DR Horton is a scam company and should not be allowed to build homes. They use a model home as a bait and switch tactic because for one you don't get the same quality of work they put into the model or the same products. They are a scam and should be held financially responsible for the horrible workmanship they do and that they leave the homeowners with needing to spend out of their pockets for all of the repairs even though they purchased a new home. I purchased a brand new home in 2021 from DR Horton or so what I thought was going to be a brand new home.
Since my husband and I moved in we have had an endless list of problems in this house starting with cracked roof tiles, missing roof tiles, a cracked tub, drywall issues, missing paint on walls, broken door, broken sliding screen door, cracked flooring tiles, our island was not faceted, none of the sinks in either bathroom are faceted, they did one coat of paint on the outside of our house and there's white spots and missing areas of paint everywhere. The kitchen cabinets we received have water damage on the bottom of them. They installed the crown molding on the cabinets incorrectly and there are huge gaps, and gouges and warped cabinet doors, that they say they didn't do even though they were like this when we moved in and we've been in an ongoing battle to get them repaired and replaced for almost 2 years now just to be told they are refusing to do anything.
Timberlake Cabinetry is who they use which delivers subpar product and crappy installation. They refused to replace anything and put all of the responsibility on the homeowner even though the homeowner can't obtain the same product because they are a distributor to home builders. The flooring company Jr McDade needs to hire better people that are qualified to lay flooring because 6 months into moving in our seams in our carpet started to pull apart and they refused to do anything about it, not to mention they leave behind rocks and debris under the carpet so you feel rocks under your feet when you walk because the padding is garbage. The tiles are also not laid evenly and the grout has pits and uneven throughout the entire house.
We have spent almost 2 years now going back and forth with the reps for DR Horton to get all of these things taken care of because they hook you in with the fact that you get a year warranty to take care of issues but the reps don't respond to the emails you send or phone calls so the year warranty is useless because you can't get the work done. I had finally had to reach out to an attorney to see what my options are to get help since DR Horton refused to take care of the crappy work they did. So DR Horton then seems interested in coming out because they are worried about a lawsuit just to send their legal rep Allen from DR Horton out who was extremely rude. He talked over me the whole time and tried to talk down to me and educate me since I am a woman and there's just no way I would understand anything about home builds.
He talked down to me and was condescending stating "Ma'am you're expecting a Jaguar home when you purchased a Honda home". That just goes to show what he thinks about DR Horton's workmanship, the company he works for, that unless you spend millions you get ** work. He also promised to fix things in our kitchen and after he left I heard nothing from DR Horton so I reached out to the rep and she stated, "Per Allen unfortunately we can't replace those things we told the homeowner we would do," so now I am stuck with the responsibility of paying for all of these things that were supposed to be new in my new home.
They should take pride in the homes and how they build them so they have happy customers not throw a house together like ** and leave it to be the homeowner's problem. I am very disappointed and astonished at how DR Horton builds homes and treats their buyers. I will continue to advocate against people purchasing DR Horton Homes!
Thank you for sharing Emilee. We forwarded your concerns to our management team in Chandler for their review and appropriate action.
We bought our first home from D. R. Horton in March 2022. It's been seven months since the builder promised to grade our backyard with six inches of topsoil before seeding it with grass seeds. The backyard does not have a flat surface. It is littered with stones and has an uneven surface, making it dangerous to walk on or even mow. We have been requesting that the builder take care of our backyard, but they have not paid any attention. The home is still in warranty but they don't care about the homeowners. It is also a violation of the Pennsylvania building code, where the builder is supposed to provide a healthy lawn with at least 6 inches of topsoil on it. We do not recommend any potential buyer buy a home from this builder. They do not care about homeowners' comfort and safety. It was our worst home-buying experience. Mayank
Thank you for your review, Mayank. We shared your comments with our senior management in Pennsylvania for their appropriate action.
I have had the house for 14 years. The first thing that I was not pleased with is that they put carpet in the master bathroom. I had to rip it out and put tile. Also no door to the master bathroom, only one to the toilet which may give you claustrophobia. Homes are cookie cutter homes, ok for the first time home buyers but should be priced accordingly.
D.R. Horton. East Florida. The Greens at Indian River Preserve by D.R. Horton. We have been waiting a home being built for nearly the entirety of 2022. We have received almost zero communication during the entire process; having to reach out to the incompetent staff at their local office for anything resembling an update. Estimate after estimate of completion being pushed back months and months. And now the loan department has wrapped up their end of things and are expecting to close in less than 2 weeks. The home isn't finished. It being finished in under 9 months let alone 2 weeks more is quite apparently insurmountable for them. They obviously have problems not only communicating with me but their entire extended network. Getting real annoyed of being contacted by their "smart-home liaison" or virtually anyone in lending for a house that isn't finished.

I will keep this short because I have been going back and forth with this company since before I closed on the townhome in Union Park East - Wesley Chapel. Long story short, I annotated a stucco crack on my lanai that was concerning prior to closing, DR Horton assured me it was nothing to get me to close on the home with a band-aid repair, and then they finally decide to peel back the stucco when the crack reappeared only to find that the concrete block was severely damaged from the slab to the lanai ceiling. There was also garbage in my wall and they were almost apathetic to it all. Like it was just another day of doing business for them. I will give them credit because they resurfaced the floor of my lanai but to be honest, the original surface was infested with imperfections, holes, and a massive crack as well.
