What is Stannah Stairlifts?

Stannah Stairlifts is a company offering stair lifts in 47 states and Washington, D.C. It sells straight and curved stair lifts for indoor use.

Stannah has over 150 years of experience with making people’s lives easier and giving them back their independence. Its team has won nine industry awards for its safety and health practices.

How does Stannah Stairlifts work?

With Stannah, you have the option to purchase, rent or rent to own a curved or straight stair lift, depending on your needs. For the most part, the right one for you depends on the shape of your staircase and the weight limit required.

Stannah’s purchase process starts with you getting a quote either online, over the phone or through an in-person consultation. If you decide to buy, Stannah will later install your stair lift for you.

You have the option to purchase directly from Stannah or from one of its authorized dealers. Dealers set their own prices and package options. In some cases, you may come out ahead through a dealer, while buying direct is a better option at other times.

Stannah stair lift models

Stannah offers the following models at the time of publishing:

  • The Starla: The Starla is Stannah’s most customizable model — it comes in a range of upholsteries and light or dark wood trim. It also features a call button, which allows you to press a button and have the chair come to you, and safety sensors to keep the chair from running over obstructions or taking off before you’re fully seated.
  • The Siena: Stannah designed the Siena with space in mind. This compact model works well in narrow staircases, and its curved seat back helps keep riders comfortable. The armrests are slightly longer than ones in other models for added support, and the seat is also slightly wider. A retractable seat belt fits into the arms of the chair.
  • The Sadler: The Sadler model is designed for people with limited flexibility. It’s a stand-up chair meant to be leaned against, so there isn’t as much weight on your back, hips and knees. The seat is height-adjustable for comfort and non-slip for extra safety. It also produces gentle support beneath the cushion when you sit down and straightens your back by tilting up slightly when you stand up.

Stannah Stairlifts cost

Stannah doesn’t publish its prices online, so you’ll have to get a quote from the company for exact pricing. You can get a quote by having a Stannah representative come out to your home, calling the company or answering some questions on Stannah’s website. These quotes include the cost of installation.

Stannah does publish some general pricing info you can use as a guideline, though. According to Stannah, you can expect a straight staircase stair lift to cost anywhere from $3,400 to $5,500, with most purchases in the $3,500 to $5,000 range. Curved staircase stair lifts cost between $8,500 and $14,000.

These prices may be intimidating, but financing options are available. If you only need a stair lift for a limited time, consider a rental.

I have balance issues and my two children, although quite a bit younger than me, also needed a stairlift. I use my downstairs, and it opens up the whole house to me. I use the basement, and my laundry and TV are down there. My stairs are a little steep, and my feet are very big. I got a Stannah stairlift and I have been very pleased. I would recommend Stannah. I called them due to ConsumerAffairs' recommendation and reviews, both good and bad. Stannah was prompt and their representative was great. He explained what their product is and how long they've been in business. He was clear and answered all my questions. He didn't put pressure on me.

Stannah then sent very well-qualified installer. He said he would be there between 8:30 and 10:00. He called at 8:30 and said he would be there at 9:00. He was there at 9:00. There was no fooling around. He got to work right away and worked nonstop. He spent a lot of time to make sure I understood everything that I needed to. Being 82, I needed time. I told him, “I want to know if you're going to finish soon because I want my brother to come down and listen.” He said, “Have him come down now.” He finished up then he spent a lot of time explaining the system to us. He was very informative and pleasant about it. He explained what would be involved in terms of money and what to do should I need follow up. He left a card to put on my refrigerator. Everything is working very well. The stairlift is quiet. It works at ease for me. It seems to be designed for absolute simplicity. It's very sturdy as well.

      Reviewed April 2, 2026

My wife fell and broke her hip and femur. We have two sets of seven stairs to get into the house from the garage, and she was worried that she couldn't get up and down the stairs. We had to put in a stairlift, and glad we put it in. I went online and googled “stairlifts,” and Stannah was one of the first ones that came up. Five minutes went by, a guy called, and he was actually in Florida. He said he was from Stannah and that there was no pressure whatsoever. He said, “But we can have somebody come out there and give you a quote, and there's no charge. And if you don't want it, don't take it.” He told me not to be afraid to call other people. But he said Stannah is worldwide, and he had a good spiel, so I told him, “Yes, send her out. That could hurt nothing.”

