American Home Shield is prompt and efficient. I submitted a claim for my AC, and they recommended a contractor, who I called and gave me an appointment. They showed up, promptly diagnosed the problem, replaced the defective part since they had the part on their truck, fixed it, and then drove off, which was great.

American Home Shield suits my purpose. The contractors that they sent have been terrific but submitting a claim and speaking to their representative is difficult. Also, I referred friends and they received a less service call fee than myself, which I resent. They’re in the same area and even further out from the capital city.

It's comforting to have American Home Shield. About six months ago, I had to call them to have someone look at my air conditioning unit because it stopped working. AHS led me to the right people. It was very easy to call them and they were out within only hours, before the next day. Their service was great. The technician was fabulous. He wasn't interested in gouging me but in helping me fix the situation. He could've led me astray but it was only a matter of putting some of the sealant and picking a part for me. He was able to do that and be on his way.

My air conditioner went out so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield, and it was very easy. They are aware that I am disabled and need to have air conditioning, so they were here first thing in the morning and were very nice and polite. They got to the job and cleaned their mess up when they were done, which was nice. The experience has been great. The only issue we have is that their prices keep going up and up. We have been with them for fifteen years and we don’t know if we'll be able to continue to afford them. Other than that, it's a service that everybody ought to have. I have recommended American Home Shield everywhere.

I called AHS to submit a claim about our air conditioning. It was fairly easy doing it. The tech who fixed my AC came promptly and was very neat. He cleaned up after himself and I was very pleased. The technicians they've sent so far are very, very personable and knowledgeable. They clean their feet before they come in and are just wonderful. I would definitely recommend them.

I have three contracts with American Home Shield in three different properties. I filed a claim via phone and online but I'd rather have a phone confirmation like the last one I did - I had a claim for an air conditioning unit on one of my rental properties and they took care of the problem. Their contractors are good, for the most part, and the quality of the repairs have been very good. I did have one sub-par contractor but I called up American Home Shield and they sent someone else who took care of the problem. I'd certainly recommend this company.

In 2003, I couldn't make a claim when I wanted to because they said my appliances weren't covered. They were only covered for a year. I've been paying for 12 years and I used it once in 2003, just after I moved into this house and I haven't made a claim since. But I'm covered in case. My most recent claim was when my air conditioner went on the fritz which was two months ago. When I called, it was supposed to be a five-day wait but it's really hot here and everybody's air conditioner was going kaplooey.

The first person that AHS contacted, I contacted them too and they were way backed up. So I called AHS and they gave me another carrier who came within two days and did a good job. He was really good and fast. He knew what he was doing and was very helpful. He fixed it and we got cooled off because we were roasting here. My major appliances were covered but not my other ones. I did not understand in the beginning that I paid this amount of money but I had to renew it every year on the small appliances which I already did in July after the contractor explained things to me. I hope if I have to make a claim on a small appliance, they come out and don't say "Oh you're not covered" because I'm paying $20 more a month for that insurance which I hope covers my washer, dryer, fridge and stove.

Another issue was that they had my zip code wrong for the longest time so I never got my mail. I'm right on the borderline of the county and so they think it's the code for the next two blocks over. That's why I got stuck with paying my own repair because I had no idea that I wasn't covered. That went on for years but they finally got it right. They got to be more specific when signing up for the first time that we got to renew that home appliance thing every year because that was not explained. I thought I was set for however long I paid this insurance for whatever they said they covered in the beginning but that wasn't the case. But I found out the hard way. But so far, so good. I'm not changing.

I joined American Home Shield about 4 months ago. Our dishwasher has water that keeps coming in the bottom of it and my husband said it's been that way for three days. When it's set too long, it's going to start to smell so I'm planning to call AHS and say it's still not working. They have tried to fix it three times and this will be the fourth to have somebody come to my house for the same appliance. I didn't have a great experience with the rep who came by in the beginning at all. The second guy who came was okay. The third one was the first rep who came.

I have been frustrated with this company since my first claim. They came to fix my AC only to fill my unit with freon so it could all leak out again in 3 months. They didn't do a thorough investigation of my unit, they took the easy way out since the fine print said I had to pay for freon ($100 per pound - $500 total). I know they took the easy way because when I had the unit replaced on my own, the technician said the coil was severely deficient and worthless. (I saw it with my own eyes).