Their "engineers" recommended to pour it solid with a specific rating of psi after making two small openings. They didn't even do that right. An individual came with a bucket, hammered massive holes in my wall, and jammed Sakrete mix into the wall along with shoving the broken block pieces in the wall opening. That is what they mean when they "pour it solid". They also applied a metal lathe but were so aggressive on hammering the studs that it damaged the block further -- the cracks reappeared after a week of this "repair", shocker.
I open up yet another warranty ticket demanding this be fixed, a swarm of DR Horton employees come to my property, rip some stucco off the wall, and ask for previous photos of the original crack which I provided same day. It has been almost 2 weeks and I have not heard back. Regardless of whether or not this gets fixed -- I am urging everyone to never go with this company for a new home or at a minimum NEVER close until they fix every single item (yes, every item to YOUR standard). If they don't like it, then let some other fool deal with the damaged home.
Don't let them gaslight you into closing by telling you this is actually normal. They will sweet talk you and make it seem like they will give you a new home if it isn't right but after you close, you are irrelevant. I have emails of DR Horton acknowledging that some of their own people said it was a problem, photos of previous "repairs", and evidence to prove I am not some entitled customer looking for free stuff. I have told them from the very beginning that I just want the wall fixed properly.
Hello Christian. Thank you for sharing your experience. We forwarded your comments to our management team in Tampa for their action.
Go on the Better Bureau Business (BBB) page for D.R. Horton and read the list of almost entirely negative reviews. You might think some of those posts couldn't possibly relate to you or apply to your experience with them. But I will tell you right now that if you buy in Lubbock, you better consider those reviews seriously. Nothing defines their management and home building here more than pure incompetence and corruption.
First, their subcontractors drink on the job. I was sitting on my back porch the other day only to watch the painters slam some bud light in the middle of the afternoon and not stop. This drinking will explain why paint is scattered all over your floors after closing for you to clean up. Second, they will install broken material and products into your house. You will have to fight to get them to fix issues that never should have even been a concern or a stressor for you. I had to go to the BBB before closing so that they wouldn't install trim that had been lying in the mud for over a week, fix a dented vent cover that looked like they kicked it in, and fix a window that wouldn't even shut. I don't know a single person that didn't have an issue with their roofs. Third, there is no craftsmanship. Their salesman will lie to you and tell you not to expect a perfect home, but they will give you a home you will love. Sounds great, right?
They will use the non-perfect home excuse to make you accept something beyond what should be legally allowed. You will not find a straight wall in the entire house. If you need more evidence of how much they don't care, look at the trim in the homes they build that looks like a dented, wobbly, off-centered mess. Fourth, expect retaliation for standing up for yourself. They let subcontractors piss in our cabinets for calling their horrible work into question before closing. Even worse was that D.R. Horton was notified and let the subcontractors get away with it. We didn't get an apology.
It doesn't stop there. I had to go to the police three times and file four complaints with D.R. Horton's corporate office for what should be considered criminal harassment perpetrated by their contractors. Even when you have evidence of the subcontractors screaming at your house and destroying your property, D.R. Horton still doesn't fire them and will continue to allow them to work near your home in an attempt to instigate an issue. Imagine trying to mow your grass or fix the problems on your home that were D.R. Horton's fault and getting screamed at by the contractors hired by the company you bought a house from. Don't worry; when you file a complaint with the police or D.R. Horton and the individual you filed a complaint against is waiting outside your home for multiple days for you and your wife, the police in Lubbock and D.R. Horton don't care.
I highly recommend you legally carry in their construction zones. Fifth, there will be an endless cycle of warranty issues. Every time they send a worker here to fix an issue covered by the warranty, they leave another issue behind or do even more damage. It doesn't end until your warranty is up. D.R. Horton is not just America's largest builder but the builder of the worse homes in America. So despite whatever situation you are personally in, I highly recommend you don't ignore that gut feeling that something is wrong with this company and that you STAY AWAY.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We have brought this to the attention of our management team in Lubbock for their review.
Don’t even know where to start to tell you about DR Horton. From their shady salespeople bait and switching me showing me renderings of a backyard around 60 percent larger than the one I got, to silverfish and cricket infestation, floods due to their workers throwing debris down our toilet and my neighbors, my neighbor across the street has a big hole in the side of his house due to a water leak in the master shower, garbage and debris blowing onto our lawn and property daily due to the overflowing dumpsters due to construction workers overloading them and the developer not cleaning them out enough, nails on the sidewalks you have to step around to avoid one going through your shoe/foot, toilet flapper already malfunctioning causing my water bill to go up, construction workers parked on the sidewalk in front of your house and a management company on HORTON’s payroll or deep in their pockets who do absolutely nothing to improve conditions.
