I bought a stand up mixer online with an estimated delivery day of 04/09/20. I also received an email saying it was shipped. When I didn't receive the order I called KitchenAid and they told me it was ready to ship but they could not tell me "when it will be actually ship". I then asked to cancel the order and I was told that they can't because it was ready to be ship, but they don't know when they will ship it. That is ridiculous. They lied about the delivery day, they never ship it and now they can't cancel because "it is ready to ship???" Worst customer service, They are quick to get your money but they will not fulfill the orders you paid already. That is theft and false advertisement. They also disconnected the order status page so you can't check any progress on the order. Worst company. I will never buy anything from this company again.

The coating on the mixer attachments comes off and gets all over my hands. When you use the mixer that coating gets into the mix. I have been given almost every excuse from KitchenAid as to why this has happened and none of them is their fault. They even told me the coating is FDA approved and will not harm you if it gets into the food... REALLY!!!. Who wants that in their food? I have already ordered new attachments elsewhere but really bothered that they didn’t help solve the issue. I don’t want it for free but you have a issue with your product.

I ordered my stand mixer during Black Friday online. That same day I walked into a Best Buy and saw the same exact mixer for $120 off. I called KitchenAid the next business day to see if they would honor the price difference and even provided proof of it and they said they could not and just told me to send it back. What a way to keep a lifelong customer... Now it is the middle of January and I have yet to receive my refund. I have called 5-6 time and always get the same answer. "Nothing I can do. It's in our warehouse, they have to issue the refund."

Electric shock twice. I read booklet, attached the whisk and added my ingredients to the bowl. Started up fine. The First first shock came shortly after. The mixer was still mixing and I touched the top. I jumped and I turned it off and unplugged it. Thought maybe it was me. Started it up again. Was stirring away. I turned it off and lifted the top. Was trying to get mixture from the whisk and felt another stronger shock. This was while the mixer was turned off.

I recently ordered a KitchenAid mixer as a gift. Since the gift was not for someone in my immediate family, my billing address and my shipping addresses were different. The website actually offers to have you buy a product as a gift, and since many gifts are purchased for people who do not live at my address, it never occurred to me that it would not be possible to pay for a product and have it sent to its recipient at a different address. Apparently, for Kitchenaid, this circumstance is one of several that will bump your order into a "possibly fraudulent situation" that will put your order on an indefinite hold. I was sent a generic email five days after placing the order that said my order was not shipped and would not ship until further notice and there was no way to tell when or if this order would be filled. It didn't indicate my name or order number or product ordered. I called Kitchenaid directly and was put on hold for 38 minutes.
When a customer service representative answered, she could not give me any information other than the same information in the email -- that yes, I had placed an order but there was no way to tell where the product was or when or if it could be delivered. I asked to speak to a supervisor. The customer service supervisor explained that our order had been sent to their fraud department for one of many reasons. Our order could have contained an incorrectly spelled name, or we could have entered a zip code incorrectly or "any number of reasons" but no reason that could be specifically attached to our order. Further, the fraud department was not reachable on the phone, ever, nor could she talk to them and she didn't know when or if she ever would be able to speak to them. Our only recourse was to wait for another generically sent email that would explain that our order was either sent through or cancelled.
The fraud department would have made their decision within 24 to 48 hours but the email of explanation would take up to four days. At this point, it has been five days. One of my biggest problems is that the customer service representatives were unhelpful, unable to confirm or explain what was going on with the order and, although the company said they hadn't charged my card, they actually have. The money is out of my account and I have no product and no order delivery time or date. It has been explained to me by customer service that I could be a scammer, she used those words exactly, and that all of this vague information was for my protection. This is ridiculously poor customer service. I should be able to expect a company that has taken funds from my account to be able to tell me where the product I purchased is and when it will arrive. I went through three phone calls and three people before finally cancelling my order.
The last person I spoke with was able to explain the order process and where our order seemed to have been delayed. She did suggest cancelling the order and beginning again at a somewhat later date. Apparently engraving (which we had ordered on our Kitchenaid mixer) is not always available, so if we wait to re-order, engraving might not be available. Honestly, I would order through a third party company with reliable and good customer service. We, literally, spent three hours on the phone, most of it on hold, in order to cancel an order that was placed five days ago. Considering how much commerce happens on the internet, Kitchenaid needs to up their game considerably.

Bought one from QVC because of a good price and by the time I opened it to use it for the holidays I found out there was no spring and washer on the shaft to hold the attachment tight in place. When I contacted KitchenAid I was informed that that spring and washer was no longer needed that it would be just fine without it even though there was a half inch to 3/4 of an inch slack and the attachment bouncing up and down the whole entire time. I offered to pay good money for that spring and washer but they said it was no longer available. I sent that one back and marked it as defective and asked for a refund.
I bought a second one from Bed Bath and Beyond for a very good price and all the display models had springs on the shaft so when I got home and open the box I discovered that there was no spring or washer on the shaft and I had the same situation as before. That is unacceptable to me and this is not half the quality of the old KitchenAid mixer that I purchased some 10 years ago. After going from repair shop to repair shop and then hardware stores I was finally able to find a spring that I could cut down to size and use myself with a washer and I was able to make it fit.
God only knows what’s going to happen when I start using this makes right now because I have heard so many complaints about everything else that I absolutely cannot stand my mixer that I was so proud of buying and I promise you I will never buy another KitchenAid mixer again. The most miserable experience I have had for spending hundreds of dollars on something that I have wanted for years and now find out that I have just been wasting my wishes. What a piece of junk.
If you are considering one of these mixers you had better take a real close look at it because everything about it spells made in Taiwan are made in China or made in Vietnam. Absolutely nothing more than junk nowadays. This is not the same KitchenAid mixer that made them famous and now that Whirlpool owns it it’s only going to get worse. Don’t take my word for it. Just go look at it in the store very very carefully and then if you dare to I want you to get on the phone and call customer service even though you don’t own one yet and find out what type of miserable experience you find.

KitchenAid is well known for quality products but what they should be known for is terrible customer service. I’ve never had an experience as terribly as I did with the $400 mixer I just purchased. My husband and I had placed the order on the mixer last week, and it charged our card but never gave us a confirmation number. So I called their customer service hotline and got my confirmation number. The confirmation number sent by their representative said the ETA of my FOUR HUNDRED DOLLAR mixer would be today the 18th of February. Needless to say, my mixer never showed up and I was very concerned. So once again, I called KitchenAid’s hotline to figure out where my tracking number was so I could figure out where it was at. Well, they never completed my order processing. They charged me FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS and they didn’t even finish the processing. So I have no tracking number and my order was never in the system.
The representatives were trying to give a $50 store credit for their website as if I am ever going to order from them again. I told them I wanted expedited shipping but they insisted they do not offer it even though it was a failure on their part. I talked to a hateful supervisor who tried to inform me that THEIR website generates the dates and it is an estimated time, not an accurate time. But they NEVER HAD MY ORDER EVEN PROCESSED AFTER A WEEK. Their website is not my problem. I can’t fix it. Needless to say, I have a gift card I will never use and now I’m stuck waiting another 7-10 business days to receive my mixer because this company refuses to accept responsibility for their employees and help their customers who spend a great deal of money on their products.

Kitchenaid product quality really seem to be going downhill. My stand mixer keeps going after being turned off. It must be unplugged to stop. Very inconvenient. Blades do not touch sides and bottom of bowl. You must buy a special blade if you want it to. What??? Food sprays all over when using this so I must put it in a deep sink if I want to use it without getting food all over. These are quite expensive given they can't adequately do the job they're intended for.

Purchased mixer Nov. 29, 2017. December 5, 2018 was in process of mixing ingredients for making bread when a screw fell out of the mixer head. When I attempted to place screw, the pin holding the mixer head to shaft fell out - could not get it back in place. Tried to contact KitchenAid help center for days and never was able to contact anyone. Talked with store where I purchased the mixer. They suggested I contact a local certified KitchenAid repairman. The repairman supposedly fixed the problem, but when I plugged it in and turned it on to see if it would run it broke my dough hook even though I had raised the motor head to make sure it cleared the bottom. I will not buy another KitchenAid product.

Called on 12-19-18 as my stand mixer attachments do not come close enough to the bottom of the bowl. Took almost 20 minutes to get customer service repair and when I did the woman walked me through the repair even though I had told her I had already followed the same steps from the manual. She also kept talking right over me. $32 to send a repair box, $25 for service review and no more than $200 to repair a $300 mixer less than 2 years old. I will never buy another KitchenAid appliance again. So disappointed.

Horrible, Horrible KitchenAid experience. Don't EVER order directly from them on the phone or website. I ordered 2 attachments on Nov. 13th for my daughter's birthday and they STILL have not come as of Nov 26th. When I just called they can't even give me a tracking number as they were never shipped. They did ship two BLADES to one of the attachments but I had to drive 30 miles at a FEDEX delivery warehouse to pick them up at the delivery site since KitchenAid REFUSES to send anything to a FEDEX pick up site (which is 5 blocks from me). Since I have to sign for the order and cannot be home when I'm at work - this is still an ongoing NIGHTMARE of an experience and they still have no idea about my ORDER. I need a 0 rating for their customer service on ordering anything from them after this horrible, horrible nightmare of an experience.

My mixer shut off one night and wouldn't turn back on. I thought that maybe it overheated so about a week later I tried to use it again and an awful smelling smoke started to come from the motor. My pro 600 was a Christmas gift. Have had it for a year and haven't been able to use it. First the beaters that came with it didn't fit. Called customer service just to find out the mixer is rebuilt inside out. It only had a KitchenAid cover on it. My son paid $500 at Amazon and is sick over it. He saved a long time to buy this for me. The mixer overheats. After getting the proper mixing blade I tried to make bread. It got so hot you could smell burning wires. It's sitting on my counter. Useless. Customer service won't do anything. It came in a KitchenAid box and the mixer looks like and says KitchenAid. The representative from KitchenAid said they do business with the company but will not replace the appliance. Sad. KitchenAid used to be a USA reputable company.

I bought my mixer probably less than 3 years ago, and seldom use it (working nurse). I had problems with my mixer for about 1.5 year. Bowl is wobbly and would come off every time I use it. Metallic ring near attachments would come off and flew directly into the dough, making big mess and dropping metallic powder all over my dough, wasted ingredients every time I'm trying to bake something. Waste of money! PS: I bought my Artisan KitchenAid mixer from Macy's.

I have fixed older KA mixers for years. Decided to buy myself a new one (Kitchen Aid Artisan Mixer) for Christmas as they had rebate and coupons. The first one arrived with a head wobble. I called KA and they sent me a new one. The new one had a head wobble way worse than the first one. Took video and sent it to KA. They said it was "Normal", I am so disgusted with the quality of the NEW Whirlpool KA mixers. The older ones are so much better, well made and way heavier. So I reverted to an older model Pro 500 Heavy Duty with the same motor but with the lift bowl was stable and works beautifully. My advice stay away from the new Whirlpool garbage.

I had a shocking and dangerous incident with my 3 year old Artisan Stand Mixer. Whilst mixing softened butter with caster sugar attachment hub cover flew off into the mixing bowl. It then shot out at a high velocity and hit a window a meter away and then ricocheted across a window sill onto the floor. Thank God the hub cover did not go in a different direction and hit me or any of my family otherwise someone would have been seriously hurt and could easily have lost an eye, or worse.
The mixer blade was chipped in many places and the mixture had to be thrown away as there were lots of bits of plastic in it. I guess the attachment knob has worked loose but I have no extra attachments and have never had reason to unscrew the attachment knob. I am still feeling shocked at the force and speed of this accident. Kitchenaid insist that it is not possible for the screw to work loose and are ignoring my emails for action to be taken to prevent this happening again.

