Third unit over the years always the same story. Evaporator coil will leak because they are not built to last. Yes all mine failed within the warranty period. Of course you have to pay a fee for the free part and the labor which is astronomical. Go Trane, Carrier or Lennox. More upfront cost but you won’t have major failures in 4 or 5 years. This product GSX 14 is built cheap.

We purchased our air unit in 2019. Our air wasn’t cooling properly, so I called the company out that installed our unit. I was informed that it was a leak in the coil. Although the part was covered under the warranty, his labor was not. He charged $500 ($200 labor + $300 for Freon that he had to replace). Today, he brought the coil to install it. We were charged $600 ($500 for labor and $100 for more Freon). After Googling, it seems as if leaky coils are an ongoing problem with Goodman units. I do not feel as if it’s fair that we had to pay for labor and Freon because of a defective part. Goodman should be held responsible for their product!

I bought a new AC system 5 years ago. The compressor went out 4 years ago. I have been on contract for over a year, and unable to get back to the house to have the work done. They didn’t care. Now I’m going to be out over $4k for a new system. If you value your wallet, don’t buy Goodman! Terrible product and terrible company!!!

Had new unit installed in summer of 2020. Jan 10, 2022 ac went out (Texas). We used our home warranty company and had 5 compressors over the next 10 months. Finally called the original installers to come back under the mfg warranty. They hardwired the unit so that the fan runs all of the time. We can't turn it off. Parts were ordered 11-29-23 and as of 8-4-2023 we still are waiting on parts. I feel like they are using all of the parts on people that don't have warranties and are paying for the parts. Never again will I use this company!

What a mess is all I can say. A year and half ago my parents bought 2 brand new Goodman AC units to help cut down on their energy costs and replace 20 year old units. One of the units aka “the unit from hell” (3 different techs said this) died within months of install. A year and half later and over 1500$ in labor spent trying to get this unit to work I at that point I’m ready to rip it out and install another brand. After trying to call Goodman their response is “we don’t deal directly with the consumer”. Ok then I won’t directly buy another unit from you ever again!

Goodman HVAC unit was installed 3 years ago. Unit worked fine for 2 years. Then I was notified of a recall. After that work was performed, we stop getting heat. It took 6 repair visits to get it running reliably. Now that it's warmer, we have no a/c and are already on our third repair visit. Goodman broke the unit or maybe it was defective from the start but nobody knows how to fix it or cares. This is a bad company and the next call I make will be to my lawyer.

Bought two unit about three years ago. One unit failed in under a year. They tried to fix with a new compressor. This worked for about two weeks and failed again. Replaced unit under warranty after I complained and read the warranty statement to them. Been working good since. The other unit is now failing the same way as the first unit. Replaced the compressor, didn't fix it. It is getting worse as the days go by. Goodman sent two techs. Out to diagnosis the unit. The one tech. Keith ** was exceptionally RUDE. The other tech. was quiet and just followed the lead of Harris.
The Goodman Techs. arrived in a plain automobile and no identification and proceeded to climb onto my roof. My wife asked who they may be and Harris just said Diakin and went onto the roof. I went onto the roof and he never introduced himself to me the home owner. Harris was rude to everyone there including his coworker. Talked down to everyone there. Appeared he used this to make up for his inexperience. No social skills. Harris said he wanted several hours of work done on this unit which would have exceeded the cost of a new unit.
I already spent $1200.00 on this unit plus the compressor which Goodman supplied. Now we had six people looking at this unit at one time. AT WHAT COST. Contacted Goodman Manufacturing and they are little to no help. Don't seem to want to stand behind their products. When contacting the company the operator is/was rude and would not put me through to a supervision. Left me on the phone and wouldn't say anything. I asked, "You still there." She said, "I don't have anything to say." The Tech. who came here never turned in a diagnostic report to my tech/installer. If I have to replace this unit it will be with another brand. These two units were manufactured at the same time with the same problems. Bad run of units? Case #**.

As a dissatisfied customer, I would like to share my negative experience with the Goodman furnace. Unfortunately, the furnace broke down in just two years of usage, which is incredibly disappointing. Moreover, the technicians sent by Goodman to fix the furnace have been entirely useless in solving the issue that started in September 2022. Despite paying over $500 for their services, there has been no solution provided, leaving me and my family in the cold. Adding to my frustration, the Goodman customer service staff has been incredibly rude, unhelpful, and unwilling to listen to my concerns. I have asked for parts to be shipped, but they have refused to listen to my request, making me feel like they do not care about their customers' satisfaction.
As a result of this negative experience, I can confidently say that I will never buy any Goodman products again, and I cannot recommend anyone to use them. It is incredibly disappointing that a company that claims to provide high-quality products and services has failed to deliver on their promises, leaving customers like me to suffer the consequences. In conclusion, if you are looking for a reliable furnace brand, I strongly suggest that you look elsewhere, as my experience with Goodman has left me feeling disappointed, frustrated, and out of pocket.

Updated on 07/26/2024: Paid for 5 or 6 diagnostic from local hvc company never received any useful info from Foodman. Several boards were replaced after spending over $800 in diagnostics. Hired another hvac company. After 2 trips and diagnostics they determined it was a bad unit. The unit was replaced at a cost of $1330 for installation and transportation (now over $2100). The replacement failed in April while having service done - compressor would not turn on. Currently waiting for goodman to determine if system will be replaced. This will again cost $1500 for transportation and installation if they decide to replace it. Going on 2 weeks, luckily I have another unit to fall back on.
Original: Bought 2d Goodman system after a.c. failed, have a regular a.c. also goodman. The heat pump has not functioned properly since install. Very erratic operation. It is a waste of electricity even though was sold as an energy saver. Runs for 20 to 30 min and never gets above 75 output. This is with 70 room temp and 70 set on thermostat. Has had circuit board replaced and installer came in and rebuilt duct system. I am so frustrated especially after paying a premium price. Thinking about having it removed even if only 7 months old if I could find someone to give me half what I paid for it. It sucks.