So I filed a claim to get reimbursed at least to recover some of the money I had to pay out of pocket. Come to find out my address was mysteriously not in the system, even though the email I got from them when I signed up was accurate. And they only had a record of service requested on a water heater, which I never requested. So I don't know if I'll ever get reimbursed. This company is very untrustworthy or incompetent and I don't know which is worse. They have told me they are researching what happened to my account!

They worked well to get someone to come out and take care of the problem. All of the technicians they've sent have been very knowledgeable in what they're doing. I haven't had any problem with them, they react really well to the customers.

One time, I needed technicians for my water heater but they didn't get them until about 7:00 in the evening. We were thinking it was going to be two or three hours but they worked together so well and within an hour's time, they had my new hot water heater in and the old one out. There were three of them who came and they brought a runner to come across my carpet so that they wouldn't be running the cart over it. One wouldn't know that they've been here. Everything was clean and I was really impressed with them.

The last service I had with American Home Shield worked out great. Submitting a claim to them was pretty easy. I went on a website and put the service in there. And, within an hour or so, I received a call from the agency for me to set up an appointment. That's convenient to me. The contractor that showed up was friendly and straightforward. There wasn't a problem with my AC and I was really happy because the contractor went ahead and told me there was nothing wrong with it instead of just cleaning off and charging me (other places that I go to are trying to persuade me into something else).

A good highlight for me is that it feels like AHS already worked out those different agencies. (One of my problems that I have is I don't like going to a place that I don't know anything about it.) And since they are already a working partner with AHS, this makes it easier on my side. I don't have time to deal with house problems cause I work. It was my first time dealing with American Home Shield and they have fixed all my problems so far.

They always have to come in and assess, then order the part and wait for the part to come in, and come back to do the repair. But it's relatively painless submitting a claim with them and everything's been fine with the technicians sent out to our home. I did take note of a visit when A&E came out to do the repair and charged me a tax above and beyond the $75 service fee, which I've never experienced before.

I'm very pleased with American Home Shield. My most recent claim with them was my garage door opener that stopped working. Their contractor came over, looked at it and replaced the latch door opener. It's working great now. I paid my $75.00 deduction on it because they installed and did everything. The contractor was professional and courteous.

Also about two years ago, my water heater went out. They sent me a letter in the mail letting me know that I could get insurance. They said that it's a different thing and that they would take care of the other issues. About a week later, my water pressure went low throughout the whole house, so I don’t know if that’s 30 days of being on the warranty. I had a gentleman come out. He looked at it and said that it would cost me about $1500 to have everything replaced because of something outside that is required to make it work. It's plumbing on the outside of my house. When I called a man to see it and told them what was going on and that it was still less than 30 days, they tested everything outside and found out that in the garage they had to turn off something. Calcium had built up which caused water to stop flowing in the whole house. So, all that is supposed to cost me $2000, I only paid $75. They have been reliable.

Was still charged 150.00$ from the other company who said they would've been free for a "diagnostic visit".

This air conditioning company also told me American Home Shield would not pay for a new unit. Mind you I have had it serviced several times and it is over 10 years old. They said AHS would replace a motor for 500.00$ placing it inside the very old dead unit. It was hard to believe but true. It took me over a week to confirm that I no longer want this horrible service that AHS provides - each time spending a minimum of 40 minutes on hold. Terrible customer service!!!

The technicians have been great when they had the parts but it's like they come out, look at everything, and can't service what needs to be fixed. They have to call and order parts, and come back and service it in another week. This is what's currently happening to my washer, so I have to wait 3 weeks to have something done. If they had the parts with them, they could have had the work completed.

I just spoke with Daryl in the Social Media department. He apologized for the fact that a supervisor did not return the call placed in August. He stated that he would immediately resolve the matter by removing the service fee from my account.

Furthermore, he provided me with his contact information should there be any issue with the matter in the future. I am satisfied and this has changed my opinion of the company. However, I am disappointed that it took a negative review to receive the callback.

