The renters in one of my rent houses had moved out and I was doing some remodeling before I rented it again. That was when the AC unit went out so I called American Home Shield to have someone come out and service it. They assigned me to Mr. Fixit in Lawton who should have called me within 24 hours but they never did. I called them and they told me that they were really busy and they would call before they could come. I asked when that would be and I was told in another 24 hours.
On the seventh day, I called AHS and I told them that nobody ever came. I called Mr. Fixit once and they never called me back. I had a guy coming to lay new tiling in the house and I couldn’t get him to come and work until I got some AC in there. I asked to be referred to someone and they said that there was nobody else to assign me to. I’m a realtor and I sell these warranties all day long. I know that Altus Air does some repairs for AHS so I asked why they couldn't send Altus Air. They said that Altus Air was not taking any calls.
I waited two more days and finally, I called my service rep Kelly. I told her that I’d been waiting 10 days and I was patient long enough. She was very nice and she apologized. She asked who I wanted to come to fix the AC and I said that the only one that I know that does it and gets on it pretty quick is Altus Air. It wasn’t 20 minutes until Altus Air called me. It was four or five in the evening and I was asked if I could wait until eight o’clock in the morning. Altus Air came the next morning before eight o’clock. A very nice young man called to tell me that he would be at the house in about five minutes. I had somebody to let him in and he fixed it. He was there for about 30 minutes and everything was good. I'm very dissatisfied on that one service call with Mr. Fixit. I waited 10 days to get service so I was a little pissed. That was the worst one I’ve ever had.

I have an icemaker issue which I requested a repair for last month and I waited a couple of weeks. The technician didn't fix the problem and he came back out last week. Currently, I still haven’t gotten a call as to when that order will be arriving or when a technician's gonna come out. I also wanna renew but I don’t know why I have such a high yearly rate with AHS. Other than that, I recently submitted a claim for a leak in the shower and I got a quick response email within 24 hours. After a couple of days, Air Pro Master was sent out. The technician came and he was respectful to my home. He told me what he found, what he was gonna do next and when they were gonna come back since he had to order a part. They went back after a week and fixed the leak right then and there.

Everything went smoothly in submitting the claim regarding the microwave that stopped heating up. The contractor AHS sent out was good and usually, everybody that they sent was really good. However, you pay the plumbers the $125 fee to come out and they will way overcharge the job. In the last six years, we have rental properties under AHS and I’ve never seen a plumber charge the correct amount. They’ll come out and tell us what’s wrong, but I’ll always give it to some other plumber to finish the work.

I didn't have any plugs or outlets working in the kitchen for a month and a half, and I had that same issue six months ago. The tech that came out found a loose wire underneath the house. I had a GFCI popped, so he reset it and everything worked. He then checked everything to make sure that it was a 20-amp breaker and not a 15 where it could overload every time we turn on the toaster. He was really thorough. It was an issue on my side, but he found it and that's all that matters.
I also had a plumbing issue the month before. We didn't have any hot water for three weeks, and I had a propane company come out and they troubleshot to find out. They went over the water heater, which on the new ones there are light flashes that can be held by the code. They said I had a bad valve and they bypassed it. I used the AHS warranty and they gave me Hers & His Plumbing. I called up the contractors and they said, "We can't make it until Thursday." Thursday came, and they called me and said they were having problems. They couldn't make it until the following Thursday. That's when I called AHS back, and they got me a local place out of Lawrenceburg and in two days, they had the hot water running. Overall the people at AHS are nice. They were really good at finding me a person both times. My daughter has been using them for 10 years and she's had 'em out for all kinds of different things. I'd recommend 'em.

My air conditioner was blowing out hot air instead of cold. I easily filed a claim for it online with American Home Shield. The tech guy was several hours late but once he got here, he explained the issue. I couldn’t ask for better service. He was extremely quick, very respectful, and was able to fix the AC in one visit. I’ve had American Home Shield since I bought the house in 2000 and it has been a blessing to have them. I highly recommend this company.

American Home Shield is doing a great job and I'm glad that I opted for the service. When the air conditioner wasn't working, I submitted a claim online and it was really easy. The tech came out the next day and fixed it. He was very knowledgeable and he definitely knew what he was doing and did a quick job. I had two units, so he had to come out again for the other unit.

I currently have 15 homes covered with AHS. The microwave oven went out 2 weeks ago in one of my rentals. We had the appliance company assess the problem and they said they needed to order a part. My tenants just called the appliance company and they said that it would cost as much to replace the microwave as it would to install the new part so AHS was supposed to get back to me. Both AHS and the appliance company failed to get back to me and left both my tenants and me hanging with no action. This happened about a year ago with another rental and another issue which went on for WEEKS! Someone is dropping the ball BIG TIME and if it continues I will be transferring all of my home warranties to a more professional company.

It took a week for AHS to "approve" my air conditioning parts. That was crazy enough, but then it took another 3 weeks for the common parts to arrive. The parts (compressor and accumulator) were installed the in another day, but then the AC broke again because the pipes froze. Of course, that was on a weekend and the local HVAC company they hired does not work on the weekends. Waiting more than 3 weeks for parts is ridiculous. Having the AC break the very next day is also ridiculous. The people who answer the phones at AHS are nice and apologetic, but that does not cool the house. The local HVAC company has 2 star ratings even though it seemed like they did what they could. They can't install parts that they don't have.
When a customer has to wait 3 weeks for common parts, AHS should do everything possible to fix the problem. AHS ordered the parts and I kept getting promises of when they would arrive. Promises not kept. Seriously terrible. Waiting now for Monday to arrive to see if the local HVAC company will show up to fix the problem.

I called American Home Shield to have my downstairs air conditioning repaired. The company that they used, J-Tech Mechanical, was a really good supplier and everybody has been very professional. But they've been very unsuccessful to get my AC fixed. The first guy came to detect leaks and said that the cooling coil has weakened. So, they called me, put the order in, and told American Home Shield. Three days later, the cooling coil came in. The house is only five and a half years old and the guy said that I was out of warranty by a couple of days, so I ended up having to buy a new cooling coil and I paid them for it. Then, he put it in but about four days later, the AC was out again. The guy came out and said that the cooling coil was leaking, so he had to replace it again. But because I bought a new cooling coil, there was no charge for it. About a week later, the new cooling coil came in and he got it replaced,
But three days later, the AC was out again. He came back with two guys and they checked outside and inside. They recognized that there was a leak inside of the condenser unit on the outside unit and they contacted American Home Shield for its replacement, but I didn't hear anything for a while. About two weeks later, I got a call back from the contractors saying that the new condensing unit came in and that they wanted to schedule to come out and install it. I coordinated and scheduled times with them. Then a guy came out, took the old unit out, put the new unit in, and charged it up. It worked wonderfully. But three days later, it was hot again. So they have done a lot of work and somebody is coming to the house today to look at the unit again.
This is the fifth time that I've called about the same thing and as a customer, I have a bit more patience than others. Otherwise, I would be freaking out by now because it has been so many times. But American Home Shield has been very good and very responsive to my concerns. Every time I requested or talked to them, they have always been so understanding and patient. I would recommend American Home Shield.

The ground fall circuit that's in the garage and all the outdoor outlets wasn't functioning properly. I thought there was something wrong with either the circuit or one of the outlets so AHS sent out an electrician to take a look at it. The guy was named Sam and he was really good. He checked it all out and then he said, "What are you doing with it?" Why is it popping?" I told him I'm running a swamp cooler around my patio to keep the parts of the patio cool. He explained to me that kind of circuit and that kind of motor aren't compatible because it surges. It takes more electricity depending on the needs of the motor and that's why it trips it. But he checked all of the outlets and they're all functioning properly. He told me that the only thing that I could do was all of the outlets had to be ground fall and they all had to be wired a certain way. Other than that, I recommend AHS.

Our air conditioning unit went out, and we called American Home Shield and they couldn't get anybody out for three days. We ended up calling a regular HVAC person to come out, and the guy came but we were unsure if the unit was fixed. He said that the unit was on its way out, so we had to get somebody else out from the warranty company to see if they could look at it. We then called AHS. It was a very hot weekend and we had people coming over that day. AHS ended up finding a company that could come out that same day and look at the unit. The person who came and looked at the unit ran a bunch of tests and ended up recharging the unit and testing all the components. He deemed that it was functional. He put more Freon and charged it a lot more than what was covered, so we ended up paying additional. But when it's all said and done, he said that the unit is working good and it was producing decent cold air.
American Home Shield's representatives are always great. They're nice and friendly, but they can only do so much. After I speak with them, then it's up to trying to get a vendor to come out and facilitate the actual work. That's where the delays come to play because in the industry, especially for HVAC, people are to do a house to house. It's a dwindling business. Also, we had some problems with vendors, and AHS has a policy that the same vendor needs to come out three times before a new one can be selected. That happened with our dishwasher. They kept sending the same guy out but they finally sent somebody else out, and we ended up getting a new dishwasher because the dishwasher was broken. I would recommend AHS.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was related to my dryer. In terms of American Home Shield’s role, everything was seamless and they handled it the way I expected them to. I submitted the claim, as well as all of the claims that I’ve submitted, online through their claim system, but I haven’t been left feeling like I wish I could’ve spoken to someone. All of my experiences with the contractors have been great. In each case, the contractors came within the window that they provided. They addressed the issue really quickly and they made the repair fairly quickly, as well. All the contractors were polite and professional too.
For the plumbing jobs, they did a great job and when I checked it, it was clean. Everything that they did was what I expected and I haven’t had issues with it since. With the dryer, the technician explained the issue very clearly and he explained that he did everything that he could do to fix what could be causing the issue. The issue that I was experiencing was a shortcoming of my dryer than an actual malfunction, although there was a part that needed to be cleaned. But in each case, they communicated well the work that they left behind. It looked good from my perspective as a layman and I’ve been a satisfied customer. If my friends are going to purchase a home, I would certainly recommend American Home Shield.

Barnett Air-conditioning was sent by AHS a few weeks ago when my AC had water dripping out of the emergency drain line. The contractor was good and our interaction was perfect. However, I don’t know if AHS is worth the time and the money sometimes. I have to submit a claim and I have to wait on them too long to get a contractor over. I also wait on the contractor and I pay to have it fixed. But it is pretty valuable to have the warranty for the AC.

I wouldn't be able to go through this first year of home ownership without American Home Shield. My air conditioner has a bottom unit and a top unit and the top unit wouldn't set off. It just kept running constantly to try to cool. I submitted a claim online and it was super easy. However, I wouldn't recommend the first contractor to anybody. They sent three technicians out and couldn't figure out the problem. The fourth one was a different company and they were fabulous and found the problem. My AC has been back to normal since then. Everybody that I've talked and dealt with has been super nice and very understanding of the situation and I recommend AHS to everybody that I talk to.

We've had American Home Shield for 29 years now and they have always been good. They’re very quick to answer the call and they’re courteous as well. The last claim we had was for the water heater which stopped working. I called AHS and the tech checked the water heater out. It was turned off. My wife was at that time and she was happy that it was a simple thing. The water heater is in the laundry room and that’s also where we keep the dog food in a big plastic container. My dogs get excited when it’s time to feed them. One of them may have shut off the water heater with the way they try to squeeze between the water heater and the food container. Now, I don’t let them in that area anymore when I’m feeding them. We're very satisfied with AHS and we're very happy with their work.

