Hi there, I am a home builder by the name of Ivaan Interiors in Winnipeg, Canada and I bought a 60-gallon HWT from Home Depot last month Dec 2021 for my new house to sell. The hot water tank was installed on-site by a licensed plumber and electrician. The electrician found that it's not heating and consuming double Amperes as compared to it and tripping the circuit breaker. The electrician double-checked all the wiring but it didn't work and mentioned that there is some problem inside. We called customer service and they said, "We can send parts," and we have to get it repaired at our end. THIS IS RIDICULOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE. How can we repair and why should we spend another hundred bucks to get it repaired. We didn't buy this brand new product to take the pain to repair. The buyer is taking possession next month. I want it to be repaired or replaced asap. I would appreciate if this matter is taken seriously and solved immediately.

Anyone viewing this before purchase please reconsider. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I am just an average Joe that is trying to help save you from these people. The product is not inexpensive, it is cheap. My water heater did not last 3hrs before flooding my basement. Rheem has put me on hold for over 3hrs so far, hung up on more times than I can count. Rheem and Richmond are of the same company. They make the worst water heaters on the planet. Junk. I have been through 4 water heaters in 3 years. I kept buying Rheem and Richmond because they fit perfectly and they were the cheapest. All I could afford at the time but I would pay again next year when I had to buy another one. Finally three years 4 water heaters later I bought an American made one!

Do not by Rheem or Richmond. If you do I promise in less than a year you will be installing a new one and their warranty is a joke. 3-year warranty. None of mine lasted three years and I couldn't get anything replaced, fixed, refunded. Horrible customer service. Buy any other brand than this. Save yourself the hassle. Spend a little bit more money and get a good brand. I'm so sick of replacing hot water heaters. I hate that company. They know it's going to break in a year and you'll have to buy another one. I was foolish enough to keep doing that. Never again. I will not buy anything Rheem or Richmond for the as long as I live.

So every time I have to reignite my water heater I add something to this comment. This is the 2nd water heater in 4 years, they replace the first one because it was fully covered. The new 2nd one lasted about a year and a half and started to have problems. I have received 1 head and sensor replacement due to 9 blinks. Paid to have some one professionally repair it. Now I am still out of hot water in December. Customer service is great but you have to wait on the line for 45 minutes. Just proves how much issues they are having with their products. They are sending another head replacement and sensory in case the first one they sent was a dud. Going to waste more money to have it install. Find another brand of water heater, Rheem seems to be living on their past quality and makes crap now.

Purchase gas water heater August 2020. May 2021 gas valve became faulty. They shipped one out (2-4 days) and finally had someone schedule to come out after 7 days with no hot water. They proceeded to tell me that the gas valves for this unit manufactured between April and October 2020 are faulty and are having all kinds of issues. I was assured that the one they replaced in May 2021 that the issue was fixed and I would not have this problem. Now it is December 2021 and the gas valve has broke again. Only now I no longer have a labor warranty and I have to pay out-of-pocket for that. They do not stand behind the product. Customer service is extremely rude and unhelpful and they do not care whether you’re out of hot water or not. All they do is make excuses. I will never purchased one of these again.

I purchased my Rheem 50 gallon electric water heater at Home Depot, new in the box. When I opened the box, I discovered that one of the two pipes coming out of the top of the heater was damaged. These pipes are actually called heat traps. The end of the inlet side was deformed. I called customer service and they arranged to have the replacement part shipped directly to my house which I received about 4 days later. They weren't able to supply a technician to install the part so they allowed me to hire a local plumber up to $150. The local plumber was able to install the part for $135 without any problems and I was able to complete the installation. I had to pay the plumber out of my pocket and wait for a reimbursement check from Rheem.

The reimbursement check took just over two months to arrive but I will say that the company did stand behind their warranty. It's unfortunate that the heater ever left the manufacturer's Factory in that condition. It makes me question Quality Control when something like this happens inside of an undamaged unopened box.

Since the heater had never been filled with water I suppose I could have tried to return it directly to Home Depot. The labels on the heater asked the consumer to call customer service if there was a problem, so I did work it out that way. This should have been a straightforward replacement, but was delayed due to Manufacturer defect. In the end all was resolved and I'm very happy with the performance of my new water heater. The review for this product would have been 5 stars, but for the inconvenience of this particular problem, I can only give 4.

I had a new water tank installed about a year ago. Recently the gas control valve failed (a known factory defect, per Rheem authorized dealers). I incurred an almost $400 labor bill to repair it. Was on hold for an hour and Rheem refused to offer any reimbursement for the labor. DON'T BUY RHEEM! I have NEVER had a valve fail at all, let alone this quickly, on hot water heaters from other manufacturers. Would rate Rheem 0 stars if I could for both their responsiveness and customer experience.

My water heater was recalled due to "fire hazard". I was informed by Rheem that the control panel they normally provide (free of charge) is back-ordered with no ETA. I was told that I had to return the faulty water heater to the point of purchase for a new one. I got the exact model, just a few years newer and had to pay ~$500 more for the new one, okay fine. Here is where it gets bad. Rheem's deal was to reimburse me the installation fee up to $450. I provided all of the necessary paperwork, filled out their forms as instructed and have email confirmation that my reimbursement is approved and a check would be mailed to me in 6-8 weeks.

Here we are over 10 weeks later, and counting, and no word from Rheem. They will not respond to my emails and I cannot reach anyone on the phone. What started as their faulty product, barely halfway into the product's warranty, should have been a free "fix" has ended up costing me well over a $1,200! I would have been better off to cut my losses and purchase a water heater from a different manufacture, which is exactly what I will do when this one craps out before the warranty period is up. I held up my end of the deal, they will not hold up theirs.

One week before water heater warranty expired, it had problems. Did some troubleshooting, and determined that most likely, the upper element had burned out. Called their customer service, and that's when things got ugly. Gave first person the model/serial numbers and was transferred to their technical service line. Wait time: 86 minutes! Well, what ya gonna do? So I waited...after 1-1/2 hours, I got a technician; explained the issue and was then informed that I had been connected to the GAS water heater line.

The first person had transposed two numbers of my serial number and sent me to the wrong line. Seriously. Said I had to transfer to electric queue. Transferred me. Wait time: 84 minutes! Oh, no...not doing that dance again. Hung up and dialed back in. Got to their first level again - explained problem and requested assistance. Was assured I could be transferred to electric tech line and would be bumped up in the queue. Transferred. Wait time: 88 minutes! Seriously? Hung up again and called back. Again. Received immediate message that they were closed. At 10 minutes before 8:00. So much for their "Assistance available 24/7" sticker on the water heater. So now, I will have to call back...again...and waste 2 hours...again...all just to get a new heating element sent to me. Ridiculous.

Cynthia worked with me to diagnose the issue of my system (where a water leak was coming from). Doing this over a phone, without visuals is a nightmare, but Cynthia made it easy. She even creatively came up with an idea to Google the Model Number and view the same Google Image so we can ensure we're talking about the same thing. This greatly expedited the troubleshooting and made me more confident that she understood what I was experiencing. She even delighted me with just how wonderful of a Warranty I had on my unit. She was professional, caring, and it felt like she was genuinely concerned with my issue and wanted to assist in its resolution. Put simply, it felt like we were working TOGETHER.

I've talked to many Support Centers ranging from technical to basic retail, this has been, by far, the most effective for the time spent, and enjoyable. It was lovely working with Cynthia and I hope she gets the proper recognition to encourage her to continue, even through the more difficult customers, and to set an example for others! This was my first experience with Rheem, and specifically because of Cynthia, I've been blown away. This will be THE company I mention whenever a Water Heater comes up in conversation. The actual labor, parts, and fix isn't implemented yet and only have been put in place (I've received very clear and prompt emails about the expectations and next steps, thank you!), so I can't comment on the actual technicians or parts. So this Review is specifically for Cynthia herself. Well done, and thank you!

Well bought a water heater July 2020. Now Oct 7 pilot light won’t stay lit. Called company that installed it and they came out and said there is recall for these Rheem water heaters. Unit made in 2020 had a gas valve made incorrectly (also made in China). Rheem notified its vendors and sent kits (made in USA) to repair issue. These we to be install free as they went bad. What is needed is the new control module and new burner to match. Techs are replacing now. So I guess In a year we’ll know if works.

