Bought new A/C unit in 2016, as of date I have spent more money repairing the unit than I did purchasing it. I Have replace the Freon 3 times, condenser coil, motor and now my evaporator coil needs replacing and more Freon again. I'm suppose to buy a labor contract to fix a BRAND NEW UNIT!!! REALLY???

The house I moved into had a Goodman AC installed. Fast forward to when I move in and the compressor blows. I called Goodman to ask about warranty information since the unit did not look very old. I was told that my unit was out of the warranty period and I would not get any help from Goodman unless I was able to locate information on when the unit was installed. After significant research from the previous owners and the owners before them, I was unable to locate any documentation.
I was forced to pay over $4,000 to replace my AC. I then went onto Goodman's website and left a negative review of the company. They deleted my review and someone from customer service got in touch with me. I told him all the facts of what happened and he told me "there is nothing we can do for you." He had a poor attitude and refused to offer any kind of assistance. In a nutshell he was telling me "To bad." I asked for his phone number and provided mine but he refused to call or give me his number. I eventually called the general customer service number, where I was also told by a seemingly incompetent employee that "there is nothing we can do for you."
So after being told incorrect information by a Goodman employee, 2 more employees refused to lift a finger to attempt to remedy my situation. They were completely indifferent to my situation and offered absolutely no assistance. I am now $4,000 poorer, but I will make every attempt to tell whoever will listen how awful Goodman products are and how incompetent and apathetic Goodman customer service employees are. I am extremely disappointed in Goodman's lack of customer service. I don't understand how a company who produces inferior products and then refuses to assist customers can stay in business. To anyone who might be interested, I have copies of the emails I sent and received with Goodman customer service.

Had this unit installed in August of 2012. Immediate problems the following day with a "broken wire" that made a horrendous noise. In May 2017, it stops working. Repairman says it needs freon. July stops working again. Repairman says there must be a leak and it's impossible to find them so he replaced the coil. Today, September 2, stops working again. Will be getting a new AC unit but you can bet it will NOT be a piece of junk Amana/mfg. by Goodman. Myself, I believe a AC unit should last more than five years, esp. when it doesn't run year round.

We purchased (2) 25 Ton Daikin HVAC Units. Goodman Distributors in Philadelphia sold them to our contractor / we bought them from the contractor. Both units arrived on July 11, 2017. 1 of the units worked for a few days. It is now over 40 days and still no sign of getting replacement parts for the unit. The management at Goodman Distributors is absolutely horrible. I cannot express how angry I am at the lack of customer service & no care or desire to fix the unit.
Goodman is a company owned by Daikin (manufacturer). They actually told me it's the contractor's problem - not theirs. Daikin built the unit / Goodman sold the unit - they then wash their hands off it - let me be clear - it work for only a few DAYS! $15,000 for 1 unit. I was instructed to call Customer Care - again - said "too bad nothing they can do - call the contractor." This company and the mother company are Dirty People. I made the mistake of agreeing to purchase Daikin units. Be careful if you decide to go with a Goodman Brand - they do not stand behind their equipment. In the event of a bad part (this happens) they will make your life miserable. What they should do is say "we are sorry - we will get this resolved immediately." 40+ days and counting - you be the judge!

I bought my house in 2014 in South Florida. The house was brand new construction and very well built. It has all impact windows and doors, along with plenty of insulation. The biggest mistake however was that the builder installed a "GOODMAN" manufacturing HVAC system. The system is sized well within Florida code and worked fine the first year. However, the second year things quickly went downhill during the summer of 2016 when the condenser motor went out in the unit - only to be followed by the coils leaking 4 months later. As of this summer 2017 the unit has gone out again and was completely out for 2 WEEKS!!! I set the unit to 74 and it runs all day even though the house is 85 degrees inside.
I have had 4 different HVAC companies come out and try to diagnose my problem. I have had 7 techs from 4 different companies completely disassemble my unit trying to find the problem. They have checked all the ducting and checked my home's structure for leaks, to no avail. All 4 companies have told me that they believe that the unit is defective and ALL has NOTHING positive to say about the company and all these companies refuse to even do business with GOODMAN (for obvious reasons). That Goodman is one of the cheapest units you can buy and has the most problems! They all recommended that I "Bite the Bullet" and replace the 3 year old unit, after I have dumped $1400 into it.
When I contacted Goodman Manufacturing, an "American made Company out of TEXAS." I was told by a supervisor after explaining my situation, that there was nothing they could do to help me out, despite there being a 10 year warranty on the unit. The incompetent employee I spoke to from GOODMAN told me that my unit was fine and didn't see a reason for them to have to replace it. For a company's motto to be, "At Goodman we believe in American Dependability. Units are designed, engineered and assembled in the U.S.A." to tell a customer that there's nothing you can do is appalling. Goodman Units are nothing more than the lowest quality TRASH - Made from defective parts in China and Mexico, shipped to the U.S and then assembled by migrate workers. Their whole American Made motto is **.
Goodman Manufacturing and its management are no better than "All Talk No Action Politicians!" I hope Trump builds that WALL and taxes your defective parts coming into the U.S so much you go bankrupt!!! It is safe to say that I have thrown out my garbage known as Goodman and Switched to a much more dependable A/C unit.
As for anyone thinking about buying a Goodman A/C unit don't!!! For anyone thinking about replacing their existing unit or buying a house with a Goodman A/C be warned!!! It will cause you so much money, stress and headache when it goes out within 3 years. You will be HIT IN THE FACE with thousands of dollars in repair bills, only to dish out another several thousand dollars to replace it with another unit. I am so entirely dissatisfied with Goodman, their "product" as well as their employees. I won't even sell my old unit to anyone because I don't want them going through what I had to, down here during a HOT South Florida Summer. P.S.A.!!! To anyone purchasing a new HVAC unit. Spend the extra money upfront and buy something that will last you at least 10 years. DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM GOODMAN MANUFACTURING OR YOU WILL EAT THESE WORDS, THAT I CAN PROMISE YOU!

Lennox is leading the industry but Goodman is just as good, but is a simpler machine. The problem is Goodman used to have less restrictions on who they deal to. Because of this, non-professionals have bought Goodman and installed them incorrectly. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO HOW IT'S INSTALLED!!! Pay the extra $$$ to go with a reputable company!!!

After I completed an earlier review, a "Goodman" supervisor contacted me by phone. We spoke, and after explaining the issue and my thoughts, the supervisor said she would get back me on extending the warranty on my new unit. A couple of hours later I received an email from the supervisor, with an attached copy of the corrected and updated warranty coverage. Fantastic customer response after what I believe was a fair complaint issue.
Original Review: July 24, 2017
I moved into my new home in May 2017, and believed I had 90 days to register my new Heat-pump/AC unit for an extended free warranty. While looking for the paperwork, I had learned the time was 60 days, not 90. During a very complicated move, the registration paperwork for all warrantied items in the home was lost/misplaced. On finding the warranty/registration, I attempted to call "Goodman" (I hope the name "Goodman" does not imply anything positive) about 5 times, and on each occasion I was met with a voice message the business is "Closed for the 4th of July", and would be open the 5th.
This was the point at which time I saw I had 60 days, not 90 days to register. On the "Goodman" warranty letter, there is nothing stating hours, and or time zone of the customer service office. I learned they are in Texas, which is a different time zone from Arizona. On writing to Goodman to activate the extended warranty I included a written reason for the late registration.
On the weekend of 072117 I received a response from "Goodman", I believe automated, telling me the item was registered, but the extended warranty was not active. I next called "Goodman." I then had 2 phone conversations with employees of "Goodman" to address the issue, to include an explanation for my delay, and I asked they waive the 2 or 3 day late application.
One of the high quality employees from "Goodman", in telling why she would not address the issue said, "You had ample time." I remained polite and asked to speak to a supervisor. The 2nd employee/supervisor, "Laquicia" was the same in her tone, and was also unwilling to listen to my request to waive my late registration. I explained the reasoning again, and suggested possible examples to her of lost papers due to fire, and or significant issue such as death, as to why it could be possible to validate my extended warranty. But in her flippant response she said, "I have dealt with them all, and there are no exceptions."
I had noted to the employee "This is a new home, and the unit is new." I explained to her there are viable exceptions to rules, and also that it might just be good business to waive the rule. But she was not willing to address the notion of waiving the 2 or 3 day tardiness of my app. I also explained again I had tried to call the number listed on the warranty and website, but all I got was a recording from their system telling me they were closed "July 4th". Neither employee appeared to understand their system was not updated, and it did not provided me an alternative to address my issue to a live person.
Seeing I was getting little flexibility from the "Supervisor", I asked to speak with her Supervisor. Before she transferred me to her supervisor "Christine's", I was told, "She's not going to be able to help you either." So of course, Christine let her phone go to message, so I left my details for a callback. Nice tone, and not threatening.
I don't need repairs, it’s a brand new unit on a brand new house. My developer "Meritage Homes" and unit installer, "Chas **" will be contacted, and they will be advised of the inflexible and very poor service from Goodman. I will also suggest an A/C supplier change, and/or address the business skills of Goodman call takers, and their ability to address common sense and reasonable requests in a professional manner. I can handle "No", but try a little Honey in your sales pitch.
My point here is this; I know the company has rules, and if the house was an old home with an old unit, I could see their trepidation, but as I was only 2 or 3 days outside of the extended warranty with a brand new unit, I would think from a customer service/business issue, they would be understanding and cover my unit. I have run into many stories over the years where good companies waive a simple issue such as this, and the "Goodwill" and "Good word" that come from the experience of the customer, goes a long way toward a good business reputation.

