On May 1st, 2023 I chose a Platinum Rheem 50G hot water heater from South Asheville Home Depot to put on my Home Depot Card. I had Rheem Authorized dealer install from Four Seasons Plumbing Brain Zook. The next morning May 2nd, 2023 an alarm went off 7am stated service needed. There was also water pooling at the top of unit. The same plumber came out from Four Seasons Plumbing and inspected to be sure it was not his work. We took pictures and documented and he showed me the cold water nipple threading was forced in the top of hot water heater during the manufacturing process. I sent all documentation and pics to Rheem the same day.
The customer service rep for Rheem, Glynith, was nice and stated they were in the wrong, but would only replace hwh and cover $750 of the $1666.70 labor charges. I was hesitant in just getting another hwh from Home Depot in that I might be damaged again. Brain offered to replace with their Rheem which did not have auto shut off valve nor alarm and was more expensive and not as long of warranty. Four Seasons did raise warranty to match with no extra charges, although I had to pay for them coming out a second to uninstall and re-install the new hwh that they had in stock in their warehouse.
Rheem should stand behind the unit that was damaged and have included labor charges incurred by defective hwh. I've lost all the labor charges because I picked out defective hwh from Home Depot that was manufactured by Rheem. Such a pity! These BIG COMPANIES do not care about the products they sell or represent and I am out all this money.

I purchased a Rheem Performance Plus 40-gal 9 YEAR gas water heater in September, 2017. In March, 2023, 5 years and 7 months after purchase and installation, it began not working. By a week into April, it quit, FAR LESS than the 9 years stated. I called a plumber recommended on the Rheem website, he could not come out for 4 days. In the meantime, my tenants has NO water because the valve that would have shut off the water to the water heater was frozen and so the water had to be turned off completely (because it was leaking badly at that point).
I spoke with several plumbers after that - I had to get someone out asap. Most recommended that I NOT go with another Rheem tank, saying that it was a very inferior product. So, I ended up replacing the Rheem with a different water heater. When I called the company looking for a partial refund because their product obviously did not live up to even 2/3 the 9 years advertised, they said they could not give me any refund because I did not replace the tank with another Rheem product. Like I was about to do that! It's a VERY inferior product and the company does not care AT ALL about the customers who buy their inferior products!

I had a new Rheem water heater Installed in Feb. 2022. On 4/15/23 I was without hot water. I contacted my plumber who installed it and he said there were some recall issues and he would check with his supplier. He then got back to me and said because of the recall issue Rheem would need to send out their contracted plumber. Their plumber came out 5 days later and did not replace any parts but re ignited it and said it was ok. It was ok for 48 hours and then out again and would not Re ignite. I contacted my plumber and he said it needed a new ignition mechanism. I contacted the plumber that Rheem apparently sent and he said “they don’t handle warranty contract issues on the weekend”. I called my plumber again and he felt bad for me and got the part and came and installed it without charge to me.
In the meantime I started a message to Rheem on their website since they have no phone number or customer service to contact. I followed up with Rheem today, and only getting their phone number through a Google search. I spoke to the rep and explained the situation, it was actually tech support I was talking to since there is NO customer service. I asked that my plumber be reimbursed from Rheem for his time and the part cost. She said there is no recall and Rheem doesn’t send out a contracted plumber to do their work. I told her they did. She was going to transfer me to the parts department to try and get reimbursement but I said that won’t work because it’s my plumber that has all the part info.
I asked what happened to the incident I filed on their website with all the info and who follows up on that. She said nothing happens and there would be no follow up by anyone in reference to the problem. I ended up giving my plumber the parts department number she gave me so he could try and get reimbursed. Save yourself a headache, DO NOT USE RHEEM. They have no regard for the customer.

Had to replace our old water heater. Plumber told us that Rheem was the best so we purchased. Gas control valve failed after 2 months. Plumber told us to call Rheem. Look up Rheem online and they tell us to call the plumber. Plumber gave us their number. They asked if I wanted to do standard shipping or pay for overnight. Stupid question, yeah, I'd like to go 5 days without hot water genius. Paid for the overnight only to find out that I won't get it until Monday. Granted, it was on a Friday, but the rep on the phone told me it would be here Saturday. After reading online reviews I now regret this purchase as it seems this is a known problem with Rheem water heaters. I'll be replacing this garbage and firing this plumber for recommending Rheem.

