I have had American Home Shield out twice and everything's gone okay each time I've had them out. The contractor sent out by AHS worked on my microwave and he had to get parts for it. The other call was for my dishwasher. Everything went well.

I've had Home Shield for over 15 years and they've done a good job. I had a dispute with them only once over a contractor that they sent to fix my washing machine. The guy was a crook. He wasn't able to fix the washing machine and just told me that it's the way it is. He went away with my $75. When I called Home Shield again with a problem with my dryer, they sent out a new contractor because I requested the first guy to be off my list. The second contractor was okay. He knew what he was doing and he got it fixed.
Then I called Home Shield to get my first $75 back. They wouldn't pay it because it was too long a time. So I'm a little upset with Home Shield on that one because it's not my fault. They are the ones sending the contractors. But I'd still give them a high rating because they listen to what I tell them and they do what I ask in the end. They have kept their rate pretty minimal. They have done really well with that and their deductible has gone up very, very little. They have maintained a really good steady business.

We are now on the 7th day without hot water. Report a hot water tank problem and it took 2 days for the plumbing contractor to call and said they couldn't find the order from the warranty company. They came to the house on the 3rd day and said as we knew, we needed a hot water tank and it would cost over $400 to hook it up and that was not covered because the contract stated it was a modification. The modification was running a 5 inch pipe to connect.
Called American Home Shield to discuss and was told there was a buy out option if we wanted it. Asked what that was and have yet to hear of anyone. Plumber has not returned calls about a replacement. When calling American Home Shield was told basically that their contractor would get back to us. When we questioned the quality of the plumber we were basically told it was not the person answering the phones problem and we had to wait for the plumber to call us back. I am not sure why we have this insurance. WE bought it for 2 houses and feel like it is a fraud!!

First noticed a couple of months ago that the upper oven was not functioning properly. Once it was heating then it was shut off. Then I filed the claim and the GE repairman was here and he replaced a couple of heat sensors. But that didn't solve the problem so he came back and indicated that it was the electronic control panel which he then indicated that it was no longer replaceable. That was when the GE repairman obviously notified American Home Shield that it was not a replaceable item. So anyway, that was when American Home Shield contacted me and indicated that the appliance should be replaced. So we replaced the unit, and we took advantage of the upgrade program and replaced it with a new oven. I was very pleased and it was absolutely a wonderful experience.

I recently got screwed by American Home Shield (AHS), ** at First Time HVAC in OKC BS ** at All About Comfort HVAC in OKC. I have had a home warranty contract through AHS and my 24-yr old A/C died and needs replacement. I have invested over $12,000 over the years with AHS and only had minor repairs done and AHS reps have recharged and repaired this same unit without comment about exterior blemishes or the normal wear and tear. ** at First Time came and made no attempt at repair and just reported to AHS that there was damage and it was NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR (AHS contract language) and they voided their contract obligations.
On appeal, ** with All About did not even remove the cover or look in the unit. He wrote that it was damaged and NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR on a 24-year old A/C. I hired a HVAC company and they came, charged the system and the house cooled down. He agreed the unit was in need of replacement in the near future due to NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR of a 24-yr old A/C. I would not count on AHS for anything over $200 in repairs because they apparently instruct their reps like First Time and All About to write opinions in the words of their contracts which voids the customers rights. I would not let ** or ** in my home and you should not either. In my opinion, none of these companies are honorable or Christian as advertised, and neither are their technicians. BEWARE OF AHS, First Time and All About Comfort in Oklahoma City.

We just had our hot water heater go bad and scheduled to have a service man come. The heater needed to be replaced and since the plumber had called to set up a time to come... and he came when he said he would, he had brought a new heater with him if needed. In about an hour we were back in business. The A-1 Haney Plumbing owner and his helper were very thorough, quick and professional. The operator I dealt with at AHS was kind, helpful, and took care of everything quickly. Great Job!

I have recommended AHS several times. Anytime I've had to deal with them, it's been perfect. I filed a claim recently because I was having a problem with my washing machine. The repair took longer than I expected -- it possibly took a little over a week -- because they had to get the part needed. But once they got the part, they came in and it took about 5 minutes to install it and it was done. It was great and my washing machine has been working perfectly.

I filed a claim for the furnace and someone was out here a day or two after. Everything went smoothly. They fixed whatever they needed to fix, but I still had to call in an electrician because the problem with the power surge was separate. I had to pay additional money to the electrician because American Home Shield won't pay for electrical work.
Last summer I had problems with my air conditioner. I was reading my contract with AHS and I didn't know they had made some changes. It's only a certain amount of Freon that they will put in and all the rest I need I have to pay for, and there were a couple of parts that they didn't cover anymore.

When I bought the house it came with American Homeshield (AHS) for the 1st year. When it expired I continued with the plan for over a year now. Since then, I made two service calls. First was about air condition that didn't cool the third floor. The contractor came, spent about 5 minutes and said he couldn't do anything because the central air was not installed properly. $75 service call charge. I called a few times trying to inquire how and how much to fix the problem. No answer, no solution. I had to purchase four window units to replace central air.
The 2nd call was recently. The water heater stopped generating hot water in a cold winter day. It was an emergency call. It turned out that the pilot was dirty and needs a little cleaning. However, It took many frustrating phone calls to AHS and their contractor and 5 days for someone to show up to fix the problem. It's not worth the frustration of waiting and the $75 service call. I called to cancel the contract right away and the representative said she would submit my complaint to another department and someone would contact me, but my contract was canceled as of now. A couple days later, another AHS representative called and left me a message saying that she couldn't cancel my contract without talking to me. I called and left a message, still waiting for her to call me back.
I know AHS is stalling for a couple more days to auto-charge my credit card by the end of the month. I just check my credit card and found out AHS had raised their monthly charge by $8.50 since Jan. 2015. Another surprise for me. I have signed up for Choice Home Warranty. Much cheaper. But how is their service? Wait and see.
Hi Yili, We apologize that your experience led you to cancel your home warranty with us. If you have any questions in regards to your cancellation, I can have a retention associate contact you.