Security gate broken more than functional the last two months, a ** head scales my neighbor’s retaining wall into their backyard two months ago, a dubious arson which has my nearby neighbors without internet for months. Streetlights on both ends of our block nonfunctional since March, only one has yet to be fixed. Workers violating building code and starting before 6am the first month we moved in, blasting loud music and waking you up every AM.
Workers at night past 7pm violating building codes most nights. They drive their personal cars instead of their work trucks and park them in the driveways of the houses they work in so they look like residents who live there. And now retaliatory violation from the management company for two dead plants which died from sun overexposure because the landscapers improperly chose their location. Touch up paint doesn’t match the original. Paint hanging down from dining room ceiling one month after we moved in. Need I go on? Everything documented either with photos, videos, neighbors who can verify, etc. Run, don’t walk away from this builder.

Bought home on Jan 2022. Not even completed one year and having horrible experience with warranty team. It's my mistake. I did not do search before buying the home about this builder. They don’t do innocent mistake by mistakenly. My home has such big construction flaw with main hall windows (which do not have even gap between windows) and after opening the warranty ticket for past seven months they still did not fix it. Never trust this builder or its sales agent. All my kitchen cabinets have problem, and they closed my ticket without fixing it. They don’t even follow PA standards. Squeaking sound of carpet was partially fixed with hundreds of nails. Very low standard of work and services provided.
Hello Supriya. Thank you for sharing your comments. To best assist you we have forwarded your concerns to our management team in Pennsylvania for their review and action.
We just purchased our new home and have now been living in for about a month. During the first walkthrough inspection our side yard was full of water and when we brought up the issue we were told it would be gone in 48 hours. During the walkthrough we were rushed through in less than an hour and the only thing that seemed to be pointed out by the representative conducting the walkthrough was minor imperfections in the paint. The day before closing we did our final walkthrough and the water was still in the side yard. Once again we were told the requirements for standing water with the sod was it can last 48 hours. The difficult repairs did not want to be addressed. Only quick fixes such as paint imperfections. Now we have been here a month and the yard never drains.
The neighbor's foundation is much higher than our house and with the faulty grade all of the water drains down from his yard and fills up our side and now the water is up against the foundation. After waiting weeks to find out if it was something they could repair after first being told it’s not covered under the warranty they sent a crew out to attempt a repair. I was assured that the gentleman I initially discussed the issue with would be there to supervise but never saw him. The crew destroyed the side yard and cut our Wi-Fi cable in the process.
They reused the old pieces of sod as an attempt to regrade the side up against our house, left multiple holes for water to continue to fill up and left a mud hole from the back to the front of the house and didn’t even bury the Wi-Fi cable. All I want is for the yard to be fixed correctly and be done with the disaster this has caused. The standing water has caused a terrible smell and now the side is no longer usable due to the swamp that has started. No one should have to be fixing mistakes that should have been corrected prior to a move in within the first month of occupying a new home.

Very pushy sales person.. bad quality material, they used Bell Mechanical to install air conditioning unit, very cheap for them, usually broke down in five years. Ask them to use a different contractor.
This was my husband and I first home together. This was the worse home buying experience we have ever encountered. Our new home should have been the highlight of our memories has become a disaster and the worse decision made. It has been problem after problem since closing. We have had their cheap appliances go out and their staff unable to find the serial number to the cooktop to try and get them repaired. We are having electrical problems throughout the home. The garage has water damage when there is heavy rain.
We noticed a new spot on the ceiling with water damaged was told it is from the water heater. Which we can't figure out why would the garage ceiling leak from that. The only thing DRH did was slapped some paint on it. We don't know if there is mold on the ceiling or not. The back door hits the door trim. The front door opens all the way and all the bugs just come flying in the house. The front door is fading. The crown molding in the family room and kitchen area has been repaired several times and still looks awful. The shower in the master bathroom leaks and has been repaired several times and continues to leak. Squeaking floors upstairs. The water pressure is low in the master bathroom.
The home warranty department is a joke. We were told if the problem was noted the first year of the warranty then it will continue to be repaired. They have honored that so far for the garage, but not for the shower. This was a significant investment for us and this has been a nightmare. Love the floor plan, but that problems and the stress that come with it is not worth it. We are truly disappointed and will NEVER build with DRH again. If we could move and buy another home at this time we would. DRH advertise as America's number one builder more like the #1 nightmare. They need to get rid of that slogan. DRH should put themselves in the consumer shoes. This has been the worse investment ever.
Hello Tayana. We forwarded your review to our team in Fort Worth to ensure all warrantable concerns at your home are appropriately resolved.
I purchased a D.R. Horton home in 2020. The home has substandard carpet, and paint, has missing studs, and my yard floods when it rains. I have been on a merry-go-round since the 1-year walk-through with the builder. I attempted to wall mount a television only to discover there was no stud in the required location. When I reported this in my walk-through, I was told D.R. Horton staff will investigate how to fix this. A few weeks later they sent out a manager who said it would be too costly to fix the problem and instructed me to hang the television on another wall.