A drain was clogged and our water wouldn't go down. I contacted American Home Shield, and they had a plumber come out to fix it. He cleaned the pipes out, and then he put in something where the little downspout is. And then a couple of weeks later, we noticed the wet spot in our ceiling. We went upstairs and looked in the bathroom, and the new faucet thing that he put in, either wasn’t tight or it was poor quality, so it was dripping into the bathroom cabinet, and then that was dripping into the ceiling. Instead of submitting for a leak, I just resubmitted that the work wasn’t complete yet. I had the plumbing company come out. They fixed it, and then I asked them what I needed to do as far as the stain in the ceiling goes, and he said it wasn’t that bad. I should just paint over it.
American Home Shield has been pretty good with us. They have seemed responsive. When you submit a claim online, you just put in the issue, and then hit submit and the site would say the company would be in contact with you. I would usually look up the ratings of the company that AHS selected, and if it has really poor ratings, I would just cancel the claim and then try fixing the issue myself because I've learned that I would rather spend the money myself than have a deal with somebody that might make it worse.
Sometimes we've had negative experiences, but we knew it wasn't them and it might have been because of a poor trade that they had paired us up with. There was an instance when a company was coming out to work on the refrigerator, and they were really poor and unresponsive. I found it really hard to get a new help because the company wouldn't respond to my calls. We kept following after them day after day. Then I contacted AHS and they told me that all they could do was call the company and see if they would answer. So I had to wait while our groceries were in a couple of coolers because the refrigerator wasn’t working. We ended up going a couple of months without a refrigerator.
I just went and bought a small dorm size refrigerator and shoved everything in there while we were waiting for the refrigerator to get fixed. That process was excruciating, but AHS ended up finding somebody else to help us. We've been pleased with AHS so far, but I don’t know how they address things when a trade causes another problem.

Our air conditioner wasn’t cooling properly. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and navigating through their website was fairly easy. The contractors that are sent are always helpful. However, they made a mistake when they wired up the thermostat previously and that was why I made the last service call. Still, American Home Shield got the issue resolved eventually and they gave me a credit on a couple of service calls that I had submitted.
Also, I had a very high power bill because of the AC problem but they said, as per their contract, they couldn’t reimburse any type of power bill. So I was happy with at least getting a couple of the service calls refunded. Any type of home warranty is valuable and American Home Shield seems reasonable with their pricing. I’d recommend American Home Shield. Give them a call.

I called AHS and they got a hold of him, then he got a hold of me. He had to remove about five pounds of my Freon because it was overfilled, but if it wasn’t cooling off the way it should properly cool off, he would put it back in without charging me.
It went smoothly and he fixed the issue within an hour and a half. He was very good, fantastic, knowledgeable, and very professional. He was very nice and was quite a gentleman. He also told me to call him if I had any more problems. Everything has been great since the repair, although he had to come back and do the ducts because somebody had stepped on one of them.
We have good service from American Home Shield and I’m very happy that I got the service. I was recommended by one of my neighbors for this. She told me that I really should get it. Two years ago, my refrigerator blew up and the motor cost me almost $475 out of my pocket. We would have been out without a refrigerator for a week and I thought that was unacceptable. So, I called back the next day during regular working hours and they were able to get me an appointment sooner. And the contractors who were sent were good and got the job done.
In the course of the refrigerator going out, I learned that if it couldn’t be repaired or if it had to be replaced, my choices would be limited. I would have to go through the purchasing department and then I'd be given three choices. I wouldn’t have the option to keep the same color as the rest of our appliances and I didn’t wanna get into that situation. So, I was relieved that we didn’t have to do that because the repairman was able to repair the existing refrigerator.Still, had it been the case or if something else breaks down and I have limited options because the company is trying to save money, that wouldn’t be very satisfactory as a homeowner. The service we have had from American Home Shield has been good, but we do not plan to renew the warranty. Apparently, we didn’t test the limits of what we could have needed.

American Home Shield sent K & W Heating and Air for an AC issue. I had them out once before and the tech was very good. He kept his word when he said he was gonna come. It went out on a Thursday and he came out that Saturday. Our air conditioner was blowing hot air. He put some kind of cylinder and that was what it needed.
He had come out before for the same problem and he came out again. He was honest because he could have said there were more things wrong than what was really wrong. And it wasn’t like he was trying to get money and he was a Christian which I liked. It went very well because I've had plumbers out here to do a job and I was very disappointed in them and they didn’t really do very well. I had three bathrooms. They all had the same problems. They needed to have the pump or whatever that goes inside, replaced plus some valves and whatever and they just did one and they put a Band-Aid on another one and tightened up something and that was it and they left. They didn’t fix the problem.
I ended up getting new things because of that. And then I've had others come out to fix my refrigerator, my stove, and then it would be broken again. So I was very pleased with this person. I haven't had any problems since he came out. I've heard other people who have American Home Shield that have had bad experience with them but I haven't had that.

He was from Sears and it was the second time that I had him in the house. Every time he came in, he was professional and got the job done. He was honest as well and told me what was going on. My dryer is fixed now and is drying better than before. It's a 10-year old dryer, so it needed some part of be replaced and he fixed that. It was awesome and overall, my experience was great. I am very pleased with American Home Shield. I got their warranty because a friend told me about it and I am pleased with the decision that I made. But I wish they could vet more providers for areas. That way, perhaps we could have an option to look at one or two contractors instead of just one. Other than that, I'd tell my friends to get the warranty, too.

My sister had American Home Shield and had good luck with it, so I got it as well. I’ve had great service from AHS. The people they send out are very prompt and they seem to know what they’re doing. They explain everything very well too. I’ve always had a good relationship with the people that come out. Recently, there was trouble with our gas stove’s ignitor switches. I called AHS and they sent out Jerry and Michael. Their customer service was excellent and they were very polite. Now, they’re ordering parts and they’re waiting for some parts to come in. We’ve used AHS about three times recently for other things, too and we’ve been really pleased. I’d recommend AHS.
Thanks for sharing your warranty experience Nancy. We look forward to handling your future warranty needs. Have an amazing week.

The AC wasn't cooling so I called American Home Shield to file a claim and the customer service was very good. They sent out Perry Mechanical the next day and they replaced the compressor but then I had to call them out again because the AC wasn’t cooling once more. It would come on but then it would shut off. They came back out and they put a hard starter. No matter what, I just call in and let them know what the work order number is and they sit me in. They’re very good. Also, they have been very professional. Right now, the AC is working.

Three months ago, we did something wrong on the appliance. Swift Electric showed up and it was an easy fix. They were courteous and the repair was done quickly. We submitted the claim online and I got contacted within 24 hours. It took another 36 hours for Swift Electric to show up but it was timely enough since it wasn’t a critical issue. Their appearance was fine and the behavior was good. The only thing is for stuff like an appliance where it's not critical, it's okay to take an extended time but when it's 100 degrees outside like today and you have a critical appliance like an AC that's out, it would be nice to have a quicker response. There ought to be an option whether or not the claim is a critical repair. Overall, everything was kind of what we expected. Keep providing the same level of service.

I called in a claim for the dishwasher to American Home Shield and they sent out good people. They did what they were supposed to do and did a good job. I've had American Home Shield for a year now and they're very competitive. I like them. Otherwise, I wouldn’t keep them. I used to have Sears then I let them go. Their techs say they won't do or they don’t provide the service. But everybody who’s come out from American Home Shield has taken care of the problems. And I was pleased before they left the premise.

When my air conditioner went out, I submitted my claim to American Home Shield over the phone. Although I didn't have a problem with the claim submission, it took longer than I wanted it to be since the material is all ordered through AHS. Still, the contractor that was sent out did well and the air conditioner is working fine. But as far as cooling, I thought we were having a little problem but it seems like we're not. I even called the contractor and they said I had to call AHS before they would come out. However, I decided that they didn't need to come out because the contractor explained that the air conditioner outside could have some condensation because I see that it was a little bit wet. It's also been 104 outside so it's hot. After everything was said and done, I was ecstatic that I only had to pay $340 to get my air conditioner going.

We have been with American Home Shield for years and it’s easy to call them, have them dispatch somebody who then comes out and takes care of the problem. We had an issue with the air conditioning and the tech who came out was very professional, clean, thorough and did not give us the heebie-jeebies. He told us stuff that the last tech didn’t and also told us how the last tech put on parts that didn't need to be put on. We had a great interaction with Total Care and we would recommend them again. However, we do not care to have the previous air conditioner people back in our home. They were creepy and you wanted to make sure your windows were locked after they left. When I told the guy from Total Care, he told me that it wasn’t the first time he has heard that about the other company.

My experience with American Home Shield really sucks. My toilet tank cracked and it was a manufacturing flaw. It happened right around the handle where you normally flush. I called them up and the plumber came by and decided that it was abused and I’ve done something crazy, even though there were no hairline fractures or anything like that nowhere near where it happened. He decided that was the case and the only way I could get it reassessed was to pay them another $100. I just bought my own replacement for $50. They were just being stupid.
The interaction I had with the rep was really horrible and it was an extremely bad experience. I would my tell my friends to find a different company. I ended up hanging up because I couldn’t hold my tongue anymore and I didn’t wanna be rude to them. It was very difficult to arrange a time where I could meet the contractor and it was inconvenient that they would only work between eight and five. I can’t be home between those hours and they didn’t work on the weekend either. My son met him and he gave us a write-up that described everything was wrong with no mention of what he told the home warranty people. American Home Shield should allow for a second opinion without having to charge me twice. I asked for a second opinion and they said that the only way I could get that was if I pay another deductible.

They didn't try to gouge me. They were very upfront and said that nothing's wrong with my AC unit. The online site is good, but the only problem is when somebody needs to come back out. There's no section for when you're trying to have somebody else come back out or when the problem didn't get fixed, and you don't wanna pay another fee. So, I am in NC, approximately 92 degrees, as in hot! I put in a service request approximately 3 weeks ago. The contractor has been to my home at least 10 times for the AC/central air. 1st diagnosis was the compressor was bad and needed replacement. Sad thing is, I had to pay $802 in Freon costs. Well, lo and behold, the AC unit went back to "not working" status. So, what and why the hell do I have to suck up the cost of the Freon when obviously that wasn't the problem. In this 10 visits, it's a little bit of this, a little bit of that, but then hours later the unit breaks down AGAIN! So now, it's Friday, 530p, and my contractor is gone for the weekend. WTH am I suppose to do? Well, I spoke with a rep and she kindly told me I was not considered an 'emergency' and only at 105 degrees would I be. Let me say this AHS, I am sure there is a nominal amount of customers that fall into that category, compared to the non-emergencies.
Glad to know the needs of the few outweighs the needs of the many. And to top it off, if the contractor works M-F, I have to WAIT UNTIL MONDAY! AHS, you care so precise in your contract about what you will and won't do. PSA: You should let your customers know if their complaint falls after normal work hours, you are ** out of luck. Write that in your contract. And to boot, you have had my service since 2007, two homes and yet there is no hope for a client after hours. Shame on you. And shame on you for not being transparent with your customers and SHAME in you that this customer had to absorb $802 only to find out it wasn't even necessary. I will be posting this on the FB page and internet sources that will allow me to leave a review. #thecustomeralwayscomefirst

We filed a claim for a repair on our air conditioner on Saturday 7/21. On Tuesday 7/24, late afternoon All About Comfort arrived for the repair and replaced the capacitor and noted that the unit was in need of cleaning because their pressure was high. The unit was cleaned And ran through the night but never got below 83 degrees so I called them and asked them to come back out which they refused to do because I didn’t have the unit cleaned by them. I called American Home Shield where I was on hold for more than 45 minutes, the call center was in another country with very loud chatter of other representatives taking calls at the center to where I could barely hear the representative. I asked for another company to be sent out and they couldn’t do ours in for a second opinion because the diagnosis from the first company wasn’t in the system yet.
Mind you, this is summer in Oklahoma. It’s hot and I have four children, one of them a heart patient that does not do well in the heat. So I request to cancel the contract for refund. After another 30+ minutes on hold, I reach a nice person in game retention department who helps me. She starts a new expedited claim and sends a new company out which I greatly appreciated. The new HVAC company shows up and immediately sees the problem. The valve on our a/c unit was either left open or lose either when the first company replaced the capacitor or from when they measured the pressures on the unit. The unit had Freon when the first company got here and now it is bone dry.
Freon is not covered by the contact and it will cost around $500 or more to replace it. So I called AHS to see if they would cover it since the damage was caused by the company they sent out and as of now we are 7 days without a/c and heading into the weekend, they have yet to resolve the issue. Not only do I feel like I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get a repair, I feel completely disrespected by the company’s lack of attention to the matter.
Yesterday when I called a supervisor had signed off on getting the Freon put it for us but today 7/27 when I called, nothing was finalized on it to move forward so here we sit, a family of six in an 85 degree home unable to cook hot meals for dinner because it’s too hot and kids sweating to death in their rooms as they play or try to sleep at night. Unacceptable. So this is it, if American Home Shield won’t back their service and their customers, we will have to be out of pocket several hundred dollars to repair it ourselves to make sure our family is taken care of.
Good morning Kristin