I purchased two of the KitchenAid stand mixers, one for myself, and one as a gift. There was a rebate offer with the machines. I filled out the forms as required, supported with a copy of the purchase receipt showing 2 units were purchased, and sent the information off to Kitchenaid. Months later, I received one rebate. I contacted KitchenAid to inquire as to the status. The rebate was processed again in Oct. 2017, for one rebate unit, and I was told it would arrive in approximately 6 weeks. Nothing. When I inquired again, I was told it had been shipped - "this item was mailed on 11/3/2017"- it was not received.
I made contact again with KitchenAid and now they have responded with - "We have escalated this to see if we can get this item resent to you". I asked that they let me know when it is mailed this time. I have also asked for verification that the rebate was in fact mailed in November. There has not been any response to any of my latest inquiries. If a rebate is offered then it should be honored and the rebate sent promptly. I am very disappointed with the company and their customer relations.

I placed an order through their TV promotion and within minutes I was very uncomfortable with the purchase. The girl on the line basically knew nothing about the product (Artisan Mixer) or company. She kept placing me on hold and had to ask someone else the answers to my questions. I was never given a confirmation number or an account number or anything pertaining to my purchase. I spent the next 3 hours trying to cancel my purchase.
I was given numerous reasons why people could cancel it. 1 was because I didn't have an account number, the other was no one could locate it, after 3 people. Could not locate me I really became nervous. I tried several numbers to KitchenAid AKA Whirlpool and the one that most of them kept telling me was that because it was ordered through the television ad that "They" KitchenAid could not cancel it. I was on the phone literally for 3 hours. Not that anyone cares, but my mother just passed away and I am very ill and am not supposed to get stressed out. I have never been treated so poorly and rudely by a company in my life.
I finally contacted their corporate offices in Michigan and explained to the extremely grumpy woman at the switchboard for the umpteenth time not to transfer me to their rude customer service dept. She put me through to Anderson ** whom is part of the "Executive Staff". He actually acted like he cared, listened to me and said he would have it fixed for me by noon, gave me his number and said if he didn't call by then to call him. Of course he didn't so I called today and he called me back with not so great news, his words. He told me the same thing that the last three or 4 people had told me yesterday "I would have to accept the appliance and send it back." I got extremely mad and said, "No absolutely not." He then said the same thing. We have no way of stopping it because of the other company.
I then called another number and got the billing dept of what I thought was this "Other" company. She told me I couldn't cancel it. I asked if this was the TV company and found out it was actually KitchenAid’s billing. I asked why I couldn't stop the purchase and she didn't know. She would have to ask. She came back on and said, "It’s in the fine print in the contract." I said I was never told about it, nor did I agree or sign a contract. So it had nothing to do with the fact that it was bought through the TV like all those people said. I spent over 4 hours on the phone being lied to berated, mistreated, hung up on and transferred to wring departments. Never ever will I purchase a KitchenAid or Whirlpool product since Whirlpool owns KitchenAid.

After reading & watching so many online reviews all over the web about the KA mixers, I'm simply shocked reading this site that was sent to me. We are buying a second KA for the vacation home & everywhere else KA is sold it's great reviews and they don't match this website at all? Lol. I gotta say after reading most all of these reviews on this site on mixers it seems many may be operator error caused by people buying the wrong machine to start with for the task at hand but most definitely many are likely union issues at Whirlpool / KA here too?
I'll give it a benefit of doubt I guess as several here are for 250-325 watt mixers failing to do breads and that is expected. If you're doing breads quite often It should be with their larger 500-600 watt units for sure. Even though the Classic & Artisan can be used for this job KA specifies this to be "occasionally" not routinely on them so simply knowing the units limits will keep it lasting decades. We have had the Artisan a long while now without any problems whatsoever, we also have a KA toaster & a refrigerator that all work perfectly. My fridge is 7-8 years old now, never a problem one.
Now fwiw I worked at Whirlpool for many years, union man born & raised so I'm no hater. But unions used to be able to simply strike without job loss until Reagan got in, after he got in our unions have been forced to do in house strikes to settle contract disputes. Production ran very slow, lines stopped quite often, production problems were on every line as parts ran out & every excuse heard of is used against unions & the company to lever towards better contracts. Sadly that is all that matters at times, customers are forgotten by many but in most cases believe it or not few bad parts ever leave the buildings. They just pile up at the end of assembly lines for repair.
Quality control is good at their jobs & catch almost everything but sometimes the parts do get out. The end result sometimes is bad even if everyone gets what they want. There are lousy & less products sold, job losses and bad reviews written by union members get left on the net even though they know the products they make themselves are outstanding. It can get really bad for all sides is really what happens and most times one bad thing even starts miles of lawsuits from every direction thinkable right in the midst of it all and all heck starts. To see how bad some unions really can get at times type the below phrase into Google without the parentheses then start clicking and reading the links that pull up --- (Toyota Take Down Firestone Revisited).

I don't usually take the time to review products but my experience was so unpleasant that I felt I need to document it. I purchased a KitchenAid mixer (Artisan) because they offered a $50 rebate. Some weeks after I submitted all the paperwork to the rebate dept they sent a postcard saying that I had sent the wrong version of the serial number and code. I had sent one that was on a sticker on the product and they wanted the one cut out from the box, which by the time they wrote to me was thrown away.
Despite it giving the same information and it being clear from all my other documentation that I had purchased their product, they said the instructions had a picture of a scissors and said the word "packaging" so they would not accept the sticker version and denied me the rebate. They also said that in order for me to have the warranty on the product I needed the serial number sticker which they now had (they asked for all originals no copies). When I asked for it back in order to be able to use my warranty they refused and said it was now their property. So not only did they find a nonsense way to avoid honoring my rebate but they actually have made it impossible for me to utilize the warranty on the product. It goes beyond petty and dishonest. The rep was just plain aggressive and hostile.

I know folks have had horrid experiences with the mixer and customer service but I have had an incredible one myself so I want to let everyone know. I purchased Model KSM150PSCU stand mixer from Crate and Barrel in Boston. A couple of months into use the bowl would come loose if the dough was slightly stiff while the machine was in use. This was a huge issue and I called KitchenAid Customer Service. They sent me a brand new bowl and paid for shipping. The lady who helped me was most gracious and nice and apologized. The new bowl came, I put it in and everything worked well for some time (4 months) and yes... you guessed it. The bowl came loose yet again. This happened right after my warranty expired.
So here I am again with customer service. I talked with yet another nice lady. I explained to her the whole history and how disappointed I was that I was having the same problem again. I asked her if they would send me a new clamp assemble at the base of the stand as I suspected that may have been defective. The customer service lady said "I am so sorry you had so much trouble with your stand mixer. Can you wait for a few minutes and I will find a solution that will make you happy." Less than 2 minutes later she came back and said they are shipping a brand new stand mixer to me with all the accessories etc. 1 week later I got a brand new mixer at the apartment. They also sent me a return label postage prepaid and I simply placed the old mixer in the box and sent it back. How can I possibly not be happy! KitchenAid is a great company. I am very happy to write this review. At the end despite all my problems they took care of me. Thank You!

In January of 2014 I purchased a KitchenAid Professional 600 Series mixer (Model No. KP26M1XBU5) for Christmas so she could make bread. Before she got a chance to use it, she was hit with a variety of medical crises. She said she would just continue to use her old mixer (which was smaller than the new one) until it broken. It finally broke last month, and on Christmas Day she took the new one out of the box to use it. After wiping the mixer down, she attempted to use the bowl lift and it broke the first time. While talking to customer service, she turned the mixer over to get the model and serial number and a metal part fell out the bottom which after doing research online we determined to be the bowl lift arm.
What it appears to have happened is the clip that holds the bowl lift rod in place with the bowl lift arm was not included, so when she attempted to use the bowl lift for the first time the rod slipped out. She called customer service back, thinking that they would fix the problem since the product was obviously defective. Instead, they "graciously" offered to sell her a refurbished model at 25% off. The mixer we have is BRAND NEW even though it has been in the box for three years, yet because it is out of warranty they believe they have no obligation to stand behind their product. To say that I am underwhelmed with KitchenAid customer service is a colossal understatement.

When I called the rebate center to ask about an extension they were rude and said no exceptions. I said so my only choice was to give a gift with the box cut apart to get the required UPC code. They said yes. I said that would be tacky. They said if I wanted the $30 rebate I had no choice. I also said the company strongly promoted their products as Christmas gifts yet the deadline was only two days later. Rebates being offered currently go from early December to the end of January. I would not recommend this company solely based on poor customer service over the phone.

For years I wanted to get my wife a KitchenAid mixer. After shopping for a good deal I finally purchased for Christmas 2014. Here we are, December 2016 and the beautiful red Artisan mixer is essentially a high priced boat anchor. Gears are thrashed & this machine has been used probably 30 times total. Called KitchenAid customer service, oh my, what a joke, they pretty much know that their product is inferior and then want you to spend $95.00 getting it back to them and have them evaluate the problem. The repair bill is estimated to be up to $250 and then we would have another 18 month machine. No thank you.
GOOD NEWS... We purchased a Kenmore Elite mixer on sale for $175.00, it comes with a 3 year warranty, more powerful motor, and ALL OF THE KITCHENAID ATTACHMENTS FIT RIGHT ON TO THE ATTACHMENT HUB on the Kenmore Elite. I hope my comments help someone make the decision to not purchase the very inferior KitchenAid mixer, the company is not the same as the original, wonderful mixer that lasted decades (HOBART). The brand was purchased by Whirlpool and has since become JUNK.

"14.95 each" I'm not spending $30 dollars plus shipping, for their mistake. I'll just keep mixing by hand thank you. To be fair, the lady I talked to was nice, she was just doing her job.

Then just stopped working altogether. Never again KitchenAid! These mixers are now a huge ripoff!

I think everyone who is spending hundreds on a mixer should know that KitchenAid will not replace or service their products after the one year warranty. As the other reviewers state even with machines found to be defective you are out of luck and your money. My paddle attachments have chipping paint after a few years' use. I feel that is a potential health hazard. They can only give a discount on new attachments. The motor is also noticeably working harder and the lock will not stay locked when kneading dough. The service rep was nice on the phone.

My husband purchased the KitchenAid mixer for me. We waited 3 years before we felt we were financially able to purchase one. I especially wanted it for the rebate going on in Costco for a free ice cream attachment. My father is on dialysis and his health isn't doing well, so I was in another state for the past couple of weeks. I thought the last day of the mail-in rebate was the last day of November, but when we came back to our apartment we saw that the 29th was the last day. We were really disappointed but had hope that KitchenAid might make an exception for just another day. We called, and they refused to work with us. It got me thinking that if anything happens to the KitchenAid, they will probably provide poor customer service.
Then when I came onto this website and saw the bad reviews, it really solidified our position. My husband does not want to give his money to KitchenAid anymore and we are returning the KitchenAid to Costco because now it is forever associated with bad customer service. I'm very disappointed. I was prepared to be a lifelong customer. Not only that, but I like to recommend products to people because I like to test out different products. Customer service is a huge part of customer experience. Brands are lifelong and get passed onto children, and I'm not prepared to do that with KitchenAid since I always take customer service into account.