I am also sadly disappointed in the quality of the carpeting and paint. The carpet showed poor workmanship in the first six months. The carpet pad has hard pieces in it and the carpet is horrible and has extensive wear even though we do not wear shoes in our home and we have the carpet cleaned regularly. I had the carpet inspected by D.R. Horton's warranty partner several times. Despite D.R. Horton staff admitting the carpet is defective and dozens of calls and emails, the problem has not been resolved to this day, two years later. The two years have been riddled with staff quitting and losing photographs of the poor-quality carpet and many excuses from the builder and warranty partner. I have also spent over six hundred dollars on carpet cleaning to be warranty compliant. However, they have not held up their end of the bargain.
My yard floods when it rains on the sides and back. D.R. Horton personnel inspected it and gave no help with repairs. The AC unit drains and leaves my back yard saturated near the foundation year-round. Many of my neighbors have a similar problem as expressed at our HOA meetings. Also worth mentioning, they used the cheapest possible contractor grade paint on the walls. Buying a home is one of the biggest investments most families make. Overall, if asked would I recommend D.R. Horton to other buyers my answer hands down would be "no". Their claims to Americas Best Builder are misleading at best. Buyer beware!!!
Moved to a brand new home built by DR Horton in oviedo, FL. From the first day I brought up the water build up - (before purchasing the home) Was told they will fix it. Fast forward 2 years later after multiple warranty requests (HAVE THE PROOF VIA EMAIL) about 30 claims.. They said they cannot help - now everytime it rises I have an ocean in the back yard which takes about 3 days to dry up.
I know they will not do anything now, they have basically stopped answering calls and emails. I am hoping a future owner will see this and may impact their buying with DR Horton. As per usual the small guy gets hurt.. Unfortunately it's the way of life here in the USA. The big boys can bully their way out - but us... No! Our money isnt green. I Will be getting in touch with all the future home buyers that are planning to purchase the NEW homes under construction. Hoping to change some minds and ruffle some trees.
I went under contract for a new DR Horton Build in January with an estimated closing time frame of March-April, per builder agent. The builder agent was difficult to get information from and we were not given a closing date until end of June. This was set for July 8th. The builder continued to delay the closing citing "supply chain issues". However, I had to keep "babysitting" the builder by calling the agent, project supervisors, and headquarters. Less than forty eight hours before a scheduled closing date of August 5th, the builder agent notified us that the closing would be delayed due to a "missing dishwasher". After calling for more information, it turns out she was not being entirely forthcoming and that in fact the house was missing TWELVE windows. This was relayed to us less than two days before scheduled closing.
I persisted for two weeks to have windows located and installed. I was only successful because I convinced the project manager to remove windows that they had already installed in another house (yet mine were "backordered"?) and put them into mine. When I tried to get closing rescheduled, DR Horton finally set a date TWO WEEKS out because they were unprepared and did NOT pass certificate of occupancy. DR Horton's delays caused my rate lock to expire, and I was charged a daily fee by my lender to maintain my interest rate. Despite negotiating using my realtor, DR Horton refused to compensate me for my four month construction delay, NOR pay for the rate lock fees incurred due to DR Horton's inability to plan accordingly for their homes to be completed in a timely fashion.
The home was finally completed and closed mid-August, which was four months after the scheduled completion date. It is nearly impossible to contact anyone from this builder, and the representatives are unresponsive and unsympathetic. I was told to "look on the bright side" because I would "be in my new house soon" and "it's not our fault, it's how the world is right now". I warn anyone against EVER working with DR Horton to build a home. I strongly advise caution, and to select another builder. If you are a respectful person wanting to buy a home, AVOID this builder at all costs.
Hello Kelley. Many things may delay the completion of a build and the housing industry is currently facing many of those challenges. We apologize our communication was not more clear and timely and have forwarded your concern to our management in Augusta so they can address that with our team members. Thank you for being a D.R. Horton homeowner.
D.R. Horton built our first home. We have had nothing but issues with the home. Our HVAC is poorly designed. We have one unit for our 3500 sq Ft home. Master bedroom is always cool but the rest of the house is hot. We had a HVAC company come out only to tell us that the unit we have isn’t large enough for our home. We should have had two separate units. We tried closing vents in the master bedroom to get more air in the other rooms but have had no luck.
Circuits in the house are constantly tripping. We have learned what appliances we can run together. Our backyard in nonexistent. Instead of grading out the yard, we have roughly 20 feet from the back of the house that leads to a steep slope. This has caused a lot of run off on the side and rear of the yard. I had to hire someone to help stop the runoff. All my issues were reported to DR Horton. The HVAC was the only issue they attempted to repair. Had someone come out two summers in a row and still have the same issue. Now that we are “out of the warranty period” we are stuck with the bill. I will NEVER purchase a DR Horton home again.
I cannot express how disappointed I am with the quality and craftmanship of my new $575,000 home. Literally hours after closing on the home and getting my keys, I noticed HUNDREDS of insects in my garage. These insects came out at night and crept into the home under doors and through drain pipes. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE for a BRAND NEW over half a-million-dollar home!! My home is literally infested with house crickets and silverfish and it's literally only been day one!!
