We bought a New Condo, all New Maytag appliances with a 10 yr. warranty, the microwave is a built-in model. I can't believe we've only been here a year and eight months and it just stop working. We use it for heating and short timed cooking like 1 to 2 minutes. I would think a name brand product would last a lot longer than this. I had an off brand microwave for five years before the condo. A couple of times the microwave door didn't close, I thought I forgot to close it. But after reading your reviews I now realize it's one of the defects of the product. I called the Maytag company, they informed me that if a serviceman come out to fix it, it will cost me $180 until they can determine if the cause is something covered by their warranty??? The Home Builders bought Maytag junk and passed us the cost, now Maytag wants me to pay to see if their junk can be fixed??? Wow!!! This is unbelievable!

Bought and installed 2016. The door not staying latched WHEN OPERATING began same year. So had to make sure to triple check door before operation. Then in 2017 the stupid thing keeps coming on by itself. We'd be sitting in the living room and hear it come on! Now it is unplugged. What a disappointment from such a well known company. I guarantee the replacement will NOT be a Maytag.

Model number MMV4205. Purchased this microwave on 1/28/2017 and had to schedule a repair for the Open/Close Door malfunction almost immediately. This issue has been on and off for the entire year and in most cases seems to resolve itself within 24 hours. Two days ago it became suddenly much worse and the microwave is unusable. A repair technician is scheduled to come out next week so that will be a total of 7 days without use of microwave. The warranty is up at the end of this month. Very disappointed in Maytag and will never purchase another Maytag appliance in the future.

Bought a Maytag microwave model MMV4205DS and I too have had an issue with open/close door display. Just like other reviews I've read it started out once in a while for the first year then began happening more often til it stopped working by the second year. I also read someone asking why there isn't a class action lawsuit? Good question. Way too many bad reviews on same issue. If I knew how and if we could start one then I would. Thought we could trust a company that's been around for so many years. Wish we had check into it more and I have learned from other products to do just that from now on. Have a backup microwave by GE from WalMart we've had for 10 yrs still working.

Purchased a Maytag OTR microwave in May of 2017. Started having issues with the Open/Close Door malfunction by September. Repair came out and essentially told us to keep opening and closing until it worked. It is January 2018 and the issue has gotten worse. My question is, since Maytag is keenly aware of the problem and has for years, based on other reviewers on here, why hasn't a class action lawsuit been filed? These appliances are expensive and it sounds like many of us have been taken to the cleaners!

I bought the product thinking Maytag - should last a long time. Sadly I was wrong. Bought the microwave from Home Depot in May, 2016 and had it installed by them. The product worked fine for the first 14 months. In fact I thought it was great. It was quiet, heated things quickly - a great product. In July, 2017 I started having problems. The product would start. I was getting a message to 'Close the door' to start the microwave, even though it was closed. When this would happen I noticed that when the door was open, the light wouldn't come on. It would require multiple open/close until finally the light would come on (when door was open). Only then, when I closed the door would the microwave operated as it should. I lived with this inconvenience until Dec, 2017. Of course - over the holidays is when it decided to quit working entirely.
I did my digging and found problems with the switches. I replaced 1 switch - still didn't work. The cost to have a repairman come out is ridiculous (Sears wants $250). My frustration was growing and my confidence in the product was waning. So time to get another microwave. I was done. Frustration and anger doesn't begin to describe my feelings. I went with another brand. It isn't installed yet, it should happen this week. In the future I will tell friends to avoid Maytag microwaves. Apparently they just don't last. I realize this isn't a top of the line microwave, I only spent $299 (plus tax, installation...) but really - shouldn't it last more than 14 months before it starts giving me problems? Very disappointed!!!

So we bought the whole Maytag kitchen appliance FZ (fingerprint resistant) series suite. That was such a mistake! I'd give the part numbers but I think this applies to Maytag in general as it sounds like all of their appliances suck. Ours are 1½ year old and I already want new ones. Over $3,600 for junk. We knew it was no Viking or Sub Zero but didn't expect to flush $4k down the toilet either.
The microwave is an over the range type and we have it vented to the outside of the house. The vent works like crap to remove the steam when you have a large pot of water boiling on the stove top. I can put the fan on high and barely any steam goes up the vent, most of it ends up soaking the microwave door to the point where I have to towel it off. The vent will hold up a paper towel so I know it's pulling air but the location of the vent in relationship to the large front burners makes it useless. And the self cleaning is as others have already stated - A joke.
We bought the fingerprint resistant SS and I would rather have the fingerprints than all of the scratches. Today, and this is no BS, I had a lottery ticket on the fridge under a magnet and I pulled the ticket because I wanted to check the numbers, well I slid the paper about 4 inches while it was still on the fridge under the magnet and now we have these fine scratches everywhere I did this. It wasn't the magnet because it has a felt backer on it, I took the paper off and slid the magnet all over the place, no scratching. I can't believe a piece of paper would even leave a mark at all. This is aside from some larger scratches that someone in the house must have used a feather duster on it or something.
The French door fridge is loud and the ice maker is huge! The slide out basket in the freezer always gets cockeyed and stuck like it's coming off the track. To line up the door tops you have to adjust the feet on the bottom of the fridge. I have to put ours out of level to get the door tops to line up, well this makes it look terrible in the cabinet space so you have to make a choice of what is uglier - that's just bad engineering. Our old fridge (GE) you could adjust the doors right on the bottom of the door. It's like they forgot this and said, "Well you can just tip it one way or another to get them to line up, ya let's put that in the manual." The dishwasher sucks, plan on rinsing everything, even the silverware doesn't come clean. No it's not our water.
We are so disappointed in this brand which used to be considered very good, what the heck happened? Ship manufacturing over to China? And another thing, I highly doubt this is stainless steel. I know there is ferritic and martensitic stainless that are magnetic but I'd bet all of my appliances that this is just regular carbon sheet steel with some coating on it to give a stainless steel look. All except for the range, that is different and doesn't scratch like the fridge, microwave, and dishwasher. Not sure why but probably has to do with the heat so they couldn't use this junk coating, just a guess though. Anyway it doesn't matter, all of the appliances are a complete waste of money. Poor design, poor performance, poor durability, pure junk!

