Nice looking oven, but it Shuts down randomly - F44 code. Had it replaced in less than a month after purchasing it NEW and the replacement does the exact same thing. SUCKS! We do not want this computerized **. Just give me a manual operated oven! We are going to have to get something other than this oven.

Our 6-year old Kenmore 790 electric range made a "pop" noise and began emitting acrid electrical smoke the other night (2/26/2015). A repair person was dispatched today and we were told that the range requires $575 worth of repairs, which cannot be performed until March 10th. At that point we will have been without an oven or stove for nearly 2 weeks. I am absolutely furious that after just a little research, I find that Sears has been selling a faulty piece of junk. Had I not been in the room to turn off the oven, pull it away from the wall and unplug it, the stupid piece of crap could have burned down my house!!!! I am filing a complaint with CPSC and will make sure that I spread the word every place I can to ensure that everyone knows that Sears is selling a lemon. Not. Cool.

Range was delivered 1 week ago. I have tried multiple bake and roast menus. It takes 50% more time than recipes call for. This includes recipes I have used many times more. I'm afraid to try anything important ie: for company, roast, turkeys. We had a repairman out today to test temp. He said it was right on. Cooked chicken tonight, supposed to take 25 minutes, took 40. What's going on?

I purchased a Kenmore gas range model 79071153705 in April of 2010 and in Nov of 2014 the oven and the broiler stopped getting hot, wouldn't heat up whatsoever. This is totally unacceptable! I didn't spend a good chunk of money on a major kitchen appliance for it to crap out within 5 years. I expected it to last 20-25 years. I have been without an oven for 3 mos now because I can't afford to get it fixed, which probably wouldn't be worth it because a repairman would charge an arm and a leg to fix it, and I can't afford a new range right now. I do know this, when I do buy a new range it won't be Kenmore. Kenmore stinks!!!

Well the plastic disk in the roof of my oven is melting and has burn marks. We don't have a warranty or service contract with Sears so they want to charge us $249 to come and LOOK at it. Hello, our microwave is melting and burning inside and this is OUR issue? Sounds like a serious defect. Someone wrote in the Sears website with the same question and it was never answered. So I know I can't be alone in this melting disk microwave issue. Kenmore, WTH!? Will NOT buy from Sears or Kenmore.

I too have a Kenmore stove (Model #C970-648229) with falling racks! I have e-mailed Sears with no solutions. I've been to their store where the stove was purchased. They even took a rack and have never returned it. They have suggested I pay for a service call to have an agent come out to tell me what the problem is... I know what the problem is - the racks no longer fit the oven! Apparently I have found out it has something to do with the lining of the walls in the oven??? Every time I have my oven on to bake something I hear this crash and the racks have fallen and my item being baked ends up spilling all over the oven. I am very, very frustrated with this. I will never buy anything from Sears again!!! And it seems they don't want to deal with this problem!! Has anyone received relief?

Pizza oven (721.66993 011) still works but the microwave turntable will not turn and will not heat. I also bought a Kenmore washer and dryer from Sears and got the extended warranty. I was told after they have been to my house more than 4 times they could not give me a new set because they switched companies that handled their warranty work and they could only see where they have been to my house once. It's takes 4 times to be able to get a new set. So now I'm stuck with a piece of junk that doesn't clean well or dry well.

We purchased the Kenmore Elite Double Oven Gas Range Model 790 in Nov. 2011 & contrary to our usual approach, bought the 3-year extended warranty in part because the stove was expensive, being "on sale" for almost $1800. On Oct 30, 2014, the oven would not heat & a technician replaced the upper oven bake ignitor. Whew!...we thought. Lucky for us we had the extended warranty. But wait...on Feb. 9, 2015, with the extended warranty expired by about 2 1/2 months, the oven was turned on for use. While waiting for it to pre-heat, the oven started beeping wildly, then a terrible electrical burning smell flooded the house. My husband raced to the kitchen to see flames shooting out of the vents in the back. He managed to get the fire out and the gas turned off. The entire backside of wires was charred.
We took photos & went to Sears where the Manager told us there was nothing he could do. He said it was up to the Service (1-800-4-MY HOME). We were incredulous that Sears does not have its own managers making these types of customer service decisions, but rather that the repair service to which they contact has that authority! I reminded him this was not a "user error" in that we did not set off a grease fire, but that the stove CAUGHT ON FIRE! We suggested that we thought Sears should take that very seriously, as a house fire could have resulted. He went on to repeat that Service would charge us to come out to verify & assess the damage & likely offer us no satisfaction. We previously bought appliances from Sears, but no longer. All our friends are incredulous that Sears is not replacing this stove.

Purchased a ceramic top Kenmore stove in July 2011. Model #790-92303012. Worked fine until 1/31/2015. Preheated the oven to 350 degrees to bake a pizza. The top surface of the stove was not in use. The pizza had been in the stove for 2 or 3 minutes when the stove began to make screeching noises. The control panel completely lit up, then most of it went dark and smoke began to curl up from the back of the stove. Flames shot up from the back but quickly died away, however the smoke grew more intense.
I was able to quickly jerk the stove away from the wall and pull the plug, killing the power. Noticed as I did so that the electrical wires inside the back panel (visible through the slots in the back) were glowing orange. There was smoke damage to the wall behind the stove and the kitchen and half the house had that electrical fire smell - which lingered for a few days. With the power gone and the fuel source (the insulation of the wires) consumed the fire was contained. The stove was obviously shot.
Contacted Sears that evening and was given a number to call and was eventually given a claim number. Everyone connected with Sears has been polite but so far there has been no meaningful response, and it is doubtful they will accept any responsibility. Too bad, we have been loyal customers owning a Kenmore refrigerator and a Kenmore Elite microwave.
We are fortunate that our homeowners insurance will assist with the purchase of a replacement stove. But Sears Kenmore has a major engineering defect that is inexcusable. After reading comments from other unsatisfied customers there are numerous and more serious hazards connected with Kenmore products. I would not feel safe purchasing a Kenmore stove as a replacement and could not recommend them to anyone.