I post this because I read a lot of self installers talking to Rheem and just replace certain parts. Since the gas control module is paired burner you need both. The China made one the open for the gas was too small and would start to fail after 6 months to a year. So if you're just replacing the one part it’s a mismatch. And will still give you trouble. It really the match of thermal coupler to the Burner but they changed it anyway.

We had to pay $150 difference in price to get new water heater under warranty rules and $150 for plumber to install. That is not a warranty. A 6-year water heater should not break in middle after 6-months.

After considering all of this we decided to hire our own service technician, a local plumber, who promptly repaired the Rheem gas water heater. The cost to us for repair, out of pocket, was nearly the same as the original price of the water heater. Needless to say we couldn't possibly be more disappointed. “I am posting the following experience as an example of how companies should treat clients/customers regardless of stated warranties, policies and procedures. A number of years ago, I purchased an above-ground salt-water pool with a Raypak pool heater. It was a good heater, but two years ago reached the end of its life and had to be replaced. I decided to purchase another upgraded Raypak heater (larger and with digital readout). Unfortunately, for some reason, the heater only lasted two seasons before needing to be replaced. While I was initially upset at this prospect, all companies can occasionally have a product that ends up being “a lemon” despite regularly producing high quality products.

I have often said that a person or a company should be judged, not on mistakes made or an occasional poor product, but how they respond to fixing the situation. In this case, Raypak, sold in Canada by Rheem Canada, came through with flying colours. Technically, my Raypak heater was out of warranty, but Rheem understood the situation and recognized that their products usually perform much better than was the case with this particular heater. The company, with a special shoutout to the Director of Sales in Canada, Dave **, was very understanding and helpful in this situation by replacing my heater. Rheem/Raypak has just ensured a lifelong customer and one who will spread the word. Raypak/Rheem is number 1 in my books!”

Rheem was quick to provide a replacement part and tell me they would schedule a technician. Three days later no part, no technician, no hot water. I called back and this time was told the first service rep had misspelled information and they would fix it and get things sent, but they had no technicians in my area so I could pay a plumber myself and submit it for eventual reimbursement.

At this point I was losing patience, the following Monday August 23, we had now been without hot water over a week, but now I had replacement parts, but plumbers in the area weren't willing to work on Rheem products and the one's that were were over priced. We are on a fixed income and thanks to other repairs and safety upgrades our savings was nearly gone.

I contacted over 22 plumbers and finally just called Rheem back and told them they needed to send a technician because no one wanted to touch their product, if I had still been able to I would have gone to the basement and done it myself. The person showed no empathy so I asked for a supervisor and was put on hold for about 40 minutes, when I finally got the supervisor and was going over this whole thing I glibly remarked,

"I mean you guys obviously knew you were send out bad units, you have a line dedicated to the specific issue." To which the supervisor (Chris) surprisingly responded, "Yes we know." This company knowingly send out bad units, to be installed in homes, offices, daycares... what if the valve had gone bad the other way and not shut off? It could have blown the tank, because relief valves fail more commonly than you would expect. This is a bad company operating on bad policy and in bad faith.

The parts worked for about month and now again I’m out of hot water and still waiting for them to refund the money I spent because they didn’t have a technician even though parts and labor were both under warranty. After 2 hours on the phone again they are sending someone in 10 days that is out of state to come look at the tank. After talking to a few other people who purchased Rheem products I would not recommend as they all had the same problems.

In the 9 months I’ve owned the hot water tank I have been out of hot water for a month, missed work to wait on a plumber, spent $350 out of my own pocket, and lost hours on the phone. Plus after complaining and contacting them multiple times I am now getting emails saying they would only refund $250 and then an email the day after saying only $150 which are both contradictory of what they said. They do not care about products' quality or show any care for their customers. Highly recommend going somewhere else for all products especially hot water tanks.

I purchased a Rheem water heater, had an issue with it only 1 1/2 years into owing the water heater. Warranty only covers 1 year of labor, so after having a part overnighted, and yes I had to pay for it, part installed, the same issue was still there. At this point, I have paid $300 for someone to come and do work on the water heater and water softener that was messed up because of this issue. Rheem then makes you get the water heater uninstalled, returned to where you purchased it, and tells you that you will have to pay the cost difference if there is one. Mine was $400. Plus the new install, I'm out the door almost $900 and almost 1 1/2 weeks without hot water. Don't buy this junk, customer service won't help you. Better off spending a few bucks and getting a new one. Rheem is JUNK.

Now August 2021 the same issue, looking at other options. The thermal coupler is new, the combustion shutoff is good. Vents are not blocked. My assumption is the new gas valve they sent was a rebuilt one or a faulty one.

I purchased and installed my Rheem gas hot water heater Dec. 2, 2020. For 7 months I didn't have a problem but then like most people on here my pilot light went out while I was out of town so wife had no hot water. When I got home I lit the pilot and thought it was fine only to find out it went out again. Saturday evening I changed the thermocouple I bought that day at Home Depot the same place I bought the water heater so that night after changing that and it not lighting and changing back to the old one I figured it was probably the gas control valve. Sunday morning back to Home Depot to find out none of them had a gas control valve in stock. The gentleman at the store called Rheem and right away placed on hold for 20 minutes till he used another phone to call again. This lady was helpful saying they can get a plumber out but who knows when, so instead she sent me a thermocouple and a gas control valve.

I had to go back out of town Sunday so another week the wife doesn't have hot water. The part arrived before I got home so I changed it as soon as I walked in the door. Took around 30 minutes. So today I called to see if they can send me a spare gas control valve because I shouldn't have to go over a week without hot water and this original one lasted 7 months so I'm sure this new one will go bad. But I was told they don't ship out spare parts. This was all after being caller 39 and being on the phone for 58 minutes before getting hung up on. When this one goes bad the water heater is gone. Heads up when changing the gas valve mine came with a screw in plug in the hole I needed for my pilot gas line, make sure to plug the other hole if you have to remove one because I wasn't aware of that and had my house smelling like gas fast. Rheem needs to plug both holes and let the consumer unplug the one he/she needs. It could save a life.

Rheem was confident the thermal release device activated and told me that if the device was no activated, they would replace tank, at their expense, without question. I confirmed that the TRD was still in good condition and was told that they would have one of their approved technician exchange the tank.

The next day, they told me that I would have to secure my own technician and that they would reimburse me up to $450 to have a technician come disable tank, go to Home Depot to exchange it and reinstall new tank for up to $450. What plumber do you know will do all that for $450?? I got back on for phone with them and after waiting on the phone for more than 1.5 hours, they secured a plumber to come do the exchange. I contacted Rheem due to the warranty (be prepared to be on hold 40-60 mins each time), and was told they would send a contractor out. Well, 3 weeks later, I contacted them AGAIN since I had heard nothing, and was told that there were no contractors in my area so I had to do all the leg work to find a contractor who would diagnose it, pay them upfront and I would be reimbursed. Okay, so be aware that most plumbers will not TOUCH a hybrid water heater, what's less try to diagnose or repair it. I finally found one, submitted for the reimbursement (still have not been reimbursed), they sent a replacement control board, had to pay the contractor AGAIN up front to replace the control board (still have not been reimbursed for this second bill), which did not fix the problem.

Today, I called Rheem AGAIN and was told that I have to uninstall the water heater myself, drag it back to Home Depot to get a warranty replacement, and pay another contractor up front to reinstall the new one. This has been the most horrible experience and horrible company I've ever had to deal with for an appliance. When it works, it's amazing, but this POS only lasted about 4 months and is not worth the stress or additional money you will have to pay to fix it once it stops working. DO NOT BUY!

Over the past 6 days I have spent a minimum of 5 hours on hold waiting for them. While this is still under warranty (parts & labor) you will have to pay $30 if you want your part expedited (whatever that means, as the part is STILL not here on day 6). Worst customer service EVER. I was told "you knew what the problem was...the panel blinking lights told you." "Your email with the tracking number must've gone into your spam folder." Among "please hold" like 20 times.