    Original Review: Sept. 23, 2015

We received a one year home warranty as part of the closing on our recent home purchase. After getting recommendations from our realtor and researching online, we chose to buy the warranty from American Home Shield (AHS). Little did we know that we would be testing out the company less than two weeks after moving into our home.

On July 24th I called AHS to obtain a pre-approval and schedule a service call. I told the lady who took the call very clearly that I was calling about a window air conditioning unit. My words were something like "it is a window unit that is installed into a wall because there is no window there." The lady stated that this would then be a wall air conditioner which was in fact covered. She took the rest of the information and told me someone would contact me soon to schedule an appointment. Fortunately the repair company was able to schedule a technician for the following morning.

After checking out the issue, the technician came to me with his phone and stated that the unit was not covered under the warranty. I assured him that it was because I had called the previous day. He then handed me the phone and I spoke with Patricia. She explained that a mistake had been made in stating that the air conditioning unit was covered. In fact, it was not covered because it was a window unit. I shared with her the details of my call to AHS the previous day for pre-approval. She stated that she was sorry but that person had provided incorrect information. At this point I indicated that I understood the error but stated that I did not feel that I should have to pay the service call fee since the error was AHS's fault. Patricia agreed and stated that she would cover the cost of the service call fee and I ended the call.

A few minutes later the technician again came to me with the phone because he was having difficulty getting the authorization number from AHS to cover the service call fee. I replayed the entire conversation with a man whose name I failed to write down. At the end of our conversation he asked to speak to the technician. He then provided the technician with the authorization number. It seemed that everything had come out fine and that the company had honored their promise but unfortunately, my relief was premature.

On August 19th I received a bill from AHS for the $75 service call fee. I immediately called to dispute the issue. Mike answered my call. He reported that there were no notes on my account indicating that Patricia or the next person I spoke with had agreed to cover the service call fee. Now remember, the second person had to have given the technician an authorization number to pay the fee because that technician would not have left my home without payment of some sort!

The phone conversation with Mike devolved into a discussion of internal procedures for the dispute which, not being an employee of the company, I found hard to follow. After a lengthy conversation Mike told me that a supervisor would have to pull the tape of the call I had with Patricia in order to find out if my report was true. I also suggested that he have the supervisor listen to the initial call for the pre-approval. Mike told me that the supervisor would call me after listening to the tape.

The supervisor never called back. Today, September 23rd, I received another bill from AHS. Obviously the 30 minutes I spent on hold waiting to speak to Mike and the subsequent conversation had done nothing to resolve the issue. I am now resorting to posting a negative review in the hope that someone from the company will actually return my call or contact me via email. The bottom line is that I can afford to pay the $75 service fee but I should not have to do so due to the error of an AHS employee. My concern is that this may have happened to other consumers.

Every time I call them they are saying "we have to contact supervisor" and "he will call you back." Guess what? No call. It is not about the money, at this point it is about principle. In our experience so far with American Home Shield, it depends which appliance has a problem. The air conditioning people they have here in our area in Miami are terrible and they don't come. So I have called my own people, even though I'm a member of American Home Shield, since air conditioning in Miami is a necessity. I'm not signing up with them next year because I cannot wait three days for them to come.

The American Home Shield customer service is so long it makes one not want to wait but then not have a choice but to do so. I always waited at least 20-30 minutes every time I called them to put in claims for the plumbing and the problem with my dryer. They tell me to go online but that's something I don't like to do because I know their whole time is forever. Sometimes they don't get back to you, but they're getting better.

My first experience was when I first got the insurance and a guy came out from them to check my ceiling fan which started making noise about three months ago. The person let me know that his company was 15 miles from here and this was too far for him - he didn't want to come down here - and that was not his problem. He told me the ceiling fan doesn't make any noise. I told him it's the company that called him, not me. Nobody in a business would speak to a customer like that. He was the owner of his business and if that's something he says to a customer then he's got problems. They never sent him back so thank goodness. I wouldn't want his services anyway. Since I complained about that company American Home Shield has sent me very good ones. Other than that, everything was great.

24-hour service is only for someone to come and take a look, not repair. Repairs may take weeks. They take their own time to review, search, authorize, and order the parts, that come via snail-mail. Their contractor will point out some issue which is written in fine-lines in the contract as 'uncovered' (you need a lawyer to interpret them) and they will charge you additional money. In my experience about $200 to $400 for water heater, $1000+ for A/C etc.