Less than 2 years old model MMV5219DH started saying door wasn't closed. Called & they said only the microtron was covered. Then a day later the whole thing doesn't work. Looked at all the reviews and find this is a common problem and that Maytag no longer makes a good product and does not stand by their so called 10 year limited warranties. Also that Whirlpool & Frigidaire all also made by them. Will not buy any of them again.

We purchased this product (Maytag OTR Microwave/hood) Mar. 2016, along with a bunch of other Maytag appliances (so that they match). One year in, we got the infamous open/close door error. It's a pain, and I was thinking of replacing the sensors. HOWEVER, the darn thing went ** up a few days ago! NOTHING works. It is like it is unplugged. We've checked the breakers and the plug in. All of that is fine. Why is it that the Wal-Mart Microwave I bought for $50 nearly 20 years ago still works like a charm? This is a real lemon. STAY AWAY!!!

I have just joined the open and close the door Maytag Club. Purchased four Maytag products on Black Friday 2017 as I always trusted Maytag. Only disappointed to have my microwave (MMV4205D-4) come down with the virus (open & close door) that has plagued so many unsuspected owners. Almost made its 1st year anniversary. Now I see this has been going on for years and all they do is add different model numbers at the end. Luckily I'm in the 1 year warranty and repairman coming next week. Now I question if I should take the extended warranty as I see this is going to happen again down the road. And will the extended warranty cover it? Guess the Maytag repairman isn't sitting and waiting for repair call anymore. He is being kept busy!

I, too, am absolutely done with ANYthing Maytag. We purchased our Maytag microwave model MMV4205DS-1 in January of 2016. Within the first year we experienced occasional "open/close door" issues due to the faulty door latch switches. Now it happens virtually all of the time. The "ten year warranty" is a joke; it is just a come-on designed to deliver a false sense of security that Maytag will indeed stand behind their worthless products when in fact they won't. I am so disgusted with them.

I bought my microwave in Nov of 2015. We began having problems in April 2017. When you cook or warm something up it gets hot. The light won't come on and the display continues to say open/close door. After about 4 hours of cool down time it may or may not restart. After contacting Maytag I was told I should have purchased the warranty. They also informed me that they do not have repairman in my area. We have just replaced all appliances with Maytag so now I am concerned they are all junk. We did buy warranties on the major appliances, but how will they repair with no repairman in my area.
Maytag used to be the best appliances but after this experience and now I have a broken microwave after only a year and a half that they don't stand behind, I will never purchase any Maytag again. It also seems that this is not the only issue they are having with their microwaves. I have contacted my Lowe's where we purchased and they even made a Maytag call with no results. Maybe the suppliers should stop promoting and selling their items. We replaced a 22 yr old Kenmore microwave that was still working that's why this is so heart breaking. Stand behind your products. No wonder you don't have repairman. They would never get a day off from repairing your junk.

Under no circumstances should anyone buy an MMV4205DE or maybe any Maytag microwave. These units contain defective door switches and will fail within a year rendering the unit useless. The engineer that got the bright idea to protect us from starting the microwave without opening and closing the door along with the engineer that designed the defective switch scheme should be fired immediately.
I purchased the unit March 2016 to replace a 10-year-old Maytag that had a failed magnetron, no problems ever with the door switches! This unit started to act up in Dec 2016 with the fatal open/close door problem, I am an EE so I opened the unit and checked the switches and found they were defective, replaced both for $80 and 6 months later the problem is back. I am buying another brand as I don't have time to deal with the problems with this unit. I now have the old white 15-year-old unit that I replaced years ago sitting on the counter to use while another unit is on order. Unit is heading for the landfill next month. Never buy a Maytag microwave, they all have the same problems!!!

Do not purchase this microwave! I checked the reviews and thought they couldn't all have the same problem. THEY DO! This Maytag Microwave MMV4205DS1 has some faulty switch in the door latch mechanism. The warranty repair company came and adjusted the switches... and then fully replaced the switches. Each time it worked for about 30-60 days and then the same error would repeat itself. Never resolved... buying a different microwave. Be sure to check all reviews for repetitive complaints.
This microwave will NOT function AT ALL with the 'door open/close' message. Here are the details of our microwave. Purchased from Home Depot December 2015. First experienced the open/close door message around June 2016 (6 months after purchase). With the open/close door message, the interior light will not come on, the keypad will accept entries but will give the open/close door message as soon as start is pressed. Repaired under warranty August 2016. Repairman tightened and replaced one of the two fuses behind the metal plate. Also moved the door connectors as far as they would go to help with the door sensor issue.
Worked until mid-December. Same message reappeared. Called repair company. Still under warranty. He order new switch parts and installed in January 2017. Microwave worked for 2 months. Then same exact door/open close message. Called repair company. Since we do not have an extended warranty, the parts would be covered but not the labor. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MICROWAVE or any other microwave that has reviews listing a "door open/close" issue. It will not go away! ...and you will be very frustrated.

In April 17, 2015, I purchased another Maytag microwave but wanted the convection oven too from Home Depot. The convection fan quit working in January 2017. I called Maytag to ask how this was covered. Maytag only has 1 year warranty on parts and labor. So basically if you don't buy an extended warranty, you are stuck with a product that quits working. Apparently, Maytag's work is only good for 1 year or they would have a longer warranty. I told the Rep this when I spoke to him. He told me they normally last 5-7 years. Wow, still not acceptable. He said I had two options. Maytag could send out a repairman and it would cost almost $300. The other option was just as ridiculous. I told him I paid almost $500 to start with and it only lasted 21 months.
Of course he said if I had bought extended warranty it would have helped. If I paid $500 for an oven, why should I have to pay more to cover their bad workmanship?!! I am very disappointed in the quality and price of this convection oven. The bad thing is I bought all new Maytag stainless steel appliances in 2016 to match the convection oven. The products I replaced had been in my home for 12 years with no problems.