Six days after the gas valve went out, I am still waiting for them to actually get the part to FedEx for shipping...They have received shipping info, but not the part to send out. I understand that once the part is here in CA, in my hand I can call their contracted plumbers to come install it. They absolutely won't set up an appointment until the part arrives (apparently they know how RHEEM customer service works). Then I will have to wait 2-4 days for the plumber to come. I can contact my own plumber, but will have to pay them and then get reimbursed...Doesn't sound promising. Strongly suggest you look at another brand.

Be warned they make you jump thru hoops, wouldn't accept the paid receipt, wanted it "broken down", and a copy of the plumber's W-9 AND a copy of the bank cleared check! So, I waited to post this until their check cleared.

Updated 08/16/2021: Six month old RHEEM hot water heater stopped working. I could not get thru to anyone at RHEEM by phone nor their webpage. Their webpage said they had no service workers in my area. So per warranty, I paid a plumbing company to repair it. Warranty says 1 yr., parts and labor. Found them on FaceBook and left a review, finally after several days and messages they called and emailed me paperwork to have filled out. Had to chase down the plumber for a list of parts and labor broken down, their W-9 form, and RHEEM wanted copies of CANCELED check from the bank. Lucky I paid cash! Sent it all in certified return receipt. All sent in 6-30-21. Today is 8-16-21, I have received nothing from them. My post on their FB page have been deleted. Please check their reviews online before purchasing from them, I am NOT the only one with RHEEM problems.

We have experienced the most disappointing customer service from such a reputable company like Rheem. We purchased the water heater from Home Depot for our rental property. In less than 6 months from our purchase, it stopped working. We thought it would be a simple fix, like re-lighting the pilot light, but it wasn’t that simple. I proceeded to call Rheem customer service to find a technician who could help us with the issue. After several hours on the phone, on hold and with dropped calls, a customer service agent was able to help me determine the issue. A part needed to be replaced and Rheem would be shipping that over. Several issues with this solution:

    1. Why couldn’t a local technician purchase the part locally and service us right away?
    2. Why isn’t the part readily available at a big box store, like Home Depot, where it seems they only sell Rheem water heaters?

    3. With Rheem customer service / shipping dept estimating 4-6 business days, our tenant would be out of water for almost a week. Why couldn’t the shipping be expedited as a courtesy since the water heater repairs were still under warranty?

Sure enough, the part took a long time to arrive to us and was even delayed. The part did not arrive at our rental property location for 9 full calendar days (7 business days). Because the part took so long to arrive, our tenant, who is a single mother with 4 young kids under age 12, was not able to have hot water. This is unacceptable for anyone living in the United States. We had to allow her to live in a hotel during this time. Therefore, we had to forego the rent she would have to pay us during these 9 days.

Our family and friends have been long time customers of Rheem and have bought many products, including water heaters and air conditioners. We thought the reputation of Rheem’s products would be on par with your customer service, but that is far from the truth. We will be wary of purchasing additional Rheem products and will advise our friends and extended family to do the same. We would also like Rheem to do some further investigations, since it seems this part has ongoing issues, and possibly recall this water heater product or part. A water heater should not break down in less than 6 months. I have now seen numerous bad reviews regarding your water heaters and your customer service. For a large reputable company, this is not how you treat or retain customers.

Everything checked out ok so on Friday, June 11, only 4 days after buying the unit, I called the technical helpline at Rheem. Caitlyn diagnosed the problem as probably being either the thermal coupler or the gas valve and that Rheem would send out the parts. The problem was it would be 4 to 5 business days. That's now an additional week without hot water on a tank which has been installed for less than a week. Expediting the order will cost me for the additional shipping expenses. I waited on hold with the shipping department for a half hour without anyone answering before hanging up and buying the parts locally. We currently have installed 4 of these and all have had issues from the start. An authorized repairman actually had to come out to adjust them because fire seemed to be spewing out of the exhaust opening at the top. The hold for customer service is by the hours, which shouldn't be surprising since their products are so problematic. Why a retailer would sell such a product unless they are getting special pricing.

They don't make water heaters like they used to, that's for sure. I bought a house a few years ago with a Sears water heater in it from 1977. It lasted until 2009. I had a new Rheem water heater put in March 2014. It failed May 2021, right after the 6 year warranty. The heater element rusted right through the tank, and this is a water heater that was connected to a water softener, so no hard water going through it at all.

Waste of money and it looks like I am not alone. Rheem needs to go back to see what Sears was doing. Same with all these companies that supply water heaters to Lowe's and Home Depot. A water heater should not be a disposable item. They should last 20 years, just like they did years ago. And for us consumers, we need to wake the hell up to the way companies like Rheem operate. Sure, Sears didn't keep up with the times, and Amazon is killing places like Sears. BUT, that doesn't mean that we should all be a bunch of suckers, getting water heaters replaced every decade. Two more calls to Rheem (they called themselves Rheem because they ream you) and they ship a replacement pilot light kit. $180 for a plumber to install and after many attempts it lights and heats.

Works great for a couple months and then the pilot light goes out. Many attempts later and another $120 visit by a plumber they fix it and it now works for close to a year before the pilot light goes out again. Call the plumber and $120 he resolves the issue after three more days of waiting for the part. Works this time for a year and now two and a half years after purchase it dies again. Three days without hot water and multiple calls to Rheem (ream) and they are shipping a replacement part (oh by the way if you want expedited shipping that costs $30 but it still takes two days). I finally got done. It is not worth the hassle of dealing with this company and their garbage product so I am replacing this piece of crap with an AO Smith.

The sad thing is that two plumbing companies told me not to purchase Rheem and I did because they had the better warranty. Well the warranty is useless if your only option is two wait for three days for the part and then you still have to pay the plumber to install it. Note to self. Find a reputable plumber, buy the brand they recommend and install and never buy Rheem.

It said they were not available even though according to the sticker on it they are available 7 days a week. We looked up some other numbers and tried to contact them but no one available.

Finally my husband got someone on a number that we found after a couple of hours of frustration. She agreed that the ignitor was bad and was sending us a new one. It would take 3-4 business days and this was on Saturday. The ignitor arrived on Wednesday and was an easy install. This episode was more time consuming and frustrating than necessary. If you have a big red sticker on the side of the water heater saying not to return to the store but call Rheem then you should make sure that phone number is actually answered by someone.

When I brought this frustrating experience to Rheem's attention they requested that I call them. When I called I was placed in a queue that said it would be about 20 minutes. I emailed them and said I was not willing to sit waiting approximately 20 minutes for them to take my call and told them to call me which was almost a month ago. Very poor customer service. Be aware when you purchase that they may not be available to help if there is a problem.

My plumber installed the replacement heater and that one failed within about 3 months time. I will never buy a Rheem heater again.

They sent me an e-mail that I was able to pay up to $450 for product and installation. Needless to say, the contractors that I spoke to, laughed at that amount. Plus, I could not get any of their contractors out for at least another 2-5 days. I called back and spoke with a supervisor who said I could take it back to store and get replacement. I told her I did not have receipt but I did purchase date and product registration. She said that would not be a problem because they have the ability to look that up in their system. The store only prorated the product.

I called again and spoke to another supervisor, Mike #**. I told him that the price difference it ended up costing me was $65.42. He said they would not be able to reimburse me because I didn't have original receipt. I told him that the supervisor I talked to previously said it would not cost me anything. I exchanged the water heater for the EXACT same water heater and they would not reimburse me that difference. Their product did not last 10 months and they obviously do not care about their customers. They do not back up their products. DO NOT BUY!!!

I called the 1800 number on the water heater (under it - it says not to remove or try to return it). The 800 number says it doesn’t exist or something along that line. I went into Menards and they told me Rheem now is who to call - even though it says Richmond - I called and was put on hold for warranties for hours - about 4 hours then I was told to fill out some forms - they would send them through email.