This company is a scam. They send their own people for check up who will find stuff that would be under the fine print guidelines and refuse the service. Somebody need to file the class action lawsuit against this company. I am having problem with my water heater leaking. Their plumber is blaming it on the rain and water leak from the roof. I had roofers inspected the roof, there is NO water leak from the roof and there is NO corrosion on top of the water heater. 95% corrosion is inside the tank due to old age (10 years). I've had 3 other plumbing companies looked at it, they all said it's due to old age NOT from rainwater. But this company AHS is stuck on their own plumber's statement and refusing to repair.

Called for a service repair for our cooktop because one of the burners was not working automatically, we were using matchbox. And then the technician came and he said he doesn't have a part and he said he will come again when he gets the part. So it was not fixed yet. In general, whenever we complain and AHS fix somebody to repair, then this repair company takes at least 3 to 4 days to come. And they come and see and they are not able to fix it because they say, "We don't have the parts." So they go back and come after another 5 or 6 days. It's so inconvenient.

Their claims representatives are always excellent. I've always been taken care of in a timely manner and it's always been working fine right after the contractors fix it. My interactions with the contractors they sent out has been good. There's just been one problem I've had when they always want to send me a particular service rep for my furnace whenever I have a furnace problem and I have had a lot of bad dealings with this person. I let them know not to ever send me this particular service person, and they noted it. I called in a service request to see why the kitchen faucet's hot water had very little pressure when the faucet's handle was turned all the way over the hot. The FIRST repair appointment was 2/20/15. Repairman was unable to fix the problem because the faucet's parts had seized up. I gave him all the information on our faucet: the manufacturer, make, model # and product catalog where he was able to get part #. I have a copy of the work order. The SECOND appt. was 2/27/15. Same repairman was unable to install new part, afraid he will break line underneath. I have a copy of that work order. The THIRD appt was 3/6/15. Different repairman this time. He brought same part back and tried to install again. Same outcome as before, the faucet was seized. He said we needed a new faucet, one handle with spray. I have a copy of the work order.
Fourth appt was 3/11/15 between 2 & 6 pm window. Same repairman as last time arrived around 10 pm. We were not in the kitchen when he installed new faucet. He finished and called us out to kitchen. My first reaction was OMG! I told him the replaced faucet was unacceptable. It's not close to being comparable to the faucet we had. We asked him to remove it and put our old one back. He said he couldn't because he cut the piping. I asked if we could keep our old one, he said no, it had to go with him. I asked him to document on the work order how unhappy we are and I wrote faucet unacceptable, not comparable and I wanted an explanation. I have a copy of the work order. Here is where I needed the assistance of AHS.
3/12/15: Called Polar Plumbing, explained the situation. She will get with technician when he gets in to see if he still has our old faucet. If he did someone could drop it off to us. She assured me someone will call me back today, probably the service/parts manager. NO ONE CALLED BACK! 3/12/15: Called AHS, customer service rep was rude and said she will send email to supervisor to call me. I called back to speak to another rep. This rep was much better. She looked up my last call and no email was sent. She also said that the tech/repairman should have given me 3 options, I said nothing was offered. I explained the differences and she agreed that the faucet was not even close to being comparable. She said she was going to take this straight to her manager and call me back within a half hour. She also said there is no reason why we could not keep the faucet that night. NO ONE CALLED BACK!
3/17/15 Called Polar Plumbing, had to explain to entire story again. She transferred me to the parts dept. Spoke with a guy who was familiar with the situation. He will call tech/repairman and call me back with an answer today. NO ONE CALLED BACK! 3/17/15 Called AHS, rep pulled up my file. I asked her if AHS is willing to give up $1,200.00 business, this year. We would add a new home warranty making it 3 contracts later in the year. We discussed the faucet'sfeatures and their differences. She will discuss this situation, what I have gone thru and possibility of losing us as customers with her manager. She brought up the 3 options we were suppose to be given and we weren't. I will receive a call back today. NO ONE CALLED BACK!
3/18/15 Called Plumbing co: I was immediately transferred to parts dept. Left a message for a call back. NO ONE CALLED BACK! 3/18/15 Called AHS: spoke with an excellent rep. who read my claim file. He apologized for the very bad support and follow up by supervisors/managers. He placed me on hold and was able to get some answers for me. The plumbing co threw out our old faucet. Plumbing co was rude to him as well. He kept me on the phone while he did the email to his manager. He also put me thru to her voicemail and I left the message for her to call me back. NO ONE CALLED BACK! Our old Faucet: Price Pfister single control, high arched spout, side soap dispenser, side spray, stainless steel. Price $259.00 bought at Lowe's. New Faucet: Project Source 2 handles, almost flat spout, no soap dispenser, side spray, metal. Price $38.00 at Lowe's.

I filed a complaint on 3/25/2015 regarding our kitchen faucet and no one would call us back. Well it seems that customer relations is no different. We finally were called back on March 31, 2015. A female customer relations rep spoke to us about the situation. Listed below are the topics discussed:
1. She apologized for the lack of courteously and poor knowledge from the customer service reps/service reps.2. She said we purchased the best policy, and should have received a comparable faucet replacement to begin with.
3. She agreed, we were to go out and purchase a new faucet, like our original.
4. We were to fax her the new faucet receipt for reimbursement.
On 4/19/2015, we purchased our new faucet. (I am disabled and cannot drive. I was sick and housebound so my husband waited until I was able to go.) Many times I tried to reach all our customer relations rep with no success. However, I did leave a message every time. Stating we have the faucet and who will you send to install it. We did not want Polar Plumbing!!!! ----Not One Call Back!!---- from all those messages I left.
On 6/05/2015, we faxed the new faucet receipt to her direct fax number. By faxing the receipt we were hoping for a call back saying she received the fax. ------No Call Back!!!----- I started leaving messages again in hopes our reimbursement check and installation of faucet are currently being processed. ----- Again, No Call Back!!!----- AHS is hypocritical, they manage to call their clients when contract renewal time is near but once our yearly contract payment is made, it's client who, we'll get back to you.

