Monday 6/09/08. Surprisingly, he never turned up as scheduled for 4 pm, nor even bothered to call me to inform his inability to come. Since no one was available on Tuesday 06-10-08, as we informed him he turned on Wednesday 06-11-2008 and found the partial home was not having the power due to a strong wind/storm previous night.

So, he came again on Thursday June 12th and found cooling gas was leaked and the motor was not working after he made some sparking sound from the outside unit while testing it. He came again on Friday to change the Motor and charged the unit with gas and never bothered to check the attic unit for any leak, even though I told him that the same problem was there in the last year too. Unfortunately the cooling stoped the next day. So we informed the AHS and in turn AHS send him. Meanwhile I noticed the lousy work he had on the previous day (the condensor for the new Motor was hanging on the grill/ net of the outside Unit. On his next visit he agreed to assemble the parts in the proper way on my insistence. after doing all work in the outside unit he went up in the attic (the first time during this compalint). at this time he found heavy leak on the attic unit and told that it needs replacement.

For the same, need access to replace the unit from the attic and denied to get in touch with any general contractor to make opening to replace the heavy unit from the attic, eventhough I requested him as usually all the Air Conditioner contractors have(needed) such contact to do their work every time this kind of problems. But he insisted to make our own arrangements to make access.Because of his delays and irresposibile attitude I requested any other contractor, which AHS refused to do so. AHS was offering cash out, of $1000.00 just the cost of the unit( no labor or any other payments they make to their regular contractor). It took ten days for him to submit the report to AHS, which inturn delayed several days (Actualy they are Harrassing us by this delay to repair an Air Conditioner for 40 days in the Summer Season, Which causing lot of incovenience (unexplainable)to me and my family) of unusual delays. there are several days passed with several excuses without any final result. Since the June was over and the temperature was going up, it is very difficult to live without air conditioner; I was repeatedly in touch with AHS.

Due to the Contractors negligence and irresponsibility till date AHS representatives are not able to give a definite answer about when the A.C. is going to be repaired. I feel that the Contractor is purposely harassing us with this delays and excuses, in turn AHS too. I wonder, is this the Home warranty AHS providing to the Customers all over United States? (From June 08th till July 16th the Air Conditioner is neither repaired nor have any sure date. Also surprising is after listening to all this from the customer, AHS still want this contractor to play around to spoil the reputation of AHS (I wonder whether do they have any such.) Why are They still relaying on this contractor to get the job done? In the Summer time an air conditioner repair is pending for more than 40 days and still AHS is depending on such an irresponsible contractor.

If anyone attending to my grievances please think of you in this situation without an air conditioner for more than 40 days in the peak summer. Is there any one there to listen? Please send some other contractor, so that BreezHVAC do not create any further problems for us or even any major lose to us( I fear from this person). Please Help Us, We have small kids at home too. Already 40 days without air conditioner. Please help us.

On Saturday 07/12/08 I called AHS to infrom the openning is going to be done on Monday 07/14/08. Ahs told me to inform BreezeHVAC, so, I called and talked to Borris. He in turn told me to come and se the access is good for his to do the work. Unfortunately this time too he never bogthered to call. As I have hired a carpenter to do an openning( a permenent one) who made an openning on Monday 07/14/08 and waiting for Big guy the Ahs Contactor BreezeHVAC till 16th( the time of this.

Yesterday after several hours with the AHS persons they told me after contacting contractor they told me he will be at my home on 07/16/2008. Back to the matter-Unfortunately till 2:00 pm neither Contractor nor AHS contacted me. So, as I am the person in need, I contacted AHS and been with them for about 1hr. 30min. and told that the Same contractor is going to come today by evening. At around 4:30pm I called the Parental company of AHS inturn they transfered to AHS, has to hear the same song. And may be after the call from AHS the contractor BreezeHVAC called me and he is coming to my home but canot give any time. IS there any one can help me this work done before the summer over? Still have the ceeling openned, waiting for the AHS Contractor.

I talk to a different person each time and the previous rep. does not document the system, or tell you they will contact Aaron plumbing who is never available and never returns the call to AHS. We recently purchased a home and paid for American Home Shield's home warranty. When our air conditioning unit stopped working we called for repair. I was told when I signed the contract and once again when an air conditioning professional came to our house that as long as I properly maintained the unit using specific steps such as cleaning the coils and replacing the filters once a month that our unit would be covered.

When the unit stopped working the repairman that was sent told us that we had done everything we were supposed to but the previous owners probably did not care for the unit properly. Therefore the compressor stopped working and we would be responsible for the full $1,700 because our warranty refused to cover.

We have paid over $800 for a warranty that does not cover the sole purpose of buying the warranty as well as paying $1,700 for the repair.

Tonight I am writing as a frustrated consumer sitting in what feels like 90 degree heat watching water poor through my ceiling from the A/C unit above it. I am praying that I can find someway to make my children comfortable through the night and hoping my two month old does not have to be rushed to a local emergency room due to heat exhaustion.

My experience with American Home Shield began oh last summer when a very uneducated contractor came to my home and decided that pieces of our outside A/C unit needed to be replaced without ever looking at the attic unit. So we were ok with that until AHS called and told us that the cost of upgrades and disposal would be $250.00 which was a great surprise to us because the man that sold us our contract quickly explained that they did not cover upgrades but never explained the costly amounts that they would be. When I asked AHS what ugrades they were doing they simply replied "wiring".

So my husband and I put off the repair until Febuary of 2007 when J&L heating and air came back to our home and performed the upgrade. We then assumed our problem was solved but we were wrong the man that came out did not charge the compressor supposedly so third time out the compressor was charged then while he was out he decided we needed the fan replaced so that was replaced. So the unit should be cooling now right. WRONG! The unit was barely blowing any cold air so another call to AHS the same company returned he finally crawled into the attic and "fixed the leak" and this time the A/C was cooling for three days when I walked into my daughters room and notice my ceiling sagging, water pooring onto my carpet and this day just happened to be Memorial Day and AHS would not get anyone to come out and service my unit although they had escalated my status to an emergency due to my infant.

So the day after Memorial Day TKO Air Conditioning and Plumbing came out to my house and "Cleared the clog" they said was causing the problem and they said the A/C was fixed. We had cool air for about a month until last Thursday I heard a dripping noise coming from my daughters room I wakjed in and the ceiling was leaking again. So TKO plumbing and AIR returned and said that the Coils need to be replaced and that will fix the problem however they didnt clear the pan or the lines so I still had no air because everytime I turned it on Water would pour from the ceiling.

So today they returned to my home and installed new coils. Problem supposedly fixed. Wrong again! I walked into my daughters room less than ten hours after the problem was supposedly fixed and her floor is soaked the my ceiling is hanging about to completely fall through. Seeing as this is a direct result from contractor work my insurance company is not liable and it is currently 90 degrees on my thermostat but only because that is as high as it goes. I called AHS and was escalated to a supervisor named Rosalinde who was supposed to take care of my problem. While I was explaining my issue she started talking to someone else in the room and sounded like she was eating something while she was on the phone with me. She then told me that they had two hours to get back to me with someone who would be out to fix my A/C. They never called!

I called them at 9:00 and they said yes that TKO had responded and would be out in the morning. That does nothing for my situation tonight. My husband and I have spent countless hours taking off of work, relocating our children for nights and even taking turns sitting in the car letting the air blow on my children so they wouldn't over heat. Is this what you call taking the hassle out of home repairs? I need to know how anyone has gotten reimbursed for there horrible work since they supposedly have a satisfaction gntee AHS IS A NIGHTMARE WITH SHOTTY CONTRACTORS

I would still have to pay the $60 service call fee to AHS and an additional charge to Will fix it for the repair. However when I spoke with the rep during the initial service call the lady said my leaky faucet would be covered.

today I spoke with 2 people before I finally asked to speak with a supervisor. I explained my situation and I was told that I made the service request on line and the web doesn't indicate coverage or not. I did actually speak with a person and for them to say that made me feel like they were calling me a liar. I was on the phone for about one hour but finally AHS agreed to waive the service fee. bottom line: I won't renew my contract after reading all the AHS complaints and after the experience I had today - however I am happy they waived the service fee, but I had to ask for it.

Well, it seems that we have fallen victim to the trap at AHS. Our A/C unit is holding on by a thread, and the summer heat is just going to get hotter! A couple of weeks ago, our A/C unit started giving out, and we have been constantly having to go out and hit the reset button; especially with temperatures over 95 degrees. We called AHS to come to the rescue. AHS sent their preferred contractor, Dream Team Construction, which is located out of Northridge, CA.

Dream Team showed up, evaluated the unit, and decided that it would be necessary to replace. The unit is more than 21 years old, and it is more than likely on its last leg. Dream Team submitted a claim to AHS, and AHS let us know that the claim was approved and that our out of pocket cost was going to be $445. Dream Team faxed us an estimate for almost $1,395 to do the job. We called Dream Team to explain the increase. They said they would call us back, but never did. We called AHS, who said they wanted to know why these charges increased, and they said that Dream Team was not communicating with them either. I asked AHS to switch the contractor, but they said they could not.

We called Dream Team at least 6 times trying to get this clarified, but they refused to reciprocate any communication. Even though AHS did not get any communication either, they proudly stuck by this contractor that in actuality was nothing but a nightmare. My wife finally got through to Dream Team, and they had no apologies, accountability, or explanation for this behavior. Shame on them and shame on AHS for not backing up their customer!

So far, we are not out yet, but we are having to scramble with finding someone to fix this. We paid AHS for the year, which was considered into the budget for this sort of thing. Not sure why I am paying AHS if in the end all I am doing is paying it out of my pocket anyway.

We have had a warranty with American Home Shield for quite some time. In April we noticed our ice cream and frozen foods in the freezer were not staying frozen. We called for AHS service. American Home Shield sent someone to look at our freezer. Per our contract with AHS we paid $55 to the contractor and he told us our defrost timer was out. He called AHS and they agreed to pay to replace this.

Well, after a very busy month our freezer was still not freezing but we were unable to get AHS called to send someone back out within our 30 day guarantee period. So, we called for service again. Paying another $55 service call and a contractor come out. He told us that our coils were dirty and needed to be cleaned. This would cost an additional $35 but I agreed to pay. AHS would not cover this.

After the coils were cleaned our freezer was still not freezing. So, we once again called AHS to send someone out. They sent another contractor out who told us that our fan was out. He stated he would order a fan and call us when it came in. We had an appt. between 11 and 1 when the fan was finally in. On the day of the appt. at 3:30 we finally called AHS and asked where the contractor was. AHS called and had the contractor call me. He stated that he did not know he was suppose to replace the fan even though they had called an set the appt. to put the new fan in. He said he would be here later that night. He would have to look at the freezer and let me know if the fan was really what was wrong.

He finally showed up about 8:30 that evening so I had been waiting for 7.5 hours. He said that it was not the fan. He said that what we actually needed was a coil. He said that he would be back the next day to put in a coil. He did not come. So, the next day I called and scheduled the company to come again. They were scheduled for a Thursday. From 1:30-3:30. No one came. By 7:30 that day I finally gave up.

I called AHS and they said they would send a different contractor to come out. I recieved a call on a friday from a contractor. He asked me what was wrong with my freezer. I told him that I had been told that the coil needed to be replaced. He said he would come out but if it needed a coil he didn't do those. So, once again I am still with out a working freezer. This would put us at 6/27/08. The first contractor was out on 4/22. Not to mention the countless hours I have spent on the phone thus far with AHS, contractors and waiting in my home for someone to come service the freezer.

But, my story does not end there. So, I had another appt. for someone to come out to look at my freezer. He comes. He is late but he comes. He says that we need a new compressor. This is on Thursday, July 3rd. He will contact AHS immediately and let them know. He is not sure if they will replace the freezer or fix it. He will let us know. So, on Thursday evening I still have not heard from AHS or the contractor. I wait till Saturday July 5th and give them a call. They have not heard from the contractor as to what is wrong. So, they place a call. He is not available to talk with them. He will have to call back and they will call me. 5:OO pm.

I have not heard from anyone. So, I call. The contractor has called and they will fix the compressor. I ask when this will happen. AHS does not know. They say to call the contractor. So, I do. He says he will order one and let me know when it is in. I ask him when this will be. He said probably wed. And then rudely asks me if I have a compressor? I obviously do not since I am not a repair man or I would have fixed it myself back in April. So, as of today July 5th I am still with out a freezer and have only a promise from yet another unprofessional contractor that he will come out on Wednesday morning to replace my compressor in my freezer.

