The people they sent were great. I've had no problems since the repair. It's working fine, I can take a shower again. But I would have liked to have been able to schedule service and all that online. It was a bit difficult because I couldn't do it online because they had limited options so I ended up having to call in.
Your feedback is appreciated Beth! We will use it to improve our online service abilities for our customers! Thank you!

My experience with American Home Shield was easy and worry-free. I was able to submit my work order online and the contractor called me within a couple of hours. On the day the contractor was to arrive, my problem went away and I was able to cancel the service call with the same ease and the contractor even called me later to make sure I actually wanted to cancel.
Thank you Juanita for sharing your experience! It is good that the contractor was concerned about whether or not you still needed service after cancelling!

Tried to get a local contractor to replace 'assigned' contractor. Answer - NO. I live in Colorado. Right now the temperature is dropping to zero. My furnace is not working. Your computer assigned a contractor over 50 miles away. I tried to get a local contractor (AHS approved) to be reassigned - NO WAY. The contractor is going to drive on unsafe icy roads to Castle Rock from North Denver. Why? Because the computer assigned him. I tried to get it changed. I call Georgia. Do they care - NO. I tried to call to talk to a supervisor - YOU CAN CALL BACK and wait another 30MIN. This is not only unsafe for the contractor, but totally stupid. Your call staff said I could do this on Sunday. Check your recordings. I can't believe this. What a waste of time to talk with people who could care less if your pipes freeze in COLORADO while they sit in Georgia. Is this what you call customer service. Is this what I paid money for?
We are sorry to hear that your are not pleased with the service contractor. If the contractor is not available to service in your area, then I would be more than happy to have a case manager contact you regarding whether another contractor can be assigned. If the services have already been completed, please reply back to let us know. We would like to make things right!

Called to report hot water problem and noise in master bathroom plumbing issue as well. After 2 weeks and multiple calls to AHS since they didn't have a plumber to cover my needs (they claimed) we finally got a plumber out today. Now they want $770 when they told us the hot water would be covered 100% and our noise they never put on system. When plumber came out we had him look. Now they want us to spend an additional $75 service fee when the plumber found the issue on the first trip and we reported two claims on the "system" they claimed not noted. We asked to speak to a manager and the rep told us they would pull the recorded phone call to see .....So now we are "liars". We just want our home fixed. If everything was working we wouldn't be calling and wasting hours on wait time to speak to a rep that claims we are "liars".
Thank you for bringing this to our attention Brian! We will have a service resolution representative contact you within 24 hours!

A representative called in response to this review and offered to refund the second fee. I am glad they made good on their promise, but it is unfortunate their front line people are not properly trained to solve these problems before they start. As a good faith gesture, I will upgrade my review to 3 stars.

I received a warranty from this company as part of a new home purchase. It was worse than no warranty at all. They repeatedly sent incompetent service providers who failed to diagnose what turned out to be a simple issue. I was assured that a second opinion would not incur a second service fee but was charged anyways. Customer service over this issue was non existent - explaining the issue felt like talking to a wall, as I was met with the same useless script over and over. Even when they actually covered a repair, the total fees ended up being close to what it would have cost without the warranty. They will never get another penny of my money, and I advise they never get a penny of yours.
I would be glad to have someone from our service resolution department research this issue and reach out to you concerning the request. We do not show any out of pocket expenses or extra fees. We apologize for any inconvenience Neal!

The most recent claim we filed was for the garbage disposal. It failed. Filing a claim was very easy. I just go online and do it, fill in the box and make contact to the contractor locally and they call me back real quick. Experience with their contractor was fine, couldn't be better. Unit is now running fine, perfect. American Home Shield is very quick in getting repairs done. They've been satisfactory. They give superior service.

My pool equipment quit working and so the repair company came out. They had the part that they needed. It was kind of an electronic part in the unit that they replaced. They did a good job and took care of it and I would recommend that contractor. They came in and got it taken care of, very courteous and knew what they were doing.
With the contractors that I've had, it has been pretty good trying to file the claim and get responses; it's not very quick and easy particularly online because my recollection was you make a claim and then you don't really know much after that point, so I would say the experience was fair from that perspective.

My HVAC System (air conditioning) stopped working on September 2, 2014. I called American Home Shield; they issued me a Dispatch Number ** indicating Piedmont Mechanical Contractors Inc. (770) 266-4040 would contact me and complete the required repairs. After approximately 9 service calls by Piedmont they repaired a leak in the Freon line, purged the line and filled it with Freon at a cost of $800 plus the customary $75 service call charge to us. The system failed again (2nd time); unfortunately, there was no high voltage power to the outside breaker. This time they sent out Electrical Service Professionals Inc. (770) 760-0011 and solved the issue. Piedmont returns and they replace the compressor unit, charging me an additional $150 to dispose of said unit.
According to Piedmont, "EPA regulations" require it be handled by qualified personnel, hence the $150 charge? They did not charge me an additional $800 to refill the Freon line. The system failed again (3rd time), the compressor unit was "bad". A second compressor unit was ordered and later installed; no additional charges for Freon or disposal of the 1st replaced compressor (EPA perhaps relaxed their standards). On November 18, 2014 the HVAC system fails again (4th time), Piedmont replaces "contractors", system went into bypass mode, reversing valve would not change over. The system was nonfunctional at this point, the representative from Piedmont indicated he's recommending that American Home Shield send out another HVAC contractor for a second opinion!
On November 19th another HVAC company arrives to diagnose the problem with my HVAC system, makes up a parts list and indicates he will call for a second appointment. He returned a second time and indicated he needed additional parts. On December 16, 2014 he returns for the 3rd time prepared to repair the unit. I told him that American Home Shield has dropped the ball on this service repair project. They were first notified on September 2, 2014 and have failed to rectify my issue, nor have they contacted me or offered to replace the HVAC system because it is a "lemon". I told him to call AHS and tell them to replace the unit!! I've spent $975 thus far on repairs, changed my schedule over 12 different times to meet with the various repairman, have been dealing with this issue for almost 4 months and at this point, I just want a new HVAC System installed per their contract and advertisements.

We recently filed a claim for the dryer. It was making noise. Went online, put in for a repair that way, and then the repair place called me the next day to set up an appointment. Dryer is not making that noise anymore. We've been very happy with American Home Shield. We renew it every year.

The water heater was defective and they had to put in a new one. The contractor American Home Shield sent was outstanding. I've had them sent out before (our water heater had been replaced, the same one, eight months before) and the young man they sent out is really fast, efficient, polite, and clean.
The water heater is working fine since the repair. It would be nice however if I could go online and pull up my repair history for everything that's been repaired. I'm trying to get my service call feedback from A.O. Smith because it's their water heater that's defective and I can't seem to ever get hold of anybody or any data that shows whether it was replaced before. Furthermore, if there was a part of the program menu that says "your repair is free" or something like that, I would be very happy.

