I purchased a Rheem Performance Platinum about 12 years ago. It has worked perfectly. Unfortunately we have to replace every plumbing pipe in our home. We got 6 quotes for the job and every plumber recommended replacing our water heater. I planned on going with another Rheem but am a little leery after seeing the complaints about their customer service. They are horrible!

I just purchased a Rheem Tankless water heater. Called technical support with regards to electrical question. Waited 43 minutes and all you here is a recording how much we value your business and someone will be with "soon". I would like to know what their definition is of "soon".. I then hung up. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST OF THE WORST. I do not recommend this company for their customer service. But they want to sell you their products. A real pain in the butt with their AI call system. USELESS!!!!

Poor customer service, they were rude and condescending. Gas control valve failed twice. They said they had to have it officially diagnosed. The licensed plumber was here, told customer service how they diagnosed it and Rheem tech manager was not familiar with the diagnostic tools the plumber used. We are going to buy an entire new water heater.

I wouldn't recommend Rheem product to my worse enemy. Husband and I decided to upgrade our water (2017) to a larger container. At the time, our plumber suggested to go with Rheem. If I was in charge back during the replacement I would have asked questions and researched about review on this water heater. If I knew back then the quality of Rheem, I would have rejected the Rheem option and gone with another reputable brand. Our water heater only lasted 9yrs while they only offer 6yrs warranty with their water heater. My dishwasher, microwave oven, stove, dryer and washer are at least 10yrs old.

We had to replace costly parts and labor one year after its warranty expired. Now it’s not working again and we’re told it’s a faulty thermopile/gas valve. We’ve decided to purchase a new water heater, but definitely NOT RHEEM.

I have had to replace my Rheem performance Plus 50 gallon water heater 3 times in 8 years. The last hot water heater was purchased on December 2022. It started leaking just as the last one from the bottom April 2025. I purchased another Theme on February 11, 2026. The tank was still under warranty at Home Depot. I needed the adjusted price in order to apply to another unit. Home Depot only sells Rheem. I had no choice but to purchase this brand again. I am a senior citizens on a fix income and cannot afford the full price of a unit plus have the damage leaky tank drained, haul to Home Depot and reinstalled. This cost money. I have no confidence in this unit. I have to go into the attic often if not daily to ensure the unit is not leaking. I feel like I have no choice because of finances except go back to this Rheem manufactured hot water heater. If you have a choice do not buy this gas hot water heater. It is a total headache.

I have had my tankless water heater a year to the day and it's been a week with no solution from Rheem customer service. We are being told to drill holes in our wall for proper ventilation which we did a year ago at time of installation!! Troubleshooting over the phone with "experts" has been trial and error versus sending someone out to service our damn water heater!!! No customer should have to go through all this with a warranty!! I could care less of this brand name, the product is not as it used to be and the customer service reps are not educated enough about the products to help. I should not have to buy another water heater just to resolve this issue!!

One I can say is that a 6 year warranty gas water heater is exactly that! My brother just called me to help him buy a new water heater. His is a Rheem and the tank is leaking from the bottom already. He bought it on 5/19/19! I remember water heaters lasting at least 15 years. My lady has a Rheem that boils every time you use the hot water from anywhere in the house (6 yr warranty expired). I just bought 2 of them about 2 years ago. I am worried about the life of them. Customer service is awful. Quality is in question!

I’m fixing to have my 3rd Rheem electric 50-gallon water installed in 8 years under warranty due to leaks internally in the units. The only reason I’m putting in the third Rheem in is because it’s covered under warranty. However, I’m not at all happy as I’m still having to pay labor to the tune of $300 every time one fails. This will be my last Rheem, if this one fails, I will move to a different brand regardless of the warranty. I definitely would not recommend Rheem units if you’re looking to purchase a new water heater.

This company is horrible. They do not stand by their product. I paid nearly 800 for 2 water heaters in 2020. They sat in my basement for 2 years before I could pipe them in. When they were piped in and running, they went for 1 year and then both pilot lights won't stay on now. They said the 3 year warranty was void even after explaining my situation. I even talked to a supervisor but they said there was nothing they could do. They offered no additional help. Extremely disappointed and out 800 bucks.

I have been extraordinarily disappointed with my Rheem 50 gallon water heater. It is four years old and it failed. I had my plumber. Replaced the entire gas unit and it still has failed. After a long conversation with a Rheem employee, I was told the tank would be replaced. Unfortunately it was bought through Home Depot, which is a company I cannot support anymore, especially for appliance purchases. I need to pay my plumber to take the tank out take it back to Home Depot, where they will prorate their warranty, and provide a new tank that I will have to pay my plumber to install. If there is a worse warranty on the market for an appliance, such as this, I am unaware of it. I would never recommend anyone by a Rheem water heater.

