I purchased $1,000 in carpeting. The room calculations were wrong; I never got my hall closet done; and they charge me as a room for the foyers. I was told if I did more than two rooms installation, it was a flat 97. Anyway, less than two months later the rug is falling apart and fraying in the middle of the room and the steps. I called and that was a complete joke dealing with these morons. Three weeks later I got told it was shedding and it was an installer problem. Then they said it was my fault. The store doesn't even want to deal with it. I didn't finance either. Home Depot in Lancaster Fruitville Pike and the 800 number are a joke. It's up to my attorney on what he's going to pursue.

We bought some laminate flooring from Home Depot in November of 2012 and after the order came in, we scheduled the install. The day before the install, my wife called to see who was going to remove the safety railing we have in the dining room. They said what railing, even though they had a guy come out and take pictures. The installer came out and said we can't use laminate as that has to float and it can't be screwed to the floor. Something Home Depot didn't tell us so we had to send it back and go buy hardwood flooring. The installers came out and no one spoke English, so anything the wife said to them they just smiled and kept on working.

At the end of the dining room is a drop off so you can look down into the family room and on the wall up by where the floor was getting installed there was a piece of 2x2 wood that was used to wrap the old carpet around and get stapled to secure it. For some unknown reason, the installers thought it was supposed to be there so they ran the hardwood out past it and then glued the floor the rest of the way across. Then they ran a small piece of white quarter round underneath to try and make it look good. Like a piece of beat up wood with drywall screws would ever look good! I called Home Depot and said this was unacceptable. They have to fix this.

So they came back and ripped the wood off and ran a piece of trim under the hardwood that didn't fit between the hardwood and the heat vents. So where it swung out, the guy told my wife, "Have your husband ran some white caulking in to fill the gaps?" He also put an end piece on the new hardwood to angle it back to the wall. The end pieces aren't the same thickness as the existing floor and they both stick up above the flooring. On the one side where the end piece didn't fit right, someone stuffed wood putty in the gap that isn't even the same color as the floor. Once again I called Home Depot and said this is crazy, I won't accept this kind of work and don't send that company out again to try and fix it as they are not screwing my floor up any more than they already have. I talked to a manager and he said they would do everything they can to make us happy. Just give them time.

We waited 3 weeks and finally I went into the store and talked to the manager. I told him again how unhappy we are and that company isn't coming into my house again. He agreed and I suggested we contact a contractor and have them come in and take a look. We got a call from Home Depot. They told my wife that there is no way they are going to allow another contractor in to fix the floor and we have no say in the matter at all as they will be sending the same installers out to fix the floor. So much for the “We will do anything to make you happy.”

I purchased Pergo flooring for the entire first floor of my home last November from Home Depot. I had a certified contractor install the flooring. Within a few weeks, the floor was popping, cracking, corners were peeling, and there were spots on the floor where pigment was missing. I talked to Leo at Home Depot and he filed a complaint with Pergo. Pergo sent a very elderly gentleman to my home to inspect the floor. This gentleman had a hard time getting down on the floor to take pictures with his digital camera. When he was finished, he said that I should hear from Home Depot within 10 days.

Two weeks, and there was nothing. Three weeks later, I called. Leo was out with medial issues. They passed my complaint to Brett. Brett didn't know anything. They were waiting for Leo to come back. Another week passed and nothing. I called again. Leo was back but knew nothing. A month later and still there was nothing. The report was obviously there and Home Depot was doing nothing about it. I called every other day. Leo was out again.

Finally, I had to call and insist that they do something. They called back and set up an appointment for Leo and another associate to come to my house to inspect the floor. When they arrived, Leo already had a report in hand even before he had inspected the floor. That's right, a report on the condition of the floor before they had even looked at the floor. Home Depot had decided what was wrong with the floor before they even looked at it. I finally saw the written report from the Pergo elderly gentleman, and the report says the pictures are of poor quality and the amount of damage is difficult to assess.

Home Depot denied my claim regarding the quality of the product even before they saw it. Home Depot said that if they had installed it, they would replace for free but since a certified contractor installed it, they only offered to replace one board for free. I want Home Depot to admit they made a decision regarding the floor before they inspected it and I want my full purchase price refunded.

We found flooring at a Home Depot in Edmonton. Our project required more boxes than what was there. The first question we asked was if the product was a special or discontinued so we wouldn't get in a situation where we couldn't complete the project. As we were talking to the sales clerk, the flooring manager came by and said, "No worries, I will order more right now." We said great and took the boxes and went home and started with our project.

We of course ran short and went back to Home Depot to grab some more stuff and thought we'd check on how long it would be. We then found out that it was a one-time buy item and they couldn't get any more. It was exactly the issue we tried to avoid and was guaranteed that wouldn't happen. We were then told that they had more in another store and so we went there, only to find out that the product was actually on hold, which was placed 2 days prior (you’d think this would have come up in conversation between the stores). We then went back to the Home Depot in our area and asked if they could order it or get some from other stores. We (not the store) called the 8 other stores and asked, and the actual numbers they had in stock differed completely from what our store told us. We also called the manufacturer and found out that the product is unique to Home Depot, but is still in stock and being produced.

So needless to say, we had to go home and rip up all the flooring we put down and return it for refund. We lost a full weekend dealing with this, when we could have been living on our new floor. It seemed each store had a different idea of what they could do (several said they could special-order it for us); also, the people who helped us didn't have correct information, and for lack of a better word, really screwed us in our project. We are now avoiding all things Home Depot due to the lack of trust in their employee knowledge of the products they sell. It is really too bad because we loved that flooring. We are really mad about trying to avoid the mess, and taking the word of the associate and having been lied to our face about it, and putting in all the effort just to undo it and ruin our weekend, and prolong our flooring project.

I purchased over $4k worth of Home Legend hand-scraped maple flooring and had it professional installed and after only a few months I've noticed deep scratches all over the floor. I have a small outside dog weighing less than 20lbs that is very calm and easy going. I submitted a claim through Home Depot and they directed me to Home Legend who sent an inspector out. After a few phone calls, I finally reached someone by email who said the claim was denied as it was normal wear. Deep scratches which cover majority of the floor where only two people live is not normal. An engineer friend said it appears the flooring is very soft and not scratch-resistance. He is going to research flooring hardness and test a piece of our floor.

I had laminate flooring put in my kitchen from the Home Depot in Manchester, NH and eight months later, it started to buckle creating waves in the flooring. I contacted Home Depot and they told me they were quite sure it wasn't the flooring purchased at their store but rather the fault of the company they contracted with to do their installing. Of course, the company came back with it was Home Depot's fault and both Home Depot and this company kept shifting the blame. The flooring company said they would cut out the sections that needed replacing but we would have to pay for it! Neither would accept responsibility for their work or product.

After emailing some loser big wig at Home Depot, I asked him why they feel they are not responsible and why I found so many complaints online about them. He reiterated the fault being with the installation and installers. I am so angry that this company treats their customers so poorly and no one wants to help us screwed consumers. Shame on Home Depot but I guess they win again. I will never set foot in that store again. My floor is still wavy with gaps in it and I will have to save for the money to replace it. Since my husband has been out of work, it doesn't look like I can fix my floor for a long time.

I had Home Depot come to my house and do a measurement for new flooring I wanted to install. I went to the store later that day and purchased the flooring I wanted. While at the store, I asked the customer service rep to place the order for the square footage and specific flooring I wanted. I also said I wanted to include in my order the radiant heating pads to go under the floor. The customer service rep was insistent that there was no such product for laminate floors. I asked him to check with a manager since I had done my research and found that there was a possibility and Home Depot did carry it. He proceeded to tell me that he thought I was a 'pain in the ass" but he would check. I left the area shocked at the guy’s behavior and said I would be back in a minute. When I came back, I asked him if he talked to the manager and he lied to me and said yes and the manager said it was not possible. I saw the manager before I checked out and he said he knew nothing about this and did find the radiant flooring I was requesting.

Now, for the big one. The Home Depot was running a special for $397.00 whole house installation on the floor I ordered and paid for. They said that my existing floor would need over $2,000.00 in prep work to be leveled since their measurements show that the existing floor, which the new floor was to go over the top of has a 1/4 slant. They said that they could not install it and the warranty of the floor would be voided because of my floor's slant. The specs of the flooring clearly state that the new floor can be installed on top of my existing wood floor "If the existing sub-floor’s slant does not exceed a ¼ slant. My floor does not exceed a 1/4 slant. Therefore, the whole thing that they have to do a $2000.00 leveling job before installing the floor is a lie. Numbers don't lie. They are trying to manipulate me into spending more money on something I do not need to do and are refusing to install the floor unless I do so.

I’ve contacted Customer Care, and have been getting the runaround by them the store and the installers with all this corporate CYA antics. The floor is still paid for. I have wasted countless hours dealing with this and am sick over it. Luckily I have some knowledge about construction or otherwise I may have believed them and folded into letting them push the leveling job without knowing. My personal measurement is that the floor is less than a 1/4 slant. But whether it’s a 1/4 slant or less, it is still within the new floor's manufacturer installation guidelines.

Buyer, beware of Home Depot’s unethical practices! I thought I was going with a company I could trust and was very disappointed that this happened. The floors were only part of the $25,000 renovation I was going to do. Now unless Home Depot sincerely makes an effort for me to overlook such a scandalous practice, not only will I spend the money somewhere else, I will write review after review, contact media and whoever and show them what being a pain in the ** like their customer service rep called me really is. If this could be a civil suit and an attorney thinks it’s a case, so be it also. If they tried it with me, they have been doing it to other people.

This is in reference to the subject matter order we placed on November 17, 2012 at the Home Depot #4102. The estimated installation end date was Dec. 17, 2012. Today is Jan. 1, 2013, and the installation is nowhere near completion, and worse, the installers damaged our property in the process. However, the installers failed to comply with the standard installation protocols and manufacturer's guidelines as follows, and damaged our property. No transitions were placed between hallway and bedrooms. They left the underlayment exposed in the closets. The floor is buckling in several places. They used the wrong sized stair nose. It left the ten stairs a tripping/safety hazard. In addition, they cut off the existing extension to make way for the incorrectly dimensioned stair nose.

Most of the quarter rounds cracked due to the use of thicker nails. They shaved off the leg of the "T-molding", and nailed down the "straight" molding on the continuous floor, thus damaging the continuous floor beneath it. They spilled some unknown, possibly hazardous dark-colored chemical in our bathroom, leaving it unusable. The walls were freshly painted, and now they have boot marks and colored stain marks of dark brown color through the house. We understand that some pencil marks and minor damages are inevitable, but the extent of spoiled wall shows a sloppy workmanship. They removed the doors from the hinges, which they left lying around in the house. The installers carelessly drove over the front yard damaging it. While enduring this utterly frustrating experience, we met with the Store Manager, on December 27, 2012.

We were assured that they would correct and finish the installation by December 31, 2012. Based on our earlier transactions with Home Depot, I was skeptical of this assurance. On December 31. USIG (home depot's authorized installers) called, and told that they could not do it on December 31. They may attempt to do it on a later date. I don't think Home Depot can deliver as agreed and as per the floor-installation/ manufacturer's guidelines, in a timely manner, and hence we don't want to keep wasting our time doing follow-ups. The experience with Home Depot has been very negative. Now we plan to get the flooring and professional installation done from elsewhere. We ask Home Depot to refund our money for flooring and installation. In addition, Home Depot should compensate us for the property damage, repair and inconvenience caused.

In October of 2011, we paid for some Allure plank flooring to be installed in our home by a Home Depot contractor. It took 3 days to install the flooring. Within a month, the flooring started to separate. Also, the flooring started staining no matter how we tried to clean it. We made a complaint to Home Depot and they had the installation contractors come back out to check the flooring. They found 4 or 5 areas where the floor had separated by as much as one quarter inch with several planks involved. They glued one plank and replaced the others. Again, in about a month the planks started separating. Home Depot thought the product to be the problem. So, they had an inspector from the Allure Floor Company came out to inspect. The Allure Inspector said it was not product failure but installation failure. It seems no one wants to accept the problem as theirs.