I contacted AHS on November 22 regarding a non-working water heater in my garage. A contractor contacted me the following day and came out on the 24th to diagnose the problem. He left saying he doesn't have the part to fix the water heater. He'll have to order the part and come back. Never heard from him or AHS again. Therefore, I called AHS on December 3rd to follow-up, but was told they didn't receive any info from the contractor so they will contact him and get back to us.
On December 4th, a new contractor called me and came out on that same day. He had to put in an order for a part. Didn't hear from the contractor or AHS until I called AHS on the 11th. I was made aware that the part will arrive on the 12th and that the water heater will be fixed. The contractor did show up to the house on the 12th with the part, but the water heater still didn't work. He said someone else will come to fix it. On that same day, I received an email from AHS with a new contractor's name and phone number. He called and scheduled a time to come out on the 16th, but didn't come.
A staff from the new contractor's office contacted me to follow-up with the work done on the 16th. I told him that person (technician) never came. All he said was that he will get back to me, but never did. I called AHS on the 18th very frustrated asking if I can get a private contractor of my own to fix the water heater and send them the bill. AHS contacted the contractor and we had a 3-way conversation. The contractor promised to get the work done first thing in the morning on the 19th. AHS said that if it doesn't get fixed, then they will give me a price quote so I can shop around for a private contractor. On the 19th, the contractor come out and tried something else, but still couldn't fix it.
I called AHS after work. The lady on the phone told me she couldn't tell me anything because they have not received any update from the contractor plus it was after work hours, but someone will definitely call me back on Saturday, December 20th. I didn't receive any phone call so I contacted them again asking to speak to a supervisor. I was transferred to one, but reached her voice mail only. I left a message for her to call me back (to this day, I have not heard from her). I called again on Tuesday, the 23rd, to AHS to complain and find out what else I can do because it's been almost a month with no hot water. She said she will submit a complaint regarding this incident to their (?) department to investigate this (have not heard from them either).
I call the contractor at 10:00 AM that same day to follow-up. He told me he is waiting on a part that is on its way right now from Sacramento. He will be out first thing in the morning on the 24th. He promise the water heater will be fixed before Christmas. He never showed. I kept calling his office and leaving messages. I called AHS and was told he is probably closed for Christmas but she will call and leave a message. I asked to be transferred to speak to a supervisor but the phone went silent. I called back to speak to a supervisor, but was put on hold for a long time and then disconnected. Anyone in my situation right now would be upset. It should not take a whole month to fix one problem. If no one knows what they are doing, then why not give me the opportunity to find someone who can?
Updated on: 1/21/2015:
I was given the ok to call a local contractor to come fix my water heater after more than 30 days of AHS's contractors not being able to fix it. I was told to fax in the invoice in order to get reimburse. I faxed in the invoice of $2495 on December 31, 2014. On January 8 and 11 of 2015, I called and left a message for the person whom gave me the authorization in regards to the status of the reimbursement, but she never returned my calls. I got a check of $1007 through the mail on January 12th without any explanation to how that amount was determined.
No wonder none of the contractors were able to fix the water heater because it needed to be replaced. The company that came out to replace the water heater said there was no way the water heater would have worked even with the parts promised by AHS contractors to replace. I found out AHS knew there was a crack in the tank and yet I was not made aware until an AHS supervisor mentioned it. Was AHS preventing the contractors from replacing the water heater? I would like an explanation to how the amount of $1007 was determined? Why was I not made aware of the maximum amount to be reimbursed? If you could have gotten someone to do the work for that amount then why didn't any of your contractors do it?
No one I've contacted would have done the job for $1007. On January 16, 2015, I called AHS to clarify the determination of the $1007. The representative told me there is no one/phone number for me to call. She provided me with a P.O Box and said to write in a letter with my concerns. I would like to know the steps I need to take in order to appeal AHS's decision of the reimbursement amount.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention Nao. I would be happy to have a service resolution representative address your concerns and contact you with resolution. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused. We will also re-evaluate the contractor associated with this work order.

Our oven burner holder wore out causing our burner to hang down, AHS sent Sears out to repair, Sears advised us that they no longer made that part and the stove was unsafe as it was to use. They advised they would notify AHS. I heard nothing so after 2 more days I contacted AHS and told them, they said they were waiting on a report from SEARS before they could take further action. I told them it was a hardship on us having our Gemini stove unplugged and unable to use. More days went with no contact so I called again and surprise no report yet from Sears who I had paid $83.00 to as my contract co-pay but Sears said they had to collect tax so $83, instead of the $75 I was suppose to pay. At any rate I replaced our stove out of our pocket for $1199 since it was a double oven and we wanted another one like that. At that point AHS still had not done anything so I advised them to refund my fee for the service call since there was no report and since AHS refused to replace the stove.
This is after 4 years of pay AHS with nothing out of their pocket. What good is the contract if they don't fix or replace the item? I like feeling protected, but it was an illusion and a waste of money. I hated giving them a second chance after a similar incident with a water heater that started leaking. I went back with them even after that because we did get something toward the water heater replacement but it was 3 years later after a class action lawsuit. I should have learned my lesson then. I am a disabled vet on a fixed income and thought this would protect my budget, right?!!!!
We are sorry that we were not able to resolve your appliance issue before you cancelled your warranty. The issue could have been escalated for us to research the diagnosis since the contractor did not turn in his report. We could have replaced the oven or offered reimbursement, however I do show that the service fee was processed for reimbursement as you requested and you should have received the check by now. Your feedback is appreciated and we will use it to re-evaluate our business with SEARS!

My hot water heater went out almost two weeks ago. Called AHS as I was suppose to do. Technician came out to look at it. New hot water heater required. "Ordered" by AHS. Wrong part. Offered a cash in lieu settlement that would not cover the full costs of the new hot water heater. Declined and asked them to expedite. Told it was the holidays and could not do so. Told them that all last week was not a holiday and that I hoped they enjoyed their Christmas with hot water as mine would be without hot water. Then told by the rep that payment would be capped because my heating system is tied to the hot water heater. Nothing wrong with the heating system, just need a new hot water tank. What a scam. AHS never seems to have an issue accepting my monthly premiums on the multiple properties that I have covered with them. They do seem to have a problem doing what they are supposed to do when a problem arises. Avoid these guys like the plague.

AHS will make you think they are really working this thing but they don't follow up with repairmen and rely on them to communicate with them. I wish I had 1/2 the money the warranty cost for a year to buy a new dishwasher and hire a real installation instead of this back-door deal AHS has with this "fix-it" guy.

We have called AHS for two problems since purchasing our house in July 2014. Most of the contractors AHS sends in our area seem to be of very poor quality, and I am on the way to feeling they are simply trying to "get your $75 and run". We had a plumbing problem in August. The first contractor AHS sent out told us our entire basement floor needed to be ripped up and the pipes replaced, for thousands of dollars. (Of course, conveniently not covered by the warranty). I didn't agree with him, so we asked AHS to send out a second contractor.
The second plumber came, and he easily fixed what the other plumber said was a major problem, and within our warranty coverage! I was a little irritated I had paid the $75 fee two times, especially when the first plumber was trying to rip us off. AHS said they would send us a gift card to reimburse us for this. Well, that "promised gift card" was never received. This weekend, we had an electrical problem. The electrician came out, poked around for a little bit, and said, “He had no idea what the problem was.” He then said it was possible something was going on in the attic, but he "didn't want to go up there".
We still had to pay the $75 fee for no service!! I called AHS to complain, and they said they would "make a note in the file". That doesn't really help me out much. I later got a call from AHS with the electrician's report. He completely lied to AHS about what the problem was, which I told the woman who called me. She didn't care, and just told me that's what he said. I will never again call AHS to fix anything because almost everything so far had been a waste of time off of work and money.
We would be glad to have a case manager take a closer look at this service issue. I will have someone contact you Ashley to assist with resolving this matter. We hate to hear about the plumbing issue and will have that discussed as well! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope to improve our list of service contractors in your area!

Horrible customer service... HORRIBLE! I have used my contract twice with them now. Contractors themselves are great, which makes sense because they are not employed by AHS. Recently both my washer and dryer needed to be fixed. Guy comes out, I pay him my deductible and nothing is fixed on the washer and dryer. Going to take 10 business days to order parts. Then I will need to wait an additional week to schedule another appointment (first appointment took a week to scheduled, 24 hours as advertised is CLEARLY NOT ACCURATE). From there he said he MIGHT be able to fix the washer but it needs to be rebuilt so it's likely he will need more parts or won't even be able to get it apart in the first place.
The contractor called AHS to give them the information about the washer. The AHS rep was on speakerphone. She as being extremely rude to the contractor, asking him how he is supposed to know that all the repairs need to be done. The contractor handled it well considering she was insulting his 21 years of experience. He just told her that based on his experience he knows what needs to be done. Well she couldn't take the info about the dryer so he had to call back. The next AHS rep was extremely rude to him as well, I asked, was that the same girl, he told me no.
I have talked to 4 AHS reps over the phone, 3 out of the 4 were exceptionally rude, did not listen to what I was saying, they were only thinking about what they wanted to say next. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE... DO NOT GET A WARRANTY WITH THEM!!! It is estimated that I will be without a washer and dryer for 1-2 months... I can't even comprehend how that is 'solving my problem.'
We apologize for the inconvenience. I have forward your feedback to have the representatives that discussed this work order with the technician evaluated. We have offered options for these repairs, as the cost is very low to repair both appliances. You can reach our purchasing department to discuss the available options, so that you do not have to wait for parts. We hope this matter can be resolved quickly to prevent any further delays.