We were maybe 20 days outside of the warranty from manufacturer date. The unit broke. It lasted 6 years. It was maintained and kept in perfect condition. Customer service said they can’t do anything for me and I can’t expect it to last that long even if we did everything right. To have a unit only last 6 years is poor quality. It’s like they plan for it to stop working right outside the warranty nor does the company care about their customers.

We bought ours 6/24/24, and it is a total loss. They now want us to pay $1,500 in labor to have a new one installed. That's just the labor. Oh, and since we still have the receipt, we may have to pay the difference in the new unit. Avoid them at all costs!!! At first, it was the ignition switch; they sent a replacement part. Then it was something else, mind you, we had to pay $225 for someone else to come out and say the entire unit was trash. There is ongoing litigation; you have until March to file: ** Rheem Water Heater Defective Drain Valve Class Action Settlement, Claim Up to $1,500 Available for Owners.

Hot water tank failed after 3.5 years of installation. Three calls to "customer service" for 2 different parts orders. Second part sent was a safety sensor which came with instructions that "if this part failed, you should replace the water heater." WHAT? What are you guys thinking? Customer service is VERY SLOW and transfers you to different departments that often never answer the phone. Or it puts you back in "phone tree hell." Also, file a claim for cash reimbursement under their warranty and allow "4 to 6 weeks" for processing (or for them to continue to use your money for as long as possible.) Poor customer service, poor product quality, poor warranty response. I'll never buy another Rheem product.

Water Heater is 4 months old and already throws code A129. Can't even do the dishes without it throwing the code and having an empty tank with zero hot water. And of course it happens on Christmas and new years so Rheem isn’t even open to give support. So here we are about to buy a new water heater for our new house since Rheem is legitimately USELESS.

I purchased a home a couple of years ago that included a Rheem water heater. The unit has failed prematurely, well within what any reasonable consumer would expect for a product of this nature. The tank developed leaks at the bottom and at the valve, rendering the water heater unusable. Here are the details:
Serial Number: Q051824708
Manufacture Date: 30 JAN 2018
Issue: Tank leak at bottom and valve.
While I understand Rheem’s Limited Warranty is non-transferable, many states—including Texas—recognize an implied warranty of merchantability, meaning products should function for a reasonable period under normal use. A water heater failing this quickly does not meet that standard and strongly suggests a manufacturing defect. I contacted Rheem requesting goodwill assistance (such as a discounted replacement or parts support), but was informed they do not stand behind their products in these situations. This is unacceptable for a major brand that promotes quality and reliability. Desired Resolution: I am requesting Rheem provide a goodwill solution—either a discounted replacement unit, parts support, or another reasonable option. A failure of this magnitude within such a short timeframe undermines consumer confidence and brand reputation.

Purchased in August 2024 at Home Depot after our old Whirlpool gave out. Sadly, we had no other options as we had no hot water and the only options was a Rheem. It went out within 2 months. Thermostat. We replaced it, wasn't expensive didn't want to deal with Rheem given all the horrible customer service reviews. We are 8 months and it is completely broken. Manufacture date 10JUL2024. The customer service at first is great. They send out a tech (contractors) - they are wonderful. The way the contractors are treated by Rheem Customer Technical service is beyond horrific! I heard 3 people treat the gentleman in my home be talked to like a 3 year old by Rheem "tech support, who was reading a script". After 2 days without hot water, and a lot of arguing with me and the contractor, we are getting a replacement water heater. It will NOT be a Rheem. Do yourself a favor and do NOT get a Rheem product.

One star only because I cannot leave ZERO. I bought a water heater from Home Depot. Rheem is all they sell. It lasted 18 Months with a 6 Year Parts warranty but only 1 year labor. That is because their parts suck and they know they will have to replace them, but the labor cost is as much as the original purchase. My Suggestion is to NEVER BUY RHEEM PRODUCTS.

My Rheem 6 year warranty 50 gallon hot water tank leaked in less than 3 years of use. Rheem wants me to send the defective parts (tank) and they will send new part. So family has to be without hot water for a week or more. Do Rheem executives not shower for a week? The warrant should allow water heater to be returned to Home Depot for a replacement heater with no extension to the warranty. I would like to hear Rheem’s reply.

We bought a water heater just over 3 years ago. The thermostat has gone out 3 time since install (more frequently than once a year). Customer service refuses to do anything but send a new and unimproved replacement part. In the past they required us to pay an additional fee to expedite shipping. This time they won't expedite or give us the option to ship any other way than ground. Additionally, it's been more than 3 days since we ordered it and they haven't even shipped it yet. Perhaps needless to say, they don't cover labor or install either. Given the regularity of it going out I am very concerned about what happens beyond the warranty period. I am so frustrated with the inconvenience and problems this regularly poses for my family of 7 and trying to figure out how to do dishes and bathe my children with no hot water.
This is the last product I will ever buy from Rheem. Their products are lemons and their customer service makes it clear they don't care. If by some miracle they saw this review and wanted to remedy the situation our case number is **, but given other reviews it seems they are truly just a junk company with no customer service now.