I spent countless hours on the phone with AHS. Waiting for contractos and still do not have a working freezer. Some of my food has spoiled, I missed events with my kids to stay home and wait on contactors that did not show up. I am very angry and would like to cancel my AHS service but can not until this problem is resolved.

We have had a plumbing problem since we moved in. The upstairs toilets would get clogged and it would leak into our pantry and sometimes kitchen. It required over nine visits from 3 companies, each time of course, we were charged the sixty dollar service fee. The plumbers used short term fixes (closed auger and hydrojet) to accomplish a short term resoultion to the problem. The pipes would then clog again approximately 30 -60 days later (every time!).

We finally had an honest plumber who came in today. He told us they (a previous AHS plumber) had installed the cheapest toilets and that we needed new toilets that would have a good flush (with force behind it, not simply relying on gravity). We also needed raised phlanges with the tile (which we had previously paid on our own dime $375 to a prior AHS plumber!).

He then contacted AHS and began to tell them what the problem was. When the AHS rep realized that he was speaking in to them in front of my wife (every other plumber would leave the house when calling AHS for authorization), they told him to leave and they were not approving anything at that point.

I spoke to over 4 different representatives from AHS and many supervisors. This is where the last supervisor left it, "Well, I really don't know what the problem is. You'll need to have Ray (the owner of the company our honest plumber works for), come out there and look at it and then get back to me".

I'm a soldier in the Army. I lost half a day dealing with AHS and have lost hundreds of dollars.

I've been an AHS customer for 12 years. I have not abused the system and have USUALLY had good service (sometimes after several calls and begging for supervisory assistance which is 99.9% refused).

This time in asking for service on my pool filter it's been a flat NO. My primary pool technician (12 yrs of service), and the AHS contractor who works for AHS have called and basically pleaded with AHS that the equipment is faulty, is so old that no replacement parts are available to service, they would not be surprised if the metal filter tank blew up and caused great damage, etc. etc. etc. I'm at wits end at what to do.

I use the policy premium as the price I pay for not having a man around the house (big smile). Also, I live in a small town, and they will only use one technician to handle all the services--can't get a second opinion. The other pool companies in town have refused to do business w/AHS.

We live in a newer home, approximately 5 years old. Our builder-installed central AC had a two-year warranty, so last year, I thought I'd better purchase a warranty from American Home Shield. I used them at a previous home I owned and know how they operate in trying to deny claims, but felt it was worth the risk in order to save some money in the event of a major repair. I have maintained the central AC system with regular checkups and filter renewal. The last checkup, in which freon levels were checked, was approximately 2 weeks before the AC stopped working as we started getting into really hot weather.

Our AC stopped producing cold air on a Sunday afternoon. I called in a claim. When the assigned contractor failed to call me the next morning, I called them. No answer. I called American Home Shield, who in turn called them while I was waiting. AHS said the contractor was busy, but would call me later that day (during triple digit outside temperatures). The contractor, Avalanche Machine of San Diego, didn't call, so I called them directly. This time, I got an answer and they said the soonest they could get someone out would be in two days.

I called back AHS and asked if they could transfer the call to a different vendor and they said no. Two days of blistering heat later, a cranky Russian immigrant shows up, and in broken English starts setting up to deny the claim by saying that my previous tune-up technician "failed to clean the condenser coils (clean, by the way), with a special chemical". He checked the freon, said it was low and refilled. I told him that the levels were fine two weeks earlier, but he just shrugged and left without performing any further testing, satisfied that cool air was now blowing from the registers.

After 5 hours and barely a two degree temperature drop inside the house (it was actually cooler outside than it ever got inside), I called back requesting them to come back out. Another two days of intense heat goes by, and the same Russian shows up. He checks the coolant levels, says that there is a massive leak, then gets on the phone with the AHS adjuster and gets into a ******* match with them. The rep told him to find where the leak was coming from. "Who is going to pay for this test?", the Russian demands. After AHS said that they'd pay, he reluctantly conducted the test, determined that the compressor/condensor unit needed replacement just as he had surmised and received authorization from AHS for a new unit. There was no way for them to deny the claim. The tech told me that there would be "non-recoverable costs" that I would be responsible for, totalling maybe $250-$300.

However, Avalanche Machine took days to get this figure into AHS and only after I called and raised hell after the Avalanche rep told me they would need $960 from me, PAID IN ADVANCE with my credit card over the phone, before they would scheduule the installation date to put in the new unit. Since we are experiencing a massive heat wave, and the following week had the 4th of July holiday was coming up 8 days later, I asked them to please schedule my installation for the day after the new condensor arrived, early the next week, because I knew that they were slow to respond to service requests and thought that if I booked the appointment far enough in advance, I could get it installed before the holiday. Avalanche refused, stating that it was against their policy to schedule the installation before the replacement condensor arrived, even though they knew the day it was arriving.

I left a message for the owner, a different Russian, asking him to please schedule the installation, citing concerns about the short week ahead and because my wife is menopausal, suffering from hot flashes, and I was trying to get the new unit installed before the long holiday weekend. He never returned my call. Well, the condensor arrived a day earlier than expected, so I called the schedule the installation. They won't put it in until after the holiday, more than two weeks after the AC went out, even though they had 3 business days to get it done before the long weekend. AHS would do nothing to assist. We cannot sleep at night and have been miserable and even feeling ill at times from the intense heat.

AHS should not use contractors that cannot handle the work load. Additionally, this contractor now wants $670 for the non-coverable costs (down from the original $960 they demanded), including $250 for an "electrical upgrade to meet code" and $120 for a pad for the condensor, which we already have. There have been no changes in our codes since the house was built, except that the SEER rating must now be 13. These added charges are just to pad the contractor's profit margin.

I refused to pay a nickel of this $670 in advance, however, and the dispatcher said that I'd have to pay the installer before they commence any work. I intend to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the contractor's license board and the California Department of Consumer Affairs as soon as the installation is complete and we have cool air again. For now, they have me over a barrel, which is just how they like it.

In July 2004, an a/c repair contractor was dispatched by AHS to my home, to repair my a/c unit. I voiced concerns to AHS then about the poor quality of work performed by this contractor. The Arkansas Dept. of Health, Mr. Mickey English, HVAC Specialist, was summoned to my home. Mr. English determined the unit was not repaired to code. After numerous requests, American Home Shield and/or the contractor never returned to complete this 2004 repair. I cancelled contract after this incident.

Later, AHS Sales Marketing contacted me about improved customer service and better coverage on home repairs. I decided to give AHS the benefit of doubt; I took out a new contract. I was assigned two contract numbers. I took out this policy because I am a disabled veteran. I am unable to perform these repairs myself. I requested a service call from AHS on June 29th, 2008. Under dispatch #, the contractor came to the house, inspected and perforated the duct work by about 2 feet. There is currently a 10 ft section of duct work detached from the foundation, laying on the ground, and corroded. This is the area the previous questionable contractor had worked on in July 2004; when they replaced the coils. The contractors actions further compromised the integrity of my sealed a/c duct; subjecting my family to health hazards due to air borne contaminants. The contractor stated it will be at least a couple of weeks before I could return.

Based on a poor referral from the contractor, yet another unqualified contractor, AHS has denied this claim. I am requesting that my contract be cancelled effective immediately. If AHS had sent a representative to the home in 2004, this poor repair job could have been detected; preventing this corrosive damage. I put a stop payment on the check I issued the contractor. Based on poor customer relations, I think American Home Shield is obligated for this payment of $55.00. Ill have a reputable company come to perform the damage repairs. I can't understand why the Arkansas State Attorney Generals office doesn't intevene to protect its residents from this scam. California has filed a class action lawsuit.

My family is subjected to a health hazards due to air borne contaminants being pushed through the damaged duct work. My 6 year old son has to take weekly allegy shots, and doesn't need this type of exposure.

In July 2004, I submitted a claim for a/c service from AHS. It was determined later by an Arkansas Dept. of Health enforcement code Officer that the unit was not repaired to code standards. After numerous attempts to have AHS arbitrate on my behalf, I've yet to hear back from AHS or the sub-standard Contractor. I don't have satisfaction guaranteed or my money back as promised by AHS.

As a disabled veteran, I am unable to physically perform these repairs. Reluctantly, I was willing to give AHS a second chance and the benefit of doubt. Afterall, the AHS sales pitch was we have expanded our coverage and improved our service. Being vulnerable, I renewed my contract with them a second time. July 2008, I again requested a/c and was sent yet another substandard contractor to assessment to my a/c unit. During the 2004 failed attempted to repair my unit, the duct work as left unsecured and laying on the ground under my house. The duct work has since corroded. During the visit, the new contractor perforated the duct work, leaving a two foot gap. Refusing to perform temporary repairs, he left saying it would be at least two weeks before he could return to perform the final repairs.

Later that evening, I was notified by AHS the claim was denied. They reason stated was "The duct work wasn't properly installed". I reminded them this defect was a result of the poor quality of work I received from their contractor in 2004. If AHS had sent a representative to my house in 2004, to validate my claims, the corroded duct work would not exist under my house today.

I am having problems finding another A/C company willing to perform the repairs.

I received a brochure for American Home Shield (AHS) through my mortgage company. The brochure got my attention because it promised homeowner's insurance coverage for all appliances regardless of age, make or model. My furnace and central a/c units are original to the 30-year-old house, so I was intrigued by a company that promised to cover appliances and units of that age.

I phoned the AHS representative and specifically emphasized to them that while the furnace/air-conditioner were both functioning well, they were old and could need servicing at any time. The representative assured me that this was no problem and that the age of the units was not an issue. I enrolled in their plan and paid the first monthly premium.

Shortly after enrollment, my a/c compresser began to make odd noises and I phoned AHS to ask for a service call. There was no indication that there might be a problem with coverage, and they assigned a local a/c company to make the call. The serviceman arrived on time and was hugely informative, telling me that the compressor was dirty, a condition that had lead to excess wear on the motor, which he recommended be replaced. He indicated that he would have to phone AHS to gain approval to do the work, under their warranty. He said, however, that I should not be surprised if they turn you down because your policy is so new.

Though the policy states that a/c units are not covered for the first 30 days of the policy, I was not told this when I had my lenghty initiatl discussion with the representative, nor during the call to request service. In fact, I was not aware of it when I made the service call because the policy only arrived the day after that call. At no time when I phoned AHS to ask for a service call was I asked the date of my contract, or advised that the a/c would not be covered.

I told the serviceman to make the necessary repairs to the unit, and that I would pay for it myself and deal with AHS later. When I spoke later in the day to the AHS rep, the issue of the newness of the policy was never raised. Instead, they indicated that the lack of previous cleaning/service of the unit indicated that the motor was a problem long before I bought the policy and was, therefore, considered a pre-existing condition that was not covered. Again, these limitations were never brought to my attention when I had the lenghthy first discussion with the AHS representative. Had they been, I would not have bought the policy.

The repairman cleaned the unit and replaced the motor, at my expense. Before he left, I asked him if he'd seen this sort of situation before (refusal by AHS to pay a claim), and he smiled and said, yes, all the time.

On Saturday, May 31 my AC stopped working. This is a new home for us. We had purchased a home warranty policy from AHS for $785. On Sunday, I found the paperwork for the policy and put in a request for a repair. The next afternoon, Greenway called and set up an appointment for Wednesday morning June 4. The technician came out as scheduled. He looked around for a few minutes, and then told us the problem was with the low voltage wire that connected the outside part of the unit with the furnace on the other side of the house. He said he would have to check to see if this would be covered, but that he would call us and let us know something. He collected his $55 and left. He did call back a little later and tell me that he wanted to give us a heads up, but that it would probably not be covered because it was not due to normal wear and tear. I told him this should not be the case. The policy stated that we had coverage for both AC and full electrical work on the house, so if an electrical wire was faulty, it should be covered. He said that I should call AHS and talk to them about it.