Home Depot said that the flooring was under lifetime warranty and we should pick another flooring. They would cover the instillation fees. We picked another flooring in late summer of this year. The flooring was delivered September 10, 2012 and is still in a pile in our living room. Today is November the 13th, my son's birthday party is in 2 days and Thanksgiving is next week. My entire kitchen, and living room/dining area is packed up waiting for the floor to be installed. We have been told for weeks now that the floor will be installed this week. This week never comes. We do not even get call backs updating us on any progress. I am going to get some legal help if this is not taken care of immediately. I am tired of being inconvenienced because no one will decide to fix this problem. This problem is not of our making (Product failure and/or installation failure). We decided to do business with Home Depot as we thought it was a good company to deal with. We entered this in good faith and now feel totally let down and angry.

We purchased 5 rooms and a large hallway worth of carpet from Home Depot. We ordered 3 different styles of carpet. We ordered the finest quality in each of the 3 different styles. Carpet installation was $37.00 (special deal), carpet cost with install $3,100. Our Job was scheduled for Monday then due to weather, they rescheduled for the following Friday. When the crew showed up (2 men), the quality of the hall carpet was perfect and spot on but the quality of the 5 rooms were poor. The carpet was not what we ordered. I discussed this with the manager. I returned to the store and brought home samples to compare with the delivered products. They did not match. The crew agreed and spoke with the Home Depot manager. We worked out a compromise. I would agree to have the 5 rooms installed that day if they would adjust the price to the lower quality carpet. The discount should have been $350.00.

After they installed the carpet, Home Depot called me to obtain my credit card number so they could adjust my invoice. The discount they gave us was $101.00. I consider myself to be scammed by Home Depot. We have at least another $30,000 worth of work to do on our 100 year old home. We will not be using Home Depot again. I have cut up my Home Depot credit cards and will be giving all my business to Lowe's. If you walk in our hallway, it feels like you are walking on a cloud. If you walk in our rooms, you can tell the carpet is cheap quality. The samples they show you in the store are nice, plush and beautiful. The carpet they delivered is cheap and you can see the webbing.

If I had it to do all over again, I would buy my carpet somewhere else. I am very sad about our purchase with Home Depot. The following pictures show it all - 143 and 146 is the carpet they delivered for our 3 upstairs rooms. Picture 164 is the sample of this carpet in the store. 152 and 149 is the carpet they delivered for 2 rooms, 163 is the sample of this carpet they have in their store. The quality is so far from the samples given. Anyone who looks at the photos can see that we were ripped off.

This letter is an abridged version of what I really want to say. Long story short, I will no longer do any type of business with Home Depot. Nothing - not even paint or a single nail. Where do I begin? My first error was to return to Home Depot after substandard service from Rockwood Shutters. I figured it must have been some sort of fluke. I thought Home Depot’s reputation was worth me considering other major projects, such as buying and installing hardwood floors. The first problem was MeasureComp. We selected a beautiful wood - Manchurian walnut. The individual who came to measure our rooms told us we needed 3/4 inch wood floors. Also, this individual stated that the moisture level on our floor was 3 and that we had nothing to worry about needing a moisture barrier.

Then, the quote came back and the report indicated that the moisture read in our room was red and meant we had to pay an additional $1000 for a moisture barrier. Huh? Home Depot then tells us, “Don’t worry, that $1000 will be reimbursed if the barrier is not needed, but you have to pay for it now.” So, we had to wait and save up additional money before completing the purchase.

Finally, everything was paid for. The wood arrived and I noticed right away that it looked very different from what we originally ordered. It did not look anything like Manchurian Walnut, which is like a light brown with deep black markings. What we got instead was a burgundy darker color without those beautiful black markings. And the t-moldings were not going to match the wood. Oh, yeah, we got two different colors of t-moldings.

I went straight to Home Depot (Hutto, Texas) and spoke to the assistant manager **. Mr. ** is the only person that actually tried to help clear up this fiasco. He was very patient and tried to reassure me that Home Depot would do its best to satisfy us. Long story short, I stayed with the wood mainly due to time restraints and trying to prepare our home for guests. Mr. ** was also in the works of trying to find a better t-molding match. Things seemed to look up.

Then, we had to deal with the installer company Floor Pro Network (FPN). I’ll get back to more specific complaints about FPN, but let me stay with the initial measurements issue from MeasureComp. The FPN installer who arrived 3 hours late told us immediately that the wood ordered was the wrong size: it was too thick. The initial quote stated that the floors were going to be glued. The installer said that’s impossible as the wood is too thick, so we have to nail it down. In fact, any wood needs to be nailed down (I learned after the fact). The installer also mentioned that we didn’t need a moisture barrier since the reading was very low and thus the $1000 we were charged was unnecessary. MeasureComp had completely messed up the initial measurement and quote. They are useless. They should be called “MeasureIncomp.”

And now to FPN. I called on a Thursday morning to schedule my appointment and was told that they would get back to me as soon as the network was back on. I called them back on Friday to schedule the installation appointment. I was told you’re already in the system and scheduled for Monday. I was told by the incompetent receptionist that I would get a call by the end of the day on Friday to confirm the time. Guess what? No call. In the meantime, we emptied out the four rooms we were hoping to get floors for. The house was a disaster.

Monday comes around. I called FPN at 8:04 am and Lesley picked up and told me that I’m not in the computer system scheduled for installation. She was going to see what happened and would call me back. I called her back at 9:40 am. She has the nerve to ask me for my number. Didn’t she have it when I first spoke to her over an hour ago? She didn’t even apologize for the inconvenience or gave me any reason for this mistake. She just told me that the installers were coming that day but that she didn’t know the time. I had enough of this Lesley! The time of arrival for the installers was 11:20 am. By the way, Lesley never called me back. I find that the lack of communication skills and lack of courtesy to customers as unacceptable. She should be given some serious training and suspended until she has a clue on how to handle customers in a respectable manner.

The floors went back, got my $11000 money back, and put my rooms back in order without hardwood floors. Now I’m spending this time writing this letter and making sure to submit negative reviews for MeasureComp, FPN, and Home Depot, who should take more effort in investigating the subcontractors they use. Maybe Home Depot can go online and see the horrific reviews since 2002 for both MeasureComp and FPN. My business is going to Lowe’s.

I purchased granite tile from HD for a bar that was built in my basement. HD had one of their installers come out to do the measurements. Installer told us that the bar top was not level and that since we had an area built in the bar for a beverage cooler to be installed, that we had to first buy the cooler and have it put in before they install the countertop. The compartment for the cooler was already enclosed and had no bearing on putting the countertop on that bar. The countertop would not be resting on top of the cooler. When informed of this, the installer was very rude, and acted like he did not want to be there in the first place.

On the leveling issue, I stated to him that "if" and only "if" the bar top area was a little off, that a shim here or there once the top was installed would correct any slight leveling issues. The installer did not want to hear that and by all accounts, the bar top was level (I had the person that built the bar come back out later to check it). Their rude attitude and the impression that they just did not want to do the work was what we were left with. It was a holiday weekend Friday and he seemed like he just did not want to be bothered with doing the job at all. ** poor attitude, and regardless of whether they worked directly for HD or they are installer contractors for them, they still represented HD. HD was no help so we canceled the order and went with a reputable granite company that came in and did the measurement and template and said not one word about a leveling issue (not surprised).

Weeks later, we had a similar incident with HD as we had ordered a laminate flooring from them to be installed. Their contracted installers came out and did their initial flooring measurements and moisture reading and everything was fine. The day of the install, the workers came out after all the material was delivered and informed us that the moisture level was too high and "oh, by the way, the inactive sump pump hole that had a cover on it (and level to the rest of the floor) that was located in one corner of the basement could not be covered with the laminate." When told that the initial guy who came out to do the measurements and moisture reading did not alert us to any problems with putting the flooring down, the guys pretty much shrugged their shoulders and restated that there was nothing that they could do and left.

I was left with 84 boxes of flooring in my basement that I now had to haul out of there in back to HD. We were once again jerked around by HD. We are through with HD and will be dealing with Lowe's for basic hardware items and with professional granite and flooring companies to finish renovating our basement. Word of advice to HD: get the hell out of the installing business and just sell products. That is it!

We asked him to call us back if we were disconnected as we had been so many times before. We were disconnected and he did not call us back. After the inspection, they told me that ** stated that there was nothing wrong with it and will only refund me 23 boxes out of the 48 I purchased. After placing a call to their headquarters, the manager, Bob, tells one of his employees that I will now get a refund for only 37 boxes. I came across a story similar to mine that had the same damaged wood, and after watching it, I realized that the holes in the hardwood floor were caused by the powderpost beetles. I called the headquarters again and they finally told me that I will get refunded for the whole amount; and the store general manager, John, told me that he will get me a check for $500.00 for my contractor to remove the two rooms he put down; however, my contractor is charging me an extra $1,000.00.

I also told the store manager that I will need an exterminator to come out and inspect the wood to see if it has the beetles in them, and it was found that it did. He agreed to have his employees come out to pick up the wood, but they only picked up about 15 boxes out of the 48. And to make things worse, they did it through the lobby even though I clearly told them and texted the specialist to let him know that it had to be carried out through the basement. Now, not only do I have to pay my contractor the extra $1,000.00, but also the exterminator company $650.00. And due to this, I wasn't able to move at the end of August like I agreed with the management of my co-op. Now, I have to pay two maintenance fees on both apartments again, but now I will be receiving a summons because they not only failed to listen to my instructions but also didn't even acknowledge the security guard who told them that they couldn't bring that out through the lobby.

We contracted Home Depot to install cherry bamboo flooring in our home. After being installed by FPN Services (contracted for the work by Home Depot), the flooring had spots all over, and there was no way to clean these spots off. After the installation, the installers cleaned the floor. We noticed that there were some spots but were told that they would come off after a few cleanings.

Home Depot has sent 2 inspectors to see the floors; the last inspector asked my husband if the installers said anything about the spots on the floor while they were installing. Nothing was said during the installation. The inspector said the installers should have stopped the installation and waited for new wood. When we got the follow up call from Home Depot for this inspection, they told us that unfortunately it was not a manufacturing problem with the wood. Meanwhile, we have spent $11,000 on this flooring and it is spotted all over with no way to clean it, as it appears to be in the wood itself, not on the wood.

We are waiting for Roy ** (Home Depot Asst. Store Manager) to let us know what cleaner will clean this up. He was supposed to contact the floor manufacturer. We still don't have copies of the reports the inspectors gave to Home Depot. Both inspectors led us to believe that there was something in the wood itself, and not something that can be cleaned off. We would like to have our own independent flooring inspector come and inspect the floor. We are very angry and disappointed in how Home Depot has handled this whole situation.

I purchased flooring on 5/28/12. I made a change to a type of vinyl by installers' recommendation. I had many problems getting price changed and install date. They rescheduled many times. Installer said he couldn't patch my floor and I had to pay more for luan to go in. He ran out of luan, installed the next day and it was so bad they had to send a new crew to replace it. It's supposed to be for the week of July 4th. They installed the following week and still insisted on using luan. The second install is unacceptable because you can see every seam of the luan under the vinyl. It has places that move (are loose) when you step on it, has a raised place at one luan seam, a dip at another seam and a small hole in the middle of floor. The floor is so soft that a lightweight kitchen chair leaves impressions in it.

We tore our carpet out. I called the next week and it was never ordered. I waited another week and called and talked to a female flooring manager and she told me it was never ordered. I have been waiting for 4 days and called two of those days. The flooring was to come from another store. It never showed up.