MY SECOND REVIEW REGARDING AHS. I should note that I reached out to the customer account manager, who gave me his direct email and phone number LAST time, if I ever needed his help again, only to be ignored after repeated attempts to contact him. So, I'm compelled to share my experience ONCE again. I recently had another incredibly poor experience with a vendor through which American Home Shield employs. Air Doctor A/C & Heating was recently dispatched to repair my forever ailing A/C unit, and although the repairs were done quickly, their appointment and accommodation to meet the appointment were not. (2-1/2 hours late after waiting 4 hours = 6-1/2 hours.)
Request for service was put in through the website on Saturday 6/30. I received a phone call on my way to work at 8:45 a.m. on Monday 7/2, to inform me that my ONLY options were THAT very Monday from 11 to 3, or four days later on Thursday 11 to 3. Obviously, due to the house being 95 degrees already, I opted for the same day service. I requested a phone call 30-45 minutes prior to the technician arriving so I could leave work and miss as little as possible of my work day, but they told me she could only give me 10-15 minutes notice.
Not wanting to miss my appointment, I felt forced to leave MY job, so HE could do HIS job. I left work and was home by 11 and waited over 6 hours before the technician showed up. I contacted Air Doctor around the 3:00 mark, only to be told I "was next" and "it won't be long now". After 5:00 I called again, only to find they had now closed for the day and I then had no idea if anyone was still coming to my home or not. They returned my call, and said he would still be there, but unsure "when". By 6 pm we had A/C running after a fix that took 20 minutes.
AGAIN, this level of service from the vendors they are choosing to work with, in a state where A/C is vital to the health and security of Florida residents is really poor. Either they have too many appointments, or cannot seem to staff properly to improve on the timeliness of the ones they have. On a side-note: this A/C unit continues to need the same repairs over & over, and I am curious if this is all that will continue to be done, and when does it come to the point when the system is evaluated and repaired 100%? Answer is: NEVER.

I've been a customer of AHS for over 5 years. I recently contacted the customer services department regarding my air conditioning unit and the lack of coverage available for the replacement of the evaporator coil that I was told needed replacing along with 8 lbs of freon. The young lady I spoke to informed me that I had to pay $1342 toward the evaporator coil and I would need 8lbs of freon at $85 per lb. I simply asked her how much would AHS be covering and she said she didn't know. I asked her why and she said they wouldn't know the price until they ordered the part. I told her I was really upset with the fact that she couldn't tell me how much they would cover.
Therefore, I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she told me that the Supervisor was going to tell me the same thing and I said "I didn't ask what the supervisor was going to say", I wanted to speak to the supervisor and she told me that a supervisor wasn't available so she would have to put in a request for a supervisor to contact me. She proceeded to ask me if I had any other questions for her and I simply told her "no" because she couldn't answer any of my questions so I ended the call. About 2-3 days later I received a called from Supervisor (Colleen). I explained to Colleen my frustration with the price I had to pay for my air conditioning unit and I reminded her of the issues I have had in the past as well as the age of the unit.
I asked her why couldn't the unit be replaced because based on the age of the unit and the availability freon wouldn't be available because it was going be obsolete next year and she stated that they couldn't replace the unit. I explained to her that the technician informed me that it would be a waste of money to replace the evaporator coil and the unit should be replaced but he knew they wouldn't honor my request. Colleen proceeded to tell me that if I wanted to purchase a unit through one of their certified vendors they would give me a credit of $770 toward a new one. I said $770 toward a $6500- $7000.00 unit and that's it. I told her that I was very unhappy with the process knowing that my unit was 24 years old. Since I was headed out of town I told her I would get back with her to discuss further. She informed me that I could contact her at ** and I told her I would call her when I return.
On July 19th after I returned my unit upstairs had gone out also and it was 90 degrees in my home, I called Colleen but could not reach her so I left her a message asking her to please give me a call and informed her that both units were out at my home and it was 90 degrees in the house which literally made me sick with a bad headache for days. Colleen did not return my call so I called her 4 more times on July 20th with no return call and again on July 23rd and still no return call. I checked the status of my service request online to discover it had been closed out. I submitted another request for the upstairs unit and when I tried to click the link to request a time I couldn't, therefore, I called AHS and was told that my request was cancelled.
I asked the young lady why and she said because they were waiting on me about the evap coil replacement, I told the young lady that it was for my unit upstairs and she said they thought it was for the downstairs unit so they closed it. I asked her why would they assume without calling me so the request were rescheduled, in which my request was pushed further behind. I was livid and hung up. The Technician couldn't get to my home until July 25th, he serviced my upstairs unit and got it running, he also informed me that replacing the evaporator coil would be a waste of time just as the other technician told me.
I am disappointed with the lack of interest I have received in regards to this issue; it certainly does not entice me to purchase other products in the future. This incident has left me with a strong, negative impact toward your company, one which is only highlighted by the fact that I don't feel my request is one so out of the ordinary. I will be cancelling my membership and make others aware of how the service is a waste of time.
Good morning Sarah

Air conditioner stopped cooling on 7/20/18 in the middle of Arizona summer heat over 110 degrees. Submitted service request on AHS immediately and called the contractor directly. Contractor could not schedule emergency service until 5 days later! Contacted AHS customer service and requested changing contractors for emergency service. Was assigned a different company and again called the contractor directly to schedule emergency service. Second company could come out 3 days later, still unacceptable.
Finally called a contractor not through AHS and had service appointment within 2 hours but had to pay out of pocket. Contractor diagnosed the problem to a failed compressor but recommended full replacement based on 15 year age and old R22 coolant. Thankfully this contractor let me use some portable AC units for 3 days until the AHS contractor could visit. When the AHS contractor arrived 3 days later, they also had the same diagnosis of bad compressor and potentially other coil leaks. They too recommended full AC replacement. Ended up hiring the helpful contractor who assisted in the emergency situation to replace the whole AC unit but had to pay entirely out of pocket.
Seeking assistance from AHS now for their financial assistance in resolving this situation but can't for the life of me get through to a customer service representative on the phone for payment in lieu of repair. I truly wish AHS customer service could have been more help finding a contractor who could assist in emergency situations like no AC in Arizona.

After three worthless AHS repair visits for my heat-pump at $75 each, my heat-pump was still not cooling at all (in 100 degree weather!). AHS made another service call (another $75), and the technician noted that the problem was the heat pump's air-handler, which was simply not working and was not fixable, so he recommended to AHS that a replacement be authorized and the next evening AHS called to say it would replace the unit, if I agreed to pay ‘just’ $800 for ‘parts that are not covered, so I agreed that it would be OK, but the next day AHS went back on its word! AHS told me that the tech could not find any replacements, and so AHS could not replace anything and would not authorize a replacement, but when I advised them that the technician told me he found a replacement for $2006 and that he never told AHS that he could not find a replacement(!) AHS simply said that was not true.
I offered to put the tech on a conference call with us to see who was lying, but AHS refused. On June 18 AHS said it would only pay $817.80 as a “cash out,” instead of $2006, if I found a licensed contractor to do the work. I used the very same contractor that AHS employed and installed the very same model air-handler that he found, and on June 28 AHS said it would mail a check that I would receive in 10-14 days, but no check arrived.
I contacted AHS again of July 18, and AHS said the check was mailed on July 3: Their customer service person said she would reissue and mail the check that day, but no check arrived once again! Because it lied about the contractor not being able to find a replacement, AHS owes me reimbursement of $2006 for the air-handler that I paid for out of my pocket: Forget about the $800 “cash-out,” which is just something that clouds the issue. It also owes me $225 for the three previous worthless service calls. AHS owes me $2231 total!
Updated on 08/09/2018: I made a complaint on this consumeraffairs.com site about AHS not paying the money it promised me for a heat pump's air-handler. AHS replied that it would "discuss" the issue with me but DID NOTHING. It wrote, "I would be glad to speak with you and address the reimbursement that was offered." so I sent them my phone number to call or text me, but they did nothing. ANOTHER LIE: they said they would contact me but they did not!
Good morning Robert,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced as well as the CIL offer toward your new AC system. I would be glad to speak with you and address the reimbursement that was offered.

On July 10 I put in a service request for a plumbing leak. I was emailed a confirmation and was expecting a call from Mayes Plumbing, but heard nothing. I called Mayes Plumbing the following day and they told me they were having computer problems but would call me back. Once again, I heard nothing. I called American Home Shield and explained to them the situation and that I had water leaking through my ceiling and down my walls (and after waiting for considerable time on hold) they cancelled that company and told me that they would put in an expeditious request from another company (where I would get service within 24 hours). I also asked for a supervisor and they told me that supervisors are never available and would have to call me back. I asked that they call me back.
They then told me that Stilwell Plumbing would contact me to set up an appointment. On Friday, July 13th I still hadn't heard from anyone. I called Stilwell Plumbing and could not get through to them. Once again, I called American Home Shield and they contacted Stilwell Plumbing and told me, because this is an emergency, Stilwell will call me on Sunday July 15, to set up an appointment for that day. Once again, I asked for a supervisor to call me back.
By Monday, July 16, I had not heard from anyone. I called Stilwell on Monday and they told me they did not have any request from American Home Shield. I called American Home Shield who called Stilwell and they said they could only come out Tuesday between 4 pm and 8 pm. I asked for a supervisor to call me back. Stilwell came on Tuesday night at 10:30 pm (without ever calling to tell me that they would be late). The man they sent could not find where the leak was coming from and said he would have to make a hole in my ceiling in order to find it. We showed him that there was water under our refrigerator above the ceiling and asked him to check the plumbing for the refrigerator and ice maker. He said there was nothing wrong with the plumbing for either the refrigerator or ice maker. He also said that he would have to get permission to cut a hole in my ceiling since it is wood boards and not sheetrock.
Since the office was closed he would call me back the next morning. Meanwhile within the week that had passed, the water damage was getting more and more extensive. I heard nothing from Stilwell the following morning. I called them and they said that I would have to pay out of pocket $150 for them to make a hole in my ceiling. I decided to call an independent plumber who came right away and moved my refrigerator to find a small hole in the piping of the ice maker. He replaced the piping and the leak stopped. He also went to the ceiling downstairs and unscrewed one of the boards to check the leak -- WITHOUT cutting a hole in the ceiling but by just unscrewing one of the boards.
I subsequently called American Home Shield yet again to tell them what had transpired and that I was expecting the company to cover the bill from the plumber. They agreed with me about the fact that someone should have been there within 24 hours and said they would talk to another department and get back to me. I still have not heard back from them. This last Saturday, July 21st I received a voice message from American Home Shield stating that in order to fix the problem, Stilwell could come and do it if I paid $240.00 for them to cut a hole in the ceiling!!!
Seems like American Home Shield sends service companies out to customers' homes that are unprofessional, dishonest and incapable of doing the work. I have wasted countless hours on the phone, have yet to hear from a supervisor and American Home Shield agents have disconnected the calls when putting me on hold several times and even though they have my phone number have never bothered to call me back. I had to call back and waste more time. They seem to have no regard for their customers even though they readily accept my monthly payments. Beware of this company.
Updated on 07/31/2018: Last week when I posted my previous review of how bad this company is to deal with -- someone responded quite soon after that review on this website saying they would be "glad to speak with me". I guess that was for social media marketing purpose because I am still waiting! Saturday, someone emailed me to tell me where to call. I called and left a message, emailed, called and left a message and called again and left a message. No response, not even the courtesy of a return email to say when they would contact me or if they're not interested in pursuing this anymore. When I called again today another agent said that they are dealing with over 40 social media issues... seems to be really telling about American Home Shield. This company seems to be unresponsive within every department.
Good morning Laura,
I understand your concerns with the delay in service you experienced to have the plumbing leak repaired. Also, per the diagnosis through AHS I am aware that several cost were quoted to create access. I would be glad to speak with you and address the repairs that were completed.