We have 2 of their A/C units, one unit has had a problem before, and now has another problem with the coil. Unfortunately, I discovered that I didn't get the 10-year warranty because it wasn't registered within 60 days of installation while my house was still being built. I asked if they would help me out due to this issue with the late registration, but they declined. I was just hoping that they would understand and work with me but apparently, they won't make exceptions, so now I have to pay $1,600 for another coil. Disappointed that this large unit has broken down twice, so we will be having to pay every time it breaks down, Florida climate makes it necessary to have these units working in good order at all times. I think the unit shouldn't break down twice in five years, so beware and register within 60 days.

Over this past weekend my furnace stopped working. Because it was 30 degrees I had someone come out for a 250.00 fee for weekend service. They said switch for air blower was broken and they did not have it in stock. Went all weekend without heat. Came on Tuesday and that was not the issue. The entire air blower mechanism needed to be replaced costing me $450.00. I contacted Goodman and they have yet to respond. I will NEVER recommend this unit to anyone.

I will NEVER buy another @Goodman_Mfg (Good Air Conditioning & Heating) unit! If you're considering such a transaction -- just don't! My unit has six years left on the warranty, and although Goodman has coils to manufacture and sell new units EXACTLY like mine (I can buy one today and have it installed for $3,000 and change), for some reason--Goodman cannot find a replacement coil for my warrantied A/C unit that is four years old.
Goodman has a really good game -- headquarters in TX refuses to speak with the homeowner/end user. All communication has to take place between the Distribution Center (WPB) and the a/c tech. If you call their homeowner support line--the ONLY support they offer is to assist you in registering your warranty. Nothing else. Nada. I cannot get ANY information out of them as to WHEN I will either receive a replacement coil or approval for a replacement unit.
My A/C person has followed up on this diligently and has not been able to get much out of them other than--Goodman MIGHT have a replacement coil for my unit SOMETIME NEXT WEEK (hurricane is forecasted to hit here in Florida then). Here's the fun part--in addition to asthma, I have Covid (tested + on Tuesday night, 09/20/22). The temp inside my house is 89'/90', and the humidity is so high it feels like a gd swamp. I feel like I'm trying to breathe underwater. Thanks to Covid, checking into a hotel or staying with friends is not an option. Checking into the hospital may be my next alternative.
Goodman's product, their 10 yr. warranty, and their non-existent homeowner support is not worth a warm bucket of spit. Welcome to capitalism! BTW, #Satoru Akama (CEO) and #daikinairconditioning I rate your company a -10.

We bought a new Goodman furnace and air unit. $14,000. The humidity is horrible!!! 57%-68% everyday and night. The repair guys tell me to turn it down to 67*, well that’s too dang cold for us, we are in our 70’s. Then they said to keep fan on 24-7, all of this deletes the purpose of high energy savings. What crap! Hours and hours of service men here and the humidity still doesn’t go below 57%. They keep telling me an air conditioning unit DOES NOT remove humidity. Every home we had, the air conditioning took the humidity out to a comfortable level. Our 22 yr old unit did just fine. So much for updating The two units. So RUN FROM GOODMAN if you like lower humidity!!!! Now they say we need a whole house dehumidifier for $2000 more, are you kidding me?? We’ve lived in this house for 7 yrs, NEVER EVER have we had high humidity.

Their unit breaks down after two days of the unit gets installed by a professional.
The air handler I have has a valve that's internal of their product. Who would think that when you purchase a product it should be working correctly. Customer Service and not willing to cover the repair job done at home. I am a Korean veteran 95 years of age and boy do I feel like it was taken for Advantage. I am now set with a repair job of $745.00 for something that was already installed, by a Professional, then failed after 2 days. I wanted to know if a PRO1/T-170 is compatible with a Goodman Three (3) Ton Unit? What's so wrong to not help your buyer's in any or all needs? These A/C & Heating Units are very important to keep in Excellent Standards. I purchased this Thermostat, & it cools off quickly, but it doesn't seem to move down fast enough to my temperature I programmed it to.
Now, can any Educated Person give me an answer? I smell a burnt smell after the A/C stops running. I don't want problems, but someway, somehow, I notice these unexpected events. I'm covered through 2024 on all parts. Now, is there someone who will explain why this is happening? Do I have the wrong Thermostat in my Unit? All information will be very helpful. Thank You!