AHS states they will pay up to $250.00 to bring items up to code... not true. I had a water heater replaced and the plumber assigned by AHS charged me an additional $245.00 for unnecessary items. My friend is a building inspector, familiar with the house, and said none of the upgrades were necessary. Everything was already up to code. I was charged $105.00 for a permit but Union Plumbing has refused to send me a copy. When I called AHS to complain, all I was told was they would not send Union Plumbing to my address again. They won't because I am dropping their policy.
We hate to hear about this experience with your water heater request. I would be glad to have someone contact the company regarding where you can get a copy of the permit. Unfortunately, we do not handle permits or deal with the paperwork, so the contractor would need to cooperate and assist you with getting this. We will re-evaluate the contractor based on your complaint regarding their retail pricing and what we were advised was needed to complete the install. As a plumbing contractor, we expect them to be familiar with any building and install codes required, so if this contractor was inaccurate we will have them contacted by our contractor relations department. Your feedback is appreciate and we look forward to improving our list of service contractors in your area.

This process began with AHS on October 5, 2014, and now more than 60 days later AHS wants to haggle about the price of a replacement refrigerator that is comparable to what we had, and say that we would have to pay the excess of over 500 dollars. We should be compensated for the more than 60 days that we have been inconvenienced, lost food twice after the contractors employed by AHS came and said that they had solved the problem. AHS' response was, we don't pay for food. In spite of the various documented excuses that we were told by AHS representatives such as "We will see if we can provide a mini refrigerator until yours is repaired" never happened and to date we are still without a refrigerator.
AHS has continued to collect monthly premiums for the service, yet we have not received the service that we contracted for. We have had this service for 12 years and never really used it for anything substantial until now, and despite the inconvenience allotted us by the contractors in AHS's employ, AHS is still trying to give us the short end by offering us a less than substantial appliance that is not comparable to what we had. Based on our current experience, I would not recommend AHS.
We apologize if you are not happy with the options offered to replace your refrigerator. If you have the model number, please share it with the purchasing department so that they can ensure the offer is comparable to what you have already. Otherwise, you have the option of taking the cash out to put the money towards a replacement of your choosing. The issue has been escalated already and the representative assisted with getting this refrigerator replaced. We hope you can get this resolved with our purchasing department as soon as possible.

We contacted AHS on December 6th (it's the 22nd as I write this) for service on what appears to be a plumbing blockage. A plumber came out within 24 hours as advertised, did some digging around, and confirmed that we had a problem (the stench of sewage filling our house was a good clue). He said he couldn't do anything about the issue until we got the standing water out from under the house and gave us a card for Dry Force. We called and made an appointment with them. When they came out, they said the standing water wasn't enough to need their services and that I could take care of it myself with some bleach and a shop vac. So we called the plumber back, repeatedly, and never got an answer. Another call to AHS. They also couldn't reach the plumber. So they had another plumber contact us and set an appointment for the next day between 1 and 6. I left work early and spent the early part of the afternoon bleaching and removing standing water from under the house in anticipation that this would be the time a plumber actually worked on the problem. Plumber finally showed up at 7. Said he'd been told to give a second opinion and that he would call in a diagnosis to AHS. Again, no work was done.
Two days later, having heard nothing from either a plumber or AHS, we phoned AHS and were told that the plumber never called to make a diagnosis. On contacting the plumber, he claims he did. So today, a third plumber called to inform us that he will be coming out tomorrow between 9 and noon. I just got off the phone with AHS customer service after asking them to let me hire my own plumber and reimburse me for it (the answer was “No.”) and to speak to customer relations (“We will have to get them to call you back within 24 hours.”) and to speak to a supervisor (there are none available). I expressed to the agent that we have been unable to do laundry at home for two weeks, that if we use any amount of water the house fills with sewer gas, and that we expect family visits for Christmas. I need this resolved today. I feel that 16 days is entirely too long to be given this kind of run around. It almost seems that AHS operates on the principle of being happy to take my money, but reluctant to provide service for it. Pretty annoying.
I would be more than happy to have someone contact you to resolve this matter. We understand you have had multiple contractors, when it really should have only taken one. We apologize for the experience you are having.

This company's contract is vague so you HAVE to call their Service Rep having faith they are providing you right information. Nope, they confidently tell you something is covered to be shocked when you have to pay out of pocket. Careful, they will give you the run around (reps and managers who promise to call you back and don't) until you are at your wits' end trying to get your $140 back (in addition to the $75 service fee) so you file with the BBB. This company does not stand by their word. Their phone calls are recorded, for what? Not my benefit and not yours either because they still have a Service Rep telling wrong information. If they listened to my phone call on 11/12/14 they would rightfully stand by their customer and do the right thing.
Laura we are sorry that you had this experience and your service fee is already being reimbursed. We apologize for the confusion about coverage and value your feedback. We will use it to improve services!

My washing machine broke on December 3rd. A contractor was sent to my home to "fix" the machine. He barely spoke English and concluded he needed to order parts which take 3-5 days. He came a 2nd time (3 days later), he ordered the wrong part and said he needed to order another part which would take another 3-5 days. He came back a 3rd time, still did not fix the machine and said he needed to order more parts which is, of course, another 3-5 day wait. The 4th time they sent a new tech to our house. He had not spoken to the man who had been there the previous 3 times and said he needed to order another part. However, this man (also did not speak much English) refused to speak to me because I am a WOMAN. Only wanted to talk to my husband.
After calling AHS multiple times I have a "special" person assigned to my case. I thought that would be a good thing. What it actually means is that no one else can help me. So now it is Christmas and I have 15 people coming to my house and my customer service representative is out for the holidays. Instead of being able to speak with anyone, I can go pound sand while Tamara enjoys her holiday and her clean clothes. No one at AHS will help me. I should have kept my $900 and bought a new washer with it. Only buy an AHS warranty if you want help losing your mind and your money. Oh, and in being fair they did credit me my $60 dollar service fee so on the next repair I can enjoy savings because God forbid they actually give me the money back. It's just credited towards my next miserable experience with them. Mark Barry should be ashamed of the company he runs. AHS is a miserable waste of money.
We hate to hear about this inconvenience with you washer request Karen. I have forward this complaint to the researcher to follow up. We look forward to resolving this issue and will see what other options are available. You should get a callback today.

We have been with AHS for 3 years and have had repairs such as a shower stem, leaking toilet, a fuse blowing furnace. I realize that when we called AHS to replace the 20 year old water heater we would have to pay out of pocket or some of the updates in the city codes and the like. What I did not expect was to pay significantly more than what our local Home Depot charged. I had to wait 48 hours for repair service - when they did show the contracted plumbers did a decent job of installing the water heater (no complaints there) however, after AHS okayed the repair the plumber told me we had to pay $500 more for 3 valves. He said that they break in the removal of the unit and it is not covered in the plan. I knew that either way he would break those valves so we paid for them but this was my first inkling something was not right with the price.
All said and done along with the AHS (I do not know to this day what they paid) but we paid $1865 to the plumber for a 50 gallon water heater with modifications and updates to meet code. I would have paid $1100 for Home Depot to do it but we have the AHS Home Warranty so we certainly did not think that this repair would be that expensive. I filed a complaint with AHS and in the past 2 months no one has called me back. Furthermore I still don't have the permit for the city from the Plumbing company. I have called AHS and they tell me they have put the paperwork in to their unit for investigation of this matter but again no one has called me or written to us nor emailed anything in regards to this matter.
We are sorry to hear that you were not pleased with the water heater request. We do appreciate your loyalty as a customer and will reach out to the contractor as permits or code documents come from them. For future reference, if you are concerned with the contractor, as a customer you always have the option of taking a cash in lieu and getting your own licensed contractor to complete the work needed. You do not have to go with the contractor sent out if you do not feel comfortable or if their retail pricing is rather high in your opinion. We will look into the contractor on your service request and re-evaluate their business with our warranty as we only want to use contractors we can trust and rely on to take care of our customers.