The clock would mysteriously reset as if a power outage had occurred. This happened for several weeks and then the control panel for the oven went dark and oven is UNUSABLE!!! So we call Sears for a warranty call out and the guy opens the back of the stove and discovers a bug back there that apparently shorted the board out and says he can't fix it and it won't be covered by the WARRANTY. This part is an electronic board that is not sealed in any way and will short out very easily again AT A COST OF $145.00 EACH after I spent almost a thousand on this stove. What really irritated me is even if I wanted to PAY for the repairs they would not do it. This stove is a piece of CRAP and I WILL NOT EVER RECOMMEND OR PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM SEARS!!! KENMORE/SEARS APPLIANCES SUCK.

I purchased a Kenmore gas range in Oct 2013: model#79036903 905 Serial #NF33430475. My complaints are many with this range, but the most difficult is removing the storage bin to clean the floor under the range. It entails super dexterity to pull up the clip on the left while holding down the clip on the right, at the same time pulling the draw outward. This can only be done if you straddle the draw. These clips are located on the far inner sides of the draw. Once the draw is out, there is a bar across the front that makes it difficult to get to the crud that gathers under that bar. Sears needs to rethink this design. I always purchased appliances from them. In the last few years, I am very dissatisfied with their products.

My fiancee whose name the appliance is listed under {Diane ** they assumed I was Mr. **} purchased a Sears Kenmore elite gas range model 79075343310 in October 2013. It has been used roughly a dozen times if that. Well on 1/26/15 we had made a pizza and were enjoying it when we heard a large pop. Upon investigation we discovered that the inner door glass had exploded and shattered. It was contained inside by the front and back panels. I figured because the warranty was only expired by three months that Sears would foot the bill for repairs. Not so!
Their argument was warranty had expired. Okay understand that but when the hell have you ever heard of oven door glass exploding simply by using the oven. Definitely one for Ralph Nader. Ridiculous. What if it had been the outer glass with a toddler or family pet walking by. Believe Sears like the rest of iconic American businesses continue to sell us down the river with inferior products.

Kenmore Range model 970-67843 - Hello, We are hoping that you can help us resolve our defective Kenmore range, which we purchased new from Sears in Kelowna, BC 4 years ago. We have always purchased Kenmore appliances, and have always been happy with them. So when we lost our home to a fire in 2009, and rebuilt it, we once again, purchased all Kenmore appliances including Frigidaire manufactured range and fridge.
We felt confident that we were buying a quality product, but did purchase the 3 year extended warranty as well, which has of course, expired. Then this Thanksgiving, Oct 2014, we had just about finished cooking our Thanksgiving dinner when we heard a buzzing noise and saw black smoke coming from the back to the range. We turned it off and the next day, turned the oven on, only to find that it did not work at all. The cooktop does work still. We called Sears only to be told that the warranty was expired and we were out of luck.
So we took the range to a repair service, who told us that it would cost us at least $500.00 to fix the oven. This does not seem right, when our appliance is only four years old. Clearly there was a manufacturing defect. We cannot afford to buy a new range, or pay hundreds of dollars to fix this one, and we are asking Frigidaire, as the manufacturer, to stand behind your product. We have been without an oven for two months now, and that is not an easy thing at this time of year. Please respond and let us know that we can feel confident in our purchase. This stove is not only defective, but dangerous, and should be recalled.

We purchased our new Kenmore Elite stove and had it delivered in November 2010 for our new home. By December 2011, we had to get the control panel for the stove fixed. A few months later, we had to call them again to fix the same problem. At both times, it was under warranty as we had purchased extended warranty. By October 2014, I was baking chicken in the oven at 350. I took the chicken out of the oven, closed the oven door, reached for a fork to turn the chicken and the oven suddenly just exploded. There was shattered glass everywhere popping on the floor like popcorn. The experience was extremely frightening and thank God there were no small children or pets around at the time. After the initial shock, we contacted Sears and only received apologies. We were fluffed off as it was no longer under warranty. We have not purchased a new one as yet but would never buy another Kenmore product again. We have shared this experience with our family and friends who are equally as shocked!

I purchased the Kenmore double oven for about $1,500 on Nov. 2, 2012 and the control panel shorted out on Jan. 2, 2014, just two months over the factory warranty. The cost of repair is $450. I have no idea why the panel shorted out in the first place, so I have no idea if it is going to happen again. The design of the oven is such that the vent from the top oven is directly adjacent to the control panel. I purposely never used the self-cleaning feature because I wasn't comfortable heating the oven up to the high temperatures required to clean it. I would not buy this oven again.

I purchased a Kenmore gas range from Sears in July 2010 based on good experience with a previous Kenmore stove. From the start the Kenmore model 790 made loud booming noises when using the oven. No explosions just a noise that made me fearful of using the oven and definitely reduced my use of it. I returned from holiday vacation to a stove leaking gas with the eyes turned off. The local gas company conducted an inspection and declared the stove dangerous and unsafe. Now the stove sits in my kitchen with a red tag labeled dangerous. I purchased a Kenmore oven and the racks keep falling while cooking. I called the Sears outlet store where I purchased the oven and was told to try buying new oven racks. I purchased new oven racks through Sears and still while cooking a turkey the same problem existed with new racks. It caused a grease fire and I was burnt. After several calls to Sears I finally spoke to a corporate person who sent a repairman out at Sears expense. The Repairman said he could not fix the problem the oven walls were defective. The serviceman immediately called Sears from my home on his cell phone and I was offered 20% off a new oven if I purchased from Sears.
I told the corporate person I would not accept that offer of 20% and that my oven is only three years old. It should last at least 15 years and would be talking to his supervisor on the next business day. I also told him I was going to seek legal advice, expose Sears through our local news station in the SF Bay Area if this issue was not resolved. I'm shocked that this has taken so many phone calls and a service call and I still was offered 20% off a new oven and not a replacement oven. I have purchased numerous appliances through Sears and never received a run around such as this. This is a Health and Safety issue. I see other complaints such as mine online regarding wall ovens purchased through Sears. We should all seek legal help and expose Sears on the way they are handling their health and safety issues.