In 2020, I purchased a 16 SEER Air Conditioning unit and a cased evaporator coil after the coils on my old Carrier unit (which I loved) failed due to age. Since the new coil required an updated refrigerant, I decided to replace the AC unit as well. The installation went smoothly, and the unit (although failing to cool quite as well as its predecessor) has been functioning without issue. Fast forward to last weekend, when I received a letter from Goodman, stating that they were issuing a voluntary recall on their evaporator coil drain pans (“under abnormal conditions, the drain pans may overheat, deform and melt, posing a fire hazard”). Of course, whenever I see the words “fire hazard”, I sit up and take notice.
I immediately contacted Goodman and found out that my unit was affected. Initially, I was impressed that they quickly sent out a replacement kit - which took only a couple of days to arrive at my home. But unfortunately, my experience has accelerated downhill from there. Goodman provides their own technicians to effect these types of repairs - apparently because these dealers are willing to complete the job at a rock bottom price. As a homeowner, I have specific vendors that I have trusted over the years who know me and my home, and I would prefer to have the repairs effected by the HVAC company that has performed my service for many years.
Goodman does allow for these “third-party” repair preferences, and my HVAC company was able to price out the job. Unfortunately, when they filed their claim with Goodman, they determined that only a nominal amount would be disbursed, and that the balance (which was over $600) would have to be covered at my expense. Think: “You totaled your $40,000 vehicle, and the insurance company is only prepared to issue you a check for $20,000”.
Since discovering that I am on the hook for $600+ in order for Goodman’s problematic part to be repaired correctly (and which I would think they would want to avoid fixing “on the cheap”, since they apparently didn’t get the original design correct in the first place), I have tried every avenue I could think of to avoid having to foot such a large bill myself: 1. I talked to my HVAC company to determine if there was any way they could affect the repair for less. Nope. Replacing the pan will require removing that coil, and that’s a two-man job.
2. I called Goodman’s recall department (which - although staffed by friendly people - is really just a call center). They said they couldn’t help and directed me to the main Goodman number. 3. I called the main Goodman number and was told that they have technicians that have agreed to the rock bottom “you get what you pay for” price, and that if I don’t want to use one of those, I’ll have to pay the difference myself. Gives new meaning to the term “paying customer”. 4. I asked what this rock bottom price was. After a brief hold, I was told that Goodman cannot release the actual amount of the rock bottom price.
5. I asked to speak to a supervisor. After some recalcitrance, I was finally connected with said supervisor, who rendered the same explanation. In essence: “You have to use one of our techs-who-you-have-knowledge-of-and-cannot-vouch-for-the-quality-of-their-work-and-oh-by-the-way-they’ve-agreed-to-do-the-repair-for-the-rock-bottom-price-that-we-won’t-tell-you-what-it-is or else you must pay the difference yourself”.
6. After thinking about things, I decided to try to vet their list of vendors to see if I could indeed go with one of them. I called Goodman back and was immediately told that Goodman doesn’t release the names of these vendors. “You can go to our website for a list of certified Goodman vendors, but there’s no guarantee that the one you call is the one that has agreed to do the repair. And oh, by the way, our process is not for you to call them. They will contact you when they are able to fit you in to the 500,000+ repairs that have to be made”. Needless to say, at this point, frustration levels were through the roof.
Continuing... 7. I opened the Goodman website and found a list of certified vendors - scrolling through them and using the point-and-click method, coupled with “they have a nice sounding name” to pick one at random. I found a vendor after a few minutes, checked their reviews (they were good), and called. I was immediately connected to a receptionist who promptly dropped my call. I called back, got the same receptionist, and was able to talk for about 30 seconds before she dropped my call again. 8. I called a second vendor and was told that they weren’t sure whether or not they did Goodman recall repairs. They would get back with me once their service manager had an opportunity. No call came that day.
9. I called my home warranty company to see if they could help with my $600+ passed-along-to-customer cost. They were very nice, and nicely told me that my warranty does not cover manufacturer recalls. So, that pretty much brings the saga up-to-date. I absolutely loathe feeling so defeated, and have pretty much resigned myself to paying $600+ to correctly repair Goodman’s defective manufacturer part. This was my first Goodman unit, and - one thing I can absolutely promise - it will definitely be my last.

Had a Goodman GSZ14 Heat Pump and Air Handler system installed in my house. The units ran trouble free for about four years. Last week the house lights would randomly flicker, yesterday the Heat Pump stopped working. The repairman found that a wiring bundle was ty-wrapped to a coolant line and the vibration of the system wore through the wire insulation and shorted out on the coolant line and arced a hole in that line causing the coolant to escape and shut down the unit. The wire was on a high voltage circuit so every time it shorted out, our house lights would flicker.
The repairman was able to repair the hole in the coolant line, high voltage line and reroute the wiring away from the metal components. Warranty? Sorry, coolant not covered, no real parts needed replacing so I was stuck with an $800 service call. ADVICE: Check the wiring routing in the outside unit for loose wire bundle and tighten/reroute wiring away from metal components. This was a QC fail.

Our house has two HVAC units. Had both air conditioners replaced just under two years ago. The coil from the bigger unit cracked, and all the refrigerant leaked out. The warranty covered the part, the cheapest item of the repair. The warranty did NOT cover the labor or the $1500 worth of refrigerant that leaked. What a gyp. It's not like we did anything out of character. We paid a certified installer to install a new unit. Air conditioners use refrigerant. If the unit breaks, the refrigerant leaks out. This should be covered. The treatment from Goodman (also known as Diakin) is that if you pay to have brakes installed on your car, and the brakes fail causing your car to get totaled, Goodman will pay for new brakes, but not to have them installed, or to have the car repaired or replaced, saying "we're terribly sorry our brakes failed, but the rest of the car, well, that's just incidental, we won't cover you, that's on you."
This gets worse. I posted a review on their website. They emailed me asking for more information. They emailed me back asking me to call. I called. They found my warranty, but had no idea why I was told to call. The lady said "it must have been our media team". And that was it! Oh yeah, I checked, they removed my negative review from their website. On top of that, they obviously manipulate their reviews. In addition to removing mine, they left another review that gave one star, but talked about how Goodman made the best unit every. Can't even own up to their mistakes. I will not make the mistake with Goodman again. Our furnaces are probably going to go in the next few years, certainly will avoid Goodman and Diakin.

In fact, it's almost like they transferred the CS to another firm. Email responses didn't even make sense. Filed formal complaint with BBB and company's response was no better. I live in the NW and had my old unit replaced 6-2020 with a Goodman unit. The unit ran fine but was air only we have gas heat. So that said it only ran for app. 20 day in 2020. This year as temperatures rose in late June it started running for an additional 7 day then died completely by July 16th. That means this unit actually only lasted new for 37 days of A/C service. If it was a heat pump unit delivering heat that would have likely only lasted 1 month. That cost over 2500.00 for one months usage! No one wants to work on it. Just charge over 200.00 to diagnose the compressor is junk. We are left to suit the dealer who claimed 12 year parts & service extended Warranty on our contract in writing, and buy a real A/C unit that will last.
Over 30 days usage. At my last home I sold in 2017 we put in a unit in 1997 upon our purchasing the home. It was a heat pump running all summer & winter. This was installed in a new built home. My husband passed away suddenly 2 days before the day of the closing back in 2013, and I had no time or clear head to learn about warranties. The crooked contractor never registered the unit under my name, and therefore when it broke this year I could not claim any warranty. Laws in Texas only benefit corporations but not the individuals. The manufacturers will give better price to contractors with licenses, and higher prices to home owners.
If you own your house, make sure you register any device you buy under your name, specially if you are a lady, try to avoid service companies to buy devices. Most contractors (installers, distributors, repair companies) in Texas are vultures, awful rats, they will take your money and never disclose the real price they get from manufacturers. I hope no other parts go bad but I bet they will from reading other reviews. My advise avoid Goodman products, they are junk and even though they are covered by warranty you will pay an excessive price for labor charges.