We had a leak in one of our water lines, submitted the claim to American Home Shield on the phone, scheduled an appointment, and they were out in 2 days (If we look at the schedule it was around Thanksgiving so we understood that.) They're good people. They've always been good. As a matter of fact we had the furnace to be fixed and cleaned and checked, which the American Home Shield doesn't cover, and we called the guy who previously did it because he's that good!
Overall, I would recommend American Home Shield. I usually don't recommend any product to anybody because you can lose a friend lol but I would recommend them. However I'd like American Home Shield to do more things and add more things. They don't do faucets with leak. I'd like to see that because as our house gets older a lot of faucets leak. They don't cover that. I'd like to see them cover more even if they cost a couple of dollars more I'd be willing to pay it.
Your feedback is valued Henry! Whenever I've had a claim with American Home Shield, it's been very simple to report and I've gotten prompt responses so I have no issues whatsoever. We had some sort of a plumbing issue. We had a stoppage issue from the main bathroom which is right next to the wall where the plumbing lines come in. There was a blockage there which was opened up. It was just a simple stoppage issue and they got it running and that was that. The contractors they sent have always been very good. In every instance, the people have shown up right away and have been very professional and taking care of things just fine. We have no unhappy instances or anything. They work.
We had one ceiling fan. It was in an old one and we thought it might not be salvageable but they were able to fix the electrical things inside and everything worked just fine. Since they've done it we haven't had many claims. Thank heavens but everything has been just fine and we continue to renew. I've had no difficulty, they're reachable 24/7 which is one thing I like and always whatever we've had, usually, they are there the next day. We're contacted bright and early by the contractor who shows up so you don't have to wait. I've been very pleased. My experience with American Home Shield has been perfectly satisfactory – excellent. Our son also has American Home Shield because we have it and he has had a few problems and they've always been well taken care of with him too.

If you're looking for a company with great customer service, this is not the one. I used their automated system to file a service claim for an appliance and they typically send the same vendor as previously which we like because you know who is working in your home. However, this time it went to an appliance company that we were not familiar with so I called customer service to request another one of their vendors that we are comfortable with in our home. I was told that because we used the automated system that we could not request a different vendor so I asked the representative to cancel the order. The representative then told me that she would be unable to place another request for me with our preferred vendor and that if I called back to talk to another representative that they would only be able to open the previous work order with the vendor previously selected by their automated system. This is not the customer service that we thought we would be receiving. Out of all the representatives that we have talked to over the year, we have only had a couple people that provided a high level of service - sad but true. Good luck with your experience!

We had a problem with our dishwasher and it just started making noise. We've had it for about 8 or 9 years and started making noise and so I went online and filled out a report on American Home Shield and then I received an acknowledgement and got a call and within a day, the person came out and diagnosed the problem. It was a motor so they replaced the motor and it works like brand new. Our experience with their contractor was good. He was professional, clean and identified himself and I showed him where it was and get right to work and diagnosed the problem right away and went out to his truck, got the new part and came in and proceeded to work. He also cleaned up after himself like he was never there.
I've had nothing but great things to say about AHS. I've had some other issues and they've always come out or the representative comes out, identify the problem and fix the issues. I also purchased the plan from my mom and she still lives in our house down in Dallas. If you do business with AHS be prepared for the big run around on all requests. The contractor fee goes up every year, this is the check you write to the person who comes to fix your item. Then be prepared to have the contractor tell you that you also need something else to bring it up to code..not covered. In my case I had a water heater replaced six years ago by AHS. I paid $75 out of pocket plus another $75 for earthquake bands to hold the water heater. Fair enough. Only problem is I called in another water heater repair for same unit due to pilot light outage. For some reason they tell me this relatively new water heater needs to be replaced. Ok fine, but also for $350 more they want the drain pan replaced again and the earthquake straps too!! They are brand new and designed to be opened to replace the water heater. AHS is a typical insurance company out to scam consumers. I have spoken to management multiple times and am trying to get the repair done after waiting six days.
Scott thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. Paying anything other than the service fee is not to be expected. I called back AHS to see about getting a pre authorization to use another contractor that I contacted myself, that had the parts in stock. I was told I needed to speak to a supervisor, I explained that I have an 82 year old senior citizen (my dad) living with me. I was told I would receive a call back. 4 hours later, no call back, interior home temp (49 degrees). I decide to have my contractor do the work. I called AHS to find out about how to submit my bill. I was told that without pre authorization, there will be no way to be reimbursed, and then I was informed that it takes 24 to 48 hours to have a supervisor respond. I should have been informed of that fact when I asked to get a call back. A complete waste of my time and money. I was met with rudeness and no compassion. We discovered, with the help of our pool company, that there was a problem with our pool heater. We reported the problem to American Home Shield. They sent out "their" chosen repair person. He told American Home Shield that a sprinkler head was the cause of our problem. We were denied help from American Home Shield. We asked for a second opinion because that section of the sprinkler system is not even turned on nor did the repair man ask or prove that it was turned on. We were told that there was not another company that could come and give a second opinion nor could they take any information from the reputable pool company that we use.
There were things noted on the report that were not accurate because their repairman is not up to date on the equipment. He claimed we didn't have a part that we indeed have but it's the latest version of the part so what the repairman claims is not there, is actually hidden inside the new part. Hence, the repairman is not knowledgeable enough to be diagnosing problems and keeping paying customers from getting any help from this insurance company. Our pool company wrote a letter explaining the problem and was willing to speak with anyone from American Home Shield about the situation but were denied that opportunity. The fact that American Home Shield chooses their repair companies and sends incompetent repairmen is very frustrating since this is the company we unfortunately chose when buying our new home.
Beware of all the fine print, "normal wear and tear" and don't count on getting a fair diagnosis or a second opinion. AHS will find a reason to say that it's not "normal wear and tear" and not repair your equipment. I would never recommend this company to anyone. When the large things break you are on your own even when you buy the extra protection.
Kathy we would like to look into this concern further. We do not have another pool contractor in this area, so I will have a service resolution specialist reach out to you to discuss this further. We do rely on the contractor's diagnosis but if you have a dispute, normally it is best to contact our disputes department who can assist.

Definitely happy with AHS. I called in a plumbing stoppage to AHS a month after moving in. They dispatched one of their vendors, who came to the house and said he couldn't find the stoppage, his opinion was it was outside the house on the way to the sewer main. He said he would call in to AHS to authorize a further inspection and get back to me. He never did, but AHS then sent a letter saying the claim was denied as it was outside the home. I called another plumber and on my dime he camera'ed the pipes and found the stoppage inside the home, in the lines under the concrete, not the sewer main going out. The original AHS vendor never checked these locations.
I called AHS again to call a plumber out but was told it had to be the same plumber or I would pay the service fee again. Fine, they dispatched the same plumber only this time they never showed. They made an appointment several days out (I was having water coming back up into the utility sink already) then never arrived. I left two messages, no response. This was the end of the week of course. Then Saturday complete back up, flooding in my lower floor.
I called Carter again, no response, then called a plumber for an emergency repair that day. He was fast and efficient and made a permanent fix that I doubt the other company would have, but I had to pay it out of my own pocket. Long story short, I submitted the invoices to AHS and they are reimbursing me without argument for the repair costs, up the extent of my warranty coverage. Wow impressed! Thank you, Delphine.

Now gas has been off for almost 3 weeks, no Heat and no hot water. The best part :-/ I just had Surgery last week. Nothing that is nothing has been done because conflicts and we are in the middle. We pay for many years without fault and when we needed AHS the most, they show no concern, only over the phone noise. Very Sad and Upsetting :'-( Has anyone had issues with AHS?

Last year I had a problem with my furnace and contacted AHS for repairs. The contractor came out and said that he'd have to order the part. Unfortunately I wound up without heat during the record low temperatures in Atlanta last year. It was miserable. Despite using space heaters the temperature still got below freezing (the water in my dog's water bowl actually froze). I was not at all pleased about the delay but AHS and the contractor assured me that they were doing everything possible to get that part ASAP. The problem according to the contractor is that I have a Trane furnace and that Trane requires that parts come directly from them. After five days of miserable cold the furnace was fixed and I hoped that I would never deal with that again.
This year - remembering how miserable I was last year - I tested the furnace in October and once again the furnace would not start. On October 7th I sent a request to AHS to have the furnace repaired. Since then I have had contractors come to my house three times (and the gas company once). I was once again told that part of the delay was waiting for a part that only Trane could provide, only to be told by the next contractor that the replaced part was "generic" and not from Trane. I've spoken with AHS several times but nothing seems to make a difference. Two days ago I was promised by AHS that my case has now been escalated and that a special team would now be in touch with me daily to ensure that this furnace is finally fixed. I've not heard back from AHS since.
Living like this has now affected my health. On Friday I had to go to the doctor for x-rays and prescriptions for pneumonia. Still no heat. If you read through the many complaints on here you will notice that my situation is not unusual. At this point I assume that I have no option but to hire a contractor directly and also assume that whatever is wrong with my furnace, it must be serious and that's why the contractors and AHS have been either unable or unwilling to fix it. Does AHS do this deliberately? Or do they just have no idea what is going on? Or what? In any event, you will not know if AHS will take care of your problem until you have a problem - and when that happens, if the repair is a necessary one (like having heat!) then you are out of luck.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention Drew! We would like to make things right and I will have a case manager follow up with this delay in service! This is not the norm and we will evaluate the contractor associated with the previous repairs. Someone will contact you today Drew for resolution!