I called today twice. They were to look and no one has called me back. I'm pissed. As far as I am concerned, at this time, you can take Home Depot and shove it. If and when they do call me back, I believe I'm going to tell them I don't want it. I live over an hour and a half away and passed up Lowe's in Warren, PA. I guess the stop should have been in Warren. I'm just extremely aggravated with Home Depot and if anyone ever asks, I will tell them to stay away.

The Home Depot has made a mess of our home. My wife and I were excited to be ordering laminate flooring for our family room and dining room, and new carpeting for our living room. The excitement soon wore off when we contracted with the Home Depot in Utica, MI to do our floors. Day 1, the measuring company was 3 hours late. Instead of missing a half day of work, I lost a whole day. I went and picked up 21 cases of flooring plus the padding needed for the job. I also ripped out all of the old carpet and pad in the living room and family room. I moved the furniture back and forth to accommodate my work. We paid extra to have the furniture in the family room and living room moved on the day(s) of the actual installation.

Monday morning, the installer for the laminate called and said he's on his way. He showed up by himself. I asked him who will help him move the furniture. He looked at our floor and said he didn't think he can do the job because the poured concrete floor doesn't look even enough to him. He left. I have now lost day 2 from work. We called the Home Depot to see what we could do. They suggested a soft back vinyl floor that would cost an extra $2,000. We didn't really even want this because it still looks like linoleum. Nobody had anything to offer beyond this. We asked a contractor who works at my wife's business to come and look at our floor. He brought an 8' level and checked our floors. He said our floors are perfectly acceptable and that he could do the job with no problem.

Wednesday morning, the carpet installer called and said he's on his way over to do the living room carpet. I asked if he had help since we had already paid to have the furniture moved. He said he was alone and asked, "Is the furniture heavy?" I told him it certainly is, so he said he would have someone call me back. About an hour later, another crew called and said they will be at my house around 6-7PM that night. Day 3 of lost work! I called Home Depot and told them what was happening. A woman named Lori offered me $100 off of the installation for all of our trouble. I said, "Hell no, I'm writing to the Home Depot main office." Lori called me back at 2PM that day to ask how the installation had gone. I asked her if she was serious since I had just told her this wouldn't happen until later in the evening.

The carpet crew was great. They stayed until 10PM and got the job done. Thank goodness for them! Now I still have 21 cases of laminate flooring and pad in my house and my family room is still torn up. Home Depot HQ called and made some cheesy apologies. While he was on the phone with me, we did a party call with the store manager from the Utica Home Depot. He too offered his apology and once again said that I had been offered $100 for my trouble. I asked him if that would make him happy if this was happening to him. He said he understands how I feel, but wouldn't answer my question. He then offered $150 to fix the problem. I told him I was going to make some phone calls and get back with him.

Later that day, I called the Home Depot HQ in Dallas and left a message that I would settle for $300 and that the Home Depot would pick up all of the laminate flooring and credit my account. I have not heard back from them since. This whole thing has been a true nightmare and our house is still a mess. Has anyone else gotten legal help and if so, was it worthwhile? I'm planning on calling an attorney tomorrow. I would like this to be made right and I would like to be compensated for my loss of work, the loss of use of my home and for the grief that this has caused my wife and I.

Home Depot is misleading the public with their $97 installs. What the consumer doesn't know is that they mark up their prices and another thing, they use an installation company that in essence is raping their installers, most of which are not contractors. Yes, they are qualified to install your flooring, but they are being taken advantage of to the highest degree. For instance, their installers use their own vehicles, have to buy all their own supplies. Although they get reimbursed, the company gives them at the end of the year, a 1099 for their reimbursements. Not to mention they make way more money than their installers. Really, the installers are paint for their own taxes. Not to mention, SP Carpet pros just got done paying out a very large sum of money to their installers. And we wonder why the economy is so bad and why the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

I signed an over $5k contract with Home Depot to put down new flooring in most of my house. I purchased from them all the materials. The job included tiling and hardwood flooring. They started with putting down ceramic tiles in my living room. The quality of the workmanship was below any of my expectations. The tiles are uneven, exposed linage over 1/16" is everywhere. The grouts between the tiles are varying between and inches all across the room. The grout lines are not continuous; they are broken very visible at several places. The quality of the tiling is not comparable of any commercial or residential places I looked at. Home Depot and the subcontracting company’s bosses came out multiple times and they did not see anything wrong with it. At the end, they agreed to replace 5 tiles.

I filed a complaint with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC). The inspector came out, looked at the place and a couple of days later sent a report: he agreed with every point of my complaint.

I am appalled, that Home Depot is behaving like a corner used car lots sales people. They are a big company, could be gracious acknowledging the substandard quality, correct the problem and move on. Instead, they are trying to explain me that I am unreasonable; the job quality is within industry standards, meaning it is good enough for you.

The ROC report came in on 2/2/2012. Home Depot has not contacted me since despite of the requirement to act within a limited number of days.

For instance, I have molding, but they added that in. They added $35 feet worth of carpet reducers when all that's needed is 10 feet. The square footage did not add up, or the amount of scrap they calculated. They also advertise a special installation rate of either $397 or $597, or $2.00 per sq/ft. The installation according to the contractor came to $2600. This is a scam. Two days later, I get a call from Dania with a new estimate total $150 which higher than original. I asked her to use the traditional tack strip and was told that I would have to remove the existing tile or pay the extra cost of installation. I refused. After giving the issue some thought and checking with other installers, I learned that it is quite common to install on top of existing flooring that is in good shape.

I decided to call the store and speak with a manger named Joel. I explained what happened and he said he would investigate and call me back. After a short time, Joel did call back and told me that the carpet could be installed using traditional nail down tack strips over the vinyl tile. I thought okay, this is good. Wrong. Now, he tells me that Dania has cancelled the order. It would appear as though they never had any intention of installing the carpet for the $97 that was advertised and quoted. If they could not upsell the installation, they will cancel the order. However, Joel did close our conversation with, "I hope we can continue to do business in the future." The tab came to around $2,000 in the end. The price is misleading because it doesn't account for removal, padding, stairs. I had to remove the carpet myself though because I had to seal the sub-flooring. I did not want the odor to seep into the new carpeting. Finally, on the 13th, the 72-hour plan took 12 days to install. I remember the calendar on the desk saying at most 5. But okay. Anyhow, I was trapped into buying this carpet and using their services because no one was up front about the carpet install. I ran out of time before finding out they wouldn't install carpet in certain places due to policies they have.

So yesterday (4/15), the guys I hired from Craigslist show up to do the basement only to find the carpet has been destroyed by Home Depot installers. The installers folded it against the grain, causing a nasty tear. I had to buy more carpet. He was trying to install what he could salvage out of it. At first, I thought these clowns were going to actually kill me and roll me in the carpet and no one would ever know what became of me. Home Depot could not have cared less. I called the hotline trying to remain calm. When the person on the other end wanted to know, "Well, what do you want me to do about it?" She wasn't getting it, apparently.

I was in tears having to even go back to the store. I hate Home Depot. When I went back to get some more carpet, the lady charged me $200 more. I refused to buy it telling her she was wrong. Finally, she fixed the price. The Craigslist man is supposed to come back on Sunday to finish what he started. I pray that I am able to choose never to return to Home Depot again out of my own volition and not because I was put in a predicament by Home Depot. After all, I had placed my order on the 2nd. I was told it would take a short amount of time.

Their business practices are very deceitful. It entraps people to believe they are getting something they are not. It put my life in jeopardy because I was unable to make an educated decision that I normally would have reviewed better. I went with Home Depot because they do installations and I felt they would know who to hire in the Denver area better than I would. Because of Home Depot, I am still here in Denver. I have never been gone longer than three days from my little ones. I hate this. All because I trusted this corporation. I wish I had gone with a smaller, more up front business. I chalk it up to a lesson learned.

There are scratches all over the floor on day of installation spotted, thought it must be a faux finish but no! Floor is so soft that moving the fridge during installation even caused scratches and my fridge is on wheels and glides smoothly. My cat who has no front claws has caused scratches as has my dog.

I cry daily and keep the blinds and windows shut because it is too painful. Scratches are all over every square inch of the hardwood bought by Home Depot. I am now in a deep depression and can't afford to change it again. Financially, there is no possible way raising two sons and no child support from ex. I went to home depot and picked out carpet and asked them to come out to measure and give me an estimate. They came out to measure the next week. Then they called and said they didn't receive payment for the estimate. I had the receipt right in front of me showing I did pay. They said, they would call me back with the estimate. A few days went by with no call. My girlfriend called back and they said, I had cancelled the order which I didn't. Again, they said they would call her back with the estimate. They said they weren't sure what had happened for the order to be cancelled. No call again.

So I called again the next day. They said they needed the paperwork to give us the estimate. Again, they said they weren't sure what had happened. All we wanted was an estimate for installing our carpet and they couldn't give us that. They said we had to come up to the store with our receipt. I'm sure they have this on file. So, we told them we are cancelling our order and wanted our money back. They said they would refund our money. I just don't understand why a company wants to lose money when they screw up. We can get the job done through Lowes which we will do. But not only are they losing this sale but they are losing thousands of dollars of sales that they could have had through the years? Just doesn't make sense does it?

I ordered flooring approximately two weeks ago from the Hermitage store. It hasn't arrived yet. I placed it on their credit card with other items to do over an entire room. I needed wall paper paste remover and my husband was going to a home depot about 30 minutes away while running another errand. He was given a military discount at that store. Now I have an order for $560 in flooring and went to the service desk to ask for the military discount. She stated at the store in Hermitage that they were not permitted to give them out. I thought how strange since it is a chain.

I had another $108.00 worth of stuff I was purchasing, again on my credit card. I asked the check out girl why the difference between the two stores? She said the manager’s make the decision. I asked for a manager, one was not available at the time. She said she has given them in the past. Upon getting into my car, I asked my husband to call another store 30 minutes from home. Not the one he was in the other evening. They also give military discounts upon request. Now we have 3 Home Depot stores within 1/2 hour to 45 minutes away.

The Hermitage store is nine minutes away and Pennsylvania charges a lot more tax than Ohio. The company states it honors other store discounts or promotions. Isn't this considered a store discount? As long as they're honoring other prices, maybe they should honor the prices of their own company. So far, I've spent about $67 too much in two trips.

It has been several years since we had Home Depot (Burnaby BC Canada) install our hardwood floors. We paid $14,000 for materials and installation. The problems started immediately. When my wife and I got home from work the first day of installation, about 3/4 of the main floor of the house was completed, however, the flooring was oak (a light brown/tan wood) instead of the red maple I had ordered. The customer service clerk had entered in the wrong product code when I had placed my order.

We decided to keep the flooring as so much had been installed, and we did not want to wait another 3 months for the correct wood to arrive, and wait for that long a period without carpeting or any flooring cover in our house. To make the long story short, the installation was horrendous. The stairs were uneven, warped, and squeaked horribly. For the rest of the house (the main floor and the upstairs), there were large gaps between pieces, where they joined, and the flooring was uneven.

After months of numerous telephone calls, letters, and personal visits to the manager of the store, then multiple telephone calls to the district manager, we decided to call the head office of Home Depot USA, and finally got someone who seemed to care that there was a problem, and the head office directed our local store to send someone to actually come out and look at the floor. Four people from Home Depot (including the store manager and a new district manager) came to look at our floor. They felt the stairs could be replaced, but they felt everything else was fine.

It took Home Depot 2 more tries to get our stairs done correctly (finally by getting a new contractor and having to rebuild our stairs). The rest of the flooring in our house still looks awful, and the wood is starting to chip away on the edges of the uneven pieces. My wife and I will never have Home Depot install anything in our house ever again, nor will we ever recommend them to anyone. They do lousy work, and do not stand behind their work.

