I bought Rheem water heater and just after the warranty the tank started to leak. Had throw out to the garbage. Never buy again. Very unreliable product. I had to repair the entire floor due to the flood caused because of this water heater.

I purchased this product through my plumbing company. Hot water lasted around 70 days. Then started going out during shower. Called customer service through Rheem got an overnight element delivered. Called back to set appointment to install, said they had no one in our area to service product. I live in Houston, TX. 4th largest city in the U.S. Asked to speak to supervisor. Put on hold. No supervisor answered for over 15 min. Called back. Talked to Joe. Said he found a plumber. It would be 5 days to wait for service. Got a warranty claim #. Was able to get original plumber to fix the problem. Same thing happened to me as Lindsey of Saint Paul, Tony of Lockport, Ny. and Glenn of Titusville, Nj. Will never purchase a Rheem product again. Spread the word. This company is screwing their customers. Keep in mind, broke down after 70 days of install.

We installed a brand new Richmond 40 Gallon (Rheem) water heater which we purchased from Menards. It has a faulty Thermal shank. This has left me (and a renter) out of hot water for 3 days, while waiting for the part to arrive. Unfortunately no one has the part in town and there are no service technicians for the Saint Paul Minnesota area. I have called 15 plumbers off the list that was sent to me and I had difficulty finding one who will come out on short notice. I will not trust that I can have someone arrive after hours (@$259 an hour) and still be reimbursed. I will have a person tomorrow morning, but that means I will literally be boiling water for my renter's bath. I am not looking forward to the paperwork I need to fill out for my claim. And I am disappointed that I will need to wait for my check to clear as proof of payment before finishing my claim. This is just more of a time delay to an already time consuming situation.

This purchase has hurt my rental business. I will encourage others to buy another brand - especially Rental Managers and landlords who can't afford this type of hassle. I wish I could have just returned the product, but it is already filled with water and the gas and water lines are installed. I don't dare try to haul it back to the store for fear that it would be damaged on the way and then I'd have an even bigger drama on my hands. And one more frustrating bit to this is the wait time when calling in. It was near a half hour. (Though the service line is faster).

NEVER BUY A RHEEM HOT WATER HEATER. We bought a 40 gallon Rheem hot water heater from Home Depot. After 2 weeks we awoke with the house full of fumes and the carbon monoxide alarm was sounding. Here is my experience: 1. They don't actually have technical support. What they have is untrained people, without any actual experience reading a script from a manual. 2. If you have the same issue 2 or 102 times they will repeat the same painstaking process each time as though you never had the problem before. 3. If you ask to speak with a supervisor, they are basically hired to ** the customers and duck liability.

About me: I just completed building a duplex single handed. Foundation, framing, electric service, gas service etc. I have done my own HVAC and H2O heaters in my own homes and apt buildings for 40+ years. My workmanship is excellent and take pride in getting it right the first time, every time. So after only a few weeks operation, an H2O heater comes close to killing my wife and myself I call the company. After very frustrating phone calls, they send out a tech.

After 45 minutes, without checking gas pressures, or pressure switch or actually doing any diagnostics he resets the controller, starts the heater and leaves. 15 minutes later it is in lockout. More calls, nobody listening to the CO/fume issue, they decide to send a new pilot assembly. There is zero possibility of this fixing a draft problem, but it is the cheapest part they could send. So, their solution is to send a 15$ part that won't fix the issue and turn the thing back on and see if it poisons us again.

I declined that solution. They said that was all they were willing to do. Home Depot has said they will replace or give store credit which would be acceptable, but we will see if that follows through. One of the HD workers says he gets a very high return rate on the Rheem unit so my guess is HD will stop selling these in a year or two. In short, Rheem's response to a critical, even life threatening situation is completely inadequate, technical assistance is less than what any handyman could find on the web in a couple of minutes, and at 1/10 the aggravation.

Another issue (might be the same issue) is the bearings in the blower are awful noisy for a new unit. Rheem used to be a good dependable brand and I still have 3 of their older furnaces installed which I have been mostly satisfied with the exception of the cheap bearings they put in the induction blowers. I won't be buying Rheem/Rudd units again unless they have exceptional reviews.