In case unit is expensive, they will delay it so much that you cry. Then they will offer a Cash-In-Lieu option, which takes another 3-4 days to authorize. The best bet for them is that you give up, purchase your own and get replaced, and they will reimburse you half of that. Their operators will keep apologizing that they can't help, but will never connect to the supervisors. There is no way to escalate the issue. Supervisors will call back in 24 hours. If you missed it, you are back in line for another 24 hours call back.

Some take care of it quicker and better than others. AHS must stay on top of it and if the contractors aren’t up to standard, they replace them. One contractor was very rude and didn’t speak to me very kindly and was accusing me of things. He didn’t even have the right customer. He thought he was talking about a different one. I reported him and American Home Shield got right on it. It all worked out okay.

As far as American Home Shield themselves - they do follow up, make sure the problems been taken care of. The contractors said that they could not fix it the way I was asking because there was a part missing. So, it's functioning but how do you miss a part? I can’t get the contractors to answer me because they said they were waiting for American Home Shield to respond to them. And I never heard back. It's a brand new unit but I think it wasn't working properly so I called American Home Shield and these contractors came out. They've come out here before but this is the first time they told me that they can't fix it, and it would cost me because there's a missing part. But the part was there. It was not like I'm in the habit of jumping on my roof and taking parts off.

Overall, I would still recommend American Home Shield because there’s no proof that the contractors got in touch with them and said, “We won't fix this. We have been with AHS for 14 years with no major problems. Our air conditioning unit needed repair from time to time. In May of 2015 it was determined it needed to be replaced. It was replaced with a unit not compatible with the air handler. After many visits from repairmen that AHS selected, they finally agreed to replace the air handler. The Air Conditioning folks forced us to dig a trench on the opposite side of the house where the original trench is located. We complied and in turn they submitted a ridiculous bill to AHS of additional charges totaling $1600.00. AHS is requesting we pay the air conditioning people without checking the validity of the charges. The Air Conditioning folks made it clear to us they were not getting paid enough from AHS.

That is what is upsetting. It is obvious they are padding the costs to make more money. What is the point of a home warranty if they do not advocate for their paying clients. At this point we have spent the entire summer in our home in South Carolina without central air. We had to invest in portable units. Here it is the end of September and there is another block. We are completely frustrated with this company and their antics. After spending 14 years with AHS and this is the way they operate when you have a major appliance that needs replacement, speaks volumes about this company. At this point they have us between a rock and a hard place because they are not willing to get another opinion on the excessive charges. Now AHS want to offer us a buy out.

So they put in the required amount of a new type of Freon (they don't use regular Freon anymore), turned it on, and it works fine now.

They also did some work with the heating and cooling unit inside the house. But my wife wasn't too happy about that because they did things that were unnecessary, in her opinion. We didn't need any of that. But the machine is working fine now. It's getting hot outside. The outside machine is working just fine and we've got no complaints otherwise. Our water heater broke on April 19. We called AHS to have it fixed and were told that the Water Heater was not on our contract. I told the person that I had asked for it to be included but never saw the contract as they never sent me a final version of it. A supervisor called me that evening and told me that the best they can do is review my original sales call from that previous August and if I did ask for the Water Heater - they would cover it. I asked him to look into it. He told me it would take a couple of days to get the info. Thank goodness I have family within a mile so my 5 yr old could take baths and we could shower there.

A few days goes by, I call back and am then told it can take a week to pull a call! So I ask "What should I do?" They say "Buy a water heater and get reimbursed." So we do. And a week later my call still hadn't been pulled. No reason as to why... I tell them to stop charging me until they pull the call because things are seeming "NOT RIGHT". I call every 2 weeks for a couple of months in hopes of getting some answers and getting some of the $1300 reimbursed for the water heater. I sent a full letter about my problems in June in hopes of getting a response (no phone calls, no response). The people you call just say "We aren't sure how to help you. We'll have someone call you." Someone calls me in July and I am hopeful - but nope they just wanted me to know that I owe for my contract! I explain what happened she looks at the notes in my file and is shocked and says she will look into it (never hear back from her).

