Had the furnace installed by Allens Plumbing and Heating in 4/7/97. Since then they have been here for repairs in 01, 02, 03, 04 - 3 of the 4 times have been for the HSI module (hot surface igniter), the other time for fan control board. Had a 5yr. Warranty so the first was covered except for labor. Was told by Allens they replace these all the time in this make of furnace carries a box in the truck. They also said they put the furnace in, don't make them. They also said they could put in a different kind of HSI unit for about 500.00 but not sure that would work either. Allens gave me the name and number of the furnace manufacturer. I called them and the man I talked to said he has not heard of any other complaints about the HSI unit. Could be an installation problem, should have a second opinion. Costing more money.

He said he would call me back with a person in this area. Of course never got a call and they don't return my messages. Called Allens and told them what he said about installation and they said even if it wasn't installed right would have nothing to do with HSI unit. That is all I've heard now. Allens address and no. 205 east 14th street, Elmira Heights, NY 14903 607-734-1026 fax 607-734-2700 model#gmpn-o88-4 serial#9701800525. Other number Goodmans gave me was 877-254-4729. It's a janitorial furnace. Thanks. No address for Goodmans - believe it was Texas area.

My husband & I purchased a new "spec" house in Feb., 1996. Since the house was already built we had no say in any of the pre-existing appliances. The heater/Ac unit was the problem and my husband who has been an electrician all of his life (he is 53 now) & even I (a police investigator now on disability) believe this specific heater to have a design problem. That problem is that the fan affects the circuit board-when the fan comes on/off-it shakes the circuit board. England's Plumbing, Heating & Cooling made the original installation. We have filed in PA against them for installing and old and defective model heater. We also want to file with your commission against them. (Do I need to file another complaint form with you?)

The heater broke in 1997, 1998, 1999 and in 2000 it broke 6 times & has not been repaired since the last repair in October. The house came with a heater warranty which was used each time the heater broke. However, Mr. Goodman allegedly revoked that warranty in July 2000 after his company paid for parts & labor for a massive repair. His local affiliate, England's would NOT repair my heater/ac until he knew who would pay him. At that time I was on several medications which made me ill when I was too hot. My husband works mid-night shift and sleeps in the day. For three weeks starting July 4, 2000, we sweated until England's decided to made the repair. That repair lasted until Labor Day when the unit broke again. They had the part, sent someone who I do not believe knew really what he was doing and at the end of September 2000, England's repaired the heater again.

This time we had to pay because Mr. England stated that Mr. Goodman cancelled my warranty. I was told by Goodman employees in customer service that since I had no information on the installation date that my warranty began when I purchased the home in Feb 1996. The "new" Goodman heater/ac was actually built in 1992 we found out. Ergo, Mr. Goodman said that the warranty was invalid as per Mr. England. We had replaced the circuit board 3 times over a 4 year time, a gas valve at least twice, the fan/mount at least twice. We have rebuilt the heater and it still to this day does not work and we need it in order for the AC unit to work and it is going to get into the muggy upper 80's-90 this week. We filed an e-mail complaint with Goodman's after the 5th break-down in 2000 (5 in one year) and they never responded.

Aug.1995 purchased a Goodman home furnace and air conditioner from Corbin Mechanical Romney, WV. who performed the installation. In Feb. 1997 the furnace went out. Was unable to get Corbin Mech. to repair furnace. Contacted James A. Stanley (advertised Factory repair service) to repair furnace. Furnace was found to have damaged heat exchanger and was replaced along with a cleaning of the furnace. A few weeks later furnace went out again. A second cleaning and second heat exchanger installed. I need to note at this time that the method of cleaning by Stanley was to disassemble furnace and clean with water. I was also basically forced to pay for duct work repairs I felt were not needed but was told by GOODMAN if repairs were not made warranty would be voided.

Repairs to duct work made and in a few weeks, furnace again went out. During this same time, Stanley replaced the printed circuit board 3 times. Stanley refused to come out. I attempted to contact GOODMAN who stated it had been reported by their representatives my basement filled with water resulting in water getting into furnace. (NOTE: only water to get into furnace was introduced by GOODMAN Rep). The decision not to replace the furnace appears to have come counsel Ralph **. I attempted on 2 occasions to contact him but he would not accept my calls or return them. I contacted the W. VA consumer affairs for mediation with no result.

The W. VA Consumer Division sent a letter to Mr. ** asking him to send someone from GOODMAN to our home to evaluate the furnace he made. No response other than his original response of GOODMAN had been to our home and the regular basement fill with water was the reason furnace had been damaged. I attempted to contact attorneys but was told they were not interested since I all I wanted was GOODMAN to stand behind their product and replace what was apparently a defective product.

May 2000 I emailed GOODMAN after seeing their ad on the internet regarding the warranty and how they lead the industry. I was contacted by "Susuan" who asked me to FAX info on the incident because their records were in storage. I did so. On May 9, 2000, "Susuan" contacted me stating she had turned it over to their counsel Mr.Ralph ** and he may be in touch with me. When asked, she replied she could not say. I also commented "Susuan this was the same man who refused to talk with me and made decision that GOODMAN would not repair furnace." I need to mention the heat exchangers have a lifetime manufacturer's warranty and the furnace a 5-yr warranty. Warranty will expire Aug. 2000. The air conditioner has not worked either.