We have had some issues as far as Freon was concerned - the Freon was leaking. But that was the only thing. We haven't had any other problems with the air conditioning unit until it just started getting warm here in Houston and we tried to turn it on. It was blowing but it was not producing any cool air. It was blowing hot air. So that's when we called and made the claim with AHS. It was actually a very good experience we had when submitting a claim with AHS. The person I spoke with was really friendly and got the company out here as soon as possible. So I didn't have any problems or complaints with American Home Shield at all. We've just got it repaired on Thursday and it's been working just fine.
Everything went smoothly. The only thing is if they could explain why the Freon is extremely expensive. American Home Shield only paid for $10/lb of the Freon but the company charged us $70/lb? Because of the compressor that we had replaced, the only thing that we had to pay besides the service call fee of $75, was for the 9 lbs of Freon, and it is extremely expensive because it's not regulated. American Home Shield paid the first $10 so we ended up having to pay $60 times how many pounds of Freon he put in, and it was almost 9 lbs. They explained it to us and my husband understands it perfectly. The repair itself should be the biggest cost of things but for the actual Freon, that was obviously expensive. But that's the only complaint I have.

Around about 2/15/15 the digital display began to malfunction on our drop-in-stove. The repair people sent out to look at the stove didn’t even examine the unit, but made the diagnosis of a failing digital display unit based solely on the description of the problem; this cost $75.00 for them to do nothing!!! We were later given the choice by American Home Shield of waiting 3 weeks for them to order the part or the cash price of the part so we out of our own pocket, could get a new stove.
Well I don’t know where to get a new stove for under $400, so we went for the repair. Cheapest units we could find were about $1,000 on sale. Our thinking was that the range still worked perfectly and we could deal with having to reset the oven once in a while, while the part was ordered. But this is not what happened. The repair company showed back up and removed the part. Upon further communication with the company we were told that they never told American Home Shield they could order the part. Ordered parts take only 3-4 days, but that the part had to be sent out for repair. And that it could be 10 days, three weeks, maybe more before the part would be fixed. In the meantime they turned off the power to the unit so we now have no range at all!!!
Now we have to eat out a lot which is costing more money. And since there was never any examination of the drop in stove, there is no certainty that this is even is the problem, as there are other electronics and circuit boards inside that may be failing. The last digital display lasted nearly 10 years. The part being replaced only lasted about 4 years, leading me to believe that the problem is more systemic.
Considering that we have been with American Home Shield for several years, I would think that it would be time for the company to just replace the unit, without putting us through the hardships of endlessly waiting to see when the part will arrive. Again I agreed to the part being ordered, not sent out for repair!!! Everyone we speak to about this sees the difference except American Home Shield.
As of this writing we have been without a working range and oven since 2/27/15 which will be 4 weeks on Friday!!!! As Landlords, I know that not having a working range and oven for this extend period of time would make the home considered, under California law, uninhabitable for tenants! But what about homeowners?
For us the heart of the matter is this: if every time an aged system fails and a part cannot easily be sourced; if American Home Shield can then force a buyout of the unit through consumer inconvenience, by way of perceived hardship to the consumer by waiting for the part to be ordered or repaired, by only offering the value of the needed part for the unit in full; it makes the warranty paid for near useless, as most systems if not all, will always be valued much higher than the sum of its parts.
We apologize for the inconvenience Brian. But as a warranty it is our duty to repair or replace what has failed. If the item is deemed repairable, then we will repair it or offer options so that the customer can do what they want with the item. The only time we replace is if it is deemed non-repairable. We understand the amount for the part is not enough to cover cost to replace the item, so I can have a case manager reach out to you if you wish to speak with the resolution department. The purpose for the repair money was for repairs, and if we were to give the cost for replacement, it would be at the cost of the warranty not retail. I will have a researcher give you a call to see if they can assist.

To be fair to American Home Shield we have in past years received satisfactory service on a number of issues. We have had our garage door repaired, our A/C fixed, and even had our dishwasher replaced without too many problems.
However, our current situation with our washer is completely unacceptable and still unresolved after more than 6 weeks. The washing machine will go through the wash cycle, but then won't drain or advance to the spin cycle. The first contractor came several times and replaced parts but never got it working. He apparently gave up on it without telling us. He just stopping coming and then we got an email notice from AHS that a new contractor was assigned to us. The new contractor again came several times and replaced more parts too. I have lost track of all the things they have replaced: transmission, pump, motor, etc. This second contractor finally declared it a loss and said we needed a new washer.
On a side note, I expect more professional service from these contractors. They didn't bother to drain the standing water in the washer for so long it started to stink up the whole house. We had to drain the water manually ourselves the first time. After the second contractor attempted repairs I insisted that they drain the water out. They also left our laundry room a mess after every visit. I expect contractors to leave our home in the same state they found it.
Now even after the second contractor declared it loss, AHS says they will take another week to "review" our case and perhaps replace some more parts. What are they thinking? They have probably sunk more cost into contractors and parts than a new washer already. Also, do they never think of providing a timely repair for their customer? We have to take hours every week to haul all the laundry to a laundromat and pay all the associated costs. Are we getting reimbursed for 2 months of laundry expenses?
Another problem is the lack of response from customer service. After almost 2 months without a working washer we are trying to escalate this case and get it resolved. However, after a number of calls that almost seems impossible. The people answering the phones always say they will have a supervisor call you back. Of course, that has not happened. We are still waiting to hear from AHS.
Hi John, Thank you for sharing your experience with your washer service work order. I would like to get a case manager involved to assist in moving this along. Is it okay to have someone contact you for resolution?

I'm perfectly happy with American Home Shield. They've done really well. We've called them twice, once to replace an attic fan and once about the heating and air conditioning. AHS is excellent and really fast in handling claims. They sent someone to look at the heating and air conditioning, and he came out and the problem was just a loose wire in the attic. It's been excellent since the repair. I will renew when my contract runs out.

I've had no problem with the service that AHS have provided us concerning our few problems. However, when I had a problem with my garage door opener, the contractors sent by American Home Shield attempted to replace the circuit board but wasn't able to. They have to come back several times before they finally got it right. I just went out and bought another one and replaced the whole unit. They were trying to fix something that wasn't fixable, which was a pain in the neck because it took more time than what it should have.