In August I call as I get a statement saying I'll be canceled at the end of the month if I don't pay (I just want them to pull the call!!!). I finally get someone who has the call pulled and tells me I'll get a call in 45 minutes (yep - no one calls me back!). 2 days later I call back to find out that they canceled me and that the call was pulled but they couldn't make out what was said. They'd have someone call me about it. I filed with the BBB... the only response I got from that was that my contract did not have a water heater on it which was what I was asking them to look into to begin with.

This company does not care about service. You can't get a hold of the right people to get things fixed when they are screwed up. I'm thankful that we had extra money to pay for the water heater - I'm not sure what people do who don't have that kind of cash. I really feel like the company is a scam... no one seems to know what is going on. You just get someone different every time you call and you get the same answer - someone will call you back but no one does. It took 4 months to get my call pulled. I asked them to pull it because I KNOW what I requested and in the end they still could not say that I didn't ask for it they just chose to say NOTHING. Do yourself a favor and DON'T use this company!

This is my first time dealing with a home warranty as I have lived in apartments thus far. I just moved into my new home and noticed that water was leaking in the floorboards of the hallway right in front of the hallway bathroom and decided that I needed to call American Home Shield (AHS) to have it looked at before it ruined the floors. Called the day before. Used the "automated service" that generated a contractor for the job who would call to make an appointment. After getting off the phone with AHS, I researched the servicing company who would be coming out and noticed really bad reviews about the company, even stating that the company was sent out by AHS and they had to have it re-serviced by another contractor.

I tried to call AHS and speak to an actual representative to discuss if I could choose the contractor who would service my home and she stated that "After you request a service repair, the next available vendor that we contract with is given to you". I asked if I could choose one of the vendors they contracted with and she said, "We are unable to do that because the next available vendor is given to you when you request a service repair". I then asked if I would receive a refund of the service charge if the company they choose was unable to get them done. The customer service representative (CSR) then proceeded to HANG UP ON ME. Bottom line, I was unable to figure out why the vendor had to do a poor job before I could use another more preferred vendor for the job of fixing my first home. Second, I have never had a CSR hang up on me. It's likely that we will not be staying with this company for long.

Their representatives have always been very nice and helpful. The problem is getting to speak to an agent without having to go through all of the information at the beginning of the call. It’s the whole process of trying to get someone, then to telling him/her what we need, and then contacting the right person we need to talk to. That’s annoying. We would prefer it if we call, someone answers and tells us what we need.

Through the years, we've had our clothes washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven and air conditioning serviced by AHS. The contractors they've sent have all been polite, but 75% of them have a problem with the English language. It's difficult when they're foreigners and we can't communicate well with them or when they don't seem to understand what we're telling them. It's been fine after repairs, but there have been times when a job couldn't be completed the initially by the first person sent or a part is not available and someone else had to come back. But it all worked out in the end. Overall, we've had nothing but good service from AHS and I have recommended them.

I’ve had a house for 27 years and have had American Home Shield in that house that whole time. They’ve been good through all those times. Nothing ever happened and I keep paying them. But I had some problems with them regarding the AC unit of the house. Since the house is a rental property, an old lady used to stay there. She went through some discomfort because the heating and air conditioning weren’t working. The air conditioner is 40 years old and it keeps going on and off. In a month or two, AHS sent people from the same company out there six times to fix it. I got lucky a couple of times because it went out before the 30 days that they had come out on their own.

Since the last time they fixed it, it hasn’t broken down yet. But if it happens again, there’s only going to be another band-aid that’s going to go on it and it’s going to keep happening. Companies like that get paid for making such calls. I don’t know if they give any information back to AHS. AHS doesn’t tell me anything. But each time the people from the company came, they wrote on the bill that the unit needs to be replaced. They also wrote at the back of the bill what it would cost to replace it. The thing is, they are all from the same company, but they wrote different costs for the replacement. That’s not a nice game. Whenever I call AHS and tell them what I need, they say, “Okay, we’ll send somebody out.” I tell them to give me an advance notice because it takes me a few minutes to get there from where I live.