He spent more time on the phone in his truck than he did working on anything. He comes back inside and tells me that AHS wants to talk to me. Basically said that he couldn't get to where he needed to from the ground level and that he would have to get on the roof. Well AHS said they didn't cover that, it was considered a risk. He said it would be $250 out of pocket for him to do it! My husband came home and went to Home Depot to get the tool to do it! Thank God it worked and he didn't have to do it from the roof! My husband was furious. I basically gave him $75 for nothing! He's calling about a refund first thing Monday.

We have been with AHS for many years, we lived in Maryland and had no problems. We moved to South Carolina 7 years ago and went with AHS again. We have had nothing but problems! Our fridge/ freezer went out and it was 3 weeks before it was fixed, the A/C unit went out 2 times and each time it was weeks before it was fixed, electrical problem in our fuse box took weeks, and now our dryer has been broke for over a month. My husband put in a service order and three days later no one had called, then told my husband they were assigning to another company still no call. The third company finally called and a week later came to our house, did a self test on the dryer, said it was the vent and gave us a number to call. The technician did not charge a service fee, he said he didn't do anything, and left after only a few minutes at our home.
The dryer vent person came, nothing clogging the vent, the dryer is indeed broke. Called AHS and they refused to send another repair person without documentation from dryer vent company. Faxed it to them and did not hear anything from them. My husband called, was told the dryer repairman said we did not pay service fee and charged AHS service fee. My husband told them what the technician said and AHS didn't care. My husband paid the service fee and was told the same company would be coming, the same company that fraudulently told AHS that we didn't pay them. They refuse to send another company so we are being forced to use a dishonest company for our repair. I will be telling everyone I know to not use AHS. There are a lot of other warranty companies to choose from with better reviews and hopefully better customer service. We, the consumer, keeps AHS in business and I think they have forgotten that. The best form of advertising is word of mouth and I will be telling everyone I know about our 7 years of bad service.
Andrea thank you for bringing this to our attention. I will have a case manager follow up with this request and if there is another vendor in this area, we would like to send out another contractor. The case manager will contact you to make sure your appointment is scheduled. We would like to make things right and will be glad to look into the contractors that you have had a bad experience with.

American Home Shield is very reliable in showing up and the quality of their work is good. However, they employ new immigrants who speak very little English, which I can usually understand but these people have just come to the country and are trying to make business for themselves and almost consistently find a way to have you try to spend more money. The quality of their work is good and they're reliable but sometimes exaggerate as to what needs to be done, unless you know what the deal is. Sometimes they lie about the nature of the problem. But 80% of the time they’re fine.

AHS sent a contractor who took a walk in the house and then recommended that the leak is because of higher water pressure on city side and I need to put a pressure regulator. My question is I have been living in this house for 6 years did not have pressure regulator before. Got similar leaks fixed by AHS before under the same warranty. What did suddenly change that they are finding the issue with the Water pressure now. It seems like a tactic to make the customer get the issue fixed themselves. I’m fairly pleased with American Home Shield. I used the service for two rental properties to help maintain for appliances, plumbing and everything it covers. Usually the service is good but recently they moved to a different provider for plumbing which is fine except they’re a little slower in terms of getting service, particularly for the city I live in, which is a little bit smaller community. The prior arrangement was they’re using local vendors within the city. I’m disappointed with American Home Shield because I made an online request and I presumed that they would call the vendor as they have done in the past and the vendor would call me. I emailed and didn’t get a reply back so I called and finally had the process going. I’m paying 50-60 bucks on each property and $75 fee but I don’t get the response I need. Other than that, I like the fact that I don’t have to go fix something myself or find someone or get my husband involved, especially on rental properties. I’m not happy but I’d still recommend them. The websites had gotten better. I like talking to a live person on the phone and those people are very helpful.

He said the well pump was the most likely problem and he would get back to me with a quote, but all costs may not be covered by the warranty. 3 weeks later I finally had the quote. By then I had another plumber come out to tell me the well pump is the likely cause. I would like the work done by my contractor because I do not feel comfortable with the contractor they sent out. American Home Shield will not authorize this. I have been paying for well coverage since I purchased my home in 2009. Every time you call AHS someone tells you something different. If the repair was not so costly I would cancel this policy and absorb the cost myself. I am just fed up with this company and their choice in contractors.

I am writing you today to inform you of how dissatisfied I am with the handling of my previous complaint. I am a returning customer but unfortunately I will not be renewing after my policy expires. I had my air conditioning package unit replaced through the warranty program this year. The process started on May 13th 2014. I called the request service number and was assigned Jackson Mechanical as a contractor. After the email was sent out I did some reviewing of the contractor and found multiple complaints for them on creditable websites. I quickly called back and asked to be assigned another contractor, but I was informed that they were the only ones in the area which I found strange considering the population of the Little Rock Metro. I decided to give them a chance and they showed up at the agreed upon time. They quickly dismissed my information about the evaporator leaking for a loose cap and refilled the system and took my $75 dollars and left.
Two weeks later I was back on the phone with AHS explaining that the recharge did not resolve the issue as the unit was not cooling again and the refrigerant had leaked back out. They show up again and attempt to patch the evaporator with a torch; this did not work as well. So they inform me that the parts are going to be ordered and leave. The next month goes by with no Air Conditioning and the Arkansas Summer raging on. The humidity in the house ruins artwork but there is no new information for AHS or Jackson Mechanical.
Five Weeks later I get an email saying that the parts have been ordered and I will hear from Jackson soon. They inform me that the evaporator coil was damaged during shipping and a new one would be ordered. Another week goes by and I get another email from AHS stating once again that the parts had been ordered. Two days later I get another call saying that the evaporator coil was back ordered with no estimated in stock date. On July 1st I get an email from AHS stating that the parts had been ordered to fix the Air Conditioner. They wisely decided to replace the entire unit with a new unit. I was more than exhausted from the waiting and back and forth but was excited to put it behind me.
The new unit shows up and Jackson installed it. System was up and running and everything was great, or so I thought. After returning from my honeymoon, it was now fall, I was prepping from winter. I was outside and noticed the package unit did not have its gas supply line hooked up. The supply line was capped underneath the house and was never run completely. So I placed a call to AHS on October 30th and informed them of my findings. I also called Jackson Mechanical directly and nobody answered or returned my message. The employee from AHS said that he would contact Jackson Mechanical and see what was happening. I didn't hear back from either one and called AHS on the November 3rd to see what was going on. They informed me that they did not receive a call back from Jackson Mechanical and were still waiting. I called back the following day and received the same excuse but was told it had been elevated to the contractor relations department.
Four days later and no communication from either party, I call again on the 10th. This time I asked for AHS to send out another contractor and I would pay the $75 fee to get the heater turned on before the winter weather moved in. AHS told me that they could not send out another contractor until the previous one had contacted them and gave them the reason for not hooking up the gas line. On that day I realized I was not as valuable to you as a paying customer as your shady contractors were. I hired a local contractor to run the gas line from the crawlspace to the Package Unit on November 11th. On November 13th the high temperature in Little Rock was 38 degrees with a low of 27, safe to say that winter weather was arriving and I was still without heat. So the heater is working after I paid the contractor and things are back to normal besides the fact the AHS has not followed up with me about my problem.
Three weeks go by and I am curious as to what happened and I call AHS. They tell me that the contractor finally responded to them and told them that they tried to contact me but I did not answer and my phone was not accepting voicemails. I have Jackson Mechanical's phone number stored and would not have missed it or if I did I would have for sure called them back. Also my phones voicemail was always functioning and never full; I have AT&T phone records to prove it. So in the end you have AHS siding with a shady contractor, leaving a paying customer in the freezing cold, and not informing the customer on anything.
I always had to contact AHS and was never reached out to by either company. I had a bad feeling from the start with Jackson Mechanical and I was not wrong, nor were the countless other reviews from jaded customers. So I hope that if you get anything from this letter is that you should put your customers first and not side with the contractors you hire, but side with the people who pay the premiums. I feel humiliated by AHS for believing they would do the right thing and help their customers out. I feel humiliated for letting my family suffer those freezing nights because a home protection company failed to provide the protection they promised. You should feel ashamed for standing by a contractor that has multiple reports of poor customer service.