I asked to wait on the phone until the emails come though I didn’t want to wait on hold again —- I was assured they would come in 10 minutes —— I waited 4 hours. The forms never came through - I called again. Was on hold a couple of hours once again to be told by the representative that the other representative never actually sent the forms - I told him, "I’m not letting you go until you get me the forms" - he acted extremely annoyed with me - they came through. It took forever. NOW I have no clue what will happen next - the process of a warranty sucks - sitting on hold forever sucks.... The whole experience is a night mirror - a water heater should last longer than 1 year. So pathetic. Their products should be recalled.

We called the tech support and the customer service said that he has been doing his job for so many years and it was not the thermal coupler and said it was the gas control unit. We took his word since he said he was the expert. We paid to have it expedited for next day. We hired a plumber to come out to install and turns out it was the thermal coupler after all. I paid for the plumber for the service call. I called Rheem and after over an hour waiting was finally able to talk to the manager and he agreed to refund the expedited delivery charge. Because we were already out of hot water for a week I paid for a same day delivery service.

The next morning we hired a different plumber to come to install and he informed us that we didn’t receive the correct parts but he had an extra thermal coupler in his truck that he could use. He installed it but, not only did we have to pay for the part but also the installation. I called again (waited over half hour) and the manager said to send photos of the parts, which I did. He sent an email for me to call to discuss.

Again, waited on the line only to be put through to someone else, went through the whole story again only for them to tell me I had to speak to another manager. Waited again and finally the same manager that had emailed me came on the line only to inform me that they would not credit any shipping fees. I offered to compromise and pay for the same day service but he refused, was condescending and not willing to help at all. I highly recommend you stay away from any RHEEM water heater products. Purchased a Rheem hot water tank and had it installed August 2020. It is now mid December 2020, and the hot water is running out in short time. This was due to the bottom heating element failing. Rheem’s warranty at this point is full parts and full labor. Called Rheem and after a few transfers I was finally given a service approval. Their plumber did call the next day and they did show up the following day. The tech tested the bottom element and stated the element faired due to "Dry Fire". I know this was not the case. The electric was only turned back on after the tank was filled and the water lines had the air evacuated. I mentioned these details to the service tech, and he gives me this other "BS" explanation about "if the tank was left outside to long when it was being installed-the sun can heat up the element- bla, bla, bla...".

Here is the bottom line. Things can break for no reason other than it has an issue, maybe during manufacturing but if a company offers a warranty then they should honor it! Rheem did not for me. Hopefully if you buy something from them and you have an issue they will honor their commitments. Rheem shame on you. PS- I fixed it myself- took all of 10 minutes once the tank was drained. The service tech took more time talking to Rheem and writing up if excuse than it took to do the work. I'm also a Builder of 30+ years so I has completed my share of hot water tank installs.

I am not upset that a part went bad, I get it… things happen. The only reason I gave a second star was because everyone I spoke with was very polite and professional. What is disappointing is that Rheem does not consider my family having hot water for six day an issue. I am betting that the top brass at Rheem have not had to go through their warranty department for a repair, otherwise it would not be this way.

Here is an account by date of what occurred afterward. DAY 1 - 12/5/2020: Water heater stops working so I call Rheem Warranty. I was told they were closed and call back tomorrow. DAY 2 - 12/6/2020: I call Rheem and get put on hold for 15 minutes... no problem. They answer and take my info and then transfer me to Warranty. I sit on hold another 30 minutes. They finally answer and we go through a series of Q&A to determine what needs to be done to fix my water heater. It is determined that I need a part and that they will ship it to me... Ok, no problem.

I receive an email from Rheem stating the following: "Thank you for contacting Rheem. A part has been submitted to the Parts department for processing. Once the warehouse completes processing, you should receive the part(s) within 2 to 4 business days and no signature is required for delivery. Additionally, You should receive an email with tracking information once the warehouse packages your part.

Additionally, a request for labor coverage has been submitted to our Dispatch team for processing. You will either receive a call from our dispatch team with labor options or from an independent contractor in your area within 1 business day to setup an appointment. Labor coverage includes the repair or replacement of any part of the water heater due to defect in material or workmanship. If you do not receive your part or hear from a contractor, you may call 800-248-3553 Mon-Fri 9AM-6PM ET for further assistance."

Here is where I have a problem... "ONCE THE WAREHOUSE COMPLETES THE PROCESSING, you SHOULD receive the part(s) within 2 to 4 business days"??? This did not exactly instill confidence that I was going to get hot water back anytime soon. I have six people living in my house… my wife and I, an elderly parent, three children and none of us are happy with the thought of waiting six to eight days with no hot water.

DAY 3 - 12/7/2020: I do not receive a shipment notification, but I do receive a notification that I have been assigned a contractor to install the part once I receive it. I think to myself; I will get a little ahead of the curve by seeing it they have a part in stock and maybe, just maybe, they can get their part installed prior to Rheem's part arriving. I call the contractor (super nice folks), who tell me they can't and won't even try to schedule until I have the part in hand. Disappointed.

DAY 4 - 12/8/2020: No shipment notification by noon, so I call Rheem back to find out what is going on. I am back on hold for 20 minutes. Get transferred to the shipping department, wait on hold another 5 minutes. Nice lady tells me that my part has not been processed yet. I express my complete dissatisfaction with Rheem’s process, so she expedites the shipment (which costs $30) so I will receive the part the next day. I thank her and wait for the part to arrive. I receive a shipment notification that the part is being shipped and should arrive on 12/9.

DAY 5 – 12/9/2020: Waiting for my part to arrive so I can call the contractor to install it. Based on my prior conversation with the repair guy, it will be another day or two to get someone out. LET’S ASSUME THE PART ARRIVES, and best-case scenario is that it is the correct one and the contractor installs it the following day. DAY 6 – 12/10: Contractor installs the part, and we all get to take a hot shower. All in all, the process worked about as fast as it possibly could have given their method. Which means that it could have easily taken a couple of day longer.

HERE IS SOMETHING FOR THE OL SUGGESTION BOX AT RHEEM:
    1. Create a few “Authorized Repair Centers” in each major metropolitan area.
    2. Require them to stock some basic parts (like an ignitor switch or gas valve).

    3. Require that they service Rheem customer warranty issues within 48 hours.

Problem solved… customer confidence instilled, Rheem’s good name installed! A happy customer is a return customer! RHEEM… 6 to 8 days is TOO LONG to wait for hot water! UPDATE: The part did arrive on time and the contractor scheduled us the following day.

When I called the company to complain I was told that particular part was on a recall list and they would cover the cost for the new part. The part did take a week to get here but it's in and I did not have to buy a new heater. The 3 stars are because they took a week to send the part or I could have paid for the expedite cost which I felt I should not of had to since it was a recall part. They did not give me a hard time, they were polite, and knew exactly what was wrong. I still felt they should have overnight the part.

I have bought and installed a 50 gal. Rheem hot water heater back in 2014. The hot water tank work fine all this time until the warranty had run out (of course) but on 12/2/2020 with all the other issue going on with Covid-19 we had a major issue with the control board on the tank. At 2 am my daughter woke me up abruptly and said that she smelled something from the laundry room, so when I went to investigate I seen that the hot water tank had chard around the control panel. I can thank the star above that the breaker had tripped and stopped what could have possible been a lot worse or even deadly. These are the picture I took from the board. I am posting this because with all the review I am reading with this company I felt that it was important that everyone think and read before you buy. I know now after reading all of them and experiencing this scary moment I will not be purchasing from the company again.

After getting connected to the shipping dept, I was ask to give them $30 to overnight the part to fix the 6 month old water heater. It’s unacceptable to ask the customer to pay to ship the parts to fix their products. Rheem manufacturing process failed, and now they want the customer to help defray the cost. The part should be overnighted at their expense.. It would very easy to avoid that cost... BUILD A QUALITY PRODUCT...

Purchased a Rheem's Platinum hot water heater. A little after a year a leak developed and burnt out the control board. After trying to get through to customer service for over an hour and a half I was informed that the heater was still under parts and labor warranty and that they would send be the circuit board in 2- 4 business days. I asked if they could expedite it. Again I was put on hold until the shipping department picked up. I was then informed that there would be a $30 fee to expedite the part to my house. Does not seem fair that I would need to pay for a part that is defective and a direct result of Rheem's poor manufacturing.