I had an Amana 2 ton hvac gas pack for 18 years, never had a problem, never cleaned, never serviced. The unit had to be replaced in 2006 and was a problem from day one! The unit would not cool like the old one, the unit was supposed the same as I had before. I spent $3,900.00 in repairs with everything in the unit being replaced, including the compressor. Goodman did not offer any help! They even called one service technician and said I wasn't happy with him, when the fact of the matter was he could not figure out what was wrong!
The unit would run continually all day long with the thermostat on 73 and the outside temp was 83 degrees! I have finally found that the original compressor was a 19000 BTU's and the sensible BTU's rating was rated at 18000, which several HVAC techs said that was a 1/2 ton difference and would not work! I just recently replaced with a Coleman and will not buy Goodman ever again!!! The last tech found the blower wheel was wobbly because of insulation, but said even replacing it would not solve the issue!

I built a new house in 2012-2013. 3 separate Daikin commercial grade split units were installed. The house was completed in August of 2013 when I moved in. I noticed, in February of 2014 the unit wasn't heating the rooms on 1 of the unit's zones. I called the installer and spent over $900 to fix it, the company refilled the freon which was empty and left. 6 months later in August, unit's not working again. Long story short second repair company after two three to four visits finally identify the problem with a Daikin tech rep to be the condenser coil in the outdoor unit and evaporator coil in one of the handling units.
I've spent now $2500 to identify the problem. Daikin will not cover parts citing 1 year warranty on all but compressor for a unit that didn't even have normal residential wear and tear. Parts are $1500. I am completely dissatisfied with the lack of quality and desire to stand behind the product they manufacture here in the States for Daikin. I will never recommend or purchase another product from this company.

I have read so many bad reviews and all I can say is I have been installing Goodman units since 2008 and have yet to have one fail. I would put a Goodman up against any brand. Dollar for dollar and dependability you can't beat it. I have had 2 units where ants made a home in the contactor, but that's the only times I have had to replace any, and I mean any part on a Goodman unit. Goodman also has a solid alum. Evap. Coil, nothing to rust out like other brands have a MILD steel end plates that after 10-15 years of service with it being wet from condensation will rust and cause the copper loops to have pinhole leaks that is impossible to fix.
Goodman, Amana, Daikin are all the same company and is the largest HVAC company in the entire world. They didn't get that way from building bad and undependable equipment. They build good quality equipment, maybe it's the installer, and not the equipment, because as I have said in the last 9 years of steadily installing Goodman, not one has failed.

All in I will spend more than $4,000 in repairs on a unit that cost me $6,800 to install! Goodman would not help. I purchased the "extended warranty" through our local One Hour Heating and Air (now out of business). This covered a total replacement installation in 2009 of: a Furnace/Coil downstairs; heat pump/air handler unit upstairs; two outdoor units. Evaporator coil sprung a leak last week and I checked my warranty online and on the phone w/ Goodman and they confirmed my coverage for parts and labor. Called one of their authorized "Asure" techs and he came out and told me the coil wasn't covered.
Everything (all serial numbers for furnace, heat pump/air handler, two outdoor units) was covered and registered EXCEPT, they had "no record" of the serial number for the coil. They all start with similar #s (0905, 1001) yet that one serial number for the coil isn't among what they have. I'm beyond angry, especially after reading that that's the part that may have been defective upon install!! *sigh* They said the only recourse I had was to present them with a RECEIPT from 2009 showing that coil on there! After confirming the furnace was covered online, I didn't even consider keeping the receipt. Lesson learned there, I suppose. I will be calling them back today and try and dig a bit deeper. This is ridiculous.

I purchased a Goodman heat pump GPH1360H41BC (sn: 1208655671) in 2012 from a local dealer by my AC tech. It worked ok at first except for low freon. This year I began having problems. First a capacitor, then the fan motor. A month later I was told the coil had a leak and tech replaced 5 lbs freon at $30/lb plus labor. I was quoted 11 lbs of freon at $30/lb plus 3 hrs labor for a total of about $900 for a new coil. Coil was under warranty but labor and freon isn't. Those are the biggest cost on the problem. Why should we have to pay for freon that escaped as a result of a faulty coil?
A week later the new coil arrived and will be installed tomorrow. Now I find out there are many problems with Goodman products. I am a widow on social security and cannot afford costly repair bills. My tech tells me they do not install these anymore. I'm also afraid that my son who purchased one a year or so ago will also start having problems. Made in China products are no good. People buy Amana thinking that it has the best warranty (10 year for units, lifetime for compressors) on the market. But like so many others, our home builders (in 2009) didn't give us any registration papers, or bother to register the product themselves... So the warranty is irrelevant after just 5 years. I thought this was an illegal practice, to require registration for promised warranty coverage, but turns out it's only illegal in California. Our AC unit failed promptly after first 5-year period expired, and the repairs have been costly. Never going to buy Amana/Goodman again, not unless they change this predatory warranty policy. Also the children got sick and the parents got headaches and had them for 3 days. Goodman said they couldn't give us a new heater and the homeowner no longer wants this furnace in their home. They do not want no tech from Goodman at their home. They want to be reimbursed. The Manager Michael ** was the most unsympathetic person I dealt with in my life. It's been almost two weeks and already I'm very disappointed in this unit. Yes it may be a little bit quieter but it definitely does not get as warm as my York did. The funny thing is that they are both the same size.
I'm an engineer so I took my infrared thermal gun along with my Fluke Thermometer to record over a two day period what the min., avg.,and max. temps coming out the ducts were. This past weekend the outside air temp was around 42-45 deg. F.. This isn't all that cold outside but needless to say that having my thermostat left on 73 all weekend left for some warm to even bitter air temps inside the house. My house is basically a brand new house with all new dry walls and insulation.
After recording the temps, the lowest air temp the hvac pumped out was 64.8, the average was 78.6, and finally the max. temp was 96.8. Only 96.8? That is ridiculous for it being only 42 degrees outside. My 13 year old York heat pump unit would put out at least 110-115 max in that weather. Needless to say I will never buy a Goodman again after losing all the money that I have. I'm scared to see how cold it's going to be in this house when it is 0-5 degrees and snowing outside. I'm more than likely going to have to bite the bullet on this one and buy a whole new unit from York, Trane, or even a Lennox.

