When we purchased our house three years ago it came with fairly complete water treating system. We have continued to have Culligan come to the house and service it once a year. I purchase the expensive activated carbon filter for a price less expensive than if Culligan provided it. The technician had no problem installing the filter I provided. Good and friendly service.

We have a large office fish tank that requires regular water changes. The tap water in this area is terrible and chemical treatments cannot remove all the toxins that harm sensitive and expensive fish. The fish love Culligan water!!! I know this because they have not died yet. When you consider that these fish cost over $100.00 each, Culligan water becomes a big bargain. The patients love the fish and are sad if one dies. We drink some of the water too. Delivery is on time and on target. Can't ask for better than that!

Since installing the softener taking showers in this Florida water is a whole new experience. I couldn't be happier with the end result, and I'm sure all my appliances agree. The maintenance is easy and fairly cheap, just occasionally add salt. The first year of salt is free with Culligan too, so I won't be paying for salt any time soon. Great experience from sales to service.

Happily using Culligan Ann Arbor/Detroit for 25 yrs. We have a lot of iron in our water. Current system is over 20 yrs old and out of warranty. I thought it was time for a new system. So Culligan had Karen ** pay a visit. Karen is what makes Culligan A2 so great. She is the most knowledgeable person when it comes to filtering systems. From the start you could tell she loved her job and was committed to providing the best system for our home. I learned so much. After all the testing and inspection she said that the current system is working great and that a new system was not warranted at this time. She knew from the beginning I was ready to replace the system. It would have been an easy sell. Honesty in sales? How refreshing. She made a couple of recommendations for us to change in our annual maintenance but a new system was not needed. This is why Culligan A2 is great and why I am a Culligan lifer.

If I could rate it worse than one star - I would. I schedule the filter replacement service in my house in September. They gave me an appointment in October. First I was surprised I didn't receive any confirmation on the day prior to the appointment as they usually do. When I call them the next day, they told me they call my house and were told we no longer need to service. Considering for 15 years they were calling my cell number I was very surprised to hear it and asked what number did they call. Of course they didn't give me the right number, instead made up some number I never heard of.

I spend 30 min of my work time on the phone rescheduling the appointment making sure they have the right number and the gate entry code as I know that usually people don't have it when they come to my house. I got an appointment for Middle of November. Today the contractor came to my gates but didn't have the gate entry code and turn away. When I called the office to ask to explanation they again offered me to reschedule the appointment, again I wasted another 30 min of my work time. I feel Culligan just don't care about the customers or those that schedule appointments don't care about their jobs.

I purchased a Culligan water softener (Medallist series) in 2016 for approximately $1100. Three years later I needed a $230 repair. The softener needed a piston replacement kit as the o-rings failed. The repairman explained that the chlorine in the water makes the o-rings fail. A repair of this nature should not be necessary after just 3 years. I will never buy another Culligan product.

Terrible customer service. I will be contacting BBB and headquarters in Rosemont regarding this particular franchise. The Privilege service program is not privilege at all because this franchise doesn't abide contact terms. It states that the resin filter in the softener tank should be changed as needed, but AT LEAST ONCE IN EVERY 5 YEARS. It has been 8. The pressure in the house was gone, had to replace main valve for $700 just to find out its old Culligan's resin. They supposed to change filter at least 3 years ago for free under the terms of maintenance contract, or at least notify me it should be changed. They did nothing. Until I had major issues and found out about it. I had to wait 2,5 weeks for appointment, that was on Saturday as well (!) for them to correct their wrongs. And now it looks I have to wait another week for repair.

No, repair itself takes only 1 day. It's an appointment to install the tank back with new resin that cant be scheduled quick. The customer service and the manager, aware of my specific situation and did nothing to expedite the first call, neither they scheduled the consecutive second call ahead, being well aware that it is what be needed. Do yourself a favor. Go with another filtration/softener company. There are many in the area. Culligan has the worst reviews out of all of them FOR A GOOD REASON.

Service in our area is MARGINAL at best and has been that way for the past 5-10 years. VERY FRUSTRATING. BACKGROUND: We live in Cincinnati and have used Culligan for almost 25 years. Service used to be "great"...on time, as scheduled and no hassles. Clockwork. SERVICE: This office can NOT consistently deliver salt or service their water purification systems. It's SAD. I can't tell you how many times we've called to remind them that it's been MONTHS since their last salt delivery OR that our water purification filter needs to be changed. And when they do come out for a salt delivery they often FAIL to read the delivery notes on our work order to access their equipment by way of our storm cellar entrance. We regularly find salt stacked on our front door stoop or outside our side door.

INCONVENIENT: Culligan migrated to automated delivery reminder calls that force you (the customer) to LISTEN then hang up, STOP what you're doing - NOT an option if you're driving or working - LOCATE the number of your local branch, CALL then WAIT to speak to the correct person IF you're out-of-town OR need to reschedule the delivery.

DECEMBER 2018: It has now been 3 weeks since Culligan stacked our salt delivery outside the side door rather than deliver it using our storm cellar entrance, week 2 they failed to show after we rescheduled, then week 3 the driver "claimed" he could NOT find our side entrance which off the driveway ~20 feet to the left of our front door despite an All Deliveries SIGN with an ARROW pointing to the side door! Week 4 they finally managed to pick up the salt. RIDICULOUS. MARCH 2019: our scheduled delivery went as planned - WooHoo! ...Or so we thought until our dogs ran off that night and we discovered Culligan left the side gate to our back yard "open'. Oh joy. (not)

AUGUST 2019: I received a VM message from our new route driver saying his delivery ticket did not provide any direction as to what to do with our salt so he left it on our side porch (again!) How ironic since we receive multiple automated text delivery alerts and emails. Anyway we exchanged text messages and I requested him to please stop back later in the week to complete his delivery so we could re-secure our cellar door which we must leave unlocked to accommodate their schedule. After 8 days the salt was still stacked on our side porch so I called the driver and my call went to VM so I called the office. They said the best they could do was schedule a driver in another 7 days. Argh! Why me? SIDE NOTE: The ladies that answer the phone are VERY pleasant, they try to help, they schedule the work and can only apologize when it doesn't get done.

Called Culligan to order a delivery of salt this morning. Didn't realize this was a big ask, would require 25 minutes and still be treated poorly. The first person answered to direct my call collecting my information, before transferring me to another representative. I then had the pleasure of repeating this process with another hold and transfer. Customer service rep number three asked for my account information which I provided. Was then helpful enough to update my phone number, then another hold and transfer, they weren't the right person to help. Next representative up spent five mins trying to collect my phone number. I might have been interrupting a tough game of tetris on the other end as I had to repeat the information four times. Offered to put me on hold and transfer. They are really good at hold and transfer. It might be their strategy, much like an insurance company handling a claim. Don't call them expecting help, they could care less.

I called my local Culligan dealer in Santa Clara, CA for help with my reverse osmosis drinking water system. The person on the phone sounded dull, disinterested and just said “We’re not technicians”. When I asked whether they provided customer service after sales and installation they answered “no”. Then I was told to “just try and drain the tank” and/or try to add pressure to the holding tank. They offered no assistance to find a technician. I called a second time only to be told the same thing by a second person, after finding that their suggestions for a DIY fix didn’t work. I asked again about technical service and after another runaround like at the first call I was told ”Well, you could call a plumber”. FINALLY, after an even more pointed set of questions I was told we can schedule a technician to come out. The price they quoted was outrageous and I opted to call a plumber who offered to try to help even though Culligan products are proprietary.

Basically they acknowledge that they made a mistake but that it couldn't exactly be fixed. They offered to move the shed and equipment to a more discreet location on the property and some other accommodations in an attempt to make it right. I appreciated the call and respectfully declined the accommodations, not because I am upset or anything , as I stated in my review it wasn't about the money or property it was just about being treated fairly. My tenants called to cancel Culligan for some reason. Culligan cancelled the service. I called them and told them that the account is in my name and that I play the bill, how is it possible for a random person to call and cancel my account? They apologized and said they would fix it. Well then they called me and said "Well sir since you're now a new customer you'll have to switch to our new system, but not to worry that system is gonna cost you $500 upfront and increase your bill by 100% every month." Needless to say I was furious. I had been with them 10 years before they made me a new customer because one of my tenants tried to cancel it, which they cannot do, so what happened you might ask... Well I got screwed, no one else in my part of town offers the service and they know it. I screamed my way to the top and they don't care so long as they have your money.