I noticed other issues that should never occur in a new build. I was told by the DR Horton rep said that my garage was "as is" (unsealed floor stained with dirt, grease, paintcan rust, etc. Scraped and broken dry wall, large hairline cracks, etc.). Nails in the carpet on the stairs, shoddy baseboard paintjob downstairs, house crickets coming up through the pipes at night into our sinks and upstairs, mysterious noise in our closet that is so loud that we cannot sleep in the master bedroom, a loose cabinet door that fell off as soon as we opened it, broken coach lights, and a very weak AC that is creating humidity in the driest desert on Earth somehow? Etc. I also had to spend an additional $2000 to seal grout and countertops, because I guess over half-a-million dollars wasn't enough for them to throw that in?
My old rental (15-year-old home) is literally in better condition and is better quality than my current NEW home which is $200,000 more! My home did not even come with a refrigerator, washer/dryer, or even blinds! How do you justify the price for all of this? I honestly could not believe the sloppy and shoddy craftsmanship and very cheap materials used. For the price that we paid (and boy, I would say that we have overpaid by $400k for what we have received!), this house should be turnkey ready and immaculate. This is a BRAND NEW house and I'm already stressed out of my mind trying to deal with repairs. This was why I had paid the premium for a new house- to avoid these very repairs and problems. I hope that these house crickets don't crawl into my bed tonight. AVOID this company like the plague!

Upper mgmt responded to the residence with the builder super and scheduled the needed repairs.
We moved into our new home at the end of July, 2022. Most of our punch list and home repairs were completed on the day of closing with the exception of the landscaping. The sod has 3-6 inch deep boot tracks literally everywhere, the downspouts are washing away the backyard's rock retaining wall. The sewer clean out is set in an inground box with no lid and mud/clay dug around it. It was never tamped down and sod was never relaid. The sprinkler cut off box does not have a lid. All of these are major safety issues with small children and pets using the yard.
The builder promised that these issues with be addressed, he even sent a yard crew to cut the grass on the week of 8/15/22-8/19/22, to better show the issues but he has never followed up with the actual repair. The sales rep for the neighborhood advised us on 8/21/22 that the builder would stop by on 8/22/22 to address the issue or speak with us and no contact was made. The sales rep also failed to respond to an email on 8/22/22 inquiring when the builder would be by. I have never experienced such non responsiveness and poor customer service in my entire life, buyer beware as once this company has your money they no longer honor their obligations.
We forwarded your concern to our senior management in Sandy Springs, GA for their action.
There was no option for 0 or negative, so 1 star! I got my house few months back. When I was inquiring they had sliding door behind the house on the second floor which they said it is for walkout deck/patio. They said we have to build it ourselves as it’s not included in the package. But later we got to know that they didn’t even get approval for patios to be built in that community. And also we got to know that it cannot be approved at all even if we approach to build it ourselves.
If we build it we have to pay the fine and we have to convert the sliding door into a window which also our expense. It’s a total waste having a walkout door with Nowhere to walkout. Why should they lie about we can build it later when they clearly know that it can’t be built at all. When we inquired about it they said it’s our problem now. Once you paid for the house, get ready for these kind of frustrating issues. Beware of the builder! They are still building houses in the community and trying to sell!!!
Hello Anand. We have forwarded your concern to our management team over east Pennsylvania for their review and action.
Sales team was great, the nightmare started the minute I received the keys. The moment I drove up to my first home purchase, my front yard was torn up because they were replacing 2 sidewalk squares and to this day there is a bump because they didn’t fix it properly. I walked inside to none of the blue tape issues being fixed. Fast forward almost 2 years later and I’m still having issues. They replaced my front driveway but only a few squares so my driveway is different colors. My back patio was uneven so they grinded it then put cheap paint which is now peeling 8 months later. I did not ask for this, if I wanted to paint it I would’ve done it and now I have to maintain it because they messed up my porch in the first place. 3 of my doors do not close and it’s NOT from the house settling. Every contractor they send makes the issue worse, or they have to come back several times.
The floor was cleaned before move in and they got cleaning solution on my kitchen cabinet (which I can’t get off) and stained my floors. I had a cigarette butt in my microwave vent which was ignored until I contacted the registrar of contractors of AZ. The master bathroom looks like a 12 year old did the dry wall, it’s absolutely atrocious. They sent someone to fix it and it was half done. I think their plan is to half do things so you don’t bring up other issues and they save money. Jesika ** was pleasant through the experience, it’s not her fault the company cares so little about quality. Till the day I die will tell everyone to NEVER buy a D.R Horton home. They ruined my first home buying experience, I’d been saving since I was 15 for a house and none of it has been great. More tears and frustration than anything. I should’ve went through with my formal complaint with the ROC, that’s my only regret. Only reason I purchased this home was the price.

Great initially, quick responses, until we signed the paperwork. Now that we bought the house we can't get in touch with anyone professional to fix/finish work that should have been done before we moved in. It's not 1 or 2 things that need to be addressed. It's about 30 items throughout the home that require professionals from various departments - windows, flooring, mirrors, cabinets, countertops, molding, AC unit, carpet, electrical, shower, etc. This means I need to take off of work again and again and again so these different workers can complete the job that should been done right the first time.