I purchased a Kenmore Range in July 2014 and I am very disappointed with the range. My first complaint is concerning the design of the double pane window. With all the advancements made with cooking techniques, why has Kenmore not figured out how to prevent grease from seeping in between the double panel glass front. And most importantly, how do I clean it without violating my warranty? My second complaint is concerning the poofing sound the gas makes to maintain the heating level set on the stove. It annoys me greatly. Last complaint the electric ignition on the power burner does not work consistently. I called for service and the technician stated a new cap will be ordered and mailed to me; another visit may be necessary to take the stove apart to adjust the gas intake and there is nothing can be done about the grease seeping in between the double-paned glass panel.

We purchased $6,000 worth of Kenmore appliances in 2013 for our new kitchen. The inside sticker in the microwave indicates it was manufactured in China in July of 2013. On December 14, 2014, I opened the microwave and discovered the inside glass on the door had shattered for no obvious reason. I was not using the microwave. I had been cooking on the stove top, but have no idea why it would have shattered, unless there was too much heat? This is obviously a manufacturing defect but when I called Sears, they required I purchase at $259 warranty, even though the product had been installed 14 months ago. This is on top of a two-year-old top load high efficiency washer that won't start without unplugging and replugging in the power source and a refrigerator with an ice maker that was installed wrong and caused much damage from the water leaking. It is Model # C 970-418232, Serial # NF70817966. We have had the racks fall in the middle of baking something NUMEROUS times, finally with one incidence causing a serious burn. This is unacceptable! I have read that others have had the same issues, but there have been no resolutions as of yet. It is not under warranty anymore, and I don't think that this should be called a warranty issue, but should be recalled due to the risk of VERY SERIOUS burns, items breaking when rack falls, etc!!! We should be able to SAFELY use ANY of our oven racks on ANY of the shelf levels! My mother has also been burned by our oven, and my children are forbidden to use it! Has ANYONE been compensated for this problem? Has Sears ever replaced any of the racks and given the owner the correct size? We were told by Sears that they could send out a repairman for $240. My husband removed the digital controls and you can plainly see the part that caught fire. He took it to our local Sears and the manager said it would not have been covered under warranty anyway because all that covers is the "drive train" of the stove. Basically the shell, since this isn't a car we are talking about. He said he could order the part for $109 and it would take 5-7 days to come in. We told him we thought Sears should cover that cost and they would not. In the past 20 years we have completely furnished two kitchens from Sears in an attempt to keep the company afloat. My mother is a veteran of WWII but may be defeated by her Sears Kenmore oven. She has a model 790 in wall oven which is an obvious lemon. It will frequently fail to complete a cycle (shuts off before cooking is done) and has ruined several batches of food. The problem appears to be a computer control module. While I was there over the thanksgiving holiday it abruptly locked up (as though about to go into self clean mode) with the holiday turkey inside. Fortunately we were able to locate the plug and unplug the thing (which still did not unlock the oven, but at least the dinner was not incinerated). We were worried about a fire and are grateful that it did not happen while we were out of the room.
She has had at least four failures in the last year, but since the problem is intermittent (only once was it still malfunctioning when the tech arrived) it can't be verified for warranty replacement. The available service calls are limited to two days a week by the company Sears contracted with, so almost impossible to get the problem solved. Calls to Sears for repairs are often unreturned. Parts are apparently hard to come by (the control module was replaced, for example, but the part was ordered in February, arrived in August). Really disappointed in Sears... I was raised as a Sears customer, but am alienated by the way they treated my mom and disgusted by the drop in reliability. Used to think I could count on them, but no more.

I purchased a Sears (Kenmore) Electric Convection Range Model 790 9746. I was told that it was top of line quality, "Sears" dependable and would last many years. My parents had had good experience with Kenmore products so I believed what I was told. What a mistake! I have nothing but continuing problems with the Sears Electric Range. The electronic oven control "motherboard" has had to be replaced three (3) times because it keeps malfunctioning. I was told by the last repairman that it was because a design defect in the range caused the motherboard to overheat & fail. I called Sears and they just blew me off. I am going to try one more time before hiring a lawyer.
It is sad to see how far Sears has fallen. At one time, it was #1 in quality and customer service. Its quality has deteriorated badly. Its "customer service" is essentially non-existent. It's lack of customer service will cause it to lose more and more customers like me. I didn't mind paying a lot of money but it was fair to expect a quality product and prompt customer service for any problems. Instead, I got a lemon which I am told has a product design and Sears seems to care less. Whatever the cause may be, I am sick and tired of paying to have motherboards replaced. All I wanted was a dependable electric range. So, buyer beware!!!

I live in the CA central valley and have good air conditioning but it heats up my whole kitchen, running for up to 30 minutes after the oven/broiler has shut off. The manual confirms that heat from the oven comes thru the vent. I have never had a gas oven that does this. I paid $1274.99 plus tax & delivery for the stove in December of 2011 when remodeling. I had hoped for a good stove to last for a long time. Secondly, when you set the oven for 350 Degrees, it runs so cold that I have to set it up to at least 375 to complete the baking. I've burn my hand twice, and my nieces and nephews are not allowed to use the oven. MY mother is 75 and had not had a new stove ever and she saved up years to buy this piece of **!!! VERY DANGEROUS OVEN. HOW COULD THEY NOT RECALL THIS DANGEROUS OVEN???? IT is a BIG safety hazard. Last year we called Sears and they would not help in any way. If we had not been in the kitchen this would be a different story. I call Sears, oh they want me to pay to have them come look at it, I don't think so! The earliest they can come to look at it is DECEMBER 2nd, Wait that is a week and a half! They told me that I can't get it replaced without me paying for it even if it is faulty wires. I have never owned a stove that I loathe as much as I do the Kenmore glass top stove that we have. Every week without fail, the handle comes apart, causing the glass door and white casing to fall to the ground and I have to screw the entire door and handle back on. We aren't rough with this appliance. It's a piece of junk, period. Another thing is that the cooking elements don't provide consistent heat. If I want to boil water to make a cup of tea, I swear I have to wait five minutes before the water in the kettle comes to a boil. I really detest this stove and I am counting the days until it finally gives up the ghost so I can buy a decent stove.