I purchased a KitchenAid stand mixer at Kohl's. I used it only a couple of times when I noticed gouges where the head lifts up from the base. We took it back to Kohl's and they were terrific about it and replaced it for me. While we were waiting for them to check on the color that I wanted, Aqua Sky, I looked at the ones that were on display... there were 7, 5 of those 7 on display at the store had gouges in the same spot as the one I had just returned. I just happen to have my camera in my purse, so I took photos of all 5 scratched mixers. I already had a photo of the one that I returned. When we brought the new one home and took it out, it also had scratches in the same place. I called KitchenAid and spoke to a rep and she said they would send me a new one. I told her about the photos that I took, she didn't even want to hear it. So, a couple of weeks ago, we received the new mixer, it looked like there were no scratches.
Today was the first day that I went to make cookies. After lifting the head and bringing it back down, there it was, a SCRATCH!!! I continued to make my cookie dough. All of a sudden, the metal piece on the front of the mixer fell into my batter. I dug it out, and then I noticed that my batter had black in it. I scrapped the dough... washed the mixer bowl for the second time, made a new batch of dough, and once again, black in the dough. Right now the bowl is in the dishwasher, and I'm using my vintage Sunbeam mixer to do my baking today.
I put in another call to KitchenAid and I'm waiting for a callback. I was so excited to get this mixer and it's turned into a big headache!!! I also sent in a rebate and was told in a letter that I wasn't eligible. That same day that I bought the first mixer, I bought a second one as a gift... I hate to even think of someone that I give this to having as many problems as I'm having!!! I haven't yet taken a photo of the scratch on my 3rd mixer!

I'm saddened to read of all the horrid experiences people are having with KitchenAid products. I'm specifically writing to partly compliment the company (as it used to be) and maybe to explain some of the more recent disappointments. KitchenAid was started in 1919 by the Hobart Corporation. I have the heavy-duty Hobart KitchenAid K-5A stand mixer, which has served faithfully since about 1970. I would be lost without it! I'm actually trying to find someone who "tunes up" these mixers, because it could probably use a little TLC, and I'll happily pay the equivalent of a new one to have my old workhorse keep on going. I also have a KitchenAid refrigerator, which I bought in 1987 for $1,000 (a lot of money then, "top of the line"). Seriously! It is still in my kitchen chugging along! That's the good stuff, though.
The KitchenAid story continues... In 1986 Whirlpool Corporation purchased the KitchenAid company, so - effectively - in my mind the products are now actually "Whirlpool". I'm sure if I'd purchased my fridge a year or two later, it would now be long dead (I'm guessing in 1987 it was still the "old" quality stock.). It's too bad the quality of the company as it existed for so many years is no more, and the current owners are still riding on (and apparently ruining) the reputation of the original KitchenAid (Hobart) company and products. I can't come to any other conclusion, but it really isn't the same company we used to know.

My KitchenAid mixer has stopped working after 6 years of LIGHT use. It was used maybe once a month and stored under a dust cloth in a cabinet. I contacted customer service and they want me to purchase shipping to their service center for $42 and pay $50 to diagnose the problem. I asked how a lightly used mixer that was meticulously cared for could stop working in such a short period of time. The rep said that sometimes mixers break and it is not due to use or care. Since their mixers break regardless of use or care (per rep) then apparently the company has a quality control issue. I asked for a free diagnostic of my mixer. The company refused any responsibility since the mixer was more than one year old.
The company admitted to me the MIXERS ROUTINELY BREAK DUE TO THE POOR QUALITY but insisted that it was my responsibility to fix it. They expect $92 to diagnose a mixer that was HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS new (and not very old) and even more money to fix the problem (repairs cost $50+). So I am supposed to pay $150++ to repair a $300 mixer that is practically new??? STAY AWAY FROM KITCHENAID PRODUCTS!! Total junk! Do not let the "KitchenAid" brand fool you! I've gone through TWO of the exact same mixers, both only lasted 1.5 years and both broke the same way! When my first mixer (KitchenAid professional 600) broke only 1.5 years into using it, KitchenAid customer service offered me to pay $150.00 to send a replacement mixer. They said this mixer must have been defective. I was not impressed to pay the $150.00 for a company error such as a defective product. This should have been their responsibility to stand behind their product! I paid the $150.00 for the replacement mixer, which I was assured would not happen again. Not only did the exact same issue happen again, it actually lasted the exact same amount of time - 1.5 years! How this company gets by selling an $800.00 mixer that completely breaks down within 1.5 years (half a year outside of the warranty by the way), is beyond me.
So we phoned KitchenAid customer service once again explaining everything expecting them to replace this faulty product. Not only did they not offer to fix it, or replace it, or for me to pay $150.00 for a new one, but they offered 15% off a new mixer! Why would I spend another 800$ on a NEW KitchenAid product KNOWING it only lasts 1.5 years and KNOWING how terrible they treat their customer and their own company doesn't even stand behind their products. By 'breaking down' I mean it completely stops mixing and makes a loud sound as if the motor is breaking down. It is completely useless. I own a custom cake company and we used it for icings & small batch batters in addition to our larger mixer. Never used it for anything strenuous like bread or pizza dough (although you would hope it could handle that also - it does come with a bread hook after all).
I will never buy another KitchenAid product ever again, I strongly DO NOT recommend this product! I'm sure KitchenAid has other products that work fine, however, after experiencing their useless terrible customer service I will never trust their brand on another product. If they can't even stand behind their product(s)/brand then how can you feel good about buying it? The second you have a problem - they're gone!

I opened the housing to find a number of gears had been shredded and numerous teeth were missing from the gears. This is a sign of unusually cheap metal. I believe them to have a high content of zinc as they had the dull appearance of a form of pot metal or possibly slag. The gears were certainly not steel. I purchased a KitchenAid Artisan Mixer at Hudson's Bay Nanaimo, BC for a Christmas gift. I wanted a white colored one and on the box it said the color was white but when it was opened Christmas morning it was a dark purple color. We did not even remove it from the box but instead closed the lid and tried to exchange it couple days later but the staff at Hudson's Bay stated they have no white ones left and there are no white ones to be ordered from the warehouse. They also said they would not know when they would get more in. We asked them if they could call us when they get them in and one girl said they can't phone us but for us to keep checking in. We don't live close by so it would be both inconvenient and costly with gas to keep checking in. (We can phone them daily but what annoying inconvenience to do this daily)
We asked the staff if they could phone other stores but they said no one will answer the phones as it is few days after Boxing Day and no one will answer the phones at the other stores. Our family was disappointed this Christmas day as we were going to use the mixer to make special Christmas bread recipes for Christmas dinner but we could not do that. (Unless we wanted to keep the purple mixer) We will just have to wait for the white ones to come and since they cost a fair amount I think that we should not settle for just any color when we want the white one.
I know there is such a thing as human error but these toys aren't cheap and someone should be checking that the product matches what it states on the outside of the box. Next time I buy anything in a box I will literally take it out of the box to make sure I'm getting what it says on the box. Funny, I even double checked with the store clerk to make sure it was white and she read right on the box that it says it is white. Now we may have to wait months for it to arrive at the Nanaimo store.

We received, for our wedding, a KitchenAid professional 600 mixer that was manufactured in 2007. This (a KitchenAid mixer- old style 4 qt.) was what my parents received 35 years ago for their wedding and was a tradition I was excited to continue someday with our 6 (and counting) children. Unfortunately, after about 1-2 years of light use, the planetary housing began to come loose and work its way off, falling into the bowl. After using it like this for a while, it became unusable.
I put it away, trying it every so often in hopes I could get it to stick, but eventually it was clear that it was broken. After moving into our new house and getting settled, I decided I would try to figure out what was wrong. I was told by KitchenAid that I could spend $70 to ship it to them just to find out what was wrong, plus shell out more for parts and labor. I found a video online that showed exactly how to take the machine apart and replace parts. I ordered the planetary that matched my model number but when it came, it was a fraction (about 1/6-1/8) of an inch too short.
After multiple calls to KitchenAid (and to the nice people at replacement parts shops), I'm still stuck. KitchenAid offers ZERO technical support, only works through their own specific repair centers and can't so much as tell me the part number that would work. I live HOURS away from their certified repair centers and refuse to pay $70 in shipping (+parts/labor) when I could easily repair the mixer myself, if only I could purchase the proper planetary. I will never buy an appliance from this company again! Used it very little, but was concerned about the loudness of the machine. Used it infrequently and then didn't use at all for about a year and a half, then retired and started to make cookies on a weekly basis. Machine suddenly came to a screeching halt and locked up. Contacted Kitchen Aid and sent with shipping bill to determine cost and reason. Cost appeared to be a generic amount of $200 but no explanation of the problem.
In Phone call lady indicated the problem on they’re looking at the mixer was my misuse of the machine; it was visually abused. [Wished I had taped this call]. Then the reason it was because I hadn't used it once every month to lubricate the gears. I asked why wasn't that need stated in their documentation? She hemmed and hawed. She stated that the shop said the machine had dirt on surfaces, etc. I was flabbergasted and had her check if they had somehow confused it with another machine.
Finally, had it shipped back without fixing. It still appears the external machine is pristine [not convinced that they even opened it up to look] and is now sitting in the original box. Found out I got my mixer just after Kitchen Aid was sold to Whirlpool and mixers before that the mixers were pretty much indestructible. Meanwhile I am still using my old antique Sunbeam for the same uses with no problems. I would avoid any Kitchen Aid product.

This is simply to provide my experience with my KitchenAid mixer. I was purchased a Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas, therefore, gave my old and trusted Kenwood mixer to my daughter. Excited to use my new mixer, I prepared ingredients for my first banana cake. Enter problem number 1. The knobs for releasing the mixer head to enable it to tilt and the knob for the speed control have sharp edges on the internal end facings making the gripping of these knobs mildly painful. This design fault could be simply eradicated with a bull nose finish. The second issue is that the controls are positioned on both sides of the mixer, meaning that you have to orient the mixer for each task, ie opening the tilt mechanism and then in order to visibly see the speed control you need to turn the mixer 180 degrees.
This is a ridiculous design error given the next problem which is that during the mixing process the ingredients are agitated to an extent that they stick to the sides of the deep bowl and consequently don't get mixed at all. Trying to insert a spatula is very difficult without opening the mixer which means you need to rotate the machine yet again. Even doing this there is little scope for spatula to easily draw the ingredients back down in to the bottom of the basin. Also I found that ingredients such as butter did not mix from the rotating wand and remained as residual whole ingredients.
In addition to this the changing process of the mixing wand is poor. The system is sprung loaded and requires exertion toward a locking pin. This process is ok loading the clean rotating wand, however when the wand has mixture on it the process for removal of the wand is messy and you get your hands covered in the ingredients. I had to repeat this several times to enable a spatula to remove ingredients off the walls of the bowl. In addition to this the name band strip housing the KitchenAid name is unglued and is a fantastic location for harbouring airborne ingredients such as flour and sugar, thus providing a breeding ground for bacteria.
What were KitchenAid thinking of with this design. Surely their brand name could have been incorporated in to the mould of the main housing structure. In regard to the tilt open mechanism, there is no slowing of the process given that it is a very heavy piece of equipment. This means that the angle arm opening can exert great force at speed and be a horrible trapping injury feature, not good when you have small children participating with you at baking. Overall all, the machines aesthetic qualities are great, however, the design issue that I have raised make this a very poor choice of mixer ergonomically. I would rather used my old Kenwood which had none of these issues, a faithful friend and a safe friend.