I promptly called AHS to discuss the matter. The service representative said that she did not have the diagnosis sent in from Greenway yet, so they could not discuss if the repair would be covered or not yet. I asked if they would call me when they knew something, and she said yes. I waited until late afternoon and called AHS back. The lady I talked to this time told me again that they did not have the diagnosis sent in yet, but that they would call me when it was in. I got no call, so I called them back Thursday morning June 5. This time the lady told me that they have 48 hours to send in the diagnosis, and there was nothing that they could do about it. The temperature this week in Tennessee was mid 90's and unpleasant! I got upset and asked to speak to a supervisor. The supervisor told me that she knew the manager of Greenway personally and that she would call them and have and answer for us within 2 hours, and then she would call us back.

About 4 hours later, I called them back. The service rep I got this time said there was no diagnosis sent in yet. I had to re-tell everything one more time, just to get the same run around. But they promised they would follow up on this and call me back. Of course there was no call. We called back Friday, and then waited until Monday and called AHS again. Every time they said the diagnosis was not in and that there was nothing they could do about it.

On Tuesday, June 10 I called twice more. The gentleman that I spoke with said the same thing, I asked to speak to a supervisor. He told me that all the supervisors were on other calls right now. I said I would hold, but he said that was not allowed. I said I was not going to hang up, because no one ever called me back, that they were all liars. He said he was a man of his word, and that he would personally follow up on this and call me back. Well, he did call back, but only to say that the diagnosis sent in was incomplete, and that they were trying to contact Greenway to get more information.

The next morning, Wednesday, June 11 (after 11 days with no air in 95 degree heat) I called AHS again. They said that Greenway was on the line now sending in the diagnosis, so they would know something soon. I asked could they please call me back as soon as they knew something, and they said yes. No one called so I called back 2 hours later. This time the service rep said our claim had been denied. I got upset and asked why. She said the Greenway technician stated that the low voltage wire had been cut due to someone pulling it. That is a complete lie. No one has touched that wire. How could he even know it was cut? The wire is completely covered under drywall in our basement. The rep said they have to make their decision based on what the technician says. I got very upset and asked to speak to a supervisor.

I was very angry about the situtation, and was complaining to the supervisor, when he hung up on me. I was at the end of my rope! I called back and asked to speak to the complaints department or to whoever could cancel my policy. The lady I got this time said I could not cancel my policy, because it was not within the first 30 days. I got very upset! (So if you

do not have a repair needed in the first 30 days of your policy, you will not know what crooks you are dealing with and will not know to cancel the policy) She told me that they could send someone else out for a second opinion. After asking how long that would take, they stated it could be as long a 3 to 4 weeks!

OK, I have figured this company out. They will prolong a repair so long that the customer finally breaks down and fixes it themselves.
We ended up calling our own repairman and had it fixed for $385.

I just want everyone to know that this company is a fraud! They have customer service reps that are trained to be very polite and make promises that are complete lies. They will not call you back. And they will ultimately deny your claim in the end due to some fine print reason.

I will not be renewing my policy, and I will send a formal complaint to the BBB.

PLEASE tell everyone you know NOT to get a policy from this company!

AHS stated they would replace the oven. After many calls, they wanted to replace my 41 stove with a double oven with a 30 stove with a single oven. I tried to complain but was basically told to take it or leave it. After one month without a working appliance I was contacted and they would deliver my new oven on June 24. Another call to AHS and told they would contact a service co. to come out and hook up the stove. Service person came to my home after waiting 4 hours and he was unable to hook-up because there was no convertion kit. I told him that is what I had told AHS when I called them. Now on June 27, 2008 a month after the initial contact, I contacted AHS and told them again my frustration and was told thing like this happen. I'm now over 1 month without stove/oven. I would like to cook for my family. I have waited over 10 hours added together for sservice/transport people and I still do not have a working oven. I do have an 11 gap where my old oven was. What a disaster! I should have just bought a new oven and it would have been delivered to my home the next day from our local sears, and I wouldn't have this frustration.

As above, also my time involved in calls, waiting and frustration. My new kitchen looks really incomplete with an 11 gap where the other oven use to be. I work nights as a Hospice Nurse and having to deal with this on my sleeping time is even more frustrating.

When the tech arrived after rescheduling it he quoted me the cost by phone because I was not there and I had to return home. He told me by phone that I need my water heater replaced as well and this was not in the original estimate. The original estimate went from $500.08 to over $2000.00. Then he said I had to call in a separate call to the warranty department so they can come out again and say they wouldn't cover it. The service tech stated that the coils were cleaned and that he put some freon in the unit and that everything should be ok. Well about 2-3 hours later it was not working again. So the a/c company was called back. Now it was something different and it was the same excuse for the next 3 days.

That Saturday, 6/7 the on call tech came out and said that it was a certain part and that they needed to find that part, replace it, and the a/c would work fine. Well he cut that part out of our a/c and then could not find the part anywhere. He put the request in to AHS to find the part. They were not successful after a week of looking, so now they have decided to replace the unit outside and the air handler in the attic.

We have been waiting for both of these since last week to come in. We have called AHS and the A/c company everyday except for on the weekends to see when they expect the parts to be in or what is next. Should I have to be the one calling them? I think they should call us w/ updates. Their contract states that they guarantee satisfaction. What a laugh!!

We have had repeated problems with American Homeshield. I wish I had read the similar complaints listed on this site sooner, as I have been continually excusing their poor service and accepting the runaround in an effort to be fair.

My HVAC unit is original to the house, which is 23 years old. We started having problems with it about 2 years ago, with components failing and being replaced by AHS contract companies. In fact, the companies they send out appear to be competent and friendly, but each service order takes a week or more to get someone to diagnose the problem, get AHS to verify the work order, then get parts ordered and get the technician back out to do the repair. The technician blames AHS, and AHS puts the blame back on the contractors, all the while quoting their service agreement and the associated fine print contained therein.

They alternate between two service companies who are unaware of the other's previous repairs, so each service technician is unaware that another company has replaced the compressor or other components and assumes it is the first event. AHS claims that if the technician determines that the whole system is in need of replacement, he or she may suggest it, but how would they know if I didn't tell them that the same part has been replaced within the last 6 months?

Thus far, my heat pump and associated components have failed over 7 times in 24 months and each time it is the same hassle. When I called AHS, I get a customer support operator who does her best to run interference between me and any supervisors, before begrudgingly sending my call elsewhere. We have been promised call-backs and received none, and on several occasions been treated as though we were making a bigger deal out of not having heat or cooling during the hottest or coldest possible months. I'm fed up, frankly. Anyone up for a class-action lawsuit?

Last year my A/C died during July in the desert. It took 2 weeks for AHS to replace it because they refused to use a local contractor, but insisted they had to ship one they got wholesale from their warehouse. Also, I paid extra for the new SEER 13 upgrade, but they put in an older model saying they were off the hook for the Seer 13 as long as they had the older, less efficient model in their warehouse. So I spent 2 weeks without A/C in 104 degree heat. On top of that, I am permanelty handicapped - I had to fight with them the entire two weeks to get the replacement even then. Originally, they had no idea how long it would take - up to a month.

Now, I am having electrical problems and the wiring/breakers are acting up because of the age of the home. So I went for 3 days with no A/C in 107 heat because half the house had no power. Again, it was a non-top battle with them - they were going to send a Vegas contractor out who wasn't going to come to Pahrump until they had more than one job. I was going to have to wait again at least a week with no power or A/C. It took from Tuesday to Friday for me to finally get them to ok a local contractor. Now they also won't fix the source of the problem, just a temp fix AND I had to pay the contractor for all of it up front and wait for reimbursement.

As soon as I get my check back, I'm canceling the policy and going with another company. Every technician I have ever worked with has terrible things to say about AHS. This time, the tech argued with AHS because they kept twisting his words.

The heat, the stress of all of this takes a toil on my health. Also, since this is underlying electrical issue that they refuse to fix, I am concerned that it will cause a fire. Then there is the time away from work - I work form home, but I don't get ANY work done when I have to be on the phone with these people for hours.

We put in the service request on their website that night. According to their policy the service company is supposed to call you with in four hours. We did not receive any call from Aire-Serv the local company that they use that morning. My husband then called them at 3PM and we were told that the technician will be there at 11:00 AM. on Thursday 6/12/08. We are in Kansas and the weather was hot and humid and I was sick from the allergies. The technician arrived at the scheduled time, and checked out the furnace and told me that the motor and the control board had shorted out due to the power surge. He informed me that he had to send the report to AHS for the repair to be authorized. It was really hot and humid that day and I asked him as to why he could not call them now and get an approval. He said he is required to send in the report and someone would contact me in the morning and let me know of AHS's decision. He collected his $55.00 service fee and left.

Then on Friday 6/13/08 I waited to hear from AIRE- Serv or AHS. NO Call. I then called Aire Serv at 10:00AM and asked them if they had any news for me, the lady that answered the phone told me that they won't know anything till after 10:30AM. So I wait again. Finally at 12:30 I call AHS and the customer service representative that answered the phone told me that the technician from Aire Serv has not sent them the report and therefore they cannot give me any decision. At that time I informed them that this is an AC issue, I have been without AC since Monday. She told me that this is the only company that they deal with and that maybe the tech is very busy. She then put me on hold and came back saying, we just received the report and the technician has diagnosed the problem being power surge, they do not pay for this repair. I was also told that if I did not agree with the report I could request a second opinion.

At this time I mentioned to them that this is already Friday afternoon, and when was the other company going to come. And then I have to wait another week. The weather forecast is hot and humid for the next few days. She said that there is nothing they can do, since the problem arose from a power surge. After I hung up with them I called a local heating and air conditioning company at 1 PM. They told me that a technician will be at our house between 2-4PM. At 4PM the technician arrived and I explained to him about the breaker tripping. After his inspection he told me he found a loose wire from the blower motor making contact with the cabinet. The Blower motor shorted internally causing breaker to trip. He also said that if this had been due to a power surge the breaker would not trip everytime.

It cost me $698.00 to get my AC working. I guess AHS just want to collect the dues but do not want to pay for repairs. I am not renewing my contract with them. They also increased my dues to $41.57 per month from $39.00. I am going to put this money in my bank and save it for repairs.

This is the same basic thing they did to me. My unit is 15 years old. The Compressor on the Heat Pump locked causing a feedback to the Breaker Box burning it and then the furnace too. The tech came out and said it was caused by a lightening strike !! It caused a power surge and AHS said they would not cover it. No storms or lightening in over a week here. The truth is, the unit is 15 years old and locked up, burning the board and Furnace unit. Nothing else was burned. All the Dryer, Washing Machine etc works !!!

I was encouraged by my Mortgage Company, Wells Fargo, to purchase this.

I am filing a Complaint with the Indiana Attorney General about AHS and attach this Website. I was told by the Insurance Commisoner, AHS is not a Insurance Company, but a Warranty Company.

When I read the Website on AHS, I found nowhere on this internet site where it has their Fine Print Polocies. I did not receive this until after I had purchased it. The A/C man made sure to point out section 6 of AHS. the part about not covering a Power Surge or as they call it, lightning strike on a clear week. Funny how it only affected the A/C unit. No burn marks on the house or Heat Pump outside. Sitting on a plastic pan.

American Home Shield has taken my timely payments for a few years now. On Monday, June 8th, my AC went out. I live in Texas where temperatures have been in the mid-90s all week. On Tuesday, I called AMS. On Wednesday Circle J Heating and Air came out, and diagnosed the problem, needing to order a part. I called Circle J on Thursday and the paperwork was nowhere to be found. No return calls.

On Friday, when Circle J still couldn't find the paperwork, I called AMS and requested a new company. I was told, in essence that I need to put up with the crummy service - they will not replace the company. I left a message for Circle J's scheduler, the supervisor, and the owner of the company. I left another message for AMS for a manager to call me. It is now Monday, June 16th at 9:40pm, and it is 91.9 degress INSIDE my house. This does not qualify as an emergency, I am told. I have not spoken to anyone from Circle J since last Friday when I left the messages, and AMS tells me that they will still not give me a new company to do the work.

This is the most incredible and ridiculous situation that could ever occur! If I DID NOT have this warranty, my home would be cool and comfortable right now because I can certainly find an AC quy in the DFW metroplex that would like some additional work! Because I have a warranty and would like to claim on the dollars I have paid into it, I am getting no service at all. If you have an attorney that would lilke to handle this, I would LOVE to speak with him/her!

Unlivable house, with no phone calls, satisfaction, or any promise of this ever being taken care of.