My Kenmore range was purchased in 2010 and since then, the outside glass on the oven has blown out twice, once when the oven had not even been used. The most recent incident was Nov. 15, 2014. The oven made a loud popping noise then glass shot out everywhere. The model is 790-92803010. Sears was no help and refused to view this as a safety issue when this happened the first time in June of 2012, so I contacted the Better Business Bureau and was eventually reimbursed for the cost of new glass on the oven. How could this possibly happen again? I don't see a recall on this oven and suspect there is something wrong with the seal on the door. Thanksgiving is in less than two weeks and I have to cook for 15 people!! I am disgusted with the service and this product. Furthermore, the ice make is not working on my Kenmore Elite refrigerator.

He told us this was the 4th or 5th Oven he had seen leaking like ours. We called Sears to have the oven exchanged and they setup another delivery for a few days later. After waiting about an hour or so after their so called "scheduled delivery" was suppose to be I called to find out where they were. The delivery consultant informed us that the new oven they were suppose to deliver was also damaged and that they needed to reschedule another delivery.
Sears couldn't even be bothered to call and let us know. At this point we are just trying to get a refund. Enough is enough. Trying to navigate Sears customer service seems to be a battle all on its own. It's no wonder with customer service this terrible why the company is such a bad financial situation. My husband and I went to Sears appliance in Clifton March 6, 2014. The salesperson was rushing to make a sale, but we insisted on asking questions like, "Can the microwave be used with the rack that is inside it?" He told us they sell them with the rack because it can be used with the rack. We paid $400 for the Kenmore 'over the range' microwave oven. We even purchased the extended warranty. With both the manufacturer's warranty and the extended warranty we felt safe.
Well, the microwave caught on fire and when we called we got a royal run-around for 3 hours. Sears blamed the manufacturer, the manufacturer blamed Sears, then Sears blamed me for using the microwave. The consumer is now blamed for using the appliance as the sales person said it could be used. This microwave has a rack to be used when cooking. It worked well for 6 months, then it caught on fire. When we asked about the warranty and manual, it turns out that the consumer is at fault no matter what happens.
My house could have caught on fire. I have a microwave oven that should not be sold because of its tendency to catch on fire or "blow up". The techs used the words 'blow up', not me. It is a fire hazard. Sears will neither replace nor will they repair the microwave. The people at Sears don't know that Kenmore is a part of that company and that they have the same numbers. It's ridiculous. I took pictures of the charred section. I thought Sears was better than that. I guess the best suggestion is don't buy microwave ovens from Sears. I checked other reviews and they all give terrible reviews. I should have read those first.

Often as low as 219 degrees. Countless meals were ruined. Sears phone service providers were painfully sympathetic and scheduled 8 appointments over the last year and a half. Control boards were replaced, recalibrations were made and each time the service person pronounced the oven fine.
But each time we try to cook something in the oven it is ruined because the temperature drops. I've never had this problem with any other gas range I've had (I'm 62) so it's really puzzling. Now that I've read the other comments about the ovens, I will be super careful and am considering just getting another gas range. I think this is the way this thing is designed. Quite frankly, I find the lack of empathy or willingness to stand behind a $400 product is quite pathetic in this day and age. I have purchased $25 used microwaves from garage sales in my younger years that lasted 10+ years. The simply truth is that Kenmore does not stand behind it's products nor do they care if they fail, which is stating the fact that they produce inferior quality products at the expense of the consumer. So much for purchasing a "Name Brand". I strongly recommend never purchasing from this company unless you want to risk spending the same money every few years, which I cannot and will not. This was the answer I got after several days of the run around with Sears saying it is a Kenmore problem and Kenmore telling me they are owned by Sears and it is a Sears problem. When the installer that is contracted out by Sears installed my new range, he talked me into buying a new plug for $50.00, and then left the box that the new range came in for me to dispose of in my trash. He did take the old range, and said he would dispose of it by scraping it. They usually get about $25.00 for scrap. Most of my Sears appliances have needed repair work within the first two years. I bought a Kenmore gas range from Sears in Sept. 2012. I recently tried to use the broiler and the self cleaning features (not at the same time of course). When using these features, the range produced an extreme amount of a chemical smelling smoke that filled my house and set off my smoke detectors. I called a technician and was told that the unit was burning off a cutting oil that is used in the manufacturing process and that the smoke was perfectly normal. REALLY??? My husband has asthma and has had to leave the house because of the smoke. I can't get anyone from Sears of Kenmore to help me. I am incurring costs like crazy trying to get this mess cleaned up, paying for my husband's hotel and paying a company to come in and run air scrubbers. I have also had to remove the stove from the house in order to reduct the smell of toxins and now I have no way to cook for my family.

We purchased $10,000 worth of Kenmore Elite kitchen appliances, including a microwave. Within a few months after purchase, the handle began to corrode. It became worse and the coating is almost completely worn off. When I was finally able to call customer service, the microwave was outside of the one-year warranty. I had the worst customer service experience I have ever had with a company. I was on the phone 2 hours and transferred 9 times. No one would replace the handle unless I paid full price for a new handle or paid $250 for an extra warranty! Very disappointing - do not purchase Sears/Kenmore Elite.