Well I have good news for Culligan. In 17 months we have a new company coming to town. I currently have 22 people who have agreed to switch (19 being family). See what Culligan didn't know was that everyone on my street is related to me. We have kept all the land in the family and we are dumping them day one. New company is running a deal where anyone who agrees to switch within the next year gets a permanent discount going forward. We're trying to get up to 50 ppl in our area to switch and basically chase Culligan off. We even requested yard signs as soon as possible so people driving by will know there is going to finally be fair play In town.... Oh did I mention that this new amazing thing resulted in a giant shed being placed right on the front yard that they didn't insulate and when it froze up told knew I was on the hook and had to pay to have it fixed only 90 days later???

This company is straight up a scam. I'm doing my best to chase them out of our town. Funny thing is no one else on my street has this new expensive system, just me since I was a "new" customer. Unbelievable. Can't wait to throw this shed and pumps in the street in 17 months. It isn't about the money you understand, it's about the fact that they took a customer who had paid his bill on time every month for 10 years and screwed him when they had a chance. Avoid this company and do not buy their new better system which has had to have more service than my old one. The old system worked fine and never had a problem, that's probably why they want to you to switch so they can nickel and dime you w service fees every chance they get.

All seemed well, and the system seemed to function ok for almost 4 months. On Father’s Day, found the garage flooded from a HUGE leak in one of the two giant tanks. Furniture & contents in the garage either damaged or destroyed. One of the 2 tanks was leaking SO BAD, we had to completely shut off our water to stop the leak. We were promised by the management someone would be here before noon Today to repair the problem. No show, no call, no water either!

By late afternoon, called again. Got ANOTHER promise of ‘it may be after 5 pm, but someone WILL be there’. Still waiting for even a call or update. Nothing! 9 pm... We have a choice of running water (shower, toilet, dishwasher, etc.) to include a flooded garage containing much of what didn’t burn. OR, no water at all but remaining possessions stay dry. Left hanging. I would have been MUCH happier knowing they couldn’t make it when promised. We’ve been through too much already! Just common courtesy would go a LONG WAY! But wait, what’s that? Recently, extensive renovations on my home required plumbing services. All toilets and sinks were leaking due to corroded pipes caused by hard water!!! Upon further inspection, it was clear ALL copper pipes and connections were badly affected. Also, Culligan's customer service, from home office to local office is deplorable. When I tried to resolve a billing/delivery issue, I was left dissatisfied. Culligan deserves a zero star rating...but I had to choose.

I have had a Culligan Water Softener for 8 years now. The original system required replacement after 4yrs, and now after 8yrs, the control valve has stopped working. I diagnosed the failure this time myself, since the last time Culligan visited my home, it was an example of incompetent field service. I had to call Culligan head office to motivate proper service. I have no complaints about head-office staff! Head-office is responsive and gets the job done.

This time, I texted the office admin photos of the replacement parts I needed before arriving. I was told they had one in stock and would put it on hold for me. Different story when I actually arrived. On pricing the replacement control valve assembly, the admin punched some numbers into a calculator, and two of them stared at it for ~20sec, before one of them said it was a non-negotiable $560. That was after the admin said it would be $271.33 in the text message, and the parts guy said it was around $1400. Finally, do not expect more than 4yrs of service from the controls valve assembly (Gold or Platinum series). If Culligan decides to contradict my account, I have the text messages to back up my account.

We purchased a Culligan whole house system w/ osmosis 13 years ago. No problems until about 1 yr ago. I called, they came out and "fixed" it in October 2017. Then, the system still wasn't "fixed" correctly. I called them back. We had no water pressure. I called the county for a pressure test and from the street to my home it was good. Culligan came out again in January 23, 2019 and I explained about no pressure. I was told by the "knowledgeable" tech to bypass the system. After paying over $6000, I cannot use my system? Give me a break. I was also told that to enter my house, I had to pay $140. Not going to happen. I paid $90.

I was told that the lining had worn out. They took my tank and had it for 3 weeks and finally scheduled a return visit for installation in one more week. On the day of the scheduled visit, no one called me. I waited all day and finally called them. I was told during several phone calls: "the installation won't be today, it was on the truck that got stuck in the snow", "it is in our warehouse and never was on the truck" and was told it would be the following Friday for reinstallation which would be another week of no soft water.

I finally went to Culligan, asking for a manager. I became unglued on them. They scheduled a delivery date for Monday. Two men brought it out and reinstalled it. It was fine until Wednesday when my husband saw standing water next to the tank. He opened the electrical board and water came pouring out. That's just dandy!! I called the manager again about this problem. A tech showed up and told me he could bypass the salt sensor and we "didn't need it anyway. My question: "Why is it on there and shouldn't we just fix the problem instead of bypassing it?" I was interrupted and talked to like a toddler. I got angry and told him to fix it and fix it correctly. That made him mad.

The service people are extremely unprofessional. He came back the next afternoon, showed me a beige wire and explained that the sensor wire had been changed from the beige one to the "new" black one and it was fixed." As he went out the door, he called me a ** under his breath. This was late Thursday and I was told I would have to pay for the visit... Not on your life was I paying a dime. On Saturday, no water in the brine tank and no water from the reverse osmosis faucet. I called and was told that the actual service manager would come to repair it tomorrow morning. We will see. Do NOT BUY A CULLIGAN!!!

We pay $115 per month for a rental softener system and a bimonthly salt delivery. In early March of 2017, our Culligan man came to deliver the 10 bags salt. He carried them through to our tank and stacked them one on top of the other. I did not follow him back to the tank and did not see this precariously tilting tower of bags.

The next day we discovered that this pile of salt bags had fallen over and into one of the water pipes connected to the tank and had caused the storage room to flood, damaging many of our belongings. The water had also seeped into the carpeting of our rec room. I called Culligan and they sent a repairman to fix the pipe. They came to take pictures and assured us they would be in touch. That was the last communication we received regarding the flooding. I have since called and described this incident to several customer service representatives, each assuring me someone will be contacting me regarding this issue, but over a year has passed and we have yet to have this issue acknowledged by Culligan.

It was said that on 15th of May the office would call to set up a time and date for the installation of the new box... Until the 4th of June, it was pure silence on Culligan part. Meanwhile we made the decision that enough was enough and that their negligence of not establishing communication was unacceptable. I called and got Culligan out of their torpor and demanded removal of the unit.

I got connected to Rob ** who listened to my grievance and in a very gentle and compassionate manner said he would ask his GM to contact me. The GM (Russ) started to use a salesman pitch telling me how the internal affairs at Culligan, recently, had taken a toll on Culligan's good will. Needless to say that I shared with him that we all have internal stress not depriving us to function and address the needs presented to us. He got annoyed with my request and my determination to have it put to execution. He then got very short and that was the end of the conversation and he agreed to have the unit removed omitting to tell me when! At 3:30 pm that day, a technician took care of the problem and that was it (all of a sudden Culligan had recover its efficiency!) The GM never had the courtesy to tell me how the refund would be handled etc...

So, contacted Culligan and asked to talk to Rob ** and with his equal gentleness and graciousness, he informed himself of the procedure for refunds. He excused himself for being not aware of financial procedures in a case like ours, being a salesperson. In my case, Mr ** and the technicians involved put some balm on a bitter experience with Culligan and the less than pleasant rapport with Culligan GM.

Imagine further that the company you chose DOES NOT allow for transferring the balance. OUCH! Welcome to the world of the Culligan customer.