I have a family of 5 without hot water and who knows when the part will arrive and when they can schedule a repair person to install the parts. I pleaded, with no avail, with them to just replace the hot water heater since there was no positive indication of where the leak is occurring. Looks like cold family showers for a while! Totally unfair and lengthy resolution.

Plumber came back later to see what was wrong. Plumber contacted Rheem and explained what was going on with the water heater. Rheem told him it was defective and gave him a case number. They also told him a plumbing company in Maryland would handle checking out the heater to see if it could be repaired. By the way, I live in Georgia! Plumbing company in Maryland told my plumber they did not have a work order for my water heater.

My plumber contacted Rheem at least ten times concerning the heater. Rheem could find the case number, but could never find any paperwork concerning my plumber contacting them. They put the burden on me by telling me to find a licensed plumber and having the heater repaired and then they would reimburse me. Is this the best they can do to stand behind their product? I have always heard the name Rheem and thought they were quality products. I will never buy Rheem products again. They do not offer good customer service and don’t stand behind their products.

I had to pay for an electrician to see if I had enough power, which I told them I had, then I had to get the plumber back a number of times. Updated review: Nov. 2, 2020

Please DISREGARD the bad review. It was not a Rheem issue. My mistake. Explanation (maybe others can learn from my mistake): The catch pan at the bottom of the water heater filled with water up to the overflow pipe that goes to the drain. I vacuumed the water out and made sure no water could enter from the drain pipe. (The drain pipe is also used by the furnace and air-conditioner.) After a few hours there was more water in the catch pan. I assumed this was confirmation that it came from a leak in the water heater. I was wrong!

I vacuumed out the water again, called the service number and wrote the bad review. After several hours I notice the catch pan was still dry. After a full day it was still dry???. I then realized the water I thought was coming from a leak in the water heater must have come from water that collected in the water heater's insulation which gradually dripped out. So the real source of the water in the catch pan was water that back-flowed from my furnace/air-conditioner.

I purchased a new Rheem gas water heater May of 2017 from Home Depot. November of 2019 it started leaking water severally, 18 months after installation. Rheem gave us partial credit for a replacement which did not include any labor for uninstalling and reinstalling. October 28, 2020 the new water heater started leaking, 11 months after installation. I'm currently waiting for call from a service provider who is to troubleshoot and replace it if needed. The water heater that was in the house when we purchased it amazingly lasted for 30 years. Rheem seems to have problems making one that last over 2 years. Hopefully, they had a temporary quality issue in the factory that they have addressed.

It's been working well and tenants are happy. Couple of weeks ago the pilot stopped working and wouldn't stay ON. Looked up in YouTube and found a few Very Useful clips by professional repairmen. The "Gas Valve" had stopped working and needed to be replaced. Called Rheem's Customer Service Dept and on the phone they suggested the same thing as I explained the problem. They actually sent me 2 parts they thought needed. One was the Thermocouple and the other one a Gas Valve. I had already cleaned the Thermocouple but they still sent me the part to make it easier for me.

I replaced the Gas Valve and problem solved. Yes I did happily pay $30 to expedite the shipping which made it 2 days. I am very happy with the Water Heater and very happy with the Customer service dept. But I think Honeywell should make better quality Gas Valves. Because a Gas Valve in my experience should work well over 12 to 14 years, especially Honeywell. Thanks Rheem.

After testing it-he found that the unit had an extraordinary amount of soot build up on the burner assembly and surrounding heat exchanger. The unit had the correct amount of supply gas pressure, correct amount of combustion air, correct area for make up air, and vent connection was all verified and correct. The gas pressure reading was 7.5-the gas stove and gas furnace works perfectly with no issues with the gas or venting. It has incomplete combustion still present after cleaning the burner assembly and pilot assembly. It had a faulty control module and burner assembly. There is no improper venting of the unit-it was inspected and was fine. The CO detector is located right beside it-it has NEVER sent an alarm for CO leak or detection.

They are saying it is due to installation-which it was professionally installed-They are just snaking out of the warranty-just like my installer told me they would do before I even contacted them. On the return call I was informed that it was under full warranty and to remove the unit and return it to the original place of purchase. If the new unit costs more I am responsible for the difference but ... I would get a brand new warranty. If it was the same price the old warranty would still be in effect. So I hang up and call the plumbing supply store where we purchased the unit.

I was told that Not only do I have to pay the entire cost of the unit up front (I will be allegedly be reimbursed for the original purchase price after Rheem reimburses them) but I have to pay a “service fee” of $125! I also have to pay a plumber to come and uninstall the defective unit then pay again to have him install the new unit! How is this a full warranty? Never again. We had to call the plumber out to look at the water heater because of the odor being so bad and were told that we needed to replace the anode rod to eliminate the smell. The anode rod that came in the water heater was not intended for well water. We tried contacting Rheem to see if this could be processed through our warranty and we were told it was not a defect in the product. In Feb. 2014 my home warranty company who by their very nature replace covered parts with the cheapest product they can. That’s an issue in and of itself. Sent out a technician who replaced the previous failed water heater with a Rheem 48 gallon tank made in Mexico. It states it right on the model number and serial number sticker. This tank came with a 6 year limited warranty. On 6/28/2020 the tank failed and was leaking out the bottom, luckily I caught it quickly and was able to shut off the water and attach a hose to the tank and drain it before further water damage could occur.

I called a plumber who came out first thing in the morning and he took one look at it and confirmed what I knew that it had to be replaced. I asked why this would fail within five months of being out of warranty and he informed me that Rheem is a consumer grade product that’s not very good. As he disconnected the unit and wheeled it away, a stream of red colored water followed it as it exited my garage. I asked the plumber if that was rust and he confirmed that it was.

I asked if my whole house water filtration system could have helped the unit fail faster as salt is used in the filtration process. He and my filtration company whom I already had scheduled to come out that day to change our filter medium, both confirmed that this would not have caused this and more so would have helped prolong the system as no sediment would build in the tank.

Plumber installed a new tank made in America and told me that this was a solid tank and should easily last 10 years. I contacted the Rheem warranty department and explained my situation and the front line rep stated since I was out of warranty there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a supervisor as I felt this was just a few months past warranty and how it failed seemed like planned obsolescence.

A supervisor called me the next day and I explained my plight and asked if Rheem could do something given the circumstances. The supervisor stuck to his story and kept referring back to the warranty and that he couldn’t do anything. I even asked if they could do some form of partial compensation as I was out $1800 for the new tank and install. He kept to his company line and stated he couldn’t do anything. In business you can ALWAYS do something, especially for exception situations where it’s clear your product failed sooner then it should have. I asked the supervisor if he truly couldn’t do something or is it more the case he wouldn’t do something. That was a little to close to home and we promptly ended the call as I knew I was dealing with a terrible manufacturer who they and companies like them are more concerned with profits then manufacturing and standing behind their product.

Rheem is a common brand sold at Home Depot and Lowe’s outlets. My plumber would never touch them because of their shoddy manufacturing. Rheem is a key example of the current discordant atmosphere in this country as their business practices are focused on greed, period. Use cheap labor in Mexico, less than adequate materials for the purpose of the product and make their margins by mass volume through these national retailers. Staff your customer service with minimum wage or barely over minimum wage to dodge claim calls and ultimately only compensate as few claims as possible. It’s more cost effective to staff customer service and train them to avoid claim fulfillment than it is to make good when their products fail.

This company should be shut down, liquidate all its assets, attempt compensate customers who were in warranty and denied and proceed down the list as best as possible. Residual if any, should then be used to fund a start up in either America or Mexico or both and bring in best in class manufacturing processes to produce a truly viable product that the new company will stand behind. DON’T BUY OR INSTALL A RHEEM WATER HEATER. Install a better quality tank and pay the extra cost. You will easily recover that cost in performance as well as not having to deal with costs of home and property damage from a failed tank.

After talking with the company who said they could send out service, but it could take about 1 week. Well with all the stuff going on in the world and me being a healthcare worker I need hot water. The guy takes off the black box at the top and lo and behold one of the three wires is not connected. It's a manufacturer defect and still will take about one week. So, the guy rigs it so we have hot water. I called 2 business days later because no one called me to set up service to find out that the call was disconnected and he never put it in. He had all my information already. Of course they had an excuse. I will never purchase another water heater from this company again. I also paid the guy to install it and they will not reimburse me anything. You know what I would like to do with this heater.