Bought our Oven 2009 (Kenmore Elite)... Dec 2013 turned on the Clean Oven, and after two hours heard a loud pop. Could not open oven, because it was on clean. When we did, found a hole in the bottom of the oven and you could see the heating element. The light wasn't working, and our outside panel was only half working. Called Sears repair, and said would cost $950 to fix ($500 for labor). I said that this was dangerous, that my oven basically exploded on CLEAN feature. He said I know, most of my calls are because of the SELF Clean. He told me Self Clean, Self destruct. He said he won't let his wife use the self clean because of the problems it causes with ovens. He makes his wife clean the old fashion way because of all the problems he has seen. He said there were no recalls, and he couldn't give me a discount. He asked if I had the extended warranty problem. I said no... but this shouldn't be happening. He said he agrees, but he was only the service man.
I am really disappointed that this is considered normal... and it is a big hazard... I am now in the process of finding a new oven... and believe me it won't be Sears... and wanting an oven without self clean... That feature should be taken off... It is amazing how much more you spend on an oven with that feature, a feature that can blow up your oven. The pride sure has gone out of American Made Products... Just venting... no pun intended.

It seems that either they are smaller or the oven is bigger. I have learned that to repair this problem I need a new oven liner. I have read that this is no small job and that it needs to be repaired by a repairman. We are talking somewhere between $400 and up to fix this. It sounds like a defect. I have had nothing but trouble with ALL Kenmore appliances from the control panels falling out - cheap plastic clips that held the panel on melted off and broke; can't be fixed and expensive parts to inept service personnel from Sears that can't fix the problem, show up late or not at all; repeated calls to customer service, the run-around from department to department, dropped calls and no results. Oven doors explode - can't use the self-clean cycle because the walls expand and the racks no longer fit and the glass top cracks. Refrigerator ice maker plastic piece breaks off and 6 months to get a part!
Nothing is made to last more than 12 months. I hate Sears and Kenmore products, will never shop there again and am sick of paying exorbitant fees for cheap, subgrade plastic products that are made in China. We will all be reduced to cooking over a fire in the backyard. NEVER BUY KENMORE APPLIANCES - don't stand behind their products even with a warranty and an extended warranty. I purchased a Sears Kenmore elite glass top range in the December 2009. Just before Thanksgiving 2013 my mom had cook dinner using one of the burners on top. My sister and I were visiting with her and we left after she finished eating. She went to bed at that time and we left her alone in her house. About an hour later her dog woke her up and she realize that something was very wrong. She grabbed her dog and her cell phone and went outside. She called 911 and the fire department and the paramedics came. Her home was filled with carbon monoxide and the dog actually saved her life by waking her up.
Even though my sister had checked the stove after she cooked dinner for my mother, the oven had turned on by itself while she was asleep. The Oven had not been used more than two or three times and almost 4 years of ownership. My mother was in the hospital for almost 3 days on oxygen to clear the carbon monoxide from her blood. If it had not been for her dog we would have been planning a funeral rather than Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
The oven is now with my insurance company at a laboratory for examination. I have read many, many stories about these ovens and stoves turning on and off the burners and ovens of at will. There was a recall in 2009 of 200,000 units. They must be waiting until the press or the liability is enough to do another recall. I put Kenmore appliances throughout the residence and I am very sorry for that now.

They were rude and wouldn't do anything other than offer over priced technician that I would have to pay for.
Clearly, the oven sparking and smoking was caused by a defect in their product. Afraid for my safety, I unplugged stove until I could hire my own repairman to come and diagnose stove. I would not trust Sears technician anymore than Kenmore product and was not about to pay more money to such a worthless company. Later that day they called Sears to send a technician to check out the stove. The technician wrote in his report that the cause of the fire was food that was in the oven. The food was leftover pizza and french fries from the night before. The stove was shut off and not in use, but it heated up by itself. I believe the cause was an electrical short (defect) that caused the oven to heat up and catch fire. The stove was purchased 4/24/2012 and I bought a 5-year warranty on it. Please give me the old coils and let me preheat in 10 minutes!!! I then used the self cleaning feature. The heat was so intense (840 degrees) that it literally melted the resurfaced cabinets next to the oven. I purchased a Kenmore Elite Oven Model #790 980 23800 about 4 years ago. Cost over $1,600.00. In the past several months I have noticed the oven racks will fall down. This can be a hazard because of the heat of the pan and possible spilling of contents. I logged onto the web and found a Kenmore site that had a few complaints on this oven. I reached out to a rep there who did have a repair man come out. He stated that it would cost $600.00 to fix, which is unacceptable.
Went back to Kenmore and they advised me that since I do not have an extended warranty I would need to pay. They would negotiate the price. I think this is a defect, not something that the consumer should be responsible to fix. According to Kenmore rep if it is a defect then the manufacturer, Frigidaire would be responsible.
Today I called Frigidaire and was told once the name Kenmore is on the product and it is sold by Kenmore the liability and rights are Kenmore. Waiting to hear back from Kenmore on Frigidaire’s response. The issue is I as a consumer bought a costly product from Kenmore and unless I buy an extended warranty they do not stand behind the product. Not to mention this issue is a hazard. ANOTHER KENMORE 790 SERIES FRONT GLASS PANEL EXPLOSION! I have twice, in an approximately two-year period, had the same disturbing incident many others here have described. Twice, the entire glass front of the oven surface forcefully shattered all over the kitchen floor and adjacent room. When the first incident occurred, the company promptly replaced the glass front and assured us that this was an isolated incident. When the second incident occurred, the representative reported that someone would come to our home to replace the glass, but that we were twenty days out of warranty. Any expense would be ours. It is clear to me, a non-engineer, that the nature of the design is hugely flawed and very dangerous.
Others of my friends have Kenmore ovens. While their handles meet a secure oven metal piece, our handle meets glass front surfacing. A heating temperature of as little as 350 degrees resulted in this near tragedy. I would not dare to try the self cleaning feature. While I have always been satisfied with Kenmore products, THIS OVEN IS A RISK TO YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR COMPANION ANIMALS. IT MUST BE RECALLED. Seeing the consistent number of unresolved complaints, we, the consumers, need to consider a class-action-suit. I NEED TO HEAR FROM AS MANY OF YOU WITH SIMILAR NEAR TRAGIC INCIDENTS AS POSSIBLE. We splurged and purchased the Kenmore Elite Double Oven Model #79098023800 in 2009. It has worked fine and I have done self-cleaning on it several times over the past 3 1/2 years. However, since the last cleaning, the oven racks don't fit anymore and fall out of their grooves and this causes me great concern. I first thought it might be the racks that were the problem. I have an extra rack that came with the oven which I have not used in it since we bought it. When I tried that one, it too was "too small" and didn't sit safely within the grooves of the oven walls. I measured and compared it to the other rack and they were the same.
Once I looked online, it appears that I'm not the only one with this issue and it seems the oven walls have bowed out slightly and have created this problem. Having contacted Sears, they said they can send a tech out (at the cost of $75) to evaluate what my problem is and if and how it could be fixed. She said their system doesn't show that there is such a problem with their oven (or at least my model) and that quite often people blog about it but don't officially complain to the right department so they don't recognize the issue/hazard/problem.
This is very concerning. I have three children in the house. I love to cook and bake, and I'm now worried about the safety of my family and home. I have lived in a lot of houses over the past 30 years and have cooked/baked on up-teen amounts of ovens. Never and I mean never, have I seen this kind of problem. I find it hard to believe that Sears isn't aware that there is a manufacturing issue on some of their ovens! Shame, Sears, shame. You have officially lost a very dedicated consumer! And yes, I'm going to complain to the "right" department. For anyone else who has this issue, please call Sears at 1 800 638 2772 and let them know so they can't claim that they have nothing in their systems regarding this issue!