Hot water heater valve broke and all water was draining out of the water heater. AHS would not treat as emergency. The company they sent was late, did not have proper tools to complete the job and never provided a receipt. The came out on Friday 4/18 and I paid the $55 fee to that company (1st Texas Plumbing). They technician said he would try to come Saturday to finish the job. He did not come and I had to call to find that out, he said he would be there first thing Monday (4/21) morning. He didn't show and I called and he said his boss wouldn't let him come because he other assignments.

No one called and I was missing work. I called the boss and they said the would come out on Tuesday 4/22. The same technician was again late but finally finished the job and still had no receipt. Now I keep getting bills from AHS because this company is trying to get another $55 because they came twice, not my fault that they don't carry the correct tools. I have been called AHS for 2 months to get this taken care of. 1st Texas Plumbing won't return AHS' phone calls, but AHS keeps billing me. They won't allow me to email the a copy of the front and back of the check, this is 2008 and I can't email them.

I have asked for a manager to call me back because the AHS reps aren't taking care of anything. No manager has called even though they say one will call within 48 hours, it has been 5 days. I have wasted a lot of time trying to straighten this out but AHS seems unwilling to listen to me or take care of this, but they have no problem with sending me bills that I will not pay!

Time and energy wasted calling them and nothing being done. They keep billing me for the second service fee that this company is not due.

Finally got second AC comnpany out to look at our unit. This only took four more calls with the AC co., and three more with AHS - had to force the work order info to be re-emailed to AC co. for third time - never really sure AHS sent 1st 2 times, since AC co. never rcv'd - 3rd time I MADE AHS email to me and AC co. at same time, and MADE AHS stay on phone with me until I received work order email

AC co. showed up once all was clear, and fixed a relatively minor issue. I only pd the $55 as I was supposed to, and it was over quickly. Question is: WHY DID I HAVE TO BATTLE FOR OVER A WEEK TO GET THIS DONE?

I received the AHS warranty and I thought I would be covered. I moved in and the very first day I noticed the air was taking a long time to come to the temperature I set it on. Next morning called AHS and local service man showed up in an appropriate time. I was there with the service man and he said it definitely had a leak but the fins on the coils were badly damaged. He told me if I did not get them fix the compressor would eventually burn up due to not having any air flow and dirty. This was not just a couple of spots on the fins it was totally damaged. He requested that I need to replace the coil. The service man fixed the 2 leaks and requested to get the coils changed out due to circulation and would cause the compressor to burn up. He said he would see how long it would take to get the coils. He called me in an reasonable time and said they only had 2 at the factory he gets them from.

AHS said they would not cover the coil that it was considered normal wear and tear which it is not. The service man said it needed to be done and I agreed. So by saying this I am going to be out $625.00 and this was the sole reason of getting a warranty to protect me from something being broke. Well guess what! The coils are totally smashed and cannot even be combed out. So I am another disappointed homeowner and so is my Realtor that will never use AHS again due to just using common sense and repair something that is unfixable like the coils.

My compressor will burn up since AHS is not conserding the coils as something that should be covered. This is costing me $625.00 due to someone not using common sense to repair something that is broke just like the 2 leaks. Plain and Simple. That is alot of money to me when I bought something to cover me in case something like this happened. I just left a home that was destroyed by a Tornado and wanted to be protected but I am not.

I had two inspectors check the house, before I bought the house and a 2d time when I had my house refinanced, none of the inspectors told me anything about my A/C conditions. I've been with AHS for several years and they have never sent me an inspcetor to make sure that everything in my house was OK, to their standards, but insured me very quickly...I have contacted BBB who have contacted AHS. The A/C company AHS sent to my house is subzero A/C co. subzero never answered my questions and have an unsatisfaction rating from BBB for not answering to complaints or to BBB.

AHS sent me a $741.83 check to solve the problem and I have returned it today by mail. The case is still wide open for me. The comments that I read online are equal to my experience with this company. When you are done with hidden charges, you will have paid for all but the labor on the work. If you are paying a premium of say $450 that is 9 hours of labor before the company starts losing money so they will make sure that you never get ahead of them through hidden charges. It is easy for them to do because your contract will not cover enough minutae that they can simply stick in charges until they stay ahead of the game.

We used them for three items in our house. It wasn't worth the continual hassle and I had to do a lot of the work to avoid the additional costs. That is the only way that you can hope to break even... do the hidden cost work yourself and get them to simply provide the replacement part(s). The 'service visits' are another scam and if your first 'contractor' screws up, you will get to argue with them about paying another service call to get a better contractor. Do not EVER buy one of these policies from American Home Shield.

The dryer was properly vented and we always remove lint between every drying. This is obviously standard procedure because I can guarantee there is not a dryer in the world that has been used that does not have some backed up lint or coins. After holding for 30 minutes and sent to a supervisor coverage was still denied because of 'lint.' Amazing what they can get away with and still collect your $41 every month.

I purchased my home on August 30, 2007 with the Buyer's protection warranty from American Home Shield. I have only used my air conditioner around four times since then. On Sunday, June 8, 2008, one of the hottest days of the year, my air conditioner stopped working. I am from Philadelphia and are in the state of a Heat wave. The news already reported that two people were found dead because they had no air conditioner in this weather.

I called and reported this problem to American Home Shield explaining that my house is 93 degrees inside and that I have jeliousy rollout windows so I can't even buy a window unit even if money aloud. I have two children ages 11 and 8. My oldest daughter has asthma and my youngest daughter has a rare respitory disease known as RRP Virus (which is a life threatening disease of the respiratory tract. The disease is caused by the Human Papillomavirus, also known as HPV. The virus causes tumor-like lesions to grow on the larynx and, in some cases, in the trachea and lungs. These growths can cause suffocation and death especially in this extreme heat wave (code red).

I reported that my unit was not working. American Home Shield sent a contracted company out to repair the unit. The service guy was here for about 3 hours and could not get the unit to work. He then said to me, he has another call that is an emergency because a computer lab has lost air supply. He then walked off and said he will send his boss to exam the unit. The owner of the Air Conditioner company came out around 9:15 pm and said that the unit was around 20 to 30 years old and the part would be almost impossiable to find.

I have been trying to move American Home Shield to get working on replacing this unit and they keep telling me that I can't speak to any employee that is in higher command and that they are still searching for this part. What is it going to take? My daughter to hyperventalate? My other daughters lungs to lock up? I have two dogs, a guniea pig and two gerbils, all which are suffering of extreme heat exhaustion.

So, we call and are told that this company is the ONLY one that can be sent to our house. This is because the repair company is meeting the expectations of the home warranty company.

I start thinking about it a figure out that if the guy comes on Friday between 3 - 5pm if he needs a part and doesn't have it on his truck he is going to say 'Guess it will be Monday folks'. Or I bet if we pay him the overtime he will magically find the part that night nad return the next morning Saturday and fix it for the over time fee. So my wife contacts the home warranty fools and tells them this and they repeat that it's not life threating and that we are out of luck.

I know for a fact we have about 60 AC repair companies in the Birmingham area and for these fools to tell me that this one company is the only one that can do the work is an insult to me and my family.

I signed up with American Home Shield (herein also referred to as AHS) on 08/09/07 and my first payment was charged to my credit card on 08/15/07 as agreed, and every month thereafter on time every time, without fail. On the evening of 04/09/08 our water heater began to leak from the top of the tank. By the morning of 04/10/08 it began also leaking from the bottom. This of course meant that we had to turn off all hot water to our home.

I contacted AHS on 04/10/08 at 11:08AM and they assigned a vendor (ARS Rescue Rooter) and I was contacted by ARS Rescue Rooter within an hour and told they would have a technician come out between 1:00PM and 6:00PM the same day. The technician arrived at 2:15PM and I took him to our crawlspace to surmise the problem. Before even making it to the water heater he shook his head and blurted out code violations (apparently the ARS Rescue Rooter illicit M.O.). To my surprise because I had just purchased the home 2 years prior and we had the crawlspace area thoroughly inspected. He made a call to AHS for approval and I waited to hear about coverage information.

I was contacted by AHS within about 30 minutes, approximately 2:55PM. The AHS Rep. told me that they would cover the water heater because the problem was due to normal wear but he said that he was informed by the vendor that there were code issues in relation to the water heater that would cost an additional $900.00 out of pocket. I spoke with the technician and he stated that he could not perform ANY work without doing ALL the work due to County laws and ARS Rescue Rooter policy. I then asked the technician to provide me with a written copy of the estimate, to my shock he refused and stormed off (right across our new sod, as a mention to his mindset in regard to respect for clientele).

In truth there were no code violations as confirmed by an authentic professional and an inspector. The ONLY additional work possibly considered necessary, not under warranty by AHS, was the compression tank and that is only required if we upgrade the tank we currently had, not simply replace with a comparable item. By the way, the expansion tank is a $20.00 item retail if we had of requested a new one to be installed, and at no time did we request to have ARS to remove our old unit.

I contacted AHS to inform them of the misconduct, attempted extortion and exploitation of a client in a vulnerable situation. I was informed by AHS that I could opt for the Cash Out Option but I would have to wait. To add insult to injury AHS finally offered me a Cash Out offer of $165.00 to cover the cost of the water heater and the labor to repair it. I have since verified with the County and a legitimate plumber that the alleged code violation pointed out by the technician were in fact erroneous and I have had to have the problem repaired on my own at a total cost of $379.44 just for the water heater with labor, and this was at a substantially discounted price from a well known service provider. The lack of cooperation in resolving our issue from AHS is in direct violation of our agreement, resulting in our home having no hot water for four days.

Bottom line, I have been in no way compensated for the four days we were forced to live with cold water only in our home due directly to negligence on the part of American Home Shield. Had I realized that we would be unable to count on American Home Shield I would have had a new water heater installed the same day as the problem occurred. I know several honest plumbing contractors due to my daily field activities. After I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau AHS did send another check for an additional $150.00.

To sum up, service was never provided nor was adequate compensation; which is in direction violation of our agreement. This act by AHS and failure to react responsibly when required nullifies any and all agreements that may have been in effect prior to the morning of 04/10/08 leaving a full amount still due of $312.00.

I purchased my home in January 2008. By the end of the month, the furnace would run for 5 minutes, off for 10, over and over again. I called AHS and they sent a technician. He looked at the furnace and said there was water in there...he was going to get an electric shock and refused to touch it. He told AHS I needed a new heating unit, evaporator coil, and drain pan, but since there was rust in the unit, it happened before I purchased the home.

AHS would not cover it (of course, the only statement I have is the amount they were charging AHS). I then called another company. For right under $500, they repaired the furnace. They replaced the heat element, sequencer, and a couple of other things. Granted this is an old furnace, but it was then running great. I turned the a/c on June 1 to enjoy lots of warm air.

I called AHS this morning, and the person I spoke with said that since I did not have the furnace fixed the way the guy said it had to be fixed (all of the items he apparently listed even though he wouldn't even touch the furnace), they would also not repair the a/c. I am now waiting to once again pay out of pocket to have my a/c fixed. What kind of shady company is this?

And the best part? When I called my real estate agent in January to complain, he told me that he probably shouldn't have told me to buy the warranty...it's a shady company that does anything it can to get out of paying to do the work.

American Home Shield is an expert, an expert at avoiding its contractual obligations to their consumers. Their home warranty plans are worthless as almost invariably they will point to their customers as negligent and at fault for everything that they have agreed to cover in their contract. From my experience, they do not have an appeal mechanism either - it's their way or the highway.

The folks that one must deal with on their 800 numbers are not knowledgeable, nor are they helpful. They are obviously taught to say no and just get rid of you. Personally, I've had enough and am not going to tolerate their latest contracual breach.

Here are the circumstances of their latest denial: Our Kitchenaid refrigerator stopped cooling. We had a short window to deal with the fix, which would have helped save our considerable foodstocks. A repairman was dispatched. He spent less than 5 minutes on the premises before determining that it was our fault that the refrigerator had failed. He indicated the coils were dirty and therefore we were negligent.

He told me that American Home Shield had instructed them to walk away from any refrigerator repair where there was any sort of dirt on the coils. American Home Shield obviously intimidates their service contractors because our guy indicated that they could get stuck with the repair themselves if they don't do exactly what they are told. In our opinion, a terrible breach of fiduciary duty.

By the way, every refrigerator on the planet has dust build up on the coils and I actually clean the 5% of the coil in our unit periodically that is accessible by the laymen. Otherwise, they cannot be cleaned.