I then called you again letting you know that I just got the letter because I was away and can I send it now. I was told that I was late but to send it in so they can work with me on my issue.
Today 1/15/2015 I called and they told me that the case is closed and there is no way I can get my Rebate. I spoke to several people regarding this and no one is willing to help me. Sophia was very curt of the phone and was less than willing to help. Then I spoke to Barbara who was understanding but said there is no one in all of KitchenAid who can help me. She noted my frustration and could understand it but reiterated that KitchenAid will not honor the rebate because the case is closed.
I am very disappointed that I will not receive my rebate from KitchenAid. I do understand and take ownership of the fact that I did not send the UPC code originally. But when I did call and resent it, I did follow the instructions of your customer service rep which she indicated that I needed to write it down and send it in. At that point I assumed I was all set and the rebate was in the mail. I then left for 3 months and was surprised that when I returned that the rebate was not in the mail. I am sorry that the rep gave me inaccurate information for the 2nd mailing and because of that I would have never thought that I would have to mail the information a 3rd time. I was late for the 3rd mailing because I was away but once I returned I called and send it to you immediately. This company makes it so difficult to get your rebate. It is said that they make a great product but they have the worst customer service.

I Have a now 7 year old KitchenAid Stand Mixer, Model: K4SSWH, that is now discontinued from the KitchenAid lineup. My grandmother got this mixer in December of 2008 and had wanted one for many years as she loved to cook on a regular basis and also worked as a Cook at the local Care Home. This was a cheaper model from KitchenAid website and only came with the Flat Beater attachment, so she had to use another mixer to do Meringues for pies.
In December of 2011, I bought my grandmother the whisk attachment for the mixer so that she could have one mixer for egg whites. On December 13th, however, she passed away. My grandfather had to open the gift to her and said that she would've loved it. After Christmas, I took home the mixer and have been using it ever since then. I have made cookies, cakes, and have since purchased the dough hook attachment for it. It has had its seventh birthday and my family loves it. I use it about 3-4 times a week and have not had any problems with it!

We will be contacting Kitchenaid on this one because we already ate several cheesecakes from this machine. Please be aware and look for metal shavings with your Kitchen Aid Mixer.

I took my just over one year old Kitchenaid mixer into the shop for repair and when I returned to pick it up, the machine had many deep scratches me on the housing. When I complained about it, the "technician" looked at me dumbly and said she could fix it. She painted over the scratches with appliance paint, leaving behind blobs of paint on the surface. When I inquired about the bowl screw which was missing, she didn't even know what part I was speaking of. I had to show her what it was on another mixer they had there. Also, since she had not ordered the replacement part, she took it from another machine and put it on mine. I have called twice to complain about the machine leaking grease and oil, and they offered to fix it. But after my first bad experience with them I don't want to take a chance. My machine was in pristine condition and now it looks terrible. I have used the machine less than 50 times since I bought it and I think they should give me a new machine. I do not recommend this shop to anyone.

It was not new but it worked fine and included the wire whip, the dough hook, and the batter paddle (sorry I don't really know what that last thing is called). I owned an Artisan stand model 4-quart size, for most of my adult life. It was 30 years old, and was my holiday workhorse. I decided to get the slightly larger 5-quart, (through Williams-Sonoma) as the motor was supposed to be slightly larger and I thought it would more easily handle the double batches of dough. I used it only three times for cake mixes since receiving it last Christmas day, but yesterday, days before Christmas 2014, I found it cannot handle even single batches of dough. The torque needed to go through ONE CUP OF BUTTER was too much, causing the motor to sound 'labored', and the head to bounce so violently you could see the locking mechanism bounce out of position, resulting in the tilt head flying up! I am so distressed, as I gave my old machine away, and I'm saddled with this expensive piece of trash.

I make a product every year as a thank you to my customers. It requires a heavy load on a mixer, so I purchased a 600 Professional because it was supposed to be the best. I bought the first one in 2010. I only use it once a year, and the first one lasted 3 years. The gears stripped out because the plastic gear housing cracked. So in 2013, I bought a new one, thinking that I had just overloaded the machine, and I would baby this one. Additionally, I ensured that the model I purchased had the die cast aluminum housing so that it wouldn't crack. I was able to finish my production last year.
Alas, very shortly into my production this year, the mixer stopped spinning with a horrible grinding noise. I took it apart, and the grease was full of metal shavings. I had to brave the early Black Friday to get into Sears, where I purchased a Kenmore stand mixer, for about 150 less than another KitchenAid would have cost me. (By the way, don't believe it when you hear the bowls and attachments are interchangeable. They are a slightly different size and are not properly interchangeable.)
I finished my production this year with the Kenmore purring along without any apparent distress. I was checking this page deciding whether I should fix the KitchenAid to have as a backup for next year. I cannot express properly just how deeply disappointed I am in these machines. To have the gears strip out using 2 boxes of cake mix with butter and nuts is appalling! While the body of the machine would last through a nuclear blast, the gear assembly is just not properly constructed, and chews itself up. The grease was absolutely full of metal shavings. I cannot express enough, DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE MIXERS. You will be extremely disappointed. (I mean, it's supposed to be a high wattage, labeled as "professional," and marketed to people that have a heavy usage requirement for a mixer.) Perhaps I should spring for the 2 grand and get a Hobart.

The Bosch machine is more user friendly and more importantly has 800 Watts as opposed to the Artisan 325 Watts. A family member purchased the Bosch machine about 7 years ago and loves it. I didn't expect them to replace the whole mixer (I sorta hoped) but I didn't expect when I called KitchenAid about the mixer my Mom gave me, to tell them that it was leaking oil from the head (while I was trying to make pastry dough), that they would tell me this: That the $395 mixer that I own has only a one year warranty, and that I would have to ship it to Iowa to the tune of $42, only to "discover" what horror I would face as far as repairs (service & parts). "What if I found out it would cost me the price of a brand new mixer?" I asked. No response.
So wait, should I just buy another $395 mixer in a different new color? Or maybe suck screw KitchenAid. I'll buy into a company that has a better warranty that matches the price of their sold goods? I have a Vitamix Blender, and they at least offer a 7-year warranty, and what's more most people said theirs have lasted for years. I used it infrequently for about 5 years without problem when I noticed it dripping oil into my food and spraying some onto the counter. I stopped using it and it now sits in my basement. I ordered a stand mixer from KitchenAid's website on 8/6/14. I immediately received a confirmation email but didn't receive anything else within the next week stating my order had processed or shipped. I sent a message through their website inquiring about the status of my order. After a few days I didn't receive a response and called Customer Service.
On 8/15/14 I spoke with a friendly gentleman from Customer Service. He said that a computer glitch prevented the orders from going into Shipping Status. They thought they fixed the glitch but, apparently, some orders were still being affected by it. He informed me that I could expect it in 8-10 business days. If I don't receive it in 1-2 weeks then I should call back.
Almost 2 weeks later, on 8/28/14, I still had not received my order. I called again and spoke with a rather rude woman. This time, I was given the excuse that they were backed up with orders and would get to mine as soon as they could. I explained that I had been waiting over 3 weeks for my order and would like to know when I could expect it this time. She told me that it usually takes 8-10 business days. That's great, however, I just stated that I've been waiting over 3 weeks. The last time I called I was told I could expect it in 8-10 business days. She got rather snippy and said that nobody ever told me that. I told her, again, that I would like some time frame in which they planned on shipping my order. I was told that she didn't know and they'd ship it as soon as they got to my order. Just to make sure I was understanding I said, "So it could ship today or 1 to 2 months from now?" Again, I was given the line about how they'd ship it when they got to it. I told her I was no longer waiting and just wanted my money back. I was then informed that my order had already processed and was pending shipment, so a refund was not possible.
In attempt to get some answers from someone, I posted my concerns on their Facebook page on 8/28/14. On 8/29/14, I received a response and was told to send an email. I sent the email the same day and as of 9/3/14, did not receive a response. I posted on their Facebook page again and received some response about how they will get in contact with me shortly. On 9/4/14 I filed a complaint with the BBB and am waiting for their response.
These people have my money, my product, don't know when it will be shipped and refuse to give me my money back. I have been waiting almost 5 weeks and have gotten absolutely nowhere with them! As far as I'm concerned, I should have my order shipped overnight with a gift card included! This is the most ridiculous, ignorant company I have EVER dealt with! I purchased the Professional HD stand mixer from Sam's club in May 2013. I was so proud to finally own one until I went to use it and it stopped moving. The motor continued to operate but the mixing blade didn't move at all. I removed the contents of the bowl and my husband started it to see what was happening and the mixer blade moved with what sounded like gears being chewed up. I contacted KitchenAid and told them what happened and 2 days later I got an email asking me what I had in it when it stopped working. Their email insinuated they were trying to find a way to suggest I was at fault for the defect in their equipment. I answered everything truthfully and then they refused to work with me any further until I could produce the sales receipt.
The unit came with a promo pasta attachment rebate. I sent in a copy of the receipt and the UPC from the box at that time and suggested they could get the record there. I was then informed that was another division of their company and they don't have access to those records. I asked them if they worked for the same company then told them that I had ordered the meat grinding attachment from them as well and I have yet to use either attachment. I babied this appliance. I made small batches in it each time I used it. Never stored in a cupboard but displayed it proudly on the countertop where I used it. I was informed that my situation was rare however I read on their twitter site complaints about the same thing and said so much to them. That was the last time I heard from them. I still have the box it came in so my husband placed it back in the box.
I am so disappointed in KitchenAid. First for making me feel like the villain when I have done absolutely nothing to harm my mixer in any way. I have a 26 year old hand mixer that still purrs like it did when I first purchased it. I didn't even run the KitchenAid any faster than medium speed. My husband jokingly said I pampered it like it was a baby and all that got me was a defective machine that didn't work past 12 uses. KitchenAid stated to me in an email that although I registered the unit to receive the warranty it didn't mean I was guaranteed the warranty. I asked them then why would you ask your customer to register their appliances if you had no intention of honoring your one year warranty. They did not reply.
A friend suggested I should take it back to Sam's Club and I asked why. KitchenAid guarantees their units for one year against manufacturing defects. They just refuse to honor that guarantee. This is not Sam's Club responsibility. KitchenAid used to be a name you could trust. Now they aren't. I have never had an appliance break down in the first year. As a matter of fact I have never had an appliance break down within the first 7 years after purchase. I was extremely shocked that this happened and very disappointed in their responses to my problem. All I was asking for is what I was promised in their guarantee, nothing more. I considered my stand mixer a luxury and treated it as such. Now it is just a broken piece of equipment sitting in its original box.