So far took off work 4 times: twice for painters (one time they just never showed up and we were told the went to the wrong address), took off again for concrete in basement and garage, again for cabinets, and again for mirror replacement. I had a cracked bathroom mirror replaced with another cracked mirror. Workers come out M-F 8 to 2ish, never weekends. I expressed the need for weekend repairs due to the amount of repairs needed and they did not budge, unwilling to accommodate us. This purchase has been nothing but a headache.
To top it all off I have gotten 3 nails in my tire since moving in. Averaging one a month. The workers are inconsiderate of the work debris and their lunches/snacks. There is constantly garbage in my yard, work materials and nails on the roads and sidewalks. Premium price tag, poor quality. Based on my experience I would not recommend DR Horton to anyone. I feel they do not care about the home owner or quality of home they produce.

The reason I gave the 2 stars that I did was based off of the experience with both my real estate agent and the broker for the company that helped us select our home and they both deserve 5 stars. But as far as the product of DR HORTON, if I had to choose again, I'd tell anyone to bypass this product and company altogether! First off, we hadn't been in the home for 2 months before we had to have the island replaced 4 TIMES, my husband almost got ELECTROCUTED plugging in our dryer, (he has the scar to prove it, and we should've gotten an attorney then), the hot water and cold water were reversed in the main shower and it took forever for them to come and fix the problem.
We had SO many issues within the first few days of moving in and the supervisor over the site, was very nonchalant and didn't care. He had a very "it'll fix itself mentality to me" like a bad landlord and this is homeownership. Our garage door came off track and we couldn't use it for 2 weeks, the frame of the garage was loose as well and had to have screws put into it. Then finally when we submitted warranty claims, come to find out they weren't submitted and the manager had to come out and fix everything because the old guy "was no longer with the company"! He was clearly aggravated when he came to the property to fix these things and it was frustrating because these weren't any problems that we would've caused.
Long story short, I'd say that the reason we chose this company was the lot sizes and the location and the taxes. But other than that, we should've gone with our first option of going with Breland Homes (now Lennar Homes) but we were on a waiting list far longer than we wanted to be to move into a home. There had been red flags with the supervisor not providing the updates as promised and we should've bowed out then. But hindsight is 20/20 and if this helps someone make a better decision in buying a home then it worked.
Also met a few families from the neighborhood who has had similar issues or worse with this company. I later found out that they've been sued and have pending lawsuits with families in other states. And if it's anything like how they run the business here, I understand. We do plan on selling a lot sooner than we had originally planned and getting what we truly want in a builder in the future. Do your research on everything especially with a big purchase like a home. Hope this helps someone. I plan to tell everyone this across any platform that people can see.

D.R. Horton built a low quality home and sold us. Ceiling leaks for every rain. Steven **, Division Compliance Manager always tries to find reasons to deny warranty. Spilled water in upstair's toilet. Room is leaking directly into downstairs laundry room. Instead of fixing the grout or sealing the tiles properly, Steven ** is saying that I shouldn't spill water in the toilet room. He said 'since there is no drainage in toilet, it is designed to leak from ceiling'. He was very rude and denied to send this denial explanation in written form. I lost money but I am losing my mental health as well. I won't be buying a D.R. Horton home again.

Worst experience I've ever had with a home builder. I can't believe "America's Builder" and such a large corporation can get away with such ** service, management and execution. I've seen better project management from my 5 year old than witnessed in this "builders" 200 plus home community. Gross incompetence and negligence of this degree should be criminal, especially when preying upon entry level homebuyers. Run, don't walk, as fast as you ** can away from anything remotely related to D.R. Horton.

I am active duty in the Navy, here living and working in Fl. Used my VA loan to buy my first ever home. And I have been living a nightmare. I have been in this house around 5 months and I have people coming over weekly fixing items I put tickets with the warranty. It is driving me insane how many problems "This new construction" has. Right now, I have put a ticket for my A/C not working properly 3 times. First time they came to fix it, the tech said there was nothing wrong, ramped the A/C to high and called it a day, still A/C not working leaving rooms completely cut off from the A/C.
I placed my second ticket and this time assured I was home while the inspector came. (Before it was my wife) And he also claimed it was perfectly fine, I made him go into the attic and he found tears on the ducts and them not been aligned causing air to not make it to certain rooms. That fixed half the issue. A couple days later, My master doesn't even cool anymore. I set yet another ticket. And the tech comes in, and immediately says, "The house is cold, the A/C is working" Immediately I call my wife and argue with him on the phone making him do his job. To make the long story short, he finds a problem with the thermostat. He removes it while it was saying 68F. Uses a tool and reads the house at 85F. He replaces the thermostat and calls it a day. It worked for one day.
Now here I am 3am and my house is 80° again while my thermostat says 68. I am so tired of this poor work. Also, my lights flicker, they put lights and outlets under one breaker and they have the audacity to make that breaker a 15. This company is cheap, they build poorly and don't fix any issues. In actuality each time they come to fix something they make it worst. I am so disappointed in buying this house. What was supposed to be a happy first year of marriage has become pure frustrations with this house. Me and my wife have literally cried as we find issues. One night even our kitchen flooded. THIS IS A NEW HOUSE!!! And still feels like kids built it. If this continues I will be taking legal action.