Goodman refused to honor their extended warranty on my furnace on a known defect, stating that the Service Provider must be approved by the Goodman Extended Service Department; and not every "authorized" Goodman Dealer carries this authorization status. Like other reviews regarding Goodman on this website, the Consumer must make informed decisions not just based on the words in the Goodman contracts, but based on other Consumers' experience as well. The devil is in the details when dealing with Goodman. Not a great way to build Consumer trust, but this is Goodman's prerogative to govern their business as they choose and to the sole benefit of Goodman; not the Consumer. BUYER BE VERY AWARE.

We got what we were told was a top of the line Goodman HVAC natural gas unit. It was installed this September (2019). All was well until it got cold and we turned on the heat. Gas smells arose from the floor heating vents. It doesn't happen all the time but there are great bursts of gas intermittently. And -- get this-- our carbon monoxide detector started beeping. We were so naive that we thought the detector was broken and replaced it. Then the new one started going off! We called the installer. They came out and could detect no leak from the outside unit. It was discovered that there was a gap where the unit had slipped off the base. They fixed that. We were hoping that meant the problem was solved. Nope. The gas smell in the vent is even stronger. I'm told that means the heat convector is cracked or broken or defective. This is a brand new unit. What the hell?

I called Goodman about both units and they would not honor either warranty. If you do buy one make sure it is registered and the date it was made not just installed. And when I took another look at the warranty it is not covered if bought on the internet. I currently am talking to a few attorneys about their warranty practice and what can be done. New contractor found that original installer did not register the units and registered them with Goodman. Just had motor fail right after 5 year anniversary. Assumed it was covered for another 5 years. Goodman said no, because original installer "had not registered within 60 days of their purchase" warranty dropped to five years and my $25,000 system cost me another $800 to repair out of warranty. Goodman has gone out of their way to write a warranty that is essentially useless to the consumer and keeps them from having to back the substandard product they're pedaling. Pathetic experience. When we bought our house, we thought getting a new AC would be a good idea. The old one hadn't been properly maintained and summer was approaching. We had a new outside unit installed, plus new furnace (gas), and air handler. Everything worked great for the first two summers. The 16 SEER unit did a good job keeping up with the blazing Georgia heat, and our electrical bill wasn't too bad. 20 months after it was installed, the motor failed on the outside unit. The compressor was running, but the fan wouldn't turn.
I just had the guy out from the company that installed it, and he verified it's the motor. So, I now have to wait for a new motor to ship and then be replaced. In all, this is going to cost me $350 in shipping and labor (yes, I'm paying shipping, too). It was good while it lasted, but, talk about buyer's remorse. The largest HVAC vendor (also a Goodman dealer) in the area will only cover the parts but not honor the labor warranty. The answer back is that Goodman is either slow or never reimburses the dealers/vendors on labor and so the vendors won't honor it. I called Goodman for other HVAC vendors to call. I called them up to see if the installation was still acceptable, despite not being per their guidelines, or if I should talk to the contractor about re-doing it. I figured that if Goodman said it is acceptable, then I would drop the matter; if Goodman said it isn't acceptable, I would have more leverage in asking the work to be re-done.
As a homeowner, they refused to talk to me; they said to talk to a Goodman installer. I told them my problem was with an installer, so how could I be sure that another installer would give good advice. (I am a retired HVAC engineer, so I would understand whatever technical advice they gave.) I can understand them wanting to be careful what they say, and refer many questions to an installer, since most people don't understand HVAC, but my question is a simple one, "Is the installation acceptable as-is?" With this kind of support, no, I will not buy a Goodman unit.

Then 4 years in a row the fine Goodman outside unit has failed in midsummer and is down again right now. It has had coils replaced and compressors replaced and is still under warranty, but when ac repair crew gets out here again maybe Tuesday, I am going to cut my losses and have this junk removed from my sight. It is still under warranty, but I see no reason to keep this unit in service.
Right now I think it is the compressor out again, that will be number 3. This needs to be completely removed and everything repaired under furnace to stop water and mold. Can't believe they can sell such poor equipment to people in this country. Our experience with the Goodman Air Conditioning unit started after buying a newly constructed home that included an air conditioning unit. When we bought our home, we noticed that the unit had been placed near the main bedroom which prompted us to ask if there would be a noise issue when the unit was on. We were told that it shouldn't be much of of noise problem, which should have clued me in when they said"not much of a problem". The unit works good when it comes to cooling the house (except in the most extreme side of the 2nd bedroom where air flow is diminished compared to other rooms).
The main problem with the unit is the noise that it emits when the condenser is on. In the main bedroom, it sounds like an old 1970's washing machine that has a constant churning-like sound instead of the constant, regular, humming drone sound which we would be okay with. All efforts to see if this was normal turned out that all systems checked out okay. We were told that sound is "normal" and engineered that way into the product. If you get one, just make sure it's not located anywhere near a sleeping quarter room.