A nice lady came out and told me how much it was gonna cost and how long it would take. I got seven steps up to a landing to go out the front door and then seven stairs up. It's a split-level, so we had two different chairs installed. It was just under $12,000 for the two stairlifts. She said, “Anytime you want to cancel, if you find somebody you want that's cheaper, or you think is better, call them, we'll cancel it.” It did take a couple of weeks. They were pretty busy. The guy who installed the stairlift could have been nicer if he had tried. We bought him lunch in the local corner sandwich shop, and he was very, very nice. He had everything he needed, and he was all matter-of-fact, and he just did his job. He was very professional. When he was done, he explained everything to us before we got on it.

We had to call back Stannah because my wife had a drop foot, so the nerve hasn't grown back to make her foot go up. When she was spinning in a chair to get on and off, her foot was kind of dragging. We called them on a Friday to come and raise the seat up higher, so her foot wouldn’t drag, and they were there on Tuesday. A gentleman was here. He was another great guy. He said the company was great. He was here for about an hour, and he raised both seats. So my wife is very happy.

Everybody that I talked to said what a great company Stannah is to work for. There's no turnover. The installer said he's been with them for 12 years. He said, “The first week I was here, I got insurance the first day. I started off with two weeks’ vacation, which I could have took the first two weeks off.” Stannah was absolutely fantastic all the way around. I'd have them back here in a heartbeat. It was a great company to work with. They weren't hiding anything. They gave you a price up front. I'd recommend them to anybody, my family, my friends, or whoever needed a stairlift.

I had a meeting with someone from another company but the price was astronomical. It was $21,000. We live in a raised ranch which is a split level so I can't have one. I have to purchase two. One of our aides looked up Stannah Stairlift online then I called them. I told them time is of the essence as we were carrying my husband down in his wheelchair, and that was so unsafe. They asked if they could come that day at 3:00. I was so happy and said yes.

A gentleman came out. His name was John, and he was a very nice guy. I purchased the stairlift that day that he was here. He quoted us around $9,000 and if I did it that day, it was additional 500 off. I got a refurbished set and my big thing was if there was a warranty on it. He said there was a five-year warranty. I paid the down payment then they came and installed it. I wrote the rest of the check and I saved over 10,000 from not going with the first person. It was two young guys who did the installation and they did a beautiful job with the electrical cord.

We've been super happy with our Stannah stairlift. It's a blessing for us. It's very simple and we know what to do. I use the seat belt every time. It's made my life so much easier. On my husband's good days, he can walk with the walker a little bit, but it was perfect timing when we got the stairlift because now at least he can change rooms. We'll stay in the bedroom a little, then the living room upstairs, then the downstairs. He gets to move around.

I chose Stannah because it was a family-owned company. I chose them because of the years they had been in business. Also, I was quite impressed that they started off with hoist. If they knew about hoist, they certainly know about lifting a 200-plus pound woman up the stairs. So, those were my reasons for choosing them. The sales visit was seamless. Jonathan was my sales rep. I complimented him personally because he was not a high-pressure salesperson. He was very lowkey. I had done due diligence before he came to the house. The only thing that was going to make or break the sale for me was going to be the terms of the warranty, and I wanted specifically to know about the refurb and also about the new. The price differential was negligible.

The reason why I went with the new was, again, because of the warranty. It was stronger warranty than the refurbished warranty. I thought Jonathan was very professional and very easygoing. Stannah kind of sells itself. So, all he had to do was formally do the paperwork and not be rude. All he had to do was walk in with the paperwork because he was representing a wonderful company.

The installer, Carl, was fabulous. The gals called and gave me the heads-up the night before. Jonathan had already told me what the window of time would be that I needed to be available. The girls contacted me and I wasn't available. They left me a voicemail message, and I called back to let them know that I got it, just so they could let the installer know that I was on board. Carl called from the road. He was in traffic, and said he would be about 10 minutes away. He was as sweet as pie and explained the mechanics of the chair for me and left no mess behind. It was as if he wasn't here.

I've been using the stairlift ever since he installed it. I have had no trouble with it. My only complaint, and I told this to Carl, was I wish there was a way to torque it up and make it go faster. He said he's heard it before as well. I have some serious arthritis. This thing doesn't jolt. It's very smooth. It's seamless but it could go faster. Days pass before you get downstairs. It's too damn slow. Without hesitation, I would recommend Stannah.

Stannah Stairlifts is a good company. They have an excellent price. I was really thinking it was going to be a lot more because I had quotes that they were saying, $10,000. So, 4,000 something was a good price for me. As far as the stairlift, I sit on it and I go up. My bedroom is on the second floor, and I'm confined into the dining room where my bed is, and I wanted very much so to go to my room so the dining room can be at a dining room again and we can sit and eat our dinner, instead of sitting on a recliner, eating. I'm confined to a recliner because I had a stroke in 2023.