One of the more expensive filtration options across the spectrum and you're stuck with the remaining balance to either leave it in the home or remove the equipment to bring with you when you move. Well that is special - paying for equipment you won't even benefit from. If it is too late, be sure to tell your Realtor so that you may account for the remaining balance in your NET sheet. I had the salesman come to my house and we talked about what I was spending in bottle water and how by purchasing the system I would be cheaper in the long run to get an RO system and I would not have to mess with bottles anymore. The only truth was about the bottles. He told me the filters should last about a year and they would be about 150 annually. He did not add that every other year it would be over $400. I think you should get an RO system but do not buy from Culligan. Find a system that you can buy the replacement cartridges online from multiple vendors. Otherwise Culligan will rip you off for the price of them. Similar cartridges I have found online are almost half the cost and filtration is very similar.

They also did not know what they were doing. Within a couple months the system was having issues. After making them come look at it I found out that we had low water pressure and they wanted over $400 to sell me a device that fixed the problem. I paid a plumber less than $100 to do the same thing and it fixed the whole house not just RO system. After that they told me the low water pressure caused the filters to go bad. And made me pay for new ones. I asked them what the pressure was when they installed it and asked if they could provide documentation of testing it. They said they would have tested it and documented but could not find it. I reminded them that legally if they did not document it then it did not happen. I will never buy from them again.

I have no knowledge of what artificially softened water is or how it worked, but I learned the hard way very quickly. I relied heavily on Culligan's "expertise" or lack thereof, and we paid a heavy price for it. The first thing that they did, was hook up our entire house to the softener system. I found out recently that our kitchen faucet should not have been attached to this system; had they not done this, there would have been no problems. They assured us that the water was ok for us to drink, and that it would be ok for our fish. One of our 4 winter koi tanks is in our dining room, we have to do their water changes from our kitchen sink. The first time we did a water change, our fish started flashing and becoming visibly irritated the next day. Not realizing that the water was the problem, we did several more water changes, only accelerating their conditions.

After losing several fish, we put them in a hospital tank near our other fish, but it was too late. One by one, they kept perishing. My 3 year old who loves our fish dearly would keep running up to tell us as they died, that another fishy stopped talking to her. In total we lost 12 Koi. Our large Shubunkin goldfish has been on death's door for over two weeks, but somehow is still clinging to life. It took us months to locate these fish, and some of them were imported from Japan, and cost hundreds of dollars to purchase and have shipped to us. When I spoke to Dane and Jeff with Culligan, they seemed unimpressed, and did not care that this had happened to us, and refused to compensate our losses due to their lack of knowledge of their own system. Removal of their system was promptly requested after this.

Called for service, I have had the system for 8 years, two man came out, for a simple o-ring changing because of a leak. They drained all the i-non resin out of the system because of poor workmanship. They did not replace the tubing in the tank at the right depth, causing the resin to drain out onto ground, call, came back wanted $600.00 to replace resin. After some back and forth, they came out again and fix the system, but after a time water was bad the cycle timer was not working, and they sent me a bill for $325.00 for parts and service, and I had bought the new resin myself. I have sent the company emails and called and talked to their parent company service people, and today no call by dealer. THIS IS A SECOND RATE COMPANY AT BEST, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THEM. I AM GOING TO REPLACE MY SYSTEM WITH ONE THAT WORKS... This dealer is in Brownwood Texas.

My family moved into a new home with a well system. I contacted Culligan to price a water treatment system thinking they are a very well known and reputable company. We were immediately contacted by a salesman in the Tampa office. The salesman Lee initially came the wrong day and then the wrong time the next day but that was no issue for us. The presentation was good and the salesman presented himself well. He explained he had worked for Culligan for over 20 hours, this was his only job and he presented himself very knowledgeable. My husband and I decided we would get the system although it did appear to be quite expensive.

A quote for a water softener, reverse osmosis system, and a sulfur clear system came to approximately $8500. My husband signed a contract but it did state that we could cancel within three business days. By the next day we decided that we were going to cancel before the system was even installed. My husband called the office and they canceled the installation and said it was no problem. However my husband then got a call from the salesman Lee threatening that we had signed a contract and it was legally binding. He continued to say that there was no way to get out of the contract and the three day did not apply in our situation. He threatened that our credit would be negatively affected and if we didn't install the system we would still owe $8500.

The salesman then called myself and continue to threaten me. He even called the installation crew and told them to go ahead and install the system even though we had canceled. Luckily I got home and was able to get the installation canceled but they had already started to take apart my system. The salesman got angry over the phone, continued to threaten and try to bully us into continuing with the insulation and then eventually hung up on me.

The next day I contacted Culligan and did receive a call back from the director of operations who had assured me that we did not owe any money and we had canceled within the allowed amount of time. What would've happened if I didn't get home in time and the system was installed in my house after I had said to cancel? What if I would have believed that I couldn't get out of the contract? I don't know but I want to make sure other people don't get bullied into buying a system they are still within the legal amount of time to cancel. I'm not sure if this is how they do business or get sales but to try to bully and manipulate customers into a product is unethical and unprofessional!

When no one showed up to change them. I found out the information I was given was not true. After that date, none of my exchanges were done at the scheduled time if the representative even showed up. I was never given a courtesy call to inform me that they were unable to come.

After, working for a month to get a standing appointment there have still been problems. I received a voicemail at 5 am from the fill in representative telling me that his regular route was too far from my home to make it. I finally decided to disconnect my service and ended up in a debate with the customer service representative who stated someone came to my house but couldn't get in. If it wasn't for the voicemail I had from the tech saying he wasn't coming they may have been able to use that as an excuse.

I have had a Culligan softener and a reverse osmosis drinking water system installed at my last two homes. As of 2017 I've had a total of 27 years of experience with the company and their products. I've never had a significant problem with the company or its products. At my older home the salesman explained that their monthly service is not something I need. It meets the needs of seniors and others who find it inconvenient to purchase and transport the heavy salt bags necessary to softener operation. I've had each system maintained every year or two, costing $100-200. In 27 years, the software has failed once. It cost something over $100 to return it to service.

If I were to purchase another home I'd call Culligan again. Based on my experience I have recommended Culligan to others and I will continue to do so. To my knowledge, neither I nor any member of my family and no friend or co-worker has worked for or with Culligan or had any other sort of business relationship with Culligan. Even after ditching 3-4 full tank. For filters that costs close to $250 I think Culligan should do some research. I don't trust what I have been drinking so far. Most likely carbon. Outrageously expensive for services not provided: $690 - the cost to purchase your own, high-quality softener and RO filtration plus 1 year of filters and salt. $5,770 - the cost of a 3-year contract with Culligan to rent their basic softener and RO filtration with "service". This cost does not include filters, salt, or salt delivery. BEWARE of these criminals! I signed a three-year contract with Culligan for a water softener and reverse osmosis drinking water filter because I didn't know any better and didn't do research. And truthfully, I had always thought of Culligan as a trusted name.

First off, who requires a three-year contract? That is way too long and too many variables for both parties to follow through on. Culligan didn't fulfill their end of the contract and I canceled 18 months into it after many negative experiences dealing with failed equipment, shotty service, poor water quality, and endless frustrations. I ended up purchasing my own equipment for 1/6 the cost of what the entire contract would have cost me. I'm still negotiating the early cancellation with them. They refuse to release me from the contract even though I have multiple proofs that they didn't fulfill their end of the contract. I will be filing a claim with the BBB.

I should have know right away when the salesman said he would come back and test our water a week or so after installation to show us the difference and never showed. He also said he would come back and clean our fixtures as the change would make our water dirty with sediment. This also didn't happen. In fact, I never saw the salesman again.

On more than one occasion I had to call Culligan because my softener stopped running and displayed an error message to call Culligan. Both times when I called (one time I even got a former employee who no longer worked there) they directed me to cancel out the error message, which prompted the softer to run. Neither time did I get a visit to my house, and both times left my water tasting and feeling rusty and hard.

I've had to call multiple times for salt delivery that was supposed to happen automatically but didn't (which I was also charged separately for, in addition to my monthly bill). The workers always came into my house without removing their shoes when nobody was home leaving tracks on my floors and carpet. On one occasion they left my softener unplugged! I wouldn't have noticed it, but my boyfriend fortunately did and plugged it back in a few days after their visit. In 18 months my reverse osmosis filters were not changed, not even one time. My water and ice tasted like prescription medication.