I called an AC company and they found 2 lizards inside the compressor which were fried on a computer board, thus this caused the system to stop working. The computer board was covered in warranty however, I had to pay for the labor. Fast forward about 12-13 months (current issue) my system stopped working again. I called the AC company back out and this time they found 4 dead lizards inside the outdoor compressor.
Last week I mailed a letter to Goodman in Texas and included a picture of the dead lizards still inside the unit. Having not heard from anyone I decided to call their customer service number. After giving the rep my information she put me on hold for 2-3 minutes and when she returned to the line I was advised that I should call a pest control company and that they have no control over lizards getting in to their product. I've never heard such poor excuse for standing behind your product. Here in Florida we have a lot of outdoor critters including lizards. This Daikin compressor was built to be installed outdoors so why wasn't it built to keep lizards and other rodents out of the system so that they cannot cause damage to the unit?
I can get the parts replaced under warranty but each time it's costing me around $250 in labor. PLUS I can fix it today and if another lizard gets in to the compressor next week it could easily fail again. I am 100% not happy with the extremely poor way that Goodman has handled this issue. In particular the build quality is super cheap and flimsy and their quality control is extremely poor. I've installed 30 gas furnaces in the last year and 10 of them all had wiring issues such as Molex plugs with uncrimped connections. The wires were not even stripped back and also the female spade terminals were poorly attached causing me to waste my time to fix their poorly assembled units. The last straw was I installed a brand new 80000 BTU 92% furnace for a very good customer of mine and it hasn't worked right since it had been installed. Now mind you this is not any fault of installation but fault of Goodman instead.
The gas valve was dead on arrival so I thought, "Ah. No big deal. I'll just go ahead and replace the gas valve. Things happen," I thought to my self. Well, in goes the new gas valve still not operating so then I'm looking at a new replacement circuit board and now I'm furious and the customer's not too happy either. So go the new board installed. Didn't fix the issue either. Now I'm fighting with customer service who is useless by the way and unwilling to help me resolve the issues. The customer service manager was dodging my phone calls and wouldn't return any of my calls. I didn't want an unhappy customer and wanted them to have heat so I removed that pile of junk and put in a New York furnace. Fired up beautifully. No problems and now the customer's happy. But I'll tell you I'm happy that the customer's happy but I'm not happy with Goodman.
Please whoever reads this refuse Goodman products. They suck. They don't care about you or me and they are not cheap to buy either. Do yourself a favor and buy a quality brand and not this cheaply made trash. It made me look bad to the customer installing a brand new unit that should have had zero problems but ended up hurting me financially as I had to buy the customer a new furnace because they wouldn't help or even refund me for this defective unit. Hopefully they go out of business selling shoddy equipment to us honest hardworking Americans like us. I will never recommend or sell Goodman ever again and will spread the word. Have a blessed day.

Goodman was called by the installing A/C company for a replacement part and asked them to cover the install due to their part being faulty. Goodman refused to help or cover the labor cost. DO NOT BUY A GOODMAN! I’m cutting my losses and getting a better system from a company that cares about their customers.

Stay away from Goodman Manufacturing if you are looking for quality and longevity. We were pressured by our property management to install Goodman systems for our 11000 s.f store. We objected but felt some degree of duress since we were hoping to have a good relationship with our landlord over the 10 year lease we were signing. We finally capitulated. Within five years all three units were "bad" according to two different companies. The company that replaced them used Daikin which apparently is owned by Goodman or vice versa. One of those units has failed at just one year and during the polar vortex at that. "Parts have been ordered" but it has been weeks that we have been operating on auxiliary heat which is very expensive. We have spent thousands and been uncomfortable both in Summer and Winter due to poor performance for the duration of operation. These companies are wasting precious resources manufacturing garbage.

Goodman knew all these issues and kept stonewalling us and now COLDEST weather of the year is here and NO HEAT. They knew last year it was a piece of crap and were supposed to give us NEW UNIT. This is shameful! Husband a disabled vet, can't ambulance well, and now we wake up FREEZING because Goodman are crooks. Clanking noise I heard yesterday is probably compressor but boss has to come out TOMORROW while we freeze! This is OUTRAGEOUS and DANGEROUS! This piece should have been replaced already!
Updated on 01/29/2019: UPDATE! New defrost sensor put in on 1/18/2019 and now the unit is making such a loud clacking noise it woke me up. I have already written all the problems this unit has had from day one. This thing has broke every season and continues. The tech has to come out again today. We were told LAST year the unit would be replaced because of so many issues. Now Goodman is blowing us off, and not keeping their end of the bargain. 4 years of nothing but trouble and $7500.00 later and no resolution? My husband is a disabled veteran and cannot do much. Goodman needs to answer our concerns and get us a NEW UNIT as they said they would!
Original review: I am sitting here waiting AGAIN for the technician to service this thing. Every season since buying it in 2015 something has broke. Last year it was the coil and drove our bill up so high before repair our budget amount was huge. Circuit board been replaced, refrigerant and Freon leaks, relay switch, and more. Tech has not given receipts for each time he came out saying he keeps them on his computer. When coil was replaced the dealer said no more fixes. If it breaks AGAIN the unit will have to be replaced. Well he left and new dealer/rep changing details. Says he has to call Texas to talk to company. This is a piece of JUNK!! We did not pay $7500.00 to have someone coming out fixing something every time the season changes!!! GOODMAN we want a new unit!! You are a thief putting out defective products.

Contacted the installer again. At that time I also contacted Goodman and spoke to a manager. Days later the installer called and stated they were shipping another part and this should fix the problem. Heard nothing for a week or so so contacted the installer again. This has been going on now for almost a year. To this day the unit is not working properly. I would never recommend Goodman to anyone.

I purchased both a Goodman Central AC Unit and a Goodman Furnace in 2013. I had become disabled around that time and this was my last big purchase. I had hoped that in buying 2 new units that I wouldn't have problems with them and that they'd be reliable for years to come. That was not the case. When I went to start up the AC at the beginning of the 2nd year, it wasn't working. The repairman had to replace the coil. Now, going into the 5th year, my furnace is not working. The repairman came out and said it needed a part that had to be ordered. He said the error code on the panel read: "Low fire pressure switch open."
Since it was Friday afternoon when the repairman came out, the part wouldn't be delivered until late Monday (or early Tuesday) and so therefore Tuesday would be the earliest it could be repaired. This left me without heat for almost 6 days in 30-degree weather with snow on the ground. It's freezing in this house. I have severe arthritis and nerve damage which is worse in the cold. I've had to increase my pain medication and I'm stuck sitting under a heated blanket.
I made this purchase because I didn't want to have to worry about my old system breaking down while I was out of work with limited funds and as it turned out, my 20-year-old system was more reliable. I'm really disgusted with this company. Both their AC units and furnaces are junk. I spent thousands thinking I was making a good investment for my home and it's one of the worst purchases I've ever made.

