How Hamilton works

Getting started with Hamilton is easy. You can either call to schedule an appointment or click the “Schedule Service” button on the website and fill out a brief form. From there, someone will contact you to discuss and confirm your appointment.

Beyond that, specific details will vary depending on the service you need. For example, simple AC maintenance may not require much planning, but if you’re having a new unit installed, the process will take longer.

Regardless of the service you need, Hamilton technicians take the following steps to keep your home clean:

  • Use work mats in your home
  • Wear shoe covers if needed
  • Haul away old AC units and other equipment
  • Clean up thoroughly when the job is done

Hamilton costs

Costs for Hamilton services will vary widely depending on the type and scope of work being done. For example, the average cost to replace an air conditioner nationwide is between $3,000 and $8,000, but fixing a clogged drain averages $150 to $350. Specifics can differ greatly from one house to another. For that reason, you'll need to contact Hamilton to get an evaluation and a quote.

Hamilton does, however, provide pricing for its two service plans:

  • The Essential Plan starts at $15 per month and includes priority service seven days a week, up to $1,000 in credit for a replacement system, 10% off repairs and accessories, $20 off diagnostic fees and two preventive maintenance visits per year.
  • The Elite Plan starts at $20 per month and offers the same priority service and two preventive visits, plus up to $1,500 in credit for a replacement system, 15% off repairs and accessories and $60 off diagnostic fees. For both plans, fees apply for add-on options, like electrical and indoor air quality services.

Hamilton charges by the job, not by the hour. The company calls this “No Surprises Pricing.” With this pricing model, you don’t have to worry about your bill ballooning because a project took longer than expected.

Hamilton offers financing through GoodLeap, so you can spread out payments on larger projects like AC installations.

Hamilton warranties and guarantees

Hamilton provides a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you’re not satisfied with the work within one year of the service date, Hamilton will attempt to rectify the issue and refund your money if necessary.

I put out on Angi's List that I was looking for a local plumber. Hamilton Plumbing was the first person to call. It was early in the morning. And I was just gonna leave a message, but someone answered and started talking. She asked me where I live, and I told her. She said, “I have a guy that's not too far from where you are. And he's finishing up a job soon. He could probably be there and be to you in about 30 minutes.” I asked her about the cost, and she told me. She asked, “Do you want me to send him?” I said, “Yes, send him.” Sure enough, the guy called me, and he said he was here. I went and opened the door, and he came in.

He looked at the thing on the wall, the controller air conditioner. The air conditioner was running, but he said, "I don't hear it kicking in. How do I get back there?” I told him. I went out, showed him the fence, and he asked me about animals in my backyard. I said, no. So, he went back there. Then I had opened the patio door. I said, "When you get ready, if you're gonna look for me, just come through this ‘cause I'm gonna unlock that." He wasn't out there very long. He came in, and he told me, “I think it's your capacitor. But what we do is we replace parts with the original parts. I don't have an original part. But I called my dispatch and told him that I didn't have an original capacitor in my truck, but I had another brand that would work. Normally, they want us to replace it with original parts.”

Then while we were standing there talking, he got an email. He said, "Okay, would you be willing to let me put the one in my truck? She said it would cost because if I have to wait for her to find an original one, then that means that I have to leave and go get it. And I don't know where it would be. But the one in the truck, I can go get it now and put it in.” I thought, “Okay. Let's do that then.” So, he did. He wasn't here that long, and he got it up and running. He washed it. He turned the water on and used the hose. After he got it started, he was cleaning, rinsing it, washing all the stuff off the fan. Then he wrote it up, and that was it. It was a good experience. He was in and out really quickly. He also told me about a service contract. And he said that he would send it to me, and he did.

Our heat pump was kicking on, and then immediately shut down. Hamilton sent out a guy and he was awesome. He worked late into the night and got it to where it was running. We live out in the country, so he had a little scare with a snake, but that didn't scare him off. He said he had to jump a certain circuit in the unit itself to get it to run and stay on. The very next day, we had a Hamilton sales guy come out, and we settled on a unit. Then the day after that, their guys came out and in one day, replaced the outside heat pump, the piping, and the inside furnace. Everything has been working really good. They were friendly, timely, and very knowledgeable. The price is high, but the quality of service was really, really good.

We had a little backup to the kitchen from the main drain. Hamilton sent a technician out. He was very professional. He had to call me because, somehow, my Google Map is saying that I live somewhere else. So, I had to guide him in here. I don't know why it did that, but it took him to my old house. I also got someone from Hamilton coming out today to have my air conditioner furnished because I haven't done it yet for the summer. I would use Hamilton. I would recommend them. I've had a good time with them. I've had a lot of work done. They've put my furnace and air conditioner in, and my electrical box because I had lightning strike my house and took it out six years ago. They did all that work.

There was something that Evergy technically did and they were like, "Hey, you have to fix it yourself.” We called Hamilton and had them fix it. They also did our air conditioner, our heater, and then our sump pump. The one wire that got us involved with Hamilton was over a year ago. Then the air conditioner and heater were replaced earlier this year.

The very first time, it was a struggle because Evergy shut off our electricity completely. The guy from Hamilton, Philip, was wonderful. He came out and he was like, "Oh, yeah. I can fix this tomorrow.” So, he came back the next day and got it fixed. Then Evergy said we had to have someone come out and inspect his work. He called Evergy and said, "Hey, it's going to drop to below zero. They need electricity. And they need it yesterday.” They told him we would have to wait another week. So, he called us, and he told my husband and I. Hamilton was like, “Oh, it's emergency? Okay.” They got it on that day. Hamilton fought for us.