I filed my last claim with American Home Shield because my garbage disposal was leaking from underneath. I had my son-in-law, who is my garbage disposal expert, look at it and he said, "It looks to me like it's in the motor." When the repairman came, that's exactly what he said and so he did replace it. He was wonderful. He did a good job, cleaned up everything. The repair was fine.
But I feel like the replacement is not giving me the same service as the one I previously had. I don't think it's as good. It just didn't seem like I got a strong garbage disposal. There's no markings on it whatsoever. It doesn't give the brand. It doesn't say how many horsepower it is. I have an orange tree in my backyard and if I'm going to grind up those orange peels, I have to let that thing go forever, so I was concerned. My husband recently had a stroke so my life has turned upside down and I am a busy, busy girl. So I never called about this but that's my only concern.
The contractor did give me a warranty on it. He gave a book but there was no name so I have no idea what brand this is. He did tell me that the one I had was an InSinkErator and he said that sometimes the no-name, cheaper brands are better than the InSinkErator, and he may well be right. But I'm just a little disappointed that orange peels -- and these are fairly soft orange peels -- would have just gone by the wayside in there. So lots of times I don't even put stuff in it anymore. But that's my only complaint.
Service was great. The contractor was here as soon as AHS notified him, then he notified me immediately and he was able to come. The service has been quick so that's good. Everybody has been really great and fast. I would definitely recommend AHS. But I would maybe check out what's the replacement. That made me wonder -- If our water heater goes or if there's a major problem with an appliance, air conditioner or furnace, what's going to happen now? Am I going to get a cheaper replacement or will I get the same as or more of what I had before? But as far as service went, everything was good. The contractor was very good. Everybody was good and my overall experience with AHS has been awesome.

I'm very satisfied with them. The contractor knew immediately what the problem was and had the replacement part on his truck and was able to replace the defective part immediately. AHS paid the repairperson directly. All I had to pay was the copay on the service call and that was the negotiated price ahead of time so I knew exactly what it was going to cost me. Since I've been a participant in their program, I have been entirely satisfied.

Hi Lydia, Thank you for providing feedback about your experience! Per the contract verbiage, if the item is repairable per the technicians diagnose, we will repair it. Once it is determined to be non-repairable, AHS will replace the item. However, if you're not wanting the item repaired, we can offer you a cash in lieu of the repair costs. It was pretty smooth when I submit claims with AHS but I was disappointed with the plumber they sent for our water softener since he did not show up immediately. When he showed up he said he doesn't work on those things. So essentially, we had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get it replaced. A very poor representation of the company. He was saying that our water softener is about a $2000 to $3000 water softener, and then he said they're going to replace it with about a $307 water softener from the local hardware store. He recommended trying to get some cash, and then just building on to it to buy a better one on our own. We had a similar problem with the garbage disposal that AHS replaced for us. It was very low quality. We had to wait a long time. I could have actually did it myself cheaper.

I’m not a real big fan of American Home Shield. Our house came with a home warranty so we didn't pick them. We never received an actual contract from AHS either. Every time they come out, we had no say in what type of plan we have and who they picked. So there's a $100 fee no matter what every time that somebody comes out. For instance with our refrigerator, people have had to come out four times and we've owned the house for a year and a half. I called and I got someone who was pleasant on the phone. She was the most helpful person I've dealt with. She was very good and sweet and we spent 15 minutes on the phone and her going over everything. She told me that they won't give me a new fridge. I will get a prorated amount.
And then she said most times, people do the buyout and they just take whatever money they would have for the repair and they will just take that money and go put it towards a new appliance. I think that's crazy. What is the purpose of having a home warranty then? I feel it's a little deceiving in a sense. They are very hard to work with. They do give you the option to pay for it out of pocket and get reimbursed but there's a good chance that you probably won't get what you paid.
I am thinking our refrigerator might need to be replaced and it's going to cost me more out of pocket. But it tends to be when you do the math, it would be probably less expensive for us to just hire a contractor to come out and do a repair than it would be to wait. So I have a refrigerator right now that isn't working and I had to go out and buy a temporary fridge and they don't pay for all the food you lost because the refrigerator stopped cooling. And so it's been a two-week thing. The parts are still not in because they have a policy with the manufacturers to only get them from the manufacturers.
The biggest problem is they don't have contacts over here in Massachusetts except Sears and Sears is always booked. I called Sears to just pay for it out of pocket for my fridge because I lost all my food. So then I had to go to Home Depot and buy a fridge. I just bought a temporary fridge because I figured my fridge is gone, the condenser is gone. I'm going to get a replacement refrigerator. My refrigerator still isn't fixed. We're still waiting on parts. And then when the parts come in, I have to get rid of a bunch of my freezer stuff because I have to unplug my fridge for two days. And I've been trying to get my icemaker to be repaired by them which was my first issue.
The other is being in New England and they're from California. They don't have a lot of contacts out here. So when it came to like an electrical problem, they couldn't find anybody in our area. We live in Shirley, Massachusetts and they couldn't find anybody in our area who was willing to work with them. When our furnace started to have an issue, they couldn't find anybody that was willing to work with them because they don't have established contacts here and that's frustrating.
Another thing, can you imagine paying $100 for someone to come out and say, "Oh, yeah, your dryers clogged inside, internally. You just have to take the four screws out and clean it out." A hundred dollars for someone to tell me that. And he didn't even clean it. I had to clean it. I have not had very good experience with them. I make my husband take time out of work now so we lose money so that he can be here to deal with them because I also find that the people they do hire are just rude.
We went five months without smoke detectors in our house because they couldn't find an electrician. The town kept coming here because they're all hardwired so when one goes off, all 11 of them go off. And the neighbors kept calling the fire department and the fire department was furious because three towns over, there had just been a fire where people lost their lives because their smoke detectors weren't working properly. Of course, we were put on warning that they were going to condemn our home if we didn't get this situation taken care of.
In the state of Massachusetts, they only have two electricians. And the first one that came out came out in a horrific van with a half-flat tire who missed two appointments before, was a no-show for two appointments before, didn't know what he was doing, had to call another person and ask them what to do. I was horrified. At that point, I was told my husband, "You need to just deal with this. I can't deal with it." And then they got another electrician. It took them over a month and a half to find another electrician that would work with them.
He came out. He was very good. But still, the problem still remains. He has replaced all of our smoke detectors. He fixed part of the wiring and there's still a problem. The rest of the detectors work but the one in the living room doesn't. So let's hope that no fire ever starts here because we're not going to hear it until it gets to the next thing and that's sad. But I can't afford to keep having them come out and not do the job right. And I still have a house that's not 100% safe.
It's just unfortunate but in Massachusetts, which is where I live, they only have two accounts with electricians. How can you in good faith sell a warranty to someone, it doesn't matter who bought it, I didn't purchase them, but how do they do that in good faith when they can't even take care of what they're charging us for? They're supposed to be able to service all of these things inside my house and yet they can't even provide us with someone to do it. That's not fair. And they wonder why people aren't happy with them.
If you ask to speak with a supervisor or manager, you're not allowed to speak to a supervisor. They take your information down and then within a few days, the supervisor will call you. That bothers me a lot. I think that if you're not satisfied with the quality of service you're receiving, you should be able to speak to whoever the manager is on the floor, but they don't work that way. Because of this I don't recommend them to anybody. If I had known what I know now, I would never have renewed my warranty because you figure you're paying almost $700 a year and then $100 every time you need someone to come out. With that $700, I could have put towards a new fridge if necessary.
Hello Jodi, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We apologize for your recent experience and would like to assist you if you're still having issues with your repairs.