Do your research before you call these crooks. I purchased a brand new water softener with a higher grain count, and a brand new reverse osmosis filtration system with more cycles, including alkalization. My water tastes so much better since purchasing my own equipment, plus I own it instead of renting. With the purchase of the improved softener, higher quality RO filtration, and filters for a year I have paid LESS than I did renting from Culligan for 6 MONTHS!!!

Beware of their salesmen and what they say. He convinced me with promises that never came to fruition. The amount of money they charge for this service and equipment rental is criminal. I wish I had done more research before I signed a contract with them. Don't make the same mistake I did. They all drive fancy cars for a reason. You will be over charged and underserved.

By then I decided I didn't want it anymore. When he got here I told him that. He went to the basement did something to it and left. It still did not work. He told me he would have talk with a manager. He finally came back and took the tank and left. He did not restore the water heater nor the refrigerator flooring that he put a hole in back to the way it was.

Moving forward to now we go out of town for a week, we get back and the water heater is no longer working. The builder came out and said he could touch it because it was not equipment that came with the home. The water has been leaking this whole time with no emergency fix. This is unacceptable. I need everything taken off that was installed. The piping and the plastic tube running through a hole you all made in my floor under the refrigerator. I need everything restored back to the way it was before the faulty install. That way the builder can fix everything because the house is still under warranty. He said once you all take out the bad equipment the leak will be fixed and he can assess any damage to the water heater caused by the faulty install and removal. I would also like to be compensated for the water bill and the water damage to my home and water heater. We are still without hot water right now. The water is still leaking right now.

Culligan of Kansas City is rife with incompetence. In April 2014 my old water softener died after 15 years of faithful service. About 35 years ago I rented a Culligan water softener in Illinois and was very satisfied with them so I decided to "upgrade" to a Culligan water softener. I didn't pay attention to how the guy installed it because I figured that Culligan would do a good job. Not so much! The guy was plumbing the softener into a 3/4 inch line but he reduced it down to a 1/2 inch line with some shark bite fittings and pex connections. There was a 1/2 inch elbow on each of the lines, then more fittings to take it back up to 1 inch to attach to the water softener head. So, what this does is to reduce the flow of water in my entire house (except for the one outside faucet that is not softened water). I don't know if he just didn't have 3/4 inch elbows on his truck or what.

Fast forward one month. Culligan billed me for $2304.45 and said I was a month overdue! I had financed the installation through Culligan with Foundation Finance and was paying Foundation $407.12 a month so that I could get it paid off within 6 months for their "no interest" offer but their billing office was still billing me for the whole amount.

Now fast forward to February 2016. This thing runs its regeneration cycle at 2 am and it takes just under 2 hours to run. At 5:00 am the thing was still running water down my drain. It was stuck on one of the back washes and giving an error code 1. It was only 1 year and 9 months old! My old no-name water softener lasted 15 years! The Culligan guy came out and really didn't know what was wrong with the thing. He ended up replacing the circuit board. (I argued vehemently with this guy when he wanted to charge me for this and ultimately I was not charged.)

Fast forward 10 months to Christmas morning 2016. I woke up at 4:00 am to the sound of running water! The water softener was again stuck in one of its back flushes and was running water down the drain. It had an error code 1. I unplugged it and put it on bypass to stop the water from running down the drain. A few hours later I plugged it back in but it did not reset and got an error code of 4 so I unplugged until that evening. When I plugged it back in it reset and did another regeneration. Meanwhile I had to use water so I have a water heater tank full of hard water. Culligan wants another $175 to just come out here. Their warranty on the board is 5 years and on the control valve is 10 years but it costs $175 for them to come out each time.

It is now February 2017 and this thing has done the same thing of getting stuck on a back flush and giving an error code 1. It has done this twice since December! Apparently Culligan equipment is not what it used to be and Culligan service is nothing like it used to be. It looks like I am going to have to replace this thing -- probably with a Fleck. All Culligan parts a proprietary so there is no way to buy parts for this thing and I could buy Fleck parts at lots of places. I have to re-plumb this thing so I might as well plumb in a water softener that works.

First of all, a salesman named Harry told us stuff that was NOT true. Then this man asked us to pray for his grandkids and a huge custody fight. Obviously if it were not true how would we know about it? He then said he can remove the price for salt if we did that. And he didn't do that. Then we got a new house and instead of putting in the small faucet as they were too lazy to do, it's what we always had and always used and wanted, and instead we got this little black thing that when we push it, some infrared thing makes water come out. Ok, this little black thing rarely worked. Hardly ever.

Then some batteries leaked in it and when we told Peggy, this worthless person could not even help us and send someone out. We got totally ripped off and we are seeking legal action on this fly by night company and operators. We gave them several chances and Harry using his grandkids as ploys also has gotten DSS involved. That is sick. And asking for prayers in return to get no charge on salt. Again sick. And a lie. I called the office and spoke to one of their employees. She wasn't nice at all and start questioning if we clean our cooler. I told her we clean our cooler between each bottle and I know better that that. I asked them to come and take their bottle and refund my account but they said they will come and pick it up next week. Anyway we tried to check the second bottle but it has the same particle in it. This place is disgusting and it is so sad that this company profit from people and not provide the services paid for. It makes you wonder where is this water coming from. STAY away from this company.

We signed a contract with this company and regret the contract from day one. Very Poor service, no salt delivery on time and you will not return phone calls in a timely manner. We are very unhappy! We are renting a water softener from Culligan in New Port Richey Florida since May 07 2015 and I am extremely disappointed to strongly not recommend this company anymore.

On May 6th 2016 my salt delivery didn't come again as scheduled. This has been happening since day one. They never deliver the salt on time before the tank gets empty. I called in and was told there was a note left at my door and that there was no answer at my home phone but they did not bother calling my cell phone or leaving the salt at my front door. I was then told that they needed to make a change and would have my salt out in June!!! I asked them to let me know if they are interested in serving me or losing me as a customer? I do not want to see my tank empty from salt anymore so I strongly recommend that they do not make the same mistake again by not delivering my salt or they lose me from a customer.

A $400 repair on pipes was required two years ago. About six months ago the system stopped working. $200 repair, still didn't work, but we paid monthly fees for brown or heavily salted water. They just came back yesterday, leaving a mess of watery salt slush that I never saw in the tank before. We're ready to disconnect and cancel their business. We used the rental system because we were told that they would update the system regularly if there were new upgrades. This NEVER happened. We were told they would come out once a year and replace all filters and do a basic check on the system. This NEVER happened. We began having leaking issues and loud beeping issues. Their response was to make an appointment 9-10 days later. This is not acceptable. We had no refrigerator water and no ice. We were able to get that annoying beeping to stop by turning the system off. This is not what we consider customer service. We were able to find a replacement company, however, if anyone damaged the equipment in any way, we would be responsible for the equipment. We paid about 44 per month for the rental of this product.

Just as a note of interest, at that price someone would have paid the purchase off within 10 months, based on quotes from several other companies for the same product. Ironically, they got their 9-10 days to respond to us anyway because they scheduled the person removing the unit the same amount of time out. Once the unit was in, the helpfulness of the office staff with this issue was completely unsatisfactory. I am not looking for anything back from this review. I just felt I could at least make others aware of this company's record with us. Buyer Beware. PS. We originally used them because of their well-known name... not a mistake we will make again. Their name means little when it comes to customer service.

Within about 60 days we discovered that the water softener was broken and it was draining water like crazy and I made three service calls to Culligan and no one returned my call.

We bypassed the water softener to avoid water waste. But the damage was already done and we ended up with about $1,300 water bills for about 60+ days. Our water usage is typically about $70 per month. Culligan refused to accept any responsibility for this incident and refused to reimburse me the damage they have caused. Showed me I had Iron in my water and then went on to tell me my system was not working at all. He turned off the water bypass to the softener and said I should make an appointment to have a new one quoted. Which I set up. Then call another company for a second opinion. Right after shutting off the water to the bypass I notice a stronger smell and my water became very hard, telling me my system was indeed working.