The carpet looks terrible (it was high traffic area carpet) and the high area places are so matted down that even my vacuum cannot lift it. Home Depot told me that I needed to have the carpet professionally, no change, and then they (HD) told me it was out of warranty. I told HD I wanted someone to come inspect the carpet. Someone came and told me that HD did not inform me of any warranties, care, cleaning, how to keep it maintained. I was given no info on the type of carpet I ordered. How was I to know that high traffic area means it will not lose any fibers in that area? I thought high traffic area meant the carpet would look good in this area that is walked on all the time. HD was going to give me $300 towards a new carpet. Come on, I don't think I paid $300 for my downstairs to be carpeted. I was told I needed to upgrade the padding, which after was not necessary. I want my carpet replaced with what I was looking for in the first place.

This has been going on for months trying to deal with HD. They are responsible for informing all their customers about the products they sell. This was not done to me. Months later, a friend gave me the customer service complain phone number, 1-800-654-0688, and I was able to complain and open a claim. First, they offered me $600 and I refused this offer. Later, Mr. ** (district manager) came to my house to inspect the floor and told me that he was going to make sure that I will be happy with the result of this complaint. He called me later that he was in the position to offer me $3,000. I refused this offer. Four weeks later, they offered me $2,000 from the corporate offices. I refused this offer.

The reason I had the Travertine flooring installed in the first place was to make my home more attractive to potential buyers. Because of the unexpected deterioration of the flooring, I have to ensure that it is replaced before I can even put the house on the market. I do not feel it is my responsibility to incur additional expenses to do this. $2,000 does not cover even 1/3 of the cost of replacing the floor. I spent more than $7,000 to replace the floor. Over half a year ago, we had our carpet paid for and installed by Home Depot. These workers not only ruined our new home by gouging our freshly painted walls and ceilings, but also damaged our floors! They had no common sense to even remove their shoes in our home that we don't even bring outside shoes in. They walked all over the new padding, which I immediately called their manager on to let them know they should have been wearing booties or fresh socks and he said, "I will let them know". As this happened, the carpet they were about to install was sitting in the driveway outside in the rain and I told them about this as well. The manager said that he would take care of it.

Someone from Home Depot also set an appointment to meet me out there to see and take pictures of all the damage, as if I had all the time in the world to take off from work as it was. He assured me that he would have someone take care of it and assigned it to Gretchen. They finally agreed to take care of the paint damage through their subcontractor's insurance, but what about our floors? We have been getting empty promises from Gretchen about having the guys go out and "fix" the problems and now they are telling us "too bad". If they looked at the cuts in the carpeting, they would see what shoddy work was done and if they went and lifted the carpet like they assured us they would, they would see the muddy padding (we even paid extra for the upgrade).

I, more than likely, have mildew in my carpet due to the wet installation and under my carpet in the padding and they say that there is nothing they will do for us.

I had flooring installed in 2006. After about a month, the floors started to squeak. After complaining and working with the Home Depot for 2 years to correct the issue, they agreed to replace the floors after an independent inspector concluded there was an issue with installation. In September 2008, the same company that installed the floors came back and tore out the old floors and replaced them again. Unfortunately, the issues with the squeaky floors returned immediately. Again, I have been working to get this fixed, but the Home Depot has now sent me a letter stating, "We have found no liability on behalf of the Home Depot for your flooring’s squeak issues.”

I have had multiple flooring companies come to my home and state that they think the only way to correct the issue is to tear up the flooring again and to replace it. I have spent 3 years dealing with this! The flooring moves when you walk on it. I think that when they replaced the floor the second time, they did material damage to the subfloor, which has caused damage to the structure of the house. I have not been able to sell my house because potential buyers complain about the floors. The estimated cost to repair the floors is between $6000 and $8000.

As background, I purchased and had installed Armstrong Gunstock Springdale hardwood floors through Home Depot in Natomas, CA. These floors were installed throughout the lower portion of my home (front entry, living room and kitchen) on April 22, 2002. As time went by, I noticed gradual deterioration and fading of the surface lamination of the floors and began to question the integrity of the wood. In 2007, I contacted a customer service representative at Home Depot in Natomas named Michelle **. I told Ms. ** about my concerns with my flooring and she started the process of opening this up as a Claim/Inspection Report. After numerous follow-ups with Ms. **, she stated on one occasion that the paperwork was lost and did not show any motivation whatsoever in further facilitating this claim. My dealings with Ms. ** were extremely frustrating, to say the least, and I found myself unable to make any progress with Home Depot in addressing the problems with my floors.

On November 28, 2008, a new Claim/Inspection Report was filed by Ms. ** and I was told that within approximately 2-weeks that I would receive follow-up. This time passed and I once again had to take the initiative to contact Home Depot to receive a status on my claim. Ms. ** stated that another customer service representative named Mike would be assisting me with my claim from that point forward. I spoke with Mike and he stated that an Inspector would need to come out to my home to inspect the floors before next steps were to be made. Recently, this inspector came to my home and spoke with my fiancé, Eric, as I was unable to be at home due to work (which the inspector said would be fine). Amongst the first tasks that the inspector conducted was to measure the moisture content throughout various points on the floor using a moisture dome test. He discovered that many areas of the floor had excessively high moisture content and concluded that this type of hardwood flooring should have never been installed on a foundation with moisture content this high.

It was the inspector’s opinion that the laminate and integrity of the floors would continue to deteriorate due to this moisture problem. Furthermore, the inspector stated that a moisture dome test should always be conducted prior to installing any hardwood floor. He went on to add that if a dome test would have correctly been done at our home, it would have become apparent that this type of floor was unsuitable for our foundation. The initial claim that was filed with Home Depot (back in 2007) was done so due to my belief that this flooring was defective or was installed improperly. It has become apparent though this claim that the installers used by Home Depot to professionally install this flooring did not follow basic protocols. First and foremost being a dome test to measure the moisture content of the foundation.

Home Depot responded with a phone call by Pat ** stating that he had no proof that the installers did not do a dome test but could not provide me with the proof that they did, nor would they give me the name and information of the installers they contracted out to me. I am still researching and trying to find a solution to the shady loop holes that have be used to deny any liability through either company. I am sickened by the fact that there is $5,000 worth of real wood flooring in my house that is buckling and has lamination that is stripping away and there is no responsibility being taken for not following basic installations on a cement slab, the dome test. The floors should have never been put down. The 10-year warranty does not require the installer to follow basic professional protocol.

I write this letter to apprise you of my recent experience with a home renovation that I recently had through your company and to ask that something be done to rectify the matter. Last week, I put hard wood floors in my condominium and decided to use Home Depot after getting estimates from two other contractors. I am not at all happy with the way in which my business was handled.

First, in what was a terribly unnecessary convoluted process, I was given an estimate which was changed on the day of installation. As you may know, installing this flooring is a rather involved process which required taking out my existing carpet, and delivering the flooring 72 hours prior to installation. When your contractors came to do the work on the scheduled day, after days of preparation, they informed me they could not execute it because it entailed leveling the existing flooring which was a structural correction, and that this would cost an additional $800.

When I objected to this unforeseen last minute and very large additional cost, they told me that I should ask my insurance company or that I was welcome to return the flooring, get carpeting instead, or find another contractor. I did contact my insurance company which was an additional burden caused by your contractors not telling me from the beginning that this could be necessary. Don't they know when they see carpeting that this is a potential issue, and why do you/they not tell customers upfront during the decision making time?

Additionally, after I paid for the additional work to be done, I do not believe that they actually did what I needed and paid for structurally. All of this is very disheartening and frustrating. It has not only caused friction between me and my insurance company, but has had the effect of my losing total confidence in your company. I therefore ask that you extend the one-year warranty which I am told you provide for an additional two years to make sure that the flooring you have installed without the requisite preparation for which I paid is at least up to standard. I think it is the least you could do in light of the mishandling and complications that arose. I hope you will stand by your company and trust that you understand the importance of keeping your customers satisfied.

At the time of installation, I tried to get Home Depot to replace everything but they refused. In response to many heated discussions with the Home Depot flooring expediter, we were given a written lifetime guarantee on installation.

Recently, the dishwasher had to be replaced. However, since the Home Depot installed tile floor blocked its removal (and installation of a new unit) a section of tile and backer board had to be removed. I first talked with Lou Anne ** (current Install Expediter) and was told that help would be forthcoming. I'm tired of Home Depot's apparent practice of ignoring warranties and their responses to my requests to exercise the lifetime guarantee. I now want to have the Home Depot installed tile and backer board replaced in all three rooms and then properly installed. Also, since the floor was installed exceptionally high, door moldings and interior doors were shortened to accommodate the high floor. I'd like to get those issues addressed when the ceramic floor is installed properly.

On April 15th, I placed a special order for Castello Stoneline Laminated Flooring, after having received a visit from Tyler and Associates who performed the measurements and flooring preparation that would be required. It was my responsibility to certain appliances removed to accommodate the installation.

On May 8th, Home Depot's installer arrived to begin the installation. It was their opinion that the installation could be installed over our current vinyl flooring. My wife and I were somewhat apprehensive with this decision but they assured us that this was the standard procedure for installing laminated flooring. Tyler and Associates indicated there were a number of areas that would need to be leveled. Home Depot's installer did not concur with all of Tyler & Associate’s recommendation and used some leveling cement in one area but concluded it was not necessary in other areas.

The installation proceeded, but there was not enough flooring to complete the job so an additional two cases were ordered. This merchandise was supposed to arrive in about three weeks. Instead the additional cases did not arrive until about June 15th and the installation completed June 20th. In the mean time we were without a stove, water and dishwasher. In essence, we had to improvise using paper plates and doing the best we could without our appliances.

When the installer arrived on June 20th to complete the job, I pointed out to him certain areas in the flooring that had popping and cracking sounds. He examined the flooring and concluded it must be the product and not due to his installation. It is interesting to note that this was one of the areas that Tyler & Associates had indicated needed leveling.

The installation was completed and I notified Home Depot of the problem and I wrote a letter to Home Depot addressed to Mark ** on June 23rd informing them with my concern. Mark ** informed me that they would have a manufacturing representative come out and take a look at the flooring. A manufacturing representative never came out so I wrote another letter to Home Depot dated October 21st. Mark ** no longer was serving as the expeditor so I was contacted by another gentleman from Home Depot who made an onsite visit the later part of October. He was of the opinion that it was an installation problem and would have representative from the installation company come out and make a site visit.

Another month elapsed and no action or on-site visit had occurred by the installer so I sent another letter to Home Depot dated December 2nd. Shortly thereafter a representative from Home Depot and a representative from the installers arrived and inspected the floor and concluded that the flooring would have to be taken up and basically start from scratch. Finally on Dec 15th an inspector representing the manufacturer arrived and inspected the flooring and his report indicated the flooring had not been installed in accordance with the merchandise instructions.

In the mean time Home Depot contacted me and indicated that I basically had two choices: starting all over or they would refund me my out of pocket costs and services I performed totaling approximately $710. I agreed to accept this amount due to fact that I no longer can trust Home Depot' word as to what they would be willing to accept as their financial responsibility in starting the job over. Needlessly to say the 20 year warranty on the product I purchased is mostly likely voided.

Update from Claire in Union, KY. Well as luck would have it, we decided back in Nov. to go and buy more of the cherry floor since we had to twin a room. We thought we could deal with the look since we did not wish to have too many different flooring visible. They discontinued the Jotoba cherry at the end of Sept. So evidently, they were having far too many problems. Now I have to pull up my floor since I have open twin rooms that face each other and I am without any other resource for this discontinued wood. Buyer beware. In today's economy, a lost customer is really something to worry about.