We have decided to replace our hot water tanks before it fails. My wife figured it was about 13-14 years old. I was shopping around for a tank and it finally clicked, why don't I see what brand we have now, as 13 years is pretty darn good. The installer had the date of installation Dec 24/2001... WOW. It’s a Rheem Professional 410 professional grade. So that's what I will be looking for now. A instructor at my work in the plumbing department suggested I get a basic model (6 year warranty), but make sure I drain the tank once a year and wait until the water runs clear to get all the sediment out and prevent corrosion. Don't forget to turn off the breaker first. I'm definitely getting another Rheem. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Manufactured Sept 4, 2018; failed October 9, 2018 - I thought I bought a premium water heater with a good reputation and service. The lower heating element failed (error code A105), which they say they will send me, and then I can either hire a technician to replace it or I can empty the water heater and do it myself. This is not the warranty I expected. This water heater was just installed, and they sent a bad product. I expect Rheem to bear the entire cost of fixing it in the first year -- not to send junk and make a customer bear the cost of repairing their mistake.

Brand new gas water heater. The Pilot light would not light. Called Rheem, who had me test it and concluded it was a bad gas valve. Rheem support said they would send a plumber, who did call nor show up. I called Rheem again and said I was not happy and I might return it to store. The Rheem rep said they would not authorize the return. That sounded fishy, since the store's policy doesn't require Rheem's authorization. This company seems to be riding on its formerly good 20th-century name now, making junk and telling untruths to customers to try to keep them from returning it to the store.

After doing some research and talking with a few people in the industry, it's apparently common for these companies to charge full rates for "warranty" repairs. IE: They charge $700 to install a compressor that's worth $450. Sounds like I could buy the compressor myself and hire them for $250 to install the thing. That would actually be fair and worth it. However, this is warranty work we're talking about. The compressor should be free. That leaves a "labor" cost of $250. Let's add $100 for the 410. Hell, let's add $200: That would make, at most, $450 for labor and 410. No! I get charged $700 L.A.B.O.R. Here's the kicker, a used Lennox XP14 goes for $700. But I'm sure to get these guys to install the whole thing it would be even more $$$ for about half hour more work. Will never use Rheem again!

I bought a Rheem Water heater at Home Depot in Daphne, AL two weeks ago. From the start it leaked on the cold water supply side. Technical assistance sent two nipples and contracted a plumber to replace. Even after replacement of the two nipples, the leak was still there. Reaching out again to their customer support they indicated they had no contracting companies around Mobile, and that I had to hire a plumber myself for replacement and reinstallation. Meaning I would have to pay upfront and then invoice Rheem. They are not even interested in picking up their piece of junk back to investigate further the quality escape. Honestly, they should drop their current business for two reasons: poor product quality and very low-grade customer support. I will never buy their junk again.

This is the third Rheem water heater we have had in 2 years! First one had a leak at installation. Second one leaked while we were on vacation and flooded parts of the basement. The replacement we received today came with a crack in the plastic surrounding the water inlet. Each time Rheem admits the unit is defective but does not make any offer or attempt to pick up their substandard product. Instead I have to disconnect and haul to Home Depot myself.

Family has been without hot water for 2 weeks and when the heater finally comes it is cracked. I call Rheem. They tell me to call Home Depot. You go to Home Depot. They need confirmation from Rheem the unit can be returned. Also, when you return the unit Rheem refunds on a pro-rated basis. This means that I paid $1,300 + tax for a defective water heater and they only refund $1,100 because I have had it for 2 years of a 6 year warranty. Then to top it off, if I want to replace the defective unit I HAVE TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE. The unit now cost $1,500 so I have to come up with the $400 + tax difference between the $1,100 they offer for their defective product and the $1,500 they want to charge for a new one. I AM DONE WITH RHEEM!

My experience thus far with Rheem and the support has been dismal. We bought and installed our first solar hot water tank using a recommend Rheem System. Since install, the 15 year old tank used to fill a soaker tub but the new one will not. Apparently we were recommend the wrong one and this unit is meant for a large solar heating array, not a small 2 collector system. Nobody asked about the size of the collectors. A month to get the proper spec sheet once it would not even fill the tub half way. Over a month to be told that it is the wrong unit and it is not meant for our cold climate and a small collector system. This have been going on since January and still no real response from them. No solutions and no help to follow up from our rep or Rheem to date.

6 years ago, I purchased a RHEEM water heater from Home Depot which lasted only 3 years with only two in the household. June 18, 2015, I purchased an American Standard from a private retailer after researching the best water heater to purchase which also lasted only 3 years. It was a terrible, stressful ordeal with both companies. Rheem and American Standard each sent parts for their 6 year warranty stretching two weeks until I'm stressed to the point of purchasing a new one because none of the parts solved the problem.