I had a heat pump problem and called AHS for a service request. They sent out a contractor. After they came out twice and didn't fix it, and they changed the thermostat twice - they gave me a cheaper thermostat - I requested a different contractor be sent out but they insisted in sending out the same contractor but with the manager. The manager came out and took a circuit breaker off of my heat pump downstairs where the unit is and spliced the wires together to bypass the circuit breaker.
A couple of days later, my main circuit breaker in the house blew. I was at work at the time. My son called me and said he smelled something burning. So I called the manager and asked him to come out. He did come out but my wife didn't know he was coming. I tried to get a message to her. She didn't let him in and she had no idea why he was there because she didn't know the breaker had blown.
I told my son when he called to make sure the heat pump breaker was off and turn the main breaker back on and that worked. My wife wasn't even aware of the whole situation when she got up. I wasn't home and the manager thought my wife was rude so he just left. I tried to call and left a voice mail for him and at the office for them to please call me. I wanted to explain about what happened that morning and then ask him the question about the heat pump, what had happened but he didn't call me back. It was real cold. The weather was bad and we didn't have any heat in the house.
I called a contractor of my own and he came out on a Saturday and found the wires in the heat pump in the inside unit had come loose, shorted, and blew the circuit breakers. Also, it melted the insulation on the wires which I saw for myself and some electrical tape was melted. He repaired that and then diagnosed my original problem that I've called for in the first place. He diagnosed that in about 20 minutes and demonstrated what it was to me. It was something outside on the heat pump defrost board and what the manager had done to my heat pump was dangerous. It was totally improper to splice aluminum and copper wires together because they move. If they don't have a good mechanical connection, they have a tendency to move and come loose. I am angry right now!

I've purchased a home recently and as per my Realtor advice, I got AHS insurance. I moved to my property on Feb mid (till that time I was staying in a rented apartment) and I took warranty on Feb 15, 2015 and the policy got effective from March first week. Last Thursday I found a leak from the water heater and contacted AHS. The service representative came promptly and I appreciate it. After an hour the claim department called me and said they denied the claim. The reasons are: less history with AHS and pre-existing condition. I told the representative that I bought the property on January 2015. Before that I was staying in a rented apartment and I have the inspection and bank appraisal report. After hearing this they changed the status of the claim to "Research."
I called the claim representative "n" times and left a lot of voice messages. Finally I escalated the issue and he responded to my call and said: the home inspector is not responding to his call. I said I'll call the inspector and add him to the conversation. He threatened me, "I will hang up the call, if you do so. The only option you have is I'll send a person for second opinion and we will go from there." The second service person came and he gave us a copy of the report and in that he mentioned, "The water heater is damaged. May be due to a flood so your insurance company won't replace it. If you pay 1150$, we will replace it. Please note: from 04/15 water heater prices are going 30% up."
My point is, I have both bank appraisal report and home inspection report. Both says, "The water heater is original 2007 model and it is working as expected." The HVAC system is 1996 model. It requires yearly tune-up. So today, I called cancellation department, waited 35 mins, and talked with a representative and cancelled the contract. I requested her to put these issues in my cancellation report and she said I'll only receive a generic letter.

I only have one bad experience with American Home Shield and that was with my refrigerator and it is still not right. I'm really angry about my refrigerator and they were saying that the cooling coil was gone in it and they called Sears to come fix it first. They had to order a part and then it was a big mix-up of who was supposed to fix it and they put the cooling coil in there but the refrigerator and freezer still doesn't cool like they were supposed to do. So my husband turned everything way up and then our vegetables in the vegetable bin froze. You have to be careful about making sure stuff doesn't get close to the wall of the freezer because it freezes up. I'd say they should replace the refrigerator but they replaced the cooling coil and it took them forever to do it. I had to eat out for two and a half weeks to get my refrigerator fixed.

The contractor showed up, looked at the tankless water heater, and determined that it wasn't the water heater and then promptly left. I was fortunate to have another plumber take a look and correct the problem (not associated to AHS). Unfortunately, I received a bill for $75 from the first plumber for his "analysis" of the problem. I called AHS to address the problem. Their policy: pay the bill, the plumber showed up despite the fact he did nothing to correct the problem. Needless to say, we will agree to disagree. I am no longer an AHS customer. Buyer beware!

I’ve done claims submission both ways via phone and online, and didn't have any problems. I've had AHS for fifteen years. Their representatives have been fine. As for the contractors sent, I've used plumbers, and heating and air. I had one instance where the heat kept going out and they kept sending Myers Electric out. Myers kept telling me it was dirty. I said it's broke and I was paying to have them come out. It went out on a weekend and they didn't consider it an emergency because I have an upstairs unit. So I called another company outside the warranty. They came out and it was broke like I thought it was. They replaced the part for $175 and I've never had a problem since. But one thing in fifteen years is not bad at all.

American Home Shield always takes care of whatever the problem is. I think the last time we had a problem, the furnace wasn't working and they came out that day which is really good because it's cold back here. Luckily, it wasn't anything major. But when you don't anything about electronics or plumbing or anything like that, it's important to have someone who does. Overall, my experience with AHS has been very good. I've actually recommended them several times. In fact, my sister now has the AHS coverage because of my experience with them.

I filled out an online request for a leak. The online request didn't allow me to expound on my request. Immediately, I received confirmation that my request was assigned to a plumbing company. Most of my experiences with AHS over the past 8 years have been pleasant. However, the plumbing company came out as scheduled, collected their fee upfront, only to come back to my door to tell me that my request was denied by AHS. There should have been more prompts to allow me to describe my issue and/or AHS should have followed up BEFORE assigning someone to come out. I still have to get a plumber to come out. Their process needs to be enhanced for online users with busy schedules. I called to file a complaint and requested a refund of my service fee. I sure hope that is granted as I would like to continue with AHS.