We purchased flooring from The Home Depot in Piqua Ohio. From the start we had problems. We purchased two remnants for two bedrooms then ordered carpet and laminate for the rest of the house. When they came to install we found out that the remnants that we purchased from THE HOME DEPOT were wrongly marked. The carpet for the rest of the house was cut too short. We ended up with a mess and this was at Christmas time and my son was coming home, he had been in Iraq with the army. After three days of having our house tore up they were done, but we had no tree no decorations nothing for my son to come home too. Seams started to show where it had been seamed and we started with phone calls and trips up to THE HOME DEPOT. It kept getting passed between the installers and the HOME DEPOT store. We did this dance until may they sent one carpet guy with his staple gun to fix the seam. It didn't work.

Patience is getting tested by this time and I put in a dispute on the charges for our HOME DEPOT credit card for $2462.69. We received a letter and heard from customer service to get the issue solved. We could not come to an agreement because in the course of the installers coming in, they were yelling at me. I had to move my fish tank that had been drained and was not in an area that carpet had been laid and I dropped it. I had spent most of the past three years in and out of the hospital, almost died, lost a lot of weight and was not real strong. When customer service got involved in late summer, they came up with their agreement and would not budge. They bullied and lied to us until we agreed to their terms. We went for an upgrade doing nothing with the bedrooms. They were going to credit us for those two rooms and apply it to the purchase of the upgrade.

By now our laminate was starting to come up and warped our door. They were notified of this and decided to do it all in one shot. All of a sudden we thought that we were done, ordered and paid for the carpet. When we got a call from customer service that when we sign a paper releasing them of any responsibility, they will lay our carpet. We have not received this letter but they have my carpet that is paid for. They won't fix our laminate which has caused our door to warp and cold air coming in. We have put a table cloth and shut the door to try and keep out the cold. We live in Ohio and it is winter. We have been lied to. They are now holding my carpet hostage until we sign this phantom letter. We have been told we would receive calls within an hour and two days later, still waiting.

My parents had hardwood flooring put down, the exact match as the other wood flooring in their house so that it would look like one piece. The floor has spaces in between them. The shoe molding is brown, not white, like the rest of the house, which looks HORRIBLE!!! There is putty all over the fireplace, that you CAN see, and the worst is there are dividers from the kitchen and the hall way... Why would they have wanted an exact match just to have a divider? The divider has a cut in the middle so when you walk in the living, you see not only the divider but the cut in the middle!! IT'S THE WORST JOB I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! The thing is we were going to lay the floor down and decided that Home Depot was worth the money to put it down!!! NO!!!! You could trip on his HUGE divider also!!! We could of done this job 100% better. When we went to complain, they gave us the runaround and told us there is nothing they can do about it! All they want is the floor done right (I wrote this because my parents do not speak enough English and felt they would not being taken seriously)!!!

At this time, he told him which bag of grout we wanted, he wouldn't pick it up for my friend, who is 68 years old with a kidney dialysis in his arm. This guy walked off and refused to help us.

We had to wait for Brad, a different man, around 10 minutes. Then when we checked out, we asked for help loading our car. We waited another 7 to 10 minutes on Brad to come in from getting carts, while the guy at the counter, doing absolutely nothing, stood there. He did not look like a manager. He wore a Home Depot apron. When I asked him if he could help, I was told it's not his job. I just want to say that I will not shop at Hickory Hill Home Depot ever again. They are lazy and rude.

We special ordered a Brazillian cherry floor that was highly rated by Consumer Reports in this year's current issue June 2008. We had to wait the standard 7-10 days and had to pay in full. Well I am not sure of the main claims on the flooring yet however, the floor looks awful. Some of the boards are not stained properly and show discolouration, they are all small pieces so it appears that we salvaged flooring from somewhere instead of having purchased it new. The grain does not appear to be the same at all from one board to another so I am not sure the entire floor is actually cherry (I used to restore antiques for a living). The boards are not of the same widths and there is spacing regardless of how much hammering the installer could do. I have an entire room that looks just awful. A monkey could have installed it and I would not have noticed a difference.

I am out roughly $2,000.00 and cannot afford to pull out this floor and purchase a new one. I fear that this wood will make it more difficult to sell my home in the future. I have 2 more rooms of this stuff to install so that all my flooring is the same and that will mean more money!

HomeDepot has the most incompetant employees and suppliers! I recently ordered staircase parts for a rehab project. I was told that the order would take 10-14 days. The supplier, SureWood Forest Products, who is equally as incompetant, took 7 days to realize they do not have all of the parts in stock and it will take an additional 3-4 weeks to get them. Home Depot calls to tell me this and I explain to them that I need the remainder of the order so I can, at least, start the job. Steve, The Home Depot representative says "no problem".

They will create 2 orders, one for the back ordered items and one for the remaining items. After numerous unreturned calls, I stop by Home Depot to check on the status of my order only to find out that the seperate orders were never placed. Steve starts blaming his co-worker and taking no responsibility. He says to me that "Val should have placed the order and she forgot". The manager on duty is very apologetic to me but in essense is doing absolutely nothing to solve the problem.

Steve finally gets a hold of Colleen at Sure Wood Forest products. Colleen says they will overnight the order and everything will be OK. That was 2 days ago and I still have no supplies. Steve said is is trying to track the order but since it's Friday we may not know until Monday. Three more lost days! I and am losing money every day that goes by. I have a contracter who is ready to work on Monday and I have nothing for him to do. Who knows when I will get my merchandise and by that time will I still have a carpenter?

I regularly spend at least $10,000 a year at Home Depot - this will be my last purchase. If the world was run by Home Depot employees NOTHING would ever get done! I am rehabbing a house with the intention of selling it. Home Depot told me that my order would take 10-14 days to arrive. We are closing in on three weeks and I still have no product. Even after the first shipment comes in I will still be short two items for another 2-3 weeks. Monday, I have a carpenter scheduled and no work for him becasue of Home Depot. I liked the look so I thought I would again purchase this type of flooring. I could not find any in the store display, so I tracked down an employee and asked him if the carried the product. He told me that they didn't and when I said. Gee that', too bad I bought some in Alberta and liked the look. To which he replied well I guess you had better go back to Alberta and buy it there. I foulnd this to be rude and ignorant and left the store immediately. I went across the street to a flooring store and was able to purchase the product.

This is a year later I am again in a renovating mood and again decided to give Moncton home depot another try.( perhaps I would be treated better)" I found some trim, but it was in 15 foot lengths. I had nothing that I could haul that long a peice in, so I looked up an employee to ask if they had it in 8foot lengths. I asked this ansd got a how can you be so stupid tone of voice answer that went like this. " did you look in the bottom left hand corner of the tag to see if it Came in 8 foot lenghts? I admitted that I hadn't. " well I suggest you go back and take another look." I did and their was no mention of 8 Foot lengths.

My next thought was to ask if they yould cut the trim in half, Needles to say I couldn't find an employee. I did However find my wife in the kitchen section. She had been looking for a kitchen sink and not being aable to find it asked one of the young employees if he knew where she could find them. She said he didn't seem to know what she was talking about, until she said you know a stinless steel sink in your kitchen that you wash dishes in. He said oh yes I know what you are talking about ,but I don't know where they are located. He did however go to a phone one the wall and page someone to come to the kitchen dept for a
    customer service.

By the time I got there she had been waiting about 10 minutes. I decided to wait with her as I thought the person who was to help my wife would be able to answer my question. we waited a total of 25 minutes and then decided to leave the store. This was not a busy period for the store it being about 2pm on a monday. Needles to say My impression of this store and their employees is that they are rude, sarcastic and don't have the faintest concept of customer service and I very much doubt if I will ever set foot in that store again.

At the end of 2006 I ordered DuPont Stainmaster carpeting for my LR, Hall and Bedroom. Because it wasn't included in installation, I had to move an entire room of furniture, including a huge wall unit filled with books, TV, knick knacks, etc. Plus everything else in that room and my bedroom. It took me almost a week as I am a single woman but I desperately needed new carpeting.

I paid extra for the stainmaster due to having pets and because they claimed they were stain resistant. At one point during the installation, the contractors, none of whom spoke English, took the carpeting out into the middle of my street to measure and cut. Nice. Anyway, once it was done and everything put back in place I was happy. Now a year and a half later, there is no stain resistance, no matter what I try the stains don't come out.

I was getting ready to steam clean the carpets when my son noticed buckling in the LR in two spots. I've also now noticed it in the hallway as well. I called HD to inquire about the warranty and find out if they would fix a bad installation, and of course, the warranty is no longer in effect. They tell me I have to pay a minimum of $200 to have the carpet re-stretched and again move all that furniture. Since I have a rancher, there are not may places to go with these large pieces. They claim no responsibility for what was obviously a bad installation. While I do shop at Home Depot for other ready to use items, I will no longer buy anything that has to be installed. I would not have bought it there had I known they do not stand behind their contractors or products.

I purchased bamboo flooring which is a click-lock type of flooring requiring no glue. I also purchased the premier underlayment recommended by the sales person. The end, tongue and groove joints are coming apart. I think it is due to the slick surface of the underlayment. The vendor is blaming in on excess moisture. The planks started coming apart the first day they were laid.

Home depot will not take any blame and will not reimburse me for the extra labor involved to remove all the flooring and put it back with glue on the ends (which the vendor recommmended). No where in the instructions is glue mentioned. They also said to put an additional layer of moisture barrier down. All I was asking Home Depot for was a $500 discount on my purchase to cover the extra labor.

The flooring is made by Home Ledgends and is flawed. The ends do not lock and come apart with the slighest bit of traffic. I would strongly recommend to anyone wanting a new floor to go to a local flooring company. They usually stand behind their work.

Monetary damage because the job has to be done over and glue used to hold the ends together.

I installed an unfinished cherry floor in my family room. Then I rented a floor sander from Home Depot to sand it before finishing it. I got it home and tried to install the sandpaper sheet as instructed by the (very) young clerk at the Home Depot rental department, who told me that the rubber rim and the sticky sheet back would hold the sheet on. It didn't--the sandpaper was the size of the bottom of the sander, with no slack to go under the rubber bumper. The back of the sandpaper (with a peel-off backing) was not sticky enough to hold it in place. In 20', it came off 2 times and the sander turned itself off (intermittent short circuit, I believe) 3 times.

I took it back and explained the problems to another (very young) clerk. Gee, we'll have our repair guy check it out, was the response. Now, I'm an older woman who is not intimidated by tools, but I had no experience with floor sanders, so I spent a day or so thinking I was just too dumb and inept to make it work (except for the electrical short, which I realized was not my fault).

Finally, after obsessing about how I was going to get the floor sanded, I went to a local, non-chain rental place. They rented me a sander and provided sandpaper and a sort of mat which they said went between the metal bottom of the sander and the sandpaper. It worked (and my rustic cherry floor is beautiful). But anyone who is renting equipment at Home Depot (unless they're experienced with the equipment they're renting) should be aware that the Home Depot staff is too inexperienced to provide any information, support or even the right stuff, like the sander pads.

Cost of renting the sander, less a small credit I received because their stupid equipment did not work. My time. My irritation.

The Brazilian Cherry wood flooring (SKU 372-250)and installation (Invoice # 4608-313569)I purchased for $8,016.81 has the following three problems: 1) ends of wood planks curl upward; 2) individual wood planks are cracking--some lengthwise and others diagonally; and 3) increasing discoloration within each plank. While not all 3 problems exist in every plank, these 3 problems together render the entire floor unacceptable.

After my initial complaint in March 2008 to Mr. Ali A. We had laminate floors installed in March 08. The credit card is under my husband's name. The card limit needed to be increased to do the flooring but I was not allowed to do this with my husband not present. He was out of town at the time & stranded because of the weather. The snooty girl at the service desk, Toni, informed me that I would have to open my own account. Stupidly, I did & it has been nothing but a nightmare since. First, I took off work to wait for the delivery of materials. No show, no call.