Well thought I was making a good purchase. The first electric water heater that I bought had the element go out twice. The first time they came and repaired it. Now the heater was only 6 months old on the first repair. After that not even a month passed and the element went out again with water also leaking everywhere. So after that on the third visit they notice that the element was not screwed in right causing it to leak again. They replace it with a newer model that was going to be better but my luck, one week into it and eco goes out.

They send the part. Had to wait a week for it just for the repairman to put it on and now my breaker is jumping. The repairman then tells me that's it's probably my breaker. Hint my breaker had never jumped having the first water heater. So technically the repair did an incomplete job because I still have no hot running water. Now customers services doesn't want to deal with my wife. It is up to you if you think it's worth buying this product. But I will never buy from them again. Not worth dealing with the repair people and their customers services. Best of luck if you buy.

I bought a Rheem water heater and the tank started leaking 5 years later. It says that it has a 12 year warranty, but they will not cover the warranty. What a terrible Product to start leaking so fast, and it was professionally installed by Home Depot. Their reasoning for not covering the warranty is suspicious and it seems like the warranty department's job is just to argue the ability to cover it. What a joke!

This review is in response to a denial I received from Rheem Manufacturing Company regarding a claim I made for a leaking hot water tank that has a 12 year warranty with full coverage (parts and labor) for the first three years. From the day I reported a problem with this Rheem 12 year Gas Hot Water Heater I was treated disrespectfully and it was abundantly clear from the beginning that it was going to be difficult to get this company to back the 12 year warranty on this hot water heater. When I reported the problem I was having with this water heater it was only one and a half years old and still eligible for full no cost labor and parts coverage for the first three years as stated in the warranty verbiage.

Rheem customer claim reps gave me a hard time about sending a plumber out to look at the tank and repair it. After asking to speak to a supervisor I was finally told she would send out a plumber and I would be notified by someone who would set up an appointment. I then get a call and was told they can't find any authorized Rheem plumbers in my area and asked if I would contact a plumber on my own and have the plumber fix the leaking tank if possible and send their bill to Rheem for reimbursement. I tried to find a plumber but none would come when I told them they had to submit their bill to Rheem for payment. I ended up fixing the tank myself with some help from a friend who is a plumber apprentice.

I turned in a claim for $18.06 and this chincy company denied payment, unbelievable!!!! Imagine what the claim would have been if a plumber would have fixed the tank and for sure I would have been stuck with that bill!!! I notified Home Depot (where I purchased the water heater} Customer Service and they were appalled when I told them this story. I only notified them because I wanted Rheem to be reported for their extremely poor customer service and not fulfilling their warranty agreements.

Home Depot is one of Rheem's largest dealers of their products and did not agree with Rheem's denial of this claim. They told me they were going to file a grievance against Rheem for the way this claim was handled and to show their appreciation of my loyal patronage sent me a $25 Gift Card. I will never buy a Rheem product again and will tell all every chance I get of this horrible experience. If you need a new hot water heater be very leery about buying a Rheem.

I just acquired a new hot water heater and wanted to learn more about preventative maintenance needed to prolong its useful life. One agent was helping me with ensuring warranty dates are accurate as their records show warranty start date as date of manufacture. Date of install is 5 months later.. They have a website for registration but that did not help update their warranty records. He told me to use their website again. I told him I already did that and nothing changed. Then, he said all I had to do reply to his email with copies of invoices and extended warranty info and all will be taken care of. A day later, nothing. So I called back and somebody else says she will look into it, update records and EMAILl me a screenshot to show it is done. No email received but warranty record was updated to correct start at date of install but did not include extended warranty date of additional 4 years. So now I have to call them back regarding this. Why is it so hard?

In addition, I wanted to buy extra anode rods (secondary, connected to HOT WATER Side) so that I have them readily available 5 years or so from now. That seems to be a VERY complicated process. Always requires Serial number which is totally irrelevant. All manufacturer's anode rods are universal. Difference is length of rod, length of nipple (for those that are installed in the HOT WATER side of the tank) and material composition. After half a dozen emails back and forth, still no info as to how I can get the anode rod needed. I even gave them part numbers and they told me to contact another department as the department I contacted do not handle customer service inquiries, just website related. HUH???

Another customer service rep emailed me instruction on how to maintain as well as user manual. I thanked him for it, asked him more questions, and.... NO RESPONSE since then.. A couple of follow up emails and still no. WHY? Frankly, I worry about the service I will be getting from this company when something really wrong happens.. I may have made a mistake buying their stuff. Their A/C unit is outstanding. Water heater is another story as I had problems with inaccurate thermostat BUT, to their credit a new thermostat was immediately sent and that fixed my problem. I worry what else will go wrong and the runaround I will get. Caveat Emptor !!!

My contractor and I called Richmond 800 number, only to be told I can not replace the hot water heater, they have to send out someone to install a part they think might be wrong from pictures I sent them. Keep in mind this is winter and we now have to wait 1 week for it to be fixed. So, NO hot water for my family for 1 week.

Nothing Rheem will do or could do to assist other than tell me that the people to repair are on their own time frame. The reps I spoke to on the phone were rude and not helpful at all. I purchased a 7 year warranty water heater in 2017 at Home Depot. I installed it (I'm a mechanical engineer and have lots of home improvement experience). About 18 months after I purchased it, it started having long recovery times. And after 20 months it quit altogether. A quick troubleshoot indicated that the elements were shot - and that the factory installed lower element had a pinched gasket which was causing a pinhole drip type leak. This obviously was starting the entire lower part of the water heater to start to corrode. I called the folks at Rheem, and they talked me through a complete troubleshoot again - and with my handy volt/ohm meter they determined that not only were the elements bad, but the upper thermostat was too. I mentioned the gasket issue which they brushed aside as a 'normal operational issue'. They promised prompt shipment of the parts.

About 10 days later the elements and the thermostat showed up. I drained and pulled them. No surprises - both were burnt through. I'm pretty shocked - I've never seen this ever before! EVER. And I'm 54... I replaced the parts and figured that I'd be good for a bunch more years (before this experience I was used to water heaters lasting 12 to 20 years!!). Imagine my surprise to hear a sound come from my water heater that sounded like my Arc Welder turned all the way up and welding 1/2 plate steel! The sound stopped after about 30 seconds and sure enough: no hot water. Didn't pop the breaker either.

Removing the upper and lower thermostat, I discovered significant corrosion in the lower one (probably due to the leak - I checked mine after install several times and no leak - but I used a bit of food grade silicone grease on my install to prevent kinking, just like on a oil filter of a car) was corroded. A bench test of the upper confirmed that it was dead too. And, to make it a trifecta, the lower element showed infinite resistance (burn out). The upper showed 14 ohms so I left it in place. I drained the heater and removed the lower element to find that yes, it was burned thru. Cheap junk, just like the thermostats.

At this time I'm real unhappy with Rheem. I suspect a serious supply chain problem with shoddy parts may be to blame, but I am concerned about the manufacturing quality as well because of the gasket. I'm a bit concerned that maybe the steel (which shows surface corrosion already!!) may be substandard and have rot starting. Or inferior welding... or.... I'm thinking that even though I spent $850 for this junker, it's time for a new one. I live 40 miles out in the country and don't want my house burning down due to an arcing heater - or someone getting electrocuted.

Rheem 50 gal hot water heater stopped working. The hot water heater is less than a year old and all of a sudden the burner would not come on. On the front of the tank is a number to call a technician, available 7 days a week. The hot water heater went on on a Sat. The technicians are nothing more than a call center to take your information and create a work order. Your S.O.L. until Monday. It was explained to me, on a new water heater, most plumbers don't have the parts and have to order them from Rheem which is closed on the weekends.

I called Rheem on Monday to make sure the work order was created and who the contractor was. I was bounced around for over an hour and sent to a wrong dept. Recordings come on saying there are 5 calls ahead of you and it will be a 10 min wait (Not)! I'm still on hold for over 25 mins. After all this, I finally get someone in their contractor dept. This person confirms the work order and gives me information on who the contractor/plumber is.