After about a year on the job, my tankless water heater sprang a leak and began to ruin the custom-made $5,000 closet I had built to house it. My plumber ordered a new pump and they said delivery time would be 2-4 days. Five minutes later, I asked my plumber to call them back and overnight the pump to us, but although only FIVE (5) minutes had passed, they explained that they couldn’t change the order and we would just have to wait for the part to arrive. The bureaucracy was so intransigent that once an order had been placed there was no going back. Why they don’t automatically overnight their parts, I will never know. Do they think hot water (their business) is a luxury, not a necessity? I have now been without hot water for six days and still no part. Inexcusable. My dishes are covered in an oily film from washing them in cold water. I bathe using pots of water from the stove. My clothes are washed in only cold water.
Through the past year and a half (the lifespan, it would seem, of this mediocre product), we have run out of water constantly, although they claim that you will never run out of hot water — the whole point of their product. We can’t shower if the dishwasher is on. Likewise, the washer and dryer. Likewise, if someone is also showering. I highly recommend buying a heater from another manufacturer or, failing that, heat your water in a big cauldron in the garden.

Installed a Rheem 50ga hot water heater in our custom-built home in September of 2020. Purchased thinking we were getting a top-of-the-line hot water heater and avoid unnecessary repairs for years to come. WRONG. Within 2yrs of normal use, we experienced failure of the gas control valve and the FVIR bulb in the tank. After 4 days w/o hot water and two trips from the technician, the tank was replaced. HOWEVER, you are stuck with a $400-500 bill for labor and service call. The customer service at Rheem wasn't helpful, other than to say the gas control valve is an issue they are aware of (know issue). They won't help with the labor past 1 year. WE WILL NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN. Find another option with domestically produced product. Rheem manufactures in Mexico. BUYER BEWARE.

I have been living without hot water for 8 days now. I purchased Rheem water heater two years ago. The pilot light went out. Technician came out to relight and it worked for a few hours. Second trip they cleaned up the wires. Worked for a few hours. Calls to Rheem parts department. They sent out an new element. It was to be delivered overnight but took two more days. Technician replaced element and water heater worked for a few more hours. Technician called Rheem again. Now they are sending out a new control box to come in one or two days.
I called Rheem but they really don't have a customer service department. Was passed around to 3 different people as I wanted to know why Rheem is not paying for 5 trips of labor to fix the labor. I was told the labor is only warranty for one year. Definitely not a way to stand behind your product. Bottom line is I was told this was the best water heater and worth the price. My previous water heaters last more than 10 years without a repair. It would have been cheaper to go to Lowes and buy a new water heater with a better warranty or cheaper water heater that would have lasted longer. I will never buy another Rheem water heater again.

Honestly, this whole experience dealing with their customer service reps trying to find somewhere to exchange my hot water heater was an absolute nightmare. The numerous reps I spoke with had no idea how to properly find the information needed and instead would give me a new number and a new company to call and deal with. A simple question as "Where is the closest place to me I can swap this hot water heater" turned into "We can only see that this tank came from a distributor, call them to find out" and 5 different numbers later I got someone who gave me businesses that don't honor the replacement.
I will never buy a Rheem hot water heater again. They create this 6 year warranty that nobody honors and make it near impossible to exchange even after they approved it. They just passed me along to different customer support reps that have even less idea how to handle the situation. From now on I will be dealing with AO Smith.

2 Water Heaters malfunctioned and caused damage to my property. Called Rheem because my plumber stated both units are still under warranty. I keep getting transferred to "Technical" support even though I keep telling them I need to make a property claim. Finally was transferred to what I thought was "Claims" and I was told I would be contacted by a Rheem Claims Rep (3 weeks ago) but no contact yet. Spoke again with Rheem customer service, sent me to what I thought was claims but then that rep told me to call another number that would put me thru to "Senior Warranty" but nope...another "Technical" rep. I have called Rheem over a dozen times & have spoken to at least 19 people and none of them know who I need to speak with. Every time I call or I am transferred, it's a 10-15 (sometimes 30+ min) wait in queue or I get disconnected. Worst experience ever because nobody wants to do their job

I purchased a Rheem Performance water heater in the summer or 2017. Just last week my heater began leaking from the bottom. The tank was leaking. I called Rheem customer support and they asked for my serial and model number. They told me if I had a purchase receipt. I could find my receipt, so they told me all they could go by was the manufacture date which was December 2016 and it was out of warranty on December 2022. I told the (who by the way was very rude and sarcastic) I purchased my unit in the summer of 2017, so I still had warranty. I told her I could not find my receipt of the original purchase, but even if we used the manufacture date December 2016, the warranty expired in December 2022, I called in the issue towards the end of February 2023. They give you a 30 grace period. So it was 30 days past the grace period that I called in my warranty. They would not budge… I was furious.
I told the lady, "I paid 800 dollars for this unit and just because I can’t find my receipt, you're not going to try and help me out to resolve my issue." She said, "Unfortunately, we cannot help you." I said, "Fine, I’m pulling out this piece of junk water heater out and buying another unit, and I can assure you it will not be a Rheem." A word of caution. If you buy a Rheem water heater, keep your receipt, even if 5 or 6 years pass, keep your receipt or the manufacturer will not do anything to help you out.