Also to confirm I asked if I could keep the essential plan during the winter and change it in the summer when the Central Air system would be included and that is when I would need it. The answer was yes.

When the summer started I called to change my plan and they said I could not change my plan until expiration. I asked to be contacted with a supervisor who told me the same thing. I explained that is not what I was told on the phone and asked if she had a recording of the conversation and she said they do not keep recordings and sorry.

Now I would have to cancel the policy because it is not what I realy need. I could have made the decision from the begining about what plan to pick if the information would have been correct.

And now we have to wait two more days for them to get the work done.

AHS refused to give us the name of another company to help us. They apparently have a 48 hour rule, and companies can make you wait until they can get to you. Even if it takes a week. AHS locks you in to working with one company. It does not seem logical to me to not be able to have a problem like ours fixed within 24 hours. AHS has very bad customer service, in my opinion.

However, each time that I make a call (I am charged $55 per service call), they have some way to exclude my claim, whether calling it a maintenance issue (as opposed to repair) or finding some other excuse as to why they can't fix it, etc. They only pocket the $55 and leave me to deal with repairs on my own.

    >$165 total costs of service calls >Possible water damage to my neighbor's home (Condensation from my air conditioner was dangerously close to leaking on the person below me - could total in the thousands of $$) >$275 AC repair fee which should have been covered by plan

We bought our home in 1998 in Tyler, TX and the buyers agent we used suggest we have American Home Shield to protect our interests. The first summer the AC stopped working. We called them after fighting on the phone with them for several days they sent someone out to look at it. Mind you, this was August in Texas. The serviceman hodge-podged the unit (which was 15 years old back together and it produced semi-cool air. It was a repeat performance of this scenario for the next 4 summers.

In 2003 our hot water heater broke and the house was full of natural gas fumes AFTER THE FLOOD. We called American Home Shield for service and they sent a plumber and authorized him to install a 20 GALLON TANK in a 3 bedroom 2 bath home for a family of 4. They were quibbling with him over a fee of $10. The plumber said he couldn't finish the job for what they were going to pay him and he was going to leave.

My husband asked for the plumbers cell phone and told American Home Shield that he was going to take his family, our pets and he was going to notify the neighbors that this house was going to blow. We were going to a motel, now. He told American Home Shield they could figure it all out with State Farm insurance AFTER the explosion as to who was at fault. We heard the plumbers phone ring as he was running to his truck. AHS authorized him to do the job right.

In 2004 AHS finally replaced the old AC after years of fighting. To us it was a new unit. We dumped AHS last year. Our new AC failed last week and our new AC, installed in 2004 by AHS was built in 1998. I wondered, at the time, why it didn't come in a box and am wondering now if it wasn't a stolen unit. The a-coil AHS had installed didn't match our system nor did they clean out any of the lines they should have. None of the work they authorized was done according to code. Now, $5000 later we have the new system they should have paid for. Are we angry, no. We are livid. We paid for NOTHING for 7 years and they were happy to take our money.

Economic damages: We just paid $4500 for a new AC and furnace that AHS should have replaced while we were under their coverage. They did not do their work according to code and, truthfully, our house could have burned SEVERAL times because of this. Even the people who put our new system in last week say AHS forces contractors to do shoddy work. I want ALL of the money I have paid over the years to these people back.

The hot water heater was identified during a home inspection as about to fail. The sellers called AHS, which sent out a contractor, to replace the water heater. The contractor stated on the workorder that he crawled under the house, looked all around the water heater and did not find any leak. The water heater was good in his opinion and did not warrant replacement and charged the sellers the $55 service fee.

Three days after I moved into the home, sure enough the water heater started to leak. I called AHS and they sent out another plumber. I presented the contractor with everything I knew about this water heater and that Drain Masters had been out to this address about the same problem. The young man called the authorization department and relayed all the information. Then I was told that because of the identification of the possible failure on the home inspection this was a pre-existing condition and was not covered. BUT! For $750, AHS would replace the water heater for me.

I just said no thank you because this wasn't the first water heater I ever changed in my life. The young plumber asked for the $55 service fee and I said no. He asked me to sign the workorder and I said I was under no legal obiligation to sign the paper. That was then I presented my credentials as a senior mechanical designer and commissioning specialist. I asked the gentleman from the authorization department if they got bonuses for the most claims not fulfilled.

I believe this division of Service Master is setup to defraud consumers especially young and elderly home owners. I tried reaching the authorization department to protest the decision but when I called I was told no one was in. I asked for a supervisor and they would not take my call.

We called American Home Shield to report the A/C not working. They said Denny's A/C would be out to fix it. We finally got an appointment for 8-12 Tuesday morning. I was in a meeting about 8:10 when a strange number called my cell phone. (I had given them my son's cell phone to call because I would be at work) I called my son after the meeting when I heard the voicemail. My son called the technician several times and left voice mails. Finally, around 11 am my son reached the technician. He said he wasn't in the area anymore. Why didn't he answer before or listen to the many voicemails. My son asked why he didn't show up. He said he called and nobody answered so he didn't show. He didn't knock on the door or ring the bell. Nothing.

So we called AHS again and tell them we would like someone with better customer service. They assign Quantum Air. They called within the prescribed 24 hours and made an appointment for Friday between 2 and 5. Did I mention this is in San Antonio, Texas at the END OF MAY? The technician from Quantum shows up just before 5pm. Yes, he used the old, it's not covered due to lack of maintenance then he went up into the attic because the ductwork was also on the work order. He said, Yes, there's a tear in the ductwork. It's 5 o'clock. I've got lots of places to go so we'll call you next Tuesday to MAKE another appointment. We have clocks in the house. We don't need someone to charge $55.00 to give us the time and tell us there is a problem with the ductwork. We called it in. We KNEW there was a problem. I wish I had seen this forum before I signed up. Beware!

At the end of the 30 mins, I was told that a repairman would be out at the house this morning PRIOR to 10 am. I was also told to call back if no one came. I called back at 10:35 am and found out I'm not even scheduled yet. I guess there's NO telling when I'll have a repairman here. We had leaks in our pipes under the house--40 year old galvanized pipes rotting away. American Home Shield sent out one company. He crawled under the house, found a wet pipe (a very slow leak through corrosion) and told AHS there was no leak. They sent out another person from the same company the next day. This time the leaking spot was dry, so he again reported no leak. I protested that it was leaking the day before, but he said it had to be leaking when he inspected it. He did not collect his $55, which was nice.

I called AHS again, and they sent out a second company. The day before Mike arrived, I crawled under the house myself and cleaned off the corrosion with a wire brush. I then has some nice leaks, one of which I had to seal with a clamp. When the second company arrived, of course they found leaks, and more areas of corrosion. They also found severe corrosion on our water heater connections, which had been improperly installed by a previous AHS contractor 10-15 years earlier. Mike fought with AHS to get us a new water heater and replacement of a lot of the worst of the corroded pipe under our house.

From this experience, I learned how AHS works with its contractors. The work done on our house would have cost me about $1600. The contractor was paid $55 plus $208 for the work AND materials. The water heater alone cost him ~$350. So that company lost a lot of money on this call, but was honest enough to do the job anyway. And Mike essentially worked for nothing on the call, since the workers get a cut of the profit on each call. The first company knew they would lose money, so they lied to get out of doing the job. AHS has has a great scam with their home warranty coverage. Service companies don't want to get stuck with low contract fees for these big jobs, and so do anything to get out of them. This means that coverage is often denied because the contractor has lied to AHS, to minimize or deny the problem or its cause. Dealing with AHS is extremely aggravating, not only because of them, but because they hire the dregs of the industry. Only the dregs are willing to take the pittance that AHS pays them. So we end up with incompetent or inexperienced workers most of the time.

American Home Shield seems like a good idea when you look at the brochure, but I wish I had stayed away. They have given me several reasons to quit using them, but the straw that broke the camel's back was when our ceiling fan stopped working. I filed a claim online by clicking fan needs repair and in the notes column put our ceiling fan no longer works and is smoking. AHS sent someone the next day, immediately (they were always prompt with their ineptitude), and that person got out the ladder, examined the fan, determined the motor had burned out, and said, That'll be $55. And I can't fix it. AHS says it isn't covered.

Why did they send you if the fan isn't covered? I asked. Why was there even a category called 'fan' if they don't repair fans? He shrugged, took my check, and left me with no fan and no money to fix the fan.

I called AHS, explained what happened, and said I was cancelling my service. They said, Don't go. We'll refund you the $55 service fee if you won't go. I said, Ok. That was April 2nd. Each week thereafter I called, begging them to give me the $55 back they promised. First they said it was processing and that would take 30 days.

In March, when that ominous 30 day period was up, I called again. The customer service rep said, Um -- the man who serviced your fan hasn't closed the account yet. You can't get your money until he does. One week later, no money. I call again. Oh -- it looks like we never processed the check. Woops. I'll put in an order to get your refund started. I couldn't believe my ears. Started? I said. I'm going to have to go another 30 days without my money? Yes ma'am, they said. Sorry. But they weren't sorry. I'm still out my $55, not to mention what I've forked over to pay for AHS usually, and I still don't have a ceiling fan that works, and I live in Mississippi and it's HOT here.

We called C.M. on the 9th and were informed that their weekend schedule was already full, but that a service technician would be at our home to inspect the a/c unit first thing Monday morning. No call, no show on Monday May 12. A technician came on Tuesday May 13 and made his initial assessment. He said he had to get approval for repairs. AHS approved the repairs on Wed. 5/14.

But since this initial contact was made, we have had four(4) separate appointments that the technician has failed to show or call to reschedule. Every time WE had to call the company to find out what was going on. On three(3) of these occasions during conversations with AHS I have asked if alternative contractors were available. Each and every time I was given the same company to fulfill my request. My wife was home all Saturday morning 5/17 waiting for a tech. She called 3 different times to AHS and was told each time that Consolidated Mechanical had a tech in the area and would be getting hold of her ASAP. On the third call she asked to speak herself to the C.M. tech. and was FINALLY told that our a/c would probably not be fixed on Saturday, but he would STILL tell his tech to come by to see if he could do something (of course - no call/no show).

It is now 7:15 A.M. Sunday morning, May 18th, and my air conditioner is STILL not working. The temperature will be 105 today in the Phoenix area - I wonder how hot my house is going to be...

I took 2 half days and one full day off of work to be available for a scheduled technician to come fix my a.c. and only one of these half days did anyone show up. My wife went and purchased 2 fans yesterday to help alleviate some of the heat. (AHS said they would reimburse us up to $60 for fans) We (myself, my wife, and our son) have to make arrangements today to get OUT of our house (even though my wife has reports she needs to get done today for her job) as the heat is making us nauseous. Fans just blow the hot air around, and it is too uncomfortable to stay here. Frustrations are running high in my house - just like the temperatures.

I have put in about 7 requests with AHS in the past 5 months and only one of them has been accepted. Every time 1 of their contractors comes out they have a lengthy reason why the problem is not covered but they sure charge yo the $60 service fee. The most frustrating one was when our 20 year old water heater leaked and AHS rejected the claim because the BK pluming ( one of their contractors) plumber had diagnosed the problem as caused by the water pressure fluctuations caused by City of Charlotte. To top it off BK plumbing quated a ridiculous price for the repair if we chose to hire them to replace the heater. We had a tenant staying in the house therefore the problem had to be resolved immediately.

Needless to say, we hired a different plumber to fix it for $900 the same day. The plumber we used that stated that the rejection reason sounded completely false to him and that the house had a water pressure regulator and that the water heater was 20 yrs old and had to be replace because of it's age. He said that most water heaters last only about 8-10 years. Afterwards I faxed a dispute claim with our plumber's diagnosis to the American Home Shield's Inspection Services. They called me back and asked a number of questions and said that they would refund me $500. When I asked why $500 and not the full $900, the AHS rep told me that that is how much it'd cost them to install a new water heater. Needless to say that I reminded them that if they had accepted the claim in the first place I wouldn't had had to pay the $900. But there was no reasoning with the American Homeshield rep. She told me that I should be happy to get the $500 and I said OK.

This conversation took place on 3/12/08 and AHS told me that it'd take up to a month to get my check via mail. After not receiving it by late April I call AHS back, and got kicked around from dept to dept, from one rep to another and findally AHS told me that the refund had not been closed out and that is why I hadn't gotten my check. Again multiple calls and transfers later, another AHS rep told me that the refund should be close out and I should get my check within 30 days. Still nothing in my mail box.