As soon as I hang up from Rheem, I call the contractors and he says the work order is just coming in. At this point, the contractor can't fit me into their schedule until Tuesday between 12 and 4pm. Ok, worst scenario, I'll have to wait until Tuesday. BUT, if they have to order parts, my hot water heater will not be fixed until sometime on Wednesday. That adds up to 5 DAYs without a shower or hot water!! Also, I operate an AIRBNB. I had guests staying over the weekend. I had to cancel them out and refund their money.

I purchased an electric 30 gallon hot water heater from home depot (Plymouth meeting,pa.) 06 Oct 2019. After plumbing the lines and filling the tank, the heater leaked from the bottom. I called Rheem and I had one of two options. Repair it myself and get reimbursed or wait 2 days for Rheem to send a part. Why should I work on a new unit I just purchased? Didn't like either option so I called home depot and they allowed me to return it for a refund.

In my stupidity, I purchased another unit, same as the first one because the copper lines were already plumbed. Yes, you got it, the 2nd heater leaked, this time from the top. Everybody is so concerned with American made products, this company is located in Alabama. Called the warranty dept and this time they tell me to remove the pressure relief valve and wrap it with Teflon tape. How difficult would it be to test the product before selling it to the public? This is an honest recount of my past weekend. M. ** (Norristown, Pa). I would not recommend this product.

Today (2 months later) I called to find out WHEN I should be getting a check. I was told 4-8 MORE weeks. Because I didn't submit my cancelled check with my claim - therefore - it hasn't even been processed. No call from them to tell me I needed to send cancelled checks. I purchased a Rheem Smart water heater back in November 2018. In August 2019 the water heater control panel shorted out and fried control panel. I need to add I did not pair my smart phone to my water heater. I set the temp to 120 and went about my everyday business. I called the tech line around 2 pm and was told I had to wait for a tech to arrive to fix the water heater. That was okay until they stated there were no techs available in my area, so they offered me allowance of $125.00 to find a plumber to come out and fix the water. Well problem 2 is there were no parts available in our surrounding area and I would have to wait for 2-3 days to receive the replacement part. Of course I was not going without hot water for that period of time and a plumber around here is $185.00 an hour from 8-5 and $277.50 for after hours.

After they caved and got Home Depot to replace the water heater I downgraded to the basic and once installed it began to leak. Frustrating as it was I returned to home depot with the water heater at 9:50 pm and was given another water heater. Problem 3, I received the replacement control panel 4 days later and called three times asking to return it and "Jesse" says just throw it away, no need to return it. Rheem must be making money hand over fist to throw parts away like that. I'm a home depot customer and I buy what they sell. Hopefully they will start carrying another brand for customers to choose from. I do not recommend this brand of water heater for any home due to the poor customer service they provide. Seven hours to replace a water heater. Thank God I'm a do it yourself-er and don't have to depend on anyone to repair my home.

I'm helping my father get his Rheem water heater taken care of. It broke several days ago. I went to the Rheem webpage and called a local plumber listed on Rheem's website. When I told the plumber I have a Rheem device, he immediately said, "Oh, I hate working on those. Everyone hates working on those. Rheem has made it very hard for us to work on their devices, and their tech service line even for us pros is entirely unhelpful." That plumber declined to provide service.

I then called a second plumber listed on Rheem's website. They came out, evaluated the water heater, and concluded it was broken beyond repair and needed to be replaced. Fortunately, the device is still under warranty, so the plumber directed me to inform Rheem so that I could be sent a replacement. I called Rheem and was surprised that Rheem's customer service wanted me to do a bunch of diagnostic maneuvers on the device. Isn't that what the plumber listed on their website who came out did?

Regardless, I did as Rheem wanted. Finally, they conceded that it needed to be replaced and was under warranty. But then they said for me to take advantage of the warranty, I need to disconnect the water heater, take it back to the place of purchase, pick up a new water heater there, and bring it back to my place. The water heater is 75 gallons in capacity, and disconnecting and transporting a water heater isn't something the average residential consumer can be fairly expected to do. Requiring me to do all of that functionally more or less makes the warranty a non-warranty. Overall, I've been unimpressed with Rheem's service and "warranty."

The Serial # doesn't come on the packet of info, or embedded into/on the tank, it only appears on a sticker which is put on the water heater itself, in the spot where water (if there's a problem, which there is) can run over. You cannot read the serial # & even if you have the warranty, they can't track down by your name only the model # & yes, that's right, the serial #. Is that ridiculous? Yes it is.

As I was gathering tools and cleaning up the burner went out. I tried relighting and the flame was weak and a noise was coming from the gas valve itself. I tried contacting Rheem and being a Sunday evening they were close. I contacted Rheem this morning and after being on hold for a hour and a half I was told that it was low gas pressure going into the house. How can that be when the original water heater worked fine.

The reason for replacing was that the tank developed a leak. I was told to check the wc at the gas valve. I got a reading of 4.8wc. I told Rheem this and they said it should be a 5wc. In my world 4.8 is in the range of 5. They refuse to send a gas valve and are asking to perform other test. I will never install a Rheem again. I also recommend you do not purchase one. Customer service is in the toilet and they do not stand behind their product. How could a brand new water heater not function correctly and the maker refuse to either replace the water heater itself or part that is recommended.

Purchased model #M061516469, 12-year warranty, 50 gal. unit (Serial XG50T120DU36U0) on Feb. 17, 2015. In mid August 2016 the unit began making a banging noise. Turns out the burner assembly was failing and the banging were actually mini explosions at burner shut down. Remember this unit had only been in service for 17 months. In Sept. 2016 the burner assembly was replaced, labor and parts were covered under warranty. Fast forward to Feb. 2019. The banging started again. Following Rheem's advice to begin warranty replacement of any failing parts a plumber came out to "diagnose" the problem. For a mere $215 the plumber told us what we already knew, burner assembly failure. This time the cost to diagnose came out of our pockets since the warranty on labor is only 3-years, the warranty on parts is 12-years.

The cost to install the new burner assembly was to have been an additional $225, but the plumber was going to give us a "discount" and only charge us $175. As it turns out installation of the burner assembly would be zero because the part is OBSOLETE! Yes, parts on a four year old 12-year parts warrantied water heater are obsolete. With that said the solution offered by Rheem is a warranty replacement of the entire unit!! We have to remove the old unit, take it to Home Depot, replace it with another Rheem water heater and bring it home. If we want it professionally installed the cost is on us. This just boggled my mind!

These heaters are extremely expensive. To have such an expensive unit fail, not once, but twice within four years, then have the company render it obsolete as to require replacement is just beyond me. I hate to think that I'll have another Rheem product in my home that is destined to fail due to obsolete parts before it's even close to the end of a 12-year warranty. Rheem should have absorb the cost of professional installation of their expensive parts obsolete four-year old unit. Seems like it would be the right thing for Rheem to do.

I bought a Rheem Water Heater less than a year ago. A few months ago, I the hot water in my house simply stopped working. It happened on a Saturday. I went downstairs to discover that the pilot light was off. I called Rheem Warranty when they opened and spoke to the technical department. Ultimately, they decided that the problem must be with the Thermostat. They said that they would send me a thermostat by mail and it should arrive the next day. It did not arrive the next day. It arrived two days later in the evening, and when it arrived, I called the service center people. They told me to call to get it fixed and they told me that they could not send anyone out that day and because of the cold weather in the area, that they did not have anyone available to send until the day after next.

I called Rheem Customer care again to see if there was anyone else that they could send to install the part. They could not find anyone to install the part within 48 hours. They told me that if I was able to find someone that I should pay them and I would be reimbursed for up to 250 dollars because I lived in a high cost area (New York City). I spent at least two or three hours calling around to try to find someone who would come and do the installation for only $250 dollars. It was a nightmare finding someone, but I finally found someone who could come and I paid them by check $250. I had been told by Rheem that I should take a copy of the check and submit through a form that gets sent in through a portal.