Let me start out by saying I'm a HVAC business owner for 24 years and I will no longer be installing Goodman equipment. The reason is that I've needed technical help on a few jobs in the last month and the Tech Desk was the worse I've dealt with out of any manufacturer. They were short, didn't give me many things to try and after I told them what I've already tried, they were like "I don't know". I kept asking them what other things I can try and they just repeated themselves giving me no new things to try. I've always had great help with other Tech help with other brands and they always helped me figure it out. But Goodman Tech help was worthless the 4 times I dealt with them. They all must really hate their job and take it out on the Service people that call in.
I've been installing Goodman on and off since it was Janitrol. They were helpful and nice years ago. I haven't had to call in for Tech help in years and man have they changed. The most arrogant, rudest ** I've ever talked to. They all need to be fired and hire new Techs and retrain them. Otherwise this company will fall within 5 years the path they are on. I see many other 1 star reviews on here which means this company's Customer Service sucks. Wake up Goodman and if you can't see all these negative reviews, you people in corporate are the dumbest people on earth and you deserve to fail. If I owned a huge company such as Goodman and I see all these negative reviews, I would do undercover calls and find out who all the filth and garbage is within the company and fire them. A new training regimen must be enacted immediately for customer service. New management must be put in place. Out with the old and in with the new.

After several years the coil developed a very small leak and had to be replaced. I tried to get Goodman to replace it, but they told me that I did not register it correctly and essentially told me to **. After some quick research, I found out there is a class action suit against Goodman for knowingly selling coils with a defective design. Many customers have been stuck with these faulty coils. STAY AWAY FROM ANY PRODUCT GOODMAN SELLS. On the Goodman website it says IN LARGE TYPE "A name you can trust." Do not believe it. I purchased this unit from a local contractor and have had 3 problems with it since installation. I had installer fix the first issue which he told me they would not charge me for. Unit was installed horizontally in attic and installers didn't know that when unit is installed this way condensation builds up in tube which won't allow heat to start up.
Their employees are totally incompetent since they never glued PVC vent and exhaust piping through roof. Primed but never glued. Stick a piece of pipe in and that's done. Crooked coming out the roof, which I had to have repaired with the unglued pieces of pipe. I'm afraid to check and see if they at least glued the pipe that holds condensation as that will eventually leak in time if that was also improperly installed. Now I had to have flame sensor replaced and unit is only 3 years old. Goodbye to Mensers Heating and Cooling and Goodman products.

We had a new Goodman AC installed in 2014. The warranty covers parts only after one year. The unit developed a refrigerant leak on a factory joint right at the equalizing tube. All the refrigerant leaked out. It cost over $600 to repair the leak (labor) and replace the refrigerant. Goodman does not feel they are responsible for any of this cost because it is not a part replacement. I feel that since their part failure caused the loss of the refrigerant, they should reimburse me for same. Needless to say I would never buy another Goodman.

I purchased my home in 2006. Since 2007 I have been having an issue with the unit not working properly. Every year there was something wrong, but because I was not home often I was not able to always request a service technician. As a first time homeowner, I feel I was taken advantage of by the repair company MARK-AIR, INC, because they never submitted for warranty repair service and never advised me to look into my warranty for the issues I was having, such as the Compressor Leak I had in 2009-2010. Then the fan/motor went on the unit and MARK-AIR, INC still didn't submit for warranty repair. Instead they charged me and it took me 3 years to get the fan replaced. During this time and to date I still do not have heat or A/C!
Then MARK-AIR tells me that I am out of my warranty. I called Goodman and the lady told me to contact Consumer Affairs because Goodman could not help me. I am not just unhappy, I am disgusted with the process and the thieves. This unit was a problem from the beginning and instead of rectifying the problem, they left me with it and now I cannot get help from Goodman. Why install a broken unit and not honor the warranty? Why am I about to go into another winter with no heat? I want a resolution to this matter and for someone to contact me. I need a compressor and I am not paying $1000 for something that was broken during the warranty period.
I thought MARK-AIR would look out for the customer and use the warranty option, but they chose to dig into my empty pockets! I have spent over $2000 in repairs and excessive heat/cooling bills because the unit is faulty, not fair to the customer. The unit is garbage!! It always has a leak. It really broke after the service technician did a pressure test. Model #: CPRT-30; S/N: 0603056767, Make: GMC.

Another service call and they had to replace the compressor and defrost control unit. At least they were under warranty, but I had to pay for service call and freon. That's not cheap either. On July 8 warm air came thru vents. Serviceman had to add more freon and changed the schraders. More money. This lasted a week and back to warm air again. Another call another hole in coil and more freon. This lasted a month so now it's Aug. 2016 and I'm sitting here in my house with temp of 95 and outside temp of 98. Our air conditioner is a Goodman/Amana and it is less than three years old and it is over 90 degrees in our home and I cannot get ahold of the installer. I had to call a different 24 hour company because it is a Friday night and it cost $150.00 for him to tell me that the Compressor is completely fried. It blew out the wiring harness and was burned up. He could smell the burning wiring as soon as he approached the unit and pulled the breaker! This could have burned our house down the tech said.
Now the question will be, why did this burn up?? From all of the postings and class action lawsuits I have read (too numerous to even believe), I believe that the coil must be leaking. My furnace is also the same age and is sitting in a lot of water. I want a new units and feel my Hvac company knew about this all along (Hvac dealers, techs, and contractors have been publicly complaining about the defects in Goodman units sold since at least 2007). I read that Hvac companies were going to be given $300 per unit to cover cost associated with the problems to avoid losing business and Goodman never did compensate consumers for their losses. I am so furious with my Hvac guy as we bought the same pair (AC/Furnace) for two homes. What now!
My advice would be NEVER, EVER buy any Goodman product. The company should pay damages to all of the consumers for taking advantage of them. To offer a 10 year parts and lifetime compressor warranty is the only way they can sell their awful products. I hope that my Hvac company stands behind what they have sold me which is a piece of junk. It will take a house burning down and someone being injured or killed before anything might get done. In the meantime - spread the word and never let anyone else be taken advantage of by Goodman! Or even worse - burn up in a fire because of these units.
I also want to add that after the install of the new AC and Furnace, my Ameren Electric bills are over $400 a month in comparison to our old systems - our bills were always in the $200 range. It is working so hard to cool the house and remove the humidity that it runs so much and is so energy inefficient. This whole situation is criminal at best!! The new tech said that his company would never install a GOODMAN!

Model ARUF486016BA Air handler. In this blog, I am not suggesting that you have to buy the very best and most expensive air-conditioner on the market, but just beware of doing business with Goodman. All of us who have owned homes and had to incur the expense of a new heat near unit are typically replacing units that are 15 to 20 years old not 7. I bought the Goodman 4 ton heat pump in early 2008. In 2010 I had a refrigerant leak so I called my repair company and they informed me that the evaporator coil which is the main coil in the air handler was bad and had a leak. He informed me then, that this was a very common problem. He had the coil replaced under warranty which I was shocked he did not cover the labor and $500 later my AC was working.
About a year ago my AC wasn't cooling so I called the company and they came in and put some Freon and it and told me once again the coil was leaking. I asked them if they could get a hold of Goodman and/or the distributor to see if they would replace the old part once again they said no. I had them charge the unit up at $150 and it bought me another year. I just priced repairing the unit and it will be approximately $1200. I figured I would call Goodman and see if they would potentially replace that product once again given the class-action suits that I've seen on the Internet and unhappy customers all over the United States. I spoke to the first line of communications and she informed me "know there's nothing we I can do" and I should just replace the whole unit. My question of her was "do you have $5000 to spend on a condition of your house?"
I spoke to a supervisor this morning and pleaded my case and she had the audacity to say "the evaporator coils may not have been installed properly or they're not in a safe environment for our products." Really! The repair company that I've been dealing with for so many years told me they haven't sold Goodman products in a few years because of the problems they had. It is very interesting that pretty much the only AC units on eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist are Goodman units. I am going to replace my unit with another brand and one thing I learned is you don't have to spend top dollar on the unit, but to do have to do your diligence and feel comfortable with the manufacturer of the product. Shame on you Goodman Corporation for peddling that junk. No wonder there are class-action suits out there.