3 days ago, March 29, 2013, I was using my range to cook bacon. I had it set at 375 degrees and had just checked the bacon and determined it had another 7-10 minutes to cook. I left the room for a few minutes, and after about 5 minutes, I could hear a beeping. My husband asked me if I wanted him to shut off the timer, but I said, "I didn't set the timer." The stove kept beeping non-stop, so I returned directly to the kitchen only to see “F10 - ERR” on the touch screen. I opened the oven and smoke poured out. I quickly closed the door and my husband ran downstairs to shut the breaker because nothing I could do would stop the beeping. With the stove shut off at the breaker, I opened it and took out my burned bacon; and the room was filled with smoke.
After doing some research online, it appears that the error means that the heat is considered to be runaway and at a dangerous level! Are you kidding me? I would like to know how long Sears has known about this issue, and why they have not informed people about this problem. What if I had a roast in the oven and had gone outdoors to do some work? This will be the 6th issue I have had with this range. So far, the brain was fixed once then replaced; the triple burner had to be replaced as did the whole glass top. The last item was the door as it warped and stained during a regular cleaning.
I do not trust this range anymore and want it replaced. It is a lemon! It is unsafe and at this point, I am afraid to even turn the breaker on. Sears needs to step up to the plate and stand behind a very expensive range. This range broke down within 3 weeks of delivery to me and then again a few months later. It has been nothing but one thing after the other and I am done with allowing it to be repaired. It is a fire hazard! God forbid my new home would burn down due to Sears not replacing this lemon they have sold to me. It is time to replace it or give me my money back. I will never buy a Kenmore product again! Ever!

This lasted less than a year again until 3-2013, only this time it blew the breaker (it never had done that before). Upon removing the back cover, I was horrified to find the oven plug that plugs into the control unit melted! I only can say I'm glad it didn't start a fire. I'm writing this complaint to warn people of a possible fire hazard. I'm junking this range.

We purchased a Kenmore range less than 1 year ago, and the seal on the glass on the front of the range leaked grease in between the glass panels. The Sears repairman took it apart and cleaned it. But he told us that this would happen again and that there was nothing that they could do. A Kenmore rep told me the same thing happened to his to, but he just put a towel in front of his stove so it would not look so bad. So I guess I will put a towel in front of my new Kenmore range so it doesn't look so bad with my new Kenmore Elite fridge, Kenmore Elite dishwasher and Kenmore Elite microwave.

I purchased a Kenmore brand gas range in February 2008 for over $1,000 on sale. Sears installed. I found out upon delivery that it was manufactured by Electrolux. I was unhappy with the stovetop from the start. It's almost impossible to clean once something spilled on it while hot. Functionally, it worked okay. However, when doing self-cleaning process, the oven never really seemed to get clean. On Saturday, March 16, 2013, I ran a cleaning cycle for only 2 hours as it was not that soiled. As per the salesperson's instructions, I also cleaned the cast iron stovetop grates in the oven. I noticed that after 30 minutes after cycle completion, stove is still radiating a lot of heat. It was then I noticed that the clear cover over the touch plate on the control panel was melted and discolored. The touch pads would not function.
I contacted Sears Appliance and was told I could purchase warranty coverage; otherwise, there would be a service call as well as parts and labor. When I asked if there had been any similar problems, I was told no. When I asked why I would be charged if it was a manufacturing defect, I was told to contact Kenmore. So I contacted Kenmore and was advised it was not covered by any warranty, there were no problems known and no recalls had been issued. Upon checking online, I found numerous similar complaints regarding the control panel melting and one case where the oven actually caught on fire within five minutes of starting cleaning cycle. The individual model numbers were not listed nor the manufacturer. But since most of Kenmore appliances are made by the same manufacturer and just labeled Frigidaire, Electrolux, Tappan, etc., I figure it doesn't really matter.
Using my preferred appliance repair person, the panel was replaced at a cost of $298. I had to order the touch pad from Kenmore and I'm expecting a 2-3 week wait for delivery and additional cost of $22 for part. Labor is unknown at this time. I know appliances are only built to last 3-5 years anymore, but this still poses a real hazard. I'm afraid to run the self-cleaning cycle now for fear of a repeat incident and additional expense. The repairman stated he was unable to determine what caused the malfunction. I believe it's partially a design problem as one oven vent is directly below the control panel. I received no satisfaction from Sears or Kenmore. I'm wondering if a class action has been discussed.