He said the part I needed was no longer made and he would have to pull the part and have it refurbished. He pulled the part "hot wired" my cook top so the burners would work and left. 11/25 the part arrived. 11/26 a new tech came out started to installing the part then ask me, "Why did he pull your board? (As if I knew) The problem isn't your board, it's your touch pad," then proceeded to take the part out. He says "Let me send everything out and get the right piece repaired. It will take 10-14 days and just to let you know the oven or cook top won't work while it's disconnected." The day before Thanksgiving mind you. I WAS FURIOUS. I told him I had to cook, just leave it and I would have it repaired correctly after Thanksgiving.
I called Sears to find out how this could have happened naturally. No one knew and honestly I don't think they really cared. 12/3 next appt to come re-pull correct parts for repair. Tech called me on the way to my home. I ask him what was the turn around time. He said around 20 days being that it was two parts being replaced so which possibly meant NO oven for Christmas. I called Sears & AHS and ask what am I suppose to do with no way to cook. For a family of 5 for possible 20 days the answer AHS - "Ma'am that's not our concern." Sears - "We'll give you a $50 gift card after your oven's repaired". The customer service reps were uncaring, impatient and unknowledgeable, just down right useless. I can't tell you the amount of calls I have placed to both of these companies only to get a different answer with each call. I think their tactic is to frustrate you and wear you down so badly until you just give up because that's what I've just done given up. I'll keep my broken oven and they can keep their warranty.

I wanted to report that I have similar issues with AHS not resolving home maintenance issues in a timely manner in the Tampa FL area. The issue started around prior to the week of Thanksgiving and I had a fridge repair and scheduled a service call with AHS. The technician showed up for repair and promptly charged me for the deductible of $75 dollars. He mentioned that he will come back in day or two to replace the parts. After this, he did not come back to do the repairs and complete the problem.
I had called to reach him number of times with no response. I called AHS and the AHS representative tried to reach him and there was no response. I asked if AHS can send another technician and they said that was not possible and referred me to their "Customer Relations Department". All the while, my rental residence had a broken fridge through the Thanksgiving holidays. This is my tenant so did not want her to be without a fridge during the holidays.
I finally gave up reaching or resolving through AHS and ordered a new fridge. The customer relations called me a few days and said they will resolve this issue by reimbursing me for a portion of the repair cost they would have paid the technician. The issue started around Nov 20th and still not resolved. The Customer Relations Department called me and asked me to email the Lowe's invoice which I did. I had to call the Customer Relationship Department twice to reach the person and now I am trying to resolve this with the AHS Customer Relationship Department.
At the end of the day, it's been days trying to get the appliance fixed and when appliances are broken I do not think customers can wait for days trying to call AHS and their technicians and following up. The reason why people buy AHS insurance is for peace of mind and I do not think it has far from a "peace of mind" experience. In the past, I have used AHS in the Jacksonville area for my residence and it has been a good experience so I am hoping that this is a one of experience. I also hope that in future, I do not have to go and buy a new appliance while waiting for AHS or their technicians to resolve the issue.

When the plumbers got to the house they went and inspected the sinks and determined that one of the sinks needed a new stopper and did not have an answer for the other sinks. They ordered the stopper and returned to fix it. When they did they replaced a "pop-up assembly" with a "strainer", which is typically found in commercial buildings.
I was shocked because we have two sinks side by side and they now had completely different "stoppers", because one is not even a stopper. When I asked why they put that in rather than replace it with a stopper, they said that American Home Shield had denied the repair and that was all that they would cover. I then called AHS to see why this was and they had no record of denying any claim or even having a request. They then called Bacon Plumbing and had them come out to replace the strainer they installed with the proper stopper, which was the right thing. The only problem is that it had now been two weeks and we still had a leak!
We had no answer from Bacon Plumbing aside from they thought it could be high water pressure, but they weren't sure. At this point AHS decided to send out a second company to look at it. When the plumber arrives I told him about the Bacon Plumbing fiasco and the high water hypothesis and he explains that he used to work at Bacon Plumbing and that they are "a bunch of crooks" (no wonder they have 2 stars on yelp). He then checks the sinks and explains that the faucets are broken and the reason we have the leaks, say he'll probably have to special order them and leaves.
A few days later I receive a call explaining that our claim is being denied by AHS due to high water pressure being the cause of the leaks. AHS also mentions that a pressure reading was taken and it read 92 psi. This was shocking and extremely disappointing, as I was present the entire time each of the two companies came to my house and neither of them performed a pressure test. At this point I called my home insurance and asked if they could send a plumbing company out to test the water pressure. American Leak Detection came out and evaluated all of the sinks and performed a water pressure test, which I video taped (photo attached) 50 psi. The conclusion of what was causing the leak: broken faucets.
When I called American Home Shield to explain what had happened and have them come back and replace the faucets, which is the RIGHT THING TO DO, seeing as this is what we have been paying a home warranty for along with the $100 service fee to have someone come out. Their response, "We had two technicians come out and determine the same issue and are denying coverage." My next step is that I will be calling the State Attorney General to discuss the particular facts, State Insurance Agency, and then the BBB. Lastly if they don't take care of what they are contractually obligated to take care of I will see AHS in Small Claims Court.
Seems as if there is some confusion regarding the diagnosis we were given and what was advised to you by the contractors. I would like to have a case manager contact you today regarding this plumbing service request.

Earlier this year, I had problems with our refrigerator, and after many, many service calls, and many heated phone conversations back and forth with AHS, I eventually got them to replace it. (Albeit I paid out of pocket for a better model, it took well over three weeks just to get them to adjust the payout amount to something relatively comparable.) Now, I'm dealing with them over a ceiling fan. An $800 Casablanca ceiling fan. Over a service call that was opened back on June 30th.
The first contractor to come out failed to repair and said they'd schedule a follow up after letting AHS know the status. (Come to find out, they told AHS that the fan blades were broken off, when in fact it is just a loose flywheel.) The same contractor returned. This time saying that the flywheel needed to be replaced and that this would take upwards of 3 weeks for them to acquire the part. Obviously, I'm going to wait for the part to arrive.
Roughly a month later they show up and say they're here to repair the fan, but didn't bring any parts. Instead of being here to repair the fan, they were apparently here to dismantle it and take it back to their shop so that they could finish the repairs. Fine, whatever, I just want it fixed. Three weeks later? Nothing. They show up with my fan in a box and say that repairs are done and they're here to reinstall it! Huzzah!
Fat chance. They've completely removed the flywheel from the ceiling fan now, and it's nowhere to be found. The contractor states that they must have forgotten to put it back on and it's still at the shop. Promises to call back as soon as he gets to the shop to find it. Next day I call and they state that the fan needs a replacement flywheel. Here we are in December. My fan was finally returned to me about 2 weeks ago, still missing the flywheel. I've called into AHS at least twice a week since that time, requesting that they get the flywheel returned to me. I've spoken to Bernice, Kara, Delphine (only names I've written down) and every single time I'm being fed different lines and excuses.
Today though, today was the worst. Delphine calls me and starts with a tone of how she's going to be helpful and instead interrogates me about the fan and the status and what's going on. She immediately states that in none of my previous calls have I ever said that there was a part missing, despite the fact that that has been the whole purpose of my calls! She goes on to say that she'll contact the contractor, and places me on hold then hangs up on me. She calls back and says the contractor has stated that "they have a picture" of the fan with the flywheel still attached. That's all well and good. I have a picture of the fan without the flywheel. Big whoop. By this point, I'm starting to lose my temper as Delphine's tone and attitude throughout the call has been rude, short, and on multiple occasions, she has interrupted me, talked over me, and ignored my queries.
You can either take the $160 payout and get a new fan or there's nothing else you can do. Your fan has a lifetime warranty. Why did you make a ticket with us instead of calling them to get it repaired? It became a mantra that she continued to repeat to me. She refused to let me speak to someone else, and made it very clear that the contractor's word supersedes mine. This is the second time I've had a contractor do absolutely nothing, and in this case, the contractor more than likely removed the flywheel for their own profit.
I'm sick and tired of these 'policies' where AHS basically guarantees that if anything is actually broken, they'll replace it with the absolute cheapest option possible. As well as sending out the cheapest crappiest contractors that they could find. I've had a few contractors that were great, but for anything beyond simple repairs - it's simply not worth it. All they've done is screw me around, make up their own notes, and basically rob me blind.
We are sorry to hear about the inconvenience on these requests. There are other options available as explained by the researcher on this work order. I will have your researcher follow up concerning your issue.