These mixers are very expensive; however their construction is obviously inferior if they only last a year or so. With only a 1 year guarantee, the customer is seriously unprotected from these common failure issues. I believe KitchenAid should stand behind their products by either correcting the components that consumers frequently report or increase the warranty period to protect consumers from known issues. Model K45SS Food Mixer Accessory Attachment - Food Grinder defect: The food grinder, white plastic housing assembly, is cracking. It is cracking around where the aluminum power drive connection stub and auger bearing sub-assembly were molded into the plastic housing assembly originally when it was manufactured. Multiple deep longitudinal cracks can be seen. This is after about 5 years of mostly sitting on the shelf unused. The grinding unit may have been used 2 or 3 times at most and should never have cracked in this manner. Older styles of hand and motor-driven metal grinders last 100 years plus and can be found in flea markets across America, but this composite piece of junk is self-destructing (like a mission impossible tape) while sitting on the shelf.
This is a perfect textbook example of poor part design, engineering and quality control. KitchenAid/Whirlpool will only sell me another replacement grinder white plastic housing assembly because it is out of warranty. And get this - they will only warranty the replacement part if I buy one for 90 days. I told them no thank you. I'll box up and sell the whole mess to someone I don't like and buy a replacement machine and all the attachments from a reputable brand. Some manufacturers still stand behind their products. The shaft was still in the mixer, but the beater part fell into my batter. I wrote to them thinking they would stand behind their made in China product and send me a new beater, but no deal. They want me to buy new beaters since it's past the 1 year warranty and spend another $16 on junk from KitchenAid.

I am very disappointed in your stand mixer. My husband and I received the mixer as a wedding present. We recently took it out of the box, unwrapped it and put it on our counter. To my surprise, the mixer doesn't work. When I called the customer service department, I was told the warranty had expired and there is nothing that can be done. I can take the mixer to an independent shop approved by KitchenAid to be fixed. I am very shocked that the warranty was only a year long and since it expired, that nothing can be done. In my eyes, this is a lemon mixer and KitchenAid should be ashamed to do nothing! What happened to the high-end products? We even bought a KitchenAid oven (now looking back, what a mistake!). Moving forward, there won't be other KitchenAid products. I am very concerned about KitchenAid's company policies and the products they sell!

My 14-year-old KitchenAid Classic tilt-head mixer's motor blew. I researched online and found that some previous year's models were made with plastic gears, but the issue had been resolved. I decided to purchase another KitchenAid classic mixer. Two weeks later, while I was creaming room temperature butter with sugar, the gears broke. I promptly returned the mixer for a full refund. Obviously, KitchenAid has not changed the gears. They are either made of cheap metal or still made of plastic. KitchenAid used to be a brand that could be relied upon. For $250.00, a mixer should last longer than 2 weeks!

I purchased a KitchenAid mixer model # KSM6573CER1 from the Albany, Oregon Costco store on 04/18/12. At home while reviewing the mixer’s labels, I found that the mixer was rated at 350 watts and not at 746 watts or 1 hp as advertised in the store, on your mixer’s box, on Costco’s on-line site or in Costco coupon book. I then contacted KitchenAid at 1-800-541-6390 and was told that 350 watts equal 747 watts or 1 hp as they use a DC motor. I was then told to first contact Costco with this problem then KitchenAid.
The next day, I returned to the Albany store, where I purchased the mixer and I checked the display model. It was rated at 500 watts. I then contacted the store’s customer service represented. **, acting service manager, said he would follow up and get back with me on the discrepancy in the mixer’s hp rating of 350 watts and not 746 watts. ** later said on the phone that "he is contacting people about the discrepancy in horse power rating and will follow up". Soon after that, I received a phone call from Heidi of Whirlpool International (WI). Heidi said that 350 watts is equal to 747 watts or 1 hp as it is a DC motor.
As a retired engineer, I then explained to her that a motor rated in DC or AC watts will both consume the same amount of power. In this case, the mixer’s label of 350 watts AC does not equal 746 watts or 1 hp whether the motor is AC or DC. Heidi then said that the display models were special model with a higher rating of 500 watts then the sale model, as I had noticed in the store also. She then said that a WI engineer would call me and explain how 350 watts equals 746 watts. I am still waiting for the call from a WI or Costco engineer with an explanation or the replacement full power mixer of at least 746 watts or 1 hp.
I have checked in other Costco stores (Salem and Eugene, OR) and the boxes say 1 hp but the mixers are 500 or 350 watts not 746 watts. I have received a second contact from KitchenAid and they maintain that 350 watts is the same as 746 watts because their mixer's control system makes the difference. This is fuzzy logic, misleading and not true.
After waiting 3 weeks for resolution to a simple problem “the wrong mixer put in a 1 hp box and sold in different 3 stores”, I have filed a complaint with Oregon’s Consumer Protection. In this situation, I am expecting a replacement 1 hp KitchenAid mixer as advertised and outlined in WI’s “mission statement and code of ethics”.

I called KitchenAid on my hand mixer, which just quit working. Although it is an older model and out of warranty, it has been used at the most, 15 times. I still have the box. My mother had a mixer 10-15 years older than mine and it still worked. I couldn't understand why this product, barely used, just up and quit. I called the customer service 800 number and got transferred to the small appliance center. I was hopeful that someone there would offer me something such as replacement info, discount on the next mixer, etc. The first person that I spoke to offered no help or compensation. Other than go spend $40-$100 on a new one because your product is out of warranty, which by the way is only one year.
Upset, I told her this was ridiculous. She then told me it's like a car warranty. Really? Car warranties last 4-6 years, your lousy product only has one. I then asked for her supervisor. She transferred me to a guy, who said his name is Larry. Larry's customer service skills are horrible. He was condescending, talked over me numerous times, arrogant and even started yelling at me! This is the type of supervisors they employ. Not once did he offer me some type of compensation. When I asked him for his manager, he refused and told me to write a letter.
No email, no phone number, no names = no response from the higher ups because they don't care! I then called the corporate office (they do have a complaint office there, Larry by the way). I spoke to a Jacqueline who offered me an apology and 10% off my next mixer. Gee, she said that she would forward my issue to the executive team who reviews complaints. I know I won't hear back on my poor experience. No more KitchenAid or Whirlpool for me.

My KitchenAid mixer is 3 years old, when it started to leak black grease from the area above where the beaters attach. Please note that I have only used this mixer minimally due to lack of time to bake. When I got it out to use it to make meringue for a recipe, it started leaking black grease. While doing some research I have discovered this is a common problem with the newer models. It will take around $100.00 to ship it to the company, have it diagnosed, fixed, and returned. Considering I have saved for years to buy my mixer and purchased it based on my dear friend's suggestion (She is a daily bread baker, and their 20-year-old mixer is still working and never has needed any maintenance), I am very disappointed. I have made only about 4 small loaves of bread in this mixer and a couple of cakes, and it is already not working.
I hope this saves someone else the grief of buying a mixer for $499.00 that does not perform. It is sad that this company does not live up to its name. With 13 grandchildren who will be setting up households, I will not be recommending KitchenAid brands to them. I'm very dissatisfied.

On December 26, 2008, I purchased a KitchenAid KP26MIXNP 600 Series 6 qt. stand mixer. When it arrived, it did not work and I sent it back for a replacement. I have had my new one for 3 years and I honestly have only used it 6 times or less. As a senior citizen, I don't do much baking, except for holidays. On Sunday, I went to use my mixer and it started making a loud noise and completely stopped. I have contacted KitchenAid, to no avail. I was told I could send it back to them to be repaired, but all costs would be up to me to pay. I called a local service center and was told it would cost $99.00 plus parts to repair. Another email from KitchenAid also sent a site to buy another one while they were on sale. Come on, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I was under the impression that their products were not only expensive, but had good quality merchandise. This is not the case as far as my mixer goes. I believe KitchenAid is more concerned with the appearance of the new mixers than they do with the mechanics of them. Plus, they have zero customer satisfaction.

Quality of mixer not what it used to be: I inherited my mother's KitchenAid that she had for 20+ years. I loved it and used it often for everything from whipping cream to wheat bread. It finally gave out last year, so I purchased a new 4.5 quart mixer (same exact one my mother had). I was disappointed that the attachments that came with it were not coated, but I had kept the old attachments. I was making bread sticks with less than 4 cups of flour, and the motor gave out. I had only owned it for a few months, so KitchenAid replaced it; and I was happy.
I mostly make cookie dough in it, until recently, I have gotten back on a bread-making kick. I made a batch a few days ago, and the machine seemed to be struggling. I made two batches today in two separate bowls. The first batch really struggled, and by the time I got to the second batch, the motor quit. I let it rest, and it turns on but has a very loud clicking noise.
Customer service told me that although the manual says do not use recipes containing more than 8 cups all-purpose flour, what it really means is do not use more than 8 cups total ingredients. So it's my fault for not interpreting right? I was told the warranty is only for the first year, so I would need to pay $32 in shipping costs then another $25 to have the problem diagnosed and then pay whatever the repair cost would be. So I am looking at spending around $100, which is half of what I paid for it originally!
The brand KitchenAid is not even close to the quality it was, when my mother bought her machine. They have cheapened the parts, and I will never buy this brand again. I never checked reviews because of the old machine I previously had. What a mistake. Check reviews! There are so many negative and upset customers having my exact experience. Hopefully, this review may spare someone else.

Back in the mid 90's, I purchased a beautiful Cobalt Blue higher end motor Kitchenaid mixer... it lasted for years, although the paddle attachment did have some of the coating flake off, I only desired an upgrade because the bowl was smaller than what I wanted - 8 cups. So my husband surprised me 4 years ago with a professional 600 Kitchenaid and I have used it maybe 3 dozen times in those 4 years. I have been a full time nursing student and then employee during these 4 years, so I haven't had the opportunity to cook as much as I did before with my previous kitchen aid mixer. I gave my beautiful older model to a neighbor who knew what a wonderful addition it would be to her kitchen. Yesterday, when mixing my chocolate chip cookie dough, the gears stripped before my eyes as I added 1 cup of chocolate chips to the batter. I believe Kitchenaid has built these mixers with really strong motors, and inferior gears. I bet, if I were a betting woman, that the gears in my old kitchenaid are of a higher quality material. I never once had any issue with the gears on my older one - and after so little use, my new one is literally stripped? Insane, rip off!

I purchased a KitchenAid artisan mixer about a year and a half ago and have used it for light baking no more than a dozen times. While it was always noisy and had a tendency to vibrate itself across the counter, it had recently started to make a loud gear-grinding sound when I turned it off. During the last two demonstrations of this, a spark flew out of the motor area and the mixer blew the kitchen circuit. I called 800-541-6390, the KitchenAid service number, and was told that because the one-year warranty has expired, it would cost $32 for shipping, $25 to diagnose the problem, and then of course additional costs for parts and repair.
This machine is clearly faulty, defectively manufactured, or it wouldn't have the issues it has, given its light usage and good care. Nothing I have done has caused its internal problems. Yet the company absolves itself of all responsibility. So much for customer satisfaction. So much for standing behind one's product. What's really galling is that this is a highly rated, expensive kitchen appliance. And now I have to pay for its repair--to right its original manufacturing defects. I have no intention of sending the mixer back to them for repair and will hopefully find someone to fix it locally. In short, I expected better performance from a KitchenAid product and a better response from the company.