We bought a policy from American Home Shield because we bought a new house. Most recently, we had electrical problems concerning some wiring in the house. We submitted the claim through email and their level of customer service was what we expected. The contractor who was sent out was very good and friendly. He knew what he was doing and got the job done quick. The whole transaction went the way we hoped it would and everything has been fine since the repair. If friends were buying a new house, we would recommend American Home Shield.

American Home Shield was the most reputable company for me. I know a couple of people who recommended them and didn't know of any better option. We bought a new house and got their warranty. We've had three claims since then. The one with Hendriks Electric went well. They came out and the technician was able to resolve the attic ventilation fan problem. However, we had another claim for our air conditioner and that was a little more problematic since it was a weekend and they had trouble getting somebody out there to fix it. It took several hours and they ended up giving us authorization to go find our own repair man ‘cause they weren’t able to find somebody that could come out during the weekend.
Currently, we're dealing with a contractor called SureTech for microwave repair. Though AHS has been fine, our experience with the contractor has been very difficult. We found that for initial claim on June 11th, they initially sent somebody out here within two days which was great. Their technician diagnosed it and the micro wave needed some parts. They called us back three weeks later when they got the parts and wanted to come out a week after that.
But then, they couldn’t get somebody out for a week. Since then, they have cancelled five times over the course of three weeks. The contractor finally came and the technician was very nice. But then the part that they had ordered was broken. So he went to fix it. However, the person doing the scheduling has been terrible. She keeps screwing up the dates and cancelling. The same person who schedules is supposed to check for quality control, and she didn't do that, so SureTech's gonna have to reorder the part. If it’s gonna be another three weeks to order parts, I’ll just call American Home Shield and say I want a new contractor ‘cause this is not acceptable.

I love American Home Shield. Their price is good and I have always had good service with them. I was with 2-10 when I first bought my house and I like American Home Shield better. When I call AHS, they get someone out and the people that come out are very professional. When I call to submit a claim, they ask me for my account number. Their reps are very pleasant and understanding. They’ll give me the company’s name that’s coming out and if I don’t hear from them within 24 hours, then I can call them. But sometimes I’m very impatient, so I’ll call them as soon they get out. I’ll wait about an hour and then I’ll call the company and the company will set me an appointment. Sometimes, they come out the same day if they have openings and if not, they come out in about two days.
Recently, something was wrong with the garbage disposal and the tech that AHS sent was very pleasant. He told me what the problem was and he fixed it. He told me that if I have any problems with it, he’ll come back out and I won’t have to pay within 30 days. All I have is good experience with AHS. I haven't had any problems with their customer service and online, and I really like the companies that they send out. My daughter and my friend have AHS also.

American Home Shield sent a contractor who came came as promised, so I had no problem. The person was good and nice and my icemaker was replaced. The repair was done quickly but it wasn’t done properly so I hope the icemaker doesn’t get broken again after 60 days. My only concern is that it takes me forever when I call in something that needs to be answered by a person. So, I do it online when I submit a claim. I don’t call because it takes me two hours to get to somebody.

American Home Shield was awesome. They ask the people out here to get the problems fixed and I have no problem with them. I enjoy it. When my air conditioning stopped blowing cool air, I called AHS to submit a claim because I tried to submit online but it was error on their site at that time. Then the technician found out I had a leak in my cooling system where the Freon was leaking out so they plugged it and they loaded back up the Freon and ever since then the unit is working fine.
Air Plus was great and the guy was professional. He gave me pointers on fees to keep my cost down and keep things running smoothly. He also said I'm doing a good job with everything. I got other stuff that regulate the system pretty well and he said, “Yeah. You have to maintain it. You kept your service up on it and so you just want no freak accident to happen.” I recommend AHS all the time. I tell people I don’t care what they read out there online. Until they experience it they need to find out for themselves.

I filed a claim with AHS for my AC and had a wonderful experience. They sent out people twice and the third time, AHS decided eventually to replace the AC. AHS wanted a second opinion which was the official reason, but they simply would like somebody to do it cheaply and nobody ever came out to give the second opinion. We would have been saved the first opinion. It's a delaying tactic on part of the warranty companies. I literally had to call twice because I was yet to be tied. I asked when they would resolve the issue and they said they'd check into it and call me back, but they never did.
I called back and they were polite, really helpful and I was told that it was approved, but they had to wait for an authorization number. That took a week and that was with me calling because they had been down. Now, their delivery was, "The authorization was issued," and they simply sat on it. I literally sat on the phone and the guy said he would expedite it. I said, "Oh, now, you'll expedite it? It takes four weeks. That's really nice of you. I'm not leaving this telephone until you send a confirmation to Central Virginia." I hung on the phone until that was done and I was 45 minutes on the phone. The next morning, Central Virginia called us and said that they got it and needed to make a schedule.
We were at 98-degree weather every day and Central Virginia took a week to get the AC out here. They did an outstanding job and I'd recommend them to anybody, but not American Home Shield because they knew the AC was bad. If they had done it within a week, I would have been a happy camper because I understand warranties, but it was almost a month. The claim process started on June 11 and I didn't get the AC until July 6th. The only reason we survived the ordeal was we had to live in an air-conditioned office on the same grounds as our house. We lived there with our two doggies and we had to run back and forth to the house for meals. It was not a good idea.
I re-upped with AHS, but I'm having second thoughts about carrying on because if I got that same kind of treatment every time I called on a claim, I'd go out to wherever they're located and wring somebody's neck. It was very frustrating. AHS had several complaints where it took them too long to do things, but I took some of that with a grain of salt because it is the nature of the business.
Good afternoon Mr. Nadolson,
I understand your frustration with the delay in service you have experienced to have your air conditioner repaired. I would be to contact you and address the concerns that you have expressed.

Submitting claims at American Home Shield is super easy. You just call and the automated system guides you through the process. I've been super delighted with their reps and have even left messages with their supervisors to tell them what great customer service I received. Recently, GE delivered a stacked washer and dryer, but because I did not have a hard tailpipe for the dryer vent, they were unable to do the installation. So I had to hire a contractor locally to put in a hard tailpipe. Then I contacted American Home Shield, and now I'm waiting for another contractor to come out and actually install my washer and dryer. When I bought the home, the warranty was negotiated as part of the contract. I've been so delighted with how quickly AHS responds and the contractors that they have sent out that when it's up next year, I'm going to re-enroll. They're professional, reliable and timely. I'm very happy with my experience with them.

The technician who came out to our home was fine and now our water heater is not leaking. On the other hand, I live in Duval County in Florida and it seems like on a lot of times I file a claim and I get the email saying who the contractor is and a lot of them can be coming from Orlando or Jacksonville, where they don't have very good reviews. It'd be nice to have a little bit more visibility on who they're contracting with. They could have more local options and offer three or four different choices before they plug in one. They will never replace the AC no matter what the diagnosis is, they will just continue to patch it up to keep it going for one more year. We have had to request service on our AC every year for many years now. And they refuse to replace it. I submitted claims for a non-working ceiling fan and leaky faucets, a running toilet and a non-working shower bypass on the tub faucet back in late April of 2018. Sioux Falls Electric showed up the first week of May and the provider diagnosed that the fan needed to be replaced. To date, it has not been replaced and no tech has ever been back to my home despite four phone calls to AHS about this. For the plumbing, the first contractor never responded to the work order. I called, emailed and left voice messages.
Finally, after about three weeks, the contractor called me and told me he didn't know when he would have time to come by to look at my problem. I called AHS and they had another contractor from a town 50 miles away come and look at the problem. He looked at the faucets but did not look at the shower bypass on the tub faucet. He said he'd be back in three days. That was over a month ago now and still no response from AHS or the contractor. This is all for some leaky faucets, running toilet, a non-working shower head and a ceiling fan. Three months. Three. Months. Nothing. Sort of begs the question of what is going to happen if something more serious like my furnace dies in the middle of winter. Am I going to be setting fire to my living room furniture waiting for AHS to get the repair/replace done???
Also, sitting on the phone for half an hour at a time waiting for someone to take my call is frustrating as well. And then, when you do get through, having the CSR tell you that the "system is down" and you need to call back does not help either. And, when I'm told that I need to speak with Authorizations regarding my work order status, how am I supposed to do that when I do not have a "dispatch number" to use and the system hangs up on me???

I have a 2 zone system w/ 6 year old Payne HVAC systems on a home that I purchased one year ago. Both systems were inspected and in good working condition prior to my home purchase. I've had no AC from my 2nd floor unit since late June. The unit comes on, but does not blow cold air. I live in the south where it is hot. A tech was sent out who diagnosed the problem as "contaminated refrigerant". Although we had a language barrier issue, what I understood him to say was that he was unable to determine if there was a leak. He could not perform that test.
But he was going to flush the system and replace the refrigerant at a cost of several hundred dollars to me. His diagnosis was made by calling his manager and describing that a tiny screw/cap that seemed to be missing from a valve on the unit. That was the basis for his "contaminated refrigerant" diagnosis. I requested a second opinion as I did not have much confidence in the assessment and feared that if refrigerant was replaced and there was indeed a leak, that it would be a waste of my money.
The second company came out last week. Two days ago I received a call from an AHS agent telling me they were denying the claim as it was old damage. The second tech found leaks both in the evaporative coil as well as the condenser coil. His recommendation was that the entire system needed to be replaced. He also claimed he found nitrogen in the system and asked if the first tech put it there. I am not an AC technician, which is why I purchased a home warranty so asking me this question seems bizarre. I do not know if the first tech put it there.
This second tech also claimed there was no refrigerant in the system as it had all leaked out. Which would seem to explain why the unit will come on, but not produce cold air. I do not understand how nitrogen would've gotten in a system that had previously been working if one of these two techs didn't put it there. A call to a friend who has been in the HVAC business for 40+ years provided me with the enough info to confirm that all of these diagnoses are suspect. Someone would've had to put nitrogen in there yet both are denying it. He said he would never use nitrogen and did not know why they would've used it.
The second tech claimed there was indications of oil on the ground near the unit, therefore it had been malfunctioning for a long time and "would never have been working", per his diagnosis. This is utterly false as it was functioning up to June of this year. Again, this is a 6 year old Payne system (whose 5 year warranty expired shortly before I took ownership of this house). I have "Insufficient Maintenance/Improper Installations" coverage which the escalations agent (Elena) thought might allow coverage, however because they claim it (the oil on the ground) is "detectable" in a visual inspection they are standing with their denial. She claimed this was her supervisor's decision.
The first agent who provided me the initial denial report asked me if I had a home inspection prior to purchasing this home. I told her I'd just bought it last summer and did have one done upon going under contract. She asked me to provide them the A/C report from my inspection which I was in the process of doing when I heard back from the escalations agent who told me that an inspection is only valid for 45 days prior to my going under contract with AHS. Two customer service agents providing conflicting info to their customers.
Does this sound like a legitimate company who are honoring their contracts? Who have legitimate service companies with skilled technicians performing their work? Or trying to find false loopholes with which to beat their customers down with until they become weary enough to just let it go? I've already sought legal advice and following this report I intend to provide the same to the Virginia State Corporation Commission's Bureau of Insurance, as stated in my contract for VA residents.
Incidentally, when I asked Elena who their regulator is she asked me if I meant their CEO? As she seemed to not be knowledgeable about this, upon finding this in the contract, I shared it with her as I felt it might be a useful piece of information for an Escalations Agent to know. The first company was ATR General Services and the second was West End Heating & Air Conditioning.