He explained Culligan's tactics, do not work on other units, only replace. I called Culligan and cancelled my appointment and told them what happened and all they could say is bad service call and they would talk to the manager, and I paid $40.00 for this experience. When Culligan came out to look at the old unit we had hoped to install a pre-filter unit to remove the iron etc. and were advised that our unit was beyond updating. We agreed due to the fact that it was 20 years old and purchased a new combination unit that was supposed to use less salt, had a pre-filter and would solve our water conditions. After completing our renovation which included every fixture in all the bathrooms, kitchen and laundry room we now have orange (iron) seeping through which is very disappointing to say the least. We told him the HOA exterior requirements and our interior installation requirements for our zero lot line patio home. He said all of those requirements would be met. He said we could get a complete refund within 30 days if we were not satisfied. We put down a $500 deposit on our credit card. The installation violated the HOA guidelines and our requirements. The reverse osmosis failed within 2 hours of the installer leaving. I called and communicated this to a phone operator and he assured me someone would contact me. I contacted the salesman regarding the RO and installation problems. He assured me an installation supervisor would contact me. A HOA committee member stopped by our house, took pictures of the exterior and told us we were in violation to HOA guidelines.

I called Culligan and the gatekeeper took my complaints and told me the service manager was not at his desk. A second call to the service manager was taken later that day. I told him to remove both units and he referred me to the general manager. He told me that there was communication problem and that no water company could install to our requirements. He agreed to take back both units. It took 10 days for removal of both units. I had to file a complaint with my credit card company to receive a refund of my deposit. I networked with independent local watermen. We found a local independent waterman who exceeded our expectations for half of the Culligan price. He found a potential water leak left by the plumber who removed the RO system. Look for a local independent waterman because Culligan locations are franchises and quality varies.

We have a well and planned on staying at this house so we wanted to make sure we had the one of the best systems we could get in the area. We got a Culligan. The salesman was kind and helpful. The installation went well. But we immediately had issues with the unit not softening our water. The salesman came back many times on his own (as a courtesy) and made adjustments. We never did really get a full resolution, though. We called to have service come out and look at it, but now we were past 90 days so there would be a fee.

A manager overrode and sent a guy out. He said it was working great. 6 months later our dishwasher corroded out. We contacted Culligan and they tried to give us over the phone assistance. A serviceman was $149 just to come out. We made the adjustments but it still didn't feel like the water was softening. We did a water test and it was hard. They told us to bump up some salt settings. We maxed it out and it helped a little. Over the years we have tried to adjust or consult others on our issues.

Our new dishwasher (stainless steel) started getting full of hard water in March of this year. We checked and it looked like the salt was going down but very slowly. We were going through 3 bags a month at this time and it had been 5 weeks and only half the salt was gone. We checked for damming and regenerated many times. Consulted the troubleshooting and spent countless hours trying everything to no avail. Finally paid $149 to get a service man out. There was a bad valve. He said they go bad after a few years! $400 later we were up and running. That was in April. Now we are in October and we have hard water again. They will not come out and check anything unless we pay another $149 trip charge because there is only a 90-day warranty on the last repair! I am beyond frustrated with this company and their policy.

There was a $400 Sears water heater in this house for 22 years and never had an issue until the day it died. We have had nothing but issues with this Culligan! I will never buy from them again, and am most likely going to toss this water heater and buy a cheap one that works. For the amount of money that has gone into this piece of equipment and the troubles we have had over the last 6 years, I would think that someone over there would care enough about their company reputation and customer service to make a courtesy trip out to correct our issues. I personally feel this unit has never worked properly and we were scammed.

Left two messages, he never called me back. Spoke to another rep who installs systems in the homes and he said he would call me back about that option, never did.

Finally accepted that they were not interested in serving me or losing me as a customer so I wrote a letter and sent it by mail asking them to pick up their empty bottles (which I should receive my deposit back for) and close my account. That was two weeks ago and I haven't heard from them and the bottles were still on my deck until last night when I dealt with the bottles myself. I looked online to find the supervisor or the area manager so I could get some accountability for such terrible service, but I didn't find who that would be. Now I have installed an under the counter system for $300 from another company and in the process found out that reverse osmosis filtration is not so great after all. This is really poor quality. Warranty is over, I called them and service call is about 160, and 40 more per each half an hour after first half hour. Alternatively, for future repairs (not this one), I can buy a service plan for 25 per month and then I won't have to pay for repairs. This is 300 per year. I believe it is a total ripoff. I paid 2700 for this system and it worked just little over one year, and now I will have to pay I don't know how much. When looked the letter I called immediately to office, they kept 20 mins on the line saying we are talking with technician, finally came back saying the technician in your area we will come back. He never showed up.

I had to call them again for appointment again 20 days. When I called 2nd time I had an argument with customer care guy if this type of service I need to cancel, finally we agreed to appointment after 20 days. This time person came to take out the equipment. Again I called asking for new appointment and again 20days. I don't know when I am going to get my appointment. I forgot to tell one more thing, 6 months back there was leak from drinking water filter. They gave appointment after 3 days. I have purchased the water from outside on those 3 days.

Usually when we have issues with our softener it takes at least a week for them to come out. This time approximately 1 month ago we were having trouble, when they came out a part was replaced. The water was soft off and on. We then called them again, well another person showed up stating something was missed. It still was not better about a week later - they were called again. They again showed up again and stated it was something else that is guaranteed. He stated he would come back on Friday. We get a call on Friday from the office stating that a catastrophe had occurred and he would not be able to take care of us until Monday. The major issue is that they never show when they say, if you say you're going to show call and explain hence customer service.

The cost is outrageous. Yes we live in an area with horrible water. If you do not have workers for your business maybe you should hire more people. Don't promise that you are going to show and do the work the first visit. Make sure it is working when you leave. I will never recommend them to anyone. Horrible service.

We have ran out of water every single month and when we tell the driver to leave us more water, he is always super rude, like if he was giving us the water for free. The card expired and instead of contacting us via telephone to ask if we have a new card, Culligan sends a nasty final notice letter that they are sending our account to collections. We paid for whole home water softener. I was very clear that my primary issue was hard water spots on my dishes and bathroom fixtures. I was assured I would be happy with results. The water spots never got any better. I called to complain and the first year was told it would take a while for the old stuff to be washed out of the pipes. The second year they came, tested and informed me the spots were from minerals in the water that water softeners didn't affect. What was the point. I felt like I got the runaround, wasted money and never solved my issue. I was happy with the RO unit under the sink. However, the customer service has gone steadily downhill over the last 5 years. They send out printed cards then tell me the availability is different than what is printed on card. I tell them I work 7:30-5:30 weekdays, they say they only work on weekdays so can't accommodate my need to have service on weekend. AVOID CULLIGAN.

The contract I signed stated the salt would be checked and added by Culligan as required. The only time they came was after several phone calls/complaints. Not only that they set the system to regenerate way too much too soon which burned 60 lbs. of salt they delivered in less than 2 weeks. Not only that but they improperly installed the unit. When the tank regenerates it drains out a briny water discharge which should be hooked up to a drain-- they just ran a hose on the ground which killed all my grass where the drain hose was. All this and still want to charge me for the system -even when they admitted when there's no salt in the tank- the system will not work. I finally asked them to remove their equipment which they did- but they want me to pay for no service whatsoever. Buyer Beware of this Company!

After 3 calls to Culligan service before they called back I found out the 10 year warranty for the circuit board and valve assembly excluded internal parts and they now only make two parts for that model. Bottom line they recommended a new one for 2500 dollars. The warranty was basically worthless. I was shocked that a warranty for any assembly excludes the parts in the assembly.

Here at Culligan you can only RENT (maybe buy it for double the price than in retail stores) and it's never yours, you end up paying $5k instead of $1k! Am I a charity? Other things made me mad is he promised water testing, it's a scam too! He told me our water was hard meanwhile it is NOT (we got it tested by another company) and he tried to convince me that my plants will love soft water, how?! Softener creates more salt hence plants/lawn kick the bucket as salt kills plants. Oh and they also forgot to let us know RO system will waste water as for every liter cleaned, 5 litres are wasted = water bill will be 4-5 x times more! (Mine is $100 MONTH ALREADY)

And since they are so shady I'm sure I wouldn't get a cent back after I pay upfront or sign a contract (they put you into bad credit if you refuse to rent it anymore). I really hate someone tries to trick us selling something we don't need (softener). I am happy to say that our problems with Culligan in Indy have finally been resolved! What it took was to speak directly to the owner/manager. I learned that he was a good person and that he was also frustrated to learn of my difficulties. He stuck with me until both our RO and our softener were working properly. In fact, he even provided a new RO at no cost to me.