But this time when I called AHS, I said to the rep, “You keep sending the same people out to the house. I don’t want them to come back because I’m having problems with them. They take too long to come out and they don’t do a good job. A week later that thing is down again.” I wanted them to send someone different – the guy that takes care of the air conditioning in this area and not from the same company that they send every time. I also wanted them to do an evaluation on whether the air conditioning needed to be replaced or not. The woman said yes, but noted that I had to pay for the service call of $75. I said I had no problem with that. She then asked if the unit was still running.

When I said yes, she said, “We don’t normally send somebody out if it’s running.” But since I wanted an evaluation, she said they’ll send someone out. When a man came out and noted that it was running, the woman said, “We’re not going to do anything about it.” I raised hell with AHS. I told her that I’m not going to leverage with AHS and will start looking. I have six different houses with them and I cheated and went to their competitor because of this problem. I have people in the house and I have the responsibility to make sure that the stuff there works. I just got another house and that went another route. One thing is for sure, there’s a $10 difference with the competitor. It’s $65 for them to go out.

I have a lady who’s bedridden in another house. When I called about problems with the air conditioning, the competitor company called someone who was not in their payroll and set up the repair for me. A guy came and looked at the problem and told me that the cost would be $950 to fix it. The insurance company told me I’ll have to pay for it and then they’ll reimburse me. After that, it’s all in the books. After three weeks, I got the bill. They had taken care of the service call. I paid the bill and they reimbursed me for it. That was giving me service. I don’t get that from AHS with my house of 27 years. I pay all my bills with AHS for preventive maintenance. I paid the money for all those years and nothing happens. I didn’t have to have AHS, but that’s why it’s called insurance. I still have AHS on my house but my bill hasn’t come up yet for renewal so I did test the water with another company.

I’ve recommended AHS to other for years, but this thing with the air conditioner has gotten so far out of control. AHS kept sending people and I kept paying $75 for all that to go round and round. They could have just replaced it. They neglected and would not care for it. I don’t understand why companies would not take care of an issue like this. So, no, I wouldn’t recommend them now.

First, trying to reach American Home Shield has just been extremely difficult. I gave up a couple of times after waiting for more than an hour. They estimated the wait time to be about 10 minutes and it appeared as if after about 45 minutes, I was transferred to another line and then put on another hold. That was just really bad. Now the plumber is out here and had a company come out to detect the leak but the leak where they marked it is not where it is. It appears to be some 3 or 4 feet away from where it was. The contractor still hasn't been able to find the leak for more than three hours now, after they said they will just dig but wrongly placed the leak in bathroom and then the hallway where they had to bust the tiles up. It isn't pretty and it's unnecessary.

The base level of my house now has dust all over and tiles that's gonna have to be replaced. We're gonna have to re-tile the hallway. I have to get someone to help me come and clean the house with dust. They're now having the leak detection company come back out again and I was initially told that it would take an hour and a half for them to come, then now it's Monday or Tuesday until they're able to get other people out here to do this and get the work done and that's unacceptable.

The service before has been decent, but I can't say it's good. I have another property and there have been some problems. I didn't appreciate that the person who came out was very insulting to my daughter who was there. I was about to call the CEO of the company because I'm not pleased with the service. The other thing was when I paid for the contract this year, they had promised that the first service visit would be waived. Then I find that they didn't have a reference for that from the person that took the order.

We reported a problem to AHS to repair the connector problem. First it takes more than 20 minutes to report a problem to AHS. Their customer service response time is always greater than 20 minutes. We got a call back from their contact only after two weeks. It takes that long for a callback. The contractor came to inspect the problem. He looked at it and said he requires 650 dollars to remove the sink and repair the pipe. My question is if the pipe is connected to the sink, he (AHS) has to remove the sink to repair it. Why would the customer have to pay to remove the sink?

So we got back to AHS and they mentioned since the pipe enters through tile it cannot be repaired. They told us to remove the tile so they could repair the pipe. Ultimately they gave us another option. They asked us to repair it and they would pay us 175 dollars to repair the pipe. This seems rather ridiculous. When they have to pay out it costs only 175 dollars. I do not know any plumber who will repair a pipe and fit it back for only 175 dollar.