We constantly get the open/door message when we are trying to set the timer for operation. Calls to the store where we purchased it do no good - "you have to call Maytag." We got 6 months use out of a Maytag microwave which we paid EXTRA to have installed. At this point I don't want it fixed. I want it replaced. The Maytag brand used to stand for durability and integrity; now it stands for badly made products and pathetic customer service. Product number MMV4205DS. Beautiful, felt solid. Right away when we would put in a time to cook and hit start, the thing would say "Open Close Door". First we thought it was moisture, and we would wipe the seal, then lifting the door a little helped. A month might go by and we would repeat this process. I did a little research and found the microwave is known for this. After the warranty was up, it got worse. My husband put a little screwdriver in the door clamp. The plastic guard that held the door shut fell behind the opening.
Mulling over whether to call for repairs or buy a new one, we decided the latter. I am buying another one just like it, because the holes in the wall will match for an easy swap and it matches my suite. This time I took out the 3 year warranty, which I will hold Maytag responsible for any more problems. They say if they come and fix it 4 times in a year they will declare it a lemon and replace. I figure this will work in my favor because the microwave lasts a year!

Bought a new Maytag Over the stove model Microwave from Lowe's. It worked fine for a while. Then it started saying "open close door." We opened the door and closed it, and sometimes it would work. This went on for a while till it finally would not work at all. Called for repair, the service guy came and took it apart and one of the door switches needed adjusting. He left and it was working, good deal. 2 days later open close door started all over again. We found if we lifted the door when closing it, then it would work sometimes, until one day it would no longer work. We called for another appointment, and got a new company to fix it called ABCO. The service guy showed up and tightened a screw and it worked again, said the other service guy might have forgot to tighten it down. I tried it and it worked. We did not touch it again till next morning and back to open close door again.
Called ABCO back and got a new service time for Wednesday next week. Wednesday came and went, called to see why no show. They said we were not on the service list and "we're very sorry." So we set up a new time for them to show the following week Tuesday between 12 and 3 pm. At 3:49 they called and said sorry, but they were not going to be able to make it today. I told her then get us tomorrow and was told they were very busy and maybe Thursday would be better. I told her we were in line and and should get service before others that came on later. Her reply was maybe Monday of next week was better. After the runaround she said they would try for Wednesday tomorrow, but no promise made. After that I called Maytag direct and they said nothing they could do except make another service appointment.
She told me I could get a service appointment tomorrow Wednesday between 8 and 12am or 12 and 3pm. I asked with who this time and was told ABCO who just told me they were too busy to show up tomorrow and had put me on standby. In the meantime I paid over $300 for the Maytag microwave that is never going to need service because the Maytag service man is so lonely. And bought a $ 200 Panasonic counter model so we could have a working microwave. So now we are in over $500 and still no Maytag working microwave.
They did send me a letter offering me a discount on extended service plan if I want one. I told them it would be cheaper after the one year runs out under warranty, to just junk the microwave because it has cost me way more in wasted time, waiting for the lonely Maytag repairman to show up. Bottom line do not buy a Maytag Microwave model MMV4205DS-1 unless you just want a good looking decoration over your stove with a nice light, and have plenty of time waiting for the lonely Maytag repairman.

I was told this was a 'cosmetic' warranty which expired after 30 days. They would fix it only if the microwave couldn't be opened. Apparently, the handle can become loose but as long as the door opens, they won't do anything.
I bought Maytag because of their supposed reputation. I'm so glad this happened with my $300 microwave as we were getting ready to replace our washer and dryer and were looking at Maytags. We purchased an entire suite of Maytag kitchen appliances in September 2014 at a cost of $4300. Have had problems with every single item. The MMV5219DH microwave was the first issue. After a year it began to give us erroneous display messages when we tried to use it. We would input the number of minutes we wanted the food to cook, and we'd get a message saying CHK TIME/OPEN DOOR. Repeated door closings, resets of the time, etc. did nothing. Sometimes if we hit "cancel" it would work - other times not. We'd push every button on the keyboard and eventually we'd get it to work - perhaps 10 minutes later. When I called the appliance store (Vic's Appliances in Saco Maine) I was told to unplug it for an hour. Okay, that corrected the issue - for a few days.
When the problem continued, sometimes unplugging it had no effect - other times it did. Eventually we figured out if we didn't reset the clock time it would work most of the time (not 100%). The Maytag refrigerator began to malfunction at the same time (not keeping temp, and the ice in the icemaker melting and refreezing in a big lump that blocked the door water/ice dispenser) so we called Vic's again and set up a service call. Serviceman reset the microwave to "factory specs" and we will see what happens. He also reset the fridge to different temps, and 2 days after his visit it has again melted the ice in the icemaker and formed a blob at the bottom. DO NOT BUY MAYTAG!!!

I wish I would have googled the model before purchase was made. When the warranty expires, this will go to the curb too.
Also, purchased Maytag Neptune Washer and Dryer from Best Maytag, Rockford. The dryer had problems with the circuit board after a short time. Too expensive to replace. Took two weeks to send a repairman out, he came out and of course did not have the part -- took another week to get it. Fixed the door and then he crashed and burned the microwave shorted it out and now it is totally dead. That was 2 1/2 weeks ago. Maytag refuses to replace the microwave and insists that the same incompetent service company come out and fix it.
Meanwhile I have to call Maytag every other day to find out when the correct part to repair the microwave will be in. Was told it would be in two days ago. Never got a call to schedule the repair, called today to find out they never even ordered the part. Here goes another week without my microwave. Not only does Maytag have horrible customer service, they manage to find unskilled repair techs with equally horrible customer service! Will never ever buy another May "useless" Tag appliance again.