Apparently this is what these companies count on... the customer getting fed up to the point we choose to buy another water heater for $800 every 3 years in exchange for a hot shower!!! I am a single parent working part time for LAUSD on summer break with $766 to my name. There goes our summer savings... again. Time to try another company. I'm convinced all are the same... they may last 3 years with if you're lucky. It's like pulling teeth to get them to honor the warranty, and you will not get a replacement without spending a ton of money for a licensed professional in the process, which is why I'm buying another brand. The water heater I had when I moved here lasted approximately 12 years with no problems. Old school. They don't make them like they used to. See you all in 3 years.

I wasn't going to complain, even though I was mad for the slow and poor response from Rheem in Warners Bay to fix our hot water service. I have had 2 neighbors prior to our hot water service breaking down, and another today who have also had their hot water unit go! The first had their's fixed the next day and the other will have their's fixed tomorrow! We contacted Rheem's 24hr service and no one answered, we tried many times, then my husband sent an email and again no response until we sent another 18hrs later! This was Sunday 1st July and Monday 2nd July! Our hot water was spewing out of the system and the last Rheem installer busted the tap on the system and it could not be turned off only at the water mains which meant we had no water whatsoever!

Rheem said it would not be fixed until Friday 6th July, it was bloody freezing, and one of the coldest weeks we have had and no hot water! Our cul-de-sac was flooded & getting a bath by the water we were losing. They did come on Thursday 5th July, to fix it! I was wondering why we had to wait so long when everyone else seem to get it fix within 24hrs! I will be finding out if they used Rheem, if it is someone else I will, I think I will be using whoever they are using! The team I met who fixed or checked things were really nice, but really Rheem far too slow!

I installed a Rheem 50 gallon electric water heater in September of 2016 and had a manufacture date of August 23, 2016, less than 2 years old. I noticed paint flaking off around the bottom and some minor rust forming around the bottom and where the paint was flaking. The water heater is in a basement room but is on a wood platform and not on a moist floor, and has a dehumidifier 5 feet away. I called Rheem customer service to explain the problem. They asked for pictures, which I sent them.

They looked at the pics, and proceeded to blame it on condensation from being in the basement, even though it’s off the floor and right next to a dehumidifier. It’s is right on par with others experiences with Rheem. They do not honor warranties and make all sorts of excuses to not have to replace anything. This unit has a 6 year tank warranty on it, and it’s less than 2 years old. I have never had a water heater rust on the outside from condensation. Rust on the tank is a sign of failure of the inner lining and will only get worse. Luckily, I bought the Home Depot extended warranty as Rheem is useless and screws its customers. Horrible company.

Very displeased with Rheem warranty experience. My water heater burned up and it was a part of a warranty claim. I called and was sent an email and opened up original case where I sent pictures of my burnt up water heater (which I still have my pictures) which this water heater was 4 years old and a part of a recall. After I sent in the pictures I had talked to a lady in regards to getting the pictures. She mentioned that it was really bad and Rheem was going to send me an email so then I can go to Home Depot and find an equivalent water heater at no charge. But when I called in the next day no one had any clue what I was talking about and sent me an email but they started a new case. Which is really odd they would give me a new case number... they must have gave me a new case number since they didn’t want help out with a recalled product.

The second case number I got the email that mentioned I am now getting a new part instead of getting a new electric water heater. I have yet to see this supposed part that was issued. There is no way anyone can go this long without a water heater... literally 1 1/2 months. I am truly disappointed with the customer service and time it is taking for this to get taken care of. I had to go out and buy a brand new water heater because I couldn’t wait that long for the part to come in and this was issued 4/28... I had to spend over $600 dollars on this new unit as well as a $250 labor charge for them to remove and replace the new unit.

It is pretty sad because when I first sent the picture I was told that because it was burnt up badly that I should be getting an email in regards to an approval to go to Home Depot and find an equivalent one at no charge. But when I called since I didn’t receive the email on the approval to go to Home Depot to get an equivalent one. I called then a new case easy wrote up and they were supposed to send a part. I am very unhappy with the customer service since pretty much nothing has been done to get this fixed fast enough done. This went out 4/23... and it is now 6/15 and I still have not gotten any response back from Rheem. No one ever get Rheem product since they are not helpful at all. This needs to get straightened out because there is no help at all because I am out a lot of money to get this taken care of when Rheem should have taken care of a majority of the expense.