I just called them again on 5/15/08. American Home Shield, after typical multiple transfers again, I was told that the check hasn;t been sent out by their cash out dept yet, but that the rep will see if they can expedite it and if I don;t get it by 5/23/08, I should call them back. Here I am 2 fulls months later still hoping that they will send me the check. Maybe that's their startegy, relying on people getting frustrated and not having multiple hours to devote to calling AHS and following up. In addition to that I have had 6 plumbing problems rejected for bogus reasons and this company is terrible. I'd never recommend it and I'm not going to renew the contract. Watch out!

$900 plus a service fee of $60 for the rejection.

He said my heater relay was burned up,the contactor was burnt up,and my evaporator coils were clogged. He changed out the contactor but said he would have to get AHS to approve the remaining work.

Three days go by so I called ARS to see what was going on and I was told by the receptionist that my claim to AHS was denied. Wondering why the technician never called I got in touch with AHS to find out why. You guessed it I was told I had not kept up the maintenance on that unit( common cop out ). I've had a maintenance contract on this home since I bought it - over 10 years. A/C has been iffy, various parts replaced on two or three occasions (fan motor, condensate drain pump). Takes too long, parts never available, but additional services are always recommended at stiff prices. My most recent experience: duct work has leaks, and duct work is covered. Paid $55 for the service tech to tell me that the problem with the duct work is improper installation, which is not covered by AHS.

How am I, the consumer supposed to know that my duct work was improperly installed. AHS didn't inspect if before offering to cover it, but they have accepted the yearly fees. The ducts used to work fine, now they don't, but since it's an improper installation, I'm on my own to fix it. This company is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. Think The Rainmaker, only this is not about health coverage. My advice to homebuyers, STAY AWAY from this company.

$4000 plus paid in premiums, pain in the butt to get repair work done, always weeks involved to get parts for commonly available items. Contractors consistently identify needs for services not covered by AHS. I have an estimate from a reputable company of $3400 to replace the ductwork.

I live in a suburb of Houston. I have had AHS coverage for several years. Thursday evening my central A/C broke down. I called AHS. They gave me the name of an A/C repair company that would call me on Friday. When I didn't receive a call, I called the company myself. They said they had no service order from AHS. I called AHS, and it took more than 20 minutes to get a custermer service rep. (It appears they give lower priority to calls about existing service orders.) AHS told me they dispatched my service order to a different company. They could not explain why I was initially given the wrong information.

When I contacted the new company, they told me they could not send anyone out until Monday. (Note that afternoon temperatures are in the 90s.) I called AHS again which required another long wait. When I complained about being without A/C through the weekend, the AHS agent told me they only have two providers in my area. AHS HAS CONTRACTS WITH ONLY TWO A/C REPAIR COMPANIES FOR MY PART OF HOUSTON WITH SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND RESIDENTS.

AHS changed my service order to the other company (the one I was originally told). The repairman came out at Noon. He said he would need to replace the fan belt and moter in my condenser unit. Then he told me he could not get the parts until next Wednesday at the earliest. A WEEK TO REPAIR MY A/C. Then he offered me an alternative ... he could replace my A/C condenser today for $4000. So I called other A/C repair companies myself. I found several that could come out today and replace the fan belt and moter for less than $500.

So here are my compaints: 1. I pay $500 anually for a warranty with AHS. But now I learn they only have contracts with two A/C service providers for an area with several hundred thosand residents and homes. 2. Using my AHS warranty, it will take a week to get my A/C repaired when afternoon temperatures are in the 90s. 3. I called around and found multiple A/C repair companies who could fix my A/C (fan belt and moter) same day for less than $500. 4. Was the repairman sent by AHS honest? He said it would take a week to make the repair (because he would have to order parts) if I used the AHS warranty. But he could repair my A/C today if I would purchase a new condenser unit from his company for $4000.

My home is in the Dallas TX area but is being rented out. When I first got involved with American Home Sheild I thought it was a good idea. I didn't expect any problems because my house was new. But I had to rent it out so I wanted to make sure the rentors would be taken care of. For the first couple of years no problems. I paid my annual fee and everything was good. Then around 02 I would have to call a service tech and they would show up take their service fee which was $45.00 at the time and leave.

Well to make a long story short. From 02 to 08 there has not been anything that a service call to American Home Sheild was made for has been replace at the expense of AHS. I don't care if it is on their contract to replace with no cost to you they will have the service tech they send out write it up to where you have to incur all the cost to fix. They have not fixed anything with out me having to pay the cost to get it fixed. I personnally installed two garage doors at my house along with a friend of mine who is a carpenter and had the doors tested. One day the spring came loose and the door would come up half way and stop.

The lady renting the house called me and I told her to call AHS. The tech came out and did work on the doors that were not covered and wanted to charge $79.00 dollars. The first thing I asked the guy is what did you do for me to pay you. He named a list of stuff. I installed the doors in April of 07 no one lived in the house until Feb 08 so I could not understand what he had to do to the doors other than tighten the spring. I was told the doors needed regular maint. The wheels and brackets needed greasing and he went on and on. I told him there is no way this needed to be done because I personnally installed the doors myself.

I called AHS an was told he should not have done no work outside of what was contracted before calling AHS. I asked did he call before he did any work and was told no after they look at their logs. So I asked, well who authorized him to do the work? Would you believe I was told [they] did. After I finish blessing them I was told my wife did. I then informed them there is no a chance--my wife would not authorize anything without she and I discussing it. I was then told the tenant did. Me and the tenant got on a conference call with the company and it became my wife again.

We called AHS to complain and was told there is nothing they could do we need to work it out with the company. I took the time to write this to inform anyone that is looking for a company to insure the safety and upkeep of there home do to them having to be absent do not use this company. It is a rip off and there is nothing that could be done about it. Our government don't care because they are all about big business and the customers are the ones suffering. But for anyone that would like to band together and make a push to do something about this I would be the first to raise my hand. One person alone is not enough.

The first company - Aardvard Appliance Repair - was as rude as possible. They are suppost to call to make an appointment. Well, he said, i am in the neighborhood, so i will be right over. I told him that my wife and I were at work, but he was insistant trhat he come now - to make it easy on us. I tried to schedual an appt, and he got nasty. SO, I canned AHS, and had them remove this person from the call.

The next company, ISC Appliance, did make the appointment, and they informed me they were sending their best tech - someone who basically serviced nothing but Maytag. He came, and after 5 minutes of looking at it, informed my wife that he was not capable of fixing it, it was 'too technical' for him. He collected his fee, and left.

So, now I call AHS, and make another appointment. They call Sears, and schedual someone to come out. He comes, and tells me that because someone had already looked at it, he would not service the machine. Now I am stuck with AHS telling me they are waiting for Sears to give them the diagnosis, Sears telling me they cannot give a diagnosis, because thel will not look at the machine, and AHS Customer Service basically temming me that it is too bad, i jsut ahve to rearrange my li9ve to accomodate them. They informed me that i will have to take a day off of work to have ISC come and pit the lid bacl on the machine, then another day off to have someone come and perform a diagnosis to determine what is wrong - then ANOTHER day to have someone come and try to repair it. For all of the work I am losing, I could ahve BOUGHT a new machine.

These people seem to ahve no concern with actually honoring what they are selling you. Pay your premiums, pay the service fee, and hope you get what you pay for.

Our water heater broke and flooded our home with water. It had been installed 10 years ago without a safety drain pan. I tried to shut the water off at the tank, but the spigot had corroded, therefore allowing water to continue to gush into and through the tank and into our home. I had to shut down the water to the entire house at the street to stop the flooding. I called American Home Shield (AHS) and filed a claim. This was on a Saturday morning. Their contracted plumbers, J & K Plumbing of McKinney, Texas, did not come out to assess the situation until the following Tuesday afternoon. By then, I had drained the tank and moved it aside so that I could stop off the water inflow pipe, which enabled me to turn the water back on to provide water to the house.

When the plumbers arrived, they immediately collected their $55 service fee, then they informed me that they would not be able to do repairs or replacement because I had moved the appliance from its original spot. They informed me that AHS had denied the claim because they could not verify that the appliance had broken spontaneously. I could have, they insisted, broken the appliance myself when I moved or tried to repair it. I pointed out that my home had been flooded and that I would have no reason to move the water heater unless it was already broken.

AHS never paid on the claim. I was forced to purchase and install a heater on my own. AHS is a RIP OFF. I highly recommend consumers to AVOID AHS,

Called AHS that Saturday morning. They dispatched their stellar plumbing company, J & K Plumbing of McKinney, who informed us that they would not be able to come until the following Tuesday.

In the meantime, I was forced to shut the water down at the street to prevent further flooding. When I tried to shut the water down at the tank itself, the spigot wouldn't work because of corrosion. There was no way to shut down the water at the tank. I was then forced to cut the intake flow pipe and seal it off with a new spigot so that I could turn on the water to the house so that we could at least have running water until the heater was repaired or replaced.

When J & K Plumbing arrived and saw that I had moved the water heater from the closet to get to the spigot, they phone in to AHS who promptly refused to honor the claim because I had tampered with the appliance before the technician could make his asessment. American Home Shield is a RIP OFF. BUYER BEWARE. Needless to say, we cancelled our policy with this company.

We had to purchase and install our own water heater. AHS never paid a penny towwards this expense. If we had honored their policy to not touch the appliance, we would have either had to go several days without water, or incur further damage to our home.

At 3:17 p.m. two young men appeared said it was the fan on the condenser and left to return the next day. My husband received a phone call from Mike who said the part was going on the truck first thing in the morning to be dispatched to our residence. At 4:00 p.m. on Friday 25 April Mike appeared with the fan, installed it and it did not function. He changed out the breaker switch. No deal! It did not function. At 5:00 p.m. he threw up his hands and said he didn't know what was wrong with it but he would get with his son and work out something? At 7:01 p.m. we received a call from Gary Grimes and he said the air conditioner could not be fixed. AMerican Home Shield was told by Mr. Grimes, that he would call in the info by 8:30 a.m. yesterday 26 April 2008.

According to American Home Shield, they have not as yet 27 April 12:30 p.m. received this call. In the mean time, we have called repeatedly to both Mr. Grimes and American Home Shield to no avail. We have had this service for over 10 years and I like so many other pay $56.00 per month for this service. When I asked American Home Shield why they would send someone from so far out, I was told they can send anyone they wish. Here is the main problem> We have been without Air Conditioning in our home since Thursday 24 April. It is now 3 days later and nothing!

My son and I both have bronchicial asthma for which we need the air to breathe. Who will pay for emergency room service for either of us if we need it because of the lack of interest from the companies involved? Why in the world would any home warranty company send out people who do not work past 5:00 on Friday and not return til 8:30 Monday a.m.? Now that I have not gotten the service and they have failed to call back into American Home Shield I do not know what my alternative should be. I have to wait for authorization from this Air Conditioning company but I sure don't want their service. If I go ouside the network of American Home Shield I will loose any compensation they deem applicable. These are two very sorry companies as far as I am concerned.

In March we logged a service request due to a leaking booster pump which is covered by our policy. When the contractor showed up, he was unable to fix the leak and deemed the installation of an inline chlorinator as the culprit. This invalidated the warranty coverage. Instead he presented me with a bid to fix the pump for $544. Its been a 3 weeks and the pump still leaks. IF they are going to take my money at least honor your commitment!

On Saturday February 23, 2008 I placed a service call for my furnace, specifying that it was not operating, heard water running, smelled gas. Subsequently, your service company Fidalgo did not respond until Tuesday, February 26th, at which time I was out of town and had shut my furnace off. By taking this precautionary measure I probably saved my house from burning down or possibly blowing up the whole neighborhood, due to slow response time. On my last service call using their service, approximately 5 years ago, in the middle of a heat wave in the summer my air conditioner was not working. Fidalgo Company came at that time and didnt really know what was wrong with the unit after making us wait at least 5 days. He claimed he repaired it and it broke again. Fidalgo came again and said he had to order a part and I was without air conditioning for about a month in the middle of a heat wave. Upon returning home I called Fidalgo Heating and scheduled an appointment for Thursday March 6th, 2008. The owner Mr. Fidalgo came and explained to him that it may be the thermostat and he went to the basement and opened the furnace, without removing the motor , informed me that the motor was gone and that it was due to abuse/poor maintenance/dirty and that the warranty would not cover it. He told me that he didnt have time to service the unit or repair it as he had to leave his schedule open for AHS service calls. I was irate, paid him his $55.00 and sent him on his way.