So she gave me a bulb for microwaves and it too burned out. So I called service and she said because I purchased it in 2013 it's 6 months past due on warranty but hemmed and hawed, wondering if I would have to pay a technician to come out, and said it could be a fuse or some wiring issues. Hmmm, good to know. I hope that is all I have problems with. I purchased fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave with them. Also have dryer but no problems with that. I've read many reviews of other people having only 2-3 years of tube life. I would buy another brand, but saw that Maytag is now offering a 10 year warranty. First time we used the microwave the wife did not cover the food and a little splattered onto the door glass (plastic to be correct). The microwave promptly heated the splatter on the door plastic and melted a hole in the plastic. Now whenever we use the microwave the whole door fills with condensation and fogs up. This makes no sense at all, the inside layer is plastic and the outside layer is glass??? Our old Kenmore microwave is glass on the inside and plastic on the outside, never had a problem.

The washing machine failures resulted in major flood damage two separate times due to two separate failures. Then all of a sudden when you set the timer and pushed the start button it would flash on and immediately shut off. Now, six months after that, the layers of plastic on the door are separating and the piece around the control panel is cracked. Maytag agreed to replace the control panel but refuse to replace the door as it is only cosmetic (their words). So much for paying a little extra for what we thought would be a quality product. In late March or early April 2010, I purchased a Maytag Microwave from Sears in Ocean, New Jersey. The microwave was installed by Sears technicians on April 9, 2010. The total price for the microwave and installation was $356.53. I specifically purchased the Maytag brand because of Maytag's longstanding reputation for quality products with long lifespans.
On October 5, 2014, the microwave became inoperative and displayed a code of SE. On or about October 9, 2014, I contacted Maytag Customer Experience Center, via email, and advised them of this problem. I also wrote to Maytag explaining the situation. On October 15, 2014, I was advised via email that, as my warranty had expired, any repairs were my responsibility. I requested that my email be forwarded to Maytag's CEO for consideration and review and was advised on October 20, 2014 that a Maytag supervisor would call me within two to three business days (of October 20th). After a follow up letter to the CEO, I was again advised on October 28, 2014, that the microwave was out of warranty and any repairs were my responsibility.
I should add that I contacted Maytag Repair Service and was advised that the price of the repair far exceeded the price of the microwave. I feel that four years is not the expected lifespan of a microwave, especially a Maytag, and can only conclude that the Maytag microwave which I purchased was defective. I have purchased less expensive microwaves that have lasted for at least ten years. I got absolutely nowhere with Maytag personnel, found them to be curt and dismissive and would NOT purchase another Maytag product nor would I recommend them. Buyer Beware!! Purchased my Maytag over the range microwave in May of 2014. It has a manufacture date of Feb. 2014, and it is now Sept. 2014. It is a very nice looking unit but a bit oversized. My handyman that installed it had to raise my cabinets above my stove two inches to avoid it being too close to the range. The motor is pretty loud and It often times does not heat evenly. The light on the unit that shines down on the range is not much better than the power of a night light which is a bit disappointing considering it looks like a higher end unit, and down to the reason I am writing this review today is that for the first time I went to change the bulb.
I unscrewed the the light cover which is placed awkwardly toward the very very back of the unit, only to find that when I went to twist out the burnt out bulb (that has been in there since I purchased the unit) that the bulb broke off after hearing what sounded like the break of a seal of glue, and the bottom aluminum piece of the bulb is stuck in the bulb socket. I found that the bulb is placed in an awkward place behind the light cover. Instead of the bulb facing to the left or the right or to the front of the unit it is facing toward the back which is making the bulb socket impossible to see, which means that in order to screw in the bulb you are screwing it in from an angle that you cannot see unless you climb on the range and lay on your back, or get a mirror to help see where you are screwing in the bulb. This is just a very awkward and unpractical design coming from such a well known company with such a common and ordinary product.
Now I am sitting here writing this review and I am trying to figure out how I can remove that little piece of aluminum stuck in the light bulb socket and since it is not facing to the left or right and facing toward the back, it leaves me about less than 1/2" space to work with using my hand or a tool to remove that piece, or I can just leave my broken bulb piece in there and screw the cover back on until I call service for Maytag. I believe it is still under warranty but from others experience that I have read about I am not feeling confident I will receive great service or a desirable outcome. Wish me the best!! Thanks for listening!!