Absolute -0 rating! I'm on my 4th KitchenAid 4.5-Quart (4.3L) Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, and I am far from happy! My first experience, the motor was smelling and giving out too easily with such little use, and therefore, I returned it! My second experience, I purchased the exact same mixer (same model and serial number), and this one, the head tilt would be in the lock position and it still became able to unlock. I exchanged my second one for the third one which, was falling apart literally on the head tilt at the seams. This obviously does not look good at all to family and friends that we have in and doesn't make me happy, especially being a loyal KitchenAid consumer in my past.
Obviously, at this time, I am now getting technically so "annoyed" with this company that I finally called the 1 800 number and spoke to a KitchenAid rep who asked me to fax in all of my info to KitchenAid in regards to my mixer. I did this the same day. I still have my fax (Evidence) and obviously my reciepts! This rep from KitchenAid told me to track with Puralator the PIN and call when I see that Kitchen Aid had indeed recieved it.
On my fax, I asked if KitchenAid could (please) confirm once they received my fax by calling my landline or faxing my same phone number. I waited all that day, and there was no response from KitchenAid with acknowledging that they did indeed recieve my fax. Now, I am not even comfortable whether KitchenAid (actually) received my fax or not. Obviously, this slows down the whole process altogether!
The next day, I called the 1 800 number again and had the nastiest rep for KitchenAid in my experience. He was not helpful whatsoever and actually hung up on me. Well now, I'm more than disgusted with this rotten customer service, and this puts the icing on the cake, so to speak! I had to call back yet again to KitchenAid and speak now with one of the supervisors!
I finally was made aware that the fax was received. Finally, I got an answer in regards to my fax. My ((NEW)) KitchenAid finally comes to my place today. My husband and my self took pictures of the hole in the box which the (Same Day) guy said was not a big deal. Well, well, when my husband and my self took the so-called new KitchenAid Classic Mixer out of the box today, it was even worse than the mixer I sent back to Kitchen Aid itself. It's the exact same (issue) that I just had back on the 10th day of January 2012.
This mixer is falling apart at the seams in the exact same spot as the previous one I just sent back to KitchenAid itself! What truly has me disgusted on top of all of this is the fact that I asked the first rep from KitchenAid if there was a possibility that a person from the "Assembly Line" could have a good thorough look at my mixer before it comes back to me!?
This rep told me that this was not going to happen, considering that if someone had to go "directly" into my KitchenAid box before sending it, that (KitchenAid) would classify my mixer as actually tampered with. Therefore, she stated, that the mixer came right off the assembly line, and no human being will be able to literally touch my mixer and it would be shipped directly to me instead.
Well again, once we (my husband and my self) opened my KitchenAid mixer this morning, we took pictures of the actual "fingerprints" all over my mixer. How is this possible that there's not supposed to be fingerprints all over my mixer stainless steel bowl, when in fact, this rep told me that no human being could touch my mixer.
My husband and my self we're very careful and added no fingerprints to this bowl. I feel more devalued as a Consumer, and I literally have in my possession today, in my opinion, the exact same mixer as what I sent off to KitchenAid just on the 11th day of January 2012. I am still "stuck" with a mixer that I am not at all happy with!!
From having a mixer that the motor was garbage to another mixer of the head tilt not locking in its position then tobanother mixer which was falling apart and now still have in my possession and that is literally still falling apart again today, would you honestly think I am a happy consumer? Not so much! All I ever wanted in the beginning was a brand-new KitchenAid Mixer and one that I could actually be happy about and show off to my friends and family in my home!
It's not very much to ask for, especially when I am paying the money for it! If you're a consumer looking for a bad motor in an appliance, a locked position which does not work, or even an appliance that is falling apart literally, then you've come to the right place!
No compensation has been shown to me for my "4" truly bad experiences whatsoever! I'm truly disgusted. Thats one guarantee! The brand name (KitchenAid) today does not make me feel safe and/or comfortable any longer! How sad is that! A consumer pays good money for a so-called good brand and has what to show for it, I ask!? You tell me! I am (indeed) yes, looking for an excellent KitchenAid Mixer, and I know I should be compensated for all of the ** I had endured in this lengthy process of truly (bad) experiences with KitchenAid.
I would very much appreciate hearing back from an attorney! Thank you very much! I have tried 4 times to have faith in this company. Obviously, this is getting me nowhere!

Based on the literally hundreds of negative comments on Amazon and other forums regarding your KitchenAid "professional" 600 model stand mixer and the lack of ability to mix 8 cups or less of flour into bread without breaking the motor or stripping the gears, it is obvious that the "kevlar" housing in pre 2007 models was a design flaw doomed to fail.
So many people invested a substantial sum in this "professional" 600 unit with the intention of using it for many years, as was the expectation and actual case with older KitchenAid models. They even intended to invest in all the add-on components that go along with the base unit. I have a "professional" 600 stand mixer purchased in 2006 and used on average twice a month which has now broken while mixing less than 8 cups of flour. I believe that this was caused by a design flaw that your company is aware of.
As an industry leader, you should do the responsible thing and repair or replace these defective units instead of having your customer service reps pretend that this is not an issue and offer as the only solution that your "valued" customers spend more money to repair a defective unit with more "kevlar" defective parts. In the long run this policy will backfire on your company because you are losing the trust and positive recommendations of many customers. I for one do not think I will ever purchase another KitchenAid or Whirlpool product based on my experience with this and could not in good conscience recommend your products to others. Future KitchenAid "professional" 600 purchasers be aware that this is not a unit that will function as advertised!

Here is how it is done. When you get ripped off on products and get the cold shoulder from the perpetrator, you immediately contact your state's Department of Justice Attorney General's Office Consumer Protection Unit and also the Federal Trade Commission and file these serious complaints. Smoke poured out of the mixer and an electric smell filled my kitchen. I figured it must be a 1 in a 1,000,000 flaw and returned the mixer to Macy's with no trouble.
I believed that these products were made to last a lifetime. Tonight, I tried to make another batch of pizza dough with a brand new mixer, only six cups of flour. Well within the guidelines for this professional grade mixer and this new mixer failed after 7 minutes this time. There is no way this is a professional quality product as advertised. I am supposed to be able to double this recipe without any problems. I would not recommend this product to anyone who actually intends to use it. It looks nice. This must be a very common problem, as there are many complaints here on this site, and a professionally prepared video on YouTube detailing the procedure to replace grease. I would think that the mixer would be designed to keep this from happening, or that a better grade of grease that doesn't separate would be used.
My mom has a mixer that has lasted longer than I have been alive, no problems. I expected at least a few years of problem-free use out of this one. I encourage anyone looking to purchase a KitchenAid to think again. If you are putting down that much money for a mixer, do your homework!

What a piece of garbage this KitchenAid Mixer is! I bought it just over 2 years ago and from the very first use, there was an awful burning smell. Customer service indicated that it was just the "newness" burning off and that it would eventually dissipate. About a year ago, the pitcher started leaking from the bottom down, all over the motor creating an absolute mess. Apparently a washer on the bottom exterior of the pitcher came loose and the worse part is, there is no real surefire way to tighten it.
I called KitchenAid recently and they were only willing to sell me a a new pitcher at horrible price. That was it. So, I am filing my first complaint on this site. The right thing to do is recall the product and issue refunds or vouchers to buy a new model. I have no plans at all to buy another KitchenAid product at this point.

I purchased a K5 stand mixer in 1966 and used it heavily for over 40 years. Then the switch failed and it wouldn't turn off completely. The cost to repair was estimated at over $100. So, since it was an old machine and new ones were on sale for less than $200 I bought a new basic K5 model. I wish I had my original one repaired. Issues with the new one included less power than old one, bowl locks in place if dough hook has kneaded dough, pieces of paint from beaters flake off and fall into food being mixed, but the worst thing is the chrome pin that holds the mixer head onto the base is not secure. It works its way out so I have to lift the head and wiggle the pin back into place before every use. I discovered this problem when the mixer was running, and the head fell off which could damage my hands, countertop and other items nearby. This could have been a real disaster had my hand been in the way. I sent KA website customer service complaints but no help. It is out of warranty by one week. I felt too bad and so sad that there's nothing we can do. I will never buy another KitchenAid appliance.

6qt KitchenAid Mixer Complaint! I was making some cookie dough and the planetary gear that holds the blender fell into my dough. My dad, who is an engineer took a look at it. Here is what he said. Looks like poor design!
After examining and investigating the problem of the uncoupling of the (rotating) planetary gear output shaft assembly (PGOSA) from the unit, I have concluded, (as a mechanical engineer with > 40 years of mechanical design experience), that the method of attaching the PGOSA to it's internal gear box was patently unreliable and prone to eventual failure. (Just imagine if Boeing were to attach their propellers to their engine drive shafts using this press-fit method on these dissimilar density materials! ) Nothing wrong with press fits; in this case the integrity of the (soft) splined hole did not hold up to or match the compressive strength of the steel splined shaft.
Without getting too pedantic; a hardened, finely splined, 1/2 steel shaft pressed into a matching female spline into a (much softer)die cast material housing, without any other mechanical means of resisting axial separation, could not reliably resist the rigorous, rotating (torque) and vibratory forces imposed upon its construction. Simply, it was not a good design, not up to the rigors of the parameters of the "professional" product. The designer saw this way of connecting the PGOSA to the internal gear drive system (male spline to female spline press-fit) as a simple, fast, inexpensive way to assemble the components. Quality assurance should have rejected this shaft coupling design as not commensurate with the overall reliability demanded as a heavy-duty use "professional" product.
What has happened to your machine--and most likely to untold number of others, is that over time and repeated use, the shaft's spline loosened insideits soft housing spline and therefore lost its grip (radial holding force). The visual evidence is clear: The die cast housing (female) splineteeth are worn down and unable to resist separation. The shafts should have been mechanically locked (pinned) together.
Don't believe for a minute that the fault was how you used the mixer! This defective shaft-coupling design is the appalling weak link in what is otherwise a robust, well-built mixer. I have a way of fixing this mixer by using a special (shaft-bonding) Loctite to join the splines. Nothing to lose; in fact, my repair will plausibly be more permanent that replacing the $$ parts in the machine, which eventually could fail again in the future.

I replaced my 4-1/2 quart KitchenAid Mixer back in 2001. There was nothing wrong with my 4-1/2 quart. I purchased a new 6 qt. Professional model. Immediately, I experienced a problem. Blood would back flow into the head of my machine while using the grinder attachment. I always make sure that my meat is cleaned from all the tuff tissue and the fat removed. Meat also is cold or a little icy. I called KitchenAid and explained my problem. The women said that I could return the machine for a full refund. However, since I sold my old mixer, I need to keep the new one. She claimed this problem was never reported before. I don't believe this for one second.
Well after experiencing the same problem over and over, back flow of blood into the head of the mixer, I went out and bought a meat grinder for $300. This machine weighs 70 lbs. I went back using my KitchenAid and had to drain blood out of the head every time I used the machine. A couple of years later, I had to purchase a new meat grinder, my old one cracked. It was 15 years old, so I did not mind too much. Guess what the new meat grinder attachment for the KitchenAid Mixer has an O-Ring on the metal shaft going into the head of the machine. This tells me that KitchenAid knew they had a problem and fixed it on the cheap, a rubber O-Ring. Now the blood does not back flow into the machine. Knowing that there is dried bloom inside my machine has always grossed me out and took the pleasure of owing a new machine with it.
I emailed KitchenAid just this past week and explained everything to them again. Just like before, complete denial of them having a design flaw. KitchenAid would give me a 20% off discount on a new one.
After reading all the problems with KitchenAid on this website, I will never purchased another product from them. So sad to see such a wonderful company go to the dogs. Beware to anyone considering buying any KitchenAid product, after the one year warranty, if your product last that long, KitchenAid will not care about you. I can obtain the names of persons that I contacted at KitchenAid.

This is my second KitchenAid 6 quart Professional. After owning many of their other mixers, I moved to the Professional 6 quart three years ago. I have already gone through tow of them. With both mixers, the gear wheel completely detached and fell into the mix. I was mixing cookie dough, not cement--one would think it would hold up. One was under warranty so they sent a new one, the second was 18 months old so they would not do a thing. I agree with many of the reviews that there is clearly an issue with this mixer that is not being addressed by KitchenAid. A bit of the "Toyota syndrome." Anyway, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Not one more KitchenAid product will come this large family household. They are junk and their customer service is worst.