One day out of the blue, Ryan said that they had a refurbished stairlift for me that they can put in. I told him a lot of people that I had gotten quotes from said that stairs would not fit. He said, “What I see here, you we have no problem to put it in.” When he said that, I said, “Okay. Let me take it then, so I can go upstairs.” I got a straight stairlift. It goes upstairs to the to the top step.

They got the stairlift in, but I couldn't sit on the chair. The chair was too small. I’m a big person and maybe if the chair was 28 inches wide, I'd be able to fit into it and be able to do it. I couldn't even fit in at all, and my feet didn't want to stay on the foot rest. As I put one on, the other one would fall off place. My experience was great until I went up and I couldn't fit. If I could have sit in the chair, I'd be using it right now up and down and I would be loving it. I want to go to my room and sleep on my big bed instead of a little twin bed.

I don't have problems with the make. The sales person was excellent. The installer was excellent, too. The one that took it out was also excellent. So, I can't give anything bad. The only thing is I did not fit the seat. Their customer service reps were very good in knowledge. They were very helpful. I was told it would take maybe a week or two before they can even come out to install. They were out that following Thursday when I called on a Monday. Then at some time, it took maybe 10 minutes to take it out.

I have COPD, and I was having trouble going up the stairs. I purchased a stairlift from Stannah, and a very kind man came and did the work, and he seemed to be very professional. The quality is good, but I feel that it's very expensive for what I have. But when I had a couple of questions on the installation at first, because I didn't understand, they were very good and helpful on the phone with me. The salesman was very nice, but he was clearly a salesman. He had the sales pitch, “If you get it today, we'll give it to you for this price,” that kind of thing, which I didn’t like too much. But they were very professional, and I'm satisfied with the product.

My friend, Father Gino, had a Stannah. I had a stair lift, but it was very inexpensive and it didn't hold up too well. I've seen the quality of Father Gino's stairlift. So, I went with Stannah. The presentation was nice. The gentleman that was here was very good. He did a good presentation. He was funny, too. He was entertaining, and I guess that goes part with the job.

The gentleman that put the stairlift in was wonderful. He was neat and clean. I was surprised that with all that work, there was only one person doing that. I got the straight up and down stairlift. I didn't call, but I noticed that the seat part of it seems like it has some ripples in it. I only used it one time, so it's not me using it. So, I was gonna call them, and I said, “Well, let me let it go because I really don't have the time to be making appointments and all.” As far as what I had to pay, I would have liked a better price but I really needed it because I was in need of the stairlift at the time.

My husband could no longer manage the steps. We bought a stairlift from Stannah. My sister-in-law had purchased one for her mother, and they were very happy with it. I checked out a couple and had them come in and demonstrate them. I liked Stannah especially since my sister-in-law has had theirs for over five years and are still very pleased with it. The people from Stannah were very nice, very professional, and very helpful.

We got a straight stair lift. It's indoors to the second floor. The installation went fine, although they had to come back. What happened was I had ordered a gray seat and a gray rail, but because of the way our bottom is, it's a landing, and they had to put in an extra piece that comes down to the landing. They didn't have that in gray. They put in a different color, and then came back the following week and replaced it with the gray. The person was very good and very helpful in making sure we were very comfortable with it. He demonstrated. The salesperson that came did not demonstrate but he did show me a video. So far, we're very pleased with the stairlift. It’s a little more expensive than the other one I checked. I would still highly recommend it.

We had a stairlift that stopped working and needed a new one. Stannah was the company we had originally and went with them again. We had scheduled a date to have the outdoor stairlift installed. But they couldn't do it in cold weather or wet weather and it was rescheduled four times. My mother couldn't leave the house for over two months. It was crazy. That was unacceptable.

When they finally came, they had the wrong stairlift, so they had to schedule another date. It was frustrating. When they very first came, they looked at the stairs and told us it wouldn't be a problem. But when they removed the old track, they said they couldn't do it, that the treads on the stairs have to be replaced. If we had known that in advance, we could have had it done before they came. But eventually, it got done and the quality of the stairlift is excellent. My mother had the previous stairlift for a very long time (over 10 years) and it really got our money for us. The people were very nice as well.

I went through a bunch of companies, and Stannah was the very last one. The salesman came out and talked with me, and all the attributes that were with the company and the stairlift were seeming a lot better than the other companies and how they stood behind it (the way they service things, and in general, their business practices).