I got hold of their technician, the technician explained that I had to take apart the water heater and change some parts on it that he would send me. I told him I bought a brand new water heater. I’m not changing parts and waiting for replacement parts. I’m going to drain it, drag it up the stairs, load it in my pickup and return it to Menards. Probably wasting a day in the process. I bought a newer house in 2010 with my wife to start our family. When I bought this house, I wanted it completely turn key and maintenance free for a while so I replaced all the major appliances with high efficiency appliances, for example, this Rheem Power Vent Hot Water Heater Model RH PDV50-65. This was installed by a professional contracting company, and was never adjusted or messed with in any way, other then the consistent problems. Every single winter this unit would power cycle, and I would have to be outside with a hair dryer blowing out the intake and exhaust pipes to thaw them so the unit would work. Several times every winter this would happen.

This just passed Friday however, took the cake. My wife came to me saying we didn't have any hot water, and it was 27 degrees Celsius outside... Well that's strange, so I went down to the mechanical room to investigate, and after trenching through water to get into the mechanical room, I found the hot water tank had imploded. Yes, imploded. There was no visible damage to the exterior skin on the unit, no leaks evident from the safety release valve or the blow out valve. After speaking with several plumbers it was determiners that the internal seal had cracked, making it unserviceable. I just got off the phone with Rheem warranty department, they ran the serial number and immediately say it's out of warranty, didn't even ask what the purchase date was. Conversation over. Out of warranty, goodbye!

I feel like these bloody expensive pieces of garbage should last longer than barely 8 years? - The typical coverage on their units is 6 years. Never told to us, or I wouldn't have purchased. If they don't trust their stuff to the typical industry average of 10 years, why should you? Do not ever buy a Rheem anything. Their support is garbage and their products are even worse. I sincerely hope this review helps people make the right choice, as this hot water tank clearly was not the right choice for my family. Learn through my mistake, and don't repeat it. Avoid anything even associated with Rheem.

Update to my post earlier today. The third Rheem hot water heater 50 gal, tall version was bought this evening. I installed it because we need baths and I cannot wait for Rheem. I bought this Rheem from Penco instead of Home Depot. Now I do love Home Depot and their customer services is splendid. However , I have learned that Rheem makes different models of the same types for different distributors. Looks like to me Penco's unit cost $476 instead of HD price of $418. Guess what happened? Penco's Rheem was installed and did not leak at all, no leaks, we are finally taking baths. So HD has a cheaper version and it's also less quality. Why cheaper if it leaks? Give me Penco. I love ya HD, but I had to stop smelling. Lol.

Went to Home Depot, bought one (50 gal. Tall model) for $418. Came home, installed it. I am a handyman type so I know what I am doing. Job finished, left garage back into the house bragging to the wife, "Got hot water dear." Went out to feed cat, water on floor, leaking from the top of the unit, NOT ANY LOOSE NIPPLE CONNECTIONS. Ok, next day, went to HD, exchanged it per Rheem's instructions, installed another, same darn thing. I conclude Rheem, was once a good firm, quality items. Now, do not waste your money. What a shame. Who wants to bet they are made in China now??? Don't waste your money. Rheem is telling me they will send a certified plumber with a new HWH and replace it at their expense. Wonder how that one will turn out. Lol.

March of 2018 we noticed that we had no hot water and there was some leaking in the pan below. Our installer thought it might need a Valve replacement but after further investigation he found it needed to be totally replaced. Thank goodness we had a full warranty for replacement. We are now out of pocket $551.25 for service charges. We are not happy and will never get another Rheem hot watertank again!

This is the 2 Rheem 360 gallon hot water heater model G65-360-1 that has leaked in less than 5 years. The 1st one lasted under 4 years but because Rheem only offers a 4 year warranty from date of manufacture not install we had to fork out $15,000 to have another heater installed Dec 2016. Going with the same model allowed for quick replacement which when your business is closed because of lack of hot water fast is best.