Second Unit: 2nd year, capacitor failed. 3rd year, same capacitor failed. 4th year, outside unit fan failed. Had a couple of other smaller issues, too.
Also purchased 10 year parts/labor warranty with Goodman. Apparently not. Even though I have an invoice that states what I purchased, Goodman will not recognize the labor warranty. In July of 2012 I purchased a Goodman System for my Condominium in Ossining New York. I was a little skeptical because I had never heard of Goodman but was assured it was made by Amana and was a good, reliable brand and somewhat less expensive than the "name" brands. I was told by the company that installed it that it had a good warranty... 10 years in fact so not to worry. I had routine maintenance done on schedule and in April of 2018 began having trouble with the A.C. Serviceman repaired and recommended a new thermostat system which I had done. Three months later the system failed again. Noticed some "ice" buildup on copper pipes around unit and some water on the floor. Serviceman replaced filter and cleaned outside condenser.
One month later FAILED again and now told by repair service the condenser coil is no good. He said, "Don't worry. It's covered under warranty..." Until three hours later when Goodman told him the unit was not registered and they would not honor the warranty. Now I have the bill of sale with all documents and serial numbers yet they are telling me that I had to send in the postcard to have it registered. It's a damn 7000 unit... Like a car. I said... "You don't send in postcards for cars do you?" I went round and round with Goodman NON CUSTOMER SERVICE and decided to try to reach a supervisor. THEY KEPT TELLING ME THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE. Well I called the corporate office and asked to be connected to the CEO a Mr. Ebisu's secretary. Lo and behold I was connected to a woman named K.D. ** (Write that down folks. K.D. ** is the secretary to the CEO.)
I started to explain my issue and she was trying to put me back in touch with customer service... But I convinced her to listen to the whole story (the same complaints that many of you have mentioned in these reviews) after a good 10 minutes she assured me that the head of Consumer Complaints a Mr. Preston ** would be working on my case and that she was sure he would help in the matter. She even went so far as to tell me that she was instructing him to get back to me within 2 hours with a resolution. Well... he called back and was ABSOLUTELY NO HELP AT ALL. In fact he said to me... "You were never supposed to get put through to Ms. ** office." I was and I intend to make sure that both of their names are out in public so that people will know who they are and how little they care about customer service.
Tomorrow, I am having a new unit installed at a discount price from TRANE which is a REAL COMPANY that backs its products. My service company was so mad at Goodman that they are eating the labor cost to install the new system. They discounted the price by 2600 DOLLARS and a 4500 price tag is now down to under 1700 which is less than the part that Goodman wanted to send me. STAY AWAY FROM GOODMAN... That should have been enough to send me running to the builder to exchange the units out with another brand but I thought it was mostly the repair guy 'cause he was saying those are not very good units blah blah blah so I just chalked it up to him being a lazy money hungry dude but looks like now he was right 'cause now the other unit was blowing hot air this week and a trusted ac repairman came and told me the thing has a leak causing the Freon to disappear.
I can’t recall the name of the part because I am at work right now and don’t have my receipt here with me. But whatever the case may be it is TOO early for anything to be broken or worn out as I have only been in the home 3 yrs!!! This is ridiculous. Bought Goodman. Never again. 2 burnt blower motors and now a defective evaporator coil and on top of that my installer said it’s all warrantied through Goodman for 10 years but now Goodman says they will not warranty the units for 10 years; only 5 because a form was not filed within 90 days from install. This is bull. It’s because they are in a class action lawsuit about having lot and lots of defective coils and so they're trying to get out of covering their 10 year warranty on a technicality and because they know their stuff will only last for 5 year and now turning the blame on homeowners for their installing company negligence in not filing their paperwork timely by saying, "Oh that’s the homeowners' responsibility to file the warranty paperwork and if they don’t we will penalize them for our defective products."
Let’s face it. Paperwork or not it should not affect the warranty. If their stuff was built right from the beginning and they felt a 10 year warranty was proper then filing a form should not matter. It does not change the MFG date or the install date or the way they make their products. They have not heard the last from me. This is just a start.
Buy Trane not Goodman and save your self lots of headaches. Dealing with Goodman’s customers service is a joke just a headache. I’m not asking for labor charges or the 10 lbs of Freon that was lost due to their defective coils just to stand behind their 10 year policy and provide the parts to replace their known bad inferior parts for the 10 year period they promised. If you're looking for HVAC work do your homework. Check out the net for all the people having issues with Goodman then buy something else more reliable like American Standard or Trane. I wish I did.