Kenmore Ultra Bake Super Capacity Free Standing Gas Oven - Our oven stopped working right before Thanksgiving of 2012. It would not hold a temperature or even turn on at times. We had the control panel replaced for $300, and it got us through Thanksgiving. The oven originally cost $600 so to replace the control panel was very expensive. Right after Thanksgiving, it began to work inconsistently again. Our most recent incident was where the oven stayed on and increased the heat even though we turned it off and the control panel said that the oven was off. The gas was still on and clearly, the oven was increasing in temperature.
We then got the error message E2-F3 which is the warning that it was too hot. We could not get it to turn off so we called the gas company to come right away. The gas man that showed up said that if we had cut the power to the house, the gas would have remained on unless we turned the gas valve off as well. This stove is too dangerous to keep. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Kenmore Electric Range Model 790.9742 - Purchased in April 2010. The racks are no longer and it collapsed during the cooking process due to the oven liner warping and bowing out. Repairman says it is unrepairable and there are no racks available to fix this problem. Sears tells me this is an isolated problem and they have never heard of this problem before. Really?! It's all over the internet on not only Kenmore, but LG, Jenn-Air, Whirlpool, and other brands made for Sears. All Sears will do is give me a 20% discount off a new stove because I did not buy the extended warranty. I sincerely doubt the extended warranty would have covered an oven liner since it is not a replaceable part. It is part of the oven, according to the repairman.
I was nearly burned when I pulled out a casserole to check on it. Dutch oven also fell after a few hours while it was cooking in the oven. Luckily, the door stayed closed and the Dutch oven fell straight down. It could have caused a major grease fire. Sears refuses to admit there is a problem with the steel used in the oven liner. Sears no longer stands behind their products. They say they are sorry.
I am disappointed in the longevity of my stove. Well, yes, it is only 2 1/2 years old and this shouldn't be happening. It would have happened sooner had I used the self-cleaning oven feature which I have yet to do and it would have caused additional warping and bowing. I have an oven I paid $1000 for and is unusable because I, more than likely, will get burned or a fire will happen due to these racks no longer fitting.

Last week, the oven door to my 2-year-old Kenmore range exploded - shattering and sending shards of glass across the kitchen. The range hadn't been used since the night before and I had turned the broiler to low, opened the door to slip food onto the rack, and was in the process of closing the door when the glass completely shattered. I called Sears, where I bought the blasted thing.
They suggested I contact Kenmore, who suggested I contact Frigidaire, who referred me back to Kenmore. No one seemed concerned that I could have been hurt and that the range I purchased in good faith and based on a history of using Kenmore appliances couldn't be used. I do not have the money to trash this faulty range or I would. I can say, without hesitation, that I will never purchase an appliance from Sears or Kenmore again due to the lack of effective customer service over an obviously flawed design. I still haven't had it fixed and am sickened every time I walk into my kitchen.

My family all pitched in so I could get the Kenmore Elite oven model #79098022802 through Sears. I picked up the oven from the Sears in the Hickory Hill Mall in Memphis, TN on January 17, 2011. Since then, I have had four service calls for the same problem, which is called an Error 14. This particular error message stops the oven from working, making it impossible to bake or warm anything up. Once the Error 14 message appears the oven completely shut downs. It does not let you override it or bypass it. The control part has been replaced twice and finally on December 26, 2012 Sears replaced the touch screen but still the Error 14 message remains.
Sears had me purchase a premium warranty for $270. The oven cost $1,500. Since I have had this oven (January 2011), I have had to take off work seven times for the same problem. The Sears serviceman that came to my home to fix the oven worked on it for three hours trying to fix the Error 14 again. To this day, the oven is not fixed. The serviceman told me to call the Lemon Line for a replacement. I called and they gave me another appointment for January 4, 2013. On January 4th, the serviceman was at my house for 30 minutes. He talked to the service people and ordered the control panel part directly from the manufacturer. On January 11, 2013, the same serviceman installed the third control panel and it still did not fix the Error 14 issue. The oven will heat up to 114 degrees then it triggers the Error 14. At this point, the serviceman feels that he has exhausted all possibilities on fixing the oven and he is not coming back.
The issue with my oven has been going on for two years. For two years, I have not been able to make my family meals to eat. I have not been able to make holiday meals for my family to enjoy. I have been forced to go to family and friends homes for the holidays just to enjoy a home cooked meal. I think that it is unfair that Sears has not taken care of this issue in a timely manner. No one should have to go without an oven for this long. I only want to be made whole. I would like for this oven to be exchanged for one of equal value ($1500) and a check for $270 for the premium warranty I purchased for the oven that still does not work.
Since this issue began in February 2011, I have been extremely stressed and frustrated due to the fact that I am not able to use my oven to bake meals. Sears has offered me no recourse other than to sell me a warranty that has not been useful. I would greatly appreciate if someone from your company could exchange my oven for equal value but not the same brand.

I ordered the racks, but they are the same size as the original and Sears said that they cannot help me. I am not alone. Many other consumers have had this same experience. This should never happen. My Kenmore Self-Cleaning range is 5 years old, and about two years ago, I noticed the oven racks were falling out of the groves. The oven box seems to have bowed out and the racks fall out and do not fit anymore. I assumed Sears would take responsibility for this as this should never happen. When I brought the problem to them, they said I must buy new racks costing about $150.00 and that there was no recall on this problem. I think this is unfair and irresponsible on the part of Sears to not recall these ranges or at the very least, replace at no charge the racks.
I have been a faithful Kenmore customer for over 30 years, but I will never buy another Kenmore appliance or any appliance from Sears again unless they do the right thing and correct this problem. Without proper fitting racks, the oven is virtually unusable, not to mention a safety hazard as hot items placed on the racks can cause injury when the racks fall out of the groves. I had to flip the switch on the breaker to turn off the stove. It took 2 weeks to fix because no parts were available. The tech had to remove the necessary parts from the display model in the store. On August 26, my wife placed a pot of water on the stove to boil. A few minutes later, she heard a loud cracking noise. When she went to the stove, she noticed a large crack in the counter top. They finally informed us that the part was not due until October 26. The part arrived earlier than expected and the repairs were done on October 18.
When the tech inspected the top, he informed me that the crack was not a thermal break but rather an impact break, meaning something was dropped on the stove. I told him that nothing was ever dropped on it, and that there are no signs of an impact on the top. He showed me some spider lines from the bottom of the top. And he told me that the damage may not have happened when the top cracked, that some time before someone dropped something on the top and weakened it to eventually crack. He gave an example that if he dropped his penlight flashlight on the top in the right way on the right spot, it could weaken the top, and eventually lead to its cracking. If that's the case perhaps the top was defective.
After all, they are supposed to withstand some force. Now, I am not a tech. But my experience has always been that if you drop an item on glass enough to cause damage, it will leave some kind of a mark, whether it's an impact mark, a chip, or crack on the surface, not on the other side. I have called Sears home services and asked to have a senior tech come out and re-evaluate the top. It's no doubt that he will re-affirm the other tech's decision. I don't have my hopes up. The cost of the top was $392.00 which I had to pay. So much for extended warranties.