I feel as if I have no recourse and am stuck with this faulty product. The air conditioner is defectively designed and cracked resulting in it leaking refrigerant, thus making my unit entirely inoperable unless I pay 750.00 total. As a result, my electric bill has increased because while the unit was leaking, it required more power for adequate cooking. Because the leakage of the refrigerant from the evaporator coil left my unit completely ineffective, I am forced to pay 750.00 in total repairs to address the problem fully which will take 2 weeks.
Worse, today I had to pay 79.00 for a "leak search" out of my pocket to determine why your product is not functioning as promised by your company. I had to pay 75.00 for the visit and 190.00 for refrigerant. Worse, I have to pay 425.00 in labor next week to have your item repaired, the bill is at 750.00 plus at this point. I am outraged. This is ridiculous. I'm told that it is tough and I should pay or my house will be hot.

My Goodman unit was installed new 2008, both inside and out. The inside unit which was a gas furnace had to be replaced as it was still under the 5 year warranty. The outside unit stopped working about a month ago, which the HVAC guy said it was the capacitor was gone. They replaced that and a week later it stopped working. So now I was told to replace the coil as that was the problem. So I had to pay for that to be replaced, as I was told the warranty was only covered 5 years. That being done, a week later it stopped working again. So this time they said I needed to change out the outside unit.
I started asking question as I am now very frustrated, and did a little research. Come to find out, these should have been covered under the 10 year warranty, but we are not being told by the HVAC people to register the system. I was under the impression that they register it, as they are the ones that order them and install them. I have been doing property management for 20 years and was never told this. Also my clients have never been told this either, so I am thinking this is another way for them to make money, as we have to fork out to have these units replaced after only 6-7 years old. The HVAC companies should be held responsible for this and stop misleading the consumers, either they register the units or give the owners the option to register it.
I do property management and have been using the same HVAC company for years. So all of the owners property that I take care of and have had replacement units, have never been told, nor was any of the warranty papers brought back to my company for me to register them or give to the owners. My other house - we have had that unit in for 20 years and it is still going (not a Goodman unit). I told my HVAC guy and he told me he had not registered them and that it was up to the owners to register them - how can they if they do not know. Valerie in their customer service basically told me 'tough, you're a couple of months out of your warranty' and that they would not cover labor. Claudine, her supervisor, told me the same thing. And they added, since I had not returned their 'registration card' in the first month after I owned the unit my warranty would be decreased from ten years to five years. If it's not one thing, it's another, and I'm too poor to just kick these suckers to the curb where they belong and buy a better AC unit from another company (I sometimes can't even afford the extortionate repair fees until winter). So I often spend the dog days of July through August sweating like an animal inside my house, which has basically turned into a convection oven, all thanks to the stalwart and dependable Goodman air conditioning unit. I guess hearing that half an entire year's income is going down the toilet every single year to repair their ** product that was defective from the day they installed it just doesn't matter to the fine folks at Goodman. Avoid these charlatans in favor a more reputable and fair business if you can.

Again, 2 service calls per year because the AC kept freezing up due to low freon requiring 3-4 pounds each service. Last service call in October 2015 had to have more Puron added and this spring, the unit is now completely out of Puron, 13 pounds and the culprit is again the evaporator. If the technician tells me they won't hold up the warranty on replacing the part and it's going to cost me over $200.00... that is it, I will not repair it but go and purchase me a new Carrier from a dealer down the street from me. I bought a brand new house in 2009 that had already been built and had a Goodman AC. Within just two years, the issues started. I live in Florida where it gets as hot as hell and it slowly started to not cool to the temp it was set to. I never asked much of it, just a temp of 74 and it wouldn't reach it, it would just run and run and run. I had the company that installed it come out and service it numerous times and, of course, the 10 year warranty doesn't cover the coolant, which I was told by another company, was out of date and being phased out anyway, and it was really expensive. After leak, leaks, and more leaks, the whole thing crapped out and would cost over 3 grand to get it working half-azzed and there was a 2-week wait from the company that installed the POS.
I decided to do some digging on the internet and found nothing but complaints about the Goodman and the company that installed it so I went with someone else. I had to get a whole new unit to replace the Goodman after only 5 years and nothing but problems. The new company found pressure leaks and shoddy installation. I got a Carrier installed by Anderson Air in Pensacola (who are awesome, by the way), they even came on Sunday because it was so hot outside. So far so good. My bills each month dropped dramatically, it works, it doesn't leak, and it can be 110 degrees outside and it easily cools to whatever I set it to. I see that some of the positive reviews for the Goodman include its price, lol. It's a money pit!! You'd be way better off just buying a Carrier upfront.

First of all, I'm not the type to write a review every time I experience something or go on YELP every time I go to a restaurant. Actually this is my first time ever writing a review. But this experience has really gotten under my skin. My Goodman gas furnace went out last Saturday. I am a mechanic by trade and have worked on many RV gas furnaces so of course I checked it out myself. I took the cover off of the unit and figured out in a few minutes that the problem was that the squirrel cage was in a bind. Therefore not able to spin to push hot air through the duct because the cage was laying against the shroud that the motor and cage sits in. And what had caused this was that one of the brackets supporting the motor had broken a weld.
Apparently, it had been running this way for a while because the bearings in the motor were shot. So, even if the bracket was rewelded the problem wouldn't be cured because the bearings are shot making the motor shaft tilt which the cage rides on. Therefore the outcome would be the same. So I called Goodman and of course they were closed on weekends. Which is understandable. Monday I called and after getting forwarded to 3 different people I finally reached someone in the warranty department. I gave them the model and serial number and they said that the unit was under warranty because it is only 2 years old. Well, that's good I thought to myself. But, this is the kicker. I explained the problem, which is very simple I thought. But they wouldn't take my word for it. I was told that I had to call a professional that was a Goodman dealer to check it out so they {THE DEALER} could call it in and order the part.
So I had to call a heating & air company and pay them a service call and labor just to tell me the same thing that I already knew. That was all done on Monday. Later that day the heating & air company called and told me that the order was placed and ordered. But I would be responsible for the shipping, which I don't agree with. I asked when I should expect the new parts. They said probably Friday. The parts were coming from Texas, which should be a 4 day delivery time, since I'm in NC.
Meanwhile the temperature is in the 30's cause it's January. You would think that they would rush delivery the parts. It's now the following Saturday and still no parts and I'm still without heat. I went and bought an electric heater but it only heats one room. Hindsight I would have been better off buying the parts online for less money but Goodman wouldn't give me the part number for the part I need. Now I've spend $150.00 for the service call and labor and I expect the shipping to be at least $50.00. Not counting the $120.00 electric heater I had to buy. So much for WARRANTY... I am very unsatisfied with the GOODMAN products and even more with the customer service. Needless to say the next house I build will not have anything GOODMAN in it.

Goodman distributor in San Antonio said it would be here in 2 to 3 days. Five days past and no a/c unit. Finally, my repairman gets a phone call that the unit has arrived. The repairman gets ready to go pick it up and calls to verify and was told by the distributor that they were sorry, but the unit was thought to be his but was for someone else. They then told him that it would be 8 - 10 days for the correct unit to get here. Meanwhile, I borrowed fans to place all in my house. Moving 100-degree temperatures is like baking in an oven.
My repairman then called the distributor again because I had absolutely no a/c and was in extreme heat. The distributor then investigated the situation and found a unit in another town and told my repairman that it would be shipped that day and should arrive in a couple of days. 10 days of no a/c so far and no response on my unit which was supposed to have been here by now. The repairman checks on it and was told that the person who was supposed to ship it went on vacation so it did not get shipped. They would make sure it would get shipped that day.
Three day later we received word that the unit had arrived. My repairman picked the unit up and tried to install it when to his dismay (and mine) the distributor gave him the wrong unit. He packed the crate up and drove back into San Antonio. The manager at the distributorship apologized profusely and checked in her computer for the unit and lo and behold located one on the other side of San Antonio. That unit had been in that warehouse this whole time (13 days with no a/c). I received my bill and was appalled at the price because of all the hassles my repairman had to charge me for all of the running around. In 2009, I built a new house and it was finished about August of 2010. I bought a Goodman whole home system, which had an air conditioning unit, a furnace, and the inside air conditioning unit in February of 2010. Since I have had it installed by professionals, I have had nothing but trouble. The outside air conditioning unit turns on very loud and when it gets to normal speed, the fan will jolt really hard and you will hear a really loud grinding noise. This has happened since about September of 2010. We have had 3 service calls out to our house and all of them said that it needed freon or there was a fan issue. We didn't have the money for them to take it apart and find something wrong to cost even more money, so we left it alone. It still does that grinding every time it runs.
Then, yesterday (9/5/2015) the outside unit was making a weird noise and the inside unit was not blowing any air into the vents of the house. The inside unit was also make a whining sound, so I shut the whole system off and went back to check it out. The pipe that goes from the outside unit to the inside unit had ice build-up all over it. I let it thaw for an hour and turned it on again to see what it would do. The outside unit will turn on fine, (still makes that grinding noise) but the inside unit will not turn on at all, so it will not blow any air to the vents. I tripped the breakers to the system to see if it would reset, and now the outside unit will not turn on at all!
We called our local place to have them look at it this morning (9/6/2015). They got the outside unit working but found out that the fan for the inside unit is burned up and they don't have it in stock. If they can't fix this, I am just going to rip the whole system out and put in a Carrier or a Trane system. I can't believe a company would do this to people. Take their money and then right after the warranty expires, the whole system goes down. UNBELIEVABLE!!