I have tried to troubleshoot via the instructions that came with the microwave, i.e. Check the demo mode is not on. Don't know why after 3 yrs it would be, but checked it. No help. Pulled the plug out and replaced; turned breaker on and off; checked to see if it's was locked. Nothing. I then checked the door and I found that the plastic inside panel on the latching side of the door is pulling away from the door itself, which is part of the locking system. The magnetron shouldn't work if the door system isn't closing properly. The latch system is what is causing the door to pull apart.
I am wondering now how much microwave exposure my family has been getting from a malfunctioning door? I have had a Microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator made by Maytag in the past. When I called Maytag, they told me that it was either the control panel or mother board and that they could not do anything because the warranty was only for 1 year... and didn't offer me anything to make good on this...
NOW three years later, my microwave is displaying error code SE.. control panel is bad. Now I have not had a working dishwasher for two years and this just added salt to my wound. I called Maytag furious that this keeps happening with new products. The only thing they would offer to do is for me to purchase an extended warranty at $350.00 and they would have a repair guy fix the microwave. A brand new microwave would cost the same thing???? I am just now removing the panel to see what's going on in the inside so I can replace whatever broken part is broken. The double oven I have I've had to repair twice. Once I had to replace a capacitor on the board because it blew. It cost me zero to replace it as I have an old home theater system I part out. The next item was the control pad itself which I tried to repair but had to replace for $200.
The dishwasher died after 6 years of use and after replacing the control pad (couldn't be repaired), it still didn't work. And I got a replacement from my wife's dad who was moving and had to get rid of his. Ultimate timing. I purchased a Maytag refrigerator instead of a Samsung like an idiot (which I suppose I am at this point). The fridge leaks water because the drain plug is jammed and it will take a lot of work to get back there to unjam it. I think Maytag wants to sell you expensive parts that are doomed to break after a couple years of normal use. They want to send repair guys out to your house to charge you to fix their junk. One year ago I bought a Maytag Micro-wave and a Maytag dishwasher - big mistake. I should have done some homework. I had problems with the dishwasher since the day it was installed. I should have suspected something was wrong when it was delivered. I opened my front door and there stood a deliveryman holding my dishwasher in his arms. He said, "Where do you want it?" I couldn't believe he could be carrying it by himself, especially since it took three of us to move out the old Thermador which by the way was still working just fine after almost 30 years. But my wife insisted on a new washer for her new kitchen.
The Thermador was actually made of steel. The new Maytag was made of plastic even the motor. It had some steel and copper parts but mostly plastic. I don't think it weighed forty pounds. The problems began the first day with leaks through the door and under it. I suppose eight or nine service calls happened in the next 3 months. The factory service men were different each time and each had their own guess as to what caused the leaks. Over time they replaced all the parts that could be leaking some of them twice, because subsequent servicemen discovered that a previous service man had installed the wrong parts. We often had to wait several weeks because replacement parts were not on hand, and would be ordered and shipped directly to us.
Then we would have to schedule another service call, only to find out the wrong parts came - more delays. One service man told us we were using the wrong detergent, even though it was the detergent and spot-free rinse that came with it. Another service man removed the door cover so he could watch to see where it was leaking when it operated. He said the soap was foaming too much and flooding over, so we had to try another brand of soap, even though by now we had accumulated three other brands that were just barely used. The service men never did fix the problem. It took much experimentation from my wife to stop the leaks, which meant we could only use a fraction of the recommended amount soap. By now we were using so little soap that the dishes always came out dirty. So our choice was mop up a wet floor or have dirty dishes every time.
Most of the time now we wash the dishes in the sink. One service man said in Maytag's effort to make the dishwashers more efficient, and less expensive to build that the motor and pump were way under powered, and everything was made from petro-chemical by-products (cheap plastic) and that we should invest in the extended warranty. It's cheaper than paying service calls when the warranty runs out soon. What we should have done was exchanged it for another brand. My wife said had she only known, we would have never replaced the old Thermador which will be my next dishwasher. As for the micro-wave there are many things I dislike about it especially the rectangle glass tray which is extremely awkward to remove and replace each time you have to clean out crumbs and spills which happen often.
The timer on/off bell is way too quiet with no volume control. The message and operation display is difficult to understand. And to top it off the cheap plastic handle broke one week after the warranty ran out which I found out that it's less expensive to buy a whole new door than pay for parts and a service call to repair handle. Maytag's track record made me not want to deal with service dept. again. I will probably be money ahead to trash the two appliances, start over and do some homework and maybe buy a European made appliance. I know German technology is not all about profit making, but quality, reliability, durability. I hate to sound un-American but greed in American corporations will be their downfall.

It just recently completely fell off completely-snapping at both ends. I am calling Maytag and attempting to have it repaired. I am otherwise very pleased with this appliance. I have had other microwaves for many years without this happening. I'm hoping they will agree to repair.

I purchased a Maytag over the range microwave a couple of years ago when I had my kitchen remodeled. I have had it repaired twice already. Each time, it cost over $150. I bought this product with confidence that it was a quality product. To say the least, I am very disappointed and I will never buy this brand again. My previous microwave lasted over 15 years without a single problem. The only reason that I got rid of it was to have matching appliances. It was not a Maytag. I am looking to buy a new microwave and I will be sure to look at the reviews to prevent being suckered again!

I've had my Maytag microwave (MMV4203DS00) for a little over two years. I started getting SE error code. The control touch pad membrane is shorted out. I suspect because the design doesn't allow it to be an over-the-range even though that's the kind of microwave it is! I think the humidity from the burners shorted out the membrane. I called the company and the part would cost approximately $180 for me to fix myself. I have a really hard time believing that one part of a $200 microwave costs $180. Ridiculous. It appears this microwave is designed to fail. Customer service was rude and snarky. The company doesn't appear to stand behind their product. Maytag used to mean something. I had started to replace all my kitchen appliances - microwave, then stove. I thought I'd be consistent and buy Maytag based on their reputation. I will never buy Maytag again.

My Maytag microwave MMV4205BAB gave out this a.m...again. I bought it in 2008. The repairman has become a close personal friend because he visits so often. In Jan. 2012, I bought an extended warranty, which expired in Jan 2013. This is the best example of planned obsolescence I've ever seen. In the winter of 2007, we remodeled our kitchen and bought all new Maytag appliances. They cost a little more but we felt that we were getting a good quality product. Within months, the handle on the freezer became loose and I had to call for a repairman to tighten it. He told me we should buy the extended warranty because only a trained repairman could fix the handle. That turned out to be untrue thankfully because if it was true, I would have to call for repair at least once a month. The handle is constantly coming loose. A few months later, the microwave would turn on when the door was closed. I called repair as it was still under warranty. After he removed and replaced the door, I was told that we have to be careful when we close the microwave. There was nothing he could do to stop the problem. Approximately three years after we purchased the appliances, we had a problem with the dishwasher. We could only use one function; the others would not work.
We were told by the technician that we got water into the door where the controls are and ruined the motherboard. I never heard anything so absurd. I have had a dishwasher in the same place for 25 years with no mishap. The cost of repair was $800. A few months later, we had a problem with the large burner on our cooktop. The outer coils heat up but the inner coils do not. I have yet to call for repair because I do not trust Maytag. Now, our microwave does not work. My husband used it to make popcorn with no problem. A little while later, I tried to heat a cup of coffee and it would not heat. The keypad works, the light comes on in the microwave but the motor does not run. Needless to say, we are very unhappy and will never buy another Maytag appliance. I wish I would have read the reviews before we purchased the appliances. Two of our friends had their kitchens remodeled at the same time we did and they have not had any problems with their appliances. But they didn't buy Maytag. I guess that's why.