Disaster, 3 weeks to repair AC in the middle of Summer here in TX: Submitting claim is easy and their assigned technician will come to your home in a day. But it takes them a week to call you back for the insurance approval result. If you ask them what is the other option because the out of pocket is much higher than what I expected (for my AC repair they ask $1460) they may say you can try cash out option and they do no explanation what is it and they tell you someone will call the same day. (My biggest mistake to say, "Yes I would like to see how the cash out option works," because it took one week for them to call me back with the offer of $600 cash. I said, "How come when your technician estimate $3600 for repair.")
When you reject cash out option and go back to your first option which is $1460 out of pocket then you have to wait for the technician to call you, then you realize they never called your technician to let them know you approve out of pocket, after the technician get the approval then they need to order the parts and schedule for repair when they get the parts. You do the math, I can fix this on my own without the help of home warranty for $1800, they charged me $1460 and it took almost 3 weeks and so many phone calls.

I rarely write reviews but my current situation with American Home Shield is insane. Buyers beware!!! We expect a home warranty company to provide timely repairs... they never do. This latest incident with my refrigerator has tested my limits. It’s been more than 3 weeks since I initiated a claim. The refrigerator died. It’s 8 years old and the repairman really thought they would cash out since it’s a major rebuild. They authorized the repairs so I wait for parts. The repair company informed me today that they do not have an ETA on a factory only part and it could be quite some time. So 3 weeks, 105 degree, heat, no water, ice or food at home.
I called AHS and they validated that the remaining part could take 3 more weeks or longer to get and I just had to wait. Nothing they could do. So I asked for them to provide a rental Fridge in the meanwhile...they called me back and offered me a DORM fridge. I currently have 28 cubic foot fridge with 6 people living in the house. I asked if I could escalate to someone and I was Referred to their website. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY and luckily my renewal is coming due. I will absolutely cancel.
Updated on 08/06/2018: After posting a negative review on Consumer Affairs... Here's what happened. They followed up with two canned responses on this forum with no direct way to contact them. They left me a voicemail saying "she hadn't heard back from me after sending me an email". Never got an email. I called her back and have left 5 messages and about 8 hang ups after receiving her voicemail. Responses on this site from AHS are not sincere.

Overall, in terms of the promptness of the response and the kind of contractors that American Home Shield usually sends, I'm very satisfied. The only problem that I encountered was when they changed the policy of the copay. In the past, it went directly to the contractor but now, the copay is taken out by AHS. But there are some glitches after they made that policy change which created problems in the last two services I had.
I received an email saying that I was delinquent and I had to call two representatives to clarify the issue. The first one told me that everything was okay but then I got another email. The second representative told me that everything was okay, that she fixed it and that it was the company's mistake. But then I got a letter in the mail saying that I was still delinquent. So I called back and spoke to a third representative. She apologized and said that everything was straightened out now.
It was really difficult to understand why the $75 copay could become an issue though. I have an updated credit card on file and my contract premium is automatically deducted from my credit card every month. So there shouldn't be any problem getting the $75 copay. But obviously, it was an accident and the company would be very capable of repairing whatever glitches are there. Still, I'm recommending that my son, who bought a new house, contact the company and see if he can get a contract.

I needed a range repaired as the back burner would not light, the pre-heat on the oven was taking too long and you could smell gas. It was difficult since I have kids here so I don’t like to use the front burners, and I'd have to light it with a lighter or a match. I submitted a claim to AHS over the phone and the first contractor they sent didn’t seem like he should even be working for a company doing that. He was asking me a lot of questions and it was difficult for me to interact with him because I work at home. He was giving me a lot of jargon and I couldn’t answer any of the questions. Somebody else was sent out that was very good and I would recommend that contractor to anyone whether they’ve got American Home Shield or not.
However, there was a part that was discontinued and they weren’t able to do the total repair. But it was nice to be offered another stove, not the one that I would have chosen but I didn’t have to pay for it. When the new stove was brought, it sat in my family room for over a month because there was a back and forth wherein the install couldn't be paid for. I ended up paying out of pocket and AHS said they would reimburse me but I still haven't received it. A couple of evenings ago, I got an email that they didn’t know what happened and that they were sending it, but I still don’t have it.
Another situation was when my daughter’s tub on the third floor stopped up and the guy that first came out said he didn’t know how far down the lines would be. He stayed out for a long time in his truck, then he came back in and said he was concerned about doing damage to a wall. He didn’t want to take the responsibility to do it. Then somebody else was called and they were supposed to come back and fix the faucet. It had a steady drip and that’s why it kept filling up even though it was stopped up. But they never came back. Also, I've got an email that AHS has been trying to contact me because my service representative had not been able to reach me and I haven't called for anything. The guy from ABC Overhead Doors came out a month ago and said that the door sprung and it had to be replaced, and if we replace the big door, we had to replace the other door too. It turns out the only things they fixed were the springs and the latches. He quoted me a price of $3,500 for the doors and said that I gotta pay for all that. He also said that he can’t put the order in that day, but he’ll put it in next Monday and I’ll have it in a week. It has been taking a long time and he called to apologize. I got a call yesterday from the door company that they are installing it on Saturday morning.
We also had a problem with the refrigerator. The tech man came out and he got the icemaker working, but none of the dials light up so we can’t set anything on the refrigerator. Also, when we put the chalk in it back together, it doesn’t fit, so I called yesterday and asked if we can have the tech man come back out here and fix what he didn’t fix. The guy that came out to repair it didn’t do it right and we’re still waiting for him to come back. However, I’m still waiting for someone to call and tell me what time he’s coming.
The American Home Shield reps are extremely polite and very quick to deal with the problem, while the people who come out range from very good to average. They answered all my questions and responded to everything I wanted. The problem is the vendor, although some of it is American Home Shield, like the coverage. We didn’t like the contractor that they originally sent to me for the air conditioner, as well as their quote. The guy worked for an hour, but after he left, we discovered that the lights didn’t work. The control panel he put in was not working properly and the pieces he put together were not put together properly.
We hired our own contractor, independent of American Home Shield, and I needed to pay $75 only to discover that I can’t use them. I also had a problem with the delivery of the garage door when they said it was gonna be delivered in a week and a half, although it has already been over a month. We’ve also had a couple of windows where the steels aren’t working properly, but American Home Shield doesn’t cover windows, so that’s not very good.
I had a long chat yesterday with a woman from American Home Shield and we were on the phone for about half an hour. She called to find out if everything was okay. We also discussed the various projects. She understood what I was discussing with her and it was a very good conversation. American Home Shield is trying to do their best. Some of the contractors they have picked are very good, while some of them are not so good. They’re gonna use the same contractor unless they get customer feedback. I got two policies with American Home Shield, one for my house in Yuma and one for a house in Wittmann. The most recent claim I had was for the house in Yuma where the air conditioner was not cooling. I got an immediate response. It had to be scheduled because I was out of town at the time the unit went out and they worked with me on scheduling. Then, the guy came out and repaired it. My experience working with AHS has been positive.

My dishwasher was not emptying water out. Water was just collecting in the base of it. I couldn’t figure it out and after cleaning everything, it still didn’t work. So, I called American Home Shield and they took care of the claim without a hassle. They gave us the phone number to call and we called that phone number. The guy showed up on time and it took him about five minutes to fix it. AHS is a good company. It’s a great idea when you buy a new house or trade into a different house. You never know what kind of condition the appliances are in and how long before something goes out. AHS is an economical way to protect yourself. There’s a small service charge when they send people out but it seems like they are gonna take care of the bills. I’m a happy customer.

My air conditioner wasn’t coming on in my Louisiana home. I have a small cellphone and the older I get, the lesser I see well. It's easier just to pick up the phone and call American Home Shield to submit a claim. I called on a Friday. The contractor told me from the beginning, “I will not be there today.” It's late in the evening around 6 o’clock. I said, “I didn’t expect you to come today, but please get me some cool air because my little puppies are hot.” He was very professional and he finally showed up on Tuesday evening.
He said that I didn’t have an AC problem but an electrical problem. He also said it was something in the breaker and he would call American Home Shield and tell them to transfer it from AC to electrical. I was really concerned because for some reason, my deductible and my service fees are higher in Louisiana than in my home in Georgia. It's just the Louisiana greed, I call it. But he said, “No, you don’t have to pay twice. I'm gonna call in. Don’t you worry about anything. You will be cool by tomorrow.”
He told me that somebody would be out within an hour and I just didn’t expect that to happen. It was just too late in the evening. But the second gentleman did call me and said he would be here first thing in the morning. The funny part was when the guy came in, he said that we should give the AC a few minutes because he was feeling cool air. I said he should trust me that there was no cool air. I also told him that I've been in the house for four days with no cool air. So we just chit-chatted for a few minutes and then he said the AC did not seem like it was getting cooler. He was absolutely wonderful and professional. I really appreciate him coming out and what he did for the breaker and he got it going within 20 minutes.
The only thing I was disappointed about is when I got the program, I thought my ceiling fan and my dishwasher were covered and I found out just last week they were not. Even so AHS is absolutely awesome. I've already recommended American Home Shield and gave my experience with them on the Nextdoor app. I put out that I had a great experience with AHS. My service call cost me only $100. And a lot of people said thank you because they were in the market for a company.

We submitted a claim to American Home Shield for the refrigerator that doesn't work and they sent out a technician. The technician was very timely, nice, and professional. He said that the fridge is old, not cooling and almost beyond repair. It was not gonna get any better so they won't be doing anything about it. He also said that he would submit the claim to American Home Shield and then I should call them to find out what they're gonna do. So I requested that American Home Shield send me the information in writing, which they never did. Then they emailed me that they closed it out. They never got back to me and the refrigerator still doesn’t work. So therefore, I'm responsible for the refrigerator myself.
American Home Shield sometimes needs to get back to their clients. In one case, I had to call two or three times then finally, the lady said, “You know what, ma'am? I'm just gonna take care of you. I'm gonna come tomorrow. I'm gonna make sure somebody looks at this and takes care of it.” So, they're good in signing you up, but their follow-through needs improvement. You might wanna think twice if you have an older house and you are considering them. But if you got a new house, then go for it.

I made an AC claim through AHS online and their response was pretty immediate. The line in my AC was freezing up and the refrigerant was leaking and freezing. The first time that Quantum Mechanical came out, the technician thought that maybe there was a crack in the line. They changed the component and it started cooling again. It was a weird coincidence that it vibrated that nut and eventually loosened and created a similar issue. They came back out a second time, tightened it up and then added some refrigerant. They were very polite and they knew what they were doing.

I filed a claim online with American Home Shield and I got an email immediately, then I got a phone call within the next couple of hours from GE to set up a time for the service associate to come out. The guy said that the bucket that I had was not the proper one, so he got me the correct bucket for the ice maker. He then installed the ice maker the same day and he was able to get it fixed very quickly. Also, the ice bin was mailed out. There was a problem with my air conditioning. I filed a claim online with American Home Shield. Most of the time their site is pretty good but because they bought another company out and when I search from that, it’s hard to pull the information out. AHS needs to think about how they transfer the customer or refer them to the new website. Also, every time I call, the waiting time is so long that’s why I don’t call anymore. Sometimes, it’s 30 minutes and nobody answers. The online process is faster than calling in. Another thing is that the repairer that AHS was using overcharged me more than 50% of the price. I already recommended AHS to my son and he bought it but I reminded him to double check. AHS needs to be careful with their contractors and AHS needs to think about how a customer works to make their company service cost less or be more efficient.

He came at a different time and fixed each appliance in one visit. The last time he had to order parts but he was quick in getting the parts in and came in immediately after. We used to request Sears since everything is Kenmore but we waited a week before they would come again to fix the appliance when they got the part. Afterward, they had to come back after a month because it went out again so I would prefer having this serviceman come over everybody else. Since the repair all three appliances have been working perfectly and I have recommended American Home Shield to some people.