I got fed up and said to cancel warranty. Was transferred to retention. Was told they will reimburse me up to $350.00 for new microwave. I only had to e-mail receipt. I did that and no one contacted me. Then I get a bill for 2 months of service. I called and ask about my reimbursement. Was told I can only get it if I keep the warranty. American home shield has replaced my dryer. It was ordered on Friday 3/20 and being delivered today 3/25! I am so happy to have this resolved. They matched my old dryer feature for feature. My dryer has been repaired many times by the AHS contractors without a problem but the last 'company' (if you want to call it that.. The guy showed up in a car driven by his mom) they sent A Rapid Repair did not bother to put the bottom front panel back on and my husband could not find the screws. The dryer has again stopped working when I called for service. I had to provide proof I paid the last deductible because A Rapid Repair said we didn't pay. Provided a copy of the cashed check and they sent out Sears tech. He said that the bottom of the dryer off could be deadly and I have a young crawling baby!!! He refused to service my dryer and said it was not repairable. I've been waiting almost a week for AHS to let me know what to do. I have a large family's and this should be taken care of in a more timely matter. I have paid more deductibles than a new dryer would've cost. Lesson learned a little late.

The AC Repair Vendor called to SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 4 MORE DAYS WITHOUT COOL AIR! We have NEVER HAD A REPAIR NEED IN OVER 2 YEARS PAYING FOR THE WARRANTY. We called & found a AHS VENDOR to come HELP US because we couldn't afford to continue staying in a Hotel because it was too Hot in our condo. This Vendor ASSURED US AHS WOULD PAY FOR WORK & our HVAC had to be replaced.
We had to charge over $3000.00 on a credit card & submitted it for reimbursement. AHS DENIED OUR CLAIM STATING WE DID NOT GO THROUGH PROPER CHANNELS, yet AHS Vendor did the work!! We turned it in as an emergency & not 1 call for days when outside of Houston is HOT AND HUMID. I have a baby girl too & everyone was miserable. We pay for the warranty and always on time and AHS DENIED COVERAGE!!
Hi Jayme, We apologize for the experience you had with your a/c service work order during the middle of the summer. Unfortunately, online requests does not support Emergency services. They are generated as normal work orders. To get expedited services, you must speak with an AHS customer service representative. Our dishwasher was repaired and AHS credited the service fee because we had to wait so long for the repair.
Original Review: March 13, 2015
Our dishwasher began malfunctioning and we filed a claim with American Home Shield online. We were given a time when a repair person would come to repair the dishwasher--"Friday," which meant we had to wait two days. I was not happy waiting for two days because we had guests arriving and entertaining and providing meals for others without a dishwasher- was going to create a major inconvenience. However, we seem to always have to wait a couple of days for an American Home Shield repair, so I accepted it. Today--the Friday that we thought the repair person was going to show up between 8 am and 11 am--the repair person did not show up. We called and discovered that the appointment had been scheduled for A WEEK from Friday, meaning a repair person was going to show up to do the repair 1 1/2 weeks from the time the dishwasher ceased working. Of course, it could be longer if the repair person has to order parts.
We called American Home Shield and complained about the length of time it was going to take for the first repair visit. We spoke to a very helpful person who discovered that there was an appointment available on the Weds. of the following week (one week from the date that the dishwasher stopped working). We had to wait on hold while the original appt. date/date was verified and then more time on hold while she spoke to her supervisor. We asked her to try to find another repair option that is sooner. She agreed to work on it and call me back so I wouldn't have to continue to hold. My impression was that she tried really hard to get the repair expedited for us, but her supervisor would not approve it--so she was stuck. We are left with waiting more than one week for the first repair visit. That is unacceptable. Our contract is up for renewal in a few months and I am likely not to renew. I've had it with delays.
Hi Ann, we apologize for the scheduling and repair delays you had with your dishwasher service work order. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We regret to hear that you may not renew your home warranty with us. A case manager is available to help if you're still in need of assistance.

Furnace was ordered and installed on 3/11/15 around noon. On 3/12, my son & I came home after work/childcare and noticed a strong gas odor in the house.
Then I had to take my 4 year old son to the emergency room, because he had an allergic reaction to gas; I called the Fire Department, who called BGE. Both Agencies noticed a strong odor in the house and a leak on the gas pipe that was not screwed tight. BGE said that it’s very common that contractors don't screw the last valve. When I came home one particular day, I go to the Somerset to turn the heat on because it was the coldest day in Alabama. I go into the bedroom and I started smelling something like it comes from a lawn furnace, like rubber burning so I couldn't figure out. I thought I had done something and the house was on fire. I started running around looking and couldn't find anything, and then I realized it was coming from the attic where the heating unit is at. So I went back down. I got on the stairs and then I turned the system off and I was afraid to turn it back on.
I called American Home Shield and the people were really nice on the phone. When I got off the phone with them, it may have been 20 minutes at the most that I was getting a phone call back from the company that they have. They set the appointment. I briefed them on what the other heating company that I previously called had told me but then I was fearful that this is going to take a couple of days to get done, but they said, "We'll be there first thing in the morning," because by the time I got to the other company, I think it was 11:00 in the morning.
So they said, "We can't come now but we'll be there at 7:30-8:00 in the morning," and they did. The good news was when they came, the guy went up. He checked the system out, did everything that he could do because he was trying to rule out problems. Then finally he realized that that was actually what was wrong with it, and then I'm thinking, "Well, no. He's going to tell me he's got to go order a part." He said, "No, I got the parts in the truck." So the guy had the parts that he needed and he did what he needed to do. He'd been here about two-and-a-half hours because he had to rebuild the blower motor but he went back to his truck and put the system out there.
I have also recommended to other people that they get Home Shield. I'm going to transfer my Home Shield in my new house but I'm thinking I've got to work out something with my realtor so the realtor can recommend that the new homeowner can get Home Shield when I sell the house to them.