I'm furious beyond belief with Maytag. I'm furious at myself for being stupid enough to purchase all new Maytag appliances when I purchased this home as I had horrible experiences with them in my former home. This concerns the Maytag over the range microwave oven model MMV4205AA. First of all, within 6 or 7 months after purchasing it while cooking a frozen dinner, the turntable just cracked in half. Maytag wanted $89 to replace it. I knew when the turntable cracked that there were more issues to come. That is not normal in any way for that to occur in a microwave.
Problems continued, of course, and with each call to Maytag, they would say the same thing "the microwave is out of warranty" and refused to assist me. It's not some little table top thing that one can just toss out and buy a new one. I paid about $400 for it from Home Depot. Last week, without it even being turned on, it just stopped working. I checked the electrical supply and conduit to make sure that was okay. I called numerous service organizations who told me this sudden breakdown when the microwave isn't even turned on is a known issue with this model and several other Maytag over the range models. I've called them (Maytag) three times in the last week and they refuse to provide any allowance and hear the same old thing, "the microwave is out of warranty."
I was willing to have them even just provide some assistance rather than replace the microwave. I've been told by numerous service organizations that this is a known issue and that even if they repair it, it will occur again and again and I'm best off purchasing a different brand, which I cannot afford. They gave me phone numbers for service organizations authorized to service Maytag products and this just goes to show how out of touch they are. They gave me one that isn't even in business anymore. How professional, not!
Warning: Purchase Maytag at your own risk. I give you fair warning. Every single Maytag product I've ever owned has been a problem. I will never, ever, ever purchase another Maytag product again. I would think just out of decent customer relations, that they'd repair this issue. To be honest, I don't really trust a repair as I've been told it will happen again and again. There was no notice that the microwave was breaking down either. It wasn't turned on. One day, I went to use it and it just wouldn't work. Actually, I went to use the timer on it and that's how I found out it was dust. My advice is stay away from Maytag. If you read reports, there are more complaints on Maytag than any other appliance manufacturer in existence. Not only on their products, but their customer service too.

I bought 4 appliances - stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. Just after 1 year, our dishwasher stopped working. Serviceman said it was the motherboard. I had to talk with a supervisor in customer service to get it covered and found that it was only a switch that was bad. Next, our ice maker overflowed with water, causing damage to our new hardwood floor. Again, I had to talk with a supervisor to get this covered and I did not file a claim for the floor. Then, our stove shut down. Repairman found that a wire was shoved into the top box, causing them to be exposed and shorting out the system. Now 2 years and 4 months, our microwave is not heating and I have to call for service. This was a brand-new kitchen that was remodeled and all appliances were new.
I am very disgusted with Maytag products and their attitude of "We are sorry, but there is nothing we can do as the warranty has expired." It used to be 3-year warranties for Maytag products until they were bought out. Never will I buy their products again. Have been married 40 years, and our other appliances for 38 years never failed and to find that these products are made in the USA.

Okay, on March 2009, we bought this brand new microwave due to our major remodeling. We didn't move into the unit until February 2010, so the microwave was in its box for 11 months. After we moved in our condo, my husband and I had to travel for work for almost a year so our brand new microwave is very slightly, gently and barely used. Well, for the past 2 months, it had been acting up. Sometimes it heats, sometime it doesn't. For a 2 year old microwave, which we paid over $400, I would assume that it would last. It no longer heats up, so I called Maytag customer service to hear her tell me it's not covered under the warranty and would cost $269 for repairs and there was nothing she can do for me unless I pay for a technician to come and repair it! No way, I swear it probably got used 5-10 times a month to heat up coffee for about a year.
I am sure there are some major quality issues on this model because when I googled Maytag microwave, all I see is the same magnetic problems. I spoke to a group of my lawyers friends. If you're interested in joining a class act law suit, please e-mail me. I hate that people are being taken advantage of by these terrible companies. I can't believe how low quality their customer service and products are. Believe it or not, my $30, old microwave lasted me 14 years throughout my college years until we decided to replace it with the modern stainless steel one. It got noisier in time but not broken and still heats up just fine. This $400+ one lasted me only for several uses. Shame on Maytag, when I have time, I will be sure to write a complaint to the consumer department as well. I will dedicate my life in spreading the word out about their low quality product. I made a family brand name dinner for six in the original black carton, put the rack into the microwave, followed all the directions as the microwave was new. The carton melted inside and burned a place where the rack had rested. This melted before the time was up. I had followed all the directions. This was the first incident that was a problem.
Next incident was a large bag of popcorn (microwave has two settings for popcorn--large or small). This burned the bag black before the allowed automatic setting.
Third incident was another bag of popcorn, which resulted to a fire. I tried putting it out with a large lid, which now has permanent black smoke stains. The fire was so hot I could not remove the popcorn bag. I had to use two pancake spatulas to throw it outside where it continued to have flames and burned itself out.
The next fire was with a baked potato. This was set for a regular potato setting. This fire was great flames. I tried putting this out with salt and a pan lid. I also removed it with a large metal strainer, an Asian type which is large, and used another spatula to scoop the flaming potato and took it outside while it continued to burn.
This time the microwave burned itself out. All lights would not function so I unplugged it from the outlet. I have repeatedly told Ava that I had previously owned a Kenmore convection microwave and the only time I used the rack was when I baked something. She continued to ignore this and said that I used the rack to make popcorn, baked potato, etc.

I called Maytag to let them know that this occurred. They stated that we could have service but it would cost a flat fee of $145.00. I stated that this was not reasonable as another brand that is new costs $145 or a little more. She laughed and said, "Oh well."
I asked my husband to take the microwave down and open it to see if there was anything we could identify that might be unusual. As we began to take it down, we then got upset again because the microwave would pass for a new one because of the little usage. I then called Maytag and asked for a manager since I was very upset that a product that was rarely used was not working in such a short time.
Of course, there was no resolution. Apparently, Maytag does not care if they have bad press. I looked online and found all of the complaints against this company. It is ridiculous that someone isn't shutting them down. They are not customer centric, nor do they make a decent product. I will let all know how horrible the service and Maytag products are. They are crap and they don't care.
I ordered a different microwave brand. I will never purchase a Maytag. I have already let two people know of the complaints, poor quality and the poor customer service they have and directed them to another manufacturer.
Goodbye Maytag! Good riddance!