Now 14 months later our heater that cost more than a small car is leaking. Rheem comment although they have agreed to replace the heater not sure yet if they are paying the $2000 install fee was that they very seldom have what they call a leaker. When I told them to look up the serial number of the one the new leaker replaced the agent claimed we are not having much luck with their heaters, we would send it back and put in a John Wood but Rheem won't give us a refund. Be aware they have problems. Avoid a Rheem or any of their other products. A Wood heater will last years without problems, ask your plumber before you buy not the "experts" at the Home Improvement stores. They are going to sell you what they make the most margin on. I bought a gas water heater at Home Depot by Rheem about 1 1/2 year ago. It failed, Rheem labels the water heater not to take the water heater back to Home Depot but, to troubleshoot the problem thru the phone with them, after they “think” they know what the problem is, they mail you parts for you as a customer, replace them (like the customer is a plumber or a technician). It didnt work the first time, troubleshooting thru the phone again, now they thought they knew what the problem is, send another part, replace it. It worked for 2 month, and failed again. Call a third time, troubleshoot, then they authorized to take the water heater back to Home Depot for a partial credit... after everything you have to go thru, not having hot water for 2 weeks, paying a plumber for all the labor, taking the water heater back to Home Depot. It’s a very disappointing way of dealing with this kind of help from this company.

I filled out the warranty claim and sent all the required paperwork back on Jan 2nd, 2018. First they said it'll take 6 - 8 weeks to process the claim. It's now 2 1/2 month (March 16th, 2018) and my claim was still not processed.

The last time I've called, I was told that they were back-up in the warranty claim department (wow... imagine how many units have failed that could create such a "back-up"), but since it's more than 8 weeks, they'll "expedite" my claim. Guess what, expedite or not, my claim is still in limbo somewhere. Very disappointed with how Rheem handles customer claim. No wonder no contractor in my area wants to work with Rheem. People, please don't buy Rheem, not worth it when you have to be hold 45 minutes on the phone with them or call them every month to check on your warranty claim just to hear the same excuse.

I had a Rheem tankless water heater model # ECOH200DVLN. The unit was in warranty when it started leaking from the inside all over my basement. I contacted Rheem. They asked me to take some photos of the heater. I emailed the pics to them and spoke again with a Rheem Rep who told me that my water heater wasn't covered because my vent terminated under some deck stairs. I asked if he truly believed that was why it was leaking. He said that it didn't matter because it wasn't in code and they won't cover it. The stairs are for a deck and are 12' in the air.

Apparently Rheem looks for any reason to not cover the water heaters they make and sell for about a thousand dollars. I would stay away from this company. I have the pics they requested and a video of the heater leaking for anyone that might be interested. I also posted a video on YouTube of the water heater pouring water out. If spending that kind of money for a water heater I would not want to buy one from a company that doesn't stand behind its product.

Everything seemed normal but the next morning as I was checking it for leaks, I noticed water on the very top of the heater. I thought it was one of my connections but upon further inspection found it to be coming from under the cap. I tightened the two nipples that were mounted by the factory and tightened my home connections. The next day there was water again.

I called Rheem and they sent out a plumber and he installed two new nipples sent from Rheem. The next day more leaks. Rheem told me to take it back to HD and they would pay the plumber to take it. He brought a new tank and installed yesterday and this morning there was water all over the top! This is nothing but faulty manufacturing! Two tanks in a row that leak internally? Something is wrong with Rheem. I asked the Rheem rep if they had a problem with certain models and he said no.

So I called again the c/s department to check if someone would be coming Wed Feb. 14th. The man Mike was very rude. I asked if he could see if someone would be coming to repair my water heater? He asked for model # on heater which I didn't have. I was calling from work on my lunch break. Then was told maybe he could get it under my name? Ok good idea.

He found a Mr. Build repair person listed and should call me tomorrow. I ask Mike, "Will I get this issue fixed by tomorrow?" "The tech. makes the decision?" "O.k? Yet will it be fixed tomorrow?" Mike said, "I DON'T KNOW!" Either he orders parts or if 2 people are need to replace the tank he would have to get someone? I was in shock not just by the tone of this man's voice of being irritated yet that a company LIKE Rheem can't take care of the issue in a timely and professional manner. We should go without hot water for 3 days or more on a hot water tank bought through HOME DEPOT 4-5 days earlier? Still under warranty (90 days). And inconvenience us for product failure? And pay another $300.00 plus to have it installed???

Then I tried to return technician call. Left at 3:45 pm to my home? I call the technician... Not only that night after getting home from work at 7 pm leaving a message I also called the technician at 8 am Wed morning and at 9:30 am both leaving messages no real person guarantying they would return a call. Their use a plastic pipe for drain valve which cracks and leaks.