It took six weeks to have my stairlift made. It's special. It has a curve in it and they manufacture those independent of each other. It’s made specifically for the stairs in my house. It was installed yesterday. The guys were here for quite a little time. It wasn't a hurry-up-get-it-done. They took their time and I felt good about the install. The guys knew what they were doing, and it all went smooth and I got a nice presentation on what I what I need to do and how to operate it. It was very informative. My stairlift was quite expensive, but people get what they pay for and what I got was well worth the money.

I'm completely pleased with Stannah and I would suggest that people go with this company. Everything I had, from the salesman down to the installer, was all positive. We had conversations with other companies and it was questionable. They weren't sure about this. I was really pleased on how Stannah presented everything right upfront. The only thing I didn't do yet was make a service call, and if everything goes true to fit like it's been up to now, it's problem-free.

Installation went well. It was very fast and professional. I was very happy with the installation. Stannah couldn't do any better. The stairlift is wonderful and I like it very much. I'm very happy that I did it, and I'm very happy with the company. I have no complaints about it. Everything went smoothly and everybody was wonderful with me. I talked to them, and whatever I asked, it was great. Everything was perfect. I had open heart surgery and my garage is downstairs. I was having shortness of breath bringing my groceries up, so the stairlift helps me a lot. I recommended Stannah to my nephew as well. His wife has some problems with the stairs, so I advised him and he's thinking about putting one in his house too.

Eric, our installer, was just great. After the install, he took us through all the features and how to use it. It has been a great experience dealing with Stannah. From Rich, our salesperson, to the gals in the showroom (we live in Franklin), to customer service when I had questions, I would give it a A+. The fact that we could go in the showroom in Franklin and that we are dealing with a local company with great reviews, there was no doubt to choose Stannah for our stairlift. We are extremely pleased and glad that we chose Stannah.

We looked at one stairlift company, but it was much more expensive than Stannah. They also felt that because of the way their stairlift was constructed, it might not fit in our staircase. We then went with Stannah and got one of each of their curved and straight stairlifts. We're very happy with the quality. The installers were wonderful guys as well. The only thing is, and it's probably because it's a curved stairlift, I would have liked the gears or the little silver things that stick up covered for dust purposes. But the one going downstairs is covered.

My uncle lost his ability to go up the stairs some years ago, and he uses Stannah. They recommended Stannah to us and I got a stairlift for my mom as she's having trouble getting up the stairs now. The sales rep was a very nice guy and everything went according to plan. Everything he said happened and there were no surprises. Everything was a smooth process.

The guy that came to install was very neat and didn't leave any mess. He said he was going to take four to six hours but it took him just over three. He got it really close to the one wall where it's not in the way of the staircase. I am able to go down the stairs easily. I don't have to contort my body around the chair when it's parked. He also gave a demonstration when he was done, and it was good and thorough. He made sure Mom was able to do a full run on the stairlift before he left. Mom had a fall some years back and was afraid to go up the stairs after the fall. She hadn't been up to the second floor of the house in a year and a half prior to us getting the chairlift installed last week.

I have bad knees and been wanting a stairlift for years. I went with Stannah and the sales rep was great. He was not pushy at all. I had to put the installation off a couple weeks but when I finally got it done, it didn't take them long at all. My granddaughter was here when that happened and she said the installer explained it very well to her. I am very happy with my Stannah stairlift.

I had another company come in but I did not like the salesperson. I went with Stannah for a refurbished stairlift and the installation was good, except for one aspect. I found my top step with a crack in it. I don't know whether that was caused by them or it was just an old step. I notified them and they said they'd make a note of it. Other than that, the stairlift does what it has to do. I've used it three or four times. It gets me down the cellar so I can do my laundry. The price was within my budget as well.

Stannah took two stairlifts out of my old house and put a new one into my new house. The installation worked out fine. They were a big help. I got a curved stairlift and they made it possible. I had this last one for seven years and never had a problem. They only changed the battery in the chair. I'm very satisfied and I would recommend Stannah to a friend.

I'm 75 and I'm still fine walking up and down the stairs, but I have trouble with carrying things down the stairs. I fell down the stairs one time I was carrying things. I wanted a stairlift and Stannah seemed to have a little better quality than the other ones that I researched. I went with them and the stairlift has helped tremendously. I don't have to carry things down anymore. It's slow but steady. For now, we're using the stairlift like a dummy waiter. But in case we need it when we get older, we'll have it.