Our Rheem gas water heater was installed 4/7/21 and today is 2/23/23, so it is less than two years old. The burner assembly stopped working and we went for a week without hot water. Rheem sent replacement parts but only paid for about half of the repair bill of about $850. We're not at all happy with the quality of the water heater or with Rheem's response.

I have always used Rheem hot water heaters. I had one in my home when I purchased and it had served me well for 17 years. It was time to replace the unit so I purchased another Rheem hot water heater on 3/1/2019. Product had a 5 year warranty. I purchased an additional warranty for 6 years through Home Depot. I noticed water in the pan of my product on 2/7/2023. I contacted the warranty company that I had purchased through Home Depot. They sent a company, plumber that they work with to assess the product. It was determined that the product was leaking from the inside and at risk of rupturing.
After days and every 3 hours of emptying water out of the pan. I was exhausted and ready to resolve above and avoid the risk of my finished basement flooding. I had my licensed plumber assess above on 2/10/2023. I was waiting for approval of a gift card for Home Depot through their warranty that I had purchased. I had the choice by plumber to drain the unit leaving me with no hot water until replaced. Or risking the unit rupturing. I could not risk above while waiting for gift card from Home Depot. I had my contractor, plumber supply me with a hot water heater and install the unit. Above was installed on 2/10/23 between 2-5 p.m.
I reached out to Rheem warranty on 2/13/2023 and spoke with Nadia supervisor re: above and some compensation. I was denied above due to not returning damaged Rheem product to Home Depot and purchasing another Rheem product from Home Depot. I had been told by my Home Depot warranty that I did not need to save the damaged unit since their plumber assessed the unit and said it is unrepairable and needs to be replaced. My last words for a company, Rheem that says they stand by their products did nothing for me and my unit had a warranty until 2/13/2025. Buyer beware of Rheem products & warranty!

If there are negative reviews, I will not hesitate in giving that for Rheem. When my Rheem hot water tank broke down for the third time during the first year (bought thru Home Depot), I had to call them to ship for some critical parts. Since Rheem does not stock either with Home Depot or local plumber, they have to ship them via FedEx. In my latest breakdown scenario, I asked them to overnight the parts by paying expediting charges. Supposed to be next day shipping turned out to be 5 days while we didn't have hot water in winter months.
Overall with all the haggling with Rheem, we suffered having no hot water for almost four weeks in winter season. I have to admit that all the agents were quite nice, but every time I called, I had to hold for almost an hour. There are no direct lines to any department within Rheem. Each time I had to go thru a central number and wait to be connected. Then the process of transferring within the departments starts and each time more waiting. Very frustrating experience. I have a feeling that it is purposely designed that way so that the customers will get frustrated and will hang up. NEVER EVER BUY RHEEM Products. No help from Home Depot either even though it was purchased thru them.

I would have given Rheem a five star rating if they even made a reasonable effort in providing customer support. The product is a very good one but I submitted multiple customer response forms and received nothing. If they are going to sell through retail channels then they need to support the customers who purchase their products. I purchased my tankless WH through Home Depot thinking that this would be a good channel for support. My advice to anybody looking to purchase a Rheem product is that you will be on your own.

Unit installed eighteen months ago, mfg 28Dec2020. If I had followed Rheem instructions I still would not have hot water after 10 days because they refuse to replace defective units. They only arrange for redesigned parts to be delivered so plumber can install at my cost. The issue is Rheem wants the customer to get so frustrated by delaying the fix that the only real choice is to throw out the old and buy new from a reputable company. They in effect pass on their responsibility for paying for and fixing product defects. They told me they have no idea how they could possibly track defective units since they are sold to wholesalers. Zero accountability. They deserve a class action lawsuit. I’m surprised this haven’t happened. Let’s all be environmentally responsible guys. This is a travesty! Why are they in business?