The office then left a message on my voicemail stating that the unit was in disrepair due to my neglect and that it would not be covered. I would say my customer experience has not been stellar. I believe Fidalgo was unprofessional and he represents the company. When I requested another company for a second opinion, did not have one and couldnt provide one. In the future I would recommend that when they refuse to cover a unit under service warranty, deliver the message by speaking directly with the customer, not leaving a voicemail message. I spoke with disputes/customer service division the next business day and was told to have another insured company come and review the furnace situation, which I immediately did.

I called Frasair Company who is well known in my area and had installed this unit 16 years ago in my new home. They stated that the motor burned out due to normal use and age. They cannot diagnosis a motor failure without removing the motor. I have enclosed the bill for review and expect to be reimbursed for this charge. They gladly have taken my money for warranty contract through American Home Mortgage for the last 10 plus years in my new home. I havent used service for at least 5 years. I do not feel I have been properly serviced for this furnace issue.

What kind of service/repair company doesnt have an address on their invoice ? In my 30 years as a homeowner I have never had service done in my house and been given a receipt with no address on the bill. If we cannot come to a mutually agreeable conclusion on this issue --- I expect to be compensated for the repair of my furnace. I will be forced to go the Consumer Affairs Department in all states involved in this problem. I will make a formal complaint to my Mortgage Company, Wells Fargo as well as take this to small claims court. I have recommend dozens of family and friends which I cannot do in good conscience in the future. In fact, if I do not get compensated I will let them know of my experience and let them make their own conclusions.

We had Frasair repair the furnace as instructed by AHS and submitted the bill for $962.00. The sent a letter refusing to pay the bill on April 14th from Vicky Fergson. Frasir who installed the unit said the unit had been maintained and it had failed due to normal use/wear & tear. The unit is 16 years old.

On March 5, 2008 UKH was to come, but no one showed up or called. I called AHS and spoke with Shelly on March 5, 2008. She assured she would take care of things. Shelly stated that AHS would give $207.25 towards a new microwave. I told her I wanted it repaired, because it is only two years old. The part was to be ordered and would arrive in approximately ten working days. Today is April 16, and I am still without a microwave. On March 23, 2008 I spoke with Faye from AHS. Again I was asked the same questions about repairs or replacement. Again I was told the part would be ordered. I have not heard from anyone, and I am still without a microwave.

The damage is that each month AHS automatically deducts a payment for a service I have not and I am not receiving. This is fraud. I have been inconvienced for approximately two months because of AHS incompetent service. I am appalled at such incompetence.

March 2008 AHS has been great about repairing my air conditioner and fixing my ceiling fans. However, when I called about having mold in my dishwasher, it took a more than week for them to get a repair tech to my house. I explained that I first saw mold approximately three weeks ago, and I cleaned it out with bleach. A week later the mold came back, so I cleaned it out again. The tech from Arrow Appliance (Phoenix) spent a whole 5 minutes in my house and said he knew the problem before he even showed up. He said it wasnt installed properly; there was not air gap in the hose and my garbage disposal was backing up into my dishwasher. He said my dishwasher was not repairable; it was unsanitary and needed to be replaced. More than a week later, after numerous phone calls (no one ever answered, we had to leave voicemails), we were told that our claim had been denied due to the diagnosis that the dishwasher wasnt installed properly. I asked why the repairman wouldnt have fixed the problem if all it required was to fix the hose. I asked What did I get for my $55.00? Monica said that the $55.00 charge was for a worker to come out and give a diagnosis, not to repair or fix the problem, and the diagnosis was that it was installed improperly.

We told AHS that we didnt have problems until after our garbage disposal was fixed (by AHS) so they sent out the owner of the company who had replaced the disposal. This gentleman said (of course) that it was installed properly, that he thought the hose had just fallen down from continued use of the dishwasher. I told Monica that I would consider that to be normal wear and tear and she said she could understand why I was confused. Then, she said that they dont know why my dishwasher has mold, but Andy from Arrow Appliance said that he wont stand by his initial diagnosis, and now says that maybe it was installed properly and it just fell down during the three years of use. When I asked Monica why the mold is in my dishwasher if its not because its installed properly, she said she didnt know, that I would need to replace it. I said I dont want to replace the dishwasher and have the same problem occur again. According to her earlier comment, the $55.00 fee was for a diagnosis, but they still couldnt tell me why my dishwasher has mold. If I paid for a diagnosis, then I want one!

Monica said the diagnosis is that the dishwasher has mold. I said that the mold is a symptom; the diagnosis would be the reason why the mold is growing there to begin with. She said that AHS definition of a diagnosis was that my dishwasher has mold. Ive tracked where each time weve called AHS, its taken the rep or supervisor 5 or 6 working days to respond to our calls. Each time they did call back, they would call our home number, even though we repeatedly asked them to call our cell number. We are two hours behind, and when we get the messages at home the office is already closed. When we call back the next day, we get a voicemail and the cycle starts again. I have no choice at this point but to assume they are calling my home number because they really dont want to talk to us.

I feel that my monthly premiums have been a total waste, as well as the $55.00 charge that has resulted in absolutely no service to date.

I have a service contract with American Home Shield, a home warranty company for many years now. I wish to file a complaint about their fraudulent business practice. I have been paying all their premiums in a timely manner, like a good customer.

Recently, our refrigerator needed repairs. The contractor determined that the condenser needed to be replaced. The company denied service on the pretext that the refrigerator was not in the kitchen. The refrigerator is big and we kept it in the laundry room, right adjacent to the kitchen. In the past the same company has denied claim to repair our microwave, on the pretext that it was not built in and also denied repair on the airconditioner saying that it was not installed properly, even though we live in an area where the home inspection is very stringent and the air conditioner installation was per code and had passed the home inspection.

This company obviously looks for any flimsy reason to deny claim. It appears that there is a dollar amount above which the claim will be denied on one pretext or the other. The reasons for denial defy basic common sense and logic, but the company is allowed to get away with such crafty business practice, because these riders are built into the fine print of the contract. This business is nothing more than a cheap con job, duping millions of people into paying high premiums for dishonest service.

The first tech spent hours diagnosing and replacing everything he could think of and called Whirlpool in his attempt to repair the problem, but he could not. After we informed AHS the range had not been repaired they tried to send him back, he stated we should get a 2nd opinion as there was nothing else he could do. Second company came out, saw who the first one was and stated that JR was the best tech in the area, if he couldn't fix it then he'd contact AHS and ask them to replace the range.

AHS didn't like that and send another tech, who couldn't repair it, then another company and two more techs. Finally after an extended conversation with a Supervisor at AHS they sent a rep from Sears (the 7th tech). He stated that he didn't know what was wrong and everything had already been replaced but he would call AHS and report the problem. He also stated that when he called tech assist they told him he could not state the stove was unrepairable.

Five minutes after he left Sears called to state that the range was operating within normal parameters even though it still shuts off after 5 minutes.

They spoke english with difficulty and left a work order that was not legible and stated prior to departing that a determination would arrive in writing. The determination was that they reported we had broken off what they referred to as a thermostat. It is actually a sensor on the rear burner. Sensors are not broken off and what we reported is that the rear burners do not lite at all and therefore leak gas.

Still leaking gas and by the time the determination arrived, the company told us it was too late to request a second opinion. On December 26, 2007 I requested service for the repair of my oven. After I made a request for service call, American Home shield dispatched Appliance Thec Inc. I waited 2 days for a response but nothing seemed to be happening. I called AHS but to my surprise found out that this company apparently is not trained to work on this type of appliance. Then I was told that Sears had been dispatched to repair my oven. I received a phone call from a person with the name of Mike and he told me that a technician would be contacting me within the next 48 hours, but no call was received, and when I called Sears, I was told that the request had been cancelled but they didn't have a name for me as to who cancelled the call.

Then I went back to AHS and I once again was told that another company would be dispatched. Nothing happened and I did the same thing several times. The last time was on January 5, 2008 when I was told that I would be contacted the same day but nothing happened once again. After I sent a complaint to AHS I received a call from Rudy who told me and I am quoting, "This time they're not going to let this one fall through the cracks."

Then a company called Appliance Service Depot was dispatched. We made an appointment on January 12, 2008. The technician checked the oven and told me that a part was needed. After taking down the necessary information about replacing the bad part, he told me that he would check with AHS and order the part. About a week went by and again nothing happened. On Sunday, January 19, 2008, I received a call from the technician, asking me if I want to purchase the part or not. I said to him that he needs to check with AHS for that--not me. He rudely said that I don't have insurance and that I need to pay for the part. I advised him to call AHS. The following day I called AHS and spoke to Rudy and he told me that the part would be ordered and I would be contacted for the replacement. About a week later, the part arrived and the appointment was made for Wednesday January 30, 2008 to replace the part. The technician was late even thought I told him to make me his first job that day. He showed up at 11:00 AM in a bad mood and a sleepy face. He also looked like he was under the influence of alcohol. On top of that, he came with the wrong part, and angrily left when I asked him to leave.

After 3 months the repair has not been done and the oven still doesn't work. After all the time wasted in dealing with this I lost more than $500 in lost income and hours writing or talking on the phone.

I purchased my first home in November 2007. The purchase came with a Home Warranty Plan from American Home Shield. After a December downpour, I noticed a stain on one on the inside walls. Concerned that there might be some small tear in the shingle, I contacted American Home Shield for the very first time. They set up an appointment and told me that I would need to be at my home within 30 minutes of their arrival. Since I only live 20 minutes from home I thought: no problem. I received a call from their technician after 4:00 PM telling me he was on his way; I had been waiting by the phone all day. I took off immediately from work. Well, he waited 17 minutes and then left. I was so upset. Not only did I call the Roof Repair Company who left a note that they would reschedule, I also contacted American Home Shield to voice my displeasure. The Roofing Company has never responded, and AHS only told me I would have to call the Roofing Company to reschedule.

After failing to be able to reach them, I contacted AHS again and was told by a service desk worker that she would try to call the company on my behalf. I told her at that time that I really did not want this company doing any repairs as I normally would not do business with a company that had ignored me. I live in Indianapolis, IN, which is a fairly large city, and she offered to see if another company was available to take a look. Then she told me that there was only a single company quite a distance away that serviced roofs in Indianapolis. After waiting again for a service call, I never heard from the company. I have voicemail.

After a couple of weeks of hearing nothing, I then received a call from a lady who identified herself as being with AHS asking me how pleased I was with my recent repair. I thought it was a joke. I then told her the whole story and never heard an apology or an offer to look into the issue. At this time, I have never heard back. This is a badly managed company. AHS was a complete waste of money and time.

My clients used to complain about AHS every time, but I always gave benefit of doubt to AHS as I thought every company has their share of unhappy complaints. But when it struck me personally, I understood how bad their service was.

First, I had their service for all my rental properties. And every time I called them for a problem, they denied the service either on grounds of lack of maintanenance or abnormal wear and tear. How do you define abnormal wear and tear and lack of maintenance? The faucet of my bathroom went bad and AHS denied to repair. I asked for second opinion and paid out of my pocket and the second plumber could repair it in 10 minutes. All their contractor vendors are below par.

Second, recently I had a problem with A/C unit. The service technician reported that there was lack of maintenance and therefore has to be replaced and cannot be covered under AHS. I wanted to get a second opinion, but they don't have any preferred vendor other than this guy in that area. So I paid separately to another vendor and he said that A/C unit is perfectly fine except that there is a leak that has to be fixed. AHS does not want to pay for the repairs, all they can do is lift the exclusion on A/C for future repairs. All in all, pathetic company and service. So avoid it totally. So which Home warranty is a better one then? I don't know, I am still trying different ones and post my feedback on this website.

$2500 to replace the A/C unit.

There have a been several scenarios where AHS has not found a contractor (especially late at night or at freezing temperatures), and they would allow outside authorization. Being in this line of work, I know a lot of contractors for just about any job, and have things have ALWAYS worked out. People have feelings, emotions, and problems; and one must learn to interact/communicate/listen properly to people. Then you will see the win/win scenario at the end.