It was determined that we needed a new air conditioner, and I had found that out before, but I wanted a second opinion to see if we could repair it instead of replacing it. So, I had a guy come out from Hamilton. Long story short, because of the type of Freon we had, he said, “You can't fix it.” So, he was supposed to get somebody. He even had somebody on the phone talking about getting somebody over to get me a bid for a new AC, and they never did. So, we ended up getting a different company to buy a new AC from. The Hamilton guy who came out was very nice and thorough. He seemed very knowledgeable. But somebody dropped the ball. I could have called them, but they're the ones that need to follow up on getting business. So, it was a disappointment.

We had been considering replacing our heating and air conditioning, and the Hamilton flyer came in the mail just at the right time. We had them come in and replace our air conditioner/heater unit. From the time they got here to the time they left, it took about 11 hours. So far, so good. We haven't done the heating part yet because it's not cold out. But the air conditioning has been staying right about 78 degrees, and haven't had a problem with it so far. Hamilton was very good to us. They were very good about explaining everything. The work took them a long time, but they have a lot to do. They had to go into a crawlspace under the house, and they had to get the old one out.

I had a sewer clog from roots, which is something I deal with every year, and I contacted Hamilton. They couldn't get to it and said it was probably collapsed and would need to be dug up. I wanted the whole line re-lined anyway, but the rep wasn’t sure. He said that even if they put the camera in and get it fixed, they have to out the camera back in there and see. He showed me the price list and I said okay. They started digging it up and it ended up costing about $10,000 more than what it was going to be originally, which I wasn't super happy about. Then, one of the workers was arguing and complaining and cussing about the original guy.

The phone representatives were usually good, nice, and helpful when taking my information. And the technician who first came out was alright. It was on a Saturday and he didn’t seem thrilled to be there, which no one is. But the whole process was confusing. Things that I was told would be included ended up not being included, and I’m wondering if that's why the original person handling the project never came back. He just said I needed to sign the loan paperwork that they sent. The total came to nearly $27,000. They later said they didn't know part of the line changed from 4 inches to 6 inches, but by then there was already a huge hole in my yard, and I had been without a toilet for five days, so I had no choice but to continue.

I didn't get to see if they hammered it. One of the guys told me they couldn't get the concrete out of my line, so the line just had concrete with a liner around it. When I asked what that meant, I was told it would be alright. They then left and never came back. They also left a mess and left my washing machine unhooked, which caused some flooding in my basement, although it wasn't too bad. I would have gone with a different company, knowing all of this, and maybe got more transparent pricing. Overall, I was not happy with my experience and would not use Hamilton again.

I came home three weeks to a month ago and had water coming up out of a drain in my utility room in the basement. I called a couple companies out and went with Hamilton. Brandon came out and he ended up concluding that I have two sewer lines in my house. I have one that's going out the front of my house, and I have another going out the back. He snaked both of them. He could not tell me where the one going out the back even went, where it connected to the city sewer line. At that point, I went to the city to try to get any information I could like permits and inspections. That was when I found out that the guy that remodeled this house pulled zero permits for anything. Nothing was done to code, permits, and inspections.

Brandon then snaked the front sewer line. That one was completely failing. He told me that he would put 10 feet. As soon as they dug the sewer line up, he called me and told me the worst case scenario happened, that they were probably gonna have to replace 50 to 60 feet more. He went all the way to the main sewer line. He quoted me between $20,000 to $30,000 to do it. I just gave them a little over five grand to do 10 feet and I told him I couldn't do $20,000 to $30,000 right then. I also told him I needed everything in an invoice and he told me he would send that over. But I've never heard from Brandon. I've never gotten any pictures of when it was actually snaked. I never got a write-out or even a quote to add on or fix the remainder of the sewer line.

I had Roto-Rooter come out here to snake it, but the plumber didn't even look at anything. That's probably another good thing for Hamilton. Before they even told me what they wanted to do, Brandon went ahead and snaked everything before he did any work. He told me what was gonna need to be done and charged me just the snaking price of it. Roto-Rooter didn't do that and they tried to charge me $1,400 an hour to do some work, which was snaking and jetting.

Then they had someone do the sewer scope again and just said that it needed cleaning. It needed a snake or an auger. So, I hired Hamilton to do that. But I'm disappointed because they did the auger and then they never contacted me. They were trying to do the video. I thought that was done all at the same time, but I wasn't informed. So, after we closed and someone bought the house, Hamilton kept contacting me, and they said they were gonna go, but then they would never show up. When the guy that Hamilton sent out took that machine, unclogged the sewer pipe, then took the machine downstairs on the basement, he made some damage on the basement stairs. Before entering the stairs, there is a kitchen floor and the kitchen floor by the door is clearly busted and cracked because of how heavy the machine is. After that, he wanted me to sign and said he was not performing any job unless I was not suing them for whatever damage.” I signed so there would be no embarrassment or any legal obligation for them to fix whatever damage that happened. I also don't expect them to do any repairs, but I really don't like to see the door by the basement and the cracks.

Also, that's something that they need to improve on because the unclogging machines are so heavy. We had a different company out when we changed our heater and when the guy took the heater down, he used a very improved kind of dolly that was like a robot. It stopped on every floor of the basement stairs and it had about 10 or 8 legs. It operated smoothly. So Hamilton should consider getting a better dolly like that.