Purchased a Goodman heat pump and air handler 09/09/08. I called Goodman and verbally gave them the serial numbers of both units and I also sent in the warranty card as well. 2013 unit started leaking freon so I had it topped off and the unit ran fine. 2015 leaks got worse so I called Goodman and they stated I sent in the warranty card 05/15/09? Data input error perhaps or did this happen when they cut over to a new system? Found out they did put in a new system but don't know when.
Spoke to a male CSR rude and abrasive refused to let me talk to a supervisor but finally caved in. Spoke to Hema and she stated they had the serial # for the heat pump but no air handler so no warranty on the handler. Told her I called and mailed in the warranty card then was told they do the data input and then the cards are thrown away. My word against theirs? I thought the customers was always right? So much for that theory! I have called several times after that, no return calls. There's a surprise! Although Hema was helpful but still no warranty.
I like the unit and have very little problems with it until the leak, and now the warranty. What is the point of having a warranty and then not to honor it? So now they think I will get stuck with the bill... wrong! Got things to do and people to speak to about the warranty issue. This is just bad P/R on their behalf and I am sorry they are taking that stand. Will I buy another Goodman unit? Maybe not because of this warranty issue.

AC heater air handler unit - When installed my house flooded. Phoned the installer, I did everything correctly. Phoned Goodman company, was told if I can wait a month they will send someone to look at it. This is right after installation. They said he did not unplug something so it was emptying in the house - my house is carpeted, it's in the kitchen/dining room, living room and passageway to the bedrooms dripping wet. He came, said it was fixed. Used it for a month, and it was not used for 2 years. Now it's flooding again and it's freezing up above the filter. Turned off for a week and tried again - frozen. Thawed it out and just turned it off. This unit is a piece of crap and Goodman should be closed. I had a Trane for 20 years no problem and lightning hit the compressor. So after him pressuring me to change the unit for nearly $4,000 dollars, I got ripped off. Wish I had all the information on this unit but it's mislaid. Will try and locate.

(8-20-15) Our house had a Lennox heat pump system that came with a new house made in 2006. It nearly broke me financially with repairs and the straw broke when my family was on the cold side during last winter. I called Recker and Boerger this year and they gave us a bid on a brand-new GOODMAN 16 SEER 4-ton unit armed with a scroll compressor, matching variable air handler, 5-year parts and labor warranty on the entire unit, 10-year parts after the 5 years is up, and a LIFETIME scroll compressor replacement guarantee in the event that the compressor fails for any reason--providing it stays at the same house it was installed in. I explained in great detail to the R&B salesman that my family had been through hell with winter and repair costs and we really needed some good service.
This Goodman unit we got installed is fabulous. It's quiet, powerful and it slowly brings up the air speed in the house and slowly reduces to almost not notice it. The outdoor 4-ton unit is quiet enough for people to carry a conversation without missing a single pronunciation...it's that quiet! Please do yourself a favor and take the time to tell your installing contractor and they will come through for you like they did us. Make it personal, get to know them a little by offering some lunch (pizza and pop) like we did, and they will do a PERFECT JOB for you...providing they have the ability.
Our final cost was that they took off 3% of the price (paid cash with a 401K loan) and they threw in a free HEPA whole house filtration system and half off of a forced air HVAC humidifier. I saved ~$600 + I got back $200 from Duke Energy for a qualifying energy saving system!!! Win, win, win. People, we love this unit and my wife thinks I am a superhero now. Everybody is happy and the contractors left with a full belly and a thank you. Take care of people and they will take care of you.

In 2015, freon leaked, was now attributed to the evaporator coil. In the four years since the "new" unit was installed, I have spent over $1000 for labor replacing BOTH coils and freon recharges. Basically, the product is a piece of junk and major parts need to be replaced - not anyone expects of a "new" equipment. Is there collusion between the manufacturer and the A/C service provider: one sells product that should be pulled from the market, the other recommend the product and makes money by labor charges?

Just found out r22 production will cease in 2016. This unit is leaking like crazy. Called Goodman. They say my unit is out of warranty because it wasn't registered in first 60 days. What? Is this a gimmick? Thought it came with a 10-year warranty. Seems like a easy way for them to get out of warranty for their products.
I've had cheap Walmart window units last longer than this piece of junk and way cheaper. I found a new a-coil for sale on internet for 500 bucks but found out it might leak when installed new. The a/c company said they would install one for 1500$. Are you kidding. This unit is out of warranty 6 months. Would have been better off paying extra for something better. The unit was blowing warm air. The installer came on 4 occasions. 1st time to remove Freon, 2nd time and third time diagnose system, 4th install indoor thermostat. Nothing. The unit blows cold air when the sun is down and as soon as the sun comes up fails and blows hot air. Miserable unit.
Had a second HVAC person look at unit. Diagnosis, Condenser. To that I say, REALLY it’s not even installed a month??? My house is 80 +, I should not have to live in the heat with a brand new unit sitting outside my house. Today we are suppose to have our installer back to replace the condenser. If this does have the system up and running 24/7, my instructions are for him to remove the unit and install another brand more reputable such as Carrier, York, Trane. Original Review: July 1, 2015
I purchased 3 Goodman HVAC units (3 outside and 3 inside air handlers) in 2004. We purchased the units because of the lifetime compressor warranty on the outside units. I should have known something was wrong with the units from the start. Out of the 11 years, they probably have been worked on 6-8 of those. Replaced one compressor in 2008, now another one has went bad. I didn't realize the 2008 replacement was covered under the 10 year warranty, but that was good, saved me a little money. Now it's out of the 10 year warranty period, and for whatever reason (the installer or re-seller) didn't register the units through the online or mail process. I was never informed to register the units either.
So now, to get the unit fixed I'm looking at a $1200 repair bill. If this was the first repair, I probably wouldn't be so upset, but due this technicality, I'm out of warranty on the other 2 units as well. Funny response from goodman "It was more of an incentive." So my advice would be stay away from Goodman. Also, I have different HVAC companies check the install, and all of them says there were no issues with the installation of the units.

Due to Dirty filters closed vents in rooms not being used. This causes stress on all components. Restricted air flow causes High pressure Heat on motors. Poor pre-existing Duct work gets undetected.