Both AHS and ARS Plumbing are in collusion to commit fraud by charging excessive amounts for items that are not broken. AHS sent ARS Plumbing (Houston) to fix a hot water heater that was not working properly; I own two hot water heaters, one was 3+ years old while the other 20+ years. The one that was 3+ years old had a problem with kill switch and thermocouple, while the older was totally fine and only flaw was its age. ARS saw big dollar signs and tried to address the older water heater by replacing it when that was not required. They ignored the problem with the water heater that was giving me issues.
Since last December, I'm having the Hot Water challenges and it has yet to be fixed. Finally this week, AHS had sent another plumbing company to address the ills and fix the kill switch. However, I'm in contention with the old hot water heater that was fraudulently addressed by ARS; I have spent $703 to ARS and another $300 to a roofing company, all for a heater that wasn't even broken. Both AHS and ARS are throwing their hands in the air, harassing me to pay another $750+ to get the overdue on the not-broken water heater they replaced. I have worked with both companies diligently to no avail. This is definitely fraud: they are trapping consumers into something that was not required for them to do. They are too quick in finding ways to charge the customers and too slow at fixing the issues. I would not recommend either AHS or ARS Plumbing.

Their solution is to refer us to United Air Temp, who cannot get out to our home for 5 days, and even then, cannot give us a range of time when they can arrive. For 5 years, AHS has been sending a/c companies to our home who charge us a small fortune to put coolant into our a/c system. They are not "shielding" our home from problems because they refuse to acknowledge that our a/c needs to be replaced. They send us to a vendor who cannot provide service in a timely fashion.
When I complained to AHS, here is the (utterly baffling) response: "Unless it is 100 degrees, we cannot send another company to your home. It must be UAT." Whaaat??? When I pay for service, I expect SERVICE. I expect action when a failure has occurred, just as AHS expects payment from me in exchange for a promise of service. They fall short of their commitments by contracting with dubious providers. I discourage ANYone from doing business with either AHS or United Air Temp.

The problem first started the day before we called AHS. We just purchased the home so we had not had any previous issues. It was fairly simple when we filed a claim. We called, told them that we had an issue, and they sent someone out within a day or two. The contractors that they sent out were great, courteous, on time and had no issues. Everything's working fine after the repair. Overall AHS gives us hassle-free and positive experience.

Our problem was with our master bath. The drains upstairs had always gurgled but it changed to a different sound so we called American Home Shield. I tried submitting the claim a couple of times by phone but was forever on hold. When I did it online, however, it didn't take a minute and they got right back to me. So, that's definitely the way to go. The contractor was clean, neat, professional and helpful. He also answered the questions of my husband. The work was done quickly and efficiently, and it is looking excellent now. We will definitely renew at the end of the year. We bought an older house so there will be times that we'll be needing AHS again.

I'm a realtor and I recommend AHS to my clients all the time. Most recently we submitted a claim and had our ducts looked at and when we went to get those taken care of, they had to pull the evaporator coil and that's when they found out that the pin in evaporator coil was rusted out. The A coil came out and had been taken out of the furnace and the A coil is a part of the air conditioning. It's been removed and it's not necessary to run the heater. We need to get it repaired before we turn the air conditioner on because I have no air conditioner right now, but I don't need it. They came out and we decided to go ahead and put a whole new furnace. It went pretty good from start to finish.

We called AHS to repair the same dishwasher several times and paid several trip charges. The washer may work for short while then broken again. I called last week to start another round repair process (paid another $75), the service guy came twice in one week and still can not fix the problem. I called the customer service. They told me they can not replace it until the service man say it is not repairable. We could not use our dishwasher for several months and I still do not know when they can fix it. Will never do business with this company.
Hi Kevin, we regret to hear of the troubles you're experiencing with your dishwasher service work order. We would like to get a case manager involved if that is okay?

Two weeks ago, we had water dripping down from the ceiling. I left a message by the phone in making the claim and it all went very easy. AHS contractors from Resurrection Plumbing have been fantastic. They were polite, professional and responsive. It took them a few visits to get the problem finally diagnosed. But I have been very pleased with them every step of the process and the leak is all fixed.
Great feedback, Scott! Thank you, we genuinely appreciate it and we’re happy to hear you’re happy with your home warranty!

AHS has been really good about getting someone out there, very prompt, and overall, it's pretty good. I called AHS at 2:00 in the morning because our heat was broken and it was freezing in our house and I was in a panic mode. The next day, the people called and we set it up and they came that night and fixed it. The contractor was really nice. Within five minutes, he had figured out what had happened and he said, "I'll run to my shop, get the part, and be right back." He had it fixed probably within 20 minutes. It was great!

I have been a customer of American Home Shield for 8 yrs. and have used them maybe once or twice for minor repairs. Well this year my refrigerator failed so I reached out to the company for repair. The company has set up 5 service calls so far and still over a month later I have no refrigerator and I have not received not one call back from a manger for help. I have left over 10 messages for a manager to call me back. You will only get customer service reps on the phone who are scripted to say that they will leave a message for a manager to call you back.
Here are the repairs so far: replaced the board, replaced the board again, replaced the fan, replaced the thermostat, replaced the compressor. I have explained to customer service that I have lost a lot of money in food because after each repair I am told that the fridge is working and it is not. The company states that they will replace the appliance if they can't repair it and please know that this has yet to happen after over a month without my refrigerator. I sincerely recommend that you shop other companies and ask questions prior to purchasing home insurance.
The first would be a test call to see how long it takes for a manager to return your call. This company has no other numbers available on the web but customer service and they have trained their service reps to keep calls from getting to managers. This has been a very ridiculous and stressful time. This company will not respond and you will be stuck dealing with customer service reps who are not qualified and do not have the authority to make decisions outside of ordering repair services. I encourage you to do your homework and make test calls prior to purchasing home insurance and if you take my advice I am 100% sure that you will decide that AHS is not offering the customer service promised to customers.
Hi Lea, if you don't mind, I would like to have a case manager contact you to resolve the ongoing issues you're experiencing with your refrigerator.

The water heater stopped heating, and it had stopped heating for a couple of weeks before I had enough money to pay for the service call. It was leaking on the floor and we weren't getting hot water. When I submitted the claim for it, it wasn't as great as usual. Usually it's very seamless but I was on hold for 15 minutes before I got to talk to someone. I had two questions and by the time I had the second question ready to ask, she hung up so I had to wait on hold for another 17 minutes to ask the second question.
It was two days til they got somebody assigned to make the repair, and then it was another two days til he came out which was partly my fault because he had an opening available, but I had an appointment so I had to wait a couple days til he had another opening. Good thing the repair was covered. The guy that came was absolutely fantastic. He did the job and was clean, polite, professional, and he knew what he was doing. And now the new water heater is great!