I selected a Goodman 5-ton heat pump unit with a variable speed fan system in 2011 for a large insulated shop that I own. It was installed by a licensed installer that also is a dealer for Goodman and also does commercial installations for McDonald's, Burger King, etc. 3.5 years later in 2015, the evaporator coils failed. It was a leak deep inside the coils. Pure manufacturing defect. Goodman warrantied the coils, but of course not the $800 in installation and refrigerant costs. Roll forward 3.5 more years and the evaporator coils failed again. Goodman won't replace them, even though it is CLEARLY a manufacturing defect, because replacement coils only have a 1-year warranty. Hmmm. I wonder why that is? Their warranty speaks volumes on what they think of the quality of their product. Customer support tried to help me, but their hands were tied.
They did try to blame the installer and that it "could have been" an improper installation issue. Again, the leak is deep inside the coil array. It seems that the coils are manufactured in such a way that they are rubbing on each other inside the array. Goodman won't admit it, but they know they have an issue when they only offer a 1-year warranty on the replacement coils. That being said, I'm driving into Austin today to pick up a new set of replacement coils for $700. I'll be forking over another $500+ for installation and refrigerant. If they fail again, I will happily pay whatever it takes to completely replace the Goodman. I own 7 other properties with different brand heat-pump HVAC systems.
The American Standard on my home (11 years old) and the Bryant (5 years old) on a rental house have performed flawlessly. I have to absorb the cost to replace freon, service call and labor to replace coil out of even though I have a warranty to go with the unit. It is a $1200 repair bill for a product under warranty. When I spoke with Kristin from Goodman she informed me that Goodman can't help because they only cover the parts and the reason they only cover the parts is because they don't install any of the units. It is now June of 2018 and the six months old coil is leaking AGAIN! It will cost around 800 dollars to fix AGAIN! Since both coils failed and caused the air handler to freeze up, I now have water damage in the air handler cabinet. Mold is now growing and had to be removed. The air handler cabinet will have to be replaced as well since the insulation is now damaged. With this new repair, I will be $2,000 dollars in the hole on a 2 year old system.
Goodman seems like they have poor quality control for their systems and refuse to help. I called the manufacturer and they blame the installation company and to contact the distributor about any complaints. Since the parts keep failing, I would say it's the manufacturers fault, not an installation company or distributor. They also have poor customer service. The person I called was Debbie. She was very rude and not helpful at all. She seemed like she didn't want to hear my complaint and not help me. She told us to call the distributor and that was it.
With poor quality control and poor customer service, I would have to say this is, by far the worst company I have had to deal with and never will again. I can get no help. There is no logical reason for the major items in a brand new unit purchased in 2013 have so many bad parts. Customer service is HORRIBLE, no help at all. Replaced my outside AC unit in 2014. Original unit lasted 15 years. Inside unit still going at 20 years with regular cleaning. Regular AC guy, John **, recommended a Goodman outside unit. In 2016 compressor leaks and John replaces it under warranty charging me labor at $75 per hour for 14 hours to pick up and install (ripoff). In 2017, the warranted replacement compressor is leaking. Replaced under warranty and same install cost. I had to use John as he had purchased the unit and could only do the warranty. Never again will I fall into this trap. The outside unit has now cost me $4500. I could have replaced the whole system with a reliable system for that expense, which I have to do now in 2018.
So after just shy of 4 years a 4 ton a/c and heating outside unit needed service and Freon added two times (2016 and 2017). The tech I called out today showed me oil leaking from the condenser too. The freon was gone. At least with a whole new unit I will switch from R22 to R14 freon. So no more C & J Repairs and Services Inc to service my AC and never again a Goodman AC unit.

After only 2 years, the 3 ton a/c and heating unit needed service and Freon added. Now, after only 10 months, the unit once again is not cooling. The initial diagnosis was that it needed more freon, not it needs a new condenser. I will never, ever buy another Goodman and if you are smart, neither should you. A $4000 unit should at least give you carefree service for 5 years more. I am going to contact Goodman and see what they have to offer.

I purchased a Goodman ductless mini split heat pump. It was installed by a professional installer. The compressor stopped working after about 5 years and 2 months. Assuming the unit had a 10 year warranty, I contacted the company. Upon doing so, the customer seemed to enjoy telling me that the unit only had a 5 year warranty. I then attempted to contact a company to repair the unit, and found it difficult to find a company that worked on the Goodman brand. I was advised that Goodman was not a good unit and it would be less expensive to replace it with a Mitsubishi unit, which I intend to do. I will never do business with Goodman again.

I got my 3 ton 14 seer heat pump unit 2010. Had to have leak repair in 2012 and refill gas. Have had to add gas every year since. I was told by two technicians I had a leak in my coil. They have been unable to find a coil. Now my compressor is shot. They can find a compressor but not coil. I still have two years left on warranty but can't get coil.

When this unit Goodman heat pump model GPH144841AC was about one year old it developed a major leak causing all the refrigerant to escape. It cost $500 to have someone repair the faulty factory solder joint and recharge it. Since I installed the unit myself Goodman will not honor any warranty. It is a self contained unit that I did not even open up so there was no way I could have damaged the inside of the unit. About two years later the main power relay failed and I had to replace it.
This past Spring, 2017, I found it low on refrigerant and I added about 3 pounds and it worked correctly up until a few days ago even cycling off during some 28 degree weather (so it had refrigerant then). Yesterday I noticed it was running on emergency heat and checked it this morning. Not a pound of pressure. Apparently the small leak became a big leak. Again since it is a self contained unit it must be a factory fault. I'm hoping it is something that can be easily fixed, but I'm going to start saving for a replacement and it sure will not be a Goodman unit. They are junk.

I had a gas leak the first season (2011). I went without heat for one month as the Gas Company kept turning off my Goodman unit. Dayton Services tech came out 4 times but could find nothing. A neighbor found the leak and they came out and fixed it as I had taken a picture of the leak. Next season the Amana a/c went out and Freon put in. Skipped a season and next year the a/c went out again and capacitor and freon added. Skipped a season and same thing again--Freon and capacitor. I am 83 and didn't want to go through the heat and bought a window unit in anticipation of next breakdown in summer 2018. I called and wrote Goodman (in Houston) along with pages of documentation. No response. Mainly sarcasm. No response from Dayton. Paid $5,000 for the unit. I'm supposed to have 10-year warranty and service!

I bought a new Goodman AC unit 8½ years ago. I was smart to buy the 10-year labor & parts extended warranty at that time for just $198, as the coil failed this past summer, and my contractor indicated it would have cost me $3500 to fix. While I was thankful I had this extended warranty, and that Goodman honored this warranty, the coil should NOT have failed after just 8½ years. Would I buy again or recommend a Goodman? Not a chance.

First off I want to say that customer service is not up to par, they are rude and treat people as if they don’t care what you have to say. I was talked down to as if I’m ignorant when trying to explain that a defect in the quality and build of the unit isn’t good and that a unit less than 2 years old should not be having $700 plus work done on it due to a manufacturing issue and missed quality checks. This company is horrible and do not care how they treat customers not the quality of their product. Therefore this will be the last product I own and I would stray far away from this brand and company.

Goodman 16 SEER installed November 2010, 3 years later lower TXV goes out, and I was informed that installer did not file warranty papers so no warranty. $800 repair then 6 months later upper TXV goes out another $800. Now 7 years later compressor goes out. $2000. Had I bought an American Standard or Trane I know I would not have this problem. Learn from what you read here. DO NOT BUY GOODMAN.