Absolutely would give this company 0 stars if I could. We could not have had a worse experience. Very early on our closing date was actually moved up from September to July, so we only signed a short-term lease at an apartment, so we had no choice but to move in at our July "closing" date. One week before closing, appliances were not installed, paint was not finished, the primary shower wasn't complete, the siding was damaged outside, the garage and front door were incomplete, and part of the sod was dead. We were told all of these issues would be fixed before closing. The day before closing, not a single item was addressed. Two days after closing, we finally had a working stove. Three days after closing, we finally had hot water. Two weeks after closing, we finally had a working dishwasher. However, a week and a half later it is still installed crooked and is leaking water when ran.
We were once again promised that everything would be fixed before August 1, but nearly a month after closing, we are still waiting for our primary shower to be fixed/finished. Our garage door doesn't close properly, the concrete patio is slanted toward the house, so water pools at the foundation when it rains, we are still waiting for paint touch-ups, also waiting on cabinet shelving replacement that was chipped. We are paying an exorbitant HOA fee, but still don't have access to our community amenities such as the pool.
At one point the ground wire carrying electrical to the house was nearly cut through, but we were told it wasn't an issue because it wasn't completely severed. They claim this has been replaced now. We were told the dead sod was not an issue and it had been watered at least twice a day. We have mostly brought this back to life ourselves but are fully confident it was never actually watered by the company before closing. In several parts of the house, the trim/walls are crooked.
Our realtor told us this was the best, most reliable builder. Being new to the state, we blindly trusted what she told us. Big mistake - definitely do your own research. Doing research after the fact, this issue is definitely not isolated to our house or neighborhood. Our realtor was not employed by DR Horton, but I am starting to think they have a contract or something.
Hi Megan. We are sorry to hear about the concerns you experienced. We have forwarded this to our management team in Indiana for their review.
All developments are hired out to lowest bidding subcontractors with zero craftmanship or attention to detail. Cheapest materials possible are used and D.R. does not care to make things right once you're in the home. We bought this home in March 2020. Where do I begin?
-Kitchen cabinets are made of fake wood and are not even constructed correctly. Doors screwed in the wrong place and gaps all over.
-Vinyl flooring is installed without proper sealing. If we have a spill and do not wipe it up immediately the flooring will bubble. Even worse, we had a coffee spill because the pot was not in place and it all ran off the counter, under the dishwasher. The area under and around the dishwasher was not sealed off properly so the coffee ran through the floor down to an unfinished bedroom down the concrete wall and pooled on the concrete floor. The floor under the dishwasher is rotten and needs to be torn out.
-Caulk is the lowest quality and is already peeling off of every surface it was used on, if it is not gone already. Every area with caulk was done very sloppily without any care.
-Unfinished bedroom has caulk instead of silicone sealant around the window frame. The caulk is still wet 2 years later and is serving no purpose except making a mess. Spray foam insulation was also used and sloppily applied leaving chunks sticking out all over.
-Countless gaps in the trim all over the house. No care in making it line up or look nice whatsoever.
-Vent openings look like they were cut by a child using a saw for the first time.
-Builder grade carpet. Carpet is already completely worn in common areas. Will not last longer than 5 years.
-Builder grade paint. Any fingerprint, smudge, splash, etc. will require you to paint over the area. You cannot wash the walls.
-Drywall in the ceilings is installed incorrectly. It does not run with the studs so inevitably cracks with show in finished ceilings where the sheetrock is not being supported by studs.
-Unfinished bedroom floor is 1" lower than the rest of the room in 1 corner.
-Framing for unfinished bedroom was done incorrectly resulting in a complete rebuild of the room to make the walls true and ceiling level.
-5th bedroom should have only required 1 wall to be framed prior to finishing. Our contractor had to frame 3 walls to fix subpar work by D.R. and this additional work is $5k out of our pocket.
-Windows are the cheapest possible. Leak air and show condensation.
-Unfinished bedroom/bathroom/utility room ceiling drywall is cut and pieced together with gaps, chunks missing, pieces drooping. This will all need to be replaced on our dime.
-Lumber used to frame unfinished areas has chunks missing, splintering, and partial pieces that should have been thrown away. A couple of 2x4s also have several exposed nails pounded through them.
-Some short walls (i.e. a pantry wall) are built at an angle and this is visible to the naked eye.
I reference the unfinished areas because those are the areas we can physically see. I assume the rest of the house is built the same way but is covered by finished walls. Now that we are finishing this area and I have another contractor peeling all of these issues apart we are, of course, well past our 1-year warranty for most of this and D.R. has no integrity to even look at it or work with me. We are stuck in a place where we spent a lot of money on what is supposed to be a perfect new home and will be spending several 10s of thousands more dollars to correct their shoddy work. I cannot sell this home and move fast enough.