It’s 108 degrees here in Las Vegas, and my AC wouldn’t give me any heat or air conditioning at all. The first time Air One came out, they replaced some sort of valve and then less than a month later, the same exact thing happened. On Saturday at noon, when I called, Air One called me right back but they couldn’t get us until Wednesday. And I said, “You realize it’s 108 degrees here and I have three dogs.” The rep goes, “That’s the soonest we can do.” I had to call my own air conditioning guy and pay for $1,700 worth of stuff, and the guy came out the very next morning. I’ve submitted an email to American Home Shield to see what they will pay me back, but I’m sure they’ll pay me $2.50 so I’m not expecting anything.
I also had to use AHS before we actually moved in because there was water damage. My refrigerator, where it’s hooked up, started leaking all over into my brand-new kitchen floor. I called Home Shield and they were like, “We can’t sent anybody out for a couple of days.” So once again, I had to call my own plumber for an emergency shut-off and pay for that. AHS literally paid me back $45, so I’m not real thrilled with them. We’ve only owned this house since April so it's very new service. This is our third time having to use them since April and they haven’t done me any good. They're not worth a dime. I didn't pay for this because we bought the house used and in Nevada, but I had to pay for the same thing for my other house that I sold, so I hope they haven’t had any issues.

On June 8th, I had a vendor come out and look at our air conditioning unit and he deemed that it needed to be replaced. A few weeks went by and I called him to see what the status was. I spoke to a woman in his office. Her name was Lisa and she said that they're waiting for the paperwork from American Home Shield. She also told me that it takes a long time but he’s on it.
Another week went by and I called again and she was very rude and obnoxious, and pretty much dismissed me. So then, another week went by and I called again and I got their voicemail and the voicemail said to leave a message. But when you went to leave a message, the mailbox was full. This went on for several days. And we were in the midst of a heat wave, the hottest heat wave that had hit New Jersey in decades. So, I called American Home Shield. The gentleman from that company called her. She was very rude to him as well, which, he said that he understands how I felt because she was not any more pleasant to him.
Finally, on July 8th, I texted the woman and I explained that I have been trying to reach her now for days and that if she doesn't return my call, then I will call American Home Shield. Within minutes, I got a response from her asking if I was trying to threaten her. Finally, they came, they installed the unit, and the day they left, I went downstairs to take a look to see what they had done and it was leaking from a connection and it was the water that the unit produces as condensation that used to drip into the sump pump well. And it was dripping from the unit and underneath the unit. I called and they came back the next week to fix that connector, but didn’t do anything about the leak. And again, every time I would call, I would get that same voicemail saying the mailbox is full. And I can’t leave a message.
I contacted American Home Shield again and after a couple of weeks of speaking to probably a dozen people from American Home Shield, I said that I don’t want those people coming back anymore because I don’t wanna do business with them. They’re irresponsible. They’re rude. As for AHS, after having to speak to about a dozen different people to get someone out here and a lot of promises that they were gonna take care of it, they just didn't.

I have three companies who came to my home to fix things. One was a plumbing company, one was an electric company, and the other one was for the air conditioning system. The most recent one was for the electric claim and the guy fixed what we asked for. The guy who came for the air conditioning system did a good job as well. But the plumbing guy came twice and still have not fixed the whole thing. The garbage disposal was broken and the guy needed to replace it. The other part of the work was the faucet which was not performing well. It had some parts that was not exactly broken but were not functioning. He tried to replace them but since that faucet brand has life warranty, he tried to get some parts. Home Depot sent the parts which were not the same as the faucet that I have, so he couldn't finish the work.
It's been a month and the faucet still doesn't perform well. I was waiting for the contractor to come back but he didn't. Home Depot was getting mad on the contractor too because the contractor was saying Home Depot should provide me the right faucet part but there was no reference on the faucet that could tell us what kind of faucet it is. When I purchased the house, the faucet was there. So, there is no document, receipt, or anything that indicates if that faucet was purchased at Home Depot. So then, why should Home Depot provide parts if we didn't purchase the faucet there? Then in the end, I still need to install the faucet. But then, Home Depot called me and allowed me to buy a new faucet with a 50% discount.
I didn't purchase the faucet yet, and didn't call Home Shield to come back and fix the whole thing. It's still pending, which should upset me, because if we have the insurance, AHS should change the whole faucet right away. I'm dissatisfied with American Home Shield. There are better companies out there that could do the work better.

The technicians who came were excellent and everything went well. It took a while for parts to come in but it wasn’t American Home Shield’s fault. And everything has been working great. We'd recommend them. I've had American Home Shield in almost every place that I've lived, and I've been in a few places. This is the second claim that AHS is denying because of "my fault". First plumbing pipe vibration noise was deemed to be by missing straps by the "plumbing company" that probably gets big bonuses for writing bogus reports for the warranty companies to deny claims. How come my pipes were strapped for 10 years and then all of a sudden are now missing them??? Now my washer. "Appliance repair company" reported it is broken because of overload. My wife has been doing laundry for over 20 years. In case of an overload - clothes usually soak with water. Our case - it was decided conveniently for AHS that it is due to overload with no such a proof. And every visit cost me $100 each. This business model will really work well for types of companies like AHS and their approved contractors. Nice way to rip people off. My hat is off to you.

I was assigned Air Dynasty A/C to check and fix my HVAC by American Home Shield. On July 20, a guy named Rony came to check and told me I need to replaced my leaking evaporator coil for both downstairs and upstairs, and the AHS would cover the labor and part. Since the coil of downstairs unit was just replaced in May 2017 and not supposed to be fail so rapidly, I asked and Rony told me "unfortunately it was defective". Then he wrote down which part need to be replaced and how much I need to pay. For the downstairs unit which adopted R410 refrigerant, he told me it is a new unit and only need to be replaced the coil which is covered by AHS. For the upstairs unit which adopted R22 refrigerant, I need to replace some switch and upgrade which will cost me from $1,200-$1,500.
For making sure, I asked again if I need to do any upgrade or add switch for the D/S R410 unit, he said no. If need evidence, he wrote everything down for me and all the talk has been recorded by my camera on the wall beside the condensers. After he report to AHS, I was told I must pay $1,485 for the downstairs unit, except $300 for refrigerant, the other fraudulent and ridiculous expenses are Emergency drain pan, access door, hanging kit, etc. When I replaced my coil with another contractor of AHS last summer, I only need to pay the refrigerant refill. Now after a summer, to fix the same problem for the same unit, I have to pay more $1,185 for some deceptive expense. I kept all the repair record and invoice for replacing evaporator coil in May 2017 which is only need me pay for refrigerant, and now this contractor is trying to steal money from me on the same problem, and I definitely won't let it happen.
Updated on 08/01/2018: AHS firstly send dishonest and disrespectful contractor who tried to charge me more than $1,000 for code upgrade when my AC coil leaked. After I refused this contractor's proposal and asked for repairing my AC by myself, AHS offered me $300 for the labor and part of coil replacement! How ridiculous it is! Can anyone believe they can replace a coil at cost of $300 in United States?
According to their policy of covering $10 of Freon, I need 10 lbs Freon which is already worth $100 reimbursement. AHS told me to accept their cash, or use their own contractor who charged me a thousand of unnecessary expense. This is AHS' trick that just pushing their customer either paid a thousand out of pocket or take their ridiculously low cash in lieu! I can accept neither of them! I will find a reputable and reliable contractor to fix my AC and ask for the fairly reimbursement! If this is the way that AHS treated their customer, then I have to file a lawsuit in small claim court.

I was required to use American Home Shield due to a "seller paid" home warranty. Within two weeks of purchasing the home, the A/C unit's compressor broke, which resulted going through AHS for the repair. Keep in mind that this is June in Texas where we are experiencing record high temps and my wife is disabled following a massive stroke. Apparently a new compressor was ordered and shipped, but never arrived. AHS would not order a new compressor until the original unit was located.
Bottom line, after 40 DAYS, the repair was completed. Not only that, but I had to pay $200 out of pocket for materials not covered by the warranty. You would think after this ridiculous experience that AHS would have picked up that minimal cost in order to save some face. AHS was for the most part non-responsive to requests for updates during the process and needless to say, exhibited a lack of compassion that was borderline criminal. I urge anyone considering an AHS home warranty to STAY AWAY!!

Deceitful Agent Resulted in over $5000 of out of pocket payments: Last Tuesday I called AHS to let them know that my A/C had a leak in it and told them that I would only allow a service tech to come if they fixed the leak and not just put in Freon. The agent said that Freon would only be paid at $10 a pound. I reiterated that I would require them to tell the service company that there was a leak and that I would expect it to be fixed as I had already had another company diagnose the issue. They again said they would pay $10 a pound for Freon. I asked them to confirm my coverage in case I needed a new unit, they told me $1500.
At that point I asked to cancel my account, since it would have cost me more to replace the unit with AHS than if I replaced it using newacunit.com. And since my unit wasn't cooling and it was 107 I went ahead and bought a new unit and had it installed last Thursday. On Saturday the retention department called asking why I wanted to cancel. They told me I had been given wrong information, that if the service company had come out and filled the Freon (which I would have had to pay for $125 service fee and $500 of Freon), then a week later it had leaked it all, they would have paid me back.
The reason why the company that diagnosed the issue did not put Freon into it was that in good conscience they could not allow the Freon with Chlorine to escape into the air. Also, if a new unit was needed they would have paid 100% of the cost. I told them that if I had been provided that information I would have allowed the service company to have come out. The lady in retentions told me she would have the initial call pulled so that they could verify what I was told and try get authorizations to help resolve this and I would get a call Monday. It is Wednesday and I still haven't got a response. I have so far been on hold without speaking to anyone for 15 minutes. This is unacceptable service.

I called American Home Shield (AHS) on 7 July regarding our air conditioner that wasn't working. I was given a case number, and was told the contractor would call within 48 hours with an appointment. On 9 July, I called AHS because the contractor had not called to set an appointment. I also informed the service rep that the lack of air conditioned air in the house was affecting my 80 year old mother's breathing, so the rep made the case an 'expedited' case due to health issues. Later on in the late afternoon, the contractor calls to set an appointment. The soonest they can come out is 12 July.
On 12 July, the contractor comes at about 9:00 am, checks the air conditioning unit, and after checking the evaporator coil, decides that because the system is mismatched, the entire unit needed to be replaced. I informed him that approximately 3 years ago, another contractor that AHS sent out, had installed a new 3 ton condenser, even though the evaporator coil was a 5 ton unit, keeping the system mismatched. The contractor stated that he would get the information, and the photos of the frozen over evaporator coil to AHS immediately.
On 13 July, I called to find out the status of our case, and the service rep stated that the contractor hadn't sent the information in yet. I called on every business day from that day on, until 23 July, and the answer was still the same... The contractor had not sent in the pricing information yet. In all of that time, none of the personnel at AHS made any effort, other than a quick phone call, to obtain that information from the contractor, even though this was in the AHS computer system as an 'expedited case'. During the phone call on 23 July, it was decided that it was best that another contractor was used to actually expedite our case. Meanwhile, we're having a high number of days where the temperature outside is in excess of 100 degrees, and my mother is suffering. In order for my mother to be able to breathe comfortably, I had to increase the amount of oxygen she was getting, and I also informed the personnel I spoke to of this.
On 24 July, the second contractor AHS found came out much later than the actual time that they were supposed to be out. I informed the contractor of what the first contractor had done, which he really didn't want to hear. He looked at the blower unit, then told me to turn on the unit. I did so, and we went outside to the condenser unit. The contractor hooked up an instrument, and explained the reading to his helper, which was obviously in training. We went back to the blower/evaporator unit, at which time I noticed a burning odor. The contractor looks carefully this time, and notices that the capacitor was missing. He went to his vehicle, got a capacitor, but the motor was now burnt. It would appear that the first contractor took the capacitor out, and the second contractor clearly failed to look the unit over well, before having me turn it on.
We are now well into the third week without a functioning air conditioner, with the extra problem of the burnt blower motor which must now be replaced. Couple that with a host of personnel at AHS that have clearly shown us that they could care less about us, except when it comes to them receiving their monthly fee for providing us with a total lack of service. I couldn't recommend AHS to my worst enemy.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