However, the oven racks still tilt backwards a quarter inch! At the same time, the level on the face of the door says it is plumb and level. What the **? It is also very hard to use the cooktop. It seems that we have to cook everything on low or it is just too hot that it will boil water well.

The smallest burner stopped working 13 months after installation. I was told to buy the extended warranty and they replaced the part. Now, three years later, the same part is not working again. I cannot believe that this part is broken twice in five years. There is certainly something wrong with this stove and Kenmore should stand behind their merchandise. As a result, I have half a stove-top and that is it. Sears and Kenmore refused to admit that they are responsible for fixing this.

We bought a Kenmore electric range/oven, model number 790.90152304. We used the oven maybe five times. The sixth time we tried to use it, it essentially got stuck in uncontrolled preheat. When turned on, the oven will go into preheat mode. Once the preheat temperature is reached, the preheat light goes off, but the upper element stays on. The upper element will not go off until the oven controls sense that something is wrong. By that time, the oven is extremely hot, and eventually shuts itself off with an F1 error. If anything is on the upper rack of the oven, it will start on fire due to the intense heat. Since the time of the first incident, the oven has not functioned normally.
The internet is littered with complaints about this same Kenmore model. So, I can see that I am not the first customer to encounter this problem. The point is, there is a design problem with these ovens. Upon calling the Sears service number, I was advised of several plans. They told me I would have to pay a Sears tech to come and fix the oven. Needless to say, I bristled at the thought of paying to have something fixed that has a serious design flaw. This comes very close to saying that Kenmore put the design problem in so that they could fix and make a little extra money. As far as I am concerned, Sears/Kenmore should recall these ovens.

Last year, my husband and I purchased a Kenmore freestanding electric range from Sears, model #79097453804. Two nights ago, as I was preparing dinner for my family, I heard a loud pop. Then, the glass oven door exploded sending shards of glass all over my kitchen floor.
I spent two hours on the phone with Sears and Kenmore yesterday; trying to get someone to take responsibility for the defective product. According to Sears, the warranty is only for 12 months, and I had the stove for 13 months. So, it is not their problem to fix it.
I can pay to have a repair technician come over for $130 to assess the situation. Who knows how long or how much it will cost to replace?
I went online to see if anyone else had similar problems and to get an idea how much a repair might cost. To my surprise, I found several websites with thousands of posts of people describing almost identical "explosions". I called Sears; told them this information, but according to their "recall/rework” department, there have not been any recalls on this product, so they will not cover my defective stove for free.
I find this very difficult to understand. Not only am I without a working oven now and have broken glass still jammed inside parts of the door (which is hazardous to my children and dogs), but I have to pay for a defective product because it is 30 days past the warranty.
Considering so many other people have had a similar and very dangerous experience, I feel like something needs to be done!

The products are very poorly made. I purchased a Kenmore kitchen from Sears believing that I was getting the best possible product within my price ranges (Kenmore Elite). In less than 5 years, the only appliance I have left is the stove. Recently, the stove developed an issue where the burner will not shut off. So naturally, I scheduled a service with Sears for repair.
After scheduling the service, I did a little research (on the Kenmore site and found out there was a factory recall because it spontaneously turns on and burns down houses). Do you think that was a bit of information a homeowner would appreciate? Sears would have happily charged me for what is a free repair. Now that we have been without the stove for two weeks, there is not a repair time available for another two weeks. It looks like I'm not the only one with the issues. I do find it interesting that while Sears was under the impression that I was going to have to pay for a service, the attendant was available within two days.

I have researched this on the internet and this is problem has been reported numerous times. This is dangerous, as this can occur using the timer function and if unattended lead to a fire!
Fixing this seemingly common problem is a $400 plus proposition, which is almost the price of the oven. There is no safety guard in place to ensure that if this problem does happen the oven will shut itself down. Apparently this can happen at any time and without warning or other signs of its impending malfunction.

I promptly turned off the oven and left it alone. I got on the internet to see who to contact and could not find a number directly to Kenmore so I called Sears the next day. As I was searching the internet, I saw that this has happened to many many people. This is very hazardous and concerning especially when now days the kitchens are connected to the living areas which in my case is far too close to my infant!
Sears has horrible service. I called many times, was given many different answers, spoke to different people every time, was hung up on, and was told there was no managers that customer care was the top level. Let me tell you there is no care for their customers. I was told by two associates I would receive a call back from the service dept after filing a consumer safety report. Of course no one called. I wrote down names and employee ID #'s and no one knew who the last person I spoke with was!
I called again and was rudely blown off because my product was not under warranty. This type of issue should have nothing to do with warranty! This is a manufacturer issue and safety issue! More people need to be aware of this type of thing happening. As I often have my infant right in the kitchen with me! Sears offered nothing to help me but scheduled a service call to my home without my permission! I called once again and said I did not authorize this especially because there was a charge when I know what is wrong with the oven and did not need a diagnostic just a repair or replacement on Sears!
The phone system there is horrid and the service is even worse. This type of issue probably does not have a recall yet because no one has died/been injured yet! Plus, people do not have time or energy to spend on telephone calls that get them nowhere at all! There needs to be a warning on these ovens! (I have photo documentation). I have wasted so much time and energy on this because I was so upset that my infant could have been injured!