First off let's all keep in mind that a HVAC system doesn't move around (it's not a car or a truck); it doesn't sit atop an old bridge with vehicular traffic jostling the equipment or anything like that. A heating and A/C system sits in place, half indoors sheltered from wind and rain, sun, heat and snow... Now: Five years ago I was convinced to have a GOODMAN HEATING & COOLING system put into my home to replace a 30+ year old system that STILL ran like a champ. (Old coolant system; no longer making a now-outlawed version of coolant for refrigeration units.) Goodman is rock solid. Goodman is American Made! (Woo-hoo!!!) Their value is that you're paying for the quality and workmanship built into the product rather than for company advertising like the name brands yadah, yadah.
Here's the reality of my 5-year-old(!) Goodman heat-pump system installed for me: EACH OF THE FIVE YEARS I have owned this expensive albatross I have had parts replaced. Each year it is something different: An electronics board, the compressor (TWICE), filters, etc. TODAY (on the weekend when no HVAC folks are working) THE UNIT FAN WENT OUT (105 forecast for today. 107 forecast for tomorrow, Sunday. Lovely). But hey, no biggie; I have a warranty! (It covers quality replacement parts for my Goodman system.) BUT I PAY TO HAVE THE WARRANTY PARTS DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED! (Yeah, but the parts are covered. until the warranty runs out and THEN WHAT?!)
Call a customer service agent there in Texas and YOU'LL GET THE RUN-AROUND: "Well first, Sir, we'll need for you to have a technician come out (YOU WILL PAY FOR THAT OF COURSE) and then when we receive his report we will decide what can be done on our end to repair or replace your quality Goodman unit" y'all. And then maybe you'll EVENTUALLY have cool in 100+ WITH HUMIDITY, or warm when it's awfully chilly outside. (I have had problems now both in the Winter and Summer cycles of weather here.)
And no matter what if you make the bad decision to go with Goodman and deal with each year, every year replacing one part after another till you no longer have anything remotely like what was originally installed at your home to begin with DO NOT OPT FOR A HEAT-PUMP SYSTEM! Heat-pumps are profoundly inefficient! I live in Arizona (mild Winters all things considered). Yet my Goodman heat-pump gently warms the home, put your hand up against a duct-register and feel the tepid-warmth coming out. WITH GAS YOU HAVE INSTANT HEAT; no waiting for the heat-pump to expel the cool air from inside your home as it then creates warm air to replace it with.
And do not even consider fluctuating day-time/night-time temperature settings at the thermostat warmth during the day when folks are up and around and working in the home then set 5 to 8 less at night so you can sleep in a cool room. (That's not how a heat-pump works!) With gas you set your thermostat as you wish. The system follows directions and when you wake up in the morning heat, not a system that freezes-up and then won't work at all! FORGET HEAT-PUMPS unless you want added frustration to the already poor quality of a Goodman investment. When my Parts Warranty runs out I will happily rid myself of this P.O.S. and forget that Goodman even exists.

I purchased an HVAC system in 2013, which broke before it was even 2 years old! The repairman mentioned that he had to completely refill the refrigerant because it had all leaked out. He said that it leaked out because the unit's factory weld joint was faulty, causing the refrigerant to leak out. He mentioned that this absolutely should not happen to a system that is this new. He mentioned that I should contact Goodman for reimbursement.
I contacted customer service, who asked that I submit a letter with the serial number of the unit and a copy of the repair bill for reimbursement. I received a reply via letter, which was very obviously a canned response, telling me the same thing I was told on the phone, that the warranty does not cover refrigerant, labor, etc. Only parts. The company stated in the letter, "It is impossible to predict the life of any one part." That tells me that the design, test, and quality assurance divisions are severely lacking. Goodman obviously does not care about its products or customers. I'm still waiting on a return call from customer service.

This is why all parts are made in China. That is first problem. Next all units run on 410a a very high pressure. Thanks to the government there are no more 22 units to buy. So it does suck that yes you have a parts warranty labor is not covered. So all I can say is it sucks. I have my own heating and cooling company. I called our AC tech on May 8 and told him we were having issues, the vents were not blowing. I turned the unit off for about an hour and a half and turned it back on and it started blowing cool air again. Then on Sunday, May 10 it went out again. The AC guy, **, came out on Monday. Tubes/coils going into the unit were frozen over, and in attic was frozen over. He chipped and melted with running heat and now it is working again. He said the motor may be going bad, but he got it working again. Charged us $89 which I believe was a good price. But tonight, May 15, we are very uncomfortable with the unit set on 74.
I am having another tech come out to check unit but I am VERY disappointed in our 10 year old Goodman product... We have had trouble from the very beginning. Goodman has caused us a lot of discomfort.

I am retired and cannot afford to be paying service and parts for something I should not have to do. I had to pay $250.00 for service, part and freon. I called your company and was told to contact you when the service was complete. I have all the invoices. In 2009, nearing the finish line of my post-Hurricane Katrina rebuild, I had two new Amana HVAC heat pumps installed. Less than 2 years later, one started malfunctioning and I was told the coils had a leak. Second opinion said no, but the problem persisted as the coolant apparently did leak out over time. Last year, the coils on the downstairs unit appeared to have a leak. I have a parts warranty but the labor runs between $800-$1000 per unit. I called Amana, unaware that this was a common problem, and the customer service rep could just have well sent me a picture of her middle finger with the attitude and complete lack of concern she showed. I guess the volume of complaints had her on edge.
I did a lot of research before I bought these units and I had faith in the company. I never would have imagined I would have this much trouble in such a short period of time, as my old units had been in service for at least the 17 years since I'd bought the house with only minor repairs, never coils or compressors. I've been screwed by just about every contractor that set foot in my house but was happy to find a good HVAC company that didn't screw me on service, but the product is just BAD. I can't believe Goodman/Amana doesn't care enough about its reputation to address its customer's concerns. They've changed their policies about it several times from what I can discern and now there's a class action suit against them.
I teach marketing at a university and would love to give them some lessons because they're in serious need. Bad moves, Goodman. Many bad moves. I'm reluctant to pursue a class action suit because their lawyers will make millions and I'll get something like a $100 voucher, but maybe a private suit is in order. At the very least, I should contact the FTC.

I explain, Goodman does not stand by its product or its warranty. Parts which should be in stock, take weeks if not several weeks to procure. Systems at initial start up neglect to work and require new parts. I have personally installed systems which upon start up I find the compressor would not work, nor could be fixed. I have also witnessed the manufacturer delay, disregard, and intentionally abandon their own warranty in an effort to not produce parts and or labor to satisfy their warranty commitment. I have lost customers due to their products, employee incompetence (neglecting to order parts repeatedly). I am an Hvac contractor and technician with over 20 years experience. I have installed well over 1,000 pieces of Goodman equipment over that time. I service all brands of heating and cooling equipment. I can honestly say that Goodman has no more issues with break downs or leaks than the others. As a matter of fact there are some of the major players that have much higher failure rates. The key to any heating and cooling system working properly is the initial sizing, matching, ducting, return and installation. I have experienced a very low failure rate on coils both indoor and outdoor and can count on one hand the number of compressor failures I have had on units I installed. The Goodman equipment comes with a 5 year warranty but once each individual piece is registered at www.goodmanmfg.com, after install the parts warranties are increased to 10 years free of charge from Goodman.
I am sorry to hear of anyone having problems with their heating and cooling equipment but I have to say that if that equipment was installed correctly and sized, ducted, returned and matched properly most of these problems could have been avoided. Some of the worst nightmares I have encountered have been initiated by an installer that the home owner knew. They be great folks but that doesn't make them great installers or knowledgeable about all aspects of proper system configuration. Word of mouth will generally get you the best people to work with not fancy advertising or being the biggest. Not to mention these folks are usually higher on initial install and service/warranty. I hope folks will consider that there is more to a heating and air conditioning issue than the name on the equipment.