I requested service on my hot water heater and they sent Donnie from K&S Plumbing out immediately to assess the situation. Seems I need a new water heater. Great! I paid my $100 fee and expected things to get done. I now have a bill for $375 plus the $100 I have already paid. I spoke with the water & electric company in the area and went over the very expensive breakdown of prices I was given. They all agreed it was very high. The contract says in #5 Water heaters: Covered - All Components & Parts, including tankless water heaters and circulating pumps, except: NOT COVERED - Auxiliary holding or storage tanks - noise - fuel storage and energy conservation unit.
Total price for me and AHS to cover is approximately $1100! Are you kidding me? This is a 42 gallon water heater. Break down prices should be embarrassing: Drain Pan $125 (cost $20), Expansion Tank $175 (costs tops $50 and doesn't need), Di-electrical nipples $75 (costs about $8 each), Ball Valve $125 (costs about $28), T&P Valve $125 (costs about $15), plus heater disposal $50, water heater $385 (costs probably $298). WOW! Do the math! Look to be about $745 in labor for a 1.5 hour install. You have to be kidding me. I think I should open a plumbing company. Oy Vey! However, luckily the repairman was a perfect gentleman. I would be too if my boss did highway robbery daily. I'm glad this company is from Pelham, AL. Southern AL doesn't need them.
I tried to explain this to 3 different service operators at AHS but they don't seem to care. Just pay your part or cancel. No other companies to give estimates. No paperwork to back up all these new additions. I have a call in to Kim ** at the City of Daphne Building Department about this new code costing $500 in additional work and my attorney at Johnstone Adams to review my AHS Contract regarding their responsibility. Will come back and add the receipt that is supposed to be emailed to me tonight. I paid by check.

Our faucet came off on our tub. I requested service and stated that access would be difficult and the plumber would have to go through the wall. I asked to speak with the plumber before he came to let him know the situation. That didn't happen. The plumber shows up and says he can't work on the plumbing until we hire some to create an access panel for him. Why did AHS waste my time? I called AHS and expressed my displeasure. AHS said they would get the recording of my first call and see if I said that. Of course I never heard from them again. They are johnny on the spot to take their payments, not to satisfy their customers.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention Erin. Someone from our resolution department will reach out to the contractor for the diagnosis and contact you to close this service request.

I’ve had American Home Shield a little over 2 years. It’s a good program. I initially got the first service plan when I bought my house as I bought an older home and that was one of the selling points. I’ve renewed the plan twice already and I intend on keeping the plan for renewing. The last problem was the water heater was leaking and didn’t have any noticeable issues until we saw a bit of a discoloration on our ceiling because the water heater is in the attic. The ceiling had a little bit of discoloration. We went up to check and there was a leak on the pressure stabilizer. I’ve never had a problem submitting a claim to American Home Shield. I call them up, go online and tell them what’s wrong and they schedule somebody. The service is outstanding. Every time they sent technician out, they’ve gone beyond their way to make me feel I was the most important thing to them. I’ve not have one time that I’ve submitted for repair that they hadn’t been out within 2 days. The contractors were all very good and very knowledgeable. They know exactly what’s wrong. They take the time out to make sure they do the job right. Because of that, I’ve already recommended American Home Shield to several friends.
Hello Dean, I am so happy that you are sharing your experience with others and that your happy with your home warranty service. We will continue provide excellent service.

The kitchen refrigerator was not able to keep things cool. I put in a request for service. The repair company came out, stated it needed coolant. A week or so later, the repairman came back and filled it. A few weeks later the refrigerator started having the same problem and the lights weren't working, so this time I called American Home Shield to put in the repair request. The representative stated that the original company would come back out to look at it. The company came back out. The tech stated that the lines must have a leak. He ordered something to seal the leak and bulbs and fuses.
Before he could come back to fix the leak, the refrigerator leaked all over my kitchen floor and into the basement. I could not get the repair company to come back out, so I called American Home Shield. The rep from AHS finally got the repair company on the phone. The person stated that they had already been out and had ordered sealant. The water must have come from the refrigerator not keeping things cool. They would come back out to seal it when it arrived. When the tech finally showed back up to the house, I explained to him what happened and questioned where the water had come from. After further inspection of the refrigerator, the tech stated that the refrigerator would need parts rebuilt or the refrigerator replaced and he would contact me further.
A week or so later, I receive a call from a new appliance place. The old company transferred our repair request to another company. The new company came out to look at the refrigerator but refused to do any repairs. The new company stated that the old company does this to them frequently. When they cannot fix the refrigerator and they think that the appliance needs to be replaced, they transfer the job to another company. The new company came out last Tuesday, and I am still waiting on a call back from AHS’s specialty team. I have called daily since last Tuesday and was assured last Friday that someone would call me to let me know how to proceed. It is now exactly one week since the new repair company came out. The refrigerator is not keeping anything cold. Unfortunately, the cold that I am feeling is from AHS - They are certainly keeping me out in the cold on the refrigerator repair.
Thank you for sharing your experience on the refrigerator request. I will ensure that the escalation representative continues to follow up to provide resolution! We are sorry for the delay!

OK let me start by saying I never write reviews (just not my thing), however I am really irritated by American Home Shield's service or lack there of. To start, on 4 December I called and requested service for our water heater which began smoking and melted several wires and the insulation surrounding the water heater. My garage filled with smoke and smelled terrible. I called American Home Shield which ironically I was praising the day before for all the services available.
I called customer service to have a work order submitted and it went fairly smooth. I received a call the very next morning (Friday) from a local contractor to service our water heater. He told us the earliest he could get to us is on Monday. I explained to him that we really needed it sooner. He explained to us that it was not logged as an expedited request and that I needed to call American Home Shield back to get them to expedite it. I called them and they said it was not an emergency and there was nothing they could do.
To give a little more info on my end I have a 3 and 4 year old which not having hot water really gets hard with that alone. Also my aunt passed away and I had an additional 5 people in my home 2 of which were 6 and 3 yr olds. OK so back to the story, so I called the contractor who called me originally and he said that they can in fact log it as an expedited call and that he would call them back personally and get them to do so. He called me back shortly and told me that they logged it as an expedited call and I was relieved. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday all came and went and NO ONE CAME OUT. Not even a phone from American Home Shield.
I called American Home Shield today Tuesday 9 Dec to see what's going on and they informed me that no one else is available in my area to do an expedited request, and I asked the question why didn't someone call me and at least let me know that no one was coming at all to which they said they did not have an answer why! To sum up for they lack of true customer care and service and for making a hard time with the death of a family member that much harder I would not recommend them and have even talked my brother who is purchasing a new home out of going with American Home Shield. Sorry, but you guys missed the mark.
We will work on improving services so that customers can avoid delays such as this. Sorry for the experience you had and we will contact the contractor to ensure they complete the water heater replacement. Please let us know if you need any additional assistance.

Our heating system went down on Nov 18, and we called AHS that same day. Yet 3 weeks later (today is 12/9), AHS STILL has not made a decision for what to fix. The first contractor (COMFORT FIRST HEATING & COOLING INC) came next day, claims a previous AHS contractor did not install the board properly, but never submitted the diagnosis report. The second contractor (CAROLINA AIR HEATING AND COOLING INC) came one week later, said the heat exchanger is broken, but did not submit the diagnosis report for over 1 week and at the end AHS asked the first contractor to come again. The first company came last Thursday 12/4 to take a photo, and THAT'S IT. No diagnosis report submitted within 48 hrs. Nothing.
So after 3 weeks and 20+ phone calls, there is still no resolution for what to do with the heating system. I was told on at least 5 separate occasions that AHS would call me back to follow up, and not even once did this happen. I find it appalling that we can't get an answer for what will be done even after THREE WEEKS, and this is in a home with 2 toddler children and evenings consistently in the 20s to low 30s. At this point, I would have to assume that this is the corporate tactic/strategy for AHS, to keep stalling on fixing the heating system until I have to go out and pay for my own fix, and that AHS would simply claim it's not covered by the warranty at that point.
The customer reps repeatedly claim it's problems with the contractors, but these are AHS approved contractors! At some point AHS has to take responsibility. I find it unacceptable that I am repeatedly lied to by AHS reps, and that there is no mechanism in place to elevate an issue to a manager if a solution is not in place within a week. I also find it amusing that the customer reps claim there is no manager I can speak to.
We would like to make things right Sam, thanks for bringing this to our attention! I would be more than glad to have a case manager follow up with this issue and assist. Someone will contact you today for resolution!