When I called Home Depot, they were not concerned in the least, just said there was a mix-up with the time schedule & they would not be at my house until that evening. So rushing home after work, still had to wait a couple more hours after the given time of delivery. Talking to the Manager, Angie, did absolutely nothing. She is one of the most unprofessional people I've met. She explained away the problem & didn't even so much as apologize. So, stupidly again - we needed the rest of the house done so we went back because we figured since we have the cards there & didn't want to open another credit line, we'd go ahead & get our house finished.

The 2nd set of installers were rude, unprofessional & did sloppy work. They were in a hurry & messed up all of our baseboards. Then we had a repair needed under warranty from the first install. They send out one of the same guys from the 2nd one & he tore up the t-track only to tell me he didn't have anything that matched & the first guy who installed needed to be the one to fix it & I quote "It's not my problem." This was another day off work I had to take & now am sitting her with a big gap in my $3000 floor.

Calling the service desk did absolutely nothing. No manager could be found & no one at Home Depot cares about this problem. So I am nothing special & should have taken my non-special three thousand dollars to Lowe's! I will never set foot at any Home Depot again & warn anyone else wanting to use them for floors or anything else - don't do it! You will have problems from the get go. They will make simple tasks very complicated & you will make a huge, expensive mistake.

We were jilted - financially & through bad service & time taken off work that was for nothing. Not one person was found that cared about our situation. They don't care how their customers are treated, as long as they spend money. Not one more dime of ours will be spent at Home Depot though. Hard lesson learned!

Both Home Depot and the installation company inspectors acknowledged the installer would repair the damages free of charge and as soon as possible. Also noticed was four transitional strips were missing but not noticed by Home Depot prior to installation. We were told numerous times that this wasnt a big deal as the transition strips will be ordered and installed immediately. Its been close to a year and neither of the two have been resolved.

Ive spoken to Danny and Doug at the Lakeline store and when I call they know me by name, this says allot to the number of times Ive called. Every phone call ends with, Yes sir, were aware and will notify you as soon as the transition strips arrive. This cat and mouse game has been going on close to one year. When I got a call from the installation company they complained that there are only two transition strips available and that its not their problem and that I have to take it up with Home Depot. This is absurd to me as the consumer who was promised a completed product.

As of now Ive been told by Lakeline Home Depot employees to contacted Laurie Kincheon (Zone service manager Austin district 228). If the test failed, they would have to clean the area, and we would be charged for the cleaning. I pulled up the old carpet and some of the tack strips and cleaned thoroughly. They never conducted this very important test, that would affect the install and our guaranty.

The installers did not have either strips available. We were told the installers would move some furniture, they didn't. They said they were not paid enough to move furniture, only .50 per piece. The installers chipped my newly painted walls and splashed carpet glue all over, and on the newly installed tile. They did not vacuum after they finished laying the carpet and left approx 45 feet of excess carpet for us to store. They left bits of foam pad and other junk in the street in front of the house. We complained to Home-Depot via phone and internet QC questionare, to no avail. No one contacted us concerning the install.

So it is three months later, and the dog peed on the carpet. I tried to spot clean it, full steam cleaning was not yet neccesary, and there is a discolored area and it smells like dog pee. I contacted Home-Depot once more and related to them that I am concerned this is not the quality carpet we paid for. Of course, we were passed on and promised that some one would contact us. Here we are three business days after and I am calling them again. Sandra said an Inspector would contact me by phone or mail to schedule and appt. to test the carpet. I have a bad feeling about this...

Well, obviously the carpet will have to be replaced. Will they admit to installing the wrong carpet? We'll see, but I have little hope.

I orderered carpeting for our new vacation home on April 20, 2007. It was on sale, which caused me to assume that it was available within a reasonable amount of time. After 6 weeks of waiting, I was told that the manufacturer of the carpeting had just started weaving it. The carpet finally arrived at the store in Omak in mid-June. It is now July 25, and they still have not been able to schedule an installer.

I was referred to corporate since the Omak store was not getting the support they needed and were dealing with several other unhappy customers like me. After calling four different numbers across the Country that were purportedly for customer support and service, I gave up seeking help. I was disconnected, transferred, put on hold, etc., etc., and finally told Home Depot to keep their carpeting and credit my account. I will never do business with them again.

I received a written quote from Home Depot for Bamboo Hardwood Flooring. Somewhere in the quote was the word Laminate mentioned. I was ensured that it is actual wood since bamboo doesn't come in laminate. I was quoted just short of USD 8000. I paid with my credit card and was told that the installers would call within two days. The installers never called and I called back Home Depot. My order was never processed and I was not informed of this! The reason being was that Home Depot suddenly asked for USD 4000 more.

First I spoke with Vicki who had the same two prices I had (one for the wood and one for the installing) but she added up the installing twice. I tried to explain her basic math when she hung up. I contacted the main Home Depot office who then put me in contact with a manager at Home Depot Torrance. He was not willing to honor the written agreement either. I thought about fighting Home Depot in court. But frankly, these incompetent people don't deserve my money. I went to Carpet Wagon with terrific service and now have a better quality wood installed for the same price.

The Home Depot rep came to my house and measured the space for hardwood flooring. I ordered everything he suggested. We were told the installation around the fireplace would be under-cut which was explained as being the wood cut at an angel to fit close to the brick.

We were in another room during the installation, came out to discover our brick being sawed with a power saw and dust was all over the house, including in the grand piano that was open. Had I told, I certainly would have covered furniture. The dust is in my a/c vents, everywhere. My husband tried to get the house professionally cleaned by Home Depot but no one would take responsibility. It's been over 2 yrs now, I'm sure there's nothing else we can do. They put us off until we finally gave up. And as it turned out, they had sold me too much of everything. I could have guessed better than they measured.

I was flipping through google and came accross this website. I started to read complaints on Home Depot and realized they were talking about the same problems I had a few months back. I ordered wood floors back in Sept. 2005, and because I don't have a lot of time, I'll make this story short. I was told that the floors would be delivered in two weeks. The floors didn't come in two weeks. Instead at the two week mark I called and they said it would be another month.

When that month was up, I called again and they said it was going to be 3 months, because of back ordering. I was told it would be ready in early January now. Well, January came around, and when I called, they lost the order and would have to reorder the floors. Two weeks later, the floors came in. It took a total of 5 months to get an order that was supposed to be 2 weeks. Why did I wait so long? I was moving into a new home and I had left over floors of the same type that I wanted to use for my own floors.

I had to pay in full when I ordered the floors, which I didn't feel comfortable doing. Throughout the complaining, I finally got 5% knocked off. And that was a struggle because they wanted me to choose a different type of floor, and thought that they didn't need to compensate me because they were offering a different floor. I will never special order from Home depot again. I personally know 4 families who have had similar problems.

They called back 5 days later and said it would cost $1700.00 more for install. I canceled install but still wanted floor. The flooring guy canceled everything and told me to get floor it would take me 2 more weeks.

Cabinet installation company (Craft Masters) had to be called back to finish job properly (they didn't tape the sheetrock installation which was paid for). They asked me about back splash area behind sink I said eventually I would tile, they said we don't need to tape if you're going to tile area. Finally after complaining they came back.

My product arrives and I try for over a week and a half to get through to Cooper Flooring the contractor that Home Depot uses in my area. They finally came out and proceed to tell me they will not remove my base boards and need an additional $600 dollars on top of the $5,000 or so I had already paid Home Depot for product and installation.

I made some phone calls. While I was on the phone trying to get the bugs worked out, the installers pack up their van and leave. Eventually I got them back out there to install my floor. Well the base boards I thought I was receiving obviously did not show up, because they dont exist.

Before the base arrived and was stained the floors began separating dramatically. agetting them out to inspect my floor Chris Rangel the Store Manager agreed to replace it. They lasted for about 7 months. I then had to go back to them because the second floor Home Depot and Cooper Flooring the professionals installed began pulling away from the foundation.

After ordering Pergo flooring for entire home in April, and paying for entire order and install in full on April 25, 2004 ($16,500), it has taken nearly six months to get the installation done correctly.

For four months most of my furniture stayed in my garage as I had to be sure not to show evidence that I damaged any of the flooring or caused any of the problems (the installer continued to try to blame me or anything else he could for the problems).

While the problem was largely with Pacific Southwest Installation, Home Depot did very little for the first four months to get the problems fixed. In fact, I went through three different Home Depot reps in a four month period (they kept getting fired). After the fourth rep was assigned, the installation problems were finally done correctly on November 23 of this year.

My husband and I went to Home Depot in June of 2000 to look at laminate flooring. We were helped by Tony (a flooring associate) who introduced us to the wonders fo Pergo flooring. He showed us a certain kind called "oak block" and told us how easy it was to care for and how easy it was to install. He also told us about the pros and cons of Pergo flooring and asked us the dimensions of our rooms. My husband gave him the dimensions of our entire downstairs, including the kitchen and bathroom.

We purchased 23 boxes of this flooring along with the glue, foam under padding, acetone, and other tools necessary to do this project. Upon starting the project, my husband and I had some minor difficulties, but if we went to see Tony, he helped in any way.

Upon finishing my LR and Kitchen floors, my husband and I noticed that there was overlapping at the long seams of the planks. I went in to talk to Tony who proceeded to call Pergo and put me on the phone with a Pergo rep. I talked with the gentleman and he informed me to call back to set up a time when a rep could come to our house. In the meantime, I went back to HD and purchased 21 more boxes of flooring. With this flooring I began and finished my daughter's room and it came out perfect.

I decided to go ahead and do the bathroom and went in to HD to ask how to go about putting the flooring down around the toilet. I spoke with a different gentleman in flooring and showed him the flooring that I was using. He told me to remove the toilet and sold me a wax ring for when I replace it. I then put in my bathroom floor and it looks great.

A few days later, I went in to HD and talked to Tony about the silicone sealant that had to go around the base of the tub. He sold me the sealant, told me to make sure that I got it all aroung the area of the room, and wrote me up an estimate for Pergo T-mouldings.

In the meantime, I had called Pergo to have a rep come and look at the LR and Kitchen floors. I was given the number of a man who is Pergo certified and he came to my home. He stated that there was something wrong with the wood and that Pergo needed to replace it. I called Pergo back and they told me to file my claim through HD. I went to HD the next day with my receipt and the woman at the front desk began to ring in the information. She then informed me that this flooring WAS NOT made by Pergo. It then took three employees an hour and a half to figure out where the flooring came from and who manufactured it. At no point could they get in touch with a rep for this company.

I was told that one of HD's outside contractors would be in touch with me to come and take a look at it. In the meantime, I talked with the manager (Eric B.) and several employees who really had no right to be involved in the discussion. Mr. B explained to me that he probably was not going to do anything because the flooring was not supposed to go in the kitchen or bath. I then calmly told him that I would be in touch and left.

Their outside contractor never called and so I went back in to see Mr. B. I sat down with him and explained that on the advice of his employees I had installed it in my kit and Bath and felt that HD was a bit responsible for this entire situation. He informed me that he would give my situation the best attention he possibly could and I was told that he and Tony would come to my home themselves and look at the floors.

They came the following Sunday (and were two hours late) to look. They looked at the floors and while in the kitchen Tony recommended a plank replacement and I said that I did not want these floors in my kitchen or bath because I was told that they could not go in those rooms. He said, "Oh I sell these to people all the time for the kitchen and bath."

His manager heard him say this and said, "No, they cannot go in the kitchen or bath." Tony and Eric agreed that the floors did not go together right, measured my kit and Bath and told us that they would be back in touch with us no later than evening of the next day. Needless to say, we called them three days later after hearing nothing. Tony informed my husband that they were going to refund the money spent on the kitchen and bath, but were not too sure about the LR.