Then in June 2014 it required replacement of the outdoor evaporator coil when it stopped producing A/C. So in the first 4 years, it has required 3 major repairs. Sure, Goodman provides a 5-year warranty on all parts. But my most recent repair still cost over $1,000 for the labor and refrigerant. (The refrigerant is NOT included in the warranty, and that alone cost more than $600 this time.) I complained to Goodman, who told me I should have paid for the additional labor warranty as well. I suppose if you insist on buying a Goodman heat pump, then I would recommend the full labor warranty. Just about every year, I have a breakdown or part failure in my Goodman 4.0 ton 15 seer AC unit. I had replaced my old unit for better efficiency, and to add more tonnage because I wanted to cool my FL room. My old unit was installed with the house in the early 80's and the only thing I ever did was clean out the outside unit and hosed off the coils. My old unit was basically maintenance free and in working order the day I pulled it out. However the Goodman unit installed in 2007 had a stinky odor from the day it was installed and still has funny odors to this day, 7 years later. My installer called it dirty sock syndrome.
The unit already had the problem because of the coil dressing oils they used at the factory. Heater has gone out in unit at least 3 or 4 times in previous winters. The starter went bad - I had that removed and replaced. Air conditioner went out last year, bad expansion valve. R & R, Very costly. No AC for 5 days. This year AC out again. Drier is leaking Freon and the reversing valve is stuck in the heat mode. Not good in the summer time. Family already out of AC for a week in the middle of July. Waiting on parts to be shipped. Today is Mon. - might get parts on Tue. or Wed.
My AC man recommended the Goodman unit to me because of how good it once was... Over the past few years, he will not sell or recommend Goodman to anyone because of the catastrophic part failures and the overall poor quality of parts. In seven years, he has been to my house more than seven times. He has cut me some breaks in the price of some of the repairs... I guess he feels some guilt on selling me on the Goodman name. He did say that Goodman was a good and reliable product then they went downhill. I felt that I had a lemon till I heard the same horror stories from friends and friends of friends that are experiencing similar problems and hard part failures from Goodman.
I believe now I don't have a lemon but a very poor quality AC and the parts contained within the unit. I don't believe that your installer should come over to fix your newly installed unit 4 or 5 times in the first 2 years of ownership. He said after he changes out all the bad parts it should be good to go - unless I get another bad part from the bad "batch". I don't believe that ironing out all the kinks (bad parts) is an acceptable way to achieve a good working unit. After this most recent failure, I will be close to the $1200 mark in labor repairs to the unit. Thank God most all of the parts have been covered under the 10-year warranty. However the long wait for the parts to be shipped to my installer is quite irritating. I am sweating in the summer or freezing in the winter for too long periods of time waiting on my warranted parts to arrive.

I have yet another Goodman Mfg residential unit that has failed. I am sorry to see that I am not alone. Everyone should refer to this web site before purchasing any major appliance. I purchased a new, worry-free home in 2008. My first problem occurred in the 4th year of being in the house and every year since then. Every year it was the same problem. There is a leak. All the Freon would leak out and have to be refilled. Parts were also changed but the problem still is happening. By the winter months, all the Freon would have drained and my electric bills were doubling every month. I am disabled with 2 kids, on a very tight budget, so this was actually taking food out of our mouths.
On the 6th year of my new house, the warranty ran out along with all my Freon. I had a different repairman come out and he mentioned that Goodman was the bottom of the list for this type of product. You do get what you pay for so pay a little more for a better unit and you will be much happier. The builder of my house sent in the warranties under his name so I am not aware of any problems, recalls and any suits filed against them. Goodman's customer service have no compassion. I don't think they are human. When I contacted them, their answer was parts do fail and I should have gotten the extended warranty. That would have done nothing except cost me more money (service call $69.95), a part or two then the labor. If this review stops 1 person from buying from Goodman Mfg, I would be happy.

Now when the ac is on we smell the same hot lighter odor and warm air come out of registers instead of clean cool air. Goodman after several months of complaint fireplace furnace. Nothing changed. Odor still here. Installer telling us load calc is correct and right size of furnace installed. Is the odor caused by heat exchanger getting hot due to size or the system is defective?

I also do not know if I should pay $800 and have it fail again or buy a decent air conditioner which works.

We have 2 three-yr-old air conditioning systems. On 8/23, one unit stopped working. We called for service hoping to get the system up & running without paying a lot of money & since the unit is still fairly new, we prayed that parts would still be covered under the manufacture. "No such luck". We were told that we had to replace an E-Z trap, $177.00, a Safety T, $199.00. We were charged for a tune up $155.00, a diagnostic fee $99.00, an Indoor Coil (still covered under warranty) but with labor & other charges, it cost $809.00, a Coolant R-410A $69.00. The other system made an extremely loud noise while running so we had them to check that system as well and were told it needed a condenser fan motor, $209.00.
We moved into our new home on 4/15/10. I can't image why so many problems would be happening to these systems so soon. When I reached out to Goodman to make them aware of what was going on, of course I was asked if we had an extended warranty (wish we had been told about that early on). Their only suggestion was to have the company making repairs to contact distributor for Goodman so that a field tech specialist can come out with company making repairs and make an assessment to see what's going on with the system. I am very upset that we had to spend so much money on these systems so soon and I hope Goodman will stand behind their reputation.

Goodman 2 Ton 13 Seer A/C unit and compressor: Bought a unit in 2009 - every year had to have them come and do something because it either did not heat or did not cool. Bought it for $2,355. In 2012 I ended up with bills over $2,400 in repairs. Whatever went wrong was NEVER a warrantied part. Watched them fix the air handler and saw the most flimsy wires ever which I was told would "burn out" every so often. Last couple of years, the compressor seemed to be rather noisy. Filed a complaint and now I am getting nowhere because the installer and manufacturer keep blaming the other person. IF neither accepts responsibility, then I hope to go the the media to have this resolved. Heard there is a lawsuit against Goodman Mfg. I'd like to have a decent unit put in. Tired of the expense. Have a 10-year warranty and it didn't last 4 years before I had bills that added up to a new unit plus more... Go to another manufacturer.

After having a Goodman furnace installed in my home 7 years ago, I recently had to spend $1000 on repairs. The main blower wheel began to make noise and was found to have cracked welds where the fins attach to the end plate. While the Tech was there he noticed the Combustion Blower was also noisy and dragging. He thought it might last a little longer, but I elected to replace it then as well. Since the furnace was just out of warranty, the cost for the two parts was almost $800. I have seen other complaints regarding Goodman Furnaces and must agree, they are substandard. The initial cost was low, and the unit seems to be efficient, but long term durability is poor. I have heard others say Goodmans are fine for a home you don't intend to keep. Ditto That!

On October 16, 2012 we were awakened by a terrible noise coming from our Goodman HVAC unit inside our 6-year-old Fischer condo. We found that the noise went away when we turned off the heat, which is not feasible when the weather has turned cold recently. Since we have been under a service agreement for the past 2 years with Rick's Heating and Cooling I had them come out and upon investigation it was determined that the noise was related to vibration in the extremely long line-set (approximately 106-110 feet) and DelMonde (the installation company) had paired the 3-ton outdoor heat pump with a 2-1/2 ton inside air handler. We have not been able to use the heat pump as the compressor is failing and the coil on the interior air handler has also failed. Therefore, we have been relying strictly on "emergency" heat and space heaters and keeping the thermostat low in an attempt to minimize our electric bills.
Additionally, Rick Martin of Rick's Heating & Cooling states that even if we replace the heating and air conditioning system he cannot guarantee future performance due to faulty installation of the existing line. Ideally, the entire system needs to be replaced and new Freon lines run in the proper location. This could be a considerable cost to us and may possibly also involve having to cut through our drywall and that of our neighbors'. Naturally, we do not wish to involve our neighbor in this matter, nor do we want to have to bring it up before our condo association board and would like to minimize intrusion and inconvenience of others. As luck would have it the heat pump only had a 5-year warranty and the coil has a ten-year warranty, however, DelMonde failed to register either item for the warranties.
After many weeks of getting opinions from other HVAC companies, two visits from DelMonde, and numerous phones calls with Gary ** of Fischer Homes Warranty Dept. we had an inspection on December 5 with representatives from DelMonde (the installation company), a Goodman factory rep., and Gary ** of Fischer. On December 10, 2012 we received a written opinion from Rob **, the Goodman factory rep, who declared that the refrigerant line set was within guidelines of 150 feet and "equates to a capacity decrease from rating of approximately 12%" and "It is not outside our allowable design parameters per the R-22 Long Line Set Application guide and is not detrimental to the system operation." He further noted that the heat pump and air handler is a "proper" match ... and he "can find no issues with the application or installation."
This is very perplexing to us, especially since 3 different HVAC specialists have indicated that the very long line set is much longer than they would deem appropriate and heat pump/air handler do not appear to be a proper match. On December 16, I wrote a response to Rob ** stating that we are not satisfied with his findings and felt the cost burden to replace our HVAC system should be equally shared by Goodman, Fischer, DelMonde and us. To date, we have yet to receive a reply to my proposal.