We volunteered that we had removed the FACE PLATES from the switches in one half of our house to paint the walls, so please feel free to check the switches to determine if they are faulty. Rather than diagnose the problem (he did not check them), he wrote down on his assessment that we removed the switches themselves (not the face plates) in order to paint, and that they were not installed properly afterwards.

Then the technician said the improper wiring shorted out the thermostat. They could replace the thermostat for a few hundred dollars. I decided to use another electrician to replace the thermostat and then called AHS again. Then they told me that I had to provide proof to them that a certified electrician replaced the thermostat. Why? When I moved into the house I had no proof that certified technicians worked on any of the appliances, etc., before I bought the house. They refused to send someone out until I could provide the proof. Of course, no certified individual is going to sign anything that he doesn't know how it will be used. So, AHS refused to send someone out.

Finally, frustrated, I demanded that they send someone out and their technician could let them know it was properly installed. Of course, by now I had to pay for another visit ($59 ea). Because I was so frustrated, they sent someone out who told me that they had to order a part to repair the air conditioner. Several days later it was finally repaired.

For what was supposed to be a $59 repair charge, I paid $59x2 and $100 for the wiring and a couple hundred dollars for the labor to install the thermostat and I forgot how much more for the actual thermostat. Not to mention the time I had to take off for several visits.

From Oct. 07 to Feb 08 I have not had heat. This company has had at least six to eight different heating companies come to my house to look at my furnace and none could repair it. The last co came out and ahs was told that the coils on the furnace would have to be flushed out before I could get heat. Needless to say ahs decided that this was a maintenance problem and would not authorize the completion of the repair. I called and tried to reason with them after being jacked around for four months but I could only speak to someone in customer service and was told in not so many words that any letter to the owner would only be sent to their department and nothing would be done. I am paying a monthly fee for what? This is the first time I have had a service call with them and I would not recommend them to anyone. The service was lousy and so was the knowledge of the eight different companies that they sent out. My opinion of the company is Lousy, Lousy, Lousy.

I still have no heat and will have to find a reputable co that can flush out the coils on the furnace.

I can't believe all the complaints here. I've had AHS since 10/98 and have been EXTREMELY satisfied with service provided by the company and the contractors they have sent to my home. The one time a 2nd call had to be made, there were no additional charges, and the problem (dishwasher) was repaired. I have nothing but praise for the service I have received through them.

I purchased a condo for my son, a student at college, that included a warranty from AMS. My first call, six months later, involving a water leak, was never returned. I called the company 24 hours later to be informed that they could not find a plumber in the area (10 miles from Charlotte NC), but they were actively looking. Eight hours later, no call, I called again with the same response. They would not accept a list of plumbers from me as they had to be on their approved list. Only after requesting my contract be canceled did they give me authorization to call a plumber.

I called a service person, had the leak fixed within the hour and the resulting charge was less than the co-pay AHS charges! Upon inquiring about their guaranteed response time, they offered that if I pay more money to classify my problem as an emergency they could find a plumber. In two days they never initiated a call to notify me of any status. I have found hundreds of complaints with the same story. They are a SCAM.

An expensive lesson learned. To add insult to injury, I received notice that my renewal was due a few weeks after the incident. I declined their offer!

We called AHS after finding out our furnace was giving out high amounts of carbon monoxide. AHS called a provider who called us within 1 hour of our first call to AHS. The company came out to my house and stated I had a cracked housing on the furnace. At that time the company shut off my gas and unplugged all wires to the furnace leaving us with NO heat in sub zero weather. The service provider wrote up his work order had me sign it and collected his service fee. The next morning the service provided sent another person out to look at the furnace to see what I would need to replace it and get back to AHS. The service provider stated that I had a few options to choose from but only gave me a quote on one, which of course was there highest priced furnace.

The provider left my house and later that after noon we received a call stating that AHS would not pay for that furnace as they considered it an upgrade. AHS us they would only play $2953 as a cash out option. AHS never called us. We called back a few times that day, now this all started on Thursday, Friday evening we were still waiting for a call back, with no call back friday night, so saturday we called back they stated they were still waiting approvals. with no call on sunday from AHS. Monday we decided to call again to AHS. at that time the person answered said she understood we are without heat in subzero weather but they are waiting for answer from supervisors. Well after that call and much searching on the internet, I decided it was time to call a higher up person. I got hold of Carolyn, the CEO secretary, and she was great.. and a huge help. Learned a lot about how things work with AHS.

All said and done we have done with the cash out but the furnace cost us $5331 and ASH will cover $2953 of it. Now I do have to state this is an upgrade which AHS does not cover. But AHS also can't find anyone in my local area to put what they want in which is a builder's quality furnace. So what was turning out bad has worked out good and a huge lesson learned. Still waiting for the cash out, they say it takes 7 day from the time we fax a paid receipt for the furnace.

Shortly after moving into my new home 2 years ago, my air conditioning on my heat pump went out. When I realized that AHS covered this item fully, I contacted them to have the air conditioning repaired. They sent out a series of 10 contractors to 'fix' the air conditioning. Literally - 10. None - I repeat NONE - of them have been able to get my air conditioning to work longer than 3 months. They have spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. At one point, due to their incompetency and that of their contractors (I filed a complaint about one of them on line with Angie's list, but AHS still sends them business - amazing), last summer for 2 LONG weeks in San Antonio Texas, I had absolutely no air conditioning. It was the most miserable 2 weeks of my life. Plus, I have 2 small children, one with asthma. Can you imagine? They paid for me to have 3 of those days in a hotel (a very cheap one) and that was all they did. Afterwards, the AC worked for another 3 months and went out again. I've called and their ridiculous customer service center will not transfer me to a supervisor, they just take messages. I called the corporate office and left messages for their Executive team but no one responds. I can easily say that this is the worst company I have ever done business with. At this point, all I have is a ton of receipts and no air conditioning.

They could not fix the ceiling leak. When they were able to fix it, within weeks it started leaking again. AHS sent people to my home again and showed the pipe to me, which was put in last time. It was leaking, and they said it was my fault. Even though the guy who came to fix it told me quietly, it is not my fault. But the AHS people did not listen. Also, I complained to the CEO of the company in writing but got no response. In addition, they are charging me $95 per call while the rest are charging $55.

Too many of my work hours wasted not to mention my money and pain in dealing with them....

My wife and I bought a home in Dec. '07 that came with a year of coverage by American Home Shield. We called for service on our central heat. We were told that the heating element had a sequencer that was out, and the evaporator coil was 35% restricted. Also the return air was undersized, and the ductwork in the attic was in the way of the service panel. American Home Shield denied service stating that all problems were due to improper install. I've worked in this trade most of my life and know that the sequencer and the dirty coil were due to normal wear and tear. The return air is undersized, and I can correct that myself. The furnace and ductwork are in the attic, and there is limited space there to work in. There is nowhere for the ductwork to be moved to. The service man that diagnosed the problem was probably 6'5 and 300 pounds. An average size man like myself has no problem getting around the ductwork.

When I called to dispute this with American Home Shield they said that they have to go by what the tech. said in his diagnosis, and that all problems are due to improper installation. I called the service company that diagnosed these problems, and they stated that the sequencer on the element and the dirty coil were normal wear and tear and that American Home Shield were notorious for making their own interpretation of diagnosis to fit their own needs, which is obviously denying claims for service. I would advise anyone looking for a home warranty service to carefully study the choices that are available, as I should have done.

This is about the 20th time we've dealt with this company, but to no avail for reasons that are too many to mention. Bottom line is this, they cover items in AND out of the home when they feel like it, and not according to the contract. We have a problem that may be on the outside of the home that they won't cover. At one point they covered a pretty minor EXterior electrical problem we had with our home years ago, which naturally caused us to believe they covered the exterior regardless of what the contract states.

I purchased a house in early 2007, it came with an AHS warranty. In May I phoned and reported that the dishwasher was not washing plates/cups/etc. They eventually had a company come out. It is now Jan 2008 - 9months later and I'm still trying to get the dishwasher repaired under their warranty program! They've sent techs out from various companies over this time frame -- items replaced to date: pump, ball, both wash arms/wands, heating element.

I believe that I contracted meningitis because the dishwasher is not cleaning items properly. Additionally, I have had to take at least 4 vacation days off from work to be present for the tech to diagnose/repair the dishwasher. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! Final straw, the AHS reps would like to know why I don't hand wash everything until they get the dishwasher fixed? I was told that they must have a tech give them a mechanical fault and it must be replaced. Gosh, the tech working for another company now dictates to AHS! How does AHS stay in business?

We bought the home warranty when we settled on our house, we noticed a leak in our ceiling, called AHS, and they sent out a plumber. The plumber alone was hard to set up appointments with, but when they finally came out three days after placing the call they determined it was a leak behind our faucet in our shower and tub. It would take a day to get the parts in, but it would be covered. Two days later we find out that no, it won't be covered because it needs an upgrade so now we are spending $355 on a faucet.

When they come to install it the work order is wrong and they forgot a part, so we could not use the shower but we could use the tub. My husband took a bath and 10 gallons of water came through my ceiling as it turns out the tub had damage no one told us about. AHS has paid for two $40 valves while we have paid $355 and are now looking at thousands for a new tub. We called to ask what exactly was covered, we are calm people, my husband was hung up on and when I called back I was snickered at. The supervisor I spoke with gave me attitude. They are the rudest people I have ever dealt with, I feel cheated and insulted. I would not recommend them at all. it would have been so much easier for us to call a plumber we trusted than to put up with their shenanigans, once you pay for the policy they do not care.

Claim was denied and canceling the contract would incur additional charges - no refund.

I have requested two times to have a different technician sent, but I was told that I would have to pay again. The technician incorrectly diagnoses the problem each time that he comes to visit. Additionally, this technician is very rude, creates a large mess that he refuses to clean up and refuses to interact with women.

I filed a AHS service request for a faulty bathroom exhaust fan that was out of service for a week. It stopped working suddenly. AHS sent a service technician who wanted to collect the service fee before he performed the job. I was suspicious, and I called AHS to find out what happens if the service technician couldn't do the job. The representative assured me that it was the procedure, and if the job is not performed properly and the issue is not addressed they will send another company to fix the problem--and that no service fee will be due for subsequent calls. So I paid the technician with a check for $55. Then he spent five minutes looking at it, said the motor needs to be replaced and will be back to replace it after getting an authorization from AHS. He did a passing comment that it needs to be cleaned once every 4 months or so. And I told him that I clean the dust off of it every couple of months. There is no maintenance that needs to be done on this fan (which is a Nutone exhaust fan according to the installation manual that is published on the web).

Then a few hours later I get a call from AHS stating that they were informed by the electrician that it was a maintenance issue. I was asking how it can be a maintenance issue when you cannot do any maintenance on the motor which is not functioning. They were giving their usual excuses. I demanded that I needed a second opinion and that I was not prepared to pay another service fee. Then as a result they 'denied' the service. After spending more time on the phone they said that they will send another vendor to look at it, and if the second opinion also determines it is a maintenance issue that I should pay the service fee again. The term 'maintenance' is subjective. There is no maintenance procedure in the manufacturer's manual itself. So what maintenance other than simple cleaning (external to the motor) are they talking about? Surely they can't be expecting me to open up the fan motor every few months and clean it, right? Then they would have another reason: Interference, and not normal wear and tear.

I have had enough of them I am going to cancel the membership. By the way, if anyone is interested I have all the conversations with them and contradicting statements of coverage policy on tape. And yes, I disclosed to them that I am recording the conversations. I've lost the cost of AHS membership, service fees, and emotional stress.

On 1/11/08 the water heater started leaking. I called AHS; they sent out a techinician on 1/13/08. Technician said and wrote on estimate that the water heater needed to be replaced. AHS called me on 1/14/08 saying that there were an extra $800 work that needed to be done that was not covered by the policy. This would bring everything up to code. I thought that was kind of weird since the house is only 5 years new. I hired a different contractor out of my own money to look at the water heater because AHS would not send another plumber for a second opinion.

Ends up being that everything is up to code. After this finding, I complained to the plumber (Accurate Plumbing) to reduce their extra cost to $435. I told this to AHS, saying I didn't trust the current contractor, and they didn't care. Their customer service is so rude. I would not recommend AHS to anyone. Their cash-out option is ridiculous.....Almost a week later and the contractor won't start the work, and now I have to go out of pocket to get someone dependable to start any type of work.

Family has been without hot water for almost a week.