KitchenAid's website, www.shopkitchenaid.com is advertising "25% off all stand mixer attachments". However, not all attachments are on sale. Only select attachments, the more expensive ones, are actually on sale. I placed three different attachments in my shopping cart and begun the checkout process. I never saw the 25% discount taken off. Before placing my order, I used the "live chat" feature to ask a customer service rep why I wasn't seeing the discount.
She advised that the discount is taken once the order is placed. I asked her if she was sure and that that didn't sound right. She said it was, so I placed my order and did not get 25% off. Multiple calls with their customer service have failed to resolve the issue. They are fully and openly defending their false advertisement and told me that I should have known by looking at the website that the items that I selected, though they are stand mixer attachments, are not discounted, even though the same website is advertising "25% off all stand mixer attachments". The supervisor went on to add that they have explained this to several customers, so mine is not a unique complaint that they are not aware of.

This is a follow-up to my complaint from October 25, 2010. I would like to report that my faith in humanity has been restored. After sending our Artisan mixer back for repair the second time, KA called about a week later to report that their technician worked on the mixer again and thought he had fixed the problem. He then test-ran the mixer for a few minutes and the problem returned. KA said they didn't know what was wrong with the mixer but offered to replace ours with a brand new (not refurbished) one.
We happily accepted their offer and they said they would ship the mixer via second day air to be sure we would have it by Thanksgiving. It actually showed up 6 days later, but still a couple days before Thanksgiving, so we did at least have it in time for the holiday. Thanks, KithcenAid!
P.S.: My experience with the replacement mixer will determine how likely I am to buy KA products again. If it holds up, I'll feel confident the problem we had was a fluke. If it fails, I'll know KA quality is not what it once was.

When it was time to replace my portable mixer, I went with Consumer Reports' recommendation and purchased a KitchenAid hand mixer. I don't use a mixer very often, so I expected the appliance to last a very long time. After a couple of years, one of the wire blades broke loose from the shaft. I discovered the model had been discontinued, and replacement blades were not available. After hearing my lament, my daughter surprised me with a new KitchenAid KHM9PWH 9-speed professional hand mixer.
Unfortunately, after about a half-dozen uses, the blade on the new mixer also broke! When I called KitchenAid, I was told the mixer was no longer under warranty, and replacement blades would cost $14.95, plus shipping and handling. I could understand why a blade might break loose from the shaft, if the mixer was used often or for heavy-duty use. But I only used it for making an occasional cake.
I am very disappointed in the fragility of the blades in these expensive new mixers! It seems more practical to just buy an inexpensive mixer for the same price as the KitchenAid replacement blades, instead of throwing good money. One thing is for sure: I will never buy another KitchenAid appliance!

We live in France & purchased a KitchenAid Artisan mixer Model No.5KSM150 after many hours researching which was the best all round machine for heavy domestic work. The cost was over 300 sterling. At first, the machine performed satisfactory but gradually the head locking mechanism became loose and would not hold the head down in the locked position. Also when using the dough hook, the head moved side to side.
We contacted KitchenAid who recommended we take the mixer to our nearest repair center for repair under the guarantee. Unfortunately for us this was a two hour drive away. We left the machine with the repair center for a day. We collected the machine and upon trying it out ,the same fault was still there. We returned the machine to the repair center and explained the problem; we left the machine for a further day. Upon collecting the machine and trying it out, the problem still existed.
I traced the Chief Executive officer of KitchenAid in the USA and wrote to him explaining the problem we have, and how to rectify it, There was no reply to our letter. I telephoned KitchenAid in the USA only to be told that they do not reply to end user complaints. I telephoned the KitchenAid factory in Belgium only to be told they do not deal direct with the end user and that I should contact their service center in the UK. Following my conversation with the UK service center, I was told that they could not pay any expenses incurred in taking the machine to a service center which by then had amounted to around 80. They suggested that I send the machine at my cost to them for repair, this I declined to do and asked could they replace my machine with a new one. Yes they could but could not guarantee that the replacement machine would be any better than the one I had.
I explained the problem to them and said that I would inspect new machines in various shops in my area to see if they were any better than mine. To my surprise, some machines were worse than mine and some better. I contacted the UK service center and asked if I could have a full refund of the purchase price. This they agreed to if I sent them a copy of the receipt and this we did. After waiting some two and a half months, we received a cheque and banked it. No mention was made of collecting the mixer from us or what to do with it .As a mechanical engineer, I have repaired the machine and it is now working well.
The moral of this story is don't buy KitchenAid but if you do, ask for your money back and keep the machine. The faults were manufacturing problems with clearances and fits. It would be sensible to think that feedback is all good for all manufacturers as it is the only way he can improve his product. It is demonstrable that KitchenAid do not care about customer satisfaction

I purchased the KitchenAid Professional 600 Stand Mixer in early August 2010. I was upgrading from the UltraPower model because my son enjoys baking bread, a larger motor was called for. After less than 8 weeks of use, the motor is malfunctioning (shutting off after a few minutes of use). But surprise, surprise! We've voided the warranty because my son has been baking pretzels once a week to sell at his father's farmers' market stand (this once-weekly baking session is the only time the mixer has been in use during this period). You see, his pretzels are a commercial venture so the mixer is not covered. So KitchenAid said, "tough luck". This is my third KA mixer, plus I've purchased 3 for wedding gifts. It will be the last one I'll ever buy.

Before we got married, my wife received the black Artisan stand mixer as a gift in 2003. Between the two of us, we used it on average about once a month for cookies, cakes, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. Last year (2009), I started making pizzas and, since this mixer came with a dough hook, it seemed to me that it was designed to mix bread dough. So every couple of weeks, I would whip up a two-pound batch of pizza dough. Nothing major, and certainly nothing I didn't expect this mixer to be able to handle.
After about the 5th or 6th batch, the mixer started making a grinding noise. When I first started hearing it, it wasn't bad and I thought maybe it had always done it and I just didn't notice. With each batch of dough, the noise got worse and when we made a batch of cookies, the noise was there also. So at that point, we knew something was not right. I stopped making my pizzas and after a couple of more batches of cookies, I decided that the mixer needed some repair.
We were well out of warranty and were expecting to pay for the repair, although on a mixer that used to have a reputation for being built to last forever, I held out hope that KA would realize the mixer had not been abused and that the problem was due to a defect. We want them to cut us some slack on the repair. No such luck. KA drilled us for $34.75 to send out the box and shipping label to return the mixer to them for repair.
We sent the mixer in about a week after getting the box and they called us about a week later. They determined that the mixer needed brushes, grease and a gasket. I'm a mechanical engineer and I was pretty sure that the noise I heard coming from the mixer wouldn't be fixed by brushes and I knew that the grease and gasket were routine things that are done any time KA takes a mixer apart.
At any rate, they drilled us for another $53.69 for the repair. Mind you, brushes cost about $0.50 a piece and the KA mixer have two of them. Grease? I don't know the exact type of grease they use, but it can't be more than an ounce or so and $1 an ounce sounds reasonable. And a gasket made of paper. Another $1. So ~$3 in parts then. That means they charged $50 to take the thing apart and put it back together. Fine. They supposedly know what they are doing and will hopefully take care of things if they break it.
We got the mixer back about a week later. There seemed to be a lot of 'crud' in some of the joints where the different parts came together that we didn't remember being there when we sent it in, but it was easy enough to clean and we were glad to have the mixer back, so whatever. We plugged in and and turned it on. We immediately looked at each other and knew the problem had not been fixed. My wife made a couple of cheese cakes just to be sure we weren't being hyper-sensitive to the noise, but even from upstairs, I could hear the noise loud as ever.
I called KA this morning. First of all, their main number was ** up and kept looping me back to the main prompt. I finally got through by telling the system that I had a KA washing machine (which I don't). I waited on hold for 30 minutes just to get transferred to the correct department. The girl I talked to wanted me to turn the mixer on so she could hear it. I was not at home and told her that I just wanted to send it back so they could fix it right. After some hemming and hawing, she agreed to send out another 'kit.' I asked to have the repair expedited and she said that she would see what she could do. I'm not holding my breath. Fortunately, she didn't try to ask for payment so hopefully I won't have to do battle with them over fixing it correctly this time. Assuming they do fix it correctly, that is.
In short, the fact that this mixer didn't last with the measly bit of usage we put it through, combined with KA's overcharging for 'repairs' that are nothing short of incompetent, I have decided that I have no intention of purchasing another KA product.

They said this was not harmful and we could still use safely. I don't think this is a safe thing to use and will definitely not serve anything made with these hooks.
I noticed now, that all the hooks and attachments are finished in paint. I feel Kitchen aid knew they had a problem and changed their process of making these attachments. They should have recalled these other attachments, and exchanged them for new ones. I will never trust or buy another product from this company. Long story short, I called KitchenAid and was told sorry and that the repair is on me. I asked to file a complaint. The CSR said that's fine, but no one will call you back. And they didn't. I filled out the online contact submission on KitchenAid's website.
Audrey * replied with a glib e-mail, saying it is unreasonable to expect mechanical units not to wear out or experience a "breakdown".I don't know about you, but having a large factory press fit part of a mixer drop out of the main unit sounds more like a manufacturer's defect to me!
Bottom line, repair will cost $80-$100 with no guarantee it will hold and the authorized repair center says he sees this a lot. KitchenAid refuses to acknowledge a defective design or manufacturing process, so I am stuck with a split in half mixer.
Audrey * was well trained to buffalo her way around the fact that the machine was defective and skirt the main issue. So it appears KitchenAid's idea of customer service is to pretend that spending $300 on a defective mixer and having it "breakdown" after three years of occasional use is just fine and making the consumer feel like they are idiots for complaining.
I will have to spend $300 for a new mixer. Like so many others, I'm done with KitchenAid products.

I have a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, Model KV25GOXER. I acquired it in 2005. Until this past summer n(2009), I had used it primarily for light mixing projects, and rarely used it (6-9 times a year). However, this summer I used several attachments, in order to complete some canning projects. In particular, I used the grinder and the shredder. I had not used the shredder long not even an hour, when it stopped working. We called customer service and we were told the gears were stripped, but the representative was not helpful or apologetic in any way.
Apparently, this was a common problem, and the representative had been pre-coached to blame us for the problem. Further, the representative said we would have to pay at least $150 to have it assessed and repaired. After additional research regarding the mixer, we now understand that this is a design defect. The gears are plastic, not metal.
And there is not automatic stop in it to prevent the gears from stripping (ie. like most blenders have). My husband took off the housing to ascertain whether the gears were stripped as we had been told, and they were. Now, I have a mixer that is rendered useless due to the stripping of the gears, along with all the attachments that I am not able to use. Further, the defective design is the cause.
I have even sent back the mixer but Kitchen Aid just stands behind the facade of its one-year warranty and ignores the fact that there is a design defect. Countless consumers relying on this brand name should be aware of this problem.