The heat wasn't working so I called up their agent. He put the process in, got everything processed within the hour, and within an hour or two, the service provider called to schedule the appointment. Their contractor was excellent, on the ball. The person that came out was able to diagnose it quickly, ordered the part the same day. He came back the following day in the afternoon, replaced the part, and everything worked fine. He knew what he was doing and that's very nice as a consumer to know that whoever comes out, they know exactly what to look for to take care of the problem and gets it fixed the first time. Plus the entire claim was painless and very pleasant.
Great feedback David! Thank you for sharing your experience with others, we look forward in assisting you in the future.

I've been trying to get my water heater replaced since March 6th, 2015 when my water heater broke down. AHS supplied me with 2 contractors, one that never answered their phone all afternoon & the second came out on Sat. This contractor assessed that I did need a new water heater but refused to service it or call it in for authorization. I finally got authorization this morning to get it replaced and the contractor is charging me $1,049 for "modifications" and AHS won't pay for these as these are required according to this contractor to install my water heater. The contractor refused to give me a list of what these modifications were. AHS finally gave them to me over the phone & changed one of the items but kept the original price.
I called the original contractor that installed my water heater - he quoted me $1,200-$1,300 to replace and install it including any modification required. He confirmed that I am being ripped off and I'm telling everybody about this! This is the short version of everything AHS put me through this weekend. I still don't have hot water!

Took a while to submit a claim as we got recordings, I guess they were busy answering high volume calls, but you can do it online so we ended it up doing it online, automated type thing. The contractor took a couple of days to get in touch with us but the problem wasn’t life-threatening, not a heater or air conditioner, just a small item. He was polite and knowledgeable and he explained things to us so everything went well.
I would recommend AHS to most homeowners. It's well worth the money. It is wise to have a warranty on your home and your appliances because you just never know when it will come in handy. It saves you from spending too much.

I woke up one day at 3:00 in the morning and the house was cool. I went down and the furnace wasn't running - the temperature was below zero outside and I needed my furnace running. So I called AHS and filed a claim without any difficulty. I simply called the service department and they told me who the vendor would be, when they would be calling me, and gave me their number should they not call in a timely fashion. That went well. It took a couple of days but other than that, I have no complaints. The technician who they sent initially couldn't resolve the problem but he was a very professional young gentleman, seemed to be very knowledgeable, and we got along quite well.

I recently had a problem with my thermostat. Now normally I could wait a few days for a repairman to repair it, but this time it was quite different. We had just returned from an overseas vacation and I was a bit under the weather with a cold and wanted nothing more than just to be in a nice and warm bed. But due to the lateness of the hour that we returned I simply went to sleep, being so weary and ill. I woke up late again the next day but decided to go online and request service via the AHS website. The next day I received a call from the contractor at around 7:30 am and he had it repaired by 8:30 am the same day. That was the best service call ever. I am glad that we chose AHS.

Called AHS to schedule a plumber for kitchen sink. AHS hired a plumber who came out once and claimed they could not fix the problem. I subsequently hired my own plumber who fixed the issue and submitted an invoice. AHS denied my claim and charged me $75 for their plumber who could not fix the issue. I subsequently cancelled my contract and they refused to reimburse me for remaining contract term claiming that they were forced to pay for plumber they hired (who once again did not fix the problem).

We had a fire in the garage back in 2007 but since then it had been fixed. We hadn't had any issues with that particular outlet, and it wasn't related to that outlet that caused the fire. My husband got up one morning and went out in the garage, he plugged the heater in to warm it up out there, and the outlet tried to catch on fire so he immediately unplugged everything, and it blew the breaker, so the breaker was off.
I made the call and put in the request for a technician to come out and do the repair. I really like being able to go online and file claims because it is easy but after I filed the claim, the company did not call me right away until I called and they found out what the problem was. They called me right back and decided they were going to come right out since it was possibly a fire hazard. So the only suggestion that I have is there should be options on the type of electrical issue being claimed. Putting some way in there to give a brief description of what the problem is would be helpful. That aside, the contractor they sent out was wonderful and the outlet's working perfectly ever since.

My heater/furnace would light but once it lit and the blower came on, it would cut off. I thought it was a sensor issue. I phoned American Home Shield and they said it would be 24 hours before they could get anybody out. Luckily, it only got down to 67 degrees in the house that night. The gentleman called up before he came the next day. After the fix and it has worked fine ever since. The gentleman also left me a receipt, and he wrote on the receipt what was wrong with it. The contractors were called HCI Contracting and I was impressed because we have a snow storm here that night and I thought for sure they would cancel. They showed up when they told me they were going to show up, called before they got there to make sure I was home, and identified the problem fairly quickly. After that, they had the part reinstalled within a couple hours. The whole thing was taken and done in a timely manner. I think American Home Shield did a good job and the unit is working well after the repair. The guys AHS sent were great. That's why I keep them on retainer.

There was a time years ago when I was a realtor (before I had to retire), in all of the homes that I listed, I suggested American Home Shield to home-buyers because I know their reputation. American Home Shield has always responded to us in a positive manner. We never had to call them back a second time. We never had to wait more than a day or two to have somebody respond to us. The young man sent by AHS was very professional. I felt that he went over and above what he needed to do because I'm on a cane and very disabled. This is the second time that he's been out to my house, and I’ve never had a problem with him. We lived in Tennessee and we had them with that home. We've lived here since 1999. When we came back, right away we contacted AHS. We have and we will continue to recommend them!

The experience with the folks that I deal with has always been pretty good. But I’m frustrated with the claims process because it seems to take forever to get something done and nobody’s willing to completely fix the problem. I've had problems with my heat and air unit for the last three winters. The unit is probably 22, maybe 23 years old, supposedly covered under the warranty but certainly just keeps getting band-aids put on top of it.
The problem is American Home Shield don't do the service and they hire that out to somebody else. I wish AHS had more options for people if they have issues with the company they send. I have humongous issues with the company that they choose to use here in the Nashville area. I don’t have any confidence that the last set of repairs that were done will last for any length of time. I know it can stop working at any minute.