This microwave was only used to reheat food, defrost meats, pop popcorn or make baked potatoes. I called Maytag on Nov. 22 to inform them of the problem but was told that I should have purchased the extended warranty.
To add insult, the representative said, no manager would talk to me. Finally, on Nov. 25 it started a loud humming noise while defrosting a pack of ground beef. I stop it then removed the of meat, however, it continue making a loud humming for five minutes then it went completely black. We are out of $225 for this piece of crap. We want our money refunded, a replacement product of choosing and free installation plus extended warranty. By the way, we have another microwave that is twenty years old but it works.

Well I have received a letter from you. Maytag had I think informed you about my problem but I have not been contacted. My Maytag microwave shorted out and caught my kitchen on fire. It burned the microwave so bad that I couldn’t tell the info on it. I my stove was also a Maytag was part of the fire. And my countertop was damaged. Maytag called me a few times and left messages they wanted info like model numbers the numbers had been so damaged I couldn’t give them that. Plus they wanted to look at them. I couldn’t keep them I had thrown them out right after the fire. I have all the pictures of everything after the fire.

We purchased a new Maytag microwave from Home Depot along with a new range and dishwasher. All three Maytag brands were purchased at the same time to remodel our kitchen. So far, we have had a recall on the dishwasher that needed to be fixed. The turntable in the microwave stopped working and now the microwave stopped working all together. When you turn it on, it makes a horrible noise and pops. Scared to use it now. Just wondering when the range is going to go south on us. No more Maytag in this family for sure.

Purchased over counter microwave, Model #MMV1153AAB. High voltage transformer problem. Sparks flew, smoke rose and heat was generated. My wife frantically turned it off. Called Maytag (corporate) and after various delays as per usual, we were informed by an operator (name omitted) that we could get 50% off the replacement part (high voltage generator). This was an insult and hard to believe that after I informed them that a product they produce ran the risk of burning my house down, they offered 50% off a part - labor not included of course.
I have sent them an email for further contact, but of course I expect nothing. For a company to have such a callous disregard for the safety of consumer is irresponsible at best. Just think if we had been outside, or had left to run an errand while cooking - we could possibly have had grounds for litigation. Not sure what to do now, so the microwave sits unused and takes up space. Interesting that we have an old Samsung microwave we brought upstairs after about 5 years of collecting dust, and if works just fine! If anyone has any suggestions, we are open to them.
Smoke smell lingered for about a week, wife had issues with the repairman that informed her it would be an extra (over one hundred dollars) to have the part installed.

I bought a Maytag built-in microwave oven on 9/28/09 at my local Home Depot. The model no. was MMV4305BAW, Serial No. 17282692NN. It was recommended by the sales person as a reliable brand and model number. I paid $250 (a discounted sale price) plus I paid my contractor to install it. In December of 2009, it quit heating food. The magnetron tube was replaced. 2 days ago it quit working again. A call to Maytag repair entailed a 20 minute hold-time and then the sympathetic customer service person basically told me that I was out of luck because I did not have an extended warranty. That's weird, because last week I received a renewal notice in the mail (I've hunted high and low and cannot find it).
The extended warranty company tells me they can find no record of my name and telephone number, so I don't exist as far as they are concerned. So, it appears that on an annual basis, I am going to have to pay at least $150 plus labor to have this magnetron tube replaced. I am strongly suspecting that there is something defective about this oven that is causing this tube to keep going out. Home Depot, Maytag and the extended warranty company all claim no responsibility.

I called Maytag twice regarding my Maytag microwave oven (model MMV4205BAS). I had a service rep look at the microwave because it was no longer heating. I only had it less than two years. The magnetron was the problem and needs to be replaced. You would think that the main component that heats your food would last longer than under two years. The initial service call was $100. Then, when I called the number in their manual (which is not Maytag), I was told that the best they could do was send me a part for a discounted price of $141 plus shipping.
I called Maytag to see what they could do for me and I was on hold for at least 1/2 hour. Once someone answered, she said she had to check the warranty information, which I told her it was no longer under warranty. About 5 minutes later, she came back and apologized for keeping me on hold but that her computer went down. This is in the middle of the day. She was trying to turn it back on and didn't have any luck. Her suggestion to me was for me to wait another hour and call back again. Boy, what service. Now, in order to get anywhere, I have to start the whole thing all over again. Then she had the nerve to ask me if there was anything else she could do for me? I got nowhere and nothing was done.

I purchased a Maytag microwave model MMV4205BAS manufactured July 2008, in Malaysia. We noticed that the vent fan did not have much draw power. The service technician looked at the microwave and said it was a sensor and he reset it. The vent fan worked better.
The second thing that happened was the vent fan again lost drawing power and ran real low even on high speed. At the same time, the digital display screen started vibrating wildly back-and-forth. It did this only sometimes. We had the technician out again and of course, it wouldn't do that for him. He did agree however, that the vent fan was not working properly. The service technician indicated new parts would fix it.
The next day, my husband tried to heat up a cup of coffee. The digital display went blank, the microwave stopped heating, the fan and rotation continued, but the microwave would not turn off unless we opened the door. So at that point we unplugged the microwave because we were afraid of a fire.We negotiated with the proprietor and they replaced the microwave with a new one the exact same Maytag model. This isn't the one I wanted after our experience but it was the only one that would fit the space in our new kitchen. All I had to pay was the installation fee which was reduced by the proprietor. The vent fan is much more powerful on this new one but we are in fear this microwave will catch our house on fire.
We felt the proprietor was very fair with us and helpful. However, after our experience with this particular Maytag model we wanted another brand. Unfortunately, the proprietor did not have another brand that fit our space. Therefore it remains to be seen what the outcome will be with the new microwave. The microwave was not usable.