At that time they replaced the compressor and said we had no labor warranty and charged us $450.00 to replace it. On 05-16-05 it stopped cooling again so we called A.T. Harris out and they said the unit was low on freon and recharged it. (We did not call Hearn back because they did not even warranty the unit for the first year as most do.) Again on 05-22-06 A. T. Harris had to return because once again the unit was not cooling. They recharged the unit again and said it was a little low on freon.
It also had to be charged again on 05-08-07 and again on 07-15-07. On 09-05-07 we had Von's Heating and Air come out and find our leak. They said it was the Condenser Coil and it cost us another $650.00. The unit again went out on 05-27-08 and they returned and said it now was the Accumulator leaking. As I have called 4 times to give you the opportunity to come and inspect your unit, as well as attempted to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization without success (as it was installed by a contractor, Keith **, I do not have the order number). I have photographed the unit, the damage to my wall & box, and will keep the unit for your inspection and pick up. As I am involved in litigation for a living, I was attempting to give you sufficient notice to be able to conduct your own investigation, as well as give you the opportunity to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, as the 4 individuals I reached out to advised it was against their policy to identify themselves, either by name or employee ID#, I was forced just leave another phone message. I did speak to a woman who seemed very helpful, and sympathized with the situation, as it involves a 92-year-old woman, with an 87 degree bedroom, although the temperature is 74 outside. Fortunately, we have windows to open. It is also fortunate that the melted siding, for the most part, is hidden by the new power box. Unfortunately, we need to replace the unit now, given the heat this time of year, and her frail health.
As I have not heard back from you, I have been forced into a situation where I have contacted Sears, as they can deliver and install a functional unit prior to the forecast heat wave coming up late this upcoming weekend. We have an appointment for an in-house estimate scheduled this Thursday at 6:30 pm. As service did not understand the urgency of maintaining a safe temperature for an ailing elderly resident, I am reaching out to the president, customer service, and if need be, the consumer complaint hotline in the State of New Jersey, which will list the product failure of the above unit on the internet, along with others I am aware of.
I am a reasonable man, and would like to resolve this problem as quickly, and amicably as possible. For that reason, I will give you the benefit of the $500 coupon which we received for a Kenmore unit. I will also pay the difference in price. I will, however, look to your company for any additional charges for installation. As the unit is not functional, you can send a representative to inspect it, service, and send it back to be repaired, and even sold as a reconditioned unit. I do not think it was ever functional, since as soon at it was installed, and the York representative advised the condenser appeared to be working, it only resulted in blowing warm air. If this is the result you expect of a 2.5 ton cooling unit, only cooling a 2-room zone, I am glad you have a 30-day guarantee.
As this has been going on since the day of the explosion, and the installer has not been available to attempt to repair or examine the unit, I am forced to look after the well-being of my 92-year-old grandmother, and replace the unit. I have no intention of allowing the opportunity to obtain a functional unit, with a guarantee that is longer than 30-days. As stated, I am willing to pay the difference, to obtain a 10-year guarantee, as well as an efficiency rating higher than one notch from worst. I will be looking to your company for the cost of the labor to replace the unit. As I requested a high efficiency, dependable unit, with a name brand that shouts out dependability, you may want to discuss the choice of this unit with the York representative, or the contractor who relayed our requirements.
Please feel free to have a representative stop by to inspect the unit, prior to Friday, when it may be disconnected. It will still be available for inspection and pick up after that, in the yard. I will fax a copy of the letter to the York representative, who can make arrangements for its return, as I have no intention of paying for shipping of a unit that almost burned down my house. As far as the box is concerned, I'm sure that was installed prior to delivery, along with the owner's manual we never received, so we would not be aware of the low efficiency rating, as well as the phenomenal 30 days you are willing to stand behind your product. Under the circumstances, I don't blame you, and I'm glad my kids were not near it when it failed.
If your representative has a product available, with a name brand I recognize, capable of cooling 2 rooms, which comes with a GUARANTEE OF AT LEAST 7 YEARS, I would be more than happy to consider the difference in price, as well as the installation, delivery, etc. is free. In fact, I would be willing to sign a release for any and all property damage, inconvenience, etc. Further, although I received no response to my prior complaints, I would consider allowing you time to rectify the situation upon receipt of a check for $500, so I am not prejudiced by missing the opportunity to take advantage of the Kenmore sale. Just to be clear, I have worked in the defense of product claims since 1983, and am a Senior Complex Litigation Manager for an insurance company. Although I would be embarrassed to have my name listed as a plaintiff in this matter, I am well aware my wife could proceed as plaintiff in this matter, as she issued the check. Govern yourself accordingly.

Hi, I have an issue about a product I have and I would like to know about what I can do about it. It all started when I had my home built in 2002. I have a Goodman heating and air unit installed new. Around $8000.00 for two units installed. We moved in the home at the end of Oct. 2002 and started using the heating unit for the first time in Dec. 2002. We started noticing in January our first month's heating bills were about $300.00. My wife was about to have our first child so we stayed with relatives through Jan. and only had the furnace on 50 degrees to keep the pipes from freezing. In Feb.. when we got the electric bill it was $640.00. I contacted the contractor who installed the unit. He came out and determined it had a defective part and changed it out, but the unit still blew out only slightly warm air. He said that was normal and that all Goodman products were like that. So we went on the rest of that winter freezing and paying the high bills.
In the next November of 2003 we again tried the furnace and again it was still blowing out cool air. We had tried to have thanksgiving dinner here but the unit would not heat so again we had the contractor come out and found out it had another defective part so it was again worked on. At this time it still only blew out slightly warm air. So we had to spend most of Dec. 2003 with family again. This past Dec of 2004 I had another company come out to check the unit and they also found some defective parts with the unit. After they had worked on it for the first time it put out heat and worked great for about 3 weeks when it finally blew the compressor up because of two wire rubbing together inside the unit and burnt a hole in the gas lines and leaked out the fluids causing the compressor to lock up. That will cost us $600.00.
Now by this time I have called the Goodman manufacturing company and was put on chain calling list of people to contact from the contractor to the distributor in Lexington, KY who has told us that they would contact the manufacturer to have someone install the compressor. This has went on since Jan 25th 2005 and I was told by the manufacturing rep Wed. February 23rd that I would have to pay for the compressor and labor and they MAY reimburse me part of the money. The problem is while I've been waiting 5 weeks on them to do all this runaround phone tag, I have to use the emergency backup heat to try and warm the house. It has ran my electric bill up last month to $730.00. Who knows how high it's going to be this next month. Probably $1000.00 or more.
I would like to know if there is a way of resolving this matter with the company for their defective product. I have been paying for all the labor on these previous breakdowns and I'm tired of paying for repairs on a product that is new with a 10 year warranty that has had 5 defective parts already in 2 and a half years.

We purchased a brand new home in 2000. This April, when we had the A/C unit serviced prior to the beginning of summer, the servicer found that our A/C unit was about to die. We went ahead and had the system replaced to the tune of $4500. On the replaced outdoor compressor was a sticker from Goodman Manufacturing that stated if the unit had to be replaced between 13 months to 60 months after initial installation, you could get a $400 rebate. All they needed was your original dated settlement papers, the copy of the new installation and a check for $20 to cover the processing fees.
I submitted all of this information at the beginning of May and mailed it to the address that was on the sticker. A month later, I received the letter back as "Address Undeliverable." Oddly enough, this same sticker was on my NEW A/C unit with the same undeliverable address on it. Anyway, I looked Goodman Manufacturing up on their website, called to confirm the Address with a human being and sent my request out again. By the end of July, I still had heard nothing! I got back on the website and emailed my complaint to Goodman. A Byron ** answered and wanted the serial number and model number of the OLD unit (this was never requested before). Anyway, I managed to dig up an old form from a service call when the A/C was turned on the first year we had it and gave this to Bryon. He then said that Goodman had no such warranty on this model and did I have a copy of my warranty. I explained that this was a new home and I was never given a copy of the warranty. I have not heard from him since.
Not only did I have to replace an inferior product at a cost of $4500, but now they won't even stand by a measly $400 rebate. I think new home building is a scam anyway, if I would have purchased the A/C unit and had it installed myself (like I just did), I would have had some kind of warranty from the installer. Since it was a new home, I only had a one year limited new home warranty, which did not cover the A/C unit. I feel this company should stand behind their product regardless of the paperwork I don't have. I obviously had the A/C unit in question or I would not have a model and serial number to give them!!