5 Weeks with no AC in July. COMPLETELY UPSET, DISAPPOINTED, AND ANGRY!!! I first want to say that your company and its representatives are horrible! Everything that is promised, stated, or advertised is a complete lie and your company should be sued, bankrupt, and honestly its owners should face legal action.
My family purchased your two year new homeowner plan in January. We paid our contract fee in three monthly installments to total $981. On June 21st our Air Conditioning stopped working and we felt reassured because we had invested in your so called warranty plan. I immediately picked up the phone and put in a service request. I was told that a local contractor would call me within 24 hours and I paid my service fee of $106. 4 days later I received a call from DMC Di Dolce Mechanical Contractors, LLC. They scheduled a service visit for June 28th, now a week after the issue occurred.
A young technician came out and couldn't figure out the problem after a few called to his, "Uncle," for assistance, he determined that the entire unit was faulty and he could give me a "deal," if I paid him $3,200, didn't go forward with American Home Shield, and he would install it within 3 days. The other option was he could attempt to order a new circuit/control board for the furnace and told me it could take 1-2 weeks for the part to come in. I denied his "deal," and decided to stick with American Home Shield and go through the process of getting the new circuit board that would be covered under our warranty. Two weeks go by and I could not get a straight answer from DMC.
I would call and he would say he was busy and would call me back, but never did. I would text and inquire about the part and its arrival and he would respond that he would check on its status, but no update from him after that. After the 2 weeks ordering time has passed (now at 3 weeks with no AC in July) I called American Home Shield to ask what is the best plan moving forward? They attempted to reach out to DMC and confirmed that they did not pick up the phone and that they "abandoned," the job. American Home Shield set me up with another local contractor and said they would call to schedule a service visit within 24 hours. Friday July 13th in the evening I get a call from this contractor and they state that they are going on vacation and couldn't doing a service visit until the following week, July 23rd.
This would put us at over a month without AC!!! I denied the week out scheduling and called back American Home Shield on July 16th to discuss other options. They said that the two contractors were the only ones in my area and that they would reach out to a further radius for others. The representative kept me on hold while she made those calls and told me that some hung up the phone once they heard it was American Home Shield, and others blatantly said they didn't want to work for your company. Unreal!
The other option that the representative told me was to do an Outside Authorization. This meant that I can pick a local company to do a service call on my furnace and they would submit the diagnosis to AHS for approval. Simple I thought! I called a local company, that I do not want to state here as they have been nothing but positive and I don't want to associate them with your awful company, and they arrived the next day for diagnostics. Within minutes they found that the problem was a shortage in the circuit board.
They could order a new one and have it within 1-2 days!!! 1-2 days not 1-2 weeks like DMC Contractors. On July 18th they submitted their information to AHS for approval and we tentatively scheduled the repair for July 25th to allow time for AHS to approve. After not hearing from AHS for 2 days I called them up on July 21st and they stated that they haven't received any information from my outside contractor and I needed to call them. I called them and they reconfirmed that they submitted everything on the 18th. On July 23rd I spent a good 3 hours on the phone with AHS trying to figure out why we were not getting the approval. It was simply because the diagnosis, "did not provide enough detail."
I asked what information did they need and they stated the year the furnace was installed so that they can determine if it was under warranty or not. 1999 I responded and confirmed it was not under warranty. That was apparently not good enough so AHS determined that we needed to get a second opinion on the circuit board replacement.
This is the best part! Guess which company AHS sets us up with for a second opinion... DMC Di Dolce Mechanical Contractors!!! The first company that came out, tried to scam us, abandoned the job, and AHS confirmed that we shouldn't use them! Absolutely insane and embarrassing! Even better, from their first service visit they emailed me a invoice that stated the circuit board needed replacement confirming my outside authorized contractor was correct. I emailed this directly to the claims department to show/confirm a second opinion and I still have heard nothing back! I called AHS today July 24th and spoke to a representative who eventually transferred me to the authorization department since she agreed that we just need approval for our outside company to do the work.
After speaking with the authorization department representative they said that we still need a second opinion and that they were going to have contract relations reach out to DMC to see what the issue was. Round and round we go!!! I was supposed to have multiple representative call me back with updates throughout this process with promises that they claimed to help me out and guess how many got back to me? ZERO! Tomorrow is supposed to be the day that the outside company is to replace our circuit board for a total job cost of about $600, but I had to cancel it due to no approval from AHS. So here we sit with no AC in July for 5 weeks with a $1,000 warranty that is good as the Charmin Ultra I wipe my butt with.
All I want is the outside company to finish the job and settle this insane issue, but it seems like that is too hard for you to do. Thank you for nothing American Home Shield. I am reporting you to Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau, and sharing this post on all social media platforms. After checking out your social media pages and reviews it's quite obvious and apparent that you are a trash company as you have 1 star (probably because 0 wasn't available) out of 5 and 1000s of terrible reviews. I hope you all end up penniless and in prison for how you are ripping off hardworking individuals and families. A very heated customer (pun intended).

We just purchased our home and requested that the sellers purchase a home warranty. We were extremely dissatisfied when we found out the warranty was with American Home Shield, we had a previous warranty with them on our last house and it was nothing but problems. It took them 14 days to approve and get the parts to fix our hot water heater, so yes we went 14 days without hot water.
Our AC unit blower fan went out and in 100+ degree heat it took them almost a week to have someone come out and do the repairs. With my new property I have been on hold. Hung up on for almost two hours trying to speak with someone to get my ac blower repaired today. It is currently 106. Will continue to be in the triple digits. There is a local company that has the parts and can do the work today but do you think I could get approval. I just got hung up again. Guess I'm paying for a $190 for a service call and $560 for a new blower motor for my ac unit because I can't even speak to someone about the issue. Looking into taking American Home Shield to Small claims court for this one.

American Home Shield listens to me when I speak with them. But there were times where we had to redo a service call and then we had to repay the fee. I got tired of it. I’ve been with American Home Shield for almost two years now. And I told them that I would pay them no more fees and they should do the repair just like it should be. But I love the company they sent out for my AC claim. They were there on the spot, got it fixed and I did not have a problem since.

My AC wasn’t working and I filed a claim with American Home Shield online for a repair. The AHS site was easy to navigate and their response was very fast. The guys gave me a two-hour time and they were about 45 minutes late, but they did come and fix it on the same day. And the AC has been running okay, so far. There are situations where you don’t get covered by AHS. But I would recommend them.

There was no air flow coming through the vents of my air conditioner. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield online and the process was easy. The first contractor that was supposed to work on the repair didn’t call and didn’t show up for his appointment. Then the second contractor they put me in contact with wasn’t helpful at all. So, I just took care of the problem on my own and logged in another service, and I paid for the repair myself. But according to the contractor AHS won’t pay for anything for my doing that, so I didn’t see any reason to contact them to get my money back. It was frustrating and I now regret purchasing the home warranty.
Hi, Brian. We understand your concerns with service. Per the warranty, we would not reimburse for any work done outside of our contractors without approval. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to further discuss your concerns.

When I submitted my claims to American Home Shield, I preferred to do it over the phone and it worked well for me. Their customer service rep treated me with respect. The contractor was polite and kind and he did good. Since he came out, I have had no leak in our plumbing and it’s been working well. AHS also sent out a company for the electric and the technician was kind too, and I enjoyed that. When they send respectful people out, I love that. Also, if you have the same appliances, you can have it all done at one time. It’s just the same type of work for that one price that you pay. I’m satisfied with AHS and I like what they’re doing.

I thought I had a Freon problem but the tech from Epic Air came out and said it was a little valve, and so he tightened it and put in a new little tire valve. A day or so, the unit didn't work again. The contractor came out again and said the problem was the heat pump. The main part of the house has a heat pump and it has an air hammer inside then a compressor like the regular air conditioners on the outside. They said it had to be replaced. The air hammer was replaced and within hours, my whole downstairs was soaking wet. I have expensive carpet down there so I turned off the system and stopped as much water as I possibly could in there, in the storage closet and the furnace room. The contractor said that the pump was too level that it didn't have enough of a float to drain. He put in a pump and a little thing on the floor next to it so that if any water got there, it would cut the system off.
I have three air conditioning systems, one in my lower level and the second system in my bedroom. It’s the big system that covers the great room, the kitchen, two bedrooms and a bath in the main part of the house. I could go to the main part of the house but it's just too hot. I’ve been without air for weeks now and the techs are coming out Friday and they’re gonna install the unit on the outside. It has been pretty miserable with this issue. It's a combination of errors but the problem is having to wait so long for Epic Air, which said they had to get the approval from American Home Shield. Epic Air is so busy but they seem to be nice people. Overall I've been using American Home Shield since 1972 and I've sold many of their warranties so I like them.

This house has been insured by American Home Shield for as long as we've had the house, which is at least 14 years. We had a house prior to that in another part of Georgia and we had a home warranty with AHS too. And we've always been able to get things taken care of. We have lived out of the country and been dealing through American Home Shield. Submitting a claim has always been a fairly easy process so we've stayed with them. I used to have to call more to file claims because we were renting out and I wanted to pay the service fee ahead of time so that our renters wouldn't have to. But American Home Shield has fixed that and now, I can pay online. I file claims online more now and it's super easy. I only call if there's something specific going on.
American Home Shield also lets me pick the contractor and the people who built our house are on their list so we've been able to have the people who actually put systems come and work on our house. But there was one company I asked for and we had a terrible experience. They said that my dishwasher was destroyed by roaches, which was weird because even though we hadn't been living in the house, we kept an exterminator. I called the exterminator and had them look at it, and there was no bug evidence. The contractor just didn't wanna fix it. I told AHS that I don't want that company to come to our house again and they said okay. So I like their system. They’ve been flexible with me.
American Home Shield let me have another company come and look at the dishwasher for no charge, and they're repairing the dishwasher now. Overall, we've had a good experience with American Home Shield so when my neighbor purchased a home warranty, I got her to go with AHS as well. I had another friend who had a different home warranty and I also had her switch to AHS. There are things that aren’t covered but we've been lucky to be able to have things covered.
Good morning Bridgette

Sometimes we'll file them online, but most of the time they're over the phone. The contractors have been very good. They're always prompt to call and they're always on time. If something were to happen and they didn't show up on time, you get a phone call. And it's very easy in our rental properties to let one of the kids know that, 'cause we rent to VCU students. We just let the people know who they will be dealing with at the house and let the techs that are coming know who to ask for and which kid is gonna be there, and we pay for it online.

The contractors that AHS sent out for AC servicing overcharged me on Freon. I called AHS and asked how much the Freon was for the unit and they gave me a different price than what the contractor charged me here. I told AHS about the problem and they said that because the company serviced that the first time, we needed to give them a chance to fix it. And, if I'm dissatisfied with the contractor, I could ask for another one but it'd be another new service fee call because it's a different representative. They have come out three different times since and they still haven't fixed it. The motor was replaced, but within an hour the unit was freezing back up again. AHS put us on high-priority and they failed to come out on that urgent call.
I got back on the phone with AHS and told them that I was fed up with Just One Call. Then I was told that this new company was gonna come out and then if I didn't hear from someone within four hours to call AHS back. I called AHS and it took two hours to get through that time. Then, I was told that I was going to have to hire someone and pay for them on my own. So, I was not happy and I asked them to talk to a supervisor. And this guy was really good. He told me not to worry and that he would get on my claim personally. He called me back within half an hour with someone to come out.
The new contractor saw that the previous company left at least 1/3 of the coils filthy. He sent a request to AHS for the uncleaned coils to see if it would be okay for him to do. He also went through everything and did some troubleshooting. I’ve been a little pissed because my mother is not breathing well and needs the AC. And right now, the claim is still open. We’re hoping that what he has done will fix it.