We was on the phone every other day to asked for support. Some of the techs came to their sense and request brass drain valves, many of them just insisted on sending the same plastic valve again. They never tested these drain valves. Everyone has a hairline crack which leaks out water making a mess. Every time this happens, it takes them a couple of days to send replacement. After I gave a scathing review on their website, they quit talking to me. I now pledge to make sure consumers do not buy these direct vent heaters again from Rheem. Please avoid at all costs!

For those who do not like to read long reviews, all I can say is that I cannot be more disappointed than I am with Rheem. Simply DO NOT buy a Rheem product, unless you like dealing with a product of marginal quality, and a customer support team that is beyond incompetent. Early in 2017 our 40 gal water heater needed to be replaced. We went to a local store and found a nice Rheem (or so we thought) gas water heater. Had it installed professionally, good to go. Soon after installation, every time the burner lit, there would be a loud bang of a small gas explosion. We called Rheem, and they said they "...have no technicians in the area, call a local plumber to look at it and we'll reimburse you." OK. We did as directed. The plumber came over and suggested a complete replacement of the burner assembly.

Rheem declined, and sent only a small part. It didn't fix the problem. Another call to Rheem. And another. And another, with repeated visits by the plumber. Finally, after three months of back-and-forth, Rheem sent a full burner assembly. It fixed the problem. We then read the instructions on how to get reimbursed. It was quite complicated, and required all sorts of paperwork, including a W-9 from the plumber (even though Rheem must have had records of all calls and directions). I submitted the paperwork via email. I waited. And waited. No acknowledgment of receipt of paperwork. I called Rheem. After being put on hold for 1/2 hour, I finally talked to a representative. They claim that my reimbursement had never arrived (this is email, folks, if it doesn't arrive, you get a bounce-back message). I patiently resubmitted the paperwork via email. And waited. And waited.

I called again 2 months later. By this time the fun had dragged on for 5 months. The rep said that the paperwork had been received, but that it was "under review" and a decision would be made "whether or not to refund" within 6 weeks. Six weeks passed. No check. The clock is now at 6 1/2 months in this story. At about 8 weeks, I tried calling again. The customer service option when calling Rheem was disconnected. I tried calling the contractor line, but they would not talk to me unless I had a contractor license number. I told them that the residential customer line was disconnected, and they babbled something about a technical problem. Right. Sure... I went to the plumber and asked for assistance. They called the contractor line, spoke to someone, and that person said the check would be sent immediately, and that there had been a problem with the paperwork I had sent (they had never told me this).

When the plumber asked what the problem was, the Rheem representative couldn't be specific. At this point I was getting ready to go to small claims court. Three weeks after the plumber's call, the check finally arrived. I've deposited it, and, based on historical activities, have my fingers crossed that it doesn't bounce. In the end, Rheem reimbursed us over $600 for repairs to an $800 water heater. If they had just authorized the full burner assembly requested at the first call, it would have been closer to $150. I have dealt with terrible customer service in my past, but this is a new low. And sadly, from what I understand, this is a more common occurrence than any decent company should allow. DO NOT BUY RHEEM!! By the way, the "technical issue" with the residential customer service line is still on-going, 4 weeks after I first encountered it. Pathetic.

Less than 3 years after installation water heater starting leaking from manufacturer's hole in bottom of heater (photos were provided to Rheem Warranty Division). On July 4th room was flooded and I was able to get a plumber to come that holiday, remove water heater and replace with a new one. Plumber was only able to purchase from Home Depot and bought a $480 Rheem replacement water heater. Contacted Rheem and they said, "You need to return the old heater to us." This made no sense to hire someone to pack and then ship back to Rheem in order to possibly get some type of pro-rated refund.

I had just paid another $500 with tax for another one of their substandard water heaters. I also researched online and they do not have a good reputation for warranty returns nor are they rated well in the country for product reliability. Do your research before you purchase and if you do purchase a Rheem forget any type of customer service or warranty honor.

Waited 2 days for new power supply cord which should have been replaced by service technician since it was clearly a faulty part. Power supply lasted about 10 days before it went out again. Now waiting for a service tech to replace the same power supply I did a few weeks ago. The bigger question is why is the power supply going out in the first place? Never again will I get any Richmond or Rheem product.