Of course, now I do realize that my original RO had never worked correctly from the day I purchased it and it was installed. The repairs took several service calls and appointments of over a month and a half.

The reason it took so many calls was because most of the servicemen either didn't know what they were doing or they always took the first easy way out solution they could, thereby never fixing the real problems. The owner/manager reimbursed me for one bad service call and did not charge me anything for the service calls required to finally get everything working.

Indianapolis Culligan serviceman replaces an expensive part he says is needed. He does sloppy work and forgets to tighten a screw (charge over $221.00). Softener quits working within a couple of months. Woman answering the phone at Culligan tells us that our motor is now out and it will cost well over $249.00 to repair. We couldn't afford this so we shut the softener down. A few months later, we scheduled a service appointment for repairs. Culligan charged us over $120 to have their serviceman screw in a screw that the first serviceman forgot. Culligan also changed a part without asking us and without leaving the old part. Softener is using way too much salt and runs every day for 109 minutes. Culligan will come out for $89 plus a fuel surcharge just to look at the machine. Any work done on the machine will be extra.

The same Culligan franchise also sold us our reverse osmosis unit. We purchased a new unit but were given a water tank that had rust on the bottom and the plumbing leaked after the serviceman left. Brand new house and no other plumbing has ever leaked. Tank is supposed to be under warranty, but Culligan doesn't want to replace it. We have also spent hundreds of dollars having repairs done and filters replaced on this "new" unit. Receptionists are rude - maybe because of all the angry customers. The "new" water softener tank also leaked immediately after it was installed. Serviceman also refused to sanitize our reverse osmosis during service call even though owner's manual says it needs to be done.

We had Culligan in Los Angeles and never had any of these problems. I think it is the Indianapolis franchise that is pulling some bad stuff. My advice - RUN from Culligan in Indy! I forgot to mention that on receipts (that I had to request from their office after the work was done), I saw that someone was signing for us in the customer signature space. We sure didn't! And it is definitely not the handwriting of my husband or me.

Each time in town, we complain the service that expensive machine's panel shows "contact service" and the brand new defective softener has at times used a full bag of salt in a single 24 hour period. The actual service tech seems to be OK but everyone else could care less if their system works for us or not. We suggested they pick up their defective equipment and reimburse us but since it was a few days over the 90-day return policy, all they would say is "you signed a contract!”

Today a third party installer showed up at my home to install the water softener. I let the gentleman into my home, showed him the laundry room and where I wanted the softener placed and how I wanted the pipes installed. I left the man and his accomplice to start the install. After 15 minutes or so I went to check up on their progress. To my amazement, the pipes were installed outside the studs (wall). I told the installer to rip it all out and start again. Thinking the man understood, I left them to their devices and within another 15 minutes they informed me that the job was complete. I wish I could show you all the piss poor install job. They installed the water pipes smack tight against the wall socket for the washer and dryer, the Brine dispenser out in front of the washer. The installers left and I was forced to empty the Brine and move it behind the main unit.

I was so miffed at this point, I called the office. Conveniently the salesman Matt and his boss were not available. Nor did they return any of my calls or emails. So on top of the $2300.00 I'll now have to shell out for a plumber to come and fix this blunder. I'm guessing with this lack of responsibility and poor customer service. A few of my neighbors have Kinetico units connected to the same water supply (Community Well) and have not had any service calls.

As a point of reference I've owned Culligan units in two other homes that I owned and over the combined 8 yrs, I owned them I never had a service call. It's a shame to see the deterioration of both quality and service at Culligan. I've tried contacting their corporate office several times and they direct all calls back to the local Franchisee. What a great way to stand behind your product!

The system is not operating again as of 11/22/2014 which is ~2.5 months after the last service. Although the repairman is nice and always shows up as expected, I should not have to see him on a regular basis! So, for the 6 years I've had the unit I've paid > $650 dollars for those 5 repairs and now have to make another repair call. I'll be sure to update this review after my next visit which I will schedule today.

This is pretty bad as this is my 5th home and 3rd Culligan unit and I never experienced not one service call on the other two units over the combined ~8 yrs I owned them. We were told they would duplicate the system we had at the front house for the guest house. (We paid $2899. for water softener, aerator and pump. We have the Gold system put in two years ago.) He called the office for the price and they said we paid $3199. I did not look up the statement until the next day. But, I thought the increase in price was acceptable due to cost of living and product etc.

They came out the next day and installed the water softener, no aerator or pump and charged us $3199 which I put on a credit card, thankfully! The sales rep ignored our calls for answers. When I insisted on a General Manager, I was told the Gold System is not made anymore (it still appears on the national Culligan website) and they installed the new HE system and it cost $3199. No credit or consideration for not putting in aerator etc. I had my credit card account hold payment! How can we have all new components for $2899 and just the water softener cost $3199? We put three calls into salesman and was totally ignored. I finally asked to speak to a General Manager. What a cold and indifferent and I don't care attitude. His offer was to remove the HE and put a lower model in for $2100. I am very tired of salespeople playing good guy/bad guy scenarios as was pulled on us. We like our Culligan system but the lack of honesty and price playing is not acceptable. We will not deal with Culligan anymore. It is shame that the local franchises can spoil the reputation of a good company. They should be held to a higher standard.

We purchased a 2005 home in 2013. The home had a Culligan Gold Series Automatic Water Conditioner. 1st major leak was August 2, 2013, which was the o-ring. 2nd leak on 2-14 & replaced bypass equipment. Continued to leak and determined it must be a fleck of sand. 3rd leak was 4-14. Repairman came out multiple times & finally diagnosed a problem at the base of the tank and redid the base. Previous owner replaced the tank unit March 29, 2011.

Culligan website claims: No matter the product, your local Culligan Man can service and repair any brand of water softener, water filter system, or drinking water system & Culligans 75 years of home water treatment experience means you get some of the most advanced, state-of-the-art water softening technology. I called for service due to a continuing pumping action that would not stop. First day, the serviceman charged me for a new part. I was never given any proof that there was a new part put in. In a matter of hours, I had to call for service again for the same problem. The new part did not fix the problem. After waiting for an hour for the problem to be fixed, I went outside to look for myself. In a matter of minutes, I could easily figure out what the problem was and I fixed it. The tubing had slipped to the bottom of the tank where it was picking up particles and blocking the filter. The next thing I knew, I received a bill to close to $500.00 for parts and services. I called to complain but said I couldn't afford to pay the bill all at once but could send them $25.00 a month until it was paid. This is exactly what I have been sending them each month. Then I received notice they had turned my account over to a collection agency. As far as I can see, I was charged for a part that may or may not have been replace, and for service that was never done right. To me this is a possible Fraud on their part.

Several years ago, we had contacted Culligan for quote on water system for our home. We met with a nice salesman that assured us that our high salt demand "would be no problem at all". Later, we started having delivery issues, wrong dates, broken promises etc. Repeated calls to the office led to no resolution. I was forced to buy my own salt to keep my softener in operation. When presented with bill for 2 months service (44.00), we informed them about the need for us to buy our own salt for our machine even though we were on a program. We informed them that we needed to be reimbursed for the salt we were forced to purchase. They agreed if we could provide them with receipt. Unfortunately, a receipt was not available. Then they sent us to collections! When I disputed the bill, they added 80 more dollars to the bill and resent it to collections. They refuse to talk to me, refuse to make things right. BTW, their machines are junk, cheap, overpriced plastic. We are now at an impasse and even their corporate office will not help us. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!