They simply wanted to do a plank replacement, however, there are 10 places that need plank replacements and that would cost over $1500. To simply replace the floor altogether would only cost about $1400. The next day I went into HD to talk to Tony. He informed me that he had found a flooring inspector that was neutral (not an HD contractor, not a contractor for the flooring company, etc.) who was going to call me to come look at the floors.

He then showed me some actual PERGO flooring that is currently on sale at 40% off. He stressed how great a deal this is. We sat down and crunched numbers and I told him that there would be at least a $500 difference and that I felt that was unfair. I told him that I felt like I should not have to pay the difference because since he had given me the wrong advice, I now had to rip up my current flooring, and replace it with more expensive flooring.

Tony's response to me was, "Well, all I can say is that we are only in this to make money." He also said that he was going to attempt to get the flooring inspector to convince the flooring company to pay for all three rooms that need to be replaced. He also asked me to not mention to the inspecor that he had given me advice on how to put the floors in my kit and bath. (I will say that putting in the first set of floors was a HUGE, time-consuming job. I probably spent well over 100 hours doing these four rooms.)

The flooring we bought initially cost about $1300 (this does not include glue, spacers, foam, tapping block, putty, a door jamb saw, etc) and I did the actual flooring) and that price will shoot up almost $550 because of the difference in cost. This cost only covers the simple planks, it does not include extras or the fact that I now have to do this work all over again.

The next day I went to talk to the manager again and he was much more interested in what was going on in his store then what I was saying. (The only time this man has been the least bit attentive or polite to me is when my husband was around.) I told him what Tony had said the previous day and he just blew it off. I also told him that I thought making the flooring company pay for the kitchen and bath was unfair because it was the employees of this HD store who gave me the advice and that's why we were all in this situation. I asked him about the flooring inspector and he told me that the man worked for the flooring company (yet another contradiction between these two).

I gave him a scenario about how to settle this, and in between looking at his registers, he basically said that he felt like my husband and I needed to accept some responsibility for the situation. I told him that we do, but as far as financially, I have certainly put in more that $550 worth of work and reminded him that if it had been professionally done, it would have cost over $2000. He sighed, looked down at me, and said, "I tell you what, you write down a couple of scenarios that appeal to you, get copies of all of your receipts, and get that to me as soon as possible. O.K., Mrs. C?" I was so angry and did not want to explode, so I left.

At this point (1-06-2002), I have four rooms that have the flooring, three that need to be removed and redone. So far I have heard nothing from the flooring inspector and am not sure who he even represents. I am waiting for him so that I can get an idea of what I am supposed to do. While waiting, I am considering speaking with a lawyer, hiring my own flooring inspector, and possibly contacting the local news to get this story out because it may save someone for making a big mistake by shopping at this store.

My husband and I began shopping exclusively at the Home Depot shortly after purchasing our home in Kentucky in May 1999. We have enjoyed our shopping experiences and have spent an average of $150 per month each month since then. However, due to a recent experience with the Kentucky store flooring department, we have reevaluated where we will make our purchases and are advising our friends and relatives to do the same.

On July 26, 2000, we purchased Pergo (original, gunstock oak) flooring for our kitchen, laundry room and two bathrooms totaling $1,641.11. Included in the purchase price was $80 for the removal and re-installation of both toilets as well as a delivery fee. We were immediately scheduled for installation on August 24, 2000.

On August 24 around 9:00am, the installation crew showed up at our front door. The crew appeared very rough and I was not sure whether they were there to rob me or install my flooring. One member of the crew sported a t-shirt that said, 100% whoop ass. Personally, I would NEVER have allowed them to enter my home if my husband had not been there. At that time, everything appeared to go well with the installation. The next day, my husband and I noticed several matters that concerned us. Both toilets were leaking, there was a 1 gap between the kitchen floor and the cabinet, our dishwasher would not fit into the original location and there were several spots where it appeared the top layer of the Pergo was coming apart.

On Friday, August 25, we visited the Home Depot and spoke with a flooring department associate. She agreed to contact the installer with our issues. The installer stopped by on Monday, August 28. He fixed the leaky toilets, filled the gap between the kitchen floor and cabinet and called Home Depot to suggest a Pergo inspector look at the spots where the product appeared to be separating. My husband and I were informed of the proper paper channel for the situation. It was our understanding that it would require an inspection by someone certified by the manufacturer and a written report being submitted to Pergo. The Home Depot and my husband and I would receive a copy of the report. Pergo would review the report and issue an opinion, which would determine if our floor would be replaced.

On September 13, Michael McK conducted an inspection of the flooring. To date, we have not received a copy of the report. On Wednesday, October 25, I had not heard anything about the flooring. I called the Home Depot and spoke with Mitch T in the flooring department. He said that he was working on my file and I had been approved, by Pergo, for a free replacement. At that time, I asked him if I would have my floor by the holidays, specifying Thanksgiving of this year. He replied yes. He promised that a new installer would call to schedule the installation.

The installation contractor scheduler, Dana F, called on November 13 and scheduled our new installation for November 28, five days after Thanksgiving. At that time, Dana said that she would call Home Depot to request the product be delivered. We were unhappy with this date because we wanted our floor fixed prior to Thanksgiving, but what choice did we have? After all, we had purchased the floor four months earlier.

On Sunday, November 26, my husband and I went to the Home Depot flooring department and spoke with James, a flooring department associate. We informed James that we were scheduled for a Pergo replacement installation on Tuesday and the product had not been delivered. Therefore, due to the products acclamation period, the installer had nothing to install and they needed to notify him that he did not need to show up. At that point, James offered to allow us to take the product home with us. We refused because we had originally paid $45 for delivery, $25 delivery plus an additional $20 to bring the product inside our home. James then attempted to contact Mitch at home, but was unsuccessful. He took my name and cell number and promised to leave Mitch a note detailing the ordeal. Additionally, he promised that Mitch would call me on Monday, November 27.

Monday, November 27, no call from Mitch or anyone at Home Depot. Tuesday, November 28, I received a call from the installer to re-schedule the installation. We scheduled Friday, December 1, eighteen and one half weeks after the purchase date. We could understand waiting almost five months for a special order flooring, but not for something that is always in abundance at your store. I immediately called Home Depot to speak with Mitch. He informed me that he had received a message regarding my situation on Monday, but left the store before taking care of it. He then continued to say that the store goes to great strides to notify the customer of the acclamation period for the product and we should have had some red flags going off when we saw that our installation date was approaching and we did not have the product. I informed Mr. Mitch that we were not going to accept any blame and that my husband and I attempted to fix the situation when I went to the store on Sunday, November 26 and noted that we were scheduled for an installation and had no Pergo. Mitch promised to arrange delivery for that afternoon, November 28 and referred me to the assistant store manager, Gary K. I spoke with Gary and he said that he personally would be delivering the product.

I informed him that I was very unhappy with the entire situation and simply replacing my floor would not compensate for the ordeal. Gary immediately agreed to refund my delivery fee, $45. When Gary delivered the product, he informed me that the store manager, Jim Householder, had approved either a $100 gift certificate or $100 credited to our charge account. Wow! I am thoroughly impressed. I am pleased to know exactly how much you value your customers as well as their time. That is 6.0934%. I understand bottom lines and I promise that I will do my best to affect yours.

Word of mouth is the best advertising. Friday, December 1, 2000, the installation crew arrived promptly at 9:00am. They were very professional and knowledgeable of the product. Upon pointing out our concerns and issues regarding specifics about the flooring, they began setting up, moving appliances and inspecting the products that were delivered on Tuesday, November 28. Immediately, they discovered that the wrong color Pergo had been delivered and therefore installation was, yet again, impossible. The installation crew phoned their supervisor and the installation scheduler, Dana, to inform them of the error. We rescheduled installation for Thursday, December 7, 2000 at 9:00am. I immediately called the Home Depot and requested to speak with Gary, who agreed to arrange delivery that day.

I waited for delivery notice until 5:15pm. At 5:30pm, Gary left a message requesting to deliver the product. Saturday, December 2 at 12:15pm, my husband phoned the Home Depot and requested to speak with Gary K to arrange delivery. Mr. K returned the call at 2:00pm. I informed Gary that my husband and I would only be home to accept delivery between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. At 4:30pm, Gary arrived with the product. My husband informed Mr. Kingsley that the $100 gift certificate offer made by the store manager, Jim H, was not acceptable. Gary immediately informed him that Mr. H had agreed to reimburse me for one day of lost wages, $400. At no point had Gary made this offer to me. My husband informed Gary that the only offer we would accept would be a full reimbursement of the purchase price, $1,641.11 and replacement of the flooring or that I be reimbursed for 3 days lost wages, $1,200 and replacement of the flooring. If our offer was not accepted, we were to be fully reimbursed for the flooring, they were to remove the current flooring and restore our linoleum to the original condition. Gary informed us that he would need to speak with the store manager. We reiterated that we will never again shop at the Home Depot.

On Sunday, December 3, Mr. K called and said that he had spoken with Jim H and that their original offer stood. My husband informed them that was unacceptable to us and that they we would contact them on Monday. Monday, December 4, my husband called and spoke with the regional manager. After explaining our situation, the regional manager spoke with Mr. H and informed both my husband and myself that they would reimburse us $800 or 2 days of my lost wages. We agreed to the offer. Several days later, two $400 money orders from Home Depot arrived in the mail.

On Thursday, December 7, the installers (Al, Sean and Jason) arrived promptly at 9:00 am. At that time, they informed me that it was going to take them two days due to the fact that they had to remove the original flooring and install the new. I told them that this was totally unacceptable and they decided that they would complete the process that day. They removed the original flooring along with the refrigerator, dishwasher and stove. After completing the installation, they returned my appliances to their original position and told me that they would have to replace a t-mold strip in one of the bathrooms because it was damaged during installation. I asked if anything else needed to be done and they said no.

On Monday, December 11, my husband and I woke to find our kitchen floor soaked! Apparently, the dishwasher was not installed correctly and had released the water underneath our new Pergo floor. We immediately called the Home Depot and Dana to report the incident. Dana scheduled Al to come by my home on Wednesday, December 13 to remove the wet flooring and for Sean to install a new floor on Saturday, December 15. Wednesday, December 13 Al visited my home. He, by himself, removed the flooring. In the process, he managed to dent the refrigerator, and chip the wall beside it.

Saturday, December 15 Sean and Jason arrive to install kitchen floor number three. At this time, I pointed out that my bottom cabinets had suffered some water damage. Sean called his boss, Bill, before beginning the installation. He informed me that Bill would need to look at the cabinets before anything could be done about them. However, installation would be carried through with the exception of the corner rounds, which would be complete after the cabinets were fixed. Monday, January 8, 2001 I phoned Dana to inquire why no one had contacted me since the December 15 installation. She said that she was not familiar with my situation and that she would need to speak with Bill.

Tuesday, January 9 Dana calls me and informs me that she has faxed my file to Bill and that I should hear from him soon. Monday, January 15 I receive a phone call from Bill indicating that he was in the area and would like to stop by to look at my kitchen cabinets. Upon arriving, I pointed out the following issues: a t-molding of the wrong color was used in one of the bathrooms, another t-mold in the same bathroom was cracked, the water damage on the cabinets, a dent in my refrigerator and chips on my wall. Bill agreed to have the t-molds replaced with the correct ones and acknowledged that the cabinets were damaged. He suggested that the kick boards around the bottom cabinets be removed, leaving them black underneath and that they place a piece of molding over the end of the cabinet to conceal the water damage. No mention was made of the dent in the refrigerator or chips in the wall.

I informed Bill that this was in no way acceptable. He explained that, he would hate to see Sean have to buy me some new cabinets. I quickly responded that I would hate to see Sean have to buy me some new cabinets also, but they were not damaged before his crew installed my flooring and I did not want to purchase new cabinets. He then explained that he would need to speak with Mitch from Home Depot, who would have to look at the cabinets. Wednesday, February 21 I still had heard nothing from either the contractor or Home Depot. I called Dana and she said that she would have to speak with Bill. She quickly returned my call and stated that she had spoken with Bill, who was waiting on Mitch from Home Depot. Dana also stated that she had phoned Mitch, but he was in a meeting and he would call me to discuss the cabinets.