Later that day it shut down again after failing to heat water. Called Rheem directly and a 1 minute trouble shooting session determined I needed a new burner assembly and I would have to wait 3 days to receive it. No explanation of who would install it or pay for it. No option pay for an expedite. Rheem will not allow local plumbers to stock their replacement parts because they want to control the replacement market. Consumers suffer. The day I called so the part could be installed as soon as it arrived. That did not happen. So now, day 4 - I finally have the part but now have to wait another day before a technician can come out and fix it. It will be 5 Days with no hot water! On a brand new heater. I did my research too late, apparently this is a common problem with Rheem Heaters. I would not recommend purchasing it, especially from Home Depot. I had to spend more time and labor cost to uninstall the 1st one and then reinstall the 2nd one. After that, I have asked for a compensation.

Rheem's customer service team in April asked me to "send proof of payment for services such as a copy of your cancelled check FRONT/BACK or a credit card statement. If paid by cash, please be sure to provide the phone number for technician/company so we can confirm payment with them", which I did through both regular mail and email. But so far I have not heard from them anything. When I called Rheem's customer service #, they said they won't handle it. I have to contact their billing department. So I called Rheem and after a fight they agreed to send a new pressure valve to me that I installed. That stopped the leaking for a couple years. We investigated of course, and found that our almost brand new (purchased Nov 2016) water heater had exploded. We immediately went back to the Home Depot in Brockville where we had purchased it. The manager, who is very familiar to us due to all of our renovations, took the situation very seriously yet due to the "manufacturer's warranty", we had to contact Rheem. The HD mgr tried for us but it was after hours. Hubby contacted Rheem the next day but had to supply them with the unit's serial # which he did not have with him.

When we got home we called Rheem again, to let them know that due the unit HAVING CAUGHT ON FIRE, the serial # was illegible/charred. We emailed them photos of the unit and the receipt from our purchase. We were given a case # and have fully expected Rheem to contact us to arrange a new tank... An apology... An anything. Well as of 4 pm today, hubby had to call them back because, yes, WE WOULD LIKE HOT WATER. After getting the runaround from customer service, what it boils down to is because we cannot provide a serial #, they assume we are trying to pull a fast one on them and will not replace the unit. With absolutely no concern that our house could have burned down. Rheem, you suck.

We had a Rheem two-stage R-410A Heat Pump (4 ton) (2 speed) outdoor unit with matching 4 ton air handler (variable speed) installed in September 2014 by Home Depot's contractor ARS with county permit. We know it was professionally installed correctly. We signed up for the service program with twice yearly inspections for maintenance. Everything checked out until our March 2017 service call when it was discovered that the static pressure was too high. When the air handler panel was removed you could see that 2/3rds of the "A" coils was covered with frost, a result of internal restriction. Also, on close examination, you could see rust all around the tubes where they came out and went back (U shape).

My contractor did a replacement installation of the coil unit. The unit itself was covered by Rheem's 10 year warranty but not the labor, so I was out $997. This for a coil unit that was not 3 years old, the date of manufacture was July 2014, installed September 2014. Very poor quality. What is most interesting is that the replacement coil unit is all aluminum. The contractor/installer said all the new Rheem units similar to mine now come with the all aluminum coil units. This tells me that Rheem knew it had junk and switched out to the all aluminum, which will not have a rust issue and hopefully not an internal issue with restrictions.

The adjustment dial and power switch located at the bottom of the gas water heater has no way to prevent a toddler or incidental contact from adjusting the dial. This is a huge red flag for me where it can easily be turned to the max temperature and can lead to burns. I called Rheem to see if they have a cover or anything that can limit access to the controls and was told that this is not a safety concern or a manufacturer defect and there is nothing that they will do to resolve the concern. I assume it is my 18 month old daughter that is playing with the dial, turning it to the maximum temperature setting, but it could as easily be changed by something inadvertently rubbing on the dial. My home was built in the 70's and the water heater is located in the laundry room, not in a dedicated closet, so it does have more open access than newer homes with dedicated utility closets. Regardless, this is currently a significant safety concern for me and my wife.

Had Rheem plumbing contractor come out who told me unit was flooded because the housing unit was not secured right allowing water into the housing unit which collected in the water heater... My warranty that expired on 2028 was now null and void one year into ownership. I strong urge everyone to not buy Rheem. The fine print is where they get you where it hurts. Last night upon returning from dinner we walked into our home full of an electrical burning smell. Through elimination the results were that our water heater had blown out its wiring on the front electrical panel, as we could see black smoke all around it and coming from the unit. The breaker had fortunately already tripped from the over load, but we turned it off and cut off the water supply as a precaution.