My husband and I bought a Culligan Sulfur Clear System and Water Softener 5 years ago with a standard 5-year warranty. Last year a piston went out on the Sulfur Clear System which caused continuous water flow. This in turn caused our sub pump to go bad. We called to get it repaired,. This part isn't covered under the 5-year warranty. How convenient. We paid for the replacement. It is now a year later and we are again having the same problem, so here goes another couple of hundred of dollars. We went with Culligan because we thought they had good products and were a reputable company. We were wrong. I wish we had the money to replace this system but we simply do not so now we are left with a shoddy product that is going to bleed us dry of money we don't have. I would not recommend anyone installing a Culligan water system as it seems they aren't made to last beyond their standard warranty.

In 2008 I had the misfortune of purchasing a reverse osmosis water system from Culligan. I say misfortune because I chose to finance the system through the company and the ensuing and still ongoing hassles associated with dealing with this company has turned me off ever dealing with a water company again. First of all, the system was supposed to cost $1200.00 and thus far the payments and interest have come to more than double that amount, all of that money for a system that had to be discarded some 5 years ago.

What they don't tell you upon purchase is that if you move you must pay to have the system taken out and pay again to have it installed at your new residence. They also don't mention that there is upkeep associated with such a system. You must change the filters once a year to the tune of $150.00 + the service call cost of an extra $300.00. How are we doing so far? To renegotiate the financing is an impossibility as Culligan sold off all of their accounts to an American company in 2010 as close as I can get from them and GE Money as they are so called are hardliners about any kind of refinancing.

The bottom line? Today I am still paying for a system that has long since lost it's usefulness and I have contacted Culligan several times and spoke to several of their "customer reps" to no avail. Avoid using this company like the plague as they will only bring you headaches and inferior equipment that will rapidly degrade and lose it's usefulness and you will be stuck paying for something that is obsolete. The good news is I am in my final year of payments and now have made it my mission to inform people and businesses to stay away from these nefarious rip off artists at all costs.

10-Year-old Culligan system digital board went blank (just a digital picture of a phone). Internet says, "Call Culligan", No problem. I call them and they come out and all that is needed is to "reset" the circuit board. Less than 5 minute fix , $80 service charge (which I have no problem with, they had to drive 30 miles /gas/time/etc.). After approximately 2 weeks, we notice our water getting hard. I make the usual trip down to the utility room in our finished basement and to my surprise I step onto soaking wet carpet.

The Culligan Softener is overflowing from the brine tank . I do have a floor drain in my utility room but the water was too much for the drain to handle and the water seeped out into my finished carpeted basement . I immediately bypass the Culligan Softener and call Culligan. They come out once again (another $80 just to show) and tell me a valve needed replaced. Very coincidental they were just here 2 weeks prior and now this? I accept their explanation & hire a cleaning service to get the water damage cleaned up. Well, $1194 later, my carpet/walls are dry and cleaned. I do have a $1000 deductible on my homeowner's insurance for those of you who were wondering. No need to turn in a claim for that amount of money.

Here comes the kicker and exclamation point. 2 more weeks after all this, I once again go to the basement because of hard water and my carpet is soaking wet again!!! Yes, again. I walk into the utility room and water is gushing out of the top of the resin tank!! Carpet destroyed this time and has to be replaced . I call Culligan and they come out and say that the resin tank had ruptured and needs replaced. I am sick by this point. I had carpet removed and new Kinetic water softener installed. I am out 1000s of dollars. Thinking of taking them to small claims court . I don't see how these 3 different repairs are not connected making CULLIGAN OF THE QUAD CITIES responsible .

At that time they said that the charge was to cover maintenance on the osmosis part of the system. So I ended up paying the annual charge then and for all subsequent years. This year I am renting my house out and have a PO Box where my mail is routed to me. I got my bill late and paid it promptly.

So I paid again and, again, a month later I had a credit for the amount of the bill. So I emailed Culligan customer service and got no response. When I called customer service I was told that the privilege program had been discontinued and that because I was late on my payment I was not eligible for continuing which is why they returned my payments. Our house had very hard water, so we called Culligan to get an estimate for installing a water softener in our house. The initial install went well, or so we thought. The gentleman who installed the unit was wonderful. However, several months after installation, my husband noticed that our unit was going through salt before the three-month delivery cycle. It was then that we discovered they did not bypass the unit. We had been unknowingly watering our lawn all summer with soft water! A bypass was supposed to have been performed upon the initial install, which is standard procedure and part of their initial bid.

We assumed that since this was an oversight on their part, it would be taken care of free of charge under the rental agreements. Instead, they blamed us on not requesting a bypass, and then charging us upwards of $500 to make the adjustments that were supposed to have been handled from the very beginning! We never would have been knowingly treating our lawn and trees to soft water, and we were insulted that they thought that it was our responsibility to request this.

This made me angry, considering the tech, himself, said he always bypasses systems so not to waste soft water on external uses. My husband and I felt that since they did not honor their original agreement, we shouldn't be responsible for any additional charges to fix the problem. It was then that Mark ** agreed to only charge us half, $250. Still disappointed, but willing to compromise, we agreed. After a very corny and cheap looking fix, we received our new bill, only to find no adjustments to the original agreed upon price.

I feel that the Bozeman Culligan Company is very dishonest and difficult to work with. We are refusing to pay anything other than the agreed $250, and now they are refusing service to us, even though we are continuing our monthly rental fees. In addition, his business ethics and customer service tactics are nothing short of dishonest. Also, we have had the unit for less than one year, and have already had issues with it not working properly. Thank goodness we didn't buy the unit outright! Very disappointed. I expected more from a big name company.

We signed up for a water conditioning system and installed drinking filtration system in November of 2009. We are renters and there was a previous system still in the garage. We received a $9.99 for the first three months promotion. Culligan began billing us immediately. A Culligan installation technician came to the house and supposedly set the system up and installed the water filter. The system did not work, so we called them back and let them know that the system was not working.

A technician showed up after 12 days and verified that the unit did not, in fact, work. Culligan did then credit the previous months and started the three-month clock again after the technician's visit. At this visit, the technician removed the existing unit, but did not replace the unit for another 6 weeks, although we were paying as if we had a working unit. My wife called on several occasions but this was never fully resolved. We got some upset over this ongoing battle to attempt to correct the error that finally we canceled service completely.

When the technician came to uninstall the system, he noted that the drinking water filter was never installed correctly and stated that he would call and take care of this as we should not be charged for it at all because it never could work correctly because it was not installed correctly. We then moved to another location without any additional contact from Culligan. Needless to say, Culligan sent my account to a collection agency claiming that I owed them $159. This is not the case.

Monthly service was $120 which they should have corrected for the 6 weeks that we paid and had no system, let alone the $39.99/month that the technician stated he would correct since the water filter was never installed correctly. The reality is, they should wind up refunding some of the monies that I have already paid. I didn't realize they believed that "we" owed them money until I was reviewing my credit report and noted a collection agency was now showing up on behalf of Culligan claiming this $159.

I called Culligan to resolve, which I thought should be an easy thing to do. The initial customer representative said there is nothing she could do as this mythical debt was sent to a collection agency. I told her that not only was it an invalid debt, but that Culligan should do what they said they would do, which was not charge me for the 6 weeks that we did not have the water conditioning system at all (time between removal of old non-working system and installation of new system) and refund the drinking water filtration costs since it was not installed correctly per the Culligan technician who stated he would ensure we were credited.

I then asked to speak to her supervisor, who said she would investigate and ultimately came back with the answer that there was nothing they can do and that I should discuss with the credit agency what had occurred. I am always amazed when a company that is the cause of the problem punts a problem that is theirs to solve.

My husband and I bought our Culligan system about four years ago. We signed the agreement at the time of purchase for the service and delivery of salt. This is $24.95 extra a month. Several times over the years, I've had to call because we have ran out of salt. That's really minor compared to the current issue. I will admit our well was very bad. The system has not worked properly since we purchased it but I knocked it up to the old well. We just had a new well drilled a month ago. The "sulfur clean" part of the system has not been working in since we called for service and after three calls, I finally talked to someone about coming out.