We received a KitchenAid Classic Stand Mixer in December 08 as a wedding gift. We used this mixer for cake mixes and icings, maybe 20 times since we received it. We recently decided to make bread, and having started to mix 5 cups of flour in a mixer which claims to be able to have an 8 cup capacity, we noticed a strong burning smell. Suddenly the mixer started to smoke! There was such a horrible burning smell in the whole house, and we were so concerned that we had ruined a mixer we had waited so long to get. I called KitchenAid and they advised me to unplug the unit and stop using it because it is poses a hazard if it is smoking. They refuse to exchange it for us because it is outside their 1 year warranty.
But what is more concerning is that they did not want to take responsibility for one of their appliances suddenly bursting into smoke under normal use. You would think that reports like this would be taken seriously and investigated to ensure that they don't have a potential recall situation on their hands. The Customer Experience center supervisor I spoke with claims, they have never had a report of a stand mixer smoking as ours had, but from what I am reading on the net, this seems to be a common problem when people try to mix bread dough or heavier cookie batters.
People are purchasing these mixers with the belief that they can manage heavier demands that a hand mixer can't and are finding their mixer incapable of handling the demands they are represented as being able to handle. This sounds like gross misrepresentation to me. If I wanted just a mixer to handle light batters, I would have stuck with my hand mixer. If anyone else has experienced similar problems with their KitchenAid mixer, could you please email me at **?

On November 26th, 2009, I purchased a KitchenAid mixer online from Boston Store. A $30 rebate was being offered, plus the price was discounted. I completed the rebate form and other proofs of purchase such as barcode etc. and sent it in a pre-addressed envelope provided. On 2/15/10, I spoke with a customer service representative. She stated my name was not in their system and asked that I re-submit all the information. This I did. Still, I heard no word as to when or if I'll receive the $30.

I went to clean my KitchenAid beater and take it off and as I held the beater and pushed the mixer back. I accidentally hit the side switch which turned it on with my hand in the beater. I have been off work for 3 months now and I feel as though this is a defect. They need to put a stop switch on this item, so no one else gets hurt like I did my finger and hand will never be the same again.
I was hoping that they would make it better so that this would not happen especially to a young child. I realize that it should have been unplugged but things do happen and the switch is in a bad place and the caution on it. You can't even read and what about a blind person what would happen if they used it. I would never buy another as they would and will not help me out with me being off work so long and all the medical bills. Thought about going to out local channels and letting them investigate it. I will never buy or use this Kitchen aid product or nor any of their products as they have no one in mind but themselves that is for sure!

I too unknowingly bought a refurbished KitchenAid mixer, which worked about four times before not breaking down! Check the underneath of your mixer as soon as you open the box to ensure that there isn't a refurbish date and order number and someone's initials written there! The motor works but the mixer doesn't mix, probably a stripped PLASTIC gear.
KitchenAid won't replace it because it was more than one year since date of purchase. I am terribly disappointed as well about this formerly reliable American company. I am going to try to fix it myself using the internet to find product diagrams and How-to's and hopefully spend little money. It's a throw-away machine as is so might as well try. I used to think I just got a lemon but after reading all these complaints, I am rethinking that decision. Very expensive for 4 or 5 uses!

Typical of all the complaints already posted - I exchanged most of my wedding presents from Macy's so that I could buy a big KitchenAid mixer - my dream gift. The bread dough incident described herein (all over this board) happened to me. The mixer turns on but won't move. The cost to look at it from KitchenAid -- $150.00 plus shipping. Or I can take it to a service center. I live in Atlanta - a major metropolitan area, and the closest service center? Orlando, FL.
Well, I guess I needed a good reason to go to Disney. And cost? $100.00 to look at it. This after that lovely story about wonderful KitchenAid mixers still made in the USA and going strong despite the recession. Well I am glad they're doing so well. It was a tough year for us so our mixer will just have to be a decoration. Too bad it was doing so much helping us get through these tough times by making homemade pizza dough every week, cupcakes, cookies and other things for school fundraisers.

I purchased a KitchenAid mixer and within the first few months the machine would shut off in the middle of mixing our bread dough. I called the service center and the machine was replaced with no cost to me. This second machine is having the exact same problem as the first, and has been for the past year. It has now been 3 years since the machine was replaced and now the company will not warranty their product.
Why would a company offer a 1-year warranty on a $300+ machine and claim that they stand behind their products? Do they expect consumers to replace their mixers every year? Clearly there is a defect in the machine that they are not addressing. I am frustrated that I threw my money down the drain. I bought a Bosch and I can't say enough about it. Fabulous product! We will never go back to KitchenAid.

I bought the KitchenAid Custom White Diamond Edition (5 quart lift up bowl) about 10 years ago. It came with a coupon for a second bowl engraved with my name. I used it once or twice a week, especially for bread dough until last week. I had my bread dough in the bowl and the machine suddenly started stopping and starting and making a horrible, loud noise. Then it just quit. It will not turn on anymore. My husband tried to open it to see if there was an obvious problem like a broken gear or belt that we could replace ourselves. Of course there was the last bolt that held it together that was most definitely glued/soldered in place so that he couldn't get it opened. This predicates that you take it to a repair shop, which I have noticed from other complaints, will cost at least half the price of a new machine.
My mother-in-law has had her KitchenAid for over 50 years. She uses it every week and it has never given her a problem, never! Considering the cost of a new KitchenAid and the obvious lack of quality regarding the models from at least 10 years ago to the present, you can bet that I will not consider a new one to replace this one. Now I know why they added a second bowl to the reduced price I paid for my KitchenAid. Sorry, KitchenAid. A gift of a more than $60 bowl does not make up for a shoddy product, especially one that sets the buyer back between $250 and $400 a shot. I will be doing my research and buying a different stand mixer. My two KitchenAid bowls will be doing new tricks with a handheld mixer, etc., as they do not fit any of the newer models.

My husband purchased a KitchenAid Pro 6 stand mixer for me for Christmas. I used it maybe 7 or 8 times. When I went to use it this Christmas, it was completely dead. Of course, it was out of warranty and KitchenAid consumer desk gave me a list of 3 places to have it repaired. Upon calling the closest one, I found out it would cost $169.00 to repair no matter what they found. After reading all the complaints about oil dripping and such, I decided to do my homework on my next stand mixer. I will never purchase a KitchenAid product as I feel I was totally sucked in like everyone else by buying the more expensive professional series.

My daughter, aged 30, plugged the KitchenAid mixer to make cupcakes for a school party the next day. While carrying it out of the pantry, she must have turned it on by accident. When she plugged it in, it caught her hair and pulled her into the revolving stem. I leaned over her to pull the plug out. The whole incident lasted 3 seconds. I started rewinding the stem and told her that she should be free in a few seconds. She said, "Mom, it's not my hair I'm worried about, it's my hand!" I looked on the floor and there was quite a bit of blood. She had put her hand up to stop the stem from pulling her hair. When I looked, I thought she might lose her finger. We got in the car to go to the hospital when she felt her hair where the tangle was and pulled out her hair. She has a bald spot about the size of a silver dollar and 3 quarters going back. It turns out her finger is broken in three places.

It is disturbing that a product with an obvious manufacturer defect or design defect cannot be covered by KitchenAid. I, too, purchased the Professional KitchenAid lift-up bowl. It was used 4 times in two years and the cheap plastic speed regulator broke off. The warranty was up, I purchased the same $100 cheaply made plastic repair part (required replacement part) over the internet and installed it with the exact instructions supplied. Upon plugging it in and not turning the switch on, the new board went up in smoke. Where are the recalls on this product? They make junk at the consumers' expense, and I will never purchase or recommend a KitchenAid product again. I'm very angry and a very disenchanted customer and out $300+.

I have had a KitchenAid Classic stand mixer, model K45SS WH, serial #3494821. Despite the slower numbered speeds, it seems that it can only start on speed 3, which throws the food all over the counter. Also, most importantly, it oozes greasy, smelly oil from where the beaters are attached and goes into the food. If you are making anything white, it will be completely speckled with gray/green flecks of oil. I certainly cannot be the only person with this problem.

Approximately 5 years ago, I purchased a KitchenAid bowl lift stand mixer, model KP26M1XPM. I already owned a KitchenAid mixer, but it was over 30 years old and while it performed perfectly, it did not look good in my renovated kitchen. I gave the old one to my daughter and it is still working while mine has burned out the motor twice. I took it to be repaired about 8 months ago because it was making a terrible noise. The repair shop, Appliance Fix It, said the plastic motor parts were bad and replaced the parts, unfortunately, with more plastic since that was what was required. Less than 3 months later, the noise returned and I went back to Appliance Fix It. It was once again repaired, this time it was still under the shop warranty and there was no cost to me. It continues to make a terrible noise and I will eventually buy a new one.
I contacted KitchenAid several times by email and phone and they said there were no problems. However, I notice all their ads indicate all metal components now which is the way my old model was built. If there were no problems, why did they ditch the plastic and returned to metal parts? I asked for a voucher towards a new one and it was denied. I paid $150 for repairs on a relatively new mixer and will eventually need to replace because the motor will burn up.

Summer of 2006, I purchased a KitchenAid Professional 575W 6 Qt stand mixer based on the brand reputation at that time. My wife and daughter began using it during the holidays that year and commented that with sticky doughs, the beaters were pulled down and out. I suggested spraying them with vegetable oil spray which seemed to work. During the holiday season in 2008, my daughter told me that the beaters had stopped rotating and there was a "weird" noise coming from the mixer. I removed the motor cover and discovered that the gearbox housing was cracked in multiple places allowing the gears to ride up and slip. Upon contacting KitchenAid, I was informed that the mixer was no longer under warranty and I could have it repaired by the closest facility, 150 miles away. Having been a mechanic, I knew that I could replace the $25 part. I found out that the original part had been replaced with what seems to be a heavier duty casting. I don't know if it will suffice, but if it doesn't, I will have a very expensive boat anchor. I will tell all I know not to buy KitchenAid products, nor will I ever buy that brand again.

I have owned a large KitchenAid stand mixer my husband bought me several years ago. From the first time, it sounded like it was working very hard when mixing anything with any thickness and dripped oil from around the beaters. Because of this, I have used it infrequently and thought I would get it repaired at some point. Today, I googled KitchenAid repair and came across this site. After reading the previous comments, I have decided it is not worth the effort and will dispose of it. I recently furnished a new kitchen and purchased a KitchenAid dishwasher. I am now sorry I did.

We owned a regular KitchenAid stand mixer for 13 years and loved it. But when we decided to upgrade to a heavy duty lift-stand mixer, we've been very disappointed! I do not recommend these “heavy duty mixers” to anyone who likes to cook using whole wheat. They can't handle double batches of 100% whole wheat bread. They can't handle the food grinder attachment for grinding wheat sprouts or making whole wheat pasta. At first, it handles bread dough beautifully, but the gears start “popping” after a year or so. And by then your warranty is expired. It's very discouraging to spend $400 for a mixer that can't do any more than the smaller, less expensive, models. These are not heavy duty mixers. You have to “baby” them more than the smaller mixers. Beware, wheat-savvy-cooks. This is not the appliance for you. The repair center says it will be a minimum of $75 or so to fix our gears. Plus, I can no longer make whole wheat bread (I must use white flour, too). I no longer dare use the food grinder attachment (which was $75!) because I don't want to go through this repair again!

The KitchenAid Pro 600 Mixer - This is the 3rd one I have had to send back to KitchenAid. The weight of the dough pulls the actuator, the thing that holds the beats in down out of the base. KitchenAid customer service was decent in replacing it the first time and then got an attitude when I had to resend it back. Now, this is the 3rd mixer from them and the same damn thing. They need to put a screw in, to hold the mechanics in, like they do on their smaller mixers.