My kids and I had to go without hot water to wash dishes or take showers for 5 days. This happened while we were experiencing some of the coldest days of the winter. After paying the $250 and completing the form as instructed, I then called Rheem back and they told me that I needed to also get them a copy of the back of the check after it had been submitted for payment.

I called the company that did the repair and asked them to please send me a copy of the back of the check once it cleared their bank so I could get reimbursed. I then sent that in and resubmitted the form to Rheem after also reaching out to the billing department by email. It was then that I was told that I would have to wait 4 to 8 weeks to actually be reimbursed. I was very upset because had I known that I would be paying out of pocket and waiting 2 months to be reimbursed, I would have just bought another water heater when the Rheem heater first broke down.

I called in to the billing department and customer service for at least 15 hours in total. Each time I would get a different story and I escalated the issue several times and nobody ever got back to me. I was told there was a portal finally where I could check on the status of the check. When I checked it said that the check had been mailed out. I finally got the check by mail at the end of February. The Amount of the check was $125. Not only did it take over two months to be reimbursed, but they only reimbursed me for $125 and I am still out of pocket $125, not to mention having lost around 20 hours dealing with Rheem and assorted plumbing companies trying to go through their process.

If you have a Rheem Water heater and it breaks down, just go and buy another heater from a more reputable company. Don't even bother dealing with Rheem to try to get your heater fixed. They will waste your time and make you miserable. The killer is that the billing department wants me to fill out yet another bunch of forms to request an increase from 125 dollars to the amount that I paid.

Rheem customer care simply does not care. Their Managers are not responsive. I have yet to hear back from any of the managers, and more importantly, I wasted so many hours dealing with them and had my family suffer through 5 days without hot water in the coldest days of the winter because I trusted them to resolve things in a reasonable way. I would have been much better off going to Home Depot or some other large box company and simply having bought and had another water heater installed.

I replaced an old 80 gal propane standard type hot water tank with this outdoor tankless water heater this past summer. Overall it has worked as stated except it now takes about twice as long for the terminal faucet water to get hot. Though annoying, not overly serious. The prompt for this review was this morning when the hot water stopped mid-shower. I live in the Pacific NW, far more mild that much of the country and well within the working geography indicated by Rheem. Last night was cold (for us) dipping into the lower 20s. This resulted in a freezing of the condensation tube preventing it from draining causing the system to shut down with an error "29" (blocked condensation drain tube).

This tube vents directly out from the bottom of the unit. I had to go out into the cold to investigate and found an icicle hanging from the drain which I removed then put a heat lamp beside and below to warm up the bottom of the unit. When it melted a rush of water came flowing out and the unit was able to be reset and return to normal function. I called Rheem tech support and the only suggestion was to insulate the end of the condensation drain tube. I don't see how this is going to help; the water will still freeze as it drips down to the bottom of the tube. I suppose my only recourse will to keep a heat lamp on the bottom of the unit on nights that it drops into the 20s! It seems to me that if this unit was designed to be installed outdoors in areas where it goes below freezing and that condensation tube has to stay free-flowing they would have figured out a way to keep this from occurring with a small heating coil or something.

Based on my experience and reading the multitude of premature failures, it appears that Rheem either has design problems or quality control problems or both. I was in product engineering and operations management for 41 years, and based on my experience I believe that if Rheem does not change soon, they won't be in business much longer. Do yourself a favor and look into other, better options than Rheem.

My wife is worried our original Rheem 81V52D 50 gallon water heater is going to go out. I replaced the lower heater about 12 years into its life; only been drained once. 4 people live here and I'm the only 5 minute showering man. Good recovery from back to back showers for 1 hour. Now the hard part is getting a dual 4500 W unit like I had.

I purchased Rheem water heater in May 2017 form Home Depot. After installation it didn't heat water in 24 Hrs. $350 paid to plumber. Then go back again to HD and buy another one which also after another $350 installation stopped working after a day. Plumber has no clue how to debug this as the unit is completely closed, no way to see if even pilot light is on. It has 5 LEDs but the code can be deciphered into many different things that could be wrong. Then my property manager cleaned the blower and it worked again for 15 months. It seems just by sitting in Home Depot it collects dust in the blower. Then when it stops to run again after 15 months, I get another supposedly Rheem certified plumber to debug it and pay $195 to basically get bad reviews of Rheem and no real debug information.

I call Rheem many times and get a part shipped by them which again after calling the plumber and paying $200 doesn't work. I then start to debug it myself with tech support and this time they want to send me blower. By now 5 days have gone by with tech support, Fed Ex shipment, etc. But they miss sending me the blower and I lose one more day. By now I have lost over $700 dollars on plumbers for this Rheem water heater. I call the tech support, give them piece of my mind and of course she has no empathy for me and escalates the call.

The customer support manager is very well trained (A+), listens to my frustration, empathize with me, apologizes and reacts right away by authorizing a return to HD. So, I go to HD and after spending another 1.5 Hrs I could return it with help of a plumber (spend money again on the plumber). But I did get back full refund of $965 + Tax for the water heater in Home Depot store credit (not the best option but better than nothing). I am overall very unhappy with Rheem's quality but I doubt if any other brand is any better. It seems A. O. Smith is also as bad. I have taken a leap of faith now on Bradford White as that's what my plumber sells and installs. So, basically I am out about $1100 dollar for choosing Rheem (2 installations, 2 repair visits) plus so much grief and days without hot water.

I purchased a new townhome that had a Rheem water heater. The water heater tank leaked and had to be replaced when it was only 6 years and 3 months old. The company apologized and said it should have lasted longer, however they would not do anything to compensate for the poor product. I would not buy another Rheem water heater.

RE: Serial number RH 0505 B17863. Manufacture Date 05/2005. Model # 82V52-2. Our home is 14 years old. We went away for Thanksgiving and came home to a flood from the above Rheem hot water heater. It had rusted through the bottom and was flooding for days. Why would you make a hot water heater that could rust??? Our home is still being repaired. ALL of the carpet, hardwood, tile, and parts of the walls have to be replaced. I can send many photos. I just can't believe that you can sleep knowing that this happens to so many people. Do NOT buy Rheem products.

I purchased a Rheem 50 Gallon Electric Hot Water Heater in November 2018. Immediately after installation I got an error message that the lower temperature sensor was damaged. I called Rheem immediately. After more than 3 weeks and more than 5 phone calls they still can't get a technician to fix the problem (I live in Portland, Oregon).

Last phone call they said to me that they got a technician in Buffalo NY. When I told them, for third time, that I live in Oregon, the person decided to escalate the ticket to her supervisor. This guy (supervisor) send me a list with technicians who work in the area where I live. I called the first person in the list. He said to me that he does not work with Rhemm (!!) Prepare to be on hold for long periods of time when you call scam company. I wish I never bought this hot water heater and I hope others see my review so they can be saved the stress that I've been going through. Today is December 23rd. Christmas with no hot water. Thanks Rheem!

I see all of these bad reviews of the Rheem water heaters and notice that many seem to be purchased at a retail level either thru their plumber or directly from Home Depot or other home improvement outlet. We installed our Rheem water heater Model, RHEPRO52-2, in May, 2004 and it's still going strong after 14+ years. Never had a problem or leak. I researched which water heater to install before building, even talked to the Rheem folks. I told the plumber what I wanted. After much grousing, he installed what I wanted and I even got him to submit the registration paperwork that extended the warranty by 4 years ( one of the reasons I wanted it.).

Many times what you get in the home improvement stores and from the plumber is the "usual". They don't expect most people to live in one place long enough to have problems, so the store or supplier have the models which seem like a good bargain. You don't get what you expected, and many times less. The "usual" is usually (no pun intended) a far poorer product than what you could get from a reputable plumbing supply dealer. Having said all that, I apologize to those of you with all the poor service and heater failures no matter when you bought your water heater if I sound a bit too smug. Ours will probably give out tonight!

I purchased a Rheem 50 Gallon Electric Hot Water Heater in September 2018 (almost three months ago). It's broken and I have no hot water. I called them and they sent a horrible service tech out to my house who could not fix it. Prepare to be on hold for long periods of time when you call Rheem. I wish I never bought this hot water heater and I hope others see my review so they can be saved the heartache, tears and stress that I've been going through.