Two days before Thanksgiving, our hot water heater started leaking out the bottom onto our pantry floor. We called and requested service and were told a technician would be out the next day to look at it. No one showed up or called. The day after Thanksgiving, we received a message that an appointment should have been scheduled and if it had not then we should call. By the time I received the message it was past business hours and we had to wait until Monday to call back. An appointment was then scheduled for Tuesday.
A technician came out and all he did was write down the information written on the side of the water heater so that a new one could be ordered. We could have given this information over the phone a week earlier. The technician also could not answer a question about why the water heater kept filling up after I drained it the first day it leaked. We have a garden hose hooked up and running through the house through the back door to keep it drained. The technician indicated we would probably have the new water heater installed by the end of the week. Two days later I called to find out when they might be coming out. I was told they were out of water heaters and had back ordered them not expecting any in until the following week.
Today, it has been two weeks since we have had hot water with no expectation to have it replaced soon. This is absolutely not acceptable. I could have bought a water heater at Home Depot and had it installed the next day and it would have been worth it compared with the grief and frustration we have suffered. We are definitely dumping this home warranty as soon as we can after we get our hot water back.
We apologize for the delay Keith. If you would like other options I would be more than happy to have a case manager reach out to you. Holidays can sometimes delay service, but you should not have experienced any delays in your request. If you need assistance please reply back.

I called in May 2014 when my air conditioner was not working properly. As usual, I call AHS, which I have been a customer with for 11 years. They called a contractor that came out to my house and told me it was fine. It was set on 73 degrees and it was 80 degrees inside. I have asthma and need to be in cooler temperatures. I am on oxygen at night and need to stay cool. They cleaned the line from my split system and said it should help. It did not. I called them back and they sent the same contractor and still they stated nothing was wrong. I have been to a great deal of places and they seem to stay cool. I called AHS again and they stated the contractor said nothing was wrong.
I decided to call other contractors. I had three different ones to come to let me know what was wrong. All of them stated that the duct work was loose in different parts of the attic so I was losing cool air in the attic. They all stated that no water should ever be in the emergency pan because it is an emergency pan! I could not take it any longer and when AHS refused to do anything about it, I proceeded to having my system replaced. Once I did, it stayed cool and at the temperature it was on with any deviation. I do not appreciate this type of service. They have been good when I had other issues in the past but when it came to the heating and air, they have not.
I sent AHS pictures of my unit which fell into pieces when brought from the attic because it was rusted out from sitting in water, which it should not have been. I also sent them the bill that I had to replace the unit. All I want was some reimbursement for my expense since they refused to repair the unit. They seem not to care at all. They also refused to pay for any of it. I had to replace the entire split system. Not so happy but staying cool in the summer and warm in the winter! I feel they need to reimburse for part of my system or at least refund what I had to pay for a contractor to come. They will do nothing!

I recently filed a claim with American Home Shield for a heating problem and the service guy fixed it. A couple of times AHS has disappointed me but on the other hand they've come through a couple of times. I never had any problem with the service particularly but I got rounded by paying someone out of my pocket instead of using AHS. It happened to me twice and I haven't forgotten about them. First one was when my garbage disposal broke and they replaced it with the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen in my entire life; even the plumber that put it in said it is. So what I did is I took it out and bought something for $100 and put it in myself and I have no further problem. But I don't think that's really fair because I don't think I should have had to go buy a new one. That's actually one of the things that was covered.
The second time is my hot water heater broke a few years back and AHS sent someone down to my house to repair it. He looked at it and then he told me it's going to cost a little over $800 to repair it. The fact is I've got it done for like $275 including the heater. So I wasn't too pleased there and it still stings a little when I think of how they tried to get to me.
On the other hand, I have to say with a grain of salt if they hadn't fixed my heater, it might have cost me a lot more money than it did. Overall, submitting a claim with AHS was easy and I never had any problem at all with their reps. So I have to look at it from both sides but it will be very hard for me to tell someone that AHS is not going to let them down because frankly they do. But on the other hand, they've been pretty good to me as well but I'm not too happy with AHS.
Thank you for sharing the feedback Bob! We appreciate your response to some of the claims filed. We do not order garbage disposals so it is up to the technician to get the customer a great builder standard garbage disposal. As far as water heaters, we rely on the contractor to tell us what they need to replace a covered item and we go by the contract. However, if the items are not needed then we do not require the customer to pay anything additional. That is where the cash in lieu option comes in. We will look into the contractors associated with these service requests who have provided information to us and work on improving our list of providers.

I have had a good enough experience with American Home Shield that I have maintained a policy for 20 years. I would definitely recommend them.
Thank you for your loyalty Valerie! We appreciate your recommendations and look forward to taking care of your future warranty needs!

We love American Home Shield, they have been wonderful for us. We had a problem with my water heater. Submitting the claim was very easy and they called us the next morning. My first appointment with them happened within two days of me calling. They were supposed to be here at 8 o’clock at night that day to accommodate my hours and they got held up on another job. That was a Thursday night and they couldn’t make it Friday, but they did come first thing Saturday morning. They did it quickly so I was more than happy with them. Everything is working fine since the repair. I have recommended them to several friends. We have a very, very good relationship with them and we’ll stay with them.
Hello Deborah, thank you for sharing you experience with others and look forward to assisting you with any future home warranty needs.

I've been an AHS subscriber since 2008 and up until this week have had excellent service, experienced great customer service and have on many occasions recommended AHS to friends and co-workers. A couple of years back, AHS even replaced entire AC unit after it became unserviceable. This week, I placed a service request because the pilot light on my gas hot water heater would not stay lit. The service technician came out and identified the cause and the parts that would be needed to repair the unit. I was told in a follow up call from the servicing company that same day that it would be 3-5 days before the parts would arrive.
Both the servicing company and AHS told me that AHS does not allow overnight shipping of parts, so now I have to wait at least 3-5 days for the parts to arrive from Whirlpool. While it may not be an emergency according to AHS, it sure is an inconvenience! Like others have mentioned, I asked to speak with a AHS supervisor and was directed to her voicemail. I was assured I'd be called back but as you might have guessed, no call back. After this repair I intend to cancel my subscription to AHS. I figure I can put the $53/mo away in a separate savings account for future repairs that can be done the same day.

We turned the heater on and it didn’t heat so we filed a claim with American Home Shield. They sent the contractor out who tried to fix it but had to order a part that came a couple of days later. They came back to put it in. The contractors were very efficient. Everything has been working super and we were satisfied. It was a very good experience. They’re usually very punctual. My only complaint is sometimes when they get a person to service, they live a long way away and the contractors have to travel that long and I hate for them to have to do that.

I can’t remember what the claim was but submitting my claim with American Home Shield was fine. The service I had with the contractor was very good. The repair was not totally perfect, but they’ve done all they can.
Thank you Lynn for sharing this feedback! We look forward to taking care of your future service needs!

Hot water heater broke. Three weeks later I am still waiting for AHS to advise me how we are going to resolve the issue. I call every day. I request to speak to a manager and get put on a "wait list" for manager to return my call. Last communication I had with a supervisor, I was advised there is an issue between the Cash Out dept and the Authorization dept. I don't believe it should require me to call 3x per day for 3 weeks to get this issue fixed. All I want to know is "how much AHS will pay towards replacement of the hot water heater?" AHS has asked 4x for the plumber to supply additional information, for which plumber has spent multiple hours ensuring they have the proper information. Plumber has indicated he will NOT continue to provide the same information to AHS as he is not being paid for every consultation he provides. Worst customer service I have ever experienced.... and still no hot water (since November 14).
This issue is currently being researched by our escalation department Karen. We apologize for the inconvenience. Someone will give you a call today to address your concerns.