My water heater is less than 4 years old and has caused significant damage to my home. This company really needs to be investigated. My home warranty would not cover the cost to replace the item because it is still within the warranty. Now Rheem wants so much information as if they do not have a reputation for having poor quality products. The base of my water heater needs to be completely replaced, and I have a mosquito infestation as a result of the water leak.

I recently purchased a mobile home in 2020 and always had trouble with this hot water heater mainly having to reset it constantly. Well it finally died. I bought a Rheem water heater in Sept. 2020. The company that installed it said that "2020" was a bad year for Rheem. Rheem also acknowledged a problem with that year's output (don't buy a 2020 Rheem!). Its heating element broke down twice. It was replaced at no cost - thankfully. And company said it should last now. Now, it has a corroded "nipple" at the top - and it needs replacement. But... the part is no longer made. Great. So Rheem said it can supply a new water heater if I can't find the part anywhere. Sounds good - right? But to install the thing will be another $4,000! And I just had it installed 5 years ago - shouldn't need to spend $4,000 every few years. Rheem suuuucks!!! Don't buy!!

Just replaced a Rheem 75-gallon gas water heater. Well actually three, yes three. Rheem XG75T06ST6U0. 3rd time was the charm. Purchased at HD in LV, HD plumbers came out with the Rheem WH installed the Rheem WH but when they started it up, it was making very loud humming/vibration with metallic banging sounds. They immediately pulled it and off we went to HD to exchange and return two water heaters. First one was still under warranty when it died/wet the bed and the second, which was installed and uninstalled, was defective. We returned new Rheem WH in tow and they proceeded to install the second Rheem WH. Unfortunately, this water heater was defective as well.
When they started this water heater up, it also was making a deep humming/vibration. After extensive discussion with the plumbers, it was decided that I would let the Rheem WH go through a break-in period of a few days and if it didn’t quiet down, to call Rheem and HD plumbers to find a resolution to this very loud and scary water heater in my garage. The water heater install took place on a Thursday, by Monday, I was on the phone with Rheem and HD plumbers requesting a service call for replacement of this defective unit. Called and spoke to Rheem and they deemed, based on my description of how the WH was operating and the noises it was making, that it was a problem with my house gas. They suggested I call the gas company to have the pressure checked before sending a technician out. Ok but my previous water heater worked fine and didn’t have a gas issue.
It’s not a gas issue, it’s a defective water heater. I then called HD plumbers requesting a service call because this Rheem WH is really loud and scary. Sounds like it’s going to explode. He came later that evening, we spoke and he tried to troubleshoot the problem with no success. He attempted to adjust my home's water pressure, stating it could be the problem. I advised him that it’s not the water pressure. There are no issues with my home's water pressure. He also ran a test of sorts by cutting the gas supply slowly to the WH with mixed results.
As he cut the gas, the rumbling and rattling got quieter and quieter until it was silent. The gas valve was now nearly shut off and the flame in the Rheem WH was on the very low setting and more like simmering rather than heating. He turned the gas up and it got louder, turned it down it went silent. We spoke for a few minutes and scheduled a replacement for this defective Rheem WH. We agreed to the upcoming Saturday. I called Rheem and was on hold for 30 minutes and then placed myself on the callback list with a wait time of an hour. Never heard from Rheem call back, later the next morning, I got a voicemail from Rheem, “sorry we missed you”.
We went a week without a properly working Rheem WH. Warm water was only available in the full hot position and for a few minutes only. It amazes me how something as simple as the convenience of hot running water can be so humbling. We went back to old timer day when they were boiling hot water for baths and laundry. Saturday came, it was an afternoon install, window was 1-5 pm. Solo HD plumber installed the 3rd 75-gallon Rheem WH in about 1 1/2 hrs, including a trip to HD with the bad Rheem WH. Once installed, the new WH started up and has been operating quietly in my garage for the last few days without issue.
It surprises me that with all the modern advances/technology in things like water heaters, cars, our homes, phones that something as really important like a Rheem WH can be made or handled so should I say carelessly. Are companies putting profits over safety. My Rheem WH would normally go unnoticed in the corner of my garage. How do I know it died? The mass amounts of water that damaged everything in its path. These past few days have been eye-opening at the very least.
Who knows how many others go through what I went through without the same results because the plumbers are not cooperative or you can’t get hold of Rheem to file a claim or be told that it’s not the product, it’s a problem with your home. Any reason not to be responsible for paying a claim or doing the right thing. Sounds about right about now. In the end, I got my water heater replaced and Thanks HD and HD plumbers for helping me resolve this home emergency. They really made the process as inconvenient as possible. Rheem was just late to the party.