Some gangster AC guy installed a Goodman ac unit outside my house 2 years ago. Already then he did not seem to know what he was doing because the coils were freezing up inside the house shortly after installation and he had to come back 3 times. He charged us $3000. We are not experts and noticed the unit he installed has the worst energy efficiency by far. Now two years later, it is not working and Freon is leaking out of the coils. I called him and he argued with me that "he has been in business for 30 years and I don't know about technical details". Needless to say, he is trying to get rid of me and my complaints because he spent the $3000 a long time ago. Another ac guy told me I need a totally new unit outside AND inside because the two are not compatible. Great! Everyone is just trying to fill their bank accounts. He told me it would cost me $900 if I wanted him to recharge the Freon. Please help. I am freezing!!!

After paying $3400 for the new ac this is a rip off. I AM BEGGING YOU DO NOT BUY A GOODMAN. THEY ARE PURE JUNK.

I have 2 Goodman AC units for my house and both were installed 5 years ago when the house was new. 2 weeks ago my unit stopped cooling and I had a tech come to check it out. Found a Freon leak in the evaporator coil. He said those coils are on backorder and we could try to service it but it may rapidly leak down again. I decided to try that since the coil is on backorder which cost me 580 bucks.
One week later the unit stops cooling because all the Freon leaked out again. I called a different AC company to send out a tech to verify where the leak is coming from and he confirmed the evaporator coil is the problem. I still have warranty but it is going to be 4 to 6 weeks to get the coil from Goodman. Yep, 4 to six weeks of no AC on my 2nd level because the part is back ordered. Are so many of these coils failing that they can't manufacture repair parts fast enough to keep up with the demand? It would seem so.
Now keep in mind that when the new coil comes in FOUR TO SIX WEEKS that I will have to pay to charge it with Freon at a cost of about 500 dollars. The unit is covered under warranty against manufacturing defects... the Freon leaked out because of a manufacturing defect so a reasonable person would think the Freon would be covered under the warranty repair. Nope. Since new I have had to replace 2 capacitors, a contractor relay, and a blower motor so this coil issue is not the first troubles I have had. As I am sitting in Florida with a broken AC and 4 to 6 weeks on getting it fixed, I can say with certainty that I will not ever buy a Goodman product again.

3-ton package unit, 16 SEER - Shortly after the unit was installed, we noticed water draining on our wooden deck. The unit was not placed on our deck, but it butted up against it. This was in June that it was installed. It is Nov. 9, 2017, and it is still drenching our wooden deck when the air conditioning is on. The company has tried everything they know to do, and they have spent hours and hours and hours here with many calls, 12 different techs.
The guy yesterday and another tech said the unit is a poor design. The insulation was removed and was dripping water like a pitcher of water pouring out. We have condensation on top of the unit and rusting in one corner. We have not paid any money for all the hours and things they have tried. Next they are going to lift the unit and put in a drain pan. My husband is concerned that the water is still going to be a problem, and with winter coming, we will not be using the AC until spring to see if it is fixed. Goodman has been no help. NEVER gonna buy a Goodman product ever again!

I purchased a 16 seer Variable speed 2 stage 3 ton heat pump with a AVPTC air handler. The unit was purchased and installed on 1/13/2012. Almost immediately the problems started. Goodman replaced the variable speed motor in the air handler along with the circuit board. I then started having problems with the heat pump in the winter months kicking out on the high head pressure limit.
After many calls to Goodman, they sent a factory Rep from Iowa along with a rep. from Lute Supply where the unit was purchased. The rep found a short in the high pressure limit, a Hard start was added to the heat pump and the unit worked fine for about 6 months. At this point I have $750.00 invested in service calls. The unit failed again in August 2016. Service was called again and the run capacitor was replaced. Service call $313.00. The unit ran fine until 10/25/17 when the heat pump stopped. Service was again called and I was told the unit is leaking and coil needs replaced. I have 13 service calls on this unit at a cost of $1800.00. The unit is coming out, I would never recommend Goodman products.

Would give 0 stars if it was an option. Unit was one year and one day old when 3 parts needed replaced. Goodman only covered one part. We have regular 6 month maintenance on the unit. Bottom line, it cost us $327.00 to get a brand new unit fixed. We asked in good faith that Goodman would work with us on this but rec'd a letter stating they were unable to meet our request. We were referred to Homeowner Support, which we reached out to twice and never rec'd a response. Not a company that I would recommend to anyone or their products.

Just purchased a new Goodman 5-ton 16 SEER Air Conditioner September 2017. So far I'm happy with the unit except for the annoying loud "Tinny rattling & grunting" noise coming from the compressor. Had my AC contractor come back within the first week. He stated this is normal and the noise is coming from the refrigerant line coupling/caps. He put some electrical tape on the caps and that reduced the noise level a few degrees.
Well, his great "Bubba" fix lasted about 3 days then the louder noise came back again. I called the Contractor back out and said, "I just paid your company good money for this new Goodman and the noise level is not acceptable." He proceeded to fiddle around with it and couldn't seem to find where the "tinny" rattling sound was coming from. I suggested he might try the cheap sheet metal panels where the refrigerant lines are and put a sound dampener on them.
He didn't have anything in his truck so loaned him a small roll of felt insulation. He cut a few pieces and inserted them where the panels overlap and surprise, surprise, the Tinny rattling noise disappeared. The fan is quiet but the compressor motor still has a grunting noise which it did not have the day of installation. The contractor said this is normal too. I'm going to check around my neighborhood to see if there are any other Goodmans to see if they have a similar noise.

I am joining a long list of dissatisfied Goodman a/c unit customers. My wife and I purchased our home in 2012 with Goodman units installed. Almost immediately after moving into my new home one of the units experienced problems cooling one of the floors of my home. It took 5 service repair visits to uncover a defect in the unit which ultimately was repaired. Fast forward 5 years, around the time the warranty ended and we began experiencing problems with one of the other units. We were advised that the "coil" inside the unit had gone bad and had to be replaced. I contacted Goodman and they advised that even though it had only been a few months since my 5 year warranty expired, they would not replace the coil. Too bad, tough luck. I would implore anyone reading this to not purchase Goodman products or have them installed in newly constructed home.