I bought a Rheem electric tankless water heater RETX-24 from a reseller as part of a radiant floor heating system. It started making noise shortly after installation which grew progressively worse as time went on, and it eventually just quit working in any capacity. I called Rheem and they sent me a troubleshooting document which turned out to be for the wrong model. After calling them back, they sent me the correct procedure, which involved disconnecting the plumbing and accessing the inlet side of the heater. Fortunately, I had the tools and ability to do this myself or I would have had to hire a plumber. I discovered the flow meter had worn a hole in the side of the cheap plastic housing it was in, stalling it out so the heater was not detecting flow.
After verifying that it was still under warranty, they said they would ship me out a new part via FEDEX and it would take five business days. I requested expedited shipping since this is how we heat our house. They told me it would cost about $125 to ship a half ounce part. I pleaded my case and asked if there wasn't another way to ship it (like USPS express mail) and they refused. They said they only shipped FEDEX and would not budge on the cost. It's now been delayed because of Christmas or weather (not sure which) but we've been without hot water for 8 days during the coldest week of the winter. So beware...If you buy Rheem, they may send you a new part if you do the work yourself, but don't expect to have good customer service or expedited shipping unless you want to pay a fortune for it.

Purchased Rheem Gladiator 50 gallon electric hot water heater from Home Depot. Actually wanted to purchase the Rheem hot water heater with heat pump but went with the Gladiator. Home Depot subs installation to private contractor. The contractor, I believe, is a multi state company who sets up your installation with local plumbers in your area that are part of their network. That company charged me almost $1000 for delivery and installation. My total bill was 1785. The plumber installed a line incorrectly and I told him to fix it just before he was ready to leave. The EcoNet system I found difficult to set up and lost connection to my server on a regular basis.
Since day 1, I got about 2 1/2 minutes of hot water when in the shower. I’ve had this unit 2 months. I want it to work. I thought Rheem was a good company. I’ve called Rheem concerning my problems with this unit. They have no technician for my area to check my unit. The breakers for this unit tripped and we had cold water. Bought a brand new water heater from Home Depot (Rheem) that never really worked correctly. After about 5 mo I called Rheem who then sent out a local plumbing co to replace the part they said was defective. After replacing part twice water heater still did not work properly so they decided to replace it. And this is where the problems started. Was told to take it back to home depot to get a replacement, Rheem had the local plumbing work with me so we could take the water heater back to home depot, they warned me I would be responsible for any difference in price (which I thought was a little weird to say) as well as if parts were not up to code beforehand.
When we got to home depot they would not take it back until (cause their policy is 90 days) I told them this is what Rheem said we were to do. Then they wanted to pro-rate the water heater instead of doing an even swap even though the water heater was not even 6mos. old. They wanted me to pay an additional 160.00 plus tax to get a replacement water heater. Yes Rheem manufacturing warranty is 5 years but home depot warranty is only 90 days. What a scam.
Both Rheem and Home Depot both know these water heaters are a piece of junk, local plumbing companies know Rheem heaters are junk and we the consumer are being scammed by them both to shell out more money for something that does not work properly in the first place. After I stood my ground and had a manager come up front Home Depot finally did and even swap with me, but I will probably have to go thru this all over again in 6 mos to a year. Why there is not a class action suit against the both of them is beyond me.

Called and was told they were aware they had faulty parts and would send out a replacement overnight. A week later it came, lucky the plumber walked through my tenant at the time how to install and got it working after almost two weeks and no hot water. Had to pay a plumber, new hot water heater and tenants for lack of water to bathe, wash dishes etc. Fast forward we took house back and now have NO hot water for two days and now being told that they have only known since Jan 2022 about the faulty parts, this is **. You have record. You sent me the same part before and now sending another one to be told they don't overnight anymore and it might be here by end of week, it is Monday as I write this.
Had a plumber come by to see if he could do anything in the meantime. He said he has been replacing these parts for Rheem since 2017 and they have known about this for a long time and now are sending out steel replacement instead of plastic. He said his company and many more will NOT carry or install these because of the way that Rheem has handled this and known about this for a VERY long time and yes they are replacing the parts but only paying a very small amount for labor and most plumbers charge a trip charge now to come out plus and hourly labor rate.
So you are in the negative NO matter what or how you try and handle not to mention you miss work, school etc for not being able to bathe for over a week if not more if a plumber is not available!! It is time Rheem took responsibility, why haven't they sent out a replacement to me since I have been in their system as having faulty equipment they sold in 2020???