We immediately contacted one of our electricians that is used for our company. He arrived today (following day). Already had to replace the thermocouple 2 years ago. Second failure now only lets it give hot water for 1-2 minutes and it's out. Since this was not my first bad experience with a Rheem heater customer support, I just went straight to a plumber. They told me the tank needs to be replaced. OK, next day I call support, they want me to check a couple things and get back to them, fair enough. They want me to run a water temperature test AGAIN for a third time, even though I'm already well aware the water gets hot... it just runs out in about 2 minutes. They want to send me another gas control valve, even though I just installed a new one they sent me that day. Which I wouldn't get until Tuesday since it's a Saturday. Refuse to allow me to trade it in for a new one, and the supervisor tells me it's clearly a plumbing issue since the gas control valve was replaced and I checked the dip tube and it's not cracked or broken. He tells me just like a water heater, parts can fail in plumbing.

My copper pipes can fail somehow causing hot water to run out quick? With zero plumbing changes? Yeah, OK, they clearly are just coming up with any excuse possible to not give me a working water heater. At this point I need hot water, so I give up and go buy a Whirlpool. Hey, I have all the hot water I want now, turns out my copper pipes didn't break in a fashion that sucks the hot water up. I have a Rheem hot water heater, 50 gallon, that is still under warranty. On Friday 061716 I woke up to no hot water. After checking the tank we find out the pilot is out, so we re-lit the pilot only to wake up on 6/18/16 with no hot water again. We called technical support at Rheem and we were walked through a few diagnostic steps. The tech tells us it is the thermocoupler and that he can have one shipped out. We received the part on Tuesday, now 5 days without hot water, and we had it installed on Thursday. One hour after the pilot was re-lit it went out again and we were not able to re-lit. On Friday morning we call Rheem again and speak to a supervisor named Shakira. Before calling we had checked online and see that this issue we are having is happening to a lot of Rheem hot water tank owners out there.

Shakira was no help what so ever, all she could do was refer us to repair companies in the area that we will have to pay. She also tells us that the tech rep that we spoke to on Saturday really was not qualified to make a diagnosis of what was wrong with our tank. I was lucky enough to get a company to come out Friday afternoon at the cost of $297... The tech tells me that the problem is the gas valve which is very common in Rheem tanks. He even showed me that the valve he was replacing the bad one with had been re-engineered because the original valves were faulty. It seems Rheem has a pattern of sending out the thermocoupler part, even though they are very well aware that the problem is their Gas Valve. It seems to me that Rheem is WELL aware that there is a problem with their hot water heaters but refuse to stand by their product.

What has happened to customer service and making things right for the customer? I have also contacted a local tv station's consumer department to see if they can look into this. If more of us would call Rheem out publicly and go after them then perhaps we could all be reimbursed for our repair costs as well as help the next person out that goes through this. I was without hot water for 8 days and I have read that others have gone even longer. I would never buy anything from Rheem, as they have horrible customer service and they could care less about their customers.

Called customer service, very pissed and they told my husband they would disconnect the call if he didn't settle down, didn't even ask if he was OK.. Finally got sent to claims. After 10 days of having this thing we are getting q code to exchange... Not Happy!!!

We purchased 56 Rheem water heaters for our senior housing community in Eudora Kansas. 12 of the tanks have had failures within the first 4 years of service. None of the plumbing contractors want to work on the Rheem water heaters because they were purchased from Home Depot and are told that parts are not easily available. We are slowly switching out the tanks to another brand that was recommended by our plumbing contractor. We will no longer be purchasing any Rheem water heaters.

We purchased a Rheem Water Heater (Serial Number M451401623) on August 24, 2015. Ten days later we did not have any hot water. My husband called Rheem and walked him through steps to try and figure out why we did not have any hot water. They told him a control valve went out and they would ship it overnight and we would get it by Wednesday. This was on Monday. A certified, licensed, and bonded repair shop had to do this and they would only pay $125.00 for the repair which we have to pay for and they will reimburse us. We were suppose to receive the part last Wednesday and did not receive it so my husband called again and they were closed. So he called first thing Thursday morning and they said the order never got placed but he called before the cutoff time - it would go out that day. My husband called again Friday this morning and they told him the order was not placed - it would go out today.

Which means if it does we will not get it until Monday. Not having hot water for 9 days if we receive it then. All we keep getting is lies every time we call. It was purchased at Home Depot and they originally told my husband he could just return it and get a new one but that is pretty expensive after paying to get it installed. We will never purchase another Rheem product!!!