Wednesday, April 4 I called the Home Depot and requested to speak to Mitch. Mitch said that he was waiting on me to call him about the Pergo floor. He immediately pointed the finger at me. He said that the installers did not remove my dishwasher, but simply put it back into place out of courtesy; that the contractor had offered to repair my cabinets, but I had declined and that he would call the contractor while I was on the line. He called the contractor and said that they needed to schedule a time to come by my house and look at the floor and the cabinets. Bill said that he would be in the area on Friday, April 13. I suggested a weekend date because I have missed enough work due to these issues and Mitch immediately said that he and Bill only worked Monday through Friday. I have been more than polite through this entire ordeal and I would hate to in any way inconvenience them!

Mitch further went on to comment that they were willing to repair my floor and cabinets, but I would have to make sure that I could be home in order for them to do it. At this point, I had taken enough of their abuse and said that I would give them one half hour on Friday, April 13 at 11:30 am and commented that I was tired of taking the blame for their mistakes. Mitch then said that he cannot follow up on events when he is waiting on me. I then said that I did not feel like I should have to harass them when they are aware of my problem and that they should address issues they know are outstanding. Further, I was NEVER informed that I was to tell them anything. When Bill left my home on January 15 he said that he would talk to Mitch about the cabinets and get back with me.

Again, on February 21, when I called Dana, she told me that she would have Mitch call me to schedule an appointment to look at my cabinets. I can see where I would get confused. Shortly after speaking with Mitch and Bill I contacted your customer affairs department. I spoke with a very polite man that listened to my story and then said that he would forward the complaint to Jim H who would contact me. NEVER during the entire ordeal has Mr. H contacted me. When my husband and I requested speaking to the store manager initially, we were directed to Mr. K. I also called Dana to verify that she had indeed told me that she had spoke with Mitch on February 21 and that he would be calling me. She confirmed and further stated that not only did she speak with him, but she had also faxed him her job summary for the week and had made a notation at the bottom of it that I had issues outstanding that he needed to resolve.

Mitch calls me and states that per Jim Householder, the appointment to look at my cabinets on April 13 had been cancelled because the contractor was turning it over to his insurance company. I would wait to hear from them. Together, my husband and I have invested a significant amount of time into this floor. In addition to the original installation time, one of us had to be home for the original installer to stop by on Monday, August 25, the inspection (approximately 3 hours), the November 28 installation, which did not happen, the December 1 installation, which did not happen, the December 7 installation, December 13 for the damaged flooring to be removed and on December 16 for the most recent installation.

I am self-employed. If I do not go to work, I do not earn anything. As a professional, my time alone is worth far more than the flooring originally cost! Please allow me to state again that my husband and I are disgusted with the entire experience. Our time is extremely valuable and we do not intend to spend much more of it dealing with this matter.

    Reviewed Feb. 9, 2001

Back in August 2000, my fiance received a new bathroom floor as a gift from my parents. Because we were getting married soon, we had Home Depot and several other companies bid on the project for a December/January install.

Two contractors who came to bid the bathroom vinyl project told us that our old, clawfoot tub would have to be removed, the current vinyl would likely have to be removed, or new underlayment put down, and bid the job. Home Depot sent out a sub-contractor to measure for the job (THR Carpeting) and prepared the bid for us. When my fiance, Amy, questioned the measurer about the tub and the old vinyl, he assured her the the tub could stay and they could just unhook the tub from the water and roll it on its side to lay the vinyl then put it back into place ... "A simple job," he said.

In addition, when Amy suggested the measurer look at the current vinyl to determine whether we have two layers or needed new underlayment, he said that they could just lay the vinyl over the old floor ... even though he could have easily looked a the vinyl because it was curled up under the tub within reach. So, based on the comments of the measurer and the competitive bid from Home Depot, we decided to go with them, since it wouldn't require removal of the tub (note: the tub could only be removed through the window at 300+lbs) or removal of the current vinyl (asbestos). It would be a much more carefreee and simple process.

We couldn't have been more wrong.

After our wedding in November we called Home Depot to schedule our install and they told us to schedule directly with Sierra Carpet who would be handling the installation. We did so and scheduled for December 27th, so we could spend the day at home while they finished the installation (8X10 bathroom!). The installer was to show up between 9 and 11 and didn't show up until 12:30. When he arrived he immediately told us that the tub would have to go. We explained what the measurer had said and the installer told us that was wrong. In addition, the installer said that the current vinyl would need to be either removed or covered with new wood, because it was two layers thick.

I immediately called Home Depot, and told them the situation, and convinced them that they should pay for the underlayment (wood) since their installer had made the mistake on the quote. After the phone call, I told the installer about the agreement, and he told me he'd have to come back tomorrow, because he didn't have his saw or any wood. He left the house a mess with stains from his dirty boots on the new carpet, the moulding torn off and left in the bathroom. The installer left and was to be back the following day to complete the job by 9am.

By the way, the bathroom (our only bathroom) had been out of commission all day, since we had to have our plumber take out the sink and the toilet to have the vinyl installed.

The next day, the installer didn't show up until 11:30 or so to work on the project. He started working on putting the wood down and insisted that the tub had to come out. We tried, unsuccessfully to get the tub out, until I told him it HAD to go out the window and we couldn't do it ourselves. I called Home Depot and asked them to coordinate someone to move the tub. After the installer had left the SECOND time (and two days without a toilet), Home Depot called and said that someone would be coming in the morning to move the tub, and the installer would be back to finish the job ... now, this is the 29th at this time. The tub-movers showed up right on time on Friday and moved the tub outside. In addition, the installer showed up to finish up the job. He was able to get the underlayment down and started on the vinyl. Home Depot had scheduled the tub-movers to come back at 4pm that day to put the tub back in and a plumber to come hook up our toilet and sink, since our plumber had left for the long weekend.

At 4 o'clock, I returned from some errands ... and using my brother's bathroom ... to find the installer outside on my neighbors driveway with my wife, who was looking very annoyed. When I asked what was going on, my wife informed me that the installer had miscut the vinyl and was short. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?

The installer had a few yards of vinyl left, but was off by about one 4" square of material. He said that the measurer had measured wrong for the pattern match. I told him I didn't care what had happened or who was to blame, but that Home Depot would deal with it. At this time the installer told me that he had lost his job, because he had talked badly about Home Depot to us. So, apparently they sent someone who had been fired because of this job to our house to finish it! I decided to call Home Depot and pull my wife inside from this angry and frustrated and frightening installer.

While I talked with Home Depot, the installer began packing up his stuff and was ready to leave when the tub-movers showed up. The tub movers also were installers and the owner of the company (THR ... the same people who measured originally) had a long, heated discussion with the installer, something about not having the sketches and/or following the proper procedure. The installer left for Home Depot to get another wax ring for us so we'd at least have the toilet.

About five minutes later the THR owner came up to tell us that he had called Home Depot, because the installer seemed drunk. I immediately called home Depot and talked with Tammy who said, "Your installer will not be coming back ... he's had too many cocktails at lunch and shouldn't be driving." Tammy and I went back and forth about what they could do to "make me happy" and we finally decided that they would put in a temporary floor while they reordered our special material, would put our bathroom back together that evening and then come back at a later time to put in the new floor. I told her that I expected a refund and she agreed.

A week later, we got a call back from Home Depot saying our special order vinyl was in and asking when we would be "picking it up." Apparently, the problems hadn't been communicated to the employee. At this time I brought the Folsom store manager into the picture and asked them to reschedule the install, coordinate the plumber/tub-mover because I didn't want to have to spend another four days of vacation time doing this. Tammy and her assistant showed up about an hour later with temporary vinyl and I suggested she call THR because they had an installer who just left our house when they couldn't put the tub back in. She called him and he agreed to put in the temporary floor that night.

Once everyone showed back up, the floor was in within 10 minutes. However, the plumber couldn't come back until after 4pm. So, we had to deal with day 3 without a bathroom, and only had a temporary floor. Home Depot scheduled an install a week later, and we were "ready to go." I had requested another install company, but they said that Sierra had to be given a chance to correct their mistake. This whole time our house looked awful with the carpets all but ruined due to traffic of workmen. Tammy at HD said they would cover the carpet-cleaning for us.

The 2nd round of the bathroom install was scheduled for January 21st. I received a call from Sierra at 10:30 on the 21st saying that their installer had the flu and couldn't install the vinyl, so we'd have to reschedule on Thursday or Friday, so the job would be complete by Friday at the latest. I called and talked with David U. again and told him that the free bathroom install wasn't enough compensation for living without a bathroom for four days and wasting 4 days of vacation time (note: the plumber who came on Friday night of the 29th stayed until 8:30 and left with only the toilet connected and the tub connected but leaking/inoperable. The plumber returned on Sat the 30th at 1pm and stayed until 4:30 fixing the problems) Dave Uhlenhop offered $500 cash for compensation, but I asked if they would install my kitchen for free since I had already had it bid...STUPID CHOICE! Dave said they would comp the kitchen floor, and ordered the vinyl.

Finally, Sierra rescheduled the install for the 25th of January and completed the job. There were more than the normal amount of scuffs/chips out of the woodwork, but we were pleased to have the project over. About two weeks later HD called to schedule the kitchen floor install. They scheduled the install ... with a different company as requested (Coverall) ... for Monday the 5th of February.

On Monday morning I dropped by my house at 11am and no one was there or had been. I found a message on my home machine (they have my work number!) telling me that their installer had his "tools stolen" and couldn't make the job. He could either come back on Tuesday afternoon and finish up Wednesday morning or come Wednesday morning and finish in one day. I called HD and Tammy told me that they had scheduled for Wednesday, because she figured we'd rather be bothered one day vs. two. I agreed.

On 2/7, the installer was not there yet at 10am. He was there around noon when I stopped by and had one small piece of underlayment down. When I asked him how the job was going he said, "Not very well ... it's a very difficult job. Can I come back tomorrow to finish?" I told him that I really wanted the job done today, because I've had nothing with problems during these installs. He said, "I can do a sloppy job and finish it up tonight, if you'd like." I told him no way and that he should talk with HD.

I went to HD and warned Tammy and Linda that the project looked bad, and that they should get another installer. Tammy told me that the manager of Coverall was there and they would stay until the job was done. I showed up at 1:30 after lunch to check the progress and was informed that the job would take Wednesday as well. I called Tammy at HD and told her I would accept that, because I want a job well done. The installer said he'd be back early on 2/8 to finish up ... shouldn't take long at all. I dropped by at 10:30 the next morning to see the progress and no one was there. I dropped by later after lunch around 1:30 and the installer and one other guy were there, and most of the floor was done. The installer was working on a seam and there was a small section of vinyl that had yet to be set into place. I left with the assurance that they'd be done by afternoon.

When I showed up at home that afternoon, I noticed problems. The seam was not a good pattern match, one area of the floor was crooked, the edges of the vinyl near the cabinets and other edges was rough and not glued properly and the area where the vinyl meets the carpet had a pocket. In addition, I noticed that the oven knob was missing and the metal knob was bent...apparently they'd knocked the oven on something when moving it. Also there were many nicks on the walls and the fridge had obviously been shoved down the side of the wall. At this point, I haven't yet looked for damage on the fridge. At this point, I've been going back and forth with HD to try and get someone to fix the floor. The best case scenario is that someone will come fix the floor on Tuesday 2/13. I'm not sure whether there is enough of the special order vinyl available to complete the job, which may mean another delay. Do I have any other options? Small claims court? I know that HD has been fairly generous with offering to install the floors for free, but the timing and process is horrible.