When the stairlift is down the stairs, the track is on the side, so there's no problem going up and down the stairs. But if the stairlift is at the top of the stairs, it's a little difficult getting around it to go down. So we keep it down the stairs and if we need to bring something down, we'll just use the automatic part to bring it up. Also, there's a light that is on on the arm of the stairlift all the time and we can't turn it off without unplugging it.

I had a Stannah stairlift put in many years ago but I had it taken out because I didn't like the look of it and didn’t need it anymore. I'm very steady on my feet, but I was having back surgery so having a stairlift would make it easier to go up and down the stairs. I went with Stannah again and got a stairlift installed from the basement to the first floor, and then from the first floor to the second floor. Tony, the sales rep, was perfect. Bradley and James, the installers, were both great. I like the feeling of safety that comes with having the stairlift. The quality is great as well. Everything has been perfect.

We're moving in my mother-in-law, and we needed some help to have her get up the steps. A guy from Stannah came in and explained everything to us properly. He gave us the pricing and the breakdown, whether it'll be worth renting and purchasing. He did a video call with my husband. The installation was done in about an hour and it was done great as well. We had an electrician in to help and let us know where to put the cord. We haven't used the stairlift yet because my mother-in-law is not here yet, but it seems to be working okay.

The stairlift goes from the basement to the first floor. It fits perfectly in my home and I like that it has a foot lift and a seatbelt. The price is too high but everything is too high nowadays. The quality is excellent and I got what I paid for. I would recommend Stannah if I knew somebody that needed a stairlift.

But Stannah had somebody talk to us about and set us up. Our Stannah stairlift is excellent and we’re very happy with it. It fits into our stairwell perfectly. It runs very smoothly and doesn't make any noise. I use it now, but it was for my husband. He's disabled and has bad back and leg. It helps us upstairs. Otherwise, it's rough without it.

I needed a stairlift because I'm paralyzed. I chose Stannah because I saw an advertisement. Everything was excellent with them. The people were great. The product is great. Customer service is awesome. I've had no problem at all. The stairlift is on the stairs, but I don't think it gets in the way of anybody. The chair can't be open to have people walk by it, but that means I can't fall when I get out of it.

My only problem is I'm on the curved stairway and into the basement. So, sometimes the connection isn't good. But if you move a little bit, it picks back up. When I hold the remote, I have to keep it at the bottom of the stairs so it's not in the way of others. When I call it up from upstairs, I'm using the remote. I have to really go deep into the stairway and turn the remote quite a bit for it to pick it up. Otherwise, it works great. I've already recommended it to two people.

I couldn't go up the stairs without losing my breath and I tried to reach out to Acorn, but Stannah called me back. We have plenty of room and the installers were very good when they came up and measured the space. They went over everything with us. When we've had the stairlift for about a month, it wouldn't go all the way to the top by about a couple of inches. It was a mechanical issue and the guy came out right away and fixed it. We had a card to call, so it was fine. I’m very happy with the stairlift. It's great and has made life better. We love it.

I called two different places, and a sales guy was sent out who measured everything. I was ready to buy but I never heard from them again. They did all that work and they never called me back, even though I left a message. Stannah’s guy came out here the next day and gave me a quote. That was on a Friday and they had somebody here on Wednesday to install it. The guy was great and was in and out of here in no time.

This is a 100-year-old house with thin, steep stairways and the straight stairlift fits just exactly, but it's fine. My wife has Parkinson's disease and going up the steps is tough. But now, she doesn't have to go up the steps anymore. I take the laundry up with the stairlift because I'm almost 70, so it's getting tough, too. The stairlift works every time and just as you’d expect. Stannah is a wonderful company to deal with. When you get a nice service like that with a guy who knows what he’s doing and talking about, it’s a wonderful thing.

I have very bad arthritic knees and climbing the stairs is very painful, and I finally decided to buy a stairlift. There was one good review from someone on the West Coast about Stannah and their quote was in the middle of two other quotes I got. One of the other companies I was considering had a manual rail but Stannah offered the automatic safety rail that goes down. The gentleman who did the sales visit was very nice and I enjoyed talking to him. And it was then that I made up my mind that I was gonna go with Stannah. I got the indoor straight stairlift and the installation went smoothly. The gentleman came, had all the supplies, took him a couple of hours to put it together, and it worked fine when he left.

I had a repairman here last week because the stairlift abruptly stopped one night and I couldn’t get it to go. He replaced a piece and it’s working now. The quality is fine but I would have liked the price to have been a little less. But I got what I needed. And Stannah couldn't come down any lower. If people are interested in Stannah, they should go ahead with it. They stand behind their product.