I have been waiting 3 weeks to get my central air conditioner repaired. A service representative came to my home initially 3 days after I first asked for service from Tri's AC out of Alexandria LA.. He tried to repair the system with a board that he had in his truck, but was unable to do so. The part had to be ordered. 1 week later they called to reschedule a service call. I asked that if I could be flexible on the day if they could promise to make me the first or last appointment of the day. The company they sent was unwilling to accommodate me on any level despite the fact that I work in a hospital. They called on Thursday to say that they could send someone on Friday, the first appointment of the day.

I took the entire day off to wait for the service rep. At 11AM I called them and was informed that I would be the last appointment of the day, not the first and that it would be around 4PM. No one showed up. At 7PM I finally got a call and the first question out of the mouth of the service rep was "did I have the part needed to repair my AC?" As you can imagine, I sort of lost it at that point. It is now Monday and I have not received a call of apology or any promise to repair my AC. If this does not get resolved today I will be cancelling my contract with AHS.

The last claim that I had was with my air conditioning unit. The interaction with the American Home Shield representative was great. They assessed the situation and realized that I needed to get a compressor for the unit. He ordered the part and it came in but then I needed to make another appointment with the contractor so that they could put it in. They get so busy so it took a while for me to get it because they were booked up. It ended up working out just fine. It just took a minute to figure out when they could actually come out and do it. I haven't had any more problems since the repair.

My complaint with them in general is the fact that I had another issue with my pool heater. They sent some guy out and I thought he was cracko because he said that somebody took a hammer and a screwdriver and put a hole in the tank that holds the filters. That was the only way it could have a hole in it. My husband takes care of the pool so I was a little salty about that. So they ended up sending another guy out and this guy just said that there's just certain things that they pay for and this is not. He said that American Home Shield was trying to get him to say it wasn't normal wear and tear. If they don't want to pay for it, that's fine. But don't send me a cracko saying that somebody took something and damaged it.

My most recent experience when submitting a claim for an appliance was relatively easy. They said they were going to be a little delayed on the work done, but it was excellent and I liked it. I'm going to stay with them and I recommend them highly. I've recommended them to my daughter and she's going to get in touch with them. It's excellent. Go American Home Shield.

The AHS plumbing vendor installed a new water heater just over a year ago. So imagine our surprise when we receive a report from the downstairs condo owner that the water heater was leaking into their unit causing drywall repair that I now have to pay for due to the shoddy work. There has been no offer from AHS or the vendor to pay for this additional drywall cost due to their vendor's shoddy work. The leak was reported to AHS last month and the same vendor that was sent a year ago was sent again. After a second opinion, it was determined the water heater was faulty and needed replacing... Gee, imagine that. Almost a MONTH later from the initial notice on 9/16 the water heater was installed but the story does not end there. Given this new installation by this vendor was faulty (just like the first one), we received a report today from the downstairs condo unit that the new installation is leaking.

I sent written information to AHS about this situation through their contact form, twice with no response. So to summarize, 2 water heaters installed shoddily - the faulty installation of the 1st water heater resulted in additional downstairs condo unit damages that necessitated an additional $75 service call, a $45 disposal fee for the 1st faulty water heater installed that the vendor would not waive because he said AHS wouldn't pay for the disposal fee. This water heater installed just over a year ago resulted in over a $1,000 in costs to me to have AHS install another one. AHS used to be diligent and hire good vendors. I have been a client for over 15 years and will be looking for another company for all 4 of my property warranties if they do not make this right.

Some of my experiences with American Home Shield were good and some were bad. Submitting a request is very easy, but I've had to get a repair two or three times. Right now they repaired the saltwater pump for my pool and this is the third time I'm calling them to repair it. Some of the repairs are substandard. I also called to get an air system repaired and they said there wasn't enough walkway which there was because how else could they install it? They end up saying they couldn't do the job so I had to pay for that myself. So for the fourth house that I just purchased, I got a different warranty company.

I have AHS for my house in Florida which I don't reside in but we've been having a very good experience with them. I have an agent that handles my property down there and he's the one communicating with AHS, and he's never expressed any issues. The only issue I've ever had was recently there was a garage door opener that broke down and I thought that was covered under my plan. Obviously it wasn't covered so that was the only disappointing issue I've ever had with them.