Now, less than two years old, the turntable does not rotate. Wow, we must now keep that TV Maytag technician awfully busy. The turntable does not turn and the food burns along with microsafe dishes. It resulted in using my 15-year old convection microwave, which works just fine.

I purchased a Maytag built-in microwave in July of 2008. A week ago the instrument panel quit functioning. I called a local repair company and told him what was wrong. He said it was the main control board and the cost of the needed part was $184 plus a service call charge. That amounted to more than I paid for the appliance.
This business told me that I should call Maytag directly, which I did. She (the Maytag intake person) said nobody should diagnose a problem without looking at it. So she scheduled me with a company called Fred's here in Cleveland. Someone from that company called and he did the same thing when I described the problem: he diagnosed the problem without coming out and said the charges were the same as the previous company. He said I should have taken out the extended warranty. I am from the old school where I believe it is your responsibility to make a quality product and I should not have to pay extra to ensure that you do. A microwave that lasts less than two years is not a quality product in my estimation.
The solution for me was to buy another microwave from a more reliable company. It was clear that nobody at Maytag was concerned that this was not a reliable product. I will never purchase another Maytag product and I will steer my adult children to another brand when they make appliance purchases.

I purchased $10K of Maytag product from Sears and it was delivered on Oct. 2007. A few weeks ago the Maytag microwave oven sheered off, so I called Sears to obtain a new one and they scheduled a technician. I said while your at it, you can swap the doors round on my Maytag washer and dryer, they said another technician would be required to be booked until repairs can decide if one can do the job. On the day the microwave technician was due, he called and asked if my microwave handle was black or white, I said it was grey, he then checked to see if they had one and then he said you have to buy the whole door for $280 plus call out of $90 plus labor, somewhere close to $400, the microwave cost $500.
So I canceled the call and went to bat with Maytag and Sears, Maytag said though we can't get involved as we have a contract with Sears to keep out of the sales they make of our product. The Sears technician showed up to switch the doors over, and when he looked and poked about he found the doors can't be switched around from left to right hand opening, this despite the fact that Sears sales said it could when I bought them.
Sears said it's my problem and that I should know better, but they would give me a $100 gift certificate for my trouble. So I have to buy a door for $280 plus I paid $90 for technician to come and say he could not do the job, and I get a $100 certificate to spend at Sears, not a discount on my costs, a certificate to buy more. I have told Sears they can get lost, I will pay my statement and cut up my card and I will buy the part from Maytag, if of course I am allowed bearing in mind the exclusive contract Sears have with Maytag.
Did you all know that, and for Sears, who have taken over $50K of my money over the past 20 odd years. No more. Both Maytag and Sears will never see my business again and everyone I know I will steer in an alternate direction. $280 plus tax plus $90 in service charges plus having a washer and dryer which now has to be physically moved and piping and venting changes made, some $400 extra in charges.

I purchased a brand new Maytag microwave hood combination to be installed in a brand new kitchen. I moved in on 12/19 and tried to use first time microwave ran for a couple minutes & went dead, no power lights nothing. I could not return to place of purchase as it had been more than 30 days. I called Maytag who were sending a service man. When they did send service man, they sent him to wrong address so we had to wait another week.
Repairman found its problem was with manufacturing. Some big plug with pins was not set in right and had couple pins bent off to the side. He told us it had just enough connection to power microwave but not the exhaust/cooling fan for the 'magnito' overheated which blew some safety and cut power for safety. The repairman boiled water then a couple times with the metal rack in the microwave. He said it was fixed. We tried to heat rice that evening and set timer for 45 seconds. Within a few seconds, I saw a spark and shut it off. On the rack, we found a hole burnt in the back of the microwave! We had only ran it approximately 15 seconds. The hole had to come from the repairman 10-15 minutes.
I'm upset about a brand new unit malfunction on first use and overheating magnito. I feel the unit should be replaced! Repairman said it is not good on the unit to overheat and stated, "hopefully it won't cause a future problem." Even if it works, we fear a future problem or unit will not wear as it should because of the overheating.

Maytag appliances are not worth the money. Do not believe their product reliability claims. I have a new home with Maytag kitchen appliances, which four failed just a few months past the end of warranty. The built-in $600 microwave failed in warranty two times (one door switch followed by the primary emitter) and finally when it’s out of warranty by two months, again there’s a problem for the emitter. Maytag warranty/service refused to provide any support on repairs. I replaced with a competing brand for less than cost of repairs.
The double oven MEW660DDS ($2600) control panel failed two months out of warranty. The convection oven overheats and goes into the nuclear glowing self-clean mode while baking or broiling. Maytag again refuses to support product failure and wants $800 to repair. The dishwasher latch/handle mechanism broke. After reading this was a common problem, I replaced the mechanism myself for $30 parts. Service call would have been $100. The icemaker on the freezer routinely locks down with chunks of ice freezing on top of the ice-cube maker mechanism.

I bought a Maytag microwave on 3/20/2009. On 4/14/09, there was a service call because it did not start; the microwave was totally "dead." This problem was corrected and covered under the 1-year warranty. On 7/01/09 I requested a service call because I did not feel the microwave was heating correctly. The sensor feature did not "sensor" the food as stated int the instruction booklet - and still does not for that matter. And I feel it did not heat properly - and I still don't. But the repairman checked it out and said it was at normal operation. So I will deal with that.
Before I requested the service call, I talked with Twin Cities Appliance Service Center, 620 13th Ave So. Hopkins MN 55343, (phone 952-767-5700) stating the microwave was under warranty; she agreed. However, I received a bill for $94 for this service call. When I called regarding the bill, I got a total runaround. First, I was told it was an educational call, therefore, not covered. I am an educated 70-year old office manager and can manage a microwave! I had checked the 100% power settings, etc., etc.
Then I was told it was after the 90-day warranty (which is actually 1 year). Then, when I called the manager at the Whirlpool # above, he told me when a repairman can't find anything wrong with the product, it is not covered. I think this is bogus and the $94 should be covered under the warranty.