I bought a brand new home in 2019 from D.R.Horton. The house was full of mold in 2020. My baby got sick and I sold the house and lost $100,000 and up to today, I am homeless. I lost so much. I can’t sue them because I don’t have enough money and they have put an arbitration in their contract. I don’t know where to go! They ruined my life!
Hello Bita. Your concern is being reviewed by senior management in Houston.
Sales team was able to help me. It was resolved with satisfaction.
DR Horton Vista Verde in Highland CA- Be cautious signing any agreement with DR Horton! You are entering into a nightmare. The salesperson changed face dramatically after you signed the contract. Monica the lady in the office was very mean and disrespectful to customers. Houses are built too close to tall and steep hillside with the danger of rockfalls, mudslides, and off-road recreational driving over your house. All liabilities are on you as they already disclosed in their agreement! Stay away for your money and safety!!
D.R. Horton built our home and I cannot begin to explain my dissatisfaction with the way in which my family and I received this home. I have never seen such SLOPPY interior work in my life, especially on a brand new $416,000 home. On top of that, the the level of unprofessionalism that we encountered on closing day by the manager in charge of construction was mind-blowing as he seemed offended by us pointing out all of the things that were obviously wrong. When we walked into the home on closing day, there were paint tracks all over the house, loose outlet covers ALL over the house, poor paint work ALL throughout the house, ALL kinds of stains EVERYWHERE, and to top things off, the house was visibly dirty in spots.
We had previously pointed out A LOT of these things during a previous walk through and obviously, they didn't get fixed. There was visible dirt in the master shower; a brown ring around the toilet in the master bathroom, and there are several permanent stains in the only tub in the house. When questioned about the cleanliness of the house, we were told that the contract only states that they have to broom sweep. You mean to tell me that it's that big of hassle to have a brand new home cleaned and ready to move in? Additionally, there was and still is ALL kinds of dirt spots on the wall, chips and chunks taken out of the paint EVERYWHERE and let's not even talk about the poor paint job throughout the home. AND THEY PUT THE CHEAPEST OF PRODUCTS ALL THROUGHOUT THE HOME!
When we questioned the paint job, we were told, "well we assume that you're going to change the paint color" and was made to feel as though the poor paint job wasn't a big deal. We've been in the house for 12 days and are still finding things WRONG! As I went to clean under the downstairs sink, I discovered a huge crack that even Ray Charles can see. As I went to clean the tub in one of the bathrooms, I discovered several yellow permanent spots that don't come out. We have paint all over the wood floors and even on some of the carpet. I had to come into this house and full blown clean as it felt nasty and as though it was still a construction sight.
When we requested that the MANY outlet covers be tightened, the construction manager's response was "you know humans did build the house." I was blown away by the lack of professionalism and willingness to take responsibility for the poor work and the lack of motivation to FIX it. Not only was I blown away but so was my husband and realtor. After we left, we all agreed that we didn't like the way that that exchange went. Purchasing this home has been a HUGE regret. In one of the walk-throughs, that's we when discovered that there was NO electronic garage and that there would only be grass seeds planted in the tiny backyard. There is not one ceiling fan in the home NOR a mantle/fireplace.
It's like, let's just throw something together and do the bare minimum (SMH). This has been the most disappointing purchase. We have purchased a new home before (a lot less cheaper than this DR Horton one) and the quality far exceeded this one; we received the home clean, the interior and exterior work was done with great quality, there was nothing to come in and fix/clean/add, we got more bang for our buck and the exchange was done in good taste UNLIKE this DR HORTON home.
I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone; they are unorganized and do low value/sloppy work. We were so excited to move into the home, after a long waiting period of hopping from hotel to hotel, but that excitement has quickly dwindled! Will never purchase from D.R. Horton again. If you are looking to buy with them, do your homework before doing so! We did have good communication with our sales rep and there were a couple of guys who came along on the final walk through that were nice but the way in which this home was given to us was simply unacceptable. D.R. Horton, do better!

So, I am a Navy Veteran and used my VA Home Loan to purchase my very first home with "America's Best Builder." This company is a complete scam. So I purchased my home BRAND NEW. The first issue is that the vent cover mysteriously fell off of my home and animals began making a home inside my house. You could hear the birds, mice and whatever else making noises throughout the day and night. Then, the awning fell off of the front of my house, and now the shower has completely separated itself from the rest of my home. The floor outside of my shower is actually sinking. I looked this up and saw that they actually have a culture of poor shower installation. Mind you, it hasn't even been two years. The floors are made with plywood (which is ok) but they have shifted and now pop and crack and make all sorts of noises.
The worst part is that they use the CHEAPEST materials ever (shoutout to Whirlpool's cheap contract with DR Horton). The ice maker has (within a year) stopped working and the dishwasher that I hardly use leaves a black residue. In the beginning, when you're in the process of purchasing the home, everyone is your friend, then you start to have these issues and you can't get in touch with ANYONE. I can hear my neighbors leaving in and out their home because the entire structure is so cheap that it moves when the neighbors shut their door, close their shower door and flush the toilet. I am so mad I bought this house and wasted my VA Loan. The only positive thing that I have to say about DR Horton is the grass maintenance staff.