Our AC went out last Saturday and I immediately placed a service request with AHS. They sent out the request to a company that only works Mon-Fri. I didn't get a phone call from anyone until Monday afternoon and they didn't schedule the service appointment until Tuesday between 6pm-10pm. The tech showed up right at 6 and I told him what the situation was. He said he would try to fix it. After getting the AC running, the tech burned out the thermostat and the AC wouldn't start again. The tech stated that if he couldn't fix the problem in 20 minutes then he couldn't fix it at all. In the process, he also made us turn all of the fans off and we had to stay quiet so he could "hear if the AC was turning on". He was rude and disrespectful. He told us he had to get a second opinion. The next person the warranty sent out was an electrician, why I'm not sure.

The electrician stated that all electric circuits were fine. Then, the service request was sent to another AC company. By then it was Friday. The tech came out, told us that the first tech miswired the unit, he burned the thermostat and miswired that too. Every time we call the American Home Shield it's the same story, that they can't do anything without a final report from the contractor. They haven't helped us in any way to get the AC fixed or at least keep us comfortable in the meantime. They offered us $100 reimbursement for whatever purchases we make after we submit any receipts that need to be reviewed. One of the supervisors I spoke to said that they can't do anything during the weekend because business hours are Mon-Fri. In the meantime, it's in the 100s in Phoenix where we live, and we have nowhere to go but stay at home with the thermostat showing 95 degrees.

AHS is a great type of insurance for homeowners to have. It's expensive but worth the cost. I've recommended them to several people and a couple of them have added American Home Shield.

Because my AC didn't work, the air conditioner people came on Tuesday of last week and they said it's electrical. So I had to contact AHS again, but the electrical company they assigned me to only came to the area I live in two days a week. So I had to sit back and wait until they were available again on Thursday. My biggest complaint is amount of time on hold when I want to call in. I had to call twice because each time I had to find out why it was taking so long and I had to wait for the part to arrive and whatnot. And each time I called, I was on hold for almost past an hour. Their companies were fine. The communication with their companies was very nice and no problem. But their company was the pits. On a piece of paper I put down the time I called and the time that it was picked up. So you really have to either hire more operators. It's outrageous that people have to wait so long.

I also needed a confirmation number. I must have called the air conditioner guy ten times and he was still on hold trying to get his confirmation number. So it's just not the customers on hold, but also the people who are trying to do their job who are trying to get confirmation numbers. They're on hold. I spoke to the air conditioner man at 9:00 in the morning and I said "Is my part in?" and he said "No, I dont have the confirmation number." I've been on hold for the last hour already so I called back at 10:00. I said "Did you get the authorization for the part?" "No, I'm still on hold." You understand?"

It could have been a two or three day job if it wasn't for the amount of time that I spent on hold. I understand they need to cut down their wait time for tech people and they need to cut down their time for customers because it's outrageous and it's a shame because I pay good money for the policy. I've used the company for a few years and it's never been this way. This is the first year it's gotten bad. Now I don't know if they fired everybody except for two people working there. I would recommended the people who did the work. Once I got a person on the phone who was very sweet, nice and knew exactly what was going on. She was able to take care of what I wanted. And I did it the proper way. I made the appointments online but they need to work on answering their telephone. Any other company they have called would have called the Better Business Bureau by then.

We tried to file a claim to American Home Shield for getting the oven fixed but the contractor couldn’t get here for two weeks, so we paid somebody else to do it. We also encountered an issue with another contractor that American Home Shield sent out. The contractor that came in gave me us an invoice for $95 and we paid that. But then I got a bill from the contractor's company for another $25. I kept sending emails to American Home Shield to get an explanation on why the contractor billed me but no one ever responded. The contractor should have known what the contract price was so that he could have charged us appropriately when we wrote the check, and American Home Shield should have responded to my repeated emails.

The last time I had a contractor out was to work on my a/c unit. I emailed American Home Shield on a Sunday afternoon late and Monday afternoon after I got off work the young man was here. Found the problem and had it up and going within 45 minutes. Everything was explained to me and I had to pay the $100.00 fee plus for the freon to be put in, but it was worth it to me. One call does it all for me.