During the conversation, my husband told the service man we were again out of salt. He was told our delivery wasn't until the following Thursday, this being Tuesday. My husband stated we needed salt, so the delivery man said he would bring it. He came out two days later to fix the system. He, so called fixed the system but didn't bring salt. My husband called again for delivery and explained we couldn't drink the water because it was yellow and we needed salt tomorrow (Friday). We did get delivery of salt. They delivered 1 bag!

One week later, the sulfur clean system they fixed isn't working. The water is now gray and smells so bad. My husband called yesterday, 1/30/12 and asked for the manager and has left him three messages without response. We have $10,000 in our new well and the Culligan System and can't even drink the water. I took pictures of the iron water from two weeks ago and the gray water that we have now, in case anyone would like to see them. We would never buy a Culligan System again and if you're looking at them, run the other direction. Our salesman was great and told a lot of lies that Culligan hasn't stood behind. We have had the system serviced and fixed many other times during the years but this is what tops the cake.

My name is William ** a client of yours since I installed my first Culligan softener in 1969 (at Chatsworth Dr. Toronto). I acquired a second unit in 1973 (Dawlish Ave. Toronto) The third unit I had installed in 1976 at my present residence (address shown above). When the third unit had finally come to the end of its useful life of 33 years I bought my fourth Culligan softener which has been in service since March 6, 2009

I stuck with Culligan principally because of the excellent service and help I received during those 40 years. As you know I had the choice of many other softeners available, some at lower prices, but all based on the same chemical principles as yours but chose yours because of a long period of satisfaction.

When I acquired the new unit I realized that my capability for maintaining the computerized model were insufficient and hence at the time of purchase I signed up for your Privilege Program. With the old unit I was able to take care of minor repairs and call for help when major problems arose. By the time it was carted away almost the entire system had been replaced with spare parts with the exception of the salt container.

From the start in 2009 salt was delivered on 8 occasions as specified in the agreement but I was never advised as to the time or day of delivery - a rather off handed way to treat a client. As a consequence the six bags were dropped off beside the house on two or three of the visits. On the remaining five or six times the service consisted simply of carrying the salt to the unit and topping it up. I accompanied your truckers on each visit but none of them even looked at the equipment let alone fulfilled the agreed maintenance as specified in your pamphlets.

The pamphlets I refer to are the Moore Wallace Part 37156 and part 38001 given to me at the time of signing your agreement form #15636 with your representative Dave tel. **. The full name is not decipherable from his signature (as is mine). In fact no maintenance was done during the two years covered by the agreement although it periodic treatment is quite clearly specified in the pamphlet.

I cancelled the Program on February14, 2011 stating that none of the promised maintenance was carried out. None of my complaints and phone calls to your local offices have ever considered any sort of redress even to the point that I was told that I should take care of the maintenance or pay $125.00 for some one to come to my home to reprogram the control. As well, the Culligan representatives have volunteered to talk me through the reprogramming over the phone The alternative proposed by your representatives was that I should renew the Privilege Program and that this time the specified maintenance would be carried out.

I would renew the program because I still believe that if carried out properly it would enhance the quality of my water. However, Culligan should compensate me for the service withheld in the two years of the agreement. I never thought that the intent of Culligan would be to withhold the service paid for and later so much as to say too bad you old fogey. I called last week regarding this matter but seem to have been misunderstood , I hope that with this note the local Culligan may reconsider its position on this subject

    Sincerely

After reading this site and complaints, we don’t feel left out dealing with Culligan. They seem to have a good reputation in misleading customers. Ever since Culligan serviced our iron filter, we have an odor issue with the water. At first they identified it as a neutralizer, and the technician was about to dump in the neutralizer media into it and checked the level of media before doing it. He found the media is full; yes of course, since it’s not even a neutralizer and it’s an iron/sulfur treatment system. Later, they rebed this system with iron filter material which doesn't work or treat sulfur. For which they charged us $294. Also during that service, the tech did not know what a venturi is and how it works. So I adjusted the cap tight, which stopped the oxidation/precipitation process to work properly.

With the effect of this, we have been having rotten egg odor and led us to chlorinate the hot water heater 3 times and change the anode rod 2 times ($600). The iron/sulfur system did not function as a result of venturi tightening the iron filter; it did not filter out all the iron and let it pass through the carbon tank. Carbon tank rebed ($500). Upon several complaints to the sales person, his manager, branch manager and Culligan Corporate VP of consumer affairs, the answer we got is they want to upsell a constant chlorine feed system which takes care of the odor. They offered to credit the charges for the rebed but don’t understand the pain and the expenses caused by their mistake. They refused to talk to the manufacturer to understand how this unit works or what media goes into it. It has been over a month with constant struggle contacting Culligan with no solution. After the service, we were left with rotten egg odor water and several expenses to get lines chlorinated and heater anode rods change thinking its heater problem.

I bought a Culligan water softener and had it installed. It failed and flooded my basement. Culligan came out after the 3rd call 2 weeks late. They charged me to make repairs and would not honor the warranty. The product was defective and installed improperly. I have $6,000 in damage not covered by my homeowner policy with Preferred Mutual.

I received a delivery on 8-18 and they left me red water instead of blue. My wife called the office and was told all they had was red and that is why they left the wrong thing.

I called Ron **, the owner of our local Culligan office and he assured me on Monday (8-22) we would receive a delivery of blue topped bottles. Monday I waited, and have been waiting since. I think Culligan forgot about us.

    Dear Culligan,

I had a Culligan water softner installed in my house, but noticed that I was going through 8 bags of salt on my first service. I then noticed that the water softner was turning on automatically anytime the lawn sprinkler and hose bibs we turned on. Based on this scenario, I realized that the greater part of the salt usage was for irrigation and not for the hard water issues I am having in my house - the primary reason for even getting the system installed. I contacted the service and sales representative and the sales rep informed me that the installation performed is customary for every project they perform - I find this hard to believe and extremely unethical ( especially due to the conversations I have had with other Culligan franchiases).

The same sales representaive to me, prior to the installation, that the service would only affect the internal water outlets of the house and not the exterior -at all. Just last week they added 8 bags of salt as a result of this travesty! I enjoy having soft water and the service, till now, has been acceptable (this was primarily due to the continous deception on the partof the sales representive).

I would like to keep my serice but I refuse to pay 143.00 every 3 month for salt! I talked to the plumber and he agreed that the installtion should be changed but, every one so far has been passing the buck in order to properly correct the problem. The cost to complete the work is about 1 hr of labor and less than 100 in material. If this is greater than keeping my business , than I will have the systme removed and go with another company or get my own system from other suppliers. I have discussed the situation with The sales representaive (Mike Dimassa) and Service Mgr (Lou) and no one seems to want to rectify the problem. I do not want to create a legal situation, but this must remedied at once.

I had a bottleless water purifier dispenser installed in my kitchen on Dec. 9, 2010. All my family got sick soon after. I called the company because I noticed that the water was cloudy and there were some particles looking like dead skin and greenish slime in the water. The technician came on the 15th and found out that the technician that had installed the water system had used an old rubber waterline instead of the new plastic line that he was supposed to use. That old line was installed after the water went through the filters, attached to the back of the refrigerator and to the new plastic line going to the water dispenser.

The line that he used had not been used for more than five years and was connected to an old water filter but not connected to any water line. When the technician opened the water valve, it was all kind of green, brown and with slimy stuff coming from the water hose. It was so bad. No wonder we got sick. We got very upset and horrified that if I had not noticed that the water was dirty, we would have been more sick.

I'm having terrible service with the Irving, TX office. I take off from work in the morning expecting to be the first customer they see. This is what I requested for and I was told I would be the first customer on 9/7. Around 8:30, I called the office and was told my tech had an emergency and I would only be seen at 11AM. Why didn't I receive a call stating the tech would be late?

For the last couple of months, my softener hasn't been working at all. A tech was supposed to show up 2-3 months ago and never showed up. This morning, I asked to speak to a service manager. I was told Paul will return my call. I got a call back from Scott who I didn't want to talk to. I still haven't received a call from Paul. I want a credit to my account for the last couple of months my softener hasn't been working. The tech is rescheduled to come this Friday. Let's hope he calls me an hour ahead of his arrival time since this is what I requested. I'm not happy since I'm missing work so much and nobody showing up to my house.