The experience we had with my daughter’s dishwasher was the worst in the world. American Home Shield sent one guy but then they let him go and sent a new person. In my original contract, the service fee was supposed to be $75 but then they told me it was $100. We got that over with though and that was fine. But American Home Shield said that even though the dishwasher was a KitchenAid, I would get the Kenmore. I told them I don't care. I said to just please let me get it. I went online and it cost less money than what they were offering me for the buyout. And when I said I wanted the stainless steel, they said it would be an upgrade. But I had looked online and it was not. It was the same price. We also had to wait another two weeks for the dishwasher. The Sears right around the corner from me had it in stock but they told me it didn't matter. I would have to wait for when they get it.
In the interim, I had a problem with a spigot outside. All the other ones around the house were working fine but for some reason, that one wouldn’t turn off no matter what we did. We had to shut the whole thing down and none of the spigots worked until I got somebody here. I submitted the claim over the phone because it’s better for me to talk to and explain. But the girl I spoke to didn’t know what a spigot was. She said that she had to look it up and she had me on the phone for about half an hour then finally she said I was covered. But when the contractor came, he didn't do anything. He went to his truck and he was there for a while, then he said I wasn't covered according to what he was supposed to be doing. But why would the girl send him over here if it was not covered?
Then the heating element in my son's microwave wasn't working and when I called American Home Shield, they said I had a balance of $207. I realized that a microwave was only $100 and that I could replace it myself. So I told them to forget about the microwave but I asked about the $200 charge. The girl took all my information then she understood. She said that I shouldn't have been charged. I was told that it was covered but the guy said I was not covered so why was I being charged $207? Then American Home Shield went down to $100. I just got another bill from them. My husband was a builder but when he died, I needed to get something because I didn't know how to fix things. But I've had a terrible experience with American Home Shield. I’m working 24/7 now that I don’t have my husband and then to have this happen, it really hurts.
We also had an issue with my son's air conditioning and I paid the contractor $1,100 to repair the coil instead of going to American Home Shield. It took American Home Shield over a month to do my daughter's dishwasher and this was heating and air conditioning. My son is completely bedridden and I would never make him wait months in the heat.
I’m to the point where now I’m gonna open my mouth. I put it off the last time because I said it was just a bad experience. I let it go but this time, I've had it. I'm a realtor with Diane Turton and I'm gonna tell her what happened to us. I have to. This happened to me with American Home Shield and as a realtor, it's embarrassing. My livelihood is referrals. 99% of my business are from past clients who recommend me because they know I do a good job. If we recommend people, we want service. All my past customers, who I recommended American Home Shield to, still talk to me but this could have happened to them and they never told me.

Several of the circuits in a couple of bedrooms as well as in the main entry way had gone bad. We turned in a report to American Home Shield and we were fortunate because at the time, we also had a pending claim for our ceiling fan. A company here in Richardson, Texas came to pick it up and was repairing it. And they had an appointment with us to reinstall it on Monday. It was Sunday night that the circuit went out and we turned in the claim. Then we followed up with phone calls and on Monday morning, AHS assigned the electric circuit issue to the same electricians from All American Electrical that were doing the ceiling fan. And they were nice enough to piggy back it on the ceiling fan appointment.
So, we had two separate claims but the techs were able to come out immediately and finish dealing with both issues. Things worked out really well. While they were here to reinstall the repaired ceiling fan, they checked out the circuits. As they worked their way through the house testing from the breaker box on back, they found that a laptop sitting on the dining room table was plugged into an electrical socket in the dining room area and the outlet that it was plugged into had a short in it. They replaced that and everything started working again. So far, everything’s working the way it’s supposed to be.
However, we observed that the electricians that came out that did all the work opened up the circuit breaker boxes on the exterior of the house right with the light meter. And in the process of checking everything out, they pulled the inside plate that covers all the wiring and everything in the breaker box itself. Unfortunately, they left without putting that cover back in place, which left all that wiring and everything exposed. Then, the guy who went out found it because we keep that box locked and he was gonna put the locks back on it. So he put the plate back in place then locked the box up. There are no children around the house but it was a little disconcerting and I wrote a reply to Home Shield about that.
Other than that, AHS has been very responsive. For some reason, we end up turning things in on weekends and we don’t expect any of response from them. But we have to be assigned to somebody and usually the people that the job’s been assigned to contact us within a couple of hours. Also, we don’t have to spend all morning calling our friends and asking them if they know a good technician to work on something. AHS takes care of that then we pay our deductible on our policy and keep on going. The other key to it is they’re pretty good to communicate but we also need to actively pay them and make sure that we’re communicating with the contractor.

We bought our home last December 2018. Our first experience with American Home Shield was excellent! We were very happy because the first service called. I had a technician check out the washer, dryer and dishwasher which were all found to be in poor condition. We were ecstatic when American Home Shield replaced all three appliances without dispute. Now for the bad news. Two weeks after moving into our home the air conditioner quit working properly freezing the coils in the Attic and causing part of our ceiling to fall to the floor. We were disappointed to find the damage to our ceiling was not covered. We have had the air conditioning serviced 8 or 10 times in the last 6 months and still are very unhappy because the air conditioning is not efficient
The air conditioning in this house is 28 years old. All the components in the air conditioning unit have failed and been replaced but, still not efficient enough to maintain the cooler temperatures we need. Well temperatures outside are over 90 degrees. All the different technicians that have come out to service our air conditioner have told us the same thing. The AC unit is working to its full capacity but cannot maintain temperatures in the house because it is no longer efficient.
When it is 90 degrees outside the coolest we can get the house inside is 80 degrees. 8 years ago this home had a total weatherization done on it. All the windows have been replaced with vinyl double pane energy efficient Windows, patio doors, and attic insulation has been installed. The air conditioning unit cannot maintain temperature inside the house and our air conditioning bill was over $400 last month. We continue to talk with the people at American Home Shield only to find that there is nothing they will do about it because it works.
We are very upset about the way this whole situation has evolved because my wife is on disability with an issue that causes her to fight for healthy oxygen in her blood. Because of her condition she is not mobile enough to be out of the house all the time and has to lay around just to maintain her energy and oxygen levels. She is stuck in this house at 80 degrees every afternoon because our air conditioning system is old worn-out inefficient and it is costing us too much money.
When I talked to the service reps with American Home Shield they assure us that they have replaced many air conditioning units. I find it hard to believe because all the techs that have been out here have told us that they have never seen this company replace an air conditioner. The technicians would even told us that they're not allowed to write that the air conditioner should be replaced on a work order because they would be fired even though they believe it needs to be replaced.
I am in a state where I don't know what to do because I can't afford the cost of replacing this AC. I have looked at the Better Business Bureau and was shocked to see all of the complaints from people who have had American Home Shield. I am additionally disturbed to see that many of the complaints involved the air conditioning issues similar to what I have encountered.
Here is a comparison... You take your car to the mechanic because it will only go up to 25 mph and your gas mileage is only 5 mpg. American Home Shield will say that's okay because it still runs. My AC runs non-stop and still can't get below 80 inside when it's 90 outside. That's okay because it's running according to American Home Shield. PS, asked to speak to someone with management many times. Never happened.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

I requested service for the first time on my garbage disposal. Paid the fee. Disposal randomly started working again, so I cancelled my appointment with the service company and called AHS to get my $75 fee back. It took 6 phone calls and a combined total of just under 2.5 hours to get it back, and I still don’t have it in my bank account. That was just the process I had to go through for someone to tell me they submitted a refund request! So many employees and supervisors that had absolutely no clue what they were doing. Makes me more than hesitant to ever use this warranty service again!
Hi, Hannah. We apologize that you had this happen. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to discuss your concerns.

I live in rural MT, and bought a house here almost a year and a half ago. We are the biggest town for about 250 miles, and we have a population of 5,000. When I bought my house, I purchased the Shield Plus home warranty from American Home Shield. Over the last year, I have submitted two different claims, and the experience for both of those has been frustrating. My understanding after talking to a supervisor is that AHS policy is for me to submit a claim, then they find a contractor to service the issue. If they are unable to find a contractor, they are to contact me within 48 hours with another contractor, and then if they are not able to find anyone, they give me authorization to get an outside contractor.
The first time I made a claim, it was two days after I made the claim - a clogged drain in a shower - that I was contacted and told they would find a contractor in my area to fix it. Three days later I called them and found out they were still looking. Eventually I got authorization to get an outside contractor. So I did the legwork, and the reimbursement check from AHS came in on time. The issue ended up being in cement, so I got a check in lieu of repair, and that system worked well.
This last time, I have a leak in the drain pipe behind my washing machine. I made a claim eight days ago. I was told that I would hear back in four hours. I called back four days later and got disconnected twice. I did not hear anything from AHS during this time. Yesterday, I spent an hour and eight minutes on the phone and was verbally given outside authorization and told the email with the confirmation number was on the way. This morning I called back after not getting the email. After being on hold for 29 minutes I was disconnected. I am now back on hold... Everyone is polite, but when AHS cannot use their connections and need to get outside help, there is clearly an issue.
AHS will not cover any water damage that happens while the leak is not being fixed. So, in reality, their slow response is costing me out of pocket money to fix water damage that is not being addressed because of poor communication and an inability to quickly authorize outside contractors in the rural part of the country in which I live. AHS may be great in urban areas, but I would highly discourage anyone in rural areas to use AHS for their home warranty. My experience is that as a company they are just not at all set up to take care of rural customers.

I had received what turned out to be an email in error regarding a service request I didn't make. I tried to all of the phone numbers I could find for American Home Shield on my contract or any other place I had a phone number in order to speak to a customer service rep. Each time, about 15 times, my call was disconnected after the robot said they would transfer me to a customer service person. Are there any live persons working at this company or is it all controlled by online activity only? The choices that the robot gave didn't include speaking to a live customer service person, I tried them all. Very disappointed in this. However, when I have needed service, that all has gone well. But don't like not having someone to actually be able to talk to at this company.
Hi, Loretta. We apologize that you were unable to get any assistance over the phone with your concerns about the email that was sent in error. A Social Media Specialist will contact you to discuss your concerns.

After years of paying monthly payments I finally had a warranty covered home issue. No contractor, No response... After days of work I received authorization to use an outside vendor and seek reimbursement on the back end. Totally denied by AHS and they would not help resolve. Do you have days and hours to waste on the phone? Do you want to hear contractors complain after learning that you are a AHS customer? Me neither!
Hi, T. We apologize for the issues you have had with getting your service request resolved. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you.

My refrigerator felt less cool than normal, so I contacted American Home Shield (AHS) who contacted their repair organization to schedule an appointment. The first company had no openings for 1 week so I called AHS back who contacted another company. This 2nd company scheduled for later in the week, so I moved all of my groceries into a cooler until they arrived. The tech was very knowledgeable and identified a fan motor that had quit. He said their vendor would take up to a week to send a fan, so we made arrangements with coolers and ice for the next week. After two weeks went by, I started calling them daily for an update and was told that the fan was on back order and they couldn't determine when it would be available. Their best guess was another 10 days to two weeks.
I did a quick internet search to find this fan readily available from 3 different sources (GE parts direct, Sears Parts, eBay), so I contacted AHS with the information. They first said there was nothing they could do, because it was back ordered from the vendor, but I reiterated that it was readily available from multiple online sources (for under $100 delivered) - so they asked me to be patient while they investigated and they would call me back with any options available to me.
We threw out all of our groceries, including milk, eggs, cheese and meats. I understand their business model of only using certain vendors for coverage issues, but cannot condone the lack of customer awareness that could lead to health concerns when dealing with refrigerated foods. If a refrigerator can't be fixed within a week, it should be replaced - or obtain parts outside of normal channels. Seriously, in this current day of internet availability, no part should endanger the health of a family in America, when it is readily available at nominal cost.
Hi, David. We apologize for the delays in the parts being received by the vendor. A Social Media Specialist will contact you directly to discuss your concerns.

The repairman was supposed to fixed my commode. Instead he broke the tank on one and broke the other one. Calling customer service was no good because they wanted to charged me a fee again for a second opinion. I told them since the other repairman had already broken it they knew another one would say the same. Also the repairman told me he was going to fix my other bathroom and he had left. The repairman had water all over my floor. I was left to clean up my bathroom and get all the water off the floor. This company is not what they supposed to be.
I understand your concerns with the commode repairs that were not completed. I would be glad to speak with your regarding the repairs and address any remaining concerns.
